 Microprocessors are a mass storage device. They are
the advanced form of computers. They are also called
  as microcomputers.
 The impact of microprocessor in different fields are
significant. The availability of low cost, low power and
small weight , computing capability makes it useful in
  different applications.
 Now a days , a microprocessor based systems are used
in instructions, automatic testing product, speed
control of motors , traffic light control , light control of
  furnaces etc.
 Control

 Communication
 Office Automation and Publication
 Consumer
 Microprocessor based controllers are available in home
appliances, such as microwave oven, washing machine
  etc..
 Microprocessors are being used in controlling various
parameters like speed, pressure, temperature etc.
 It is very useful in the field of instrumentation.
 Frequency counters, function generators, frequency
synthesizers, spectrum analyses and many other
instruments are available , when microprocessors are
  used as controller.
 It is also used in medical instrumentation.
 Microprocessors are being used in a wide range of
    communication equipments.
 In telephone industry , these are used in digital
    telephone sets.
 The use of microprocessor in television, satellite
    communication have made teleconferencing possible.
 Railway reservation and air reservation system also
    uses this technology.
 LAN and WAN for communication of vertical
    information through computer network
 Microprocessor based micro computer with software
packages has changed the office environment.
 Microprocessors based systems are being used for
word processing, spread sheet operations, storage etc.
 The microprocessor has revolutionize the publication
  technology
 The use of microprocessor in toys, entertainment
equipment and home applications is making them
more entertaining and full of features.
 The use of microprocessors is more widespread and
  popular.
 because of low power consumption and accurate measurements
we can use static relays based on microprocessor in power system
networks. also filtering of noise is possible with static
relays(based on microprocessor). also for continuous monitoring
and security we can use these microprocessors.

 Also for continuous monitoring and security we can use these
    microprocessors.
 There are actually 2 microprocessors in the phone: The processor
and the baseband. The baseband controls wireless functions of
the phone such as Bluetooth and telephone connection.
 This processor is a resource to the main processor which is used
to control the user interface and higher-level systems of the
Phone, such as applications that the user is likely to interact with

 In washing machine we can see the options like
  1. Set timings
  2. Wash
  3. Spin & rinse etc....
 So in order perform all these options we need to program
the MICRO CONTROLLER or MICROPROCESSORS to
  perform respective jobs.
 We program these processors in such a way that it has to
recognize which job to be perform when user approach any
  of the above said options.
 Microprocessors are used to control consumer
electronic devices, such as the programmable
  microwave oven and DVD player;
 to regulate gasoline consumption and antilock brakes
  in automobiles.
 to monitor alarm systems and to operate automatic
tracking and targeting systems in aircraft, tanks, and
missiles and to control radar arrays that track and
identify aircraft, among other defense application.
. Application of a microprocessor in a local intersection controller
distributes the intelligence that was formerly concentrated in the
central computer over an entire traffic network.
 This approach eliminates the limitations of the conventional
  traffic controllers.
 The central computer is now released of the direct traffic control
and can be applied to optimize and to co-ordinate large traffic
  networks.
 An analysis of the basic operations executed in a traffic controller
shows that they can be accomplished by special hardware as well
as by a microprocessor with dedicated software routines.
 A local traffic controller can now be developed by
using a microprocessor, some specific I/O modules
  and a dedicated software package.
 Due to the flexibility of the software and a modular
hardware approach it was possible to develop
controller concept that could be applied stand alone or
  co-ordinate with neighbouring intersection
controllers as well as supervised by a central computer.
The latter is now free for selection of an optimal
control strategy. The standard concept enables several
  local control strategies .
