City of the gods, temple of the sun and moon, these names sound like places out of an Indiana
Jones movie, however the idea had to come from some place. That place is the ancient city of
Teotihuacan, Mexico. Teotihuacan is found north east of Mexico City in the flat plain lands of
the Mexican valley . Named by the Aztecs who found the abandoned city, they marveled at the
massive scale of the buildings and the city itself. The only reasonable explanation the Aztecs
could provide was that gods had made the city. Little did they know that Teotihuacan was a
bustling city that was around from about 150b.c. 750a.d., and a population as high as 200,000
.Teotihuacan is massive in scale for the ancient world, dispersed over an area of approximately 20
square kilometers. This ancient place is a perfect example of a city, it has a high population, a well
thought out street system, early factories, and massive temples which towered over the land scape.
