In 1969, US troops began Operation Apache Snow with the goal of clearing the
People s Army of Vietnam from the A Shau Valley in South Vietnam. Located near
the border with Laos, the valley had become an infiltration route into South Vietnam
and a haven for the Peoples Army of Vietnam forces. A multi phase operation, the
second phase commenced on May 10, 1969, as elements of 3rd Brigade of the 101st
Airborne moved into the valley.
Forces were the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry, and the
1st Battalion, 506th Infantry. These units were supported by the 9th Marines and the
3rd Battalion, 5th Cavalry, as well as elements of the Army of Vietnam

force is important for many biological and self assembly processes, like the
aggregation of amphiphilic lipids into bilayers (micelles and membranes). It also
plays a dominant role in protein folding and association. Although, Hydrophobicity
is a very commonly observed and explored concept, important for many chemical
and biological phenomena, its molecular origin is far from being understood. There
have been many theories and controversies for the past five or so decades, trying to
come up with a suitable explanation to the problem of hydrophobicity and why it
occurs.
Frank and Evan [1] , in 1945, observed that on mixing water with hydrophobic
molecules, the enthalpy and entropy of the system is decreased. They suggested
that this decrease may be due to the changes in the water structure near the non
polar solutes. In the words of Frank and Evan when a rare gas atom or a non polar
molecule dissolves in water, at room temperature, it modifies the water structure in
the direction of greater crystallinity the water, so to speak, builds a microscopic
cage around it. This was the famous iceberg model. It has been emphasized though,
that water structure is not exactly like an ice cage but more like a clathrate cage

I have a lot of good memories of my senior prom. The Hilton s California ballroom,
the dancing, and socializing with friends were some of the memories. But most of
all, the food was the best memory of all. The food served at Castlemont High s
senior prom was colorful and delicious. One could not help but to see, smell, and

dull pink jumbo shrimp looked like crescent moons, outrageously swollen, and just
about ready to bust out of their transparent, segmented shells.
The smell of hors d oeurves served to whet the appetite of all in attendance. The

Our team decided to take the opportunity afforded to us by our Technical Writing
course to research something meaningful to the student body that could potentially
impact the future of Virginia Tech. Our instructor, Mr. Andrew Kulak, M.A.,
approved our proposal to investigate student commuter parking on campus to
determine if there were any troubling issues that could affect future innovation
projects for the campus community as a whole. Currently, our findings indicate
that there are indeed issues with the availability of commuter parking on campus.
This issue will increase as Virginia Tech attracts more students who wish to study at
our campus, and as more building projects take up space that was once used for
parking. Prior to the start of Goodwin Hall s construction in 2011, older campus

These additions to campus are never to be discouraged, and greatly benefit the
