Essay about Greek History
Greek History In this book, the result of my inquiries into history, I hope to...preserve the memory of
the past by putting on record the astonishing achievements both of our own and of the Asiatic
peoples.... With this mission statement Herodotus introduces his Histories, the first recorded history
text in the western world. Using fragments of the past he reconstructs a picture of the whole; the
objects of his researches included first hand accounts and tales passed down through generations,
physical remains and artifacts, and his own intelligence and creativity. Using sources such as these
(though he cites nothing), Herodotus describes the foundation of the Theran colony of Cyrene, ca. 630

The detail given in the Histories surpasses in amount that given in the degree inscription but does not
contain any overtly absurd or patently false accounts. Herodotus description remains true to what is
known about early Greek colonization: the oracular role, economic and agricultural pressures spurring
colonization, and the mysterious and dangerous nature of unexplored territories. One aspect, given in
both Herodotus and the inscription, matches evidence of the period. The Theran decree tells of Battos,
Archagetes [founder] and king leading one hundred Therans to Africa; Herodotus writes that with
Battos as their leader and king...they sent two pentekonters to [Africa], with each pentekonter
containing fifty rowers each. Herodotus says the colonists were chosen with brother drawing lots with
brother; the Theran decree relates that [o]n equal and fair terms shall they sail according to family.
The main differences between the two accounts lie not in conflicts, but in new material. The
inscription gives the rules to govern the actions of the colonists: their rights of citizenship, the results
of hardships to the colony. It also details how men could be forced to join the colonization party, and
that the consequence for disobeying the order of the mother city was death. Herodotus remains silent

Tullymayo Vs Causco
Cusco was the capital of the Inka Empire and most roads seem to lead to this spiritual, economic and
political crossroads. This was a small village enlarged by the founder of the Inka Empire, Pachakuti.
As a show of their power and to intimidate their captives and enemies, the Inka used ashlar masonry
(stone blocks carved on the top to cradle the rock stacked upon it) to build cities and villages with
fountains, temples, residential and administrative buildings. The city s shape was designed using the
three rivers, the Huatanay, the Tullymayo and the Chunchul. By diverting the Huatanay and the
Tullymayo with canals turning Cusco into a Puma s Tail ; by this division, the city became two parts,
the Hanan or Upper Section and the Hurin or Lower Section. The Inka believed in a two part system
that complimented one another without being equal. (Stone, p. 212.) ... Show more content on

people paid their tribute or taxes by contributing their time and in return, the Inka provided them with

relationships throughout the empire. (Lecture 2) Outside the Hanan, was the Saqsa Waman, a citadel

temple as well as fortress with large stone walls and gates; moreover, it may have held up to 1000

Lab Report Photosynthesis
I. Introduction
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light to synthesize food from H2O and CO2 within
the thylakoid and the stroma of the cells. In order for photosynthesis to occur, light must be present.
Light reactions occur within the thylakoids of the chloroplasts by absorbing light and H2O and
producing oxygen gas, ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate, and NADPH, or nicotinamide adenine
dinucleotide phosphate. The oxygen gas is released back into the atmosphere while ATP and NADPH
are inputs of the Calvin Cycle within the stroma. The Calvin Cycle uses these two molecules, in
addition to carbon dioxide gas, to produce ADP, or Adenosine diphosphate, NADP+, and glucose
molecules. Photosynthesis is represented by the following equation: ... Show more content on

The leaf with the highest rate of photosynthesis was the darkest leaf, the purple cabbage. The leaf with
the lowest rate of photosynthesis was the lightest leaf, the iceberg lettuce. We can conclude that the
rate of photosynthesis was much higher in the purple cabbage because darker leaves contain more
chloroplasts. Therefore, photosynthesis occurs much more quickly. Notably, these results support the
stated hypothesis. An error that might have affected the data as a whole was the fact that the calculated
rate of photosynthesis for the iceberg lettuce was negative. In addition to this, a few of the other
percentages decreased as time passed. This means that the chloroplasts would have been going
through cellular respiration. This inconsistency might have transpired from a mechanical error within
the spectrophotometer. The control tubes, the boiled and dark tubes, of all 3 leaves were necessary in
order to determine if the chloroplasts were the organelles of the cell that were causing one leaf to
photosynthesize quicker than another because it was imperative for the chloroplasts to be exposed to
light and temperatures that would not denature them. Therefore, we are able to conclude that the
chloroplasts located within the leaves were the organelles that were causing the varying rates of
photosynthesis in this

Information Storage And Management System
Introduction
With the development of technology, information storage and management have been vital of
importance. Information effectiveness and efficiency are determined by how well data is organised
and processed. The term data have been widely employed in different human activities, including
science, business, education, law and the like. Here, data is a means for representation of facts,
concepts, and instructions in order to communicate (Sumathi Esakkirajan 2007). Nevertheless, if data
management is ineffective, and relevant information cannot be found quickly, a large amount data will
become a liability rather than an asset of an organisation; thus, tools used for data management give
rise to the occurrence of database ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6). This literature review will consist of four parts. Firstly, it will briefly introduce DBMSs and review
the development of data models. Secondly, it will discuss DBMS products based on the relational data
model. Following that, DBMS products based on logical models will be illustrated. Lastly, strengths
and weaknesses between different data models will be demonstrated.
1. Overview of DBMSs and the development of data models
1.1 Overview of DBMSs
A DBMS contains four parts, the data model, the data definition language (DDL), the data
manipulation language (DML), and the data dictionary. To begin with, the data model describes how
data are logically constructed. Next, programmers use DDL to specify the types of information and
structure of the database, which is the important connection between the logical (how to perceive data)
and physical views (how data are stored and processed) of the database. Thirdly, DML is used to
manipulate the data, where end users or programmers are allowed to extract data in order to satisfy
information requests and develop applications. Manipulative verbs are included in DML, such as
modify, delete or select . In addition, the data dictionary is used for the storage of data elements and
data characteristics, including ownership, physical representation, authorization, and security
(technology guide). The use of a DBMS

Analysis Of Vito Acconci s The Red Tapes
Vito Acconci has been a part of the art world for the past sixty years creating artwork that has sparked
debate for just as long. His early projects which started with a piece titled Pryings in 1971 were videos
that pushed the boundaries between the artist and the viewer. These early video tapes would become
the foundation for Acconci s art in the future that would evolve from tapes, to photography, to
architecture, and more. Born in Bronx, New York in 1940 Acconci began his career as a poet, a skill
that would prove to be helpful later in life as he began writing books and other pieces. According to
his film, The Red Tapes which was made in 1976, Acconci s story began like many others: his mother
was alive and his father was dead; this story would continue as Acconci went on to study at the Holy
Cross College where he would receive a B.A. and at the University of Iowa where he would receive a
M.F.A. Later in life, he would open Acconci Studio which is a group of architects who take on various
projects and he would teach at various schools, however at the current moment Acconci lives in New
York where he continues to make his art. Vito Acconci and his art were influenced by the minimalist
movement, in fact Acconci often refers to minimalism as his father art , however Acconci tried to
make a clear distinction between his own art and minimalist ideals. Acconci creates a source in his art,
by including his body in the artwork the viewer clearly understands that everything

Differences Of Myths
It can be seen that every culture have historical stories associated with their origin that have been
passed from one generation to another. Some among these are classified as legends, while others are
called as myths. These stories mostly consist of a superman like character that breaks all logic and
rules of nature. According to me, History is a concern which raises a number of issues in factual way
where sources come from primary sources or objective secondary sources. History is considered as an
accurate guide to the past which is read to explain, analyze and describe the truths of the past. On the
other hand, Myths only tells about a few daily occurrences through very subjective ways. The sources
for myths come from word of mouth, imagination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myths are moral stories containing transitional experiences taking into account genuine pride and
otherworldly plunge, given to the starts entering Tribal Societies. Myths contain stories of bravery to
empower the youthful through learning to acknowledge the obligations that would characterize their
lives as grown up people. For example Myths of Hercules and Myths of Zeus. Myths gave the
youthful learning that would fill their lives with significance and reason, bringing on in them an
otherworldly quality that would never fall flat them in times of need. Myths are stories of confidence,
which open the eyes of everybody to truth and empower them, to end up who they genuinely are.
Myth is learning that holds the ability to dissipate all supernatural quality and puzzle. Supernatural
quality and Mystery were brought on by the a huge number of years of interest and intrigue submitted
by enlightened men to construct individual realms, deluding other men of the theoretical significance
of civilisation through misnomer, the task of wrong names to nonsensical ideas that make others

Sula Critical Theory Essay
Looking through a Black Feminist Critical Lens, Toni Morrison s characters in Sula resemble Mary
Helen Washington s definitions of African American female characters. Specifically, Sula, Nel, and
Eva; Sula is a Liberated Woman, Nel is a Emergent Woman, and Eva as a Suspended woman. Sula is
Morrison s main character and is a perfect example of a Liberated woman. According to Lois Tyson s
definition of a Liberated Woman, Sula has discovered her abilities, knows what she needs, and goes
about getting it. Along with all these activities, comes pride and independence. It began when Sula
was younger as she had Nel, her best friend, by her side. In the safe harbor of each other s company

Nel s character fits into an Emergent Woman as she [comes] to an awareness of her own psychological
and political oppresion... usually through a harsh experience of initiation that makes her ready for
change. On Nel s trip to meet her grandmother, Nel witnesses her mother s custard being revealed.
From then on Nel resolved to be on guard always. She wanted to make certain that no man ever
looked at her that way. That no midnight eyes of marbled flesh would accost her and turn her into jelly
(22). Ashamed of the jelly or the weak substance custard that Morrison also associates with Helene,
Nel makes certain that no man shall look at her, and make her into anything weak. In this secne, she
becomes aware of her mother s oppression and makes the decision to never allow it in her life. At the
end of their trip, Nel lays in bed thinking about the possibility of ending up like her mother. To
establish her independence separate from her mother, Nel states, I m me. I m not their daughter. I m
not Nel. I m me. Me, (28). As an Emergent woman, she demonstrates her ability to make her own
choices and establish her own

Literary Themes In The Lives Of Animals By Elizabeth Costello
The novel The Lives of Animals revolves around a novelist named Elizabeth Costello. She is an
animal rights activist and it so consumes her that she begins to be disgusted with the human race and
the way that they treat animals. She hates meat eaters and is only focused on animal rights in her old
age. Her son works at a university and while admires her work, is a bit embarrassed by it as well.
Especially when Costello is going to do a lecture on animal rights at the university he works at. Her
son s friends at the school disagree with her lecture as most of it emphasized the fact that human
reason is not a value of life and is stupid. Following the lecture, characters approach Costello with
questions regarding animal rights surrounding philosophical as well as religious aspects.
One of the main literary themes present in this novel is philosophy. Throughout the book, Costello is
questioned on many things, some regarding philosophical stances to which Costello replies: I want to
find a way of speaking to fellow human beings that will be cool rather than heated, philosophical
rather than polemical, that will bring enlightenment rather than seeking to divide us into the righteous
and the sinners, the saved and the damned, the sheep and the goats (Coetzee). Coetzee encourages
these philosophical questions and it is a recurrent theme in the novel. Another theme in the novel that
often comes up is reasoning. Costello believes that humans use reason to classify things too much and
that it is a stupid way of doing things. Throughout the novel, she teaches on the subject stating, For,
seen from the outside, from a being who is alien to it, reason is simply a vast tautology (Coetzee)
which proves that she believes animals should have rights whether they can reason or not. The final
literary theme that is often brought up is death. Costello is not afraid to be gruesome and graphic with
her word choices as she says things like, I return one last time to the places of death all around us, the
places of slaughter to which, in a huge communal effort, we close our hearts. Each day a fresh
holocaust, yet, as far as I can see, our moral being is untouched. We do not feel tainted. We can do
anything, it seems, and come

Key Features Of The Public Expenditure Structure In Cambodia
Public expenditure structure in Cambodia
Key Features of the expenditure system
The expenditure system in Cambodia has three main features. It s important to emphasize that more
information is needed to be certain about whether the following expenditure trends continue today.
First, the country has been running a deficit for a long time due to higher growth rate of expenditures
than revenues. Second, the country has dropped significantly their investment in rural development
and agriculture, which affects the country s growth because it s overwhelmingly rural. Lastly, the
transport expenditures have also decreased substantially. If the country had better transport
infrastructure, the government could raise their revenues that come from public services. Additionally,
without proper transport infrastructure there is a loss of potential tourism destinations, and reduced
competitiveness in market accessibility due to high access costs to commodities.
Budget Deficit
Cambodia budget s deficit has remained relatively flat between 2000 and 2017 (estimated). In 2000,
the deficit was 4.8% of GDP and in 2017 the deficit is estimated to be 4.5% of GDP, excluding grants.
The country s expenditures have grown at faster rate than its revenues. In the year 2000, Cambodia
expenditures represented 15% of GDP while the estimation for the year 2017 is 22% of GDP, 7
percentage points more than in 2000.

Distillation is the main separation method in chemical process industries. This process involves low
thermodynamic efficiency and high energy demand due to the heat that is added in the bottom reboiler
and thrown away in the top condenser. For this reason, to improve energy efficient distillation
systems, heat integration concept was first proposed by Brugma [1], Wright [2], Petlyuk et al.[3] and
Freshwater [4,5] almost 70 years ago. Nakaiwa et al. [6] has recently discussed these systems in an
excellent review. In another review, Amiya [7] introduced many other heat integration schemes which
have been developed so far in depth.
Heat pump systems can be used to upgrade heat from a lower quality energy source in the condenser
to a higher quality energy source in the reboiler. Heat pump assisted distillation column was first
introduced in the mid 1970s [8]. Previously, a number of studies on heat pump assisted distillation
have been reported in the literature. Omideyi et al. [9] developed a quick selection method for vapor
compression (VC) heat pump assisted distillation columns. Fonyo and Mizsey [10] simplified the
method and included vapor recompression as well as absorption heat pump scheme. Kiss et al. [11]
developed selection scheme of energy efficient technologies for binary distillation. Van de bor et al.
[12] presented a quick performance map and made selection simpler and more suitable.
The most popular heat pump systems are the mechanical ones. In these heat pumps,

social constructions like gender roles, gender binary, sex roles, and many other aspects of everyday
life that are still present at this very moment. One of the most crucial elements of contemporary

misogynistic teaching methods. A 2004 investigation by the staff of the House Government Reform

A Closer Look at The Book of Acts Essay
Acts 2:42 47 is a direct model for the Christian Church today. These verses are a clear example of
faith in action. The Holy Spirit s effect on the early church and apostles brought teaching, fellowship,
the breaking of bread and prayer into fruition. The real life love shown shouts to the 21st century
church s need to refocus on these basic tenants. This passage is a summary of the life of the early
church. The four contexts in which the modern church can draw knowledge to incorporate these heart
felt actions are historical context, literary contexts, interpretation and application. Although
technically anonymous, most biblical scholars agree that the book of Acts was written by the
physician, Luke. Luke was a traveling companion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Holy Spirit was also the Comforter of the believers. In the same year the Holy Spirit was sent to
earth in place of Jesus, the Roman Emperor, Nero was rumored to have started the fire which burned
most of Rome to the ground. Nero looked for someone to blame and decided to make his scapegoat
the Christians. He began to persecute Christians by feeding them to lions in front of thousands of
people in Rome s amphitheater which had apparently not been destroyed by the fire. Persecution was
ironically one of the causes of the early church growth in Acts chapter two. The Christians in Acts 2
totaled to 3,120 people after the sermon given by Peter at Pentecost. The 120 people are from chapter
1 verse 15 and the 3,000 were added after the sermon in chapter 2 verses 14 41. The sermon began
after the coming of the Holy Spirit and the apostles had spoken in other languages. Men mocked them
saying they were filled with new wine (2:13), or drunk. Peter stood and declared they were not drunk
and then began to preach. He told them Jesus was God s Son who was sent to earth to save them and
they had crucified him. However, God raised him up from the dead because it was impossible for him
to be held by death. The people of Jerusalem were cut to the heart (36) by Peter s words. He exhorted
them saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation (40). Three thousand people came to know

Do Not Pet! Service Dog on the Job
Walking into my final class of the day, I noticed that a fellow student is with a dog. As I got closer to
the couple, the urge to pet the animal washed over me. My hands began to itch to feel the fur on my
skin and to find the extraordinary spot behind the ear that all dogs love. However, a red vest caught
my eyes with the words SERVICE DOG and DO NOT PET that yelled at me to not go through with
my actions. Reluctantly obeying the warnings, I sat down next to the pair with an unaccomplished
mission that was put before me. Trying to ignore the desire to pet the dog, another student asked if
they could pet the dog. I heard the owner respond with, I m sorry. He s still in training. After hearing
this, I realized that we forget that these dogs are on the job to help out their owners with their medical
or mental disabilities and we, the outsiders, only see these dogs for our amusement. By defining what
is considered a service animal, what the policies are for college campuses, what these animals are

Gender, Transgender, And Queer Essay
As a nation, the United States often views itself as a champion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
and queer (LGBTQ) rights. While we are far ahead of many countries, quite a few of which still
criminalize same sex relationships, we aren t the queer utopia we like to see ourselves as. Even today,
there are many states within the US that do not have laws explicitly prohibiting discrimination based
on sexual orientation in the workplace or during the hiring process. According to the Human Rights
Campaign s website, there are currently sixteen states that have no statewide employment laws
protecting the rights of queer and/or trans individuals in the workplace. An even larger number of
states have no laws protecting LGBTQ from housing discrimination. Since same sex marriage was
legalized in June 2015, many people feel as though the fight for equal rights is over. However, what
people tend to forget about, are the dozens of macro and microaggressions queer people still face in
many cities, towns, and states throughout the country. Not only are LGBT people in the United States
still subject to discrimination in educational institutions and in hiring practices, but these
discriminatory acts are highly regionalized. In 2011, the Gay, Lesbian Straight Education Network

Threats
Some threats can adversely affect the business of Sears Holdings Corporation. The most prominent
risk faced by Sears Holding Corporation is the competition among the local, national and international
retail companies. Top three competitors of the group are J.C Penney Corporation Inc., Target
Corporation and Wal Mart Stores Inc. (Hoovers, 2011). The retail business is a cut throat competition.
The market players have a multitude of companies across various states and around the globe.
Moreover, many companies are merging and becoming large entities. If any merger of the magnitude

Sear s revenue growth will likely be affected. The housing market crisis, as well as the increased food
and utility prices, change the buying power of the people by leaving the consumers with less
disposable income. At that point, the lowest pay permitted by law rate set by the US government has
expanded the work expenses of the organizations worked in the United States which has, thus,

Personal Auto Insurance
Having an auto insurance coverage will help you protect whenever you figure in a car accident or

using your car.
Auto insurance coverage is excluded from most homeowners forms thus auto insurance must be
covered separately and it is called a personal auto policy. Since the personal auto policy contains
property and liability auto insurance coverage, it is considered a package policy. The auto insurance

All throughout my years of elementary school, many people would pick on me and boast about their

much white in the iris, for one thing, and the pupils seemed to move around in the sockets without his

the narrator at this point bases a lot of his perception on what he sees, and he has trouble with opening

brown shoes, a light brown shirt, a tie, a sports coat. Spiffy. He also had this full beard. But he didn t

Fact was, I wished he had a pair. At first glance, his eyes looked like anyone else s eyes. (Carver,

Robert seems to have no signs of trouble managing to navigate the food on his plate. The blind man
had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with
admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat. He d cut two pieces of meat, fork the meat into
his mouth, and then go all out for the scalloped potatoes, the beans next, and then he d tear off a hunk
of buttered bread and eat that. He d follow this up with a big drink of milk. It didn t seem to bother
him to use his fingers once in a while, either. (Carver, 2013). After dinner the narrator, his wife and

Freedom Of African American Freedom
The fight for freedom is like drowning. Some people have been under the water for so long they are
no longer conscious of their surroundings. Others try to resurface. Once we do resurface, we must
never stop swimming or we will be dragged back under the dark, devastating water. The freedom we
create for ourselves may change our lives, but there is always room for improvement in this ever
changing world. In order to make the best for ourselves and our families, we need to liberate ourselves
from these forces repeatedly as the pressure the controlling forces put on us becomes too much.
Throughout history, different groups of people have been mistreated due to stereotypes. One minority
group is the African American population in our country. For hundreds of years, America has limited
the freedom of African Americans.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, African Americans were made slaves, because the
Caucasian people who lived here thought of them as less of people than they were. In the Three Fifths
Compromise , when deciding how many representatives should be for each state, they decided slaves
were counted as three fifths of a person, an extremely insulting fraction. African American slaves
suffered for centuries enduring hard labor and abuse in return for no money. This treatment was
unbearable and some decided to try to escape. Using the Underground Railroad, a system of safe
houses for slaves escaping the dangerous south to come to the north, people such as

have been able to create their own governments and were recognized by the American government.
The Indians had every reason not to trust Americans after all they went through being constantly
pushed off their land. They were always seen as two separate groups and Americans have treated the
Indians as less than them until recently. The government began to see that the way the Indians were
treated was wrong and should have never been forced to move. There was never an official apology
for the Indian Removal Act and treatment until 2009, when President Barack Obama signed the Native

Herbert Bayer Research Paper
Haag, Austria. April 5th, 1900 Herbert Bayer is born to Rosa Simmer Bayer and Maximilian Bayer.
Although the village that he was raised in was mainly filled with peasants, his mother and her family
owned a local hotel, known as the Gasthaus and Herbert s father was a tax collector in the area. Being
the second son of four total children meant that a young Herbert Bayer was shy and withheld.
Although the relationship between parent and son was somewhat distant, his mother and father
supported his early interests in design, which included frequently drawing the surrounding landscape
around where the Bayer family lived. Twelve years after Herbert was born, his family moved from
Haag to Linz where he was able to attend the Gymnasium.
Once he finished his educational studies, Herbert had planned to move and study in Vienna, which
ended up being put aside as his father unexpectedly passed away in 1917. With no money for travel or

Question 1 Question 2
The first use of the triads was in 1817, when Johann Dobereiner observed that elements could be
placed in groups of three based on their properties. When the three elements were ordered according
to atomic weight, the smallest weight would have the least significant reaction or mildest property,
whilst the heaviest would have the most significant or strongest property. Further, the atomic weight of
the middle element would be almost exactly the average of the two other elements. These properties
were considered too coincidental not to be of some significance. One of the first triads to be observed
was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When ordered with atomic number there are only a few instances where the atomic masses do not
ascend which would have resulted in the two elements being switched in the original order of
elements when atomic weight was used. These errors are pairs where the second of the pair is placed
first when ordered with atomic weight; three of which are argon and potassium, cobalt and nickel,
tellurium and iodine.
The Law of Triads began to direct chemists towards the patterns found in lists or tables of elements.
Many chemists began exploring patterns but it wasn t until 1864 that the next step was made. John
Newlands realised that when ordered by atomic weight a regular pattern of properties formed. He
noted that elements seemed to fall into patterns of eight whereby every eighth element would have the
same properties. This was not entirely true however as Newlands saw this pattern and was reminded
of a musical scale s eight note repetition. Nevertheless, the recognition of this in fact deterred
Newlands from making further inferences as he continued to attempt to force elements into this
musical scale like format which was not entirely applicable.
Furthermore, the noble gases had yet to be discovered when Newlands Law of Octaves was formed.
This meant that the pattern didn t account for an extra element in the patterns of eight. As can be seen
on the right, noble gases are not included and had they been, they would be placed in

  • 2. Essay about Greek History Greek History In this book, the result of my inquiries into history, I hope to...preserve the memory of the past by putting on record the astonishing achievements both of our own and of the Asiatic peoples.... With this mission statement Herodotus introduces his Histories, the first recorded history text in the western world. Using fragments of the past he reconstructs a picture of the whole; the objects of his researches included first hand accounts and tales passed down through generations, physical remains and artifacts, and his own intelligence and creativity. Using sources such as these (though he cites nothing), Herodotus describes the foundation of the Theran colony of Cyrene, ca. 630 B.C.E.. In compiling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The detail given in the Histories surpasses in amount that given in the degree inscription but does not contain any overtly absurd or patently false accounts. Herodotus description remains true to what is known about early Greek colonization: the oracular role, economic and agricultural pressures spurring colonization, and the mysterious and dangerous nature of unexplored territories. One aspect, given in both Herodotus and the inscription, matches evidence of the period. The Theran decree tells of Battos, Archagetes [founder] and king leading one hundred Therans to Africa; Herodotus writes that with Battos as their leader and king...they sent two pentekonters to [Africa], with each pentekonter containing fifty rowers each. Herodotus says the colonists were chosen with brother drawing lots with brother; the Theran decree relates that [o]n equal and fair terms shall they sail according to family. The main differences between the two accounts lie not in conflicts, but in new material. The inscription gives the rules to govern the actions of the colonists: their rights of citizenship, the results of hardships to the colony. It also details how men could be forced to join the colonization party, and that the consequence for disobeying the order of the mother city was death. Herodotus remains silent on ... • 3. Tullymayo Vs Causco Cusco was the capital of the Inka Empire and most roads seem to lead to this spiritual, economic and political crossroads. This was a small village enlarged by the founder of the Inka Empire, Pachakuti. As a show of their power and to intimidate their captives and enemies, the Inka used ashlar masonry (stone blocks carved on the top to cradle the rock stacked upon it) to build cities and villages with fountains, temples, residential and administrative buildings. The city s shape was designed using the three rivers, the Huatanay, the Tullymayo and the Chunchul. By diverting the Huatanay and the Tullymayo with canals turning Cusco into a Puma s Tail ; by this division, the city became two parts, the Hanan or Upper Section and the Hurin or Lower Section. The Inka believed in a two part system that complimented one another without being equal. (Stone, p. 212.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Inka organized a massive labor force from those conquered, making these mit a laborers. The people paid their tribute or taxes by contributing their time and in return, the Inka provided them with food, housing, and other goods; ruled more with administration than force; this allowed for verticality relationships throughout the empire. (Lecture 2) Outside the Hanan, was the Saqsa Waman, a citadel or defensive building at the top of Cusco. Renovated and enlarged by the Inka, it became a fortified temple as well as fortress with large stone walls and gates; moreover, it may have held up to 1000 warriors at the height of the Inka Empire and (Stone, p. 212.) many of the limestone blocks are up to 16 feet tall. • 4. Lab Report Photosynthesis I. Introduction Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light to synthesize food from H2O and CO2 within the thylakoid and the stroma of the cells. In order for photosynthesis to occur, light must be present. Light reactions occur within the thylakoids of the chloroplasts by absorbing light and H2O and producing oxygen gas, ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate, and NADPH, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate. The oxygen gas is released back into the atmosphere while ATP and NADPH are inputs of the Calvin Cycle within the stroma. The Calvin Cycle uses these two molecules, in addition to carbon dioxide gas, to produce ADP, or Adenosine diphosphate, NADP+, and glucose molecules. Photosynthesis is represented by the following equation: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leaf with the highest rate of photosynthesis was the darkest leaf, the purple cabbage. The leaf with the lowest rate of photosynthesis was the lightest leaf, the iceberg lettuce. We can conclude that the rate of photosynthesis was much higher in the purple cabbage because darker leaves contain more chloroplasts. Therefore, photosynthesis occurs much more quickly. Notably, these results support the stated hypothesis. An error that might have affected the data as a whole was the fact that the calculated rate of photosynthesis for the iceberg lettuce was negative. In addition to this, a few of the other percentages decreased as time passed. This means that the chloroplasts would have been going through cellular respiration. This inconsistency might have transpired from a mechanical error within the spectrophotometer. The control tubes, the boiled and dark tubes, of all 3 leaves were necessary in order to determine if the chloroplasts were the organelles of the cell that were causing one leaf to photosynthesize quicker than another because it was imperative for the chloroplasts to be exposed to light and temperatures that would not denature them. Therefore, we are able to conclude that the chloroplasts located within the leaves were the organelles that were causing the varying rates of photosynthesis in this ... • 5. Information Storage And Management System Introduction With the development of technology, information storage and management have been vital of importance. Information effectiveness and efficiency are determined by how well data is organised and processed. The term data have been widely employed in different human activities, including science, business, education, law and the like. Here, data is a means for representation of facts, concepts, and instructions in order to communicate (Sumathi Esakkirajan 2007). Nevertheless, if data management is ineffective, and relevant information cannot be found quickly, a large amount data will become a liability rather than an asset of an organisation; thus, tools used for data management give rise to the occurrence of database ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 6). This literature review will consist of four parts. Firstly, it will briefly introduce DBMSs and review the development of data models. Secondly, it will discuss DBMS products based on the relational data model. Following that, DBMS products based on logical models will be illustrated. Lastly, strengths and weaknesses between different data models will be demonstrated. 1. Overview of DBMSs and the development of data models 1.1 Overview of DBMSs A DBMS contains four parts, the data model, the data definition language (DDL), the data manipulation language (DML), and the data dictionary. To begin with, the data model describes how data are logically constructed. Next, programmers use DDL to specify the types of information and structure of the database, which is the important connection between the logical (how to perceive data) and physical views (how data are stored and processed) of the database. Thirdly, DML is used to manipulate the data, where end users or programmers are allowed to extract data in order to satisfy information requests and develop applications. Manipulative verbs are included in DML, such as modify, delete or select . In addition, the data dictionary is used for the storage of data elements and data characteristics, including ownership, physical representation, authorization, and security (technology guide). The use of a DBMS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Vito Acconci s The Red Tapes Vito Acconci has been a part of the art world for the past sixty years creating artwork that has sparked debate for just as long. His early projects which started with a piece titled Pryings in 1971 were videos that pushed the boundaries between the artist and the viewer. These early video tapes would become the foundation for Acconci s art in the future that would evolve from tapes, to photography, to architecture, and more. Born in Bronx, New York in 1940 Acconci began his career as a poet, a skill that would prove to be helpful later in life as he began writing books and other pieces. According to his film, The Red Tapes which was made in 1976, Acconci s story began like many others: his mother was alive and his father was dead; this story would continue as Acconci went on to study at the Holy Cross College where he would receive a B.A. and at the University of Iowa where he would receive a M.F.A. Later in life, he would open Acconci Studio which is a group of architects who take on various projects and he would teach at various schools, however at the current moment Acconci lives in New York where he continues to make his art. Vito Acconci and his art were influenced by the minimalist movement, in fact Acconci often refers to minimalism as his father art , however Acconci tried to make a clear distinction between his own art and minimalist ideals. Acconci creates a source in his art, by including his body in the artwork the viewer clearly understands that everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Differences Of Myths It can be seen that every culture have historical stories associated with their origin that have been passed from one generation to another. Some among these are classified as legends, while others are called as myths. These stories mostly consist of a superman like character that breaks all logic and rules of nature. According to me, History is a concern which raises a number of issues in factual way where sources come from primary sources or objective secondary sources. History is considered as an accurate guide to the past which is read to explain, analyze and describe the truths of the past. On the other hand, Myths only tells about a few daily occurrences through very subjective ways. The sources for myths come from word of mouth, imagination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Myths are moral stories containing transitional experiences taking into account genuine pride and otherworldly plunge, given to the starts entering Tribal Societies. Myths contain stories of bravery to empower the youthful through learning to acknowledge the obligations that would characterize their lives as grown up people. For example Myths of Hercules and Myths of Zeus. Myths gave the youthful learning that would fill their lives with significance and reason, bringing on in them an otherworldly quality that would never fall flat them in times of need. Myths are stories of confidence, which open the eyes of everybody to truth and empower them, to end up who they genuinely are. Sula Critical Theory Essay Looking through a Black Feminist Critical Lens, Toni Morrison s characters in Sula resemble Mary Helen Washington s definitions of African American female characters. According to Lois Tyson s definition of a Liberated Woman, Sula has discovered her abilities, knows what she needs, and goes about getting it. • 9. Literary Themes In The Lives Of Animals By Elizabeth Costello The novel The Lives of Animals revolves around a novelist named Elizabeth Costello. She is an animal rights activist and it so consumes her that she begins to be disgusted with the human race and the way that they treat animals. She hates meat eaters and is only focused on animal rights in her old age. Her son works at a university and while admires her work, is a bit embarrassed by it as well. Especially when Costello is going to do a lecture on animal rights at the university he works at. Her son s friends at the school disagree with her lecture as most of it emphasized the fact that human reason is not a value of life and is stupid. Following the lecture, characters approach Costello with questions regarding animal rights surrounding philosophical as well as religious aspects. One of the main literary themes present in this novel is philosophy. Throughout the book, Costello is questioned on many things, some regarding philosophical stances to which Costello replies: I want to find a way of speaking to fellow human beings that will be cool rather than heated, philosophical rather than polemical, that will bring enlightenment rather than seeking to divide us into the righteous and the sinners, the saved and the damned, the sheep and the goats (Coetzee). Coetzee encourages these philosophical questions and it is a recurrent theme in the novel. Another theme in the novel that often comes up is reasoning. Costello believes that humans use reason to classify things too much and that it is a stupid way of doing things. Throughout the novel, she teaches on the subject stating, For, seen from the outside, from a being who is alien to it, reason is simply a vast tautology (Coetzee) which proves that she believes animals should have rights whether they can reason or not. The final literary theme that is often brought up is death. Costello is not afraid to be gruesome and graphic with her word choices as she says things like, I return one last time to the places of death all around us, the places of slaughter to which, in a huge communal effort, we close our hearts. Each day a fresh holocaust, yet, as far as I can see, our moral being is untouched. We do not feel tainted. We can do anything, it seems, and come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Key Features Of The Public Expenditure Structure In Cambodia Public expenditure structure in Cambodia Key Features of the expenditure system The expenditure system in Cambodia has three main features. It s important to emphasize that more information is needed to be certain about whether the following expenditure trends continue today. First, the country has been running a deficit for a long time due to higher growth rate of expenditures than revenues. Second, the country has dropped significantly their investment in rural development and agriculture, which affects the country s growth because it s overwhelmingly rural. Lastly, the transport expenditures have also decreased substantially. If the country had better transport infrastructure, the government could raise their revenues that come from public services. Additionally, without proper transport infrastructure there is a loss of potential tourism destinations, and reduced competitiveness in market accessibility due to high access costs to commodities. Budget Deficit Cambodia budget s deficit has remained relatively flat between 2000 and 2017 (estimated). In 2000, the deficit was 4.8% of GDP and in 2017 the deficit is estimated to be 4.5% of GDP, excluding grants. The country s expenditures have grown at faster rate than its revenues. In the year 2000, Cambodia expenditures represented 15% of GDP while the estimation for the year 2017 is 22% of GDP, 7 percentage points more than in 2000. This process involves low thermodynamic efficiency and high energy demand due to the heat that is added in the bottom reboiler and thrown away in the top condenser. For this reason, to improve energy efficient distillation systems, heat integration concept was first proposed by Brugma [1], Wright [2], Petlyuk et al.[3] and Freshwater [4,5] almost 70 years ago. Nakaiwa et al. [6] has recently discussed these systems in an excellent review. In another review, Amiya [7] introduced many other heat integration schemes which have been developed so far in depth. Heat pump systems can be used to upgrade heat from a lower quality energy source in the condenser to a higher quality energy source in the reboiler. Heat pump assisted distillation column was first introduced in the mid 1970s [8]. Previously, a number of studies on heat pump assisted distillation have been reported in the literature. Omideyi et al. [9] developed a quick selection method for vapor compression (VC) heat pump assisted distillation columns. Fonyo and Mizsey [10] simplified the method and included vapor recompression as well as absorption heat pump scheme. Kiss et al. He began to persecute Christians by feeding them to lions in front of thousands of people in Rome s amphitheater which had apparently not been destroyed by the fire. Persecution was ironically one of the causes of the early church growth in Acts chapter two. The Christians in Acts 2 totaled to 3,120 people after the sermon given by Peter at Pentecost. Too much white in the iris, for one thing, and the pupils seemed to move around in the sockets without his knowing it or being able to stop it. Creepy. (Carver, 2013). Based on this quote we can really see, that the narrator at this point bases a lot of his perception on what he sees, and he has trouble with opening his mind. Robert on the other hand, is not at all what the narrator expects He wore brown slacks, brown shoes, a light brown shirt, a tie, a sports coat. Spiffy. He also had this full beard. But he didn t use a cane and he didn t wear dark glasses. I d always thought dark glasses were a must for the blind. Fact was, I wished he had a pair. At first glance, his eyes looked like anyone else s eyes. (Carver, 2013). As the narrator, his wife, and Robert sit down for dinner, the narrator is mentally in awe of how Robert seems to have no signs of trouble managing to navigate the food on his plate. The blind man had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat. He d cut two pieces of meat, fork the meat into his mouth, and then go all out for the scalloped potatoes, the beans next, and then he d tear off a hunk of buttered bread and eat that. He d follow this up with a big drink of milk. It didn t seem to bother him to use his fingers once in a while, either. (Carver, 2013). • 33. Freedom Of African American Freedom The fight for freedom is like drowning. Some people have been under the water for so long they are no longer conscious of their surroundings. Others try to resurface. Once we do resurface, we must never stop swimming or we will be dragged back under the dark, devastating water. The freedom we create for ourselves may change our lives, but there is always room for improvement in this ever changing world. In order to make the best for ourselves and our families, we need to liberate ourselves from these forces repeatedly as the pressure the controlling forces put on us becomes too much. Throughout history, different groups of people have been mistreated due to stereotypes. One minority group is the African American population in our country. For hundreds of years, America has limited the freedom of African Americans. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, African Americans were made slaves, because the Caucasian people who lived here thought of them as less of people than they were. In the Three Fifths Compromise , when deciding how many representatives should be for each state, they decided slaves were counted as three fifths of a person, an extremely insulting fraction. African American slaves suffered for centuries enduring hard labor and abuse in return for no money. This treatment was unbearable and some decided to try to escape. Using the Underground Railroad, a system of safe houses for slaves escaping the dangerous south to come to the north, people such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the years, they have been able to create their own governments and were recognized by the American government. The Indians had every reason not to trust Americans after all they went through being constantly pushed off their land. They were always seen as two separate groups and Americans have treated the Indians as less than them until recently. The government began to see that the way the Indians were treated was wrong and should have never been forced to move. Although the village that he was raised in was mainly filled with peasants, his mother and her family owned a local hotel, known as the Gasthaus and Herbert s father was a tax collector in the area. Being the second son of four total children meant that a young Herbert Bayer was shy and withheld. Although the relationship between parent and son was somewhat distant, his mother and father supported his early interests in design, which included frequently drawing the surrounding landscape around where the Bayer family lived. Twelve years after Herbert was born, his family moved from Haag to Linz where he was able to attend the Gymnasium. Once he finished his educational studies, Herbert had planned to move and study in Vienna, which ended up being put aside as his father unexpectedly passed away in 1917. With no money for travel or education, he found himself serving for 18 months in the Fourteenth Infantry Regiment of the Imperial Austrian Army. Once this period was ... • 36. The Atomic Weight Of The Middle North Sydney Girls High Preliminary Course Chemistry Assessment Task 1 Research Task Rachel Stock 11CH5 Question 1 Question 2 The first use of the triads was in 1817, when Johann Dobereiner observed that elements could be placed in groups of three based on their properties. When the three elements were ordered according to atomic weight, the smallest weight would have the least significant reaction or mildest property, whilst the heaviest would have the most significant or strongest property. Further, the atomic weight of the middle element would be almost exactly the average of the two other elements. These properties were considered too coincidental not to be of some significance. One of the first triads to be observed was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When ordered with atomic number there are only a few instances where the atomic masses do not ascend which would have resulted in the two elements being switched in the original order of elements when atomic weight was used. These errors are pairs where the second of the pair is placed first when ordered with atomic weight; three of which are argon and potassium, cobalt and nickel, tellurium and iodine. The Law of Triads began to direct chemists towards the patterns found in lists or tables of elements. Many chemists began exploring patterns but it wasn t until 1864 that the next step was made. John Newlands realised that when ordered by atomic weight a regular pattern of properties formed. He noted that elements seemed to fall into patterns of eight whereby every eighth element would have the same properties. This was not entirely true however as Newlands saw this pattern and was reminded of a musical scale s eight note repetition. Nevertheless, the recognition of this in fact deterred Newlands from making further inferences as he continued to attempt to force elements into this musical scale like format which was not entirely applicable. Furthermore, the noble gases had yet to be discovered when Newlands Law of Octaves was formed. This meant that the pattern didn t account for an extra element in the patterns of eight. As can be seen on the right, noble gases are not included and had they been, they would be placed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
