The Glue That Makes All The Good Grades
Think Back to high school, when you were in class with 30 other students. You do all the work,
make all the good grades and someone else gets all the credit. In my high school days, we called
these people teachers pets . These people made it seem like everything was about them. They
wanted to control everything and most of the students wanted to tellthis student off but couldn t
because the teacher would always take their side. Now, in this play we have a mother named
Amanda and like the teacher s pet, Amanda wants to control every aspect of her children s life.
May I add, that the children that she tried to control are well above the legal adult age. The
children, like the other students in the classroom, wanted to tell her off but it wouldn t be of any
value because they had no backing. Amanda is truly the glue that makes this play what it is today.
Amanda is the most important character in this play because she wants to live her life through her
kids, everything that went wrong was because of her, and because of her nagging ways.
Amanda truly wants to live her life though her children life at any cost. Just like any parent
Amanda wants to have her children succeed in life. She truly wants her children to go on and
enjoy their life and I believe that she feels disappointed because she can t give them what they need
to survive the rest of their life s because she isn t financially stable enough for this. Since she can t
give them what they need, she pushes them to

B. F. Skinner Essay
B.F. Skinner
B.F. Skinner was one of the most influential theorists in modern psychology. His work was very
important and has been studied by many for years. Skinner was a very straightforward man and a
very educated man. His theories have helped mankind in many ways. He has studied the behavior
patterns of many living organisms. Skinner was a well published writer. His work has been
published in many journals. He also has written many books on behaviorism. His most important
work was the study of behaviorism.
First began by John B. Watson, behaviorism is one of the most widely studied theories today. B.F.

He also read about animals. He collected toads, lizards, and snakes. He trained pigeons to do
tricks after he saw them performing one year at a fair. Training the pigeons probably was where
he got his ideas of operant conditioning. He attended Susquehanna High School just like his
mother and father. In his graduating class there were only eight people including him. He was a
very intellectual person. He reported that he really enjoyed school. Over the four years in high
school Skinner became good at math and reading Latin, but was no good at science. He was
always performing physical and chemical experiments while he was at home. His father was a
book collector. Skinner always had a good library of books around his house. Skinner recalled the
little collection of applied psychology journals that his father had bought. Those books could have
been the starting point in his psychology career. Skinner grew up in a very religious family.
After high school Skinner went to Hamilton College where he majored in English Literature and
minored in Romance Languages. Skinner s freshman year did not turn out to be what he
expected. He felt that the college was pushing him around with unnecessary requirements, such as
daily chapel and physical education. Skinner s college life became better as the years went on. He
was very comfortable with college life by his senior year. He and a friend once printed up a poster
that said that Charles Chaplin was

The Soviet Leader Vladimir Lenin And The New Millennium Essay
Introduction: One step forwards, two steps back. This was the mantra of Soviet leader Vladimir
Lenin as he consolidated power during the 2nd Congress of the Russian Social Democratic
Labour Party in 1903 (Lenin 1941). In the statement, Lenin illustrates the idea that every attempt
or step towards progress only succeeded in creating new challenges, new problems, out from the
woodworks. Sixteen years into the 21st Century, this catchphrase seems to be the running
theme, or perhaps joke, of the new millennium. The internet has connected all of humanity in
ways that have never before been seen throughout the history of mankind, yet it also opened the
door for cyber terrorism, illegal surveillance, and the efficient propagation of dangerous hateful
ideologies. Progress in the field of medicine races forwards at the speed of light, but
pharmaceutical companies are greedy. They hold onto their patents with vice grips and raise
prices of essential medications while they cost only pennies to produce. Progress is like Pandora
s box in that it proliferates the spread of evil, greed, and corruption, while the fragile hope that
remains in the jar continues the human race in its attempts to move forward. We tell ourselves,
Maybe we ll get it right this time. This time we ll learn for our predecessors mistakes. Very rarely
do these hopes materialize. Politics, especially politics, have not escaped this one step forwards,
two steps back mantra. Laws have been put into place to protect

Ethnicity and Exclusion through Space
Chapter two
Methodology
The first point of call was to have a clear and sharp understanding of the dissertation topic and this
was done through the use of online research as there is a vast amount of information that can be
collected in relation to integrating communities. This was then followed by the key significance to
the main objective which is gathering data. To help with the findings and analysis, the research has
to be focused more on areas where communities benefit through people of different backgrounds
living together and sharing basic commodities, these could be sharing a kitchen, communal
gardens, open spaces and even a bench in the public park.2 As there are quite a number of diverse
people in the community, a lot of information was collected from them through one on one
discussion. Although the information collected was not very satisfactory, care had to be taken as
to select what to use. This was also the issue with selecting case studies which deals specifically
with sociable housing which in these communities is widely known as co housing. The evidence
collected from sources had to be carefully selected and used accordingly. A model was then
developed to assess how people of different background can be incorporated through various
substances. This was then implemented within separate case studies and the results explored and
analysed. The model was then tried on another project to see if it works.
The method of research used in this thesis is by use

Compare And Contrast The Return Of Martin Guerre
The Return of Martin Guerre is a version of story which was presented in a book version and a
film version. It tells about the story of a young man who has inhabited his own village, and the
successive accounts of the invented emergency that returns to occur. Consequently, it provides the
person who reads it with a set of happenings that describe life during 16th century in France. The
happenings, while not completely accurate, enable the reader and viewer through a thoughtful and
powerful story about love, life, and more outstandingly the religion. The film and the book of the
story of Martin Guerrecontrast in major ways from each other and therefore, the main objective of

Factors such as age group and current day culture play an important role in constructing such
conclusions. Currently, many are unfamiliar with the essentials of the historical society, or more

The Return of Martin Guerre, can often be considered dull and boring to many first year students
but film would serve as a suitable version because it provides a calmer appealing design and right
atmosphere for students to learn from. To first year students, viewing a historical film like this,
would challenge even the best historical films that they would have previously watched. Excellent
visualization and acting constantly fascinates the audience, allowing them to imaginary go into the

The Human Development Index ( Hdi )
Throughout the history of civilization, poverty has remained an unfortunate characteristic of
society contributing to restrained development. This trend became a prominent characteristic
during the medieval age in Europe as the feudal system created strong autocrats who treated the
poor with scorn and disrespect, and now it is has continued into today s society (Davis). One of the
most notable locations of this trend is Haiti. With staggering poverty rates and deplorable health
standards, Haiti has the lowest development rate in the Western Hemisphere (The Haitian People).
Haiti s development is verified by its Human Development Index (HDI). Established by the United
Nations, a world organization dedicated to the development and safety of the world s countries,
an HDI is a value ranging from zero in less developed nations and one in more developed nations
that measures several statistics directly related to poverty including life expectancy at birth,
national education rates, and gross national income (2015 Human Development Report).
Although not an exact measure of poverty, the HDI functions as a simplified representation of
poverty. Currently, Haiti has a concerningly low HDI of .483, and it is not growing quickly
(Human Development Reports). If Haiti is to raise its HDI and decrease its poverty, they must
settle on a solution. Because the HDI is so closely related to poverty, and it is much more focused
and simplified, it is more logical and more efficient for Haiti to

Public Schools And Private Schools
Schools have been around since the 18th century; starting with private schools and then public
schools came around in the 19th century (Kaplan and Williams, American Education ). From there
how to get an education has drastically changed. There are several types of schools that you can put
your child in; homeschool, virtual schools, advanced placement schools, Charter schools, private
schooland public school. The top options are public schools and private schools. There are
different considerations you have to take in to choose the best school for your child; cost,
average class size, development of social skills, bullying rates and graduation rates. We will hit on
each of these topics further, as well as discuss the other schooling options to help you decide the
best school for your child. So, between public and private schools and the other non traditional
options; which is the best option for your child?
One of the top considerations parents take into account when looking at what type of school to
put their child in is cost. The consideration of cost can be the deciding factor when it comes to
putting your child in public school over private school. In the United States the average annual
cost for sending your child to a private school is $8,411 for elementary and $12,900 for high school.
The cost then varies even more by state. In Washington the average annual cost for private school
is $8,877 elementary and $10,525 for high school. In Idaho the average annual cost

Natural Dyes from Plants in Producing Colored Paste
Natural Dyes from Plants in Producing Colored Paste
Abstract:
Paste is a type of glue made from starch or dextrin, a starch product. This investigatory project
shows that we can produce our own colored paste without spending much time and money and by
performing simple steps. That s why this Science Investigatory Project can help students save their
money instead of spending it in buying expensive and commercialized colored glue. In addition,
this colored paste can be an additional source of income. It s not just affordable; it s also safe and
non toxic because the ingredients used are starch, water, natural dyes from plants and alum. Alum
is used as preservative to prolong the shelf life of the paste. Natural dyes from plants like ... Show

Starch may be further processed into such products as dextrin.
Starch glue is the general name for adhesives made from wheat starch, potato starch, or cassava
starch modified with acids, alkalies, or oxidizing agents, it has poor resistance to moisture.
Commercial is obtained from the starch of tapioca, maize and sweet potatoes.
The halogen elements (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine) also serve as oxidizing
agents. When chloride combines with sodium chloride or common salt, the sodium atoms give up
electron to the chloride atoms.
A salt is derived from an acid when one or more hydrogen atoms of the acid are replaced by one or
more metal ions positively charged radicals.
Alkalies are usually salts or hydroxide of sodium potassium, lithium or ammonia.
The seeds of the Annatto tree are used locally for coloring food. The coloring matter of the fruit,
Annatto, is employed commercially for coloring butter and in the preparation of various polishers
for russet leather.
The rhizomes of turmeric, or dilau, are commonly sold in Manila markets, and are used as
condiments as an ingredients of curry powder, and for coloring food and other materials.
Turmeric is one of the best known material dyes. Being used for dyeing silk, wool and cotton.

Prospero And Ariel
Prospero is a man with high social standing and power, which he uses to manipulate situations
into his favor. He is the Duke of Milan and has a spirit Ariel in his power. Ariel is forced to
remain with him until the tasks he requires are complete. This accounts for Ariel s present
servitude to Prospero, confirmed in the spirit s first utterance, All hail, great master! (1.2.189).
Ariel begins to come to the end of his expected time trapped as a servant. He begins to become
very excited at the thought of his future freedom, dreaming about his days away from his
enslavement. This feeling is seen when he says: Where the bee sucks, there suck I/In a cowslip s
bell I lie./There I couch when owls do cry./On the bat s back I do fly/After summer merrily.
/Merrily, merrily shall I live now/Under the blossom that hangs on the bow. (5.1.99,104).... Show

same way, if he thinks of him as more than just a servant. Once he has done all the tasks he says
to Prospero, Sir, all this service/Have I done since I went. (5.1.27 1,272). He then says, Was t well

The Key Strategic Decisions Of Cornelius Vanderbilt

John D. Rockefeller s strategic decision to deal with Vanderbilt was both a chance and

Long-term Recall of Traumatic Experiences Essays
On the morning of September 11, 2001, exactly at 9:22 a.m., I woke up to start my day and turned
my television on. Instantly, Fox News had reported that a commercial plane had smashed into the
Twin Towers of New York City, just minutes earlier. While the story was certainly shocking, I
wanted to know more and watched the horrific aftermath unfold, as it continued to happen. I
remember an incredible feeling of sadness that I could do nothing to help the people in these
buildings, as well as a great concern that more attempts could be made to create further tragedy
elsewhere.
As time went on that morning, sketchy pieces of information about rescue plans and other efforts
came to light; screen shots of the downtown devastation permeated ... Show more content on

As mentioned earlier, for example, the images of the second plane flying into the building will
surely stay with me; however, smaller details of the incident, which have become generalized
over the years, are not nearly as clear or in order like they were on the day they happened. This is
not at all surprising, since according to Perina (2002), flashbulb memories do, in fact, degrade
over a short period of time (para. 1). The extent to which these events fade or change in our
thoughts can vary in degree, and is generally believed to be directly proportionate to a person s
level of involvement in the events that occurred.
How accurate is this memory now? Although, according to my recollections, much of that morning
seems to be more precisely recorded and recalled than other events I have experienced, further
indications are that this may not be so, for research shows that... supposed flashbulb memories are
not necessarily any more accurate than other memories (ScienCentral, 2007, para. 6). To easily
illustrate these findings, minor details, which were a part of my memory during or shortly after the
attacks, have since been forgotten. Examples of such information are: names of rescuers and
firemen mentioned during broadcasts, flight numbers of the planes used in the tragedy, and the
identities of the passengers aboard each plane. On the other hand, disasters do seem to affect a
person s ability to remember a number of significant details, which under

Female Oppression In Movies
Oppression is an issue that some women deal with every day. In my project, I will give
examples of how black women are subjected to oppression in film. I will be analyzing two
different creators a male and a female. I will analyze their work. Looking, specifically at Alice
Walker s the Color Purple and Tyler Perry s Why Did I Get Married. Both films are different
because of their plots, setting, and era s the films were made in. However, they are also alike in
various ways. One of the main commonalities is that both films depict black female oppression.
The leading female characters in these films are subjected to oppression such as: verbal abuse,
physical abuse, mental abuse, and emotional abuse. I will use this essay to analysis these films
and the creative forces behind them. I will also reference many primary and secondary sources.
The information collected from these references will be used to answer the questions: How do the
creative forces such as Alice Walkerand her story the Color Purpleand the creative forces of Tyler
Perry and his work in Why Did I Get Married compare in their depiction of black female
oppression? How accurate of a portrayal is the oppression of black women in film? What
message are they trying to portray? How does black female oppression in film compare to white
female oppression in film? The information in the essay will help prove that creative forces,
whether black male or black female can create work that supports the black feminist

A Brief Note On Stones River National Battlefield
Stones River National Battlefield Stones River Battlefield was an obvious choice for this
assignment. I live and study in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I know that there is a lot of history in the
area, but it is not often that we encounter this history on a daily basis. It is important to know about
the historybecause it helps us to understand the present and the culture of any area. I found that
this battlefield was actually very important to the events of the Civil War, therefore, I knew that
this would be a great place for me to visit for this assignment. There really is not that much
literature readily available about the Battle of Stones Riveror the Battlefield. Therefore, taking the
battlefield in in person becomes even more critical. It is amazing to see that the battlefield has
been preserved as well as it has been especially given the rapid industrialization that has occurred
in the city where it is located. I was able to locate a publication printed by the National Parks
Service that explains how the battlefield changed in the early 1990s. From this publication, I
found some startling information. The battlefield is located near a part of Murfreesboro that is
rapidly expanding and has been for some time. Not surprisingly, many of the original structures
have been completely removed to make way for housing divisions and shopping strip malls. During
the Civil War, there was a farmhouse located near the battlefield. The Confederate soldiers had to

The Plan For New Homes
With the economic crash that started in 2007 and continued for a couple years countless men and
woman lost their jobs and homes. Due in part to the ability to over extend themselves they were
maxed out in their credit to debt ratios, struggling just to make ends meet. Thankfully, with the
downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce
back. Many today are beginning to enter back into the housing market looking for new homes,
although this time instead of trying to find the max they can afford, they are now more concerned
with the payment they can afford.
These newly educated buyers have learned a few ways to come back stronger than ever and stay
on top thanks to their shortcomings from the past. One of such ways is by a federal program
called The back to work program , which helps out those who lost their homes due to the crash.
This program is federally insured and offers buyers the second chance they need in as little as 12
months after a foreclosure or bankruptcy. The buyermust be able to prove that there was at least a
20% loss in income before the action took place as well. Although many if the victims are afraid to
get back into the game, they are finding more and better ways than ever before.
Another possibility that has become ever increasingly popular is the rent to own option. Rent to
own is really a lease option, which means that the buyer gets the home now and pays monthly rent
for a predetermined amount of

A Comparison Peter Shaffer s Equus and Albert Camus s The...
The ways in which truths are presented to external audiences concerning outside characters display
not only a good judgment of character on the presenter, but furthermore, the often insignificant
nature of whom the presenter is talking about, even if the insignificance presented is accidental.
Both Peter Shaffers Equusand Albert CamusThe Stranger approach different ways in presenting the
truths of Alan Strang and Meursault to the audience/jury, but one thing remains clear; intentional or
unintentional manipulation of these characters leads to the eternal distrust of the reliability of their
presenters, Martin Dysart and the members of the law.
Through Dysart s self diagnosis given throughout Equus, Shaffer directly conflicts with ... Show

Though fascinated with Alan, as the book progresses, it strays from focus on Alan to Dysart, and
more light is shone on Dysart s own problems. Shaffer gives Dysart numerous monologues, not
concerning Alan, but rather, problems and events he has experienced in his own life, though Alan
has influenced these events. In his opening monologue, Dysart keep[s] thinking about the horse!
Not the boy: the horse (Shaffer 9). Shaffer immediately confronts with Dysart s self centered nature,
for from the beginning, Dysart s mind would rather think about an animal. Nevertheless, the
manipulation of Alan is unintentional, for Dysart does not identify with Alan in order to better
himself, but rather to bring to light problems within himself, displaying further his own selfish
nature. In contrast with The Stranger, the truth is brought out and presented to its entirety to the
audience, but Alan never receives a true diagnosis. It remains up to the reader to decide what went
wrong with Alan, and what caused him to stake out the eyes of the horses. On the other hand, all

The Life And Work Of Confucius Philosophy Essay
Confucius (551 479 BCE), was a thinker, political figure, educator and founder of the Ru School
of Chinese thought. Confucius was born at Shang ping, in the country of Lu. His given name was
Kong, but his disciples called him Kong fu tse, (i.e. Kong the Master, or Teacher.) His father
passed away when he was only three years old. Confucius mother Yan she raised him. During his
younger years Confucius showed a love of learning, and an expression of awe for the ancient laws
of his country.

Some have argued that, because of the text s inconsistencies and incompatibilities of thought, there
is much in the Analects that is non Confucian and should be discarded as a basis for understanding
the thought of Confucius. Benjamin Schwartz cautions us against such radical measures.
While textual criticism based on rigorous philological and historic analysis is crucial, and while the
later sections [of the Analects] do contain late materials, the type of textual criticism that is based
on considerations of alleged logical inconsistencies and incompatibilities of thought must be viewed
with great suspicion. . . . While none of us comes to such an enterprise without deep laid
assumptions about necessary logical relations and compatibilities, we should at least hold before
ourselves the constant injunction to mistrust all our unexamined preconceptions on these matters
when dealing with comparative thought. (The World of Thought in Ancient China, p. 61)
Confucius philosophy was predominately a moral and political one. It was founded on the belief
that heaven and earth coexist in harmony and balanced strength while maintaining a perpetual
dynamism. Human beings, he taught, are sustained by these conditions and must strive to emulate
the cosmic model.

Compare And Contrast Dr Hyde And The Hound Of Baskervilles
All my life I have been wondering about many different things, but it seems as though I never

Baskervilles we read about two mysteries that compel the individuals to thirst for knowledge.
Specifically Utterson and Sherlock both take on mysterious cases that challenge them to reach
out and seek for knowledge. After reading these books I learned that the thirst for knowledge
compels an individual for more. In the book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde we see this thirst for
knowledge in Utterson. Utterson who is a single minded lawyer is compelled solve what is wrong

The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America
Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government
did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the
California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied
the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking
basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most
unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on
freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenationlaw in America was established over 350 years
ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African
American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave
herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not
criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of
Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or
death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many
colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after.
Despite some states constituting strict marriage laws, other states upheld various other political
values in their legal systems. Soon after gaining statehood, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts
repealed

Eliminating Wildcat Class
Wildcat class is a short period that is used mostly by kids to relax or socialize. Principal Ramsey is
considering eliminating the period. Eliminating Wildcat Class would be beneficial to the students at
West Ridge Middle School. First, it would allow for more instructional time, and it would benefit
the student body s safety.
More instructional time would allow the students a larger understanding of the topic. Even though,
it only adds four minutes to each class, when combining many days worth of extra time, it adds up
to a exceptional amount of instructional time. In many students classes, the teacher is unable to
finish explaining the lesson. If four minutes were to be added, the class would be able to learn and
move on to another topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Ramsey has stated that: Most students seem to socialize or play on their iPads... If a student
uses Wildcat Class to complete some of their homework, students could just spend an extra fifteen
minutes working at home. Many teachers allow students to work on their homework around the
end of a period, so adding four minutes to each class would also allow for a student to work on
homework. The school does not even assign a large amount of homework; the largest workload I
have heard a student given was one or two hours. Another person may argue that students often
hurry to their method of transportation after 7th period, often forgetting their assigned homework.
The students that travel home via bus would hurry because they are afraid that the bus would leave
them behind; that would be easily remedied. If students did not hurry, the buses would be obligated
to wait for the rest of the students that traveled by bus. If a student had forgotten their homework,
then the student could go to school earlier in the morning to finish the work, or they could check

Marie Antoinette s Influence On France
Marie Antoinette
Part I: Introduction
Marie Antoinette was the queen of France and could be seen as a controversial figure. She grew
up in Austria and later moved to France, causing an outrage since she was an outsider.. Many
events were blamed on her which had a huge impact on France. Many opposed her due to her poor
leadership skills and lack of interest in the people. Marie Antoinette, along with her husband Louis
XVI, came into power at a difficult time. France was in debt and revolutions were rising.
Unfortunately, Marie Antoinette lacked the leadership and confidence necessary to rule. The time
period of her rule was during the Enlightenment in the late 1700 s. Marie Antoinette was later
executed in the guillotine for being found guilty of treason. Marie Antoinette, the queen of France,
greatly impacted the history of Western Civilization by her excessive spending, her incompetence to
rule, and her flight to Varennes.
Part II: Background
On November 22, 1755, Marie Antoinette, who had a great impact on France, was born. She
would later become the queen of France. Marie Antoinette was brought up by her parents, Empress
Maria Theresa and Francis of Lorraine in Vienna, Austria. She was born into the wealthy Hapsburg
family and was the fifteenth in the birth order out of sixteen children (Lotz and Phillips, 11). As a

However, one aspect of Homer s epic may have been more of an aspiration than a true reflection of

Similar to what Dana Stevens is taking about in finding credibility in a television like 24, Jason
Zinser looks at this question in his article, The Good, the Bad, and The Daily Show. . Zinser
addresses both the benefits and downfalls of television, but ultimately ends up taking a stand
somewhere in the middle of how t.v. is both good and bad for people. Zinser s believes that The
Daily Show can be used as a starting point from which people can gain an understanding of
current events but it s not the most useful way. He claims that this type of information people
gain from watching a comedy news show can be both useful but damaging. The question that
needs to be addressed though, is why does it matter where people are gaining their knowledge
about the world and critical events as long as they are gaining some knowledge from what they re
watching. As Zinser states, An informed public is the grease that keeps democracy running
properly. Although foreign and domestic issues aren t settled by popular vote, an informed public
wields great democratic power . It doesn t matter whether information comes from a comedy news
show or from a hard hitting formal newscast, any information that a person gains from television is
far better than receiving no information at all, because if the public is informed about the news in
the world they have an understanding of it and could possibly make decision about things

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. (Tolkien 1)
In this poem, Tolkien describes the Ring as one would describe a person. Tolkien gives the Ring
several human characteristics. In line six of poem, Tolkien says that this Ring has the power to
rule over the people like a king. Tolkien also states in line six and seven that the Ring has the
power to find people and bring them together. He also says that the Ring ability to bind the people
together even through the darkness (Tolkien 1). By using personification, Tolkien was able to quite
literally bring the Ring to life. Tolkien uses irony throughout The Lord of the Rings, but
particularly in the Prologue of The Fellowship of the Rings. In this section of the book, he speaks
of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins and of finding the Ring. In this section of narration, Tolkien leads the
reader to believe that the ring will be found by people of diminutive size (Ari 1). Before Bilbo
Baggins ever finds the ring, Gollum, who is similar to the hobbits, finds the ring and takes it for
himself. Gollum chose to use the Ring in a corrupt way, but Bilbo Baggins chose to use the Ring
for good. This is an example of situational irony, because two similar characters take drastically

Within the three great religions it is generally recognized that the Hebrew patriarch Abraham,
through his recognition of one God, initiated the primary and pivotal acceptance of the necessity
of monotheism. This embrace of the reality of the existence of the one, supreme, and infinite God
was called Kiddush Hashem , or sanctifying the name of God by the Hebrews (Aish). Reflections
of the Kiddush Hashem can be found in the three primary prayers of the monotheistic religions:
The Islamic Shahada: la ilaha illa Allah (there is no God but God)(George 27); The Jewish Shema:
Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad... (Hear Israel
! The Lord our God, the Lord is One);
The Catholic Nicene Creed: We believe in one God... (Catholic Encyclopedia). In the formations
of these religions we can see foreshadowed the current strife and often deadlocked political state
of Israel. The Christian Bible (and thusly the Jewish Torah, which is contained within its Old

love and service to others. In fact, in Surah 5:28 of the Quran Muhammad is quoted as saying You

Conflict Resolution Of The Workplace
Conflict in the Workplace Kara K. Martin University of South Dakota Abstract While an
individual may attempt to avoid conflict in the workplace, there is no way to actually escape it.
In the workplace environment, there are a variety of co worker relationships and challenging
work situations that may increase our emotional response. Therefore, it is important for
employees to have the skills and abilities to recognize when conflict occurs, identify the type of
conflict, and to implement effective strategies that will bring about a rapid resolution to the
conflict which satisfies all stakeholders. Many people allow themselves to become emotional
which is ineffectual when conflict occurs. Other individuals are fearful of conflict in the
workplace and hope that if they bury their heads in the sand the situation may resolve on its own
without any interventions. Unfortunately, very seldom does conflict in the workplace resolve on
its own accord. In order to prevent conflict from escalating, it is imperative for employees to take
a proactive approach and implement strategies which provide a framework for conflict resolution.
Methods for conflict resolution are provided with Bernard Mayer s Wheel of Conflict (Mayer,
2000) and Christopher Moore s Triangle of Satisfaction (Moore, 2003). This paper will provide an
analysis of a workplace conflict and demonstrate conflict resolution utilizing each method.

Emile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms Of The Religious Life
Г‰mile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life examines religion through a
social viewpoint, while Claude LГ©vi Strauss s The Savage Mind compares modern and primitive
thought. Although their topics of interest differ, both works similarly rely on science to explain
their anthropologic theories. Scienceserves as a useful reference point, since it embodies modern
mode of thinking with high objectivity. Therefore, these writers can expand on their analysis of
other ways to perceive the world by comparing and contrasting with science. The relations created
between science and organized humanthought unravel how these anthropologists view science.
Durkheim s and Levi Strauss s allusions to science support their respective arguments about religion
and mythical thought, while revealing anthropology s general perspective of science.
Durkheim argues that religion shares fundamental qualities with science, exposing his beliefs on
the purpose of science. First, Durkheim notes, most of the time debates on the topic of religion turn

due to the cosmological aspects being disproved with empirical evidence. In many theorists eyes,

The Federal Reserve Board Is A Regulating Body That...
The Federal Reserve Board is a regulating body that determines how United States will lend money
by coordinating the banks and defining the value of the dollar. A Governor on the Federal Reserve
board communicates with the twelve region s bank presidents, economic analysts, and their
regional directors, and collectively define the dollar by selling long term and short term bonds that
advance a percentage of the worth. Once an agreement has been made upon fraction percentage,
banks are required to maintain that stated amount in a Federal Reservevault, or the bank s vault.
The Federal Reserve loans temporary funds to the banks that do not meet the reserve requirement
in the form of a short term loan, usually overnight. A large amount of the Federal Reserve Board s
time is spent discussing fractions of a percent on specific money related rates which steers the
economy.
THE UNITED STATES FEDERAL RESERVE S IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY
The Federal Reserve was created by an ACT of the U.S. Congress in 1913. Markets very often
were unstable due to the public having very little faith and trust in the private banking system,
which was self evident during several periods in our countries history, most notable the run on the
banks in the 1920s and 1930s. The Federal Reserve was created as an independent entity, however

Scurvy Is Not A Disease
Scurvy is not a disease that is not talked about often. Before the twenty first century, scurvy was
prevalent in nearly every part of the world. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is
not generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry
about. While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible
and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin Cadded to the diet to offset what has been
missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were
many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and
infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with
scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were
among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was
effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited
with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely
common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well. The people most effected by
scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California, and Irish and English populations
during the Great Potato Famine. Scientists discovered an antiscorbutic factor that citrus fruits and

The On The Beauty Of Lionfish
Lionfish come with red, maroon or brown stripes and specks on their body and flashy fins. Their
beautiful long fins flowing gracefully in the water and dramatic colors are fascinating and
inspiring. No doubt lionfish are one of popular aquarium fishes as well as painting subjects. As my
final project, I want to create a captivating image, while enjoying exploration of the beauty and
details of lionfish. For the underwater backdrop, I want to suggest a coral reef environment. A
solid or simple blueunderwater backdrop would be sufficient to show the beauty of lionfish, but it
is too plain for my taste. I decide to paint underwater ripples along with a brain coral. The
challenge is creating a background that doesn t compete against the flamboyant and colorful
lionfish, yet adds enough interest to the viewer s eye.
Palette : new gamboge, quinacridone gold, phthalo green, cobalt turquoise, phthalo blue,
ultramarine blue, Prussian blue, indigo, burnt sienna, brown madder, magenta, purple
1. I sketch out the Lionfish first on tracing paper. I have a few reference photos of lionfish,
however none of them has a perfect form of their fins. After I select one which has a good body
shape, I alter the imperfect fin shapes. Once I finalize the shapes of the fins, I draw the details of
stripes on the body and fins. I also pay close attention to fin rays and specks. When I finish
working on the lionfish, I draw the outline of the dome shaped brain coral and a few lines across the

LITERATURE REVIEW A non performing loan is an advance by a financial institution that is not
earning income and full payment of principal. As such interest is no longer anticipated (Van
Greuning, Bratavonic, 2003). There is no global standard to define non performing loans at the
practical level. Variations exist in terms of the classification system, the scope, and contents. This
pitfall potentially adds to disorder and uncertainty in the non performing loans subject. For instance,
as described by Park (2003), during the 1990s,

Women in Civil War
Women, Slaves, and Free Blacks in the Civil War What roles did the Northern women play in
the war effort on the Union side during the Civil War? What roles did the Southern women play
in the war effort on the Confederate side during the Civil War? How did the war affect each
group? There were just shy of 400 documented cases of women who served as soldiers during the
Civil War, according to the records of the Sanitary Commission. (Brown, 2012) Women during the
19th century, according to Historian Barbara Welters were hostage of the home . (Brown, 2012)
Women were considered what we know now as home wives, without really the option of doing
anything outside of the home. When the Civil War began, that meant that men left home... Show

There were others that were about of the regiments in which the male relative was serving.
These women camp followers tended to the sick, cleaned weapons, cooked, and help take care
of the sick. (Middle Tennessee State University Teaching with Primary Sources, 2015) In my
own opinion I believe the war had a great effect on the women of both the North and the South.
Without them, I don t believe there would have been enough nurses to have saved the men they
did and there wouldn t have been anything at home for all left on the home front. Because of the
war, we have great American History about women and the impact they had on the Civil War
and after. Which I believe led to a huge part of the Women s Rights Movement. What roles did
the Black slaves play in the Civil War? What roles did the free Blacks play in the Civil War?
How did the war affect each group? It took a clear and dire urging from the beloved General
Robert E. Lee to convince the Confederate Congress to begin enlisting black soldiers. (Civil War
Trust, 2015) Black men had tried to volunteer their services to the Union but because of President
Lincoln being afraid of what it would do to the white men s morale, he rejected the blacks from
volunteering for the war. However, in saying that, it did changed. President Lincoln passed the
Emancipation Proclamation, which stated All persons held as slaves within any States...in rebellion

How Does Priestley Present Inequality In An Inspector Calls
In 1944 the play An inspector calls was created and was set in 1912. During this time period men
were noted to be superior to women, as they represented the family as their last name would be
the family s surname. Priestly explains the idea of inequality in the play an inspector calls
through social statuses and classes. The head of the family Mr Birling, has a bourgeoisie like
attitude meaning that he is of a high status and most presumably right wing. Inequality is shown
when Eva Smith and her work mates ask for a pay rise, Mr Birling rejects as he does not want
increase their wage even though he can afford to do so as the cut will not intervene with him
financially, in fact Arthur Birling feels the need to repress the workers of his company otherwise
he believes they will develop class consciousness and become greedy and they would soon be
asking for the earth , and in the theory of Marxism they would be classed as proletariat, which was
theorised by Karl Marx. Priestly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gerald Croft and his daughter Sheila Birling, Mr Birling was considerably boasting as he

right winged, however, he doesn t believe in community and all that nonsense and supposes that
communities are over populated as if were all mixed up together like bees in a hive . This simile

wealth with them which he could do but otherwise represses. The fact that he

Effects Of Colonization On The Africana Continent
Effects of colonization on the Africana continent are undisputed. Valuable natural resources were
exploited from the countries by the native people for profit in Europe leaving many with
minimum means to survive. Lands and families that had torn apart at the hands of the colonists
were trying to be rebuilt. Peoples culture and traditions, viewed as barbaric and backward by the
powerful Europeans, were once again weaving itself into daily lives. Pride was once again among
the people. Jomo Kenyatta, known as the Father of the Kenyan Nation, was a man who came from
the land he was fighting to reclaim for himself and his people. Land that was simply taken from

Kikuyu word for a type of belt he wore, and then the first name Jomo.
Around 1922, Jomo Kenyatta left for the urban life of Nairobi and worked as a clerk in the
Public Works Department. It was in Nairobi that he became involved in early African protest
movements and joined the Kikuyu Central Association (KCA) in 1924. First Pan Kenyan

colonial authorities in 1922 and was exiled for 7 years. His arrest resulted in the massacre of 23
Africans outside Nairobi s police station. He was released only after agreeing to cooperate with the
colonials, a decision that cost him the leadership of the Kikuyus. This incident united Kenya s
African communities and set the stage for the entry of Jomo Kenyatta, who stepped in and filled
the leadership after Thuku.

Marshall Mather Research Paper
Anyone who may know Marshall Mathers might find him as an influential person. Marshall
Mathers, also known as Eminem, was bullied as a kid for being small. Marshall wrote songs about
any moment that did happen in his life. Marshall had been through many situations not many
would think about. Marshall has been abused. depressed, addicted, bipolar disorders, and drug
abuse. Marshall does anything he possibly could for his daughters. Marshall Mathers is a positive
influential person because he went through situations and ended up a better person and overcame
many problems which no one would ever believe.
In Marshall s childhood he never finished high school due to many factors in his home life.
Marshall Mather moved schools two or three times a year therefore he was bullied for numerous
reasons. Marshall would study the dictionary to find better words to rhyme in his songs (Khurram).
Despite the fact Marshall failed High School three times before dropping out, Marshall was in fact
great at english (Hanneman). Eminem s song Brain Damage is about a bully he had in school that
led him to a coma (Hanneman). It is important because Marshall had a rough childhood and that led
him to some of the decisions he had made now. In addition to this, he had troubles with his wife,

Comparison Of King Lear And Gloucester Essay
Shakespeare uses subplots to dramatize the action of the play and give spark on the contrast for the
themes in King Lear. Sub plots usually improve the effect of dramatic irony and suspense. The
latter, which is used in King Lear, gives us the understanding of the emotions of the characters in
the play. This follows the parallelism between Gloucesterand King Lear.
In King Lear, the subplot of Gloucester corresponds to the major plot of King Lear. Both fathers
have their own loyal legitimate child and their evil and disloyal child. They are both honourable
men, who have children that return to them in their time of need. Gloucester and Lear are both
tormented, and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gloucester s death in the subplot is a parallel to that of King Lear s in the main plot. Though
Gloucester does not have the tragic catastrophic death of King Lear. King Lear s anguish led him
to insanity while Gloucester is led to despair and attempts suicide. Before Gloucester s attempt at
suicide, he realizes that he has wronged Edgar and condemns his blindness of Edmund s plans.
My father, poorly led? World, world, O world! But that thy strange mutations make us hate thee,
Life would not yield to age. (Act 4 Scene 1 Pg. 207 lines 10 12) This parallels Lear s death as he
also condemns his daughter Cordelia. I have seen the day, with my good biting falchion I would
have made em skip. I am old now, And these same crosses spoil me. Who are you? Mine eyes are
not o the best, I ll tell you straight. (Act 5 Scene 3 pg. 317 lines 276 279) Both deaths run on the
same train tracks, as King Lear and Gloucester die as better and wiser men than they showed
themselves at first.
Throughout the play, Shakespeare uses the contrast through other characters such as Cordelia and
Edgar, who hides in the beginning and then later reveal themselves to conquer and defeat evil
forces. Subplots do make the play better all around and make the audience want to know more and
enjoy it. Lear and Gloucester even are totally different people but live in a parallel world, they are

The Survival Of Organisms Depends On Adaptive Behavior And...
Survival of organisms depends on adaptive behavior and species interactions. Taxis is less or
more automatic movement towards or away from a stimulus or direct movement. An example
of taxis is when a plant is put by a windowsill. The plant grows towards the light. Another
example is when stream fish automatically swim upward in the upstream direction. This example
is considered positive taxis. This type of taxis allows the fish to swim in the direction of food
and allows them to not be swept away. Kinesis is a simple change in activity or turning rate in
response to a stimulus or random movement in response to stimulus. An example of kinesis is
when sow bugs become more active in dry areas and less active in humid areas. Sow bugs does
vary depending on humidity, however sow bugs do not move toward or away from suitable
moisture levels. Both taxis and kinesis will guarantee that organisms will remain in environments
that increase their chances of survival. When organisms are put into critical conditions its activities
will decrease, although when an organism is put into positive conditions the organism will stay in
that condition for the longest time possible. This behavior will increase the survivorship of
individuals of a species. Migration is a regular long distance change in location. During migration
many animals pass through environments that they have not formally been too before. Migration
can be caused by seasonal changes. For example, some bird species migrate

Examples Of Causative Verbs
Causative verb is used when talking about something that someone else did for another person. It
means that the subject caused the action to happen, but didn t do it themselves. Maybe they paid,
or asked, or persuaded the other person to do it. Causative verbs express an action which is
caused to happen. In other words, when someone has something done for me him cause it to
happen. In other words, he does not actually do anything, but asks someone else to do it for him.
This is the sense of causative verbs. Intermediate to advanced level English learners should study
the causative verbas an alternative to the passive voice (Dixon, R.M.W. 2000b:87).

In The devil made me do it. the verb made causes the do to happen. Here is a brief list of
causative verbs, in no particular order: let, help, allow, have, require, allow, motivate, get, make,
convince, hire, assist, encourage, permit, employ, force. Most of them are followed by an object
(noun or pronoun) followed by an infinitive: She allows her pet cockatiel to perch on the
windowsill. She hired a carpenter to build a new birdcage (Ibid:65 68) . Three causative verbs
are exceptions to the pattern described above. Instead of being followed by a noun/pronoun and
an infinitive, the causative verbs have, make and let are followed by a noun/pronoun and the base
form of the verb (which is actually an infinitive with the to left off). Causative verbs also indicate
that some person or thing helps to bring about a new state of affairs In other words, a causative
verb shows that someone or something somehow causes something to happen. The verb might be
strong in meaning and imply force. The Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English divides
causative verbs into two

Chickenpox- A Viral Disease
Chickenpox is a viral disease caused by the Varicella zoster virus which is a DNA virus that is a
member of the herpesvirus group. The virus undergoes a lysogenic cycle in which the virus
replicates its DNA to make new virus particles. The varicella zoster virus is spherical in shape.
Chickenpox s history has various contributors. Several corpses have been found with chickenpoxas
the apparent cause of death. In the 1500s, an Italian physician Giovanni Filippo gave the first
description of varicella in literature and clearly distinguished it from scarlet fever; he is also
known for other several important contributions to medicine, anatomy, and virology. In the late
1600s, English physician Richard Morton gave the name chickenpox to what he thought was a
milder form of smallpox. Another English physician, William Heberden, undertook the first
independent study of the disease in 1767, and he proved that chickenpox was actually different
from smallpox. Since then much more information has been learned about chickenpox. Varicella
is highly contagious. The virus spreads in the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes; there
are droplets with the virus in the air. The incubation period for varicella is 14 to 16 days after
exposure to a varicella rash, with a range of 10 to 21 days ( Clinical Overview ). Chickenpox
displays several symptoms, but they can vary from person to person.
The most common symptom is an uncomfortable, itch rash of red blisters scattered

Hellenistic Monks
A monastic community is a place where women or men live out vows of obedience, poverty, and
chastity. The monks of Norcia are an international community with a median age of 36. This
brotherhood unites them to one to another by their common search for God. The three
characteristics of a monastery are prayer, observance, and liturgical life.
Described by the Rule of St. Benedict, the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) marks hours
of the day dedicated to the prayer life of the monks. Additional prayers such as the Jesus Prayer, the
Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and Lectio Divina Prayers add to the daily round of Mass and
Offices as spiritual nourishment. Aspects of observance are St. Benedict s fast, chanting of the
Office, the observance of silence, and abstinence from meat. Monks foster the reconciliation in the
heart of the Church through the careful celebration of the liturgy. The liturgy is the public prayer of
the Church that celebrates what God has done for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benedict said, Keep death daily before your eyes. St. Benedict s saying refers to more than
physical death, but also death to self. A monk is called to this daily, such as leaving family,
friends, and home. Through prayer and daily conversion, the monks die to self and remain hidden
or forgotten. They observe the many rules of Saint Benedict s outline for monastic life,
dependability to prayer, vigil, and fasting. The beauty of the Church s liturgical tradition
communicates the peace of Christ to the rest of world.
The Rule of Saint Benedict is a book of precepts written by Benedict of Nursia for monks living
under an abbot. It is summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: ora et labora,
which means pray and work. This rule has been used by Benedictines for fifteen centuries. The
model for the monastic life is based on a family, with the abbot as father and all monks as

Why did the U.S. Pursue Imperialism The US begun to close the frontier which increased fears
that the resources the country had were dwindling. This fear of dwindling resources would push

  • 2. The Glue That Makes All The Good Grades Think Back to high school, when you were in class with 30 other students. You do all the work, make all the good grades and someone else gets all the credit. In my high school days, we called these people teachers pets . These people made it seem like everything was about them. They wanted to control everything and most of the students wanted to tellthis student off but couldn t because the teacher would always take their side. Now, in this play we have a mother named Amanda and like the teacher s pet, Amanda wants to control every aspect of her children s life. May I add, that the children that she tried to control are well above the legal adult age. The children, like the other students in the classroom, wanted to tell her off but it wouldn t be of any value because they had no backing. Amanda is truly the glue that makes this play what it is today. Amanda is the most important character in this play because she wants to live her life through her kids, everything that went wrong was because of her, and because of her nagging ways. Amanda truly wants to live her life though her children life at any cost. Just like any parent Amanda wants to have her children succeed in life. She truly wants her children to go on and enjoy their life and I believe that she feels disappointed because she can t give them what they need to survive the rest of their life s because she isn t financially stable enough for this. Since she can t give them what they need, she pushes them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He trained pigeons to do tricks after he saw them performing one year at a fair. Training the pigeons probably was where he got his ideas of operant conditioning. He attended Susquehanna High School just like his mother and father. In his graduating class there were only eight people including him. He was a very intellectual person. He reported that he really enjoyed school. Over the four years in high school Skinner became good at math and reading Latin, but was no good at science. He was always performing physical and chemical experiments while he was at home. His father was a book collector. Skinner always had a good library of books around his house. Skinner recalled the little collection of applied psychology journals that his father had bought. Those books could have been the starting point in his psychology career. Skinner grew up in a very religious family. After high school Skinner went to Hamilton College where he majored in English Literature and minored in Romance Languages. Skinner s freshman year did not turn out to be what he expected. He felt that the college was pushing him around with unnecessary requirements, such as daily chapel and physical education. Skinner s college life became better as the years went on. He was very comfortable with college life by his senior year. • 4. The Soviet Leader Vladimir Lenin And The New Millennium Essay Introduction: One step forwards, two steps back. This was the mantra of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin as he consolidated power during the 2nd Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1903 (Lenin 1941). In the statement, Lenin illustrates the idea that every attempt or step towards progress only succeeded in creating new challenges, new problems, out from the woodworks. Sixteen years into the 21st Century, this catchphrase seems to be the running theme, or perhaps joke, of the new millennium. The internet has connected all of humanity in ways that have never before been seen throughout the history of mankind, yet it also opened the door for cyber terrorism, illegal surveillance, and the efficient propagation of dangerous hateful ideologies. Progress in the field of medicine races forwards at the speed of light, but pharmaceutical companies are greedy. They hold onto their patents with vice grips and raise prices of essential medications while they cost only pennies to produce. Progress is like Pandora s box in that it proliferates the spread of evil, greed, and corruption, while the fragile hope that remains in the jar continues the human race in its attempts to move forward. We tell ourselves, Maybe we ll get it right this time. This time we ll learn for our predecessors mistakes. Very rarely do these hopes materialize. Politics, especially politics, have not escaped this one step forwards, two steps back mantra. Laws have been put into place to protect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ethnicity and Exclusion through Space Chapter two Methodology The first point of call was to have a clear and sharp understanding of the dissertation topic and this was done through the use of online research as there is a vast amount of information that can be collected in relation to integrating communities. This was then followed by the key significance to the main objective which is gathering data. To help with the findings and analysis, the research has to be focused more on areas where communities benefit through people of different backgrounds living together and sharing basic commodities, these could be sharing a kitchen, communal gardens, open spaces and even a bench in the public park.2 As there are quite a number of diverse people in the community, a lot of information was collected from them through one on one discussion. Although the information collected was not very satisfactory, care had to be taken as to select what to use. This was also the issue with selecting case studies which deals specifically with sociable housing which in these communities is widely known as co housing. The evidence collected from sources had to be carefully selected and used accordingly. A model was then developed to assess how people of different background can be incorporated through various substances. This was then implemented within separate case studies and the results explored and analysed. The model was then tried on another project to see if it works. The method of research used in this thesis is by use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently, many are unfamiliar with the essentials of the historical society, or more significantly, indicate a considerable amount of indifference towards the study of it. Novels, such as The Return of Martin Guerre, can often be considered dull and boring to many first year students but film would serve as a suitable version because it provides a calmer appealing design and right atmosphere for students to learn from. To first year students, viewing a historical film like this, would challenge even the best historical films that they would have previously watched. Excellent visualization and acting constantly fascinates the audience, allowing them to imaginary go into the world and form an outlook on many of the ideologies and cultures of the time for example family life, politics and ... • 7. The Human Development Index ( Hdi ) Throughout the history of civilization, poverty has remained an unfortunate characteristic of society contributing to restrained development. This trend became a prominent characteristic during the medieval age in Europe as the feudal system created strong autocrats who treated the poor with scorn and disrespect, and now it is has continued into today s society (Davis). One of the most notable locations of this trend is Haiti. With staggering poverty rates and deplorable health standards, Haiti has the lowest development rate in the Western Hemisphere (The Haitian People). Haiti s development is verified by its Human Development Index (HDI). Established by the United Nations, a world organization dedicated to the development and safety of the world s countries, an HDI is a value ranging from zero in less developed nations and one in more developed nations that measures several statistics directly related to poverty including life expectancy at birth, national education rates, and gross national income (2015 Human Development Report). Although not an exact measure of poverty, the HDI functions as a simplified representation of poverty. Currently, Haiti has a concerningly low HDI of .483, and it is not growing quickly (Human Development Reports). If Haiti is to raise its HDI and decrease its poverty, they must settle on a solution. Because the HDI is so closely related to poverty, and it is much more focused and simplified, it is more logical and more efficient for Haiti to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ariel is forced to remain with him until the tasks he requires are complete. This accounts for Ariel s present servitude to Prospero, confirmed in the spirit s first utterance, All hail, great master! (1.2.189). Ariel begins to come to the end of his expected time trapped as a servant. He begins to become very excited at the thought of his future freedom, dreaming about his days away from his enslavement. This feeling is seen when he says: Where the bee sucks, there suck I/In a cowslip s bell I lie./There I couch when owls do cry./On the bat s back I do fly/After summer merrily. /Merrily, merrily shall I live now/Under the blossom that hangs on the bow. Instantly, Fox News had reported that a commercial plane had smashed into the Twin Towers of New York City, just minutes earlier. While the story was certainly shocking, I wanted to know more and watched the horrific aftermath unfold, as it continued to happen. I remember an incredible feeling of sadness that I could do nothing to help the people in these buildings, as well as a great concern that more attempts could be made to create further tragedy elsewhere. As time went on that morning, sketchy pieces of information about rescue plans and other efforts came to light; screen shots of the downtown devastation permeated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned earlier, for example, the images of the second plane flying into the building will surely stay with me; however, smaller details of the incident, which have become generalized over the years, are not nearly as clear or in order like they were on the day they happened. This is not at all surprising, since according to Perina (2002), flashbulb memories do, in fact, degrade over a short period of time (para. 1). The extent to which these events fade or change in our thoughts can vary in degree, and is generally believed to be directly proportionate to a person s level of involvement in the events that occurred. How accurate is this memory now? Although, according to my recollections, much of that morning seems to be more precisely recorded and recalled than other events I have experienced, further indications are that this may not be so, for research shows that... supposed flashbulb memories are not necessarily any more accurate than other memories (ScienCentral, 2007, para. 6). To easily illustrate these findings, minor details, which were a part of my memory during or shortly after the attacks, have since been forgotten. Examples of such information are: names of rescuers and firemen mentioned during broadcasts, flight numbers of the planes used in the tragedy, and the identities of the passengers aboard each plane. • 16. Female Oppression In Movies Oppression is an issue that some women deal with every day. In my project, I will give examples of how black women are subjected to oppression in film. I will be analyzing two different creators a male and a female. I will analyze their work. Looking, specifically at Alice Walker s the Color Purple and Tyler Perry s Why Did I Get Married. Both films are different because of their plots, setting, and era s the films were made in. However, they are also alike in various ways. One of the main commonalities is that both films depict black female oppression. The leading female characters in these films are subjected to oppression such as: verbal abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, and emotional abuse. I will use this essay to analysis these films and the creative forces behind them. I will also reference many primary and secondary sources. The information collected from these references will be used to answer the questions: How do the creative forces such as Alice Walkerand her story the Color Purpleand the creative forces of Tyler Perry and his work in Why Did I Get Married compare in their depiction of black female oppression? How accurate of a portrayal is the oppression of black women in film? What message are they trying to portray? How does black female oppression in film compare to white female oppression in film? The information in the essay will help prove that creative forces, whether black male or black female can create work that supports the black feminist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. A Brief Note On Stones River National Battlefield Stones River National Battlefield Stones River Battlefield was an obvious choice for this assignment. I live and study in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I know that there is a lot of history in the area, but it is not often that we encounter this history on a daily basis. It is important to know about the historybecause it helps us to understand the present and the culture of any area. I found that this battlefield was actually very important to the events of the Civil War, therefore, I knew that this would be a great place for me to visit for this assignment. There really is not that much literature readily available about the Battle of Stones Riveror the Battlefield. Therefore, taking the battlefield in in person becomes even more critical. It is amazing to see that the battlefield has been preserved as well as it has been especially given the rapid industrialization that has occurred in the city where it is located. I was able to locate a publication printed by the National Parks Service that explains how the battlefield changed in the early 1990s. From this publication, I found some startling information. The battlefield is located near a part of Murfreesboro that is rapidly expanding and has been for some time. Not surprisingly, many of the original structures have been completely removed to make way for housing divisions and shopping strip malls. During the Civil War, there was a farmhouse located near the battlefield. The Confederate soldiers had to pass the house and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Plan For New Homes With the economic crash that started in 2007 and continued for a couple years countless men and woman lost their jobs and homes. Due in part to the ability to over extend themselves they were maxed out in their credit to debt ratios, struggling just to make ends meet. Thankfully, with the downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce back. Many today are beginning to enter back into the housing market looking for new homes, although this time instead of trying to find the max they can afford, they are now more concerned with the payment they can afford. These newly educated buyers have learned a few ways to come back stronger than ever and stay on top thanks to their shortcomings from the past. One of such ways is by a federal program called The back to work program , which helps out those who lost their homes due to the crash. This program is federally insured and offers buyers the second chance they need in as little as 12 months after a foreclosure or bankruptcy. The buyermust be able to prove that there was at least a 20% loss in income before the action took place as well. Although many if the victims are afraid to get back into the game, they are finding more and better ways than ever before. Shaffer gives Dysart numerous monologues, not concerning Alan, but rather, problems and events he has experienced in his own life, though Alan has influenced these events. In his opening monologue, Dysart keep[s] thinking about the horse! Not the boy: the horse (Shaffer 9). Shaffer immediately confronts with Dysart s self centered nature, for from the beginning, Dysart s mind would rather think about an animal. Nevertheless, the manipulation of Alan is unintentional, for Dysart does not identify with Alan in order to better himself, but rather to bring to light problems within himself, displaying further his own selfish nature. In contrast with The Stranger, the truth is brought out and presented to its entirety to the audience, but Alan never receives a true diagnosis. It remains up to the reader to decide what went wrong with Alan, and what caused him to stake out the eyes of the horses. On the other hand, all kinds of faults are presented within Dysart, like his impotence, or his inability to find something to become passionate about. • 25. The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenationlaw in America was established over 350 years ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after. • 37. Conflict Resolution Of The Workplace Conflict in the Workplace Kara K. Martin University of South Dakota Abstract While an individual may attempt to avoid conflict in the workplace, there is no way to actually escape it. In the workplace environment, there are a variety of co worker relationships and challenging work situations that may increase our emotional response. Therefore, it is important for employees to have the skills and abilities to recognize when conflict occurs, identify the type of conflict, and to implement effective strategies that will bring about a rapid resolution to the conflict which satisfies all stakeholders. Many people allow themselves to become emotional which is ineffectual when conflict occurs. Other individuals are fearful of conflict in the workplace and hope that if they bury their heads in the sand the situation may resolve on its own without any interventions. Unfortunately, very seldom does conflict in the workplace resolve on its own accord. In order to prevent conflict from escalating, it is imperative for employees to take a proactive approach and implement strategies which provide a framework for conflict resolution. Methods for conflict resolution are provided with Bernard Mayer s Wheel of Conflict (Mayer, 2000) and Christopher Moore s Triangle of Satisfaction (Moore, 2003). This paper will provide an analysis of a workplace conflict and demonstrate conflict resolution utilizing each method. Keywords: conflict, framework, resolution, Triangle of Satisfaction, ... Crime movies often move slowly, they build up suspense and situations and they give you a bone here and there so you don t get bored and stay until the climax of the story. Pulp Fiction is unique, it s wonderfully written so each line fits on the designated actor. The story continues on and on with always interesting dialogs. The story takes its wild turns, one more unexpected than the last one. Moments that will take you by surprise are bound to happen. The writing is really fluent in the sense that in each individual scene there s so much to like, and the best part of it, is the fact that none of the direction or the writing ever seems forced, but quite natural. Although their topics of interest differ, both works similarly rely on science to explain their anthropologic theories. Scienceserves as a useful reference point, since it embodies modern mode of thinking with high objectivity. Therefore, these writers can expand on their analysis of other ways to perceive the world by comparing and contrasting with science. The relations created between science and organized humanthought unravel how these anthropologists view science. Durkheim s and Levi Strauss s allusions to science support their respective arguments about religion and mythical thought, while revealing anthropology s general perspective of science. Durkheim argues that religion shares fundamental qualities with science, exposing his beliefs on the purpose of science. First, Durkheim notes, most of the time debates on the topic of religion turn around and about on the question of whether religion can or cannot be reconciled with science (Durkheim 419). Religion s compatibility with the modern world of science comes into question, due to the cosmological aspects being disproved with empirical evidence. The Federal Reserve Board is a regulating body that determines how United States will lend money by coordinating the banks and defining the value of the dollar. A Governor on the Federal Reserve board communicates with the twelve region s bank presidents, economic analysts, and their regional directors, and collectively define the dollar by selling long term and short term bonds that advance a percentage of the worth. Once an agreement has been made upon fraction percentage, banks are required to maintain that stated amount in a Federal Reservevault, or the bank s vault. With today s amazing advances in medicine, scurvy is not generally a disease that most people in America or other civilized countries need to worry about. While it is rare, scurvy does occur and it is incredibly treatable. The symptoms are reversible and treatment is easy with the right amount of vitamin Cadded to the diet to offset what has been missing. Scurvy is a disease that has been around since ancient times. Originally, there were many different ideas about what caused scurvy. Genetics, toxins, the environment, and infections were among many of the explanations for scurvy. Of all the people afflicted with scurvy, the most numerous were sailors. Surgeons and doctors out at sea with the sailors were among the first to be able to describe the disease in clinical detail and find a treatment that was effective in clearing up scurvy. Sir James Lind, a surgeon for the British Navy, has been credited with finding an easy way to treat scurvy; with lemons and oranges. While scurvy was extremely common while out at sea, cases still came about on land as well. The people most effected by scurvy on land were civil war soldiers, gold rushers in California, and Irish and English populations during the Great Potato Famine. Taxis is less or more automatic movement towards or away from a stimulus or direct movement. An example of taxis is when a plant is put by a windowsill. The plant grows towards the light. Another example is when stream fish automatically swim upward in the upstream direction. This example is considered positive taxis. In the 1500s, an Italian physician Giovanni Filippo gave the first description of varicella in literature and clearly distinguished it from scarlet fever; he is also known for other several important contributions to medicine, anatomy, and virology.
