The Pros And Cons Of Online Gambling
The Nevada legislature, the act that legalized gambling at the local level, came into place in 1931.
Since then, casino gambling has always been a major industry in the United States. Since its advent,
casino gambling has dominated the reputation and nightlife of several cities and towns across the US,
with Nevada and New Jersey being the most affected. For the better part of five decades, Nevada s
role in playing the host to Sin City has gone mainly uncontested until New Jersey decided to throw its
hat into the ring.
Though Las Vegas, Reno, and Atlantic City are still the largest and most popular casino and gambling
destinations in the US and perhaps, the world states such as Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, Louisiana,
Philadelphia, and Connecticut also have a thriving gambling and casino industry. Some of the fastest
growing casino and gambling vacation destinations include St Louis, Pennsylvania, Detroit, Chicago,
Tunica, Shreveport, and Biloxi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it s not officially legal to play online poker and other casino games (yet), the laws appear to be
a giant grey area, and as a result, there are more people going online to gamble than ever before.
Online gambling is only legal in three states in reality. The three states that have legalized online
gambling are Delaware, the latest to do so in 2012, Nevada, and New Jersey.
The first state to pass a clear bill that legalized online slots, casino, and poker games was Nevada, and
that was in 2010. New Jersey followed suit a couple of years later. There is an ongoing wave of the
legalization of online gambling. States such as California, New York, and Pennsylvania are on the
verge of passing bills that seek to legalize online gambling. The prevalence of smartphones and other
mobile devices with internet access has greatly contributed to the ubiquity of online

Langston Hughes: Research Paper
My favorite author is James Mercer Langston Hughes. Hughes was born on February 1, 1902, in
Joplin Missouri. He was the second child of school teacher Carrie Mercer and James Hughes. He grew
up in many Midwestern small towns. His occupation consisted of being a poet, columnist, dramatist,
essayist, and novelist. He was one of the earliest innovators of the new literary art form, and a leader
of the Harlem Renaissance in New York City. Like many African Americans, Hughes has complex
ancestry. Both of Hughes parental great grandmothers and grandfathers were enslaved African
Americans from white slave owners in Kentucky.

The Importance Of Planning For Disaster Response And How...
1) Describe the focus of the article and its relevance to project management.
From a high level the focus of the article was the importance of planning for disaster response and
how the lack of planning can have a serious negative impact on the effectiveness of providing relief to
those in need. All of the information is relevant to project management in that providing disaster relief
is a project much like any other project. The main differences are that it is more complex, requires
immediate action, and is less tolerant of mistakes (scope change). The author points out that Effective
planning helps any project, but in disaster relief efforts, it can make the difference between life and
death, normality and chaos. (1)
The importance of staying focused and not trying to be all things to all people is discussed as well as
ensuring that aid givers stick with their core competencies and know when to disengage. A
contributor, Myles Fish of International Aid is quoted as saying If there is not a predetermined
contribution and consummation, then you will end up taking on every need, which is far too taxing on
any organization and presents a situation where the entire effort never has an end (2)
Other areas mentioned include the importance of communication at all levels and between all relief
agencies. Myles Fish also says this about communication High level communication is imperative in
coordinating with other community partners to identify gaps in services and to

Company Background: Takata Corporation, founded in 1933 in Shiga Prefecture, Japan as a textile
manufacturer using weaving technology to manufacture lifelines. Piqued by American research on
adding safety belts to cars, Takata began doing their own research in 1952 using parachute technology
to manufacturer seat belts. In 1973 Takata began to voluntarily participate in the U.S. National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. Takata was the only company out of six
other companies to clear the 32.3 mph crash standard. It was in 1979 that Takata began to research air
bags and begin developing child restraint systems. By 1983 Takata was supplying 800 air bags to
various U.S. institutions and in 1988 established Highland Industries ... Show more content on

Since air bags are a standardized component within the final product, the slightest defect can wind up
affecting millions of vehicles. As safety is Takata s motto they should have better quality systems in
place that would minimize the number of defective standardized products given the sheer volume
produced. Takata ought to have taken a more diligent approach to the defects and addressed the public
s safety concerns sooner than six years after a death occurred as a result of their product. Furthermore,
Takata cited driver safety as the reason for its controversial refusal to comply with federal regulators
who want a national recall of its airbags. I believe that Takata was not prepared for a full scale recall
so they decided to pursue a more hands off approach which was truly not in their best interest.
Because Takata prolonged the recall investigation, they were faced with several penalties, fines and
fees and as a result of their lack of effort to correct the problem, company shares have fallen and
Takata is reporting a net loss. There is also the potential for Takata to lose some of their customers;
however, it is important to note that Takata is only one of three companies producing air bags. Due to
the minimal choices automakers have for suppliers with regards to air bags, it reasons that Takata
might not be concerned with their position in the supply chain as the automakers would not favor a
duopoly. It truly

Dear Ryan, I have been on an incredible journey and I now am in the celestial city. It was not easy I

Writing Against Death in The Floating Opera Essay
Writing Against Death in The Floating Opera
In the opening chapter of The Floating Opera, Todd Andrews makes an observation that storytelling is
not his cup of tea, because digressions are impossible to contain, and that makes it hard for him to
concentrate on a particular line of narration; every image he creates breeds other images, words bring
about other words, there being no end to new figures and new chases (Barth 2). This remark suggests
that Todd s existence is, indeed, confined to the reality he forges by telling his tale; this fictitious
reality regenerates itself. The tone of the passage also implies that Todd enjoys not a little the
unprecedented freedom this realm allows to digress at will, chasing the ... Show more content on

As Dennis Martin points out, their is a question how conscious Todd is of the distinction between
history and the invented past (31). Todd s reference to his reading may well validate the argument that
a good deal of the story, if not all of it, is pure fiction.
Todd s motives for creating his tale are directly related to the relationship between fact and artifact in
his writing in his life. He is unreliable as a narrator not only because the facts of his story are suspect;
he would fictionalize any event. Todd s mind is purely aesthetic; according to Thomas LeClair, life to
him is a fiction to be created (719). It is most noteworthy that even in extreme situations (losing his
virginity, if it may be regarded as such, or fighting in the front line in World War I), when reality is
brutally tangible, Todd Andrews is still able to observe himself objectively, maintain the detachment
which is so essential to a writer. In other words, it is not the fact of his experience that is important to
him, but rather the artifact (LeClair 720): his mind is not as much into the situations he goes through,
but is rather set on his account of them.
But why does Todd Andrews embrace aesthetization of life? A clue to that could be the the argument
of Charles Harris, who brings up the the mind body split in Todd Andrews the phenomenon, as he

Gender Inequality In Society
Gender inequality remains a major barrier between humans. Women have made major strides in
promoting equality as a whole, but have a long way to go. Gender roles are a set of societal norms
dictating the types of behaviors which are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable
for people based on their actual or perceived sex or sexuality. The concept of gender roles is based on
certain male and female stereotypes, which has been constructed through history. In American society,
the norm for gender roles distinguishes between masculine and feminine behaviors, attitudes, and
activities. In today s culture people want to promote the concept of egalitarianism, which can value
equality but promote and put certain emphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to understand why gender inequality is present within society, we must first understand how
gender became a category for human beings to be classified. Eric Wolf (1923 1999) describes culture
as a self generating and self propelling mental apparatus of norms and rules for behavior . Culture
involves habits and symbols, which produce ideas that allow individuals to separate or unite
themselves. The 19th century model of unilineal evolution emerges through the theories of various
anthropologists. This model seeks to critique societies and cultures through a teleology that moves
from primitive to civilized societies. Through this model, we see ideas formulated by James Ferguson
(1959 present) and Edward Tylor (1832 1917). Ferguson states there are no higher or lowers societies,
however, Tylor views civilization as higher and lower forms through the use of culture. He holds to
the idea that civilization and culture are identical. There are not different civilizations, just different
amounts of culture within a society. Charles Darwin (1809 1882) enforced the ideology that women
are biologically inferior to men. This was thought largely due to the idea that men must prove
themselves physically and intellectually against other men in competition for women. Whereas,
women must be superior to a man largely in the case of physical attraction. Franz Boas (1858 1942)
challenged unilineal evolution and argued that Darwin s work wasn t teleological. In the

Have you ever had an extraordinary desire for something, only to have someone tell you it is out of
your reach? Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X s essay, In the
basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to
maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it
is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack
of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career,
although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a
controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for
college. I believe that college isn t for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that
everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs.
My whole life I have heard that college isn t something you think about doing it is simply something
everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X s
article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that
college requires. The author states, Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can in fact, most can

U.s. Labor Policy Proposal Essay
Labor Policy Proposal
Presented by
Institution
Introduction Many people have no idea of what they expect to achieve after retirement when asked
about their retirement plans. The government s policies about retirement do not cater for the well
being of retirees creating a lot of worry for the life after employment. The increasing number of
employees demanding cover by government pension programs and the current decline in the
retirement income levels contributes to the change of the American pension landscape (Heiland and
Li, 2012). The United States of America developed labor laws during the time when the country s
economy was independent and self contained. The main aim of U.S. labor policy was to get rid of
different challenges affecting employees and improve their lifestyle in order to enjoy working in a
suitable environment. Additionally, the labor policy aimed at protecting American workers by law and
protecting certain human rights. According to Dugas (2013), despite the growing economy in U.S.
more than 28 percent of American workers lack confidence with the current labor policy on
retirement. The research conducted by the Employment Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) in 2013
revealed that most workers are not sure of saving money for retirement. The above information calls
upon a recommendation of labor policy about retirement that would fulfill the demands of workers.
The proposed policy will bring change to the Public Employees Retirement Fund

Nuclear Essay
The UK civil nuclear power industry initially started in 1946 followed by the establishment of one of
the world s first nuclear power plant in 1956 [23 24]. This commercial scale reactor was built in
southwest Scotland and given a name MAGNOX due to the fuel cladding (magnesium non oxidising
alloy) used to contain the fuels. The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uranium metal fuel to generate
thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within the core. Two
types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA) and Pile Grade B
(PGB). The former is used as a neutron moderator due to its high density and lower neutron
absorption, whereas the latter is mostly used as a reflector [23]. ... Show more content on

Currently, there are fifteen operating reactors in the UK with a combined total output around 8883

UK. The remaining two reactors (including the one under construction) are based on PWR design.
AGRs are the second generation of the UK nuclear power plants, and initially designed to improve the
steam cycle efficiency of the early reactor design (MAGNOX). This type of reactors exists only in the
UK and operated by EDF Energy (formerly British Energy). Since the AGRs first operation in 1976
they have become the UK s most dominant reactor after showing an increased economic benefits and
steam cycle efficiency approximately 42% compared with MAGNOX reactor, which has
approximately 31% efficiency [25]. AGRs are capable of producing peak fuel temperature
approximately 800 °C and the coolant gas temperature approximately 650 °C at 40 bars. The steam
generated by the AGRs can reach up to 540 °C at 165 bar, which is capable of driving the standard

Nigerian Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Nigerian Culture vs. American Culture
There are vast contrasts between the cultures of Nigerians and Americans, but there are similarities
among the two as well. Distinguishing the attributes that make up both countries can instill a
knowledge in both peoples and give a new sense of appreciation for the diverse cultures. The
differences and comparisons may come as a surprise for some. Some of the major differences lie
within the styles of communication in the two countries, but if studied thoroughly similarities in
communication methods can be found.
The official language of Nigeria is English, as in The United States. This is the main likeness in the
communication methods of these two countries. Although most Nigerians do speak English, being

between Nigerian and American culture is food.

Throughout the novel Woman at Point Zero, written by Nawal El Saadawi, the theme of value and
ranking is commonly talked about. The reputation that the main character, Firdaus, builds for herself is
a reputation that holds a lot of power. That reputation was broken after Firdaus meeting with a prince,
after she confessed that she had killed a man earlier that night. The author uses imagery and word

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the process of natural selection through a simulation
involving competition of various preys and predators. In order to simulate natural selection,
experimenters became predators and acted as a species of fork, spoon, knife, or fingers. Beans of four
different phenotypes (white, green, black, and red) represented the prey. The predators hunted prey for

Monarch Butterfly Research Paper
When people think of a monarch butterfly they think of a small creature with wings and antennae. But
monarch butterflies are way more than that. They have beautiful colors, they go through
metamorphosis to become the beautiful butterflies they are, and they travel across the country. This is
why I believe monarch butterflies are amazing creatures.
How they become a monarch Monarchs are amazing creatures because they go threw the process of
metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the transformation of an immature form (caterpillar) into an adult
form or adult stage (butterfly). The Monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed which is the plant they eat.

Larvae have three distinct body parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. Their head is equipped with a
pair of antennae, an upper lip, mandibles, a lower lip, and six simple eyes called ocelli. Even with

help them guide them because of their poor sight. The antennae are also helpful for eating. This is
because the antennae help guide the food into the butterflies jaws. During the larvae, pupa, or
caterpillar stage the butterflies only live on Milkweed plants. The Milkweed plants glycogen toxins
which don t have any effect on the Monarchs, but this plant is poisonous to the Monarchs predators.

Melancholia In Orestes Research Paper
Ancient Greece, depression was referred to as melancholia. Melancholia was portrayed in Orestes,
______. In a vase from 400 BC, Orestes is drawn having a ceremony to get rid of vengeful spirits that
would not leave him alone since his mother was killed. In the book Orestes by Euripides, Orestes is
depicted as a helpless, exhausted and motivationless person who barely ever wanted to eat but was
constantly crying and sleeping. Jason the Argonaut is another Greek work that has to do with
melancholia. Jason is described as a hero who is always in action trying to resolve problems.
However, he becomes a helpless and bad tempered person when his ship is wrecked on the coast of
Libya. In the 4th century BC however, melancholia began to be viewed as an illness in Greek
scientific work. For example, the physician Hippocrates wrote that melancholia was a depressive
temperament that resulted when bodily humors or fluids were not balanced. According to Hippocrates,
the body was composed of blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm. When someone became ill, it
was thought that there was an excess amount of a substances. At the time, Hippocrates, as well as

Why Huckleberry Finn Should Not Be Banned
I would like to bring up the situation on banning books. In our 8th grade Language Arts class we have
been assigned a project to read a banned or challenged book and determine whether or not the we
think that our book should be approved or banned. I chose the book The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn and discovered almost immediately why this book was banned.
Over the years since has been published, many have been tried to ban this book but their attempts have
never succeeded . Many of this book s readers think that this book is racist and contains inappropriate
language. In fact most of the time this book has been out it has either been banned or challenged since
it was first published in 1885.

Snow Falling On Cedars
In order for a human being to achieve true enlightenment, they must strive towards blissful ignorance.
David Guterson s, Snow Falling on Cedars involves protagonist Hatsue Imada, and her spouse Kabuo
Miyamoto. Kabuo, a World War two veteran, is trialled in court, the guilt weighing him heavily.
Guterson makes the racism against the Japanese evident throughout the novel, and the impacts it has
towards Japanese Americans. Ursula Kroeber Le Guin s short story, The Ones Who Walk Away From
Omelas takes place in the quaint, utopian city of Omelas, and the disasters that lurk beneath. The
happiness of the citizens relies solely on the misery of a single child, locked away and hidden from the
rest of civilization. The short story looks at an interesting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David Guterson wrote Hatsue s cultural journey as rough and uncomfortable, as the tension between
the Americans and Japanese were strong, and Hatsue was on the brink of finding herself and where
she belonged. Hatsue quoted, I don t want to be Japanese, and felt tired in her skin. Guterson
portrayed that Hatsue found it easier to deny her culture, than to accept the truth of the matter that her
boyfriend is an American essentially the enemy . The American s and the Japanese thought it simpler
to feud with each other, than to admit to being afraid of one another. Guterson explained, The whites,
you see, are tempted by their egos and have no means to resist, and went on further to quote, We
Japanese ...bend our egos, all of the time, and that is where we differ. The two cultures found that
ignoring ways in which they would be able to fix their problems, and instead showing acts of blunt
racism, left both parties at peace. They both had their prejudices, and sought it easier to act on it than
do anything to fix it. A similar problem is faced in Omelas, as Guin quotes, Their tears at the bitter
injustice dry when they begin to perceive the terrible justice of reality, and to accept it. The citizens of
Omelas were content to distance themselves from the thought of the mistreated boy, and to
acknowledge the matter for what it is, and move on. The boy s distraught feelings

Humor, Race and Misunderstanding
Comedy is simply a funny way of being serious.
Peter Ustinov
In On Being Crazy , DuBois defines crazy as behavior based on illogical perceptions. Both the
narrator and wayfarer agree that the wayfarer walking in the mud and becoming muddy rather than
walk along side a dirty nigger who is clean is crazy. DuBois illustrates that society prefers to cut off its
nose to spite its face instead of fixing the nose. Twain builds much of the Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn in the same manner. His commentary regarding the social injustice is buried within the story s
humor. While it isn t readily available on the surface, if one is so inclined to look, it can be easily

No one then, with exception of a few, understood the psychological impact the word had on the
recipient.
Twain s use of nigger illustrates that the nigger was not only a means of identification, but a
description of what one was. It stripped away the humanity and individualism of a person leaving a
shell, which was considered sub human. When a nigger wasn t a nigger, whites were astonished but
they didn t separate the nigger from the man. Huck, along with every other white person of the time
believed blacks couldn t be as intelligent as whites. ...Well, he was right; he was most always right; he
had an uncommon level head for a nigger quot; (Norton Anthology 266).
DuBois makes the same case in On Being Crazy . Niggers is dirty, he said. So is mud, said I.
Moreover I added, I am not as dirty as you at least not yet. But you re a nigger ain t you? he asked
(Dubois 2). Although the narrator isn t dirty or ignorant, the white wayfarer simply can t comprehend
that a black man could be anything other than a nigger. In fact, it is the white man who using the
standards of the day embodies the personification of a nigger.
Huck is truly a product of his time. Although he is our hero, he too is guilty of engaging in racial
misunderstanding, as evidenced when he tries to protect Jim. quot; When we was ready to shove off

Fructose, Glucose And Carbohydrates
1. Describe the structure of a monosaccharide and name the three monosaccharides important in
nutrition. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component
monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found?
There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are a
type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same
structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules
of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The
difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each provide a
different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very important to the body
s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same chemical formula of glucose,
is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single
sugar. The order difference of these bonds is shown in the following reference pictures found in
Understanding Nutrition. (Whitney Rolfes, 2014, p101) There are three types of disaccharides as well;
Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose. These sugars are compounds of the monosaccharide groups. Maltose
consists of 2 glucose atoms; this is created when starches break down. Sucrose consists of one glucose
and one fructose atom and is the sweetest of the

just about any body that is in reasonably good health. Certainly, the thing that even the most cynical
person will admit is that the hiking on the Machu Picchu trail is among the treasured wonders of the
world. The thing that so many Americans are worried about is safety. There is this giant misconception

The people of Peru are the kindest and heart warming people on the planet. In my journeys across the
globe, I have never encountered a population nor a culture that did as much to welcome into their
world. I think that the most important thing for me as a traveller is to connect with and to understand
the people of the places that I travel too. The easiest place that I have found to obtain that connection
has been in Peru. Another thing that many Americans talk about is that they are unsure about the ease
of travel in Peru. There seems to be a concern about finding guides and navigating successfully. The
simple answer to that question is that there are numerous outfitters that specialize in taking Americans
across the country and trekking in all of the most beautiful spots. Obviously Machu Picchu will be on
every first time visitor s list. But there are numerous other attractions that make trekking Peru a world

Essay Question: What was an influence for Brahms Composition? Examine.
Johannes Brahms was one of the 19th century s greatest composers and one of the leading musicians
of the Romantic era. Brahms, together with Ludwig Van Beethoven and Johann Sebastian Bach, was
considered one of the Three B s of German music. This shows Brahms significance in German music,
as he is one of the symbols of German music. Not only did Brahms compose German music, but he
also composed Hungarian music. This is thought provoking because it was unusual for a German to
compose Hungarian music as well. This essay will be discussing what made Brahms compose
Hungarian gypsy music. Also, Zigeunerlieder Op.103, one of Brahms pieces that contain the
Hungarian gypsy element will be examined.
Born on the 7th of May 1833 in Hamburg, Johannes Brahms was the second child born into the
Lutheran family. He spent most of his professional life in Vienna, Austria. Not only did he compose

In 1848, hundreds of Hungarians crowed the streets of his place of birth, Hamburg, to take refuge
from the Hungarian revolution that was taking place in their homeland. Many of them were gypsy
musicians. The gypsy musicians often played Hungarian music that was popular and they played it
however they wanted, in their own ways. They usually played in bands, and most gypsy bands had an
interesting combination of instruments, two violins, a double bass, and the cimbalom, a large
Hungarian dulcimer. Interestingly at times, the bands would add in a clarinet or another woodwind
instrument, which would enrich and add to the radiant and vibrant music. (C.A. Bell and D. Bell

The Princess Bride Analysis
In the film, The Princess Bride, the director Rob Reiner introduced many themes into the plot. A
significant theme in the film, The Princess Bride, is Intelligence . Had intelligence not have been a
contributing factor to the plot, there would be a completely different outcome at the end. Deception,
outwitting, outsmarting, all contribute to how the story ends. An excellent example of this is when
Westley and Vizzini had a battle of wit to win the princess, as Vizzini had kidnapped her. The shots
used were mostly close ups, as the two of them had no real power over the other. Westley was the one
leading the challenge. This involved Vizzini choosing which wine goblet had the iodine powder. Of
course, Westley had developed an immunity to iodine powder, so he had put iodine powder in both
goblets. Vizzini, thinking he was smart, continuously questioned which goblet it could be in, making it
look like he was stalling. He eventually picked one, drunk it, and thought he had won. He had not.
After Vizzini collapsed to the ground, Westley escorted Buttercup away and shared some of his tales
to her. These experiences he had experienced caused this Man in black to be almost terrifying to
Buttercup, as she had not known yet that he was in fact, Westley. Buttercup explains to him about her
lost love, and Westley simply mocks her. You mock my pain! She tells him, upset by his lack of
caring. He just replies, Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says different is selling something. He
says this with ease as he knows exactly her pain. Westley s speech pattern was very proper, and he was
quite knowledgeable in his many experiences. He knew about the terrors of the fire swamp, and
seemed to know lots of useful information to help him and Buttercup get away. He had experienced
many other situations that helped contribute to his vast knowledge. Having a high level of intelligence
also contributes to your authority over people. When Westley was climbing the mountain to get to
Inigo, a low shot was used showing that currently, Inigo had power. Another example, Prince
Humperdinck, being royal, had quite a bit of authority

American Impressionism During The Nineteenth Century
American Impressionism took shift in Paris, 1874 by a group of artists called the Anonymous Society
of Painters. They organized an exhibition in Paris that launched the movement called Impressionism.
Impressionists depicted the everyday lives of middle class people by using natural light and rapid
brushwork. In addition to their fundamental technique, the bright colors of Impressionist canvases
were shocking to people who were used to the more moderate colors of Academic painting. The paints
themselves were more vivid as well. In the nineteenth century there was a development of unatural

One artist that was part of the impressionist movement was Claude Monet. Monet was raised in

Paris and its territories. By developing a unique style of perceiving nature, he led the way to
modernism in the twentieth century. One of his paintings that was painted during this time period was
the Regatta at Sainte Adresse. This painting is on view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 818.4
This painting has many elements to it that makes it appealing. It is an oil on canvas painting. In the
painting it is an average day and there are people lounging on the beach. The people are dressed in
fancy clothing; suit jackets, hats, holding canes. The women are wearing dresses and holding
umbrellas to shield the sun. The coastline of the beach is wavy, this way we can see the buildings at
the end of the painting because it goes around in a circular way. The beach is rocky. The sky is light
blue with white clouds that descend back into the painting, almost as if they are drifting behind the
houses. The ocean isn t overlapping the beach, it meets it perfectly. The ocean is different shades of
blue and green. It starts off as a darkish blue and fades into a lighter green with dark green strokes,

Child Soldiers In The Military Essay
Recruitment and use of children in war is one of the six grave violations against children in situations
of conflict. Currently, there are over 300,000 child soldiers being exploited in battle, while six million
have been gravely injured or are now permanently disabled. Additionally, there are about 20 million
boys and girls that have been displaced and are refugees in surrounding countries due to the gross
violations of conflict and human rights. The role of children in armed conflict is not restricted to direct
participation in warfare, but includes boys and girls in support functions that ultimately are a bigger
risk and hardship than combat.

assortment of international legal instruments on juvenile justice, in addition to the fact that they are
not permitted any legal safeguards. Even when they are tried before national courts or military
tribunals, juvenile justice standards are not applied. A contributor to children being recruited and used
as soldiers is the ready availability of small arms and light weapons. It has been shown that there is a
link between arms and the feeling of power that shapes the identity of a child soldier. The illicit arms
trade is not regulated in some areas as well as it should be, and this has an impact on the children, as
well as compromising peace processes and curbing the humanitarian assistance that is

A Child With Developmental Delays
When Mia was only two years old, her parents noticed that she was not up to speed with other
children her age. This discovery led her to the genetics department at A.I. DuPont Children s Hospital.
For a child with developmental delays, I only saw that she lit up the room with her energy and friendly
nature, which made me fall in love with her as she explored the room. While the counselor consulted
her parents, Mia continued to come up to me and grab my hands, something that she apparently did
quite frequently. During the appointment, her mother began to cry, worried that she may have
inadvertently caused Mia s condition during pregnancy. Her father had concerns that his first child
may never be able to live a normal life and have children of her own. The counselor eased the parents
concerns by educating them on her syndrome and basic genetics as well as getting them in contact
with a support group for children with the same syndrome. Mia and her family went home well
informed and in good spirits despite the devastating news they received. This family is a prime
example of the benefits of genetic counseling, and why patient care is crucial in the profession.

Meaning Of Plato s Examined Life
Living an examined life means to constantly question our values and beliefs in order to be able to
ideally defend our ideas about how to live our lives. This questioning allows us to have an open mind

examined life comes with various obstacles. We may experience people surrounding us, for example
our neighbors, family members, turn against us, treat us and our ideas as threatening to the society.
Although we may have to face these difficulties, through questioning what we already know, we will

Earworm Essay
Can t Get It Out of My Head
Chances are, you have listened to the radio at some point today. Maybe even right now, you are still
humming a song you heard hours ago. You are not alone. Many people today suffer from the same
thing you are experiencing. This sometimes annoying experience is called an earworm. The earworm
effect is very real.
What is an earworm? An earworm, a term derived from the German ohrwurn is defined as a cognitive
itch or the inability to dislodge a song and prevent it from repeating itself in one s head (Synapse). It is
also described as a catchy piece of music that continually repeats itself through a person s mind. Some

The earworm strongly relies on the phonological loop which is a short term memory system located in
your auditory cortex. The phonological loop can best be pictured as a record that plays over and over
again without stopping, but only playing a part of the song. That may be a reason why you only
remember parts of the song; the phonological loop is a short term memory system. A lot of the time,
people may get the song stuck in their head because they can t remember how the song ends, only the
particular chorus of the song. Another reason why you may only remember parts of the song is
because certain pieces of music may have properties that excite an abnormal reaction in the brain.
(Synapse) The songs will most likely be catchy, which will contribute to the earworm effect. There
may also be a psychological reason to why some songs are more likely to stick in your head. They
include memory triggers, emotional states, and stress levels. Psychologist researchers may even be
able to treat patients with memory loss by studying music memory. Tracking an earworm in a
scientific setting can be a near impossible task . (BrainFacts). How long does the earworm effect last?
According to researchers, about 98% of all people have gotten songs stuck in their heads at one time
or another.

Prior to the 1820 s, the people of the United States had been struggling to find a way to solve their
sectional tensions brought on by slavery in the south. The south had always had an economy based on
agriculture that could not strive without their uses of slavery. They did not plan on ending slavery
anytime soon, especially since it was really all they had to support themselves. They were against
establishing an industrial based economy like the north had began to do in the 1820 1830 s. The real
cause of the sectional tensions between the North and the South during the 1820 s 1860 s was not
slavery itself, but how it affected each society so differently, and it was very challenging to find a
compromise to suit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Court also ruled that Congress lacked power to ban slavery in the U.S. territories. And lastly, the
Court declared that the rights of slave owners were constitutionally protected by the Fifth Amendment
because slaves were bought by owners, labeling them as property. In the North, antislavery supporters
were outraged by the outcome of the Dred Scott case, strengthening the newly submitted Republican
Party and helping ignite the violence between slave owners and abolitionists on the frontier. The
Missouri Compromise was declared unconstitutional under the laws made in the Dred Scott v.
Stanford Supreme Court Case in 1857. The case gave Northerners a reason to fear Southern slave
power. It left the nation indecisive on the actions it should take to replenish the nation of what it needs
to settle the sectional tensions in which were causing our country to fall apart.
With the increased sectional tensions left untouched after the Missouri Compromise, California wants
in as a free state. Again, Henry Clay suggests an idea to keep from the occurrence of another uprising
like the one after the Missouri Compromise. The Compromise of 1850 had something to offer for the
North and the South. The Compromise would allow California to become a free state, as a benefit for
the North. It would also ban the selling of slaves in Washington D.C., another benefit to the North. To
make the south happy, it strengthened

(World of criminal justice, gale) The controversy is over whether the definition of gangs should
include participation in delinquent or criminal behavior as part of the definition. Among senior gang
researchers, (James F.). Short and Joan Moore are among those favoring the exclusion of delinquency
criteria from the definition of a gang. The Sons of Liberty were described by British sympathizers as
no more than a gang of delinquent youth. Accounts of the American Civil War include the threats
against Lincoln made by a Baltimore gang and the effort of Jefferson Davis to intervene in a dispute
between rival adolescent gangs in Richmond. The children and adolescents of these immigrants
became members of groups identified as gangs. In the late 1800s, youth gangs emerged in New York,

A Short Note On Security Assessment And Solutions-...
Security Assessment Solutions Aircraft Solutions
Executive Summary
This paper seeks to identify two security vulnerabilities in the Aircraft Solution s computer network.
The investigation identified one policy and one software vulnerability. The policy vulnerability is the
firewall and router rule set policy that requires a review of these settings every two years. The
recommendation is to have management develop and support a new policy that will improve network
security and abide by current federal laws and regulations.
The identified software vulnerability is that customers, clients and employees have the same network
privilege with access through a corporate firewall, as in the case of the Chula Vista location, there is
direct access to the internet over WAN without any policy restrictions. The recommendation is to
install additional host based firewalls on all servers and user computers. In addition, remove the WAN
connection at the Chula Vista location and route all network traffic through the corporate firewall.
Company Overview
Aircraft Solutions, headquartered in San Diego, Southern California with two divisions located within
driving distance, designs, fabricates components, and provides services for companies in the
electronics, commercial, defense, and the aerospace industry. They use automated equipment for most
of their manufacturing, while maintaining a highly skilled workforce of design engineers,

Examples Of Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.
Nelson Mandela s quote speaks volumes toward injustice in the world today. Racism, gender bias,
unfair treatment, and false assumptions all contribute to the concept of injustice. Harper Lee s To Kill
a Mockingbird novel demonstrates many forms of injustice, and while some may seem petty, they still
have a massive effect on a person. Lee Presents an unfair trial tainted by racism and many
presumptuous people who take sides in matters when they do not even know the whole story. Clearly,
To Kill a Mockingbird carries a constant theme of injustice through racism, unfair assumptions, and
the stubbornness of man.
Firstly, the novel presents injustice through racism. Harper Lee excellently portrays injustice through
racism in the justice system and by rash actions. For example, when the Ewells falsely accuse African
American Tom Robinson of rape, the trial clearly reveals Robinson s innocence. ... Show more content

The novel characterizes this form of injustice from through hasty adults and the silly thoughts of
children. For example, Scout finds herself in a quarrel with her unruly cousin Francis when he belittles
her father s work, and afterwards, she says to her Uncle, Well, in the first place you never stopped to
gimme a chance to tell you my side of it you just lit right into me (113). While both Francis and Scout
were at fault in this situation, Scout s Uncle failed to hear both sides of the story and unfairly rebukes
only Scout. Another petty, but still important, injustice results from Scout and her brother s false
beliefs about Boo Radley. They assume that he is an evil person who would kill them if they set foot
on his property, but discovering his kind character proves them wrong in the end. Clearly, the novel
shows how injustice can spring from people s false assumptions or

Technology Is An Ever Changing Learning Tool
Technology is an ever changing learning tool that requires a lot of thought and a lot of practice in
order to utilize it well. There are times when I feel like a leader and there are times when I am the
student in the field of technology. I do understand the importance of using it within my classroom, but
often I do not have the time to use it correctly or to its full potential. Oncu, Delialioglu Brown (2008)
state that while there is more technology in classrooms, there is little evidence that these technologies
are integrated into instruction (p.20). In order for technology to be effective, it must be implemented
well in order to be effective. In any case, technology is a 21st century skill and it needs to be embraced
in the educational community. Standard I: Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.
At this point, I have been utilizing our new Canvas system by creating online quizzes and discussions.
The discussions promote both student reflection and collaborative knowledge among peers. Students
are able to reflect on questions posed at the beginning of the original post and often must use textual
evidence to support their claim. Once they have posted, they are required to reply to at least one other
classmate s response. I believe they engage in learning through this online, face to face environment.
Additionally, this format allows the instructor to model an original post as well as actively respond to
students posts with a reply of

Magic In Diana Bishop s Misconceptions
According to the Oxford Dictionaries, one can define magic as the power of apparently influencing
events by means of mysterious or supernatural forces (Oxford). Due to the growing influence of
scientific advancement in the past decades, the polysemic term magic appears to have lost its
enigmatic and supernatural connotations. Rather, magical beliefs and supernatural phenomenon have
predominantly been replaced by scientific theories and explanations, with people believing that all
magical phenomenon can be explained through science. The character development of Deborah
Harkness protagonist, Diana Bishop, and the characterization of the deuterogamist, Matthew
Clairmont, reference the varying views that people have today toward scientific ... Show more content

Diana s research of seventeenth century alchemy, Harkness elaborates on the widespread fallacy of
alchemy to explaining the reasoning behind why certain individuals cannot understand the
interweaving relationship between magic and science. After Matthew expresses his admiration toward
Diana s work, Diana struggles to understand his admiration since to her, it seemed highly unlikely that
Matthew, a professor of biochemistry, would be interested in seventeenth century alchemy (Harkness
20). Modern science, such as chemistry, will often be considered contradicting toward alchemy since
chemistry represents modern experimental science while alchemy represents that of the supernatural
and unrealistic. History and chemistry professors, William R. Newman and Lawrence M. Príncipe,
explain that the distinction between alchemy and chemistry today originates from a historiographic
mistake that occurred as a result of the presumption that the distinction between the two disciplines
stems back all the way to the seventeenth century. Furthermore, modern secondary literature further
endorses the historiographic mistake by claiming that the words chemistry and alchemy were
commonly used at that time to reference the distinction between the

Deforestation Is Wrong
So Deforestation, in my opinion deforestation is wrong and bad for earth, the reason i dont like
deforestation and i think its a problem is because its killing many species, destroying forests, and
destroying habitats.
First of all destroying habitats, destroying habitats is a problem.that talks about benefits talk about how
deforestation provides us a way of life, but think about how many things live in the forest. Humans are
also animals and how would you feel is someone went to your home, came in and chopped it all
down? See you wouldent want that right? So think about how the animals feel.
Second is killing all the species, those animals out there that live in the forest are just like us.

Summary Of A Rose For Emily By Emily Grierson
Emily Grierson died at the mere age of 74, still having her whole life ahead of her. She had been
forced to live a lonely life, which later led to her becoming oppressed. Miss Emily was written into a
lonely woman by William Faulkner in his gothic story a Rose for Emily . Faulkner s gothic literature
describes the many different ways Miss Emily showed her oppression. In his story, Emily lived alone
in a house that was lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay .She wouldn t speak to anyone about
anything and would often isolate herself from the eyes of others by remaining in her house for long
periods of time.
Miss Emily Grierson seemed like a calm and independent woman that the whole neighborhood knew
about. People would often find themselves wishing for her to find a man, and when she did they
would wish for her to marry him. However, before she had found a man, she had her father, who
would strictly forbid her from =having any relationship with any man. Miss Emily respected her father
s wishes, obeyed his every rule, and even lived with him until she reached the age of thirty and still
found herself single. Her father s death affected Miss Emily greatly. She had at first denied her father s
death and left his corpse sitting in her dining room for three days before she finally broke down. The
detail that Faulkner wrote, about her denying her father s death, signalled that she was suffering from
oppression. Miss Emily Grierson was slowly starting to decay.

Application for a Position as Resident Assistant
1. What experiences have you had which prepare you for this position (e.g perhaps as an employee,
leader, or working with people different from yourself, etc)? Working with different people is one of
things I am excited about being a RA. As I met different people with different cultures, beliefs and
worked together in the past, I am certain I know how to interact with them. These experiences taught
me how to interact people different from me flexibly, how to withstand pressure and how to use
differences as strength. Moreover I have taken several leadership positions before so benefits from
those positions would be useful in becoming a RA. A resident assistant should always be caring and
protective of his residents. He has to guide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I search for the interceptions that we share together so that we could move forwards together. If we
keep pointing out the differences, it would be similar to two people rowing a boat in two different
directions. If we can find the direction where we both want to go, we can start rowing our boat
forwards. When I became a RA, I believe that I could encourage other people to see their similarities
instead of pointing out the differences and we could create a diverse community with same goal
together to keep moving forwards.
3.What qualities or skills do you hope to develop or improve as a RA? How do you think being an RA
will contribute to your personal growth? I believe that being a RA would greatly improve my
leadership skills. What a resident assistant has to do to his residents is very similar to what a leader
would do to his subordinates. A resident assistant would care about his residents well being as a leader
would do. He would counsel them on personal and academic concerns and keep students safe and
healthy. Therefore, as a RA, I believe the greatest benefit would be the tendency to become a great
leader. Moreover I also hope to develop my problems solving and critical thinking skills because a RA
would face many problems during the semester. Everyone s problem can become a RA s problem so I
think it would be a great opportunity to learn how to tackle the problems. As a RA has to interact

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Online Gambling The Nevada legislature, the act that legalized gambling at the local level, came into place in 1931. Since then, casino gambling has always been a major industry in the United States. Since its advent, casino gambling has dominated the reputation and nightlife of several cities and towns across the US, with Nevada and New Jersey being the most affected. For the better part of five decades, Nevada s role in playing the host to Sin City has gone mainly uncontested until New Jersey decided to throw its hat into the ring. Though Las Vegas, Reno, and Atlantic City are still the largest and most popular casino and gambling destinations in the US and perhaps, the world states such as Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, Louisiana, Philadelphia, and Connecticut also have a thriving gambling and casino industry. Some of the fastest growing casino and gambling vacation destinations include St Louis, Pennsylvania, Detroit, Chicago, Tunica, Shreveport, and Biloxi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it s not officially legal to play online poker and other casino games (yet), the laws appear to be a giant grey area, and as a result, there are more people going online to gamble than ever before. Online gambling is only legal in three states in reality. The three states that have legalized online gambling are Delaware, the latest to do so in 2012, Nevada, and New Jersey. The first state to pass a clear bill that legalized online slots, casino, and poker games was Nevada, and that was in 2010. New Jersey followed suit a couple of years later. There is an ongoing wave of the legalization of online gambling. States such as California, New York, and Pennsylvania are on the verge of passing bills that seek to legalize online gambling. • 4. The Importance Of Planning For Disaster Response And How... 1) Describe the focus of the article and its relevance to project management. From a high level the focus of the article was the importance of planning for disaster response and how the lack of planning can have a serious negative impact on the effectiveness of providing relief to those in need. All of the information is relevant to project management in that providing disaster relief is a project much like any other project. The main differences are that it is more complex, requires immediate action, and is less tolerant of mistakes (scope change). The author points out that Effective planning helps any project, but in disaster relief efforts, it can make the difference between life and death, normality and chaos. (1) The importance of staying focused and not trying to be all things to all people is discussed as well as ensuring that aid givers stick with their core competencies and know when to disengage. A contributor, Myles Fish of International Aid is quoted as saying If there is not a predetermined contribution and consummation, then you will end up taking on every need, which is far too taxing on any organization and presents a situation where the entire effort never has an end (2) Other areas mentioned include the importance of communication at all levels and between all relief agencies. Myles Fish also says this about communication High level communication is imperative in coordinating with other community partners to identify gaps in services and to ... • 5. US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Company Background: Takata Corporation, founded in 1933 in Shiga Prefecture, Japan as a textile manufacturer using weaving technology to manufacture lifelines. Piqued by American research on adding safety belts to cars, Takata began doing their own research in 1952 using parachute technology to manufacturer seat belts. In 1973 Takata began to voluntarily participate in the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. Takata was the only company out of six other companies to clear the 32.3 mph crash standard. It was in 1979 that Takata began to research air bags and begin developing child restraint systems. By 1983 Takata was supplying 800 air bags to various U.S. institutions and in 1988 established Highland Industries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since air bags are a standardized component within the final product, the slightest defect can wind up affecting millions of vehicles. As safety is Takata s motto they should have better quality systems in place that would minimize the number of defective standardized products given the sheer volume produced. Takata ought to have taken a more diligent approach to the defects and addressed the public s safety concerns sooner than six years after a death occurred as a result of their product. Furthermore, Takata cited driver safety as the reason for its controversial refusal to comply with federal regulators who want a national recall of its airbags. I believe that Takata was not prepared for a full scale recall so they decided to pursue a more hands off approach which was truly not in their best interest. Because Takata prolonged the recall investigation, they were faced with several penalties, fines and fees and as a result of their lack of effort to correct the problem, company shares have fallen and Takata is reporting a net loss. There is also the potential for Takata to lose some of their customers; however, it is important to note that Takata is only one of three companies producing air bags. Due to the minimal choices automakers have for suppliers with regards to air bags, it reasons that Takata might not be concerned with their position in the supply chain as the automakers would not favor a duopoly. • 7. Writing Against Death in The Floating Opera Essay Writing Against Death in The Floating Opera In the opening chapter of The Floating Opera, Todd Andrews makes an observation that storytelling is not his cup of tea, because digressions are impossible to contain, and that makes it hard for him to concentrate on a particular line of narration; every image he creates breeds other images, words bring about other words, there being no end to new figures and new chases (Barth 2). This remark suggests that Todd s existence is, indeed, confined to the reality he forges by telling his tale; this fictitious reality regenerates itself. The tone of the passage also implies that Todd enjoys not a little the unprecedented freedom this realm allows to digress at will, chasing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Dennis Martin points out, their is a question how conscious Todd is of the distinction between history and the invented past (31). Todd s reference to his reading may well validate the argument that a good deal of the story, if not all of it, is pure fiction. Todd s motives for creating his tale are directly related to the relationship between fact and artifact in his writing in his life. He is unreliable as a narrator not only because the facts of his story are suspect; he would fictionalize any event. Todd s mind is purely aesthetic; according to Thomas LeClair, life to him is a fiction to be created (719). It is most noteworthy that even in extreme situations (losing his virginity, if it may be regarded as such, or fighting in the front line in World War I), when reality is brutally tangible, Todd Andrews is still able to observe himself objectively, maintain the detachment which is so essential to a writer. In other words, it is not the fact of his experience that is important to him, but rather the artifact (LeClair 720): his mind is not as much into the situations he goes through, but is rather set on his account of them. But why does Todd Andrews embrace aesthetization of life? A clue to that could be the the argument of Charles Harris, who brings up the the mind body split in Todd Andrews the phenomenon, as he ... Gender roles are a set of societal norms dictating the types of behaviors which are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable for people based on their actual or perceived sex or sexuality. The concept of gender roles is based on certain male and female stereotypes, which has been constructed through history. In American society, the norm for gender roles distinguishes between masculine and feminine behaviors, attitudes, and activities. In today s culture people want to promote the concept of egalitarianism, which can value equality but promote and put certain emphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to understand why gender inequality is present within society, we must first understand how gender became a category for human beings to be classified. Eric Wolf (1923 1999) describes culture as a self generating and self propelling mental apparatus of norms and rules for behavior . Culture involves habits and symbols, which produce ideas that allow individuals to separate or unite themselves. The 19th century model of unilineal evolution emerges through the theories of various anthropologists. This model seeks to critique societies and cultures through a teleology that moves from primitive to civilized societies. Through this model, we see ideas formulated by James Ferguson (1959 present) and Edward Tylor (1832 1917). Ferguson states there are no higher or lowers societies, however, Tylor views civilization as higher and lower forms through the use of culture. He holds to the idea that civilization and culture are identical. There are not different civilizations, just different amounts of culture within a society. Charles Darwin (1809 1882) enforced the ideology that women are biologically inferior to men. This was thought largely due to the idea that men must prove themselves physically and intellectually against other men in competition for women. Whereas, women must be superior to a man largely in the case of physical attraction. Franz Boas (1858 1942) challenged unilineal evolution and argued that Darwin s work wasn t teleological. In Professor X s essay, In the basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career, although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for college. I believe that college isn t for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs. My whole life I have heard that college isn t something you think about doing it is simply something everyone must do. • 12. U.s. Labor Policy Proposal Essay Labor Policy Proposal Presented by Institution Introduction Many people have no idea of what they expect to achieve after retirement when asked about their retirement plans. The government s policies about retirement do not cater for the well being of retirees creating a lot of worry for the life after employment. The increasing number of employees demanding cover by government pension programs and the current decline in the retirement income levels contributes to the change of the American pension landscape (Heiland and Li, 2012). The United States of America developed labor laws during the time when the country s economy was independent and self contained. The main aim of U.S. labor policy was to get rid of different challenges affecting employees and improve their lifestyle in order to enjoy working in a suitable environment. Additionally, the labor policy aimed at protecting American workers by law and protecting certain human rights. According to Dugas (2013), despite the growing economy in U.S. more than 28 percent of American workers lack confidence with the current labor policy on retirement. The research conducted by the Employment Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) in 2013 revealed that most workers are not sure of saving money for retirement. The above information calls upon a recommendation of labor policy about retirement that would fulfill the demands of workers. This commercial scale reactor was built in southwest Scotland and given a name MAGNOX due to the fuel cladding (magnesium non oxidising alloy) used to contain the fuels. The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uranium metal fuel to generate thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within the core. Two types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA) and Pile Grade B (PGB). The former is used as a neutron moderator due to its high density and lower neutron absorption, whereas the latter is mostly used as a reflector [23]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The remaining two reactors (including the one under construction) are based on PWR design. AGRs are the second generation of the UK nuclear power plants, and initially designed to improve the steam cycle efficiency of the early reactor design (MAGNOX). This type of reactors exists only in the UK and operated by EDF Energy (formerly British Energy). Since the AGRs first operation in 1976 they have become the UK s most dominant reactor after showing an increased economic benefits and steam cycle efficiency approximately 42% compared with MAGNOX reactor, which has approximately 31% efficiency [25]. Some of the major differences lie within the styles of communication in the two countries, but if studied thoroughly similarities in communication methods can be found. The reputation that the main character, Firdaus, builds for herself is a reputation that holds a lot of power. That reputation was broken after Firdaus meeting with a prince, after she confessed that she had killed a man earlier that night. By getting what she wants, she is above the social groups that were put into the stereotypes of being a prostitute in an Arab culture, and especially in a time where women were meant to be under men, even in religion. More specifically, the cultural groups created in Egypt around this time include following a strict Muslim religion, and respecting exactly what the Koran tells people to do. Also, before the encounter with the prince, Firdaus had committed her most horrible crime a human could commit. She killed a man. With all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a vase from 400 BC, Orestes is drawn having a ceremony to get rid of vengeful spirits that would not leave him alone since his mother was killed. In the book Orestes by Euripides, Orestes is depicted as a helpless, exhausted and motivationless person who barely ever wanted to eat but was constantly crying and sleeping. Jason the Argonaut is another Greek work that has to do with melancholia. Jason is described as a hero who is always in action trying to resolve problems. However, he becomes a helpless and bad tempered person when his ship is wrecked on the coast of Libya. In the 4th century BC however, melancholia began to be viewed as an illness in Greek scientific work. For example, the physician Hippocrates wrote that melancholia was a depressive temperament that resulted when bodily humors or fluids were not balanced. According to Hippocrates, the body was composed of blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm. When someone became ill, it was thought that there was an excess amount of a substances. Guterson portrayed that Hatsue found it easier to deny her culture, than to accept the truth of the matter that her boyfriend is an American essentially the enemy . Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found? There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are a type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each provide a different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very important to the body s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same chemical formula of glucose, is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single sugar. A significant theme in the film, The Princess Bride, is Intelligence . Had intelligence not have been a contributing factor to the plot, there would be a completely different outcome at the end. Deception, outwitting, outsmarting, all contribute to how the story ends. An excellent example of this is when Westley and Vizzini had a battle of wit to win the princess, as Vizzini had kidnapped her. The shots used were mostly close ups, as the two of them had no real power over the other. Westley was the one leading the challenge. This involved Vizzini choosing which wine goblet had the iodine powder. Of course, Westley had developed an immunity to iodine powder, so he had put iodine powder in both goblets. Vizzini, thinking he was smart, continuously questioned which goblet it could be in, making it look like he was stalling. He eventually picked one, drunk it, and thought he had won. He had not. After Vizzini collapsed to the ground, Westley escorted Buttercup away and shared some of his tales to her. These experiences he had experienced caused this Man in black to be almost terrifying to Buttercup, as she had not known yet that he was in fact, Westley. He knew about the terrors of the fire swamp, and seemed to know lots of useful information to help him and Buttercup get away. He had experienced many other situations that helped contribute to his vast knowledge. Having a high level of intelligence also contributes to your authority over people. You are not alone. Many people today suffer from the same thing you are experiencing. This sometimes annoying experience is called an earworm. The earworm effect is very real. What is an earworm? An earworm, a term derived from the German ohrwurn is defined as a cognitive itch or the inability to dislodge a song and prevent it from repeating itself in one s head (Synapse). The phonological loop can best be pictured as a record that plays over and over again without stopping, but only playing a part of the song. That may be a reason why you only remember parts of the song; the phonological loop is a short term memory system. A lot of the time, people may get the song stuck in their head because they can t remember how the song ends, only the particular chorus of the song. Another reason why you may only remember parts of the song is because certain pieces of music may have properties that excite an abnormal reaction in the brain. (Synapse) The songs will most likely be catchy, which will contribute to the earworm effect. There may also be a psychological reason to why some songs are more likely to stick in your head. They include memory triggers, emotional states, and stress levels. Psychologist researchers may even be able to treat patients with memory loss by studying music memory. Tracking an earworm in a scientific setting can be a near impossible task . (BrainFacts). How long does the earworm effect last? The south had always had an economy based on agriculture that could not strive without their uses of slavery. They did not plan on ending slavery anytime soon, especially since it was really all they had to support themselves. They were against establishing an industrial based economy like the north had began to do in the 1820 1830 s. The real cause of the sectional tensions between the North and the South during the 1820 s 1860 s was not slavery itself, but how it affected each society so differently, and it was very challenging to find a compromise to suit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Court also ruled that Congress lacked power to ban slavery in the U.S. territories. And lastly, the Court declared that the rights of slave owners were constitutionally protected by the Fifth Amendment because slaves were bought by owners, labeling them as property. In the North, antislavery supporters were outraged by the outcome of the Dred Scott case, strengthening the newly submitted Republican Party and helping ignite the violence between slave owners and abolitionists on the frontier. The Missouri Compromise was declared unconstitutional under the laws made in the Dred Scott v. Stanford Supreme Court Case in 1857. The case gave Northerners a reason to fear Southern slave power. It left the nation indecisive on the actions it should take to replenish the nation of what it needs to settle the sectional tensions in which were causing our country to fall apart. With the increased sectional tensions left untouched after the Missouri Compromise, California wants in as a free state. Again, Henry Clay suggests an idea to keep from the occurrence of another uprising like the one after the Missouri Compromise. The Compromise of 1850 had something to offer for the North and the South. The Compromise would allow California to become a free state, as a benefit for the North. It would also ban the selling of slaves in Washington D.C., another benefit to the North. To make the south happy, it strengthened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Examples Of Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest. Nelson Mandela s quote speaks volumes toward injustice in the world today. Racism, gender bias, unfair treatment, and false assumptions all contribute to the concept of injustice. Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird novel demonstrates many forms of injustice, and while some may seem petty, they still have a massive effect on a person. Lee Presents an unfair trial tainted by racism and many presumptuous people who take sides in matters when they do not even know the whole story. Clearly, To Kill a Mockingbird carries a constant theme of injustice through racism, unfair assumptions, and the stubbornness of man. Firstly, the novel presents injustice through racism. Harper Lee excellently portrays injustice through racism in the justice system and by rash actions. For example, when the Ewells falsely accuse African American Tom Robinson of rape, the trial clearly reveals Robinson s innocence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While both Francis and Scout were at fault in this situation, Scout s Uncle failed to hear both sides of the story and unfairly rebukes only Scout. Another petty, but still important, injustice results from Scout and her brother s false beliefs about Boo Radley. They assume that he is an evil person who would kill them if they set foot on his property, but discovering his kind character proves them wrong in the end. Clearly, the novel shows how injustice can spring from people s false assumptions or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to the growing influence of scientific advancement in the past decades, the polysemic term magic appears to have lost its enigmatic and supernatural connotations. Rather, magical beliefs and supernatural phenomenon have predominantly been replaced by scientific theories and explanations, with people believing that all magical phenomenon can be explained through science. Modern science, such as chemistry, will often be considered contradicting toward alchemy since chemistry represents modern experimental science while alchemy represents that of the supernatural and unrealistic. History and chemistry professors, William R. Newman and Lawrence M. She had been forced to live a lonely life, which later led to her becoming oppressed. Miss Emily was written into a lonely woman by William Faulkner in his gothic story a Rose for Emily . Faulkner s gothic literature describes the many different ways Miss Emily showed her oppression. In his story, Emily lived alone in a house that was lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay .She wouldn t speak to anyone about anything and would often isolate herself from the eyes of others by remaining in her house for long periods of time. Miss Emily Grierson seemed like a calm and independent woman that the whole neighborhood knew about. People would often find themselves wishing for her to find a man, and when she did they would wish for her to marry him. However, before she had found a man, she had her father, who would strictly forbid her from =having any relationship with any man. Miss Emily respected her father s wishes, obeyed his every rule, and even lived with him until she reached the age of thirty and still found herself single. Her father s death affected Miss Emily greatly. She had at first denied her father s death and left his corpse sitting in her dining room for three days before she finally broke down.
