A practical approach to eliminate defects in gravity die cast al alloy castin...eSAT Journals
Abstract
This paper deals with elimination of defects in aluminium alloy castings produced by gravity die casting process. The main intention of work is to investigate the defects and improve quality of a gravity die cast component using Computer Aided Casting Simulation Software. In this study an industrial gravity casting die is used which was producing defective components. The die and components produced by the die are studied to eliminate the defects using virtual simulations. The defects in the components are identified to be solidification shrinkage, cracks, unfilled riser and incomplete mould cavity. The reasons for the defects are analyzed as either improper selection of process parameters, or improper design of gating and risering system. SOLIDCast simulation software is used for simulating the solidification process of casting and visualizing outputs showing possible problematic areas or defects which may occur in the cast product. The work is carried out in two stages. In first stage, few test castings are produced by modifying the process parameters (pouring temperature, pouring time, pre heat and alloy type) and results are compared with simulation results produced using same parameters. The pouring and simulation results are observed to be in good accordance with each other. In second stage, number of virtual iterations of casting is performed by changing riser dimensions. It was found from the simulation results that riser with 35mm diameter is required to produce casting with zero defects. The die is modified accordingly with the simulation results and metal is poured. The castings produced are observed to be sound and contain no defects; and also it is verified that solidification simulation helps in locating the defects, eliminating them and ultimately improving the quality of castings without any shop-floor trails.

Estimation Of Optimum Dilution In The GMAW Process Using Integrated ANN-SAIJRES Journal
To improve the corrosion resistant properties of carbon steel usually cladding process is used. It is a process of depositing a thick layer of corrosion resistant material over carbon steel plate. Most of the engineering applications require high strength and corrosion resistant materials for long term reliability and performance. By cladding these properties can be achieved with minimum cost. The main problem faced on cladding is the selection of optimum combinations of process parameters for achieving quality clad and hence good clad bead geometry. This paper highlights an experimental study to optimize various input process parameters (welding current, welding speed, gun angle, contact tip to work distance and pinch) to get optimum dilution in stainless steel cladding of low carbon structural steel plates using Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). Experiments were conducted based on central composite rotatable design with full replication technique and mathematical models were developed using multiple regression method. The developed models have been checked for adequacy and significance. In this study, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Simulated Annealing Algorithm (SA) techniques were integrated labels as integrated ANN-SA to estimate optimal process parameters in GMAW to get optimum dilution.

Design and Implementation of TARF: A Trust-Aware Routing Framework for WSNsijsrd.com
The multi-hop routing in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) offers little protection against identity deception through replaying routing information. An adversary can exploit this defect to launch various harmful or even devastating attacks against the routing protocols, including sinkhole attacks, wormhole attacks and Sybil attacks. The situation is further aggravated by mobile and harsh network conditions. Traditional cryptographic techniques or efforts at developing trust-aware routing protocols do not effectively address this severe problem. To secure the WSNs against adversaries misdirecting the multi-hop routing, we have designed and implemented TARF, a robust trust-aware routing framework for dynamic WSNs. Without tight time synchronization or known geographic information, TARF provides trustworthy and energy-efficient route. Most importantly, TARF proves effective against those harmful attacks developed out of identity deception; the resilience of TARF is verified through extensive evaluation with both simulation and empirical experiments on large-scale WSNs under various scenarios including mobile and RF-shielding network conditions. Further, we have implemented a low-overhead TARF module in Tiny OS; as demonstrated, this implementation can be incorporated into existing routing protocols with the least effort. Based on TARF, we also demonstrated a proof-of-concept mobile target detection application that functions well against an anti-detection mechanism.

Hence, sliding mode control is a variable structure control method. The multiple control structures are designed so that trajectories always move toward a switching condition, and so the ultimate trajectory will not exist entirely within one control structure. Instead, the ultimate trajectory will slide along the boundaries of the control structures. The motion of the system as it slides along these boundaries is called a sliding mode and the geometrical locus consisting of the boundaries is called the sliding (hyper) surface. Rough Set based Natural Image Segmentation under Game Theory Frameworkijsrd.com
The Since past few decades, image segmentation has been successfully applied to number of applications. When different image segmentation techniques are applied to an image, they produce different results especially if images are obtained under different conditions and have different attributes. Each technique works on a specific concept, such that it is important to decide as to which image segmentation technique should for a given application domain. On combining the strengths of individual segmentation techniques, the resulting integrated method yields better results thus enhancing the synergy of the individual methods alone. This work improves the segmentation technique of combining results of different methods using the concept of game theory. This is achieved through Nash equilibrium along with various similarity distance measures. Using game theory the problem is divided into modules which are considered as players. The number of modules depends on number of techniques to be integrated. The modules work in parallel and interactive manner. The effectiveness of the technique will be demonstrated by simulation results on different sets of test images.

The proposed antenna leads to multi frequency operation makes it suitable for Wireless Communication applications.
Analysis of Residue Number System based PN sequence in AWGN channelijsrd.com
The successful use of CDMA technology is based on the construction of large families of encoding sequences with good correlation properties. This paper discusses PN sequence generation based on Residue Arithmetic with an effort to improve the performance of existing interference-limited CDMA technology for mobile cellular systems. All spreading codes with residual number system proposed earlier did not consider external interferences, multipath propagation, Doppler effect etc. In literature the use of residual arithmetic in DS-CDMA was restricted to encoding of already spread sequence; where spreading of sequence is done by some existing techniques. The novelty of this paper is the use of residual number system in generation of the PN sequences which is used to spread the message signal. The significance of cross-correlation factor in alleviating multi-access interference is also discussed. The RNS based PN sequence has superior performance than most of the existing codes that are widely used in DS-CDMA applications. Simulation results suggest that the performance of the proposed system is superior to many existing systems.
Model Development for Estimation of Failure Loads: A Case Study of Composite ...ijsrd.com
This paper deals with the study of failure loads of glass vinylester composite plates with a circular hole subjected to a traction force by a rigid pin. These are investigated for two variables, the ratio of distance from the free edge of the plate (E) to the diameter of the hole (D) and the ratio of width of the plate (W) to the diameter of the hole (D). The work consists of a numerical study of different specimens using finite element analysis package ANSYS. Also, a mathematical model has been developed to determine the failure loads of different geometry plates. The results obtained from the numerical study and the mathematical models are compared with experimental results from the existing literature and the correlations are observed for both. A comparison of the experimental results with the numerical model shows that the numerical model gives results with correlation co-efficient 0.96. A comparison of the experimental results with the mathematical model shows that the mathematical model gives results with correlation co-efficient 0.99. For estimation of the failure loads within the range of E/D and W/D considered for the study, the mathematical model developed, i.e., Full Cubic Model proves to be more efficient with the observed values of correlation co-efficient, Root Mean Square Error and Maximum Absolute Error.

Image segmentation Based on Chan-Vese Active Contours using Finite Difference...ijsrd.com
There are a lot of image segmentation techniques that try to differentiate between backgrounds and object pixels but many of them fail to discriminate between different objects that are close to each other, e.g. low contrast between foreground and background regions increase the difficulty for segmenting images. So we introduced the Chan-Vese active contours model for image segmentation to detect the objects in given image, which is built based on techniques of curve evolution and level set method. The Chan-Vese model is a special case of Mumford-Shah functional for segmentation and level sets. It differs from other active contour models in that it is not edge dependent, therefore it is more capable of detecting objects whose boundaries may not be defined by a gradient. Finally, we developed code in Matlab 7.8 for solving resulting Partial differential equation numerically by the finite differences schemes on pixel-by-pixel domain.
Analyzing and Comparing opinions on the Web mining Consumer Reviewsijsrd.com
Product reviews posted at online shopping sites plays a major role in improving performance of various enterprises. To assess the performance, the posted reviews must be of good quality. The good quality is judged by using certain criteria (rules) to be satisfied. The criteria (rules) should be applied on the online reviews or the documents collected based upon reviews. Thus, it is considered to be very difficult for decision-maker with an efficient post processing step in order to reduce the number of rules. This project proposes a new classification based interactive approach to prune and filter discovered rules to eliminate low-quality reviews. The proposed approach to enhance opinion summarization is done in a two-stage framework which is (1) discriminates low quality reviews from high-quality ones and (2) enhances the task of opinion summarization by detecting and filtering low quality reviews. For the sentiment factor, we propose Sentiment PLSA (S-PLSA), in which a review is considered as a document generated by a number of hidden sentiment factors, in order to capture the complex nature of sentiments. Training an S-PLSA model enables us to obtain a succinct summary of the sentiment information embedded in the reviews.

Catalytic Converter Made of Non-noble Material for an Automobileijsrd.com
This paper is reports on the review of catalytic converter made of non - noble material for an automobile. The converter made of the noble material is highly efficient but there is some major problem associated with these converters. First problem is the cost of the catalytic converter increased due to high cost of the noble material. Second problem is that they are operated at the higher temperature. Third problem is that the noble material is rarely available in earth crust and hence they are exhausted one day. Due to above problem associated with the noble material there is some option required for the noble material which is easily available at the lower cost. The non - noble material (Copper, Nickel, Zinc etc.) is perfect for the use into the catalytic converter instead of the noble material as they are easily available at low cost and operated at lower temperature than the noble material.

The injection molding process itself is a complex mix of time, temperature and pressure
variables with a multitude of manufacturing defects that can occur without the right combination of
processing parameters and design components. Determining optimal initial process parameter
settings critically influences productivity, quality, and costs of production in the plastic injection
molding (PIM) industry. Up to now, most production engineers have used trial-and-error method to
determine initial settings for a number of parameters, including melt temperature, injection pressure,
injection velocity, injection time, packing pressure, packing time, cooling temperature, and cooling
time which depend on the engineers’ experience and intuition to determine initial process parameter
settings. However, the trial-and-error process is costly and time consuming.
The world of manufacturing world is broadly classified into two main categories such as cold working and hot
working process. The process in the manufacturing world which is conducted above the recrystallization
temperature are called as hot working process while the process which is conducted below the recrystallization
temperature of the work piece is called cold working process.in the above categorization, the casting and
forging process is considered as the hot working process while other processes were kept under cold working
process category. The process for our review is forging and in our research paper, we are focusing on the
forging process, the types of forging process and the various parameters that are considered as a tool for the
process optimization of the forging.

Abstract
Die Casting is the manufacturing process by which a liquid material is pressurized in to the mould, which contains a hallow
cavity of the desired shape, and then molten metal is allowed to solidify. The solidified part is known as casting which is ejected
or broken out to complete the process. Objective in this project is to develop tools, dies and gating system. Identify defects such as
gas defects, shrinkage cavities, and mould material defects, pouring material defects, metallurgical defects etc. and take measures
to reduce flaws by using CAE software. To reduce the amount airs entrapped in the mould by changing the gating system, runner
and overflow location and optimize the gating system and process parameters for best quality product and improved productivity.
Defects can be formed easily at critical location during pressure die casting of aluminium alloy part. It has defective effect on the
casting. Mould filling and solidification process of a part was simulated using Z-cast software.

Making model of dual axis solar tracking with Maximum Power Point Trackingijsrd.com
Now a days solar harvesting is more popular. As the popularity become higher the material quality and solar tracking methods are more improved. There are several factors affecting the solar system. Major influence on solar cell, intensity of source radiation and storage techniques The materials used in solar cell manufacturing limit the efficiency of solar cell. This makes it particularly difficult to make considerable improvements in the performance of the cell, and hence restricts the efficiency of the overall collection process. Therefore, the most attainable maximum power point tracking method of improving the performance of solar power collection is to increase the mean intensity of radiation received from the source used. The purposed of tracking system controls elevation and orientation angles of solar panels such that the panels always maintain perpendicular to the sunlight. The measured variables of our automatic system were compared with those of a fixed angle PV system. As a result of the experiment, the voltage generated by the proposed tracking system has an overall of about 28.11% more than the fixed angle PV system. There are three major approaches for maximizing power extraction in medium and large scale systems. They are sun tracking, maximum power point (MPP) tracking or both.

Reducing Silicon Real Estate and Switching Activity Using Low Power Test Patt...ijsrd.com
Power dissipation is a challenging problem for today's system-on-chip design and test. This paper presents a novel architecture which generates the test patterns with reduced switching activities; it has the advantage of low test power and low hardware overhead. The proposed LP-TPG (test pattern generator) structure consists of modified low power linear feedback shift register (LP-LFSR), m-bit counter, gray counter, NOR-gate structure and XOR-array. The seed generated from LP-LFSR is EXCLUSIVE-OR ed with the data generated from gray code generator. The XOR result of the sequence is single input changing (SIC) sequence, in turn reduces the switching activity and so power dissipation will be very less. The proposed architecture is simulated using Modelsim and synthesized using Xilinx ISE9.2.The Xilinx chip scope tool will be used to test the logic running on FPGA.
Defending Reactive Jammers in WSN using a Trigger Identification Service.ijsrd.com
In the last decade, the greatest threat to the wireless sensor network has been Reactive Jamming Attack because it is difficult to be disclosed and defend as well as due to its mass destruction to legitimate sensor communications. As discussed above about the Reactive Jammers Nodes, a new scheme to deactivate them efficiently is by identifying all trigger nodes, where transmissions invoke the jammer nodes, which has been proposed and developed. Due to this identification mechanism, many existing reactive jamming defending schemes can be benefited. This Trigger Identification can also work as an application layer .In this paper, on one side we provide the several optimization problems to provide complete trigger identification service framework for unreliable wireless sensor networks and on the other side we also provide an improved algorithm with regard to two sophisticated jamming models, in order to enhance its robustness for various network scenarios.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Abstract— In the present paper a review for the
experimental and finite element analysis techniques is
adopted for Investment casting. Experimental Data taken for
Solidification of investment Casting is modeled and meshed
initially then validation is followed by comparing the
experimental and modeled results. This helps to optimize the
design criteria for investment casting. To overcome the
problem of current gating /riser system and by comparing
simulation results of optimized casting model with that of
original model we can reduce the shrinkage porosity.
I. INTRODUCTION
Investment casting used for non-ferrous casting applications
is increasingly used in the foundries today as an
economically viable casting process. The conventional trial
and error based investment casting design and process
development is expensive and time consuming. Such a
procedure also might lead to higher rejections and .reduce
production rate. Computer simulation procedure based
process development and design can be used for rapid
process development in a shorter time. Such a computer
simulation based procedure, often using state of the art
FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS based software systems
can improve the quality and enhance productivity of the
enterprise by way of faster development of new product
FEM based simulation software systems help the designer to
visualize the metal flow in the cavity, the temperature
variations, the solidification progress, and the evolution of
defects such as shrinkage porosities, cold shuts, hot tears
and so on. Investment casting is widely use in the area like
Aircraft engines, air frames, fuel systems, Agricultural
equipment, Aerospace, missiles, ground support systems,
Dentistry and dental tools, Stationary turbines, Computers
and data processing Prosthetic appliance, Electronics, radar,
Guns and small armaments Valves, Electrical equipment
Textile equipment, Wire processing equipment,
Transportation, diesel engines, Jewelry, Oil well drilling and
auxiliary equipment, Bicycles and motorcycles etc.
II. REVIEW
To enhance the quality of cast component the solid model is
analyzed and experimental results are compared with the
finite element analysis results to optimize the design
specification and parameter. Therefore this paper
concentrates on the review of modeled and analyzed cast
component.
S.Shamasundar et al, [1] analyzed a component of high
quality, simultaneously at the same time reduced product
cost and development time with the help of computer
simulation. The development time can be very high in the
conventional trial and error based process design. In the
current competitive environment, there is a need for the
foundry and casting units to develop the components and the
process at quick response times. Further, the costs of
development also have to be kept low to be competitive. In
these circumstances, Finite Element Analysis based
computer simulations can be of immense value to the
casting units. By computer simulation of the casting process,
the flow of the molten metal in the cavity, the heat
transformation, the solidification, grain formation, shrinkage
and stress evolution can be visualized. The details are seen
on the computer in graphical form, which helps the
designers to visualize the defects in the process design, to
analyze the causes for the defects. Further, the modified
gating designs can be tried without resorting to the actual
production of tool. Matthias Gumann et al, [2] used casting
simulation software and found the problems due to filling;
part cooling and effects of neighboring parts, and
solidification are all identified and able to be corrected
before the first pour. The filling order supplied hot metal to

off prematurely, producing shrink defects. He made the
conclusion that advanced casting simulation tools like Pro
cast allow the foundry engineer to quickly bridge the gap
between design and manufacturing. Optimization or
improved efficiency during the manufacturing cycle leads to
substantial time and cost savings. Computer analysis
provides the means for verifying design ideas and viewing
the effects of “what ifs” at minimal costs by avoiding time-
consuming and expensive rework and retooling. Loic Calba
et al,[3]simulation helps to achieve early confirmation of the
component quality and metallurgy. Simulation must be a
Concurrent Engineering tool rather than a process
verification tool. Author had studied a thermal model, solid
fraction analysis, macro porosity prediction. An advanced
investigated on residual stress, deformation, hot tearing etc.
Inter-dendritic shrinkage and gas porosities, microstructure,
grain structure evolutions etc. can also be find out with the
help of advanced metallurgical option. He concluded that
Shorter development times and cost reductions (scrap costs,
re-engineering costs) are required to the investment casting
industry. Computer modeling with industrial and advanced
solutions like Pro CAST is an efficient way to achieve these
goals. Simulation can be used at the very early stage of the
design conception (concurrent engineering with
customers).Modeling the investment casting process step by
step with first thermal only models, filling and solidification
analysis before taking into account the full process
complexity allows foundry engineers to develop a robust
process. The process development lead time using virtual
manufacturing proves always shorter than a traditional trial
and error approach. Jorg Fischer et al,[4] He studied the
advanced understanding of different thermal properties of
18K gold casting alloys, and how these properties influence
solidification and susceptibility to porosity. The
measurement of material property data reveals large
differences in thermal properties for differently colored 18K
gold alloys, especially with regard to thermal diffusivities. A
satisfying agreement between experiment and simulation of
the casting and solidification process is now obtained for
some standard 18K gold alloys, in addition to sterling silver.
The different thermal properties of alloys lead to largely
different susceptibility to shrinkage porosity and demand for
alloy-specific feed-spure design in order to obtain optimum
casting quality. Computer simulation is an increasingly
valuable tool that assists in identifying optimum feed-sprue
systems and process parameters aimed at the minimization
of investment casting defects. Marco Aloe et al[5] He
observed that beyond simply identifying shrinkage porosity
and filling problems, numerical tools have been further
developed to predict stresses, microstructures, defects and to
model specific processes that can be used effectively by the
foundry engineer early in the manufacturing process to save
significant time and cost. He concluded that the effective
use of computer analysis of the casting process has helped
expand knowledge of the overall foundry process, and the
role of such tools continues to grow both in design of the
component and optimizing the process while producing a
functional part under intended loading. The advancement in
computer hardware available to run these programs with
multiple CPU configuration, allows a fast turnaround time
by increasing the speed of solution even on large size
models. Understanding stress and deformation,
microstructure and mechanical properties, shrink and gas
porosity as well as core blowing defects works its way back
up the design chain to create more efficient parts and a more
streamlined process, helping the foundry engineer get it
right the first time around. As foundries are being
pressurized to shorten delivery times and become more cost
effective, computer modeling tools, like Pro CAST, which
offer these advanced solutions, are becoming more popular
in the foundry industry.

III. CONCLUSION
From critical literature review it is concluded that there is
wide applicability of finite element analysis in the field of
investment casting which solves the difficulty of defect in
component and improves the quality of final solidified
component. It can also reduced the defects.
