Why Did Nathan Hale An American Spy
I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country . Nathan Hale was an american spy
born on June 6th,1755 in Coventry, Connecticut. Hale and his older brother, Enoch were sent to
Yale when Nathan was 14 and Enoch was 16. Hale was caught spying by the british on
September 21st, 1776 and was killed by the british on September 22nd, 1776 in New York, New
York. After his death there were rumors that his loyalist cousin Samuel Hale ratted out Nathan and
told the british about his spying. There are three reasons to why Hale was one of the most
influential heroes of the revolution. He was one of the first spies in the revolution, he was a martyr
/patriot, and he was brave enough to spy on the british. On September 10th, 1776 General

Strunk and White’s Elements of Style Essay
Strunk and White s Elements of Style
A typical science fiction fan can be more familiar about Star Trek and it s characters than some of
their own family members. For those that are not all that familiar with this Sci Fi show, Star Trek
remains as a very well known icon in television history. The crewof the Starship Enterprise traveled
to mysterious planets, through mysterious galaxies. I wonder if this journey couldn t be compared
to the journey of style for the writer.
In Strunk and White s Elements of Style they state, Who knows why certain notes in music are
capable of stirring the listener deeply, though the same notes slightly rearranged are impotent?
These are high mysteries...There is no satisfactory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The laws of gravity operate differently in space then those very same laws operate on earth. For
example, in space, gravity is suspended and things tend to be far more weightless, and floating
about. If you were aiming for an object to land at a certain destination, it would most likely
never make it there without some type of guidance system to manipulate and use the laws of
gravity. On earth, the law of gravity pulls objects down from great heights to great depths in a
matter of minutes or seconds. Depending on the purpose and where you are, it takes an awareness
of the laws like gravity to use that law correctly and fulfill your purpose in space or on earth.
Likewise, style is a law of writing as gravity is a law. Like the law of gravity, we have to be
aware of the laws of style. Gravity exists whether we like it or not. Style also exists whether we
want it to or not. If you ignore the laws of gravity, you will either crash to your death, or be left
floating in space. With style, a writer will either carry the reader to the intended destination, or
leave the reader floating like a man lost in space, without any understanding on what your point was.
I have established a concept of style as a law of writing. This doesn t take away the fact that it is a
complex law. The very word style eludes people like the mysteries of deep space. People chase after
different types of styles, pay for the coolest style, or even resent

Matrix the Movie and The Lathe of Heaven Essay
Matrix the Movie and The Lathe of Heaven
The world is not always what you think it is. Things change or can appear to be
different than what you originally thought them to be. So are the worlds in the Matrix and
the novel The Lathe of Heaven. What you thought you knew about your life just went out
the window. There are several similarities between the novel and the movie, and there are
many trends in the movies and novels societies that are portrayed in our society as well.
Also, each proves LeGuins theory on science fiction.
The Lathe of Heaven and The Matrix have many similarities. Both utilize the
number three by providing main characters in sets of three. Also, The Matrix brings an

The Lathe of Heaven has no future; the present is the basis of the plot. For
example, every time Orr has a session with Haber, Orr changes the present and
retroactively changes the past. Playing by LeGuins rules for science fiction helps shape
both stories and help put both into a league of their own.
The Matrix and Lathe of Heaven provide example of trends in modern society
throughout their plot. First, both the movie and the novel both portray characters that
have a God Complex. Meaning that they believe they have all the power and it is up to
them to create a world that they see fit. In the Matrix it is the Creator and in the Lathe
of Heaven it is Dr. Haber. In our society we have had and do have dictators that feel like
they are in complete control of how the world should be. There was Hitler, who decided
we need to exterminate over 6 million Jews and millions of others. A modern day
example would be George W. Bush. He acts with consent of the established government
and does what he thinks what is in our best interest, without listening to our own ideas
what we feel what our best interests are. This is dangerous to society just like in the
Lathe of Heaven Haber tries to control society with what he thinks is best, bringing
death and destruction by means of a deadly plague and virus. Bush has ordered the
bombing of dozens of

Essay About My Speech
The first time I realized I had a speech impediment I was 5 years old. My cousins and I were
sitting on the back porch of my grandmother s house, on a hot summer afternoon in August. We
were talking about how pretty the flowers looked in my grandmother s backyard, when I said, I
just love lellow flowers. As soon as that statement left my mouth, everyone laughed at me. I
remember thinking, Why are they all laughing at me? They asked me to say it again, and I said
lellow. Until they told me I was saying it wrong, I never knew. My cousins laughing at me
continuously embarrassed me for the way I spoke. Whenever you are around a person for so long,
you get used to the way they act and speak. When the school called my mother while I was... Show

Allie, don t make fun of your little sister like that. She cannot help it, Mother says. That never
stopped Allie. She started to mimic me any time I did not say a word correctly. Whenever she
would do it, I would feel embarrassed and frustrated. We learned later my kindergarten year that I
could not pronounce R, S, and T sounds. Mrs. Reeves had to completely re teach me how to say
those sounds. It took an insane amount of work for me to re learn those sounds. I would work
every day at school and at home with my parents. Knowing I had a speech problem made me never
want to speak out loud in front people. Whenever we would have to read out loud in class, my
teacher would help me pronounce the words. The teacher would help me, but I would cry
because I could not pronounce the words. My classmates would get aggravated any time I had
to read out loud because they knew I could not say the words correctly. I was embarrassed and
never wanted to read in front of the class. However, one thing I never had a problem doing was
speaking in front of my friends. They knew I had a problem speaking, but they never seemed to
mind. They would help me whenever I needed a few words. They never judged me for my
speech impediment. My friends were actually jealous because I was the only one to get out of
class. They would tell me, Gosh, you are so lucky to get out of class every day during Language. Or,

Argument Wellness
According to Maritain, the individual is a complex entity that holds the desires and wants of the
human being, and is willed to the universe for its own sake and stability. The person requires
community to manifest dignity, and seeks acknowledgement for who we are, and what we are,
as humans, and it allows for preferences of each being as it evolves. Because people have
inherent good in their essence, and, according to the encyclicals, are created in God s image, the
good is capable of transcending anything a political system has created. The good of the human
being is above the combined good of the physical universe because God became us, and so our
goodness is above anything and everything else. This inherent goodness that is within the being

The Reasons behind Homosexual Discrimination
One of the greatest poets of the twentieth century, Dr Seuss, once said, Be who you are and say
what you feel, because those who mind don t matter and those who matter don t mind . Essentially,
this advice is applicable to any given individual, yet it seems that it is most suitable for
homosexuals, and therefore why it lies within the heart of gay rights. It is inevitable, that as a
minority group, homosexuals will find that they will encounter more people who mind than
heterosexuals. This particular discrimination has been occurring for decades all across the globe;
however it became prominent in the United States in the 1950s. In 1953, under President
Eisenhower, it was decided that homosexualitywas a sufficient enough reason in itself to fire
people from federal jobs. This executive order stood from 1953 until 1993, providing support to
the idea that discrimination in employment ranked as the worst type of persecution gay people
faced at the time, second only to physical assault. Throughout the 1950s and well into the 1960s,
both lesbian and male drag queens suffered from frequent rapes and sexual assaults committed by
police officers. Further, those same police officers were certainly no help when gays were being
abused and raped by other hateful individuals. It was not until June 28, 1969 that a group of gay
customers at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village, finally took a stand
against the police harassment and created a riot. The

Loan Options For Real Estate Investing
Loan Options for Real Estate Investing
While investing in things like securities can cost as little as $20.00, investing in real estate
involves far more significant amounts of money. Most real estate investors don t have enough cash
on hand to cover the full cost of the property they are investing in. Instead, most are purchased
using some form of leverage. There are a number of loan options available to those who intend to
purchase real estate as an investment.
Residential Real Estate Financing
While there are many options when it comes to financing residential real estate investments. The
most popular of these are banks, private lenders, and a number of different government grants.
Traditional Bank Financing
This form of financing is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government Grants
The Federal Government offers a number of grants aimed at helping real estate investors to fund
distressed property investments. Of course, these grants do come with a set of rules in place. The
investor must not only meet specific financial criteria but must also agree to improve the property
before he attempts to sell it. If you don t have enough cash reserves in place to meet this
requirement, this might not be the best option.
Non traditional Private Lender Financing
Just because your credit score and lack of assets stops you from securing favorable terms with a
traditional lender, doesn t mean you should give up on your investment. There are a number of non
traditional loan sources worth considering, including seller financing, peer to peer lending
networks, loan assumption, interest only loans, self directed IRA purchases, even friends, and
family. Interests rates for many of these forms of financing may be higher due to the appearance of
you being a higher risk borrower.
Commercial Real Estate Financing Options
Unlike residential real estate financing with its various government grants, commercial real estate
investors have only two financing options. The choices they have are through a bank or private
lenders.
Financing Through the Bank
The bank is likely to look at the investor s current income statements along with recent tax returns,

Whaling In Japan
Part III: What I Learned Whaling has become a popular topic with in the last few decades. It has
been going on for centuries and was finally band in 1931 (Matera 3). But this didn t stop the
Japanese at all. By researching my topic I found that I did not know a lot about whaling, which
made me want to dig even deeper. At the beginning of this process, I looked into Whaling. I already
knew that there was a war going on between Japan and the United States because of the show Whale
Wars, but I didn t know any background information. I was always curious before but now I
actually had a reason to do research. In Part I of this project it asked me to describe everything I

I went to the Scottsdale Community College library website and searched whaling. All the sources
I chosen was through Academic Search Premier. Every thing that I read put me in a new
perspective about my topic. I learned that whaling has been going on since the eleventh century, and
commercial whaling became illegal in 1931 (Matera 3). I found out that the United States actually
whaled at some point but it was not for the meat, it was for the whale oil. During the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries, whaling started to become a problem. During this time Japan started to be the
main whaling country, this is when everything flipped upside down ( Greenpeace Says Japan
Ready for Whaling. ). In another source I was reading, I found out that in the 1980s, eight countries
joined the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to stop the world from whaling (Hyder 10). I
also looked more into the Sea Shepherds. The Sea Shepherds are a full volunteer based program
to go out into the artic and try and save as many whales as they can. Every year they go out and
face Japan s whaling fleet, which are five boats against the SS three. I learned that Japan got
very hostile in the last couple tours (Kita 3). They were ramming into the SS boats, even the little
speedboat, which was an eighth of the size of their ship. When I was reading a different article
called Whales , I learned that whales eat around forty thousand krill a day and if whales

Explain How Human Geography And Physical Geography
How human geography and physical geography overlap The influence of natural environment of
human activity are very huge. First of all, we have terrains. The influence of terrains on rural
tribes is very apparent. Rivers in plain area is less, and the terrain is complete, open and flat. So
the shape of the village assumes the circular or irregular polygon and more concentrated.
However, in river less area, villages along the river or valley stretching and villages scattered and
quite small. Second , the water. Villages are generally close to the water. In the water supply
adequate areas, Village is concentrated and have large scale. In water supply scarce areasпјЊthe
village is fragmented and smaller. In dry and desertareas, village is distributed in the area rich in
oasis or groundwater.
The third one is climate. If area rich in precipitation, most of the roof are inclined. This is in favour
for the rain come down. And most of the plants are very good live in the more water areas. So
people usually use bamboo to build their house. Because of the rain is very often, the ground and
the air are very damply. So people s houses usually impending. The less rainfall area home usually
use flat roof. So people usually use earth and rocks to build their house.
The fourth one is temperature. When the areas in the high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The International Level Through Foreign Language...
In a rapid globalizing world, America is not prepared to continue outshining other nations. Year after
year, countries throughout the globe are better preparing young individuals in the mathematics,
science and engineering fields. Students are better equipped to collaborate at the international level
through foreign language acquisitionand increased global cultural knowledge. New generations
bring new ideas, goals and standards, thus the rational ignorance of American citizens will further
prevent the United Statesfrom developing at its highest level. Keeping up with the global
competition will require a transformation in societal perspectives, with help from the media, as well
as different educational focuses beginning at the elementary level. The United States is not destined
to fail, but worldwide competition is increasing and adjustments are necessary for the American
population and its educational system in order to maintain competitiveness. According to the
Organization for Economic Co Operation and Development, the Program for International Student
Assessment (PISA) rated the United States 24th out of 34 OECD countries (Programme for
International Student Assessment Results from PISA, 2012). The PISA is designed to test 15 year
old students to determine if they can apply the skills and knowledge obtained in preceding
educational years to real world situations; PISA scores demonstrate the student s capability of

Every couple of months, I go to Trader Joe s. I enjoy their organic products and the prices as

consumers do not mind traveling far to their favorite chain stores. In Virginia Postrel s essay, In
Praise of Chain Stores, she lists the pros and cons of chain stores. I believe chain stores help the
city of Augusta. Chain stores have turned Augusta into an exciting place by bringing many
products to consumers, making visitors feel at home, and helping the economy. First of all, Chain
stores give consumers an array an options. Postrel mentions in her essay, Chain stores do more

These stores bring the soldiers from different areas, by reminding them of their favorite stores.
When my family came from New York, they talked about the food down here. One of the places
that was mentioned was Huddle House. Huddle House is a diner that serves breakfast, lunch and
dinner all day. Eating there reminded my cousin of growing up in Alabama. Being able to shop at
chain stores, helps tourists enjoy their favorite product or food. Thirdly, chain stores help the
economy. The author says that, Chains let people in a city of 250,000 enjoy retail amenities once
available to a huge metropolitan center. Costco is a warehouse that has members like Sam s Club.
When Costco opened in Augusta in 2011, the community was excited. Selling discounted item like
tires, cars, and bulk food items. Costco stays packed with customers. The Augusta Chronicle
reported that by having a Costco in the area, people are traveling from Columbia, SC and other
places that are much smaller than Augusta. The Augusta Chronicle also reported that a Costco
employee earns twelve dollars an hour. This is great with minimum wage being seven dollars and
twenty five cents an hour. Chain stores usually are very popular and keep customers coming back.
The more people that shop, the more employees need to be hired. Jobs are created when these big
retail stores open. Discounts are given to employees which can benefit both parties. In conclusion,

Journaling Is A Common Practice
An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across
the fingertips (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is
journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It
isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible
verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another.
Journaling has been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a
source of hope for many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful.
Journaling does not necessarily have a specific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us (ESV, Ps.
62.6 8). The Psalms were like David s personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards
God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David
questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and
times of significant triumph in his life.
Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and
people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the
most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today,
was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions
(Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim).
Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals
themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The
fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue:
diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in
faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate
expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people kept a journal

The Charge of the Light Brigade by Tennyson and The Last of the Light Brigade by Kipling
Generally both the poems are about very similar things. They are both focused on events relating
to the Crimean war. For example The Charge of the Light Brigade is written about an incident in
which the soldiers obeyed a clearly ridiculous order. Whereas The Last of the Light Brigade is
focused on an event after the war which links to the first poem by describing what has now
happened to the Light Brigade. Although both poems are generally about similar things I believe
that the authors have written their individual poems with clearly different messages. In The Charge

It shows of how the heroes have been forgotten. Both the authors use similar writing techniques
they both use contrast within their respective poems. In The Charge of the Light Brigade the most
obvious contrast is that of the number of soldiers who went into the battle and the number of
soldiers who came out. I think that the author tries to emphasise the loss of life as he concludes
each of the first three verses with the line Then they rode back but not, Not the six hundred. I think
this is the most obvious internal contrast in the first poem and one that Tennyson has deliberately
emphasised to great effect. Another internal contrast in Tennyson s poem may be the bravery the
men showed and the enormous fear they must of felt although, this may not be true as Tennyson
does not mention the fear but does ask the question Was there a man dismayed? This suggests that
there was no fear shown by the men, yet it may have been bottled up, as most soldiers feel afraid
going into battle In which they may be killed. Kipling also uses contrasts in Last of the Light
Brigade . The one contrast that is most

Weaknesss And Strengths Of A Department Store
Nowadays, with people busy with work, study and family, they tend to save time in anyways as

furniture under the same roof. As a result, people can find anything they need without driving
around different stores to find it. Among the department stores, Macy s and Dillard s are well

Secondhand Smoking Research Paper
There is an irrefutable correlation between the increasing effects of secondhand smoke on the health
and well being of human beings that are constantly in the vicinity of smokers. Evidently,
secondhand smoking has undeniably become problematic for a plethora of intense, health altering
reasons that include but are not limited to diseases and early death that are caused to nonsmokers
by secondhand exposure from the burning of tobacco. Even the smallest, briefest amount of
secondhand exposure causes immediate health implications. Laws that prohibit smokingin public
places have been proven to directly improve the health of people in those areas. Secondhand
smoking causes an increased risk for heart disease, stroke, SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome),
asthma, and lung cancer. Annually, over 45,000 nonsmokers die from implications brought about
by secondhand smoking. 34,000 of these deaths are deaths from heart disease, 8,000 from stroke,

What Does The Green Light Symbolize In Chapter 1
In the novel The Great Gatsby, there is a lot of symbolism. There are huge, obvious and also
small, hard to see symbolic messages. One of the small and hard to see symbolic messages is the
green light at the end of Daisy s dock. Depending on the things going on in the book, depends on
the symbolism in my eyes. I believe that the greenlight in chapter 1 means that there is hope, when
mentioned in chapter 5 it means fascination, and in chapter 9, I believe that the green light
symbolizes sadness.
In chapter 1 Nick meets Gatsby and they are talking. Gatsby notices the green light and reaches
for it. Gatsby reaches for this green light because he is in love with Tom s wife, Daisy. He used
to be in love with her a long time ago when he was in the military. They could not stay together
because he wasn t rich and couldn t afford a wedding. Some say that Gatsby was in love with
Daisy s mansion and not Daisy. I believe that at this point the green light symbolizes hope. This
symbolizes the hope that one day he and Daisy will be together again and the hope that she is still
in love with him because he is still in love with her. I also believe that this light is a signal for help.

Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished. I
believe that this is the symbolism for fascination. I believe that it is fascinating to Gatsby. I also

Toy Story Internal Conflict
a. The pixar film Toy Story presents an external conflict with our main characters Woody and
Buzz Lightyear. Buzz is the new toy in Andy s Room and starts getting too much attention for
Andy s favorite toy Woody s liking. Once Andy starts to favor Buzz, Woody becomes jealous
leading to his attempt to exterminate Buzz by pushing him out the window. The rest of the
movie is about Woody finding Buzz and bringing them back home safely while learning to live
with each other s differences. I believe this story to be a representation of person versus person.
The Hunger Games as in the first novel by Suzanne Collins presents an external conflict against

Sabaa Tahir s book An Ember in the Ashes presents an internal conflict with our main character
Elias. Son of the tyrant called Commandment, Elias has trained all of his life to be a ruthless
soldier and more recently the new emperor of Serra. However, Elias thinks differently than his
peers and does not want to live out his days as a human weapon, cutting down anyone who
opposes him like his mother the Commandment. This type of conflict can be specified as person

society. Madison shows up in a world different from her own in pursuit of her long time love,
Allan. However, Allan s world is not very accepting towards Mermaids believing they are nothing

traditions like eating with utensils, wearing clothes, speaking English and paying for things all
while trying to keep her secret from Allan and the scientist who wants to share it with the public

Julius Caesar and Yitzhak Rabin
History, it either repeats itself or we learn and grow from the mistakes of others. In history we
had not so great men and we had more than great men, the way they thought, their actions, and
their war tactics shaped the modern day leaders. The peace maker, and the king among kings
share a lot of things in history like war and peace, home life, and love lives. In this essay I will be
talking about Julius Caesar and Yitzhak Rabin lives in history and comparing these two great leaders
in history.
It is hard to say when Julius Caesar was born, but it is estimated that he was born July 12 or 13,
100 BC. His family are far from rich, He is the son of Gaius Caesar and Aurelia Caesar, however
his father died when he was 16 so he stayed very close to his mother. Caesar married a nobleman
s daughter name Cornelia, they both had a daughter, Julia Caesaris, but sadly Cornelia died in
69 BC. Two years later he marries the granddaughter of the dictator Sulla, Pompeia, they were
married for five years before they were divorce. He married for the final time to a young lady,
Calpurnia, whom will stay with him till the end, even though he had numerous mistresses
including Cleopatra VII, whom she had a baster son name Caesarion. Raging with anger, the
dictator Sulla demanded that Caesar either divorced or loss all his land, he instead joined the
military. Before Sulla died, Caesar and a couple of his closest friends convince him to let Caesar
back into Rome. Caesar rose to power, others got jealous and even one of the leaders were not
fully over his enemy, however Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Pompey became known as the
First Triumvirate. Once again Caesar shows his abilities as someone who can negotiate and unit
people together. Soon after however Pompey grew more and more jealous of his partner, while
Crassus never got over his disdain for Pompey. All three patch things up for a little while in 56 BC
in Luca, Caesar already ruled a territorial and extended for another five years, gave Crassus a five
year term in Syria and gave Spain to Pompey for Five years as well. Three years later Crassus was
killed in a terrible battle in Syria, at the same

The Disaster Planning Or Management
Although there were numerous predictions that a category 4 or 5 could hit New Orleans, very
little disaster planning or management was accomplished before Katrina hit in August 2005
(Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). After Katrina made landfall August 29th, several sections of the
levee system collapsed including levees protecting the Ninth Ward (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10).
The manmade MRGO channel caused the problems it was predicted; the channel increased the
power and the size of the waves that destroyed many levees (Heerden, Kemp, Bea, Shaffer, Day,
Morris, Fitzgerald, and Milanes, 2009, p306). By early September, people were forcibly
evacuated and the storm displaced more than 1.5 million people (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10).
According to Lalwani, et al. (2007, p10), Katrina was the most destructive and costliest natural
disaster in the history of the United States, with an estimated $75 billion worth of damage. Months
after the hurricane, 3,200 people were unaccounted for and many of the low lying areas, most of
which were poor and minority neighborhoods, were still under water. People were stranded in their
homes or at evacuation centers without food or water. Those in charge did not supply those in need
with aid in a timely manner that is expected. According to Ripley, Bennett, Thomas, Calabresi,
Donnelly, Thompson, Tumulty, Waller, Zagorin, Chu, DeQuine, and Klarreich (2005), The first 72

The British Petroleum And Bp Oil Spill Essay
The British Petroleum (BP) Oil Spill occurred in April of 2010 and hurt many people, animals,
businesses, and the economy of the many cities it impacted. It is recognized as the worst oil
spill in the history of the United States, killing eleven people. The spill occurred due to a leak in
a pipe that spilled oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The BP Oil well was not capped until 87 days
later, by which 3.19 million barrels of oil had already spilled into the the Gulf of Mexico. The
BP Oil spill did not only impact humans but sea animals too, including shrimp, lobsters, dolphins,
turtles, and more. To clean up the spill, more chemicals were dumped into the ocean to reduce the
size of the oil droplets causing the chemicals to also enter the food chain of these sea creatures as
well. Over one thousand miles of the Gulf of Mexico shoreline was affected by the British
Petroleumoil spill. But while the BP oil spill caused many damages to the Gulf of Mexico, it also
brought some benefits, including jobs for immigrants and the national economic financial crisis
started to withdraw.
Panama City and Destin being two cities, well known for their beautiful beaches was severely
impacted by this oil spill. Small and big businesses lost plenty of business as this spill occurred
during the two cities booming season of summer. If the spill had happened in the winter, it wouldn

adaptations have taken the story through various forms of popular culture. SpongeBob Squarepants,
a popular children s television show often alludes to classic literature, and makes it entertaining for
all ages. While this example is quite comical, it does hold classical elements associated with
Frankenstein, but takes a spin on the classic science fiction novel. In this essay I will consider the
similarities and differences between the two texts; Frankendoodle as well as Frankenstein . By

Myth Of The Ant Queen Analysis
Establishing nonhierarchical roles within a system is often debated as an efficient method for
internal innovation and stability. In Steve Johnson s essay Myth of the Ant Queen, Johnson
describes a phenomena known as emergent behavior, large patterns of uncoordinated local actions
which is prevalent in systems with nonhierarchial roles (199). The concept of emergent behavior is
a useful, however inaccurate, means of categorizing a systems structure; a self organizing system
must have some origin or initial degree of coordination or organization in order to properly
function. Furthermore, Cathy Davidson s essay Project Classroom Makeover, challenges the
current educational paradigm with an administrative and societal call to action through the iPod
experiment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, Davidson s educational experiments cannot be understood as examples of Johnson s
ideas of emergent behavior because of educators and not the students , abilities to maintain and
regulate the self preserving educational paradigm. However, her ideas will also fail to eliminate
hierarchial roles in the classroom...
A system s self organizing facade oftentimes disguises its ulterior motive of self preservation as a
form of emergent behavior. In Johnson s essay, he observes an ant colony that appears to think and
function in a nonhierarchial, self organizing format to serve their queen ant. However, the colony
functions in a genetically coordinated fashion, Their genes instruct them to protect their mother, the

Persuasive Speech About Youth Suicide
Nicole: Man it would just warm my heart. I know too many people who have lost children. I
know too many people here in the Manitou Springs school district. There were two youth who
took their lives in one year. I mean it hits home across the nation of course across the globe. You
study suicide rates for a variety of other causes across the globe, but it s everywhere. El Paso County
has one of the highest rates of youthsuicide so yeah I mean I would feel like I was actually
providing true public and community service by just doing as much as I possibly could to support
families in order to prevent that and to just bring some awareness to that. Half of it is just
awareness and the ability to have the conversation around it
Andrew: I think that that s huge Nicole and I think that s something that should really be talked
about and needs to be talked about. I also think as we re looking over not just messaging, but also
fundraising networks, we ve certainly seen an increase in youth homelessness in Manitou and
neighboring Colorado Springs and I think as you stated there s been an increase youth suicide and
just coming from my experience as a gay man I think there s some connections there. There would
be a lot of people in the LGBTQ community interested in helping people who are = committed to
those sort of issues with first being that LGBTQ youth make up about forty percent of the homeless
population and thus are more prone to teen suicide so I mean looking for different demographic and
groups whether it be looking at the LGBTQ community or the Latino community or whatnot I think
you know it is not just good for outreach and messaging to those communities, but also potentially
fundraising bases as well.
Nicole: Absolutely. I m so glad you brought that up because Urban Peak is an organization we
have down here. It s an amazing organization that deals with youth homelessness and I know the
director and communicate with her regularly. In fact, I just saw her at an event. Citizens Project
is another one that I attend their annual breakfast every year. I ve got to know several of those
folks and they are very vocal and outspoken of the LGBTQ community so that s a great point we

Discourse Analysis In Carl Sanburg s Grass
When analyzing a poem, it is important to understand the language that is being used. When
applying discourse theory to a poem, it is important to analyze the language beyond the sentence
itself. Discourse analysis studies the natural use of language, rather than the invented examples. The
main objective of discourse analysis is to create a better understanding of how language is used
through textual features and what effects it has on that investment. Texts often require these
features that enables the reader to understand the motivation of that author. In his poem, Grass, Carl
Sanburg utilizes verbs, proper nouns, and nouns to efficiently erase the signs of the past. In the
poem, Grass, the author uses many linguistic features throughout the poem, verbs being one of
them. Verbs are defined as words that are used to describe an action or a state, forming the main
objective of the sentence. Sanburg uses verbs consistently throughout his poem to describe the
actions in the poem. The first sentence of the poem states, Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and
Waterloo (Sanburg). He uses the wordpile, which can be inferred as a nounor a verb, which in this
sentence is used as a verb. The verb pile can infer two different meanings, one defined as placing
things one on top of another whereas the second meaning defines the entry of a large group in a
disorganized manner. The application of this word symbolizes the insignificant importance of these
bodies that now lay atop one

so much time and effort. The people involved in the changes want to help themselves, a group or
section of people, or just want to change the society as a whole. Some people want to make change
to something they believe in or something that is unfair in their opinion, and this will benefit
themselves and others. Throughout the history of America, women have struggled with equality

These people don t look at one small piece of the puzzle they look at all of America, and see the

has not only helped groups but also helped change society. Obama has been the most progressive
president in allowing LGBT community member join his administration, he is hoping for future
presidents to continue this by having more LGBT members in politics. Transgender people can
now legally change their gender so they can be correctly identified. The Don t Ask, DOn t Tell

change was with the Farm to Table movement. The first farm to table restaurant have dated back

The Theory Of Personality Theories
The personality theories available, as a collective whole, allow for the complete analysis of the
developing personality of an individual. The emphasis of this specific paper focuses on the
development of the author, Bryan Barker s personality. The theories that will be discussed in
the relation to the development of personality are the Big Five trait theory, with emphasis on
neuroticism, a phenomenological approach, and finally the learning and cognitive approaches.
A synthesis of the approaches on past and predicted behavior and events will help to create a
comprehensive documentation of the personality of today. To allow of the analysis of
personality, a description of the important decisions myself, the author, experienced or large
family events that as a result had a potential impact on personality development, will be

to know is the frequency in which my family moved, roughly once every four years until I
graduated eight grade. The moves were not across towns but to different states; Michigan,
Indiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, and have since settled in California for ten years. This
cannot be called a trauma, although the move from North Carolina to New Jersey was

Low Power Noise Tolerant Latch Design
In this paper an ultra low power and probabilistic based noise tolerant latch is proposed based on
Markov Random Field
(MRF) theory. The absorption laws and H tree logic combination techniques are used to reduce the
circuit complexity of MRF noise tolerant latch. The cross coupled latching mechanism is used at
the output of the MRF latch inorder to preserve the noise tolerant capability of MRF latch. The
proposed latch is faster than the latches presented in the literature and provides low power and high
noise immunity.
Hence we can achieve good trade off in terms of performance, robustness and cost. The latches are
evaluated in 180nm CMOS technology. The results obtained show that the proposed latch
consumes low power and highly noise tolerant.
Finally the proposed latch is applied in transmission gate based full adder circuit. In 180nm
technology the proposed adder can operate reliably with superior noise tolerance and low power
compared to conventional latch based full adder circuit. Keywords Markov Random Field (MRF)
latch, Markovian Property, C element, Single Event Upset (SEU), Soft error tolerant, Root Mean

Summary OfThe Poison Tree, And A Poison Tree By William Blake
During the Romantic Period, there was an overabundance of body hating within the mentality of
the orthodox Christian society. William Blake had apathy for organized religion because of how
restrictive it was. Orthodox Christianity impacts social and sexual issues, prevalent in sonnets My
Pretty Rose Tree, The Sick Rose, The Garden of Love, Ah! Sun flower and A Poison Tree. All
these sonnets are from the experience section of Blake s Songs of Innocence and Experience. Each
share common features of faltering innocence, experience, and deception. By comparing these
sonnets, it is apparent nature is a metaphor for a religionwhich is at the pinnacle of social and sexual
issues. Blake s quote from The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, as the caterpillar chooses the fairest
leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest lays his curse on the fairest joys (l.16 17) links to the idea
that nature indicates growth as a general idea from innocence to experience. In A Poison Tree,
nature becomes a symbol of vehement and deep indignation; even further, nature provokes death
when emotions are unreleased and suppressed. The Poison Tree indicates nature is a symbol for
destructive anger. A metaphor emerges with the tree growing as it represents his wrath (l.2). The
tree represents his growing, suppressed anger which becomes so prevalent it produces a
poisonous apple. In the morning glad I see, my foe outstretched beneath the tree (l. 15 16)
implements a dark side to humanity and the potential for innocence to falter. The danger of
vehement is reflected in the diction around the poisonous apple. Blake addresses the issue of
suppressed emotions, which grow inside the head until it eventually becomes destructive to the
self and others. Nature is an effective way to express emotions and give it human qualities because
it relates closely to the cycle of life humans endure. Furthermore, the idea that nature is a metaphor
for a bigger picture, is denoted in The Garden of Love, Ah! Sun flower, My Pretty Rose Tree and
The Sick Rose. These metaphors implement how important it is in the Romantic Period, to draw
connections between humans and nature. Blake uses nature to subtlety portray how religion
impacts social and sexual issues,

The Canadian Criminal Justice System
It is believed that while all human kind may have had common beginnings in the millennia past, the
course of human history prevents all races from reverting back to that common kind. It is further
believed that the racism that subsists in today s society does not exist in the same manner within
Canada. While Canadais an egalitarian society, a close examination would suggest that the blunt
historical and social truths of racism that are often smugly denied exist very much in Canadian
society and have seeped into the Canadian criminal justicesystem. The racialization of crime,
discriminatory policing, minority overrepresentation in prison populations and a blatant denial of
justice are aspects of the system that taint much of its past and create a worried present. This paper
argues against the prevalent Canadian defence of egalitarianism by establishing the presence of
systemic discrimination within the Canadian criminal justice system.
Whether it is through print or through television screens, the press is the today s public s sole
source of news; especially news about crime and the courts. The tendency of the press to focus on
crimes committed by minorities majorly influences the justice system s reaction to minority
offenders. A minority criminal is never given the racial anonymity that a non minority criminal
enjoys. The following are news headlines and/or excerpts from court reports illustrating the
aforementioned; : Warm Pipe Scorches Chink Opium User (Toronto

In this era, playwrights aren t afraid to address societal issues or culturally conflicting concepts.
Postmodern theatre raises theory to the rank of a playful activity (Pavis) meaning plays have
the ability to explore. At the same time of Postmodern s entrance into the theatre world, the
Sexual Revolution was beginning to turn heads in American politics. LGBT+ movements were
starting to make advancements, and alternative sexualities were beginning to expose themselves
in a variety of medians, such as in the spread of pornography and sex icons. As a response to the
sexual revolution s call to action for recognition and acceptance, postmodern playwrights began
incorporating these aspects into their work. Magnificent pieces such as Angels In America by
Tony Kushner are now addressing the issue of gay oppression, as well as recognizing it as an
ordinary sexuality rather than a taboo. It provided the audience with theatre s first view inside the
closet of gay life (Gainor). Following the life of a closeted gay man and his daily struggles,
Kushners work established the groundwork for the subtopic of queer theatre. The rise of
Postmodern theatre allows for the rise of queer theatre, which promotes artist to question and
respond from individualist perspectives, rather than historical or collective ones (Doland). Feminist
and Lesbian activist playwright Carol Churchill exemplifies this concept of marrying individual
experiences with historical context in an analytical way. Her masterpiece Cloud Nine follows the
story of a 19th century English family in both the 1800s and 1980s respectfully in two acts. Her

Literature V And Catullus
Literature from different time periods and different parts of the world has served as a mode of
influencing people and sparking reform. However, sometimes pieces of literature have unknowingly
influenced other modern day aspects. These similar connections may be found in other present day
literary works, or films, songs, events, and just about anything. For instance, the ancient poem,
Carmen 8 written by Roman poet, Catullus greatly influenced the modern day song, I Fall Apart
performed by Post Malone through similar uses of egocentric tone, masculine stereotypes, battling
internal conflicts, the theme of rejection, and a sense of a deranged mind.
To being with, the ancestor work, Carmen 8 written by Catullus in a few words is a pep talk to
himself, after an illicitly amorous affair between Catullus and a woman by the pseudo name of
Lesbia suddenly ends. The poem opens with Catullus chiding himself for being too gullible and
not noticing the obvious end to the affair. He describes the end as a cease of light in the lines,
once there were sunlit days when you followed after where ever a girl would go... Those were
the bright days gone; now she s no longer yielding, (Gregory, L. 3 8). After Catullus reminisces
over his love for Lesbia, he again rebukes himself for being emasculate by weeping over a
woman. Furthermore, Catullus slanders Lesbia and sneeringly rhetorically asks her what man
will compliment her, claim her, and kiss her, if it is not him anymore. Catullus ends the poem
reassuring himself to be firm as rock as, (Gregory, L. 17). Similar to Carmen 8, the descendant
work, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone is a reflection of a breakup. The song starts with a
quick summary of the breakup, which was the girl not thinking Post Malone was sufficient for her,
thus she left him suddenly and heartbroken. Post Malone goes on to reiterate the feeling of his
heart breaking, and also stating that he had never loved with greater immensity in the lines, never
caught a feelin this hard, harder than the liquor I pour, (Malone, L. 17 18). Moreover, Post Malone
insults the girl, after he states he cannot move on from her even after everyone else but him had
seen the end coming. Towards the end of the

Setting Of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas
The boy in the striped pyjamas is a 2006 Holocaust novel, written by Irish novelist John Boyne.
The novel has sold more than five million copies around the world. In both 2007 and 2008, it
was the best selling book of the year in Spain, and it has also reached number one on The New
York Times bestseller list, as well as in the UK, Ireland and Australia. The book was adapted in
2008 as a film of the same name. The story happens in the Nazi Germany. The setting is very
important because that s what makes the story develop according to the time and place. The
characters are: Bruno, a German boy at the age of 9, the son of a Nazi general and Schmuel, a
young Jewish boy with the same age as Bruno. These two characters are extremely important...

Neighbours By Tim Winton Analysis
An individual s growth is induced by their experiences of and response to discovery. The extent of
their discovery is determined by their will to embrace the process and the connections made.
Discoveries can provoke unexpected emotive responses, as did the journey undertaken by the
participants in Ivan O Mahoney s documentary Go Back To Where You Came From. Else, they
may result in the desire to re evaluate perceptions of the world, made evident in Tim Winton s short
story, Neighbours. Both texts explore the experience of self discovery through which the
development of profound new understandings and perceptions allowing the individuals to form
deeper relationships with themselves and the world around them. These ideas are made evident...

Thus, proving that When forced out of their comfort zone, an individual s will to learn can result
in a change of perceptions and attitudes over time. Winton s short story begins as a young couple
move into a street that is full of European migrants . Winton applies a simile to express how this
made the newly weds feel like sojourners in a foreign land . The young couple had been were not
used to the behaviour of their new neighbours and the limited space between their houses as they
had previously lived in the expansive outer suburbs with neighbours that were seldom seen and
never heard . The repetition of the seasons; autumn merged into winter and by late summer
symbolises the length of time the couple take to become familiar with their new neighbours and
accept and embrace their cultural differences. When the neighbours found out the young woman
was pregnant, they showered her with compliments and presents making her feel flattered,
claustrophobic, grateful, peeved . Through this oxymoron, the hormonal impact of the pregnancy is
illuminated and her previous, solely negative attitudes have altered towards her new neighbours as
these acts of kindness have overwhelmed her and she sees they re just trying to help. Therefore,
Discoveries can be sudden and

Disadvantages Of Scientific Management
Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who
affects the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of
scientific management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and
workers are able to execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive
way in a mass production environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna,
2012, p.7). According to Taylor, scientific managementshould include the selection of the best
qualified people to work in a company, the incentives to work harder and as a result more efficient
by awarding them with higher salaries as well as the authority given to the managers to control...

One drawback is that distinction of planning and doing has a negative impact especially on
companies with numerous and specialized human resources. In this case, neither people have the
ability to be creative and constructive nor have the opportunity to take an initiative (Ghuman and
Aswathappa, 2010, p.135). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an
environment in which workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence
the production of the firm (Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized
by the workers themselves due to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company
s productivity lead to a decrease in demand for employees and made them insecure because there
was a strong possibility to lose their jobs (Singla, 2009 2010,

Gwendolyn Brooks s The Mother
Gwendolyn Brooks is a famous, African American poetess who is famous for making a social
commentary upon the urban society in which she lives. Clearly seen in three of her more popular
poems, the mother , a song in the front yard , and What shall I give my children? Who are poor? ,
Brooks uses the struggles of impoverished motherhood to comment on the stymied lives of adult
black women. This is obviously evident in her use of the tone of hopelessness, which transcends all
three poems in differing forms that stem from regret in the mother, worry and overprotectiveness in
a song in the front yard and frustration of lacking the necessities for children in What shall I give
my children? Who are poor In her works, Brooks is known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The tone of hopelessness in this poem is very obviously the result of regret, or the feelings of
what motherhood may have been. For a majority of the poem the mother focuses on what their
lives would have been having never giggled or planned or cried (4) or how they will never wind
up the sucking thumb (4). Although these are only a few examples it is very evident how the
mother, although denied the joy of motherhood, longs for the child she almost had, saying, believe
me, I knew you, though faintly, and I loved, I loved you/ All (5). In an attempt to take a more
positive outlook on the mother tries to justify herself saying how much better the child s life
would be, that as a mother she would never have the chance to neglect or beat/ Them... (4). The
story behind the mother is just one example of hopelessness that Brooks prominently saw
throughout her community, obviously this feeling of regret and lament was prevalent throughout
many women who, although chose to have abortions, were not done out of not wanting the child,
but by force in order to keep a job, house, or some other commitment in which carrying and
properly raising a child would be near impossible. Another very powerful version of the overall
tone of hopelessness in Brooks plays is the feeling of hopelessness that stems from a mother s worry

One of the most well known victims is Phoebe Prince. Here is her anecdote. Phoebe Prince was
born on November 24, 1994. She lived in County Clare and then moved to Boston in 2009. She
was a very pretty girl and she did not fight back if someone did anything to her. She attended
school at South Hadley High School. She had made some new friends and started dating at her
new school. After she broke up with some of these guys is when she started getting bullied. She
was bullied by her other kids because that were jealous of her. She got called many names, got
chased by kids, and got cornered in the bathroom, pushed into lockers and got her books thrown
on the ground. She got hit by paper balls that had her face and name scribbled out of the paper.
One day in gym class, one of the mean girls were caught talkign bad about Phoebe and the gym
teacher sent her to the assistant principal s office. The police were called and they had to see the
school counselor. One this same day, Phoebe was walking home from school and the mean girls
drove by her and they threw a pop can at her. Phoebe had enough of the bullying. When she got
home from school that day, she hung herself. The bullying did not end there. On her Facebook

Silence Of The Lambs Gender

The Silence of the Lambs is a tale of the young, female, FBI agent Clarice Starling who seeks the

Hale and his older brother, Enoch were sent to Yale when Nathan was 14 and Enoch was 16. Hale was caught spying by the british on September 21st, 1776 and was killed by the british on September 22nd, 1776 in New York, New York. After his death there were rumors that his loyalist cousin Samuel Hale ratted out Nathan and told the british about his spying. There are three reasons to why Hale was one of the most influential heroes of the revolution. Strunk and White’s Elements of Style Essay Strunk and White s Elements of Style A typical science fiction fan can be more familiar about Star Trek and it s characters than some of their own family members. For those that are not all that familiar with this Sci Fi show, Star Trek remains as a very well known icon in television history. The crewof the Starship Enterprise traveled to mysterious planets, through mysterious galaxies. I wonder if this journey couldn t be compared to the journey of style for the writer. For example, in space, gravity is suspended and things tend to be far more weightless, and floating about. If you were aiming for an object to land at a certain destination, it would most likely never make it there without some type of guidance system to manipulate and use the laws of gravity. On earth, the law of gravity pulls objects down from great heights to great depths in a matter of minutes or seconds. Depending on the purpose and where you are, it takes an awareness of the laws like gravity to use that law correctly and fulfill your purpose in space or on earth. Likewise, style is a law of writing as gravity is a law. Like the law of gravity, we have to be aware of the laws of style. Gravity exists whether we like it or not. Style also exists whether we want it to or not. If you ignore the laws of gravity, you will either crash to your death, or be left floating in space. With style, a writer will either carry the reader to the intended destination, or leave the reader floating like a man lost in space, without any understanding on what your point was. I have established a concept of style as a law of writing. This doesn t take away the fact that it is a complex law. The very word style eludes people like the mysteries of deep space. There are several similarities between the novel and the movie, and there are many trends in the movies and novels societies that are portrayed in our society as well. The Matrix and Lathe of Heaven provide example of trends in modern society throughout their plot. First, both the movie and the novel both portray characters that have a God Complex. My cousins and I were sitting on the back porch of my grandmother s house, on a hot summer afternoon in August. The person requires community to manifest dignity, and seeks acknowledgement for who we are, and what we are, as humans, and it allows for preferences of each being as it evolves. Because people have inherent good in their essence, and, according to the encyclicals, are created in God s image, the good is capable of transcending anything a political system has created. • 8. The Reasons behind Homosexual Discrimination One of the greatest poets of the twentieth century, Dr Seuss, once said, Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don t matter and those who matter don t mind . Essentially, this advice is applicable to any given individual, yet it seems that it is most suitable for homosexuals, and therefore why it lies within the heart of gay rights. It is inevitable, that as a minority group, homosexuals will find that they will encounter more people who mind than heterosexuals. This particular discrimination has been occurring for decades all across the globe; however it became prominent in the United States in the 1950s. In 1953, under President Eisenhower, it was decided that homosexualitywas a sufficient enough reason in itself to fire people from federal jobs. This executive order stood from 1953 until 1993, providing support to the idea that discrimination in employment ranked as the worst type of persecution gay people faced at the time, second only to physical assault. Throughout the 1950s and well into the 1960s, both lesbian and male drag queens suffered from frequent rapes and sexual assaults committed by police officers. Further, those same police officers were certainly no help when gays were being abused and raped by other hateful individuals. It was not until June 28, 1969 that a group of gay customers at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village, finally took a stand against the police harassment and created a riot. If you don t have enough cash reserves in place to meet this requirement, this might not be the best option. It isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. I think this is the most obvious internal contrast in the first poem and one that Tennyson has deliberately emphasised to great effect. In history we had not so great men and we had more than great men, the way they thought, their actions, and their war tactics shaped the modern day leaders. The peace maker, and the king among kings share a lot of things in history like war and peace, home life, and love lives. In this essay I will be talking about Julius Caesar and Yitzhak Rabin lives in history and comparing these two great leaders in history. It is hard to say when Julius Caesar was born, but it is estimated that he was born July 12 or 13, 100 BC. His family are far from rich, He is the son of Gaius Caesar and Aurelia Caesar, however his father died when he was 16 so he stayed very close to his mother. Caesar married a nobleman s daughter name Cornelia, they both had a daughter, Julia Caesaris, but sadly Cornelia died in 69 BC. Two years later he marries the granddaughter of the dictator Sulla, Pompeia, they were married for five years before they were divorce. He married for the final time to a young lady, Calpurnia, whom will stay with him till the end, even though he had numerous mistresses including Cleopatra VII, whom she had a baster son name Caesarion. Raging with anger, the dictator Sulla demanded that Caesar either divorced or loss all his land, he instead joined the military. Before Sulla died, Caesar and a couple of his closest friends convince him to let Caesar back into Rome. Caesar rose to power, others got jealous and even one of the leaders were not fully over his enemy, however Caesar, Marcus Licinius Crassus, and Pompey became known as the First Triumvirate. Once again Caesar shows his abilities as someone who can negotiate and unit people together. Soon after however Pompey grew more and more jealous of his partner, while Crassus never got over his disdain for Pompey. All three patch things up for a little while in 56 BC in Luca, Caesar already ruled a territorial and extended for another five years, gave Crassus a five year term in Syria and gave Spain to Pompey for Five years as well. After Katrina made landfall August 29th, several sections of the levee system collapsed including levees protecting the Ninth Ward (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). The manmade MRGO channel caused the problems it was predicted; the channel increased the power and the size of the waves that destroyed many levees (Heerden, Kemp, Bea, Shaffer, Day, Morris, Fitzgerald, and Milanes, 2009, p306). By early September, people were forcibly evacuated and the storm displaced more than 1.5 million people (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p10). According to Lalwani, et al. (2007, p10), Katrina was the most destructive and costliest natural disaster in the history of the United States, with an estimated $75 billion worth of damage. Months after the hurricane, 3,200 people were unaccounted for and many of the low lying areas, most of which were poor and minority neighborhoods, were still under water. People were stranded in their homes or at evacuation centers without food or water. Those in charge did not supply those in need with aid in a timely manner that is expected. The BP Oil well was not capped until 87 days later, by which 3.19 million barrels of oil had already spilled into the the Gulf of Mexico. The BP Oil spill did not only impact humans but sea animals too, including shrimp, lobsters, dolphins, turtles, and more. To clean up the spill, more chemicals were dumped into the ocean to reduce the size of the oil droplets causing the chemicals to also enter the food chain of these sea creatures as well. Over one thousand miles of the Gulf of Mexico shoreline was affected by the British Petroleumoil spill. But while the BP oil spill caused many damages to the Gulf of Mexico, it also brought some benefits, including jobs for immigrants and the national economic financial crisis started to withdraw. In Steve Johnson s essay Myth of the Ant Queen, Johnson describes a phenomena known as emergent behavior, large patterns of uncoordinated local actions which is prevalent in systems with nonhierarchial roles (199). The concept of emergent behavior is a useful, however inaccurate, means of categorizing a systems structure; a self organizing system must have some origin or initial degree of coordination or organization in order to properly function. You study suicide rates for a variety of other causes across the globe, but it s everywhere. El Paso County has one of the highest rates of youthsuicide so yeah I mean I would feel like I was actually providing true public and community service by just doing as much as I possibly could to support families in order to prevent that and to just bring some awareness to that. Half of it is just awareness and the ability to have the conversation around it Andrew: I think that that s huge Nicole and I think that s something that should really be talked about and needs to be talked about. I also think as we re looking over not just messaging, but also fundraising networks, we ve certainly seen an increase in youth homelessness in Manitou and neighboring Colorado Springs and I think as you stated there s been an increase youth suicide and just coming from my experience as a gay man I think there s some connections there. There would be a lot of people in the LGBTQ community interested in helping people who are = committed to those sort of issues with first being that LGBTQ youth make up about forty percent of the homeless population and thus are more prone to teen suicide so I mean looking for different demographic and groups whether it be looking at the LGBTQ community or the Latino community or whatnot I think you know it is not just good for outreach and messaging to those communities, but also potentially fundraising bases as well. Nicole: Absolutely. I m so glad you brought that up because Urban Peak is an organization we have down here. • 29. Discourse Analysis In Carl Sanburg s Grass When analyzing a poem, it is important to understand the language that is being used. When applying discourse theory to a poem, it is important to analyze the language beyond the sentence itself. Discourse analysis studies the natural use of language, rather than the invented examples. The main objective of discourse analysis is to create a better understanding of how language is used through textual features and what effects it has on that investment. Texts often require these features that enables the reader to understand the motivation of that author. In his poem, Grass, Carl Sanburg utilizes verbs, proper nouns, and nouns to efficiently erase the signs of the past. In the poem, Grass, the author uses many linguistic features throughout the poem, verbs being one of them. Verbs are defined as words that are used to describe an action or a state, forming the main objective of the sentence. Sanburg uses verbs consistently throughout his poem to describe the actions in the poem. The first sentence of the poem states, Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo (Sanburg). He uses the wordpile, which can be inferred as a nounor a verb, which in this sentence is used as a verb. The verb pile can infer two different meanings, one defined as placing things one on top of another whereas the second meaning defines the entry of a large group in a disorganized manner. The absorption laws and H tree logic combination techniques are used to reduce the circuit complexity of MRF noise tolerant latch. The cross coupled latching mechanism is used at the output of the MRF latch inorder to preserve the noise tolerant capability of MRF latch. The proposed latch is faster than the latches presented in the literature and provides low power and high noise immunity. Hence we can achieve good trade off in terms of performance, robustness and cost. The latches are evaluated in 180nm CMOS technology. The results obtained show that the proposed latch consumes low power and highly noise tolerant. Finally the proposed latch is applied in transmission gate based full adder circuit. In 180nm technology the proposed adder can operate reliably with superior noise tolerance and low power compared to conventional latch based full adder circuit. • 35. Summary OfThe Poison Tree, And A Poison Tree By William Blake During the Romantic Period, there was an overabundance of body hating within the mentality of the orthodox Christian society. William Blake had apathy for organized religion because of how restrictive it was. Orthodox Christianity impacts social and sexual issues, prevalent in sonnets My Pretty Rose Tree, The Sick Rose, The Garden of Love, Ah! Sun flower and A Poison Tree. All these sonnets are from the experience section of Blake s Songs of Innocence and Experience. Each share common features of faltering innocence, experience, and deception. By comparing these sonnets, it is apparent nature is a metaphor for a religionwhich is at the pinnacle of social and sexual issues. Blake s quote from The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, as the caterpillar chooses the fairest leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest lays his curse on the fairest joys (l.16 17) links to the idea that nature indicates growth as a general idea from innocence to experience. In A Poison Tree, nature becomes a symbol of vehement and deep indignation; even further, nature provokes death when emotions are unreleased and suppressed. The Poison Tree indicates nature is a symbol for destructive anger. A metaphor emerges with the tree growing as it represents his wrath (l.2). The tree represents his growing, suppressed anger which becomes so prevalent it produces a poisonous apple. In the morning glad I see, my foe outstretched beneath the tree (l. 15 16) implements a dark side to humanity and the potential for innocence to falter. The danger of vehement is reflected in the diction around the poisonous apple. Blake addresses the issue of suppressed emotions, which grow inside the head until it eventually becomes destructive to the self and others. Nature is an effective way to express emotions and give it human qualities because it relates closely to the cycle of life humans endure. Furthermore, the idea that nature is a metaphor for a bigger picture, is denoted in The Garden of Love, Ah! Sun flower, My Pretty Rose Tree and The Sick Rose. These metaphors implement how important it is in the Romantic Period, to draw connections between humans and nature. While Canadais an egalitarian society, a close examination would suggest that the blunt historical and social truths of racism that are often smugly denied exist very much in Canadian society and have seeped into the Canadian criminal justicesystem. The racialization of crime, discriminatory policing, minority overrepresentation in prison populations and a blatant denial of justice are aspects of the system that taint much of its past and create a worried present. Postmodern theatre raises theory to the rank of a playful activity (Pavis) meaning plays have the ability to explore. At the same time of Postmodern s entrance into the theatre world, the Sexual Revolution was beginning to turn heads in American politics. LGBT+ movements were starting to make advancements, and alternative sexualities were beginning to expose themselves in a variety of medians, such as in the spread of pornography and sex icons. As a response to the sexual revolution s call to action for recognition and acceptance, postmodern playwrights began incorporating these aspects into their work. Magnificent pieces such as Angels In America by Tony Kushner are now addressing the issue of gay oppression, as well as recognizing it as an ordinary sexuality rather than a taboo. It provided the audience with theatre s first view inside the closet of gay life (Gainor). • 41. Literature V And Catullus Literature from different time periods and different parts of the world has served as a mode of influencing people and sparking reform. However, sometimes pieces of literature have unknowingly influenced other modern day aspects. These similar connections may be found in other present day literary works, or films, songs, events, and just about anything. For instance, the ancient poem, Carmen 8 written by Roman poet, Catullus greatly influenced the modern day song, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone through similar uses of egocentric tone, masculine stereotypes, battling internal conflicts, the theme of rejection, and a sense of a deranged mind. To being with, the ancestor work, Carmen 8 written by Catullus in a few words is a pep talk to himself, after an illicitly amorous affair between Catullus and a woman by the pseudo name of Lesbia suddenly ends. The poem opens with Catullus chiding himself for being too gullible and not noticing the obvious end to the affair. He describes the end as a cease of light in the lines, once there were sunlit days when you followed after where ever a girl would go... Those were the bright days gone; now she s no longer yielding, (Gregory, L. 3 8). After Catullus reminisces over his love for Lesbia, he again rebukes himself for being emasculate by weeping over a woman. Furthermore, Catullus slanders Lesbia and sneeringly rhetorically asks her what man will compliment her, claim her, and kiss her, if it is not him anymore. Catullus ends the poem reassuring himself to be firm as rock as, (Gregory, L. 17). Similar to Carmen 8, the descendant work, I Fall Apart performed by Post Malone is a reflection of a breakup. The song starts with a quick summary of the breakup, which was the girl not thinking Post Malone was sufficient for her, thus she left him suddenly and heartbroken. Post Malone goes on to reiterate the feeling of his heart breaking, and also stating that he had never loved with greater immensity in the lines, never caught a feelin this hard, harder than the liquor I pour, (Malone, L. 17 18). Moreover, Post Malone insults the girl, after he states he cannot move on from her even after everyone else but him had seen the end coming. Towards the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Neighbours By Tim Winton Analysis An individual s growth is induced by their experiences of and response to discovery. The extent of their discovery is determined by their will to embrace the process and the connections made. Discoveries can provoke unexpected emotive responses, as did the journey undertaken by the participants in Ivan O Mahoney s documentary Go Back To Where You Came From. Else, they may result in the desire to re evaluate perceptions of the world, made evident in Tim Winton s short story, Neighbours. Both texts explore the experience of self discovery through which the development of profound new understandings and perceptions allowing the individuals to form deeper relationships with themselves and the world around them. Thus, proving that When forced out of their comfort zone, an individual s will to learn can result in a change of perceptions and attitudes over time. Winton s short story begins as a young couple move into a street that is full of European migrants . Winton applies a simile to express how this made the newly weds feel like sojourners in a foreign land . The young couple had been were not used to the behaviour of their new neighbours and the limited space between their houses as they had previously lived in the expansive outer suburbs with neighbours that were seldom seen and never heard . The repetition of the seasons; autumn merged into winter and by late summer symbolises the length of time the couple take to become familiar with their new neighbours and accept and embrace their cultural differences. When the neighbours found out the young woman was pregnant, they showered her with compliments and presents making her feel flattered, claustrophobic, grateful, peeved . Through this oxymoron, the hormonal impact of the pregnancy is illuminated and her previous, solely negative attitudes have altered towards her new neighbours as these acts of kindness have overwhelmed her and she sees they re just trying to help. Therefore, Discoveries can be sudden and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Disadvantages Of Scientific Management Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who affects the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of scientific management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and workers are able to execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive way in a mass production environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna, 2012, p.7). According to Taylor, scientific managementshould include the selection of the best qualified people to work in a company, the incentives to work harder and as a result more efficient by awarding them with higher salaries as well as the authority given to the managers to control... In this case, neither people have the ability to be creative and constructive nor have the opportunity to take an initiative (Ghuman and Aswathappa, 2010, p.135). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an environment in which workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence the production of the firm (Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized by the workers themselves due to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company s productivity lead to a decrease in demand for employees and made them insecure because there was a strong possibility to lose their jobs (Singla, 2009 2010, ... • 45. Gwendolyn Brooks s The Mother Gwendolyn Brooks is a famous, African American poetess who is famous for making a social commentary upon the urban society in which she lives. Clearly seen in three of her more popular poems, the mother , a song in the front yard , and What shall I give my children? Who are poor? , Brooks uses the struggles of impoverished motherhood to comment on the stymied lives of adult black women. This is obviously evident in her use of the tone of hopelessness, which transcends all three poems in differing forms that stem from regret in the mother, worry and overprotectiveness in a song in the front yard and frustration of lacking the necessities for children in What shall I give my children? Who are poor In her works, Brooks is known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tone of hopelessness in this poem is very obviously the result of regret, or the feelings of what motherhood may have been. For a majority of the poem the mother focuses on what their lives would have been having never giggled or planned or cried (4) or how they will never wind up the sucking thumb (4). Although these are only a few examples it is very evident how the mother, although denied the joy of motherhood, longs for the child she almost had, saying, believe me, I knew you, though faintly, and I loved, I loved you/ All (5). In an attempt to take a more positive outlook on the mother tries to justify herself saying how much better the child s life would be, that as a mother she would never have the chance to neglect or beat/ Them... (4). The story behind the mother is just one example of hopelessness that Brooks prominently saw throughout her community, obviously this feeling of regret and lament was prevalent throughout many women who, although chose to have abortions, were not done out of not wanting the child, but by force in order to keep a job, house, or some other commitment in which carrying and properly raising a child would be near impossible. Another very powerful version of the overall tone of hopelessness in Brooks plays is the feeling of hopelessness that stems from a mother s worry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
