2. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR
YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT ?
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
3. Target Audience
15-24
Mainly female however directed towards both genders
indie/ feminism basis/ new music & sounds
I used a focus group to conform together ideas which make up my magazines. The
focus group is made up of a group of people in the sector of my target audience; they
helped along the construction of the designing of my magazine. The feedback I get
from them is useful in helping me create a magazine successful in my target
audience sector.
4. Attracting my target audience
My magazine is aimed at young adults verging more towards females.
My aim was to invite both female and male readers by not using gender specific colours, therefore my
magazine was very plain and only used monochrome colours apart from the actual images used. In the
magazines I researched they used vast space and only used black and white (not including images) I tried to
replicate this style. By using attraction theory through my images this attracts others by creating a personal
connection linking into the emotions of the target audience, this personal connection gives them a reason to
buy that magazine.
What is attraction theory? The attraction theory theorizes that human beings are attracted to one another based on four specific factors:
appearance, proximity, similarity, and rewards.
5. Attracting Audience - Front Cover
On my front cover the model has a vigilant expression adding to this with
the direct mode of address and strong concentrated facial expression. The
different style of lighting (shadow on half of the face) makes the image
stand out as this is unique and almost gives the effect of two different
images; attracting my target group. The use of direct mode empowers the
idea that the girl is not objectified therefore claiming more of a female
audience, she is a subject.
The pull quote used is an actual quote from the artist hence the speech
marks; this intrigues the audience as they want to find out more and read
more into the quote. The vague storyline of the quote creates the questions
which does intrigue them.
6. Attracting Audience - Contents Page
By using bold short subheadings entices the audience
to read them as it draws their attention (as they stand
out more) which then might lead to what's written
underneath.
The small chunks of writing, is easier to read and
easier to navigate to due to the two columns therefore
attracting young adults and teenagers due their
stereotype of losing interest, and concentration
quicker than older people.
7. Attracting Audience - Double page spread
The artist's name is written around the image
of the artist in capitals and larger text which
attracts the audiences to concentrate on this
as it's eye catching.
The bold coloured central image uses again
direct mode of address to create personal
relations with the audience and the artist. The
contrast of the background to the main image
gives the image importance and authority on
the page attracting the target audience.
