backyards. But there are also NFL games on every thanksgiving. The Detroit Lions play every
Thanksgiving, as do the Dallas Cowboys. This tradition started back in 1920 when the league first
came about (There is a wikipedia article on this topic, and yes it is credible. You scroll down to the

CHANGE, TRANSITION, AND LOSS FILM REVIEW 2
Summary
The Notebook (2004), is a deeply powerful and moving film about the undying love between a man
and woman through the telling of their story of love and loss. Duke, a resident in a nursing home reads
to a fellow resident, an old woman with Alzheimer s, the love story of Allie Hamilton and Noah
Calhoun. Viewers later learn that the woman with Alzheimer s is Allie and that Duke is Noah. Prior to
the advancement of her illness, Allie had written their love story in a notebook and told Noah to read it
to her so that she would keep coming back to him . Through the sharing of their personal experiences
of love and grief along with the experiences of other characters, viewers are able to critically reflect
on their own life experiences of love and loss and the different ways in which these experiences have
allowed change, growth, and transition in one s life.
Losses/Types of Losses Presented
One of the major types of losses presented in the film, The Notebook (2004) is that of ambiguous loss.
According to Harris (2011), ambiguous loss occurs in the circumstance of relationships and the
absence or presence of an aspect of that

Long Walk History
For as long as I could remember, I ve always wanted to learn more about my people, where we came
from, and how we are all still here today. I grew up listening to stories about my ancestors. So, as I m
typing this paper I will also be learning more about my people. One of the most tragic events that s
happen in Navajo history is The Long Walk. This tragic event changed the lives of many Navajo s.
The Navajo Long Walk, also known as the Fearing Time, began in January 1864. Over 10,000
Navajos and 400 Mescalero Apaches were taken. General James Henry Carleton ordered Christopher
Kit Carson and the U.S. Army to force the Navajos to abandon their homelands and move to Bosque

Over the past three months Winona Lake has experienced some roadblocks with completion of the
Greenway Project. Craig Allebach the town coordinator is responsible for procuring grants, and
managing everything on behalf of the town. The Greenway trail starts at a traffic light and goes out to
South town. They plan to cross a creak and install a boardwalk. Next, it will wind around, and cross at
Muirfield. Then it will wind around the baseball and the soccer field. Finally, it will go right by trail
house and terminate at Beta Hall. The target completion date for the Greenway project is in 2016 due
to seating and landscaping. Once we started the project we got all the trees cleared, then they started
trying to build the actual path, says Allebach. There was bad soils and the soil are in certain parts of

Journal: Redesign of service modes for remanufactured products and its financial benefits
Original Authors: Qinghua Zhu, HelongLi, Senlin Zhao, Venus Lun.
Publisher: International journal of production Economics.

Introduction:
Remanufacturing has now a days become very popular from auto motives, electronics to IT because it
makes production economical and environmentally attractive. But it s not fully accepted by customers
because of quality and aftersales concern. Two new service modes (extended warranty and free
replacement service) are developed to address this problem. Using mathematical models, financial
benefits are evaluated to see whether these modes make significant difference or not.
The survey of Sinotruk Jinan Fuqiang Power Co., Ltd. (JFP) customers using remanufactured heavy
truck engines is carried out with information if and how two newly designed service modes can
provide financial gains over traditional service modes. This company is well known for selling more
than 50% of the total remanufactured truck engines all across China
Benefit evaluation by 5 steps:
1. Demand and profit function is used to determine benefit of the services. The first step includes
calculating warranty, replacement length and price which changes according to real life situation.
Same can be calculated for remanufacturing products.
2. The survey is conducted to find out how many customers are

Satire In The Office

his world was molded by television and movies, which rely heavily on stock characters that reinforce
stereotypes. He was doomed from the start. Leading to his first downfall, racism. The word racism has
such a malicious connotation (rightfully so) (Devito 98), and none of the remarks made by Michael
are meant malevolently. He does nonetheless, use racist language (Devito 107). It should be pointed

Historical Accuracy in Films Essay
Historically accurate movies that are also captivating have an immense burden to meet. To capture the
essence of the time through a personal story that captivates movie executives who regularly make
movies with Steven Seagall and Bruce Willis seems an almost insurmountable task. But difficulties in
sales aside, there are two crucial elements for movies about history to be the most effective they can
be. These elements are historical accuracy in a personal story, and a sense of hope. br br Historical
accuracy does not mean trying to encompass everything that happened in a particular time period.

Most scholars believe Nathanael is to be identified as Bartholomew If he is Nathanael, he was from

The Things They Carried, And Big Fish And The American Dream
Patrick Rothfuss, an American writer, once said, It s like everyone tells a story about themselves
inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves
out of that story. Rothfuss explains how storytelling is always a part of everyone. Stories are told in
different ways, and those stories shape the person tremendously. Many of the stories told today are
what shape the audience. In The Things they Carried , by Tim O Brien, and the film Big Fish , directed
by Tim Burton, stories are portrayed to be productive because the characters all have an American
Dream and their stories help the characters achieve tasks to get to their American Dream.
According to Why Americans are Obsessed with Telling their Stories , by Ozy Qi Wang, American
parents regard parent child bonding as the No.1 priority of personal storytelling: They encourage
children to share their stories, pay great attention to and are sympathetic with children s thoughts and
feelings, and create opportunities to re experience the past with children. Americans think it is key to
keep their children s dreams alive, they encourage them at a young age to express how they feel and
what they dream of for their future. Kids grow up used to the idea of sharing their stories and create
more meaningful connections with everyone they encounter. In Big Fish, Edward Bloom told his son
stories growing up to show him that anything is possible. Throughout the film, Ed Bloom got his

Ansel Adams photographer and artist
Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In England,
William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on paper. This
medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art today.
Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the artists eye,
it can only be manipulated with light and angles.
The photograph is a very powerful medium. The French painter Paul Delaroche exclaimed upon
seeing an early photograph from now on, painting is dead! (Sayre, 2000). Many critics did not take
photography seriously as a legitimate art form until the 20th century. With the ... Show more content

Corruption In The Chocolate War
Benjamin Franklin once stated that rebellion to tyrants is obedience to god (Straub).
This ideal has been a staple of American life since the Revolutionary War. In fact, American authors
often write novels about Katnisses or Trises fighting and even superseding corrupt governments and
tyrants (Collins; Roth). However, these stories are often exaggerated and romanticized, yielding an
inspirational, yet overdone plotline. Realistic writer Robert Cormier challenges this common theme by
writing The Chocolate War, a story in which the protagonist isn t necessarily a good guy and likewise
does not win . In his novel The Chocolate War, Robert Cormier uses the cruelty of some characters

Jerry, despite his relative decency, is victimized by the power structure of the school as well as his
peers (Bagnall). Choosing to disturb the universe means that Jerry himself is thrown into chaos
(Junko). His refusal to conform makes him the prime target of both the Vigils and the school officials,
despite admiration from his peers. Cormier makes it clear that moral individuals can not survive
unaided in a corrupt, oppressive system (Harris et al.). Jerry, while standing up for what he believes is
right, is constantly torn down and abused by Archie s goons. No one, not even his best friend Goober,
came to his rescue to combat his oppressors. Arguably, the reason Jerry was not saved was because he
stood alone (Harris et al.). Jerry stood alone in refusing to take the chocolates, his abuse by the Vigils,
and his eventual physical and mental destruction by Janza. In fact, his destruction makes him into a
martyr. His surrender in the end makes him an even more realistic hero and shows that it takes more
people to fight powerful figures (Peck). Cormier challenges the perception of the modern Superman
figure and replaces him with an Average Joe : a jack of all trades but master at none. Despite his
defeat, Jerry s legacy will live beyond him, whether publicly celebrated or privately discussed by
Trinity students (Siegler). Jerry s battle could have been won if his peers acted against the power

High School Orchestra Research Paper
Many don t realize that an orchestra is a team, a team is defined by Merriam Webster as a group of
people who work together. However, being apart of a team is much more important than that, it is a
group of people you rely on, that push you to do better. Being apart of a group can requires you to do
the same for others: be there for them, push them to be better. Orchestra is very similar to a sports
team, in that there is no real star of the show. Because, if one person messes up then they affect
everyone. When everyone works hard and plays well together it can be a great experience, but when
people don t try and lower the talent level of the group, it can be very frustrating. Because of this, the
orchestra dynamic can be very discouraging to be a part of. In a high school orchestra you will see

Federal Involvement In Public Education
The word education is absent from the U.S. Constitution. Based on this fact, how is Federal
involvement in public education justified?
Our country was founded on the basis of having religious and political freedom. The colonists did not
want to have a controlling central power of government. Therefore, our country was founded under
the federal system where power was divided between the federal, state, and local governing bodies.
The 10th Amendment to the Constitution gave the responsibility of providing public education to the
individual states and the people because education was not one of the powers delegated by the
Constitution. The Federal Government did not have the authority to control or run the public
educational system. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The name of the piece was something else, but she called it Solitude. When she heard it there came
before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was
naked. His attitude was one of hopeless resignation as he looked toward a distant bird winging its
flight away from him. (47)
All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. A bird with a broken wing
was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling disabled down, down to the water...when she
was there beside the sea, absolutely alone, she cast the unpleasant, pricking garments from her, and for
the first time in her life she stood naked in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal
lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects
hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken
to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this
passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for
Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this
admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in
many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly
resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This
passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the
novel.
The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight
and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The
figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s]
down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna

Is Iraq holistically a better nation after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein?
IRAQ DURING SADDAM S REIGN (1989)
SOCIALLY, following the war with Iran in 1988, Iraq was ranked 50 in the 1990 UNDP Human
Development Index, which measures national success in education, GDP, and health. Iraq was nearing
the top of the middle range of countries in regard to the implementation of basic social services and
infrastructure. However, under Saddam s rule, the prosecution of Shiites and Kuwaitis was a normal
occurrence. Called by some a genocide, the period of murder, terror, and persecution faced by these
groups was the foundation for a long lasting unrest within the hearts and minds of Iraqi citizens. The
rest of the Iraqi citizens, however, lived normal, comfortable lives. In the late 20th century, many
traveled from afar to utilize and learn from Iraq s intricate network of hospitals and social centers
regarded as the best in the region. (CIA 2) However, constant war drained Iraq s wealth and decimated
its people. In the Iraq Iran War, Saddam Hussein unwillingly forced Iraq into a disastrous attempt to
overthrow the Islamist government in Iran. When the dust settled, over 200,000 Iraqis were dead, and
more than twice this number were wounded. Iraq s increasing debt, nearing about 75 Billion, soon had

Mrs. Gruwell goes to Mrs. Campbell, the department chair, to ask if she could use the school s book

Anne Frank. Mrs. Gruwell asks if she can borrow Romeo and Juliet, because it is a gang story that

Mrs. Gruwell practices the Third Dimension, which is equity pedagogy (Banks, 1999, p. 2). She has

were able to discover a commonality of cultures among them. Another example of equity pedagogy in
the scene is the use of alternative assessment method. Mrs. Gruwell uses journal as the alternative

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines autism as a developmental disability

Although, Asperger s syndrome is believed to be the mildest form of autism on the spectrum it still has
its challenges.
Asperger s can have an impact on a child physically, cognitively, socially and psychologically.
Although, there are minor physiological impacts on the person with Asperger s they are still present.
They include lack of eye contact, facial expressions, body posture and a physical awkwardness or
clumsiness (Calero 2015). They also may have difficulty with fine and or gross motor skills. In
regards to the cognitive impact, there hasn t been much research done, but according to Marcus L.
Thomeer s research study, he found there is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or
in the development of age appropriate self help skills, adaptive behavior (other than in social
interaction), and curiosity about the environment in childhood (Thomeer, 2012). Most children with
AS have average or above average intelligence.
The area where people with AS have the most difficulty is in their social surroundings. Socially, it can
be very difficult to make and maintain friendships due to their lack of social interaction skills, and
inability to reciprocate social skills. Positive social relationships exert a strong influence on people s

Elephant Bird Evolution
In the article, Ancient DNA Reveals Elephant Birds and Kiwi are Sister Taxa and Clarifies Ratite Bird
Evolution , the researchers discuss the relatedness of the certain ratites. Ratites are flightless birds that
includes the two birds in focus, the elephant bird and the kiwi. The kiwi is a small bird that is about a
foot and a half tall, while the elephant bird can be 6 10 feet tall. Topics they discuss about the
relatedness of these two species ranges from previous theories, the dispersion of their common
ancestor, and the evolution.
For a period of time, species of similar characteristics and location were considered to be related
taxonomically. This manner of classification was used on both, the kiwi and the elephant bird. Older

It is suspected that this study has not been conducted for the fact that there is a great distance between
the two taxa and the elephant bird was one of the largest birds while the kiwi is extremely small
compared to it. The discovery that these two taxa are related provides evidence that similar types of
species evolving together does not make them the closest relatives. The next thought was that
allopatric speciation cause the two birds to be separated by such a distance. This was disproven, or at
least considered less likely, due to the fact that Madagascar and New Zealand were not connected to
each other they were linked by other land masses. Another key point in disproving this is that the
molecular biology states that the two taxa branched off after the land masses were separated. It is
thought that the common ancestor between the kiwi and the elephant bird was able to fly. The ability
to fly would allow this common ancestor to spread great distances, which could explain the
distribution of kiwis and the elephant birds. It can also be inferred that the other ratites had an ancestor
that was flight capable, which shows how the other ratites were possibly distributed around the world.
This also shows that since they were

The Mammy is a stereotypical black motherly figure that has cast African American actors as either
slaves or domestic help in the film industry since its inception. For example in the classic 1939 film
Gone with the Wind adapted from Margaret Mitchell s 1936 novel set during the American Civil war
in 1861, the character named Mammy is played by African American actress Hattie McDaniel. In this
role Mammy is portrayed as an overweight, elderly, black servant. She is beyond the years of
childbearing but who is devoted to the white O Hara family she is assigned to nurture. In the book she
is described as, a huge old woman with the small, shrewd eyes of an elephant. She was shining black,
pure African, devoted to her last drop of blood to the O Haras... (Mitchell, 1936) . Since this depiction
a Mammy has become an archetypal figure that began with slavery but continued to be depicted by
white Americans as classic domesticated help. Like McDaniel s character these women are most often
characterised as portly with large breasts (Gray, 2004) devoid of any sexual identity. In The Help the
appearance of the African American maids, particularly the main character, Aibileen, is reminiscent of
the Mammy figure. Aibileen is not portrayed as overweight as Hattie McDaniel s character, but she is
noticeably larger than all of the white characters in the film. Aibileen also has very dark skin which
separates her from her white counterparts. In the novel Aibileen compares

Gun Laws And Gun Control
Body 1: England passed a law banning all handguns in 1997 following a school shooting(Malcolm).
However, in 2002, handgun crime has more than doubled by nearly thirty five percent since
then(Malcolm). There are two flaws in the idea that England s strict gun law is responsible for its low
levels of crime. First, violence and armed crime was low before gun controls were implemented.
Secondly, the long decline in the interpersonal violence ended in 1953, and violent crime has been
escalating ever since then, despite increasingly strict gun regulations(Malcolm). The first serious gun
control was imposed in 1920 not because of fear of crime, but rather due to fear of
revolution(Malcolm). In the beginning of World War I, the government faced massive labor
disruption, feared a Bolshevik revolution, and worried about the return of thousands of soldiers
brutalized by an especially ferocious war. The new act required a prospective gun owner to obtain a
certificate from the local police, who were responsible for determining whether the applicant was in
good standing for possession of a firearm. Parliament was assured that the sole intention of the law
was to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and other dangerous persons.(Malcolm) Despite
the fact that laws were implemented to remove guns from citizens, crime still increased, and most of
the citizens had no way to defend themselves when held at range from a deadly combatant. Gun

Essay on Arctic and Alpine Soils
Arctic and Alpine Soils
Proposal
(Ant)arctic (high latitude) and alpine (mountain) areas are affected by relatively similar climates, as
latitude and altitude produce similar meteorologic effects. In these geographic regions where
temperature is at such a pronounced extreme, climate would seem to be the leading factor of soil
development. It is my goal in this research paper to answer the following question: How do the soils
of arctic and alpine areas differ? This idea, taken largely from an abstract by Birkeland (1975), will be
explored through the comparison of the soils of these two geographic regions, and an analysis of the
soil development factors in those environments.
Introduction
Both high latitude and high altitude ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However inaccurate as Dokuchaev s generalization may be, a critique of his proposal provides an
excellent tool to examine and compare the soils of similar Arctic and Alpine regions.
Similarity in Arctic and Alpine Geographic Regions
There are pedologic cases in which one of the five soil forming factors established by Jenny (192?) is
so prominent and effectual that it outweighs the sum of all of the other factors, resulting in the
definition of different soil series almost wholly upon differences in that dominant soil forming factor.
For example, in the Carleton Arboretum, our Soils class found that the differences in soil series were
defined mostly on the basis of parent material. Most groups had a direct correlation between the
distribution of soil types and the distribution of parent materials.
In the case of Arctic and Alpine* soils, it is climate which largely outweighs all of the other soil
forming factors. As previously stated, the intense cold associated with high latitudes and high altitudes
separates Arctic and Alpine areas from other geographic regions of Earth. I believe that upon this basis
Dokuchaev made his analog between horizontal and vertical zonality of soils. Through an examination
of a number of Arctic and Alpine soils and the pedogeneses of such soils, I aim to expand and adjust
his hypothesis, as I feel he did not understand fully the complexity of Alpine

Naked Preferences And The Constitution
Because the Constitution i s rooted in civil republicanism, its clauses must reflect accompanying
notions of civic virtue . In Naked Preferences and the Constitution, Professor Cass R. Sunstein
identifies a unifying theme across the various clauses of the Constitution: the prohibition of the
distribution of resources or opportunities to one group rather than another solely on the ground that
those favored have exercised the raw political power to obtain what they want. Sunstein calls this type
of prohibited evil a naked preference. When naked preferences are prohibited, any government action
must be justified by reference to some legitimate public value. Ensuring that government action avoids
naked preferences and upholds recognized public values is how the courts prevent the danger of
factional tyranny. When a group is treated differently than another solely because of a raw exercise of
political power, a naked preference is at work. Self interested groups are thus prohibited from seeking
to obtain wealth or opportunities at the expense of other groups or individuals solely by this raw
exercise. A legitimate public value may be any justification for government that goes beyond the
exercise of raw political power. One of the key considerations is what sort of alleged public values the
courts will accept as legitimate. At this juncture, courts have a few options; the test for smoking out
naked preferences may be weak, strong, or, perhaps,

Mental Health Care In Prison
The number of aging people in the prison system has and will continue to have a major impact on
health care. Not only while they are in jail but once they are released the cost of health care for these
individuals is still a burden. While incarcerated many illnesses go untreated. Usually there are a
couple different factors in this situation, one is mental health and the other is unmet psychosocial
needs. Many people that are employed by the prison system don t have the proper training to know
how to test for the vast mental illnesses that need to be tested for. Then on the other hand if they have
the training they are understaffed and don t have time to get to everyone that needs the help. While
there has been many studies on how to improve health care while in prison, there is still a lot of
research that needs to be done to get a better handle on the financial aspect. ... Show more content on

Criminal Justice Health Care, older prisoners is at the root of a healthcare crisis. ( I just used the title
and the sentence that is marked 1). While many of the older inmates are putting a major stress on the
criminal health care system, it is not only effecting them but the public health care as well. It is hard
for those who are released back into the public to get on the insurance that they require. A parolee can
wait months to get some kind of insurance, in the months that are spent waiting they often go to the
emergency room. They often cannot pay the fees that come along with going to the emergency room,
because it is harder for them to get employment. They are not as likely to be employed based on their
age and prison

Antisocial Personality Disorder Essays
Antisocial Personality Disorder
They are your neighbors. They are your friends. Maybe they are even your family. You talk with them
often, and have even had them over for dinner on occasion. Perhaps your children play in the same
playground or spend time in the same social group. Although you have noticed some quirks and
idiosyncrasies, you would never know the difference, and you would never expect the worst. After
something bad happens that draws your attention to them, you have been forced to accept the truth:
someone you know has Antisocial Personality Disorder.
Antisocial Personality Disorder is a personality disorder recognized within the American Psychiatric
Association s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. This disorder is ... Show more content on

They are ended whenever necessary or when it suits them, and the relationships are without depth or
meaning, including marriages (Wood). Psychopaths have an innate ability to seek out and discover
weaknesses in people, and make it a personal goal to target those weaknesses. They tend to carry a
very low level of anxiety, and are rarely stressed. They are unlikely to hold a job for any length of
time, as they begin to question the ways of their employers and they become uninterested in the tasks
assigned to them. Their impulsivity keeps them from planning long term, which results in a high
occurrence of debt fault (Wood.)
While there have been no outwardly successful treatments for Antisocial Personality Disorder, many
of the disorders individuals never seek treatment alone, as they see no reason to conform to the rules
of society with which they find no satisfaction. Instead, the individual will be prompted by his family
or friends, or will be forced by a court system to seek treatment, and then will usually comply, and
will consent to treatment. Much of the recent treatment for Antisocial Personality Disorder has been
behavioral, and has not been based around biological or medicinal findings.
One type of therapy used is psychotherapy, which should focus on helping the individual understand
the nature and consequences of his disorder so he can be helped to control his behavior (Black, 2000).
Another type of therapy used is cognitive therapy,

Unit 1 Supplemental Reading ENIAC W
Supplemental Reading Worksheet #1 The ENIAC Story By Martin H. Weik, 1961 (web article) Steve
Wozniak Gnomedex Presentation (.mp3 audio) The ENIAC Story is a historical account of the
creation of the world s first electronic digital computer. The intent of this reading is to provide some
historical context to understanding today s information systems. There are so many interesting stories
and events that we could read about but where it all began is probably as good as any place to get
started. Some of us are old enough to remember when the first Personal Computers appeared in the
mid 1970s, I bought my first computer in 1980 for $309 (I still have it and can t bring myself to throw
it out despite my wife s nagging). It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The full audio presentation is offered in two parts (Part I, and Part II). You are only required to listen
to part I. Part II is also available at the itconversations web site. You can download the audio as an
.mp3 file or simply stream the audio by clicking on the play button. Relax and enjoy the presentation.
(47 minutes) If you have never downloaded or streamed an .mp3 audio file, taking the time to learn
how to download and listen to audio files is well worth your effort. If you have difficulty getting this
to work you can post a question on the Help discussion board. You should have no difficulty
downloading an .mp3 audio file even if you are tied to a dial up Internet connection. If you do not
have audio capabilities on your home computer, you can email you instructor about campus resources
where you can access audio capable computers. http://www.itconversations.com/shows/detail214.html

Risk Factors Affecting Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
M.C was admitted to Providence hospital in Waco on September 11, 2015 to undergo coronary artery
bypass graft surgery. He has a previous medical history of coronary artery disease (CAD),
hypertension, MI, and hyperlipidemia. All of these diseases put M.C at an increased risk for acute
CAD leading to occluded vessels that supply the heart with adequate blood flow and oxygenation.
Nonmodifiable risk factors associated with coronary artery disease include age, gender, family history,
and ethnic background. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated serum lipid levels,
limited physical activity, stress, and hypertension (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). M.C s family history
of CAD, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia are leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely
obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary arteries
are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in stable angina
or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest discomfort in
response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries ruptures the
body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an inflammatory
response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn narrows the blood
vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery has plaque accumulation
of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow blocked through occlusion of the
artery determines the disease process.
M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. Hyperglycemia can cause increased
inflammation of the blood vessel walls damaging the endothelial lining of the vessel. Hyperglycemia
is another major cause for concern because it creates additional plaque buildup causing occlusion and
further complications.
With recurrent plaque build up on the arteriolar walls and vasoconstriction M.C developed and was
diagnosed with hypertension. Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure at or above 140 mm
Hg and or a

When she heard it there came before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was naked. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the novel. The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s] down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna ... It is suspected that this study has not been conducted for the fact that there is a great distance between the two taxa and the elephant bird was one of the largest birds while the kiwi is extremely small compared to it. The discovery that these two taxa are related provides evidence that similar types of species evolving together does not make them the closest relatives. The next thought was that allopatric speciation cause the two birds to be separated by such a distance. This was disproven, or at least considered less likely, due to the fact that Madagascar and New Zealand were not connected to each other they were linked by other land masses. Another key point in disproving this is that the molecular biology states that the two taxa branched off after the land masses were separated. It is thought that the common ancestor between the kiwi and the elephant bird was able to fly. The ability to fly would allow this common ancestor to spread great distances, which could explain the distribution of kiwis and the elephant birds. It can also be inferred that the other ratites had an ancestor that was flight capable, which shows how the other ratites were possibly distributed around the world. • 33. Gun Laws And Gun Control Body 1: England passed a law banning all handguns in 1997 following a school shooting(Malcolm). However, in 2002, handgun crime has more than doubled by nearly thirty five percent since then(Malcolm). There are two flaws in the idea that England s strict gun law is responsible for its low levels of crime. First, violence and armed crime was low before gun controls were implemented. Secondly, the long decline in the interpersonal violence ended in 1953, and violent crime has been escalating ever since then, despite increasingly strict gun regulations(Malcolm). The first serious gun control was imposed in 1920 not because of fear of crime, but rather due to fear of revolution(Malcolm). In the beginning of World War I, the government faced massive labor disruption, feared a Bolshevik revolution, and worried about the return of thousands of soldiers brutalized by an especially ferocious war. The new act required a prospective gun owner to obtain a certificate from the local police, who were responsible for determining whether the applicant was in good standing for possession of a firearm. Parliament was assured that the sole intention of the law was to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and other dangerous persons.(Malcolm) Despite the fact that laws were implemented to remove guns from citizens, crime still increased, and most of the citizens had no way to defend themselves when held at range from a deadly combatant. In these geographic regions where temperature is at such a pronounced extreme, climate would seem to be the leading factor of soil development. It is my goal in this research paper to answer the following question: How do the soils of arctic and alpine areas differ? However inaccurate as Dokuchaev s generalization may be, a critique of his proposal provides an excellent tool to examine and compare the soils of similar Arctic and Alpine regions. Similarity in Arctic and Alpine Geographic Regions There are pedologic cases in which one of the five soil forming factors established by Jenny (192?) is so prominent and effectual that it outweighs the sum of all of the other factors, resulting in the definition of different soil series almost wholly upon differences in that dominant soil forming factor. For example, in the Carleton Arboretum, our Soils class found that the differences in soil series were defined mostly on the basis of parent material. Most groups had a direct correlation between the distribution of soil types and the distribution of parent materials. In the case of Arctic and Alpine* soils, it is climate which largely outweighs all of the other soil forming factors. As previously stated, the intense cold associated with high latitudes and high altitudes separates Arctic and Alpine areas from other geographic regions of Earth. I believe that upon this basis Dokuchaev made his analog between horizontal and vertical zonality of soils. • 42. Naked Preferences And The Constitution Because the Constitution i s rooted in civil republicanism, its clauses must reflect accompanying notions of civic virtue . In Naked Preferences and the Constitution, Professor Cass R. Sunstein identifies a unifying theme across the various clauses of the Constitution: the prohibition of the distribution of resources or opportunities to one group rather than another solely on the ground that those favored have exercised the raw political power to obtain what they want. Sunstein calls this type of prohibited evil a naked preference. When naked preferences are prohibited, any government action must be justified by reference to some legitimate public value. Ensuring that government action avoids naked preferences and upholds recognized public values is how the courts prevent the danger of factional tyranny. When a group is treated differently than another solely because of a raw exercise of political power, a naked preference is at work. Self interested groups are thus prohibited from seeking to obtain wealth or opportunities at the expense of other groups or individuals solely by this raw exercise. A legitimate public value may be any justification for government that goes beyond the exercise of raw political power. One of the key considerations is what sort of alleged public values the courts will accept as legitimate. After something bad happens that draws your attention to them, you have been forced to accept the truth: someone you know has Antisocial Personality Disorder. Antisocial Personality Disorder is a personality disorder recognized within the American Psychiatric Association s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. This disorder is ... Psychopaths have an innate ability to seek out and discover weaknesses in people, and make it a personal goal to target those weaknesses. They tend to carry a very low level of anxiety, and are rarely stressed. They are unlikely to hold a job for any length of time, as they begin to question the ways of their employers and they become uninterested in the tasks assigned to them. Their impulsivity keeps them from planning long term, which results in a high occurrence of debt fault (Wood.) While there have been no outwardly successful treatments for Antisocial Personality Disorder, many of the disorders individuals never seek treatment alone, as they see no reason to conform to the rules of society with which they find no satisfaction. Instead, the individual will be prompted by his family or friends, or will be forced by a court system to seek treatment, and then will usually comply, and will consent to treatment. Much of the recent treatment for Antisocial Personality Disorder has been behavioral, and has not been based around biological or medicinal findings. One type of therapy used is psychotherapy, which should focus on helping the individual understand the nature and consequences of his disorder so he can be helped to control his behavior (Black, 2000). Another type of therapy used is cognitive therapy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Risk Factors Affecting Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery M.C was admitted to Providence hospital in Waco on September 11, 2015 to undergo coronary artery bypass graft surgery. He has a previous medical history of coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, MI, and hyperlipidemia. All of these diseases put M.C at an increased risk for acute CAD leading to occluded vessels that supply the heart with adequate blood flow and oxygenation. Nonmodifiable risk factors associated with coronary artery disease include age, gender, family history, and ethnic background. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated serum lipid levels, limited physical activity, stress, and hypertension (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). M.C s family history of CAD, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia are leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary arteries are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in stable angina or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest discomfort in response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries ruptures the body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an inflammatory response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn narrows the blood vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery has plaque accumulation of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow blocked through occlusion of the artery determines the disease process. M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. Hyperglycemia can cause increased inflammation of the blood vessel walls damaging the endothelial lining of the vessel. Hyperglycemia is another major cause for concern because it creates additional plaque buildup causing occlusion and further complications. With recurrent plaque build up on the arteriolar walls and vasoconstriction M.C developed and was diagnosed with hypertension. Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure at or above 140 mm Hg and or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
