How Social Class Can Change The Way People Handle Punishments
In the year 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bill Gates was arrested for driving over the
speed limit and for driving without a driver s license in his Porsche 911 (Montaldo 2015: 1). It is
rumored that Gates later paid his bail with cash from his wallet. It seems that Bill Gates didn t
care that he got pulled over. In January of 2014 Justin Bieber was arrested for driving under the
influence and for resisting arrest. Bieber reportedly donated fifty thousand dollars to a youth
charity to help as part of a plea deal. Later the drunken driving charges were dropped and Justin
went on living his normal life as if nothing had ever happened (Duke 2014: 1). These stories
portray how social classcan change the way people handle punishments. In this paper, I will review
literature found on the topic, view the issue through a sociological perspective, and then present the
main argument. Higher class individuals engaged in greater unethical behavior (Dubois, Galinsky,
Rucker 2015: 437)
There has been a lot of research on this topic. I found multiple sources that helped me better
understand the question at hand. In the article Social Class, Power, and Selfishness: When and
Why Upper and Lower Class Individuals Behave Unethically written by David Dubois, Adam D.
Galinsky, and Derek D. Rucker, I found that the upper class seem more prone to engage in
unethical, deviant behavior . There are a multiple of reasons why. Selfishness among those higher
in social class increases

Internal Identity Conflicts In Lord Furnival, By Nathaniel...
Crispin s identity is something that he struggles with throughout the book. At the beginning of the
book, his name is Asta s son since he lives with his mother and never knew his father. He grew up
with no personal name and little dignity because he and his mother were so poor. Later, he
becomes the servant of Bear and finds out he is the son of LordFurnival, the Lord of his small
villageand various others throughout England. Simply because of the fact he is Lord Furnival s
son, he is sought to be silenced and killed. At the end of the book, he chooses to become what he
wants to really be, a free man who decides where his own path will take him. Crispin realizes that
he ultimately decides who he will serve while doing what action. The social restrictions that
previously bind him are cut off and he begins his new life. The picture with the question mark in the
man s head represents the internal identity conflict.
When John Aycliffe, the steward from Crispin s village, declares Crispin a wolf s head, it
becomes legal for anyone to kill Crispin. Whoever spots him, may kill him and reap a monetary
award. Crispin does not realize until the end of the book why he is to be killed. Much conflict of
the book stems from the escaping and dodging of men searching for Crispin. He always has the
fear that he will be spotted in one of the towns while he and Bear are performing. His fears become
true when he is spotted in Great Wexley. The picture used to represent this key event in the

Van Wert Local Schools Case Study
Rough Draft Essay 3 My hometown, Van Wert County, does not run into many substantial
problems that it is forced to deal with. The town of roughly 28,000 people is relatively quiet for
the most part and is a peaceful place to live. Currently though, Van Wert cannot hold their July 4th
fireworks display at the airport like in the past because the airport is not permitted to hold them
there anymore. To help with this issue, there are three alternative solutions. These include asking
permission of the county park to run the display, simply not having the display at all forcing the
citizens to travel to a neighboring county, or moving the display to the Van Wert local school.
Moving the display to Van Wert Local School would be the best solution

The school would be a beneficial site to hold the display because it is secluded from the main
section of town. This is a significant factor because citizens of the town should not have to stress
about possible damage to their property. The school would also not be in charge of running the
event at all. Ed Gebert, the local Times Bulletin Editor, wrote an article stating who would be in
control of the display along with information about parking. Parking was proposed on the south
side of the school with the city taking care of the display, setting up and cleaning after (Gebert).
The viewers could then use the parking while the school would not have to concern themselves
with being in charge of it. In years past, the display was held at the local airport. In addition to
forcing viewers to get there early, they would also have to park along side of the road. This
solution would take away that danger, making the experience safer for all involved. An
abundance of student parking would be the ideal parking for citizens. However, disadvantages are
also present in this particular solution. The concerns of those who do live by the school should
also be taken into account. If the property were to be damaged, there would be a conflict with
those in charge. Legal consequences could arise and cause unwanted stress on many people.

SWLA Real Estate
SWLA Real Estate Balanced Scorecard
How does an organization translate a business plan into an action plan? Everything looks good on
paper; a vision, mission statement, values, objectives, and a SWOTT analysis outline what an
organization wants to do. Now all that needs to be done is to put the plans to action. Several
strategies exist for implementing a business plan aimed at achieving the organizations vision. The
balanced scorecard is one approach that many organizations find beneficial. The objectives listed
in the balanced score card are derived from the organizations mission, vision, and results of the
SWOTT analysis (Pearce and Robinson, 2005).

The initiatives that SWLA Real Estate will take to insure their success in meeting these
objectives will be in the form of a marketing mix aimed at prospective customers. Mass mailing of
postcards, seasonal items, offers for free comparative market analysis (CMA s), and general
information packets will be part of the effort to gain customers. In addition, a website will be set up
enabling users to join and receive an email newsletter on a weekly or monthly basis. These efforts
along with networking by way of community involvement will provide the organization with more
than sufficient numbers of customers.
Revenue
Office revenue is measured by the total office sales volume. The goals that have been set for
SWLA Real Estate are as follows: Year 1 $1.2 million, year 5 $6.6 Million, and year 10 $18.1
million. These numbers sound large, but once the costs are factored seeing why such high volume
is required becomes clear. This is not to say that real estate has a slow return on investment, it just
indicates that it takes money to make money. There revenue figures were derived from the market
share goals. Once the percent market share is figured it correlates directly with the total office
sales volume required to meet the market share. The initiatives behind these objectives lie in the
tiered services that will be offered as well as a consistent increase in the number

Why I Want To Pursue A Career In Radiation Oncology
I would like to be considered for the D.Phil. position in Radiation Oncology at the University of
Oxford and hope to demonstrate my ability to excel in this position. I am hard working and
extremely keen to pursue a career in science and would be well suited to undertake a D.Phil. in the
field of Radiation Oncology. I am clinically qualified as my undergraduate was in Medicineand
Surgery, following my graduation I chose to pursue a career in cancersciences so I joined university
of Glasgow (MSc Cancer sciences). My undergraduate study was composed of two parts, the first
three years were dedicated to basic medical sciences while the latter three years were clinically
oriented as the teaching was conducted in a variety of supervised inpatient and outpatient settings.

in improving patients outcomes, for example, understanding the molecular and cellular response to
radiotherapy, will help to identify novel targets that can be combined with radiotherapy to improve
treatment outcome. Unfortunately, Jordan is missing this opportunity despite the availability of
sufficient funding and infrastructure, although the reason behind this is most likely to be
multifactorial, I think one of the critical reasons would be the lack of researchers in this

Abstract
Introduction: The relationships between serum N terminal propeptide of type 1 collagen [P1NP], a
marker of bone formation, with metabolic and clinical factors have rarely been determined and
remain unclear.
Aims: To evaluate in patients with a hip fracture the association between serum P1NP concentration
(on admission) and clinical characteristics as well as short term outcomes.
Materials and Methods: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A further multivariate regression analysis revealed that the lowest tertile of serum P1NP
concentration (≤29.3µg/L) was found to be significantly associated with nursing home
residence (P value 0.034) after adjustment for age, gender and presence of hypertension; and also to
be inversely associated with ALP (P value 0.000), OC (P value 0.000) and ОІ CTX (P value 0.001)
after adjustment for age, gender, ALP, OC, and О
І CTX.
Conclusions: In elderly patients with a hip fracture, serum P1NP concentration had an inverse
relationship with age, GGT, and markers of inflammation such as CRP and NLR; and a positive
relationship with the bone turnover markers OC and ОІ CTX, ALP, and may predict prolonged
length of hospital stay and new nursing home discharge.
What is Known in Regards to Serum N terminal propeptide of type 1 collagen (P1NP)
Predominantly produced by osteoblasts and minor amounts synthesised by the liver
Recommended as a marker of bone formation by international institutions.
Serum P1NP concentrations decrease after administration of bisphosphonates and selective
oestrogen receptor modulators, and increase with teriparatide therapy.
Higher P1NP concentrations are associated with myocardial infarction in elderly male patients, and

Teaching And Experienced The Essentials Of Nonprescription...
Throughout the Fall and Spring semesters of 2015 and 2016, respectively, I actively participated,
learned and experienced the essentials of Nonprescription Pharmacotherapy. The course comprised
of three experiences: (1) didactic learning in the classroom, (2) hands on learning with a plethora
of over the counter (OTC) products available in the laboratory, and (3) real world experiences
counseling customers in the aisles of Walgreens pharmacystores. The didactic learningallowed me
to expand my knowledgeof the variety of ailments individuals may encounter, as well as, the
appropriate OTC medications that can alleviate and/or prevent those ailments. I pieced together
how to recommend an appropriate treatment to a patient based on their characteristics and desires.
Furthermore, I can demonstrate and describe the strengths and weaknesses of the products
available. To further enhance my knowledge, the utilization of the products helped accentuate my
abilities to recommend them to customers. I am now able to describe how they taste, and
understand the simplicity or complexity of the utilization of different products, as well. The
conglomeration of this information allows me to personalize the recommendations I make to
customers based on their needs, characteristics and other important factors. Each additional factor
that I learn helps make the recommendation more beneficial to the patient and assuages any
suffering they may be enduring. Lastly, the most pertinent

Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Airport
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for commercial aviation flights to take off and land.
Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists
of a landing area, which comprises of an aerially accessible open space including at least one
operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes
adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. An international airport has
additional facilities for customs and immigration. Most of the world s airports are owned by local,

The Family Of A Family
Introduction
A family is a group of two or more people that are related by blood, marriage (registered), adoption,
step or fostering, and who usually live together in the same household. This includes newly weds
without children, gay partners, couples with dependants, single mums or dads with children,
siblings living together, and many other variations (What is a family, 2013). A family consists of
many variables that work together to form a system. The main functions of a family are to ensure
that children are satisfactorily socialised into norms and values, to provide economics support for
other family members, to satisfy the emotional love and security in a family and to provide a sense
of place and position in the society.
Families underwent significant shifts in structure over the 20th century. During the time of
federation, families often had extended relatives living together. In the years following WW2
nuclear families (A family unit that includes two married parents of opposite genders and their
biological or adopted children living in the same residence (Melissa Mayntz, 2012) became most
common although this is still the case, diversity in various kinds of family increased during the
later parts of the century. During 2001, more than 14.8 million Australians lived with at least one
other family member, between 1986 and 2001 the number of families increased by 19%. While

Core Skills Self Reflective Essay
Core Skills Self reflective Essay In this essay I will go through the most important skills that I
acquired in the last few years in relation to the ones needed in the industry. In addition, I will also
look at my weaknesses and what I can do to overcome them. Since I started my studies and up to
this date, I have learned a lot about what is required to work in the Aviation industry. There is a
wide range of skills required, although most of them apply to roles one can take on in the
specific industry. In other words, some skills are more role specific. Reflecting on my skills, I
believe I have excellent social, communication and language skills. These skills are essential in
any customer facing or team work oriented job. As explained by Morgeson, F. P. et al. in
Selecting individuals in team settings: The importance of social skills, personality characteristics,
and teamwork knowledge. (2005): Social skills are particularly important in team settings
because working in teams increases the interdependence among workers, typically producing
greater conflict, workload sharing, and coordination demands than work that is performed
independently... I have always been a people person and my communication with people is very
good. It gives me great pleasure to make other people laugh and cater for their needs. It has never
been difficult for me to form new friendships and maintain existing ones. For instance, when I was

Giardia Intestitis
Giardiasis is a diarrheal infection, caused by the microscopic parasite Giardia lamblia, and one of
the most common intestinal parasitic disease affecting humans in the United States. Parasitic
organisms need to feed off their host to survive. Giardia lamblia is a pathogenic flagellated
protozoan, and the most common flagellate isolated in clinical specimens. However, due to the
variability in the concentration of the organisms found in the various stool samples, sensitive and
specific fecal immunoassays should be used for detection of the Giardia trophozoites and cysts.
While viewing the trophozoite straight on, the ventral view presents a unique symmetrical heart

Once ingested, the cyst undergoes, excystation (parasites escape cyst) within the stomach and
duodenum because of the acids and enzymes present. Each cyst produces two trophozoites, and as
they reach the small intestine, begin to multiply rapidly. It is as the trophozoites enter the large
intestine that encystation occurs (the process of forming the cyst), due to the presence of neutral
pH and secondary bile salts. The cysts then continue toward the colon, exiting in the feces and out
into the environment. Although both the trophozoites and cysts are present in the stool, it is the
cyst that is the means of transmission of the parasite. The Giardia cysts are resilient forms that
have the capability to survive for two months in the environment. This parasite is typically found in
freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, municipal water systems, wells and swimming
pools. These fresh bodies of water can harbor Giardia through fecal, human or animal
contamination. The cycle then continues as the cysts are once again ingested along with water or
food contaminated by infected people, objects or animals. It takes as little as, 10 to 100 cysts, for
transmission to occur, which compounds the probability of infection as this parasite is found

The Staggering Number of Styles and Genres of Lutheran...
CHAPTER 1
ERHARD BODENSCHATZ AND THE FLORILEGIUM POTENSE
Lutheran church music in its first two and a half centuries can be characterized by the incorporation
of a staggering variety of styles and musical genres. Plainchant, imitative polyphony, and chorale
hymnody existed alongside one another, and composers such as Heinrich SchГјtz (1585 1672) and
Johann Hermann Schein (1586 1630) were among the first to synthesize elements of Monteverdi s
seconda pratica with a fully German practice. Fruits of this multi style crosspollination, whether a
continuo based melodic harmonic framework, polychoral textures, use of the solo voice or
obligato instruments, all paved the way for the apex of this tradition, the concerted vocal works of
J.S. Bach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Far from being an element that should be purged from the new forms of worship being developed
at this time, Luther allowed for coexistence of both Latin and German. Latin was the language of
scholarly writing and diplomacy, and to remove it entirely he believed would be detrimental to the
education of youth at the time. In the preface to his Deutsche Messe und Ordnung (German Mass
and Order of Divine Service) of 1526, Luther wrote:
For by no means would I have the Latin language completely removed from the divine service, as
my chief concern is with the youth. If I could bring to pass that Greek and Hebrew were as
familiar to us as the Latin, and offered as much good music and song, we would hold mass, sing
and read on successive Sundays in all four languages: German, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew.
Luther also acknowledged that building up a repertory of high quality German texted music which
could replace the inheritance of Latin hymnody would take considerable time. Referring to the
Roman Liturgy in the Diet of Ausburg of 1530, Luther wrote:
The best feature of these services is the fact that the fine seasonal Latin hymns have remained,

I really think this case has some meaningful points for my country. The CaliforniaElectricity Crisis
was an unprecedented disease for state government and citizens because it brought inconvenience
for citizen s daily lives and series of subsequent encumbrance for governments financial expense
or public investments. The crisis of California was cost between 40 to 45 billion dollars (Weare,
2003). Weare stated this crisis obviously would lead to a series of issues in the future because the
crisis caused catastrophic damage on the investment plans and expense management of California
state government. The financial crisis was possible because of partial deregulation legislation
instituted in 1996 by the California legislature and Governor Pete Wilson. Enron took advantage of
this deregulation and was involved in economic withholding and inflated price bidding in California
s spot markets. (FERC Summary of findings, 03 17). Actually, the deregulation legislation reform
started as early as 1996, which depended on the demand of improvement in the market. Afterward,
the state government tried to use reformation to gradually improve the whole electricity and energy
market. After the reformation, the electricity indeed achieved some success in two years. The
wholesale price and the energy demand maintained stable, at that time, the wholesale price per
month was around $30 to $40/MWh. It was a delighted period, and the achievement of

Personal Essay On Overcoming Obstacles
Booker T. Washington once wrote Successes isn t measured by the position you reach in life. It s
measured by the obstacles you overcome An obstacle I had to face and overcome would be the
time I injured my ankle. How did I overcome this obstacle you may ask? I overcame this obstacle
by being positive and having a good attitude, almost every step of the way. In the begging of 8th
grade I got a high ankle sprain on my left foot from twisting my ankle on a root. I was running
cross country and The person behind me said Oh my gosh that looked bad before I could even
say ouch . I had to rest on one foot holding a tree. My coach, who luckily heard me, helped me try
to walk, but I couldn t even put my foot on the ground without it throbbing with torment. The part

But he knew that I was in pain, so he then gave me a piggy back ride back to our training field.
When he placed me back down I was able to walk on my ankle, but I was limping like a wounded
soldier. Everyone came to see if I was ok and I told everyone I was fine. We then had to elevate my
foot while placing ice on it. My coach told everyone to run another warmup lap while I was
calling my parents to pick me up not knowing what was actually wrong with my foot. When I
got home I saw that I wasn t even capable of moving my foot. All I felt was agony. I also noticed
that my foot was at an angle. It looked like a sad willow tree. When my mom got home she looked
mad at me like what I did was my fault, that I injured myself. My mom never liked that I did cross
country because of how dangerous it is. So all she wanted to do was verify her point that it was
wild. Now remember when I said

Telecommuting Essay example
Telecommuting
As defined in Webster s New World Dictionary, Third Edition, telecommuting is quot;an electronic
mode of doing work outside the office that traditionally has been done in the office, as by computer
terminal in the employee s home. quot; Basically, it is working at home utilizing current
technology, such as computers, modems, and fax machines. Traditionally, people have commuted
by cars, buses, trains, and subways, to work and back. Through the innovation of telecommuting, ,
the actual necessity to change location in order to accomplish this task has been challenged on the
basis of concerns for energy conservation, loss of productivity, and other issues.

One can go to work simply by tossing on a robe and slippers, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting
down to the terminal. You would no longer have to worry if the car will start, if your clothes are
neat, or if you re perfectly groomed.
That may still be important to you, but it no longer has to be. And you are no longer interrupted
by the idle chatter that inevitably takes place at the central work place some of it useful for your
work, but a lot of it is just a waste of time and a perpetual interruption. As quoted in
Computerworld, one telecommuter comments quot;I was feeling really cramped in our old office. I
find I can get much more done. It is much more quiet here at home. quot;
In addition, telecommuting reduces family related stress by allowing involvement with family and
flexibility in location of a remote worksite.
Working in the home offers people a greater opportunity to share quality time with family members,
to promote family values and develop stronger family ties and unity. Also, time saved through
telecommuting could be spent with family members constructively in ways that promote and foster
resolution of family problems. Since the actual location a telecommuter works from isn t relevant,
the person could actually move to another town. This would alleviate the stress caused when a
spouse has an opportunity to pursue his or her career in another town and must choose between a
new opportunity or no opportunity, because

Sociological Perspectives
If a parent has a low socioeconomic status and a low level of educational attainment, will their child
likely have a low grade point average? Can a parent s involvement in their child s education and
school improve that student s grades? Does being a minority and a teacher affect a teacher s
experiences in the workplace? Questions like these are ones that sociologists attempt to answer by
means of multiple paradigms. The five major paradigms that sociologists utilize are symbolic
interactionism, exchange theory, structural functionalism, conflict theory, and feminist theory.
Symbolic interactionism looks at symbols within a society to understand how individuals interact
with one another. Exchange theory explains how people make decisions, through the premise that
individuals aim to risk the least and gain the most.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict theory is about how the groups which make up societies struggle because of scarcity and
self interest. Feminist theory is the concept that genders are not treated equally because societies
are generally centered around men. Through the lens of each of these perspectives, sociologists
strive to explain trends and norms that exist in society. Each of these theories is like a different
pair of shoes for sociologists to step into and view society from a new angle. These various
potential viewpoints are useful to both society and sociologists. Sociologists benefit from
paradigms because they can study society from a neutral standpoint that isn t limiting the way their
own personal understanding could be. When sociologists can find reason within society by using
these theories, they can also figure out where changes need to be made for the better in

Cop 3330 Object Oriented Programming. Daniel Gutierrez.
COP 3330 Object Oriented Programming

Object oriented programming at its core is a practice of strategic thinking. Essentially, in OOP we
tend to focus on objects rather than actions and data rather than logic. A key step in OOP is
identifying the objects one wants to manipulate and observing how they relate to each other. The
basic idea of OOP involves breaking up the code into objects that can message each other, which
proves to be very beneficial. To better understand and use object oriented programming as intended,
I decided to investigate two different languages that implement the object oriented approach to
programming. I chose Java because I am already familiar with the syntax and its ... Show more

C# is a general purpose programming language as part of Microsoft s .NET initiative. It was
designed for the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI). C# applications are compiled into
bytecode that can run on implementations of the CLI. The fact that Microsoft own Visual Studio
means that the IDE is not easily accessible to anyone, as Java is. That is later mentioned in the
differences between the two.
From an article that suggests that C# is an evolution of Java, I was able to gather evidence on
the similarities between them and understand the ways that C# actually improves upon, when
compared to Java. An interesting discovery in my research was that the keywords in Java
language are very similar to the ones in C#; for example, new, bool, this, break, static, class,
throw, virtual, and null. But they are a few different keywords in C# that simply are not the same
as in Java. Furthermore, C# and Java share the same primitive data types, with the exception that
C# uses the System namespace regarding those objects. In C# and Java, there is built in garbage
collection, it helps prevent memory leaks by removing objects that are no longer being used by the
application. Basically, this means that, although memory leaks can occur, memory management is
pretty much taken care for you. From an article that suggests that C# is an evolution of Java, I was

Child Life Experience
This week at Tufts, I was able to intern both Friday and Saturday. Going into this week, I
imagined going in two days in a row would be beneficial to my experience. I thought that I would
be able to build a stronger connection to some of the children that would be staying at the
hospital; however, this was not the case. I realized from working these past two days that the role
and day of a Child Life Specialistdepends on the admittance to a hospital. This may be the case
for other hospital staff as well. On Friday, there was 20 total children who were admitted to the

Descartes Philosophy
Descartes Philosophy Rene Descartes is a philosopher that lived during the Enlightenment period
and is famous for his philosophy of methodological doubt. His method of doubt was psychological
in character, involved a kind of rational insight, and implied a justified belief analysis of knowledge,
with justification construed in terms of being unshakable. (Newman) An important function of his
method was to enable people to redirect their attention from the senses to clear and distinct ideas
through intellect, reason, and doubt. Descartes understood knowledge as advancing truth. The
Enlightenment was an intellectual period that brought about ideas of God, reason, nature, and
man. It was a period of political and social upheaval that brought about revolutions and a period of
learning to think for oneself, employing and relying on the individual s capabilities to determine
how to think and act. (Bristow) Philosophy of that period caused tension with established religions.
By using the intellect to think and act, it required opposing the role of established religion by
redirecting thoughts and actions. It brought people to a higher human existence that was more
fulfilled. Men became more rational and developed goals of obtaining more knowledge, freedom,
and happiness. With turmoil in the empire, people became concerned for personal salvation, which
also opposed the role of religion. Established religion of those days taught that people should follow

Simon As A Christ Figure Analysis
The Christ Figure
A Christ figure could be interpreted as an individual that is a manifestation or delegation of
Jesus Christ. It is apparent to distinguish a Christ like human from someone of common
characteristics by their alluring behavior. For instance, one could define this feature using
appearance, personality, and attitude. The Lord of the Flies is a novel that opens up with a
plane departing a group of schoolboys from Britain that had been shot down over a desolate
island. Britain had been in the depths of a war and these school kids go to extreme in means of
survival. Initially, the boys relished the idea of not having any adults with them until they had
realized they could not possibly live without them for long. Simon, one of the schoolboys on the
island, was introduced as a spiritual, kind hearted kid.Acknowledging he possess these components,
Simon appears detached from the rest of the boys. This essay will demonstrate how the novel
portrays Simon as a Christ Figure by the way he performs on the island, such as his seclusion and
peaceful nature, his appearance, his actions towards the boys, and his death.
Simon primarily is isolated from all that is occurring on the island. He portrays himself as one of
the sane boys considering the rest had exposed savage like demeanor from remaining on the
island for an extended amount of time. Simon paused. He looked over his shoulder as Jack had

Use Of Setting In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
Analysis of Setting in Tell Tale Heart Edgar Allen Poe uses the literary device setting , to create
a dark tone in his story, The Tell Tale Heart . The story uses about 5 settings: 3 of them are used
often, like Mood and Atmosphere, the Time of Day, and Elapsed Time, while the other two are
not common, like Locale and Population. They help the story a lot by making it spooky. Mood
and Atmosphere in this story uses lighting the most. Evidence of this is when the Madman has his
lamp covered in black, so that he can see what he is doing, but the Old Man cannot. The Old Man s
room in the story is pitch black at night, making it scary when The Madman enters. Also, the

What Is Socrates Claim That The Unexamined Life Is Not...
I have long been intrigued by the claim, attributed to Socrates, that the unexamined life is not
worth living . For a start, there is the absolute and uncompromising tone of the language, not
worth living . Why not set the bar lower and simply claim that an examined life is better than the
alternative or that it s useful to think about things before acting? Perhaps the quotation was
framed with a fair measure of rhetorical flourish. On the other hand, what if the words were
meant to be taken at face value? What could lead a person to say that a certain type of life is not
worth living? I do not (and cannot) know precisely what the historical Socrates had mind. After all,
he is glimpsed but darkly through myriad competing lenses tinged by the... Show more content on

This understanding is, unsurprisingly, unoriginal a bog standard , this worldly form of
humanism. Despite this, I still find it useful to discuss. Although it seems rather obvious, I think
that the key to understanding Socrates claim is to recognise it as being addressed to those who
participate in human Being (that form of Being that is distinctive to humans). For Socrates (as
for many others then and since) human Being is marked by the capacity to transcend instinct and
desire and to make conscious, ethical choices. This is not to deny that instinct and desire have
the power to shape human behaviour (at least as powerfully as they do in the case of other forms
of being ant, cow, fish, etc.). However, while I think it highly unlikely that any lion would not kill
an antelope out of concern for the children of its prey, I know that many human beings can and do
act against the urgings of instinct and desire simply because they think that to act would be wrong.
There need be no restraining hand, no accusing witness. Rather, a simple belief that some act is
wrong will regulate behavior even if

Analysis Of The Public Enemy And Scarface

phase up until today, and with time comes change and adapt to what s current and popular.
However, one thing that has stayed constant are the upcoming of film genre. One of the primary
ways to identify and differentiate films are by their genres and styles. This lays out the foundation
of the filmusing many factors like iconography, language, conflicts, lighting and story plot. One of
the most iconic styles in the cinematic world would have to be the typical gangster films. Two of the
most recognizable gangster films of their time were the Public Enemy (1931), along with the film
Scarface (1983). Although these two films were shot in completely different eras of the U.S. we see
both encounter the same stages in life despite the time change. This goes to show that these two
films strongly symbolizes and demonstrates just what the gangster genre is all about in terms of
social context, themes, conflict and iconography. This classical landmark film, The Public enemy,
introduces the social context of gangster films around the same time Prohibition and the Great
Depressionreally started to take a toll on lives. While the later well known film, Scarface, was
placed in the era of mass immigration from Cuba to Florida, with the growth in popularity of the

worked without checks and balances, and strictly with trail and error. The structure that was used
in those days was not entirely solid in design. There was no procedure to fight crime and law
enforcement had no basis. Then, modern policing began in the early nineteenth century. Sir Robert

The Last Winter Film Analysis
ABSTRACT
Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards
ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton,
2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that
people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull
subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of
movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or
benefits of environmental change more creatively.
This study will seek to describe one such movie and discuss the different factors, assumptions,
impacts, and scientific accuracies to the same regard. It will also put into consideration the truths,
consequences, and facts that have been portrayed in the movie. The Last Winter, whose release was
in 2007, is a movie that explains environmental changes based on global warming. Its effects and
shall discuss it and try to understand the angle that the producer took in conveying the ecological
change message as well as point out whether it provides a solution for the problem so discovered.

brings strange events that could not be explained entirely easily. Oil exploration is one of the

The Impact of World War I on Canadian Economic Development
Introduction
World War I has had traumatic effects on the countries that participated in it in terms of
many aspects such as the tremendous amount of debt and war costs that they had to

most strongly reflected in the form of changing political, economic and social structures,
and public opinion across those participant nations or even other parts of the world for
decades even after the official end of World War I

At the end of the War, changes in political structures were evident in many countries,

I. Preceding Years of the War
During the preceding years of WWI, Canada had little doubt about the power and
importance of its own Empire, Great Britain, home to the world s greatest industrial
power and highest concentration of capital before WWI.7 Thus, as a young country
dependent on the political and economic relations with Britain, its economic growth was
closely correlated to the economic well being of its Empire. As a result, Canada
possessed an optimistic outlook on its economic development that came not only from its
own growth but from its participation as a member of the Empire of nations of the
world s greatest industrial power. 8
A sharp recession took place in the nation in early 1913 that marked the end of a cycle
that Canada was closely linked to which was the long cycle of international prosperity
that had begun in the late 1890s. Economists at the time argued that this recession was
due to a tightening of credit on the London money market.9 As a result, money became

Since the dawn of human consciousness our species has labored with the thought of something
bigger than us, someone like the best part of us, something divine. Whether an individual believes

that higher powers name. Wars have been fought, commitments have been made, and borders have

belief in a higher power. Through the use of fiction, poetry, and prose, we have used literature to

City of the gods, temple of the sun and moon, these names sound like places out of an Indiana

Teotihuacan, Mexico. Teotihuacan is found north east of Mexico City in the flat plain lands of
the Mexican valley . Named by the Aztecs who found the abandoned city, they marveled at the
massive scale of the buildings and the city itself. The only reasonable explanation the Aztecs

The biggest motive behind banning is the separation of church and state. Separation of church and
state is the distance between religion and the nation state. This is hard concept to find a concept
to find a fine line between church and state. This can be resolved by keeping everything
completely separate. All church related stuff stays within church or home and all state stuff is
elsewhere. Prayer within ones self is not banned so there is no need for mandatory prayer
especially if there are students who choose not to pray. They would be singled out due to not
participating which is not fair for them. Prayer within public schools could potentially lead to
intolerance due to religious difference amongst the students that were unaware. This could again
also lead to singling out student also known as ostracized. Public schools were created for all
students and are funded by all taxpayers. With that being said it only makes sense and is right for
the school to stay neutral due to the difference in religious beliefs between students and taxpayers.

Some days Linda, the owner, would leave and go on errands for the bakery or would get
migraines and go home for the day. Nothing would change when she left other than the fact of
locking up. There was only one manager who has worked in the bakery since the day it opened,
Taylor. Taylor was a kind hearted soul who would help anyone in need. She would always be
willing to stay late or come in early with a smile on her face. I looked up to this method and
copied this in my work with the bakery.
One day a couple came in telling Linda that they forgot to order a cake for their wedding that was
two days away. Linda completely understood the situation and of course said yes. Once she told
us I was the first one that said I would stay late and help make the wedding cake. Linda and
Taylor were both happy because they both knew they needed the help. Later that day when we
started baking the cake Linda got a migraine and had to leave and go home, so Taylor and I
continued on working on the cake. It was getting kind of late so we found a stopping point.
After cleaning up and closing down for the night I hung my apron and said I would see her in the
morning. Once I got to my truck I released I forgot my phone inside and luckily Taylor did not lock
the door yet. I went back inside to look for where I left it. I could not find it in the back where we
were baking nor could I find Taylor, which I thought was a little odd. I headed to the front to see if

Analysis Of Les Foules Or The Crowd
Les Foules or The Crowd is one of the poems of Charles Baudelaire. It is said that not everybody
is given the privilege to bathe in the swarm. The joy of indulgence in the crowd is a skill in
itself. Any human by himself or herself at the cost of fun of spirit is a person whom a faerie has
encouraged a flavor of attire and mask in his cradle. This person disliked home life and dedication
for journey. Withdrawal and confinement are like and correspondent terms for an effective and
artistic poet. A person who cannot handle being abandoned in the busy crowd, is not aware how to
inhabit his isolation. Just like the way guilty souls hunt for a body, that he admires he enters. The
poet also takes pleasure in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the swift glance of this unfamiliar citizen lies her graceful charm. The spectator feels that in her
swift glance resides a brief aspect which strongly pulls him towards the end and at the same time he
appreciates his life.
In On Some Motifs in Baudelaire , Benjamin writes: In a widow s veil, mysteriously and mutely
borne along by the crowd, an unknown woman comes into the poet s field of vision. What this
sonnet communicates is simply this: Far from experiencing the crowd as an opposed, antagonistic
element, this very crowd brings to the city dweller the figure that fascinates. The delight of the
urban poet is love not at first sight, but at last sight.
In this poem, the crowd is made up of individual figures and the widow gives us a constant
materialistic indication of this. The character of the widow is symbolic to predict the
prospective and feasibility. These are all the destined traits in which the so called widow will
never have the option to be unsuccessful. She is seen as a rugged picture in a slab of marble
because she is not considered to be much of a completed task with statue s form . Baudelaire fulfils
the particulars in whichever suitable way it flashes his personal creative requirements. The Flaneur
portrays his individual aspect of human nature and thinks of the

Changes In The Ottoman Empire
The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime
expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own
particular investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state
and pushed for changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would
promote new opportunity and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states
expected that a further decrease in the Ottoman Empirewould strengthen political and military
unsteadiness in the Balkans, which consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe.
Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented
an arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for
reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their
political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. The Tanzimat changes
nullified the customary qualification of the Ottoman subjects to those belonging to the ummah and
viewed everyone of them as Ottoman residents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Russia, the Christian character of Europe was an obstruction for the Ottoman reformers to
seek after an approach of wholesale Westernization. Islam was a key distinction of the Ottoman
state and civilization, which obliged nineteenth century reformists to embrace particular
modernization. Its main precepts were: the guarantee of the life and property of all imperial
subjects; the prohibition of punishment without a fair trial; implicit recognition of the equality of
Muslim and non Muslim subjects before the law; taxation in keeping with individual income;
abolition of tax farming; and settlement of the period of military

What Is The 1988 Reform Act To Present
There s little disbelief that education, as a social institution, has an important role to play in our
society (Moore, Aiken, Chapman, 2005). This essay will look further into the influences of social,
economic and political changes in Britain s education over the last 30 years. The essay will mainly
review and focus on the eras between the 1988 reform Act to present. This essay will explore further
into the influences of the national curriculum, how conservatives, labour and the coalition have
affected social and economic environments in educationand comparisons between the conservatives
and labour. It will also discuss, philosophers Dewey and Freire reviewing how both of their
methods of pedagogy has influenced teachers methods and approaches to teaching.
Successive conservatives in the 1980s increased the pace of improvement and reform and
introduced Market Mechanisms into the education system, in aim to force schools to increase their
standards of teaching (Ross Gibson, 2007). The real uprising in Britain s education legislation came
in 1988 when the education Reform Act was introduced, this Act is widely known to be the most
important since the 1944 Butlers Act (Meredith, 1989). The Act introduced the National
curriculum, so far being the most important provision, presenting new outcomes for secondary and
primary education. The National Curriculum sets out attainment targets, knowledge, skills and
understanding for which children would be expected to have by

Analysis of American Pie Essay
As the song begins, the narrator seems to feel nostalgic about the music written by a certain
person, and he describes the way that music made him smile (1 3). He misses the music from the
past that could make people smile, and that could help them forget their troubles. McLean seems
to be referring to the 1950s, which is clearer in the chorus of the song. As the speaker goes on, he
says, But February made me shiver / With every paper I d deliver. Here it is widely believe that
Don McLeanis referring to the death of Buddy Holly. He is said to have been delivering newspapers
on his paper route the February that he learned of Buddy Holly s death. The speaker identifies
Holly by the month of his death, and the, widowed bride, (12)... Show more content on

He thought that the Beatles were warning America about the racial conflict happening at the time.
Manson wrote the title of the song on the wall in blood after committing the murders. In the line,
We all got up to dance / Oh, but we never got the chance, the writer could be speaking about how
the Beatles wrote songs meant for listening and not dancing. Throughout this verse, the writer talks
about, players. I believe that here he is most likely referring to the many protesters around this
time. He says, sweet perfume, (57) most likely to refer to the use of tear gas against protestors. He
seems to believe that the government is corrupt when he says, Cause the players tried to take the
field (61). Here he means that the protestors tried to create change but the government would not
allow them to make the changes. McLean continues his allusions to events happening around him
and in the past, and he again ends the verse with his constantly repeated line, The day the music
died.
The next verse seems to focus on the events that happened at Altamont in 1969. The flower children
gathered at Altamont, 300,000 strong, in a frenzy of drugs, alcohol and escalating violence (Fann).
McLean is pointing out here that the ideas of the counterculture are obviously not going to

Robert Downey Jr Research Paper
Robert Downey Jr. is a well known American actor known for the roles in a wide range of films,
including Iron Man, The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Chaplin. His background in movies
and acting arrived from his parents being around in the business. Nonetheless, the life of a
celebrity is not as sophisticated as it seems, especially for Robert Downey Jr who had a drug abuse
problem starting at a young age.
History and Background
Robert Downey Jr s tackle with addiction began at the age of six years old. His father, Robert
Downey Sr, was a rich filmmaker and together initiated his son s film career and future drug
addiction. Robert Downey Sr gave his son a small role in the movie Pound at age of five, where
Downey Jr played a role of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In October 1997, one of Downey s drug counselor testifies that Downey had skipped a drug test. In
December of that same year, the court concluded that Downey had violated his probation and Judge
Mira sentences the actor to Los Angeles County Men s Central Jail, where he spent 113 days
between 1997 and 1998. Robert Downey Jr s time in jail was at a low security level, he was
placed as a normal inmate, where his presences resulted in numerous fights. Downey was an
objective of many fights due to his celebrity status and considering a pretty boy celebrity was not
helping. Many of the fights emerged in various cuts and abrasion. The altercation got serious
that he received a severe gash from three inmates and had to be moved to a solitary confinement.
After serving 113 days, Downey was released, and in 1998, he checks in a court ordered 120
days of a rehab program, where he remained on probation. In June 1999, he was ordered to a strict
24 hour rehabilitation center for admitting to missing another drug test. Despite Downey s pleas
and legal team, in August of 1999, the judge ordered him three years at the California Substance
Abuse Treatment Facility and state prison in Cocoran, California, where he records 201 days
served. Robert Downey Jr

  • 2. How Social Class Can Change The Way People Handle Punishments In the year 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bill Gates was arrested for driving over the speed limit and for driving without a driver s license in his Porsche 911 (Montaldo 2015: 1). It is rumored that Gates later paid his bail with cash from his wallet. It seems that Bill Gates didn t care that he got pulled over. In January of 2014 Justin Bieber was arrested for driving under the influence and for resisting arrest. Bieber reportedly donated fifty thousand dollars to a youth charity to help as part of a plea deal. Later the drunken driving charges were dropped and Justin went on living his normal life as if nothing had ever happened (Duke 2014: 1). These stories portray how social classcan change the way people handle punishments. In this paper, I will review literature found on the topic, view the issue through a sociological perspective, and then present the main argument. Higher class individuals engaged in greater unethical behavior (Dubois, Galinsky, Rucker 2015: 437) There has been a lot of research on this topic. I found multiple sources that helped me better understand the question at hand. In the article Social Class, Power, and Selfishness: When and Why Upper and Lower Class Individuals Behave Unethically written by David Dubois, Adam D. Galinsky, and Derek D. Rucker, I found that the upper class seem more prone to engage in unethical, deviant behavior . There are a multiple of reasons why. Selfishness among those higher in social class increases ... • 3. Internal Identity Conflicts In Lord Furnival, By Nathaniel... Crispin s identity is something that he struggles with throughout the book. At the beginning of the book, his name is Asta s son since he lives with his mother and never knew his father. He grew up with no personal name and little dignity because he and his mother were so poor. Later, he becomes the servant of Bear and finds out he is the son of LordFurnival, the Lord of his small villageand various others throughout England. Simply because of the fact he is Lord Furnival s son, he is sought to be silenced and killed. At the end of the book, he chooses to become what he wants to really be, a free man who decides where his own path will take him. Crispin realizes that he ultimately decides who he will serve while doing what action. The social restrictions that previously bind him are cut off and he begins his new life. The picture with the question mark in the man s head represents the internal identity conflict. When John Aycliffe, the steward from Crispin s village, declares Crispin a wolf s head, it becomes legal for anyone to kill Crispin. Whoever spots him, may kill him and reap a monetary award. Crispin does not realize until the end of the book why he is to be killed. Much conflict of the book stems from the escaping and dodging of men searching for Crispin. He always has the fear that he will be spotted in one of the towns while he and Bear are performing. His fears become true when he is spotted in Great Wexley. The picture used to represent this key event in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Van Wert Local Schools Case Study Rough Draft Essay 3 My hometown, Van Wert County, does not run into many substantial problems that it is forced to deal with. The town of roughly 28,000 people is relatively quiet for the most part and is a peaceful place to live. Currently though, Van Wert cannot hold their July 4th fireworks display at the airport like in the past because the airport is not permitted to hold them there anymore. To help with this issue, there are three alternative solutions. These include asking permission of the county park to run the display, simply not having the display at all forcing the citizens to travel to a neighboring county, or moving the display to the Van Wert local school. Moving the display to Van Wert Local School would be the best solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The school would be a beneficial site to hold the display because it is secluded from the main section of town. This is a significant factor because citizens of the town should not have to stress about possible damage to their property. The school would also not be in charge of running the event at all. Ed Gebert, the local Times Bulletin Editor, wrote an article stating who would be in control of the display along with information about parking. Parking was proposed on the south side of the school with the city taking care of the display, setting up and cleaning after (Gebert). The viewers could then use the parking while the school would not have to concern themselves with being in charge of it. In years past, the display was held at the local airport. In addition to forcing viewers to get there early, they would also have to park along side of the road. This solution would take away that danger, making the experience safer for all involved. An abundance of student parking would be the ideal parking for citizens. However, disadvantages are also present in this particular solution. The concerns of those who do live by the school should also be taken into account. If the property were to be damaged, there would be a conflict with those in charge. Legal consequences could arise and cause unwanted stress on many people. Moving the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everything looks good on paper; a vision, mission statement, values, objectives, and a SWOTT analysis outline what an organization wants to do. Now all that needs to be done is to put the plans to action. Several strategies exist for implementing a business plan aimed at achieving the organizations vision. The balanced scorecard is one approach that many organizations find beneficial. In addition, a website will be set up enabling users to join and receive an email newsletter on a weekly or monthly basis. These efforts along with networking by way of community involvement will provide the organization with more than sufficient numbers of customers. Revenue Office revenue is measured by the total office sales volume. The goals that have been set for SWLA Real Estate are as follows: Year 1 $1.2 million, year 5 $6.6 Million, and year 10 $18.1 million. These numbers sound large, but once the costs are factored seeing why such high volume is required becomes clear. This is not to say that real estate has a slow return on investment, it just indicates that it takes money to make money. There revenue figures were derived from the market share goals. Once the percent market share is figured it correlates directly with the total office sales volume required to meet the market share. Throughout the Fall and Spring semesters of 2015 and 2016, respectively, I actively participated, learned and experienced the essentials of Nonprescription Pharmacotherapy. The course comprised of three experiences: (1) didactic learning in the classroom, (2) hands on learning with a plethora of over the counter (OTC) products available in the laboratory, and (3) real world experiences counseling customers in the aisles of Walgreens pharmacystores. The didactic learningallowed me to expand my knowledgeof the variety of ailments individuals may encounter, as well as, the appropriate OTC medications that can alleviate and/or prevent those ailments. I pieced together how to recommend an appropriate treatment to a patient based on their characteristics and desires. Furthermore, I can demonstrate and describe the strengths and weaknesses of the products available. To further enhance my knowledge, the utilization of the products helped accentuate my abilities to recommend them to customers. I am now able to describe how they taste, and understand the simplicity or complexity of the utilization of different products, as well. The conglomeration of this information allows me to personalize the recommendations I make to customers based on their needs, characteristics and other important factors. Parasitic organisms need to feed off their host to survive. Giardia lamblia is a pathogenic flagellated protozoan, and the most common flagellate isolated in clinical specimens. However, due to the variability in the concentration of the organisms found in the various stool samples, sensitive and specific fecal immunoassays should be used for detection of the Giardia trophozoites and cysts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once ingested, the cyst undergoes, excystation (parasites escape cyst) within the stomach and duodenum because of the acids and enzymes present. Each cyst produces two trophozoites, and as they reach the small intestine, begin to multiply rapidly. It is as the trophozoites enter the large intestine that encystation occurs (the process of forming the cyst), due to the presence of neutral pH and secondary bile salts. The cysts then continue toward the colon, exiting in the feces and out into the environment. Although both the trophozoites and cysts are present in the stool, it is the cyst that is the means of transmission of the parasite. The Giardia cysts are resilient forms that have the capability to survive for two months in the environment. This parasite is typically found in freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, municipal water systems, wells and swimming pools. These fresh bodies of water can harbor Giardia through fecal, human or animal contamination. The cycle then continues as the cysts are once again ingested along with water or food contaminated by infected people, objects or animals. It takes as little as, 10 to 100 cysts, for transmission to occur, which compounds the probability of infection as this parasite is found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CHAPTER 1 ERHARD BODENSCHATZ AND THE FLORILEGIUM POTENSE Lutheran church music in its first two and a half centuries can be characterized by the incorporation of a staggering variety of styles and musical genres. Plainchant, imitative polyphony, and chorale hymnody existed alongside one another, and composers such as Heinrich SchГјtz (1585 1672) and Johann Hermann Schein (1586 1630) were among the first to synthesize elements of Monteverdi s seconda pratica with a fully German practice. Fruits of this multi style crosspollination, whether a continuo based melodic harmonic framework, polychoral textures, use of the solo voice or obligato instruments, all paved the way for the apex of this tradition, the concerted vocal works of J.S. Bach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Far from being an element that should be purged from the new forms of worship being developed at this time, Luther allowed for coexistence of both Latin and German. Latin was the language of scholarly writing and diplomacy, and to remove it entirely he believed would be detrimental to the education of youth at the time. In the preface to his Deutsche Messe und Ordnung (German Mass and Order of Divine Service) of 1526, Luther wrote: For by no means would I have the Latin language completely removed from the divine service, as my chief concern is with the youth. If I could bring to pass that Greek and Hebrew were as familiar to us as the Latin, and offered as much good music and song, we would hold mass, sing and read on successive Sundays in all four languages: German, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. Luther also acknowledged that building up a repertory of high quality German texted music which could replace the inheritance of Latin hymnody would take considerable time. Referring to the Roman Liturgy in the Diet of Ausburg of 1530, Luther wrote: The best feature of these services is the fact that the fine seasonal Latin hymns have remained, although, ... • 23. Personal Essay On Overcoming Obstacles Booker T. Washington once wrote Successes isn t measured by the position you reach in life. It s measured by the obstacles you overcome An obstacle I had to face and overcome would be the time I injured my ankle. How did I overcome this obstacle you may ask? I overcame this obstacle by being positive and having a good attitude, almost every step of the way. In the begging of 8th grade I got a high ankle sprain on my left foot from twisting my ankle on a root. I was running cross country and The person behind me said Oh my gosh that looked bad before I could even say ouch . I had to rest on one foot holding a tree. We then had to elevate my foot while placing ice on it. My coach told everyone to run another warmup lap while I was calling my parents to pick me up not knowing what was actually wrong with my foot. When I got home I saw that I wasn t even capable of moving my foot. All I felt was agony. I also noticed that my foot was at an angle. It looked like a sad willow tree. Working in the home offers people a greater opportunity to share quality time with family members, to promote family values and develop stronger family ties and unity. Also, time saved through telecommuting could be spent with family members constructively in ways that promote and foster resolution of family problems. Can a parent s involvement in their child s education and school improve that student s grades? Does being a minority and a teacher affect a teacher s experiences in the workplace? Questions like these are ones that sociologists attempt to answer by means of multiple paradigms. The five major paradigms that sociologists utilize are symbolic interactionism, exchange theory, structural functionalism, conflict theory, and feminist theory. COP 3330 Object Oriented Programming Daniel Gutierrez PID: 3923693 April 9, 2017 Object oriented programming at its core is a practice of strategic thinking. Essentially, in OOP we tend to focus on objects rather than actions and data rather than logic. A key step in OOP is identifying the objects one wants to manipulate and observing how they relate to each other. The basic idea of OOP involves breaking up the code into objects that can message each other, which proves to be very beneficial. To better understand and use object oriented programming as intended, I decided to investigate two different languages that implement the object oriented approach to programming. From an article that suggests that C# is an evolution of Java, I was able to gather evidence on the similarities between them and understand the ways that C# actually improves upon, when compared to Java. An interesting discovery in my research was that the keywords in Java language are very similar to the ones in C#; for example, new, bool, this, break, static, class, throw, virtual, and null. But they are a few different keywords in C# that simply are not the same as in Java. Furthermore, C# and Java share the same primitive data types, with the exception that C# uses the System namespace regarding those objects. His method of doubt was psychological in character, involved a kind of rational insight, and implied a justified belief analysis of knowledge, with justification construed in terms of being unshakable. (Newman) An important function of his method was to enable people to redirect their attention from the senses to clear and distinct ideas through intellect, reason, and doubt. Descartes understood knowledge as advancing truth. The Enlightenment was an intellectual period that brought about ideas of God, reason, nature, and man. It was a period of political and social upheaval that brought about revolutions and a period of learning to think for oneself, employing and relying on the individual s capabilities to determine how to think and act. (Bristow) Philosophy of that period caused tension with established religions. By using the intellect to think and act, it required opposing the role of established religion by redirecting thoughts and actions. It brought people to a higher human existence that was more fulfilled. Men became more rational and developed goals of obtaining more knowledge, freedom, and happiness. For a start, there is the absolute and uncompromising tone of the language, not worth living . Why not set the bar lower and simply claim that an examined life is better than the alternative or that it s useful to think about things before acting? Perhaps the quotation was framed with a fair measure of rhetorical flourish. On the other hand, what if the words were meant to be taken at face value? For Socrates (as for many others then and since) human Being is marked by the capacity to transcend instinct and desire and to make conscious, ethical choices. This is not to deny that instinct and desire have the power to shape human behaviour (at least as powerfully as they do in the case of other forms of being ant, cow, fish, etc.). Linda completely understood the situation and of course said yes. Once she told us I was the first one that said I would stay late and help make the wedding cake. Linda and Taylor were both happy because they both knew they needed the help. Later that day when we started baking the cake Linda got a migraine and had to leave and go home, so Taylor and I continued on working on the cake. It was getting kind of late so we found a stopping point. After cleaning up and closing down for the night I hung my apron and said I would see her in the morning. Once I got to my truck I released I forgot my phone inside and luckily Taylor did not lock the door yet. I went back inside to look for where I left it. I could not find it in the back where we were baking nor could I find Taylor, which I thought was a little odd. I headed to the front to see if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Analysis Of Les Foules Or The Crowd Les Foules or The Crowd is one of the poems of Charles Baudelaire. It is said that not everybody is given the privilege to bathe in the swarm. The joy of indulgence in the crowd is a skill in itself. Any human by himself or herself at the cost of fun of spirit is a person whom a faerie has encouraged a flavor of attire and mask in his cradle. This person disliked home life and dedication for journey. Withdrawal and confinement are like and correspondent terms for an effective and artistic poet. A person who cannot handle being abandoned in the busy crowd, is not aware how to inhabit his isolation. Just like the way guilty souls hunt for a body, that he admires he enters. The poet also takes pleasure in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the swift glance of this unfamiliar citizen lies her graceful charm. The spectator feels that in her swift glance resides a brief aspect which strongly pulls him towards the end and at the same time he appreciates his life. In On Some Motifs in Baudelaire , Benjamin writes: In a widow s veil, mysteriously and mutely borne along by the crowd, an unknown woman comes into the poet s field of vision. What this sonnet communicates is simply this: Far from experiencing the crowd as an opposed, antagonistic element, this very crowd brings to the city dweller the figure that fascinates. The delight of the urban poet is love not at first sight, but at last sight. In this poem, the crowd is made up of individual figures and the widow gives us a constant materialistic indication of this. The character of the widow is symbolic to predict the prospective and feasibility. These are all the destined traits in which the so called widow will never have the option to be unsuccessful. She is seen as a rugged picture in a slab of marble because she is not considered to be much of a completed task with statue s form . Baudelaire fulfils the particulars in whichever suitable way it flashes his personal creative requirements. The Flaneur portrays his individual aspect of human nature and thinks of the ... • 47. Changes In The Ottoman Empire The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own particular investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state and pushed for changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would promote new opportunity and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states expected that a further decrease in the Ottoman Empirewould strengthen political and military unsteadiness in the Balkans, which consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe. Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented an arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. The Tanzimat changes nullified the customary qualification of the Ottoman subjects to those belonging to the ummah and viewed everyone of them as Ottoman residents ... Islam was a key distinction of the Ottoman state and civilization, which obliged nineteenth century reformists to embrace particular modernization. • 48. What Is The 1988 Reform Act To Present There s little disbelief that education, as a social institution, has an important role to play in our society (Moore, Aiken, Chapman, 2005). This essay will look further into the influences of social, economic and political changes in Britain s education over the last 30 years. The essay will mainly review and focus on the eras between the 1988 reform Act to present. This essay will explore further into the influences of the national curriculum, how conservatives, labour and the coalition have affected social and economic environments in educationand comparisons between the conservatives and labour. It will also discuss, philosophers Dewey and Freire reviewing how both of their methods of pedagogy has influenced teachers methods and approaches to teaching. Successive conservatives in the 1980s increased the pace of improvement and reform and introduced Market Mechanisms into the education system, in aim to force schools to increase their standards of teaching (Ross Gibson, 2007). The real uprising in Britain s education legislation came in 1988 when the education Reform Act was introduced, this Act is widely known to be the most important since the 1944 Butlers Act (Meredith, 1989). • 49. Analysis of American Pie Essay As the song begins, the narrator seems to feel nostalgic about the music written by a certain person, and he describes the way that music made him smile (1 3). He misses the music from the past that could make people smile, and that could help them forget their troubles. McLean seems to be referring to the 1950s, which is clearer in the chorus of the song. As the speaker goes on, he says, But February made me shiver / With every paper I d deliver. Here it is widely believe that Don McLeanis referring to the death of Buddy Holly. He is said to have been delivering newspapers on his paper route the February that he learned of Buddy Holly s death. The speaker identifies Holly by the month of his death, and the, widowed bride, (12)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He thought that the Beatles were warning America about the racial conflict happening at the time. Manson wrote the title of the song on the wall in blood after committing the murders. In the line, We all got up to dance / Oh, but we never got the chance, the writer could be speaking about how the Beatles wrote songs meant for listening and not dancing. Throughout this verse, the writer talks about, players. I believe that here he is most likely referring to the many protesters around this time. He says, sweet perfume, (57) most likely to refer to the use of tear gas against protestors. He seems to believe that the government is corrupt when he says, Cause the players tried to take the field (61). Here he means that the protestors tried to create change but the government would not allow them to make the changes. McLean continues his allusions to events happening around him and in the past, and he again ends the verse with his constantly repeated line, The day the music died. The next verse seems to focus on the events that happened at Altamont in 1969. The flower children gathered at Altamont, 300,000 strong, in a frenzy of drugs, alcohol and escalating violence (Fann). McLean is pointing out here that the ideas of the counterculture are obviously not going to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
