Whatever the purpose of a story may be, whether the tale is a philosophical,
moralizing or merely entertaining one, an assortment of characters with sufficient
depth, notability and believability is vital to shoulder the burden of the author s
intent. George MacDonald, in one of his most famous novels, The Princess and the
Goblin, displays an acute awareness of this fact, presenting us with some of the most
colorful and unforgettable characters seen in children s literature. When considering

Traditionally, goblins or hobgoblins are generally creatures associated with a single
household, who performs ... services for the family to whom he attaches himself
(Keightly, 239). This is usually after some inconvenient trials placed upon the
family by the goblin, such as sawdust in the house or dirt in the milk, all to test the
disposition of the family and their recognition of the goblin s partial claim to the
household (Keightly, 239). It is clear that this traditional goblin hardly fits the
description of MacDonald s more menacing, subterranean goblin, and it has been
suggested that the dwarf in folklore better describes this type of creature (Morris).
Dwarves are a subterranean race [that] has no proper communication with mankind,
who accomplish their business in the night, and not by the day (Keightly, 217). This
nearly echoes The Princess and the Goblin, where the goblins had all taken refuge in
the subterranean caverns, whence they never came out but at night, and them seldom

After the Civil War started, another need for a national bank emerged. The
government wanted to learn from the mistakes of the first and second banks, so
they developed the National Bank in 1869, which was modeled after the free
banking system. This system allowed banks to choose between state and national
charters. Though the bank was transformed into another bank in 1913, this was the
United States first success at a uniform currency. Finally in 1913, the Federal

meets many of the criteria, as discussed below.
Crisis Identification
Problem 1: Ignored Warning Signs
A crisis as a low probability event suggests it could not be foreseen. In this case, TGT
invested $61mil (ВЈ38.7mil) in detection technology to protect customer information
making it hard to argue that they did not anticipate the threat (Riley et al., 2014).
Although TGT does not meet the low probability clause, the corporation s inaction
resulted in high impact and significant repercussions. The crisis was further
exacerbated by TGT s poor communications decisions.
Problem 2: Lack of Timely Response
TGT s public announcement of data breach disclosed that approximately 40 million
credit and debit card accounts may were potentially compromised (Target, 2013).
This came weeks after the breach, and a day after the company was out ed on
technology security blog (Krebs, B. 2013). The event s high impact (on stakeholder
emotions and finances) demanded an immediate response. TGT failed to notify the
public immediately and did not provide consistent and adequate communications.
