`` Pied Beauty `` By Gerard Manley Hopkins
Throughout recorded history, humans have accredited the happenings of nature to a higher power;
shown through religious beliefs past and present. The Greeks believed in a myriad of gods and
goddesses, who supposedly governed all aspects of life and nature. They believed in a god or goddess
to represent each part of nature from the sun to the sea; there was even a goddess of rainbows. The
Grecians used their religion to explain the elements of their world for which they had no other
explanation. Christians explain the natural world in a similar fashion. Instead of a god or goddess for
each individual piece of nature, they preach that nature was created and is controlled by their God.
The belief of divine control is a popular topic in literature; specifically poetry. Pied Beauty written by
Gerard Manley Hopkins in 1877, and Design written by Robert Frost in 1922 are just two examples of
many that follow this trend. Gerard Manley Hopkins was a 19th century, English, Victorian poet. He
was brought up in a religious and artistic family, leading to his becoming a poet and Jesuit priest
(Reid). Alternatively, Robert Frost was a 20th century, modern, American poet. Frost lived and taught
in New England; through his poetry he described much of its scenery and landscape (Gerber). Despite
the differences in their lives and writing styles, Frost and Hopkins developed poems of similar image
and theme. Though Hopkins s Pied Beauty and Frost s Design are of similar theme, their

Laos People s Democratic Republic
Laos People s Democratic Republic is a country in the Southeastern portion Asia. It is believed that
Laotians migrated to Laos from South China as early as the 8th century. Lan Xang was the very first
state established in the country during the 14th century. The ruler at the time, King Saya Setthathirat
transferred the capital known as Luang Prabang to the newly formed Vientiane during the 16th century
( Brief History of Laos ). The Lan Xang kingdom was in decree until the early 1700s. From that point
on, the Kingdom was split into 3 separate kingdoms under 3 different yet hostile dynasties. The 17th
Century marked the Golden Age under the rule of King Suliyavongsa. It was during this time that the

Differences And Similarities Between Frankenstein And Grendel
Frankenstein s Monster along with Grendel are both monsters that society ignores their existence and
both of their societies finds them to be a distress. Their societies doesn t enjoy them because they are
not like the rest of society. Both the Monster and Grendel aim to find their place in society along with
their purpose and reasoning to life. Considering their happiness comes at infrequent times, both
eventually accept their role into society by coping with themselves and their inner traits to be loyal
with themselves, continuing to be more intelligent and be on the correct path. Just about every human
being that has every existed has wondered to themselves, What is the meaning to life? Why am I here?

Up until the twenty first century, gays were often the outcast of modern society. As our society gets
more and more secular, as it should, there will be even less outcasts of society. In the Monster and
Grendel s time, they were the outcasts of their society for good and bad reasons. Both of them would
get judged and scare people on first sight. All men hate the wretched (Shelley 128) It s amazing the
negative attention a peasant would get where a king would not. A popular person will dodge
harassment from society where a not so popular person would not. What a peasant would do is not
appropriate for a king to do. The reason I say this is, the only difference between acts of violence and
courageous acts is the matter of who commits them. The incitement to violence depends upon total
trans valuation of the ordinary values. By a single stroke, the most criminal acts may be converted to
heroic and meritorious deeds . (Gardner 117) It s sad to say, but society can oppress the undesirables.
Murder and mayhem are the life and soul of revolution. (Gardner 119) All throughout time, the history
books were written by the ones in control. Who were the ones in control? The ones that murdered until
they themselves got murdered due to a revolution. Society only condemns the unfortunate, but
unfortunates attract each other. We may not part until you have promised to comply with my

The Between Female And Female Adolescents
A. When traveling to the village, I watched the younger villagers participate in recess. I initially
realized the strong distinction between the two gender s interactions. Through the three days in the
village, I came to realize that the female adolescents were not permitted to participate in contact
sports. In comparison, the male adolescents were consistently shown participating in soccer, the
national sport of Haiti. I would constantly watch the interactions between the two genders of the
adolescents and noticed that they were blatantly distant. The females were shown gossiping on the
playgrounds and playing tag, ignoring the total fact of the males playing soccer very aggressively. On
the last two days in the village, Aina and I attempted to join their game of soccer, but they were
hesitant until we supplied an adequate soccer ball for them. Even when they allowed us to join the
game with them, they still were very hesitant to interact with us in relation to passing us the ball. In
addition, we also gave the girls a ball to play with, but they just put it to the side and neglected to use
it. It was an overall interesting experience, because even when we moved from playing with the older
adolescents to the younger group, the same distinction was present and the only children playing with
us were male.
B. When traveling to the village, there were noticeable differences of the native s culture to the typical
American culture. In accordance to my beliefs, the biggest

programming activities like social activities for adults, families with children, and children?
Based on the initial investigation, and after the discarding of error sources, I would recommend to the
board to incorporate more social activities for the adults (Cooper Schindler, 2014, p. 256). This is due
to the seasoned members complaints on the lack thereof. After a poll was taken and the external
validity was verified through scientific measurement, social activities seemed to be one of the biggest
concerns for the tenured members. An index was created to further measure customer satisfaction of

Orestes An Innocent Hero Essay
Orestes: An Innocent Hero
Throughout time there has been a universal question that does not yet yield a universal answer. All
people have a different view on whether or not it is right to avenge the killing of another, through the
death of the killers. In America during this day and age, it is the obligation of the court system to
decide whether or not a murderer should be put to death. Most of the time, the criminal is sentenced to
a prison term, but when a judge decides to issue the death penalty there is usually an uproar among the
people. Does the court now become a murderer along with the convicted felon or is the court an
innocent body. Is it a hero who is looked upon as the hand of justice or just ... Show more content on

As it turns out Apollo actually commanded Orestes to avenge the death of his father. We can see this
clearly when Apollo literally says, amp;#8220; I commanded him to avenge his father . . . ;
(Aeschylus, 239) Orestes amp;#8217; case was also helped when Apollo came forward and became
his witness, and took part of the blame as well.
amp;#8220;I come as a witness. This man, according to custom, this suppliant sought out my house
and hearth. I am the one who purged his bloody hands. His champion too, I share responsibility for his
mother amp;#8217;s execution. Bring on the trial. You know the rules, now turn them into justice. ;
(Aeschylus, 256)
Some may ask the Question, amp;#8220;Who is Apollo to say that this man is innocent, and why does
his opinion matter? ; In this case, Apollo has a huge authority over all of the other gods and for one
reason only. He is a servant of Zeus, and through Orestes, he has carried out

Maslow vs. Mcgregor
Backgrounds
Douglas McGregor was a management professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He
introduced a new motivational theory in his book The Human Side of Enterprise , stating that all
workers were divided into two groups: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X workers were lazy,
irrational and unreliable, and were only motivated by money and threatened by punishment. Theory Y
workers were able to seek and accept responsibilities and fulfil any goals given.
The Human Side of Enterprise, written my McGregor in 1960, was voted the fourth most influential
management book of the 20th century by the Fellows of the Academy of Management. The ideas and
theories shown in the book have remained relevant and are taught in Universities across ... Show more

Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must feel
accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult needs.
The esteem level on Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and respect. After the
other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a prominent role in
motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in their organisation by
achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and abilities. The top need
desired by such employees is self actualisation. Maslow himself said;
What a man can be, he must be
What he meant by this is that people must achieve their full potential as human beings and that
nothing else is worth more that becoming the best you can be. Theory Y employees spend their
working lives striving for self actualisation, which is the ultimate source of motivation. It stimulates
the desire for more once experienced.
Contrasts
Although Maslow and McGregor are thinking alike, as I mentioned earlier, The Human Side of
Enterprise makes no concrete references to Maslow s theories. He doesn t seem to recognise the
condition of lower level needs to be met for people to aspire to those of higher level. McGregor
simply separates workers into different groups

Creating Opportunities For Students Proficiency ...
I understand the need to create opportunities for my students to show their proficiency in directing
their own learning and have done so within my classroom environment. I am aware that as the
Learning Manager this requires me to have a clear understanding of each student s strengths, needs,
and interests. This is needed in order to create a diverse and relevant classroom experience that
revolves around the curriculum. Please see my examples of such opportunities below:
EXAMPLE 1
During diagnostic testing of a particular year 8 class the reading and spelling levels of certain students
were well below average. These results were amplified when it was obvious that the attendance within
the class was sporadic and behaviour unruly. These combined, led to a poor attitude towards
classroom participation and assessment tasks. The action displayed below was created after my EPL 3
placement when it became evident that the classroom needed consistent routine and positive
reinforcement in order to encourage student participation.
The required action manifested in the form of motivating student interest, learning and differentiation
in the classroom. The Year 8 students needed a form of routine within the class and a point of interest
which would be renewed systematically throughout the term. Thus, the rules and expectations chart
was created in tandem with the students, in order for the students to take ownership of their behavior
and attitudes within the classroom.

Art, Art And Art
Art, one of the most important ways for individuals to express their thoughts and feelings about
things. Painting is one of the many artistic forms used to communicate the aforementioned. Paintings
are often displayed at museums or art galleries in order to allow people to admire them and analyze
their meaning. A painting that is displayed at the Albright Knox art gallery in Buffalo, New York is La
Vie Paysanne. French Russian artist, Marc Chagall, painted La Vie Paysanne in the year 1925. In La
Vie Paysanne, the subject matter is the life of the peasants in France. This is portrayed by the many
symbols in the painting, such as the way in which the people are dressed in very simple garments. The
small house represents their humble living style, and the portrayal of the man feeding the horse shows
us the very simple life that peasants lived. In order to achieve a meaningful work of art, artists often
use visual elements as well as principles of design. Visual elements are what make up a work of art.
There are several types of visual elements. Among these are line, shape, form, space, value, color, and
texture. When first examining La Vie Paysanne, we can find many visual elements. One of the visual
elements in the painting is line. For example the contour lines that define the edges in the house
located in the painting. Furthermore, we can see implied line. Implied line is a line that is not
connected and continuous but it can be perceived as such, an example of this

The Egyptian Reserve Heads Essay
Introduction Khufu s reign in the beginning of the Fourth Dynasty marks one of the greatest periods of
change in funerary monumental construction. The careful planning of his complex at Giza extended
from the Great Pyramid itself to the satellite cemeteries that would eventually hold the members of his
family and his administration. It is in this temporal and geographic space that a puzzling find, unique
to the Pyramid Age, appeared. The Egyptian reserve heads, well sculpted depictions of human heads,
have remained an enigma since their first finding. Funerary anomalies, their composition,
characteristic features, and placement have sparked multiple theories about their significance within
the private funerary cult and within Egyptian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This term has since been commonly adopted to refer to the heads as they have been the subjects of
articles, lectures, and one very complete study by Roland Tefnin. While many musings and theories
have been put forth to explain the presence and purpose of the heads, no previous work has attempted
to combine the archaeological contexts with objective descriptions of the heads themselves. Tefnin s
work is impressive in its detail, yet he spends little time discussing the archaeological context beyond
general geographic position. Reisner and Junker, who excavated the majority of the tombs containing
reserve heads, published the heads with their context. Nevertheless, neither included the heads or
contexts excavated by the other. Luckily, the methodologies employed by both Reisner and Junker
were ahead of their time. Thanks to their careful publication, it is possible, at least to some degree, to
discuss the contexts with confidence. With the publications of the other excavators, the situation is not
as auspicious. Similarly, the heads themselves are often described in romanticized terms meant to
capture the character of the person portrayed. Even more recent scholarship frequently generalizes
about the features extant on the heads. This subjective,

Research Paper On Lionel Messi
e famous town of Argentina, Rosario, lives a little boy with big dreams. In a town where some of the
greatest soccer players source from, there has to be something that they have as an advantage.
Whether it s the extreme levels of dedication parents give their children with sports at an early age or
the true passion of the game, there s something that sets these kids apart. One player that some would
argue has the most heart and most dedication now controls the modern soccer game, some would even
say he is the best. His name is Lionel Messi, and he grew up here, playing soccer every day in these

Advantages to a Rigorous Approach to Environmental Virtue...
A good ethical theory requires both logical rigor and intuitive appeal to provide an effective tool for
understanding what is right and what is wrong. In the field of environmental ethics, there has been
significant scholarship in developing a duty ethics based on the inherent value of nature, most notably
by Paul Taylor. Taylor indeed provides a logically clear argument for protecting the environment by
building on the principles he calls the biocentric outlook (Taylor, 99). While this scholarship has been
helpful in offering an explanation for what those who value the environment intuitively recognize,
some have noticed that it does not provide positive answers to how we should live (Cafaro, 31). Virtue
ethicists, on the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additional insight is gained by examining the formal conditions presented by Taylor (Taylor, 27.). A
summary of these conditions is that an ethical system must be: general in form, universal in
application and, as a standard of right and wrong, it must outweigh any non moral concerns.
Because of this universal nature, these systems are described as normative ethics (as opposed to meta
ethics, which describes the nature of ethics itself, or applied ethics which applies an ethical standard to
a practical situation). Any discussion of norms quickly encounters the problems familiar to the other
branches of philosophy: Are universal norms? If there are how can we know what they are? How do I
demonstrate that something is a norm? These questions are far beyond the scope of any one system of
normative ethics and certainly beyond this paper. Thus, we must leave an elaborate justification for the
reason for adopting a specific set of norms to different discussion.
To that end, I propose that the purpose of a system of ethics should be to identify a self consistent set
of normative claims that would be accepted by any morally responsible individual . Where a morally
responsible individual is defined as someone whom other morally responsible individuals identify as
such. This definition is obviously self referential and poses yet more questions that are beyond the
scope of this paper. However, this definition can provide a minimal criterion

Analysis Of The Book American Way By Gary Althen
I was always interested in understand wf the american (capitalize proper nouns) culture. When I first
came here I noticed that americans are really independent and self reliant individuals, so for the
research I chose the topic American friendship so I could understand better what americans think
about friendship. According to the author of the book American Ways (written by Gary Althen with
Janet Bennet), americans do not like to feel dependent on someone or that someone become V
dependent on them. The author also said that americans have different groups of friends. Friends to go
to the movie, to study, and so on. For my research I interviewed 15 americans, namely 12 students of
the University of Arkansas and 3 older friends of mine (a couple and one other friend) that I met
because of a program of the UofA. The interviewees were between 20 and 50 years of age. Some of
the students I already knew and a few others was s/v random students. My survey had simple

friendship, what are they prepare VT to give for a friend and if they have any international friends.

Apartheid And The System Of Apartheid In South Africa
Ever since Hitler s reign of segregating the Jews from Germans during World War ll, nobody thought
that would ever happen again because of how horrible it was and how many lives were lost because of
it. That was until 1948 when Apartheid started. Apartheid is a system of racial segregation in South
Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party and the government. The whites wanted
domination of the non whites and all the power. To do so, the government got rid of many of their
rights. The black population was not very fond of this and wanted their rights back. In fact, the black
population made up 72% of South Africa and the whites only made up 16%, which is way less than
the blacks. The reason there was not many whites was because Britain gained control over South
Africa and were controlling everything and everyone. It started out with a numerous amount of laws
and statements the government created. The Afrikaner National Party creates the policy of apartheid,
initially putting it into effect. Then came classifying the races during the Population Registration Act.
Soon enough separate public spaces were created to make sure the blacks and whites didn t interact.
Homelands were created for the blacks, striping them of their South African Citizenship and making
them carry around passports. This relates very closely to when Hitler made the Jews wear the star of
david and carry around their papers to identify them. Like the jews, the blacks were forced out of their
homes and forced to live on the new reserves. Everything that was happening helped the white
minority gain more power because the Africans were limited to what they could do. Since many
blacks did not like the pass laws that were created, they would go against them to support their
families. The consequences for not following the pass laws were harassment, fines, and getting
arrested. This led to many blacks wanting to get their rights back and be equal with the whites. Many
tried to end apartheid, including Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was an anti apartheid radical and
leader of the African National Congress(ANC). He was determined to help the people in South Africa
regain their rights and equality. He decided to take a handful of

Inequality In Afghanistan
This film was powerful. Illustrating many aspects of gender inequality in Afghanistan, this film
communicated to me just how oppressed women are in these middle eastern countries and how drastic
of devices they have to resort to in order to live a life worth living. It was truly moving. This film
certainly changed my perception of what it is like to live in Afghanistan as a women. This film
changed this perception in two way. The first of which is that this film exposed me to the rigor at
which oppression is enforced particularly by the Taliban. I have always thought of the Taliban as a
militant government group that pushed its oppressive agenda by way of force, but only on rare
occasions. This film changed that as it showed how the Taliban ... Show more content on

Now I see that they feel it terribly therefore we must act. This film has convinced me we must do

of foreign issues. My voice is weak by itself but strong with others, that is why I can help these
women by joining local social activist groups in my community and making our collective voices
heard. The overall goal would be to pass legislation that would create education centers for women in
Afghanistan because education is the first step to empowering women and leading them from
oppression according to Nicholas Kristof. Overall this film was incredibly powerful and this movie
reinforced some common themes in the general paper course, most significantly the prevalence of
childhood marriage and the psychological torture that accompanies it which was touched upon in
Nujood, Yemen s youngest Divorcee says father has squandered cash from her book and The Women s

The potato famine in 1844 is a very large piece of Irish history, and it left more than a million people
dead from starvation and disease (Dorothy Denneen Volo 2018). This caused the Irish diaspora, and as
they moved to England the Irish brought with them the broadside ballad tradition that thrived in
England and Ireland in the mid 19th century , which was songs about sailors and soldiers, merchants
and innkeepers that reflected the newly industrialized British Isles (Cohen, Norm, Kevin S. Fontenot,
Steven Loza, Richard March, Paul F. Wells and Maria Williams 2018). This left an impact, and now
Irish musical styles can be found in many English ballad tunes. This isn t however, a form of
traditional Irish folk music, actually much of the Irish music known in America in the late 18th and
early 19th centuries was music that had roots in oral tradition, but which had been processed by
classically trained composers and arrangers (Norm Cohen 2014). The Irish weren t fully accepted in
England and were discriminated against, and when the English passed laws forbidding the Irish to
speak their own language, they turned to music to help them remember important events and hold on
to their heritage (Dorothy Denneen Volo 2018). Today, that discrimination is gone, and Ireland gained
their independence in 1922. Now, Ireland s finest musicians play

Executive Summary This study compares the I/O functionalities such as data structures, algorithms
and cryptograpy between Linux, Windows, and FreeBSD. Most importantly, the data structures used
in block and character devices for Windows and FreeBSD are also compared against those of Linux
operating system. With respect to I/O operations, this study specifically examines the different types
of devices, I/O scheduling, and so forth, and compares their implementation in Windows and FreeBSD
versus Linux.
Introduction
Generally, computer components are two fold, namely hardware and software components. The
hardware requires an operating system (OS) to manage and coordinate its software resources as well
as provide services for computer application programs [4]. Application programs that run in a
computer require an OS. In essense, the OS acts as a central host that handles hardware operation
details [4]. All computers are run by an OS of some type. Some of the most popular OS versions in the
market are Linux, Windows and FreeBSD [1]. Linux is an open source development and free software
whose source code can be freely used, redistributed and modified by third party OS developers. The
range of Windows Operating Systems are created by Microsoft Corporation. Unlike Linux, Windows
consists of proprietary closed sources [5]. FreeBSD is an advanced version of OS and runs on modern

Are Non-Monetary Rewards in the Workplace Beneficial
Are Non monetary Rewards in the Workplace Beneficial?
Many high performance companies understand the importance of offering awards and incentives that
recognize, validate, and value outstanding work. They help keep the employees motivated and
productive, and are effective methods of reinforcing company expectations and goals. When the
management of a department gets together to put an incentive program into place, they have to decide
which awards are worth the effort. They also have to consider the perceived value of earning the
award, as well as the effort that is required to earn it. Management and employees may perceive non
monetary incentives to be more valuable than the retail value of the award in cash. Non monetary

According to research performed by Allen and Helms (2002), they confirmed the importance of
regular expressions of appreciation by managers and leaders to encourage behavior of employees to
reach strategic goals. Developmental opportunities, such as being assigned to special projects, can also
be a powerful form of non monetary recognition. Being chosen to accomplish a company initiative is
motivating. It helps employees gain new skills and experiences, demonstrates trust in their abilities,
and adds variety to an individuals work.
Successful Recognition Janet Wiscombe (2002), an associate editor of Workforce, stated that
compensation is a right and recognition is a gift. To successfully recognize employees, emphasize on
the success instead of dwelling on the things that went wrong. Deliver recognition and reward openly
and publicly. Give recognition in a personal and honest manner. Tailor the recognition and reward to
the unique needs of the people involved. Timing is crucial, so contribution should be recognized
throughout a project. Reward contribution close to the time when an achievement is realized, since
delays can weaken the impact. Strive for a clear, unambiguous, and well communicated connection
between accomplishment and reward. Make sure people understand why they received an award and
what criteria were used to determine it. Also, recognize recognition by recognizing the people who
recognize others for excellence. Non monetary

Essay about Puerto Rican Migration to Nyc
Christine Costanzo Puerto Rican Migration to New York City
The story of the Puerto Rican people is unique in the history of U.S. immigration, just as Puerto Rico
occupies a distinctive and sometimes confusing position in the nation s civic fabric. Puerto Rico has
been a possession of the U.S. for more than a century, but it has never been a state. Its people have
been U.S. citizens since 1917, but they have no vote in Congress. As citizens, the people of Puerto
Rico can move throughout the 50 states just as any other Americans can legally, this is considered
internal migration, not immigration. However, in moving to the mainland, Puerto Ricans leave a

factory owners and employment agencies had begun recruiting heavily on the island. In addition, the
postwar years saw the return home of thousands of Puerto Rican war veterans, whose service in the
U.S. military had shown them the world. But perhaps the most significant cause was the sudden
availability of affordable air travel. After centuries of immigration by boat, the Puerto Rican migration
became the first great airborne migration in U.S. history. The first great generation of Puerto Rican
migrants established communities in cities throughout the country, including Chicago, Philadelphia,
and Newark, as well as in mid Atlantic farm villages and the mill towns of New England. However,
since the 1930s, the capital of Puerto Rican culture in the mainland U.S. has been New York City.
Despite its great distance from the Caribbean, New York had long been the landing point of seagoing
Puerto Ricans, and the airborne newcomers followed suit. The new migrants settled in great numbers
in Northeast Manhattan, in a neighborhood that soon became known as Spanish Harlem. Although
many had been farm workers in Puerto Rico, they know found themselves working in a wide variety

The Report From Raleigh s News And Observer The Ghost...
The report from Raleigh s News Observer The Ghost of 1898; Wilmington s Race Riot and the Rise of
White Supremacy by Timothy B. Tyson discussed the historical event that is crucial, yet was rarely
spoke of until recent years. On November 10, 1989 Wilmington a majority black populated city as
well as center of African American political and economic success a group of white supremacist
burned down the building the local black newspaper resulting in the killing dozens of black residents,
banishment of successful black leaders as well as their white supporters. The effects of this incident
set path to the further expansion of white supremacy, and to an era of segregation, violence and
repression. One of the main contribution to the success of the Democratic party ruled by white
supremacist was the usage of the press, particularly newspapers, that carry propaganda to push the
campaign in their favor. They exploited the power of the press to demonized black men as rapists who
threatened the pure flower of Southern women (Tyson 7) and as tyrannical demons that threatens the
white race.
Racial superiority of whites was an ideology deeply ingrained, but the Democratic Party understood
that it would be crucial to their campaign to fan [the ember of bigotry] to full flame (6). The major
theme of the campaign became a mission to save white supremacy from Negro domination. Black
men are portrayed as heinous and savage creatures that target the pure image of white women.

Bread Produced with 100% Ontario Based Flour
In January, 2013 we began our experimental work by conducting detailed analysis of results of bread
produced with 100% Ontario based flour. Since direct application of Ontario based flour resulted in
excessive dryness, and reduced volume of bread, we decided to conduct series of semi industrial trials
in order to adapt our present formula to new flour chemical composition. The objective of our
investigation in this phase was to apply Ontario flour, and get the bread with the same moisture, and
volume as it is originally.
After this first attempt in January, 2013 we firstly tried to increase gluten structure. Gluten is additive
commonly used in bakery industry which primary function is to enhance gas retention capacity, water
absorption, and retention, as well as, increase dough strength. Initially, our formula contained 3 4 % of
gluten, and we tested formulas with up to 10% of gluten. Increasing of gluten did not give significant
results, and formulas with 10% of gluten had increase of volume of about 10%. We did not test
formulas with more than 10% of gluten because it is very expensive additive, and it is not
economically to apply it in higher concentrations.
After learning that gluten does not give expected results, our next step was increasing protein level by
introducing the balancing the flours. We decided to introduce harder wheat flours with higher
concentration of proteins. Average protein level of Ontario flour is 10.5%, while west flours contain

In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the café window. Concerned
for the safety of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear and robe. Her jaw

the path garment bags from a high end department store. Behind them was Dr. Edwards who had just

He greeted her with a big, juicy, wet, kiss, then they all just walked right in.
Consuelo, who was still owning her tantrum, was offended by their smiles and casual stances. Not

struggle a whole lot on her short life, but at the end she proved to be a very strong child. Tillie Olsen s
characterization of Emily shows a strong female protagonist who overcomes numerous odds:
loneliness, humbleness, vulnerability, and her disability.

Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military
1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate
relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The
example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at
Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers
are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles.
Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health
and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members
of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers.
As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking
about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support
from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military.
In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a
very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private
troubles is very important. 2. Sociological Concept: The book defines in group as, a category of
people who share a common identity and sense of belonging (Witt,

Intentions Leads To Happiness In Wuthering Heights, By...
Happiness is a very elusive and subjective thing. In general, the intentions behind our actions can lead
to happiness, or they may not. Authors usually write about the intentions of character s actions, so then
the effect that the actions have on their happiness can easily be linked to their intentions. Many books
over many genres have been written about one of the primary questions of happiness: do good
intentions lead to happiness? In some novels, purely good intentions and bad intentions can lead to
distress and unhappiness. In others, happiness is brought upon by good intent. In the novels The
Awakening by Kate Chopin, 1984 by George Orwell, Atonement by Ian McEwan, and Wuthering

The best of good intentions and things done from habit do not necessarily lead to happiness. People
throughout history have always bought things with the intention of making themselves happy, only to
regret it later. The British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore explains this by saying that, ... brands
that make people happy at the point of usage rather than at the point of purchase are more likely to be
anticipated by consumers to be bought again (Schofield 1). The customers who buy the brand to make
them happy at the point of purchase have a good intent, they just want to make themselves happy.
Even though these consumers have a good intent, they tend to be less satisfied than those with the
intent of instant gratification. Though this intention is good it does not lead to long term happiness.
The intentions behind things other than shopping also may be good and not yield good results. In Ian
McEwan s Atonement, Briony has good intentions toward Cecilia and Robbie when apologizing to
them but she notes, It sounded so foolish and inadequate, as though she had knocked over a favorite
houseplant, or forgotten a birthday (McEwan 329). Briony s apology to Robbie and Cecilia was very
heartfelt and had good intentions but it did not bring Briony peace or happiness. This apology never

Who Invented Gunpowder
Gunpowder was one of the most revolutionary inventions in warfare. It shifted many different aspects
of war including weapons, battlefield tactics and fortifications. Even though gunpowder and
gunpowder weaponry originated from China it was the Europeans who utilized and invested the most
into gunpowder technology. This investment in weaponry is what made Europeans more powerful
than the rest of the world. By the 15th, 16th and 17th century the Europeans had surpassed the
Chinese in the construction of firearms. One of the reasons why the Europeans drove this innovation
was because of the amount of wars that were fought in Europe during this time period. More wars
meant more investments in weapons and tactics. Thus gunpowder brought about a military revolution
which changed the system in which wars were fought. From the beginnings of gunpowder in China to

The Modern World
There are many challenges in the modern world. Education has been one of the biggest challenges
throughout history and continues to still be a challenge around the world. There is much competition,
especially between countries and churches over who had the best education system, but it is nearly
impossible to determine what the best educational system entails, which is one of the many
challenges. Education has always been major topic among churches across the world. Some of the
main objectives of the church are explained in Holy Longing by R. Rolheiser, which uses five
metaphors to describe the church. One of the metaphors that Rolheiser used describes how the church
is like a rope in that it leads us to where we want to go and where we will succeed (Rolheiser 1999).
The church is a place that will help guide and lead you as a rope would. Churches provide many tools
and programs that are designed to help educate and guide people.

Lord Of The Flies And Animal Farm Comparative Analysis
Savagery restricted in society in Lord of the Flies: annotated bibliography Gulbin, Suzanne. Parallels
and Contrasts in Lord of the Flies and Animal Farm. The English Journal, Vol. 55, No. 1, Jan.1966, pp.
86 88+92. The fundamental objective of this scholarly article is to compare and contrast the two
controversial novels Animal farm and Golding s Lord of the Flies. When writing this piece the author
had several points, such as how the two books reflect society, how each book has a specific incident
that results in the breakdown of the established order, dissension between the protagonist and
antagonist, and four more strong compelling ties between the stories. However, for my research only
one comparison was useful to my point and that would be how in both stories there is a transformation
between humans and savages. When writing this comparison the author discusses civilization s role in
this process. She claims that in Lord of the Flies Golding creates the idea that every man is part savage
and that savagery is concealed only by the barrier of civilization and sociological norms. The author
also presents the idea that these restrictions society implement are very fragile, stating that it only
takes a couple of people to revert back to savagery to turn a group of people into animals. This is
shown by the pig s head that was mutilated by flies, which symbolizes the evil and degenerate in man
and particular in Jack, who as a pig or savage, becomes lord of nothing

monitored (an action known as active surveillance) and not treated unless absolutely necessary, since
the side effects of surgery or other treatment options are often far worse than the prostate cancer itself.
The prostate is part of the male reproductive system. This walnut sized gland is located just under ...

Sometimes and enlarged prostate is not caused by cancer but by a medical problem called benign
prostatic hyperplasia (enlarging of the prostate).
There is currently no one set of traits or behaviors that are linked to prostate cancer. The CDC notes,
however, that if a man has a father, brother, or son who has had prostate cancer [he] is two to three
times more likely to develop the disease himself.
A man may suspect he has prostate cancer if he starts to have difficulty urinating and/or cannot fully

or sees blood in the urine, experiences pain the back of the pelvis, or experiences painful ejaculation.
These symptoms do not necessarily mean that prostate cancer is present, but a medical check up is

My Career Values For Fitness And Physical Education
I chose this career path because I am passionate about fitness and helping others. I know for this
career you must have patience, athletic ability, and motivational skills. I have worked with kids, and
when their faces light up because they did the activity correctly, it makes me smile a lot, and it s
rewarding. No one inspired me to do this career, I have always loved working out and athletics ever
since I could remember; I also was pretty good at it too. When I was in elementary, intermediate,
middle, and high school, P.E/athletics was my favorite class. When I workout, my mind clears, and it
is also my get a way place plus I love the feeling of working out. So that led me to find a career that
could be similar to what I love to do.
I think it is great that there are careers that you can pursue that you have a lot of interest in. You have
to pick a job that you will be happy in. I think that physical education teachers make a difference in
kids lives and the teacher makes an impression on them as far as fitness. Some values that I care about
are accomplishment, fitness, and love for what you do life. All of my values can tie into my career
choice which is physical education. Physical education is all about fitness and motivating kids to be
physically active and do their best. You need to have a passion for your job and what you do so you
can be fulfilled at your job. Accomplishments mean that you have done something meaningful in your
life and you have been successful. I

  • 2. `` Pied Beauty `` By Gerard Manley Hopkins Throughout recorded history, humans have accredited the happenings of nature to a higher power; shown through religious beliefs past and present. The Greeks believed in a myriad of gods and goddesses, who supposedly governed all aspects of life and nature. They believed in a god or goddess to represent each part of nature from the sun to the sea; there was even a goddess of rainbows. The Grecians used their religion to explain the elements of their world for which they had no other explanation. Christians explain the natural world in a similar fashion. Instead of a god or goddess for each individual piece of nature, they preach that nature was created and is controlled by their God. The belief of divine control is a popular topic in literature; specifically poetry. Pied Beauty written by Gerard Manley Hopkins in 1877, and Design written by Robert Frost in 1922 are just two examples of many that follow this trend. Gerard Manley Hopkins was a 19th century, English, Victorian poet. He was brought up in a religious and artistic family, leading to his becoming a poet and Jesuit priest (Reid). Alternatively, Robert Frost was a 20th century, modern, American poet. Frost lived and taught in New England; through his poetry he described much of its scenery and landscape (Gerber). Despite the differences in their lives and writing styles, Frost and Hopkins developed poems of similar image and theme. It is believed that Laotians migrated to Laos from South China as early as the 8th century. Lan Xang was the very first state established in the country during the 14th century. The ruler at the time, King Saya Setthathirat transferred the capital known as Luang Prabang to the newly formed Vientiane during the 16th century ( Brief History of Laos ). The Lan Xang kingdom was in decree until the early 1700s. From that point on, the Kingdom was split into 3 separate kingdoms under 3 different yet hostile dynasties. Differences And Similarities Between Frankenstein And Grendel Frankenstein s Monster along with Grendel are both monsters that society ignores their existence and both of their societies finds them to be a distress. Their societies doesn t enjoy them because they are not like the rest of society. Both the Monster and Grendel aim to find their place in society along with their purpose and reasoning to life. Considering their happiness comes at infrequent times, both eventually accept their role into society by coping with themselves and their inner traits to be loyal with themselves, continuing to be more intelligent and be on the correct path. Up until the twenty first century, gays were often the outcast of modern society. As our society gets more and more secular, as it should, there will be even less outcasts of society. In the Monster and Grendel s time, they were the outcasts of their society for good and bad reasons. Both of them would get judged and scare people on first sight. All men hate the wretched (Shelley 128) It s amazing the negative attention a peasant would get where a king would not. A popular person will dodge harassment from society where a not so popular person would not. What a peasant would do is not appropriate for a king to do. The reason I say this is, the only difference between acts of violence and courageous acts is the matter of who commits them. The incitement to violence depends upon total trans valuation of the ordinary values. By a single stroke, the most criminal acts may be converted to heroic and meritorious deeds . (Gardner 117) It s sad to say, but society can oppress the undesirables. Murder and mayhem are the life and soul of revolution. (Gardner 119) All throughout time, the history books were written by the ones in control. Who were the ones in control? The ones that murdered until they themselves got murdered due to a revolution. • 5. The Between Female And Female Adolescents A. When traveling to the village, I watched the younger villagers participate in recess. I initially realized the strong distinction between the two gender s interactions. Through the three days in the village, I came to realize that the female adolescents were not permitted to participate in contact sports. In comparison, the male adolescents were consistently shown participating in soccer, the national sport of Haiti. I would constantly watch the interactions between the two genders of the adolescents and noticed that they were blatantly distant. The females were shown gossiping on the playgrounds and playing tag, ignoring the total fact of the males playing soccer very aggressively. On the last two days in the village, Aina and I attempted to join their game of soccer, but they were hesitant until we supplied an adequate soccer ball for them. Even when they allowed us to join the game with them, they still were very hesitant to interact with us in relation to passing us the ball. In addition, we also gave the girls a ball to play with, but they just put it to the side and neglected to use it. It was an overall interesting experience, because even when we moved from playing with the older adolescents to the younger group, the same distinction was present and the only children playing with us were male. B. When traveling to the village, there were noticeable differences of the native s culture to the typical American culture. In accordance to my beliefs, the biggest ... All people have a different view on whether or not it is right to avenge the killing of another, through the death of the killers. • 9. Creating Opportunities For Students Proficiency ... I understand the need to create opportunities for my students to show their proficiency in directing their own learning and have done so within my classroom environment. I am aware that as the Learning Manager this requires me to have a clear understanding of each student s strengths, needs, and interests. This is needed in order to create a diverse and relevant classroom experience that revolves around the curriculum. Please see my examples of such opportunities below: EXAMPLE 1 During diagnostic testing of a particular year 8 class the reading and spelling levels of certain students were well below average. These results were amplified when it was obvious that the attendance within the class was sporadic and behaviour unruly. These combined, led to a poor attitude towards classroom participation and assessment tasks. The action displayed below was created after my EPL 3 placement when it became evident that the classroom needed consistent routine and positive reinforcement in order to encourage student participation. The required action manifested in the form of motivating student interest, learning and differentiation in the classroom. The Year 8 students needed a form of routine within the class and a point of interest which would be renewed systematically throughout the term. Thus, the rules and expectations chart was created in tandem with the students, in order for the students to take ownership of their behavior and attitudes within the classroom. In ... Tefnin s work is impressive in its detail, yet he spends little time discussing the archaeological context beyond general geographic position. Reisner and Junker, who excavated the majority of the tombs containing reserve heads, published the heads with their context. Nevertheless, neither included the heads or contexts excavated by the other. Luckily, the methodologies employed by both Reisner and Junker were ahead of their time. Thanks to their careful publication, it is possible, at least to some degree, to discuss the contexts with confidence. • 17. Advantages to a Rigorous Approach to Environmental Virtue... A good ethical theory requires both logical rigor and intuitive appeal to provide an effective tool for understanding what is right and what is wrong. In the field of environmental ethics, there has been significant scholarship in developing a duty ethics based on the inherent value of nature, most notably by Paul Taylor. Taylor indeed provides a logically clear argument for protecting the environment by building on the principles he calls the biocentric outlook (Taylor, 99). While this scholarship has been helpful in offering an explanation for what those who value the environment intuitively recognize, some have noticed that it does not provide positive answers to how we should live (Cafaro, 31). Virtue ethicists, on the other hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additional insight is gained by examining the formal conditions presented by Taylor (Taylor, 27.). A summary of these conditions is that an ethical system must be: general in form, universal in application and, as a standard of right and wrong, it must outweigh any non moral concerns. Because of this universal nature, these systems are described as normative ethics (as opposed to meta ethics, which describes the nature of ethics itself, or applied ethics which applies an ethical standard to a practical situation). Any discussion of norms quickly encounters the problems familiar to the other branches of philosophy: Are universal norms? If there are how can we know what they are? How do I demonstrate that something is a norm? These questions are far beyond the scope of any one system of normative ethics and certainly beyond this paper. Thus, we must leave an elaborate justification for the reason for adopting a specific set of norms to different discussion. To that end, I propose that the purpose of a system of ethics should be to identify a self consistent set of normative claims that would be accepted by any morally responsible individual . Where a morally responsible individual is defined as someone whom other morally responsible individuals identify as such. This definition is obviously self referential and poses yet more questions that are beyond the scope of this paper. However, this definition can provide a minimal criterion ... • 21. Apartheid And The System Of Apartheid In South Africa Ever since Hitler s reign of segregating the Jews from Germans during World War ll, nobody thought that would ever happen again because of how horrible it was and how many lives were lost because of it. That was until 1948 when Apartheid started. Apartheid is a system of racial segregation in South Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party and the government. The whites wanted domination of the non whites and all the power. To do so, the government got rid of many of their rights. The black population was not very fond of this and wanted their rights back. In fact, the black population made up 72% of South Africa and the whites only made up 16%, which is way less than the blacks. The reason there was not many whites was because Britain gained control over South Africa and were controlling everything and everyone. It started out with a numerous amount of laws and statements the government created. The Afrikaner National Party creates the policy of apartheid, initially putting it into effect. Then came classifying the races during the Population Registration Act. Soon enough separate public spaces were created to make sure the blacks and whites didn t interact. Homelands were created for the blacks, striping them of their South African Citizenship and making them carry around passports. This relates very closely to when Hitler made the Jews wear the star of david and carry around their papers to identify them. Like the jews, the blacks were forced out of their homes and forced to live on the new reserves. Everything that was happening helped the white minority gain more power because the Africans were limited to what they could do. Since many blacks did not like the pass laws that were created, they would go against them to support their families. The consequences for not following the pass laws were harassment, fines, and getting arrested. This led to many blacks wanting to get their rights back and be equal with the whites. Many tried to end apartheid, including Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was an anti apartheid radical and leader of the African National Congress(ANC). Puerto Rico has been a possession of the U.S. for more than a century, but it has never been a state. Its people have been U.S. citizens since 1917, but they have no vote in Congress. As citizens, the people of Puerto Rico can move throughout the 50 states just as any other Americans can legally, this is considered internal migration, not immigration. However, in moving to the mainland, Puerto Ricans leave a homeland with its own distinct identity and culture, and the transition can ... In addition, the postwar years saw the return home of thousands of Puerto Rican war veterans, whose service in the U.S. military had shown them the world. But perhaps the most significant cause was the sudden availability of affordable air travel. After centuries of immigration by boat, the Puerto Rican migration became the first great airborne migration in U.S. history. The first great generation of Puerto Rican migrants established communities in cities throughout the country, including Chicago, Philadelphia, and Newark, as well as in mid Atlantic farm villages and the mill towns of New England. However, since the 1930s, the capital of Puerto Rican culture in the mainland U.S. has been New York City. Despite its great distance from the Caribbean, New York had long been the landing point of seagoing Puerto Ricans, and the airborne newcomers followed suit. The new migrants settled in great numbers in Northeast Manhattan, in a neighborhood that soon became known as Spanish Harlem. Although many had been farm workers in Puerto Rico, they know found themselves working in a wide variety of jobs, staffing the hospitals, the hotels, the garment factories, and the police departments of their new hometown, and they soon became a significant force in the city s political and cultural life. Tyson discussed the historical event that is crucial, yet was rarely spoke of until recent years. On November 10, 1989 Wilmington a majority black populated city as well as center of African American political and economic success a group of white supremacist burned down the building the local black newspaper resulting in the killing dozens of black residents, banishment of successful black leaders as well as their white supporters. The effects of this incident set path to the further expansion of white supremacy, and to an era of segregation, violence and repression. One of the main contribution to the success of the Democratic party ruled by white supremacist was the usage of the press, particularly newspapers, that carry propaganda to push the campaign in their favor. They exploited the power of the press to demonized black men as rapists who threatened the pure flower of Southern women (Tyson 7) and as tyrannical demons that threatens the white race. Racial superiority of whites was an ideology deeply ingrained, but the Democratic Party understood that it would be crucial to their campaign to fan [the ember of bigotry] to full flame (6). The major theme of the campaign became a mission to save white supremacy from Negro domination. Black men are portrayed as heinous and savage creatures that target the pure image of white women. ... Since direct application of Ontario based flour resulted in excessive dryness, and reduced volume of bread, we decided to conduct series of semi industrial trials in order to adapt our present formula to new flour chemical composition. The objective of our investigation in this phase was to apply Ontario flour, and get the bread with the same moisture, and volume as it is originally. After this first attempt in January, 2013 we firstly tried to increase gluten structure. Gluten is additive commonly used in bakery industry which primary function is to enhance gas retention capacity, water absorption, and retention, as well as, increase dough strength. Initially, our formula contained 3 4 % of gluten, and we tested formulas with up to 10% of gluten. Increasing of gluten did not give significant results, and formulas with 10% of gluten had increase of volume of about 10%. We did not test formulas with more than 10% of gluten because it is very expensive additive, and it is not economically to apply it in higher concentrations. After learning that gluten does not give expected results, our next step was increasing protein level by introducing the balancing the flours. We decided to introduce harder wheat flours with higher concentration of proteins. Average protein level of Ontario flour is 10.5%, while west flours contain 12.7 ± ... • 34. Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military 1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles. Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers. As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military. In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private troubles is very important. 2. In general, the intentions behind our actions can lead to happiness, or they may not. Authors usually write about the intentions of character s actions, so then the effect that the actions have on their happiness can easily be linked to their intentions. Many books over many genres have been written about one of the primary questions of happiness: do good intentions lead to happiness? In some novels, purely good intentions and bad intentions can lead to distress and unhappiness. In others, happiness is brought upon by good intent. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best of good intentions and things done from habit do not necessarily lead to happiness. The customers who buy the brand to make them happy at the point of purchase have a good intent, they just want to make themselves happy. Even though these consumers have a good intent, they tend to be less satisfied than those with the intent of instant gratification. Parallels and Contrasts in Lord of the Flies and Animal Farm. The English Journal, Vol. 55, No. 1, Jan.1966, pp. 86 88+92. The fundamental objective of this scholarly article is to compare and contrast the two controversial novels Animal farm and Golding s Lord of the Flies. When writing this piece the author had several points, such as how the two books reflect society, how each book has a specific incident that results in the breakdown of the established order, dissension between the protagonist and antagonist, and four more strong compelling ties between the stories. However, for my research only one comparison was useful to my point and that would be how in both stories there is a transformation between humans and savages. When writing this comparison the author discusses civilization s role in this process. She claims that in Lord of the Flies Golding creates the idea that every man is part savage and that savagery is concealed only by the barrier of civilization and sociological norms. The author also presents the idea that these restrictions society implement are very fragile, stating that it only takes a couple of people to revert back to savagery to turn a group of people into animals. This is shown by the pig s head that was mutilated by flies, which symbolizes the evil and degenerate in man and particular in Jack, who as a pig or savage, becomes lord of nothing ...
