The skill of Translation

Essay on The Myth of Sisyphus
The Myth of Sisyphus Sisyphus is the absurd hero. This man, sentenced to ceaselessly rolling a
rock to the top of a mountain and then watching it roll back down, is the epitome of the absurd
hero according to Camus. In retelling the Myth of Sisyphus, Camus is able to create an extremely
powerful image which sums up the intellectual discussion which comes before it in the book. We
are told that Sisyphus is the absurd hero as much through his passions as through his torture. His
scorn of the gods, his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in
which the whole being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. (p.89). Sisyphus is conscious of
his troubles , and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these essays Camus looks the problem of suicide. In a shocking, unnerving manner he opens
with the bold statement that: There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is
suicide. (p. 3). He goes on to discover if suicide is a real answer to the human who is unhappy
with life. Or if life is worth living now that god is dead? The discussion begins and continues not
as a metaphysical cobweb but as a well reasoned statement based on a way of knowing which
Camus holds is the only epistemology we have at our command. We know only two things: This
heart within me I can feel, and I judge that it exists. This world I can touch, and I likewise judge
that it exists. There ends all my knowledge, and the rest is construction. (p. 14) With these as the
basic certainties of the human condition, Camus argues that there is no meaning to life. He
disapproves of the many philosophers who have played on words and pretended to believe that
refusing to grant a meaning to life necessarily leads to declaring that it is not worth living. (p.7)
Life has no absolute meaning. In spite of the human s irrational nostalgia for unity, for absolutes,
for a definite order and meaning to the not me of the universe, no such meaning exists in the silent,
indifferent universe. Between this yearning for meaning and eternal verities and the actual condition

The Between Liberty And The State
Within the study of legal philosophy, few scholars have been able to understand the dangers arising
from the complex relationship between liberty and the state to the same extent as Lord Acton.
Though mainly unpublished prior to his death, Acton s writings provoke thought surrounding
power struggles and conflicting interests in societies. It has become clearer over time that
inequality, whether institutionalised or not, ultimately provides the foundation of modern societies.
In order to counteract this and facilitate stability amongst nations, particularly in the prevention of
anarchy, many support the view that there is an inherent need to restrict the complete exercise of
free will, be it powers possessed by a public authority, or at an individual level. The principle of
self determination in the context of the state sovereignty , that being the right of a nation to conduct
itself in the absence of external influence, has assisted in alleviating some of the burdens placed
upon the human race. The state routinely exercises sovereignty over its inhabitants and distinct
territory to establish control, and in an ideal world should render a society free from oppression
from both by the state, and amongst individuals. Though the struggle to obtain liberty had
underpinned the existence of modern nations, disagreement as to its nature and scope has created a
variety of distinct perspectives regarding the limits which ought to be placed on our personal
freedoms. To wholly

Amateur Genealog
Was it an ominous secret that needed to be uncovered, a truth that needed vindication, or simply a
fabricated tale initiated by an uncle whose reality had been dimmed by passage of time? For years,
the now deceased uncle had insisted the family surname was not correct and was equally as
persistent that the familyname should be another. It didn t help that when immediate family
members were asked, they either didn t want to discuss it, or pleaded having no knowledge about
the subject. After so many years, could the real truth be uncovered?
How do amateur genealogists find connection, or in some cases, disconnection to people? Proving
the uncle wrong may have no impact, but proving him correct could affect several generations. Is it

Our family genealogist had made a common mistake, one that many people make and have to
acknowledge at a later date. With the availability of computer records, he had gone directly to the
computer for the fastest, and what he thought to be the easiest methods of building a family tree.
Our genealogist found out that that is not always true. Amateur genealogists skip over some of the
best methods for gathering evidence. Genealogy is a field in which older is better and leg work is
important. Begin with what you already know and then search in your community. Spread out from
there. Don t be shy about asking questions and keeping meticulous notes on the answers. The
smallest detail may become the clue to unraveling a mystery later on. Genealogists should talk to as
many older family members as possible. Unlike immediate family members, the older generation is
usually harboring an abundance of knowledge concerning past generations. Begin by engaging
them in conversations about their youth, their family, social issues and norms before asking
questions. Always listen attentively for important clues as they may drop valuable information to
you that seems relatively unimportant to them. Use resources like the old photos, Bibles, attic
trunks and other family heirlooms hidden in the attic or basement; they can contain important
information concerning family. Only after scouring hardcopies of one s personal resources, and
after making meticulous notes and charts, should one branch out. Computers are a great tool for
genealogical research, but they should be used in conjunction with other resources. Our genealogist
found that had he been more aggressive in his community search and asked more questions, he
may have found answers sooner. While it is recommended that one begin with a single surname,
family or individual; don t be afraid to branch out. Branching out to the siblings of his 2nd great
grandfather s siblings may have yielded the clues

Syrian Refugees Should Be Banned
Why should I as an African American be alarmed by the Muslim Ban or welcome the Syrian
Refugees into the United States? Many people fear America only getting worse under Trump s
administration, so if that was the case would these Muslim majority countries accept us African
Americans? Keep in mind that the United Statesis not the only country that has rejected refugees
from Syria in recent years. Numerous countries in Europe and the Middle Easthave refused to
accept what would undoubtedly become a burden to any country. In my opinion this is not a
Muslim ban as the media like to refer to it as. There are countless factors involved and it does not
simply boil down to religion. If this order was based on religion, then the visa ban would... Show

The UK and other wealthy nations in Europe have resettled less than 2% of Syrian refugees.
Only around 5,500 Syrians had been granted asylum or refugee status in Britain since the conflict
began in 2011. The United States should not be criticized for doing what every other country
should be doing, which is looking out for our interests. Especially when other wealthy nations and
even majority Muslim neighbors to Syria refuse to accept Syrian refugees. I know this is might be
an unpopular opinion or viewpoint but I was not as outraged as other African Americans about this
executive order. There is this rhetoric that I should be equally as alarmed as the groups that are
being affected by this policy. That while it may not affect me directly, somehow after targeting
illegal immigrants and Muslim immigrants, African Americans are next in line . This does not
make much sense to me because in my opinion, being Black in America means we are always
under attack. This has been nonstop since my ancestors step foot off the slave ship, and throughout
the years both the Hispanic and Arab/middle eastern communities have been silent. Why should I

Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence
ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE:
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation
of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands
of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We
live in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn t be
let out. We know it s happening, and even hear or see the events. But who s taking action?
I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic?
Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we re shocked at
first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the
struggle, and a step to save our nation.
And yes, I m not anyone special, I don t study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence
myself. But I m here to tell a story. I m here to make a change. And I m here to encourage all of
you to do the same.
I m going to share an experience I had. Something that I ve regretted and hated myself for since,
knowing that help could ve been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a
family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened
but she just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the
bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go
lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you,
sometimes the people who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the
case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of
domestic abuse.
Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself.
Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can t even begin the fathom how
anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant
other and act like everything is fine. And to the victims who have to live

career opportunity for him to excel in baseball. Shoeless Joe traversed a long way from the
vicinity of poverty, evolving into a famous figure in the field of baseball. Quite clearly, Shoeless
Joe s involvement with the Mill Baseball teams allowed him to acquire an interest in baseball in
the first place. However, to pursue both wealth and his interests, Jackson needed to make

What Ford is saying is that the students just don t really care to complete the course and just
quit. These students are very unmotivated to complete the course. Ford goes on to say when
talking about an algebra class offered online, 90 percent of those coming directly from high
school failed the course (134). Early Ford mentioned that this algebra class was offered for 150
dollars. Not only are the classes inexpensive but they allow students to take the class whenever,
whenever, if ever.
One of the biggest concerns about online education today is something that Thomas Friedman
calls the ambition gap (354). The new American generations are becoming less motivated and
less ambitious than the rest of the world. Not only is sending american jobs to other countries
cheaper but the individuals are much more productive and willing to do the work. Education
Online would be enabling these next generation of students laziness. In a Ted Talks seminar,

Time being means temporary action, which will definitely change. For example, life is time
being. We never know what will happen to us in the next seconds, hours, days, months, or even

Besides that, the fish symbolizes Nao s spirt and desire of freedom like a swimming fish in the

mystery. When Ruth is looking for Pesto in the forest, the crows warn (P.331) Ruth to stay away,
which connote the death of Pesto. Likewise, the author, Ozeki, uses the crows appearance to imply
that Jiko s death day is near future. The cat, Pesto, is a trouble maker. He is always doing bad things
like leaving the squirrel organs on the sidewalk of Ruth and Oliver s bed room (P.9). The author
uses Pesto s behavior to imply that Oliver is also a naughty person. Because Pesto and Oliver are a
team, wherever Oliver dose or go, Pesto follows (P.9).
The owner, Haruki #2, of these belongings, the diary, the letters, and the watch, died in suicidal

Accused murderer Belva Gaertner, 1924 (National Geographic, N.D)
Sequins, glamour, sex and murder sounds like the stuff movies are made of but the award winning,
longest running American musical Chicago is based on the true murder cases of Belva Gaertner and
Beulah Annan who were accused of killing their partners under the influence of alcohol and Jazz
music in 1924. Maurine Watkins made Chicago what it is today. Maurine was a former reporter
who followed the murder trials of Gaertner and Annan; her inquisitive mindset into the way the
women were prosecuted sparked her to write the play Chicago in 1926. From then on the show
has gone to Broadway in 1974 and revived in 1996. In 2002 it was then turned into a movie
casting major stars such as Catherine Zita Jones. Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe
celebrity who is arrested for murdering her lover whilst trying to convince her soft, pushover of
a husband, Amos, to lie for her. Roxie is sent to the Cook County Jail where she meets her idol, a
performer and double murderess Velma Kelly. Billy Flynn, a greedy sex driven lawyer is to
represent both of the murderesses, but the stakes rise rapidly as the two women fight for the
spotlight of newspaper headlines. The ageless music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and

The Failure Of Freedom In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
For the past 20 years, Americans have watched as the news displayed more and more headlines
about massacres, scandals, and acts of terror. In addition, pictures of rallies and protests, similar
to Edelson s portrayal of the protests in Berkeley, California, have flooded the newspapers. All
of these recurring events instill a strong sense of fear into the American public. If America touts
itself as being the land of the free and the home of the brave, why do its inhabitants feel
powerless and vulnerable? Social critic, H.L. Mencken states that the average man does not
want to be free, and behind the facade of freedom, he simply wants to be safe. Through examples
in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, the overbearing weight which fear has on one s life is extremely
evident. In addition, Robert J. Samuelson s support of Trump s proposal for a wall running along
the Mexican American border in his article Yes, Build the Wall, is a clear example of the extent
to which Americans in contemporary society are willing to go to protect themselves from any
possible threat. Although the average man craves the freedom to live according to his own
wishes, one is willing to ultimately give up those desires in order to live in a bubble of safety,
suppressing any fragment of fear. Although one is inclined to live a sheltered life in the bubble that
is safety, one truly craves freedom. Freedom is the one of the core values on which this country
was built. The founding fathers who formed

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Federalism
Federalism is restricted that governments decide to take care of the issue of administering
substantial populaces and different societies. Federalism lives up to expectations by separating its
power and responsibility, instead of a unitary government, in which the focal government controls
everything. Federalists convictions could be better portrayed as nationalist. The Federalists were
instrumental in 1787 in forming the new US Constitution, which fortified the national government
to the detriment. The Anti Federalists contradicted the US s ratification Constitution; however they

Nationals of different areas may have diverse yearnings, ethnicity and take after distinctive
societies. The focal government can at times ignore these distinctions and receive policies which
take into account the greater part. This is the place the local government ventures in. Privileges of

The Architecture Of Gothic Literature And The Romantic Era
Today s literature and the way is expressed is greatly influenced by the literature of the Romantic
Era which the Gothic literature had part on. The Gothic Literature is build by how the authors
convey the feelings of horrors to the readers through the imagination of the reader which can be
expanded through the reading. Gothic Literature is strongly influenced by the architecture of
haunted places, which gives off the aura of horror and terrorin the reading in order to give these
feelings to the readers. Although many things come to play in the architecture of the Gothic
literature, doors are an essential way to gives off this aura, where doors lead to uncertain places
which unexpected things can happen at anytime; examples of this kind are Ann Radcliffe s
work The Romance of the Forest and Horace Walpole s work The Castle of Otranto . Both stories
contain characters that experience the thrill of entering new places that are lead by an unusual
door, which gives the readers clues at what kind of feelings this type of literature is based. An
example in The Romance of the Forest is when Adeline is curious about what the door that she

Evaluation Essay On Corvettes
Abstract
This paper is an evaluative look at why the Chevrolet Corvette is one of the greatest sports cars
in the world. Sports cars can be judged in three areas; cost, performance, and comfort, each area
will be evaluated as to why these criteria are important, with examples shown to for definition. The
Corvette will be shown how it compares in regards to the measurements, and in some cases
exceeds them. Showing why it should be considered a great sports car
The Chevrolet Corvette: A great sports car
The Chevrolet Corvette has been regarded as the best all around sports car by many, while it is not
as fast as some cars, nor has the handling of a purpose built race car, looking at it in the areas of

Stopping, just as important as acceleration the ability to slow or stop quickly and safely are
important traits of performance, this can be indicated by braking distance from a certain speed,
where a shorter stopping distance is more desirable measure of performance. The Corvettes
performance shows that it fits the great sports car mold. Speed, power and the ability to hug the
road, are all part of the experience of driving a truly great sports car. The Corvette delivers in all
these areas, it has a 0 60 MPH time of less than 5 seconds, and a time of slightly less than 14
seconds in the quarter mile. In the 525 foot slalom test an average speed of 47.9 mph was
obtained. On the skid pad the Corvette is able to obtain 0.96 lateral g s (Stewart, 2007). The
Corvette s stopping power is noted in its ability to come to a complete stop from 60 miles per
hour in only 125 feet (Mueller, 1998). These performance measures may not be used in everyday
driving, but the ability to stop quickly in an emergency situation is apparent, as is having enough
acceleration to merge onto a busy highway, with the performance the Corvette has, these everyday
tasks can be accomplished effortlessly and safely.
Comfort, when most people think of older sports cars, comfort is not one of the things that come to
mind. Small, no top, hard to steer, loud, these are the things that older cars such as the first
generation Corvettes, the Porsche 550 Spyder, known as the car

Merits of Yakuzas
The yakuza a family of organized crime that is complicated, hierarchical, underground and
extremely influential in both the Private and the Public sphere, is unique to Japan. It is common
knowledge that there exists an underworld in every country. The Yakuza, the significant part of
Japan s underworld however carries along unique characteristics, which makes it arguably a crucial
part of what makes up the Japanese society. This essay seeks to substantiate the claim that Yakuzas,
despite its definition of being a criminal organization, plays an important role in the Japanese
history and society.
Firstly, the Yakuzas plays a role in the Japanese society as they can be seen as a kind of ambivalent

Till today, the government is fully aware of their presence and their members, but have not banned
the yakuza. The government have instead recognized their right to exist and kept them in hand with
strict laws. The 1991 Anti Yakuza Law is classiп¬
Ѓed as an executive law, rather than a justice law.
Hence, The Yakuza will be punished only if they breach the orders under the law.(Shikata, 2006,
PG 419).
The Yakuzas are also well established in the corporate world. Protection of businesses by the
yakuza is very common, more so in the past however. Companies pay yojimbodai2 to the yakuza in
exchange for protection services.
It is worthy to note the fact that companies sought the Yakuzas protection willingly. For instance,
the entertainment industry seeks protection to reduce the threat of disruption to their operating
environment by competitors or rowdy customers. Trucking and construction industries are
dependent on this protection to prevent delayed, damaged goods in transit due to the highly
competitive industry. (Hill, 2003, 96). Evidently, businesses are the ones who are actively seeking
yakuza protection instead of finding it thrust upon them.
To conclude this essay, the presence of the Yazuka as outcasts of the society acts as a social cloth
that binds much of Japan together. In essence, the yakuza is more than what they seem on the
surface. Furthermore, despite the presence

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town
the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the
youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you
might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s
revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different
projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has
grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to
host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not
best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new
sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting
this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team
stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because
the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would
rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The
next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel

A Replication of the Stroop Effect
A Replication of the Stroop Effect

Abstract
The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink
color of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated
whether object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers
are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three
experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore
words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. The words
were congruent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled
and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled
process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is
shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the
Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead,
they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative
degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed.
Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been
assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively
fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We
can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes
automatic and effortless to us.

A baseball team and a cell are actually very much alike if you think about it the right way. A cell
has many different functions and structures such as a baseball team. A cell wall may be used as
the baseball fields fence because it maintains the players structure, or were the players stand. A
cell membrane is much like the outfielders and catcher because they protect anything from going

How Enron Was A Company
Enron was a company that was known by many people and corporation not only in the United
States but also around the world. It grew to be one of the largest companies, so as imaged a lot
of people were affected by the fall of the company. Over 210000 employees lost there jobs without
even knowing what was coming to them and what was going on behind the doors by the people
who were running the company. Apart from losing their job, their form of income for their families,
they also lost any money that they had invested in shares of the company and their pension funds,
because the company encouraged their employees to invest their money in its own shares and also
closer to the end they wanted their employees to invest even more money.
Good business decisions are based in financial statements that are prepared by the accounting firms

called GAAP (Generally accepted accounting principles), GAAP provides guidelines and rules
which companies use when preparing their financials statements so that all company are on the

Argument Against a Ban on Boxing Essay
Argument Against a Ban on Boxing
The entertaining sport of boxing, an athletic event consisting of numerous health conflictions, has
been receiving some heat from legal and medical advocates, yet Some of the qualities that have
open boxing to attack have, at the same time, been its salvation (Sammons 235). Boxing, which has
been in existence and evolved from other forms of fighting longer than this country has been
established, is a skill, talent, an ambition, and for most professional fighters, a love. Professional
boxing, like virtually any physical recreation, is performed so that there are health risks, yet it is

The problem has slowly evolved from a national to an international conflict. An increased death and
brain damage rate triggered this worthless action towards the removal of professional boxing. This
was just temporary.
Slight changes within league rules, such as weight class regulations and softening of boxing
gloves, soon decreased the already low health damaging rates back to legal standards. Anybody
who believes that there should be a complete elimination of the sport really needs to put things in
perspective.
In terms of numbers, I am almost one hundred percent certain that the number of deaths caused in
other sports is much higher. Consider the high intensity and extremely tragic catastrophes seen in
motor sports alone.
Not to mention air sports, mountain and rock climbing, and the handful of ball games. The
intervention of our own personal risk and danger is our own liberty. On the other hand, I certainly
agree we have to prevent people from taking risks that they are ignorant about. There are numerous
other areas where consenting adults take risks and harm each other, such as smoking or drinking
alcohol. Where are the people arguing for their criminalization? In much similarity to other illegal

Joking or humor can serve many different functions throughout society, across many different
cultures, religious beliefs, and political backgrounds. In a medical light, humor can aid in
rehabilitation and overcoming traumatic injuries. In Native American culture there is a deep
history of humor in both social and religious spectrums. Humorcan serve as many social and
religious functions, especially in a historical context for Native American culture. There is an
importance of teasing within Native American families, categorized by common gentle teasing
which serve as social function by warming family relationships without compromising respect or
use of sternness from elders. It can also serve as a spiritual function for Native Americans as some
tribes believe the first laugh of a child to be a symbol of good humor in their life and ensures

Tropical Rainforest Biome Essay
Tropical Rainforest Biome The biome Tropical rainforest is an ecosystem that combines an equal
amount of sun, rain, and very warm temperatures. With this mixture it creates a very humid, almost
steamy atmosphere. It stays this way all year long, temperatures don t even alternate between day
and night. With all the humidity and moisture the precipitation rate is much higher than other
places, The yearly rainfall ranges from 80 400 inches. With this being the climate of this biome, it
comes along with unique plants and animals. There are approximately 10 million species of
animals, plants, and insects home to the tropical rainforest. Some of the many plantspecies include,
epiphytes, bromeliads, orchids, rubber tree and many more. Most of the trees and plants are used
by man either for food or to make goods and products. Many of the plants are edible, some of those
plants include bananas, coconuts, and spices. Most of the spices we use for cooking come from the

Co2 Lab Report
It exploted. Discussion
We were unable to complete the experiment due to the complete shattering of one of the
centrifuge tubes used in this experiment. This shattering was most likely due to the repeated use
of the same tube for the extraction. Because liquid CO2 induces a cold environment, and when a
material, particularly plastic, is exposed to repeated cycles of freezing and thawing the material
will become more brittle. Plastic is usually good at containing high pressures, but if the material
were to become brittle it would lose this ability and become fracture sensitive. This most likely
lead to the complete shattering of the tube while in the lab, given that several shards were found

Accountability And Accountability
The word accountability is toss around so much latterly it is hard to ignore it. What exactly is
accountability? Everyone claims they are doing it yet so many leaders and employees lack the
concept of accountability. Accountability is a subject that ranges through every spectrum of life.
Accountability is hold each person responsible his or her own actions in the given situation,
especially when we know the circumstances. If we are not to hold each other responsible for each
of our own actions and choices then we will never be able to correct problems and concerns, which
will make us fail as a whole because the smallest individual action can account for the gravest of
consequence. Bustin foreshadows to ignite life within an organization using his Seven Pillars of

The Ethical Concepts Of Northrop s Total Quality Management
It is unpromising to comprehend the total quality management phenomenon, emerging in the
twentieth century, and to acknowledge its competitive advantages and obstacles, unless the
underlying philosophy of quality is examined.
Since the time of ancient Greece, quality has been a subject of ethical discussions. The main
contemplator of quality is the first genuine scientist known in the history Aristotle (Gribbin,2008).
The fundamental concepts, enduring the TQM, are cultural heritage from the contemplators of
quality Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas (Schoengrund, 1996). Although, the epochal difference is
fifteen centuries, both contemplators define quality as goodness (Aristotle, 1967).
Accordingly, Northrop defines quality as an aesthetic continuum , which cannot be described rather
immediately perceived (1947). Aristotle defines also quality as static and dynamic, therefore the
dynamic quality endures Northrop s aesthetic continuum . The notion of dynamic quality is ... Show

reworking defects. The approach aims to set apart deviations by examining the basic attributes

There are alot things that come with nursing, becoming a travel nurse will be challenging but
with courage, follow through and excellence rather than perfection you can achieve that goal. To

Perlis states, While courage is hard to measure, it is directly proportional to your level of grit.
More specifically, you ability to manage fear of failure is imperative and predictor of success.

Thus, the breakdown of family and community groups made it difficult for Indigenous peoples to
have such support from family in times of stress, depression, disconnection from culture and

support factor that comes from family is completely ruled out. In saying this, not being able to
speak the English language and being forbidden to speak their traditional language did not help
during these times as communication is an important tool when seeking support and comfort,
making it difficult to receive the support which Indigenous peoples required in these times. The
breakdown of families and communities also resulted in loss of connection to the country and

Being A College Student
Being a college student comes with some challenges and some of the challenges are trying to
keep up with all the assignments, trying to live away from home and the biggest challenge is
being financially prepared for college. Being a freshman in college requires a lot of money and
when it comes to paying for tuition, textbooks and other college expense, most students are not
prepared on how the money should be spent properly. There are college students who live away
from home and that increases the amount of money they have to spent to continue going to college.
A big part of being a college studentis spending money to help with their educationbecause in

reason college costs more than you think written by Jon Marcus, the author goes over how many
students are not financially ready for college and don t know about the different circumstances that
can occur that could increase the money needed to continue with school.
The main reason why money is a big problem for college students is having a strict budget that
can be used. Money is a common problem for every student because of their perspective on what
are the spending priority. Most students only prepare to go to college for only four years and the
author Jon Marcus explains, it is because it is an idea that everyone should graduate in four years,
parents believe four years of college it the norm to graduate and finally

Essay On Sunburn
Sunburn
Overview
Skin lesions resulting from excessive exposure to radiation or without adequate protection from
the sun. The sun s rays come to earth in the form of ultraviolet rays, UVA and UVB. Both types
of rays are potentially dangerous because in dose excessive can damage the molecular structures
of cells, particularly those of DNA. Even X rays, applied in small doses, can lead to sunburn.
This is manifested by a reddened area, due to a greater flow of blood to the stimulus exerted by
the heat on the cutaneous nerve fibers. The skin, in addition to red, may also be swollen and seat
of burning pains. After two or three days, the burning subsides; the redness disappears and is

hours; then the skin becomes tanned or brown. Small fluid filled blisters with itching that can

Skin redness and blisters, accompanied by chills, fever, nausea, dehydration.
This stage is considered first degree burn. Pain and eye irritation for excessive exposure to
ultraviolet solar rays that is coming from other sources.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of solar sunburn occurs on the basis of symptoms and past exposure to the sun. Your
doctor may suggest phototesting if sunburn is due to minor exposure to sunlight. During
phototesting, tiny area unit as of your skin are exposed to measured amounts of UVA and UVB

Treatment
The analgesic drugs such as aspirin may help reduce the pain from sunburn when given
immediately after exposure but before the development of burn true. Showers, baths and cold
compresses can prevent worsening burn. If there is itching during the burn healing, it can be useful
to take an antihistamine. In more severe cases, they resort to drugs corticosteroids, either orally or

The Origin Of The Egyptian Religion
Horus is one of the oldest and most meaningful deities in agent Egyptian religion. He was
worshiped through the late predynastic period and through the Greco Roman times. From as far
back as we know the Egyptians believed that Osiris was of divine origin, that he suffered death and
mutilation at the hands of evil, and after a great struggle with these powers he rose again, that he
then became the king of the underworld and judge of the dead, and because he had conquered death
the honorable also might conquer death (Horusof Edfu). There is so much that we have learned
about Horus, from who he was before he was a God, to who he symbolizes, and the different ways
of representation. Horus s mother was the Goddess Isisand his father was Osiris. Isis fled from Set
to give birth to Horus safely, knowing Set would want to kill Horus as he already killed Osiris.
Horus then became Set s enemy, eventually defeating Set, thus avenging his father and assuming
the rule. Horus emerged as a local god in many places and with different names. Some of the
names were Harmakhis Horus in the Horizon , Harpocrates Horus the Child and, Harsiesis
Horus, Son of Isis (Horus, Encyclopedia). Horus became the universal name for many different
gods associated with falcons. From the 1st dynasty onward, Horus and the god Set were presented
as perpetual antagonists who were reconciled in the harmony of Upper and Lower Egypt. Featured

Ever since my sister attended Troy University and told me about all the superior activities Troy
has to offer, I have wanted to attend this college. Troy has an outstanding nursing program, and
that is the career field I plan on going into prior graduation. I have always wanted to specialize in
neonatal nursing with sick babies. Troy also has some awesome sororities at their school I am
interested in being a part of. Alpha Gamma Delta is the sorority I am most interested in. They
strive to achieve academic excellence and they help out their school as much as they can. Lastly,
Troy has a very beautiful, clean, and safe campus. Feeling safe while walking around your college
is a very important factor to me.
Nursing has always been a dream of mine. My sister has just graduated nursing school and has
now obtained her RN license and she loves being a nurse and helping people. I want to help adults
too, but I want to mostly focus on working with premature and sick babies. I have a strong love
for babies and small children and have always wanted to pursue a career in this field. Troy is
known to have an outstanding nursing program, along with many other outstanding opportunities. I
cannot wait to go to Troy and start working on my RN license to start my dream career as a nurse.

The specific sorority I want to join is Alpha Gamma Delta. This sorority focuses on keeping their
grades up, helping their school become better, and helping out people in general. Being in a
sorority helps you meet new friends as well. This sorority was founded on my birthday which is
also a very cool fact, and is just another reason I want to join this sorority. I have always wanted to
be in a sorority and have sorority sisters and also be involved with my college as much as I

Ancient Mythology through Generations
Ancient Mythology has always been a very fascinating subject throughout many generations.
Whether it was stories of star crossed lovers, good versus evil, or the wrath of the gods these
tales have always had a way of captivating their audiences. One of the most prominent stories was
about Odysseus, a war hero who longed to return to his wife Queen Penelope after many years
away fighting in the Trojan War. He loved his queen very much and the fact they could not be
together tore him apart. When he returned from a long voyage at sea, he had to prove his love for
his queen. Another major tale was that of King Agamemnon, who was also fighting in the Trojan
War and wanted to see his wife Clytemnestra. However, when he returned Agamemnon might have
found himself in a position that he shouldn t have returned home to. Both of these stories tell tales
about the epic war for the city of Troy, however the fate of these two great leaders was vastly
different when they returned home. The Trojan War began when the Trojan Prince Paris stole the
heart of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta, and the two of them returned back to try to
be married. Menelaus was not going to take this act of disrespect, and demanded that somebody
pay the price for such a devious crime. Agamemnon was the brother of Menelaus and the two of
them formed an alliance against the people and leaders of Troy. When the dust settled many
familiar faces were dead including Achilles, Ajax, and Paris. King Menelaus

Baseball As A First Negro Player
After World War II, Baseball was most beloved game in America. Africans had served their country
gallantly with others. However, they return home fighting to free the world from tyranny only to
find racism, Jim crawlism and segregation still waiting at home. The film is about the challenges
Robinson face to come to play Baseballas a first negro player through social segregation.
Segregation was the law and custom of the land. No other group was more scrupulous in its
observance of customs than organized Baseball. In 1946, there were 16 Major Baseball teams
consisting of 400 players and all of them was white. In 1947,Mr Ricky, innovative major league
Baseballexecutive, stood apart to bring a colored ball player in Baseball. He offers Jacki that if
he make it to Montreal, he could play with Brooklyn Dodgers with a good amount of salary.
However, there was one condition that Jacki must control his temper by any means. Jacki
replied, You give me a uniform and a number on my back, and I will give you my temper . Jacki
got a jersey with 42 on the back. After signing the contract with Montreal Jacki got married with
a fine young woman named Rachel. At the first day of spring training at Montreal he faced a few
question from the reporters. He answered them with his intellect. In Daytona, Florida police
interrupt Jacki in the game, accusing him of hitting a white player in the field. But, it was legal by
the game rules. April 18, 1946 in Jersey city was the opening day of

Nancy Goldin s I Ll Be Your Mirror
Nancy Goldin was born in Washington D.C. on September 12th, 1953 to her Jewish parents and
grew up in middle class Lexington. After attending an alternative school in Lincoln she left home
at the age of 13. Suspicious of love between the male and female sexes and also mourning the
suicide of her sister, she actively looked for a substitute family. While doing so, she became
involved with a group of alienated young teenagers that relied on drugs, sex, and violence.
Nan was first introduced to photography at 15 when a teacher passed out Polaroid cameras to
students at Setya Community School in 1968. She began with black and white square photographs
of friends in the Trans community in Boston in the early 70s and had her first solo photo shoot ...

In 1994, she published Tokyo Love, a series of images of Tokyo youth, in collaboration with
Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. In this collection of portraits Goldin found that the
eastern community was greatly alike her portraits of the western community. In 1995 she
worked along with a British filmmaker named Edmund Coulthard to make a movie about her
life and work in I ll Be Your Mirror. Then in 1996, her reputation was even further increased by a
influential retrospective, centered around one of her slideshows at the Whitney Museum in New
York. Goldin s work is most often presented in a slideshow format and are sometimes shown at
film festivals; her most famous being 40 minutes long consisting of 800 photographs. She has
fondly documented women looking in mirrors, girls in barrooms and bathrooms, drag queens,
sexual activity, and the culture of obsession and dependency. Her photos are often described as a
way to learn the stories and intimate details of those closest to her. It references one of her most
famous photographs Nan One Month After Being Battered, 1984 as an iconic photo she used to
reclaim her identity and

Proactive And Begin With The End Of Mind By Stephen R....
Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind
Stephen R. Covey writes that there is not a greater investment to grow in new habits, and he
invites his readers to study these habits and be patient with ourselves. I like that he writes, be
patient with ourselves, because we are people that are not perfect and we cannot achieve that
perfection in ourselves. The first two habits are, Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind. Both
of these habits are about moving from independence to interdependence that focus mainly on our
choices or mastering your thoughts. I like Covey s statement, I am responsible for me, and I can
choose.
Proactive
When I first thought of proactive, it meant to recall all of the scenarios that may come up so that
I may be ready. Actually, this is how Covey uses his right brain, in imaging all the things that can
go wrong and dreaming up ways to help. This is natural for me to meditate this way. However,
this kind of proactive can create worry and keep me up late over visualizing. I prefer praying and
sitting with Jesus, because it is impossible to come up with everything alone in my own head and
this causes too much work. I believe in working with a team and what comes to each of us in a
situation is valuable and ideas that could only come from someone who ruminates different that I
do. Overly proactive people sometimes can be manipulative, because they have already worked
through everything in their head and if they are open to new

Breast Self Examination
In regards to breast cancer, there is no emergent management. The diagnosis of breast cancer is
usually found by clinical breast exam or radiologic evaluation. If a patient presents to the
emergency room with a breast lump, they will likely be discharged with instructions to follow up
with their primary care provider.
Patient Education, Maintenance, and Prevention
Breast Self Examination Breast self examination (BSE) remains a controversial and debated subject
amongst the medical field. In comparison to last year s guidelines, the newest set of guidelines
from 2013 state that all women should be counseled to perform month breast self examination
(Khatcheressian, 2013).
It is essential that women be taught proper technique and that ... Show more content on

Breastfeeding has been shown to exert a protective effect on females. In multiple case control and
cohort studies, the difference in the two groups at hand in relation to breast cancer risk were the
length at which they breastfed (Chen, 2013). In another meta analysis, it was shown that duration
of maternal nursing correlates with substantial risk reduction independent of either parity or age at
first full term pregnancy (Lippman, 2012).
Physical activity. Increased physical activity has many benefits to the average human, however, for
women it is postulated to reduce breast cancer risk. Although the exact mechanism is unknown, it is
thought to do so through hormonal influences, such as reducing serum estrogens, insulin, and
insulin growth factor 1 levels (Chen, 2013). In another recent review, it was estimated that risk of
breast cancer was reduced by 25 percent among physically active women compared with women
who were the least active (Lynch, 2011).

by Lisa Genova is about a woman in her fifties who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer s

career as a cognitive psychology professor at Harvard, but that came to an end when this disease

It was also hard to keep track of time, it was hard to know how much her disease had progressed.
Another reason you may not enjoy this book is because if you have never known anyone
suffering from the disease or have any relationship with it, it may be hard to connect with the
characters and their struggles. It may sound tedious or over dramatic, but in reality, it is as scary
as forgetting where you live and walking into your neighbor s house instead of your

  • 3. Essay on The Myth of Sisyphus The Myth of Sisyphus Sisyphus is the absurd hero. This man, sentenced to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain and then watching it roll back down, is the epitome of the absurd hero according to Camus. In retelling the Myth of Sisyphus, Camus is able to create an extremely powerful image which sums up the intellectual discussion which comes before it in the book. We are told that Sisyphus is the absurd hero as much through his passions as through his torture. His scorn of the gods, his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in which the whole being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. (p.89). Sisyphus is conscious of his troubles , and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In these essays Camus looks the problem of suicide. In a shocking, unnerving manner he opens with the bold statement that: There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is suicide. (p. 3). He goes on to discover if suicide is a real answer to the human who is unhappy with life. Or if life is worth living now that god is dead? The discussion begins and continues not as a metaphysical cobweb but as a well reasoned statement based on a way of knowing which Camus holds is the only epistemology we have at our command. We know only two things: This heart within me I can feel, and I judge that it exists. This world I can touch, and I likewise judge that it exists. There ends all my knowledge, and the rest is construction. (p. 14) With these as the basic certainties of the human condition, Camus argues that there is no meaning to life. He disapproves of the many philosophers who have played on words and pretended to believe that refusing to grant a meaning to life necessarily leads to declaring that it is not worth living. (p.7) Life has no absolute meaning. In spite of the human s irrational nostalgia for unity, for absolutes, for a definite order and meaning to the not me of the universe, no such meaning exists in the silent, indifferent universe. Between this yearning for meaning and eternal verities and the actual condition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Between Liberty And The State Within the study of legal philosophy, few scholars have been able to understand the dangers arising from the complex relationship between liberty and the state to the same extent as Lord Acton. Though mainly unpublished prior to his death, Acton s writings provoke thought surrounding power struggles and conflicting interests in societies. It has become clearer over time that inequality, whether institutionalised or not, ultimately provides the foundation of modern societies. In order to counteract this and facilitate stability amongst nations, particularly in the prevention of anarchy, many support the view that there is an inherent need to restrict the complete exercise of free will, be it powers possessed by a public authority, or at an individual level. The principle of self determination in the context of the state sovereignty , that being the right of a nation to conduct itself in the absence of external influence, has assisted in alleviating some of the burdens placed upon the human race. The state routinely exercises sovereignty over its inhabitants and distinct territory to establish control, and in an ideal world should render a society free from oppression from both by the state, and amongst individuals. Though the struggle to obtain liberty had underpinned the existence of modern nations, disagreement as to its nature and scope has created a variety of distinct perspectives regarding the limits which ought to be placed on our personal freedoms. Amateur Genealog Was it an ominous secret that needed to be uncovered, a truth that needed vindication, or simply a fabricated tale initiated by an uncle whose reality had been dimmed by passage of time? For years, the now deceased uncle had insisted the family surname was not correct and was equally as persistent that the familyname should be another. It didn t help that when immediate family members were asked, they either didn t want to discuss it, or pleaded having no knowledge about the subject. After so many years, could the real truth be uncovered? How do amateur genealogists find connection, or in some cases, disconnection to people? Our family genealogist had made a common mistake, one that many people make and have to acknowledge at a later date. With the availability of computer records, he had gone directly to the computer for the fastest, and what he thought to be the easiest methods of building a family tree. Our genealogist found out that that is not always true. Amateur genealogists skip over some of the best methods for gathering evidence. Genealogy is a field in which older is better and leg work is important. Begin with what you already know and then search in your community. Spread out from there. Don t be shy about asking questions and keeping meticulous notes on the answers. The smallest detail may become the clue to unraveling a mystery later on. Genealogists should talk to as many older family members as possible. Unlike immediate family members, the older generation is usually harboring an abundance of knowledge concerning past generations. Begin by engaging them in conversations about their youth, their family, social issues and norms before asking questions. Always listen attentively for important clues as they may drop valuable information to you that seems relatively unimportant to them. Use resources like the old photos, Bibles, attic trunks and other family heirlooms hidden in the attic or basement; they can contain important information concerning family. Only after scouring hardcopies of one s personal resources, and after making meticulous notes and charts, should one branch out. Computers are a great tool for genealogical research, but they should be used in conjunction with other resources. Our genealogist found that had he been more aggressive in his community search and asked more questions, he may have found answers sooner. Many people fear America only getting worse under Trump s administration, so if that was the case would these Muslim majority countries accept us African Americans? Keep in mind that the United Statesis not the only country that has rejected refugees from Syria in recent years. Numerous countries in Europe and the Middle Easthave refused to accept what would undoubtedly become a burden to any country. Especially when other wealthy nations and even majority Muslim neighbors to Syria refuse to accept Syrian refugees. There is this rhetoric that I should be equally as alarmed as the groups that are being affected by this policy. • 8. Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence ONE STEP TOWARDS JUSTICE: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Right now, right at this very instant, a silent war all across the nation is being waged. A violation of humanity, a crime that is least prosecuted, and a great threat endangering the lives of thousands of women and children daily. Of course, I am talking about harsh reality of domestic violence. We live in a time where domestic violence is kept a taboo subject, a shameful secret that shouldn t be let out. We know it s happening, and even hear or see the events. But who s taking action? I can stand here and give you a list of statistics about this issue, but is that all it is? A statistic? Sadly enough, people look at this endless crime as just a figure or percentage, we re shocked at first but nothing more. So today, I am taking the first step, a step towards justice, a step to end the struggle, and a step to save our nation. And yes, I m not anyone special, I don t study the topic, nor am I a survivor of domestic violence myself. But I m here to tell a story. I m here to make a change. And I m here to encourage all of you to do the same. I m going to share an experience I had. Something that I ve regretted and hated myself for since, knowing that help could ve been sought earlier. A few years back, I was catching up with a family member and noticed a faint bruise on her face. Naturally, I asked her what had happened but she just brushed it off, told me it was nothing but a sport injury. Weeks progressed, and the bruises became worse and worse, but I stop questioning. To me, she still seemed the happy go lucky girl I knew and loved, the only difference were these markings. But let me tell you, sometimes the people who seem happiest, are actually hurting the most. And this was exactly the case. Flashforward a few months, and her partner was being trialled and charged under the case of domestic abuse. Although there were so many signs, my ignorance restrained me from helping her help herself. Needless to say, I was absolutely disgusted. And to this day, I still can t even begin the fathom how anyone could possibly put their hands on someone they loved. To purposely harm their significant other and act like everything is fine. Early Ford mentioned that this algebra class was offered for 150 dollars. Not only are the classes inexpensive but they allow students to take the class whenever, whenever, if ever. Accused murderer Belva Gaertner, 1924 (National Geographic, N.D) Sequins, glamour, sex and murder sounds like the stuff movies are made of but the award winning, longest running American musical Chicago is based on the true murder cases of Belva Gaertner and Beulah Annan who were accused of killing their partners under the influence of alcohol and Jazz music in 1924. Maurine Watkins made Chicago what it is today. Maurine was a former reporter who followed the murder trials of Gaertner and Annan; her inquisitive mindset into the way the women were prosecuted sparked her to write the play Chicago in 1926. From then on the show has gone to Broadway in 1974 and revived in 1996. In 2002 it was then turned into a movie casting major stars such as Catherine Zita Jones. Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe celebrity who is arrested for murdering her lover whilst trying to convince her soft, pushover of a husband, Amos, to lie for her. • 14. The Failure Of Freedom In Arthur Miller s The Crucible For the past 20 years, Americans have watched as the news displayed more and more headlines about massacres, scandals, and acts of terror. In addition, pictures of rallies and protests, similar to Edelson s portrayal of the protests in Berkeley, California, have flooded the newspapers. All of these recurring events instill a strong sense of fear into the American public. If America touts itself as being the land of the free and the home of the brave, why do its inhabitants feel powerless and vulnerable? Social critic, H.L. Mencken states that the average man does not want to be free, and behind the facade of freedom, he simply wants to be safe. Through examples in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, the overbearing weight which fear has on one s life is extremely evident. In addition, Robert J. Samuelson s support of Trump s proposal for a wall running along the Mexican American border in his article Yes, Build the Wall, is a clear example of the extent to which Americans in contemporary society are willing to go to protect themselves from any possible threat. Although the average man craves the freedom to live according to his own wishes, one is willing to ultimately give up those desires in order to live in a bubble of safety, suppressing any fragment of fear. Although one is inclined to live a sheltered life in the bubble that is safety, one truly craves freedom. Freedom is the one of the core values on which this country was built. The Architecture Of Gothic Literature And The Romantic Era Today s literature and the way is expressed is greatly influenced by the literature of the Romantic Era which the Gothic literature had part on. The Gothic Literature is build by how the authors convey the feelings of horrors to the readers through the imagination of the reader which can be expanded through the reading. Gothic Literature is strongly influenced by the architecture of haunted places, which gives off the aura of horror and terrorin the reading in order to give these feelings to the readers. Although many things come to play in the architecture of the Gothic literature, doors are an essential way to gives off this aura, where doors lead to uncertain places which unexpected things can happen at anytime; examples of this kind are Ann Radcliffe s work The Romance of the Forest and Horace Walpole s work The Castle of Otranto . Both stories contain characters that experience the thrill of entering new places that are lead by an unusual door, which gives the readers clues at what kind of feelings this type of literature is based. An example in The Romance of the Forest is when Adeline is curious about what the door that she discovers leads to. A mystery seems to hang over these chambers... which it is, perhaps, my lot to develope; I will, at least, see to what that door leads (Radcliffe 600). The Corvette delivers in all these areas, it has a 0 60 MPH time of less than 5 seconds, and a time of slightly less than 14 seconds in the quarter mile. In the 525 foot slalom test an average speed of 47.9 mph was obtained. On the skid pad the Corvette is able to obtain 0.96 lateral g s (Stewart, 2007). The Corvette s stopping power is noted in its ability to come to a complete stop from 60 miles per hour in only 125 feet (Mueller, 1998). These performance measures may not be used in everyday driving, but the ability to stop quickly in an emergency situation is apparent, as is having enough acceleration to merge onto a busy highway, with the performance the Corvette has, these everyday tasks can be accomplished effortlessly and safely. Protection of businesses by the yakuza is very common, more so in the past however. Companies pay yojimbodai2 to the yakuza in exchange for protection services. It is worthy to note the fact that companies sought the Yakuzas protection willingly. For instance, the entertainment industry seeks protection to reduce the threat of disruption to their operating environment by competitors or rowdy customers. Trucking and construction industries are dependent on this protection to prevent delayed, damaged goods in transit due to the highly competitive industry. (Hill, 2003, 96). At least, that s how it is for the youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. A Replication of the Stroop Effect A Replication of the Stroop Effect Kimber Ann Cook Broughton High School 3/26/08 Ms. Greene IB Psychology SL 1, 738 Abstract The Stroop (1935) effect is the inability to ignore a color word when the task is to report the ink color of that word (i.e., to say green to the word RED in green ink). The present study investigated whether object based processing contributes to the Stroop effect. According to this view, observers are unable to ignore irrelevant features of an attended object (Kahneman Henik, 1981). In three experiments, participants had to name the color of one of two superimposed rectangles and to ignore words that appeared in the relevant object, in the irrelevant object, or in the background. An interesting challenge arises when a task such as color naming is identified as both controlled and automatic, by varying the other task involved. Color naming is identified as a controlled process when the other task is word reading, but as an automatic process when the other task is shape naming. Cohen, Dunbar and McClelland (1990) proposed an alternative explanation of the Stroop effect, which does not distinguish between automatic and controlled processing. Instead, they proposed that automaticity is a range, and that Stroop interference depends on the relative degree of learning the particular tasks, not on processing speed. Attention is thought to be selective focused on one subject at a time. Traditionally, it has been assumed that automatic processing is involuntary, it does not require attention, and is relatively fast; whereas, controlled processing is voluntary, does require attention, and is relatively slow. We can conclude from this that the more we repeat a certain material or tasks the more it becomes automatic and effortless to us. Methods Design The independent variable was represented by three conditions; three word lists printed in a variety of color inks. Two of the lists consisted of word colors; one in black ink and the other in incongruent colors. The third list consisted of square blocks in contrasting colors. Since the time of ancient Greece, quality has been a subject of ethical discussions. The main contemplator of quality is the first genuine scientist known in the history Aristotle (Gribbin,2008). The fundamental concepts, enduring the TQM, are cultural heritage from the contemplators of quality Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas (Schoengrund, 1996). Horus s mother was the Goddess Isisand his father was Osiris. Isis fled from Set to give birth to Horus safely, knowing Set would want to kill Horus as he already killed Osiris. Horus then became Set s enemy, eventually defeating Set, thus avenging his father and assuming the rule. Horus emerged as a local god in many places and with different names. Some of the names were Harmakhis Horus in the Horizon , Harpocrates Horus the Child and, Harsiesis Horus, Son of Isis (Horus, Encyclopedia). Horus became the universal name for many different gods associated with falcons. From the 1st dynasty onward, Horus and the god Set were presented as perpetual antagonists who were reconciled in the harmony of Upper and Lower Egypt. • 42. Ancient Mythology through Generations Ancient Mythology has always been a very fascinating subject throughout many generations. Whether it was stories of star crossed lovers, good versus evil, or the wrath of the gods these tales have always had a way of captivating their audiences. One of the most prominent stories was about Odysseus, a war hero who longed to return to his wife Queen Penelope after many years away fighting in the Trojan War. He loved his queen very much and the fact they could not be together tore him apart. When he returned from a long voyage at sea, he had to prove his love for his queen. Another major tale was that of King Agamemnon, who was also fighting in the Trojan War and wanted to see his wife Clytemnestra. However, when he returned Agamemnon might have found himself in a position that he shouldn t have returned home to. Both of these stories tell tales about the epic war for the city of Troy, however the fate of these two great leaders was vastly different when they returned home. The Trojan War began when the Trojan Prince Paris stole the heart of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta, and the two of them returned back to try to be married. Menelaus was not going to take this act of disrespect, and demanded that somebody pay the price for such a devious crime. Agamemnon was the brother of Menelaus and the two of them formed an alliance against the people and leaders of Troy. When the dust settled many familiar faces were dead including Achilles, Ajax, and Paris. King Menelaus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Proactive And Begin With The End Of Mind By Stephen R.... Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind Stephen R. Covey writes that there is not a greater investment to grow in new habits, and he invites his readers to study these habits and be patient with ourselves. I like that he writes, be patient with ourselves, because we are people that are not perfect and we cannot achieve that perfection in ourselves. The first two habits are, Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind. Both of these habits are about moving from independence to interdependence that focus mainly on our choices or mastering your thoughts. I like Covey s statement, I am responsible for me, and I can choose. Proactive When I first thought of proactive, it meant to recall all of the scenarios that may come up so that I may be ready. Actually, this is how Covey uses his right brain, in imaging all the things that can go wrong and dreaming up ways to help. This is natural for me to meditate this way. However, this kind of proactive can create worry and keep me up late over visualizing. I prefer praying and sitting with Jesus, because it is impossible to come up with everything alone in my own head and this causes too much work. I believe in working with a team and what comes to each of us in a situation is valuable and ideas that could only come from someone who ruminates different that I do. Overly proactive people sometimes can be manipulative, because they have already worked through everything in their head and if they are open to new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
