Introduction :
A Brain computer Interface (BCI) is
a Direct communication pathway between a
Human or animal brain( or Brain cell
culture) and an External Device.
Sometimes called a Direct Neural
Interface or a Brain Machine Interface
(BMI).
Goal:
Enabling People (especially disabled) to
communicate and control device by mere thinking.
History of BCI :
 The History of BCI starts with
HANS BERGER’S discovery of the
electrical activity of the Human
brain and the development of
ElectroEncephaloGraphy (EEG).
 In 1924 Berger was the first to
record human brain activity by
means of EEG.

History of BCI :
Jacques vidal started BCI
Research in year 1970 at university
of California Los Angles.
In 2003,BCI was commercially
developed by CyperKinetics Bio-
Tech company.
In 2013,Duke university
successfully connected direct brain
to brain Interface of the two rats.

How the BCI works..?
Types of BCI :
 Invasive BCI
 Partially Invasive BCI
 Non-Invasive BCI
Invasive BCI :
Invasive BCI are implanted
directly into the grey matter
of the brain during
Neurosurgery.
 It built the scar tissue.
Partially Invasive
BCI :
Partially Invasive BCI are
implanted inside the skull
but rest outside the brain
rather than within the grey
matter.
 Low risk for Scar tissue.
Cathy Hutchinson
Non-Invasive BCI :
Non-Invasive BCI do not
involve Neurosurgery.
 Easy to wear
Application :
Disabled people to communicate
Device Control
Safe and Security
Gaming & Entertainment
Advantage :
BCI made easier life for the Physically
(or)mentally disabled peoples.
It has significant role to play in future genetic
Engineering field & Neuroscience.
Transmit auditory data to the mind of deaf
person,allowing them to use.
Allow the paralysed patient to control
prosthetic limb with their mind.
Disadvantage :
 High Cost
Slow speed
Require extensive training
Virus attack may occur & causing ill effect to
Brain.
Conclusion :
 Open Gate for Disable peoples.
BCI for totally paralyzed person.
A Potential therapeutic tool.
Enable People to communicate and
control appliance with use of brain signal.
