3. Parallel Prefix Adder ( Ppa )
Abstract:
Parallel Prefix Adder (PPA) is one of the fastest types of adder that had been created and developed.
Some of the common types of parallel prefix adders are Brent Kung, Kogge Stone, Han Carlson and
Ladner Fischer adders. This paper involves an investigation of the performances of these adders in
terms of computational delay, interconnect usage and power. The investigation and comparison for all
these adders was conducted for 8 bit size. By using the XILINX 14.5 design software, the designs for
above mentioned adders were developed. The simulation result produced the vector waveform which
then shows the computational delay; interconnect usage and power for the adders. Hence, this project
is significant in showing which of these adders being tested perform better in terms of computational
delay, interconnect usage and power.
Key words: Low power; parallel prefix adder; carry save adder; ripple carry adder; han carlson adder
I. INTRODUCTION
The fundamental operations involved in any Digital systems are addition and multiplication. Addition
is an indispensible operation in any Digital, Analog, or Control system. Fast and accurate operation of
digital system depends on the performance of adders[1]. The main function of adder is to speed up the
addition of partial products generated during multiplication operation. Hence improving the speed by
reduction in area is the main area of research in VLSI system design. Over the last decade many types

4. The Motives Behind Us Overseas Imperialism
1. What were the motivations behind US overseas imperialism? Numerous motivating factors
contributed to US overseas imperialism, but the fundamental underlying cause was the fact that
powerful men within the US government, military and business strata craved power, expansion,
wealth, and most of all, world dominance. It began subtly, as prominent businessmen like Rockefeller
and J. P. Morgan began to realize that US consumership alone would not sufficiently sustain the
growing industries, volume of production and produce generated within the US. In order to achieve
the expansion and exponential growth of wealth they aspired to, a larger market was needed; a market
capable of absorbing the abundant surplus. The solution, they believed, was expansion into foreign
markets around the world. The realization, however, came with a stark reality: in order to obtain
access to overseas markets, the US would need to devise clever strategies to validate and facilitate
these aims. So, while power hungry business moguls were busy conjuring up plans as to how to bring
this about, government and military officials like Theodore Roosevelt, Senator Henry Lodge,
President McKinley and Captain A. T. Mahan sought to extend the political and military presence of
US forces around the world. The plan was to gain a foothold, and eventually be positioned to control
leaders and policies of overseas nations. Naturally, it was a plan that would require the careful
construction of outwardly logical

5. Academic Restructuring Plan Proposed for Next Gall
UTSA s proposed academic restructuring will benefit students by strengthening programs, increasing
program development, improving academic advising, and attracting and retaining faculty.
According to Dr. Guy Bailey, provost and vice president for academic affairs, the proposed academic
reorganization will implement a new college structure‹six colleges will replace UTSA s current four.
The new colleges will consist of the College of Business, College of Education and Human
Development, College of Engineering, College of Liberal and Fine Arts, College of Sciences, and
College of Urban Professional Programs.
Additionally, division directors will be replaced with rotating department chairs. That s a transition
that will take place over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bailey attributes the vacancies to the very complex and difficult duties of the division directors who
often deal with competing interests within the division.
Dr. Richard Tangum, architecture, became the latest of a handful of division directors to be replaced.
In this case, I think the lines of communication between this division director and this dean had
broken down, said Bailey, stressing the importance of communication between a division director and
a dean.
Though the change to smaller departments will not eliminate departmental miscommunication and
competing interests entirely, Bailey said it would help alleviate problems.
Bailey added that the current vacancies of division directors were one factor that lead the committee to
suggest a department based structure.
Eventually, many departments, such as communication and education, are scheduled to relocate to the
new Academic III Building, proposed to be completed by spring 2003. Concurrently, the department
of computer science is scheduled to move to the new Bioengineering Building set to be completed
around the same time as the Academic III Building.
In addition to restructuring UTSA s colleges, the university is currently searching for 69 tenured and
tenure track faculty members, 30 of which will fill new positions. Though the search for new faculty
members is underway, Bailey said typically those positions will not all be filled because of the

6. The Public Enemy By William Wellman
The Public Enemy by William Wellman (1931) is a renowned gangster film that paved the way for an
emerging genre whilst maximizing the use of sound technology of which the effects were still
reverberating around Hollywood in the 1930 s to amplify and exaggerate the narrative as well as other
elements such as mise en scene but also to assault audience with a new experience. The emergence of
an all talking gangster film that capitalized upon and left a lasting impression on the audience and on
society as it commented on social and economic issues that surrounded the American people such as
race and social status. However, at the time when The Public Enemy was released in 1931, Hollywood
was beginning to feel the effects of the Wall Street Crash, which meant that they began producing
films that their audience wanted to see and that we re affordable which lead to the rise of the gangster
genre, which flourished for the next few years. Ruth Vasey s assessment of The Public Enemy is
incredibly insightful into how sound impacted the film and its audience but also how sound was used
in correlation with the other elements of the film to create its visceral impact on the audience.
However with the introduction of sound, more obstacles we re discovered such as the issue of
censorship as it had a perceived capacity to undermine middle class vales .
The introduction of sound in the 1920 s had a colossal impact on the Hollywood Studio System and

7. Are Children Valued In The Past
Humans have always lived in social groups because of the necessities of each other. One point I found
interesting in this article was how children were valued and taken care of in the past. The reason why
children were highly valued in the past was because there were more caregivers available for each
child. This was due to the fact that people lived in multicultural and social groups focusing less on the
significance of personal space and privacy. All these individuals play a vital role in the child s
advancement and safety. Based on the article, a child under the age of six has roughly 4 to 5 caregivers
which are more than society has in this modern generation. Another point that fascinates me was how

The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States
The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public
education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement s success in the latter two is
highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on
behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success.
This paper discusses national trends that impact and influence the environmental lobby s ability to
achieve favorable electoral results, and the manner in which the lobby has responded to those trends.

From 1988 to 1992 40 50% of strong Republicans supported increased federal spending on the

After 1994, independent leaning Republicans and weak Republicans increased their support for
decreased environmental spending by roughly 10 percentage points each, bringing each group to 12
13% support for decreased spending. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2 8% to
roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the highly
partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The Republican Revolution of 1994
brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong Republicans would be more
likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and post 1994, the Republican Party
line was arguably more anti environmentalist. This willingness among strong Republicans to carry the
party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible for the widening gap between some
groups of traditional Republicans.
Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after
President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be
following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. The nation as a whole
was more supportive of environmental spending in 1988 than in most years, but even strong

In today s society, many ethical concerns arise on a daily basis, especially when it comes to the topic

determining whether smoking it should be considered unethical. However, many studies have shown
that the effects of marijuana are not as detrimental as they were once made out to be. Legalizing

Another principle includes restrictions on driving while under the influence of marijuana. NORML
stated, Although cannabis is said by most experts to be safer than alcohol and many prescription drugs
with motorists, responsible cannabis consumers never operate motor vehicles in an impaired condition
(NORML, 1996, para, 6). Therefore, the no driving principle is implied. These are two of the most
significant principles presented by NORML.
The next principle is described as set and setting. The NORML organization states, The responsible
cannabis user will carefully consider his/her set and setting, regulating use accordingly (NORML,
1996, para. 7). Meaning, adults should be responsible enough, when using marijuana, to take into
consideration several different aspects of one s life. For instance, it is important for marijuana users to
consider his or her set, meaning the individual s attitude, personality, and experience. The term setting
refers to an individual s physical and social condition or circumstances (NORML, 1996, para. 8).
Therefore, individuals should consider and analyze a number of factors before choosing to smoke or
just choosing to just say no. Two other principles presented by NORML include resisting abuse and
respecting the rights of others. Therefore, individuals should steer clear of any sign of abuse and
should not violate the rights of others when

pace. Many juveniles have committed crimes, that leads us to a variety of different perspectives on
this strong controversial topic. Which brings up the question should individuals under the age of 16
charged with felonies be tried as adults. In society today, they are indecisive over this subject. They
shouldn t be charged because of different factors that affects the minor s environment such as age and
maturity levels, psychological issues, and lifetime effects. Adolescents should be accountable for their
action and face any consequences that comes along with the crime they committed. Judges
contemplate that the minors need to understand that it won t be tolerated and any perpetrators caught
in any allegations will be prosecuted and arraigned in court. They believe if they break the law they
should have the responsibility for their actions to the full extent of the law. That they are not above the
law and age shouldn t be a reason why they should be taken leniently and should receive severe
punishments for their conduct. Emphasizing on the criminal act itself and not the delinquents age. To
them what matters most is for justice to be served and the form of punishment used. That they should

When I was young, my mom would tuck me and my siblings into bed. I shared a room with my two
sisters and my two brothers would always come into our room to hear the nightly bedtime story. My
mom or dad, depending on who was the least tired, would let us pick out a story for them to read
before we fell asleep. More than likely there was always some quarreling over whose turn it was to
choose the book. Starting off at a young age listening to stories started my literacy experience. Once I
learned to read on my own I almost always could be found reading Junie B. Jones, Amelia Bedelia or
Adventures of Cam Jansen. Once I finished all the books in the series of Junie B. Jones, written by
Barbra Parks, I started them over again. I read through the whole series 4 times before I became
disinterested. Once I stopped the easy reading books I lost interest in reading altogether. For the next
few years of my life I went without reading books other than the ones that were required for school. I
lost interest in reading, partially due to the choices of books. I did not like the idea that I was forced to
read a certain book. Until then I had only read for fun and as a leisure activity, but now having to read

17. A Brief Note On The Area Of Engine Position Management
1.1. Objective and Goal of the Project The project is done in the area of engine position management
which is used in gasoline 4 stroke engines. During the development of device drivers for the engine, it
is very important to test each and every feature of the device driver. Before going to the vehicle testing
or software integration, the device driver software has to be tested completely. For this purpose, mini
test benches can be used. This test setup should provide the necessary input signals to the driver
software which is to be tested. The main input signals needed for the testing includes crank sensor and
cam sensor signals. These signals help us to determine the crank and cam wheel positions and also
calculate the engine speed at which the engine is running at that particular time. The existing mini test
bench allows the engine speed information to be changed manually. The actual engine speed dynamics
in the real engine/vehicle cannot be simulated. They are not capable of changing the engine speed in a
specific pattern driven over time. They are not cost effective. The objective of this project comes from
disadvantages of the existing test equipments. The main aim is to create a mini test bench setup to
generate Cam and Crank Signals. The Setup should be able to allow testing of device driver software
without the need of Vehicle. It should allow engine speed to change manually. The setup should allow
the engine speed variation in a pre defined pattern without the

23. Chinese Immigrants In The Chinese Must Go
In The Chinese Must Go the cartoonist depicts the Chinese as running with a money bag to China
which symbolizes the American belief that Chinese laundrymen were exploiting the American
economy. The Chinese man is running from San Francisco to China with a bag of money in his hand,
which was likely earned from working in the laundry business, this can be inferred from the cleaning
tool in his arm and the stereotype of Chinese immigrants being laundrymen. This depiction makes
sense given the historical period, because the Chinese primarily labored in lower paying industries and
firms... such as domestic and laundry work. (Almaguer 171) The Chinese immigrants were subject to
lower paying professions because the whites saw the Chinese presence

25. An Autobiography of What He Went Through as a Slave in The...
The Narrative Perspective of Frederick Douglass The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an
autobiography written by Frederick Douglass himself. No one knows the hardships and difficult times
that Frederick Douglass went through as a slave, better than himself. That is why Frederick Douglass
is considered to be, in my opinion, is the most reliable author when it comes to telling the story of his
life as a slave. Frederick Douglass was born in Talbot County, Maryland around the year 1817 or
1818. Soon after Douglass was born, he was separated from his mother and was sent to Baltimore to
work as a servant. Since he was separated from his mother at such a young age, Douglass did not
develop a bond with her. After her death, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frederick Douglass appears to be rather smart and well minded compared to the other slaves. He was
briefly taught how to read and write by Sophia Auld. Once Sophia s husband, Douglass master, found
out she was teaching him how to read and write, he immediately ordered her to stop teaching.
Douglass stated, The very decided manner with which he spoke, and strove to impress his wife with
the evil consequences of giving me instruction, served to convince me that he was deeply sensible of
the truths he was uttering . What he most dreaded, that I most desired. What he most loved, that I most
hated. That which to him was a great evil, to be carefully shunned, was to me a great good, to be
diligently sought; and the argument which he so warmly urged, against my learning to read, only
served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn (Douglass). That quote by Frederick
Douglass is very powerful, and goes to show how strong his motivation was to better his life. Soon
after that, Douglass was able to teach himself a bit more on how to read and write. He was a smart
man, and he was very knowledgeable. After seeing the gruesome shooting of Demby by Mr. Gore,
Douglass was able to reenact the scene, explaining all of the little details he witnessed. In a way, he
used this to his advantage. He used the gruesome stories of the terrible things that happen to other
slaves, to provide a valid argument about how evil and

The Greatest
Is Tom Brady the greatest QB of all time ? The question a 13 year old boy had asked his father asked
as they sat down to watch the Bills VS Patriots game after the two had arrived home from a basketball
game. Almost everybody around New England think s so .The father answered . As they watched the
game they constantly talked about how well he was playing. Just making players that everybody said
are An amazing player appear as idiots.
Later, after watching the Patriots win 41 25 and watching Tom Brady have an impressive game they
listened to players stats it stunned me how well Tom Brady did without making it look like he wasn t
putting any effort in to it. He threw for 315 yards and 4 touchdowns with no interceptions. But this isn

Work with the following assumptions: i. EBITDA forecasts: use values given from Exhibit 8.
However, I expect you to briefly comment on the reasonableness of those forecasts (especially given
past performance and efficiency of the company s operations), and possibly provide a simple analysis
of the sensitivity of your EBITDA growth assumptions to the value of OLC. ii. Depreciation and
capital expenditures: OLC assets are primarily intangible, and the proportion of fixed to total assets is
very small (see Exhibit 3). Therefore, for the sake of simplicity, assume that both capital expenditures
and depreciation is zero (note that even the casewriter assumes zero depreciation, since taxes are paid
on EBITDA in Exhibit 8. Therefore, in this case, EBITDA=EBIT!) iii. Tax rate: 44% (Exhibit 2,
Exhibit 8) iv. Assume a five year forecast period (1998 2002) and the terminal growth of 4%. Note,
however, that the market for supplemental education will likely be very competitive in the long run. v.
WACC estimation: use data from Exhibit 9. Since OLC is a private company, you ll have to use a pure
play approach using data from Exhibit 4 to estimate OLC s beta (you are more than welcome to adjust
the OLC beta up/down considering special OLC s risks/advantages). Assume that OLC will have no
debt in its capital

2.1 Scholars definitions of Chinglish
Joan Pinkham considers that Chinglish, of course, is that misshapen by hybrid language that is neither
English nor Chinese but that might be described as English with Chinese characteristics .(Joan
Pinkham, 2000:1)
Ge Chuangui claims that Chinglish is basically correct in the aspects of grammar and words and
understandable in the meaning, but clearly it stems from Chinese thinking patterns and English
speakers never use English in that way. (葛传椝,1980:23)
Deng Yanchang points out that Chinglish is speech or writing in English or writing in English that

communication and cultural exchanges. With the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and
western countries, Chinglish will increasingly wither away.
Xie Zhijun considers that there two aspects in China English: better acceptability and weak
acceptability. China English with better acceptability is closer to standard English and China English
with weak acceptability is closer to Chinglish. Chinglish can be transformed into China English. The
difference between China English and Chinglish only lies in if it is in favor of communication and
acceptable to English speakers. (谢之君,1994:64)
Xie Shengliang pointed out that Both China English and Chinglish are English used among Chinese
people, but pertain to different variants of English, enjoying particular characteristics relevant to
Chinese language and culture .(Xie Shengliang,

29. Sociological Explanations of Unequal Distributions of...
Sociology Homework: Examine the sociological explanations of unequal distributions of wealth and
income in contemporary Britain (24 marks)
There are five main sociological explanations of unequal distributions of wealth and income in
contemporary Britain that I will be discussing as well as explaining within this essay.
One sociological explanation for the unequal distribution of wealth and income in contemporary
Britain is because it is necessary for the maintenance of society. This is argued by functionalists such
as Davis and Moore who suggest that inequality in wealth and income is very significant due to the
fact that some jobs are seen as more functionally important than others. As well as this, they believe
that meritocratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this theory can be criticised as it only looks at inequality within class and not inequality
within gender, age or other aspects. In addition to this this theory also fails to explain inequality within
men and women from different cultural and traditional backgrounds.
A further explanation is because of market situation of individual workers in the labour market. This is
argued by a social theorist in the name of Weber, who suggested that wealth and income inequality
occurs because some jobs have high rewards due to the fact that they are associated with strong trade
unions. Other reasons are because of how high the demand is or because of key attributes needed in
order to undertake a job. A prime example would be people employed to undertake transport services
e.g train or bus drivers. On average Train drivers get around £ 41,000 a year while nurses or school
secretaries get around 15 27,000 a year. We see that this is the case because train drivers are linked to
trade unions such as the TLC which help make the decisions of striking or protesting if something is
wrong and its difficult for the government to oppose transport workers as a lot of people rely on tubes
and buses to get to work and if trains and buses don t operate then no money will go towards the
government. This links to contemporary Britain because some jobs don t give high

make the right decisions and judgements. Just because they are leaders or experts doesn t make their
claims automatically correct. It is necessary for people to challenge against the authority they are

period in America.
In Fahrenheit 451, the protagonist Guy Montag is a firefighter who lives in a society where books
have been outlawed by a government fearing an independent thinking public. The firefighter is now
seen as a flamethrower, a destroyer of books rather than an insurance against fire. Until one day when

31. The Beatles Hey Jude Poetic Techniques
The Beatles, Hey Jude manipulates the verse bridge structure until the coda, where the chorus finally
appears. This is different to all the other songs I have analysed, since September, Cry Me A River and
Heart Of Gold have a verse chorus form. Also, one difference between this song and the other songs is
that it is in a Major key (F Major), and the rest of the songs are in a Minor Key. The Major key helps
to create to the clear, and confident style to the song, which is represented in this song. This song is
the only song to include an extremely complex structure, containing interludes between each verse and
bridge. This something none of the other songs include.
Led Zeppelin s, Stairway To Heaven, contains a call and response between the 12 string and the
telecaster Electric Guitar in the solo of this song, this is widely used in rock music, and works so
successfully in this song as it helps to create suspense and movement within the music. In my opinion
it appears to represent two people calling out to each other expressing their feelings. Another song has

An example of the rhyming within the song, that first captured my ears, is using the title September

which will make it easier for the listener to remember. Metaphors and rhyming are also used within
the song, like for example our hearts were ringing your heart can t actually ring, but it s a way of
describing the way the two people felt about each other in that moment of time. The following line In
the key that our souls are singing , Here, he rhymes ringing with singing at the end of the line. This

Why do I want to become a teacher, you ask? Well a teacher is a very important role model for many
childrens and parents as well. You can either have a very positive or negative impact on the students.
Growing up in an Asian household, teachers were well respected and was loved by parents, despite
them being good or bad. To my parents teachers are always right, I grew up to believe otherwise. I
want to become a teacher and be the teacher who will not disappoint my students. I want to plant a
strong seed in my students, so they can grow and expand from it. I want to teach because I want to
educate students of Basic Skills, to support the students in and outside of school with the needs to be
successful, I also want to see diversity in the educational field.

I really connect with this type of teachers. So my experiences in their classroom really inspire me to
become a teacher who care for their students, and build a connection where the students is comfortable

33. Persuasive Essay On The San Diego Zoo
If your child s birthday is quickly approaching, you might be wondering how to celebrate. A party at
home, whether just as a family or with the kid s friends, can be fun, but sometimes it is fun to do
something beyond just cake and ice cream at home. If you are looking for something other than a
party at home or even just pizza at your kid s favorite pizza parlor, consider these three birthday party
options in San Diego.
San Diego Zoo
For kids who enjoy animals, the San Diego Zoo is a fun birthday celebration option. Their Australian
Outback birthday bash includes admission to the zoo, lunch, and birthday cake. The kids will also get
the opportunity to interact with some of the zoo animals and be entertained by some of the zoo s staff
members. Unfortunately for older children, the Australian Outback Birthday Bash was only created for
children up to 10 years old.
It does not have to be your child s birthday to go to the zoo, though. The San Diego Zoo was ranked
by Trip Advisor as the #1 Zoo in the World in 2015, and it consistently ranks as one of the Top Ten
zoos in the world. Whether you are bringing along a large group of kids for your child s birthday
celebration or you are simply going as a family, you can expect to see some of your favorite animals,
including giant pandas, a Komodo dragon, and flamingos. You can even see unique animals, such as
the okapi, which looks a bit like a mix of a zebra and a giraffe.
