The Importance Of Homosexuality On Gender And Sexuality
It seems the first point of any homophobic person s argument on why being gay is wrong is that
it says so in the bible . The reason homophobic people try to make this point is because the Bible
is a religious staple. Religion is so influential, it dictates the way people think and how they act.
Whether or not you believe/practice a religion, the effects it has had on societal norms are
undeniable. This essay argues that the Bibleeffects the constructions of societal norms about
gender and sexuality. I support this argument by explaining the importance of the Bible and
examining the text found in it. What is the Bible? The Bible is a collection of texts that certain
religions consider to be a record of the relationship between God and humans. The reason the
Bible is important is because of how powerful it can be. One example that proves the power of the
Bible is the fact that it is the basis of Christianityand Judaism. Meaning that it is the basis for the
most followed religion in the world, Christianity (Pew Research Center). Another example that
proves how powerful the Bible is that some people actually believe it is the direct word from
God. Anything that is thought to be a direct quote from God is going to hold a lot of power in
the world. What I have always been taught growing up in a strong Catholic family is that the Bible
is the instructions to be a good person. I was never taught to take the Bible scriptures literally and
believe every single minuet detail.

Compare And Contrast Plymouth Colony And Roanoke Colony
In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered the New World. This discovery led to the
colonization of the New World by several European nations. European nations, such as Great
Britain, started colonization for a variety of reasons. The first English colony was Roanoke.
Roanoke was founded in 1585 by Sir Walter Raleigh. The purpose of this colony was to provide
the English a toe hold into the New World. Roanoke Colony was neither profit seeking or
religiously motivated, but by the opportunity to establish a settlement in the New World. The
second English colony was Jamestown. Jamestown was founded by the Virginia Company
which was a joint stock company chartered by King James I. The Virginia Company was made
up of two different parties, each with their own goals. The goal of the monarchy was to convert
Native Americans to Christianity, whereas the goal of the stock holders who funded the colony
was to generate profits. The reason for the location of Jamestown was decided because it was
located on a river with a northwest bend in hopes of finding the ever elusive route to Asia.... Show

The Plymouth colony was originally intended to be in Virginia but the Mayflower veered off
course and landed in Cape Cod, modern day Massachusetts. The Plymouth colony was founded by
the radical Puritan sect called the Separatists (also known as the Pilgrims). This colony was
founded to escape the persecution of the British crown. Conveniently, the location of their colony
placed them outside the jurisdiction of British rule which allowed them to form their own
government based on the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact allowed them to create
their own laws and made them no longer subjects of British

Stereotyping Ethnic Characters
According to Micheal Omi, Film and television have been notorious in disseminating images of
racial minorities which establish for audiences what these groups look like, how they behave, and,
in essence, who they are (541). Micheal Omi is the author of In Living Color: Race and American
Culture , who depicts that many people are assuming the exclusion is over in United States,
however, she argues that racismis continuing to modern society through the mass media that
creates of the popular culture, and it brings many social problems on stereotyping ethnic
characters. Jessica Haredorn, author of Asian Women in Film: No Joy, No Luck , also describes
that how the Asian women are stereotyping in Hollywood, If we are good, we are childlike,
submissive, silent, and eager for sex... or else we are tragic victim types... And if we are not silent,
suffering doormats, we are demonized dragon ladies cunning, deceitful, sexual provocateurs (344).
As they discuss about, Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid
stereotyping ethnic characters because the mess media can give negative effects in the modern
society, such as increasing conflict between different the racial groups, developing of the
stereotyping ethnic characters, and immunizing from the ethnic stereotype.
United states have the most various ethnic group population, and the conflict between different
racial group is growing that the stereotyping ethnic characters in Hollywood. As Omi

Alice s Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass And The...
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and The Wizard of Oz are
fictional stories about the coming of age. Children relate to these stories and admire both Alice
and Dorothy. In what can be assumed are Alice s and Dorothy s dreams, we see various
anthropomorphic creatures and animals. There imaginary worlds lead both girls to face situations
in which they must think maturely and at the same time lose a bit of their innocence, similar to
when a young child takes their first step in becoming their own mature and independent person.
When both girls admit for the first time they were not who they were when they first entered their
dreams, they took their first step into a new world of decision making and maturity. Alice and
Dorothy mature throughout the story and leaving behind the dependence and innocence every
person once had. Both girls are coming to the age of independence. Throughout Alice s and
Dorothy s journey in wonderland it can be seen that each girl loses the air of innocence they had
at the beginning of the story. The stories, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the
Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Wizard of Ozfilm directed by Victor Fleming, all
represent a coming of age story where a young girl must go on a journey, let go of her
childishness, and mature and face her fears in order to find their way home.
Distinguishing what is a dream and what is reality can be difficult. Most times it is obvious that a
dream is only a dream.

Analyzing Precise Electronic Structure Of The Different...
The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five
different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This
aim is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the
importance of electrondensity studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the
principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given
elaborately.
1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be
measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The
possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern
was conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a
powder photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918].
Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location.
The regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability
of locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This
calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave
(or) a cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of
position in a crystal, reaches to a

20 Century Genius Award Essay example
I would like to present the 20th Century Genius Award to Dr. Maya Angelou. She is a
remarkable Renaissance woman who is hailed as one of the great voices of contemporary
literature. As a poet, educator, historian, best selling author, actress, playwright, civil rights
activist, producer and director, she continues to travel the world, spreading her legendary wisdom.
Within the rhythm of her poetry and elegance of her prose lies Angelou s unique power to help
readers of every orientation span the lines of race and Angelou captivates audiences through the
vigor and sheer beauty of her words and lyrics. (Dr. Maya Angelou, The Official Website, 2003)

In 1981 Angelou became a professor of American studies at Wake Forest University
, Winston
Salem, North Carolina. Among numerous other honors was her invitation to compose and
deliver a poem for the inauguration of President Bill Clinton in 1993. Maya Angelou is a woman
that has done so much in her life time I would not know where to begin. There is always one
poem that she published that will stick in my heart forever. The poem Still I Rise is a
phenomenal poem that I think everyone of every race should have the pleasure of being a part
of. Still I Rise You may write me down in history, with your bitter, twisted lies, you may trod me
in the very dirt But still, like dust, I ll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with
gloom? Cause I walk like I ve got oil wells pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like

me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, Weakened by my

Examples Of Mise The Scene In Apocalypse

2017 February 14 Apocalypse Now functions of Mise en scene
The scene I will be discussing will be one of my favorite scenes of the movie the beginning

underwear with both of his lamps on as he had been in his dark room all day it was kind of a
change to see some light. After that scene his room was dark once more toward the end of this
scene. In my opinion this was done because he was finally starting to talk and realize the real
terror of war and the terror of war isn t happy it s a dark and scary thing. Right before the scene
ends they show the soldier continuing his mixed martial arts and he seems to lose it as he
punches a mirror and cuts up his hand. They then show him sitting next to his blood covered
sheets as he completely breaks down and lets out his emotions and cries. I believe he had reached
his breaking point and the drinks he had earlier in the scene had caught up to him and his
emotions and the alcohol did not blend well, As seeing his reflection in the mirror seemed to anger
him. The scene then ended as it almost left you with some sort of guilt watching him breaking
down crying while being covered in his own blood from the wound on his hand from

Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin...
Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick
The central religious themes of Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick reflect the turbulent and
changing religious climate of their time. In their use of themes from both traditional Calvinism and
modern reform, the syncretic efforts of both of these texts offers a response to the uncertainty and
change of the period. However, their uses of these themes are different; while Stowe used a precise
focus on a Christian polemic against slavery, Melville intentionally de centralized his text in a way
that asks the reader to look beyond the medium of expression to the truth which lays behind it, but
cannot be contained in it.
In this paper, I will investigate the shift in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neither one of them can be precisely placed in any of the religious categories of the period;
Calvinism (both orthodox and reformed), Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and liberal
Christocentric humanism all exerted definite influences on both works, but both works similarly
resist direct placement not only because of the syncretic nature of their programs, but the fluidity of
these very traditions. Therefore, while some hesitancy is a necessary hazard of such a
investigation, it nevertheless preserves a respect for the complexity of the religious history involved.
With this much said precautionarily, it is nevertheless possible to place both of these works in the
climate of questioning, re definition, and uncertainty which occurred in the American political and
social scenes as part of this religious shift. The first important factor in this shift was the Second
Great Awakening; while William McLoughlin dates its conclusion at 1830, it had an important
influence on both of these works which were composed between 1850 and 1852. This movement
established a break from the Calvinism of Jonathan Edwards through both in popular form of
revivals and its connection to the more elite movement of Unitarianism, and thus set a precedent for
later religious reform.
The concept of American nationhood was challenged in the early eighteenth century on

Critical Reasoning Self-Assessment
Self Assessment Practicing Strategic Thinking The Critical Reasoning course being offered with
the CSU Global curriculum has been an interesting discovery; the class contains a myriad of
information to both teach a student and more importantly engage a student in the art of critical
reasoning. First the class has provided a lot of extra information to help the students become better
writers. Second the class provides information to help understand media and finding factual
information in the pursuit of avoiding fallacious information. Finally, the class teaches a student
how to become a fair minded thinker and the importance of asking clarifying questions and an

Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to
overcome their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul
and Elder (2012) describe it best:
Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without
reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s
friends, community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy,
sound logic, and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one
s group (Paul Elder, 2012, p.19).
This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when
I originally described the importance. Since learning about the traits of a disciplined mind such as:
Intellectual integrity, intellectual humility, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, and
intellectual fair mindedness (Paul Elder, 2012, p. 18), it has been a goal to practice fair
mindedness thinking on a daily basis; at work or at home, when a discussion requires more in
depth discussion, it has helped to ask objective, non biased questions that bore into the core of the
issue and root out the true

Temperament Categories
1.How would you describe your own temperament? (Do you think you were an easy child, a
difficult child, or a slow to warm up child?)
As an infant and toddler, I don t think that I fell under one temperament category. I spent my
infancy and toddler years in a village in the mountains of Mexico. In consequence, I had to deal
with poverty, lack of resources, and the absence of my mother for most of those years. For those
reasons, I believe that I probably had characteristics from of the temperament categories. My
mother had told me that as an infant if she couldn t find anyone to watch me, she would take me
with her to the fields and leave me at the end of her rows and check on me when she made her
way back. Hearing these kinds of stories makes me believe that I had to adapt and overcome many
different situations depending on my environment at that time. I can compare this to the goodness
of fit theory mentioned in the book on page 189. As an adolescent, I went through some traumas
and I would describe myself to be more of a difficult type of temperament.
2.How stable has your temperament been over the course of your development (Do you believe
that your personality today is similar to your temperament as a child)?
Because of my changing environment s as I developed, I would consider my temperaments to be
unstable. For example, I started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Jhumpa Lahiri s Unaccustomed Earth
Coming Together and Drifting Apart As individuals grow older, the relationship they have with
others can either become stronger or weaker. The story between Hema and Kaushik s connection in
Jhumpa Lahiri s Unaccustomed Earth shows an example of two childhood acquaintances, who have
known each other since their youth, and how distant they had become throughout the years. The
sad reality of losing someone that is close through death or disconnection, creates a life of loneliness
that affects the characters throughout these stories. The awkwardness between Hema and Kaushik
in their childhood days results in a detachment between each other for the duration of most of their
lives. In addition, the relationship with familyis affected too;... Show more content on

The enraged Kaushik states, I was furious that you had told me, and that you had not told me,
feeling at one burdened and betrayed, hating you all over again ( Once in a Lifetime 251). Although
their relationship did not last long, it is the undeniable truth that the two became close, despite
being forced to live with each other. In the second story, Year s End told in Kaushik s point of
view, it shows the result of losing loved ones and the inability to adapt to change. The
relationship of Kaushik and his father is affected due to the event of his mother s passing.
Kaushik was unsure which was worse the idea of remarrying for love, or actively seeking out a
stranger for companionship ( Year s End 255). This scene represents Kaushik s persistent view
that there is no family outside of the one he grew up with. As Kaushik s college graduation
approaches, it is clear that he still did not make amends with his stepfamily when he states that,
the girls were polite to me, respectful to the fact that it was my day, but at the same time it was as
if we d never met ( Year s End 293). To conclude, Kaushik is bounded by his relationship with his
mother and her attachment to his everyday life hinders any potential connections with his father
and new stepfamily. The last of the three stories, Going Ashore , shows how Kaushik and Hema
were able to meet and rekindle the relationship that they had back then. A sense of meeting again or

John Deans Research Paper
Brothers William (1820 1854) and John Deans (1817 1851) grew up well educated in the parish
of Kirkstyle, Riccarton, Scotland. Being the first and third sons of John Deans (a well developed
lawyer), the two brothers entered their fathers office with the ambition to follow in his footsteps.
Both brothers trained as in the art of law but William came across news of a new colonising
scheme in New Zealand. The scheme was established through the New Zealand Company and the
British politician Edward Wakefield. William Deans on 10 February, 1840 set sail for Port
Cooper (Lyttelton) and John Deans were among the earliest European settlers of Canterbury. The
brothers became successful farmers and John s widow Jane continued the tradition. The site of
their first farm Riccarton Bush is now a central city park and nature reserve. Being trained as
lawyers through their father s office, it was expected that they would continue the family business
as local lawyers in the town of Riccarton, Ayrshire. Despite this, after hearing Edward Wakefield s
schemes to colonise in New Zealand, the brothers interest turned from law to moving to New

Andrew Jackson And The Indian Removal Act
During Andrew Jackson s presidency, which lasted from 1829 until 1837, he believed in the
removal of the American Indians to help avoid annihilation. During these years, the Indian
Removal Act was passed, and was the first major law within the time frame. This act, passed in
1830, stated that all the Indian tribes residing east of the Mississippi River needed to pack up and
move to the west of the river, although the relocation was only voluntary. Jackson did this in the
hopes that they would give in to the pressure, considering that he sided with the land hungry
citizens eager to take their place. This was because the Americans wanted to settle in the lands
occupied by the Indians, therefore requiring them to evacuate over one hundred thousand of them.
Overall, the passing of this policy affected Jackson s political and social philosophy.
To begin, Andrew Jacksonhad been planning for the removal of the Indians even before he took
office. As stated in Document 3, It gives me pleasure to announce to Congress that the benevolent
policy of the Government, steadily pursued for nearly thirty years, in relation to the removal of the
Indians beyond the white settlements is approaching...a happy consummation. During this speech,
more specifically Jackson s Second Annual Message to Congress delivered in 1830, he went on to
inform them of the process and current progress of the Indian removal plan and all the benefits that
went alongside it. He then stated that it put an end to

Examples Of Identity Ethics In A Cyborg Manifesto
Identity Ethics in a Cyborg Manifesto A Cyborg Manifesto is a ВґblasphemousВґ critique of
feminism written by Haraway at a time when unfettered patriarchal capitalism was taking new
forms enabled by emerged technological developments during the 1980s. She warns of scary new
networks (Haraway 1990, p.203) that are emerging; new systems of domination that will replace
traditional hegemonic structures of power. She foresees aВґВґsystem of world order analogous in
its novelty and scope to that created by industrial capitalism, (Ibid) that will emerge through
technological progress. She terms these new systems ВґВґthe informatics of dominationВґВґ(Ibid)

The emphasis on identity politics, she argues, reproduces the dualisms and creates fragmented
subjectivities. These maintain the boundaries, creating factional politics as opposed to affinity and

proposed to create unity within feminist movements, transgressing the dualisms that identity
politics themselves create. Haraway writes an imaginative resource suggesting some very fruitful

postmodern identity, but also a lived reality that is the product of the new technological forms. It

Assess The Importance Of Feedback In Student Education
Reporting to both students and parents/carers is an important skill and part of being a teacher.
Reporting to students in the form of feedback is a critical element of the learning cycle.
Incorporating a range of effective strategies for providing students with feedback can advance
students understanding and development. Lacing instruction with correctional feedback will result
in the production of new instruction (Hattie Timperley, 2007, p.82). The combination of instruction
and feedback gives students the next step they need to take to develop a deeper understanding. For
feedback to provide any meaning to students it must link to the task at hand and be provided in a
timely manner. Sadler, as cited in Hattie and Timperley (2007, p.82) point out that feedback should
provide students with a stepping stone from what they understand to what is to be understood. The

Parents/carers are also invested in the development of student education. The aspects of their child s
education that parents/carers are interested in are the progress they are making, their strengths
and weaknesses, their development in comparison to other children and what they can do at
home to help (Cohen et al., as cited in Kivunja, 2015, p.385). It is the teachers responsibility to
keep parents/carers informed and attend to any concerns they may have. In addition to mid year
and end of year reports there are a number of strategies teachers can take to keep parents/carers
informed. Readman and Allen (2013, p.159) have identified a phone call or letter home, or an
entry into a student diary that is to be sighted and signed off by a parent/carer as some effective
strategies to report students progress. It is important for teachers to communicate through these
strategies to keep parents/carers aware of their child s progress and there are no surprises when

Essay On The Stranger, By Albert Camus
In Sartre s definition of existentialism, man is born into a kind of void, a mud. He has the liberty to
remain in this mud and thus lead a passive, supine, acquiescent existence (Cuddon 317). People are
born in certain conditions in life, which they have the freedom to stay in or get out of. In order to
get out of the mud, one must take responsibility for their own fate. In The Stranger by Albert
Camus, Meursault tries to escape the mud to make the magistrate confront his meaning of
existence. Although the magistrate cannot achieve truthand justice, because he cannot be honest
with himself about the uncertainty of his own faith, irony and diction reveal that when Meursault
takes responsibility for his crime, in reality he achieves justice... Show more content on

When the magistrate questions Meursault about the killing of the Arab, he explains to
Meursault about his belief in God; he told me he believed in God, that it was his conviction that
no man was so guilty that God would not forgive him, but in order for that to happen a man must
repent (Camus 68). The magistrate thought that by believing in God, man can be purified of
their guilt. He uses the belief in God to justify or purify a criminal s crime. When criminals puts
their fate on God, they will be forgiven by God, no matter what they did. In addition, while the
magistrate continues the examination, he becomes anxious after he finds out that Meursault
does not believe in God. [The magistrate] sat down indignantly. He said it was impossible; all
men believed in God , even those who turn their backs on him. That was his belief, and if he
were ever to doubt it, his life would be meaningless (Camus 69). The magistrate believed that
everybody believed in God even those who turn their backs on him. Here he shows that makes
himself think that everybody believed in God, so he can justify his unjustified acts. He feels
uncertain about his faith but does not want to confront it, because when he does, his life would be
meaningless. He tries to attain truth and justice by making criminals confess their sins and be
purified, but since he is not even

The Horror Film Genre
Horror films have been around for over 100 years, petrifying people and bringing their worst
fears to life but still they can t get enough of this sick and gory genre that is unbelievably
entertaining and captivating to the audience. Horror comes with many sub genres from your
bloody slashers like Friday the 13th to your Supernatural Horrors like The Exorcist, but in the end
they all seem to do their job by scaring you and leaving you with nightmares for weeks on end.
Usually Horror s films have the same character stereotypes such as the nerd, the jock, the slut, the
virgin, the junky, the tough hero, the unlikely hero and last but not least the masked murderer, but
yet they all play their own part in the making of these horrors movies whether it is the extremely
slow walk the killer does but almost always catches the victim, or the unwise decision to split up
and investigate where the unusual noise is coming from.
Every film uses pro filmic codes, despite of what genre it is. Location, lighting styles, props,
costumes and compositions are all used. In horrors location is a very big factor to the plot, as it
contributes to the storyline and without a certain location the viewer would get quite confused as
to where it s set, some locations that are frequently used are places like the woods, summer camps
and just normal homes. Props used can vary from many different items whether it is from the killer
s life ending weapons or something as simple as jewellery. Lightning styles

The Theory Of International Relations
When studying International Relations, there are various theories involved, three of these theories
being: realism, liberalism, and constructivism. A theory is fundamentally ideas and complex
concepts that have their own way of understanding something. These theories are used in evaluating
world politics, by coming up with a unique way of identifying and explaining the events that occur
around the world (Mingst 5). The theories help explain different perspectives on how the world
system functions; as the political scientist, Stephen Walt explains,
No single approach can capture all the complexity of contemporary world politics. Therefore we are
better off with a diverse array of competing ideas rather than a single theoretical orthodoxy.
Competition between theories helps reveal their strengths and weaknesses and spurs subsequent
refinements, while revealing flaws in conventional wisdom (Mingst 6). Realism focuses on the idea
that each state bases its policies off of the interpretation that it s national interest is defined in terms
of power (Mingst 6). Realists believe that because the international system is anarchic, which means
that there is no authoritative hierarchy, it leads to a self help system in the states, where each state
has to fend for, and support itself. Since states under the realist theory must rely on themselves for
their own security, they can often be seen as selfish, fearful and power seeking. Realists believe that
in this system, states

Hamlet Theme Of Revenge Essay
The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare follows Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, following the
death of his father. Just months after his sudden death, his uncle Claudius has taken the throne that
once belonged to his father and has married Hamlet s mother, Gertrude. It is when Hamlet meets
his father s ghost one night and discovers that his father was murdered by Claudius that he begins
to take part in the main theme of the play: revenge. In order for there to be revenge, the act of
punishing someone who has done something wrong in one s eyes, three things are needed: a
motive, the expression that he wants revenge, and the carrying out of the act. If each aspect is
successfully fulfilled, then there is a theme of revenge. The first thing... Show more content on

This establishes Hamlet s relationship with his father because he is taking his time to deal with
his father s death because it is hard for him, showing that they had a strong relationship with one

ghost he is told: Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchid, A serpent stung me. So the whole ear
of Denmark Is by a forged process of my death Rankly abused. But know, thou noble youth, The

that he was not bitten by a poisonous snake, like Hamlet was told was the cause of his death, but
was instead murdered by whomever wear his crown (1.5.32), which is Hamlet s uncle, Claudius. It
is Hamlet s relationship with his father, someone whom he loved dearly, and his reaction to his
death, causing it to be hard for him, that shows that he would have reason to want revenge on
whomever killed him for participating in the most terrible act anyone can: murder. What makes
revenge different from simply getting angry and getting back at someone is that they have to
express a want for revenge prior to carrying out the act. This would require Hamlet to display his
craving for revenge following his discovery that his father was murdered, giving him time

Florence Kelley s Speech On Child Labor Rights
On July 22, 1905, Florence Kelley, motivated by the plight of these young women and children,
affected drastically by the lack of child labor laws, delivered a speech to the National American
Women s Suffrage Association in Philadelphia. Kelley s strategies, including word choice and
tone, persuade her audience to join forces to help free the American children from toil.
Beginning her speech, Kelley applies her credibility by placing statistics regarding the
controversy of child labor laws, revealing that she is informed about this topic. Her credibility
has a great connection to her purpose, she claims that the number of working girls doubled from
census to census and girls from twelve to twenty years are working when they should not have
to. Kelley then manifests her concern over these working girls by explaining that, tonight, while
everybody else is snoozing away in bed, these several thousand little girls will be working in
textile mills, (16 17). These words make her audience feel pity concerning those young girls and
are a great reason to act against the unfair laws and regulations that violate both their human and
women s rights, especially when they aren t even getting paid fairly. By appealing to their
emotion Florence Kelley wishes to push the women to act on her proposal of joining together
and helping the poor young girls of their nation. Kelley continues to approach and influence the
women s sentiments and hopefully their actions by including her scandalized argument that in
Georgia there is no restriction whatever! A girl of six or seven years, just tall enough to reach the
bobbins, may work eleven hours by day or by night, (29 31). She decides to include the bobbins
of sewing machines in factories to illustrate how short and how young they are to be working in
dangerous factories where their rights are ignored, girls at that age should worry more about going
to school instead of sacrificing themselves to bring money for bread to their homes. One would
understand that many families are living through poverty due to the economy being at a very
depressing state and they need the most they can do to increase their financial position to survive in
their society, then again, girls should be

Kentucky Clerk Defies Justices On Marriage. New York Times 2 Sept. 2015: A1+. Print. In this
article, Blinder and Perez Pena discuss the decision of a county clerk in Kentucky to deny
marriage license to a homosexual couple. Two couples later tried to confront her along with
numerous journalists. When asked under whose authority she acted she claimed Under God s
authority (Blinder and Perez Pena A1). She claimed that same sex marriage violates her beliefs
and thus she will not comply with the ruling of the justices earlier this year. As aresult, the
couple took the clerk to court. The denial of same sex marriage license directly correlates to the
concept of the Good and justice in the Platonic framework. On the one side, the clerk claims that
the Good is what God says and thus traditional, Biblical marriage. She claims issuing these
license would violate her conscience (Blinder and Perez Pena A15). However, her opponents
would claim that she is acting unjustly and further discriminating against the already oppressed
group who until now were unable to marry. Both sides think the other is acting contrary to what
is good and as a result the same sex couple did as Socrates would want and took her to face
punishment for her wrongdoing which as is glorious as he explains, In proportion to the
magnitude of each evil is the glory of being able to ward it off and the shame of not being able to

John Bowlby studied human development as a result of human attachment. After observing

John Keats Accomplishments
Many famous writers have careers spanning over decades, though one English Romantic poet
was able to achieve fame in his short career of only five years. John Keats was a poet with a
remarkable ability to perceive the world around him; an ability that resonated throughout his
works. Although John Keats lived an unfortunately short life, he is considered one of the most
important figures of the English Romantic movement because of his use of Romantic literary
devices and themes of love and loss in poems such as La Belle Dame sans Merci and When I Have
Fears that I May Cease to Be. On the outskirts of London on Halloween in 1795, famous Romantic
poet John Keatswas born. Entering school at the age of 8, Keats was known for his fierce... Show

Regardless of finally achieving success from his poetry, Keats received the news of the good
reviews with mixed emotions ( John Keats: Love, Life, and Death ). Advised to do so by his
doctors, Keats left England and his love, Fanny Brawne, in September to spend his final months
in the warmer climate of Italy ( John Keats: Love, Life, and Death ). By this time Keats had
abandoned any ideas of continuing to write poetry, and lived his final months feeling as if he
were already dead ( John Keats: Love, Life, and Death ). Keats said that he was leading a
posthumous existence ( John Keats: Love, Life, and Death ). After fighting off the disease for
almost six more months, Keats died in Rome on February 23rd, 1621 at the young age of 25.
One can only imagine the heights to which Keats would have soared had he lived longer. Despite
his short career in poetry, Keats became one of the most popular and acclaimed English Romantic
poets ( John Keats: Biography ). Keats brief career as a poet did not prevent him from becoming a
primary leader of the English Romantic movement. His works, along with those of Lord Byron and
Percy Bysshe Shelly are most frequently connected with Romantic poetry. The Romantic movement
places harmony with nature in high regard and stresses the development of the individual (The
Academy of American Poets). Romantic poetry often focuses on one idea which eventually morphs
into a contrasting idea by the end of the poem (Melani).

Cuisine In Southern Food In The Invisible Man
Cuisine in Southern literature has become a character in itself that exposes the secrets of the

presents the truth of a South that is often forgotten when discussing the evolution of food. Southern
food stems from slavery, agriculture, and traditions of southerners over the centuries. Ralph

embedded into the culture of southern cuisine. Southern food embodies a history that has evolved
over time and explains why we have come to believe of exclusive foods as deeply southern. The
South is a world so shaped by history and memory that is difficult to separate myth from reality. The
same is true for southern food (Ferris, 3). Southern foods are rooted in culture and traditions of the
past. Real southern food is distinctive, innovative cuisine that is grounded in the world of local
agrarian traditions soil, waters, region, season, flora and fauna and the influence of global cultures

introduce new services under social security, health, education, housing, employment and the

government to take responsibility to try to reduce poverty. In 1906 free school meals were
introduced, in 1909 old age pensions were given to those who could no longer work. The most
important thing the Liberals introduced was National Insurance in 1911. These changes mainly

feel some guilt because he finally realizes how much he had hurt Fiona during his time of
infidelity. In the short story (Munro, 2013) it tells you about Grants infidelity, however in the film
(Egoyan, et al., 2006) the director just eludes to the fact that there was infidelity in the marriage.
Fiona, however, does not seem to go through much denial saying, Don t worry darling, I expect I m
just losing my mind (Egoyan, et al., 2006)
Climax
The climax in the both the story(Munro, 2013) and the film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) is when Grant

Eclectic Approach
USING ECLECTIC APPOACH FOR FUTURE TEACHING
Nowadays, English has become the Global language. It is the language of science, technology,
economic, etc. As a result, learning English has become an essential need for everyone. While
learners try their best to reach their goal of successful communicator in foreign language, teachers
find ways to make language teaching effective. In this fashion, considering and choosing the right
way in teaching is prior thing for all of teachers and I am not an exception. We have witnessed the
dominance of Communicative Approach with Communicative Language Teachingin the world in
general and in Vietnam in particular recent years. For me, I will use the Eclectic Approach to teach
English in the future due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is to catch up with globalization of English as well. According to Le Van Canh,
Vietnam introduced CA (approach employed by Communicative Language Teaching) into its school
system rather late than its neighbors such as China, Hong Kong, or Thailand (Canh, 2009). CLT
replaced GMT when The Vietnamese Ministry of Educationand Training (MOET) organized the
design of the new curriculum and the writing of new textbooks for all school subjects in 2002.
However, the application of CA faces many challenges. The challenges are from the teachers,
learners, the class constrains, the syllabus. Vietnamese students and teachers are still familiar with
GTM that has influence on them for long time, so the change into the new one is not easy at all. In
addition, the class size with over forty students per class is one thing that make us concern. Also,
the mismatch between the textbook and testing system is another one concern as well. While
textbook focuses on four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, testing still focuses on
testing linguistic competences only on that grammar and reading only as Wang 2008 once stated
while curriculum developers and textbook writers emphasize the adoption of a communicative
approach to teaching, classroom pedagogy has remained textbook based, test oriented and teacher
fronted ( cited in Canh Barrnard, 2009: 28). So eclectic approach which combines the traditional
one and modern one is the solution in this

Homeless Youths in Canada Essay examples
Even with the daily struggle faced by youth in obtaining shelter and homelessness becoming a
reality for a growing number of Canadians, Canada, with its high quality of life is one country that
has always had a global long standing reputation (Health Canada, 2006). The aim of this paper is to
give the reader a better understanding and knowledge with regards to homeless youth. It will be
focusing on the reasons why they leave home, their lives on the street and steps they are trying to
take to be able to leave the streets. An important finding from this research suggests, the street
youth population is diverse, complex, and heterogeneous (Karabanow, 2008). According to
Karabanow, made up of a number of subcultures including hardcore... Show more content on

The first reason youth leave home is according to Klodawsky, Aubry and Farrell, pervasiveness of
family conflict and violence . Most street youth, including aboriginals, have been victims of
disruption in their family homes, violence and abuse. A considerable amount of them reported
having to live in group homes, foster care, jail or in a detention centre than their distinct family
homes. In as much as these homeless youth reported to have gained employment in retail sales and
fast food restaurants, they were still faced with the stereotypes in the workplace. Unlike the males
who were more likely to have had the opportunity to work as a manual laborer, or in landscaping
/moving furniture, the females were more likely to report of having to care for their children and
less likely to report any work experiences. Through the interviews conducted by Kristin M.
Ferguson, it was found out that the youth had similar characteristics about their families and their
home environments that made them leave home and end up on the streets. These family
characteristics include: home instability, abandonment and caregiver substance use Ferguson, 2008).
In the case of home instability, as a result of their parents suffering and struggling with substance
use, mental illness and homelessness as well, the youth lacked provisions from their parents. In their
home environment, the youth went through insecurity, instability and even uncertainty (Ferguson,

  • 2. The Importance Of Homosexuality On Gender And Sexuality It seems the first point of any homophobic person s argument on why being gay is wrong is that it says so in the bible . The reason homophobic people try to make this point is because the Bible is a religious staple. Religion is so influential, it dictates the way people think and how they act. Whether or not you believe/practice a religion, the effects it has had on societal norms are undeniable. This essay argues that the Bibleeffects the constructions of societal norms about gender and sexuality. I support this argument by explaining the importance of the Bible and examining the text found in it. What is the Bible? The Bible is a collection of texts that certain religions consider to be a record of the relationship between God and humans. The reason the Bible is important is because of how powerful it can be. One example that proves the power of the Bible is the fact that it is the basis of Christianityand Judaism. Meaning that it is the basis for the most followed religion in the world, Christianity (Pew Research Center). Another example that proves how powerful the Bible is that some people actually believe it is the direct word from God. Anything that is thought to be a direct quote from God is going to hold a lot of power in the world. What I have always been taught growing up in a strong Catholic family is that the Bible is the instructions to be a good person. I was never taught to take the Bible scriptures literally and believe every single minuet detail. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This discovery led to the colonization of the New World by several European nations. European nations, such as Great Britain, started colonization for a variety of reasons. The first English colony was Roanoke. Roanoke was founded in 1585 by Sir Walter Raleigh. The purpose of this colony was to provide the English a toe hold into the New World. Roanoke Colony was neither profit seeking or religiously motivated, but by the opportunity to establish a settlement in the New World. The second English colony was Jamestown. Jamestown was founded by the Virginia Company which was a joint stock company chartered by King James I. The Virginia Company was made up of two different parties, each with their own goals. The goal of the monarchy was to convert Native Americans to Christianity, whereas the goal of the stock holders who funded the colony was to generate profits. Children relate to these stories and admire both Alice and Dorothy. In what can be assumed are Alice s and Dorothy s dreams, we see various anthropomorphic creatures and animals. There imaginary worlds lead both girls to face situations in which they must think maturely and at the same time lose a bit of their innocence, similar to when a young child takes their first step in becoming their own mature and independent person. When both girls admit for the first time they were not who they were when they first entered their dreams, they took their first step into a new world of decision making and maturity. Alice and Dorothy mature throughout the story and leaving behind the dependence and innocence every person once had. Both girls are coming to the age of independence. Throughout Alice s and Dorothy s journey in wonderland it can be seen that each girl loses the air of innocence they had at the beginning of the story. The stories, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Wizard of Ozfilm directed by Victor Fleming, all represent a coming of age story where a young girl must go on a journey, let go of her childishness, and mature and face her fears in order to find their way home. • 6. Analyzing Precise Electronic Structure Of The Different... The core aim of the present work is to completely analyze precise electronic structure of the five different doped BaTiO3 systems and the bonding interactions between the constituent atoms. This aim is achieved successfully by adopting maximum entropy method (MEM). In this section, the importance of electrondensity studies in structure analysis, the formalism of MEM method, the principle, MEM methodology followed in this work to elucidate the electron density are given elaborately. 1.9.2.1 Electron density The electron density is a quantum mechanical observable, that can be measured through scattering experiments, in particular X ray diffraction from the crystals. The possibility of measuring charge density in a crystalline system from its X ray diffraction pattern was conceived several years ago when Debye and Scherrer explained the existence of halos in a powder photograph where the images of the electronic orbit around the atoms [Debye et.al., 1918]. Electron density is the measure of probability of an electron being present at a specific location. The regions of electron density are usually found around the atoms and its bonds. The probability of locating an electron at one point (or) another can be calculated quantum mechanically. This calculation gives a quantity called electron density. Electron can be viewed as a stationary wave (or) a cloud of negative charges. The electron density is considered as a periodic function of position in a crystal, reaches to a ... Eighteenth Century Religious Change in Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick The central religious themes of Uncle Tom s Cabin and Moby Dick reflect the turbulent and changing religious climate of their time. In their use of themes from both traditional Calvinism and modern reform, the syncretic efforts of both of these texts offers a response to the uncertainty and change of the period. However, their uses of these themes are different; while Stowe used a precise focus on a Christian polemic against slavery, Melville intentionally de centralized his text in a way that asks the reader to look beyond the medium of expression to the truth which lays behind it, but cannot be contained in it. Neither one of them can be precisely placed in any of the religious categories of the period; Calvinism (both orthodox and reformed), Unitarianism, Transcendentalism, and liberal Christocentric humanism all exerted definite influences on both works, but both works similarly resist direct placement not only because of the syncretic nature of their programs, but the fluidity of these very traditions. Therefore, while some hesitancy is a necessary hazard of such a investigation, it nevertheless preserves a respect for the complexity of the religious history involved. With this much said precautionarily, it is nevertheless possible to place both of these works in the climate of questioning, re definition, and uncertainty which occurred in the American political and social scenes as part of this religious shift. The first important factor in this shift was the Second Great Awakening; while William McLoughlin dates its conclusion at 1830, it had an important influence on both of these works which were composed between 1850 and 1852. This movement established a break from the Calvinism of Jonathan Edwards through both in popular form of revivals and its connection to the more elite movement of Unitarianism, and thus set a precedent for later religious reform. Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to overcome their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul and Elder (2012) describe it best: Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s friends, community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy, sound logic, and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one s group (Paul Elder, 2012, p.19). This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when I originally described the importance. This act, passed in 1830, stated that all the Indian tribes residing east of the Mississippi River needed to pack up and move to the west of the river, although the relocation was only voluntary. In addition, while the magistrate continues the examination, he becomes anxious after he finds out that Meursault does not believe in God. [The magistrate] sat down indignantly. He said it was impossible; all men believed in God , even those who turn their backs on him. That was his belief, and if he were ever to doubt it, his life would be meaningless (Camus 69). The magistrate believed that everybody believed in God even those who turn their backs on him. Here he shows that makes himself think that everybody believed in God, so he can justify his unjustified acts. He feels uncertain about his faith but does not want to confront it, because when he does, his life would be meaningless. He tries to attain truth and justice by making criminals confess their sins and be purified, but since he is not even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Horror Film Genre Horror films have been around for over 100 years, petrifying people and bringing their worst fears to life but still they can t get enough of this sick and gory genre that is unbelievably entertaining and captivating to the audience. Horror comes with many sub genres from your bloody slashers like Friday the 13th to your Supernatural Horrors like The Exorcist, but in the end they all seem to do their job by scaring you and leaving you with nightmares for weeks on end. Usually Horror s films have the same character stereotypes such as the nerd, the jock, the slut, the virgin, the junky, the tough hero, the unlikely hero and last but not least the masked murderer, but yet they all play their own part in the making of these horrors movies whether it is the extremely slow walk the killer does but almost always catches the victim, or the unwise decision to split up and investigate where the unusual noise is coming from. Every film uses pro filmic codes, despite of what genre it is. Location, lighting styles, props, costumes and compositions are all used. In horrors location is a very big factor to the plot, as it contributes to the storyline and without a certain location the viewer would get quite confused as to where it s set, some locations that are frequently used are places like the woods, summer camps and just normal homes. Props used can vary from many different items whether it is from the killer s life ending weapons or something as simple as jewellery. Lightning styles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Theory Of International Relations When studying International Relations, there are various theories involved, three of these theories being: realism, liberalism, and constructivism. A theory is fundamentally ideas and complex concepts that have their own way of understanding something. These theories are used in evaluating world politics, by coming up with a unique way of identifying and explaining the events that occur around the world (Mingst 5). The theories help explain different perspectives on how the world system functions; as the political scientist, Stephen Walt explains, No single approach can capture all the complexity of contemporary world politics. Therefore we are better off with a diverse array of competing ideas rather than a single theoretical orthodoxy. Competition between theories helps reveal their strengths and weaknesses and spurs subsequent refinements, while revealing flaws in conventional wisdom (Mingst 6). Realism focuses on the idea that each state bases its policies off of the interpretation that it s national interest is defined in terms of power (Mingst 6). Realists believe that because the international system is anarchic, which means that there is no authoritative hierarchy, it leads to a self help system in the states, where each state has to fend for, and support itself. Since states under the realist theory must rely on themselves for their own security, they can often be seen as selfish, fearful and power seeking. Realists believe that in this system, states ... Florence Kelley s Speech On Child Labor Rights On July 22, 1905, Florence Kelley, motivated by the plight of these young women and children, affected drastically by the lack of child labor laws, delivered a speech to the National American Women s Suffrage Association in Philadelphia. Kelley s strategies, including word choice and tone, persuade her audience to join forces to help free the American children from toil. Beginning her speech, Kelley applies her credibility by placing statistics regarding the controversy of child labor laws, revealing that she is informed about this topic. Her credibility has a great connection to her purpose, she claims that the number of working girls doubled from census to census and girls from twelve to twenty years are working when they should not have to. Kelley then manifests her concern over these working girls by explaining that, tonight, while everybody else is snoozing away in bed, these several thousand little girls will be working in textile mills, (16 17). These words make her audience feel pity concerning those young girls and are a great reason to act against the unfair laws and regulations that violate both their human and women s rights, especially when they aren t even getting paid fairly. By appealing to their emotion Florence Kelley wishes to push the women to act on her proposal of joining together and helping the poor young girls of their nation. Kelley continues to approach and influence the women s sentiments and hopefully their actions by including her scandalized argument that in Georgia there is no restriction whatever! A girl of six or seven years, just tall enough to reach the bobbins, may work eleven hours by day or by night, (29 31). Both sides think the other is acting contrary to what is good and as a result the same sex couple did as Socrates would want and took her to face punishment for her wrongdoing which as is glorious as he explains, In proportion to the magnitude of each evil is the glory of being able to ward it off and the shame of not being able to do so (Plato ...
