 Roll no.:22
What is Microprocessor???

1. It is multipurpose, programable device that
accepts digital data as input, processing it
according to instructions stored in memory
   and provides results as output.
2. Microprocessors operate on numbers and
symbol & represented in the binary numeral
   system.
3. The advent of low-cost computers on
   integrated circuits has transformed modern
   society.
8086 Microprocessor

1. The 8086 also called iAPX86 is a 16-bit
microprocessor chip designed by Intel between
   early 1976 and mid-1978.
2. The 8086 project stored in may 1976 and was
originally intended as a temporary substitute for
the ambitious and delayed iAPX 432 project.
3. It was an attempt to draw attention from the
less delayed 16 & y32e-bit processors of other
manufacturers and at the same time to counter
the threat from the Zilogz80 which became very
   successful.
Overview or Feature of 8086
I. It is a 16-bit microprocessors. Its ALU , internal registers work
        with 16-binary word.
II. 8086 has a 20-bit address bus can access up to 220 =1MB
        memory locations.
III. It can support up to 64 k I/O ports.
IV. It provides 14,16-bit registers.
V. Frequency range of 8086 is 6-10 MHz.
VI. It has multiplexed address and and data bus AD0-AD15 and
        A16-A19.
VII. It requires single phase clock with 33% duty cycle to provides
        internal timing.
VIII. 8086 is designed to operate in two modes, minimum mode
        and maximum mode.
Pentium
1. Pentium is a brand used for a series of
   x86 compatible microprocessors
   produced by Intel.
2. The name Pentium is derived from the
Greek word pente , meaning five and the
   Latin ending –ium.
3. The original Pentium branded CPU’s use
expected to be named 586 or i586.
4. The company’s first P5-based processor
was released as the original Intel
   Pentium on March 22,1993.
5. In 2006 the Pentium brand briefly
   disappeared from Intel’s roadmaps.
