Guns Kill, But Laws Never Will

Guns Kill, but Laws Never Will Guns have been used throughout history for many reasons including
hunting, fighting in wars, and for personal safety. Unfortunately, guns have also been used negatively
and have caused many deaths. There have been laws in place to control the use of guns throughout
history starting in the late 1700s. The first law was the Second Amendment which guaranteed the,
right of the people to keep and bear arms. KRCRTV.com reported on February 19, 2013 that the first
gun control laws were created in Georgia in 1837 banning hand guns. They also stated that Congress
has started many other gun control laws over the past eighty years, and each one usually followed ...

Obama wanted to strengthen the ban on assault weapons, which were the weapons used by several
killers in mass shootings in 2015. Most mass shootings are committed by people with mental illnesses,
or people who were bullied or frustrated at work. With weak gun control people are able to purchase
guns easily, and those that want to use them for mass shootings have very little standing in their way.
Mass shooters, people with mental issues, and people with criminal backgrounds are all able to
acquire guns, which calls for stricter background checks to be performed. Some countries have very
restrictive background checks that require people to take gun training, get a hunting license, and show
proof of membership to a shooting range. They also require that people prove that they are not
mentally ill, do not have a criminal background, are old enough to have a gun, and do not have a
police record. Frederick Lemueux from Slate Magazine says, With these provisions, most U.S. active
shooters would have been denied the purchase of a firearm. In addition, a study from the John
Hopkins Center for Gun Control Policy and Research found that after the backgrounds checks were no
longer required beginning in 2007 in Missouri, the murder rate increased 16 percent. If background
checks had continued in this state, many of these murders would not have occurred because the
shooters would not have been

Who Are The Souls In Dante s Inferno
The second lesson he learns, is how justly God punishes the souls in purgatory. All of the
punishments, or penances, relate to their sin on Earth. Those who were excommunicated, must wait in
Ante Purgatory for 30 years longer than their time excommunicated. With the excommunicated are
those who repented late in life. All the other souls had penance that directly matched their sins on
Earth. The first three terraces contain the souls whose main sin involved love that was perverted. The
sinners loved their neighbors harm, and their own betterment. After they enter through the gate of
Purgatory, the first souls he encounters are the prideful. These souls are bent over with huge stones on
their backs, slowly walking around the terrace. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the terrace of the wrathful, Dante and Virgil lose all the strength in their limbs, and the pair have
to rest. Ironically this terrace is filled with the souls of the slothful and lazy, who always lay dormant
and still. They are forced to run continuously, and never rest. The next terrace Dante goes to is for the
avaricious or the greedy. They are flat on their faces, their gaze fixed on Earth, and their backs to
heaven. This represents the way they acted in life, turning their attention toward Earthly goods,
subsequently turning their back to God. On the next terrace, there is a huge tree with sweet smelling
fruit. They starved souls of the gluttonous have to resist the temptation to eat the fruit, a temptation
they could not overcome on Earth. Also, similar to the slothful, the gluttonous have to run around
forever. The last terrace contains the souls of the lustful. The terrace is surrounded by a wall of fire,
that the souls must continuously run through. These flames represent the misdirected sexual desire
these souls had in life. All the souls in Purgatory have a penance that represents what they lacked or a

Sherlock Holmes Vs. The Great Mouse Detective
¨When you have Eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the
truth.¨ this quote is by Sherlock Holmes. What I think this means is about logic. Because if you start
with everything you know then go from there and try to solve the impossible, you re on your way to a
solution. This is like Sherlock Holmes and The Great Mouse Detective. Some ways that this quote is
like Sherlock Holmes and The Great Mouse Detective is because they are trying to figure out the
issue, so they re going to start with what they know and go from there. So that s something they have
in common. But they re also different in some ways. Like in Sherlock Holmes Watson is different than

My Observation Experience At Cedar Rapids, Iowa
For my observation experience I went to my aunts house in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was a beautiful,
bright Sunday afternoon on the 23rd of October, 2016. It was late afternoon when I arrived, around
3pm. I was welcomed by my aunt with a big hug and she called for her son Goose, my cousin, who
was helping me with my assignment. I asked where he would be most comfortable and he said I work
best on the couch so we went into the living room. I sat on the couch to the right of him and he laid on
his belly on the couch next to me. His mom sat in as well in a chair across from Goose. It was very
bright because of the large window so Goose asked to switch me couches so he could see better. I
happily obliged. I explained how he was going to help me with my homework and he didn t seem too
interested, until I handed him my large sketch pad. His face lit up and he told his mom I want one of
these for Christmas Mom! . His mom proceeded to tell me how much he enjoys art class at school.

The Female Nude On The Film Fifty Shades Of Grey
The Female Nude in Fifty Shades of Grey
This essay will be an analysis of the Female Nude in the film Fifty Shades of Grey. The female nude is
one of the topics that has been covered and this essay will be a discussion of the female character
Anastasia and how her representation has been portrayed in the film. There are a number of nudity
scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey and this involves anyone that is naked or typically wearing less clothes.
There will also be references to the female body in the essay and how it has been portrayed in films.
The female body is generally portrayed in a negative way. In most films, the female character is
represented as being weak and vulnerable, they are only there to be looked at by the audience.
Anastasia is the female protagonist in the film, she lacks of confidence in her own appearance. There
is a sense of insecurity and she hasn t realised her own natural beauty. Anastasia is a small young
woman with a slim beautiful figure. There are only glimpses of Anastasia s body and this is known as
Partial nudity which is parts of her body covered up in some manner, it refers to the exposure of her
skin in different places. This kind of nudity is used in many scenes in the film and it refers to the
exposure of Anastasia breasts and other parts of her body. The films erotic nature means that there a
number of scenes with certain parts of Anastasia body that has been exposed. Throughout the film,
there is a lot of attention towards her curves and

Research Paper On Swarm Robotics
AN EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON MULTI ROBOT FOARGING USING SWARMS FOR E WASTE
COLLECTION
1. INTRODUCTION:
Classical robots are usually single complex pieces of electromechanical hardware designed to perform
a task. They are typically expensive, specialized, and complicated. An alternate approach is to use a
swarm composed of a large number of very simple robots that work together, rather than a single
highly capable robot. In this approach, the strength of the system comes not from the complexity and
power of a piece of hardware, but from the cooperation of a large number of individuals. As the cost
of simple robotic components goes down and availability goes up, this approach becomes increasingly
feasible. It is currently possible, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For successful operation they need appropriate communication strategies that should be dynamically
adaptable to possibly changing environmental requirements. A promising way to achieve this is
through the use of an evolutionary robotics (ER) approach, i.e., using evolutionary algorithms to
evolve the robots controllers. Swarm Robotics is a new approach to the coordination of multi robot
systems which consist of large numbers of usually, but not necessarily, simple physical robots. It is an
interesting alternative to classical approaches to robotics because of some properties of problem
solving by social animals, which is flexible, robust, decentralized and self organized.

Data Anonymization Essay
1. INTRODUCTION Data in its original shape contains sensitive information about individuals, and
publishing such data will breach individual privacy. The recent practice in data publishing relies
mainly on rules and guidelines as to what kinds of data can be published and on agreements on the use
of published data. This approach may lead to extreme data distortion or inadequate protection. Privacy
preserving data publishing provides methods and tools for publishing useful information and also for
preserving data privacy. Privacy preserving data publishing was intended to construct published tables
in a way that allows systematic tasks (e.g., aggregate query answering, data mining) over the
published data and also for protecting the privacy of individual s data. Privacy preserving data mining
refers to the area of data mining that seeks to preserve the sensitive information from unsolicited or
unendorsed disclo¬sure. The major objective of privacy preserving data mining is to construct the
algorithms for modifying the original data in various ways, so that the confidential data and
knowledge remain confidential even after the mining process. Data anonymization is the process of
obscuring published data to prevent the identification of the key information. There are two
approaches known as generalization and suppression used in the anonymization process.
Generalization is the process of replacing less specific value with the higher value. Suppression

Network Coverage Based On Cell Size Essay
Heterogeneous Network The operators are using better modulation schemes [1], better coding rate,
multi antenna technique for increased throughput and efficiency. But this alone will not suffice as the
resources are limited and there are near far problems associated with a macro cell. One alternative to
increasing the throughput and quality of service is through cell split. To increase the capacity of a cell,
a large cell is divided into smaller cells with each cell having its own serving base station and serving
an area much less than that of a macro cell. A cell can split into micro, Pico and Femto cells. A micro
cell serves an area of less than 2kms with the base station having a transmit power range of 5 watts.
With further reduction in the transmit power, a cell known as Pico cell can serve an area of 100 meters
or less and is mostly used to provide coverage in buildings. A Femto cell with transmission power of
less than 200 Mw provides the least amount of coverage. Fig. 1 Network coverage based on cell size
Thus while Macro cell can provide a wider coverage, in high density areas small cells can be used for
data offloading, both indoors and outdoors. This architecture shown in Fig. 1 results in Heterogeneous
Network. Thus Het nets have been introduced in the LTE Advanced to provide increased throughput
and capacity [5]. But there are some implementation issues associated with Het Nets 1.2 Het Net

Character Development In James Baldwin s Another Country
Character Development in Another Country In James Baldwin s greatest success, three parts of the
book make up one story of the life and death of a young man. Being a homosexual, African American
jazz drummer, he struggles to find the right path to take him to happiness and sanctuary. The complex
characters within the novel struggle to love in the middle of a time of racism, sexism, and
homophobia. The character who is seen struggling the most with this is the protagonist, Rufus Scott
from Harlem, New York. After a series of episodes and digression patterns, Rufus then finds himself
to the point of suicide, jumping off the George Washington Bridge, yet it is not the end of the story.
James Baldwin portrays Rufus Scott as a heroic figure because his suicide, itself, leads to justice in his
community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the center of Baldwin s new political emphasis is his brief but powerful characterization of Rufus
Scott, who dies in the first fifth of the novel but remains present in the thoughts of the other

quote, Rufus obviously impacts the lives of the other characters. It is seen in that Vivaldo and Ida
become closer, leading to a physical relationship. Growing into a socially rejected, interracial
relationship, they construct a strong couple and fight the rejection off. Eric becomes stronger as a
person when he realizes that Rufus is no longer there for him. Rufus puts him through so much and
Eric builds off of it to help him in the after math of Rufus death. Rufus was basically all of their
heroes; he brought people together and made people

Gandersheim afforded noble women from the Ottonian court, it had something of a double identity
with respect to its protection of women from incest: a haven for women while also providing the

Aldo Leopold’S Essay “The Land Ethic” Was Published In
Aldo Leopold s essay The Land Ethic was published in A Sand County Almanac. The short paper
confronts the imperfections in the most common approaches in preserving the environment. Leopold s
answer is to develop a new branch of environmental ethics to model humanity s ever changing
relationship with the environment. Leopold observantly describes the history of ethics, the meaning of
community with the land and why it s appropriate to do so. Toward the end of the essay as the reader
is ready for Leopold to thoroughly explain his moral code he ambiguously finishes, A thing is right
when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when
it tends otherwise (Leopold, 224 225). The reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, the reader turns to Leopold to provide a concrete ethical viewpoint. But this is nearly
impossible because Leopold doesn t have the answers to fix the biotic clock. Any viewpoint he relays
might result in complete failure.
Leopold is calling for a philosophical shift rather than a change in our actions. In the beginning of the
essay, Leopold references The Ten Commandments and The Golden Rule. The pair of ethical
viewpoints guides our everyday relationships in society. The Ten Commandments is a documentation
of ten moral rules that are set in stone (pun intended.) The Golden Rule is a single principle of
mutuality: treat others how you want to be treated. While one approach is only to be obeyed, the other
depends on deep self reflection. To truly know how to treat someone, we must think about
consequences and respect one another. The land ethic is not a list of rules, which should be taken for
what it is, but an attitude that can change on a daily basis. Leopold seeks to reconstruct humanity s
ethical knowledge to its core. He observes the way humans interact compassionately, and is
determined to explain why it is important to extend this compassion to the environment. It is
inconceivable to me that an ethical relation to the land can exist without love, respect, and admiration
for land and a high regard for its value (Leopold

believed that herself, that was the common thought of the Middle Ages. It was believed that the female
mind was inadequately equipped, compared to that of a males, and it was frowned upon for a woman
to show that she might be more intelligent than any male. According to Williams and Echols, women
physicians were often charged as witches by male physicians or tangled up in legal issues because
they competed with the males. Heloise was very careful to never challenge Abelard s intelligence. She

Conversely, The Flavr Savour tomato possesses supressed activity of the enzyme polygalacturonase.
The suppression contributes to the fruits ability to stay harder for longer allowing it to stay on the
vine. This suppression allows the tomato to develop its natural flavours and ripen as it stays on the
vine for a longer time period. This flavour saving process lead to the products name The Flavr Savr .
The Flavr Savr tomato is created through the use of antisense gene technologies to decrease the
polygalacturonase activity. The kan(r) is a gene from the bacteria Escherichia coli, alongside with the
gene from the Flavr Savr tomato they are inserted into a plasmid that resembles a round ring of DNA.
These plasmids are further inserted into a group of normal tomato cells in a medium growth that
contains the kanamycin antibiotic Engel 7. This process produces the APH (3 ) II substance that
allows the cell to become resistant to the antibiotic. This process is used to identify the genetically
transformed genes. The gene of the Flavr Savr initially coded for a strand of RNA, which was the
reverse strand of RNA that occurs in a natural tomato plant. The original RNA strand contains the
enzyme polygalacturonase degrading the cell wall, making the fruit soft. The RNA strand made from
the Flavr Savr gene binds to the polygalacturonase RNA in a process to cancel each other out as
demonstrated in figure 1.
The antisense gene is a

Essay on The History of Music Industry
In the past, music has been a costly business, where only people with a lot of money could enter and
be successful in the industry. Changes in the music industry coupled with new computer technology
have made it much easier for people without a lot of money to compose, produce, and distribute their
creation. In order to get a better understanding of the music industry in comparison to 2014, one has to
look at its history. There were many things that happened from the 1980 s onward, and they brought
on a significant impact towards the music industry. Development in computer technology has also
made a big impression on music. Many things within these fields have enabled artists to connect with
their fans in a way they couldn t before, and on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were many changes in the business of music records from the 1980s onward. For example, the
Telecommunications Act of 1996 law was passed. This enabled a free for all in for the record
companies and granted them the ability to compete with anyone in the market. What ended up
happening was the companies bought each other left and right until there were 5 or 6 big companies
that ran everything. The record industry controlled music production, distribution, and airplay on the
radio. Radio started out on the AM frequencies, then later the FM higher fidelity stations. The only
way to get music through to the masses feasibly was to go through the highly selective record
companies because they were the only ones who could mass produce music. To distribute, first they
sold music on gramophone records, an early distribution medium made of processed shellac from the
lac bug. Then they moved on to track tapes, vinyl records, compact cassettes, and eventually CDs.
Emerging digital Era: 1980 s And Beyond:
Gradually after this event, the medium for music had changed, from various types of analog grooved
discs, to various types of magnetic tape based reels and cartridges, to compact discs, or CDs, to digital
downloads.
An early revolution in music portability was created by a device called the Walkman cassette player.
This device was based on a similarly designed

The Causes And Effects Of The Detroit Race Riot Of 1967
Law and Disorder White Americans have discriminated against African Americans ever since the first
white men bringing with them their slaves set foot in what would become the continental United
States. America s roots lie in imperialistic expansionism during which white men took advantage of
those with a darker skin color whom they deemed unequal. The photograph of the devastating
aftermath of the Detroit Race Riot of 1967 vividly captures the white Americans sense of dominance
towards the disenfranchised African Americans. Though the photo lacks an easily identifiable original
source, it has circulated around the internet and now serves as an epitome of the voiceless black
American community s stance in the wake of destruction against the rest of America; it signifies what
is still known as The Great Rebellion in Detroit, as the black Americans expressed their rage against
the failure of American institutions (Flock). The picture s illustration of the rubble among the street,
pillaged stores, and thick black clouds of smoke billowing into the sky conveys the ruins that not only
Detroit suffered, but also African Americans across America. The graphic image depicts the inequality
and oppression black Americans endured in the face of the unscrupulous, corrupt white American
empire. Ultimately, the photo represents United States as an imperial country founded on racial
hierarchy.
Racial divisions have plagued America throughout history. For example, during the 1960s, the

A Coupled Model Of Transport, Turbulence, And Mesoscale Flows
A coupled model of transport, turbulence, and mesoscale flows is proposed, including turbulence
spreading. The model consists of transport equations for plasma density and pressure coupled to a
shell model of drift wave turbulence, which incorporates coupling to mesoscale flows via disparate
scale interactions. The model can describe the turbulent cascade and its dynamical interplay with
zonal and mean shear flows as well as the profile evolution (including the profiles of turbulence
intensity itself) due to these self consistent turbulent fluxes. This simple system of equations is shown
to capture the low to high confinement (L H) transition. It is also observed that as the heating is
increased, the system goes through an intermediate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance the models including the effect of evolution of plasma turbulence driven by profile
gradients were proposed and studied by various authors (see, e.g., Refs. 7 and 18). In particular, the
model of Miki et al.7,19,20 has the advantage of including oscillations between two predators (zonal
flows and mean flows) and one prey (turbulence) while achieving the L H transition. As such, it is also
able to describe an L I H transition (L H transition with an intermediate phase), which was initially
predicted by a 0D model.21,22 However in most of the reduced models, the transport coefficients are
determined by an ad hoc shear suppression rule. Here we propose an approach based on shell models,
where the shear suppression and the predator prey dynamics are natural results of the disparate scale
interactions incorporated within the shell model description. The model that is introduced in this paper
is interesting for various reasons. It is significant, for instance, in that it makes use of a simple
description of turbulence based on shell models, yet it is able to describe the complex interplay
between turbulence and zonal flows in a natural self consistent way, without making use of ad hoc
steady state relations such as the shear suppression rule. On the other hand, the model

Raoul Wallenberg And The Holocaust
During the Holocaust, around 6 million Jews died of persecution from many groups of people. But
this number could have been much greater if it was not for the efforts of many courageous people.
There is not an exact number of how many people were saved during the Holocaust, but the death toll
would have been much larger if people, like Raoul Wallenberg, did not help. Raoul Wallenberg was a
Swedish businessman and diplomat who showed much moral courage by saving countless Jews during
World War II. Raoul Wallenberg was born on August 4, 1912 in Sweden. He was born into one of the
richest families in Sweden, the Wallenbergs. Since his family was very wealthy, he had the
opportunity to attend college abroad in another continent. In 1931, Wallenberg went to the University
of Michigan at Ann Arbor in the United States to study architecture. He graduated in three and a half
years with a bachelor s degree of Science in Architecture. This bachelor s degree allowed him to come
into contact with many Jews that had escaped from Europe during the early years of persecution while
he was working on architecture in Palestine (Raoul Wallenberg). In June 1944, the War Refugee
Board, or WRB, a U.S. established organization that helped support rescue missions for Jews,
recruited Wallenberg to lead their operations in Budapest, Hungary. When Raoul Wallenberg arrived
in Budapest, there were only 230,000 (⅓) Jews left in the city. 400,000 had already been deported by

Democian people, a strong nation that has proven itself in numerous wars. Democia is the largest of
the five factions, and was founded when their ancestors came from across the Great Sea. Their
territory extends from the western shore, including control over the Sea Isles off the west coast, to the
winding river across the plains. This river runs from the northern mountains straight down the middle

The Battle Against The War On Terrorism
What Now? An analysis of the responses to the Senate Report on CIA Interrogation
The fight against the war on terrorism has initiated a debate in the United States over the use of torture
and advanced interrogation techniques to extract information needed to protect the safety of its
citizens. In lieu of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, government officials believed that using extensive force
against suspected is justified, especially if such force results in the prevention of future planned
attacks. Others reject torture and the methods used by the government agencies, especially the CIA, as
both unreliable and an affront to legal and civilized norms of behavior. In December of 2014, The
Senate Intelligence Committee Report on CIA torture, drafted by the bipartisan United States Select
Committee on Intelligence, brought light to the controversy by unearthing the methods and techniques
used to interrogate detainees, prisoners of war, and suspected terrorists. The findings have ignited
strong opposition and outcry among the citizens, critics of the government, and foreign nations. The
aftermath of this report have prompted two important questions: Should the CIA be held responsible
for its actions and face investigations, prosecution, and full legal action or should the CIA have the
ability to act and determine policies they seem fit to protect the U.S. from any threats and outside
forces?

Haiti Earthquake Summary
This case study involves the troubled aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the unkept promises
made to Haiti by surrounding countries, most notably, the United States. The story focuses on Pierre,
the student of a state university in Florida, whose parents migrated to Florida from Haiti in the mid
1970s. The passage begins with Pierre desperately voicing his concerns to his professor for Haiti and
the lack of involvement and compassion the outside world has for Haiti during such devastating times.
Although the United States is not the only country guilty of unfulfilled promises to Haiti, most
Haitians have directed their anger toward the US due of feelings of betrayal (Pg. 115). America has a
history of exploiting Haiti for self gain under the disguise of aid , most notably in regard to Haiti s
small scale farming. Haitians now rely on imported US rice, a product they once grew for themselves.
The US is also responsible for the extermination of Haiti s 1.3 million pigs (Pg. 116). Americans have

Integrity In Research Paper
If integrity is never challenged, it cannot be measured. How many times have we heard people say, I
would never do what she did or I cannot believe he would do such a thing? Life can appear to be a
series of one epic fail or test after another. We have watched the rich and famous fall from their lofty
pedestals while those with integrity are rarely highlighted on the evening news. Integrity is doing the
right thing, even when nobody s watching. If integrity is the glue that holds our perception of a good
person together, how do we choose to be a person of integrity? Do we have the innate ability to
develop an integrous personality or are we forced to defy nature and overcome nurture? To seek a

We are hard pressed to find any fault in the life found in the pages of the book of Daniel. His example
of integrity is second to none in the Old Covenant. We do not have the first recordation of a stumble or
fall as with most of our biblical heroes. As we observe the integrity found in the life of Daniel, we
catch him in Chapter 6 headed to the lion s den. The famous Bible story of Daniel and the lions den is
more than a simple account of God s deliverance. It also shows that no one is a match for the true
God. Daniel had been in captivity approximately 66 years serving faithfully and with distinction in the
reign of the Babylonian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. When the Medo Persian Empire
conquered Babylon, Daniel begins serving King Darius. With Daniel s background and wisdom, he is
quickly promoted by the new king to an elevated position of envy.
Daniel was given the gift of prophecy even though he would not claim the title of prophet. In addition
to being blessed with the ability to interpret dreams, he could also see what God had in store for the
Jewish nation. As the Lord revealed to Daniel his plan for his chosen people, he no doubt saw
glimpses of the holocaust and the multiple attempts to destroy Israel. There is always a remnant after
each catastrophe proving the Abrahamic Covenant withstands the test of time. God is faithful. In spite
of the countless years of slavery, the Israelites have endured hardships and continue to live

Here Follows Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House, by...
The Puritan life, although simple, demanded diligence both mentally and spiritually which put stress
on even the most faithful of followers. Although the common practice entailed brushing religious
struggles under the rug, few writers bravely wrote of their religious doubts and endeavors to become
better Puritans. Author Anne Bradstreet shows in her work Here Follows Some Verse upon the
Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 that religious struggles are often met by Puritans and it takes
brave souls to admit their difficult time with their religion. This poem shows a woman dealing with a
religious crisis and how even though she struggles her faith still holds strong in the end. Bradstreet s
poem displays a crisis of faith in her content ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These material items have become physical representations of the memories Bradstreet created with
them so the loss is a tragic psychological event. This quote also represents the struggles that the author
had with the non materialistic Puritan lifestyle. She has put so much emphases on her material
possession that she has lost sight of what is truly important, which is God. The content expressed in
this poem mirrors the materialistic struggles most Puritans felt with their faith at one point or another.
Bradstreet makes a point to show her thought process of returning to the Puritan mindset when she
begins to question herself in her poem. The following is an example: The straight I gin my heart to
chide,/And did they wealth on earth abide?/Didst fix thy hope on mold ring dust?/The arm of flesh
didst make they trust? (37 40). The repetitive notion of the author questioning herself allows the
reader to see into her thought process regarding her current struggle with her beliefs. The author
includes this process in the poem to enable the reader to fully understand her way of thinking and
ultimately makes her writing more relatable. Bradstreet develops the content of the poem to show her
external struggle to release her material possessions and focus on the process of regaining her Puritan
beliefs, however, the form of the poem speaks louder to her unwavering internal faith. There is

Security Vulnerability of the World Wide Web Essay
Everyday tech users are increasingly engaged with web and mobile applications. These programs have
many uses and can be very helpful in progressive usage. However, these applications also serve as the
most accessible point of entry for malicious attackers to wreak havoc. The continual growth and usage
of web applications makes the infrastructure one that is susceptible to attack due to lack of thorough
security implementation. The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a community based

The data can contain malicious content in various forms such as JavaScript, HTML, Flash, or any
other form of executable code. There are also a variety of attacks that can occur through this method,
the most common being transmission of private data, redirection to malicious web content, or
executing malicious operations on the user s machine. XSS attacks can be categorized into two
categories despite the wide array of possible paths of exploitation; stored XSS attacks and reflected
XSS attacks. Stored XSS attacks permanently store the injected script on the target server, and by
requesting the compromised data the victim is susceptible to the malicious script. This is labeled as the
most dangerous type of XSS attack because a majority of web applications require some form of
storage therefore making a majority of applications prime targets. The point of success for the attacker
is simply to have a user visit the page with the stored exploit, this simple success standard can be
easily achieved making this even more challenging. These types of attacks are also known as
Persistent XSS Attacks or Type I XSS attacks. Reflected XSS attacks occur when the injected script is
reflected off the web server. The delivery of the attack is via an alternative path such as through email
or via another website where the user engages with the malicious link. This allows the malicious code

temporary period of when I need the information in class, but later, I tend to forget and not retain
everything I ve learned. The curriculum in this class seems to be things that I can really benefit from
fully understanding and being able to know how to use these tools, I will be prepared for the future. In
order to do this, I will read all the required chapters from the book and make sure I attend class
everyday. I believe this goal goes hand in hand with the other 2 goals I ve set and will help to drive me

Impact Of Technology On Health Care Industry
Empirical Essay Main Idea The article, IT Based Capabilities, Service Innovation, and Quality in
Health Care, focuses on how there have been many developments in technology which could be
utilized to effectively deliver services within the health care industry (Thambusamy Palvia, 2011, p.
1). Through innovation, health care facilities are expected to provide top quality care to patients.
Technology has made that possible; however, prior to this study, it was unsure if the two had any
correlation. The research that was conducted involves the term service in the health care industry

5). If a medical facility believes that they are providing the best quality of service to the patients,
possible improvements will go unidentified. An example would be to reexamine the EHR program
that is being utilized periodically to determine if an upgrade or new program would be more beneficial
for the employees and patients. There are numerous EHR programs that are being developed and/or
constantly undergoing improvements. Although a program is effective for the facility and patients, it
does not signify that it is providing the best quality of care. Lastly, health care facilities that use IT to
improve their capabilities for service innovation and service quality have the potential to enhance their
organizations strategic and operational performance (Thambusamy Palvia, 2011, p. 17). Innovation in
the health care industry is pertinent for providers to be able to ensure not only the quality of care is
exceptional but also to contribute in reducing medical errors. Allowing patients to have access to
selected parts of their medical record allows the patients to have an active role in their health. Ideas

responsible for the whole business operated in their division except for the control function, which is
run by the division controllers who report directly to Chris Bateman, the CFO. The reason why control

By contrast, the new budget system is based on a minimum performance standard (MPS philosophy)
which has to be reached in order to start earning extra rewards, trying at the same time to ensure that
these standards are realistically set by the division managers making them definitely achievable. Then,
above this first and sure performance standard, managers have to set targets that represent ordinary
performance levels with a 50% probability of achievement.
This way, it can be possible to distinguish between different levels of performance (standards), which
had associated different extra compensations if achieved.
Bonuses were also allocated in a different way: in the old system, workers included in the bonus plan
were assigned a bonus potential according to which additional rewards were paid depending on profit
before taxes (PBT) and personal performance. Therefore, bonus were assigned on the basis of two
kinds of measures: an objective measure (no bonus were paid if the PBT was below the 60%) and a
subjective judgment (performance was evaluated by the top management in the basis of target
accomplishment). By contrast, in the new system the incentive compensation plan was different
depending on the difficulty of the standards. Additionally, a bonus pool was created for each division

I know many people hold me responsible. We, I, cannot monitor everyone all the time. If people want

corrupt in football are in a minority, like in society and must be held responsible for their actions.
Football cannot be the exception to the rule. There can be no place for corruption of any kind (ESPN

violating FIFA s ethics rules when he approved a $2 million payment to then FIFA Vice President and
President of the Union of European Football Associations, Michel Platini. Blatter stated in a news

The 1988 Free Trade Agreement
To ask why Canada entered the 1988 free trade agreement with the United States of America is to ask
a complicated question that is likely to garner a different answer from each respondent. The best that
one can do when analyzing the multitude of components that led to this agreement is to eliminate any
pre conceived notions that they may hold about liberalized trade, and attempt to objectively assess the
issues that this country faced in the years leading up to 1988. Free trade between Canada and the US is
likely one of the most contentious issues that our country has ever faced. This becomes apparent when

witnessed in the mid 70 s and early 80 s, and the subsequent Macdonald Commission, signalled an
ideological shift in Canada from Keynesian principles of social responsibility, and government
economic intervention, to more austere, free market values associated with economists like Milton
Friedman. This is evident when we analyze the political ascension of New Right figures Margaret
Thatcher in Britain, and Ronald Reagan in the US. Thatcher, noted for her self described war on
labour and Reagan for his trickle down economic scheme were both revered by our own Brian
Mulroney, who emulated their efforts, facilitating enhanced corporate sovereignty in Canada. This
admiration that Mulroney had for Reagan may also have been conducive to the timeliness of the FTA.
A parallel can be drawn between theirs, and the relationship that had existed between William Lyon

Darkness And Darkness In John Milton s Relation To Darkness
Perhaps, within one line, Milton describes the nature of all emitted light; that it must, if we are to call
it light, be considered in relation to darkness and that darkness must be considered in relation to light;
that a thing cannot be without its opposite, since any one member of an antithesis cannot exist without
a counter member, or an anti member; as a white horse cannot be compared to a black one without the
black one being present; A cannot be compared to B unless B is present; by extension, an antithesis
works by expressing two extremities of any one quality, the antithesis of white is black, since, if we
were to evaluate colour, white suggests the prescience of white and the absence of black, and vice
versa. But, to what degree is blackness said to exist in whiteness? Are they two separate qualities? Is
one merely the absence of the other? Is so, the true nature of the antithesis is of one existent thing to a
non existent thing. Suppose we are to compare lightness to darkness: if light is said to exist, as an
emission which illuminates darkness, then light can only be considered as something which
illuminates darkness, and thus can only be considered in relation to darkness; likewise, if we are to
call darkness that thing which covers light, it must be considered in relation to its opposite, which

Adaptations of Virginia Wolfe Essay
In approaching a topic such as adaptations, one has to first understand what exactly adaptation means
and how it is applied to such works to get the product the adapter is trying to create and for what
reasons they are adapting for. The American Heritage Dictionary defines Adaptation as the following:
1(a). The act for process of adapting. 1(b). The state of being adapted. 2. A composition recast into a
new form: The play is an adaptation of a short novel. 3. An alteration or adjustment by which a species
or individual improves its condition in relationship to its environment. (10) The definition that we ll be

Woolf takes the reader on a psychological roller coaster with flashbacks to Mrs. Dalloway s life,
specifically her teen age to college years. She shows us all of the decisions Dalloway had to make and
how those decisions had shaped her life. Clarissa Dalloway had chosen a life that would be safe for
her, by marrying well and having a child, by living the proper political life. Throughout the novel,
Clarissa thinks back onto how she could have had a life of sexual freedom and excitement with
Richard, her ex lover from her college years. Of course this is all put into play by the arrival of him
from India, because she hadn t seen him in a very long time. All of these occurrences and flashbacks
just add to Clarissa s growing depression that she barely is able to hold onto in the story. The most
interesting and most significant aspect of Mrs. Dalloway is that it takes place in one day, which is
what Cunningham and Daldry built their book and movie off of. The idea of telling a story of a
woman s thoughts in one day is an amazing one because it is so intrinsic and specific that going past
one day would take forever to divulge and digest. One of the most important parts of Mrs. Dalloway is
the relationship between Septimus and Clarissa. Woolf uses Septimus, a war veteran who s got shell
shock, as the alternate persona to Clarissa. I like to think that Septimus was the brain and

By this point we are 60 to 70 years old and ready to retire in some level of comfort and dignity,
without having to work anymore retirement and our declining years, they say. That lasts another dozen
years, give or take a decade. The level of comfort and dignity one enjoys during those final years is
measured mostly by the wealth we have managed to accumulate during the 3 or 4 decades we toiled at
those chosen professions we spent so many years preparing for. For most of us, that wealth consists
mainly in something modern society calls a pension. Because most of us lack the discipline,
sophistication, or skills needed to set aside and invest money during our working years, the task of
accumulating pension funds is left mainly up to our employers, who in turn hire highly specialized
teams of people to administer those pension funds. Some of them do that extremely well; others not so
much. Because not all employers offered pensions, in 1935 Congress passed legislation authorizing
the federal government to tax workers and their employers, in exchange for guaranteeing a basic
pension. That legislation was the Social Security Act. Social Security was never intended to replace
employer provided pensions, or to discourage workers from accumulating their own retirement funds.
Rather, the intent was that Social Security would provide a guaranteed base upon which workers and
their employers could build. Employer provided pensions are not

The Influence of Realism and Naturalism on 20th Century...
The Influence of Realism and Naturalism on 20th Century American Fiction After World War I,
American people and the authors among them were left disillusioned by the effects that war had on
their society. America needed a literature that would explain what had happened and what was
happening to their society. American writers turned to what is now known as modernism. The
influence of 19th Century realism and naturalism and their truthful representation of American life and
people was evident in post World War I modernism. This paper will try to prove this by presenting the
basic ideas and of these literary genres, literary examples of each, and then make connections between
the two literary movements. Realism Modernism not only depicted ... Show more content on

Literary naturalism invited writers to examine human beings objectively, as a scientist studies nature (
Am. Lit. Compton s). In portraying ugliness and cruelty, the authors refrained from preaching about
them; rather they left readers to draw their own conclusions about the life they presented. Generally,
these authors took a pessimistic view to portray a life that centered on the negative part of man s
existence. When dealing with society directly, naturalists generally detailed the destruction of people
without any sentiment. To do this, they wrote more open about society s problems in a more open
manner usually using nature as a symbol for society. Naturalistic literature, like! realistic, served as a
catalyst for change but, in contrast, was a little more like propaganda. Even though only twenty years
may have separated them, the transformation from realism/naturalism to modernism was a long one in
terms of how much society had changed. The aforementioned rapid change in American society and
America s relation with the rest of the world left America in disarray. After the first World War,
American society was divided and left without definition. This called for a new age of literary
expression to control and document the isolationist fears , corruption , and disenchantment (Bradley
1339 1340) caused by the war. Authors looked to explain their generation and to respond to the

Siberian Lynx Research Paper
The Siberian Lynx (Lynx lynx wrangeli) is a subspecies of the Eurasian lynx. They inhabit Siberia east
of the Yenisei River and in other parts of Russia. The climate is frequently very cold. Eurasian lynxes
are the largest of all lynxes. Males weigh upwards of 65 lbs. (about 30 kg); have a height of 30 in. (75
cm) at the shoulder, and a length of 50 in. (130 cm). The Siberian subspecies gets particularly big with
males reaching as much as 90 lbs. Their paws are wide, enabling them to walk across snow. Long tuffs
of fur sprout from the tips of their ears. Their bodies display an interesting assortment of colors and
patterns. These can be yellowish, grayish, or rusty in color with patterns of spots, stripes, or without a
notable pattern. Siberians are typically more gray and white in appearance. The fur thickens
considerably during winter. Mating happens usually during the months of February and March. The
cats will select dens that provide relative safety, such as rocky crags or in heavy underbrush. Females
give birth to one to four young. The kittens will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their broad range has helped maintain overall populations of the species. In Russia alone their number
surpasses 30,000. The IUCN Red List, which tracks the status of species worldwide, presently
categorizes the Eurasian Lynx as least concern. Despite this fact, the species faces dangers. It has
largely disappeared or declined in many of their traditional habitats in Western Europe. The exact
status of the Siberian lynx subspecies is up to debate. As is often the case, poaching, prey depletion,
and habitat destruction are a problem. History has shown that any species can be quickly devastated.
The last century has seen a marked downturn in the numbers of various subspecies. One of these, the
Balkan lynx, is currently listed as critically endangered. The population of the Balkans appears to be
fewer than 50

Possible Cause Of Schizophrenia Essay
Possible Cause for Schizophrenia Schizophrenia, defined by the National Institute of Mental Health is
...a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves... Sufferers
of this mental illness have many symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, difficulty finding
happiness, reduced speaking, trouble focusing, and many other symptoms which greatly impact their
quality of life. Around two million Americans are diagnosed with this illness, although not much is
known about it. Scientists have still not been able to pin point what causes schizophrenia. Due to this
there is no cure, only treatments to try and dull the symptoms. Steven McCarroll and Beth Stevens
have conducted a study which will hopefully give researchers something to help further their studies,
to finally find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The part of the brain that is mostly impacted is the prefrontal cortex, which helps with thinking and
planning. The team focused on a location in the human genome called the MHC. They found that the
MHC has four variants of C4, which produced two different proteins, C4 A and C4 B. After analyzing
64,000 people they concluded that schizophrenics were more likely to have overactive forms of C4 A
than non schizophrenic people. This finding made them believe the C4 A was the gene which may
cause schizophrenia. This idea was then tested by Dr. Stevens, an assistant professor of neurology.
Mice were used in the experiment to see if the nonexistence of the gene which produces C4 would
impact the synaptic pruning. The experiment showed that the mice bred without the C4 producing
gene showed a problematic synaptic pruning process. This further supported McCarroll and Steven s
theory that too much C4 A causes an excessive amount of pruning during development of the brain.
This all explains why schizophrenics have a thinner prefrontal

Guns Kill, But Laws Never Will Carson Wagner Fletcher 5th Period ELA 2/27/16 Guns Kill, but Laws Never Will Guns have been used throughout history for many reasons including hunting, fighting in wars, and for personal safety. Unfortunately, guns have also been used negatively and have caused many deaths. There have been laws in place to control the use of guns throughout history starting in the late 1700s. The first law was the Second Amendment which guaranteed the, right of the people to keep and bear arms. KRCRTV.com reported on February 19, 2013 that the first gun control laws were created in Georgia in 1837 banning hand guns. Obama wanted to strengthen the ban on assault weapons, which were the weapons used by several killers in mass shootings in 2015. Most mass shootings are committed by people with mental illnesses, or people who were bullied or frustrated at work. With weak gun control people are able to purchase guns easily, and those that want to use them for mass shootings have very little standing in their way. Mass shooters, people with mental issues, and people with criminal backgrounds are all able to acquire guns, which calls for stricter background checks to be performed. Some countries have very restrictive background checks that require people to take gun training, get a hunting license, and show proof of membership to a shooting range. They also require that people prove that they are not mentally ill, do not have a criminal background, are old enough to have a gun, and do not have a police record. Frederick Lemueux from Slate Magazine says, With these provisions, most U.S. active shooters would have been denied the purchase of a firearm. In addition, a study from the John Hopkins Center for Gun Control Policy and Research found that after the backgrounds checks were no longer required beginning in 2007 in Missouri, the murder rate increased 16 percent. If background checks had continued in this state, many of these murders would not have occurred because the shooters would not have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next terrace Dante goes to is for the avaricious or the greedy. They are flat on their faces, their gaze fixed on Earth, and their backs to heaven. This represents the way they acted in life, turning their attention toward Earthly goods, subsequently turning their back to God. On the next terrace, there is a huge tree with sweet smelling fruit. INTRODUCTION: Classical robots are usually single complex pieces of electromechanical hardware designed to perform a task. They are typically expensive, specialized, and complicated. An alternate approach is to use a swarm composed of a large number of very simple robots that work together, rather than a single highly capable robot. In this approach, the strength of the system comes not from the complexity and power of a piece of hardware, but from the cooperation of a large number of individuals. As the cost of simple robotic components goes down and availability goes up, this approach becomes increasingly feasible. It is currently possible, for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For successful operation they need appropriate communication strategies that should be dynamically adaptable to possibly changing environmental requirements. A promising way to achieve this is through the use of an evolutionary robotics (ER) approach, i.e., using evolutionary algorithms to evolve the robots controllers. Swarm Robotics is a new approach to the coordination of multi robot systems which consist of large numbers of usually, but not necessarily, simple physical robots. It is an interesting alternative to classical approaches to robotics because of some properties of problem solving by social animals, which is flexible, robust, decentralized and self organized. 6. • 11. Data Anonymization Essay 1. INTRODUCTION Data in its original shape contains sensitive information about individuals, and publishing such data will breach individual privacy. The recent practice in data publishing relies mainly on rules and guidelines as to what kinds of data can be published and on agreements on the use of published data. This approach may lead to extreme data distortion or inadequate protection. Privacy preserving data publishing provides methods and tools for publishing useful information and also for preserving data privacy. Privacy preserving data publishing was intended to construct published tables in a way that allows systematic tasks (e.g., aggregate query answering, data mining) over the published data and also for protecting the privacy of individual s data. Privacy preserving data mining refers to the area of data mining that seeks to preserve the sensitive information from unsolicited or unendorsed disclo¬sure. The major objective of privacy preserving data mining is to construct the algorithms for modifying the original data in various ways, so that the confidential data and knowledge remain confidential even after the mining process. Data anonymization is the process of obscuring published data to prevent the identification of the key information. There are two approaches known as generalization and suppression used in the anonymization process. Generalization is the process of replacing less specific value with the higher value. • 12. Network Coverage Based On Cell Size Essay Heterogeneous Network The operators are using better modulation schemes [1], better coding rate, multi antenna technique for increased throughput and efficiency. But this alone will not suffice as the resources are limited and there are near far problems associated with a macro cell. One alternative to increasing the throughput and quality of service is through cell split. To increase the capacity of a cell, a large cell is divided into smaller cells with each cell having its own serving base station and serving an area much less than that of a macro cell. A cell can split into micro, Pico and Femto cells. A micro cell serves an area of less than 2kms with the base station having a transmit power range of 5 watts. With further reduction in the transmit power, a cell known as Pico cell can serve an area of 100 meters or less and is mostly used to provide coverage in buildings. A Femto cell with transmission power of less than 200 Mw provides the least amount of coverage. Fig. 1 Network coverage based on cell size Thus while Macro cell can provide a wider coverage, in high density areas small cells can be used for data offloading, both indoors and outdoors. This architecture shown in Fig. 1 results in Heterogeneous Network. Thus Het nets have been introduced in the LTE Advanced to provide increased throughput and capacity [5]. • 17. Aldo Leopold’S Essay “The Land Ethic” Was Published In Aldo Leopold s essay The Land Ethic was published in A Sand County Almanac. The short paper confronts the imperfections in the most common approaches in preserving the environment. Leopold s answer is to develop a new branch of environmental ethics to model humanity s ever changing relationship with the environment. Leopold observantly describes the history of ethics, the meaning of community with the land and why it s appropriate to do so. Toward the end of the essay as the reader is ready for Leopold to thoroughly explain his moral code he ambiguously finishes, A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. But this is nearly impossible because Leopold doesn t have the answers to fix the biotic clock. Any viewpoint he relays might result in complete failure. Leopold is calling for a philosophical shift rather than a change in our actions. In the beginning of the essay, Leopold references The Ten Commandments and The Golden Rule. The pair of ethical viewpoints guides our everyday relationships in society. The Ten Commandments is a documentation of ten moral rules that are set in stone (pun intended.) The Golden Rule is a single principle of mutuality: treat others how you want to be treated. While one approach is only to be obeyed, the other depends on deep self reflection. To truly know how to treat someone, we must think about consequences and respect one another. The land ethic is not a list of rules, which should be taken for what it is, but an attitude that can change on a daily basis. Leopold seeks to reconstruct humanity s ethical knowledge to its core. He observes the way humans interact compassionately, and is determined to explain why it is important to extend this compassion to the environment. It is inconceivable to me that an ethical relation to the land can exist without love, respect, and admiration for land and a high regard for its value (Leopold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conversely, The Flavr Savour tomato possesses supressed activity of the enzyme polygalacturonase. The suppression contributes to the fruits ability to stay harder for longer allowing it to stay on the vine. This suppression allows the tomato to develop its natural flavours and ripen as it stays on the vine for a longer time period. This flavour saving process lead to the products name The Flavr Savr . The Flavr Savr tomato is created through the use of antisense gene technologies to decrease the polygalacturonase activity. The kan(r) is a gene from the bacteria Escherichia coli, alongside with the gene from the Flavr Savr tomato they are inserted into a plasmid that resembles a round ring of DNA. These plasmids are further inserted into a group of normal tomato cells in a medium growth that contains the kanamycin antibiotic Engel 7. This process produces the APH (3 ) II substance that allows the cell to become resistant to the antibiotic. This process is used to identify the genetically transformed genes. The gene of the Flavr Savr initially coded for a strand of RNA, which was the reverse strand of RNA that occurs in a natural tomato plant. The original RNA strand contains the enzyme polygalacturonase degrading the cell wall, making the fruit soft. • 22. Essay on The History of Music Industry In the past, music has been a costly business, where only people with a lot of money could enter and be successful in the industry. Changes in the music industry coupled with new computer technology have made it much easier for people without a lot of money to compose, produce, and distribute their creation. In order to get a better understanding of the music industry in comparison to 2014, one has to look at its history. There were many things that happened from the 1980 s onward, and they brought on a significant impact towards the music industry. Development in computer technology has also made a big impression on music. Many things within these fields have enabled artists to connect with their fans in a way they couldn t before, and on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were many changes in the business of music records from the 1980s onward. For example, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 law was passed. This enabled a free for all in for the record companies and granted them the ability to compete with anyone in the market. What ended up happening was the companies bought each other left and right until there were 5 or 6 big companies that ran everything. The record industry controlled music production, distribution, and airplay on the radio. Radio started out on the AM frequencies, then later the FM higher fidelity stations. The only way to get music through to the masses feasibly was to go through the highly selective record companies because they were the only ones who could mass produce music. To distribute, first they sold music on gramophone records, an early distribution medium made of processed shellac from the lac bug. Then they moved on to track tapes, vinyl records, compact cassettes, and eventually CDs. Emerging digital Era: 1980 s And Beyond: Gradually after this event, the medium for music had changed, from various types of analog grooved discs, to various types of magnetic tape based reels and cartridges, to compact discs, or CDs, to digital downloads. An early revolution in music portability was created by a device called the Walkman cassette player. This device was based on a similarly designed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Causes And Effects Of The Detroit Race Riot Of 1967 Law and Disorder White Americans have discriminated against African Americans ever since the first white men bringing with them their slaves set foot in what would become the continental United States. America s roots lie in imperialistic expansionism during which white men took advantage of those with a darker skin color whom they deemed unequal. The photograph of the devastating aftermath of the Detroit Race Riot of 1967 vividly captures the white Americans sense of dominance towards the disenfranchised African Americans. Though the photo lacks an easily identifiable original source, it has circulated around the internet and now serves as an epitome of the voiceless black American community s stance in the wake of destruction against the rest of America; it signifies what is still known as The Great Rebellion in Detroit, as the black Americans expressed their rage against the failure of American institutions (Flock). The picture s illustration of the rubble among the street, pillaged stores, and thick black clouds of smoke billowing into the sky conveys the ruins that not only Detroit suffered, but also African Americans across America. The graphic image depicts the inequality and oppression black Americans endured in the face of the unscrupulous, corrupt white American empire. Ultimately, the photo represents United States as an imperial country founded on racial hierarchy. Racial divisions have plagued America throughout history. For example, during the 1960s, the ... • 24. A Coupled Model Of Transport, Turbulence, And Mesoscale Flows A coupled model of transport, turbulence, and mesoscale flows is proposed, including turbulence spreading. The model consists of transport equations for plasma density and pressure coupled to a shell model of drift wave turbulence, which incorporates coupling to mesoscale flows via disparate scale interactions. The model can describe the turbulent cascade and its dynamical interplay with zonal and mean shear flows as well as the profile evolution (including the profiles of turbulence intensity itself) due to these self consistent turbulent fluxes. This simple system of equations is shown to capture the low to high confinement (L H) transition. It is also observed that as the heating is increased, the system goes through an intermediate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance the models including the effect of evolution of plasma turbulence driven by profile gradients were proposed and studied by various authors (see, e.g., Refs. 7 and 18). In particular, the model of Miki et al.7,19,20 has the advantage of including oscillations between two predators (zonal flows and mean flows) and one prey (turbulence) while achieving the L H transition. As such, it is also able to describe an L I H transition (L H transition with an intermediate phase), which was initially predicted by a 0D model.21,22 However in most of the reduced models, the transport coefficients are determined by an ad hoc shear suppression rule. Here we propose an approach based on shell models, where the shear suppression and the predator prey dynamics are natural results of the disparate scale interactions incorporated within the shell model description. The model that is introduced in this paper is interesting for various reasons. It is significant, for instance, in that it makes use of a simple description of turbulence based on shell models, yet it is able to describe the complex interplay between turbulence and zonal flows in a natural self consistent way, without making use of ad hoc steady state relations such as the shear suppression rule. But this number could have been much greater if it was not for the efforts of many courageous people. There is not an exact number of how many people were saved during the Holocaust, but the death toll would have been much larger if people, like Raoul Wallenberg, did not help. Raoul Wallenberg was a Swedish businessman and diplomat who showed much moral courage by saving countless Jews during World War II. Raoul Wallenberg was born on August 4, 1912 in Sweden. He was born into one of the richest families in Sweden, the Wallenbergs. Since his family was very wealthy, he had the opportunity to attend college abroad in another continent. In 1931, Wallenberg went to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in the United States to study architecture. He graduated in three and a half years with a bachelor s degree of Science in Architecture. This bachelor s degree allowed him to come into contact with many Jews that had escaped from Europe during the early years of persecution while he was working on architecture in Palestine (Raoul Wallenberg). In June 1944, the War Refugee Board, or WRB, a U.S. established organization that helped support rescue missions for Jews, recruited Wallenberg to lead their operations in Budapest, Hungary. An analysis of the responses to the Senate Report on CIA Interrogation The fight against the war on terrorism has initiated a debate in the United States over the use of torture and advanced interrogation techniques to extract information needed to protect the safety of its citizens. In lieu of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, government officials believed that using extensive force against suspected is justified, especially if such force results in the prevention of future planned attacks. Others reject torture and the methods used by the government agencies, especially the CIA, as both unreliable and an affront to legal and civilized norms of behavior. In December of 2014, The Senate Intelligence Committee Report on CIA torture, drafted by the bipartisan United States Select Committee on Intelligence, brought light to the controversy by unearthing the methods and techniques used to interrogate detainees, prisoners of war, and suspected terrorists. The findings have ignited strong opposition and outcry among the citizens, critics of the government, and foreign nations. The aftermath of this report have prompted two important questions: Should the CIA be held responsible for its actions and face investigations, prosecution, and full legal action or should the CIA have the ability to act and determine policies they seem fit to protect the U.S. from any threats and outside forces? Haiti Earthquake Summary This case study involves the troubled aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the unkept promises made to Haiti by surrounding countries, most notably, the United States. The story focuses on Pierre, the student of a state university in Florida, whose parents migrated to Florida from Haiti in the mid 1970s. The passage begins with Pierre desperately voicing his concerns to his professor for Haiti and the lack of involvement and compassion the outside world has for Haiti during such devastating times. Although the United States is not the only country guilty of unfulfilled promises to Haiti, most Haitians have directed their anger toward the US due of feelings of betrayal (Pg. 115). America has a history of exploiting Haiti for self gain under the disguise of aid , most notably in regard to Haiti s small scale farming. Haitians now rely on imported US rice, a product they once grew for themselves. The US is also responsible for the extermination of Haiti s 1.3 million pigs (Pg. 116). As we observe the integrity found in the life of Daniel, we catch him in Chapter 6 headed to the lion s den. The famous Bible story of Daniel and the lions den is more than a simple account of God s deliverance. It also shows that no one is a match for the true God. Daniel had been in captivity approximately 66 years serving faithfully and with distinction in the reign of the Babylonian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. When the Medo Persian Empire conquered Babylon, Daniel begins serving King Darius. With Daniel s background and wisdom, he is quickly promoted by the new king to an elevated position of envy. Daniel was given the gift of prophecy even though he would not claim the title of prophet. The Puritan life, although simple, demanded diligence both mentally and spiritually which put stress on even the most faithful of followers. Author Anne Bradstreet shows in her work Here Follows Some Verse upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 that religious struggles are often met by Puritans and it takes brave souls to admit their difficult time with their religion. The content expressed in this poem mirrors the materialistic struggles most Puritans felt with their faith at one point or another. This is evident when we analyze the political ascension of New Right figures Margaret Thatcher in Britain, and Ronald Reagan in the US. Thatcher, noted for her self described war on labour and Reagan for his trickle down economic scheme were both revered by our own Brian Mulroney, who emulated their efforts, facilitating enhanced corporate sovereignty in Canada. Darkness And Darkness In John Milton s Relation To Darkness Perhaps, within one line, Milton describes the nature of all emitted light; that it must, if we are to call it light, be considered in relation to darkness and that darkness must be considered in relation to light; that a thing cannot be without its opposite, since any one member of an antithesis cannot exist without a counter member, or an anti member; as a white horse cannot be compared to a black one without the black one being present; A cannot be compared to B unless B is present; by extension, an antithesis works by expressing two extremities of any one quality, the antithesis of white is black, since, if we were to evaluate colour, white suggests the prescience of white and the absence of black, and vice versa. But, to what degree is blackness said to exist in whiteness? Are they two separate qualities? Is one merely the absence of the other? Is so, the true nature of the antithesis is of one existent thing to a non existent thing. Suppose we are to compare lightness to darkness: if light is said to exist, as an emission which illuminates darkness, then light can only be considered as something which illuminates darkness, and thus can only be considered in relation to darkness; likewise, if we are to call darkness that thing which covers light, it must be considered in relation to its opposite, which supposes that both exist; but, if we suppose that both exist, than darkness cannot be the absence of light but must rather be covering of it. Woolf takes the reader on a psychological roller coaster with flashbacks to Mrs. Dalloway s life, specifically her teen age to college years. She shows us all of the decisions Dalloway had to make and how those decisions had shaped her life. Clarissa Dalloway had chosen a life that would be safe for her, by marrying well and having a child, by living the proper political life. Throughout the novel, Clarissa thinks back onto how she could have had a life of sexual freedom and excitement with Richard, her ex lover from her college years. Of course this is all put into play by the arrival of him from India, because she hadn t seen him in a very long time. All of these occurrences and flashbacks just add to Clarissa s growing depression that she barely is able to hold onto in the story. The most interesting and most significant aspect of Mrs. Dalloway is that it takes place in one day, which is what Cunningham and Daldry built their book and movie off of. The idea of telling a story of a woman s thoughts in one day is an amazing one because it is so intrinsic and specific that going past one day would take forever to divulge and digest. One of the most important parts of Mrs. Dalloway is the relationship between Septimus and Clarissa. Woolf uses Septimus, a war veteran who s got shell shock, as the alternate persona to Clarissa. I like to think that Septimus was the brain and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By this point we are 60 to 70 years old and ready to retire in some level of comfort and dignity, without having to work anymore retirement and our declining years, they say. That lasts another dozen years, give or take a decade. The level of comfort and dignity one enjoys during those final years is measured mostly by the wealth we have managed to accumulate during the 3 or 4 decades we toiled at those chosen professions we spent so many years preparing for. For most of us, that wealth consists mainly in something modern society calls a pension. Because most of us lack the discipline, sophistication, or skills needed to set aside and invest money during our working years, the task of accumulating pension funds is left mainly up to our employers, who in turn hire highly specialized teams of people to administer those pension funds. Some of them do that extremely well; others not so much. Because not all employers offered pensions, in 1935 Congress passed legislation authorizing the federal government to tax workers and their employers, in exchange for guaranteeing a basic pension. That legislation was the Social Security Act. Social Security was never intended to replace employer provided pensions, or to discourage workers from accumulating their own retirement funds. Rather, the intent was that Social Security would provide a guaranteed base upon which workers and their employers could build. Employer provided pensions are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Influence of Realism and Naturalism on 20th Century... The Influence of Realism and Naturalism on 20th Century American Fiction After World War I, American people and the authors among them were left disillusioned by the effects that war had on their society. America needed a literature that would explain what had happened and what was happening to their society. American writers turned to what is now known as modernism. The influence of 19th Century realism and naturalism and their truthful representation of American life and people was evident in post World War I modernism. This paper will try to prove this by presenting the basic ideas and of these literary genres, literary examples of each, and then make connections between the two literary movements. Realism Modernism not only depicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literary naturalism invited writers to examine human beings objectively, as a scientist studies nature ( Am. Lit. Compton s). In portraying ugliness and cruelty, the authors refrained from preaching about them; rather they left readers to draw their own conclusions about the life they presented. Generally, these authors took a pessimistic view to portray a life that centered on the negative part of man s existence. When dealing with society directly, naturalists generally detailed the destruction of people without any sentiment. To do this, they wrote more open about society s problems in a more open manner usually using nature as a symbol for society. Naturalistic literature, like! realistic, served as a catalyst for change but, in contrast, was a little more like propaganda. Even though only twenty years may have separated them, the transformation from realism/naturalism to modernism was a long one in terms of how much society had changed. The aforementioned rapid change in American society and America s relation with the rest of the world left America in disarray. After the first World War, American society was divided and left without definition. This called for a new age of literary expression to control and document the isolationist fears , corruption , and disenchantment (Bradley 1339 1340) caused by the war. Authors looked to explain their generation and to respond to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Siberian Lynx Research Paper The Siberian Lynx (Lynx lynx wrangeli) is a subspecies of the Eurasian lynx. They inhabit Siberia east of the Yenisei River and in other parts of Russia. The climate is frequently very cold. Eurasian lynxes are the largest of all lynxes. Males weigh upwards of 65 lbs. (about 30 kg); have a height of 30 in. (75 cm) at the shoulder, and a length of 50 in. (130 cm). The Siberian subspecies gets particularly big with males reaching as much as 90 lbs. Their paws are wide, enabling them to walk across snow. Long tuffs of fur sprout from the tips of their ears. Their bodies display an interesting assortment of colors and patterns. These can be yellowish, grayish, or rusty in color with patterns of spots, stripes, or without a notable pattern. Siberians are typically more gray and white in appearance. The fur thickens considerably during winter. Mating happens usually during the months of February and March. The cats will select dens that provide relative safety, such as rocky crags or in heavy underbrush. Females give birth to one to four young. The kittens will be ... As is often the case, poaching, prey depletion, and habitat destruction are a problem. History has shown that any species can be quickly devastated. The last century has seen a marked downturn in the numbers of various subspecies. One of these, the Balkan lynx, is currently listed as critically endangered. Around two million Americans are diagnosed with this illness, although not much is known about it. Scientists have still not been able to pin point what causes schizophrenia. The part of the brain that is mostly impacted is the prefrontal cortex, which helps with thinking and planning. The team focused on a location in the human genome called the MHC. They found that the MHC has four variants of C4, which produced two different proteins, C4 A and C4 B. After analyzing 64,000 people they concluded that schizophrenics were more likely to have overactive forms of C4 A than non schizophrenic people. This finding made them believe the C4 A was the gene which may cause schizophrenia. This idea was then tested by Dr. Stevens, an assistant professor of neurology. Mice were used in the experiment to see if the nonexistence of the gene which produces C4 would impact the synaptic pruning. The experiment showed that the mice bred without the C4 producing gene showed a problematic synaptic pruning process. This further supported McCarroll and Steven s theory that too much C4 A causes an excessive amount of pruning during development of the brain. This all explains why schizophrenics have a thinner prefrontal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
