This study was done to assess the phytochemical constituents and acute toxicity of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx and leaf extract. The crude extract of the plant parts were obtained after solvent percolation and drying. Then, the presence of tannins, saponin, flavonoids, alkaloids and phenol were assessed qualitatively. Also, albino rats Rattus norvegicus were used to assess the toxicity level of the plant materials, haematological and biochemical parameters of the test animal blood were also assessed. The results revealed that the two plant parts contained alkaloids, tannins, saponin, phenol and flavonoids. Also, In the acute toxicity assay, the oral lethal dose LD50 of 5000 mg kg bw and 2236.07 mg kg bw were recorded respectively for the calyx and leaf extract of the plant. The plant calyx and leaf extracts showed no significant p 0.05 effect on the levels of red blood cells RBC , white blood cells WBC , packed cell volume PCV , and haemoglobin concentration Hb albeit, the plant extracts had a significant increase effect on the platelet count of the rats. there was a significant increase in the alkaline phosphatase ALP , Alanine amino transaminase ALT and Aspartate amino transaminase AST in the group treated with the leaf extract compared with the control whereas the group treated with the calyx extract had comparable level of these enzymes with that of the control. These results has lent credence to the medicinal claim of the plant parts however, the leaf of the plant should be used in moderation. Dada, I. B. O. | Bada, S. O. Screening of Laccase Producing White Rot Fungus from Decayed Woodijtsrd
Laccase benzenediol oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.10.3.2 belongs to the super family of multi copper oxidases and is found in plants, fungi, and bacteria. Fungal laccase is reported to play roles in several processes including lignin degradation, morphogenesis, and pathogenesis. This paper describes the screening of potent extracellular laccase producing white rot fungus isolated from decayed wood and other soil samples. Potent fungal isolates were screened on Potato dextrose agar plate using various substrates such as 3mM guaiacol, 3m MABTS and 4mM tannic acid. In our screening, six fungal isolates from decayed wood were found to be potent laccase producer, where ABTS has proved to be well efficient substrate for laccase screening, where laccase for environmental application could be suitable for dye decolorization and removal of textile effluents. Comparative Study on Phytochemical Screening and HPLC Analysis of Daucus Caro...ijsrd.com
Phytochemical and biological screening is necessary for the isolation of functional groups which lead to the discovery of new active compounds. In the present work, the crude aqueous extract of Daucus carota were tested for phytochemical screening and HPLC analysis which indicated the presence of various class of bioactive secondary metabolite such as terpenoids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids and glycosides. HPLC analysis was performed to quantify the β-carotene content in pulp and aerial extract of Daucus carota.

Objective: The aim of the paper was to assess the wound healing potential of three medicinal plants using the excision wound healing model on albino rat. Materials and Methods: Soxhlet extraction method was utilized for the partition of the constituent of interest. Qualitative analysis and phytochemical screening were performed for the detection of tannins, alkaloids, resins, flavonoids, glycosides, steroids, proteins, carbohydrates, and amino acids. Three plants extract used for the ointment formulation and prepared by the addition of extract of Artocarpus heterophyllus, Murraya koenigii, and Punica granatum in polyethylene glycol ointment base. Three ointment formulations and six extracts with 5% and 10% extract concentration have been used. Excision wound rat model utilized for the wound healing potential. Results and Conclusion: All three plants, including A. heterophyllus Lam., M. koenigii Linn., and P. granatum Linn. extracted for the active constituent. The pharmacological evaluation on the excision wound healing model suggested that Group-I animals showed 52.09% of healing, whereas povidone-iodine treated animals showed 100.00% healing. On the other hand, the ointment formulation treated F-1 showed 96.47% of wound healing, F-2 showed 97.68% healing, and F-3 showed 99.11% healing. The overall healing results can be represented as following: Control <MKL5 <MKL10 <PGB5 <PGB10 <AHP5 <AHP10 <F-1 <F-2 <F-3 <Standard. F3 ointment formulation is better than the F2 and F1 formulation in wound healing potential as compared to others. Discussion: These studies have indicated that ointment formulations of A. heterophyllus, M. koenigii, P. granatum have been utilized for wound healing potential and it is safer for topical application. Excision wound healing model suggested that the three individual plant extract has shown the wound healing potential, although the prepared ointment formulations F3 have best and synergistic action than the individual. The ointment formulations containing plant extracts in 10% amount have better wound healing potential.

Phytochemical analysis and antioxidant activity in leaves of Dodonaea viscosa L.BRNSS Publication Hub
The present investigation was focused on the phytochemical screening, Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectral analysis, and antioxidant activity of Dodonaea viscosa using various organic solvent extracts. Ethanol and petroleum ether leaf extracts from the leaves D. viscosa were tested for the presence of phytochemical constituents, FT-IR analysis, and antioxidant was carried the qualitative analysis of phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, steroids, tannins, thiols, glycosides, resins, and saponins, and was richly present in petroleum ether and methanolic extracts compared to other extracts. The FT-IR spectrum showed the presence of carbonyls (C=O), phenol (C-O), thioethers (C-S), disulfides (S-S), normal polymeric O-H, phenolic compounds, and arylthio ethers. Plant extracts were screened for the antioxidant activity evaluating their 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical in scavenging ability. The total ascorbic acid content of the extracts was also evaluated. The results revealed that D. viscosa had the best DPPH scavenging activity with a value of ethanolic extract and was better than that of the standard ascorbic acid extract gave the highest ascorbic acid content of D. viscosa.

products has been recognized as significant and serious problem. Diesel engine oil, which is one of the major products of
crude oil, constitutes a major source of pollution in our environment. Therefore diesel engine oil can enter into the
environment through wrecks of oil tankers carrying diesel oil, cleaning of diesel tanks by merchants, war ships carrying
diesel oil and motor mechanics. In present study the microorganisms utilising petrol and diesel oil as carbon source were
isolated and investigation of their characteristics towards the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), which is now a
days well known as biodegradable polymer.

The leaves of the plant Annonareticulata were collected and extracted using different ranges of polar
organic solvents like low (Ethyl acetate), medium (Butanol) and high (Methanol). Qualitative analysis and
antimicrobial activity was investigated. The phytochemical screening of the leaf extract revealed that the
presence of alkaloids, tannins, steroids, terpenoids and coumarins. The Ethyl acetate and Methanol extracts
showed better antibacterial activity, the significant inhibitory effect against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas
putida and Lactobacillus acidophilus, and thus displayed highest inhibitory zone of 19.5mm, 19mm and 19mm
when compared to Butanol. FT-IR spectroscopic analysis of the Ethyl acetate, Butanol and Methanol extract of
A.reticulata revealed the presence of -CH, -OH, CH-OH and –NH2 bond stretching. The clinical isolates were
collected from patients suffered from different microbial infections. The antibacterial and antifungal activity
was determined by using leaf extracts.

The phytochemical investigation of Linum usitatissimum, family Linaceae, resulted in the separation and
identification of a lignane, 8–5' neolignan 1 (dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol-4-β-D-glucoside), in addition to
identification of many compounds by the GC/MS technique. The antimicrobial activities of hexane, methylene
chloride and butanol fractions were comparable to ampicillin. The activities against E. coli were 29.2%, 37.5%,
and 66.7%, respectively; against S. aureus were 45.4%, 36.4% and 63.6%, respectively, and against C. albicans
were 26.9%, 46.1% and 73.1%, respectively. Antioxidant activity was assessed by ABTS method. It decreased
in the following order: ascorbic acid > butanol fraction > methylene chloride fraction > hexane fraction. The
cytotoxicity against HePG2 was found to be “moderate” for butanol and methylene chloride fractions, and
“weak” for the hexane fraction. The cytotoxicity against MCF-7 was found to be “strong” for butanol fraction,
and “weak” for both hexane and methylene chloride fractions. The lignane-rich subfraction, Lu 3d was
incorporated into pluronic nano-micelles using nanoprecipitation technique through a modified procedure.
The physicochemical characteristics of the developed Lu 3d-loaded nano-micelles such as particle size,
potential and morphology were determined using DLS and HR-TEM. The average diameters of the prepared
plain and Lu 3d-loaded pluronic nano-micelles were found to be 207 ± 12 and 225 ± 18 nm, respectively. The
encapsulation of Lu 3d into nano-sized particles has enhanced their aqueous dissolution and consequently
improved their bioavailability. Nanoformulation of Lu 3d led also to a stable colloidal dispersion with a strong
green color, indicating its homogenous distribution in the aqueous medium at a significantly higher
concentration than that obtained using other solvents.
ABSTRACT
Azadirachta indica common name Neem is a very useful traditional medicinal plant in the sub-continent and each part of the tree has some medicinal properties. It has many therapeutic properties as it boosts the immune system, beneficial in treating acne, provides relief from bad breath, helps to protect against diabetes, effective in treating malaria symptoms, lowers the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. The plant is native to Asia and its sub-continents. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the phytochemical constituents present in leaves and bark of neem. The antioxidant activity, total phenolic, and flavonoid contents were also evaluated. Neem leaves and bark were collected from the Bundelkhand University Campus, Jhansi. It was cleaned with tap water and finally with distilled water and was air dried at room temperature and crushed. TLC was done for the determination of bioactive compounds present in the leaves. A qualitative phytochemical analysis was performed and we found that alkaloids, reducing sugar, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, phenolic compounds, saponins are present in neem leaves and bark. TLC results shown total 8 spots in the methanolic leaves extract having different Rf values. The total antioxidant capacity of A. indica leaves shown the dose dependent activities. The mean values of total phenolic contents and flavonoids are 70 mg GAE/g & 119 mg QE/g respectively. Thus in the present study, the presence of flavonoids and phenolic compounds in the neem leaves extract could be considered responsible for conferring antioxidant ability.

variegata Linn. (Caesalpiniaceae), Calotropis procera (Ait.) R.Br. (Asclepiadaceae), Catharanthus roseus (Linn.) Don.
(Apocynaceae), Lantana camara (Linn.) Var. (Verbenaceae), Mangifera indica Linn. (Anacardiaceae), Moringa oleifera
Lamk. (Moringaceae), Ocimum sanctum Linn. (Lamiaceae), Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb) Benth. (Mimosaceae), Solanum

extracts of powder of leaves were screened for qualitative determination of different phytochemicals like alkaloids,

The leaves of the plant Annonareticulata were collected and extracted using different ranges of polar
organic solvents like low (Ethyl acetate), medium (Butanol) and high (Methanol). Qualitative analysis and
antimicrobial activity was investigated. The phytochemical screening of the leaf extract revealed that the
presence of alkaloids, tannins, steroids, terpenoids and coumarins. The Ethyl acetate and Methanol extracts
showed better antibacterial activity, the significant inhibitory effect against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas
putida and Lactobacillus acidophilus, and thus displayed highest inhibitory zone of 19.5mm, 19mm and 19mm
when compared to Butanol. FT-IR spectroscopic analysis of the Ethyl acetate, Butanol and Methanol extract of
A.reticulata revealed the presence of -CH, -OH, CH-OH and –NH2 bond stretching. The clinical isolates were
collected from patients suffered from different microbial infections. The antibacterial and antifungal activity
was determined by using leaf extracts.

The phytochemical investigation of Linum usitatissimum, family Linaceae, resulted in the separation and
identification of a lignane, 8–5' neolignan 1 (dehydrodiconiferyl alcohol-4-β-D-glucoside), in addition to
identification of many compounds by the GC/MS technique. The antimicrobial activities of hexane, methylene
chloride and butanol fractions were comparable to ampicillin. The activities against E. coli were 29.2%, 37.5%,
and 66.7%, respectively; against S. aureus were 45.4%, 36.4% and 63.6%, respectively, and against C. albicans
were 26.9%, 46.1% and 73.1%, respectively. Antioxidant activity was assessed by ABTS method. It decreased
in the following order: ascorbic acid > butanol fraction > methylene chloride fraction > hexane fraction. The
cytotoxicity against HePG2 was found to be “moderate” for butanol and methylene chloride fractions, and
“weak” for the hexane fraction. The cytotoxicity against MCF-7 was found to be “strong” for butanol fraction,
and “weak” for both hexane and methylene chloride fractions. The lignane-rich subfraction, Lu 3d was
incorporated into pluronic nano-micelles using nanoprecipitation technique through a modified procedure.
The physicochemical characteristics of the developed Lu 3d-loaded nano-micelles such as particle size,
potential and morphology were determined using DLS and HR-TEM. The average diameters of the prepared
plain and Lu 3d-loaded pluronic nano-micelles were found to be 207 ± 12 and 225 ± 18 nm, respectively. The
encapsulation of Lu 3d into nano-sized particles has enhanced their aqueous dissolution and consequently
improved their bioavailability. Nanoformulation of Lu 3d led also to a stable colloidal dispersion with a strong
green color, indicating its homogenous distribution in the aqueous medium at a significantly higher
concentration than that obtained using other solvents.
ABSTRACT
Azadirachta indica common name Neem is a very useful traditional medicinal plant in the sub-continent and each part of the tree has some medicinal properties. It has many therapeutic properties as it boosts the immune system, beneficial in treating acne, provides relief from bad breath, helps to protect against diabetes, effective in treating malaria symptoms, lowers the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. The plant is native to Asia and its sub-continents. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the phytochemical constituents present in leaves and bark of neem. The antioxidant activity, total phenolic, and flavonoid contents were also evaluated. Neem leaves and bark were collected from the Bundelkhand University Campus, Jhansi. It was cleaned with tap water and finally with distilled water and was air dried at room temperature and crushed. TLC was done for the determination of bioactive compounds present in the leaves. A qualitative phytochemical analysis was performed and we found that alkaloids, reducing sugar, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, phenolic compounds, saponins are present in neem leaves and bark. TLC results shown total 8 spots in the methanolic leaves extract having different Rf values. The total antioxidant capacity of A. indica leaves shown the dose dependent activities. The mean values of total phenolic contents and flavonoids are 70 mg GAE/g & 119 mg QE/g respectively. Thus in the present study, the presence of flavonoids and phenolic compounds in the neem leaves extract could be considered responsible for conferring antioxidant ability.

Lamk. (Moringaceae), Ocimum sanctum Linn. (Lamiaceae), Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb) Benth. (Mimosaceae), Solanum
nigrum Linn. (Solanaceae), Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Mier. ex Hook. f. and Th. (Menispermaceae). Methonolic
extracts of powder of leaves were screened for qualitative determination of different phytochemicals like alkaloids,
carbohydrates, glycosides, phytosterols, flavonoids, protein and amino acid, diterpenes, phenols and tannin. All plant
materials were collected from Shivpuri district (M.P.).

Phytochemical Screening, Antioxidant, and Antibacterial Activity of Dioon spi...BRNSS Publication Hub
The present study was aimed to investigate the phytochemical, antioxidant, and antibacterial studies of leaf and rachis of Dioon spinulosum Dyer ex Eichl. The phytochemical screening of the plant extracts revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, carbohydrate, and phenols, whereas saponin was absent. The phenolic content expressed as mg/g gallic acid equivalent was determined and was more in methanolic extract of leaf (29.40 mg) than rachis (8.76 mg). Flavonoid contents were also greater in leaves than in rachis and methanol extract contained higher content (2.812 mg/g) than water (1.923 mg/g). Terpenoids were more in the aqueous extracts of both leaf and rachis when compared to methanol extracts. Antioxidant activity of both leaf and rachis extracts was conducted using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power assay. Leaf extract showed more DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC50 value of 130 μg/ml when compared to the rachis of D. spinulosum Dyer ex Eichl. The reducing capability of the leaf extract was found to be more when compared to rachis. The antibacterial potential was evaluated with Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans by agar well diffusion method. Antibacterial activity was observed only at higher concentration (1000 μg/ml) with inhibition zones of 12 mm and 13 mm.
In Ayurveda, the leaf juice of Adhatoda vasica, a shrub native to Asia is incorporated in
many traditional herbal formulations. However, suitable solvent and a suitable extraction
method for phytochemical profiling are not well established, and there is no published mass
spectra structural interpretation of the identified compounds. This has caused a few
problems in herbal formulation research due to the bias derived from different extraction
methods. Therefore, this study used polar and non polar extraction for phytochemical
analysis on Adhatoda vasica, aiming to assess the potential impact of different solvents. This
study included extractive value, total phenol and alkaloid content of the leaves in different
preparations. Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to
study the phytochemical profile of different solvents. Significant differences were observed in
all the parameters such as extract yield, total phenol, total alkaloid and phytochemical
composition. The ethanol extract stood out most for effective extraction of phytochemicals,
especially for the alkaloids. The results highlight the necessity for comparative analyses of
chemical composition in different solvent extractions and careful choice and validation of
analytical methodology in herbal formulation research.
Anti Bacterial and Anti Oxidant Activities of Evolvulus Alsinoides LinnIOSRJPBS
: Plants are very important sources of potential useful raw materials as natural chemotherapeutic agents. Shankhpushpi is botanically termed as Evolvulus alsinoides; the extracts have exhibited antioxidant, anti-ulcer, and immunomodulatory activities. The present work is to investigate the invitro therapeutic potential activities of methanolic extract of whole plant of Evolvulus alsinoides on the antimicrobial activity against five clinical pathogenic bacterial strains viz., Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Klebshiella pneumonia and Salmonella typhii, using agar well diffusion assay and Anti oxidant activity using 1-1-Diphenyl- 2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) radical. Extract inhibited IC50: 40.2. Total phenolic content: 28.4 mg/ml & Total flavonoid content: 20.2 μg /ml. Evolvulus alsinoides (MIC): 512.5mg/ml possess 30 to 40 % inhibition, the antibacterial activity of the herbal extracts was more pronounced on the gram- negative bacteria Klebshiella pneumonia than the gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. The free radical scavenging activity of methanolic activity of whole plant of Evolvulus alsinoides increase in a concentration dependent manner, and posses statistically significance DPPH free radical scavenging & Anti microbial activities

Isolation of Alkaloid from a Medical Plant (A Case Study of Morinda Lucida)iosrjce
The isolation and detection of alkaloids content of Morinda lucida (Ezeogwu) from Rubiceace family,
a medicinal plant was carried out using solvent extraction process. The dried powdered leaves of the plant were
divided into batches. Different solvents were used on them. After 6 days of occasional shaking, it was filtered.
The filtrates were used for testing the presence of alkaloids in Morida Lucida. Mayer’s reagents Wagner and
Lugol’s reagents and 5m sodium hydroxide were used as detecting reagents. Mayer’s reagent yields cream
precipitate in both acidic and alkaline extracts. Wagner and Lugol’s reagents yield reddish brown precipitate in
both acidic and alkaline extracts. 5ml sodium hydroxide gave white swirling precipitate. Other coloured
precipitate like orange and pale orange was gotten as a result of difference in solvents used for isolation. The
presence of the above precipitate indicates the presence of alkaloids in Morinda Lucida.

Objectives
The aims of this research were to carry out the preliminary phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity
of different extracts of J. sessiliflorum. The different anti-oxidant methods carried out were DPPH
scavenging method, NBT dye reduction method and nitric oxide scavenging method
Methods
Extracts were prepared by reflux method using different polarity solvents. The extracts were evap orated
using rotary evaporator. Antioxidant activities using DPPH, NBT dye reduction method and nitric oxide
scavenging methods and the correlation of their IC50 values with standards were carried out.
Results
The ethanolic herbs extract of J. sessiliflorum had the lowest IC50 values in all the anti-oxidant methods.
Moreover, the ethanolic extracts showed the presence greatest amount of phytochemical constituents. The
IC50 values were correlated with the IC50 values of standards in all the anti- oxidant activity determination
methods.
Conclusions
The results of the present study indicate that the extracts of J.sessiliflorum exhibited strong antioxidant
activity and thus it is a good source of antioxidant.
