Alexander The Great Persuasive Essay
These are examples of how Alexander strived to complete his objectives by spilling as little blood as
possible. However, not all cities were willing to surrender to Alexander. Some, such as Tyre and Gaza,
chose to fight to the last. Alexander knew that he had to take these cities so he chose to turn their
refusal to surrender and the time that they forestalled his armies into some benefit. Both the cities of
Tyre and Gaza were massacred brutally after refusing Alexander s terms of surrender. While these
sieges costed him both time and men, Alexander used these massacres as a weapon of terror against
his enemy. Through his actions he was able to show that a speedy surrender to his forces was the
preferable option to resistance, and likely reduced the time and casualties that would have been
sustained by a long series of continuous sieges. However, Alexander was also extremely fortunate to
follow up on his success in battle with great rewards. After the battle of Issus, Alexander was able to
seize the Persian treasury which was being stored in Damascus. The seizing of your enemy s material
wealth is of utmost importance in conducting warfare and perfectly reflected Alexander s strategic
objectives. It prevented Darius from quickly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His Coup D œil in battle gained him great victories on the Granicus and at Issus. He was then able to

ensure that he would be able to operate his sieges against the Persian cities that were hesitant to
surrender to him. Simply put, Alexander, one of history s greatest military geniuses, utilized all the
aspects of his Kingdom to wage a highly effective war against the Persian King Darius that eventually
resulted in the creation of one of the largest empire s in

Compare And Contrast Old Major And Joseph In Animal Farm
Animal Farm Essay
A swift crinkle echoes throughout the room. To gain knowledge, to create in depth thinking, to relax,
the individual reads the Bible. Including sixty six books, written over a period of 1,500 years, selling
over 1,000,000,000 copies, the Bible became the best selling book, in the world. The popular book
influences many works of literature. George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, contains parallels, to
thirteen chapters, of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. Genesis, chapters thirty seven through fifty,
tells the story of Joseph. The two characters, Old Major and Joseph, posses multiple similarities. Both
Old Major and Joseph use their dreams, as a foreshadowing, of the future. In the book of Genesis,
Joseph is made famous for describing his own dreams, along with the dreams of others. The Egyptian
Pharaoh states, I had a dream...I have heard it said of you...when you hear a dream you can interpret it
(Genesis 41:15). The Pharaoh s sleeping mind allows Joseph to work his magic, his God given gift of
interpretation. Joseph is well respected. Joseph is insightful. Joseph is wise. Old Major is well
respected. Old Major is insightful. Old Major is wise. All the animals are eagerly awaiting to hear his
dream. Old Major brought forth a propering concept of the future, which later became reality. There,

The History of the Amish Essay
The History of the Amish
The Amish, who are also called The Plain People or Old Order Amish, originated in Switzerland in
approximately 1525. They originated from a movement called the Anabaptist movement. Jacom
Amman was the leader. This happened during the reformation in the16th Century Europe. They
believed in holding on to traditions and keeping themselves separated from the world. He was stricter
about this than other Anabaptists of that time. The Anabaptists were against the union of church and
state and also against infant baptism. They felt that each individual should make this choice for
himself when he or she is old enough. They felt the age for baptism was about 18 years. This
disagreed with the laws of the time. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, on occasion they will use tractors with steel wheels to pull large equipment on the highway.
And, it is rare to see tractors being used in the fields, except in climates that are too hot for horses.
Very few of the Old Order use indoor plumbing and running water.
The New Order maintains many of the Old Order practices. However, they are considered the most
progressive of the Amish groups. Some of these New Order Groups use telephones, regular air filled
tires for their tractors, and even electricity in their homes.
Some extreme cases are the conservative Swartzentrubers, and the Nebraska Amish of Central
Pennsylvania who do not use indoor plumbing, or motorized machinery of any kind. They also wear
even more conservative clothing. The Nebraska Amish, for example, do not wear suspenders or
bonnets, and will not even allow screens on their doors and windows. Over 90% of the current Amish
population, are from the original emigrant ancestors. There are less than 10% converts included in the
total membership.
Today there are between 100,000 and 150,000 Amish in North America. The largest group resides in
Holmes County, Ohio. Other areas of concentration for the Amish are in Pennsylvania, northern
Indiana and Iowa. Fewer still are to be found in the eastern and mid western states and Ontario,
Canada. All together, the Amish are said to have communities in 24 states. When most people think of

Unchained Memories
The Federal Writers Project is a group of writers who went out to record the experiences and thoughts
of people during the 1930s. Part of this project, the people interviewed are former slaves from 17
different states. Slave Memory is a documentary, which includes actors and speakers reading from
slave narratives that were conducted in the past. The voices come to life inside the narratives in the
documentary. I will be analyzing two different experiences of slaves. The first slave is Cato Carter he
had a very comfortable experience and slave Jennie Proctor had a crucial experience.

Taken from their families to live their life as a slave. Carter s experience made a big impact on a
bigger part of history. He thought it was wonderful living as a slave because he had the same blood.
Carter would not join his people for the reason that his definition of slavery was much different from
others. The other slaves who were sexually and violently abused such as Jeannie Procter would move
forward with the abolitionist movement. On the other hand, the slaves who were actually happy with
their other family inclined the movement. It is important because the experiences helped raise
awareness about the evil of slavery and the need for the ending of slavery. These interviews were used
as examples of Africans are as equal as Americans and europeans, given the freedom to do so. Both of
the different experiences were rooted from the hierarchy that was unconsciously created by the slave
owners. The light skinned slaves would be at the top, moving towards the middle would be the african
american children which is also set as the hierarchy where the lighter skin children will be a tad bit
higher than the dark skinned children. At the bottom, the dark skinned African americans would work
in the field. It is important because the individuals at the top were less likely to support the abolition
of slavery than those at the bottom who approve. This not only hindered for the abolitionist movement
to possibly succeed but it would put it as a standstill. For a while, no one would take the movement
seriously because using African americans as livestock was useful to the white folk. Although some

Evaluating The Quality Improvement Initiative And...
The Evaluation Plan Many different conceptual models exist for evaluating a process. An evaluation is
a necessary step to determine how well a process is working and if the targets are being met. The
measurements in a quality improvement project are important to assess where the organization stands
with the project, and to determine success of the project (Sadeghi, Barzi, Mikhail, Shabot, 2013).
There are both financial performance metrics and quality performance metrics that are used in
healthcare to determine success. The purpose of this paper is to propose on outline for evaluating the
quality improvement initiative and financial implications, along with giving a description of specific
metrics. A recommendation will be discussed as to how the organization can represent the data related
to the quality improvement issue for ongoing monitoring. Also, there will be an explanation of how
the organization can create an integrated view of performance that links finance and quality.
Methods for Evaluating
To improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of patient care, applying research and
evidence based practice is necessary. In the Institute of Medicine s report, Keeping Patient Safe:
Transforming the Work Environment of Nurses, there is an emphasis on adequate nurse staffing
(Hickey Brosnan, 2012). Therefore, the quality improvement initiative is to focus on closing the gap
between the core staffing and actual staffing in a six week schedule.

Harry S. Truman Is A Part Of The American Presidents Series
Harry S. Truman is a part of the American Presidents Series and is written by Robert Dallek with the
help of Arthur M. Schlesinger and Sean Wilentz. The biography details the life of Harry Truman, the
thirty third president of the United States. Truman was Franklin Delano Roosevelt s Vice President
and took office when Roosevelt died during the last few months of World War II. Truman was faced
with the difficult task of ending the war and caring for his country during the aftermath. Truman went

Dallek used many different sources throughout his biography. He referenced secondary sources from
several biographies and articles about Truman, as well as primary sources such as Truman s
autobiography and memoirs, private records, and accounts from those who worked with Truman.
Dallek used subscripts each time he referenced another work to cite exactly where he got his
information, even down to the page number. This format made all of the information seem reliable,
and allowed the reader to trust everything that they read. The wide variety of types of sources allowed
the reader to see and understand Truman s life from several different perspectives. Dallek describes
each chapter of Truman s life in great detail. In Truman s early years, he live on his parent s farm in
Independence, Missouri. After serving in World War I, he began his political career when he became a
judge of Jackson County, Missouri. He served as a judge for eight years before running for Missouri
senator, an election that he won by a landslide. Because Truman was hardworking, along with the fact
that he was not too liberal and not too conservative, he caught the attention of President Roosevelt and
was chosen as Roosevelt s vice president during the final stages of World War II. Then, barely three
months later, Roosevelt died and Truman became president. Truman suddenly had

British Columbia. Long s (2013) paper focused on populations in the Bering Sea, Alaska; this crab
species are economically important for fisheries. Ocean acidification is increasing surface pH levels,
due to the increased exploitation of nonrenewable resources by humans. The focus of the study was to
determine how ocean acidification would affect embryo development and larval release time, larval
survivorship, and the carryover effects from one life history stage to another. To create acidified
conditions they used CO2, which changed the pH of the seawater to 7.7. The results showed in

Figure 2 demonstrates the measurements from the digital images taken of larvae. This allows us to
measure from the same locations on the larvae, using this we can compare data to Long et al paper.
The first table showed the average water parameters between acidified and control samples, with the
corresponding standard errors. Four of the parameters had the same units (HCO3 , DIC, alkalinity, and
CO32 ), a good visual way to show the difference between them would be to plot these four
parameters on a scatter graph. Table 2 had a lot of data contained in it this made it a little
overwhelming trying to figure out what the data meant. The authors in figure 3 showed a bar chart
describing PC1 for the differences in acidified and control conditions, for both March and February.
Long et al., did not go into detail about PC3, although, another bar chart for PC2 depicting treatment
and months could have improved the paper. For female calcification and survival (figure 4) three bar
graphs were plotted; with embryonic treatment on the x axis using subcategories March, February,
exuvia, and new shell; the y axis were Mg/Ca ratio, %Mg (dry mass), and %Ca (dry mass). They used
mostly bar graphs to visualize data, this is very repetitive and I think a more diverse group of graphs

Preparations Before Relocation: One of the more important aspects of working in Australia as a
foreign worker would be acquiring the appropriate visa so that one may legally reside in Australia.
When considering which visa would be appropriate, Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)

Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) is a visa that will allow an individual to reside in

Similar to the United States dollar, Australia has both banknotes and coins. Considered easier to tell
apart than some other currency due to differences in size and color, Australia money denominations
begin at 5₵ and rise to $100. The $5 note is light pink, the $10 note is blue, the $20 note is orange, the
$50 note is mustard yellow, and finally the $100 note is green. Featured on the banknotes are
important Australian figures such as the first female member of Australian parliament, Edith Cowan,
and the founder of the world s first air ambulance, John Flynn. Conversely, the coinage of Australia
comes in only two colors of silver and gold as well as featuring iconic animals and plants of Australia.
Denominations of coins go from 5₵ to $2. As Australia doesn t have 1₵ coins, prices are rounded at
the register to the nearest 5₵ (Rivera, 2017; Currency, n.d.). As with any major relocation, there is a

Informative Essay On Charcoal Grill
Obviously, cooking with a charcoal grill is not as simple as what you see in the movies you sure don t
just turn it on! But, people still opt for grilling different food items with a charcoal grill.
People who favor charcoal don t mind that it s a little harder to handle and takes longer to cook than
other grilling methods. Outdoor enthusiasts continue to think the distinctive smoky aroma and flavor
you get with using charcoal makes the added effort worthwhile.
An excellent choice for backpackers would be a very light weight stainless steel charcoal grill. They

The Suffering Griselda in The Clerk s Tale Essay
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Clerk s Tale, from The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer describes a perfect wife.
This wife, Griselda, is totally submissive to her husband, and seems to have no regrets or remorse for
anything he makes her do. Griselda s husband, Walter, puts her through many trials in order to test her
dedication and loyalty to him. He takes away both of their children, telling her that he is going to have
them killed. He then tells her that he is divorcing her and taking another bride. After this, he forces her

Griselda consents, and they are married. Griselda later has a daughter and son, both of whom Walter
takes away leaving Griselda with the impression that they will be killed. He does this to make sure
that Griselda is totally loyal to him. Griselda never complains or shows any loss of love for him.
Walter decides that Griselda should still be tested, and tells her that he is divorcing her. He then brings
the children back. Griselda returns home to her father, and Walter pretends to get his new bride ready
to marry, which is really his daughter. Griselda assists with the wedding preparations. Walter then
decides that Griselda is truly loyal to him, and tells her the truth. They then live happily ever after.
It is probably easiest to see the comparison between Griselda and the biblical character of Job. It is
easiest because Chaucer (or the clerk) makes mention of this comparison himself when he says: Men

Digital Mammography
When mammography first took hold in the medical field, analog mammography was the gold standard
for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is now replacing the old analog mammography
units. There are many concepts digital mammography has implemented into their new unit that came
from analog mammography. The most basic concept is, x rays pass through the breast. The breast
tissue attenuates the x ray photons in different degrees, which shows us different structures inside the
breast. Cancer is demonstrated by being whiter than granular tissue, but detecting cancer varies among
analog and digital. This is where digital mammography starts to become different than analog. Digital
mammography didn t sell quick when the first data came out. The first results showed that there wasn
t much difference between analog or digital. From 2001 to 2004, the ACRIN/DMIST conducted a
study that proved digital mammography to be better than analog in ... Show more content on

Digital mammography is 1.5 to 4 times more expensive than analog mammography. Even with the
prior improvements and studies conducted on digital mammography, hospitals are still hesitate to
spend the money. For the digital mammography unit to pay for itself, a facility needs to perform
15,000 to 25,000 mammograms a year; and that is a hard goal to meet for rural hospitals. With the
rural hospitals not being able to afford digital mammography units, most hospitals have to consolidate
or give up mammography. This is the main reason analog is still thriving. Analog mammography still
has some advantages over digital mammography. It is cost effective, radiologists are familiar with
interpreting these images, and high luminance view boxes improve the visualization of dense
grandular tissue. The best advantage analog mammography has is the spatial resolution. With 20 to 22
lp/mm for analog versus the digital 8 to 10 lp/mm, the image is much sharper to visualize

The Current Policy Rate Of The Central Bank Essay
On the other hand, the ZLB is a global phenomenon, The main policy rate of the central bank is
currently at zero (or close to zero) in 22 out of 34 OECD countries displays the worldwide struggle of
central banks since the global financial crisis (Wiederholt, 2015, 1). At the ZLB central banks must
look at unconventional policies, however Japan shows us it remains extremely difficult to stimulate
growth and inflation. In 1999 the BOJ introduce Zero Interest Rate policy (ZIRP) when it lowered in
the interest rate to virtually zero. The BOJ also incorporated future policy statements indicating the
rate would remain lower for longer this is to lower future expected interest rates and thereby boost
spending immediately and cause reflation (Williams, 2014, 6). However, expected inflation will only
increase if the bank credibly commits to its policy and it is merely not transitional. The BOJ stated
ZIRP would remain until until deflationary concerns disappeared which is too vague and does not give
private agents enough information, therefore casting doubt on competence of the BOJ (www.boj.or.jp,
1999). Setting an inflation target would help quantify the BOJ objectives. Krugman (1998) argued for
the BOJ to credibly promise to be irresponsible and not reverse ZIRP once inflation increases plus set
an inflation target higher than desirable. Bernanke (1999) agrees by setting an inflation target of 3 4%
would highlight the movement of BOJ away from a deflationary regime.

The Literary Canon
I feel that familiarity with the works of the literary canon is only one of many ways that people can
improve their reading and writing skills. Reading is easy, understanding what you read is where the
challenge comes in. Some of the canonized books, such as the Bible, Shakespeare stories, Sun Tzu;
The Art of War, can be very difficult to comprehend especially for people of younger ages. The whole
point of reading is to comprehend and put into perspective whatever you read. There are some books,
poetry and other types of reading material that are straight forward with the message that it s intended
to convey. Then there are others that can leave you pretty perplexed as to the meaning behind the
passage. Take, for example the Bible: several

the situation they are placed in. In Lord of Flies the characters are stuck on an island with no adults.
The characters all go through changes as they try to adjust to this new place as well as the different
people. In this book there are even children who are just 5 years old they cannot just depend on any of
the older boys to be there for each of them, they all have their individual responsibilities. Aren t there
any grown ups? No. Merridew say down on a trunk and looked around the circle. Then we ll have to

Analysis Of The Book Honky By Dalton Conley
Author and sociologist, Dalton Conley, is a Caucasian boy who grows up in a predominantly African
American and Latino neighborhood in the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the 1970 s and 80 s.
In his book, Honky, he tells us a unique view through a young boy s eyes uncovering the way in which
individuals are perceived in social reality, and how some groups of people are classified. He also
speaks about how some groups get better opportunities and privileges then others. This book is a very
powerful autobiography, according to his book, written by, not your typical middle class white male.
(prologue, p. xiii) He goes on to say that he is middle class, even though his parents didn t have any
money and that he is a white boy, even though he grew up in an inner city housing project where
mostly everyone was Black or Hispanic. Dalton speaks about his experience as a white boy exploring
his definition of race and class and saying that, race and class are nothing more than a set of stories we
tell ourselves to get through the world, to organize our reality. (prologue, p. xiv) He describes his
childhood as a social science experiment, Find out what being middle class really means by raising a
kid from a so called good family in a so called bad neighborhood. (prologue, p. xiii) In the first few
chapters, Dalton s thought of race was something that he was not aware of in his early years. He writes
about being the age of three and the new sister he chose to kidnap, which

Theme of Death in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily Essay
Theme of Death in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a tragic tale of a Southern aristocrat, Miss Emily Grierson,
who is the subject of a town s obsession. The narrator, a member of the town, tells the story of what
transpires in a decaying old Southern house that is always under the watchful eye of the townspeople.
They witness Miss Emily s life, her father s death, her turn to insanity and the death of both her and
her lover. The theme of death runs throughout this tale, which is understandable considering the events
that take place in the story. Faulkner uses foreshadowing to foretell events that will transpire later in
the story. Because of this foreshadowing, a reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This description of Emily s hair is important, because one of Emily s hairs will be found next to
Homer s body, and it also shows how Emily is decaying like the house and items inside. Early in the
story Emily writes a letter on stationary of an archaic shape and with fading ink . The references here
are to the way she is always described growing older and decaying. Even Emily s house shares her
short squat characteristic and coquettish decay .
The insanity of Miss Emily is also foretold in A Rose for Emily. When the body of Homer is found in
her bed, the reader can understand that Emily killed him, because her mental stability had been
questioned a number of times. The narrator begins these allusions to her mental state when he tells
how the mayor, Colonel Sartoris, bestows a special tax exemption upon Miss Emily. Colonel Sartoris
makes up a story so unbelievable that it is described as so outlandish that only a woman could have
believed it . Later, the townspeople talk about her great aunt, the lady Wyatt, who had gone completely
crazy. They wonder about poor Emily with the insanity in her family. Her mental state comes into
question again when the town removes the body of her father. She is said to have broke down and
finally let them in to take and bury the body. This is an obvious analogy to her having a mental
breakdown. This is followed with the statement that the townspeople did

The Need for Waste-to-energy on Ships
The Need for Waste to energy on Ships
Waste to energy power plants are lowering the amount of waste we have in landfills and turning that
into energy to meet industrial needs. What if there was a way to shrink these power plants and put
them onto cargo and passenger ships? According to the Palm Beach Post, the Environmental
Protection Agency says, a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers can generate 210,000 of gallons of waste
and sewage and 1 million gallons of grey water from showers and drains in a typical week. 1 Most of
the material that lands in these waters is not biodegradable. The majority of ships will dump their
waste into the ocean, while others will store it until they get back to land, only to dump the waste into
landfills.
There are four reasons why having small generators on ships would work:
1) The use of generators would create job opportunities;
2) The generators are environmentally safe;
3) There would be abundant source of waste to use as fuel; and
4) The generators would keep dangerous waste, like plastic, from entering the waters.
The technology to produce energy from waste has already been proven to work. With a small
generator, ships would be recycling the waste into energy that could be used for providing electricity,
transportation, and industrial needs.
Waste to nearby facilities have already proved to be a great investment on land.2 The facilities provide
financial and environment benefits to the communities

have prospered in the Czech Republic for a long period of time and a further growth is still possible in
this segment of the market ;moreover, Domino s pizza has already showed his capacity to handle the
competitors through two main strategies: the innovation in the product and the focus on customer
loyalty implemented by the use of digital ordering platform, through which clients can accumulate
points that can be exchanged for free pizzas. But Domino s doesn t just focus on the order frequency,
that allows the firm to consolidate the relationship with its customers, but also on theirs comfortability

mass commication and how it affects todays youth Essay
From Eminem s hardcore explicit lyrics, to Lil Kim s outrageous outfits to the late Tupac Shakur s

violent messages that parents fear are encouraging youth to become violent. The media has a field day
covering protests against rappers, such as Eminem about their explicit lyrics towards gays, women and
their promotion of violence. The main concern is how rap is influencing today, particularly towards
the youth community, and the answer can be found in the media. There are a lot of articles, books,

The dance known as breaking, which was influenced by earlier dances know as locking and popping
(these dances required a lot of body control, mainly in the arms, legs, and torso) were established in

subculture (George, 133).
The next big wave in the subculture behind rap music itself was DJing. The ability to mix music on a
machine and scratch records was a phenomenon in itself. Rap music in the industry was nothing
without a beat, and in order for the song to be a hit, the beat must carry the lyrics. Many of the beats at
the time were fast pounding bah bum bah rhythms. DJing led to another culture in rap, which was beat
boxing. Beat boxing was when a person made their voice sound like the beat in the song. Rhazzel, is
not only famous for being a DJ, but also for beat boxing. Many times during a concert, he would just

EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES FOR THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF
NANOMATERIALS.
In order to explore novel physical properties and phenomena and realize potential applications of
nanostructures and nanomaterials, the ability to fabricate and process nanomaterials and
nanostructures is the first corner stone in nanotechnology. There exist a number of methods to
synthesize the nanomaterials, which are categorized in two techniques top down and bottom up . Solid
state route, ball milling comes in the category of top down approach, while wet chemical routes like
sol gel, co precipitation, etc. come in the category of bottom up approach. Secondly, characterization
of nanomaterials is necessary to analyze their various properties. Therefore, this chapter describes the
various methods of synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials. Characterization techniques
include XRD, SEM, TEM, EDAX, UV Visible spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, etc.
2.2. Synthesis of Nanomaterials:
Fabrication of nanomaterials with strict control over size, shape, and crystalline structure has become
very important for the applications of nanotechnology in numerous fields including catalysis,
medicine, and electronics. Synthesis methods for nanoparticles are typically grouped into two
categories: top down and bottom up approach. The first involves the division of a massive solid into
smaller and smaller portions, successively reaching to nanometer size. This approach may involve

Granulocytes include neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.
Bands, or stabs, are immature neutrophils.
Nongranulocytes include lymphocytes and monocytes.
The formula for absolute granulocyte count (AGC) is:

Theater was always something that I admired and wanted to get involved with, but I never did. Noises
Off is the second play I ve ever attended in my entire life. Watching this play and analyzing it has

sections I will discuss the general plot of the play. I will describe the characters and who they are. I
will also talk about the set, lighting, dialogue, music, and other aspects of the theater. First, let s
introduce the characters. Noises Off, is a play within a play written by Michael Frayn. The play that
the characters are rehearsing and performing is called Nothing On. There are nine characters, who all
play a significant part in conveying the story. The major roles are Dotty Otley performed by Mary

Breast Augmentation Lab Report
For several years, it has been my dream to pursue a career in the medical field一particularly as a
plastic surgeon. As a junior in high school, I was given the opportunity to witness two cosmetic
surgical procedures: an abdominoplasty and a breast augmentation. Of these two, my favorite surgery
to observe was the breast augmentation. Reflecting on this experience, I have come to understand that
many of the techniques and tools associated with these surgical procedures are closely related to
principles of chemistry. In particular, aspects including the use of povidone iodine solution in surgical
preparation, the materials of different implants, and the use of implant sizers especially reflect some
fundamental concepts of chemistry. As with most surgeries, povidone iodine solution is applied to the
areas of operation, as well as over the gloves of surgeons. This solution is composed of povidone,

Analysis Of David Foster Wallace s Consider The Lobster
In Consider the Lobster, David Foster Wallace asks his readers to consider if eating lobsters or other
animals is ethical. He describes how lobsters show a preference to not be boiled by their efforts to
avoid or escape the pan. He argues that this preference is proof that the lobster suffers or feels pain.
However, he ignores the fact that the same argument can be made about plants. While working in
landscaping, I discovered that grasses produce a chemical in distress right before they are cut from a
lawnmower or attacked by insects. This shows that the grass prefers to not be cut or eaten just as the
lobster did. As humans, we must eat either plants or animals to survive. If both plants and animals feel
pain and show a preference to live, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We all have a moral obligation to attempt to leave the world in a better place for future generations.
While this is an impossible task, by making an attempt we will leave it better off than if we did not try.
Overfishing has endangered cod, salmon, bluefin tuna, halibut, and countless other species. Primates,
lions, elephants, and dolphins are all endangered, but are still a source of food in some countries. If we
don t make changes soon our children and grandchildren may never have the opportunity to see these
animals. It is unethical to endanger the existence of any plant or animal by eating it. There are some
cases where eating an endangered plant or animal is beneficial. In The World s Most Endangered
Food, Rachel Nuwer discusses how mass production farming is causing some breeds of animals and
varieties of plants to go extinct. Farmers are only using a couple of breeds or varieties to maximize
profits. Ninety percent of cattle used in the dairy industry now come from one breed (Nuwer). In the
United States, eighty six percent of apple varieties from historical records are now extinct and several
more are endangered (Nuwer). In these cases, the food is endangered due to lack of demand.
Purchasing and eating these foods may actually help keep them from going extinct. As global
warming continues to change our weather, keeping these plants and animals from going extinct could

The First Type Of A Person Essay
An individual can be one of three types of people when he is trying to remember someone. The first
type is someone who would off the bat recognize the other person as being familiar, but just cannot
recall that person s name in that exact moment. The second type would be someone who recognizes
the person by name, but would not recognize him when he sees him in person. The third type is the
person would be the star individual who could correctly recognize the person and confidently greet the
person by name. The majority of my friends, as well as myself, often lean towards the first type of
person. The feeling that the word, such as the name of a person, is within grasp, but for some reason,
you are incapable of verbalizing the word is known as the tip of the tongue phenomenon. It is also
frequently referred to as its abbreviated name: TOT. More often than not, we are used to hearing about
your parents or someone older who you know experiencing episodes of forgetting where they placed
items, such as their car keys, are. As troublesome as it may be, it is merely a symptom of growing
older.
As we age, our memory will start to deteriorate along with our youthful appearance, causing us to
have a harder time to recall information, such as names. Information lasting more than 30 seconds in
your mind gets moved from your working memory to your long term memory where it is stored for
the rest of your life. Psychologists believe long term memory is unlimited whereas short term or

Mean s Search For Meaning By Viktor Frankl
Mean s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl Linda Felix Positive Psychology Dr. R. Barke November
28, 2016 The book, in autobiographical mode, relates Auschwitz to the life of the author Viktor E.
Frankl in the concentration camps of the former Nazi Germany. It reports the cruelty in which the SS
soldiers used to mistreat the prisoners and in turn explains how the concentration camp life in the
mind of the average prisoner affected. As soon as they reached the concentration camp, which in this
case was Auschwitz, the prisoner was stripped of his personal belongings and identity documents.
They identified the prisoners with a number. Then there was a first selection that for some would have
a fatal destiny, crematoria and gas chambers. The forced labor of the prisoners sometimes had a
reward in the form of a coupon. This coupon could be redeemed for a dozen cigarettes or a dozen
servings of soup. Usually the vouchers were kept for the soup, but thanks to them you could tell when
a prisoner lost the will to live and smoked their cigars to enjoy their last days of existence. The author
divides life into the field into three phases. Phase one, The Shock. The symptom that characterizes this
phase, according to Frankl, is the shock. As soon as they were at Auschwitz, they received a group of
prisoners who spoke in every imaginable and well fed European language. That is why the prisoners
who arrived thought they could share their situation. They adopt the state of

system which is short term memory. Sensory memory applies to hearing too. One information makes
it past our sensory buffers, it moves into our short term memory, a second system for retaining
information in our memories for brief periods of time. Short term memory is the second factory

Intellectual Disabilities
Intellectual disability is becoming more common in today s society. According to the literature, Down
syndrome (DS) is the leading cause, with an incidence rate of 1 in every 700 live births. 5,500
newborns are affected each year in the United States (Abbeduto, Warren, Conners, 2007; Roberts,
Price, Malkin, 2007). The most common etiology of DS is Trisomy 21, which accounts for 98% of
cases. Trisomy 21 is where the individual is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21 (Roberts,
Price, Malkin, 2007, p.26). Another cause of DS is known as Translocation. Translocation occurs
when part of chromosome 21 attaches to another chromosome. The least common cause is Mosaicism,
which is the result of a nondisjunction of chromosome 21 that places an extra copy of the chromosome
in some, but not all, cells (Roberts, Price, Malkin, 2007, p.26). Therefore, DS is associated in multiple
organ systems and a characteristic phenotype that includes physical as well as ... Show more content

Gestures are actions produced with the intent to communicate and are typically expressed using one s
fingers, hands, and arms, facial features, and body motions. There are two primary categories for
gestures: deictic and representational. Iverson, Longobaridi, and Caselli (2009) declared, deictic
gestures indicate referents in the immediate environment, and their meaning is thus context bound.
Deictic gestures are often divided into contact and distal gestures. Contact gestures were defined by
Crais, Watson, Baranek (2009) as gestures that, require contact between a child and object or
caregiver, such as giving a toy or pushing away an adult s hand (p.96). These are considered early
gestures. Distal gestures, in contrast, require no contact with the caregiver or object, such as pointing,
showing, and reaching (Crais, Watson, Baranek, 2009, p.96). These are typically seen at

(d) Kingsford should re evaluate the job sharing arrangement for brand manager. By having both
brand managers only collaborate together on Wednesday might cause inefficient. This arrangement
might not be suitable for Kingsford future development. | Evaluation of possible solution | | Pro | Cons
| A | Immediate result. If no merchandising loss, Kingsford obtain $1.87 billion of profit. With
merchandising loss there is still a $1.72 billion profit. | Price increase might affect relationship with
channels, push customer to purchase other brands or gas grill. | B | Able to increase long and short
term sales, prevent and compete with gas grilling, | Might set up wrong message or inefficient
marketing campaign because Kingsford has not emphasis on advertising for a long time. | C | Able to
fully utilize or increase the production capacity, catch up and gain profit from gas grilling trend and |
High cost and the result will not be immediate. | D | Enable Kingsford to obtain the most efficient
arrangement for brand manager task and prevent wastage or contingencies. | Having only one brand
manager might cause the ideas to be less innovative and the brand manager might have a hard time
coping with the other s work. |
Recommendation and justification: The lack of advertising and promotion has not only negatively
affected Kingsford but also the whole charcoal industry. Thus,

Swift s Political Proposal
Swift s overall purpose in writing such an outrageous text is to satirize the vehicle of a political
proposal while lambasting landlords for their cruelty, greed, and lack of compassion which has caused
and perpetuated Irish poverty. He sarcastically analyzes the situation of poverty by using numbers,
statistics, and brute logic, all while ignoring the most obvious main concern of his proposal the moral
issue of eating children. This emphasizes the tendency of such proposals to turn people into numbers
and analyze from an economic and political perspective as opposed to seeing issues in a more human
light. By writing with these intentions, Swift hopes to bring a change in attitudes from the people of
Ireland to become more compassionate and

  • 3. Alexander The Great Persuasive Essay These are examples of how Alexander strived to complete his objectives by spilling as little blood as possible. However, not all cities were willing to surrender to Alexander. Some, such as Tyre and Gaza, chose to fight to the last. Alexander knew that he had to take these cities so he chose to turn their refusal to surrender and the time that they forestalled his armies into some benefit. Both the cities of Tyre and Gaza were massacred brutally after refusing Alexander s terms of surrender. While these sieges costed him both time and men, Alexander used these massacres as a weapon of terror against his enemy. Through his actions he was able to show that a speedy surrender to his forces was the preferable option to resistance, and likely reduced the time and casualties that would have been sustained by a long series of continuous sieges. However, Alexander was also extremely fortunate to follow up on his success in battle with great rewards. After the battle of Issus, Alexander was able to seize the Persian treasury which was being stored in Damascus. To gain knowledge, to create in depth thinking, to relax, the individual reads the Bible. Including sixty six books, written over a period of 1,500 years, selling over 1,000,000,000 copies, the Bible became the best selling book, in the world. The popular book influences many works of literature. George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, contains parallels, to thirteen chapters, of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. Genesis, chapters thirty seven through fifty, tells the story of Joseph. The two characters, Old Major and Joseph, posses multiple similarities. Both Old Major and Joseph use their dreams, as a foreshadowing, of the future. In the book of Genesis, Joseph is made famous for describing his own dreams, along with the dreams of others. The Egyptian Pharaoh states, I had a dream...I have heard it said of you...when you hear a dream you can interpret it (Genesis 41:15). The Pharaoh s sleeping mind allows Joseph to work his magic, his God given gift of interpretation. Joseph is well respected. Joseph is insightful. Joseph is wise. Old Major is well respected. Old Major is insightful. Old Major is wise. All the animals are eagerly awaiting to hear his dream. Old Major brought forth a propering concept of the future, which later became reality. They believed in holding on to traditions and keeping themselves separated from the world. He was stricter about this than other Anabaptists of that time. Some extreme cases are the conservative Swartzentrubers, and the Nebraska Amish of Central Pennsylvania who do not use indoor plumbing, or motorized machinery of any kind. Carter s experience made a big impact on a bigger part of history. He thought it was wonderful living as a slave because he had the same blood. Carter would not join his people for the reason that his definition of slavery was much different from others. The other slaves who were sexually and violently abused such as Jeannie Procter would move forward with the abolitionist movement. On the other hand, the slaves who were actually happy with their other family inclined the movement. It is important because the experiences helped raise awareness about the evil of slavery and the need for the ending of slavery. These interviews were used as examples of Africans are as equal as Americans and europeans, given the freedom to do so. Both of the different experiences were rooted from the hierarchy that was unconsciously created by the slave owners. The light skinned slaves would be at the top, moving towards the middle would be the african american children which is also set as the hierarchy where the lighter skin children will be a tad bit higher than the dark skinned children. At the bottom, the dark skinned African americans would work in the field. It is important because the individuals at the top were less likely to support the abolition of slavery than those at the bottom who approve. This not only hindered for the abolitionist movement to possibly succeed but it would put it as a standstill. For a while, no one would take the movement seriously because using African americans as livestock was useful to the white folk. • 7. Evaluating The Quality Improvement Initiative And... The Evaluation Plan Many different conceptual models exist for evaluating a process. An evaluation is a necessary step to determine how well a process is working and if the targets are being met. The measurements in a quality improvement project are important to assess where the organization stands with the project, and to determine success of the project (Sadeghi, Barzi, Mikhail, Shabot, 2013). There are both financial performance metrics and quality performance metrics that are used in healthcare to determine success. The purpose of this paper is to propose on outline for evaluating the quality improvement initiative and financial implications, along with giving a description of specific metrics. A recommendation will be discussed as to how the organization can represent the data related to the quality improvement issue for ongoing monitoring. Also, there will be an explanation of how the organization can create an integrated view of performance that links finance and quality. Methods for Evaluating To improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of patient care, applying research and evidence based practice is necessary. In the Institute of Medicine s report, Keeping Patient Safe: Transforming the Work Environment of Nurses, there is an emphasis on adequate nurse staffing (Hickey Brosnan, 2012). Table 2 had a lot of data contained in it this made it a little overwhelming trying to figure out what the data meant. The authors in figure 3 showed a bar chart describing PC1 for the differences in acidified and control conditions, for both March and February. Long et al., did not go into detail about PC3, although, another bar chart for PC2 depicting treatment and months could have improved the paper. For female calcification and survival (figure 4) three bar graphs were plotted; with embryonic treatment on the x axis using subcategories March, February, exuvia, and new shell; the y axis were Mg/Ca ratio, %Mg (dry mass), and %Ca (dry mass). They used mostly bar graphs to visualize data, this is very repetitive and I think a more diverse group of graphs should have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Digital mammography is now replacing the old analog mammography units. There are many concepts digital mammography has implemented into their new unit that came from analog mammography. The most basic concept is, x rays pass through the breast. The breast tissue attenuates the x ray photons in different degrees, which shows us different structures inside the breast. Cancer is demonstrated by being whiter than granular tissue, but detecting cancer varies among analog and digital. This is where digital mammography starts to become different than analog. Digital mammography didn t sell quick when the first data came out. The first results showed that there wasn t much difference between analog or digital. With the rural hospitals not being able to afford digital mammography units, most hospitals have to consolidate or give up mammography. This is the main reason analog is still thriving. Analog mammography still has some advantages over digital mammography. At the ZLB central banks must look at unconventional policies, however Japan shows us it remains extremely difficult to stimulate growth and inflation. In 1999 the BOJ introduce Zero Interest Rate policy (ZIRP) when it lowered in the interest rate to virtually zero. The BOJ also incorporated future policy statements indicating the rate would remain lower for longer this is to lower future expected interest rates and thereby boost spending immediately and cause reflation (Williams, 2014, 6). However, expected inflation will only increase if the bank credibly commits to its policy and it is merely not transitional. The BOJ stated ZIRP would remain until until deflationary concerns disappeared which is too vague and does not give private agents enough information, therefore casting doubt on competence of the BOJ (www.boj.or.jp, 1999). Setting an inflation target would help quantify the BOJ objectives. Krugman (1998) argued for the BOJ to credibly promise to be irresponsible and not reverse ZIRP once inflation increases plus set an inflation target higher than desirable. Bernanke (1999) agrees by setting an inflation target of 3 4% would highlight the movement of BOJ away from a deflationary regime. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Need for Waste-to-energy on Ships The Need for Waste to energy on Ships Waste to energy power plants are lowering the amount of waste we have in landfills and turning that into energy to meet industrial needs. What if there was a way to shrink these power plants and put them onto cargo and passenger ships? According to the Palm Beach Post, the Environmental Protection Agency says, a cruise ship with 3,000 passengers can generate 210,000 of gallons of waste and sewage and 1 million gallons of grey water from showers and drains in a typical week. 1 Most of the material that lands in these waters is not biodegradable. The majority of ships will dump their waste into the ocean, while others will store it until they get back to land, only to dump the waste into landfills. There are four reasons why having small generators on ships would work: 1) The use of generators would create job opportunities; 2) The generators are environmentally safe; 3) There would be abundant source of waste to use as fuel; and 4) The generators would keep dangerous waste, like plastic, from entering the waters. The technology to produce energy from waste has already been proven to work. Diagnosis of infiltrating ductal carcinoma was made following a stereotactic needle biopsy of a 1.5 x 1.5 cm lobulated mass at the 3:00 position in her left breast. The client had a modified radical mastectomy with lymph node dissection. The sentinel lymph node and 11 of 16 lymph nodes were positive for tumor. Estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors were both positive. Further staging work up was negative for distant metastasis. Her final staging was stage IIB. Her last treatment with doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and 5 fluorouracil was approximately 12 days ago. She came to the emergency room with a 2 day history of fever, chills, and shortness of breath. On arrival, she is disoriented and agitated. Vital signs are 86/43, 119, 28, 39.8° C, SaO2 85% on room air. Laboratory data include WBC 1.2 thou/cmm, Hct 24.9%, Hgb 8.7 g/dl, platelets 125 thou/cmm. Differential WBC count shows 37% granulocytes, 60% lymphocytes, 3% monocytes. Chem 14 is within normal limits, with the exception of BUN 28 mg/dl, creatinine 1.6 mg/dl, and lactic acid 2.4 mg/dl. Chest x ray demonstrates diffuse infiltrates in the left lower lung. Granulocytes include neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils. Bands, or stabs, are immature neutrophils. Nongranulocytes include lymphocytes and monocytes. The formula for absolute granulocyte count (AGC) is: AGC = Granulocyte count (%Neutrophils + %Bands)/100 X WBC AGC = 0.37 X 1200 = 444/cmm 10. The client s AGC is 444/cmm. What is the significance of an AGC of 444/cmm? An AGC of less than 500/cmm puts a patient at a severe risk of infection. Some labs still report both neutrophils and bands, so this calculation is necessary. Modern labs report straight granulocyte. 11. What are the probable causes of the abnormal laboratory

  • 31. Analysis Of Noises Off Theater was always something that I admired and wanted to get involved with, but I never did. Noises Off is the second play I ve ever attended in my entire life. Watching this play and analyzing it has made me gain so much respect for the people that work hard to make plays happen. In the following sections I will discuss the general plot of the play. I will describe the characters and who they are. I will also talk about the set, lighting, dialogue, music, and other aspects of the theater. First, let s introduce the characters. Noises Off, is a play within a play written by Michael Frayn. The play that the characters are rehearsing and performing is called Nothing On. There are nine characters, who all play a significant part in conveying the story. The major roles are Dotty Otley performed by Mary Ruth, who also plays Mrs. Clacket the housekeeper in Nothing On; Lloyd Dallas performed by Ricky Martinez, who is the passionate and hot tempered director; Garry Lejuene performed by Brian Vigen, who plays the real estate agent in the play; Brooke Ashton performed by Carolina Graham, who also plays Vicki in the play; Poppy Norton Taylor performed by Olivia Hicks, who is the assistant stage manager; Frederick Fellows performed by Rudolfo Lopez who plays the part of Philip Brent who is on the run from the IRS and the Sheikh; Belinda Blair performed by Crystal Fiallos who plays the role of Flavia Brent; Selsdon Mowbray performed by Mario Flores Jr. who plays the burglar; Tim Allgood ... • 32. Breast Augmentation Lab Report For several years, it has been my dream to pursue a career in the medical field一particularly as a plastic surgeon. As a junior in high school, I was given the opportunity to witness two cosmetic surgical procedures: an abdominoplasty and a breast augmentation. Of these two, my favorite surgery to observe was the breast augmentation. Reflecting on this experience, I have come to understand that many of the techniques and tools associated with these surgical procedures are closely related to principles of chemistry. In particular, aspects including the use of povidone iodine solution in surgical preparation, the materials of different implants, and the use of implant sizers especially reflect some fundamental concepts of chemistry. As with most surgeries, povidone iodine solution is applied to the areas of operation, as well as over the gloves of surgeons. This solution is composed of povidone, hydrogen iodide, and elemental iodine (PubChem). At room temperature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although there are various types of breast implants, they are typically filled with either saline or silicone. Saline breast implants are filled with a sterilized salt water solution, which mimics much of the fluid present within the human body (MENTOR® Saline Breast Implants). Since these two fluids are similar, if an implant were to rupture, the saline solution would be dissolved by the fluid within the body (MENTOR® Saline Breast Implants). This scenario of like dissolving like demonstrates the principle of solubility in chemistry. Silicone breast implants, on the other hand, are filled with silicone gel. This gel is classified as an inert polymer, meaning the materials tends to not react, or does so at a slow moving pace (American Chemistry Council). • 33. Analysis Of David Foster Wallace s Consider The Lobster In Consider the Lobster, David Foster Wallace asks his readers to consider if eating lobsters or other animals is ethical. He describes how lobsters show a preference to not be boiled by their efforts to avoid or escape the pan. He argues that this preference is proof that the lobster suffers or feels pain. However, he ignores the fact that the same argument can be made about plants. While working in landscaping, I discovered that grasses produce a chemical in distress right before they are cut from a lawnmower or attacked by insects. This shows that the grass prefers to not be cut or eaten just as the lobster did. As humans, we must eat either plants or animals to survive. If both plants and animals feel pain and show a preference to live, ... Primates, lions, elephants, and dolphins are all endangered, but are still a source of food in some countries. If we don t make changes soon our children and grandchildren may never have the opportunity to see these animals. It is unethical to endanger the existence of any plant or animal by eating it. There are some cases where eating an endangered plant or animal is beneficial. In The World s Most Endangered Food, Rachel Nuwer discusses how mass production farming is causing some breeds of animals and varieties of plants to go extinct. Farmers are only using a couple of breeds or varieties to maximize profits. Ninety percent of cattle used in the dairy industry now come from one breed (Nuwer). In the United States, eighty six percent of apple varieties from historical records are now extinct and several more are endangered (Nuwer). In these cases, the food is endangered due to lack of demand. Purchasing and eating these foods may actually help keep them from going extinct. • 35. The First Type Of A Person Essay An individual can be one of three types of people when he is trying to remember someone. The first type is someone who would off the bat recognize the other person as being familiar, but just cannot recall that person s name in that exact moment. The second type would be someone who recognizes the person by name, but would not recognize him when he sees him in person. The third type is the person would be the star individual who could correctly recognize the person and confidently greet the person by name. The majority of my friends, as well as myself, often lean towards the first type of person. The feeling that the word, such as the name of a person, is within grasp, but for some reason, you are incapable of verbalizing the word is known as the tip of the tongue phenomenon. It is also frequently referred to as its abbreviated name: TOT. More often than not, we are used to hearing about your parents or someone older who you know experiencing episodes of forgetting where they placed items, such as their car keys, are. As troublesome as it may be, it is merely a symptom of growing older. As we age, our memory will start to deteriorate along with our youthful appearance, causing us to have a harder time to recall information, such as names. Barke November 28, 2016 The book, in autobiographical mode, relates Auschwitz to the life of the author Viktor E. Frankl in the concentration camps of the former Nazi Germany. It reports the cruelty in which the SS soldiers used to mistreat the prisoners and in turn explains how the concentration camp life in the mind of the average prisoner affected. As soon as they reached the concentration camp, which in this case was Auschwitz, the prisoner was stripped of his personal belongings and identity documents. They identified the prisoners with a number. Then there was a first selection that for some would have a fatal destiny, crematoria and gas chambers. The forced labor of the prisoners sometimes had a reward in the form of a coupon. This coupon could be redeemed for a dozen cigarettes or a dozen servings of soup. Usually the vouchers were kept for the soup, but thanks to them you could tell when a prisoner lost the will to live and smoked their cigars to enjoy their last days of existence. The author divides life into the field into three phases. Phase one, The Shock. The symptom that characterizes this phase, according to Frankl, is the shock. As soon as they were at Auschwitz, they received a group of prisoners who spoke in every imaginable and well fed European language. That is why the prisoners who arrived thought they could share their situation. They adopt the state of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the literature, Down syndrome (DS) is the leading cause, with an incidence rate of 1 in every 700 live births. 5,500 newborns are affected each year in the United States (Abbeduto, Warren, Conners, 2007; Roberts, Price, Malkin, 2007). The most common etiology of DS is Trisomy 21, which accounts for 98% of cases. Trisomy 21 is where the individual is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21 (Roberts, Price, Malkin, 2007, p.26). Another cause of DS is known as Translocation. Translocation occurs when part of chromosome 21 attaches to another chromosome. The least common cause is Mosaicism, which is the result of a nondisjunction of chromosome 21 that places an extra copy of the chromosome in some, but not all, cells (Roberts, Price, Malkin, 2007, p.26).
