How Did Germany Lose Ww2
In the beginning of World War II, Germany seemed to be on a path to dominating Europe. Our
world could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it
didn t. Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one
caused it to lose the war: Germanys loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall.
This is because the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and
because it gave the Allies a geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted
until it finally surrendered in 1945. One of the primary reasons the North African campaign was so
damaging was because of the resources lost by its failure. The Germans lost thousands of... Show

The largest of these was access to the Mediterranean and Italy. Up until this point, routes of
delivery [from the Allies to the USSR] were long, roundabout, and difficult because the
Mediterranean and the Baltic were closed to Allied cargo vessels. (Greenfield, 228) Now, using
ports and outposts in Africa, the Mediterranean was open and the USSR could get the
reinforcements it needed to begin its fatal push into Germany. At the same time, Britain and the
US were able to begin the Italian campaign, overthrowing one of Germany s main allies and
supporters and beginning their own push into Germany. Losing control of Africa provided the
Allies with a strategic advantage that Germany didn t have the resources to cope with. Throughout
the second World War, Germany was involved in campaigns across the world, from Europe to the
Pacific to Asia. One of the most influential was the one in North Africa. The North African
campaign began the decline of Germany in World War II because its failure brought with it large

Literary Devices In Hamlet
Hamlet Analysis
To be, or not to be? That is the question, These words are spoken by Hamlet in the play Hamlet by
William Shakespeare. This quote is well known around the world and is interpreted differently, with
so much meaning behind a small soliloquy. Throughout the play, Hamlet, Shakespeare uses the
literary device to involve the audience on what is occurring but also to convey more meaning and
understanding. Shakespeare uses symbolism describe complex ideas, that help develop the plot of
the play. Another literary device he uses is imagery, he uses imagery throughout the play to give a
more accurate representation of the corrupt Denmark and the events taking place within. Lastly, he
uses allegory, the allegories are used to hide the moral all throughout the play. In Hamletthe play,
William Shakespeare, uses different literary devices to further the understanding of his writings,
through symbolism using objects to convey the meaning behind it, imagery using descriptive words
to help give a more vivid picture to the audience, and allegory to hide morals/messages behind other
things.
Throughout the play, Shakespeare uses symbolism to help the audience further understand the
meaning. The one example that stood out the most was, the poison throughout the story, for
example, ...Upon my secure hour, thy uncle stole With juice of cursed hebenon in a vial, And in
the porches of my ears did pour... (Act 3, Sn. 5, ln. 61 63). Poison was a symbol of death and

Theme Of Bully In Stephen King s Carrie
An outcast at Penn Manor High School walks into the school, this kid was that same kid nearly
everyone made fun of because he was overweight, the one who almost everyone called a retarded
good for nothing piece of trash. As people walk past him in the hallway, making little snide
remarks, he drops his bag, pulls out a gun with a blank, emotionless expression on his face and
shoots each person in his range of fire. A few of the people shot did not even bully this poor
teenager, but collateral damage is done due to the actions of the ones who started torturing this kid.
Unfortunately, these situations happen more often than they ever should. Stephen Kingaddresses this
type of situation with a supernatural twist in his novelCarrie. King s fear... Show more content on

This is also shown as the main character is described in the novel, Carrie stood among them
stolidly, a frog among swans. She was a chunky girl with pimples on her neck and back and
buttocks, her wet hair completely without color (King 4). King also met the mother of the girl
who helped build Carrie that became the inspiration for the novel as well. In Lynching Stephen
King , Stephen King delineates his encounter with Sondra s sanctimonious mother. She
converses with him about the statue of Jesus in the living room. The mother asked King if he
was saved and he quickly assured her that he was, but he was also distracted by his thoughts of
feeling that the statue was a little too over the top to have in a living room. This encounter that
King had helped shape the character of Margaret White (McCrillis). Margaret White is also
shown to be overly religious when it comes to the subject of Carrie s period in the novel. This
description of Carrie s mother shows the relationship between the two people, Lord, Momma

Summary Of The I Didn t A Christian Friend Essay
Sitting outside on the paint chipped, front porch in the middle of a sweltering night, listening to my
casually Christian friend, Cassie, tell a vaguely interesting story about her mother to another one of
my casually Christian friends, Shelby, was the first time I realized I wasn t a Christian.
And I don t really know if all this is true, she just rushed through the story over the phone a
minute ago, but my mom said that the stoplights had been out for a couple hours and when she
pulled up at the intersection and it was her turn to go, somebody cuts in front of her going the
other direction. She says it would ve been a huge accident, but the light flashed red for a second,
so she hit the brakes and missed the other car by a few feet, Cassie reported, wrapping up her story.
Wow, Shelby paused for a second. Just another one of Gods miracles, she sighed unequivocally
with an optimistic, spiritual air.
I didn t let the verbal vomit register in my brain by merely not sanctioning it to enter in the first
place. I never understood how someone can believe in miracles. How can one have so much
blind faith? This world is not full of miracles, this world is full of the same humdrum twists of
fate that occur to every one of us time and time again in our compendious lives. With the world
population over six billion, every single conceivable scenario has been combatted or accomplished

The Cultural Impacts Of Culture And Cultural Evolution In...
Introduction If you compare your DNA to the person sitting next to you, how similar do you think
it will be? It turns out that biologically humans are about 99.0 99.9% similar to each other. We
know that these small differences account for distinctive variation such as hair, eye, and skin
color. However, the person next to you may not speak the same language, have the same beliefs, or
have the same customs. Therefore all aspects of human behavior are not determined by biology. So
what accounts for these differences? In this chapter we will explore cultureand how cultural
evolutionhas impacted humans.
What is Culture? (couple paragraphs, general ideas, cultural phenomena)
Culture is the transmission of ideas and technologies across generations. Unlike genetics humans
are not born with culture, they learn it from the people around them and their environment. A
society s language, food, arts, clothes, religion, beliefs, and tools all fall under the umbrella of
culture. Thus, accounting for the differences found between people. However, just like biology,
culture cannot account for all human behavior.
In order for behaviors to be considered cultural, they must fit into a criteria established by cultural
anthropologist. Anthropologist study the culture of local and global communities. In order to
obtain accurate information from different communities cultural anthropologist engage in a practice
called fieldwork. When conducting fieldwork anthropologist must establish

According to Revesc in The Independent newspaper dated 25th June 2017, President Donald Trump
did not hold the Iftar dinner to mark the end of Ramadan. This was contrary to the Muslim tradition
held in White House dating more than two decades. The Iftar dinner is held at sunset at the end of
the Islamic holy month of Ramadan characterized by reflection and fasting among the Muslims.
Just as reported by Moore in the New York Post, Revesc also reports on the statement of Eid
Mubarak issued by President Trump to the Muslim community. In the statement, the President noted
that Muslims in the United States joined others globally in Ramadan and urged the faithful to
continue their tradition of helping neighbors and sharing. He added that the Eid al Fitr holiday
reminds Americans to be merciful, compassionate and have goodwill with Muslims around the
world. He reiterated the U.S commitment to honor the values of Eid al Fitr.
Revesc notes that officials in the White House spent months planning for the Iftar event only for it
to fail to take place in 2017. Nevertheless, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was alleged to
have said that the Government would not hold the dinner. In the reigns of Presidents Clinton, Bush

Were The Landings Fake?
The whole issue is Did anyone ever walk on the moon or was it fake? This is a big question
because this has many different beliefs and this could change history for many people. If the moon
landings were real this is not much of a change for most people but if they were fake this could
change everything, more people would be racing to the moon and some people would be very
upset. This question came across because some people have conspiracies that certain things

My answer to that question is how can we see pictures from anywhere on the earth, with satellites
so why couldn t Neil Armstrong be recorded by satellites? Some people believe that we never got

the 1960 s and we were also in a race with the soviet union by who could get to the moon first and
both happened we did launch before 1960 s were over and we beat the soviet union. There are
still some reasons people believe that the rocket launching were fake and i can t deny some of
their points such as..... In pictures from them going to the moon the background was the same in

South Sea Islanders Research Paper
A series of significant events in Australian history leading up to Federation in 1901 brought both
positive and negative changes. The two sides of this arch contrast the successes and failures
involved in making the nation of Australia. A collage showing scenes of racism towards the
Chinese immigrants and the poor treatment of the South Sea Islanders covers the back of the arch.
The front of the arch is a formal design, displaying a influential figure that helped shape the nation
and also the emblems of six colonies before federation took place.
South Sea Islanders
The back of the arch employs a collage, which represents the handling of the South Sea Island
workers and racial discrimination, an act that many white Australians engaged in. The series of
pictures are quite blurred, which shows the resemblance in memories of the South Sea Islanders. It
indicates that this part of Australian history is being forgotten and ignored. Bottom right hand of
the circle shows black birding (Source 33, Booklet, p.29), which illustrates Australians mistreating
the South Sea Islanders. The series of inappropriate actions shown can be considered as a failure in
making the nation of Australia. South Sea Islander descendant, Alf Corowa, whose words are
included as an inscription, recounted the treatment of his ancestors: when they came on the ship
they grabbed them and threw them down the hold (Source 32, Booklet, p.29) The South Sea

Description And Function Of Mutagenesis
Site directed mutagenesis is a method used to construct amino acid changes in a protein in order to
test the function of a specific amino acid. It is the way to study protein structure and function
change the amino acid sequence of a protein by altering the DNA sequence of cloned gene4. A
particular amino acid is very important in catalytic activity, ligand binding, protein folding or other
function. Amino acid residue significance is tested by making conservative substitutions or by
changing the amino acid to either alanine or glycine. Site directed mutagenesis is also used to
construct compensatory mutations, which are used to show the importance of specific interactions
by making changes in both interacting partners. Each change individual destroy the interaction and
combination of changes restores the interaction. These type of experiments are typically between
two protein or between protein and nucleic acid. Used site directed mutagenesis to investigate the
interaction between hPol k and DNA1.
DNA polymerase kappa is a Y family polymerase that use to bypass the damage DNA as
translesion synthesis polymerase. In prostate cancer has reported that it has higher frequency of
mutation in DNA polymerase kappa. 28% of patients have somatic mutations in POLK gene of
prostate tumor and dominated by C to T transition2.
Approximately 30,000 DNA lesions occur per cell per day in mammalian cells. This damage to
DNA can lead to cell death as well as disease such as cancer.

they had conflicts, especially with European Catholics, and they split their churches from Catholics.

This was accepted as dishonorable and a bad reputation in Byzantine society. The defeat was
also because of the sense of urgency of Diogenes, and he did not have enough military

Battle of Manzikert, which is called Hilal Taktigi in Turkish. This military tactic is a military tactic

Summary Of In Praise Of Shadows
Throughout author Jun ichirЕЌ Tanizaki s In Praise of Shadows , he expresses his firm belief that
simplicity and contrast common Japanese values have immense beauty, even as these elements
become less common in a changing society. As the world around him shifts away from these values,
and more towards values of innovation and uniformity, he feels Japanese traditions deserve to
remain appreciated and understood. As a result, Tanizaki utilizes shadows to represent not only
literal shadows but also the various traditions in Japanese culturethat are becoming more
underappreciated, as time goes on. Similarly to shadows, these Japanese customs seem to go
unnoticed and are no longer a significant aspect of everyday life. Tanizaki s use of metaphors and
repetition throughout In Praise of Shadowshelp to exemplify his high gratitude of traditional
Japanese Culture. For many portions of the essay, Tanizaki is praising the beauty of shadows
within the world around him. This is quite prevalent in the section about gold. Although he speaks
often about how he doesn t enjoy the beauty of lustrous metals that shine aggressively, Tanizaki has
a differing opinion when it comes to gold. He beckons, And surely you have seen, in the darkness
of innermost rooms... how gold leaf... will pick up a distant glimmer... (22). In this certain lighting
he feels the shine of gold is not aggressive, rather inviting; absorbing light in beautiful ways that
seem almost impossible. Tanizaki

The Wright s Journey Towards Becoming Famous Aviators
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will
receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1:12). Orville
and Wilbur Wright s journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges.
They encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet
remained determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping
faith during times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma
they faced, Orville and Wilbur s perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first
brother to encounter a curveball (or shall I say, a curve puck?). After being badly injured in an
ice hockey game, he was unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale.
His injury brought about many negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at
home, educating himself by reading from his father s library, until eventually going into business
with his brother Orville. Originally, they operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed
their passion for mechanics and opened up a Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken
handlebars and pedals, they became inspired by the research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator.
After hearing of his death in a glider crash, Orville and Wilbur became determined to create the first
powered aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of

A Brief Note On The History Of Pay
Written Assignment unit 2
The history of pay to click begun in 1996, the first known and documented version of a PPC was
included in a web directory called Planet Oasis. This was a desktop application featuring links to
informational and commercial web sites, and it was developed by Ark Interface II, a division of
Packard bell NEC Computers. The initial reactions from commercial companies to Ark Interface II
s pay per visit model were skeptical, however. By the end of 1997, over 400 major brands were
paying between $.005 to $.25 per click plus a placement fee.
In February 1998 Jeffrey Brewer of Goto.com, a 25 employee startup company later Overture, now
part of yahoo, presented a pay per click search engine proof of concept to the TED ... Show more

Prior to this, Yahoo s primary source of SERPS advertisingincluded contextual IAB advertising
units (mainly 468x60 display ads). When the syndication contract with Yahoo was up for renewal
in July 2003, Yahoo announced intent to acquire Overture for $1.63 billion. Today, companies
such as ad Marketplace, Value Click and ad knowledge offer PPC services, as an alternative to
AdWords and AdCenter.
Paid Search Deliverables
In paid inclusion programs, search engines and their ad feed partners guarantee that their search
engine will list pages from the advertiser s website in its index. However, paid inclusion typically
does not guarantee that the advertiser s pages will rank high. At this writing, search engines
Inktomi, AlltheWeb, and AltaVista offer paid inclusion programs.
Paid placement programs, by contrast, generally guarantee that a link to the advertiser s URL
will be delivered in the search results on a matched keyword or keywords. Location of the delivered
link generally governs the fees, so advertisers will pay more to be placed higher up the page in the
search results.

Chysalids Compared To By The Waters Of Babylon Essay
Two very good stories are The Chrysalids by John Wyndham and By The Waters Of Babylon by
Stephen Vincent Benet. Both these stories are sci fi and depict what human civilizations will be
like after a nuclear holocaust. The result of the holocaust has altered the Hill People and Waknuk
people s morals and religious beliefs. The main difference between the stories is one is viewing the
future as positive the other is portraying the future negatively. The Chrysalids was a better story. It
portrayed what humans act like. In the following paragraphsmany points will be looked upon to
prove that The Chrysalids is a better story.

Sealand.
The story By the Waters of Babylonis about a young man named John. He is the son of a priest in
his community. He ventures off into the dead places. While sleeping in an old building from the
old people, he has a dream. It is about a city with bright lights and funny looking objects. He then
seeks out this city of the gods. On his quest he finds the truth, about the old people. They did not
have magic but they had technology instead. John brings back the news and tells his father. His
father accepts the truth and they slowly tell their community.
The Chrysalids and By The Waters Of Babylon also have many similarities in plot. The main
character in both stories travels to forbidden lands. Also the main characters were both sons of
highly respected men in their communities. Both of the characters end up with a better life in the
end. Both characters have dreams about the truth which makes them go on quests.
These novels had some differences in plot as well, but not too many. One main difference is that
the societies view dead places differently. Waknuk views dead places as a place of the devil in

Age Of Earth
The age of the Earth can be accurately determined. Through various methods of relative dating,
and absolute radiometric dating, scientists can very precisely determine the age of the Earth. The
key to the age of our planet lies not in one evidence, but in the cross examination of multiple
evidences. In this paper, we will explore those evidences and find that the secret of Earths age lives
in the relationship between them. By putting the pictures of fossils in chronological order in the
activity Using Fossils to Tell Deep Time , we discovered that fossils can be a valuable tool in
relative dating. Due to the principle of horizontal originality, we know that layers of sediment are
deposited horizontally; because of this, we can extrapolate that fossils of the same specieswill...

The hotpots create islands; and when the tectonic plates move, the island moves with it. This
creates an opening above the hotspot, which allows the hotspot to create more islands. The older
the islands are, the smaller they get because they have more time to be eroded. Also, the older
the islands will be further away from the hotspot because they have been on the tectonic plates
longer and therefore have had more time to move. This phenomena shows relative age because
we can see the age of the Earth through the size of the islands and the distance they are from the
hotspot. In the third activity, we found that mid ocean ridges are the birthing place of tectonic
plates. The isochron map showed us that the closer to the ridges, the younger the oceanic floor is.
The closer to a continent, the older the rock is. The reason for this is because the mid ocean ridges
create crust, and where the oceanic crust meets the continental crust, the crust is destroyed
(subduction zone). This shows relative age because the oceanic crust s age can be seen relative to
the mid ocean ridges and the subduction

A Brief Note On Conflict Analysis Using Ssam
Conflict Analysis using SSAM
After the 10 simulations for each intersection were completed in VISSIM, their respective outputs
were imported in SSAM. The analysis in SSAM resulted in possible conflicts generated at each
intersection. As mentioned earlier, the results from the SSAM analysis were filtered to remove any
uncertainties, including possible conflicts of pedestrians. The filters used are explained in Table 3
(Section 2.5.3).
Per Saleem (2012), the principal reason for removing the pedestrian conflicts is that in his study
only vehicle to vehicle crashes are modeled. In the same way, this study only focuses on evaluating
safety of signalized intersections with the presence of automated vehicles without including
pedestrians due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CMF was calculated for each crash prediction model applied at both scenarios: 50%AV and
100%AV. Using the method studied by Shahdah, Saccomanno, Persaud (2014) to predict the CMF
based on simulated conflicts, the total predicted crashes after the countermeasure was applied
(crashes at 100% AV and crashes at 50%AV) were divided by the total predicted crashes before the
countermeasure was applied (crashes at 0%AV). This provided crash modification factors for the
two AV penetration levels investigated in this study.
Finally, to have a better perspective with regards to simulated conflicts and crashes, an average
was calculated for each element used to calculate the CMFs for the four prediction models
(crashes at 0%AV, crashes at 100%AV, crashes at 50%AV). With these new values, new CMFs
were calculated for 100%AV and 50%AV with respect to the untreated site scenario of 0%AV.
3.5Evaluation of Safety Treatments for Signalized Intersections
After analyzing the safety of the 78 signalized intersections when introducing automated vehicles,
this part of the research explored and evaluated the safety effects on crashes when hypothetical
treatments were applied to selected intersections.

3.3Clear Statement of Requirements
According to Mueller (2005), the FBI did not have complete set of system requirements when the
contract was awarded to SAIC. Even though the FBI had an 800 plus requirements document, the
requirements were too complicated, incomplete and not sufficiently defined. Also the requirements
documents focused more on the finer details of the system layout instead of the high level
functions of the system (Goldstein, 2005). Failure of the VCF project was also caused by
continuously changing requirements. During the project life cycle, the FBI made 400 change
requests most of which had major impact on what was already designed and produced.
3.4Proper planning
The VCF project lacked of proper planning. Firstly, the FBI had no Chief Information Officer (CIO)
at the start of the project. Without a CIO, the FBI had no standard software infrastructure. The FBI
had 23 divisions, each with their own IT budget, investigations database and applications
(Goldstein, 2005).
Secondly, the FBI had no Enterprise Architecture (EA) in place to assist them in making effective
decisions about IT projects. This shortage lead to the SAIC developers having no formal
documentation of how the FBI s IT structure and systems are mapped to its processes to guide
them during the development of the VCF system. Also SAIC was awarded a contract that did not
have a defined project schedule and milestones.

Self Identity By Anthony Giddens
Project of the self is one of the most significant concepts created by Anthony Giddens. The author
bases his ideas of self identification upon influence of the modern world and changes created by the
process of globalization (Giddens, 1991). The main argument is strong. However the study seeks
some further explanations of the role of identityin the social life of individuals.
This essay will investigate issue of self identity in the modern world according to Antony
Giddens s ideas. Firstly, it will be considered how the concept of self identity is created in the
modern world. After that identities will be explained in terms of Giddens s opinion. It will be
given an overview of the main Giddens s work on self identity (Giddens, 1991). Then Giddens s
Project of the self will be scrutinised. After that Giddens s approach to self identification will be
critically analysed. There will be outlined strength and weaknesses of the Giddens s study on self
identity. The essay will be finished by evaluation of Giddens s Project of the self .
The world has become modern and global. Identification of the self is a complicated, though, an
important problem of every individual. Self identity is based on inner values and reflections on
culture, politics and social interactions. The main point is that people label themselves to any
particular group in the society (Worchel etc., 1998). According to Ferguson: Identity commonly

Agribusiness and large scale farming have seen their fair share of both critics and supporters,
especially today, as the internet has become an unlimited source of information and biased

immensely as the need for more food faster has increased, but some still question the safety and
trustworthiness of genetically modified organisms, also known as GMOs, while others find these
technological advances necessary to feed our endlessly increasing population. By far the more
popular view of agribusiness and the large scale farming is the critical, anti GMO point of view.

Simon Garfunkle Mrs. Robinson
The speaker of this poem sounds like someone who is sitting in an empty room, or a full room that

speaker is speaking to an audience who is in the same predicament as himself. The audience more
than likely consist of teenagers and up. This is usually the time to determine what college to
attend, college or the army, follow my dreams, or give them up, etc. The motivation for this poem
is that sometimes life is confusing. Fortunately, no one is ever in this confused place alone. It is to

This poem has been used at graduations, cards, and at other ceremonies. Unfortunately, the
reciters of this poem at those occasions are unaware of its true meaning. There comes a point in
life where big decisions will have to be made. It is not a choice that a decision must be made, it is a
must. The decisions one make in life will be strongly based solely on their views in life. The
decision will come from one s personal beliefs. The decisions will also be influenced by the
people in one s surrounding. The future is shaped by a single choice one make. It is not known
if the right decision or the wrong decision will be made. The decisions one make will either be
regretful or satisfying. The decisions made will affect those people who are around. However, it
s a matter of not letting those who are around make the final decision. This is the message of the
entire poem that speaker was trying to tell his audience. This speaker allows his audience to take a
look into his life and see how his life choices may have impacted him. He is allowing his audience
a vivid picture of going down either the right or wrong road. There is never a direct answer where
life will take one. His point may be in life, it is okay to be different and

Summary Of Shackled By Celiac Disease Essay
Shackled by Celiac Disease As a tear slips down her cheek, five year old Addi continues with her

why, her helpless mother tries to soothe her frazzled daughter. Switching her diet, checking her

is wrong? Why these sudden sleepless nights? After reading a medical website or paper, you

that bring patients to their doctor is constipation (Beyond Celiac). Constipation occurs when the

Unfortunately, we often hear the news about the illicit wildlife trafficking or illegal wildlife trade.
Wildlife seems to be traded all around us. It is used not only as pets and trophies but also for food,
leather, home decorations and medical purposes.
Wildlife is an important part of ecological community as it plays an important role in the
environment. I know that conservation and management of wildlife is a very complex issue, but to
save wildlife, we should take some positive actions, which requires changes in our life style and
changes in our general way of thinking so that the future generations of both wildlife and human
can enjoy it.
Any actions threatening wildlife and its habitat must be banned right now.

New Wave Cinema
In David Cook s, A History of Narrative Film, it is said that the prevailing mode of postwar
French cinema was literary adaption, which caused French films to become increasingly verbal and
theatrical. It was against this tendency identified as the tradition of quality by Francois Truffaut
and the other critics writing in Cashiers du Cinema, that the New Wave reacted in the late 1950 s
and 1960 s.
Camera stylo, which would permit the cinema to become a means of expression as supple and
sbutle as that of written language and would therefore accord filmmakers the status of authors.
Astruc s notion was to break away from the tyranny of narrative in order to evolve a new form of
audiovisual language (Cook, 350). Astruc went on to describe how the problem of the cinema is
how to express thought. The creation of this language has preoccupied all the theoreticians and
writers in the history of cinema, from Einstein down to the script writers and adaptors of the sound

womans head, the missing lock became, so called, evidence of a man s sexual conquest. Other
sexual conquests, forced or not, are spoken with anything but love and only those of... Show more

This elevation highly represents the overall theme that materialism plays an almost biblical role
in society. The other way to analyze the list is that the Bibles are brought down to the very
materialistic level of the other listed cosmetics. Another aspect to note is that Bibles is plainly
listed, not the first or last mentioned item, but somewhere in the middle. Both ways conclude
that the cosmetic, material items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along with
them. Another list comes with a comparison of paired items that contradict each other s
importance; ... Or stain her honor, or her new brocade,/ forget her prayers, or miss a masquerade,
/ Or lose her heart, or necklace, at a ball;... (Pope II 106 107). The first description used in each
line is something of importance, as staining honor, forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have
serious implications and consequences. But then those more serious actions are paired with trivial
material ones; staining a new brocade, missing a masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. The
material actions paired with important ones really unify them as being on the same level of
importance. The contradiction is removed and materialism is elevated.
Objectification of women goes hand and hand with materialism. When Pope speaks of the sexual
conquests in The Rape of the Lock, he only focuses on the material aspects that result

Jerome Seymour Bruner Essay
Jerome Seymour Bruner is an American psychologist who made signification contributions to
educational, cognitive and developmental psychology. This paper will focus on who Bruner is, his
main theories explained, plus a comparison between Bruner and Piaget and the effectiveness of
Bruners theories in the classroom.
Bruner was born and raised in New York City, Bruner graduated high school in 1933 and went on
to major in psychology at Duke University; earning an AB degree in 1937. Subsequently, Bruner
pursued a graduate study at Harvard University receiving the MA in 1939 and a Ph.D. in 1941.

The third theme is intuitive thinking, a neglected but important feature of productive thinking.
Careful examinations of the nature of intuitive thinking is a great aid to those in teaching and
effective thinking is supported by the development of self confidence and courage. The fourth
theme is motivation for learning; an interest in the learning material is the best stimulus for
learning and must be kept broad and different in expression. It is important for students to feel
motivated whilst learning, the motives for learning must be based upon as much as possible on
interests. Bruner s work had a profound effect on education, researchers and the students he has
worked with. Bruner (1964) clearly states that his theory is the development of human intellectual
functioning .
A lot of Bruner s work was powered by earlier theoretical research of Vygotsky and Piaget. My
main focus is on the similarities and differences of Bruner and Piaget, as LaFrancois (2000) states
that much of Bruner s work is linked to Piaget. The best theory for this is the theory of
Constructivism. According to Bruning et al. (1999) constructivism is a psychological and
philosophical perspective contending that individuals form or construct much of what they learn
and understand. Constructivism is the philosophy of learning; a

Summary Of The Year Of Living Biblically
Summary:
The Year of Living Biblically, he spent a year following the Bible literally. I was a little nervous
about this one because I was afraid he was doing this to try to show how silly the Bible is and
poke fun of Christians. That was fortunately not the case. The thing about A.J. that I like is that he
just seems to like learning, so he enjoyed the experience of learning more about the Bible and
religion in general rather than trying to promote a cause. It was also interesting that one of the
reasons he wanted to pursue this topic was because of his son. He didn t want to raise his son to
be without religion, without a moral compass. I find it odd that he doesn t want his son to be an
agnostic even though he s one. A.J. is also a secular Jew, so that added to the interesting aspects
of the book to see him digging into his family history and also made his lack of conversion make a
little more sense to me.
Anyway, the book itself is just fascinating. He grows a beard that he can t trim. He wears white
clothes. He avoids touching women in general since it might be the time of the month where they
are unclean. He takes a seat with him at all times to keep from sitting on soiled ground. He travels
to Israel. He attends Jewish religious festivals. He talks to evangelicals and visits a creationism
museum. And even though he doesn t believe in creationism, he doesn t mock it either. He talks
about how intelligent the scientists there are. He s truly open in a way very

Fast Paced Dance In Master Haroldd And The Boys By Athol...
In the play, Master Harold...and the boys, by Athol Fugard the scene when Hally get angry about
his father is very aggressive and lively exactly like the fast paced dance called ,The Jive. Master
Harold... and the boys is a detailed play about a young white boy with two middle aged African
American servants. The servants, Sam and Willie, are attempting to learn ballroom dancing. The
young white boy, Hally, comes home after a stressful day at school and everything goes downhill
from their. Hallys father is in the hospital and his mother is gone taking care of him. Throughout
this play there are many arguments and laughs between the boy and the two men that are very
entertaining.
The Jive is a very lively and fast paced dance that contains a great amount of energy. It begins
with a smooth glide movement to the side. The basic look and feel of jive is that it is performed
with lots and lots of energy, with the legs portraying a pumping action. Although the jive contains
two fast paced dancers, they dance in unison as they begin. In the jive there is a great amount of
footwork.. Although jive dancers may appear to be moving their feet haphazardly in every
direction, the feet are actually well controlled under the body with the knees close together. Once
they are done dancing in unison, they begin to come together and dance in a smooth, but fast
pace. The man is always going to lead this entertaining dance and the woman follows right behind
him. The dancers are extremely loose

The Controversial Issue Of Abortions
As girls reach a certain age, they hit puberty and their bodies start to change. Mentally, their
hormones, attitudes and perspectives on life start to differ. Physically, they start to grow in places
that are visible to the human eye, but they also start to develop in places that we cannot see by just
looking at them. This includes their reproductive system, which worldwide has caused many
controversial issues that will be further looked upon throughout this paper. When the word Abortion
is heard, a heated argument often arises between couples, families, governments, and most
commonly throughout women s minds around the world. Over the past hundred years, the topic
of abortions has been an ongoing issue. Many people agree to this practice, while others see it as
completely absurd. In the past, present and most likely into the future, women have very little
say in deciding whether to have an abortion or to have a baby. For many women, rape is a major
issue. Without a choice, in most commonly a life or death situation, women are raped and
impregnated by the man who raped them. In cases like this, the majority of women are not
financially stable to have a child, nor are they physically or mentally prepared for the life they
have ahead. This is when the discussion of abortion comes into place and the controversial
argument begins. In Canada in 1892, parliament passed a criminal code that stated the prohibition
of abortions as well as the sale, distribution and

Spanish Myths, And Legends
The Lady in Blue The Lady in Blue is a popular Spanish legend in the Southwest and particularly
New Mexico. The legend of the lady started with New Mexico Indians in the 17th century and
remains popular today.
The Lady in Blue was in fact a real person Maria de Jesus de Agreda, or Sor Maria, as she was
called. Sor Maria founded the Convent of the Immaculate Conception at Agreda.
Sor Maria had a very strong reputation throughout Spain for her wisdom and sanctity, as well as her
mystical and religious writings.
After July 1643, Sor Maria became widely known for a more important reason. It was during this
month, on the way to Aragon, that King Phillip IV stopped at Sor Maria s convent. Following the
visit, the two exchanged letters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sailors declined. Another tale, from Antonio Galvao, also confirmed the presence of the island
and its Portuguese inhabitants, who were curious about how the homefolks were doing against the
Moors.
Stories such as these prompted men like Columbus and, later, Coronado, to seek out the elusive
Seven Cities of Antilia, regardless of the cost in time, men, and finances. They were sure the island
was out there, lurking somewhere in the misty folds of the Atlantic.
The legend was so ingrained in European society that most believed Columbus had found Antilia
when he landed in the West Indies (the island group soon took the name, Antilles). John Cabot,
when he landed in New England in 1497, named the area the Seven Cities .

Theoretical Perspectives Structural Functionalism Conflict...
Do you know how your society functions? There are three very different and distinctive theoretical
perspectives that can all explain how society sustains itself. The problem is no one knows which of
these perspectives best describes how our society functions. Does society function on structure
where different groups work together to maintain sustainability of the society, conflict where
various struggle to maintain power provoking change within the society, or is it symbolic
interactions and relationships between the people in the society that keep the system running
smoothly? This paper will discuss the three theoretical perspectives, structural functionalism,
conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism and why symbolic interactionism is the best
perspective to describe how society functions.
Structural functionalism focuses on how all parts of a society work together to keep the society
functioning. Take institutions for instance. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this perspective it is believed that society is sustained by a constant power struggle. An
example of this is politics. In the presidential campaign the candidates are competing to win
office. The conflict is which party is more fit to be in power and once resolved that party can
begin making changes within the society. Each time a conflict is resolved it stands to reason that
the person on the losing side of the conflict will start a new fight to sway the power back into
their hands thus continuing the cycle of conflict within the society. An example of conflict theory
is competitiveness in businesses. Two businesses that produce the same good will fight so that
people in society will chose one over the other. This competition drives prices to be lower and
goods to be easily accessed. As a result the society thrives off the conflict these two businesses have
because the competition is making goods

Change In James Baldwin s Mr. Chips
In this story Chips is confronted by many obsticles that make him (or try to make him) leave his
old life and embrace a new one. Some of these obsticles prevail in making Chips except the new
ways of life, while some only make him believe that his old ways are supperiour. Although Mr.
Chips is stuck in his ways and doesn t much like change, he understands that life will not always be
the same and that he must learn to adapt to the changing world. When Ralston is trying to change
Chips mind and make him retire, Chips makes a very sage remark to himself when he says, things
were changing, as they were bound too... This shows you that even though Chips was set in his
ways he was not all together irrational about it. Chips understood that chang... Show more content

In fact he thinks quite the opposite. He marries someone who is full of new ideas and believes
there should be change. Chips even says that at first he thought this new type of women would
repel him, but as you can see, he soon fell in love with her and married her. A passage from the
book explains how Chips and Kathies relationship went: And Kathie widened and broadened his
views and opinions, giving him an outlook far beyond the roofs of Brooksfield... She had a
cleverer brain than his, and he could not confuse her ideas even if and when he disagreed with
them; he remained, for instance, a conserative in politics, despite all her radical socialistic talk.
But even where he did not except, he absorbed. His passage shows who Chips really is, he is a
man who likes his old ways, but is open minded to other ideas and is not to stubborn to change his
mind if he is wrong about something. However, when he knows he s right, he still listens to the
other.
I m sure Ralston just thought Chips was an old man who despised change and wanted everything
to stay the same. However, Chips was a man who was open minded and willing to make changes if
he thought it would better

The Issues Of Financial Demands And Permits
In reaching an agreement on the issues of financial demands and permits, our party thought that
the last issue in the agenda was the press release; however, the mayors asked for an annual fixed
payment of $250,000.00 per town from the corporation. While our party was not provided with an
acceptable range to which we may agree upon as precluded by the confidential instructions, we
instead offered to pay $200,000.00 as a low cost inducement instead, to which the mayors agreed
upon. In an effort to reach an agreementwith the counterparts to a positive press release of the
corporation and its project, our party agreed to the payment in the spirit of the consensus decision
rule because the need for the positive press release outweighed the need to minimize costs. In
addition, the mayors offered to promote the project in the towns with the use of the $200,000.00 as
a form of marketing expense, which the corporation could then respectively decrease from the
marketing budget.
In reaching an agreement on the issues of financial demands, permits, and fixed payments, each
one of the parties were able to agree upon a positive press release with much ease, with an
agreement that the mayors would take actions in order to prevent the potential blocking of the
access to the site (see Appendix B for the final contract).

negotiation, as the respective mayors of the

Preparation For A Marching Band
The sport/activity that I have chosen to talk about is marching band. Technically, this would be
my second year doing it but I am looking forward to doing marching band and jazz band later in
high school. So, I have chosen this activity to talk about because it s actually really fun and
entertaining. Many people would watch you, maybe, play one of their favorite songs while
walking down the streets of their hometown. Yea, it could get dark in that town, but it s better to be
doing it, than to not. There are many things to talk about with this sport like preparing, positioning,
and errors. To be honest there are a lot of errors in marching band, and it can get very detailed and
confusing.
Preparation for Accomplishment of Activity Preparation for marching band can be fairly simple.
First, you obviously need to get your instrument and start putting it together once in a quiet, non
distracting place. If your instrument is a woodwind, it would do you a whole lot better if you were
to wet your reed. If you have a brass instrument, it would help your ametuar to do some buzzing
excersises. Percussion would be able to manage their 5 stroke roll better and their paradiddles
better if they do left to right and right to left drills. After your instrument is put together, practice
your songs. If you ve got that down, practice marching. Starting with your right foot, and keeping a
steady beat. In marching you have to walk with a steady pace as the rest of your group and/or
band. Whilst

Using Imagination to Cope with Suffering in Life of Pi Essay
Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know
and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know

the use of imagination, one can reach undefined triumphs and create a new powerful world. In the

Pi feels it is okay to practice all three religions because they all have one goal or purpose which is
the belief in God. Since each story he has heard is different, it does not take away from the main
moral. This ties in with the imagination aspect because no matter how a story is told, the end
result is the same. An example of this is when he is confronted and surrounded by the Priest,
Pandit, and Imam. His response as to why he was practicing Hindu, Christian and Muslim faiths
was, Bapu Gandhi said, All religions are true. I just want to love God. (Page 76) Believing in all
three religions is something Pi feels is important to him because he is just trying to love and
pray to God in as many ways as possible. Although the stories are interesting, it doesn t really
matter how you got to the ending if the purpose of the story is the equal. The important of Pi s
imagination is triggered by this and has later gone into great effect. The religions he practices
represent hat behind every reason, everyone has their own way of saying it, whether it be fiction
or non fiction. In human and animal nature, many similarities are portrayed in Life of Pi as well as
a strong relation between the two. In contrast, humans and animals share the same sort of lifestyle,
just living a different life according to Pi s thoughts. In a tragic situation that one is in, such as Pi
they must find a way to pass time and keep themselves busy by using their circumstances,

Dental School Experience
1. One of the factors that I considered when looking into dental schools was the ability to establish
a strong foundational knowledge that will allow students to excel in their respective fields. When
looking at Boston University, I found that by offering a rigorous course load, GSDM was able to
produce some of the most renown dentists in the country. Secondly, the combination of their
amazing professors and a state of the art clinic which allow students to practice their skills on
patients was one of the most enticing factors that drew me to this university. Thirdly, the CAGS

I would be a valuable asset to the classroom because I am a firm believer that having a good work
ethic, an open mind, and a caring personality will lead one far in life. Having a fondness for
challenging tasks, I would be able to help figure out complicated equations or problems by
bringing in different perspectives. While I do enjoy working alone, I also enjoy working with
groups. I was reminded by my college professors that I teach as I learn, as in I always strive to
help those around me grow and develop with me. Studying by oneself is an important skill to have,
but communicating and working with classmates is even more important. Using my interpersonal
skills, I believe that I would be able to connect students to work together. Finally, I can bring a sense
of humor to the classroom. I know that dental school is a place of focus, but I believe that having a
balance of humor and focus is crucial to prevent students from being stressed. During stressful
times, many people burn out, but when humor is incorporated within a classroom environment, not
only will the students benefit, but the professors will benefit as well. I would contribute to the

personal strength and endurance, measure by their degree of extroversion and introversion.
Extroversion Are more energized by active involvement with people. Introversion are more
energized by their inner ideas, memories, and reactions. The effectiveness of energy is to keep
one s authenticity. Nothing kills communication like the perception that you are a phony. You

  • 2. How Did Germany Lose Ww2 In the beginning of World War II, Germany seemed to be on a path to dominating Europe. Our world could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it didn t. Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one caused it to lose the war: Germanys loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall. This is because the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and because it gave the Allies a geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted until it finally surrendered in 1945. One of the primary reasons the North African campaign was so damaging was because of the resources lost by its failure. The Germans lost thousands of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The largest of these was access to the Mediterranean and Italy. Up until this point, routes of delivery [from the Allies to the USSR] were long, roundabout, and difficult because the Mediterranean and the Baltic were closed to Allied cargo vessels. (Greenfield, 228) Now, using ports and outposts in Africa, the Mediterranean was open and the USSR could get the reinforcements it needed to begin its fatal push into Germany. At the same time, Britain and the US were able to begin the Italian campaign, overthrowing one of Germany s main allies and supporters and beginning their own push into Germany. Losing control of Africa provided the Allies with a strategic advantage that Germany didn t have the resources to cope with. Throughout the second World War, Germany was involved in campaigns across the world, from Europe to the Pacific to Asia. One of the most influential was the one in North Africa. The North African campaign began the decline of Germany in World War II because its failure brought with it large losses of resources, morale, and strategic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Theme Of Bully In Stephen King s Carrie An outcast at Penn Manor High School walks into the school, this kid was that same kid nearly everyone made fun of because he was overweight, the one who almost everyone called a retarded good for nothing piece of trash. As people walk past him in the hallway, making little snide remarks, he drops his bag, pulls out a gun with a blank, emotionless expression on his face and shoots each person in his range of fire. A few of the people shot did not even bully this poor teenager, but collateral damage is done due to the actions of the ones who started torturing this kid. Unfortunately, these situations happen more often than they ever should. Stephen Kingaddresses this type of situation with a supernatural twist in his novelCarrie. King s fear... She was a chunky girl with pimples on her neck and back and buttocks, her wet hair completely without color (King 4). King also met the mother of the girl who helped build Carrie that became the inspiration for the novel as well. In Lynching Stephen King , Stephen King delineates his encounter with Sondra s sanctimonious mother. She converses with him about the statue of Jesus in the living room. The mother asked King if he was saved and he quickly assured her that he was, but he was also distracted by his thoughts of feeling that the statue was a little too over the top to have in a living room. This encounter that King had helped shape the character of Margaret White (McCrillis). Margaret White is also shown to be overly religious when it comes to the subject of Carrie s period in the novel. This description of Carrie s mother shows the relationship between the two people, Lord, Momma declaimed hugely, her head thrown back, help this sinning woman beside me here see the sin of her days and ways. Show her that if she had remained sinless the Curse of Blood never would have come on her. She may have committed the Sin of Lustful Thoughts (King 55). Summary Of The I Didn t A Christian Friend Essay Sitting outside on the paint chipped, front porch in the middle of a sweltering night, listening to my casually Christian friend, Cassie, tell a vaguely interesting story about her mother to another one of my casually Christian friends, Shelby, was the first time I realized I wasn t a Christian. And I don t really know if all this is true, she just rushed through the story over the phone a minute ago, but my mom said that the stoplights had been out for a couple hours and when she pulled up at the intersection and it was her turn to go, somebody cuts in front of her going the other direction. She says it would ve been a huge accident, but the light flashed red for a second, so she hit the brakes and missed the other car by a few feet, Cassie reported, wrapping up her story. Wow, Shelby paused for a second. Just another one of Gods miracles, she sighed unequivocally with an optimistic, spiritual air. I didn t let the verbal vomit register in my brain by merely not sanctioning it to enter in the first place. I never understood how someone can believe in miracles. How can one have so much blind faith? This world is not full of miracles, this world is full of the same humdrum twists of fate that occur to every one of us time and time again in our compendious lives. With the world population over six billion, every single conceivable scenario has been combatted or accomplished or evaded at one time or another. It turns out that biologically humans are about 99.0 99.9% similar to each other. We know that these small differences account for distinctive variation such as hair, eye, and skin color. However, the person next to you may not speak the same language, have the same beliefs, or have the same customs. Therefore all aspects of human behavior are not determined by biology. So what accounts for these differences? In this chapter we will explore cultureand how cultural evolutionhas impacted humans. What is Culture? (couple paragraphs, general ideas, cultural phenomena) Culture is the transmission of ideas and technologies across generations. Unlike genetics humans are not born with culture, they learn it from the people around them and their environment. A society s language, food, arts, clothes, religion, beliefs, and tools all fall under the umbrella of culture. Thus, accounting for the differences found between people. However, just like biology, culture cannot account for all human behavior. In order for behaviors to be considered cultural, they must fit into a criteria established by cultural anthropologist. • 11. South Sea Islanders Research Paper A series of significant events in Australian history leading up to Federation in 1901 brought both positive and negative changes. The two sides of this arch contrast the successes and failures involved in making the nation of Australia. A collage showing scenes of racism towards the Chinese immigrants and the poor treatment of the South Sea Islanders covers the back of the arch. The front of the arch is a formal design, displaying a influential figure that helped shape the nation and also the emblems of six colonies before federation took place. South Sea Islanders The back of the arch employs a collage, which represents the handling of the South Sea Island workers and racial discrimination, an act that many white Australians engaged in. The series of pictures are quite blurred, which shows the resemblance in memories of the South Sea Islanders. It indicates that this part of Australian history is being forgotten and ignored. Bottom right hand of the circle shows black birding (Source 33, Booklet, p.29), which illustrates Australians mistreating the South Sea Islanders. The series of inappropriate actions shown can be considered as a failure in making the nation of Australia. South Sea Islander descendant, Alf Corowa, whose words are included as an inscription, recounted the treatment of his ancestors: when they came on the ship they grabbed them and threw them down the hold (Source 32, Booklet, p.29) The South Sea Islanders were kidnapped and were abused for cheap labour in Queensland, resulting in profit for white Australians made from the work of the Islanders and racism ... It is the way to study protein structure and function change the amino acid sequence of a protein by altering the DNA sequence of cloned gene4. A particular amino acid is very important in catalytic activity, ligand binding, protein folding or other function. Amino acid residue significance is tested by making conservative substitutions or by changing the amino acid to either alanine or glycine. Site directed mutagenesis is also used to construct compensatory mutations, which are used to show the importance of specific interactions by making changes in both interacting partners. Each change individual destroy the interaction and combination of changes restores the interaction. These type of experiments are typically between two protein or between protein and nucleic acid. Used site directed mutagenesis to investigate the interaction between hPol k and DNA1. DNA polymerase kappa is a Y family polymerase that use to bypass the damage DNA as translesion synthesis polymerase. In prostate cancer has reported that it has higher frequency of mutation in DNA polymerase kappa. 28% of patients have somatic mutations in POLK gene of prostate tumor and dominated by C to T transition2. As the world around him shifts away from these values, and more towards values of innovation and uniformity, he feels Japanese traditions deserve to remain appreciated and understood. As a result, Tanizaki utilizes shadows to represent not only literal shadows but also the various traditions in Japanese culturethat are becoming more underappreciated, as time goes on. In this paper, we will explore those evidences and find that the secret of Earths age lives in the relationship between them. By putting the pictures of fossils in chronological order in the activity Using Fossils to Tell Deep Time , we discovered that fossils can be a valuable tool in relative dating. This creates an opening above the hotspot, which allows the hotspot to create more islands. The older the islands are, the smaller they get because they have more time to be eroded. Also, the older the islands will be further away from the hotspot because they have been on the tectonic plates longer and therefore have had more time to move. This phenomena shows relative age because we can see the age of the Earth through the size of the islands and the distance they are from the hotspot. In the third activity, we found that mid ocean ridges are the birthing place of tectonic plates. The isochron map showed us that the closer to the ridges, the younger the oceanic floor is. The closer to a continent, the older the rock is. The reason for this is because the mid ocean ridges create crust, and where the oceanic crust meets the continental crust, the crust is destroyed (subduction zone). New Wave Cinema In David Cook s, A History of Narrative Film, it is said that the prevailing mode of postwar French cinema was literary adaption, which caused French films to become increasingly verbal and theatrical. It was against this tendency identified as the tradition of quality by Francois Truffaut and the other critics writing in Cashiers du Cinema, that the New Wave reacted in the late 1950 s and 1960 s. Camera stylo, which would permit the cinema to become a means of expression as supple and sbutle as that of written language and would therefore accord filmmakers the status of authors. Astruc s notion was to break away from the tyranny of narrative in order to evolve a new form of audiovisual language (Cook, 350). Astruc went on to describe how the problem of the cinema is how to express thought. During the 18th century, cosmetic alteration to natural beauty peaked and materialism heightened throughout societal views. Authors such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift vividly spew these views throughout their writings. Pope s Rape of the Lock exposes the materialism used in objectifying women, mainly in the upper class societal levels. The whole plot of the story centers around a cosmetic appearance creating an objectified view, as since the lock of hair was cut from a womans head, the missing lock became, so called, evidence of a man s sexual conquest. This elevation highly represents the overall theme that materialism plays an almost biblical role in society. The other way to analyze the list is that the Bibles are brought down to the very materialistic level of the other listed cosmetics. Another aspect to note is that Bibles is plainly listed, not the first or last mentioned item, but somewhere in the middle. Both ways conclude that the cosmetic, material items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along with them. Another list comes with a comparison of paired items that contradict each other s importance; ... Or stain her honor, or her new brocade,/ forget her prayers, or miss a masquerade, / Or lose her heart, or necklace, at a ball;... (Pope II 106 107). The first description used in each line is something of importance, as staining honor, forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have serious implications and consequences. But then those more serious actions are paired with trivial material ones; staining a new brocade, missing a masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. The material actions paired with important ones really unify them as being on the same level of importance. The contradiction is removed and materialism is elevated. Objectification of women goes hand and hand with materialism. When Pope speaks of the sexual conquests in The Rape of the Lock, he only focuses on the material aspects that result ... The thing about A.J. that I like is that he just seems to like learning, so he enjoyed the experience of learning more about the Bible and religion in general rather than trying to promote a cause. It was also interesting that one of the reasons he wanted to pursue this topic was because of his son. He didn t want to raise his son to be without religion, without a moral compass.
