The magazine represents young British women, its target audience. A single female model is featured to promote the theme of strong, independent women. The model on the cover appears determined and hopeful, countering stereotypes of uncertain teenagers, and serving as a positive role model. Throughout, the model maintains eye contact with the reader, creating a sense of connection and belonging for the target audience. Photos use medium shots so the model's face is clear and close, highlighting her as the subject rather than an object. The layout includes more images than text to appeal to teenage readers, with simplified text and eye-catching image placement. The representations are meant to create personal connections between the target audience and the models.
2. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
3. The representations in my magazine includes white british young women social
groups, which also relate to the target audience of my music magazine. I chose this
approach of linking the models and target audience as I wanted the reader to feel a
connection with the magazine. I’ve only used one female model as the idea of my
magazine is for the female to be dominant throughout, and by using only one person
this really enhances the idea of female dominance. However my target audience does
include males of the same age range although it is aimed more towards females due to
the idea of ‘strong independent females’ which flows with a strong vibe through the
magazine. Having the main images to be just female can attract a male audience which
gains the interest of both female and male.
4. On my front cover is a female young women, who could
arguably be representing a normal stereotypical british
teenager however her facial expression countertypes a
teenager, due to the direct concentration. Teenagers are
known to be uncertain about their future however the
facial expression of my model says otherwise. This
concentration and determined expression presents the
target audience with hope, due to the positive role model
from their own social group.
The mise-en-scene illustrates a stereotypically dressed
teenager; plain top and plain jacket. The target audience
might look at this outfit and be inspired therefore looking
up to the role model. Her facial expression and clothing is
no way proactive and sexulised therefore challening a lot
of magazine covers which portray women in this way. The
idea of not sexulising or objectifiying the model gives the
target audience a role model as her whole persona is
about driving yourself forward and making your own
destiny, not giving the target audience the role model of
the perfect image/ looks.
5. SHOT TYPES
All but one of my images use eye contact, as a mode of direct address. This gives the
audience a sense of belongingness since the model is looking directly at them making them
feel a connection between them and the magazine i.e. model. This ‘connection’ is important
due to the fact the social group of this magazine is aimed at is the same social group the
model is representing therefore this connection is stronger as the audience feel a similarity
with them self and the model giving direct eye contact.
Direct address used in my magazine makes the female a subject rather than an object which
links to the main story, the eye contact and confident facial expression emphasizes the idea
of her being the subject and not an object. Due to how she is a subject this attracts a wider
female audience.
All of my images are medium shots - therefore in all the images the face is clear and
relatively close up, this shows importance again towards the subject of the female model
and also it gives the artist purpose due to the closeness.

6. My double page spread image uses mise en scene to create a typical
representation of a teenager/young female. The red coat and
natural makeup and hair gives a positive mature aura of the
teenager instead of the rebellious stereotype therefore this is a
good role model for the targeted social group. The eye contact
again makes the audience feel like they can relate as they are part
of the same social group, this might inspire them to copy her look
(i.e role model).
7. The layout includes little text and more space for images,
therefore appeals more to teenagers as they might not be as
interested in reading a lot of writing. This represents the
social group of teenagers/young adults. It’s a simple, easy
recognisable layout therefore would be very hard to miss any
information. The text is simplifies to a format which keeps
important information however will not lose the reader's
attention. My images are placed in the centre of the page and
are shaped back to back as two triangles which separate the
two columns this creates a break between the text and adds
excitement which gives the audience something to look at in
between reading; breaking the reading time, which is
representative for teenagers as they are not as attentive.
8. IDEOLOGY
Audience reception theory is a main priority in my magazine production with making
the model/music artist in the magazine and audience from the same social group of
similar ages. By doing this means being able to create connections between the
audience and the artist in the magazine; these personal relations can intrigue fans
possibly leading to a devoted client base. The use of medium close up shots create
high intensity direct mode of address (due to the close) therefore again creates
relations between the audience and artist modelling; by doing this gets the magazine
attention leading to recognisability.
