Racial Diversity: Historical Worksheet
Answer the following questions in 100 to 250 words each. Provide citations for all the sources you
use.
Throughout most of U.S. history, in most locations, what race has been in the majority? What is the
common ancestral background of most members of this group?
The United States is a diverse country, racially and ethnically. Six races are officially recognized:
White, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian and
Other Pacific Islander, and people of two or more races; a race ... Show more content on

Whites constitute the majority, with a total of 223,553,265 or 72.4% of the population in the 2010
United States Census.
In what ways have laws been used to enforce discrimination? Provide examples. These laws were
intended against which racial minorities?
There have been numerous laws in the past that have enforced discrimination. One example are the
Jim Crow laws in the south that prevented blacks from obtaining equality in society for about 100
years. Affirmative action of the courts and prison systems which discriminates against Blacks and
Hispanics, gives them 20% longer sentences, targets their neighborhoods, racially profiles, weakens
minority neighborhoods electorally, created the culture of fatherless homes as a reaction to the Civil
Rights Movement, fills prisons with low level offenders for petty drug offenses, with illegal searches
and in some states; where those crimes have been decriminalized anyways and disproportionately
targets minority youths in instances where white youths would be dealt with informally. Which is
masked by Affirmative Action which largely benefits white women and Jews anyways. There were
also the Convict codes, which were used to put Blacks back on the

Power And Pathos Of The Hellenistic Era
Power and Pathos uses 50 absolute masterpieces to tell the story of the spectacular artistic
developments of the Hellenistic era (4th to 1st centuries B.C.), when new forms of expression began
to prevail throughout the Mediterranean basin and beyond. There was an extraordinary leap forward in
the development of techniques to form the first instance of globalization of the language of art in the
known world. Art was in effect, going international. This exhibit has gathered together some of the
most spectacular ancient bronze sculptures that still exists today. It displays monumental life sized
figures of Gods, Heroes, Athletes and rulers. Ancient cultures invented bronze. They discovered that
making an alloy of copper and tin produced a strong metal that could hold great detail and objects cast
with it can easily be reproduced. The ancient Greeks prized bronze for its visual worth and they used it
create statue of the human body. Unfortunately, because bronze is a metal that can be cast and is
expensive, it can also be melted down. Hence, large bronze statues have rarely survived from
antiquity, as most were melted down so that their valuable metal can be reused. The ones that are still
preserved today are mostly the same ones that were either lost at sea or buried underground.
This paper in particular discusses two of the statues exhibited at the Power and Pathos exhibit at The
Getty Center in Los Angeles. It analyses and compares the statuette of Alexander the Great on

Roseville Hazard Mitigation Case Study
Sudden onset of natural disasters disrupts daily life and, in the worst cases, causes devastation.
Disasters are occurring at a rate many people cannot absorb psychologically and financially.
Therefore, affecting people s decisions to move away from disaster prone areas, mainly if they were
displaced, lost their possessions, or had a traumatic experience. To help alleviate some of these effects,
FEMA has not only developed mitigation planning guides for local governments to adopt as a guide
but also serves a starting point for reducing such disasters. (Federal Emergency Management Agency,
2003). Political leaders, influential residents, fire department, police department and other participants
are involved in the planning process in identifying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All new buildings and developments undergoing major improvements must be elevated to or above
the 100 year flood level, and new developments within portions of the floodplain must not increase
flood problems or damage other properties (Schwab, 2010). Also, local officials created a detailed,
comprehensive plan that integrates mitigation planning and action framework, unlike other local
hazard mitigation plans. The essential difference amongst Roseville plans and other cities is that
Roseville has well exceeded the minimum disaster mitigation act of 2000 requirements for citizen
involvement by formulating the Roseville Hazard Mitigation Plan through a variety of robust outreach
measures. (Schwab, 2010). The local government s strong mitigation action and leadership reflected
the strong commitment and priorities to ensure they created a safer and more secure future for the

It Is Just A College Prep Class
Avid speech
First off, I d like to ask, What is AVID? For outsiders, they believe it is just a college prep class. In
some ways it is, but there is so much more to this class. Where teachers help us gain unique study
skills that bring us the ability to do better in school. They also provide a friendly environment that
helps us to gain better knowledge. They also help us build a career and set goals for our future.
They say a AVID has proven achievement and brings a lifelong Advantage. But it s not just the class it
s you. You can have your teachers and parents tell you school is important, but you have to believe in
yourself. And the teachers here understand that. They let you go and build you up to become someone
truly amazing. They don t attempt to force you there but add that last finger to help you lift up the
world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what makes Avid unique. They give us different techniques to build this Higher. One example
is what does is a study technique we use every week. It has 5 parts. The first is The essential question/
topic/objective. (what we are writing about) The third part is where we right questions on the topic.
For example, say we made a Cornell note on apples. A question you can write is What are the parts of
an apple? The first areas where you would write your answer and explain your questions and the last
section is where you summarize what you learned making that print on them. This technique helps its
layout our thoughts and organize them, for ourselves and others, to understand them

Classical Conversations
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7). This week
I attended my cousins wedding in Boston, Massachusetts, during this time I was asked many questions
along the lines of What are you going to do in college? What are you studying? Would you like some
wine? etc... At first it was really discouraging because I am only a freshman in highschool, I don t
know what I m doing, but they want you to know. After answering all those questions (yes all of them,
seriously) multiple times, I realized that i have grown and changed a lot just in this past year. Then I
remembered I had to write a paper about that. After talking with my parents about it, I categorized all
my areas of growth that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the most significant change I have seen in my life in this past year. I have to give a large
majority of the credit for this to my Youth Leader, Greg Pellegrino. He has helped me grow in Christ
in so many ways and has been a huge source of encouragement and guidance in my spiritual life.
Before this year, I did not read the word daily, and I did not think about God half as often as a do now.
I now read the bible and pray daily. I have also done many music cleanses this year, in which I go
through periods of time where I would listen to Christian music exclusively. It was very refreshing and
uplifting and it definitely made me more aware of my music and media choices and helped me make
sure I was honoring the Lord in every aspect of my life. I have never been so on fire for Jesus as I
have been recently and in this past year, and I hope my faith only

Free Will and Determinism
The problem of free will and determinism is a mystery about what human beings are able to do. The
best way to describe it is to think of the alternatives taken into consideration when someone is
deciding what to do, as being parts of various alternative features (Van Inwagen). Robert Kane argues
for a new version of libertarianism with an indeterminist element. He believes that deeper freedom is
not an illusion. Derk Pereboom takes an agnostic approach about causal determinism and sees himself
as a hard incompatibilist. I will argue against Kane and for Pereboom, because I believe that Kane
struggles to present an argument that is compatible with the latest scientific views of the world. Robert
Kane begins by explaining that there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If described from a physical perspective, free will looks like chance. However, the indeterministic
chaotic process is also, experientially, the agent s effort of will something the agent is doing. The
agent s choice is something that the agent does and not something that happens to the agent.
Therefore, the choice reflects the agent s effort, even though the outcome is not yet determined. Kane
ends his argument by saying that these reflections naturally raise further questions about whether the
indeterminism required by an incompatibilist theory of free will is actually there in the brain and that
every undetermined, self forming, free choice is the initiation of what might be called a value
experiment whose justification lies in the future and is not fully explained by past reasons. Derk
Pereboom s position is an agnostic approach about causal determinism. He contends that if causal
determinism were true, we do not have the sort of free will required for moral responsibility. As a hard
compatibilist, he believes that life without this kind of free will need not preclude a sense of meaning
based on morality, and, in some respects, it could even be support it. When arguing against
compatibilism, Pereboom first defines compatibilism as free will of the type required for moral
responsibility. He says that it is compatible with determinism and that compatibilists will say that we
do in fact have this sort of free will. He then defines a libertarianist as someone

Chinglish Essay
2.Chinglish
2.1 Scholars definitions of Chinglish
Joan Pinkham considers that Chinglish, of course, is that misshapen by hybrid language that is neither
English nor Chinese but that might be described as English with Chinese characteristics .(Joan
Pinkham, 20001)
Ge Chuangui claims that Chinglish is basically correct in the aspects of grammar and words and
understandable in the meaning, but clearly it stems from Chinese thinking patterns and English
speakers never use English in that way. (葛䌠思198023)
Deng Yanchang points out that Chinglish is speech or writing in English or writing in English that

communication and cultural exchanges. With the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and
western countries, Chinglish will increasingly wither away.
Xie Zhijun considers that there two aspects in China English: better acceptability and weak
acceptability. China English with better acceptability is closer to standard English and China English
with weak acceptability is closer to Chinglish. Chinglish can be transformed into China English. The
difference between China English and Chinglish only lies in if it is in favor of communication and
acceptable to English speakers. (è°ąäč‹ć›ïŒŒ199464)
Xie Shengliang pointed out that Both China English and Chinglish are English used among Chinese
people, but pertain to different variants of English, enjoying particular characteristics relevant to

Analysis Of The Poem I Like Him
It s a pleasure to have you here. I m sure Rick will waste no time in showing you around. The man
smiled kindly at Michonne as he dismounted his horse. Will you be joining us for supper this evening?
Rick quirked an eyebrow, his eyes filled with mirth. Will you?
I don t know. You guys probably...
Nonsense. Hershel waved her off as he handed Rick the horses reins. We will all love to have you. I
insist you stay for supper. How else would you meet the rest of the Greene family? I will see you both
at six thirty.
She and Rick exchanged a look as Hershel ambled toward the house. I like him.

Are you serious Tipsy? He shook his head. The Swiss Alps.
She threw her hands up defensively. My dad was the ambassador to Switzerland and I ve attended four

the ideals of freedom, justice, and excellence.
Over the course of one week (from June 5 through 12), unavoidable musicians and artists who actuate

Attachment, Antisocial, And Antisocial Behavior
Attachment and Antisocial Behavior in Adolescents Secure early infant attachments are imperative to
a person s life because it assists in the development of empathy and emotional self regulation. A
healthy development of empathy and emotional self regulation promotes prosocial behavior. Prosocial
behavior is the deliberate action of helping and/or benefiting another person, group, or society in
general without any thought of being rewarded. Securing an early infant attachment can develop an
automatic response of prosocial behavior which can be applied throughout an individual s life as he or
she responds to immediate situations that may occur throughout a lifetime. Anti social behavior is
developed when a person lacks the ability to help someone because he or she fails to identify with the
feelings or difficulties of someone else (Steele, Bate, Nikitiades, Buhl Nielsen, 2015). Adolescents
that display anti social behavior are more likely to develop poor peer competence, have lower
academic performance, become involved in adulthood criminality and are at a higher risk of
developing adult mental health problems. Anti social behavior in adolescents is expressed by the
inability to respect the rights of others which leads to the violation of societal social norms. Some
behavior, such as being disobedience or defiant, can be considered as normal behavior in adolescents,
however it can also be a strong predictor of adjustment difficulties adolescents may face in their

The fingerprints on the deer rifle were matched to Byron De La Beckwith who was an active and
vocal member of a white supremacist group. (Black, pg.1) Byron De La Beckwith went to trial for the
murder of Medgar Evers. The two separate trials with all white juries both ended in deadlock

information surfaced that suggested that the evidence in the two previous trials had been tampered

(Elliot Jr., pg.1) The new trial that the two had compiled ended rather quickly. The jurors took little
more than six hours to come to a decision. Judge L. Breland Hilburn then confirmed the verdict of
guilty. After the trial ended Beckwith s wife shrieked and sobbed loudly after Beckwith left the room.
Years after the trial Byron De La Beckwith died at 80 while serving life in prison.

With at least 49 deaths, the ship definitely has some strange things going on, that cannot be explained.
The deaths that happened during the ship s history, is linked with the many spirits that roam the area.
The spirits of Captain Treasure Jones, John Pedder, Jackie continue to haunt the passengers from time
to time. There were some reports that Captain Jones loved to smoke a good cigar and at times the
smell of cigar smoke can still be detected. John Pedder s scream can be heard from the door he was
killed by. Jackie likes to play in the pool areas of the ship. Jackie can be heard singing and laughing.
Sarah can also be heard singing with Jackie. Shadow people have been reported by people in all
locations of the ship and at all hours of the day and night. Many people have photographed shadow
people. There are many theories as to what shadow people are. Some believe they are possibly inter
dimensional beings slipping between our dimension and theirs. Others believe it is just another form
of ghost. Whatever they are or wherever they come from, one thing is for certain. When you see one
you won t forget it. Shadow people come in many shapes and sizes. People who have seen shadow
people say that they seem to have a strange smokey look to them. Balls of light have also been
witnessed in many areas of the ship. They are very solid in appearance, and can be seen in pitch black
just cruising along in the darkness. These can not be explained well, as there is no firm evidence about
it. Cabin B340 is the location of another vicious murder aboard the Queen Mary. There has been a lot
of paranormal activity related to this room, and so many requests by guests for new rooms. Because of
this, they have sealed off the room and removed the cabin number. They do not under any

all social statuses and taught his beliefs to those he met on his travels and his followers. By doing this,
he showed that everyone was entitled to knowledge, whether they were a Brahmin like him or an

The Importance Of Vital Signs Of Essential Signs Essay
The Importance of Vital Signs: Introduction Vital signs are common exams performed by medical
professionals that assess the essential functions of the human body. These exams are imperative in a
clinical setting as they help to determine the overall health of a patient. During a routine vital sign
examination, hospital personnel such as nurses or certified nursing assistants must evaluate the patient
s body temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure in order to obtain an adequate
assessment of the patient. Typically, radiographers are not often required to collect their patients vital
signs. However, it is crucial for a radiographer to know how to acquire a patient s vital signs in case of
an emergency situation.
The Importance of Vital Signs: Body Temperature Body temperature is a vital sign that determines the

Confucianism In Korean Government During The Period Of...
Confucianism in Korean Government During the period of Three Kingdoms, the military system in
Silla has influenced by the Confucian doctrines. The Hwarang were the military system consisted of
the young sons of aristocrats who followed a code of conduct that combined Confucian doctrines,
Daoist ethics, and Buddhist teachings. Confucian doctrines included loyalty, filial piety, and
righteousness (Connor, 2002, p.13). Yet, Confucianism in Silla was subordinate to Buddhism.
Confucian practices and study took place not mainly in its own institutions but in the Buddhist
temples which were considered as the centers of Silla culture (Yang Henderson, 1958, p.84).
Confucianism had limited influence on Korean peninsula due to Buddhism which also contributed to
shaping social life and acted as a principal force in cultural achievements. Buddhism dominated
Korean peninsula in 10th and 11th centuries in Koryo Dynasty. Hence, the Confucianism did not
spread to the entire population of Korean peninsula during the Three Kingdoms period and Koryo

gets really cold at night so could you imagine such a night to sleep in. You are in the dark and
extremely cold on top of a cornucopia and the whole night you have to listen to the screams of
someone being slowly ate by Capitol engineered mutts. Also you know that if you fall down from the
cornucopia you will die a painful death and scream just like the Cato who is slowly dying. Katniss is

Casablanca Love And War Essay
The Duality of Love and War: an Analysis of How the Love story of Casablanca is a Metaphor
America in the Second World War Michael Curtiz s Casablanca (1942) follows Rick s internal
struggle and his eventual decisive action on whether or not to help his former lover. This story, while
seemingly innocent enough on the surface, mirrors another, much darker tale; one that takes place on a
much grander scale. This is especially evident in the final sequence of the film where Rick helps
Victor and Ilsa escape on a plane to America, before he shoots and kills Major Strasser in order to
ensure their escape. When analyzed through the formal elements of film, this sequence becomes about
much more than just a man doing whatever he has to in order to ... Show more content on

Once looked at through the formal elements of film, this film becomes about more than just the
struggle of a man and his love; it becomes a beautifully crafted metaphor for one of the darkest times
the world has seen. The narrative of the film draws a near perfect parallel between Rick and his
involvement in Victor and Ilsa s struggle and America and its involvement in the Second World War.
That parallel builds upon itself as the film progresses, strengthening itself through mise en scene and
other stylistic elements until it finally comes into fruition in the final sequence. It is in the final
sequence that the metaphor truly begins to take shape, and its meaning begins to take hold. That
meaning, rooted in the narrative and supported by other stylistic elements, is that the US needs to
involve itself in the war. That America s very presence in the fight, let alone its actions, will prove to
be decisive in the outcome of a war that is dividing the world. Nowhere in the film is this statement by
the filmmakers more evident than in the final sequence. The final sequence itself is a rallying call to
the US to fight for the very beliefs it was founded on, and to join the fight to stop the advancement of

The Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On Society
Do you ever look around in our busy everyday life full of car rides, texting, internet, high speed travel,
etc. and wonder how and when we made the jump from horse drawn carriages to modern day life? The
Industrial Revolution is one of the greatest and most impactful time in our nation s history that made
all of these changes come to life and impacted not just the people who lived during the time, but even
the life we re living today. The Industrial Revolution created many new types of industries, businesses,
and products that changed the consumer culture of the time along with society as a whole. This not
only includes society from that time period but for modern day life as well. The Industrial Revolution
started in Europe and it really took off in Britain in the early 1700 s. Prior to the revolution people
lived in small rural town and most life revolved around farming or very low income jobs. Many
people made their own cloths, built their own tools, made there own furniture, and produced their own
food. The Industrial Revolution was the movent that changed this way of life and made it so the rural
lifestyle wasn t the main way of living anymore. Britain was the ideal society to start off the Industrial
Revolution because they had a politically strong economy at the time, and they sat on huge deposits of
iron and coal which was a great influence on the Revolution and its needs. Eventually this Revolution
made its way to the United States. During the time of the 19th

Political And Political Effects Of The European...
The European Revolutions of 1848 were sequences of republican rebellions against the monarchs,
which were thought of as the height of a sequence of political, economic, and social disasters. The
revolutions began in large urban areas and its results, particularly in France, Germany, and the
Austrian Empire, were a shock to Europe with the defeat of the European Revolutions and cause
general disenchantment with liberals. Though the revolutions spread to small rural parts, the relative
strengths of leaders, as well as the conflict between liberal and nationalist and the role of the working
class, all contributed to its impact. The revolutions of 1848 caused the most brutal and extensive
political movements that affected the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of European
nations, while aiming for democracy.
France was where the revolutions first started, when its people sought suffrage worldwide. After the
King discharged François Guizot, aiming to outlaw the banqueting campaign , it led to the radicals
protesting which caused violence as troops shot at the protesters. This brutality amplified the anger of
the French people. Refusing to release the protesters also just fueled the fight for reform even more,
which led to the organization of a second government after the King s resignation. In the end, the
disaster increased as the constitutional government experienced challenges. Later, the people failed to
assert a new government and eventually young workers

Prospero s Use Of Manipulation In The Tempest
Shakespeare, a renowned writer of the ages, often commented upon real world situations in his plays.
One of these such plays is The Tempest, a dramatic story entailing power struggles, slavery,
vengeance, a random island, and a lot of manipulation. The plot starts off riveting as Prospero, the
protagonist, employs one of his servants to create a storm and cause a ship to crash on his island.
Immediately following, dozens of plans are put into place with the survivors of the shipwreck that
ultimately brings every person on the island within his clutches. In the meantime, various subplots are
put into play among the various players of this dangerous (though metaphorical) game. Sailors and
servants plan to overthrow their masters, cut their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospero also enslaves Caliban, originally charming him while convincing Caliban to show them
around the island when they were first trapped there, and ultimately threatening him with his magic
after certain events take place. Every time Caliban rebelliously mutters threats to Prospero or Miranda,
he is threatened with afflictions such as terrible cramps that would plague him later in the day. For
this, be sure, tonight thou shalt have cramps, / Side stitches that shall pen thy breath up. Urchins /
Shall, forth at vast of night that they may work, / All exercise on thee. Thou shalt be pinched / As thick

The Vampire Chronicles Vs. Twilight Saga
The Vampire Chronicles vs The Twilight Saga Do you prefer The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice or
The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer? This question can lead into a huge argument due to the
opinions of who answers the question. A person can guess the answer by the age of the people. The
older generation would suggest The Vampire Chronicles because it tells the tale of the true vampires,
such as the human blood suckers that only comes out at night. While the younger generation would
suggest The Twilight Saga because it shows that vampires can be like regular people. Although there
are some major differences between The Vampire Chronicles and The Twilight Saga, the similarities
are shocking. For people who forgot or don t know about these two novels, these novels are about the
lives of vampires. The Vampire Chronicles (1976 2003) is by Anne Rice. Her novels are series that
tells the story of a French nobleman named Lestate de Lioncourt who transformed into a vampire in
the eighteenth century. The other novel series, The Twilight Saga, is by Stephenie Meyer. Her novel
series tells a story of a young ordinary female, Bella Swan, who falls in love with a vampire named
Edward Cullen. Both of these novel series has turned into the big screen including Interview with a
Vampire, Queen of the Damned, and the Twilight movie series that almost every teenage girl loves.

At Night My Lost Memory Of The Beloved Poem Analysis
Faiz Ahmed Faiz writes: At night my lost memory of you returned / I was like the dying patient who,
for no reason, smiles. Of course, the night has been the time when people become vulnerable of their
thoughts and their painful past experiences. In the mid 1900s, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, delves into these
painful nights, where he reminisces about his beloved and longs for it, usually shown in his poetry.
Consequently, Faiz Ahmed Faiz uses three literary devices in many ways to portray the true subject of
poetry, based on him, which is the loss of the beloved. Specifically, Faiz uses emotional language,
hyperbole, and allegory to illustrate the theme of the loss of the beloved. Certainly, Faiz Ahmed Faiz

This dark setting and mood work together to further emphasize the pain after losing a love one.
Moreover, he also uses abstract emotional language to create the melancholy mood, reinforcing the
theme of loss and the desire of the beloved. Faiz uses emotional language that is abstract to show
desired emotions and the search of hope. For instance, he writes during the spring nights, fill your
heart to the brim, and your eyes / too, / with longing and desire (551). The abstract emotional language
in this quote, longing and desire work together to construct the hope for his loss of the beloved. In
addition, in this quote, there is an exaggeration of being able to replete the heart with ideas, which is
not possible; because the whim comes from the mind, not the heart. Therefore, this hyperbole adds an
extra effect to amplify the duration of the longing for the loved one to further develop the theme of
loss of the beloved. Hence, while emotional language contributes to the mood to enhance the theme, it
is also the building blocks of hyperbole, an exaggeration of ideas. At the same time, Faiz utilizes
hyperbole in a variety of ways to further portray the loss of the beloved. He uses hyperbole when
describing his emotions that is not only affecting him emotionally, but physically too. Considering, he
has no courage to look at the hurtful memories again, however, a pain in

Social medias are the cooperative enterprises of online means of connection between people where
people share their ideas, thoughts as well as images. Some of the examples of social medias are social
networking medias such as Facebook, twitter, yahoo, Gmail, google plus and many more. Nowadays
different people have different way of living. They don t hesitate to speak. They share their sorrows,
their misunderstanding, their success all through social medias. Previously people used to
communicate through paper letters. Because of the advancement of science and technology people
started using electronic mailing system where they used to communicate and share their thought. But
Nowadays people are using Facebook as well as twitter for sharing their thoughts. Our president and
vice president use twitter for sharing their thought and ideas. Similarly, nowadays people are using
social medias just to show off where they post different types of information that is wrong or
information that gives double meaning where people want to say something, but people understand
different meaning. Dallas police tweeted that they have arrested famous footballer cornerback of
Denver broncos Aqib talab for public intoxication, but later on again Dallas police tweeted an apology
saying that the guy they had arrested was not Aqib talab but his younger brother. There are other

The Amateur Ethos In Late 19th Century England
The ideology of the Amateur Ethos in late 19th century England was considered among scholars as
games for games sake, personal satisfaction and not for material gain (Baker 2004). This concept was
the catalyst for segregating the amateur player from the professional tradesman, as a result of the fear
of unfair competition ultimately brought about by men who made a career out of their game (Allison
1980). This is quite different to today s amateurism concept where the significance of intrinsic
motivation has devalued due to the increased importance of extrinsic rewards (Frey Eitzen 1991). On
the other hand modern day amateurism in sport can be associated with the maintenance of good
health, preventing rates of obesity through community involvement and school youth programs
integrating non remunerated values into sporting initiatives (Pate 2006). This report ... Show more

It is agreed among scholars, that the objective of amateurism in the nineteenth century English society
was games for games sake, a pleasure of personal satisfaction and good spirit (Baker 2004). It is
apparent that the amateurs participated in the games with no extrinsic motivation, and no obligation to
play. They played for themselves, with no notion of financial gain (Baker 2004). The games were
competitive in a contained manner, and the amateur wouldn t take the outcome too seriously (Baker
2004). For many, the idea of amateurism included the principle of not seeking livelihood from the
athletic exercises, implying that the games were played for the sake of prestige and personal
contentment (Allison 2001) . The idea of amateurism in sport in nineteenth century England was also
a point of segregation against the working class professionals

that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive. B)It is primarily in
cities that a nation s cultural traditions are preserved and generated. I disagree totally with the claim
presented above by the author. The premises on which the author claims has fallacies which I am
going to discuss below. The number one reason why I disagreed with the claim is that because culture
is made of elements that are only present in small cities or towns . If we look at any nation American
or non American. we will find that cultural traditions and customs take origin in small cities, towns or
rural areas and not in big cities. The warmth of rural areas, small cities, towns gives birth to folk lore,

The couple is very famous and collectively worth $300,000,000. On December 3, 2015, the couple
decided to sell the first photos of their newborn baby for $15,000,000 to a national magazine. Katie
and William plan to donate all of the proceeds to the American Red Cross. They wish to complete this
transaction as soon as possible because the paparazzi has been harassing the family. In 2015, the
couple will have a combined adjusted gross income of $8,000,000, without any proceeds from baby
pictures, and will file jointly. Katie and William are expected to be in a similar taxable income
situation in future years and tax rates are not expected to change. ISSUE What are the tax implications
if the couple sells the photos for $15,000,000 and then claim a charitable contribution deduction on
their 2015 joint tax return? Are there any planning strategies to reduce the tax impact of the
transaction? CONCLUSION Katie and William would first have to recognize the $15,000,000

La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette
La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most earlier
works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of Cazamian,
a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and study both her role
in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give the reader an idea of the
plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many witty double meanings and
underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce.

In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of the
drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and
Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be
more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to
completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I
and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear.
So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike
them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom
the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one
of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. Such
a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see it as a reflection of
their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who plays this role, and it is in this way that she is
most important. At no point does she address the audience

Flight Of Icarus Risks
Do you think risks are worth the rewards? Some people might think risks are worth the rewards, but I
don t. The two myths Arachne and Flight of Icarus are examples showing that risks are not worth the
rewards.
To start off, Arachne is a good example to show why risks are not worth the rewards. Arachne wanted
to go against Athena because arachne thought she was the best we ve ever. So then they went against
each other and athena said in lines 80 90 if you win the weaving contest you will get much pride and
respect. But if you lose you will have to face a punishment that will never be unbroken. Yet Arachne
still went up for the risks and then lost and now she has to face the consequences put up to her. Athena
permanently turned arachne into a spider and now athena will never be changed back into a human

Daedalus held onto his son s shoulders. He made the wings out of feathers and wax. Daedalus told his

What Role Does Adversity Play In Shaping A Person s Character
A person s character is shaped by many aspects of their life including the people they associate
themselves with, their cultural and familial background, and experiences they have been through.
Some of these experiences may have been positive and others might have not been so pleasant such as
having to endure financial or political hardship. The Roman poet Horace once asserted that adversity
brings out the good aspects of a person or talents while if they were doing great and were prosperous,
those talents would not have come out. From this quotation, it is evident that experiencing hardship
does good for a person and plays a role in shaping their character by motivating them and providing
hope but may also put you down. Adversity is a factor

Ralph Waldo Emerson And The Transcendentalism Movement
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Author Ralph Waldo Emerson, who is considered one of the Great American authors, wrote during the
transcendentalism period. Particularly, his work titled Self Reliance written in 1841 we can see the
evidence of the characteristics, themes and style identified with the transcendentalism movement
which was an extant in American letters between 1820 s and 1830 s. As a representative of such a
movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson then remains one of the most identifiable and iconic writers of his
time.
Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer and poet who led the transcendentalist
movement of the mid 19th century. He was born in May 25, 1803, in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of

For example, A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and
philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. Here Emerson
expresses that greater minds are not bothered at the thought of thinking differently and following their
own beliefs ant any giving time. He motivates his readers to be non consistent, and to not blinded and
foolished by the words of others who are viewed as superior. Another example would be: Trust
thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron sting. Accept the place the divine providence has found for
you; the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events. In this phrase Emerson states that
we should always follow our instincts first, because our heart beats to the truth and only we know the
truth. He motivates us to never doubt in ourselves, and never doubt in what we re doing or where we
re at, because God put us in that place or situation for a reason. If you analyze it, accept it, and you
push further you will realize that what you re doing and where you re at is where exactly you need to
be.
In this way, we can clearly see why Ralph Waldo Emerson is considered the Father of
Transcendentalism and one of the greatest writers during the transcendentalist

African American And The Caribbean

Caribbean people view race differently than African Americans. Caribbean immigrants who arrive to
the United States are often shell shocked by the tangible presence of racism there. What is all the more
surprising is that some of these tensions are more so perpetuated by African Americans. Before an
immigrant can experience the American dream , a life of joys and hardship, they are adequately
discouraged, or warned to reconsider moving to America. They are warned that success will most
certainly be harder for them. Warned that things are different here and that the color of your skin has,

What sets African Americans and Islanders apart is indeed their history, which is why we are so
different. I would like to start at the beginning on what first shaped these two groups. Many can trace
of the groups heritage of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade back to Africa or other countries such as India,
Asian (indentured servants); however Caribbean people have mainly held onto that heritage, mostly
for cultural aspects of ancestry rather for racial heritage. And many islands still practice this culture
today. It is seen in the way we speak (a fusion of African language with other languages, creole,

Story Of An Hour Irony
Kate Chopin is an American author who composed The Story of an Hour in 1894. The story depicts a

receiving the news of her husband s death. After having time to cope and reflect to herself while in her
room, ironically, Mrs Mallard was pleased with her husband s sudden departure. Furthermore, she
eventually died of heart disease after realizing her husband was in fact alive. Chopin s incorporation of
literary elements such as foreshadowing and irony fostered my engagement in the story and my

Also, There was something coming to her and she was waiting for it, fearfully (202) foreshadows her

which is ironic because after all the false accusations of Louise s husband s death, she ended up dying
instead. I perceived this story to be quite interesting because I could not understand how Louise could
be content with her husband s death if she truly loved him.
From my perspective, I do not perceive Louise s love for her husband to be genuine. What could love,
the unsolved mystery, count for in the face of this possession of self assertion which she suddenly
recognized as the strongest impulse of her being (202) serves as evidence that Louise did not cherish
her memories with her husband, but yearned for and valued her independence. Considering, this story

Canadians. In Canada, and across the world, there are institutions that help care for people with these
diagnoses. Nurses are one of the members of the health care team, and they help to try and reduce
risks that can exist in aging Canadians. The purpose of this paper is to explore the risks of malnutrition
in aging Canadians living in institutions who have vascular dementia. Malnutrition and vascular
dementia are serious conditions that do not develop overnight, therefore there are signs and symptoms
to recognize this risk before it escalates. The signs of dementia including forgetfulness, confusion and
difficulty with everyday tasks (McGinley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A nurse in an institution could use Bevis when implementing the interventions, for example in the first
intervention, helping the resident identify cutlery, show them how to use it, this demonstrates
teaching. (McMahon, 2009). The second intervention is changing the colour of the plates, this uses
problem solving because when the resident is getting distracted then the implementation of colours
can draw attention to the food. (McMahon, 2009). Lastly the third intervention about trying to talk to
the resident s when they walk away from a meal uses the Bevis nursing tool, communication.
Communicating to the resident helps bring attention to back to the meal (McMahon, 2009). When
implementing interventions there are barriers that must be overcome in order to make them effective.
For the first intervention dealing with helping them use cutlery, a barrier can be time. This can be an
issue because care providers may not want to spend the time to properly teach the resident and want to
do it themselves so that it is faster, it is important that the nurses be supportive and patient (McGinley,
2015). The second intervention about the coloured plates can have issues arise regarding money. If it
is easier and more affordable for an institution to only have one colour plates, then having special
plates for residents with vascular dementia could be a challenge. To overcome this, having the family
bring in coloured plates if they are able to could resolve this problem (McGinley, 2015). Lastly,
having a nurse sit with a resident with vascular dementia for the duration of the meal to stop their
wandering could be a challenge because it is unlikely that an institution would be able to have health
care professionals give their complete attention to only one resident. A way to over come this could be
to sit a couple of residents

Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System
So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric
system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in
the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act
was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food
labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body weight
scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to the U.S., or
any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better interaction
with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce, the United
States should convert to the metric system.
First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system
is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and
centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We shouldn t
have to teach students two different measurement systems just because we ... Show more content on

should convert is because it would make traveling to and from the U.S. a lot easier. Going to a
different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you do
anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the distance to a
place. It shouldn t have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can even be
dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling somewhere else
would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs would be using miles
per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. Why is the United States still
part of the 5% of countries that uses a different system of

Programme Quality Assessment Of The Master Of Business And...
RESEARCH PROPOSAL
The proposed title Programme quality assessment of the Master of Business and Management.
Objective
The overall purpose of my research is to identify and minimise the gap between what the students in
terms of quality expect and what the University of Waikato s Master of Business and Management
(MBM) deliver. It aims to make the MBM programme more efficient through being more aligned
towards the student expectations and also promote better academic performance among the students.
Introduction
Universities around the world come up with ideas to promote their programmes among the
prospective students to both boost their reputation by producing top class professionals and also to
raise revenue to improve on their service. The word quality means different things to different people.
To measure the service quality of an institution, it is essential to understand how the key stakeholders
define quality. The key stakeholders who are a part of the university are the faculty and the students. It
is hence staffs and students definitions of quality that need to be analysed to develop a programme that
aligns with their perceptions and meets their expectations.
Therefore, this research will focus on seeking answers to the following questions:
1. What is the student perception of quality?
2. What is the staff perception of quality?
3. How does MBM programme compare with best practices around the world?
University of Waikato with the Triple Crown accreditation was

Masculinity As A Man s Man
When I m talking to groups that are all men , said Gloria Steinem, writer and political activist, we talk
about how the masculine role limits them. They often want to talk about how they missed having real
fathers, real loving, present fathers, because of the way that they tried to fit the picture of masculinity
(Steinem). This particular idea of masculinity is a much more modern interpretation that has changed
drastically over the centuries. Masculinity used to be defined as a male who was a man s man that
exemplified President Theodore Roosevelt s idea of pulling one s self up by the bootstraps. Over the
years, especially in literature, the evolution of masculinity can be directly traced through careful and
considerate evaluation and analysis. As we explore the evolution of masculinity, the key elements to
fully understand include what exactly it means to be a man, how this concept has changed over time,
and what it means to be a man in today s society. When the word masculinity is mentioned, typically, a
specific image is conjured in the mind of the listener or reader. This image is one of confidence, a
great athletic physique, and the idea of an overcomer. In a certain time period this would be exactly
correct, but masculinity has evolved and changed since this definition held true. So what exactly does
it mean to be a man? There are a plethora of answers to this question when looking only at one
society, let alone the entire world. However, when looking at American

Power And Pathos Of The Hellenistic Era Power and Pathos uses 50 absolute masterpieces to tell the story of the spectacular artistic developments of the Hellenistic era (4th to 1st centuries B.C.), when new forms of expression began to prevail throughout the Mediterranean basin and beyond. There was an extraordinary leap forward in the development of techniques to form the first instance of globalization of the language of art in the known world. Art was in effect, going international. This exhibit has gathered together some of the most spectacular ancient bronze sculptures that still exists today. It displays monumental life sized figures of Gods, Heroes, Athletes and rulers. Ancient cultures invented bronze. They discovered that making an alloy of copper and tin produced a strong metal that could hold great detail and objects cast with it can easily be reproduced. The ancient Greeks prized bronze for its visual worth and they used it create statue of the human body. Unfortunately, because bronze is a metal that can be cast and is expensive, it can also be melted down. Hence, large bronze statues have rarely survived from antiquity, as most were melted down so that their valuable metal can be reused. The ones that are still preserved today are mostly the same ones that were either lost at sea or buried underground. The best way to describe it is to think of the alternatives taken into consideration when someone is deciding what to do, as being parts of various alternative features (Van Inwagen). Robert Kane argues for a new version of libertarianism with an indeterminist element. He believes that deeper freedom is not an illusion. Derk Pereboom takes an agnostic approach about causal determinism and sees himself as a hard incompatibilist. However, the indeterministic chaotic process is also, experientially, the agent s effort of will something the agent is doing. The agent s choice is something that the agent does and not something that happens to the agent. Therefore, the choice reflects the agent s effort, even though the outcome is not yet determined. Kane ends his argument by saying that these reflections naturally raise further questions about whether the indeterminism required by an incompatibilist theory of free will is actually there in the brain and that every undetermined, self forming, free choice is the initiation of what might be called a value experiment whose justification lies in the future and is not fully explained by past reasons. Derk Pereboom s position is an agnostic approach about causal determinism. He contends that if causal determinism were true, we do not have the sort of free will required for moral responsibility. As a hard compatibilist, he believes that life without this kind of free will need not preclude a sense of meaning based on morality, and, in some respects, it could even be support it. When arguing against compatibilism, Pereboom first defines compatibilism as free will of the type required for moral responsibility. The narrative of the film draws a near perfect parallel between Rick and his involvement in Victor and Ilsa s struggle and America and its involvement in the Second World War. That parallel builds upon itself as the film progresses, strengthening itself through mise en scene and other stylistic elements until it finally comes into fruition in the final sequence. It is in the final sequence that the metaphor truly begins to take shape, and its meaning begins to take hold. That meaning, rooted in the narrative and supported by other stylistic elements, is that the US needs to involve itself in the war. That America s very presence in the fight, let alone its actions, will prove to be decisive in the outcome of a war that is dividing the world. Nowhere in the film is this statement by the filmmakers more evident than in the final sequence. The final sequence itself is a rallying call to the US to fight for the very beliefs it was founded on, and to join the fight to stop the advancement of the Nazi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On Society Do you ever look around in our busy everyday life full of car rides, texting, internet, high speed travel, etc. and wonder how and when we made the jump from horse drawn carriages to modern day life? The Industrial Revolution is one of the greatest and most impactful time in our nation s history that made all of these changes come to life and impacted not just the people who lived during the time, but even the life we re living today. The Industrial Revolution created many new types of industries, businesses, and products that changed the consumer culture of the time along with society as a whole. This not only includes society from that time period but for modern day life as well. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe and it really took off in Britain in the early 1700 s. Prior to the revolution people lived in small rural town and most life revolved around farming or very low income jobs. Many people made their own cloths, built their own tools, made there own furniture, and produced their own food. The Industrial Revolution was the movent that changed this way of life and made it so the rural lifestyle wasn t the main way of living anymore. Britain was the ideal society to start off the Industrial Revolution because they had a politically strong economy at the time, and they sat on huge deposits of iron and coal which was a great influence on the Revolution and its needs. Eventually this Revolution made its way to the United States. During the time of the 19th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Political And Political Effects Of The European... The European Revolutions of 1848 were sequences of republican rebellions against the monarchs, which were thought of as the height of a sequence of political, economic, and social disasters. The revolutions began in large urban areas and its results, particularly in France, Germany, and the Austrian Empire, were a shock to Europe with the defeat of the European Revolutions and cause general disenchantment with liberals. Though the revolutions spread to small rural parts, the relative strengths of leaders, as well as the conflict between liberal and nationalist and the role of the working class, all contributed to its impact. The revolutions of 1848 caused the most brutal and extensive political movements that affected the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of European nations, while aiming for democracy. France was where the revolutions first started, when its people sought suffrage worldwide. After the King discharged François Guizot, aiming to outlaw the banqueting campaign , it led to the radicals protesting which caused violence as troops shot at the protesters. This brutality amplified the anger of the French people. Refusing to release the protesters also just fueled the fight for reform even more, which led to the organization of a second government after the King s resignation. In the end, the disaster increased as the constitutional government experienced challenges. Later, the people failed to assert a new government and eventually young workers ... In the mid 1900s, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, delves into these painful nights, where he reminisces about his beloved and longs for it, usually shown in his poetry. Consequently, Faiz Ahmed Faiz uses three literary devices in many ways to portray the true subject of poetry, based on him, which is the loss of the beloved. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dark setting and mood work together to further emphasize the pain after losing a love one. Moreover, he also uses abstract emotional language to create the melancholy mood, reinforcing the theme of loss and the desire of the beloved. Faiz uses emotional language that is abstract to show desired emotions and the search of hope. For instance, he writes during the spring nights, fill your heart to the brim, and your eyes / too, / with longing and desire (551). The abstract emotional language in this quote, longing and desire work together to construct the hope for his loss of the beloved. In addition, in this quote, there is an exaggeration of being able to replete the heart with ideas, which is not possible; because the whim comes from the mind, not the heart. Therefore, this hyperbole adds an extra effect to amplify the duration of the longing for the loved one to further develop the theme of loss of the beloved. Hence, while emotional language contributes to the mood to enhance the theme, it is also the building blocks of hyperbole, an exaggeration of ideas. At the same time, Faiz utilizes hyperbole in a variety of ways to further portray the loss of the beloved. He uses hyperbole when describing his emotions that is not only affecting him emotionally, but physically too. The Amateur Ethos In Late 19th Century England The ideology of the Amateur Ethos in late 19th century England was considered among scholars as games for games sake, personal satisfaction and not for material gain (Baker 2004). This concept was the catalyst for segregating the amateur player from the professional tradesman, as a result of the fear of unfair competition ultimately brought about by men who made a career out of their game (Allison 1980). This is quite different to today s amateurism concept where the significance of intrinsic motivation has devalued due to the increased importance of extrinsic rewards (Frey Eitzen 1991). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear. So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see it as a reflection of their own society. The second intervention is changing the colour of the plates, this uses problem solving because when the resident is getting distracted then the implementation of colours can draw attention to the food. (McMahon, 2009). Lastly the third intervention about trying to talk to the resident s when they walk away from a meal uses the Bevis nursing tool, communication. Communicating to the resident helps bring attention to back to the meal (McMahon, 2009). When implementing interventions there are barriers that must be overcome in order to make them effective. For the first intervention dealing with helping them use cutlery, a barrier can be time. This can be an issue because care providers may not want to spend the time to properly teach the resident and want to do it themselves so that it is faster, it is important that the nurses be supportive and patient (McGinley, 2015). The second intervention about the coloured plates can have issues arise regarding money. If it is easier and more affordable for an institution to only have one colour plates, then having special plates for residents with vascular dementia could be a challenge. To overcome this, having the family bring in coloured plates if they are able to could resolve this problem (McGinley, 2015). Lastly, having a nurse sit with a resident with vascular dementia for the duration of the meal to stop their wandering could be a challenge because it is unlikely that an institution would be able to have health care professionals give their complete attention to only one resident. Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body weight scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to the U.S., or any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better interaction with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce, the United States should convert to the metric system. First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We shouldn t have to teach students two different measurement systems just because we ... Going to a different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you do anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the distance to a place. It shouldn t have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can even be dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling somewhere else would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs would be using miles per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. Why is the United States still part of the 5% of countries that uses a different system of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Objective The overall purpose of my research is to identify and minimise the gap between what the students in terms of quality expect and what the University of Waikato s Master of Business and Management (MBM) deliver. It aims to make the MBM programme more efficient through being more aligned towards the student expectations and also promote better academic performance among the students. Introduction Universities around the world come up with ideas to promote their programmes among the prospective students to both boost their reputation by producing top class professionals and also to raise revenue to improve on their service. The word quality means different things to different people. To measure the service quality of an institution, it is essential to understand how the key stakeholders define quality. The key stakeholders who are a part of the university are the faculty and the students. It is hence staffs and students definitions of quality that need to be analysed to develop a programme that aligns with their perceptions and meets their expectations. Therefore, this research will focus on seeking answers to the following questions: 1. What is the student perception of quality? 2. What is the staff perception of quality? 3. How does MBM programme compare with best practices around the world? University of Waikato with the Triple Crown accreditation was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Masculinity As A Man s Man When I m talking to groups that are all men , said Gloria Steinem, writer and political activist, we talk about how the masculine role limits them. They often want to talk about how they missed having real fathers, real loving, present fathers, because of the way that they tried to fit the picture of masculinity (Steinem). This particular idea of masculinity is a much more modern interpretation that has changed drastically over the centuries. Masculinity used to be defined as a male who was a man s man that exemplified President Theodore Roosevelt s idea of pulling one s self up by the bootstraps. Over the years, especially in literature, the evolution of masculinity can be directly traced through careful and considerate evaluation and analysis. As we explore the evolution of masculinity, the key elements to fully understand include what exactly it means to be a man, how this concept has changed over time, and what it means to be a man in today s society. When the word masculinity is mentioned, typically, a specific image is conjured in the mind of the listener or reader. This image is one of confidence, a great athletic physique, and the idea of an overcomer. In a certain time period this would be exactly correct, but masculinity has evolved and changed since this definition held true. So what exactly does it mean to be a man? There are a plethora of answers to this question when looking only at one society, let alone the entire world. However, when looking at American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
