Classroom Setting And Proposed Set Of Classroom Rules
I. Classroom Setting and Proposed Set of Classroom Rules
The classroom setting for the following procedures is a 2nd grade classroom. I will set high
expectations for my students from the first day of school. The learning environment in my classroom
will be warm, open, and fair. The rules proposed for my classroom are as follows:
1. Raise Your Hand Before You Speak
2. Be in Your Seat and Ready to Learn When Lessons Begin
3. Listen When Others Are Speaking
4. Work Quietly and Respect Those Learning Around You
5. Follow Directions The First Time
6. Keep Hands, Feet, and Objects to Yourself
7. Always Use Walking Feet in the Classroom and Hallway
II. Describe your future classroom procedures for entering the classroom.

If needed, apologize to any classmate for unkind actions.
Remain seated until Mrs. Hutchcraft dismisses you.
IV. Describe your future classroom procedures for using the drinking fountain.
Students will refer to the hand signal chart posted by the smartboard and the procedure will be as
follows:
Raise your hand and hold up three fingers. (This is easy to remember because it looks like a W for
water.)
Wait for the teacher to respond with the same hand signal while nodding yes or no.
Stop by the door and pick up the water fountain lanyard.
Walk directly to the nearest water fountain and back remembering hallway behavior the entire time.
V. Describe your future classroom procedures for gaining the attention of the whole class.
Attention grabbers or whole brain response is a wonderful way to get your students attention. The
procedure is simple. I will say a phrase, and the students will respond with the corresponding phrase.
These will be taught throughout the first week of school. In order for the system to remain effective, I
will have several cues to rotate. The follow are just a few examples of my favorite.
Class, Class ..... Yes, Yes!
Holy Moly ..... Guacamole!
Macaroni Cheese ..... Everybody Freeze!
Flat tire ..... Shhh!
Tootsie Roll, Lollipop ..... We ve been talking now let s stop!

Like Water For Chocolate Mother
How do the mother and child relations, in the books, Blood Wedding and Like Water For Chocolate
reveal the characteristics of the mothers? Mother and child relations are portrayed in our factual life,
which affect the child, and it s up bringing. Some relations are very solicitous and create a greater
bond between each other, while some do not. The authors Federico Garcia Lorca and Laura Esquivel
implement characters with relations of mother and child to show the characteristics of the mothers
through their relations with their children, and form the plot. These relations and feelings between the
two books Blood Wedding and Like Water For Chocolate connect to our real world. The qualities of a
mother are expressed, through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrary, Laura Esquivel portrays Mama Elena as a widow, who does not allow Tita to marry
anyone, as long as Mama Elena lives; as per the De La Garza tradition. Mama Elena enforces her do
all the chores in the house and treats her like a housekeeper. For Mama Elena, tradition was above her
daughter, which obstructs Tita from being loved by her mother. Thus, this shows the affection between
mother and child in the two books was opposite, which hints the audience the character of Mama
Elena to be a selfish, stern and a ruthless mother, while the Bridegroom s Mother to be an affectionate,
tender woman. Both the authors, Federico Garcia Lorca and Laura Esquivel show deep affection in
between the mother child bond. In Like Water For Chocolate, Tita nurses and feeds Rosaura s child,
without being a mother, which builds a mother and child relation between the two. Similarly, such
affection is also portrayed when Leonardo s wife sings a lullaby to her child, to put him to sleep. Thus,
there is common affection in the books, to enable the reader/audience understand the real connection
between mother and child. Both the mothers are possessive and care about their child to different
extents. In Blood Wedding, the Mother lets her Husband and Leonardo s son leave, which causes their
death through Felix. Therefore, due to this loss the Mother suffered, she is more affectionate towards
Leonardo. She then requests the

Drug Testing Welfare
Since the early War on Drugs and the welfare reform of the 1990s, those who receive public benefits
have been under the microscope of drug warriors and policy makers. Those who are proponents of
drug testing say that substance abuse and addiction can interfere with the ability to obtain or maintain
jobs. Drug testing can help welfare recipients prepare for the job market by getting them clean and
ready for the job application process (Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation
(ASPE), 2011). Drug use and abuse can also contribute to child abuse and neglect (Center for Law and
Social Policy (CLASP), 2013). Testing welfare recipients can also be cost effective, as it would
prevent the misuse of public funds for the purchase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The special need of the state must be sufficiently important to both suppress the normal Fourth
Amendment requirement of individualized suspicion and offset the individual s privacy interest.
However, if the court finds no special state need, ...the search is unreasonable (p.570).
Both Michigan and Florida were determined to have no special needs fit to blanket test all welfare
applicants and thus the drug test programs in both states were halted. In Marchwinski v. Howard, the
case regarding Michigan s drug test policy, it was shown that several widely known groups were
opposed to drug testing welfare recipients, especially random testing or blanket testing as in Michigan
and Florida. These groups were the the following: the American Public Health Association, the

Jonathan Swift Comparison
Aldous Huxley and Jonathan Swift both have a different way of bringing society s attention to the real
problems of the world. Both authors utilize the New Historicism lense as an influence to each of their
pieces of literature. From 1729 to 1932, there were plenty of historical conflicts that could help each
author make society want to change the current problems that they were facing. In 1932, Huxley
satirizes the sexual freedom and moral decay of the
Roaring 20s in Brave New World. In 1729, Swift satirizes the rising problem of overpopulation in
Ireland in his short story, A Modest Proposal . Over population resulted in a great famine and it
affected most of the people living in Ireland. A popular theory about overpopulation by
Thomas Malthus influenced Swift s short story and Huxley might have used it to contribute to his
novel.
In Brave New World, there were many historical commonalities that could have potentially inspired
Huxley. Huxley wrote Brave New World following the Roaring 20s and during this time period, jazz
music was making its debut and people viewed it as sexual music.
Although Huxley was very cautious and often chose to stay away from ideologies, he used Brave
New World to satirize how the citizens threw out relationships and exchanged them for sex.
Characters forgot their morals and viewed sex as recreational instead of reproductive. Jazz music was
very influential and one very vital instrument to jazz music is the saxophone. In Brave New

Parking Problems At The New Residence Halls
Parking on campus is a recurring problem throughout the years, but the most recent of these problems
has evolved into a catastrophe for and not so much for others. As the fall term came into place, more
and more parking was taken away for the new residence halls. Students regularly admit to hoping
other students would hurry and drop some of their classes, or that the students will go ahead and stop
coming to lectures so there is more parking available and less of a burden. However, the burden of
circling parking lots and the never ending loop of frustrating continues on for the fall term and more is
to come with the lack of parking the campus wishes to offer. The OU Daily has released statements in
articles concerning the matter. The new residence halls will also provide a parking garage or parking
lot in which has a capacity of 1200 1300 parking spots. This is a nice edition for the lack of parking,
but the new residence hall took the place of an old parking lot which held the capacity of 500 600
parking spots. Yes, the parking is nearly doubled, but what good will that doubled number do in
comparison to the number of students (approximately twenty two times the quantity of parking spaces
provided in said lot). The new residence halls may further establish a slightly more extensive parking
lot than previously seen on campus, but the couple hundred more spots available is minuscule in
comparison to the quantity of students and faculty members at the university. The amount

Concert Report: Mozart Symphony No. 40 The western classical concert that I have chosen to review
is A Tale of Two Symphonies. This concert is performed in the Avery Fisher hall within the Lincoln
Center in New York City. It was performed on July 29, 2008. The orchestra that is performing is the
42nd Mostly Mozart Orchestra. The conductor is Louis Langrée. The two pieces being performed in
this concert is Mozart s Symphony No. 40 and Mahler s Das Lied von der Erde. The first piece that
was played was Mozart s Symphony No.40. This is a beautiful piece of music. There are 38 players in

I feel that the fourteen members of chamber orchestra and the two vocalists did an outstanding job.
This piece was well put together. I loved the harmony that was brought forth between the orchestra
and the vocalists. The two vocalists a tenor known as Paul Groves and a soprano known as Anna
Larson, did a beautiful job staying in tune. The way that their voices went back and forth in harmony
was just beautiful. Although I enjoyed both pieces of music I really enjoyed the works of Gustav
Mahler and his piece Lied von der Erde. This piece is rich in drama. I feel that the texture used is this
song is imitative polyphony. I feel that there are various parts in this song that use the similar
melodies. I feel that the harmony between the two vocalists were right on with each other and the
orchestra. You can hear the brass instruments in the very beginning of the songs then the strings, wind
instruments along with the piano and keyboards begin to make their entrance. They come together
very strong but in a peaceful way at first. Towards the middle of the song the tempo and rhythm really
picks up (it seems as if all of their emotions are bursting out) then it slowly begins to drop back to
slower movements. You can really hear the strings during this time. But surprisingly enough just when
you think the song is going to end boom your hit again. This song keeps you on the edge of your

Tompkins Conservation
Deforestation, pollution, poaching, and soil abuse are just four of the innumerable factors that lead to
deleterious effects on the environment. With more and more trees falling under the determined
chainsaws and axe blows of illegal loggers and soil loss from tenuous irrigation methods, South
American governments have a rising concern to protect its ecosystem. But an unusual, and equally
controversial, solution came not within the restraining bounds of the country borders, but from the
efforts of the American multi millionaire and philanthropic conservationist, Douglas Tompkins.
Concerned about the ecology of South America, Tompkins purchased sumptuous strips of forest land
to shield it from the venomous ways of poachers and illegal loggers. ... Show more content on

The best solution to this imminent conflict would be for Tompkins to expropriate a sizeable chunk of
his land to national conservatories to ensure the public had sufficient access to public road, ancestral
grounds, and water and mineral rights. However, he should also maintain a steadfast determination to
keep most of his land as long as necessary to ensure it has recovered from past human interactions and
see it delivered safely into the hands of Argentine conservatories. As a whole, his campaign to
conserve the environment has been successful and beneficial both to him and the ecosystem. In
culmination, Tompkins, as a conservational philanthropist, has inaugurated his conservational efforts
to accumulate a sizeable portion of foreign nations. Due to lawmakers and local residents rising
concern of his control of natural resources and his property blocking public transportation routes, he
must devise a solution that will satisfy both conservational and public demands. Thus, the most
effective and equitable solution would be to sequester most of his land to local conservation efforts, so
as to ensure the government had adequate control over its natural resources and access to ancestral

Cryptography Essay
Abstract With the expansion in the field of computers and highly technically advanced communication
mediums like internet there is a necessity to secure the transmission of data. The information that is
transmitted over the internet is a highly sensitive and critical information which needs to be protected
from adversaries, hackers, and eavesdroppers etc. who bypass the existing security and perform
dangerous actions. Cryptography is the art and science of keeping the data transfer secure from
adversaries, hackers and eavesdroppers. Cryptography and its algorithm forms one of the essential
components to the security mechanisms in order to safeguard the data transmissions and data storage.
Without the use of cryptography the emails and information can be intercepted without any authorized
access.
After researching academic papers related to cryptography I understand the basic working of DES
algorithm and the cracking of the DES algorithm by brute force technology. I would like to explore
the cryptographic algorithms, the flaws associated with the algorithm. In this paper, I will discuss
about the DES algorithm and deficiency with the DES algorithm. I will discuss the existing problem
with double DES algorithm and the basics about the Triple DES and the problem with respect to the
Triple DES. A brief overview of AES has been provided.

Spot Fake Cashiers
Four Tips to Help a Small Business Owner Spot Fake $10 and $20 Bills
If you own a retail business that takes cash, it is important that you train your cashiers to spot fake
currency. For many businesses, it is a basic strategy to simply refuse bills over twenty dollars, but you
still have to deal with the problem of counterfeit $10 and $20 bills. The following are a few things you
and your cashiers should know to spot fake money in you store.
Look for the watermark
This is an image that can be seen when you hold the bill up to the light. The watermark will be a face,
and it will be the same face as the portrait on the bill. It will also be on the right side of the front of the
bill. There are several ways to detect a fake bill using the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you look closely when holding up the note to the light, you can see this thread. It is not printed, but
is a thread that is embedded in the bill. In addition, there is printing on the thread. For the $10 and $20
bills, there will be the letters USA. After this will be the word ten or twenty, depending upon the
denomination.
Using a counterfeit money detection pen
These pens are easy to use and are an important weapon in detecting counterfeit bills. Basically, you
make a mark on the bill the same way you would when using a felt pen. If the mark changes to a color
indicated by the manufacturer of the pen, then the bill is fake. These pens are checking for certain
common chemicals that are used when criminals produce fake money.
Check for the feel of the note and the printing
If you are still unsure after the above three checks, you can take a bill that is known to be authentic
and compare this to the suspicious bill. The first thing to compare is the feel of the bill. Fake bills may
have a thinner texture to them. A better comparison is with the printing. Authentic bills have small and
detailed printing that is produced from metal plates. When a bill is a forgery, the details on a bill are
often blurry. A magnifying glass is best used to detect these

American Outsourcing
In 1989, outsourcing was formally identified as a business strategy that would increase a company s
markets and profits. The idea of outsourcing involves subcontracting manufacturing jobs such as IT
and engineering design to foreign companies. Even though the term outsourcing has been recently
introduced, the concept has been around for quite some time now. Outsourcing had promised to create
more jobs and a better life for Americans. In reality, outsourcing, despite insourcing, has hurt far more
American job holders and job seekers than they have helped. Instead of creating more jobs for
Americans, it has created more jobs for non Americans and left many unemployed. Only a few people
have benefited from outsourcing: company executives, shareholders, and consulting firms.
Insourcing happens when a company decides to bring work that was previously purchased from an
external supplier in house. Unlike outsourcing, insourcing helps create jobs for Americans and can
give them a better life depending on whether the operations are set up to make products for sale in the
United States or if they are just using the United States to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be true but the key here is where the jobs would be created and in the case of outsourcing,
United States is not the answer. Instead, jobs are created overseas in places like India and China,

IBM managed to cut its work force in the USA and move it to India, resulting in USA having a smaller
work force than India. In this case, only India benefits from outsourcing. Few Americans such as
company executives, shareholders, and consulting firms benefit from outsourcing, which is why they
support it and believe outsourcing is what is best for the economy, when in reality it s only best for
them and not other

Zora Neale Hurston Spunk Essay
Throughout history, everyone in the world has had to stick up for themselves at one point, no matter
the situation. Spunk by Zora Neale Hurston was written and published in 1925, this story exemplifies
the importance of sticking up for yourself. It was only the third short story Hurston wrote, but it
prospered. Zora Neale is best known for her works, Their Eyes Were Watching God and Dust Tracks
on a Road, both published in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She was an African American activist
during the Harlem Renaissance who often focused on the African American culture and experiences.
Zora Neale Hurston was born in a small town, Eatonville, Florida, which was one of the first all black

Charles Mingus Influence
Charles Mingus arrived in the jazz scene during a state of flux and his impact changed the way the
jazz was performed and composed from ever since. Mingus s strict sense of jazz traditionalism and his
willingness to experiment with his music led to the creation of many subgenres in jazz music. His
outspoken political views were also very influential subsequent generations of musicians and
composers . The music Mingus made is very tightly connected to the story of his life. After examining
both his music and life in greater detail, it becomes apparent how and why Charles has gone on to
become one of the most important jazz composers since the birth of jazz in the twentieth century.

This would lead to Mingus recording with Armstrong in 1943, which would lead to him recording

record his first record as a bandleader for the Excelsior label as a sextet (Santoro, pg. 57, 2001). Along
with the eleven songs he recorded with Russell Jacquet that year, he started to accumulate a reputation
in the jazz scene which would lead to him joining the Lionel Hampton band in 1947 (Santoro, 2001,
pg. 75). During his time with the Lionel Hampton band, they recorded Mingus Fingers which was one
of the first Mingus solos that brought him some recognition (Santoro, pg. 75, 2001). The solo featured
the use of melodic lines in his bass playing and deft double stops that helped the song become a hit in
the Los Angeles area (Santoro, pg. 76, 2001). He would join the Red Norvo Trio, where his star would
continue to rise (Martin and Waters, pg. 249, 2012). He left the band after he was excluded from a

Technology Changes Role of Database Administrator
Technology Changes Role of Database Administrator
The database administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing and coordinating all database
activities. The DBA s job description includes database design, user coordination, backup, recovery,
overall performance, and database security. The database administrator plays a crucial role in
managing data for the employer. In the past the DBA job has required sharp technical skills along with
management ability. (Shelly, Cashman, Waggoner 1992). However, the arrival on the scene of the
relational database along with the rapidly changing technology has modified the database
administrator s role. This has required organizations to vary the way of handling database

(Sipolt 1995). The traditional database administrator s strength is in creating the physical design of the
database. The procedural database administrator is an expert in accessing data. Procedural DBAs are
responsible for procedural logic support, application code reviews, access path review and analysis,
SQL rewrites, debugging, and analysis to assure optimal execution. (Mullins 1995)
Along with the changing job description, administrators are facing increased demands from the
corporations for which they work. Database administrators are responsible for staff cost control,
hardware, software, and are becoming increasingly responsible for the work quality and response time
of their staff.
(Riggsbee 1995)
The job modifications are not the only change in this industry. Database administrators received a
substantial increase in their wages in 1995. The average earnings for a DBA are now $52,572
according to the 1995 survey source.
However, salaries differ according to the specific region of the country in which one resides. The mid
level database administrator in San Francisco earns
$55,000 to $65,000, substantially more than our survey states. However, Salt
Lake City database administrator s salary fell between $30,000 to $35,000.

Essay On Low Flight Hours
Unmanned Aircraft Systems have taken the Army by storm. While most units fly on a regular basis,
easily meeting their hourly requirements, and becoming very proficient at these tasks. There are
several National Guard Units that continuously fail to meet these requirements. I think that if every
National Guard Unit was able to conduct flight operations where they held weekend drills. You would
see a drastic increase in annual hours flown, as well as overall proficiency and retention of soldiers in
these units. Throughout this paper I will discuss HOR (home of record) unit s flight hour s vs non

effects that low flight hours have on soldier s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is my opinion that the above stated problems with the inability to fly, mission readiness, and
proficiency, in turn lead to a negative command relationship. A negative command relationship could
potentially lead to a lack of trust between leadership. As well as a tension, meaning command may not
believe that you are utilizing all of your Soldiers, therefore they need 4 Soldiers for a detail. However,
based on the UAS MTOE, providing Soldiers for details is practically impossible and could negatively
affect flight operations. Having a positive command relationship will exponentially increase a Units
overall ability to operate successfully. Based on the above mentioned difficulties associated with
conducting flight operations while not having a flight line at your duty station. I think it is fair to
associate the inability to perform flight ops at a Drill duty station with these National Guard Units
failing to meet their requirements. Thus in turn creating less proficient soldiers, which can ultimately
lead to lack of desire to stay in the National Guard. Soldiers enlist to perform a job, and without the
ability to perform the desired job comes a lack of interest in being a National

Examples Of Cultural Hegemony In Doris Lessing
Thesis Statement
Understanding the facts that are presented by Gramsci, Raymond and Althusser, regarding the growth
of the theory of cultural hegemony that is typically originated from Marxist ideas and the post colonial
theory, it is indispensable to apply this to the novels of Doris Lessing. The novels of Lessing are
written mostly about women who lived in the colonial countries and have experienced the problems of
the colonizer and repercussion of colonization. The novels chosen for this research are The Grass is
Singing, The Golden Notebook and The Children of Violence series. The projected thesis aims to
study the hidden injuries of a class which is hurt by the so called rulers. It is the aim of the scholar to
bring out the elements which reveal the dignity of the oppressed, and the economism and politics of
the author as externalized in the selected novels. The main aim is to study the elements hegemony in
these novels. There is great evidence that can be culled from these novels about the fragmented
societies where gender, race and class determine the destiny of people. The author uses a conventional

Introduction To Identity The Unknow Acid Solution
The purpose of this experiment is to identity the unknow acid solution through determining the Ka
value of the reaction experimentally. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1,
with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan.
Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher
Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in
test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1.
So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Dichloroacetic acid is the second
strongest in those 4 acids; this suggests that unknown acid 3 is dichloroacetic acid.

According to Le Chatelier s principle, the equilibrium shifts to the left, making Phenolphthalein
colorless. At a high ph level where the H3O concentration is low, the equilibrium shifts to the right,
showing the pink color of Phenolphthalein. This allows it to be used in both weak acid strong base and
strong acid strong base titration. In a weak acid and strong base titration, the equivalence point would
be above 7 due to the reaction occur between the conjugated base and water. This often makes the pH
value detectable by Phenolphthalein. In a strong acid and strong base titration where the equivalence
point is 7, the spike of pH around equivalence point is huge and all indicators at this range change

Still Alice Alzheimer s Disease

Still Alice Still Alice is about a well respected psychologist named Alice Howland diagnosed with
Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer s disease is described as a progressive, incurable disease that destroys
memory and important mental functions. Alice displayed many signs and symptoms of Alzheimer s
disease, such as mental decline, difficulty thinking and understanding, disorientation, poor
concentrating, agitation, forgetfulness, self care deficits, personality changes, getting lost and
wandering, and restlessness. Alice is smart and successful, but everything changes for the worse when
she gets diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease.

I was very surprised how much short term memory is greatly affected. While Alice was looking
through her computer, she stumbled onto a file titled Butterfly , a note that she wrote to herself. In the
note, it explained Alice is a great, special woman and if the disease has gotten progressively worse,
then it s time to commit suicide by swallowing a bottle of pills. The suicide attempt was unsuccessful
because Alice couldn t retain any of the instruction so she wasted a lot of time trying to following
direction. When she finally found the bottle, her caretaker came home and started her, which made her
spill the bottle of pills. Within seconds, Alice looks confused and forgot what she was trying to do.
Overall, the movie portrayed Alzheimer s disease at its best. The movie was able to list all the signs
and symptoms, genetic aspect, and the hardship on the patient, family, and friends. I was surprised that
Alice had difficulties completing simple sentences and tasks. I was able to experience Alzheimer s
disease through Alice and truly understand the difficulties she went through with her family, friends,

Child Custody Evaluation Essay
Child Custody Evaluation Each year about 1.2 million marriages end in divorce, and many divorcing
couples have children (Patel Jones, 2008). In the year 2006 more than 1.1 million children were living
with a parent who was divorced or separated. Though most parents face the challenges associated with
divorce or separation in a healthy and successful manner without high conflict interactions. However,
according to Patel and Jones about 10% of divorce cases involving children disagreement on custody
and visitation arrangements leads to litigation(2008). In these cases, it is often left to the court to make
decisions about custody, and several custody cases are referred to court appointed mental health
experts during the process. Patel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important that judges have accurate information about the family that allows them to make
decisions that will be in the best interests of the child. Mental health evaluations used in child custody
cases should be able to give family courts a thorough and unbiased assessment about the functionality
of a family and the child s best interests. Lee, Borelli and West (2011) state that best interests of the
child legal standard, custody evaluators rely on their assessment of the parent child relationships. A
counselor should be able to identify each parent s capacity to meet the needs of the child. A negative
aspect to the judge s decision is that it can result in the relocation of child with a parent which in turn
disturbing the child s familiar way of life(Kennedy, 2012). About 10% of divorcing families have
disagreements about custody that are significant enough to lead to court involvement about custody or
visitation because according to Lebow and Black (2012) these parents also typically exhibit skills
deficits in several areas. At the individual level, these parents often have difficulty understanding
another person s perspective and tend to focus on their own needs rather than on the needs of others.
There is a possibility that these parents almost always have extreme difficulties with communication
which ultimately leads to the court being involved.

Allison Bechdel s Fun Home
In Allison Bechdel s graphic memoir Fun Home, she uses a moment to moment transition to show the
transition of her father asking her a personal, disturbing question to her response and reaction to the
question. These two panels require little closure compared to other panels that Bechdel includes in her
memoir, which is evident because of the small time gap between the question and the answer. While
the transition between the two panels requires little closure with the scene itself, there is a lot of room
for interpretation involving Allision s thoughts and reaction to her father s question. The scene itself is
pretty obvious with what is happening with Allison and her father. He sees the way that his daughter is

Interpersonal Relationship With My Family
Practical Example of Theory My family happens to be deeply religious, conservative and often closed
minded about certain aspects of life. In other words, everything that they tend to support and believe
in as a family unit, tends to be something I can not personally agree with. As anyone can imagine, this
has deeply affected my interpersonal relationship with my family in a negative impact. As an adult, I
have come to my own conclusions about my personal beliefs about life and what those entail for
myself. These beliefs are usually the exact opposite of what I grew up with, much to the
disappointment of my family which has created a deep divide between us. This has probably affected
my relationship with my father the most, as he has always been the most outspoken about his
disappointment.
For my father this has been rather difficult to accept because to him, I have violated my family s
beliefs by turning my back on religion and wanting no part of it in my personal life. It is simply
something he can not comprehend, to him it means turning my back on my family and everything I
have known. Years ago when I was a teenager, I confided in him that I wanted nothing to do with the
church anymore and he chalked it up to teenage youth. Nowadays, my interpersonal relationship with
my father has been strained because he has finally understood that I had actually been serious all
along. In fact, when it was brought up again when I was an adult and when I had given him the same

The United States Energy Information Administration
From the moment we wake up in the morning and turn our alarm clock off, to the moment we turn the
lights off and fall asleep, we are using energy. Throughout the day an average person will use a cell
phone, a computer, a television, an oven or microwave, and many will ride in a car or bus: all of this
takes energy. Energy is even being used while we sleep to power the same alarm clock that wakes us
up each morning. Individuals in first world countries are large consumers of energy, but where does it
all come from? What powers most of our modern day conveniences? The United States Energy
Information Administration (EIA) estimates that as much as eighty two percent of the United State s
energy demand is met by using fossil fuels (Fossil Fuels), and in 2012, fossil fuels made up eighty
seven percent of the energy consumed worldwide (Gonzalez Lucky, 2013). What are fossil fuels then?
There is a common misconception that fossil fuels come from dead dinosaurs, and while this is not
actually true, fossil fuels do come from dead plans and animals, however they were dead long before
the dinosaurs roamed the earth (U.S. Department of Energy). The type of animal and plant, as well as
the varied combinations these could create, determine the type of fossil fuel that was formed (U.S.
Department of Energy): oil, natural gas, or coal. The EIA defines fossil fuels as concentrated organic
compounds found in the Earth s crust (Fossil Fuels). This means that fossil fuels are formed when

Health and social care professions have in common the concept of a duty of care toward their users.
This means that the wellbeing of the service user should be central to their work. All treatment given
must have a therapeutic benefit to the user or must be essential for saving life.
Service users should be given sufficient information about any treatment they are offered so that they
can make an informed decision about whether or not to take it. Information should include the benefits
and possible risks of the treatment, the likely duration of treatment and any financial costs. The service

Pride In Bhagavad-Gita And Antigone
Denzel Washington, in a film role, once said, The loudest one in the room is often the weakest one in
the room (CITATION). Pride can often force individuals into someone they are not. It can create a
persona unattainable due to the multitude of reasons, as laid out in the Bhagavad Gita and Antigone.
The Bhagavad Gita presented the principles that causes one s prideful nature to be destructive and
disparaging. While, Antigone gave the reader an example of an individual s prideful nature in relation
to the arrogance formulated in one s heart. The arrogance formulated in one s heart can lead to his or
her inevitable downfall. Evil s true form is in the pride that tarnishes a man s soul, based on Antigone
and Bhagavad Gita. In many different passages, Krishna provides lessons on the ways pride can
destroy a man s connection with God. The beliefs presented in the Bhagavad Gita indicated that
everything around in the world is a part of God. The panentheism of the world is separated when man
s belief is he or she is superior than those around them. From the instance an individual is fueled by
pride, the natural course of loneliness and insecurity begins. Cursed by the desire to feel superior, man
cannot connect to the world around him due to his chase for the unattainable. The isolation from this
can be detrimental to the soul, as the connect to God is severed. Krishna presents that statement here
while speaking to Arjuna, Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance these qualities
belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Prtha (CITATION). The notion that this trait, amongst
the many others, creates bondage rather than freedom, The transcendental qualities are conducive to
liberation, whereas the demonic qualities make for bondage... (CITATION). A person who is free from
pride is free from the mental shackles to always have the most. The mind is able to be unrestricted in
the cruel nature evil it brings forward. The tranquility the mind has is what Krishna was speaking
about. An individual does not carry himself higher than others, but does have self confidence. Once
man loses the things that he or she may pride themselves on, the feeling of bravado evaporates as

Environmental Pollution And Its Effects On The Environment
Environmental pollution is one of the biggest problems the world faces today. Pollution troubles
humans economically, physically, and everyday of our lives. The outbreak of diseases is linked to the
contamination of the environment; however, most people do not know about this problem. This fact
shows that increasing environmental pollution needs to be taken care of a soon as possible, not only
for the good of the environment, but also for the people that live in it. Although environmental
pollution can be caused by natural events such as forest fires and active volcanoes, use of the word
pollution generally implies that the contaminants have an anthropogenic source that is, a source
created by human activities ( Pollution. ). Many factors explain why environmental pollution has
become such a large issue in the world. Air and water pollution has been caused by the burning of
fossil fuels. Most of the rivers are polluted and ninety percent of urban water bodies are polluted. Half
of china does not have access to clean water. Regulations are passed to regulate pollution, but they are
not monitored. The Chinese government deals with the punishment of pollution, it spends two
hundred billion dollars each year on pollution problems (Desonie 35). However, if the people of the
world were to act on this problem, it would definitely help both the environment and the people. There

Essay about Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe The life of Edgar Allan Poe was as morbid and
melancholy as his works. After
the abandonment by his father and the disturbing death of his mother, both prominent
traveling actors, Edgar was reluctantly forced into orphanage. He was later taken into the
home of John Allan, a wealthy tobacco merchant. Their relationship was shaky, at best,
and the contention between the two would last until Allan s death, where his will left
nothing for Poe. Amidst these calamities, came only more distress. The death John

The parallelism of Poe s own personal
problems with those of the narrator in The Raven, and the repetitive verse by the raven,
makes the reader aware of Poe s prominent tone of melancholy. A strong device for the
melancholic tone is Poe s life experiences. The narrator s sorrow for the lost Lenore is
paralleled with Poe s own grief regarding the death of his wife. Confined in the chamber
are memories of her who had frequented it. These ghostly recollections bring out a state
of eager anticipation in the reader to know and be relieved of the bewilderment that the
narrator and consequently Poe himself are experiencing; the narrator ponders whether he
will see his wife in the afterlife.
After Virginnia s lingering death, Poe tried to relieve his grief by drinking. A
parallelism is formed in The Raven between the condescending actions of the raven
towards the narrator and the taunting of alcohol towards Poe. The raven condescends that
Poe will never see his lost love again when uttering, forget this lost Lenore, in line 84.
Alcohol taunts Poe into ceaseless depression and caused him to have a life long problem
with alcoholism, which eventually led to his death. In a similar manner to which

Robert Frost Explication Analysis
Poetry Explication Essay The poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was published in Robert
Frost s New Hampshire in 1924 (Pritchard). The poem is among the most easily recognizable and
familiar works written by Frost. On the surface, this poem is a short encounter at the edge of a snowy
forest. Perhaps its outer simplicity is what makes the poem stand out in the minds of readers. The
straightforward structure and balanced rhyme pattern make it easy to recite and the imagery Frost
evokes is both beautiful and engaging. However, this surface level is only a façade to the underlying
subject matter. As Ciardi puts it, the surface level events display ... the pretended simplicity of the

He also doesn t describe the physical traits or gender of the narrator (hereinafter referred to as male).
This is an attempt to make the situation more easily relatable to a large pool of readers representing
any errand as well as any person. As Ciardi puts it, The errand ... is left generalized in order the more
aptly to suggest any errand in life and, therefore, life itself (Ciardi 14). Ciardi goes on to examine the
man talked about in the poem. This man represents the village of mankind and thus tells us that the
narrator is divided or has chosen to divide himself from society at least for a short horse ride (Ciardi
14). This division is an important theme in the poem, instantly showing us that the reflection is a
highly personal experience for the narrator. The horse in the poem, on the other hand, is the narrator s
connection to reality. Ciardi goes so far as to call the horse the foil of the protagonist for disagreeing
with his actions demonstrated in the line My little horse must think it queer / To stop without a
farmhouse near (CITE). This horse has been subject to analysis by other critics as well, Virginia
Faulkner explains that the horse represents male sexual potency (Faulkner 560). Though not many
critics agree with Faulkner in the respect that the poem is dealing with an amatory adventure, the
sexual connotations of the horse still adhere to its connection with the narrator through the symbolism

No Good And Nobody Is All Evil
Nobody is all good and nobody is all evil. Throughout all history, whether it be in the United States or
somewhere else in the world, there has always been people who are infamous for unspeakable crimes
or for their tremendous acts of bravery. There has always been people who have seemed to be the
literal definition of good and evil and have always been made out like they were exactly that:
completely good or completely evil. It s easy to label a person like that, to ignore any of their other
actions that may contradict what the world knows them as, but that s the thing about labels; nobody
can truly fit completely under them. Even someone like Adolf Hitler was once upon a time an okay
person before he was completely driven by fear and bitterness to the point he actually attempted to
wipe out an entire group of people. The question is, if a person s actions were courageous or wicked
enough, should they only be defined by those actions? Someone like Nathan Bedford Forrest, who
was a racist his whole life, someone who was involved in the trading of slaves and even joined the Ku
Klux Klan after the war because he was so bitter about the defeat of the Confederacy; should he be
defined by only these hateful actions? The answer depends: because while no one is completely good
or completely evil like Adolf Hitler, Forrest believed that one group of people was superior to another;
and instead of silently hating, Forrest decided to take action and help fight for a cause that went

person thinks that they should have control and power above anything. The person is unable to
mentally realize how much damage they are doing to others and themselves.
To be specific on a certain type of people who has a NPD are narcissistic parents. Narcissistic parents
fall into two type of categories which damage their children. There is engulfing parents which mean
the parents are overly protective of their child and will ignore their child s age where there are no
boundaries between themselves and the child. This causes the child to be pushed away from the parent
or parents into not feeling trusted. For example the parent will go through emails or text messages.
Ignoring parents ignore their child and doesn t care or share interest in their child which makes the

YTM AND HPR
Yield to maturity (YTM) reflects the return required and set by the market on the assumption that the
bond is held to maturity. In equilibrium, it is also the return that investors can expect to earn over the
life of the bond. Holding Period Return (HPR) is the expected return over a future period, and is not
based on the assumption that the bond is held to maturity. SIMILARITIES    Both expressed as
annualised returns (not effective rates) Use the settlement price as cost base Total returns accounting
for both the coupon interest component and the capital gain/loss component
DIFFERENCES    YTM is observed and set by the market, HRP is not YTM assumes that
coupon interests are all invested at the same rate as quoted YTM, HPR allows for different
reinvestment interest rates received at different times YTM assumes that bond is held to maturity,
HPR assumes that bond is to be sold before maturity
CALCULATING HPR HRP is used for comparing the expected return among alternate investments
over the same predetermined holding period. However, to accomplish this task, future interest rates for
different lengths are required.

My Culture And Culture
Age In my culture depending on how old you are is how others in the family will treat you. For
example elders such as our abuelitos are the ones that get the most respect. We treat them with great
respect and love since they are much wiser and in some cases are the ones who will defend you from
your parents. The little kids are over protected especially by moms. Wherever they go they have to be
accompanied by someone older than them. Once you start hitting the adolescence age or the pre adult
age is when you start getting more trust and responsibility from the other adults. Gender Gender for
me is unfair in my culture. If you are born a girl you will be much more protected than the boys. For
example my brother can go wherever he likes at whatever time he likes and with whoever he wants,
but for me I can not do that. I often ask my parents why that is and their answer is because you are a
girl and you face more dangers than a guy would. I understand this and this is sadly true, girls do face
much more risks than guys do, but I still think it s unfair. Girls should be able to go out just like any
guy would. Religion Religion for me is very important. Since I was a little girl my parents have taught
me to be religious. Religion for me is to have faith that everything will be alright and that God has a
purpose for all of us. I have been Baptized into the Catholic church and have done all the sacraments
required, such as my First Communion and Confirmation.

Proctor Argument Essay
As defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, a proctor is one appointed to supervise students at an
examination (Merriam Webster.org, n.d). In the academic community, proctored exams are considered
the optimum solution. Once a student takes an examination under the supervision of a proctor, the
expertise has several advantages. Proctored exams validate the integrity of a student s entire transcript.
once a final examination is run by an objective proctor, it lends significant credibility to a student s
incontestable mastery and ability of the topic. When a student takes proctored exams, the expertise

Mother and child relations are portrayed in our factual life, which affect the child, and it s up bringing. Some relations are very solicitous and create a greater bond between each other, while some do not. The authors Federico Garcia Lorca and Laura Esquivel implement characters with relations of mother and child to show the characteristics of the mothers through their relations with their children, and form the plot. These relations and feelings between the two books Blood Wedding and Like Water For Chocolate connect to our real world. The qualities of a mother are expressed, through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrary, Laura Esquivel portrays Mama Elena as a widow, who does not allow Tita to marry anyone, as long as Mama Elena lives; as per the De La Garza tradition. Mama Elena enforces her do all the chores in the house and treats her like a housekeeper. For Mama Elena, tradition was above her daughter, which obstructs Tita from being loved by her mother. Thus, this shows the affection between mother and child in the two books was opposite, which hints the audience the character of Mama Elena to be a selfish, stern and a ruthless mother, while the Bridegroom s Mother to be an affectionate, tender woman. Both the authors, Federico Garcia Lorca and Laura Esquivel show deep affection in between the mother child bond. In Like Water For Chocolate, Tita nurses and feeds Rosaura s child, without being a mother, which builds a mother and child relation between the two. Similarly, such affection is also portrayed when Leonardo s wife sings a lullaby to her child, to put him to sleep. Thus, there is common affection in the books, to enable the reader/audience understand the real connection between mother and child. Both the mothers are possessive and care about their child to different extents. In Blood Wedding, the Mother lets her Husband and Leonardo s son leave, which causes their death through Felix. • 5. Drug Testing Welfare Since the early War on Drugs and the welfare reform of the 1990s, those who receive public benefits have been under the microscope of drug warriors and policy makers. Those who are proponents of drug testing say that substance abuse and addiction can interfere with the ability to obtain or maintain jobs. Drug testing can help welfare recipients prepare for the job market by getting them clean and ready for the job application process (Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), 2011). Drug use and abuse can also contribute to child abuse and neglect (Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), 2013). The special need of the state must be sufficiently important to both suppress the normal Fourth Amendment requirement of individualized suspicion and offset the individual s privacy interest. However, if the court finds no special state need, ...the search is unreasonable (p.570). Both Michigan and Florida were determined to have no special needs fit to blanket test all welfare applicants and thus the drug test programs in both states were halted. In Marchwinski v. Howard, the case regarding Michigan s drug test policy, it was shown that several widely known groups were opposed to drug testing welfare recipients, especially random testing or blanket testing as in Michigan and Florida. These groups were the the following: the American Public Health Association, the National Association of Social Workers, National Assocation of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, National Health Law Project, National Association on Alcohol, Drugs, and Disability, Legal Action Center, National Welfare Rights Union, and the American Civil Liberties Union, among others (ACLU, ... • 6. Jonathan Swift Comparison Aldous Huxley and Jonathan Swift both have a different way of bringing society s attention to the real problems of the world. Both authors utilize the New Historicism lense as an influence to each of their pieces of literature. From 1729 to 1932, there were plenty of historical conflicts that could help each author make society want to change the current problems that they were facing. In 1932, Huxley satirizes the sexual freedom and moral decay of the Roaring 20s in Brave New World. In 1729, Swift satirizes the rising problem of overpopulation in Ireland in his short story, A Modest Proposal . Over population resulted in a great famine and it affected most of the people living in Ireland. A popular theory about overpopulation by Thomas Malthus influenced Swift s short story and Huxley might have used it to contribute to his novel. In Brave New World, there were many historical commonalities that could have potentially inspired Huxley. Huxley wrote Brave New World following the Roaring 20s and during this time period, jazz music was making its debut and people viewed it as sexual music. Although Huxley was very cautious and often chose to stay away from ideologies, he used Brave New World to satirize how the citizens threw out relationships and exchanged them for sex. Characters forgot their morals and viewed sex as recreational instead of reproductive. Jazz music was very influential and one very vital instrument to jazz music is the saxophone. • 7. Parking Problems At The New Residence Halls Parking on campus is a recurring problem throughout the years, but the most recent of these problems has evolved into a catastrophe for and not so much for others. As the fall term came into place, more and more parking was taken away for the new residence halls. Students regularly admit to hoping other students would hurry and drop some of their classes, or that the students will go ahead and stop coming to lectures so there is more parking available and less of a burden. However, the burden of circling parking lots and the never ending loop of frustrating continues on for the fall term and more is to come with the lack of parking the campus wishes to offer. The OU Daily has released statements in articles concerning the matter. The new residence halls will also provide a parking garage or parking lot in which has a capacity of 1200 1300 parking spots. This is a nice edition for the lack of parking, but the new residence hall took the place of an old parking lot which held the capacity of 500 600 parking spots. Yes, the parking is nearly doubled, but what good will that doubled number do in comparison to the number of students (approximately twenty two times the quantity of parking spaces provided in said lot). The new residence halls may further establish a slightly more extensive parking lot than previously seen on campus, but the couple hundred more spots available is minuscule in comparison to the quantity of students and faculty members at the university. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel that the fourteen members of chamber orchestra and the two vocalists did an outstanding job. This piece was well put together. I loved the harmony that was brought forth between the orchestra and the vocalists. The two vocalists a tenor known as Paul Groves and a soprano known as Anna Larson, did a beautiful job staying in tune. The way that their voices went back and forth in harmony was just beautiful. Although I enjoyed both pieces of music I really enjoyed the works of Gustav Mahler and his piece Lied von der Erde. This piece is rich in drama. I feel that the texture used is this song is imitative polyphony. I feel that there are various parts in this song that use the similar melodies. I feel that the harmony between the two vocalists were right on with each other and the orchestra. You can hear the brass instruments in the very beginning of the songs then the strings, wind instruments along with the piano and keyboards begin to make their entrance. They come together very strong but in a peaceful way at first. Towards the middle of the song the tempo and rhythm really picks up (it seems as if all of their emotions are bursting out) then it slowly begins to drop back to slower movements. You can really hear the strings during this time. But surprisingly enough just when you think the song is going to end boom your hit again. This song keeps you on the edge of your ... With more and more trees falling under the determined chainsaws and axe blows of illegal loggers and soil loss from tenuous irrigation methods, South American governments have a rising concern to protect its ecosystem. But an unusual, and equally controversial, solution came not within the restraining bounds of the country borders, but from the efforts of the American multi millionaire and philanthropic conservationist, Douglas Tompkins. Concerned about the ecology of South America, Tompkins purchased sumptuous strips of forest land to shield it from the venomous ways of poachers and illegal loggers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best solution to this imminent conflict would be for Tompkins to expropriate a sizeable chunk of his land to national conservatories to ensure the public had sufficient access to public road, ancestral grounds, and water and mineral rights. However, he should also maintain a steadfast determination to keep most of his land as long as necessary to ensure it has recovered from past human interactions and see it delivered safely into the hands of Argentine conservatories. As a whole, his campaign to conserve the environment has been successful and beneficial both to him and the ecosystem. In culmination, Tompkins, as a conservational philanthropist, has inaugurated his conservational efforts to accumulate a sizeable portion of foreign nations. Due to lawmakers and local residents rising concern of his control of natural resources and his property blocking public transportation routes, he must devise a solution that will satisfy both conservational and public demands. Thus, the most effective and equitable solution would be to sequester most of his land to local conservation efforts, so as to ensure the government had adequate control over its natural resources and access to ancestral ... Cryptography Essay Abstract With the expansion in the field of computers and highly technically advanced communication mediums like internet there is a necessity to secure the transmission of data. The information that is transmitted over the internet is a highly sensitive and critical information which needs to be protected from adversaries, hackers, and eavesdroppers etc. who bypass the existing security and perform dangerous actions. Cryptography is the art and science of keeping the data transfer secure from adversaries, hackers and eavesdroppers. Cryptography and its algorithm forms one of the essential components to the security mechanisms in order to safeguard the data transmissions and data storage. Without the use of cryptography the emails and information can be intercepted without any authorized access. After researching academic papers related to cryptography I understand the basic working of DES algorithm and the cracking of the DES algorithm by brute force technology. I would like to explore the cryptographic algorithms, the flaws associated with the algorithm. In this paper, I will discuss about the DES algorithm and deficiency with the DES algorithm. I will discuss the existing problem with double DES algorithm and the basics about the Triple DES and the problem with respect to the Triple DES. A brief overview of AES has been provided. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1, with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan. Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1. So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Pride can often force individuals into someone they are not. It can create a persona unattainable due to the multitude of reasons, as laid out in the Bhagavad Gita and Antigone. The Bhagavad Gita presented the principles that causes one s prideful nature to be destructive and disparaging. While, Antigone gave the reader an example of an individual s prideful nature in relation to the arrogance formulated in one s heart. The arrogance formulated in one s heart can lead to his or her inevitable downfall. Evil s true form is in the pride that tarnishes a man s soul, based on Antigone and Bhagavad Gita. In many different passages, Krishna provides lessons on the ways pride can destroy a man s connection with God. The beliefs presented in the Bhagavad Gita indicated that everything around in the world is a part of God. The panentheism of the world is separated when man s belief is he or she is superior than those around them. From the instance an individual is fueled by pride, the natural course of loneliness and insecurity begins. Cursed by the desire to feel superior, man cannot connect to the world around him due to his chase for the unattainable. The isolation from this can be detrimental to the soul, as the connect to God is severed. Krishna presents that statement here while speaking to Arjuna, Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Prtha (CITATION). The notion that this trait, amongst the many others, creates bondage rather than freedom, The transcendental qualities are conducive to liberation, whereas the demonic qualities make for bondage... (CITATION). A person who is free from pride is free from the mental shackles to always have the most. The mind is able to be unrestricted in the cruel nature evil it brings forward. The tranquility the mind has is what Krishna was speaking about. An individual does not carry himself higher than others, but does have self confidence. Once man loses the things that he or she may pride themselves on, the feeling of bravado evaporates as quickly as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pollution troubles humans economically, physically, and everyday of our lives. The outbreak of diseases is linked to the contamination of the environment; however, most people do not know about this problem. This fact shows that increasing environmental pollution needs to be taken care of a soon as possible, not only for the good of the environment, but also for the people that live in it. Although environmental pollution can be caused by natural events such as forest fires and active volcanoes, use of the word pollution generally implies that the contaminants have an anthropogenic source that is, a source created by human activities ( Pollution. ). Many factors explain why environmental pollution has become such a large issue in the world. Air and water pollution has been caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Most of the rivers are polluted and ninety percent of urban water bodies are polluted. Half of china does not have access to clean water. Regulations are passed to regulate pollution, but they are not monitored. The Chinese government deals with the punishment of pollution, it spends two hundred billion dollars each year on pollution problems (Desonie 35). However, if the people of the world were to act on this problem, it would definitely help both the environment and the people. • 34. Essay about Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe The life of Edgar Allan Poe was as morbid and melancholy as his works. After the abandonment by his father and the disturbing death of his mother, both prominent traveling actors, Edgar was reluctantly forced into orphanage. He was later taken into the home of John Allan, a wealthy tobacco merchant. Their relationship was shaky, at best, and the contention between the two would last until Allan s death, where his will left nothing for Poe. Amidst these calamities, came only more distress. The death John Allan s wife, the woman who cared for Poe after his mother died, and a large amount of debts acquired from gambling that forced him into early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parallelism of Poe s own personal problems with those of the narrator in The Raven, and the repetitive verse by the raven, makes the reader aware of Poe s prominent tone of melancholy. A strong device for the melancholic tone is Poe s life experiences. The narrator s sorrow for the lost Lenore is paralleled with Poe s own grief regarding the death of his wife. Confined in the chamber are memories of her who had frequented it. These ghostly recollections bring out a state of eager anticipation in the reader to know and be relieved of the bewilderment that the narrator and consequently Poe himself are experiencing; the narrator ponders whether he will see his wife in the afterlife. After Virginnia s lingering death, Poe tried to relieve his grief by drinking. A parallelism is formed in The Raven between the condescending actions of the raven towards the narrator and the taunting of alcohol towards Poe. The raven condescends that

  • 36. Robert Frost Explication Analysis Poetry Explication Essay The poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was published in Robert Frost s New Hampshire in 1924 (Pritchard). The poem is among the most easily recognizable and familiar works written by Frost. On the surface, this poem is a short encounter at the edge of a snowy forest. Perhaps its outer simplicity is what makes the poem stand out in the minds of readers. The straightforward structure and balanced rhyme pattern make it easy to recite and the imagery Frost evokes is both beautiful and engaging. However, this surface level is only a façade to the underlying subject matter. As Ciardi puts it, the surface level events display ... the pretended simplicity of the narrative, suggesting that Frost intends a deeper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also doesn t describe the physical traits or gender of the narrator (hereinafter referred to as male). This is an attempt to make the situation more easily relatable to a large pool of readers representing any errand as well as any person. As Ciardi puts it, The errand ... is left generalized in order the more aptly to suggest any errand in life and, therefore, life itself (Ciardi 14). Ciardi goes on to examine the man talked about in the poem. This man represents the village of mankind and thus tells us that the narrator is divided or has chosen to divide himself from society at least for a short horse ride (Ciardi 14). This division is an important theme in the poem, instantly showing us that the reflection is a highly personal experience for the narrator. The horse in the poem, on the other hand, is the narrator s connection to reality. Ciardi goes so far as to call the horse the foil of the protagonist for disagreeing with his actions demonstrated in the line My little horse must think it queer / To stop without a farmhouse near (CITE). This horse has been subject to analysis by other critics as well, Virginia Faulkner explains that the horse represents male sexual potency (Faulkner 560). Though not many critics agree with Faulkner in the respect that the poem is dealing with an amatory adventure, the sexual connotations of the horse still adhere to its connection with the narrator through the symbolism of ... Throughout all history, whether it be in the United States or somewhere else in the world, there has always been people who are infamous for unspeakable crimes or for their tremendous acts of bravery. There has always been people who have seemed to be the literal definition of good and evil and have always been made out like they were exactly that: completely good or completely evil. It s easy to label a person like that, to ignore any of their other actions that may contradict what the world knows them as, but that s the thing about labels; nobody can truly fit completely under them. Even someone like Adolf Hitler was once upon a time an okay person before he was completely driven by fear and bitterness to the point he actually attempted to wipe out an entire group of people. The question is, if a person s actions were courageous or wicked enough, should they only be defined by those actions? Someone like Nathan Bedford Forrest, who was a racist his whole life, someone who was involved in the trading of slaves and even joined the Ku Klux Klan after the war because he was so bitter about the defeat of the Confederacy; should he be defined by only these hateful actions? The answer depends: because while no one is completely good or completely evil like Adolf Hitler, Forrest believed that one group of people was superior to another; and instead of silently hating, Forrest decided to take action and help fight for a cause that went ... • 42. My Culture And Culture Age In my culture depending on how old you are is how others in the family will treat you. For example elders such as our abuelitos are the ones that get the most respect. We treat them with great respect and love since they are much wiser and in some cases are the ones who will defend you from your parents. The little kids are over protected especially by moms. Wherever they go they have to be accompanied by someone older than them. Once you start hitting the adolescence age or the pre adult age is when you start getting more trust and responsibility from the other adults. Gender Gender for me is unfair in my culture. If you are born a girl you will be much more protected than the boys. For example my brother can go wherever he likes at whatever time he likes and with whoever he wants, but for me I can not do that. I often ask my parents why that is and their answer is because you are a girl and you face more dangers than a guy would. I understand this and this is sadly true, girls do face much more risks than guys do, but I still think it s unfair. Girls should be able to go out just like any guy would. Religion Religion for me is very important. Since I was a little girl my parents have taught me to be religious. Religion for me is to have faith that everything will be alright and that God has a purpose for all of us. I have been Baptized into the Catholic church and have done all the sacraments required, such as my First Communion and Confirmation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
