Bsw Culture
At Baylor Scott White Health (BSWH) at All Saints, we celebrated diversity week in June of this year.
The CafĂŠ featured a meal from a different culture each day. Then, in the main atrium, a culture map
was hung with push pins available to mark the country of a person s heritage. Later, an employee
could choose to complete a puzzle related to diversity in health care. The completed puzzle could be
turned in to Human Resources (HR), and the employee would be entered in a drawing for a prize.
Another activity for the employees was Bingo. The card had quotes and trivia about diversity and
were handed to employees to complete. Once the card was finished, the card was turned into HR. At
that time, the employee was entered a drawing. Briefly, these activities demonstrate how BSWH at All
Saints is actively educating the staff and others in the different cultures surrounding our hospital. In
essence, the exercises focus on the positive aspects of the different cultural groups. This was a fun and
enjoyment way of learning about the cultural and traditions of different groups of people. The atrium
was filled with excitement and interaction with people. Incidentally, hospital administration was
present during the festivities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cultural destructiveness is at the lowest end or negative end of the cultural competence
continuum. Whereas cultural proficiency is at the top end or positive end of the cultural competence
continuum (Rose, 2013). The diversity week at BSWH focused attention to each culture and is moving
towards achieving the cultural proficiency. According to Castillo Guo (2011), a culturally competent
organization addresses the needs of diverse patients through its commitment with staff training that
enhance cultural

International Bank For Reconstruction And Development
The World Bank was originally established in 1944 by 28 countries as the International Bank for
Reconstruction and Development with the aim of assisting and financing public development projects.
In 2015 the World Bank Group is an umbrella organization of five parts with 187 member countries.
While the Bank remains the largest such institution in operation, there are now so many other similar
institutions that there are four subcategories to describe them: Multilateral Development Banks (used
to describe the World Bank), Multilateral Financial Institutions, Sub Regional Banks, and Aid
Coordination Groups. Partners (World Bank, 2016) The World Bank provides governments, based

A main part of this project is the construction of the Kandadji Dam on the Niger River, which will
require the involuntary displacement of people living in the dam s footprint. Dam construction has
been delayed but investment in the area and services for the local population are already shrinking,
making it harder for the local affected population to maintain their standard of living. But as dam
construction has not yet started many residents are not entitled to any assistance or relocation. This
reveals the early stages of two problem areas, lack of understanding of the second and third order
effects projects will have on the local area and lack of follow through on the World Bank s own policy
standards about minimizing the harm for people affected by the projects it supports.

African Ferican Vs African Americans
We fought for our rights to become one as an individual, to have freedom and liberty as the next race.
We ve been ridiculed because of the color of our skin and disrespected by the rude derogatory names.
We fought for the right to be labeled and called an African American instead of nigger, Negro, and
color people, amongst other things. It was thought to be a respectable term but is now raising feuds
amongst African Americans who have different tones of black and brown on their skin. An African
American has totally different morals and cultural beliefs than an African who was born and raised in
the countries of Africa. They have a different way of living, a different government and law, and
different struggles. A shared complexion does not equal a shared culture, nor does it automatically
lead to friendships, says Kofi Glover, a native of Ghana and a political science professor at the
University of South Florida. Whether we like it or not, Africans and African Americans have two
different and very distinct cultures. (TRACIE REDDICK) African Americans aren t always accepting
to their own people when they come from a different country to America. Sometimes they make fun of
them because they re not the same, or a little darker skin complexion, their accent, and also the way
they dress and carry themselves. You can never just put any person of a certain race into a category
because you never know the history of their people. Some people are mixed in

Flathead Fish Case Study
The weather was just perfect for the 29 anglers who signed up and took to the Colorado River, in
search of the heaviest channel and flathead fish, at the10th West Coast Area Flatsmaster Tournament
held in Ripley.
Setting sail in small and medium sized boats into the aqua colored water, the men and women
competed for monetary prizes, in hopes of receiving a good catch on last Saturday.
As a series of competitive fishing around Southern California, people came from the San Diego, La
Quinta and the Victorville area to participate, along with residents from Blythe and Ripley.
Said to be equally good in the Colorado River, the two categories for competing was Channel and
Flathead fish.
With the moon full in the sky, anglers prowled the water, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second place went to Dalton Churchwell for his catch of a 27.3 pounder and standing in 3rd place was
Darren Mallett and his 20.14 flathead.
In the same manner, 1st place went to Nefrali Cano for receiving the weight of 9.6 for his
caughtchannel fish; placing 2nd was Max Garcia s fish, weighing in at 8.13 and 3rd place was
awarded to Tyrus Chornwick, collecting 6.11 pounds.
[As you can see,] we had several anglers rewarded with some pretty respectable size flathead catfish
for any tournament, Cunningham said.
According to Cunningham s log book, the largest catch of the year was a 40.9 pounder in Imperial
Valley and a 39 pounder flathead caught on last year.
Since this is a five part series fishing competition, Cunningham said the next leg of the tournament
will be the Canal Expedition, hosted in Imperial County in September, but everyone will come back in
October for the Grand Championship at Max s Bait Shop in Palo Verde.
At the last event in October, we will crown the flathead king and the channel king, Cunningham said.
The same people will come out again and compete at our season finale. Each qualifier weighted
amount for their biggest catch will be totaled and added to whatever they catch at this

Ramification of Effective Campaigning
The dumb ways to die epitomizes the ramifications of effective campaigning. The advertising
campaign made by Metro trains was given voice by the advertising organization McCann, to strike
emotional responsiveness around train safety in Melbourne. An array of facets incorporated by the
marketing team have propelled the campaign to immense esteem and crucial acclaim thus it has
reaped viral eminence. The campaign s principle was not designed to generate brand awareness, but
instead it answers as a public service announcement campaign to promote rail safety Steering away
from the trite and safe formulas, McCann taps into the right emotions for their audience in a profound
way. By revamping the customary safety message, it alters any preconceived ideas of safety
subsequently striking public interest. This little viral juggernaut capitalizes on the role of various
marketing strategies such as the power of positivity, communication channels, emotional appeal and
humour whilst educating its audience on railway safety. These intrinsic characteristics make dumb
ways to die a propeller for social change and educates its audience on effective campaigning. By
enlisting upon the creation of a music video that integrated humor, impertinence and utilized an
appealing tune; intended to arouse sharing, the Dumb Ways to Die campaign has harvested global
success. Dumb ways to die has become the most shared public service campaign in history. The

The Healthcare Industry And The Roles Ict Plays As Well As...
Abstract: In the Last Decade advancements in information and communication Technologies (ICT)
has provided solutions to the problems in health care managements system ICTs. It has the possibility
to massively contribute to improving access and quality of services while containing costs. Improving
health involves improving public health and medical programs designed to provide elective,
emergency, and long term clinical care; educating people; improving nutrition and hygiene; and
providing more sanitary living conditions. However, there is a low implementation rate for Health ICT
systems. This Paper will examine information management in the healthcare industry and the roles

It also has the potential to lead to better cost efficiency in the health sector. ICT can play a critical role
in improving health care for individuals and communities. It can also transform informal regulation by
providing people with the knowledge they require to challenge existing practices and make more
rational health care choices (Adeboyejo and Olatokun, 2009). Patients are empowered to take more
responsibility for their health and quality of life through the use of health ICT. Health ICT allows the
collaboration and involvement of patients and healthcare providers in the prevention and treatment of
common illnesses. Through the development of databases and other applications, health ICT provides
new and more efficient ways of accessing, communicating, and storing information. Hence, it ensures
top quality healthcare services for patients. Evidence Based Medicine: The role of Health ICT within
the Health Sector Adopting and implementing a health ICT system is a major organizational
commitment that may possibly last health care providers for several years. In order to take full
advantage of such systems, providers are required to redesign the way they practice medicine
(Congressional Budget Office, 2008). Health ICT is offering the health care sector a fresh domain
known as evidence based medicine (EBM). EBM marks a shift within the health care sector from a
traditional practice which emphasis on clinical authoritative opinions, to an emphasis on data

A Research Study On Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is using molecular biology methods to modify the genetic information of an
organism. Its aims include learning about the biology of an organism and generating new or improved
commercial products. Plant biotechnology is manipulating plants specifically to improve agricultural
needs. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are organisms modified by genetic engineering to
express desirable traits. DNA fragments containing said desirable traits and a means of introducing the
DNA to the host plants is required for genetic engineering. Some common methods of introducing
DNA fragments to plants include the use of viruses, chemicals, some means of physical insertion, or
the use of agrobacterium.
Mysore et al aimed to study the mechanism of Agrobacterium transformation, DNA transfer, and the
possible limits of genetic engineering. A complementation test of rat5 mutant and Histone H2A
(RAT5) showed rat5 mutant is responsible for the mutant phenotype. Transient and stable β
glucuronidase expression and T DNA levels of wild type and rat5 Arabidopsis plants showed that the
rat5 mutant is deficient in T DNA integration. The researchers also thought rat5 could be
haploinsufficient and to test this hypothesis they transformed wild type plants with A. tumefaciens
GV3101(pE1553) and found the rat5 mutant does not show dominance in WT plants.1 So, two copies
of RAT5 gene are necessary to conduct Agrobacterium mediated transformation. This paper examines

How Did The Radical Republican s Rise For The Failure Of...
The investigation will explore the question: How did the Radical Republican s rise to power contribute
to the failure of the post civil war reconstruction? The time between 1863, when Lincoln passed the
ten percent act, until the year 1877, when reconstruction was officially ended, will be evaluated with
information provided by the sources. The investigation will specifically look to how the Lincoln
assassination allowed for the rise in the Radical Republican Party from 1866 to 1868 and the party s
effect on reconstruction acts leading to the failure of the post civil war reconstruction era.
Eric Foner s novel Reconstruction: America s Unfinished Revolution is largely accepted to be one of
the most complete works regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel primarily utilizes a traditional view point. The author views reconstruction in a negative
light and as a time when power hungry Radicals used their political power to punish the south, in
contrast to the president s attempts to revive, instead of change, the South.
Foner s book provided significant information for this investigation. It provides substantial evidence
of how the Radical Republicans gained power and their actions thereafter. The novel, with its
traditional view of reconstruction, only allowed for a one sided look of the years 1863 1877, focusing
mainly on the Republican views and the Radical Reconstruction. This somewhat limits the extent the
novel could be used in evaluating the research question in this investigation.
John Hope Franklin s Reconstruction After the Civil War: Second Edition also assisted in the
evaluation of the research question. Franklin earned his master s in 1936 and his doctorate in history
in 1941 from Harvard University. In 1995, Franklin was awarded the highest civilian honor by earning
the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Franklin s educational background qualifies him as a reliable
source to reference for this investigation of American history.
John Hope Franklin s work is celebrated as an accurate account of prior slaves roles during this era of
American history. In this edition Franklin updates his original version with new information and
records that came to light after his completion

The Importance Of Growth In Human Growth
Human growth relies on both genetics and environment to reach an optimal fitness that is
advantageous for productive reproduction. Growth refers to increase in physical size that is
measurable. Stature is one kind of growth that is complex to understand as both human variation as
well as secular trends can affect stature. Secular trends are shifts within a measurable time period that
can affect humans. For example, past the industrial revolution, humans began to increase in size and
also experienced earlier maturation. Specifically, in the article by Pes et al., A secular trend in body
height, namely its progressive increase over more than a century has also be documented in the
Sardinian population, (Pes et al., 5). The measureable amount of time is not the only note for change,
as several factors can influence growth that include: genetics, economic status, culture, ecology,
nutrition, disease, as well as stress. A few of these factors are discussed in Pes s article.
The subject of nutrition was a factor of body height increase, since the increase in height was,
...caused by the increase in limb length rather than trunk length, which strengthens further the
suggested influence of environmental and/or nutritional factors, (Pes et al., 5). The article further
explains that short legs are an indication of poor prepubertal nutrition (Pes et al., 5). Another secular
trend that was noted in the article was the effect of disease on Sardinian stature. The stature of

Florida Fish Problems
The influence of the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulfstream in Southwest Florida Waters make the
temperature just right for literally hundreds of different kinds of fish. In 2011, Florida s recreational
anglers caught roughly 121 million marine fish, 74 million of which were released. These statistics
support the notion that fishing may be one of the most loved hobbies. Since fishing efforts have been
drastically increasing over the years, dozens of species are threatened with extinction and many more
are experiencing serious population declines. In order to ensure that a fish s populations will remain
sustainable for future generations, anglers need regulations that will sustain the existence of a fish
population.
In 1999, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, or FWC, was funded in order to
manage and regulate Florida s fish and wildlife resources. Their mission was To manage fish ... Show

The Collier County Health Department has confirmed that all of these pollutants are present in Naples
Bay, some to an alarming degree. Each year, volunteers pick up several tons of general trash from the

dangerous levels of Mercury, a bad actor in the heavy metals category. Pollution is a silent killer,
because it takes expensive sampling and measurement to determine its presence, after the fact. For
those people that eat fish (probably 99% of us), the risks of illness are very real. Even if a fish was

polluted environment. Our clam industry left southwest Florida a long time ago. These bivalves are

Analysis Of The Movie Last Year
Last year, the Hollywood film Noah was released. Obviously I was intrigued, so I called up my Pastor
and some friends and planned to go to the cinema to see it. As many sources claimed, I can agree that
this is certainly one of the least Biblical, Biblical films ever made. Of course the actual story of Noah
in the bible is not very long, so it was to be expected that the producers would add some filler
Hollywood action, but how much of Noah is actually based on the text that appears in the Old
Testament, and how much is fantastical movie magic? Just like the Old Testament, the film starts at
the very beginning. Noah tells his children the story of creation and almost stays true to the Genesis
story of creation. To begin I will explore the characters presented in the film and the original story.
The movie introduces two groups of people, Lemech and Noah the good guys and Tubal Cain and his
people, the evil men, who are of course descendants of Cain, which is consistent with the Old
Testament. Later, the character Methuselah is introduced, Noah s grandfather. He lives on the top of a
mountain and for some reason has a constant craving for berries (The Bible says nothing about this
strange detail). He also seems to posses some mystical powers. Methuselah isn t mentioned much in
the Bible, but he is the oldest documented person mentioned in the book. Lemech, Noah s father, is
only brought up in the Bible for genealogy purposes. The movie on the other hand shows that

Impact of Divorce on Adolescents Essay
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2011 there were 2,118,000
marriages in the United States and almost half as many divorces (2013). The CDC also reports that
only half of all first marriages will reach their twentieth anniversary. Divorce is a topic everyone is
familiar with and it has almost become a normal part of life. While it is assumed that more divorces
occur now than in the previous generation, the CDC actually reports that divorce rates have dropped
over the past twenty to thirty years, though this could be due to the increase in individuals who live
together without ever getting married or those who simply separate and cannot afford to become
legally divorced. However, it has become a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if one of the individuals in the marriage is resisting the divorce, or situations are complex,
such as children being involved, then divorces can take a long time to finalize and can become
extremely messy affairs. The constant arguing, disagreements, snide comments and hateful words that
occur during this time frame, which most likely started before the topic of divorce was even brought
up, can take a toll on not just the two individuals whose marriage is ending, but everyone else who is
involved, no matter how little their involvement is. Adolescence is defined as the period of transition
between childhood and adulthood that involves biological, cognitive, and socioemotional changes
(Santrock, 2012, p. 16). This time period can be very stressful in itself with all the changes that are
going on physically, socially and emotionally. Not only is an individual experiencing physical changes
as they enter puberty but his or her social roles are also changing and that can be difficult to adjust to.
It can be hard enough for a person to discover who he or she is and to become their own person during
this time of transition, but that is made even more difficult when the individual s home life is thrown
into chaos and he or she experiences the turmoil of divorce. Experiencing a parental divorce or
separation during adolescence can have long term effects not only on the teenager s

Horses of the Wild West and the World Essay
Domestication of the horse took place 5 6,000 years ago, near the end of the Neolithic period. It is
almost certain that it first took place in Eurasia, through the nomadic Aryan tribes, around the Black
and Caspian Seas. It is from this point in the history of the world that the existence of truly wild horses
begins to decline; their place taken by domestic stock. Horses are located all over the world,
depending on their location and the traits they poses; they have all since been given specific breeds.
The closest living relative to the horses of today is the Asiatic Wild Horses. These horses are better
known as the przewalskii horses, which were discovered by Nicolai Mikhailovitch Przewalskii in
1879. Within 10 years of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

when the FFWS fenced off its government built pools in an effort to preserve the wild fowl habitat the
ponies were greatly affected. The fencing of the pools confined the ponies to a small low lying marshy

Biochemistry Competence 208.5.1: DNA,RNA
Nicole Seegmiller Mott
Western Governors University
Abstract
This a brief written report on the role of DNA, RNA and transmission on information within a cell to
create amino acids.
Biochemistry Competence 208.5.1: DNA,RNA
DNA replication is an intricate process that requires many different proteins. Each protein preforms a
very specific function in the creation of a new DNA strand. First helicase works by unwinding or
dividing the original double helix into single stands. The point where the DNA is separated by the
helicase is known as the replication fork. Single strand binding proteins attach to the newly made
single strand of DNA to prevent re annealing. Next is the addition of an RNA ... Show more content

First adenosine monophosphate (AMP), a covalent enzyme, must be formed and linked to a lysine
enzyme. Next AMP will transfer to the 5 phosphate end of the missing section between the Okazaki
fragments. Last OH will help remove the AMP sealing the phosphate backbone together producing a
continuous DNA strand ( DNA Ligase, n.d.). A visual representation of ligase joining two Okazaki
fragments can be viewed in Figure 2.
Transcription is the formation of an RNA strand from a DNA template within the nucleus of a cell.
There are four nucleotides of DNA. These are adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. These
nucleotides are transcribed to form messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) consisting of nucleotides
made of adenine, cytosine, guanine and uracil. This transcription from DNA to mRNA happens by an
RNA polymerase II. This newly created mRNA is read in the 5 to 3 direction in sets of 3. These sets
are called codons. Each mRNA also has a cap and end. On the 5 prime side is a methylated guanine
triphosphate and on the 3 prime is a poly A tail. Messenger RNA then moves to the cells cytoplasm
and through the cells ribosomes for translation. Messenger RNA is matched to molecules of transfer
RNA (tRNA) in the ribosomes to create amino acids. These amino acids subsequently form an amino
acid chain. (Osuri, 2003) A visual representation of this can been viewed in figure 3.
As was just learned, RNA polymerase II is what transcribes DNA.

Density Lab Conclusions
Results and Conclusions: Density measures the mass of substance per unit of volume. Density of
solids is measured in grams/cM3. Density of liquids is measured in grams/mL. Density of gases is
measured in grams/Liter. Specific Gravity is when the density of many substances are compared are
compared to the density of water which is 1 gram/cM3. If a substance has a density less than 1
gram/cM3, it will float but if the density is greater than
1 gram/cM3, it will sink.
In procedure A, samples 1 4 all had densities that were less than 1g/cM3. However, sample 5 had a
density greater than 1g/cM3. Samples 1 4 would all float while sample 5 would sink.
In procedure B, the mass of the pebble must be found before determining the volume because when
put in water, the rocks absorb some of the water. This is called porous and it can affect the weight
which will affect the density. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data was recorded immediately so it would not be forgotten. Several samples were repeated in the
procedure to compare to each other. The mass of the samples were found and recorded to later find the

In procedure B, the mass was found first so the weight would be as accurate as possible. Water was
placed in a graduate and the rock was carefully dropped in so the volume could be calculated and
immediately recorded. The density was calculated to compare the pebbles with different datas to each
other to determine which ones would float and which ones would sink.

emptied into a larger graduate to determine the volume of water in the flask. The volumes were

Value Proposition
The value proposition for golf courses is:
Offer the GolfLogix system as a differentiating value added feature to your customers over your
competitors
Improve the pace of play on the course so more players can play within the same amount of time
Join the exclusive band of GolfLogix enabled courses
Product
GolfLogix will offer courses both the Distance Only and Complete System. This would make these
courses more attractive to a wide range of golfers from novices to pros. The Complete System with
kiosk and printer is however not feasible on an individual basis. The advantages of owning a personal
xCaddie include being able to play any course, even if the course doesna€?t own xCaddies. However,
this can only be achieved if every course is mapped. Whenever a golfer plays an unmapped course
where she cannot use her xCaddie, the overall value of the xCaddie decreases. The cost of different
customer service/value levels are shown in Exhibit 3. The more value GolfLogix provides for the
customer, the more we can charge for it. In the future, the functionality of the xCaddie could be
extended to being able to upload and download mappings and course specific tips from the Internet to
make it a complete golfing companion.

Other Men Are Thorn
Mahadeviyakka was the first women to leave her husband, this act was unheard of at this time and
held the consequence of banishment or even death. During this time, women were treated like
property instead of human beings, while men held all the power. Marriage was a deal made by two
men trading value for value. Whether it be property, crops, money, etc these deals were made prior to
a marriage for the sole purpose of a business agreement. The poems of these 13th century times are

talks about shining bright, the brightness Rihanna is telling women to overcome the darkness that
shadows over and to shine bright to come out of it. The darkness is relative to men, and women who
shine bright are independent strong forces that are done being a piece of property. In the song she also
says were beautiful like diamonds in the sky meaning all women are beautiful, just as beautiful as an
expensive and most sought after gems. Mahadeviyakka believed she was better than just a sex slave,
and she also believed she was beautiful. By leaving her husband she showed power, then on top of that
she decided to walk around naked to display her beauty and lack of care for rules. Both the poem and
song are about women becoming empowered, and stepping over boundaries that were once
unachievable. In the poem Mahadeviyakka realizes her anger and frustration towards men but does not
reason with why she categorizes all men as thorns. Her

How Did Texas Fight In The Civil War Dbq
Civil War DBQ The Civil War, a battle between the North and the South. Texans fought in it for the
south. They seceded and had became one of the south states. But, why did Texans fight in the Civil
War? They fought because of states rights, their love of Texas, and slavery. One reason Texans fought
was because of states rights. In document C it says that states have rights to secede or stay in a nation,
such as the Union. This shows that Texas had the right to secede from the Union and Texans wanted to
stay out of it. Northern and Southern states were completely opposite and Texas didn t want to be a
part of a nation with the Northern states. Another reason Texans fought in the Civil War was because
of their love for Texas. In document

Communication is the one key element of life that sets human beings apart from the rest of the animal
kingdom. The human ability to communicate at a very refined standard has enabled us to build
civilizations and to develop advanced technologies. Technology has undoubtedly advanced throughout
the years and with particular groundbreaking inventions such as the Internet, smartphones and tablets
our ability to effectively communicate in a formal and detailed manner has deteriorated. The means of
communicating across the globe is now easily achieved with the touch of a button or the click of a

the rapid growth of technology. The traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could probably be ascribed to the pervasiveness of SMS text lingo among the students. However,
following the wide publication of reports dating back to 2002 on the use of text language in school
assignment, some sections of the public became concerned about the decline in the quality of written
communication.
Another issue that has surfaced due to technological communication is that some people do not have
the same access to online communication tools, such as the Internet, as others might, thus creating a
digital divide . Digital divide refers to the difference in communication technology skills within
groups of people. (John Wiley Sons Australia, 2008) The digital divide is not a clear single gap, which
separates a society into two groups. Researchers report that drawbacks can take such forms as lower
performance computers and difficulty of obtaining technical assistance. There also is a significant
problem with the presented languages on the Internet, thus triggering a communication barrier for
certain countries. The Internet mainly comprises of websites written in English, furthermore leaving
people out of touch with society, friends and family on the Internet and information for a large
percentage of the population. Even if the communication technologies are bringing nations together it
is evidently leaving some communities out, causing a sense of segregation.

Islands Of Meaning Eviatar Zerubavel Analysis
Introduction The informational article Islands of Meaning written by Eviatar Zerubavel is an
incredibly insightful tool that has allowed others to better understand concepts of schemas,
accommodation, and assimilation. The article illustrates how we mentally categorize things by
segmenting and applying meaning to the world around us. This enables us to form ideas and opinions
that aid in the development of society along with our own image of self. Our boundaries can be
dependent upon our cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds influencing what is defined as normal or
acceptable. In this critical analysis, I will initially recount in a short summary Zerubavel s main
concepts on synopsis, socialization, and language. I will also examine and review the article from a
critical standpoint and give personal opinions on the concepts for in this article. Summary Zerubavel
describes the process in which we categorize and separate our experiences of objects, acts and being
into separate islands of meaning which alter our perceptions of our environment and interactions to
ensure their meaningfulness. This essentially means we lump together what we perceive as similar as
well as acknowledging distinct separations. Cognitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By socialization we learn society s classification schemes, they teach us how to perceive reality in a
socially appropriate way. The process of being socialized involves knowing which features are salient
for differentiating items from one another and which ones are irrelevant. Zerubavel recognizes that the
categories do not come prepackaged, but instead through the process of ignoring similarities and
exaggerating differences we lump together things we consider similar. These categories are indefinite

materials but also in different parts of their unit plan. Mr. M s class was just beginning their unit plan

The Scarlett Letter. Both classrooms had different, specific learning goals, activities, and assessments.
Mr. M s lesson was meant to introduce students to the novel The Catcher in the Rye and get them to

also helps them discover more about themselves as a person and understand their place in the world . I

Galileo Dbq
DBQ: Was Galileo really a heretic?
Claim: Galileo was not really a heretic because he may have been trying to expand and interpretation
of the Bible, and he most likely did not directly ever say that the Bible was wrong.
It is plausible that Galileo may have been trying to expand, or change the way that the church had
interpreted the Bible. A main point in this was that in his letter, he never outright said that the church
was wrong, or that the Bible was wrong. He did, however, constantly imply that there was something
wrong with the ideas. As a devoted Catholic who was high ranking, an influential power, and having
political connection in the Catholic Church, it would have been unimaginable that Galileo would say
the the Bible was wrong. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important thing to remember is that is the 16th and 17th centuries, there was no separation
between State and the Church. Most/all rules in the State had to do something with the Bible and how
it had been interpreted, and it anyone had opposed the ideas of the Bible, they would not only get
punished by the church, but also by the State. This made it laborious to try to prove an idea with
science, just as Galileo was trying to do. Not even the smallest accusation about the church was taken
lightly, As you know, the Council [of Trent] prohibits interpreting the Scriptures contrary to the
common agreement of the holy Fathers. (Document B). At this point Galileo had only just started his
discoveries, and sharing them with the public and church. Even though Galileo never explicitly
vocalized that the scriptures were wrong, just by throwing the idea out that the Earth revolved around
the Sun, caused disagreement from the Church and State. The timing that Galileo started to speak
about his discoveries and thoughts about the universe was not the best. He started to say his ideas only
a little after Bruno. Galileo supported Bruno s idea on how the universe worked. This was probably
not the best idea for Galileo, considering that Bruno had been burned to death in 1600, for the popular
belief that he was going against the Bible. The main difference between

The Tragedy Of Antigone And Aristotle s Description Of A...
The tragedy of Antigone is an amazing story of the tragedy that Thebes experienced. At the end of the
story one is still left wondering who is the hero and who is the villain. This question has been asked
since the story was ever told. After reading the story I am going to explain why Creon best suits the
role of hero according to Aristotle s description of a classic hero. Aristotle wrote six characteristics of
a classic hero and I am going to use them to explain why Creon is the hero. The first thing that must
be covered before one can decide who is the hero of story is the six characteristics of a classic hero. 1.
The first trait that describes a classic hero is a character that holds a high position throughout the play.
This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is part of the noble family that has ruled Thebes for a while. Due to this Creon fits the guide well
so far. Next Creon could be considered to be gifted with greatness, but is nowhere near perfect. Creon
was not born to be in power, but after taking up rule he shows a strong rule that looks to be promising.
A classic hero must have a downfall caused by them and this is checked off by Creon. When Creon
forbids the burial of Polyneices; he goes against the law of the gods and later pays for through the loss
of his son and wife. He was turned upon by the people and his son, because they saw that it was unfit
for him to not allow the other brother to be buried and sentence Antigone to death. Following down
the list Creon fits the next characteristic. The loss the Creon experiences is quite harsh and was not
really necessary at any point in the story. Through this loss though he gains wisdom as the play ends.
Creon found the wisdom that he desired. He learned that his pride was his down fall and it kept him
from being great. Now I will show why Antigone just doesn t add up to being the Hero. Unlike Creon,
Antigone has no highly regarded position in the story. Even though Antigone and Creon are part of the
same family Creon is the one with the noble position. Antigone also shows no natural greatness. She is
just like any other person in Thebes. Antigone dose face a downfall that she caused by only herself.
Her downfall was caused

Monogamy In American Culture
In American culture, relationships, commitment, and sex are synonymous with monogamy. However,
this is not always the case. Monogamy is defined by Merriam Webster as the state or practice of being
married to only one person at a time or of having only one sexual partner during a period of time.
Alternatively, polyamory is defined as the state or practice of having more than one open romantic
relationship at a time.
The word polyamory derives from both Greek (poly) and Latin (amory) roots and can be directly
translated to mean many loves. This is an idea of which popularity has risen a great deal in

monogamous relationships can be arranged. The tendencies to rely on deceit or lies to cover up

defining alternatives and recommendations for the strategic direction of Loblaw.
Threat of Substitute Products and Retail Outlets
Given the relatively high level of capitalization required to move into the Canadian retail grocery
market and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) also required, these two factors combined create a
formidable barrier to entry for competitors. The exceptions are the well capitalized global competitors
including Carrefour and Wal Mart. Loblaw s reliance on stores as a brand, Control Label, and
Customer Loyalty provide a unique mix of products which also alleviates potential conflicts with
lower end retailers and their regional strengths and weaknesses.
Supplier Power
For Loblaw the continual improving of electronic initiatives including the adoption of the ECCNet
standard and the development of more advanced support of demand planning, ERP integration of
supply chain planning and execution, have given the company a defendable position with suppliers.
The supplier community in retailing tends to dominate the smaller retailers, yet the converse is true

atoms tend to gain, lose, or share electrons until the shell fills up. While doing this, atoms react and

Jacques-Louis David s Influence On The Enlightenment
In 19th century France, the Neoclassical art style arose, influenced by the classical artistic style of
Greco Roman society. Around this time, France encountered many political, social and economic

influential Neoclassical artist during this time. Commissioned by both Nobles and lower class citizens
of France, he created artworks such as the Oath of the Horatii (image 1), the Death of Marat (image

Due to the time period in which David created art, some ideals of the enlightenment may have been
depicted, this, however, wasn t the main motive of David s art. The enlightenment was a radically new
synthesis of ideas about humanity, reason, nature, and God that had arisen during classical Greek and
Roman times and during the Renaissance (Stokstad 898). In Napoleon Crossing the Alps, the central
figure of the painting is Napoleon. He was a war general who gained popularity through conquest
before making himself emperor in 1804. In the painting, he is the largest and clearest figure depicted.
This painting goes against the ideas of the enlightenment such as separation of powers, where power is
split across three branches equally so that no one person would hold too much power, which was a
widely held ideal during the time (Spielvogel 28). This painting does, however, serve as propaganda to
depict Napoleon as a strong leader because he is appearing to stay still and calm on a moving horse in
order to show that even through chaos he will remain a good leader for his people. Napoleon Crossing
the Alps conveys that the purpose of David s art wasn t to depict the ideals of the enlightenment, but to

Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex
Structures and Function of the Frontal Lobe
The frontal lobe contains two key structures that have a great impact on mood, behavior and
judgment. These structures are located in the outer area of the cerebrum towards the front of the skull
(Carlson, 2013). This paper will discuss the function and structure of the Ventromedial Prefrontal
Cortex (including the orbitofrontal cortex) and the Dorsolateral Cortex.
The Function of the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex
Many studies have concluded that the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (or vmPFC) appears to provide
the inhibition of emotional responses (Carlson, 2013). This region of the brain provides the mind with
the faculties of self restraint or self control.

For example, a study conducted by the University of Iowa College of Medicine found that when this
portion of the brain is damaged, individuals were more susceptible to believing misleading

the University of Iowa found that damage to the vmPFC seems to be connected with patients who
suffer from drug or gambling additions (Bechara, 2003).
Neurotransmitters Associated with the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex
Glutamate and Gamma aminobutyric acid (or GABA) are the main neurotransmitters associated with
this part of the brain. Through the use of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) researchers have
been able to measure these particular neurotransmitters in order to predict human behavior when it
comes to value guided decision making (Jocham, Hunt, Near, Behrens, 2012).

The Lackey The lackey, the atheist, the murder, Pavel Fyodorvich Smerdyakov is a character who
Dostoevsky portrays in The Brothers Karamazov as the most deplorable and despicable man. He
exemplifies the most contemptible traits in people and is in many ways, the antithesis of a number of
the other characters. Smerdyakov embodies the lack of empathy and love, the contemptibility of false
intelligence, and the dangers of mindless atheism. Right from the beginning, it s clear that
Smerdkyakov is not a likable character. He is an utterly taciturn and unsociable young man and a

Despite his lowborn status, Smerdyakov greatly values the idea of intelligence, and enjoys appearing
as such. After Smerdyakov seemed to display an interest in books in a bookcase, he was offered a

He claims to want the truth, but he can t handle the disappointing nature of the truth. Alternatively,
when given a history book that is all about true things, Smerdyakov thought it too boring and rejected
that as well (164). Since he cannot understand humor and the emotional emotional appeal of fiction,
nor the value of the facts in non fiction works, Smerdyakov is not a true intellectual. He is the kind of
person who strives for the perceived appearance of being learned, but refuses the chance to actually
learn and gain true knowledge. To the lackey, seeming like an intellectual gives him a feeling of
superiority, which further amplifies his disdain for people he thinks are uneducated, like Gregory and
Dmitry. Smerdyakov s appreciation for intellect is reflected in his admiration of Ivan Karamazov, the

Samurai Vs Knights Essay
The Knights of Europe and the Samurai of Japan shared quite a few similarities; however, they do also
share many differences. One such similarity would be that both the Knights and the Samurais were
brave, strong, and loyal to their cause, especially due to both of their trainings starting at a very young
age. An example of a difference would be the samurais having a much lighter armor than knights. This
allowed for a more agile army. They also ascended to their titles at separate ages, with samurais being
at a mere 14 years of age, and knights being 21.
By the time of the Crusades in Medieval Europe, Knights were nothing out of the ordinary. A knight s
training began at around four or five. It involved them learning how to ride a pony. Around the age of
eight, the young trainee would be sent to be a page for a lord or a relative with influence. At this point,
they would refine their swordsmanship, improve their horse skills, and would be taught more about
their religion. At the age of 14, pages were eligible to become a squire, where they continued their
sword fighting skills. They would accompany a knight into a battle, care for him, care for his horses,
and would simply hope to be chosen to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In school, they learned of the Kendo, which is fencing with bamboo sticks, the moral code of the
samurai, and their religion, Zen Buddhism. Their code of conduct, the Bushido, demanded that a
samurai must hold his loyalty, courage, honesty, compassion, and honor. According to The Way of the
Samurai by Yamaga Soko, Within his [samurai] heart he keeps to the ways of peace, but without he
keeps his weapons ready for use. As stated before, samurais have a much lighter armor. This is mainly
due to They have an opening on their right arm in order for them to draw their bows faster and

Ethical Dilemmas In The True Story And Movie Lone Survivor
Ethical dilemmas are common occurrences in the world, especially when it comes to war. They can
create situations with very difficult decisions and unknown consequences. Due to the difficulty and
necessity for a decision during an ethical dilemma, it is important for soldiers to understand what an
ethical dilemma is, and how to proceed in making a decision during such an event. The true story and
movie Lone Survivor provides an excellent example of an ethical dilemma and the potential
consequences of each decision that could be made during the scenario. This paper will go over the
ethical dilemma, the possible solutions and consequences of such a dilemma and the choice I would
have committed to.
The Lone Survivor is a story about four Navy SEALs who were dropped off in the Hindu Kush
Mountains in order to conduct surveillance on and potentially kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban
Leader (Sherconish, 2014). Unfortunately for the SEALs they were seen and compromised by three
goat herders. The goat herders did not have any weapons on them and were quickly captured and tied
up. Also one of the goat herders was a small male child. It was suspected that the goat herders had ties
to the Taliban and would alert them given the chance. The ethical dilemma is when on such a high
profile mission and compromised by a small group of civilians, what is the most ethical decision to
make (Berg, 2013)?
The four Navy SEALs were able to come up with three possible solutions to their

Similarities Between Roark And Keating
The Fountainhead, a story of man s struggle and perseverance to succeed in a dog eat dog world.
Howard Roark and Peter Keating, two men with similar goals, to become the greatest architect yet the
two take completely different paths to achieve this goal, but who really achieved true success. The
answer is simple, Howard Roark was the only one to achieve true success in the end. The paths of
these two men were very clearly divided, Keating choose one of kissing butt and sacrificing all his
morals just to succeed while Roark chooses a path of kick butt honesty and staying true to himself.
The first example of this is in the college. The Dean of Stanton expels Roark for designing modernist
architecture and refusing to draw architecture the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Keating falls in love with Dominique Francon, daughter of the esteemed Guy Francon,
owner of the firm Keating works for. However, when Dominique meets Roark and the two fall in love,
she ignores all of all of Keating s advances; even more so when Dominique discovers Roark s true
architectural prowess. The two then became secret lovers in the bedroom despite Dominique
continually ruining Roark in public. But then, as all else goes, Roark falls on hard times again.
Another journalist, Ellsworth Toohey creates an elaborate plan to have Roark ruined. The plan was to
hire Roark to build a temple then sue him for his creation. And of course Roark loses the court case,
causing him to lose all of his money and Dominique. Meanwhile Keating is probably sitting up in a
fancy penthouse drinking fancy alcohol and continually designing meek and unoriginal pieces of
architecture. And to had a cherry on top to the already tragic sundae, Keating and Dominique wed,
leaving Roark broke, heart broken, and

Who Marcion Is Important For The Development Of Early...
Not all would call him a Christian scholar, but he was the most interesting second century Christian
and also the most detrimental to the development of early Christianity and his name was Marcion. In
this essay I will be explaining who Marcion is and why he was so important for the development of
early Christianity. To start off my research paper my first resource was by Peter Head, The Foreign
God And The Sudden Christ : Theology And Christology In Marcion s Gospel Redaction, in which he
talks about how many people back in the second century would not call Marcion a good Christian,
leader, or a reformer but was later a great influence for the New Testament. Head then briefly
introduces Marcion and who he was. Also, Peter Head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My next source by David William, Reconsidering Marcion s Gospel, addresses in his article that
Marcion was gathered from multiple different resources. Marcion s gospel was not written into the
text and was basically the same thoughts as Paul just with a few different ideas. Williams also states
his three general findings that he has as he studied Marcion thought out his life. Around 144 AD
Marcion expressed his beliefs to everyone and not just to the church. Most people at that time thought
that his beliefs were outrageous and they were frowned upon in that society. Marcion still believed
what he thought was right and created his own church. Even though he knew that giving his opinion
on religion was not a good idea during that time period he still did and got followers that believed in
what he was creating. Everyone that followed his lead and believed the same thing that he did were
called Marcionites. (Head) According to David Williams not much information on Marcion s gospel is
found. Most of the information is gathered up from references and quotes found in other literatures.
(Williams) Marcion s gospel that they have pieced together are said to look exactly like Luke s gospel.
If Marcion was asked the question himself, he would say that he was more like Paul rather than Luke.
Marcion s belief was in some ways similar to Gnostic Christian theology. Marcion was considered not
a good Christian,

The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963 By Christopher Paul...
There are some siblings that fight sometimes because of their differences, but they also have
similarities. The novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham 1963, by Christopher Paul Curtis is about a
black family called the Watsons who go on a trip from Flint, Michigan all the way to Birmingham,
Alabama to visit their relative. But they quickly learn that the rules in Birmingham are a lot different
than the ones in Flint. How this is connected is because the two siblings, Kenny and Byron sometimes
do fight a lot but then learn that while they do have differences, they also have similarities as well.
This essay will be about Byron and Kenny s similarities and differences. One of the similarities that
Byron and Kenny have are that they are both protective. Byron shows this trait when he makes up
stories to try to convince Kenny and Joey to not do something dangerous like when he makes up the
whole Wool Pooh story so Kenny and Joey won t go swimming in a dangerous lake. Kenny also
shows this trait when he tries to tell Byron not to do something bad so he won t get into trouble. One
other similarity is mischievous. Byron shows this trait when he keeps playing pranks on Kenny and
does other stuff he s not supposed to do like dying his hair red. Kenny ... Show more content on

One of these differences is that Kenny is smart and Byron is not so smart. Kenny shows this trait when
he reads to other classes higher than him even though he is in 2nd grade. Byron shows his trait when
he doesn t do as well as Kenny and he just happens to be in the same 5th grade class that Kenny was
reading to. One of the other differences is that Kenny is mature and Byron is immature. Kenny shows
that trait by not doing stuff he shouldn t be doing and doing the right thing, but Byron does stuff he
shouldn t be doing like dying his hair red and getting a conk. And he sometimes disobeys his parents
orders and talks back to them. There are some other differences that Byron and Kenny

March 1, 2013
In John Edgar Wideman s essay Our Time he explores the experiences his brother Robby went
through and circumstance that led Robby s imprisonment while he became a well recognized writer.
He considers how someone from your family, grow up the same way as you could live such a different
life. Wideman tries to work out why Robby goes to jail in his mind. He tried to understand as someone
that lives under the same roof as you can end up on a completely different direction in life. Bases on
my understanding their background was not the best they lived in a rough and poor community and
faced a lot of challenges in life. Unfortunately there comes a time in your life when you ... Show more

He stopped caring about things and just like the rest of the community they blame the white doctors
for not caring for Garth the way they should of because of him being black. Later on once Robby and
Wideman get more comfortable with eachotther , Robby explains into more detail to Wideman other
reason on why he ended up how he did. How he really felt about his childhood and why he acted the
way he did. He tells Wideman that growing up the youngest isn t always the best you become the pet
and even feel less important because everyone else knew how to do things and he didn t he was left
learning and teaching himself on his own. How he felt like he had to fight for love and attention but
everyone just thought he was being a spoiled brat. Robby starts too realized and admitted all the
wrongs he did.
That most of the ugliest things happening to black people are not accidental but predictable result of
the working plan . They let the community and society view of people take advantage of their minds
and beliefs. Robby and his community used what people had to say about them a crutch to let them
continue to live their lives like this. At the end of Robby s stories he does realize that a lot of what we
went through was because of the choices he made in life. if a person takes advantage of the benefit of
the doubt and keeps on take and taking, one day the rope plays out. The pipe must be paid . Robby

A Better Chance Ambassador Scholarship Analysis
In my esoteric journey to figure out who I am and what my purpose is, I have noticed that I am
naturally inclined to trying new things. As a young boy, I enjoyed eating exotic foods such as escargot
and sushi. Then as I grew older, I began to become interested in things such as foreign films and
foreign shows. Though I was able to experience a taste of each culture, I always had a deep desire to
undergo an exhaustive interaction with different cultures. These clues in my life have lead me to
believe that my next step is to fully immerse myself in other cultures. Instead of looking within, I must
observe the world around me in order to exhume the depths of my soul. In our current political
climate, I believe that it is even more necessary to immerse myself in the beautiful, complex cultures
of other countries so that I can become more informed about the world. The Student Diplomacy is a
wonderful chance to travel to another country and experience the traditions of its inhabitants. It is a
gateway to life changing knowledge. I would like to be a part of this ... Show more content on

  • 2. Bsw Culture At Baylor Scott White Health (BSWH) at All Saints, we celebrated diversity week in June of this year. The CafĂŠ featured a meal from a different culture each day. Then, in the main atrium, a culture map was hung with push pins available to mark the country of a person s heritage. Later, an employee could choose to complete a puzzle related to diversity in health care. The completed puzzle could be turned in to Human Resources (HR), and the employee would be entered in a drawing for a prize. Another activity for the employees was Bingo. The card had quotes and trivia about diversity and were handed to employees to complete. Once the card was finished, the card was turned into HR. At that time, the employee was entered a drawing. Briefly, these activities demonstrate how BSWH at All Saints is actively educating the staff and others in the different cultures surrounding our hospital. In essence, the exercises focus on the positive aspects of the different cultural groups. This was a fun and enjoyment way of learning about the cultural and traditions of different groups of people. Dam construction has been delayed but investment in the area and services for the local population are already shrinking, making it harder for the local affected population to maintain their standard of living. But as dam construction has not yet started many residents are not entitled to any assistance or relocation. This reveals the early stages of two problem areas, lack of understanding of the second and third order effects projects will have on the local area and lack of follow through on the World Bank s own policy standards about minimizing the harm for people affected by the projects it supports. • 5. African Ferican Vs African Americans We fought for our rights to become one as an individual, to have freedom and liberty as the next race. We ve been ridiculed because of the color of our skin and disrespected by the rude derogatory names. We fought for the right to be labeled and called an African American instead of nigger, Negro, and color people, amongst other things. It was thought to be a respectable term but is now raising feuds amongst African Americans who have different tones of black and brown on their skin. An African American has totally different morals and cultural beliefs than an African who was born and raised in the countries of Africa. They have a different way of living, a different government and law, and different struggles. A shared complexion does not equal a shared culture, nor does it automatically lead to friendships, says Kofi Glover, a native of Ghana and a political science professor at the University of South Florida. Whether we like it or not, Africans and African Americans have two different and very distinct cultures. (TRACIE REDDICK) African Americans aren t always accepting to their own people when they come from a different country to America. Sometimes they make fun of them because they re not the same, or a little darker skin complexion, their accent, and also the way they dress and carry themselves. You can never just put any person of a certain race into a category because you never know the history of their people. Some people are mixed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The advertising campaign made by Metro trains was given voice by the advertising organization McCann, to strike emotional responsiveness around train safety in Melbourne. An array of facets incorporated by the marketing team have propelled the campaign to immense esteem and crucial acclaim thus it has reaped viral eminence. The campaign s principle was not designed to generate brand awareness, but instead it answers as a public service announcement campaign to promote rail safety Steering away from the trite and safe formulas, McCann taps into the right emotions for their audience in a profound way. By revamping the customary safety message, it alters any preconceived ideas of safety subsequently striking public interest. This little viral juggernaut capitalizes on the role of various marketing strategies such as the power of positivity, communication channels, emotional appeal and humour whilst educating its audience on railway safety. These intrinsic characteristics make dumb ways to die a propeller for social change and educates its audience on effective campaigning. It also has the potential to lead to better cost efficiency in the health sector. ICT can play a critical role in improving health care for individuals and communities. It can also transform informal regulation by providing people with the knowledge they require to challenge existing practices and make more rational health care choices (Adeboyejo and Olatokun, 2009). Patients are empowered to take more responsibility for their health and quality of life through the use of health ICT. Health ICT allows the collaboration and involvement of patients and healthcare providers in the prevention and treatment of common illnesses. Through the development of databases and other applications, health ICT provides new and more efficient ways of accessing, communicating, and storing information. Hence, it ensures top quality healthcare services for patients. Evidence Based Medicine: The role of Health ICT within the Health Sector Adopting and implementing a health ICT system is a major organizational commitment that may possibly last health care providers for several years. In order to take full advantage of such systems, providers are required to redesign the way they practice medicine (Congressional Budget Office, 2008). • 9. A Research Study On Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering is using molecular biology methods to modify the genetic information of an organism. Its aims include learning about the biology of an organism and generating new or improved commercial products. Plant biotechnology is manipulating plants specifically to improve agricultural needs. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are organisms modified by genetic engineering to express desirable traits. DNA fragments containing said desirable traits and a means of introducing the DNA to the host plants is required for genetic engineering. Some common methods of introducing DNA fragments to plants include the use of viruses, chemicals, some means of physical insertion, or the use of agrobacterium. Mysore et al aimed to study the mechanism of Agrobacterium transformation, DNA transfer, and the possible limits of genetic engineering. A complementation test of rat5 mutant and Histone H2A (RAT5) showed rat5 mutant is responsible for the mutant phenotype. Transient and stable β glucuronidase expression and T DNA levels of wild type and rat5 Arabidopsis plants showed that the rat5 mutant is deficient in T DNA integration. The researchers also thought rat5 could be haploinsufficient and to test this hypothesis they transformed wild type plants with A. tumefaciens GV3101(pE1553) and found the rat5 mutant does not show dominance in WT plants.1 So, two copies of RAT5 gene are necessary to conduct Agrobacterium mediated transformation. The investigation will explore the question: How did the Radical Republican s rise to power contribute to the failure of the post civil war reconstruction? The time between 1863, when Lincoln passed the ten percent act, until the year 1877, when reconstruction was officially ended, will be evaluated with information provided by the sources. The investigation will specifically look to how the Lincoln assassination allowed for the rise in the Radical Republican Party from 1866 to 1868 and the party s effect on reconstruction acts leading to the failure of the post civil war reconstruction era. The novel primarily utilizes a traditional view point. The author views reconstruction in a negative light and as a time when power hungry Radicals used their political power to punish the south, in contrast to the president s attempts to revive, instead of change, the South. Foner s book provided significant information for this investigation. It provides substantial evidence of how the Radical Republicans gained power and their actions thereafter. The novel, with its traditional view of reconstruction, only allowed for a one sided look of the years 1863 1877, focusing mainly on the Republican views and the Radical Reconstruction. This somewhat limits the extent the novel could be used in evaluating the research question in this investigation. John Hope Franklin s Reconstruction After the Civil War: Second Edition also assisted in the evaluation of the research question. Franklin earned his master s in 1936 and his doctorate in history in 1941 from Harvard University. In 1995, Franklin was awarded the highest civilian honor by earning the Presidential Medal of Freedom. • 11. The Importance Of Growth In Human Growth Human growth relies on both genetics and environment to reach an optimal fitness that is advantageous for productive reproduction. Growth refers to increase in physical size that is measurable. Stature is one kind of growth that is complex to understand as both human variation as well as secular trends can affect stature. Secular trends are shifts within a measurable time period that can affect humans. For example, past the industrial revolution, humans began to increase in size and also experienced earlier maturation. Specifically, in the article by Pes et al., A secular trend in body height, namely its progressive increase over more than a century has also be documented in the Sardinian population, (Pes et al., 5). The measureable amount of time is not the only note for change, as several factors can influence growth that include: genetics, economic status, culture, ecology, nutrition, disease, as well as stress. A few of these factors are discussed in Pes s article. The subject of nutrition was a factor of body height increase, since the increase in height was, ...caused by the increase in limb length rather than trunk length, which strengthens further the suggested influence of environmental and/or nutritional factors, (Pes et al., 5). The article further explains that short legs are an indication of poor prepubertal nutrition (Pes et al., 5). In 2011, Florida s recreational anglers caught roughly 121 million marine fish, 74 million of which were released. These statistics support the notion that fishing may be one of the most loved hobbies. Since fishing efforts have been drastically increasing over the years, dozens of species are threatened with extinction and many more are experiencing serious population declines. In order to ensure that a fish s populations will remain sustainable for future generations, anglers need regulations that will sustain the existence of a fish population. In 1999, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, or FWC, was funded in order to manage and regulate Florida s fish and wildlife resources. Their mission was To manage fish ... • 13. Analysis Of The Movie Last Year Last year, the Hollywood film Noah was released. Obviously I was intrigued, so I called up my Pastor and some friends and planned to go to the cinema to see it. As many sources claimed, I can agree that this is certainly one of the least Biblical, Biblical films ever made. Of course the actual story of Noah in the bible is not very long, so it was to be expected that the producers would add some filler Hollywood action, but how much of Noah is actually based on the text that appears in the Old Testament, and how much is fantastical movie magic? Just like the Old Testament, the film starts at the very beginning. Noah tells his children the story of creation and almost stays true to the Genesis story of creation. To begin I will explore the characters presented in the film and the original story. The movie introduces two groups of people, Lemech and Noah the good guys and Tubal Cain and his people, the evil men, who are of course descendants of Cain, which is consistent with the Old Testament. Later, the character Methuselah is introduced, Noah s grandfather. He lives on the top of a mountain and for some reason has a constant craving for berries (The Bible says nothing about this strange detail). He also seems to posses some mystical powers. Methuselah isn t mentioned much in the Bible, but he is the oldest documented person mentioned in the book. Lemech, Noah s father, is only brought up in the Bible for genealogy purposes. The CDC also reports that only half of all first marriages will reach their twentieth anniversary. Divorce is a topic everyone is familiar with and it has almost become a normal part of life. While it is assumed that more divorces occur now than in the previous generation, the CDC actually reports that divorce rates have dropped over the past twenty to thirty years, though this could be due to the increase in individuals who live together without ever getting married or those who simply separate and cannot afford to become legally divorced. However, it has become a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if one of the individuals in the marriage is resisting the divorce, or situations are complex, such as children being involved, then divorces can take a long time to finalize and can become extremely messy affairs. The constant arguing, disagreements, snide comments and hateful words that occur during this time frame, which most likely started before the topic of divorce was even brought up, can take a toll on not just the two individuals whose marriage is ending, but everyone else who is involved, no matter how little their involvement is. Adolescence is defined as the period of transition between childhood and adulthood that involves biological, cognitive, and socioemotional changes (Santrock, 2012, p. 16). This time period can be very stressful in itself with all the changes that are going on physically, socially and emotionally. Not only is an individual experiencing physical changes as they enter puberty but his or her social roles are also changing and that can be difficult to adjust to. It can be hard enough for a person to discover who he or she is and to become their own person during this time of transition, but that is made even more difficult when the individual s home life is thrown into chaos and he or she experiences the turmoil of divorce. Task1 Essay Biochemistry Competence 208.5.1: DNA,RNA Nicole Seegmiller Mott Western Governors University Abstract This a brief written report on the role of DNA, RNA and transmission on information within a cell to create amino acids. Biochemistry Competence 208.5.1: DNA,RNA DNA replication is an intricate process that requires many different proteins. Each protein preforms a very specific function in the creation of a new DNA strand. First helicase works by unwinding or dividing the original double helix into single stands. The point where the DNA is separated by the helicase is known as the replication fork. Single strand binding proteins attach to the newly made single strand of DNA to prevent re annealing. Next AMP will transfer to the 5 phosphate end of the missing section between the Okazaki fragments. Last OH will help remove the AMP sealing the phosphate backbone together producing a continuous DNA strand ( DNA Ligase, n.d.). A visual representation of ligase joining two Okazaki fragments can be viewed in Figure 2. Transcription is the formation of an RNA strand from a DNA template within the nucleus of a cell. There are four nucleotides of DNA. These are adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. These nucleotides are transcribed to form messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) consisting of nucleotides made of adenine, cytosine, guanine and uracil. This transcription from DNA to mRNA happens by an RNA polymerase II. This newly created mRNA is read in the 5 to 3 direction in sets of 3. These sets are called codons. Each mRNA also has a cap and end. On the 5 prime side is a methylated guanine triphosphate and on the 3 prime is a poly A tail. Messenger RNA then moves to the cells cytoplasm and through the cells ribosomes for translation. Messenger RNA is matched to molecules of transfer RNA (tRNA) in the ribosomes to create amino acids. These amino acids subsequently form an amino acid chain. (Osuri, 2003) A visual representation of this can been viewed in figure 3. As was just learned, RNA polymerase II is what transcribes DNA. ... Claim: Galileo was not really a heretic because he may have been trying to expand and interpretation of the Bible, and he most likely did not directly ever say that the Bible was wrong. It is plausible that Galileo may have been trying to expand, or change the way that the church had interpreted the Bible. A main point in this was that in his letter, he never outright said that the church was wrong, or that the Bible was wrong. He did, however, constantly imply that there was something wrong with the ideas. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important thing to remember is that is the 16th and 17th centuries, there was no separation between State and the Church. Most/all rules in the State had to do something with the Bible and how it had been interpreted, and it anyone had opposed the ideas of the Bible, they would not only get punished by the church, but also by the State. This made it laborious to try to prove an idea with science, just as Galileo was trying to do. Not even the smallest accusation about the church was taken lightly, As you know, the Council [of Trent] prohibits interpreting the Scriptures contrary to the common agreement of the holy Fathers. Even though Galileo never explicitly vocalized that the scriptures were wrong, just by throwing the idea out that the Earth revolved around the Sun, caused disagreement from the Church and State. The timing that Galileo started to speak about his discoveries and thoughts about the universe was not the best. He started to say his ideas only a little after Bruno. At the end of the story one is still left wondering who is the hero and who is the villain. This question has been asked since the story was ever told. After reading the story I am going to explain why Creon best suits the role of hero according to Aristotle s description of a classic hero. Aristotle wrote six characteristics of a classic hero and I am going to use them to explain why Creon is the hero. He is part of the noble family that has ruled Thebes for a while. Due to this Creon fits the guide well so far. Next Creon could be considered to be gifted with greatness, but is nowhere near perfect. Creon was not born to be in power, but after taking up rule he shows a strong rule that looks to be promising. A classic hero must have a downfall caused by them and this is checked off by Creon. When Creon forbids the burial of Polyneices; he goes against the law of the gods and later pays for through the loss of his son and wife. He was turned upon by the people and his son, because they saw that it was unfit for him to not allow the other brother to be buried and sentence Antigone to death. Following down the list Creon fits the next characteristic. The loss the Creon experiences is quite harsh and was not really necessary at any point in the story. Through this loss though he gains wisdom as the play ends. Creon found the wisdom that he desired. He learned that his pride was his down fall and it kept him from being great. Now I will show why Antigone just doesn t add up to being the Hero. Unlike Creon, Antigone has no highly regarded position in the story. Even though Antigone and Creon are part of the same family Creon is the one with the noble position. Antigone also shows no natural greatness. She is just like any other person in Thebes. Neurotransmitters Associated with the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex Glutamate and Gamma aminobutyric acid (or GABA) are the main neurotransmitters associated with this part of the brain. Through the use of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) researchers have been able to measure these particular neurotransmitters in order to predict human behavior when it comes to value guided decision making (Jocham, Hunt, Near, Behrens, 2012). • 41. Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov The Lackey The lackey, the atheist, the murder, Pavel Fyodorvich Smerdyakov is a character who Dostoevsky portrays in The Brothers Karamazov as the most deplorable and despicable man. He exemplifies the most contemptible traits in people and is in many ways, the antithesis of a number of the other characters. Smerdyakov embodies the lack of empathy and love, the contemptibility of false intelligence, and the dangers of mindless atheism. Right from the beginning, it s clear that Smerdkyakov is not a likable character. He is an utterly taciturn and unsociable young man and a rather arrogant fellow who seemed to despise everybody (162 163).1 Devious and cunning, Smerdyakov s every utterance is either criticism or manipulation, to the chagrin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite his lowborn status, Smerdyakov greatly values the idea of intelligence, and enjoys appearing as such. After Smerdyakov seemed to display an interest in books in a bookcase, he was offered a fiction book, but he doesn t recognize the humor, and disapproves of the made up nature of the stories. He claims to want the truth, but he can t handle the disappointing nature of the truth. Alternatively, when given a history book that is all about true things, Smerdyakov thought it too boring and rejected that as well (164). Since he cannot understand humor and the emotional emotional appeal of fiction, nor the value of the facts in non fiction works, Smerdyakov is not a true intellectual. He is the kind of person who strives for the perceived appearance of being learned, but refuses the chance to actually learn and gain true knowledge. To the lackey, seeming like an intellectual gives him a feeling of superiority, which further amplifies his disdain for people he thinks are uneducated, like Gregory and Dmitry. Smerdyakov s appreciation for intellect is reflected in his admiration of Ivan Karamazov, the only character in the book that he seems to have any positive regard for. On the exterior, Ivan is a progressive thinker and an atheist, things that Smerdyakov really latches on to. Ivan s logical, progressive philosophy attracts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Samurai Vs Knights Essay The Knights of Europe and the Samurai of Japan shared quite a few similarities; however, they do also share many differences. One such similarity would be that both the Knights and the Samurais were brave, strong, and loyal to their cause, especially due to both of their trainings starting at a very young age. An example of a difference would be the samurais having a much lighter armor than knights. This allowed for a more agile army. They also ascended to their titles at separate ages, with samurais being at a mere 14 years of age, and knights being 21. By the time of the Crusades in Medieval Europe, Knights were nothing out of the ordinary. A knight s training began at around four or five. It involved them learning how to ride a pony. Around the age of eight, the young trainee would be sent to be a page for a lord or a relative with influence. At this point, they would refine their swordsmanship, improve their horse skills, and would be taught more about their religion. At the age of 14, pages were eligible to become a squire, where they continued their sword fighting skills. • 43. Ethical Dilemmas In The True Story And Movie Lone Survivor Ethical dilemmas are common occurrences in the world, especially when it comes to war. They can create situations with very difficult decisions and unknown consequences. Due to the difficulty and necessity for a decision during an ethical dilemma, it is important for soldiers to understand what an ethical dilemma is, and how to proceed in making a decision during such an event. The true story and movie Lone Survivor provides an excellent example of an ethical dilemma and the potential consequences of each decision that could be made during the scenario. This paper will go over the ethical dilemma, the possible solutions and consequences of such a dilemma and the choice I would have committed to. The Lone Survivor is a story about four Navy SEALs who were dropped off in the Hindu Kush Mountains in order to conduct surveillance on and potentially kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban Leader (Sherconish, 2014). Unfortunately for the SEALs they were seen and compromised by three goat herders. The goat herders did not have any weapons on them and were quickly captured and tied up. Also one of the goat herders was a small male child. It was suspected that the goat herders had ties to the Taliban and would alert them given the chance. The ethical dilemma is when on such a high profile mission and compromised by a small group of civilians, what is the most ethical decision to make (Berg, 2013)? Howard Roark and Peter Keating, two men with similar goals, to become the greatest architect yet the two take completely different paths to achieve this goal, but who really achieved true success. • 45. Who Marcion Is Important For The Development Of Early... Not all would call him a Christian scholar, but he was the most interesting second century Christian and also the most detrimental to the development of early Christianity and his name was Marcion. In this essay I will be explaining who Marcion is and why he was so important for the development of early Christianity. To start off my research paper my first resource was by Peter Head, The Foreign God And The Sudden Christ : Theology And Christology In Marcion s Gospel Redaction, in which he talks about how many people back in the second century would not call Marcion a good Christian, leader, or a reformer but was later a great influence for the New Testament. Head then briefly introduces Marcion and who he was. Also, Peter Head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My next source by David William, Reconsidering Marcion s Gospel, addresses in his article that Marcion was gathered from multiple different resources. Marcion s gospel was not written into the text and was basically the same thoughts as Paul just with a few different ideas. Williams also states his three general findings that he has as he studied Marcion thought out his life. Around 144 AD Marcion expressed his beliefs to everyone and not just to the church. Most people at that time thought that his beliefs were outrageous and they were frowned upon in that society. Marcion still believed what he thought was right and created his own church. Even though he knew that giving his opinion on religion was not a good idea during that time period he still did and got followers that believed in what he was creating. Everyone that followed his lead and believed the same thing that he did were called Marcionites. (Head) According to David Williams not much information on Marcion s gospel is found. Marcion was considered not a good Christian, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But they quickly learn that the rules in Birmingham are a lot different than the ones in Flint. How this is connected is because the two siblings, Kenny and Byron sometimes do fight a lot but then learn that while they do have differences, they also have similarities as well. This essay will be about Byron and Kenny s similarities and differences. One of the similarities that Byron and Kenny have are that they are both protective. Byron shows this trait when he makes up stories to try to convince Kenny and Joey to not do something dangerous like when he makes up the whole Wool Pooh story so Kenny and Joey won t go swimming in a dangerous lake. As a young boy, I enjoyed eating exotic foods such as escargot and sushi. Then as I grew older, I began to become interested in things such as foreign films and foreign shows. Though I was able to experience a taste of each culture, I always had a deep desire to undergo an exhaustive interaction with different cultures. These clues in my life have lead me to believe that my next step is to fully immerse myself in other cultures. Instead of looking within, I must observe the world around me in order to exhume the depths of my soul. In our current political climate, I believe that it is even more necessary to immerse myself in the beautiful, complex cultures of other countries so that I can become more informed about the world.
