EVALUATION –
QUESTION 5
How did you attract/ address your audience?
Attracting my target audience
Because of my target audience consisting of both genders and all ethnicities, I have tried to reflect this in my
layout and images for my front cover, contents page and double page spread.
To appeal and represent both genders I have used colloquial terms commonly used by both genders (however
these terms are not complex therefore they appeal to all ethnicities) within my target audience’s age range.
Although females are represented in the images within my composition therefore perhaps showing a bias, this
has a pluralistic approach in that her posture, the use of chiaroscuro lighting and the anchoring text all combine to
create the impression of a strong and independent women who is the subject of her own narrative. While this may
appeal more readily to the female segment of my mainstream audience, it should also appeal to young male
readers who are less likely to be influenced by the hegemonic prejudices that older reactionary males might
display. In the images, a young foreign girl is represented combined with the pluralistic representation which in
turn appeals to other ethnicities who strive for success.
