What Is Abu Ghraib Unethical
A prison located in Iraq, Abu Ghraib was occupied by United States army in the early 2000s, where
Iraqi detainees and tortured. While the United States hoped to acquire information about terror in
hopes to save a greater number of people, reducing other people to merely a means was unethical. In
this review of the case of Abu Ghraib, I will examine various events and possible contributing factors
to unethical treatments of prisoners. Further, This essay will explore two opposing perspectives for
and against reasoning for tortures. To respond to the unethical nature of the guards behavior, I will
apply Kant s method to ethics. Additionally, while trying to explain why the United States actions, I
will refer to Utilitarianism. Lastly, This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
completely unethical. Immanuel Kant in his book Religion within the Bounds of Reason Alone (Part I:
On the Indwelling of the Bad Principle along with the Good; or, On the Radical Evil in Human
Nature) , explains evil as knowing the difference between good and evil and choosing to do evil. Some
of the guards from Abu Ghraib stated they knew some of the abuse techniques where unreasonable
however they want to head to do it. Additionally while trying understanding morality and society,
Kant uses the categorical imperative. Kant s categorical imperative holds that to indicate whether an
act is ethical, apply your maxim as a universal law if the result is positive then the act is acceptable. In
the case study of Ghraib, Kant will respond by considering the result of making extreme torturous to
gain information while dehumanizing people is made universal law. The torturous conduct by the
prison guards cannot be a logical principle. Further more, referring to Kant s practical imperative, Act
so that you use humanity, as much in your own person as in the person of every other, always at the
same time as an end and never merely as means. (p 47 48). Kant would agree that people should be

Analysis Of Lou Kline In A Visit From The Goon Squad
In a novel that jumps between periods of time and interchanges multiple characters, Lou Kline is one
of the only consistent elements throughout the entirety of A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer
Egan. Lou is first portrayed hostily as a abhorrent, egocentric man who fears growing older. In the
next chapter, the reader s perception of Lou is altered from a sleazy man to a more paternal figure, and
the reader understands that while Lou has done despicable things, he is not completely immoral.
Altered again, the final image of Lou is that of pity as a dying man, his failures are recounted and he is
therefore at his most vulnerable. Egan s non linear structure of the novel allows the reader to see
multiple sides of Lou Kline through different character perspectives, and in the end amplify the
merciless effect time has on a destructive urge to remain youthful and assert dominance to win at
everything. Lou s youth is characterized by in the moment actions, an abundance of girls, and reckless
living. Afraid of aging, he spends his whole life in this state of mind. Even on his deathbed he invites
Rhea and Jocelyn, young girls from his past, to visit him in order to experience a final youthful
atmosphere. The narrator, Rhea, describes Lou as having a surfer s face, connoting perceived inward
youth while people looking at him would see his face had gone a little draggy under the eyes (Egan
60). He shows many signs of childishness and carelessness when he ignore[s] the rule to stay seated
while the jeep is moving and again when he sees lions and proceeds to climb out of his seat with the
others and they jam their upper upper halves through the open roof (Egan 66). This carelessness shows
a lack of a sense of responsibility as not only an adult but also a father, as evidenced in his lack of care
for Rolph s true personality and his passive aggressive attitude to Charlie as she defies him. When
Charlie giggles and Lou asks her what s so funny, he mocks her answer: Life! Lou snorts. How old are
you? Ironically this response is so childish that it makes the reader question the mental age of Lou
himself. While Lou does show a more maternal side in this chapter, it is overtaken by his

Legal Validity Of Natural Law
Legal Validity in the View of Natural Law By: Micah A. Davis October 7, 2014 Abstract In this paper,
I will propose that it is better to look at whether a law is legally valid or not through the perspective of
natural law theory as opposed to positivist theory. My argument consists mostly of the language of
improvement which can only exist based on the theory of natural law which states that law is
something which has an objective truth behind it. Only when there is an objective mark to hit can
there be hits and misses and I believe that positivism disregards the possibility of hits and misses
entirely. So, my argument is that it makes more sense to consider legal validity of a law from the
perspective of natural law rather than positive law because it includes not only the previously set up
legal system when considering validity, but it also considers the general idea of some kind of morality
as well. A sub argument is that the starting legal system must have had some basis by which to have
been created and accepted which must be some form or notion of morality. Legal validity is how valid
or forceful or authoritative a law is within a system ( Validity ). There are many different ways to
interpret what it means when a law within a system changes. One way to view it is in a positivist
perspective. That perspective claims that when a judge changes a law, he is simply stating it based on
the words in the law and his interpretation of words,

Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Insurance
Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance
Recently, the S.184 No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of
2017 was read and referred to the Committee on Finance. With the newly elected President Donald
Trump in office, adjustments have begun to take place on the front end of abortion and what these
procedures and the insurance that covers them will look like going forward. The previously mentioned
bill would permanently prohibit federal funding, including District of Columbia funds, for abortion or
healthcare that includes abortion (Congress Wicker, 2017). The bill will amend the Internal Revenue
Code and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act by prohibiting health coverage from ... Show

Aside from the safe assumption that Americans especially those whom appose abortion don t want to
be funding abortions through their tax dollars, the efficiency of this bill would cover the loopholes that
may have been created by prior acts (Harned, 2015). The modifications this bill would bring about are
going to conserve the time in the future for other pressing issues that would otherwise be spent on an
issue that manages to be discussed redundantly.
The Severity of Abortion and its Role in the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act
Abortion is a one day procedure that can have important lifetime consequences. There is potential for
procedure failure as well as physical, emotional, or mental suffering, which is why there is a need for
some form of deterrence. In the hearing before the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice
of the committee on the Judiciary, House of Representatives, One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, it
was stated that this bill would restrict tax deductions for women who use their own money for
abortion or if they purchase insurance that covers abortion, in turn this will raise the tax for women
should they choose to make that decision (House of Representatives. Subcommittee on the
Constitution and Civil Justice. Committee on the Judiciary, 2014). This sort of disincentive would
ultimately make abortions more costly and may deter women from

Women and Sexuality in Aphra Behn s Poems Essay
Women and Sexuality in Aphra Behn s Poems
All women together ought to let flowers fall upon the tomb of AphraBehn, . .
. for it was she who earned them the right to speak their minds. (Woolf 91)
Born in 1640, AphraBehn broke gender stereotypes when she undertook a thrilling
(if unrewarded) life as a spy for the Crown, but it was her scandalous career as
an author which truly achieved many firsts for women. She was the first woman to
supporthereself financially by solely relying on the profession of writing, and
many readers argue that Oroonoko her passionate tale about the institution of
slavery was the first English novel. She was certainly one of the first female
authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise pursued, in The Disappointment, Behn s young
virginal maiden takes her sexual destiny into her own hands (literally), leaving
her would be lover impotent, an outcast from what used to be his realm of power.
Thus in The Willing Mistress and The Disappointment, Behn confers power to
women by creating an environment of sexual freedom in which female sexuality is
natural, strong, comfortable, and driven by pure desire.
In the Middle Ages, if a woman wanted to express herself in writing, she was
limited to expressions of religious faith, as were Julian of Norwich and Margery
Kempe. Any rapture described in the literature of this period was usually
reserved for Christ, prompted by the ecstatic realization of an eternal life. In
the 16th and 17th centuries, women writers were still largely limited in how
they were permitted to express themselves. While writing about love became more
socially acceptable, most examples still presented a romanticized perspective in
which passion was inextricably linked to emotional involvement. There are
glimpses of sexuality, such as when Anne Bradstreet in A Letter to Her Husband,
Absent Upon Public Employment refers to her children as those fruits which
through [her husband s] heat I bore and yearns for him to return and warm her
chilled limbs (Lines 14; 11). However, even this

Abbreviations And Initialisms In The NASA
At the core of each topic presented in the lectures was a persistent effort to both, interpret conventions
as well as recognize and understand their exceptions. Heidi Harley s essay Why is it the CIA but not
*the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions explores the conventions of how
acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition, Harley identifies
patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically, embedded within the title is
a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and initialisms are treated as proper
nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley s methodology primarily uses a corpus compromised of
about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used elicitation for more gray area cases of
abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. Initially, I reasoned that CIA is performed with the
determiner the , in a definite description structure, since it is initialized, while in contrast, NASA is an
acronym. Furthermore, I noted that this difference may stem from the fact that an acronym forms an
abbreviation that is pronounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, if the abbreviation is an initialism it would tend to retain the categorical status of their
source phrase (Harley 370), i.e. the definite description, the CIA, and the Central Intelligence Agency.
However, if the abbreviation is an acronym, like NASA, it tends to shift from a noun phrase with a
definite description to a proper noun. Harley notes that this tendency is so prevalent that it essentially
has the force of a rule. (Harley 370) Additionally, Harley noted that a main class of exceptions for
initialisms include bare location nominals (377), which is beyond this course but provides a
substantial logic for

The Issue Of Hate Crimes
Rashawn Augustin
Soc 308
One of the major problems that we are facing in the world are hate crimes. Despite this being a major
issues, there appears to be no solution in sight to put a stop to hate crimes. For this paper I chose to
focus on hate crimes I can gain more knowledge about this topic and because it s something that I
have personally experienced. Throughout U.S. history, a significant proportion of all murders,
assaults, and acts of vandalism have been fueled by hatred. As Native Americans have been described
as the first hate crime victims, members of all immigrant groups have been subjected to
discrimination, harassment, and violence.
When people think of hate crimes they often mention the KKK and African Americans or Hitler and
Jewish people. To be exact, a hate crime is known to us a bias motivated crime which is usually
motivated by race, religion, sexuality etc that typically involves violent acts. There are various forms
of hate crimes that occur throughout the world. A few examples of this are racist hate crimes,
homophobic hate crimes, religious hate crimes, transgender hate crimes, and even disability hate
crimes. Every hour, a crime motivated by the perpetrator s bias against the victim occurs in the United
States. These hate crimes terrorize whole communities by making members of certain classes whether
racial minorities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people, religious minorities or people
who are perceived to be members of

Problem The Social Work Practice with Latinos: Key Issues for Social Workers, a scholarly article,
states that the Latino population is becoming the largest minority group in the United States (Furman,
Negi, Iwamoto, Rowan, Shukraft, Gragg, 2009). Individuals in this population are often living under
the poverty line, at greater risk for no health insurance or assistance, and underserved by other
services. Latinos are less likely to seek services because they are cautious of their cultural beliefs,
doubt towards the government, and interventions tend to be different than their values and beliefs

How to Lie with Statistics by Darrel Huff
I just finished reading really interesting book, How to lie with Statistics by Darrel Huff. This books is
all about a good cheat sheet to cheat with numbers. The moment someone mentions Statistics, the
most often seen reaction is a big yawn or a sigh of disbelief. This is because people come across all
kinds of statistical interpretations all the time such as in advertisement or marketing journals. This
sense of disbelief is because the reader can not verify the truthfulness behind presented numbers. The
assumption always is that the person talking about the number or statistics knows what he or she is
talking about because it is proven fact by statistical studies. Even if that is not the case, it is very easy
to be lost among the number, when they are represented as an averages, percentages, year on year
growth, or percentage points which can make the person talking about these seem either very good or
very bad. And this does not seem to have changed from 1954, when the book was first published. The
book is about helping readers see throughout these marketing tricks. Also, to be able to ask the right
questions and when to dismiss a statistics as faulty. It is a field manual to beat the cheaters in their
worn game. This is a delightful book with just 150 pages and 10 chapters each with a specific theme.
The book starts with the origin of the statistics problems, the sample. Any statistics based on some
samples always going to have some sorts of bias, even if the person

A Brief Note On The Internal Revenue Service
The Internal Revenue Service is trying to preserve and protect the availability, confidentiality,
integrity, authentication, authorization and security controls of all employees and also the taxpayers.
In the context of IRS information security, availability is generally expressed as the amount of time
users can use a system, application and data, where user refers employees and taxpayers. Integrity
refers the validity and accuracy of data. For IRS, data and information are intellectual property assets.
Unauthorized changes can undermine the data s values which be a serious threat to an organizations.
Similarly, confidentiality protecting information from everyone except those with rights to it. IRS is
making online communication with users and employees in terms of enter private data into IRS web

Introduction of IRS The main mission of IRS is to make sure that all tax payers have access to all the
required documents and resources to obey with the tax laws, in order to do that the security controls
play vital role on organizations. Laws requires organization to use security controls to protect

Trauma In Adolescence
When examining at a broad scope, traumatic events are often linked to PTSD (Cepeda, Saint Onge,
Kaplan Valdez, 2010), but this is generally examined at the adult level. Hurricane Katrina took its
psychological toll on adolescents as well. Just as adults turn to substance use in stressful situations,
adolescents follow this same pattern (Beaudoin, 2011). Adolescents are particularly vulnerable in the
wake of a disaster (Wagner, Brief, Vielhauer, Sussman, Keane Malow, 2009). The exposures of this
disaster on adolescents lead to the development of destructive health behaviors. After disaster
adolescents, namely female adolescents, suffer interpersonal victimization (Wagner, Brief, Vielhauer,

steadily declining since the disaster (Beaudoin, 2011). A lot of women attribute limited resources as an

hurricane status played a role in protecting individuals, but with a majority of these victims
marginalized, this status did not prove to be beneficial (Lowe, Chan Rhodes, 2010). In some cases,
self sufficient adolescent children were able to provide support to their mothers, which helped to
relieve some pressures following the crisis (Lowe, Manove Rhodes, 2013) Nonetheless, adolescents as

The Sixties And The End Of Collapsing
In terms of the amount of political upheaval that took place, the 1960s is probably the most fascinating
decade post World War II to study historically. To understand how the country was almost at the brink
of collapsing, one must survey one of the prominent political actors during the decade: the student
movement. According to William H. Chafe in The Unfinished Journey, the student movement emerged
from the feeling that President John F. Kennedy s insistent call for the young to fulfill America s
unfulfilled promises was a mandate for action. Yet, the conclusions made about the student movement
in the 1960s are still contested today. David Steigerwald, author of The Sixties and the End to Modern
America scrutinizes the student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Chafe s use of the Port Huron Statement is more so a summary of the attitudes of the student
movement, Steigerwald offers a critique of the student movement s ambitions. Steigerwald does not
deny that the Port Huron Statement was bold, stating that its critiques of U.S. Cold War foreign policy
were both realistic and prescient and that the ideals presented in the statement were meant as an
antidote to the ills of bureaucratized society. Personal fulfillment was to be realized through civic
participation . However, Steigerwald argues that the deepest flaw of the student movement was that it
could encourage mere rebelliousness masquerading as radicalism, a phony radicalism that saw politics
as a vehicle for exhibitionism and self assertion rather than change . Steigerwald s critique questions
whether the student movement actually aimed to challenge the apparent status quo of the American
political landscape. Steigerwald s critique is in accordance with the larger historical critique of the
counterculture movement of the 1960s that the movement did not make the impact that it intended to
make. Chafe joins with Steigerwald on the critical

Management Reflection
Management skills play an imperative role in our lives and can be cultivated for a successful career
ahead in life. This program provided me an opportunity to work in a team and to overcome the
obstacles faced to produce deliverables. Through this course I have learnt how to resolve conflicts
with your colleagues and how tackle or avoid unforeseen problems while working in a group
environment.
I would like to focus more on my ability to adapt quickly to the diversity in a team as,
miscommunication hinders the growth of the team.
The team was formed using Tuckman s Team Model which has four following stages, Forming,
Storming, Norming and Performing. I have enlisted my views on how we formed the team and the
struggles we had to overcome. The team which was initially formed comprised of four people, later
we had two more addition to the team. The team members had a lot of anxiety in the beginning as we
were unknown to each other. To break the ice, I came up with an idea to plan an informal meet, to
make sure everyone was on the same page. Clear objectives were set and expectations from the
members were laid down.
During Week 1, we had the first team activity called Airplane Exercise . The appointed manager and
the designer for this task came up with a very different idea on the design of the aircraft. Eventually
we realized that the design was not feasible and the exercise was misinterpreted by us as a team, but
we were effective in changing the design quickly after our discussion with the professor. By this
activity I learned that how important it is to understand the requirement of the activity instead of
jumping to the solution. The other thing that I gathered from the group activity was not to panic when
you are on a strict timeline because it kills a lot of time.
As a team with diverse personalities and background, we had our inhibitions to express ourselves
freely to each other. Since everyone had a different approach to the problem at hand, we could not
reach to any consensus. To avoid problems, everyone was expected to stick to the agenda shared in the
course outline.
In the week 3, the personality test helped me to understand my team and their thoughts better. I
personally feel this was the time,

Technology Development In The Machine Stops By E. M. Forster
The Machine Stops by E.M Forster is a story that predicts the downfall of humanity through the
development of machinery. It is a story that captures the future and what may the future lead to if
humanity relays totally on technology development. A machine that controls everything around human
life leaving nothing else to do, anything humans want symbolizes a big role in the inhuman and
humanized part. Through these characters the reader could relate to Forster vision and consequences
that technology development may lead to in the future.
The main characters in the story Vashti the mother and the son Kuno, both represent a big role in the
story. Both of them represent the significations of the influence through the effects of technology
development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forster explains in his story, how that replacement of technology in the future will eventually bring the
result of extreme dehumanization and materialization. He uses the machine as a theme to symbolize
the consequences of technology development. The machine is set in this story to replace everything
that human needs. It fulfilled the needs of humans and also controlled everything around them.
Keeping all the people trapped underground forbidden to go to the surface of the earth. As if the
machine became a source of life, religion worship, ideas and law to control the live of human beings.
Explaining the idea in the story that technology will not only harm and destroy human beings it will
also destroy earth itself. Forster predication in this story is slightly coming true. Everything in our
word today, is being controlled by technology machinery. Half the populations of the world cant live
without technology development. Also this kind of Technology development is being harmful to
natural life and human life. Creating weapons and destructive machinery that could destroy the earth
and humans. Technology development has really increased so massively controlling mostly everything

Test Crt Should Be Used Rather Than Norm Referenced Tests
Criterion Referenced Tests CRT Should Be Used Rather Than Norm Referenced Tests NRT The
assessment looks at the wide variety of methods that educators use to evaluate and determined the
achievement of the student s educational need. The focus of this essay is to look at the Criterion
Referenced Tests (CRT) and the Norm Referenced Tests (NRT) usage to see why the Criterion
Referenced Tests should be used rather than the Norm Referenced Tests. The learning standards and
the curriculum will be discussed to help determine why the CRT should be used rather than the NRT.
Also, we will take a look at the principal use of how the two methods differ by one using survey
testing and the other mastery testing. I will give my informed opinion throughout the essay. The
Criterion Referenced Tests measure the performance against a fix set of predetermined learning
standards. This means that there will be written descriptions of what students are expected to know
and are able to do in each learning outcome unit stage in the course. This method of assessment is
done to evaluate what skills the student has learned. The learning standards will measure how well a
student has mastered the specific skill described in the national learning standards (Waugh Gronlund,
2013). Since the teachers and the schools can develop their own learning standards, this will help the
students to be able to accomplish the learning objective performance outcome expected in my opinion.

Harriet Tubman once said Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have

Analysis Of Martinrea s Debt And Equity Ratio
What is surprising, however, is that despite a 51% increase in long term debt during 2014, Martinrea s
debt to equity ratio actually decreased. A closer look at the notes to the financial statements reveals the
cause of this decrease. First, while long term debt increased significantly during 2014, the 12%
increase in overall liabilities was less significant. As the result of their purchase of the remainder of
Honsel Aluminum, Martinrea removed a liability from their balance sheet which previously
represented a put option that could force them to purchase this remaining portion. Martinrea ended up
making the purchase before this option was exercised, and the removal of this liability dampened the
increase in total liabilities. Second, the acquisition of Honsel significantly removed the equity
attributable to a non controlling interest, causing a 24% increase in equity attributable to the
shareholders of the company (despite total equity only increasing marginally). These two factors lead
to a decrease in Martinrea s debt to equity ratio.
Shareholder s Equity
Total shareholders equity increased $21,735,000 or 3.9% YoY. Capital stock and contributed surplus
increases were quite insignificant, but accumulated other comprehensive income increased 114.4%
YoY, and the accumulated deficit decreased $77,104,000 or 54.2% YoY. Other equity is now at zero
from ($154,239,000) last year (refer to financial liability) due to the final payment made for the
remaining 45% stake in Honsel

Beck s Theory Of Psychodynamic Research
History and Uses
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) grew out of dissatisfaction of certain therapists with traditional
psychoanalysis. Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis were both instrumental in the development of this
approach to psychotherapy (Van Bilsen, p. 7), though Beck, a psychoanalyst, is primarily credited with
its development. Beck did research on depression, in the 1950 s, which was intended to give evidence
in support of the theory that retroflected hostility was at the root of depression, but the research failed
to confirm his hypothesis. As a result, he expanded his research on depression and came to the
realization that depressed subjects held predictably negative thoughts about themselves, the future and

Beck, p. 3) Later in the book, he quotes the Stoic emperor, Marcus Aurelius as saying, If thou are
pained by any external thing, it is not the thing that disturbs thee, but thine own judgement about it.
And it is in thy power to wipe out this judgement now (Marcus Aurelius, quoted in A.T. Beck, p. 263)
In general, the Stoic philosophers believed that we should recognize the difference between things we
have power over and things that we have no power over. They taught that people are best served when
they put their energy into dealing with the things that lie within their control. This idea is succinctly
illustrated in the Serenity Prayer, used in numerous support groups. (Robertson, p. 20) One could say
that Beck s chief accomplishment was to take truths that had been known for centuries and apply them
in a way that was therapeutic. Although Ellis, Beck (and a few others) get a great deal of credit for the
creation of CBT, they freely admit to being influenced, not only by the ancient philosophers, but also
by earlier practitioners of the burgeoning art of psychotherapy. For example, referring to Paul Dubois
work around the turn of the century, Ellenberger said Dubois told of his method of treating phobias.
Emotions, he said, always follow ideas, so the treatment should go to the root, namely, the erroneous
idea the patient has allowed to creep into his mind (Ellenberger,

Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges
Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges
is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our world. Tlon,
Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon,
Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of
Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating
more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar,
and its literature. Tlon is an ideal world, which the reader later finds out, created by a secret society,
Orbis Tertius and has been equipped with its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot
seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in
Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects
with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely
doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is
not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it
causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this
same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what the reader knows to be real and what is
fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is fiction, but this comes in conflict with the
constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares,
Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that
are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the
story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes
through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As

A New Generational Anticoagulant Drug
A New Generational Anticoagulant
For many year s patients with atrial fibrillation have been treated with anticoagulants such as Warfarin
to prevent strokes and embolisms. Unfortunately, Warfarin must be closely monitored and that is an
irritant for some patients. In October 2010, the FDA approved a new generational anticoagulant drug
called Dabigatran (Pradaxa). This alternate medication gives patients the benefit of no dietary
restrictions since dabigatran is not affected by certain foods. Another benefit of taking dabigatran is a
monthly blood test is not required to measure its effectiveness, so for this particular reason many
patients switch from taking other anticoagulants to dabigatran (Talati White, 2011). Since this
medication does not require close monitoring, some wonder if is it truly a better option or can more
harm than good come from taking it. While the benefits of using dabigatran have shown significant
improvement over warfarin, there are still risks associated with using dabigatran. Atrial fibrillation is
the most common arrhythmia that puts patients at high risk for ischemic strokes. Doctors will
diagnosis atrial fibrillation by performing an electrocardiogram. The majority of patients that develop
atrial fibrillation are over the age of 65 years old and male. Atrial fibrillation can be characterized by
episodes of either paroxysmal or intermittent depending on frequency and length of time before
spontaneously stopping. It can also be persistent or

The First Clinical Experience Of A Nurse Essay
The First Clinical Experience
On an early morning in April, my friends and I arrived 45 minutes early to our long term care facility
in Scottsdale, Arizona. The three of us anxiously awaited stepping foot into the care facility as we had
no idea what was to come. I began to wonder what the patients would be like and how I would care
for them. Consequently, I could feel my heart pounding as I was afraid of hurting the residents and not
promoting healing from their ailments. I didn t know what illnesses or diseases would place
individuals in the healthcare unit in the facility. That terrified me. I wanted to know everything I could
about the residents prior to stepping foot in the building, but that knowledge wasn t attainable. While
trying to process my fears, I was thinking of the quote from Maya Angelou that says, As a nurse, we
have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of our patients, their families and
ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel. This lack
of knowledge scared me; however, I knew that regardless of what placed the residents on the unit, I
would care for them with respect and compassion.
Eventually the time rolled around to walk in the front door, and I was shaking with nerves. My
learning community of ten students and our instructor walked into the building, through many
hallways, and onto the unit our first nursing unit. We quietly walked through the center room, which
intersected the four

Why Was Lévi-Strauss Still Relevant Today
In this essay I will discuss why I believe that Claude Lévi Strauss work is still relevant today and I
will focus on the role that he assigns to the social anthropologist. Claude Lévi Strauss was the most
influential anthropologist theorist in France. His work which he contributed to anthropology still
remains to have significant relevance in todays contemporary anthropology. He was born on the 28th
of November 1908 and passed away on the 30th of October 2009. I will discuss his theory and what
he argued for and against. Anthropologists like Durkheim, De Saussure, Simiand, Rousseau, Jakobson
and Mauss and many more influenced Lévi Strauss when it came to his work. First I would like to
explain the term anthropology according to (Lévi Strauss, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lévi Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important. Firstly when
anthropologists discuss kinship they are concerned with social behaviours and not biological facts and
the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient to discuss kinship without
any reference to biology (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down kinship terms into individual
systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though it states that kinship does not have to
do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a child is related to their mother just like she is
to her sister. Lévi Strauss is interested in in the systems and not as much with terms of kinship. He
looks at the ties by which people are related, rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal
relationships. In society in order for a child to be seen as a legitimate child they need to have two
parents who are married. Society does not judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and
his/her parents but on the relationship between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into
the background for the most part in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as
everyone is always interested in your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of
great importance. Lévi Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter
and husband/wife, but he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast
between father/son and mother s brother/sister s son. According to Lévi Strauss in order for a kinship
structure to exist three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a
relation of affinity and a relation of descent. (Leach, 1973: 101). Through Lévi Strauss explanation of

Common law focuses in the old laws and takes it as source for any new for any new case and the basic
for this law is UK law system. On the other hand, Civil law is about organizing the relation between
the people in the same society and it is focusing in public law. However, I am going to compare

opinion, historical background, and source of law. This paragraph will take about the comparison
between common law and civil law in legal system. First of all, the common law in legal system is

The government was more interested in customs duties that they may generate from these incoming
goods, than in the control and regulation of the arrival and stay of foreigners. The functions of
immigration remained under the said bureau until 1937, when it was transferred again as a division
under the Bureau of Labor. This was mainly to respond to the arrival of Chinese nationals who owned
and operated trade houses, stores, and restaurants in the country. On 22 January 1940, the Second
National Assembly of the Philippine Commonwealth enacted the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940
(Commonwealth Act No. 613). It was signed into law by the President of the United States of America
on September 3, 1940, creating the Bureau of Immigration under the administrative supervision of the
Office of the President. A year or so later, it became an attached agency of the Department of Justice.
Later, its administrative control was returned to the Office of the President. When the Pacific war
broke out in December 1941, the Bureau, then under the Department of Justice, moved to the Bilibid
Prison in Azcarraga Street (now Claro M. Recto Avenue) which the Japanese Imperial Army declared
off limits to anyone during the occupation. Immediately after the war, the Bureau was transferred to
the Bacharach Building at Gate 1 of the South Harbor in Manila, then eventually was moved again to

Living A Healthy Lifestyle
Developing healthy behaviors can lead to a healthier lifestyle, but living a healthier life is an ongoing
process. Oftentimes people believe that they have achieved a healthy lifestyle once they have fixed
one specific health problem, but this is simply not true. In order to develop and achieve a healthy
lifestyle, it is pertinent to devote time creating healthy behaviors that can be maintained over an
extended period of time or indefinitely. Moreover, individuals must recognize that their nutrition and
physical activity can impact their health. Individuals who participate in regular physical activity will
see numerous benefits to not only their short term health, but also their long term health. On the other
hand, individuals who live a relatively inactive or sedentary lifestyle can see an increase in the
incidence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory
diseases (Hoeger, et al. 3). Furthermore, the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have
conducted studies that have found that almost 80 percent of the latter deaths could be prevented
through a healthy lifestyle program (Hoeger, et al. 3).
About a year ago, I went to the doctor with some health concerns and my doctor requested that I have
a blood test done. Through these tests, my doctor discovered that I have a high cholesterol of 256
mg/dL. She explained that she was mainly concerned with the fact that my LDL cholesterol was high
at 147 mg/dL.

Depravity In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Our world is full of vicious, hazardous and dangerous aspects of life, but if there is anything we
should be afraid of most, it is ourselves. William Golding s 1954 World War II novel, Lord of the
Flies, revolves around a group of English schoolboys whose plane crashes on an island after being
shot out of the sky. The wilderness and lack of pre existing society prompts them to develop a
civilization, but things turn sour and man s malign nature quickly takes hold. The Lord of the Flies is
not a physical being or object, but a representation of the idea that all humans are inherently evil and
deep rooted with masochistic, selfish instincts. Before one can understand how the Lord of the Flies
represents innate evil, it is important that the three constituents of man s depravity are explored. The
first of these elements is the conversion from civilization to savagery. During an assembly among the
boys on the island, they go back and forth talking while the others listen. Order recedes and there is a

intention of killing him with a spear sharpened on both sides. It is a ferocious skirmish at this point. In

the spear, and the savage doubled up (Golding 195). Amidst a merciless chase, both sides completely
lose all civility and become ferocious animals. They transform into beasts and aim to kill. Signs of
order are nowhere to be found, only the bloodlust of a group of raging berserkers. Man s evil has
reached its apex and the intensity of it could not be higher. This part of human nature is at its most
extreme point and the boys have gone from innocent schoolboys to wild creatures hungry for

The Importance Of Advertising And Marketing
The main goal of advertising and marketing is delivering the right message to the right person at the
right time. Having a strong an e commerce brand is vital for an e commerce business to be successful.
Marketing and advertising is almost as important as a brand. A major part to branding is how the
message is delivered. Advertisers have new and ingenious ways to get their advertising messages to
the consumer. Using the world wide web, social medias sites, display ads, video advertisements along
with mobile technology will increase visits and earnings to any e commerce site.
The number one way for e commerce sites to advertise is the world wide web. A website is a major
tool for launching the initial connection with a consumer. Google for example, is a major source of
online advertising. This site alone has over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per
year worldwide. To get an idea of companies advertising on the internet, there are close to one billion
websites on the Internet (Internet Live Stats, n.d. c).
Another ingenious way for an e commerce site to advertise is social media. Utilizing social media as a
marketing and advertisement involves promoting the brand and images directly to the consumers that
results in sales and services directly. With over 1 billion members, Facebook has a membership equal
to one sixth of the global population.
Mobile technology marketing and advertising tools involve the use of displays, banners, ads, search
engines,

Collection And Monitoring Of Particulate Matter
Collection and monitoring of Particulate Matter:
The aerodynamic properties of particles determine how they are transported in air and how they can
be removed from it. These properties also govern how far they get into the air passages of the
respiratory system. Additionally, they provide information on the chemical composition and the
sources of particles. Particles have irregular shapes and their aerodynamic behaviour is expressed in
terms of the diameter of an idealised sphere. The sampling and description of particles is based on this
aerodynamic diameter, which is usually simply referred to as particle size . Particles having the same
aerodynamic diameter may have different dimensions and shapes. Some airborne particles are over
10,000 times bigger than others in terms of aerodynamic diameter.
Based on size, particulate matter is often divided into two main groups: o The coarse fraction contains
the larger particles with a size ranging from 2.5 to 10 µm (PM10 PM2.5). o The fine fraction contains
the smaller ones with a size up to 2.5 µm (PM2.5). The particles in the fine fraction which are smaller
than 0.1 µm are called ultrafine particles.
Most of the total mass of airborne particulate matter is usually made up of fine particles ranging from
0.1 to 2.5 µm. Ultrafine particles often contribute only a few percent to the total mass, though they are
the most numerous, representing over 90% of the number of particles.
Airborne particulate matter represents a complex

Volatility Markets.
Introduction When the stock market goes up one day, and then goes down for the next five, then up
again, and then down again, that s what you call market volatility. Historically, the volatility of the
stock market is roughly 20% a year and 5.8% a month, but volatility keeps on changing, so we go
through periods of high volatility and low volatility. Analysts and experts have different opinions
about what you should do in volatile markets, and how to scope with stock market volatility or the
tendency for share prices rising and falling.

  • 2. What Is Abu Ghraib Unethical A prison located in Iraq, Abu Ghraib was occupied by United States army in the early 2000s, where Iraqi detainees and tortured. While the United States hoped to acquire information about terror in hopes to save a greater number of people, reducing other people to merely a means was unethical. In this review of the case of Abu Ghraib, I will examine various events and possible contributing factors to unethical treatments of prisoners. Further, This essay will explore two opposing perspectives for and against reasoning for tortures. To respond to the unethical nature of the guards behavior, I will apply Kant s method to ethics. Additionally, while trying to explain why the United States actions, I will refer to Utilitarianism. Lastly, This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... completely unethical. Immanuel Kant in his book Religion within the Bounds of Reason Alone (Part I: On the Indwelling of the Bad Principle along with the Good; or, On the Radical Evil in Human Nature) , explains evil as knowing the difference between good and evil and choosing to do evil. Some of the guards from Abu Ghraib stated they knew some of the abuse techniques where unreasonable however they want to head to do it. Additionally while trying understanding morality and society, Kant uses the categorical imperative. Kant s categorical imperative holds that to indicate whether an act is ethical, apply your maxim as a universal law if the result is positive then the act is acceptable. In the case study of Ghraib, Kant will respond by considering the result of making extreme torturous to gain information while dehumanizing people is made universal law. The torturous conduct by the prison guards cannot be a logical principle. Further more, referring to Kant s practical imperative, Act so that you use humanity, as much in your own person as in the person of every other, always at the same time as an end and never merely as means. • 3. Analysis Of Lou Kline In A Visit From The Goon Squad In a novel that jumps between periods of time and interchanges multiple characters, Lou Kline is one of the only consistent elements throughout the entirety of A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. Lou is first portrayed hostily as a abhorrent, egocentric man who fears growing older. In the next chapter, the reader s perception of Lou is altered from a sleazy man to a more paternal figure, and the reader understands that while Lou has done despicable things, he is not completely immoral. Altered again, the final image of Lou is that of pity as a dying man, his failures are recounted and he is therefore at his most vulnerable. Egan s non linear structure of the novel allows the reader to see multiple sides of Lou Kline through different character perspectives, and in the end amplify the merciless effect time has on a destructive urge to remain youthful and assert dominance to win at everything. Lou s youth is characterized by in the moment actions, an abundance of girls, and reckless living. Afraid of aging, he spends his whole life in this state of mind. Even on his deathbed he invites Rhea and Jocelyn, young girls from his past, to visit him in order to experience a final youthful atmosphere. The narrator, Rhea, describes Lou as having a surfer s face, connoting perceived inward youth while people looking at him would see his face had gone a little draggy under the eyes (Egan 60). He shows many signs of childishness and carelessness when he ignore[s] the rule to stay seated while the jeep is moving and again when he sees lions and proceeds to climb out of his seat with the others and they jam their upper upper halves through the open roof (Egan 66). This carelessness shows a lack of a sense of responsibility as not only an adult but also a father, as evidenced in his lack of care for Rolph s true personality and his passive aggressive attitude to Charlie as she defies him. When Charlie giggles and Lou asks her what s so funny, he mocks her answer: Life! Lou snorts. How old are you? Ironically this response is so childish that it makes the reader question the mental age of Lou himself. While Lou does show a more maternal side in this chapter, it is overtaken by his ... • 4. Legal Validity Of Natural Law Legal Validity in the View of Natural Law By: Micah A. Davis October 7, 2014 Abstract In this paper, I will propose that it is better to look at whether a law is legally valid or not through the perspective of natural law theory as opposed to positivist theory. My argument consists mostly of the language of improvement which can only exist based on the theory of natural law which states that law is something which has an objective truth behind it. Only when there is an objective mark to hit can there be hits and misses and I believe that positivism disregards the possibility of hits and misses entirely. So, my argument is that it makes more sense to consider legal validity of a law from the perspective of natural law rather than positive law because it includes not only the previously set up legal system when considering validity, but it also considers the general idea of some kind of morality as well. A sub argument is that the starting legal system must have had some basis by which to have been created and accepted which must be some form or notion of morality. Legal validity is how valid or forceful or authoritative a law is within a system ( Validity ). There are many different ways to interpret what it means when a law within a system changes. One way to view it is in a positivist perspective. That perspective claims that when a judge changes a law, he is simply stating it based on the words in the law and his interpretation of words, ... • 5. Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Insurance Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Recently, the S.184 No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017 was read and referred to the Committee on Finance. With the newly elected President Donald Trump in office, adjustments have begun to take place on the front end of abortion and what these procedures and the insurance that covers them will look like going forward. The previously mentioned bill would permanently prohibit federal funding, including District of Columbia funds, for abortion or healthcare that includes abortion (Congress Wicker, 2017). The bill will amend the Internal Revenue Code and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act by prohibiting health coverage from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aside from the safe assumption that Americans especially those whom appose abortion don t want to be funding abortions through their tax dollars, the efficiency of this bill would cover the loopholes that may have been created by prior acts (Harned, 2015). The modifications this bill would bring about are going to conserve the time in the future for other pressing issues that would otherwise be spent on an issue that manages to be discussed redundantly. The Severity of Abortion and its Role in the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act Abortion is a one day procedure that can have important lifetime consequences. There is potential for procedure failure as well as physical, emotional, or mental suffering, which is why there is a need for some form of deterrence. In the hearing before the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice of the committee on the Judiciary, House of Representatives, One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, it was stated that this bill would restrict tax deductions for women who use their own money for abortion or if they purchase insurance that covers abortion, in turn this will raise the tax for women should they choose to make that decision (House of Representatives. Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice. Committee on the Judiciary, 2014). This sort of disincentive would ultimately make abortions more costly and may deter women from ... • 6. Women and Sexuality in Aphra Behn s Poems Essay Women and Sexuality in Aphra Behn s Poems All women together ought to let flowers fall upon the tomb of AphraBehn, . . . for it was she who earned them the right to speak their minds. (Woolf 91) Born in 1640, AphraBehn broke gender stereotypes when she undertook a thrilling (if unrewarded) life as a spy for the Crown, but it was her scandalous career as an author which truly achieved many firsts for women. She was the first woman to supporthereself financially by solely relying on the profession of writing, and many readers argue that Oroonoko her passionate tale about the institution of slavery was the first English novel. Thus in The Willing Mistress and The Disappointment, Behn confers power to women by creating an environment of sexual freedom in which female sexuality is natural, strong, comfortable, and driven by pure desire. In the Middle Ages, if a woman wanted to express herself in writing, she was limited to expressions of religious faith, as were Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe. Any rapture described in the literature of this period was usually reserved for Christ, prompted by the ecstatic realization of an eternal life. In
  • 7. the 16th and 17th centuries, women writers were still largely limited in how they were permitted to express themselves. While writing about love became more socially acceptable, most examples still presented a romanticized perspective in which passion was inextricably linked to emotional involvement. There are glimpses of sexuality, such as when Anne Bradstreet in A Letter to Her Husband, Absent Upon Public Employment refers to her children as those fruits which through [her husband s] heat I bore and yearns for him to return and warm her chilled limbs (Lines 14; 11). • 8. Abbreviations And Initialisms In The NASA At the core of each topic presented in the lectures was a persistent effort to both, interpret conventions as well as recognize and understand their exceptions. Heidi Harley s essay Why is it the CIA but not *the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions explores the conventions of how acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition, Harley identifies patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically, embedded within the title is a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and initialisms are treated as proper nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley s methodology primarily uses a corpus compromised of about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used elicitation for more gray area cases of abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. Initially, I reasoned that CIA is performed with the determiner the , in a definite description structure, since it is initialized, while in contrast, NASA is an acronym. Furthermore, I noted that this difference may stem from the fact that an acronym forms an abbreviation that is pronounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if the abbreviation is an acronym, like NASA, it tends to shift from a noun phrase with a definite description to a proper noun. Harley notes that this tendency is so prevalent that it essentially has the force of a rule. (Harley 370) Additionally, Harley noted that a main class of exceptions for initialisms include bare location nominals (377), which is beyond this course but provides a substantial logic for ... • 9. The Issue Of Hate Crimes Rashawn Augustin Soc 308 One of the major problems that we are facing in the world are hate crimes. Despite this being a major issues, there appears to be no solution in sight to put a stop to hate crimes. For this paper I chose to focus on hate crimes I can gain more knowledge about this topic and because it s something that I have personally experienced. Throughout U.S. history, a significant proportion of all murders, assaults, and acts of vandalism have been fueled by hatred. As Native Americans have been described as the first hate crime victims, members of all immigrant groups have been subjected to discrimination, harassment, and violence. When people think of hate crimes they often mention the KKK and African Americans or Hitler and Jewish people. To be exact, a hate crime is known to us a bias motivated crime which is usually motivated by race, religion, sexuality etc that typically involves violent acts. There are various forms of hate crimes that occur throughout the world. A few examples of this are racist hate crimes, homophobic hate crimes, religious hate crimes, transgender hate crimes, and even disability hate crimes. Every hour, a crime motivated by the perpetrator s bias against the victim occurs in the United States. These hate crimes terrorize whole communities by making members of certain classes whether racial minorities, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people, religious minorities or people who are perceived to be members of ... Latino Social Work Case Study Problem The Social Work Practice with Latinos: Key Issues for Social Workers, a scholarly article, states that the Latino population is becoming the largest minority group in the United States (Furman, Negi, Iwamoto, Rowan, Shukraft, Gragg, 2009). Individuals in this population are often living under the poverty line, at greater risk for no health insurance or assistance, and underserved by other services. Latinos are less likely to seek services because they are cautious of their cultural beliefs, doubt towards the government, and interventions tend to be different than their values and beliefs (Ojeda, Flores, Meza, Morales, 2011). • 11. How to Lie with Statistics by Darrel Huff I just finished reading really interesting book, How to lie with Statistics by Darrel Huff. This books is all about a good cheat sheet to cheat with numbers. The moment someone mentions Statistics, the most often seen reaction is a big yawn or a sigh of disbelief. This is because people come across all kinds of statistical interpretations all the time such as in advertisement or marketing journals. This sense of disbelief is because the reader can not verify the truthfulness behind presented numbers. The assumption always is that the person talking about the number or statistics knows what he or she is talking about because it is proven fact by statistical studies. Even if that is not the case, it is very easy to be lost among the number, when they are represented as an averages, percentages, year on year growth, or percentage points which can make the person talking about these seem either very good or very bad. And this does not seem to have changed from 1954, when the book was first published. The book is about helping readers see throughout these marketing tricks. Also, to be able to ask the right questions and when to dismiss a statistics as faulty. It is a field manual to beat the cheaters in their worn game. This is a delightful book with just 150 pages and 10 chapters each with a specific theme. The book starts with the origin of the statistics problems, the sample. Any statistics based on some samples always going to have some sorts of bias, even if the person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Trauma In Adolescence When examining at a broad scope, traumatic events are often linked to PTSD (Cepeda, Saint Onge, Kaplan Valdez, 2010), but this is generally examined at the adult level. Hurricane Katrina took its psychological toll on adolescents as well. Just as adults turn to substance use in stressful situations, adolescents follow this same pattern (Beaudoin, 2011). Adolescents are particularly vulnerable in the wake of a disaster (Wagner, Brief, Vielhauer, Sussman, Keane Malow, 2009). The exposures of this disaster on adolescents lead to the development of destructive health behaviors. • 14. The Sixties And The End Of Collapsing In terms of the amount of political upheaval that took place, the 1960s is probably the most fascinating decade post World War II to study historically. To understand how the country was almost at the brink of collapsing, one must survey one of the prominent political actors during the decade: the student movement. According to William H. Chafe in The Unfinished Journey, the student movement emerged from the feeling that President John F. Kennedy s insistent call for the young to fulfill America s unfulfilled promises was a mandate for action. Yet, the conclusions made about the student movement in the 1960s are still contested today. While Chafe s use of the Port Huron Statement is more so a summary of the attitudes of the student movement, Steigerwald offers a critique of the student movement s ambitions. Steigerwald does not deny that the Port Huron Statement was bold, stating that its critiques of U.S. Cold War foreign policy were both realistic and prescient and that the ideals presented in the statement were meant as an antidote to the ills of bureaucratized society. Personal fulfillment was to be realized through civic participation . However, Steigerwald argues that the deepest flaw of the student movement was that it could encourage mere rebelliousness masquerading as radicalism, a phony radicalism that saw politics as a vehicle for exhibitionism and self assertion rather than change . Steigerwald s critique questions whether the student movement actually aimed to challenge the apparent status quo of the American political landscape. This program provided me an opportunity to work in a team and to overcome the obstacles faced to produce deliverables. Through this course I have learnt how to resolve conflicts with your colleagues and how tackle or avoid unforeseen problems while working in a group environment. I would like to focus more on my ability to adapt quickly to the diversity in a team as, miscommunication hinders the growth of the team. The team was formed using Tuckman s Team Model which has four following stages, Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing. I have enlisted my views on how we formed the team and the struggles we had to overcome. The team which was initially formed comprised of four people, later we had two more addition to the team. The team members had a lot of anxiety in the beginning as we were unknown to each other. To break the ice, I came up with an idea to plan an informal meet, to make sure everyone was on the same page. Clear objectives were set and expectations from the members were laid down. During Week 1, we had the first team activity called Airplane Exercise . The appointed manager and the designer for this task came up with a very different idea on the design of the aircraft. Eventually we realized that the design was not feasible and the exercise was misinterpreted by us as a team, but we were effective in changing the design quickly after our discussion with the professor. By this activity I learned that how important it is to understand the requirement of the activity instead of jumping to the solution. The other thing that I gathered from the group activity was not to panic when you are on a strict timeline because it kills a lot of time. As a team with diverse personalities and background, we had our inhibitions to express ourselves freely to each other. Since everyone had a different approach to the problem at hand, we could not reach to any consensus. To avoid problems, everyone was expected to stick to the agenda shared in the course outline. In the week 3, the personality test helped me to understand my team and their thoughts better. I personally feel this was the time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The focus of this essay is to look at the Criterion Referenced Tests (CRT) and the Norm Referenced Tests (NRT) usage to see why the Criterion Referenced Tests should be used rather than the Norm Referenced Tests. The learning standards and the curriculum will be discussed to help determine why the CRT should be used rather than the NRT. Also, we will take a look at the principal use of how the two methods differ by one using survey testing and the other mastery testing. I will give my informed opinion throughout the essay. The Criterion Referenced Tests measure the performance against a fix set of predetermined learning standards. This means that there will be written descriptions of what students are expected to know and are able to do in each learning outcome unit stage in the course. This method of assessment is done to evaluate what skills the student has learned. The learning standards will measure how well a student has mastered the specific skill described in the national learning standards (Waugh Gronlund, 2013). A closer look at the notes to the financial statements reveals the cause of this decrease. First, while long term debt increased significantly during 2014, the 12% increase in overall liabilities was less significant. As the result of their purchase of the remainder of Honsel Aluminum, Martinrea removed a liability from their balance sheet which previously represented a put option that could force them to purchase this remaining portion. Martinrea ended up making the purchase before this option was exercised, and the removal of this liability dampened the increase in total liabilities. Second, the acquisition of Honsel significantly removed the equity attributable to a non controlling interest, causing a 24% increase in equity attributable to the shareholders of the company (despite total equity only increasing marginally). These two factors lead to a decrease in Martinrea s debt to equity ratio. Shareholder s Equity Total shareholders equity increased $21,735,000 or 3.9% YoY. Capital stock and contributed surplus increases were quite insignificant, but accumulated other comprehensive income increased 114.4% YoY, and the accumulated deficit decreased $77,104,000 or 54.2% YoY. Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis were both instrumental in the development of this approach to psychotherapy (Van Bilsen, p. 7), though Beck, a psychoanalyst, is primarily credited with its development. Beck did research on depression, in the 1950 s, which was intended to give evidence in support of the theory that retroflected hostility was at the root of depression, but the research failed to confirm his hypothesis. As a result, he expanded his research on depression and came to the realization that depressed subjects held predictably negative thoughts about themselves, the future and the world around ... And it is in thy power to wipe out this judgement now (Marcus Aurelius, quoted in A.T. Beck, p. 263) In general, the Stoic philosophers believed that we should recognize the difference between things we have power over and things that we have no power over. They taught that people are best served when they put their energy into dealing with the things that lie within their control. This idea is succinctly illustrated in the Serenity Prayer, used in numerous support groups. (Robertson, p. 20) One could say that Beck s chief accomplishment was to take truths that had been known for centuries and apply them in a way that was therapeutic. Although Ellis, Beck (and a few others) get a great deal of credit for the creation of CBT, they freely admit to being influenced, not only by the ancient philosophers, but also by earlier practitioners of the burgeoning art of psychotherapy. For example, referring to Paul Dubois work around the turn of the century, Ellenberger said Dubois told of his method of treating phobias. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A New Generational Anticoagulant Drug A New Generational Anticoagulant For many year s patients with atrial fibrillation have been treated with anticoagulants such as Warfarin to prevent strokes and embolisms. Unfortunately, Warfarin must be closely monitored and that is an irritant for some patients. In October 2010, the FDA approved a new generational anticoagulant drug called Dabigatran (Pradaxa). This alternate medication gives patients the benefit of no dietary restrictions since dabigatran is not affected by certain foods. Another benefit of taking dabigatran is a monthly blood test is not required to measure its effectiveness, so for this particular reason many patients switch from taking other anticoagulants to dabigatran (Talati White, 2011). Since this medication does not require close monitoring, some wonder if is it truly a better option or can more harm than good come from taking it. Lévi Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important. Firstly when anthropologists discuss kinship they are concerned with social behaviours and not biological facts and the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient to discuss kinship without any reference to biology (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down kinship terms into individual systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though it states that kinship does not have to do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a child is related to their mother just like she is to her sister. Lévi Strauss is interested in in the systems and not as much with terms of kinship. He looks at the ties by which people are related, rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal relationships. In society in order for a child to be seen as a legitimate child they need to have two parents who are married. Society does not judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and his/her parents but on the relationship between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into the background for the most part in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as everyone is always interested in your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of great importance. Lévi Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter and husband/wife, but he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast between father/son and mother s brother/sister s son. According to Lévi Strauss in order for a kinship structure to exist three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a relation of affinity and a relation of descent. On 22 January 1940, the Second National Assembly of the Philippine Commonwealth enacted the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 (Commonwealth Act No. 613). It was signed into law by the President of the United States of America on September 3, 1940, creating the Bureau of Immigration under the administrative supervision of the Office of the President. A year or so later, it became an attached agency of the Department of Justice. Later, its administrative control was returned to the Office of the President. When the Pacific war broke out in December 1941, the Bureau, then under the Department of Justice, moved to the Bilibid Prison in Azcarraga Street (now Claro M. • 33. Living A Healthy Lifestyle Developing healthy behaviors can lead to a healthier lifestyle, but living a healthier life is an ongoing process. Oftentimes people believe that they have achieved a healthy lifestyle once they have fixed one specific health problem, but this is simply not true. In order to develop and achieve a healthy lifestyle, it is pertinent to devote time creating healthy behaviors that can be maintained over an extended period of time or indefinitely. Moreover, individuals must recognize that their nutrition and physical activity can impact their health. Individuals who participate in regular physical activity will see numerous benefits to not only their short term health, but also their long term health. On the other hand, individuals who live a relatively inactive or sedentary lifestyle can see an increase in the incidence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases (Hoeger, et al. 3). Furthermore, the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have conducted studies that have found that almost 80 percent of the latter deaths could be prevented through a healthy lifestyle program (Hoeger, et al. 3). About a year ago, I went to the doctor with some health concerns and my doctor requested that I have a blood test done. Through these tests, my doctor discovered that I have a high cholesterol of 256 mg/dL. She explained that she was mainly concerned with the fact that my LDL cholesterol was high at 147 mg/dL. ... • 34. Depravity In Lord Of The Flies Essay Our world is full of vicious, hazardous and dangerous aspects of life, but if there is anything we should be afraid of most, it is ourselves. William Golding s 1954 World War II novel, Lord of the Flies, revolves around a group of English schoolboys whose plane crashes on an island after being shot out of the sky. The wilderness and lack of pre existing society prompts them to develop a civilization, but things turn sour and man s malign nature quickly takes hold. The Lord of the Flies is not a physical being or object, but a representation of the idea that all humans are inherently evil and deep rooted with masochistic, selfish instincts. Before one can understand how the Lord of the Flies represents innate evil, it is important that the three constituents of man s depravity are explored. The first of these elements is the conversion from civilization to savagery. During an assembly among the boys on the island, they go back and forth talking while the others listen. Order recedes and there is a brutal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After one of Ralph s companions, Piggy, is killed by Jack s tribe, they begin to chase Ralph with the intention of killing him with a spear sharpened on both sides. It is a ferocious skirmish at this point. In an attempt to overcome one of the savages, Ralph launched himself like a cat; stabbed, snarling, with the spear, and the savage doubled up (Golding 195). Amidst a merciless chase, both sides completely lose all civility and become ferocious animals. They transform into beasts and aim to kill. Signs of order are nowhere to be found, only the bloodlust of a group of raging berserkers. Man s evil has reached its apex and the intensity of it could not be higher. This part of human nature is at its most extreme point and the boys have gone from innocent schoolboys to wild creatures hungry for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Collection And Monitoring Of Particulate Matter Collection and monitoring of Particulate Matter: The aerodynamic properties of particles determine how they are transported in air and how they can be removed from it. These properties also govern how far they get into the air passages of the respiratory system. Additionally, they provide information on the chemical composition and the sources of particles. Particles have irregular shapes and their aerodynamic behaviour is expressed in terms of the diameter of an idealised sphere. The sampling and description of particles is based on this aerodynamic diameter, which is usually simply referred to as particle size . Particles having the same aerodynamic diameter may have different dimensions and shapes. Some airborne particles are over 10,000 times bigger than others in terms of aerodynamic diameter. Based on size, particulate matter is often divided into two main groups: o The coarse fraction contains the larger particles with a size ranging from 2.5 to 10 µm (PM10 PM2.5). o The fine fraction contains the smaller ones with a size up to 2.5 µm (PM2.5). The particles in the fine fraction which are smaller than 0.1 µm are called ultrafine particles. Most of the total mass of airborne particulate matter is usually made up of fine particles ranging from 0.1 to 2.5 µm. Ultrafine particles often contribute only a few percent to the total mass, though they are the most numerous, representing over 90% of the number of particles. Airborne particulate matter represents a complex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
