Mask Explanation and/or Reflection There are multiple different symbols and hidden meanings on my
mask. These symbols mainly have to do with events from the past and my current state in the present.
When one looks upon the mask, the first thing they may notice is the black line going down the
middle, separating the past from present. Another good distinction between the past and present are

They eye has a blue and yellow outline, which yield a very pleasing, bright color combination. They
eyebrow is slanted up to portray a happier, more relaxed look. The red plus represents the medical

Roy Lichtenstein became a key figure in the pop art movement in the early 1960 s. Inspired by
American advertisements and comic strips, Lichtenstein is known for his bold colors, use of familiar
images, and focus on parody. Lichtenstein avoided painting abstract canvases without a subject, and
instead, emphasized the impersonality of the stencil process that was commonly used and
recognizable in commercial art at the time. Some would argue, too recognizable.
Roy Lichtenstein was considered controversial because his critics accused him of the only thing that
can destroy you as an artist: plagiarism. Many believed that Lichtenstein s work was far too similar to

For most of human history, women have been unjustly subjugated by their male counterparts. Before
the women s rights movements of the twentieth century, many authors around the world intentionally
wrote women as one dimensional and unimportant. This can be seen in modernist novelas like Joseph
Conrad s Heart of Darkness where women are seen as an afterthought to the main character Marlow.
This sentiment greatly changed in the 20th century when women fought to alter the public s
perception of femininity. This shift can also be seen in post imperialist works of Chinua Achebe in his
novel Things Fall Apart where, even though it is set in the same time period as Heart of Darkness, the
female characters are more flushed out and realistic in their behaviors. The authors of both novels
illustrate the power men have over women during the colonial era; however, Heart of Darkness
portrays women as shallow objects for the men to use while Things Fall Apart, despite the sexist
culture of Umuofia, presents the women as complex and human. Despite being subjects of a female
monarch, Queen Victoria, the men of Heart of Darkness undermine the strength and abilities of
