Abstract
Heat treatment is the process of heating of metals (aluminum A356) to change their physical
and mechanical properties, without change the shape of nail gun. Company manufacture nail gun
by casting process. They use gravity die casting process and then apply T6 heat treatment
process to any nail gun. Problem actually occurs in heat treatment furnace (drop bottom quench
furnace).when we put nail gun by simply arranging in furnace (by cage or basket) for T6 heat
treatment process. The bending and distortion is occurs in nail gun’s properties are remove.
Company wants to solve the problem so we try to solve the problem of bending. Company and
my team take a decision to DESIGNING OF FIXTURE FOR HEAT TREATMENT
PROCESS. Fixture design for fix all the degree of freedom of nail gun. Nail gun have a two
circular part so fixture fix the circular part. Fixtures have a male part and nail gun have a female
part. so we try to solve the problem by designing in solid works and cero type 3 d software. After
designing we try to analysis on design. If design is safe so we can use it for heat treatment
process(heat treatment furnace).fixture design gives the benefit to industry.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 PROBLEM SUMMARY AND INTRODUCTION
The gravity die casting process technique is permanent molding technique widely used for the
manufacturing of castings parts made of non-ferrous alloys such as aluminum, magnesium and
copper. The project related aluminum material nail gun is cast by gravity die casting process.
heat treatment is the heating and cooling of metals to change their physical and mechanical
properties, without letting it change its Heat Treatment shape.T6 heat treatment cycle is used for
manufacturing of nail gun. Heat treatment process needs furnace so we use the “DROP
BOTTOM QUENCHING FURNACE”. In this process nail gun is arranged in cage or basket
after casting process is completely done(also inspection of casting).nail gun casting take a next
step regarding to heat treatment process. Now cage is in a drop bottom quenching furnace then
start the process of heat treatment.Set up the 625 celcious temperature in drop bottom quenching
furnace.but then time to check the result and then result is “BENDING OF NAIL
GUN”.company can’t afford it so best solution is to make a FIXTURE for a specific material
“NAILGUN”.
All FIXTURE are designed to hold a workpiece in position firmly and accurately during a
manufacturing process and uses it for 15–20 years without much change or redesign, except for
changes to the programming required to process different workpieces. Fixtures, however, are
among the tooling components (with cutting tools, coolant, inspection tools, etc.) that
manufacturing engineers (actually even product and production development engineers) must
deal with in daily production, to achieve production quality, lowest production cost, and
optimum efficiency. Skillfully executed fixture design contributes significantly to product
quality, reduced cycle time, and minimum production cost.

SALITER P a g e | 10
If CAFD(COMPUTER AIDED FIXTURE DESIGN) technology were fully implemented, it
would be much easier to perform such evaluation work in the production planning stage, and
production system development time could be much reduced before launching a new production
system. It’s also possible that the CAFD technology is mature enough to replace the use of
testing fixtures in the mass-production ramp-up stage, which will certainly offer significant
economic benefit. If any potential mistake can be identified during the early stage, it will lead to
significant cost saving, when compared to finding the mistake later on in the production stage.

1.2 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT
Our main aim is to design a better fixture for fix the nail gun and remove all the failure of its
properties. We try to give even volume of heat to nail gun for strongly applied all the properties
of aluminum product (A356).now a days fixture designing is easy by the use of different
software of designing(cad,cam,cafd,solid works,creo,ansys) and also analysis(solid
works, creo, ansys) on them to check the efficiency of fixture(heat treatment fixture) in every
practical usage of fixture. cafd is the computer aided fixture design method which can be used
by every industrial, manufacturing company for fast working on them. We try to design a fixture
and compare with old one by usage of the softwares and analysis on nail gun fixture design. The
object of this invention is to fix the nail gun foe get even value of heat in furnace and don’t
remove its all properties.

WHICH PROCESS IS REQUIRED FOR NAIL GUN CASTING PROCESS?
There are so many types of die casting process is apply for the nail gun manufacturing process.
 Sand casting
 Gravity die casting
 Low pressure die casting
 Pressure die casting
So we discuss about the steps of gravity die casting process. Material aluminum A356 use a
gravity die casting process .it is productive and time reducing process.

1.3 PROBLEM SPECIFICATION
T6 heat treatment process is applied to nail gun .nail gun (in cage) is first of all kept in a drop
bottom quenching furnace. When heat is supplied to nail gun its shape suddenly change so it is
the biggest problem for any industry or casting manufacturing company. There are irregular or
un even type of heat is supplied in furnace. So here the problem specification is given below
 bending occurs
 batch size reduce
 distortion occurs
 irregular shape
 wastage of time
 toughness effect
 hardness effect
 higher production cost
Then when quenching process is occurs its material properties get changed. Now take a
decision to fix the nail gun for get the even type of heat for strong the material and usage for
better production cycle. Fixture designing is also challenging but now a days cafd (computer
aided fixture design )is very famous for future production. Try so many designs and analysis it
for use in drop bottom quenching furnace .we try to get better and better result of nail gun and
solve to remove the bending, distortion, irregular shape.

1.4 LITERATURE REVIEW:-
(1) A study on design of fixture for valve body for CNC machine published by
Paper Number:2348-4470 and proposed by K.M.Viramgama (AITS,Rajkot)
,R.D.Makwana (ITS, Rajkot) states that A fixture is designed and built to hold, support and
locate every component to ensure that each is drilled or machined with accuracy and
manufactured individually. The fixture designing and manufacturing is considered as complex
process that requires the knowledge of different areas, such as geometry, dimensions, tolerances,
procedures and manufacturing processes. This paper will give brief overview about the 3-2-1
locating principle to design the fixture for complex parts and other clamping principles. This
paper also gives the idea and procedure for fixture design. This paper gives the idea about the
modular fixture and dedicated fixture.
(2) Advanced Fixture for Angular Drilling On Cylindrical Objects published by Paper
Number:2248-9622 and proposed by Nikhil. G. Lokhande, C.K. Tembhurkar (G.H.Raisoni
college of Engineering, Nagpur) states that Applications such as in defense sector,
manufacturing of grenade fuse required angular holes on fuse body, producing holes in turbine
blades for the aerospace industry, generating micro-holes in diesel fuel injection nozzles etc.
requires angular drilling. Trepanning, gun drilling are the operations available for drilling at
specific angle, but they can be useful when drilling angle should be less than degree. The job
having a cylindrical shape and number of holes are required on it at an angle is challenging task
for design engineer and hence Computer Aided Fixture Design (CAFD) is incorporated in
manufacturing industry. It deals with the integration of CAD and CNC programming in CAM
systems using software for fixture design. Except V block, no other option is available to hold
cylindrical object and hence special type of fixture is designed for this case, which can be used
for angular drilling. In this paper, a literature survey of computer aided fixture design and
automation over the past decade in an introduction is given on the fixture applications in
industry. Then, significant works done in the CAFD field, including their approaches and
customer requirements are discussed.

Professor, Mechanical Engineering Dept. Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran,
Mohali states that The study was done on the defects of the steering nut which was rejected due
to incorrect setting up of machine tool on special purpose machine and mishandling of
component during heat treatment stage. Keywords use for the project is steering nut, cnc, back
boring, grooving, defect. Conclusion of the project states that In the modified process, boring,
back boring, threading and grooving is done after the heat treatment i.e. the component is sent
for heat treatment without threading and grooving. Boring, back boring, threading and grooving
operation is carried out on CNC turning Center.
(4) Design & Development of Fixture for Lathe Machine Reviews published by Paper
Number:2348-5264 and proposed by A. L. Dudhatra, S. S. Jani states that Machine tool
industry has undergone with various changes to meet the requirement of customer and to
manufacture the complex parts. The fixtures were developed for various machining process.
Fixture study had begun in 1940’s.The basic requirement of the fixture is to locate and hold the
component incorrect orientation to constrain degree of freedom so that manufacturing processes
can be easily carried out. According to the use of fixtures, dedicated and modular fixtures can be
generated. To design a fixture, various phases for fixture designing such that planning, design
and assembly are to be explored. Over the past decade, much focus has been put on intelligent
methods for computer aided fixture design to seeka technical breakthrough in embedding more
design knowledge into semiautomatic or automatic system.

1.6 MATERIAL SELECTION
1.6.1 MATERIAL SELECTION FOR NAIL GUN
We use the aluminum A356 grade for a better gravity die casting process.
Always A356 process is useful for a t6 heat treatment process.
Now we learn every aspects about the A356 properties.
 Mechanical properties
 Tensile strength
 Ductility
 Fatigue test
 Composition of A356
 Hardness test
 Elongation
 Microstructural analysis
 Method of casting
 Mechanical properties
 Castings made of A356(aluminum) exhibit many benefits such as wear and corrosion
resistance, hot tearing resistance, good weld ability and high strength to weight ratio.
 The mechanical properties are dependent on the microstructures of the casting.
 The commonly practiced methods in foundry to enhance the mechanical properties of Al-
Si castings are grain refinement and modification. Grain refinement is done by adding Ti-
B or Ti-C based grain refiners into the melt to refine the grain size of the casting into
fine-equiaxed structure, whereas modification is to inoculate the melt with modifier
containing strontium to change the silicon morphology from acicular flake to fibrous,
resulting in improved ductility and toughness.

1.6.3 MATERIAL SELECTION OF FIXTURE
Material selection for designing of fixture is very challenging because heat is applied in furnace
and fixture is kept in furnace.
There are two materials are given below:
o STAINLESS STEEL
o MILD STEEL
TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN
SALITER P a g e | 27
So first of all we talk about the stainless steel
 Stainless steel does not corrode and rust with water.
 Stainless steel also resists salt water corrosion better than aluminum bronze or
copper nickel alloys.
 Low maintenance
 We can use in jewelry and watches
 Stainless steel offer higher strength
 It is hygienic due to the smooth and minimally porous surface.
 It has excellent fatigue and impact resistance.
Now we talk about the MILD STEEL properties
 It is tough
 It is ductile
 It is malleable
 It has good tensile strength but poor corrosion resistance.
 Mild steel has a yield strength of 60,200 pounds per square inch(psi),a tensile
strength of 78,300 psi,
 Modulus of elasticity of 29,000 psi

3.1 DESIGN PROCEDURE FOR NAIL GUN
1.AIM OF DESIGN
Our main aim is to design a fixture for remove the bending.
2.MECHANISM
there are so many linkages or mechanisms for the fixture design. Degree of freedom can given
to every part of the drawing. Kinematics joints can be applied in to fixture.
3.ANALYSIS OF FORCES
Find the forces acting on each member of the machine and the energy transmitted by each
member.

4.MATERIAL SELECTION
we use the stainless steel or mild steel for the material of whole fixture.
5.DESIGN OF ELEMENTS
Find the size of each member of the machine by considering the force acting on the member and
the permissible stresses for the material used. It should be kept in mind that each member should
not deflect or deform than the permissible limit.
6.DESIGN MODIFICATION
Modify the size of the member to agree with the past experience and judgment to facilitate
manufacture. The modification may also be necessary by consideration of manufacturing to
reduce overall cost.
7.DETAILED DRAWING
it is the main part in machine design of fixture We can analyze by this softwares and we can also
apply all the practical effort on it.if failure is occur we reject it.if analysis is successful then we
can use it in practically. Now a days this fixture design is called “CAFD(COMPUTER AIDED
FIXTURE DESIGN)
8.ANALYSIS OF FIXTURE DESIGN
it is useful for analysis the capability of fixture to stay in heat treatment furnace. Analysis take
the command which is given by you then check the practically possibility of their work.

3.2 Solid works drawing and creo implementation
This is the main step for designing of fixture. Solid works is the 3 d drawing software for
specially mechanical engineering industries . solid works have a inbuilt so many features to
allow every aspects of our design.when we put any mistakes in design solid works give us a
message that if we design a fixture like this then failure of fixture is occurs also industrial faculty
give us a advice about
Fixture design and basic knowledge about solid works and creo software.
We designing a fixture after 2 weeks of dedication and then check it in software ansys but
bending is again occurs. now we again designing for tken back to nail gun’s properties.we try it
in a creo software. creo software is also a very sharp software .first of all we think about the
female part of the nail gun –two holes are basic part of the nail gun.we think and decide to put
the male part of the fixture which is joint the female part of the nail gun and fix the female parts.
then we design the linkages of the fixture .we watch the design data book for mechanical
engineers for a better angle of a fixture.it is give a benefit for a future work and long durability.
Now you can see the fixture design.in a figure 3(A) and 3(b)

CHAPTER 3.3 ANALYSIS ON FIXTURE FOR NAIL GUN
So after designing of fixture we must have to check it in a ansys software for secure
practically use.we check it in a so many phases given below.we analysis on a edges of a nail gun
because nail gun edge is very thin and very effective part.if we are not successful in that portion
then our whole process is worth less.we also check it by given a mesh effect in the ansys
software. Here mesh effect always check all the part of the nail gun and give a result for the
stress and thermal effect of nail gun.very less percentage of bending is occurs so this effect is
successful.

CHAPTER 4
CONCLUSION
4.1 summary of the result
 Fixture design in 3 d software is the new type of method used in manufacturing
industries.
 Old method use for designing is very time consuming. T6 heat treatment process takes
more and more time for given a result. Here we use the drop bottom quenching
furnace. Sometime at a 625 celcious temperature distortion of nail gun and bending of
nail gun is occurs we solve the problem by given a even value of heat to the nail gun.
Fixture fix the degree of freedom so nail gun can’t give a direction pressure on each
other.
 We choose the stainless steel material for design of fixture.
 Stainless steel is the best material for heat treatment process capability.
 We try all the forces on the fixture by using computer aided fixture design method.
 We use the solid works software and cero software for the design of it.it is very hard
to choose every aspects of design .we check every kinematics and kinetic properties
of fixture. We also check it for thermal analysis and result is very positive.
 Designing in creo software in the designing by every part of the fixture. We check
every part for the designing parameters. When we create a part in designing we can
understand the problem occurs in heat treatment furnace.
 We find all the fixture design related to it then make a design for a nail gun.
 Here nail gun s two circular parts are fixed by male part of the fixture design so that
nail gun can’t move in any direction .also nail gun can’t move in backward direction.
So nail gun is safe in drop bottom quenching furnace.
 We analysis in ansys software .
 Analysis report is safe. We check bending and thermal analysis in ansys software.
TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN
SALITER P a g e | 52
 We also check for even temperature of the furnace. So bending is also occurs from
temperature.
 Finally fixture design is complete in designing software and design of fixture for nail
gun is safe. Nail gun s heat treatment process is possible and nail gun get their all the
properties .
 Now, bending of nail gun, distortion of nail gun, stress effect of nail gun,un even
temperature of nail gun is never occurs .
 We also increase the batch size for one heat treatment cycle.
 When we increase batch size of nail gun it directs effect on productivity on company.
 So designing of fixture gives so many benefits to any company.
4.2 Future scope
 Every casting related company can use it and increase quality of
the products.
 Fixture is the very essential neccessaey for any industries.and this
type of basket and fixture can use in heat treatment process.
 Heat treatment fixture can make in a different softwares so it is
easy to check it in a practical usage of heat treatment process.
 Fixture design can change as per product and increase productivity
and fixture is reduce the time for any material for heat treatment
process.
 This is the future for computer aided fixture design for heat
treatment fixture design and every industries adopt the idea
behind it.
 Fixture don’t move any material so it is benefit for proper heat
gain by any material so future of any distortion problem to any
materials can reduce or effectivey remove.

We can compare both the method with fixture and without fixture
SERIAL
NUMBER
Without fixture With fixture
1 Cage is used for arrangement of nail gun in drop
bottom quenching furnace.
Cage and fixture both use for arrangement of
nail gun in drop bottom quenching furnace
2 Quality reduce Quality is best for manufacturing
3 Bending occurs without fixture Bending and distortion is never occurs
4 Uneven value of heat given to nail gun Even value of heat is supplied to nail gun
5 Productivity reduce Productivity is high
6. Distortion is occurs and uneven heat is achieved
to nail gun
Distortion is never occurs and uneven heat is
never supplied to nail gun
7. Without fixture remove all the aluminum a356
properties from nail gun
With fixture nail gun gets all the aluminum
a356 properties and very strong after the
heat treatment process.

  • 5. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 5 Abstract Heat treatment is the process of heating of metals (aluminum A356) to change their physical and mechanical properties, without change the shape of nail gun. Company manufacture nail gun by casting process. They use gravity die casting process and then apply T6 heat treatment process to any nail gun. Problem actually occurs in heat treatment furnace (drop bottom quench furnace).when we put nail gun by simply arranging in furnace (by cage or basket) for T6 heat treatment process. The bending and distortion is occurs in nail gun’s properties are remove. Company wants to solve the problem so we try to solve the problem of bending. Company and my team take a decision to DESIGNING OF FIXTURE FOR HEAT TREATMENT PROCESS. Fixture design for fix all the degree of freedom of nail gun. Nail gun have a two circular part so fixture fix the circular part. Fixtures have a male part and nail gun have a female part. so we try to solve the problem by designing in solid works and cero type 3 d software. After designing we try to analysis on design. If design is safe so we can use it for heat treatment process(heat treatment furnace).fixture design gives the benefit to industry.

  • 9. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 9 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 PROBLEM SUMMARY AND INTRODUCTION The gravity die casting process technique is permanent molding technique widely used for the manufacturing of castings parts made of non-ferrous alloys such as aluminum, magnesium and copper. The project related aluminum material nail gun is cast by gravity die casting process. heat treatment is the heating and cooling of metals to change their physical and mechanical properties, without letting it change its Heat Treatment shape.T6 heat treatment cycle is used for manufacturing of nail gun. Heat treatment process needs furnace so we use the “DROP BOTTOM QUENCHING FURNACE”. In this process nail gun is arranged in cage or basket after casting process is completely done(also inspection of casting).nail gun casting take a next step regarding to heat treatment process. Now cage is in a drop bottom quenching furnace then start the process of heat treatment.Set up the 625 celcious temperature in drop bottom quenching furnace.but then time to check the result and then result is “BENDING OF NAIL GUN”.company can’t afford it so best solution is to make a FIXTURE for a specific material “NAILGUN”. All FIXTURE are designed to hold a workpiece in position firmly and accurately during a manufacturing process and uses it for 15–20 years without much change or redesign, except for changes to the programming required to process different workpieces. Fixtures, however, are among the tooling components (with cutting tools, coolant, inspection tools, etc.) that manufacturing engineers (actually even product and production development engineers) must deal with in daily production, to achieve production quality, lowest production cost, and optimum efficiency. Skillfully executed fixture design contributes significantly to product quality, reduced cycle time, and minimum production cost.
  • 10. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 10 If CAFD(COMPUTER AIDED FIXTURE DESIGN) technology were fully implemented, it would be much easier to perform such evaluation work in the production planning stage, and production system development time could be much reduced before launching a new production system. It’s also possible that the CAFD technology is mature enough to replace the use of testing fixtures in the mass-production ramp-up stage, which will certainly offer significant economic benefit. If any potential mistake can be identified during the early stage, it will lead to significant cost saving, when compared to finding the mistake later on in the production stage.

  • 12. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 12 1.2 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT Our main aim is to design a better fixture for fix the nail gun and remove all the failure of its properties. We try to give even volume of heat to nail gun for strongly applied all the properties of aluminum product (A356).now a days fixture designing is easy by the use of different software of designing(cad, cam, cafd, solid works, creo, ansys) and also analysis(solid works, creo, ansys) on them to check the efficiency of fixture(heat treatment fixture) in every practical usage of fixture. cafd is the computer aided fixture design method which can be used by every industrial, manufacturing company for fast working on them. We try to design a fixture and compare with old one by usage of the softwares and analysis on nail gun fixture design. The object of this invention is to fix the nail gun foe get even value of heat in furnace and don’t remove its all properties.

  • 15. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 15 WHICH PROCESS IS REQUIRED FOR NAIL GUN CASTING PROCESS? There are so many types of die casting process is apply for the nail gun manufacturing process.  Sand casting  Gravity die casting  Low pressure die casting  Pressure die casting So we discuss about the steps of gravity die casting process. Material aluminum A356 use a gravity die casting process .it is productive and time reducing process.

  • 17. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 17 1.3 PROBLEM SPECIFICATION T6 heat treatment process is applied to nail gun .nail gun (in cage) is first of all kept in a drop bottom quenching furnace. When heat is supplied to nail gun its shape suddenly change so it is the biggest problem for any industry or casting manufacturing company. There are irregular or un even type of heat is supplied in furnace. So here the problem specification is given below  bending occurs  batch size reduce  distortion occurs  irregular shape  wastage of time  toughness effect  hardness effect  higher production cost Then when quenching process is occurs its material properties get changed. Now take a decision to fix the nail gun for get the even type of heat for strong the material and usage for better production cycle. Fixture designing is also challenging but now a days cafd (computer aided fixture design )is very famous for future production. Try so many designs and analysis it for use in drop bottom quenching furnace .we try to get better and better result of nail gun and solve to remove the bending, distortion, irregular shape.

  • 19. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 19 1.4 LITERATURE REVIEW:- (1) A study on design of fixture for valve body for CNC machine published by Paper Number:2348-4470 and proposed by K.M.Viramgama (AITS,Rajkot) ,R.D.Makwana (ITS, Rajkot) states that A fixture is designed and built to hold, support and locate every component to ensure that each is drilled or machined with accuracy and manufactured individually. The fixture designing and manufacturing is considered as complex process that requires the knowledge of different areas, such as geometry, dimensions, tolerances, procedures and manufacturing processes. This paper will give brief overview about the 3-2-1 locating principle to design the fixture for complex parts and other clamping principles. This paper also gives the idea and procedure for fixture design. This paper gives the idea about the modular fixture and dedicated fixture. (2) Advanced Fixture for Angular Drilling On Cylindrical Objects published by Paper Number:2248-9622 and proposed by Nikhil. G. Lokhande, C.K. Tembhurkar (G.H.Raisoni college of Engineering, Nagpur) states that Applications such as in defense sector, manufacturing of grenade fuse required angular holes on fuse body, producing holes in turbine blades for the aerospace industry, generating micro-holes in diesel fuel injection nozzles etc. requires angular drilling. Trepanning, gun drilling are the operations available for drilling at specific angle, but they can be useful when drilling angle should be less than degree. The job having a cylindrical shape and number of holes are required on it at an angle is challenging task for design engineer and hence Computer Aided Fixture Design (CAFD) is incorporated in manufacturing industry. It deals with the integration of CAD and CNC programming in CAM systems using software for fixture design. Except V block, no other option is available to hold cylindrical object and hence special type of fixture is designed for this case, which can be used for angular drilling. In this paper, a literature survey of computer aided fixture design and automation over the past decade in an introduction is given on the fixture applications in industry. Then, significant works done in the CAFD field, including their approaches and customer requirements are discussed. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 25 1.6 MATERIAL SELECTION 1.6.1 MATERIAL SELECTION FOR NAIL GUN We use the aluminum A356 grade for a better gravity die casting process. Always A356 process is useful for a t6 heat treatment process. Now we learn every aspects about the A356 properties.  Mechanical properties  Tensile strength  Ductility  Fatigue test  Composition of A356  Hardness test  Elongation  Microstructural analysis  Method of casting  Mechanical properties  Castings made of A356(aluminum) exhibit many benefits such as wear and corrosion resistance, hot tearing resistance, good weld ability and high strength to weight ratio.  The mechanical properties are dependent on the microstructures of the casting.  The commonly practiced methods in foundry to enhance the mechanical properties of Al- Si castings are grain refinement and modification. Grain refinement is done by adding Ti- B or Ti-C based grain refiners into the melt to refine the grain size of the casting into fine-equiaxed structure, whereas modification is to inoculate the melt with modifier containing strontium to change the silicon morphology from acicular flake to fibrous, resulting in improved ductility and toughness.

TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 41 4.MATERIAL SELECTION we use the stainless steel or mild steel for the material of whole fixture. 5.DESIGN OF ELEMENTS Find the size of each member of the machine by considering the force acting on the member and the permissible stresses for the material used. It should be kept in mind that each member should not deflect or deform than the permissible limit. 6.DESIGN MODIFICATION Modify the size of the member to agree with the past experience and judgment to facilitate manufacture. The modification may also be necessary by consideration of manufacturing to reduce overall cost. 7.DETAILED DRAWING it is the main part in machine design of fixture We can analyze by this softwares and we can also apply all the practical effort on it.if failure is occur we reject it.if analysis is successful then we can use it in practically. Now a days this fixture design is called “CAFD(COMPUTER AIDED FIXTURE DESIGN) 8.ANALYSIS OF FIXTURE DESIGN it is useful for analysis the capability of fixture to stay in heat treatment furnace. Analysis take the command which is given by you then check the practically possibility of their work.

Solid works is the 3 d drawing software for specially mechanical engineering industries . solid works have a inbuilt so many features to allow every aspects of our design.when we put any mistakes in design solid works give us a message that if we design a fixture like this then failure of fixture is occurs also industrial faculty give us a advice about Fixture design and basic knowledge about solid works and creo software. We designing a fixture after 2 weeks of dedication and then check it in software ansys but bending is again occurs. now we again designing for tken back to nail gun’s properties.we try it in a creo software. creo software is also a very sharp software .first of all we think about the female part of the nail gun –two holes are basic part of the nail gun.we think and decide to put the male part of the fixture which is joint the female part of the nail gun and fix the female parts. then we design the linkages of the fixture .we watch the design data book for mechanical engineers for a better angle of a fixture.it is give a benefit for a future work and long durability. Now you can see the fixture design.in a figure 3(A) and 3(b)

TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 47 CHAPTER 3.3 ANALYSIS ON FIXTURE FOR NAIL GUN So after designing of fixture we must have to check it in a ansys software for secure practically use.we check it in a so many phases given below.we analysis on a edges of a nail gun because nail gun edge is very thin and very effective part.if we are not successful in that portion then our whole process is worth less.we also check it by given a mesh effect in the ansys software. Here mesh effect always check all the part of the nail gun and give a result for the stress and thermal effect of nail gun.very less percentage of bending is occurs so this effect is successful.

  • 51. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 51 CHAPTER 4 CONCLUSION 4.1 summary of the result  Fixture design in 3 d software is the new type of method used in manufacturing industries.  Old method use for designing is very time consuming. T6 heat treatment process takes more and more time for given a result. Here we use the drop bottom quenching furnace. Sometime at a 625 celcious temperature distortion of nail gun and bending of nail gun is occurs we solve the problem by given a even value of heat to the nail gun. Fixture fix the degree of freedom so nail gun can’t give a direction pressure on each other.  We choose the stainless steel material for design of fixture.  Stainless steel is the best material for heat treatment process capability.  We try all the forces on the fixture by using computer aided fixture design method.  We use the solid works software and cero software for the design of it.it is very hard to choose every aspects of design .we check every kinematics and kinetic properties of fixture. We also check it for thermal analysis and result is very positive.  Designing in creo software in the designing by every part of the fixture. We check every part for the designing parameters. When we create a part in designing we can understand the problem occurs in heat treatment furnace.  We find all the fixture design related to it then make a design for a nail gun.  Here nail gun s two circular parts are fixed by male part of the fixture design so that nail gun can’t move in any direction .also nail gun can’t move in backward direction. So nail gun is safe in drop bottom quenching furnace.  We analysis in ansys software .  Analysis report is safe. We check bending and thermal analysis in ansys software.
  • 52. TEAM ID: 66605 FIXTURE DESIGN FOR HEAT TREATMENT OF NAIL GUN SALITER P a g e | 52  We also check for even temperature of the furnace. So bending is also occurs from temperature.  Finally fixture design is complete in designing software and design of fixture for nail gun is safe. Nail gun s heat treatment process is possible and nail gun get their all the properties .  Now, bending of nail gun, distortion of nail gun, stress effect of nail gun,un even temperature of nail gun is never occurs .  We also increase the batch size for one heat treatment cycle.  When we increase batch size of nail gun it directs effect on productivity on company.  So designing of fixture gives so many benefits to any company. 4.2 Future scope  Every casting related company can use it and increase quality of the products.  Fixture is the very essential neccessaey for any industries.and this type of basket and fixture can use in heat treatment process.  Heat treatment fixture can make in a different softwares so it is easy to check it in a practical usage of heat treatment process.  Fixture design can change as per product and increase productivity and fixture is reduce the time for any material for heat treatment process.  This is the future for computer aided fixture design for heat treatment fixture design and every industries adopt the idea behind it.  Fixture don’t move any material so it is benefit for proper heat gain by any material so future of any distortion problem to any materials can reduce or effectivey remove.
