Redefining Heroism Throughout The Language Of The Brag

Redefining Heroism in the Language of the Brag
Sharon Olds author of the Language of the Brag, suggests through her experience in the poem that our
society and culture altogether is male dominated towards achievement and focused more for men s
success and heroism. Men are typically known for their strength and courage, especially heroic acts in
society. When things are expected to get done, it s naturally expected for the guy to do it. And through
her use of repetition and tone in the Language of the Brag the author describes certain attributes that
she once lacked to later achieving in the poem. Significantly, Olds uses repetition to make a statement
from I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also poetic action depicted in the poem, in which the writer establishes her longing to perform
an act of heroism or extraordinary achievement. I think my biggest surprise was her casual use of
sexual language, using a vibrating cock as a metaphor, and later using the knife reference again saying
she was stabbed in her inner sex. Sharon Olds speaks so fiercely about the woman s body, that you
feel she s almost competing against the constant objectivity against the woman s body. You can tell
she speaks from experience, she s watched the boys play and all she wants is to show them that she
has suffered as a woman and is better for it. She s stronger, prouder, and for that reason has a right to
brag and redefine heroism.
The middle of the poem is crucial because Sharon Olds is able to link heroism to the act of birth. It is
also where the speaker changes her statement from I have wanted to I have. Sharon Olds does this by
using graphic images to emphasize her point in the act of birth. She states, my inner sex/ stabbed again
and again with terrible pain like a knife./ I have lain down./ I have lain down and sweated and shaken/
and passed blood and feces and water and/ slowly alone in the center of a circle I have/ passed the new
person out (lines 19 25). This transition I have wanted to I have is important not only because its
shows the author s new found strength through the process of the act, Olds herself is finally the center

Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker
Introduction: The Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker is experiencing an exponential year over year
growth rate of their premium product. This is a situation that all new businesses strive for and
although Scharffen Berger is pleased with their growth, they are facing a potential dilemma. The
company must consider how they will keep up with growing demand while having enough capacity to
handle the increase in production and maintain their high quality standards. In order to understand
how to meet the increased demand, research was conducted to unveil the problematic issues the ...

Pros: There are several benefits to opening a secondary production plant and warehouse: increased
output, savings on freight costs, close proximity to current retail shops, and the potential to open new
retail stores. The new facility will be an exact replication of the West Coast facility, with the exception
of offices, on sight retail outlet, and tour groups. The advantage of the East Coast facility being an
exact replication, Scharffen Berger will be able to forecast their exact yearly production output, in
which will be double to keep up with demand. Insert small chart here Opening a facility in Kentucky
allows the company to ship their products to the Scharffen Berger retail stores located in New York
City (Upper West Side and Greenwich Village), and other upscale department and retailers, such as
Trader Joes, located throughout the United States. This will save transit time and freight costs
substantially[2] .as compared to shipping directly from California to the stores. In a cost comparison
researched showed that there was a delta of $4,167.43 when shipping from the West Coast facility to

The Aztecs
The Aztecs Were Ahead Of Their Time
The Aztecs, though considered by the Spanish to be uncivilized, are now considered to be one of the
most advanced civilizations of their time. They have made advancements in many different fields and
their comparison to the modern day world is unbelievable. In their short span of existence, they were
able to create a prosperous empire that was both structured and creative. They have risen above other
nations in their time, including those in Europe, in many different ways. The Aztecs were ahead of
their time because several aspects of their civilization are heavily reflected in the modern day world.
In the beginning, the Aztecs were a nomadic tribe. They could have been considered barbaric savages

While Europe ran on a monarchy, the Aztecs went a step beyond. They took an idea that we have been
using now, dividing their land into different sections and appointing a local government for that
specific region. ( Aztec History ) Although they referred to it as tribute at the time, their form of
payment to their government was one that greatly resembles today s income taxes. Because they did
not have a form of currency, they paid tribute in supplies, such as cloth and food. This kept the power
in the government, a skill necessary in a rising empire. ( Aztec History ) These people also had an
extremely structured court system, which is almost identical to the one we have now. This system
consisted of three levels, the trial courts, appellate courts, and the supreme court. When a case is
brought to one of the appellate courts, their emperor reviews it. If he finds that the issue is too
important for the court to handle, he rules the final decision. ( Tarlton Law Aztec and Maya Law) The
Aztecs were very concerned with the safety of the people, which is why they have laws for both
crimes, and personal safety. The punishment for small rate crimes is repaying the crime with goods or
work. For higher crimes, however, the penalty is death. (The Aztecs Tim Wood) The Aztecs were

Understanding The Roots Of Crime
One may avoid negativity for any kind of reason. One may be distressed by it, or perhaps one may
find negativity traumatizing to their emotions. Whatever it may be, some people attempt to dodge any
sort of negativity. The topic of my independent novel serves to not only challenge the idea of avoiding
any kind of depressing news, but to bring light to new ways of thinking that humanity should adopt
should we want to understand the roots of crime. Furthermore, we should use our knowledge of these
roots to prevent crime.

Paula broke her wrist slugging Sylvia in the jaw and subsequently went to church and bragged about
it. The Likens parents came to visit the girls between fairs, and they saw nothing out of the visits.
Later still, Sylvia was accused of spreading rumors that Paula and Stephanie Baniszewski were
prostitutes at Arsenal Technical High School. This provoked Stephanie s boyfriend, Coy Hubbard to
flip Sylvia onto the floor and bang her head against the wall. Gertrude encouraged other neighborhood
children floating in and out of the house to flip Sylvia and burn her with cigarettes. Torture became the
neighborhood game. What served as Gertrude s pretense for keeping Sylvia out of school is the
alleged theft of a gym suit.
Soon after, Sylvia became incontinent, and Gertrude locked her in the basement. A bathing regime
came into action; every other day, Sylvia was burned with scalding water. She was starved and often
kept naked. Grosser indignities were to follow, with Gertrude continuing to authorize Sylvia s torture
carried out by the neighborhood children.
A few days before her death, Gertrude decided that Sylvia deserved to be branded after she branded
her daughters. She began to carve the words, I ᴍ ᴀ ᴘʀᴏsᴛɪᴛᴜᴛᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴘʀᴏᴜᴅ ᴏꜰ ɪᴛ! onto Sylvia s belly
with a heated needle. Gertrude got an asthma attack in the middle of the branding, and relayed the

Airlines might cut down on services to Las Vegas and other vacation destinations if the economy
doesn t recover quickly. This would hurt tourism and revenues on the Las Vegas Strip. With less
people traveling it becomes more expensive for airlines to fly back an forth to destinations. 7.
Government Intervention
Government intervention could put downside pressure on the stock. Possible government intervention
increases risk, because the government is a big customer and has a history of making adverse changes
to the operating ability of companies in every industry. A government regulated industry increases
political risk, because government actions may not be in the best interest of citizen of that particular
country. Governments are usually inefficient with spending money.
Regulations are meant to protect the environmental and consumers. They take the form of permits,

Physical Activity Level And Health Status
Benefits of Physical Activity:
Many evidences are now showing that regular exercise is an effective strategy to prevent and treat
several chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, depression, and
osteoporosis) [29]. It has been demonstrated that the current CPAG is sufficient to elicit health
benefits, especially in people who were previously sedentary [30]. Generally, a positive linear
relationship exists between physical activity level and health status [31]. Both aerobic and resistance
exercises have been shown to be associated with positive health outcomes [32 34].
Barriers Associated with Physical Activity:
Many barriers have been identified which attribute to why people do not exercise regularly to obtain
and maintain health benefits [35, 36]. Commitment towards family, work pressure, and time have been
rated as common barriers people face to be physically active [8]. Recent advances in technology have
resulted in an increases in time spent sedentarily, especially at work [37], but also in leisure time [38,
39]. In addition, long hours of work is specifically a barrier for adults as they are mentally exhausted
and do not feel like exercising [40]. Specifically for older adults, fear of getting injured from physical
activity and self efficacy restricts them from being sufficiently physically active to observe optimal
health benefits [40]. In addition to these, weather conditions, lack of transportation, poor facility,

Essay on The Difficulty of the Topic of Death
The Difficulty of the Topic of Death Children are no strangers to grief. Even infants and toddlers react
to loss. When younger children are shielded from death, silence does not take away their pain; it only

Almost all children will sometime be affected by death of someone they know or love, how well a
child understands and copes with the dying of someone, largely depends on how efficiently parents
explain dying and death to that child. Many adults refrain themselves from discussing this issue
simply because they are unsure of what actually to say. Adults who are scared of this topic will try to
avoid talking to their children about it. The avoidance from parents will only silence the child from the
pain that they feel and will not allow the child an opportunity to successfully grieve for their loss.
Parents who are willing to talk to their children openly and honestly about what has happened open
the door for the child to join the family in the grieving process. Open communication allows the child
to ask unanswered questions and slowly begin the grieving and healing process along with the support
of the family members.
Your mother is very sick and very close to dying, as a parent you are now facing a difficult challenge
of having to explain to your six year old child what is going to happen to grandma. Children at six
year old are in a transitional stage between two cognitive stage of development. Each child needs to be
assessed as an individual. Depending on what the child is able to cognitive grasp, will largely
influence how you approach this discussion. Some six year olds,

The Importance Of Operant Conditioning
Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted experiments on
dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under certain conditions. These studies were
conducted through replicating and standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in through a
controlled environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to learn when
they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B. F.) developed the core
idea of the Operant Conditioning Skinner, which claims that operant conditioning, was brought about
by the response from the operant under threat (Sakagami, Lattal, 2016). Some factors were involved in
the increase of the operant conditioning especially when Edward Thorndike was examining the
behavior of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the problem solving abilities of these animals
within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the animals in a state of constraint. Moreover, there
was a need to understand the relationship exhibited between the appropriate reaction to the individual
situation and the associated strengths to the same. Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the
animals to learn under the conditions presented as was later proven by Skinner.
The core principles that are important in understanding the operant conditioning and how it may result
in the retention offer includes the operant variability where the individual may experience emitted

men to be affected by ED, at some point in their life is high. Similarly, ED has affected as many as 80
million men worldwide. There are direct causes of ED and there are also risk factors, which everyman
is exposed to, to impotence. Many synthetic pharmaceuticals have been formulated to manage the
problems of ED. On the other hand, there are dietary supplements (male enhancement pills) on the

The Role Of Fate In Oedipus The King
In the play Oedipus The King by Sophocles, Apollo had declared the murderer of the former king of
Thebes, Laius, as the one responsible for the hardships that Thebes had faced. Oedipus, determined to
find the culprit, led an investigation into the murder. Throughout the journey of the mystery, Oedipus s
fate, the prophecy that foretold that Oedipus would kill his father and wed and bear children with his
mother, was gradually fulfilled. Essentially, bits of Oedipus s destiny were proven to be true as new
information continuously came to light throughout his detective work of the initial crime, despite his
constant efforts to avoid the truth of what occurred. This particular investigative expedition not only
concluded with the mystery of Laius s true killer being brought to light, but it also illuminated the
definitive power and restrictiveness of fate and the role it played within the story itself. According to
Greek mythology, fate is an inevitable influence that has the power to rear one s future whether they
are aware of it or not. Within Oedipus s situation, this concept is held true. Specifically, During the
middle of the investigation, when Oedipus was questioning a messenger from Thebes, the messenger
said If you ran from them, always dodging home... for which Oedipus responded Always, terrified
Apollo s oracle might come true . The messenger then exclaimed You ve really nothing to fear...
Polybus was nothing to you, that s why, not in blood (1107, 1108, 1111,

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) involves dispute resolution processes and techniques that fall
outside of the government judicial process. There has been moves against ADR in the past by entities
of many political parties and their associates, despite this, ADR has gained inclusive acceptance
among both the broad community and the legal profession in past years. In fact, many courts now
entail some parties to remedy to ADR of some type, usually mediation, before allowing the parties

Normally Direct ‘negotiations , which aren t really a structured mechanism, initiate from one party
implementing a settlement on the other party instead that the parties continue by way of negotiation to
a consensual resolution. We can say that in Direct negotiations there is no third party who assists the
resolution process or imposes a resolution.
Both Conciliation and mediation initiate in an agreement among the disputants to call in the help of a
facilitator to aid in the structuring and conduct of settlement negotiations which will comprise, as part
of their nature, private consultations with each disputant. Usually no one has an authority to impose a
solution on the disputant this includes judges, arbitrators and facilitators. A third party that is the
mediator is in the mediation process, he/she facilitates the resolution process(and may even suggest a
resolution, typically known as a mediator s proposal ), this however does not inflict a resolution on the
parties. In Australia ADR is mediation because after all mediation is a process of ADR. The distinction
among the processes lies in the position of the third party facilitator whose role may be submissive
this means to find a consensual agreement without providing opinions by isolating the issues of

The symbolism of the plant in A Raisin in the Sun
The symbolism of the plant in A Raisin in the Sun
One might ask how the scientific facts of the functional purpose of a plant would connect to a literary
piece, especially the well known play, A Raisin in the Sun, written by Lorraine Hansberry. The plant in
the text symbolizes the foundation for the family, honest hope, and Mama s dreams. Symbolism is not
a definition of an item, but represents something specific other than itself. Much like Mama s plant, it
represents many meaningful ideas with supportive evidence throughout the text. The plant standing
alone may seem like a generic addition to the setting of the Younger household, but when it is
observed in a deeper analytical approach; the symbolism of it in itself holds such ... Show more

It also functions as transportation for minerals and food to the other parts, much like how Mama
conveys her strength and wisdom throughout the family. When one imagines a stem of any plant,
whether it is a large tree in a forest, or a small plant in a windowsill, the same illusion and symbolism
comes to mind. The symbolic nature that a stem holds up heavy branches above qualifies as strength
and stability. Mama is not solely one part of this plant, but all parts in different contexts. The lack of
light that the plant gets lessens the chances of its survival, but the neither plant nor Mama give up.
Discussing about her children and they tempers, Mama then addresses that if her little old plant don t
get more sun than it s been getting it ain t never going to see spring again (Act 1, scene 1, 40). The
light symbolizes the energy the plant needs in order to grow, and her family desperately needs the
same. Mama knows that her family needs a shot of hope to have any chance at happiness. The lack of
light on her plant is much like the lack of hope within her family. Although there is negativity, she
stands tall, much like a stem to continue moving forward towards their dreams.
Hope is a strong word that I believe is the only thing greater than fear. Mama and the Younger family
hold onto that little bit of hope to get to where the need to go. Mama s sturdiness and consistency

The Other Wes Moore Outlier Analysis
In an interview, Malcolm Gladwell once said, Outliers makes us understand how much of a group
project success is. When outliers become outliers, it is not just because of their own efforts. It s
because of the contributions of lots of different people and lots of different circumstances. Wes Moore
is one of the many great examples of a Gladwellian outlier, as evinced by his upbringing,
extraordinary success, and the rare opportunities he received. From growing up in a broken

decision after decision ultimately landed him with a life sentence in prison. The author Wes s mother,
however, refused to allow this behavior to continue. As a method of intervention, she forced Moore to

The Idea Of Concealed Carry Arms Essay
The idea of Concealed Carry arms at universities is a controversial topic for both students and faculty
on whether guns should be allowed or banned on campuses throughout the United States. The idea of
Concealed Carry Arms is a controversial topic because it represents both protection and fear as no one
knows who has a weapon, whether they have it legally or even if they know how to use it properly and
safely. Also, nobody knows of someone else s intentions with Concealed Carry Arms as they could use
that gun for protection or murder. The idea of allowing Concealed Carry Arms on campus is a
controversial topic that could affect universities and campuses in the United States. The University of
Toledo has had one incident this year with guns on campus. At the beginning of the semester a person
that was believed to be another student pulled a gun on another student and demanded the victim s car
keys. When the victim refused, the gunmen fired a shot at the ground then ran. This brings up the
debate of whether people can be trusted to have Concealed Carry Arms on campus or not. Such as the
gunmen earlier this semester. The United States has also seen Problems at other schools with guns and
violence such as the Virginia Tech incident back in April of 2007 that left 32 victims as well as the

research question consists of two variables, the first variable is gender and the second variable is
knowledge about their target blood pressure. In order to analyze the two variables within a sample, the
writer will go through seven hypothesis testing steps, with the results obtained a discussion of the
finding will be provided, implications to research and nursing practice explored and lastly a discussion
on demographic data from the previous assignment.
Hypothesis Testing
There are seven steps that will be used within this paper to test a hypothesis. These steps include the
following; Step 1: which is stating the null hypothesis, stating the research hypothesis, identifying the
target population and sample population, identifying the independent variable and dependent variable.
Step 2: establishing the level of significance. Step 3: selecting a one tailed or two tailed test. Step 4:
conducting the test and excel and providing the results as an excel output. Step 5: calculating the
degree of freedom. Step 6: stating the critical value to exceed by the calculated test statistic. Lastly,
Step 7: comparing the calculated test statistic and to the level of significance and making a decision
about the results. The following steps will be explained in further detail below.

Pluto Pros And Cons
People love Pluto, whether they are young or old it does not seem to matter. The planet (and Walt
Disney s beloved character) holds a special place in a lot of people s hearts. Yet, this only became
clear to me after reading The Pluto Files by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I remember when Pluto s
classification changed from being a planet to a dwarf planet however, I was never aware of how big of
a controversy it caused. The fact that there was a conference deciding whether or not we should keep
Pluto as our ninth planet was not something I was aware of previously to this book. Tyson does a
wonderful job explaining the story of Pluto and not only the how the planet was reclassified but also
why. As we spoke about in class Pluto does not really fit into the categories of being a planet, this was
one of the major arguments as to why Pluto should not be considered our nineth planet anymore. I
believe that it is interesting that some people were trying to then create a classification specifically for
Pluto. However, this obviously did not come to be as there must be more than one of something in
order for it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is surprising is how people reacted and continue to over the decision. I agree with Tyson when
he says Find quote about Pluto being the smallest planet and largest dwarf planet Yet, it is surprising
that a lot of people do not feel this way. Why are people so emotionally attached to an object that is
billions of miles away? Is it because it was one of the easier planets to remember in the solar system?
Or perhaps it was because it was the smallest and people tend to cheer for the underdog. No doubt
Disney s fun, loving pup had some help in the matter as well. Whatever the case people feel strongly
enough about the issue to write Tyson personally about the regrouping of their favorite planet. Again
what surprises me is that it was not only children but also

The Pros And Cons Of The Cuban Embargo
The new era began, Barack Obama and Raúl Castro announced that the United States of America and
Cuba will restore full diplomatic relations for the first time in more than 50 years since severing ties in
1961. Barston 2006, defines diplomatic relations as the art and practice of conducting negotiations
between representatives of states. It usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of
international relations through the intercession of professional diplomats with regard to issues of peace
making, trade, economics and culture (p. 1). One of the major areas it will address is the lifting of the
Cuban embargo. The embargo restricts trade, travel and communication between the two states which
hinders the economic development of Cuba. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Scola (2014) It is estimated that only 5 percent of the Cuban population has access to the
open Internet . All Internet connections in Cuba are available exclusively through Empresa de
Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A. (ETECSA). Because wireless Internet service is not available to the
general population, landline Internet is the sole means of connecting people in Cuba to the Internet.
The combination of inadequate infrastructure and the government s deliberate policy which controls
access to the internet have produced an extremely slow service that is not widely available throughout
the population. With better diplomatic relations with the United States the Cuban government can
benefit greatly from telecommunications mostly internet advancements which can positively affect the
economy in many ways. First, it can reduce the cost of production. Second, it can increase revenues.
Third, it can increase employment through both direct and indirect effects and lastly it provides
channels of communication to avert humanitarian disasters and assist in reconstruction efforts. The
United States help the Cuban economy to develop the telecommunications by providing the country

Investigation Of Sleep Essay
Introduction
The amount of sleep varies with each individual and there are many factors that affects this such as
age, lifestyle, environment and health. However, the recommended number of hours for the average
adult is between seven to nine hours. To remain unconscious for approximately a third of one s life
suggests that sleep must serve some crucial function, especially when considering the evolutionary
viewpoint that to be less responsive to potentially threatening external stimuli (e.g. predators) for such
prolonged periods of time has been conserved across all animal species despite being counter intuitive
and a danger to survival.
There have been countless numbers of studies investigating the function of sleep leading to various
theories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seen to die with induced TSD over a time period of 12 days. For obvious ethical reasons, the same
experiment has not been conducted on humans, contrary to what was rumoured. The ethics of animal
testing are being viewed much more seriously in the recent years with TSD experiments resulting in

Identity Crisis In The Color Of Water
While reading this novel, many themes crossed my mind, but the one that I found the most important
was Identity Crisis. James, the author of The Color of Water, wrote about how he struggled with
knowing who he was and what his purpose in life was.
James wasn t sure what race he was. He was confused due to the fact that his mother was white, and
he was white. His mother and him shared a conversation about the color of water. His mother, Ruth,
compared peoples races to the clearness of water. His mother quotes, God is the color of water. Water
doesn t have a color, (51). I think that this means that God is a million different colors, and if you
think about it, water s color changes due to its surroundings. Another example on how the title of the
book relates to James and his identity problems, is that water moves with what s around it. During the
winter it freezes and during the summer it s filled with fish. When you picture a stream, do you see it
ever stopping? That s because it doesn t.. Streams go on and on without pausing, and that s kind of ...

One, for example, is childhood and/or parenting. I interviewed my mother, Amy, and asked her a few
questions about her life as a childhood, and she viewed her parents. Just by asking her about some of
her mistakes she made, how respected she was, how she viewed her parents, how her parents treated
her when she was a kid, and some of the difficulties that she faces as a parent.
The first question I asked was how has your parents treating you through your early years, changed
the way you parent your own children now? My mom s first response was that she tries to be a little
less controlling than her mother was to her. She had no freedom when she was younger, so she tries to
let my siblings and I have a little more room to wiggle. We have Dahl blood, so we are a little on the
crazy side. So she sets some boundaries, but not a lot that she s being too

Ncaa Ethics And Compliance Program
Case Study 2: NCAA Ethics and Compliance Program

Ethics and Advocacy for HR Pro / HRM 522
November 14, 2016
Dr. Leslie Wills
Abstract
A few years ago, there was much discussion relating to the National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA) and those units responsible for instituting student athlete and athletic department policy. This
purpose of this paper is to discuss the ethical misconduct that occurred at Penn State, Ohio State and
the University of Arkansas, and how the NCAA played a role in the wrongdoing. Coaches, players,
and administrators face mounting pressures brought on by the need to sell seats and win games. In
response, this type of pressure creates opportunities for offenses to take place. The first component of
the paper will be to determine the fundamental ways in which the ethics programs of the NCAA failed
to prevent the scandals at Penn State, Ohio State, and the University of Arkansas. Once those
measures are identified and discussed, the ways the NCAA leadership contributed to the ethical
violations of these schools will be discussed. The next element of the paper will predict the key
differences in the scandals that occurred at each school if an effective ethics program was
implemented. Next, the paper will suggest actions that the NCAA leadership should take to regain the
trust and confidence of the students and stakeholders. The last section will identify measures that HR

Thom Gunn’s In the Tank
Thom Gunn s In the Tank A Manifestation of the Human Consciousness
A thorough analysis of subject material and literary style exhibits the complexity of establishing a
strong thematic base, which does not deter from the ebb and flow of a poetic medium . In Thom Gunn
s In the Tank, a felon is overwhelmed by emotion at the state of his existence in prison. In what
appears to be a moment s reflection, Thom Gunn s narrator in In the Tank reveals an abundance of
sentiment pertaining to his environment. From meticulous description of the prison environment, to
the exasperated feeling of loneliness and dejection, Gunn lures an audience into a seeming first hand
account of prison life.
However, a broader subject matter lay hidden in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus being established, literary devices are used in the description of the tank.
The second stanza of Tank begins with a course of alliteration that is both an enlightening and
confusing commentary on the poem. The cell was clean and cornered, and contained (line 5). Upon a
visual appreciation of the line, c is repeated four times. However, when the line is spoken out loud,
cell is pronounced with a soft se while clean and cornered, and contained are pronounced with a hard
k sound. Gunn s use of adjectives to describe the man s surroundings are proof of the figurative
difference between a cell and a tank. A cell is what the institution gives an inmate. It is exactly what
Gunn has described it as: clean and cornered, and contained. A tank, relatively speaking, is a
continuation of the cell, beyond what the institution issues. The word cell acts as a façade for the true
definition of the word (the clean and cornered and contained aspect of the cell). The cell, in turn, is a
part of the inmate s consciousness through exposure and constant scrutiny of surroundings and
becomes the tank. The use of the past tense indicates the flow of events from a cell to a tank. The cell
was clean and cornered and contained. Granted, the cell was all these, but what has the tank become?
After all, the environment is described as the felon s tank in line one. Again, an insinuation of

F1 Racing
Formula racing is a term that refers to various forms of open wheeled single seater motorsport. Its
origin lies in the nomenclature that was adopted by theFIA for all of its post World War II single seater
regulations, or formulae. The best known of these formulæ are Formula One, Formula Two, and
Formula Three. Common usage of formula racing encompasses other single seater series, including
the GP2 Series, which replaced Formula 3000 (which had itself been the effective replacement for
Formula Two).
Categories such as Formula Three and GP2 are described as feeder formulæ, which refers to their
position below Formula One on the career ladder of single seater motor racing. There are two primary

A Qualifying session is held after the last free practice session. This session determines the starting
order for the race.[43][44]
[edit]Qualifying
A typical pitwall control centre, from which the team managers and strategists communicate with their
drivers and engineers over the course of a testing session or a race weekend.
For much of the sport s history, qualifying sessions differed little from practice sessions; drivers would
have one or more entire sessions in which to attempt to set their fastest time, sometimes within a
limited number of attempts, with the grid order determined by each driver s best single lap, fastest (on
pole position) to slowest. Grids were limited to the fastest 26 cars and drivers had to lap within 107%
of the pole sitter s time to qualify for the race; the 107% rule (as it is commonly known) was re
introduced for 2011. Other formats have included Friday pre qualifying, and sessions in which each
driver was allowed only one qualifying lap, run separately in a predetermined order.
The current qualifying system was adopted for the 2006 season. Known as knock out qualifying, it is
split into three periods (or rounds). In each period, drivers run qualifying laps to attempt to advance to
the next period, running as many laps as they wish, with the slowest drivers being knocked out at the
end of the period and their grid positions set, based on their

Relationship Between Jason And Medea In Jesmyn Ward s...
In the book Salvage the Bones, by Jesmyn Ward, there is a parallel storyline between Esch s life and
the ancient myth of Jason and Medea. Throughout the book, Esch constantly compares herself with
Medea, while referring to Manny as Jason. Both Esch and Medea are forced to cope with the fact that
the two people whom they loved and cherished most in the world have deceived them. As Esch s
character comes of age throughout the book, her decreasing dependency on Manny helps her gain
strength, just as Medea did once she realized the depth of Jason s betrayal. Although the relationship
of Jason and Medea mirrors that of Esch and Manny in some important ways, Esch s story ends better

had a chat with her dad, in which he was convinced that Esch should keep the baby. This made her
more confident, to know that she had not only her brother s approval, but also her father s approval
(247). Esch s family and friends are accepting of her pregnancy, and they all even offer to help take
care of her and the baby, in hopes that this baby will be the miracle which will bring the family
together. After this conversation with her dad, Big Henry also confronts her about this conversation,
which he has accidentally listened on. He asked her Who the daddy? , and when she cautiously replies
with It don t have no daddy , he caringly replies to her You wrong...this baby got multiple daddies ,
which shows that even though he isn t a part of the family, he is implying that he will assist in raising
the baby, along with her real family (254). Medea is not as fortunate as Esch. After being betrayed by
Jason, she had no one to turn to, not even her own family. So, to take revenge on Jason, she resorts to
murdering all of their children, and even his new bride, leaving him with no one, the way that he left
her. Esch and Medea are constantly compared, but this is the one

Life Cycle Events In Greek Orthodoxy
Life Cycle Events of Greek Orthodoxy
College is a melting pot of many cultures from around the world. I am lucky enough to live with
someone who is comes from a very different religion than me: my roommate Lindsay Andrews. While
I come from a reformed Jewish family, hers is Greek Orthodox. I spoke to Lindsey about the four
major life cycle events of the Greek Orthodox Church, the first of which is birth. Between the ages of
three and nine months, Greek Orthodox infants are baptized. This means that the infant is dipped in
water, representing how Christ was also baptized. The ceremony takes place in the cathedral, with
family and church members present. The priest conducts the ceremony, and parents and godparents of
the child participate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, participants in the ceremony must be Greek Orthodox. There are also specific rules about
who can be godparents, as they are tasked with the spiritual upbringing of the infant. Other than
having to be pious members of the Greek Orthodoxy, they also cannot be minors, mentally challenged
persons, clergy, the biological parents of the child, or someone ignorant of the faith (Wilson). The
baby is dressed in a special outfit for the baptism. Lindsay said hers was long and white (Andrews). At
the ceremony, the child is also given a baptismal name. If they already have the name of a Greek saint
(such as Paul), it remains the same. But if it is not, then they are given an additional Greek Orthodox
name. For example, Lindsay said, my name is Lindsay, which is Scottish, and so my baptismal name
is Nicoletta, which is based off my middle name Nicole (Andrews). After the ceremony there is a
celebration, but it does not contain particular foods. In the days following the

Gold Coast Crime
Recent media attention has tended to indicate that there is a serious crime problem on the Gold Coast.
According to various sources through research and statistics, sexual assault is problematic on the Gold
Coast. Assaults are physical offensives of sexual nature, focused towards another person who does not
give consent, and is incapable of giving consent because of youth, or temporary/ permanent
incapacity. (week 5) Assaults include; rape, sexual assault, child molestation, bestiality, voyeurism,
necrophilia and prostitution. Sexual assault includes rape, unlawful sexual touching, sodomy, buggery,

Drink spiking occurs when a person deliberately adds alcohol or another drug to a drink without the
knowledge of the person who will be drinking it. This means the person could become intoxicated
unexpectedly. Drinks are spiked for a number of reasons. These include amusement or to facilitate
sexual assault, rape or theft (Lievore). The couple was facing an eviction from their landlord regarding
loud noises and chaos caused on a weekend night. The couple had no idea about the scene they caused
and woke up to a complete blur. I had bruises and cuts on my body. Everything was upside down,
clothes were outside of cupboards, pictures had been thrown on the floor. The fiancé who experienced
identical memory gaps, was asked by his landlord to leave the apartment because of what he feared to
assume was a domestic violence case. Sexual assault is also commonly linked with drink spiking.
Estimates suggest that one third of drink spiking incidents are associated with a sexual attack
(Lievore). This couple was at a local bar on the Gold Coast called Waxy s. They believed that their
drinks were spiked and took tests to find out for sure. The blood tests confirmed that they had been
drugged and showed that they both tested positive to methamphetamine and tranquillizer
benzodiazepines. The landlord then let the couple stay trusting that something like this would not
happen again. Chances are the couple was drugged to either sexually assault the female, or to violently
assault the male. Crime is evidently a problem on the Gold Coast. About a week before this incident
the Gold Coast paramedics were called to a large spate of drug overdoses and incidents involving 21
people who had taken synthetic hallucinogen called N Bomb (Womens weekly). The Gold Coast most
categorically faces a problem with crime. Schoolies was approaching,

There are three types of tourism which is domestic, inbound and outbound tourism.
Domestic tourism
When a tourist travels around the same country, as they live in. For example when you live in London
and decide to go for a tour in the palace of Westminster, then you are a domestic tourism. A domestic
tourism traveller does not have to book a place to stay because they can go home on the day they went
to visit.

Other roads are normal local roads linking to other local places such as Hayes to Uxbridge. This
would be used by some tourists who want to discover local areas and wanted to travel to another local
city or places.
Rail
Network rail operates and owns the national rail network in UK. People or tourists can travel from
different country by trains, such as Euro star which operates UK to France. This shows that you can
travel to some certain countries by train; it is cheaper than other ports and inbound and outbound
tourist would use euro stars. There are city trains such as virgin trains (http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/)
which link London to other major cities such as Manchester and Birmingham; the cost depends on the
destination. This train would be mostly used by domestic tourist. On the other hand, there re London
underground (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/) which operates London to different and larger parts of London
such as Northolt, leisure square, Oxford Street, Marbella arch, Luton, Modern, Croydon etc. however
it can be very busy in some times due to the works times and etc. inbound and domestic tourists would
use the underground because its faster and it s a nice experience to travel underground trains.

Impacts on Banana and Coffee Farmers Due to Trade Agreements
Agriculture is undoubtedly the most important activity for the majority of the world s poor, and at the
same time it is the most protected sector in industrial countries. Agriculture continues to play an
important role throughout the world, while in recent years, farmers have been negatively and
positively affected by the trade agreements established by both the WTO and Fair Trade system;
specifically the banana and coffee farmers. The government s role was to liberalize trade by reducing
tariffs and they initiated this by introducing GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs). This
was an agreement between countries that slowly expanded to include countries. Agricultural Trade
was left out of the GATT due to the U.S. and European Union banana war. This is a trade dispute
between the US and EU on how the bananas are sourced and imported, even though neither one of
these countries are the banana growers. The GATT was later re established as the WTO (World Trade
Organization). As Weis stated, The WTO s Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) came into effect in 1995
and constitutes a major landmark in the development of the global food economy as its set in place,
for the first time, multilateral rules restricting the sovereignty of governments to establish their own
agricultural policies. Their main focus was to establish a fair and market oriented agricultural trading
system. Their objective is to entrench and extend the rights of transnational capital in trade and

  • 2. Redefining Heroism Throughout The Language Of The Brag Samuel Ballantyne Dr. Van Aken English 152 Final Essay 5/3/2017 Redefining Heroism in the Language of the Brag Sharon Olds author of the Language of the Brag, suggests through her experience in the poem that our society and culture altogether is male dominated towards achievement and focused more for men s success and heroism. Men are typically known for their strength and courage, especially heroic acts in society. When things are expected to get done, it s naturally expected for the guy to do it. And through her use of repetition and tone in the Language of the Brag the author describes certain attributes that she once lacked to later achieving in the poem. Significantly, Olds uses repetition to make a statement from I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also poetic action depicted in the poem, in which the writer establishes her longing to perform an act of heroism or extraordinary achievement. I think my biggest surprise was her casual use of sexual language, using a vibrating cock as a metaphor, and later using the knife reference again saying she was stabbed in her inner sex. Sharon Olds speaks so fiercely about the woman s body, that you feel she s almost competing against the constant objectivity against the woman s body. You can tell she speaks from experience, she s watched the boys play and all she wants is to show them that she has suffered as a woman and is better for it. She s stronger, prouder, and for that reason has a right to brag and redefine heroism. The middle of the poem is crucial because Sharon Olds is able to link heroism to the act of birth. It is also where the speaker changes her statement from I have wanted to I have. Sharon Olds does this by using graphic images to emphasize her point in the act of birth. She states, my inner sex/ stabbed again and again with terrible pain like a knife./ I have lain down./ I have lain down and sweated and shaken/ and passed blood and feces and water and/ slowly alone in the center of a circle I have/ passed the new person out (lines 19 25). This transition I have wanted to I have is important not only because its shows the author s new found strength through the process of the act, Olds herself is finally the center of ... Pros: There are several benefits to opening a secondary production plant and warehouse: increased output, savings on freight costs, close proximity to current retail shops, and the potential to open new retail stores. The new facility will be an exact replication of the West Coast facility, with the exception of offices, on sight retail outlet, and tour groups. The advantage of the East Coast facility being an exact replication, Scharffen Berger will be able to forecast their exact yearly production output, in which will be double to keep up with demand. Insert small chart here Opening a facility in Kentucky allows the company to ship their products to the Scharffen Berger retail stores located in New York City (Upper West Side and Greenwich Village), and other upscale department and retailers, such as Trader Joes, located throughout the United States. • 4. The Aztecs The Aztecs Were Ahead Of Their Time The Aztecs, though considered by the Spanish to be uncivilized, are now considered to be one of the most advanced civilizations of their time. They have made advancements in many different fields and their comparison to the modern day world is unbelievable. In their short span of existence, they were able to create a prosperous empire that was both structured and creative. They have risen above other nations in their time, including those in Europe, in many different ways. The Aztecs were ahead of their time because several aspects of their civilization are heavily reflected in the modern day world. In the beginning, the Aztecs were a nomadic tribe. They could have been considered barbaric savages through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Europe ran on a monarchy, the Aztecs went a step beyond. They took an idea that we have been using now, dividing their land into different sections and appointing a local government for that specific region. ( Aztec History ) Although they referred to it as tribute at the time, their form of payment to their government was one that greatly resembles today s income taxes. Because they did not have a form of currency, they paid tribute in supplies, such as cloth and food. This kept the power in the government, a skill necessary in a rising empire. ( Aztec History ) These people also had an extremely structured court system, which is almost identical to the one we have now. This system consisted of three levels, the trial courts, appellate courts, and the supreme court. When a case is brought to one of the appellate courts, their emperor reviews it. If he finds that the issue is too important for the court to handle, he rules the final decision. ( Tarlton Law Aztec and Maya Law) The Aztecs were very concerned with the safety of the people, which is why they have laws for both crimes, and personal safety. The punishment for small rate crimes is repaying the crime with goods or work. For higher crimes, however, the penalty is death. (The Aztecs Tim Wood) The Aztecs were focused on creating a safer ... • 5. Understanding The Roots Of Crime One may avoid negativity for any kind of reason. One may be distressed by it, or perhaps one may find negativity traumatizing to their emotions. Whatever it may be, some people attempt to dodge any sort of negativity. The topic of my independent novel serves to not only challenge the idea of avoiding any kind of depressing news, but to bring light to new ways of thinking that humanity should adopt should we want to understand the roots of crime. Furthermore, we should use our knowledge of these roots to prevent crime. On a hot July day in 1965, Gertrude Baniszewski was living on the edge. A once beautiful woman, she was worn out from parenthood and poverty. With practically no income, she had to raise seven children by ironing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paula broke her wrist slugging Sylvia in the jaw and subsequently went to church and bragged about it. The Likens parents came to visit the girls between fairs, and they saw nothing out of the visits. Later still, Sylvia was accused of spreading rumors that Paula and Stephanie Baniszewski were prostitutes at Arsenal Technical High School. This provoked Stephanie s boyfriend, Coy Hubbard to flip Sylvia onto the floor and bang her head against the wall. Gertrude encouraged other neighborhood children floating in and out of the house to flip Sylvia and burn her with cigarettes. Torture became the neighborhood game. What served as Gertrude s pretense for keeping Sylvia out of school is the alleged theft of a gym suit. Soon after, Sylvia became incontinent, and Gertrude locked her in the basement. A bathing regime came into action; every other day, Sylvia was burned with scalding water. She was starved and often kept naked. Grosser indignities were to follow, with Gertrude continuing to authorize Sylvia s torture carried out by the neighborhood children. A few days before her death, Gertrude decided that Sylvia deserved to be branded after she branded her daughters. She began to carve the words, I ᴍ ᴀ ᴘʀᴏsᴛɪᴛᴜᴛᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴘʀᴏᴜᴅ ᴏꜰ ɪᴛ! onto Sylvia s belly with a heated needle. • 7. Physical Activity Level And Health Status Benefits of Physical Activity: Many evidences are now showing that regular exercise is an effective strategy to prevent and treat several chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, depression, and osteoporosis) [29]. It has been demonstrated that the current CPAG is sufficient to elicit health benefits, especially in people who were previously sedentary [30]. Generally, a positive linear relationship exists between physical activity level and health status [31]. Both aerobic and resistance exercises have been shown to be associated with positive health outcomes [32 34]. Barriers Associated with Physical Activity: Many barriers have been identified which attribute to why people do not exercise regularly to obtain and maintain health benefits [35, 36]. Commitment towards family, work pressure, and time have been rated as common barriers people face to be physically active [8]. Recent advances in technology have resulted in an increases in time spent sedentarily, especially at work [37], but also in leisure time [38, 39]. In addition, long hours of work is specifically a barrier for adults as they are mentally exhausted and do not feel like exercising [40]. Specifically for older adults, fear of getting injured from physical activity and self efficacy restricts them from being sufficiently physically active to observe optimal health benefits [40]. When younger children are shielded from death, silence does not take away their pain; it only increases the sense of isolation and abandonment. Almost all children will sometime be affected by death of someone they know or love, how well a child understands and copes with the dying of someone, largely depends on how efficiently parents explain dying and death to that child. Many adults refrain themselves from discussing this issue simply because they are unsure of what actually to say. Adults who are scared of this topic will try to avoid talking to their children about it. The avoidance from parents will only silence the child from the pain that they feel and will not allow the child an opportunity to successfully grieve for their loss. Parents who are willing to talk to their children openly and honestly about what has happened open the door for the child to join the family in the grieving process. Open communication allows the child to ask unanswered questions and slowly begin the grieving and healing process along with the support of the family members. • 9. The Importance Of Operant Conditioning Operant Conditioning Within the early 19th Century, Edward Throne like conducted experiments on dogs and cats to determine the way these animals behave under certain conditions. These studies were conducted through replicating and standardizing the circumstances that the animals were in through a controlled environment. As such, this model demonstrated that animals had the nature to learn when they were presented with certain consequences. In 1938, Burrhus Friederich (B. F.) developed the core idea of the Operant Conditioning Skinner, which claims that operant conditioning, was brought about by the response from the operant under threat (Sakagami, Lattal, 2016). Some factors were involved in the increase of the operant conditioning especially when Edward Thorndike was examining the behavior of cats and rats. It was necessary to consider the problem solving abilities of these animals within puzzle boxes that would otherwise lead the animals in a state of constraint. Moreover, there was a need to understand the relationship exhibited between the appropriate reaction to the individual situation and the associated strengths to the same. Moreover, other factors such as the ability of the animals to learn under the conditions presented as was later proven by Skinner. The core principles that are important in understanding the operant conditioning and how it may result in the retention offer includes the operant variability where the individual may experience emitted behavioral ... Throughout the journey of the mystery, Oedipus s fate, the prophecy that foretold that Oedipus would kill his father and wed and bear children with his mother, was gradually fulfilled. Essentially, bits of Oedipus s destiny were proven to be true as new information continuously came to light throughout his detective work of the initial crime, despite his constant efforts to avoid the truth of what occurred. This particular investigative expedition not only concluded with the mystery of Laius s true killer being brought to light, but it also illuminated the definitive power and restrictiveness of fate and the role it played within the story itself. According to Greek mythology, fate is an inevitable influence that has the power to rear one s future whether they are aware of it or not. Within Oedipus s situation, this concept is held true. Specifically, During the middle of the investigation, when Oedipus was questioning a messenger from Thebes, the messenger said If you ran from them, always dodging home... for which Oedipus responded Always, terrified Apollo s oracle might come true . The messenger then exclaimed You ve really nothing to fear... Polybus was nothing to you, that s why, not in blood (1107, 1108, 1111, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The symbolism of the plant in A Raisin in the Sun The symbolism of the plant in A Raisin in the Sun One might ask how the scientific facts of the functional purpose of a plant would connect to a literary piece, especially the well known play, A Raisin in the Sun, written by Lorraine Hansberry. The plant in the text symbolizes the foundation for the family, honest hope, and Mama s dreams. Symbolism is not a definition of an item, but represents something specific other than itself. Much like Mama s plant, it represents many meaningful ideas with supportive evidence throughout the text. When one imagines a stem of any plant, whether it is a large tree in a forest, or a small plant in a windowsill, the same illusion and symbolism comes to mind. The symbolic nature that a stem holds up heavy branches above qualifies as strength and stability. Mama is not solely one part of this plant, but all parts in different contexts. The lack of light that the plant gets lessens the chances of its survival, but the neither plant nor Mama give up. Discussing about her children and they tempers, Mama then addresses that if her little old plant don t get more sun than it s been getting it ain t never going to see spring again (Act 1, scene 1, 40). The light symbolizes the energy the plant needs in order to grow, and her family desperately needs the same. Mama knows that her family needs a shot of hope to have any chance at happiness. The lack of light on her plant is much like the lack of hope within her family. Although there is negativity, she stands tall, much like a stem to continue moving forward towards their dreams. This purpose of this paper is to discuss the ethical misconduct that occurred at Penn State, Ohio State and the University of Arkansas, and how the NCAA played a role in the wrongdoing. Coaches, players, and administrators face mounting pressures brought on by the need to sell seats and win games. In response, this type of pressure creates opportunities for offenses to take place. The first component of the paper will be to determine the fundamental ways in which the ethics programs of the NCAA failed to prevent the scandals at Penn State, Ohio State, and the University of Arkansas. Once those measures are identified and discussed, the ways the NCAA leadership contributed to the ethical violations of these schools will be discussed. The next element of the paper will predict the key differences in the scandals that occurred at each school if an effective ethics program was implemented. Upon a visual appreciation of the line, c is repeated four times. However, when the line is spoken out loud, cell is pronounced with a soft se while clean and cornered, and contained are pronounced with a hard k sound. Gunn s use of adjectives to describe the man s surroundings are proof of the figurative difference between a cell and a tank. A cell is what the institution gives an inmate. It is exactly what Gunn has described it as: clean and cornered, and contained. A tank, relatively speaking, is a continuation of the cell, beyond what the institution issues. The word cell acts as a façade for the true definition of the word (the clean and cornered and contained aspect of the cell). The cell, in turn, is a part of the inmate s consciousness through exposure and constant scrutiny of surroundings and becomes the tank. The use of the past tense indicates the flow of events from a cell to a tank. The cell was clean and cornered and contained. Granted, the cell was all these, but what has the tank become? This means the person could become intoxicated unexpectedly. Drinks are spiked for a number of reasons. These include amusement or to facilitate sexual assault, rape or theft (Lievore). The couple was facing an eviction from their landlord regarding loud noises and chaos caused on a weekend night. The couple had no idea about the scene they caused and woke up to a complete blur. I had bruises and cuts on my body. Everything was upside down, clothes were outside of cupboards, pictures had been thrown on the floor. The fiancé who experienced identical memory gaps, was asked by his landlord to leave the apartment because of what he feared to assume was a domestic violence case. Sexual assault is also commonly linked with drink spiking. Estimates suggest that one third of drink spiking incidents are associated with a sexual attack (Lievore). This couple was at a local bar on the Gold Coast called Waxy s. They believed that their drinks were spiked and took tests to find out for sure. The blood tests confirmed that they had been drugged and showed that they both tested positive to methamphetamine and tranquillizer benzodiazepines. The landlord then let the couple stay trusting that something like this would not happen again. Chances are the couple was drugged to either sexually assault the female, or to violently assault the male. Crime is evidently a problem on the Gold Coast. About a week before this incident the Gold Coast paramedics were called to a large spate of drug overdoses and incidents involving 21 people who had taken synthetic hallucinogen called N Bomb (Womens weekly). The Gold Coast most categorically faces a problem with crime. Schoolies was approaching, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impacts on Banana and Coffee Farmers Due to Trade Agreements Agriculture is undoubtedly the most important activity for the majority of the world s poor, and at the same time it is the most protected sector in industrial countries. Agriculture continues to play an important role throughout the world, while in recent years, farmers have been negatively and positively affected by the trade agreements established by both the WTO and Fair Trade system; specifically the banana and coffee farmers. The government s role was to liberalize trade by reducing tariffs and they initiated this by introducing GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs). This was an agreement between countries that slowly expanded to include countries. Agricultural Trade was left out of the GATT due to the U.S. and European Union banana war. This is a trade dispute between the US and EU on how the bananas are sourced and imported, even though neither one of these countries are the banana growers. The GATT was later re established as the WTO (World Trade Organization). As Weis stated, The WTO s Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) came into effect in 1995 and constitutes a major landmark in the development of the global food economy as its set in place, for the first time, multilateral rules restricting the sovereignty of governments to establish their own agricultural policies. Their main focus was to establish a fair and market oriented agricultural trading system. Their objective is to entrench and extend the rights of transnational capital in trade and ...
