Sternberg s Triarchic Theory Of Human Intelligence
Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of Human Intelligence
History of the Intelligence Theory
The history of Sternberg s Triarchic Theory of Human Intelligence can be traced back to 1977,
1985, and 1995. Robert Sternberg s principal proponent of this intelligence theory. He developed the
theory when he was teaching at the Yale University. His aim was to establish how education could
enhance creative intelligence (experiential), analytical intelligence (componential), and the practical
intelligence (contextual). The analytical component helps students to break down the problem,
process the information, and solve it. Analytical skills are essential since they help the student to
compare different social issues and make an informed conclusion. ... Show more content on

In 2003, he served as the President of the American Psychological Association. Sternberg has made
a significant contribution to psychology, having written more than 1,600 articles and several books.
Research supporting the validity of the theory.
There have been several studies that seek to test the validity and reliability of the Sternberg s
Triarchic Theory. In one study Sternberg (2000), examined how the method of delivery of content
in school affected academic performance. The conducted study was in Raleigh, North Carolina and
another one in Baltimore, Maryland, and Fresno, California. The student sample in Raleigh, North
Carolina was mostly from low income families, totaling 225. The other sample was of students from
middle to upper middle class families, totaling 142. The test involved teaching by using three
primary methods. In the first one, students had no interventions with the teaching, with the main
purpose was to memorize. In the second group was taught how to analyze the information. In the
final group had applied the analytical, creativity, and practical strategies for the teaching. The
students tested, and the last group (infused creativity, analytical, and practical interventions)
outperformed the rest. Similar studies have same yield results, which demonstrates the validity of

Why I Want To Understand The Brain By Anne Sexton
Sexton s poem allowed me to understand what it must feel like to live with a mental illness such
as depression. I was quite frightened to find that Sexton constantly wanted to kill herself. Her
confessional style of poetry allowed me to understand that this type of mental illness is a reality
for people. The way in which Anne Sexton describes her desire for death, allowed me to
understand the power depression held on her mind and body. The need to end her life must have
meant that dying outweighed any need to live. Anne Sexton had two children and I am shocked
she would abandon these two children for an escape from the world. I realised Sexton s drive to
kill herself was greater than the love for her own family. Even though it was selfish of

Symbiosis And Eukaryotes
Symbioses have played an important role in the origins and evolution of cells and organisms with
novel properties. One of the most significant outcomes of symbiosis, is the formation of eukaryotes
through either primary or secondary endosymbiosis which allowed for the development of many
unique organelles present today in eukaryotes, notably chloroplasts and mitochondria. Primary
endosymbiosis is the engulfment of a prokaryote by a eukaryoteforming a plastid, compared to
secondary endosymbiosis: a eukaryote engulfs another eukaryote to form a plastid (Archibald et al,
2002). Through endosymbiosis, the endosymbionts are able to bring in unique metabolic and
signalling capabilities beneficial to the host (Lake, 2009). However, mutually dependent... Show

Both chloroplasts and mitochondria contain circular DNA knowns as chloroplast DNA and
mitochondrial DNA respectively, signifying that both organelles have prokaryotic origins. The
presence of mitochondria in eukaryotes allows for ATP synthesis through the electron transport
chain and oxidative phosphorylation (Chinney et al, 2003), thus enabling eukaryotes to satisfy
their high metabolic requirements, particularly in animals. The production of large amounts of
ATP energy allows for the sustenance of life in a wide variety of environmental conditions as
they are able to produce the energy required. The unique double membrane of the mitochondria
suggest that it was formed as a result of primary symbiosis, and are homologous to plastids.
Similarly chloroplasts enable eukaryotes to take advantage of sunlight as a natural resource, which
allows the process of photosynthesis, where the reaction of carbon dioxide and water is converted
to glucose and oxygen gas (Cogdell, 2013), using light energy produced by the sun with the aid of
chlorophyll. This conversion of light energy into chemical energy forms the primary source of all
energy accessible by the animal consumers on land, through the producers the plants. At the cellular
level, protists are the most simple examples of endosymbiosis. In the amoeba Paulinella
chromatophora it contains two chromatophores, derived from once free living cyanobacteria

Robert Niccol s Time Is A Film Directed By Andrew Niccol...
In Time Andrew Niccol 1.11 internal.
In Time is a film directed by Andrew Niccol. The film uses a range of film techniques to show the
inequality across time zones. We see Will striving to achieve equality among society. We see how
Will experiences near death and the struggles of trying to achieve his goal. During the scene we see
Will at the Weis party, the minute men come to question him about the wealththat Will has just
received. During the scene, we see inequality across the zones of Dayton and New Greenwich.
The director uses a range of camera techniques to show Will getting interrogated to create
suspense and a clear power struggle. We see a long shot of Will Salas when he is getting
questioned by the timekeeper Raymond Leon. Will is now suddenly trapped and is forced to be
seated into a substantial plush chair. The setting is green painted room with gold incorporated
into the decor. The long shot then transitions into a high angle shot. Through the shot, we can see
guards positioned on either side of Will. This emphasizes that Will has been ambushed and is
overpowered and that they are watching every move that Will makes. We also learn within the
scene that Will is captured and cannot escape the timekeeper as well as the guards. This contrasts
back to Dayton where the bars on Will s apartment windows symbolised that he was trapped and
was living in a controlled area. We learn that Will has ambition to make to make the system of time
vanish and to become

Notes on Poetry
Poetry
A Soldier
By Robert Frost
He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled,
That lies unlifted now, come dew, come rust,
But still lies pointed as it plowed the dust.
If we who sight along it round the world,
See nothing worthy to have been its mark,
It is because like men we look too near,
Forgetting that as fitted to the sphere,
Our missiles always make too short an arc.
They fall, they rip the grass, they intersect
The curve of earth, and striking, break their own;
They make us cringe for metal point on stone.
But this we know, the obstacle that checked
And tripped the body, shot the spirit on
Further than target ever showed or shone
How does poetry help you see yourself/your world differently?

Young as she is, the stuff
Of her life is a great cargo, and some of it heavy:
I wish her a lucky passage.
But now it is she who pauses,
As if to reject my thought and its easy figure.
A stillness greatens, in which
The whole house seems to be thinking,
And then she is at it again with a bunched clamor
Of strokes, and again is silent.
I remember the dazed starling
Which was trapped in that very room, two years ago;
How we stole in, lifted a sash
And retreated, not to affright it;
And how for a helpless hour, through the crack of the door,
We watched the sleek, wild, dark
And iridescent creature
Batter against the brilliance, drop like a glove
To the hard floor, or the desk top,
And wait then, humped and bloody,
For the wits to try it again; and how our spirits
Rose when, suddenly sure,
It lifted off from a chair back,
Beating a smooth course for the right window
And clearing the sill of the world.
It is always a matter, my darling,
Of life or death, as I had forgotten. I wish
What I wished you before, but harder.
What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth;
What are deep? The ocean and truth.
How can sorrow be heavy as said in the poem? Today and Tomorrow be brief? Youth be frail? And
truth be deep?

Plastic Surgery Should Not Be an Option
Children and teenagers can be very cruel at their young age and start bullying each other. This
bullying can leave drastic impacts on a vulnerable child, which would not know how to handle the
situation. The impact of bullying has raised a toll on suicide rates for youngsters. Bullying is
something real and should not be avoided; it comes in many different forms. All forms of bullying
get to one, one way or another. Children and young adults getting bullied for their physical
appearances can really damage and lower their self esteem and cause destruction within themselves

The Little Baby Face Foundation located in New York is a foundation that helps low income

Introduction
First we discuss what Buddhism is and then discuss how it is perform in Tibet.
Buddhism
Shakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism. He was born around 490 B.C.E. to a royal family who
lived in a palace in the foothills of the Himalayas and lived a luxurious life. From the moment he

covers a vast part of Asia and Far East: India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mongolia, Tibet, China, Korea
and Japan. Buddhism gets its name from the title Buddha (Enlightened One) through which the first

I Needed For The State And The Restoration Of The Monarchy

as a ruler were, Johann Christoph von Bartenstein, Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Haugwitz,
Emanuel Silva Tarouca, and Ignaz von Koch. She wrote, Bartenstein and Haugwitz gave me what I

Military Maria Theresa, as inexperienced as she was, was able to see the lack of intelligence in
the organization of her military forces, less than ten years into her rule. She wrote, Each unit
had a different order of marching, a different drill, etc. One practiced rapid fire, another slow.
The same words of command were differently interpreted in each unit, and it is really no wonder
that ten years before my accession the Emperor as defeated every time, and the subsequent state
of the army beggars description. She was able to see, early on, that not only did she need a better
trained military force, but she also needed a larger force. Through calibration with her advisors,
mostly Haugwitz, she was able to obtain the men and money to have an appropriate military force.
Public Opinion
Maria Theresa was generally well liked as she accomplished much for her people. In 1749, in a
letter addressed to Fräulein Thomasius, Luise Gottsched spoke of her most amazing visit with
Maria Theresa. She starts by saying, Yes, I have seen her, the greatest among women. She who, in
herself, is higher than her throne. She goes on to explain the event of meeting the Empress and
mentions the compliments Maria Theresa gave to both Luise and her husband. Throughout the

What Is Good Education Essay
What is a Good Education?
Education literally means the things a person learns by being taught.
So, the definition of a good education would be the things a person learns by being taught well.
But what exactly does that mean? No one has ever told you that, right. To me a good education is
basically achieved when a person has a general to specific knowledge of the things that have
happened in the world, things that could happen in the future of the world, how to communicate
with others, and how to live safely in the world today.
In order to live in this day and age, a person needs to know what has happened to people or places
before their time. This is basically learned in a history class. If the person is well educated in history,

If people have a general understanding of these and other important literary works, they will not
feel uncomfortable if they end up in a discussion about English.
They should also know a little about the famous authors of the past such as
William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and Charles
Dickens. To know the names of some famous authors and what they are famous for should be
enough for a person to be able to function in society.
However, knowing a little bit of detail about authors in history would be of great help.
People should also know a little about what could happen in the future. They should know a little
about the ways the government could change, space exploration breakthroughs, who is forming a
peace treaty, as well as if a war could break out. This information is very general and
changing constantly, however, it is very important to know. If a person did not know for instance
that one country has problems with another, a war could break out and they would have no idea
why. This could put a person in an awkward position in society. People do not realize that this kind
of information is important until they are out in the real world. It does not seem so important when
you are in high school, but when you graduate and go out to pursue a career, it becomes important.
Not necessarily because you have to know this to do your job efficiently, but because you need to
know what to say if your boss

Summary Of Gothic Children s Literature And The...
When encountering the title of this scholarly journal, Psychoanalysis, Gothic Children s Literature,
and the Canonization of Coraline , I was excited to delve into the gothic terrain of the subconscious.
However, ChloГ© Germaine Buckley s paper does not give us a straightforward analytical reading,
but instead challenges the dominant modes of interpretationwhen dealing with children s literature.
Buckley engages with Neil Gaiman s Coraline, challenging some of the critical responses to the
book, as well as drawing in some foundational literary criticism authors and thinkers such as
Sigmund Freud, Roland Barthes and Lewis Carroll. Buckley s intention with this paper is to
oppose restrictive interpretations of Coraline, as she posits the book to be far more complex than
most examples of children s literature. Freud s Uncanny , gothicism, and psychoanalysishave been
posited as the best tools for approaching children s literature by the critics Buckley intends to
circumvent. She believes these methods are a tangled mess that confuse origin with originality, that
mistake the interpretation of Coraline s influences as interpretations of the book itself. Buckley
notices that Gaiman has drawn satirically from Freud, offering a crash course for children on
psychoanalysis and the uncanny. With this in mind, Buckley wants to make room for more
postmodern interpretations that engage intertextuality and satirical elements, in order to fully
appreciate the scope of Gaiman s book.

But they were wrong as both Colonialism and Imperialism means political and economic

Impact of the Revolt of 1857:
A major impact on our national movement occured after the Revolt of 1857.
Against the British rule all classes of people combined and brought together for the first time. The

States and it gave rise to nationalism. Indian people became more aware of their heroes, who
sacrificed their lives to save the country. So that others might live in free India in times to come.
The revolt scarred the relationship between Hindus and Muslims with the Divide and Rule Policy
which was adopted by the British. They thought if they wanted to continue their rule in India, it was

Chemistry Practical Investigation-Volumetric Analysis
Chemistry Practical Investigation Volumetric Analysis
Discussion:
Based on the data obtained, the precision of obtaining the data is high. This is because the data
shows closeness between one another. It shows the reproducibility of a set of measured quantity.
The data obtained showed three concordant titres where the titre volumes differ by less than 0.1mL
from the highest to the lowest. The variability of a measurement cannot be determined from a single
measurement, therefore multiple measurements (replicates) are made to check reproducibility.
Three concordant titres are needed to calculate the average titre. Concordant titre is when you are
calculating the concentration of a solution by titration the expression concordant titres refers to are
a series of successive titration with similar results. In practice this may be three successive titres
with readings within a 0.10mL range which you then find the average titre value for the
concentration calculation. Concordant titre is done to minimize the effect of random error and
improve the precision result as precision is correspondent to the random errors of the measurement
process.
Random errors are caused by factors that randomly affect measurement. Random errors are errors in
measurement that lead to measured values being inconsistent. The word random indicates that they
are unpredictable and have unexpected value even when the same instrument is used. If random
error is present in this experiment it would be because

younger I thought it was so cool to have two middle names, and my dad s story behind the first

My dad s choice of Jewel, because at the time I was as precious as a jewel. My mother rounded off
my middle name with a simple Ann, which stemmed from her middle name. Combined together
they make a somewhat unique Jewel Ann. I think I still like my middle name, its different, I think
that s why I like it. The cherry on top of the name sundae is my last name

The Common Life Scott Russell Sanders Analysis
Humans in society are like musicians in an orchestra. Solo, their parts sound odd and out of
place, lacking the harmonies mindfully composed for the rest of the orchestra. Humans are
interdependent, social creatures by nature. We rely on each other to survive. We rely on each
other to do jobs that might require a certain skill set or jobs that we might not have time to do
ourselves. We even rely on each other to bring a sense of familiarity and security to our
communities just by knowing one another. If we all remained anonymous, then we could not rely
on each other to satisfy these vital societal needs. Scott Russell Sanders, in his essay The
Common Life , states that the more people in a community who prefer to live isolated and
reclusive lives, the more susceptible the community is to a division that impedes its ability to live
together, interact synergistically, and thrive. He correctly believes that this division can lead to a
total breakdown in society. Sanders hypothetical breakdown of society is hinged upon a scenario
where few contribute to the society from which they isolate themselves. If there is... Show more

Everyone has to be socially interactive to stop crime and an imminent breakdown of society?
Conversely, some might believe that many conflicts derive from close connectivity and that most
crime is not random, but rather is committed against a known friend, relative, or foe. Therefore,
isolation would prevent these negative relationships from forming and thus reduce crime. While
these crimes do exist, encouraging people to be antisocial and not form these relationships is
impractical and improbable. Even if one stays as isolated as possible, they will still have to
interact somehow without the outside world. If people want to do drugs, they will find a way to
acquire them, even if that means they have to socialize. Isolation is a result of people not wanting
to socialize. If people want drugs, they will socialize to acquire

Damages On The Form Of Penalties
DAMAGES IN THE FORM OF PENALTIES
Section 73 and 74 of the Indian Contracts Act, 1872 (referred as ICA, 1872 hereinafter) provide
the basic structure for enforcement, non performance and breach of contract. This paper deals with
provisions regarding penalties on breach of the contract by one of the parties. Since sections 73
and 74 of the ICA, 1872 talk about the damages to be awarded in the case of breach and such
damages shall be predefined in the contract while drafting the same and such pre estimation shall be
just and of reasonable nature. Hence making the damages Liquidated.
LIQUIDATED DAMAGES
When parties by contract assess the damages to be paid irrespective of the actual damage are
categorized as liquidated damages. Liquidated damages can be dictated to flow in two ways
1.Either by paying the sum of money due stipulated to the other party. Or
2.By forfeiting the amount already paid by the party who breaches the contract
Liquidated damages are a genuine pre estimate of damages .
DAMAGES
According to the section 73 of the ICA, 1872 the word damages has been used
Section 73 of the ICA, 1872 says that
Compensation for loss or damage caused by breach of contract. When a contract has been broken,

Milton Friedman Summary
American Economists, Milton Friedman stated in his famous 1970 New York Times Magazine
article, the manager is the agent of the individuals who own the corporation , he continues with
writing about how the manager s primary responsibility is to conduct the business in accordance
with [the owner s] desires . While at this time, this assumption was greatly appreciated considered,
many economists have to come to the realization that there are a lot of flaws associated with this
view. It has since then been developed and critiqued. In this essay, it is my intention to discuss the
implications and problems that came along with Friedman s opinion. Touching upon theories such
as the principal agenttheory to solidify the limitations of this view in practice. I will also discuss
the relationship between a shareholder centered perspective and value transfer and value creation.
First, we must understand what Friedman s view is on corporate social responsibility. What are the
social responsibilities that a corporationmust follow? Friedman discussed in his article that it is
the corporation s responsibility to make as much money as possible for the stockholder. This
statement made by him made me wonder about safety for the workers, excessive pollution, and
how situations are handled in less developed countries and child labor laws. I think that Friedman
was not aware how this statement would be interpreted, especially in an inappropriate way. He was
probably looking at the short

Different Stages Of Cell Division
1) Cell division is typically explained through the progression of 4 distinct phases, G1, S, G2,
and M, and can be tracked through CDK complex concentration ranges. CDKs are cyclin
dependent kinases, which regulate the cell cycle of eukaryotic cells; as suggested by the name,
protein kinases are an enzyme that is dependent on cyclin for the regulation of cell division
through the addition of phosphate groups. The different stages of the cell cycle correlate with
different levels of cyclin and act as a threshold that once reached, triggers a phase transition. For
example, for a cell to move out of G2 phase into M phase, Cyclin B interacts with the CDK1
complex, and causes phosphorylation to stimulate the phase shift; however, if the stage is not
complete, the whole process slows down to accommodate the discrepancy in CDK complexes
(Nelson Education, figure 9.17, page 191). This can be caused by several things, such as the
presence of damaged or deformed DNA, or externally through contact inhibition, where a delay in
phase shift is caused by partial or incomplete contact of all cells. If there is only partial cell
contact, contact inhibition will typically prevent progression past the G1 phase until there is
complete cell contact, which can be reflected in variable levels of the CDK complex(Nelson
Education, page 191). Overall, CDK regulates cell division through the combination of CDK and
cyclin, the activation of protein via a phosphate group that triggers a phase change,

Taking a Look at Prejudice and Ignorance
Prejudice and ignorance are two of the most prominent ills of our society today. The way gay
soldiers are treated today is no exception. Many have been forced to resign due to their sexual
orientation, which has little or nothing to do with their ability as soldiers. Most members of our
armed forces have no experience in relating to gaypeople, resulting in a fear that has caused pain
to many people, both homosexual and heterosexual. In 2010, Obama put this country into place
when he signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 . Even though this was signed, it
is still a very heated debate within the government and this society. People should not have to
worry about being gay when they sign up to protect their country. They also should not be
judged on the basis of their sexuality. When Obama signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal
Act of 2010 , it got rid of the original Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act that was signed by President
Clinton in 1993. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act , was not working out as planned. Instead of
helping the gay community, it made things a lot worse. In an article written by Lincoln Caplan,
he states, Investigators routinely ask soldiers to name other marines rumored to be gay and
threaten them if they don t confess to homosexual acts. (Caplan n. pag). Sgt. Robert S. Nadel, a
marine in the military, was once court martialled for allegedly doing homosexual acts. For Nadel
and many other soldiers like him, the real policy was more like

The Element Oxygen
The Element Oxygen has a chemical symbol O and atomic number 8. Oxygen was produced by
numerous chemists prior to discovery in 1774, but each chemist failed to record it as an element.
The main people are British clergyman Joseph Priestley, Swedish pharmacist Carl Wilhelm Scheele
and French chemist Antoine Laurent Lavoisier all independently discovered oxygen. But Priestley
usually gets the credit for the discovery. The name oxygen was first used by Lavoisier in 1777.
Oxygen plays an essential role in the lives of humans and other living organism. As well as being
important for health and medical treatments it also helps us burn fuels, teat waters and even protect
us from dangerous UV light thank to the ozone layer. Oxygen therapy is used as a common medical
treatment. You may have seen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is almost the most abundant element in the human body. Oxygen represents about half of the
world s mass outside, 66% of the human s mass body and nine tenths of the mass of water. A lot
of oxygen can be removed from condensed air through a procedure known as fragmentary
refining. Oxygen can likewise be delivered through the electrolysis of water or by warming
potassium chlorate. A reduction in the measure of oxygen per unit volume of air results in a
deficient measure of oxygen entering the circulatory system. The body responds to this condition
quickly. This shortage in oxygen is called Hypoxia. At the point when the body recaptures its
ordinary oxygen supply, one may recuperate from hypoxia. A complete absence of oxygen, which
brings about changeless physical harm or passing, is called Anoxia.
The element oxygen atomic weight is 15.999 and it is classified as a gas and nonmetal. It has the
density of 1.429g/L and the melting pint of 218.79 degree Celsius and 361.82 degree Fahrenheit.
It also has the boiling point of 182.95 degree Celsius and 297.31 degree

Differences Between Arab Immigrants And White Race
Arab immigrants living in the Western society often compare their identity to the White race. The
two main factors that differentiate the Arab immigrants and the Western White race are the two
factors of gender and religion. Gender relations is often associated with Arabs creating their
identity compared to the whites, this is because gender is associated with gender roles and the
hierarchy of power (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 372). Another type of comparison is the factor of religion;
White Christians often follow the Bible, which talk about the ideal breadwinner man and caretaker
women. But, studies have shown that between Christians and White women both were affected by
religiosity and ethnicity that relate to traditional gender roles (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 374) In the western
society, Arab women can choose to accept or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This word is often associated with recent Arab immigrants who have not fully adopted the
mainstream culture (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 379). Moreover, the boater identity was seen as
undesirable label, therefore, more immigrants worked hard to get rid of this label over time to
be considered Arab American (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 380). Conflicts also arise between girls who
wear hijabs and those who choose not too; girls who wear hijabs are seen as morally superior
which symbolizes the pinnacle of respect and distances themselves from the idea of freedom
(Ajrouch, 2004, p. 383). Another aspect compares the relation between Arab men and women;
women are expected to adhere to the religious restrictions as it enhances their worth. An example of
this would be Arab girls not getting into relationship or doing anything sexually with a guy; this is
a double standard that the men do not have to follow through with and only perpetuates the idea of
the social hierarchy with men on

Analysis Of The Poem The Tigers Aunt Jennifer s Tigers
In reference to the subordinate position of women in American society, Malala Yousafzai once
interestingly stated We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back. This idea of women
being held back and unable to exercise their individual identities in society is explored in Adrienne
Rich s Aunt Jennifer s Tigers. Specifically, the womanpoet examines the marginalization of
women in society through the clear juxtaposition of Aunt Jennifer s desire to be powerful like the
fearless tigers, and the reality of her life as the subject of subjugation by her husband. In reading
about the unfair oppression of Aunt Jennifer by a man, I became extremely emotional because I
have a younger sister and involuntarily envisioned my own role in contributing to an American
patriarchal society that devalues women and strips them of influence because of my own status as
a male. Through the first stanza of the poem, the tigers Aunt Jennifer hopes to embody are quickly
revealed and characterized by their fearless and powerful qualities. Their unique attributes are
revealed when the poet writes: Aunt Jennifer s tigers prance across a screen... They do not fear the
men beneath the tree; / They pace in sleek chivalric certainty. Just as art is a manifestation of the
human mind and spirit, the tigers Aunt Jennifer creates through art are representative of the
qualities she hopes to have in her own life. They are powerful figures who do not fear the men
beneath the tree and instead pace in

Analysis Of Flying By Alice Miller
Flying, by Alice Miller is a complex story about a woman named Allie, who reminisces about a
time spent when her cousin Mack taught her to fly when she was just a young girl. On different
occasions when Mack visited, he would show her how to do new things. As Allie grew up she
found herself thinking of the secret that Mack shared with her and how he told her not to tell
anyone or she may get hurt. Allie longed for the feeling of flying, if she could just reach out and
talk to Mack but too much time had passed. She dreams of flying in her sleep, not for long
periods of time, but just enough to embrace that feeling she had years ago. She wonders if many
people have experienced flying the way that she has and if she could fly by herself without
Mack. One day, Allie tries to fly on her own and succeeds, soaring higher than she did with
Mack. Before Allie knew it, she was flying through the clouds and around town. Now that Allie
has experienced the feeling of flying again, more than ever she wanted to share with her kids.
One night after the children were asleep she wanted to share her secret with her boys but instead
chose her daughter. Miller suggests that when a person is afraid of doing something on their
own, sometimes it just takes a little bit of courage to step out and let go of the things that could
be holding a person back. Allie appears to be a lonely person, although married and with three
children of her own. She has no one that she can share her secret of

of advice saying, Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition, even if it be only the
apparently innocent one of distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries (162). Victor
realizes his life has been ruined because of his scientific ambition, and he also acknowledges that
the sins of his past will continue to haunt him. In the end, the creature causes Victor s death just as
the creature killed his family and friends; therefore, Victor neglects his health and travels to harsh

task of creating life. The creature ends up ruining Victor s life, and he has only the knowledge he

however, he could have used it to benefit mankind. Knowledge causes Victor to become ambitious,

The Causes Of The European Colonization Of North America
The European conquest of North America was not inevitable. Small groups of Europeans claimed
large areas densely populated by hostile Indian nations. The English and Spanish faced particularly
fierce resistance from the Wampanoag and Pueblo peoples in present day New England and the
American Southwest. The Wampanoags and Pueblos both revolted against European colonization
and conquest in 1675 and 1680 due to attacks on their sovereignty, attacks on their welfare, and
mass death. The Pueblos were more successful than the Wampanoags because they gained from the
revolts while the New England Nations lost everything during King Philip s War. In both cases,
Indian nations formed the first pan indigenous, anti European alliances, and Europeans secured a
beachhead in North America King Philip s War began due to escalating Puritan attacks on
Wampanoagsovereignty, forcing the Confederacy into a war for survival. The path to war began in
1662 when the Wampanoag Chief Metacomet rose to power. He denounced illegal Puritan seizure
of Wampanoag traditional hunting grounds. On multiple occasions, English settlers jailed
Wampanoag hunters for trespassing on ancestral Indian lands. This attack on Wampanoag
sovereignty denied that Indians could have a legitimate claim to their own territory. By
accomplishing this, English colonists could declare the Indian s authority void as an excuse to take
more land. Relations soured in December of 1674 when John Sassamon, a Christian Indian, was
murdered by Wampanoags for reporting Metacomet s war preparations to the English. Puritans
arrested three Wampanoags, tried them for murder, and hanged them. This was the first time
English tried an Indian for crimes against another Indian. The trial demonstrated that the English
believed they also had authority over Metacomet s people. By using the English courts to try an
Indian on Indian murder, the Puritans again claimed the Wampanoags had no authority, and
therefore were not worthy of respect as a nation. This disrespect allowed the Puritans to see them
not as people, but as pests to be removed from their land. Beliefs such as this led to further
escalation by the Puritan leaders. Tensions rose, and Metacomet formed a coalition

The Revolution And Its Effects On The American Revolution
It is generally agreed upon that the Revolution was guaranteed even foretold since the idea of
settling on it was even suggested no one can give a large group of people the idea to run
themselves and still keep control from thousands of miles away. England had it, but lost that
control of their child nation in 1766 when they revoked the Stamp Act and gave the colonists the
notion that they had the power and authority to independently run the budding country. After being
allowed this minute freedom, the colonists were not pleased with Parliament s taxes and attempts
of an iron fist hold on the Americas and along with their opposing views on nearly everything,
decided that they were no longer pleased with being considered British. Salutary neglect also
contributed to the colonists inflated sense of pride aptly named because at this time England
neglected the colonies, giving them room for individual theories, politics, beliefs, and the abilities
to run their own lives for a while. The freedom was too much for them to go back to how things
were before when England decided to tighten their grip. At this time, the colonists started a war to
free themselves. Parliamentary taxation was the catalyst to the slew of problems the Americans
were having with their over seas overlords. The preliminary Parliament imposed tax that threatened
the colonies was the Molasses Act, which was caused by profit loss for the British under the
Navigation Acts, and their need to recoup

Persuasive Essay About Cheating
Everyone Does It For most, it is their worst nightmare to be caught in situations of misconduct.
Starting with a simple problem an unfinished test or loneliness ,these situations entice an act of
terrible character. In most instances, the immoral choice stem from a yearning of something
positive: a passing grade, attention, a win by attaining what they want. Although it can make a
heart race, this act does not risk bodily injury (nothing similar to skydiving or roller coasters). The
act is not not revealing a crush or stumbling over words during a public speech; it is sinister,
scandalous, and selfish. Most do it, yet all fear it cheating. The last five minutes of class flew by,
and with seven unanswered questions there are only a few options: leave them blank, copy the
answers of the closest person, or guess. These choices are black and white; two choices are good
while the latter is unethical. Since cheating is trivial to most students, they go with that choice.
Cheating requires less work and is a considerably easy task to accomplish, and teachers take it
seriously. In the directions before a test these words are always mentioned, No phones, no talking,
keep your eyes to yourselves. Cheating will result in a zero. The only person you hurt is yourself.
Although the last statement leaves the listener with a feeling of unease and disdain for the cheating
they have committed at any point in their life, the statement is not always true.

Adam Smith s Wealth Of Nations

PHIL 225
First Exegetical/Critical Paper
Professor Michael Schleeter
October 5, 2015
Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations
For Smith, the value of all commodities that the market is supposed to promote is not come from
the money price, but come from the amount of labor required to purchase them because nobody
wants to purchase a good that is created with less effort. Therefore, the real value that the market
needs to promote is the labor that is invested in the product. For example, in real life diamond or
gold is very expensive but people do not really need them because without them, people still alive.
On the other hand, water or food is not as expensive as diamond or gold, but they are very
necessary in real life because we cannot survive without water and foods. According to Smith, to
understand the difference from these prices, we can look at the amount of labor needed to bring
these products to market. The money price of a particular community may fluctuate from a variety
of reasons, but the amount of labor needed to purchase it remains constant.
To promote that value, we should improve the division of labor, which is the greatest improvement

The Monsanto Case Analysis
The objective of this report is to analyze the differences in Monsanto s experiences in the United
States and Europe and the reasons of opposition in Europe, despite that, why Monsanto pushed
ahead so hard.
Monsanto is a leading biotechnology company, which an American based company. The company
had received import approval of some products before concerns were elevated. They responded by
launching an advertising campaign to discuss the potential benefits of biotechnology. Monsanto was
trying to impose America s food and production systems on the European life. Cultural differences
were not factored into the European launch of GM foods by the biotechnology industry.

Europeans became increasingly skeptical that food regulatory authorities could adequately monitor
and regulate the food supply. Europe based NGOs began to champion an anti biotech movement in
Europe, forming collaborative efforts to link and coordinate their activities.
2. The reasons of opposition in Europe
Despite the legality GM foods introduction to Europe, there were many points of resistance by
European citizens, consumers, and activists. Monsanto was not prepared for the negative response
by environmental protection groups.
в‘ European culture differ from U.S culture
European cultures placed great confidence in knowledge learned through historical experience.
Even food practices that were questionable by today s standards were accepted in Europe of they
had been going in for centuries without major incident. Factions of the European public opposed
the introduction of GM foods technology, and the majority of European citizens believed more
caution was in order. Despite public trepidation, Monsanto continued to stand by its genetic
engineering program and planned to push ahead with the introduction of GM foods to the European
market. This position was motivated in part by the success of the products in the United States.
в‘ЎThe misunderstanding of advertising in Europe
Monsanto s introduction of GM foods in Europe faced serious challenges. As a fundamentally new
type of food product, GM s had no historical experience that people could rely on. Many at

O Brien and Fossie in The Things They Carried Essay
When many think of a great, memorable story, they will probably remember an inspirational or
coming of age novel, or Bildungsroman. In many ways, The Things They Carried is an exemplary
Bildungsroman as it carries the reader through the lives and problems of every soldier within its
pages. Each man is witnessed as he goes through his own maturation and personal times of struggle
and hardships. Some are focused on more than others, but each man has a story to tell, each a moral
to teach. Throughout The Things They Carried, both Tim O?Brien and Mark Fossie experience a
significant amount of personal maturation by gaining new knowledge about themselves, the Vietnam
War, and the world around them. There are very few times when a person goes... Show more content

When O?Brien is shot and calls for Bobby Jorgenson to come to his aid, he realizes that
Jorgenson is too afraid to help his fellow soldiers out. O?Brien writes that he then felt a deep
hatred for Jorgenson and wants to get him back. On the brink of a maniacal outburst against the
new medic, O?Brien writes, ?I?d come to this war a quiet, thoughtful sort of person?, but after
seven months in the bush I realized that those high, civilized trappings had somehow been crushed
under the weight of the simple daily realities. I?d turned mean inside? (200). Here, O?Brien
conveys to the reader that Vietnam had taken over nearly his entire body and personality, causing
him to transform into an unrelenting, savage being. O?Brien learned that wars can change people,
as the Vietnam War changed him. When Mark Fossie realizes that Mary Anne, along with the six
Green Berets, has gone off into the jungles the previous night, he learns that the Vietnam War is a
merciless trap that can take anybody or anything and transform it into something unrecognizable.
He learns that the war has the power to completely change even somebody like his sweet
girlfriend, Mary Anne. This insight causes Fossie to feel sorrow. ?The grief took (Fossie) by the
throat and squeezed and would not let go? (105). Gaining common knowledge is one thing, but

Evaluating Arguments For Film s Magic Essay
Evaluating Arguments in Film
Although films are a relatively new form of art, they have shaped the modern world more than
any other. It is true that visual art is equally compelling, but films appear as persuasive and capture
the viewer s emotions and interests. This effectiveness is on account of a movie s magic, which is
simply the cinematography techniques that filmmakers apply. These techniques are esoteric, and so
hidden from the eyes of an ordinary viewer. Only trained eyes can detect the filmmakers
approaches and judge whether or not they are relevant. When evaluating a film, one resort to two
objects. As it were, the first is to assess the film s magic, which refers to the ability of a film to
capture and demand a viewer s attention. Design, costumes, and lighting often appeal to this
quarter. The second object is the film s content. In other words, the story matters more than the
representation. Through the story, the filmmakers can postulate an argument, which the viewers
can subtly engage (Winkler 13). In many cases, the audience can forget the set designs and the
costumes, but not the words and actions of the characters. Troy is one of the movies with a powerful
argument.
Indeed, Troy is an epic film, and would continue to entertain and educate for generations to come.
It is a great film because of the presentation and the economic use of words. Each phrase seems to
be in a perfect place. The film is an adaptation of Homer s Iliad, a great story of

Pool Pockets Case Study
Pool Pockets For this problem we have a modified pool table that only has four pockets, one in
each corner. The ball leaves the bottom left corner at a forty five degree angle and rebounds off
the wall at a forty five degree angle until it lands in a pocket (corner). We have to collect data
containing the dimensions of the table we used, the number of rebounds it took for the ball to
land in a pocket, and which pocket it will land in. We will use this data to find patterns and
attempt to find a way to predict the number of rebounds and which pocket the ball will land in. For
this problem, I started by drawing and solving many different pool tables dimensions. I then found
a couple of patterns. They were; If both the dimensions are the

Central Land Issues Of The United States
Central Land Issues
In the United States, Long Island is one of the most densely populated regions where land is a
hot commodity. The population as of 2014 was over 7.8 million. As a result, of many people
living in a fixed area a large amount of waste starts to develop. Waste is being left behind after
many human activities. If nonbiodegradable products are not disposed of properly; the vast
population growth is forcing the further building of homes and roads which is encroaching upon
natural habitats.
Since humans are moving into the natural habitats plant species are dwindling in numbers. Which
alters the habitats for which birds relied on for a camouflaged and protected home? Migratory
birds are also moving to other areas due to the land pollution. Human waste, cigarette butts, snack
wrappers, and beverage containers are all contributing to the growing land pollution.
Other pollution sources include chemical plants, coal fired power stations, oil refineries, nuclear
waste disposal activity, large animal farms, plastic factories, and metal production factories. The
soil becomes contaminated by many chemicals and pathogens; this passes on to humans through
direct contact via food and water. Overuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers causes toxins to
enter the food chain.
There are critical environmental issues that result from land pollution. People live and work in
areas where land waste is dumped. Some toxic chemicals coming from waste causes deformities
and are

Denver Race Riot
The Chinese population of the United States used perseverance, resiliency and hard work to prove
that they could succeed in a country that has blatantly discriminated against them and labeled them
as undesirable and ineligible for citizenship.
During the California Gold Rush in the mid 1800s, the United States saw an influx of immigrants
from different parts of the world. The Chinese in particular were desperately trying to escape
deplorable economic conditions in their native country. When the dream of harvesting gold turned
elusive in California, they sought employment doing hard labor in the railroad construction. As
this line of work eventually dried up as well, a few daring Chinese immigrants decided to explore
Colorado in the 1860s. Attracted by the Colorado Gold Rush, they established Denver s
Chinatown. As William Wei writes: The neighborhood was established around 1870 on Wazee
Street between fifteenth and seventeenth Street. This area of town became known by the white
population as Hop Alley, it also became infamous because of the establishment of opium dens,
where there was alleged gambling and prostitution. The claim that these vices were rampant in
Chinatown were grossly exaggerated and it was mostly white patrons who visited the opium dens.
The origin of these claims was due to a campaign aimed at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a precursor to the riot, the Democratic Party led a parade against the Chinese. These so called
politicians looked to strengthen their following by capitalizing on the dislike of whites against
Chinese. On October 31 1880, a riot broke out after an altercation between several white men and
two Chinese individuals. Rioters marched through Chinatown destroying property and killing a
Chinese man named Look Young. According to a report: Look was lassoed and dragged to death,

Coup-Proofing Analysis
Lecture 20: When do authoritarian militaries side with protesters? (Nov 15)
In Coup proofing, Military Defection, and the Arab Spring, Michael Makara examines how
different coup proofing strategies help prevent military defection (334). Looking specifically at
Egypt, Syria, and Yemen during the Arab Spring, he claims that whereas parallel security
institutions and bribes ( material incentives ) can promote discord that renders the military prone to
defection in times of mass anti government protest, ethnic stacking increases the likelihood of
maintaining military loyalty. Ethnic stacking, he argues, takes advantage of communal ties, and the
Syrian regime is a prime example of a government that employed this tactic (335). Egypt,
conversely, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Egyptian Revolution transpired in 2011, Medvedev called Mubarak to communicate
his hope that tensions would be resolved peacefully and, more saliently, stressed the urgency of
ensuring security for the Russian Embassy in Cairo and Russians living in Egypt (Reuters). Only
after Morsi s ousting did relations, particularly military and economic cooperation, between Egypt
and Russia strengthen (Nashashibi); in fact, Putin and el Sisi had met prior to Morsi s ousting (Al
Jazeera). With Yemen, Russia has been calling for a military ceasefire, but is not nearly as invested
in the crisis as Saudi Arabia or the United States is (Lauria). Russia s major intervention has been
in Syria, where it openly stations military assets, built a permanent airbase, and sends attack
helicopters against rebel forces. Russia s exceptionally active backing of Assad s regime has clear
potential impact on the likelihood of military defection. The economic and military resources at
Russia s disposal and that it supplies to the Syrian government consolidate the Assad
administration, allowing it to withstand uprisings in ways that Mubarak and Saleh were unable to.
This understanding provides little incentive for military officials to defect, since they recognize
that coup attempts will likely be quashed by the combined power of Russian and loyalist Syrian
forces. Russia s support makes overcoming opposition and winning the war seem

Shaping A Christian Worldview Essay
One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always
surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in
all areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option,
rather it is our duty to transform our modern culture. To do this we must be closely positioned with
Scripture. Accomplishing this keeps the Christian grounded and does not give secular culture
undue stature. Jesustaught that the salt of believers transformed by the gospel would alter the
world. This idea means that contemporary Christians must be discerners of truth in our time. Since,
the process of transforming culture requires that we know what needs to be changed and what does
not. Godhas entrusted us with duty to help transform under the comprehension of Biblical claims....

God s mandate included instructions relating to the stewardship of His creation. The Bible says,
God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue
it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves
on the ground (Gen. 1:28). Man, being created in God s image, is to subdue and to form a
culture. The textbook rightly points out the secularism and pluralism dominates many aspects of
this worldly culture. This has been reflected in many different ways. Much of America has lost
belief in a divine creator, which has moved us down a path of no foundation for order. Second,
modern thought has instilled a sense of individual achievement and a loss of a moral conscience
where our moral norms are absent of religion. Finally, as we have progressed in modern society,
these effects have lead to a fragile secular

Comparison Of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)
Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) has prevalence rating of about 2 to 4% in men and about
0.5 to 1% in women (Black, 2015). Conversely, it is hypothesized that about 1% of individuals
have psychopathy (Ogloff, 2006). Within this paper, the differences and similarities of these two
terms will be discussed. Firstly, ASPD and psychopathy will be defined and the history and practical
use will be discussed. In addition, there will be an examination of the criminal aspects of
psychopathy and ASPD. Furthermore, a scrutiny over how assessing the risks of reoffending for
both conditions will take place. Lastly, the treatment differences and similarities will be revealed.
The definition of psychopathy involves deficits in areas of functioning, such as, selective attention,
anxiety and fear processing, moral reasoning, and criminal violations of society s rules (Vien Beech,
2006). Furthermore, there are a number of personality qualities linked with psychopathy, which
include, interpersonal and affective traits such as, lack of empathy, shallow affect, callousness,
shallow emotions, grandiosity, superficiality, manipulation, and charisma(De Brito, Viding,
Kumari, Blackwood, Hodgins, 2013; Murrie, Boccaccini, Caperton, Ruffino, 2012). In addition,

Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg
Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as
in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the
film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a
character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way
Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During
the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing
poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing
can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool
Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say
good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a
lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not
last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his
situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start
receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to
follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working
on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group

Questions On Consumer s Behavior
There are four basic assumptions that are made by economists taking into consideration a consumer
s behavior. When economists pursue their research they take into account the consumer s behavior
having clear preferences, a budget constraint, the determination of price, and rational behavior.
Having these assumptions allows economists to know what the consumer is thinking while
considering a good or service. Since every persons wants/needs are different, we can assume that
different households have different preferences towards goods and services. Having clear
preferences is one assumption made by economists that consumers show in their behavior. This
involves knowing as a consumer, the certain goods and services that are available in the market.
However, the buyer must also have some knowledge of the amount of marginal utility they will
receive from products they may be potentially purchasing. When a consumer has clear preferences
they typically react in different ways: complete, monotonic, and transitivity. Complete meaning,
they rank their goods on their preferences. Monotonic is describing the consumer as having the
attitude more is better . Transitivity prefers goods in different ways meaning: if you prefer Bud
Light to Coors Light, but Coors Light to Budweiser than you prefer Bud Light to Budweiser. The
second assumption determined by economists focuses on the budget constraint. The consumer has a
various amount of income, which then gives them a

The analytical component helps students to break down the problem, process the information, and solve it. In one study Sternberg (2000), examined how the method of delivery of content in school affected academic performance. The conducted study was in Raleigh, North Carolina and another one in Baltimore, Maryland, and Fresno, California. The student sample in Raleigh, North Carolina was mostly from low income families, totaling 225. The other sample was of students from middle to upper middle class families, totaling 142. The test involved teaching by using three primary methods. In the first one, students had no interventions with the teaching, with the main purpose was to memorize. In the second group was taught how to analyze the information. In the final group had applied the analytical, creativity, and practical strategies for the teaching. The students tested, and the last group (infused creativity, analytical, and practical interventions) outperformed the rest. • 3. Why I Want To Understand The Brain By Anne Sexton Sexton s poem allowed me to understand what it must feel like to live with a mental illness such as depression. I was quite frightened to find that Sexton constantly wanted to kill herself. Her confessional style of poetry allowed me to understand that this type of mental illness is a reality for people. The way in which Anne Sexton describes her desire for death, allowed me to understand the power depression held on her mind and body. The need to end her life must have meant that dying outweighed any need to live. Anne Sexton had two children and I am shocked she would abandon these two children for an escape from the world. • 4. Symbiosis And Eukaryotes Symbioses have played an important role in the origins and evolution of cells and organisms with novel properties. One of the most significant outcomes of symbiosis, is the formation of eukaryotes through either primary or secondary endosymbiosis which allowed for the development of many unique organelles present today in eukaryotes, notably chloroplasts and mitochondria. Primary endosymbiosis is the engulfment of a prokaryote by a eukaryoteforming a plastid, compared to secondary endosymbiosis: a eukaryote engulfs another eukaryote to form a plastid (Archibald et al, 2002). Through endosymbiosis, the endosymbionts are able to bring in unique metabolic and signalling capabilities beneficial to the host (Lake, 2009). However, mutually dependent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both chloroplasts and mitochondria contain circular DNA knowns as chloroplast DNA and mitochondrial DNA respectively, signifying that both organelles have prokaryotic origins. The presence of mitochondria in eukaryotes allows for ATP synthesis through the electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation (Chinney et al, 2003), thus enabling eukaryotes to satisfy their high metabolic requirements, particularly in animals. The production of large amounts of ATP energy allows for the sustenance of life in a wide variety of environmental conditions as they are able to produce the energy required. The unique double membrane of the mitochondria suggest that it was formed as a result of primary symbiosis, and are homologous to plastids. Similarly chloroplasts enable eukaryotes to take advantage of sunlight as a natural resource, which allows the process of photosynthesis, where the reaction of carbon dioxide and water is converted to glucose and oxygen gas (Cogdell, 2013), using light energy produced by the sun with the aid of chlorophyll. This conversion of light energy into chemical energy forms the primary source of all energy accessible by the animal consumers on land, through the producers the plants. At the cellular level, protists are the most simple examples of endosymbiosis. When encountering the title of this scholarly journal, Psychoanalysis, Gothic Children s Literature, and the Canonization of Coraline , I was excited to delve into the gothic terrain of the subconscious. However, ChloГ© Germaine Buckley s paper does not give us a straightforward analytical reading, but instead challenges the dominant modes of interpretationwhen dealing with children s literature. Buckley engages with Neil Gaiman s Coraline, challenging some of the critical responses to the book, as well as drawing in some foundational literary criticism authors and thinkers such as Sigmund Freud, Roland Barthes and Lewis Carroll. Buckley s intention with this paper is to oppose restrictive interpretations of Coraline, as she posits the book to be far more complex than most examples of children s literature. Freud s Uncanny , gothicism, and psychoanalysishave been posited as the best tools for approaching children s literature by the critics Buckley intends to circumvent. She believes these methods are a tangled mess that confuse origin with originality, that mistake the interpretation of Coraline s influences as interpretations of the book itself. Buckley notices that Gaiman has drawn satirically from Freud, offering a crash course for children on psychoanalysis and the uncanny. With this in mind, Buckley wants to make room for more postmodern interpretations that engage intertextuality and satirical elements, in order to fully appreciate the scope of Gaiman s book. ... Chemistry Practical Investigation-Volumetric Analysis Chemistry Practical Investigation Volumetric Analysis Discussion: Based on the data obtained, the precision of obtaining the data is high. This is because the data shows closeness between one another. It shows the reproducibility of a set of measured quantity. The data obtained showed three concordant titres where the titre volumes differ by less than 0.1mL from the highest to the lowest. The variability of a measurement cannot be determined from a single measurement, therefore multiple measurements (replicates) are made to check reproducibility. Three concordant titres are needed to calculate the average titre. Concordant titre is when you are calculating the concentration of a solution by titration the expression concordant titres refers to are a series of successive titration with similar results. In practice this may be three successive titres with readings within a 0.10mL range which you then find the average titre value for the concentration calculation. Concordant titre is done to minimize the effect of random error and improve the precision result as precision is correspondent to the random errors of the measurement process. Random errors are caused by factors that randomly affect measurement. Random errors are errors in measurement that lead to measured values being inconsistent. We even rely on each other to bring a sense of familiarity and security to our communities just by knowing one another. If we all remained anonymous, then we could not rely on each other to satisfy these vital societal needs. Conversely, some might believe that many conflicts derive from close connectivity and that most crime is not random, but rather is committed against a known friend, relative, or foe. While these crimes do exist, encouraging people to be antisocial and not form these relationships is impractical and improbable. • 26. Milton Friedman Summary American Economists, Milton Friedman stated in his famous 1970 New York Times Magazine article, the manager is the agent of the individuals who own the corporation , he continues with writing about how the manager s primary responsibility is to conduct the business in accordance with [the owner s] desires . While at this time, this assumption was greatly appreciated considered, many economists have to come to the realization that there are a lot of flaws associated with this view. It has since then been developed and critiqued. In this essay, it is my intention to discuss the implications and problems that came along with Friedman s opinion. Touching upon theories such as the principal agenttheory to solidify the limitations of this view in practice. I will also discuss the relationship between a shareholder centered perspective and value transfer and value creation. First, we must understand what Friedman s view is on corporate social responsibility. What are the social responsibilities that a corporationmust follow? Friedman discussed in his article that it is the corporation s responsibility to make as much money as possible for the stockholder. This statement made by him made me wonder about safety for the workers, excessive pollution, and how situations are handled in less developed countries and child labor laws. I think that Friedman was not aware how this statement would be interpreted, especially in an inappropriate way. He was probably looking at the short ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Different Stages Of Cell Division 1) Cell division is typically explained through the progression of 4 distinct phases, G1, S, G2, and M, and can be tracked through CDK complex concentration ranges. CDKs are cyclin dependent kinases, which regulate the cell cycle of eukaryotic cells; as suggested by the name, protein kinases are an enzyme that is dependent on cyclin for the regulation of cell division through the addition of phosphate groups. The different stages of the cell cycle correlate with different levels of cyclin and act as a threshold that once reached, triggers a phase transition. For example, for a cell to move out of G2 phase into M phase, Cyclin B interacts with the CDK1 complex, and causes phosphorylation to stimulate the phase shift; however, if the stage is not complete, the whole process slows down to accommodate the discrepancy in CDK complexes (Nelson Education, figure 9.17, page 191). This can be caused by several things, such as the presence of damaged or deformed DNA, or externally through contact inhibition, where a delay in phase shift is caused by partial or incomplete contact of all cells. If there is only partial cell contact, contact inhibition will typically prevent progression past the G1 phase until there is complete cell contact, which can be reflected in variable levels of the CDK complex(Nelson Education, page 191). Overall, CDK regulates cell division through the combination of CDK and cyclin, the activation of protein via a phosphate group that triggers a phase change, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Taking a Look at Prejudice and Ignorance Prejudice and ignorance are two of the most prominent ills of our society today. The way gay soldiers are treated today is no exception. Many have been forced to resign due to their sexual orientation, which has little or nothing to do with their ability as soldiers. Most members of our armed forces have no experience in relating to gaypeople, resulting in a fear that has caused pain to many people, both homosexual and heterosexual. In 2010, Obama put this country into place when he signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 . Even though this was signed, it is still a very heated debate within the government and this society. People should not have to worry about being gay when they sign up to protect their country. They also should not be judged on the basis of their sexuality. When Obama signed the, Don t Ask, Don t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 , it got rid of the original Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act that was signed by President Clinton in 1993. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell Act , was not working out as planned. Instead of helping the gay community, it made things a lot worse. In an article written by Lincoln Caplan, he states, Investigators routinely ask soldiers to name other marines rumored to be gay and threaten them if they don t confess to homosexual acts. The two main factors that differentiate the Arab immigrants and the Western White race are the two factors of gender and religion. Gender relations is often associated with Arabs creating their identity compared to the whites, this is because gender is associated with gender roles and the hierarchy of power (Ajrouch, 2004, p. 372). Another type of comparison is the factor of religion; White Christians often follow the Bible, which talk about the ideal breadwinner man and caretaker women. This idea of women being held back and unable to exercise their individual identities in society is explored in Adrienne Rich s Aunt Jennifer s Tigers. Specifically, the womanpoet examines the marginalization of women in society through the clear juxtaposition of Aunt Jennifer s desire to be powerful like the fearless tigers, and the reality of her life as the subject of subjugation by her husband. In reading about the unfair oppression of Aunt Jennifer by a man, I became extremely emotional because I have a younger sister and involuntarily envisioned my own role in contributing to an American patriarchal society that devalues women and strips them of influence because of my own status as a male. • 34. Analysis Of Flying By Alice Miller Flying, by Alice Miller is a complex story about a woman named Allie, who reminisces about a time spent when her cousin Mack taught her to fly when she was just a young girl. On different occasions when Mack visited, he would show her how to do new things. As Allie grew up she found herself thinking of the secret that Mack shared with her and how he told her not to tell anyone or she may get hurt. Allie longed for the feeling of flying, if she could just reach out and talk to Mack but too much time had passed. She dreams of flying in her sleep, not for long periods of time, but just enough to embrace that feeling she had years ago. She wonders if many people have experienced flying the way that she has and if she could fly by herself without Mack. One day, Allie tries to fly on her own and succeeds, soaring higher than she did with Mack. Before Allie knew it, she was flying through the clouds and around town. Now that Allie has experienced the feeling of flying again, more than ever she wanted to share with her kids. One night after the children were asleep she wanted to share her secret with her boys but instead chose her daughter. Miller suggests that when a person is afraid of doing something on their own, sometimes it just takes a little bit of courage to step out and let go of the things that could be holding a person back. Allie appears to be a lonely person, although married and with three children of her own. She has no one that she can share her secret of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Causes Of The European Colonization Of North America The European conquest of North America was not inevitable. Small groups of Europeans claimed large areas densely populated by hostile Indian nations. The English and Spanish faced particularly fierce resistance from the Wampanoag and Pueblo peoples in present day New England and the American Southwest. The Wampanoags and Pueblos both revolted against European colonization and conquest in 1675 and 1680 due to attacks on their sovereignty, attacks on their welfare, and mass death. The Pueblos were more successful than the Wampanoags because they gained from the revolts while the New England Nations lost everything during King Philip s War. In both cases, Indian nations formed the first pan indigenous, anti European alliances, and Europeans secured a beachhead in North America King Philip s War began due to escalating Puritan attacks on Wampanoagsovereignty, forcing the Confederacy into a war for survival. The path to war began in 1662 when the Wampanoag Chief Metacomet rose to power. He denounced illegal Puritan seizure of Wampanoag traditional hunting grounds. On multiple occasions, English settlers jailed Wampanoag hunters for trespassing on ancestral Indian lands. This attack on Wampanoag sovereignty denied that Indians could have a legitimate claim to their own territory. By accomplishing this, English colonists could declare the Indian s authority void as an excuse to take more land. Relations soured in December of 1674 when John Sassamon, a Christian Indian, was murdered by Wampanoags for reporting Metacomet s war preparations to the English. Puritans arrested three Wampanoags, tried them for murder, and hanged them. This was the first time English tried an Indian for crimes against another Indian. The trial demonstrated that the English believed they also had authority over Metacomet s people. By using the English courts to try an Indian on Indian murder, the Puritans again claimed the Wampanoags had no authority, and therefore were not worthy of respect as a nation. This disrespect allowed the Puritans to see them not as people, but as pests to be removed from their land. Beliefs such as this led to further escalation by the Puritan leaders. The Revolution And Its Effects On The American Revolution It is generally agreed upon that the Revolution was guaranteed even foretold since the idea of settling on it was even suggested no one can give a large group of people the idea to run themselves and still keep control from thousands of miles away. England had it, but lost that control of their child nation in 1766 when they revoked the Stamp Act and gave the colonists the notion that they had the power and authority to independently run the budding country. After being allowed this minute freedom, the colonists were not pleased with Parliament s taxes and attempts of an iron fist hold on the Americas and along with their opposing views on nearly everything, decided that they were no longer pleased with being considered British. Salutary neglect also contributed to the colonists inflated sense of pride aptly named because at this time England neglected the colonies, giving them room for individual theories, politics, beliefs, and the abilities to run their own lives for a while. The freedom was too much for them to go back to how things were before when England decided to tighten their grip. At this time, the colonists started a war to free themselves. Adam Smith s Wealth Of Nations Thuy Hua PHIL 225 First Exegetical/Critical Paper Professor Michael Schleeter October 5, 2015 Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations For Smith, the value of all commodities that the market is supposed to promote is not come from the money price, but come from the amount of labor required to purchase them because nobody wants to purchase a good that is created with less effort. Therefore, the real value that the market needs to promote is the labor that is invested in the product. For example, in real life diamond or gold is very expensive but people do not really need them because without them, people still alive. On the other hand, water or food is not as expensive as diamond or gold, but they are very necessary in real life because we cannot survive without water and foods. According to Smith, to understand the difference from these prices, we can look at the amount of labor needed to bring these products to market. The money price of a particular community may fluctuate from a variety of reasons, but the amount of labor needed to purchase it remains constant. To promote that value, we should improve the division of labor, which is the greatest improvement in the productive power of labor. Division of labor is always has the important role in increasing productivity exponentially of a company. These techniques are esoteric, and so hidden from the eyes of an ordinary viewer. Only trained eyes can detect the filmmakers approaches and judge whether or not they are relevant. When evaluating a film, one resort to two objects. As it were, the first is to assess the film s magic, which refers to the ability of a film to capture and demand a viewer s attention. Design, costumes, and lighting often appeal to this quarter. The second object is the film s content. In other words, the story matters more than the representation. Through the story, the filmmakers can postulate an argument, which the viewers can subtly engage (Winkler 13). In many cases, the audience can forget the set designs and the costumes, but not the words and actions of the characters. Troy is one of the movies with a powerful argument. Indeed, Troy is an epic film, and would continue to entertain and educate for generations to come. It is a great film because of the presentation and the economic use of words. Each phrase seems to be in a perfect place. The film is an adaptation of Homer s Iliad, a great story of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Pool Pockets Case Study Pool Pockets For this problem we have a modified pool table that only has four pockets, one in each corner. The ball leaves the bottom left corner at a forty five degree angle and rebounds off the wall at a forty five degree angle until it lands in a pocket (corner). We have to collect data containing the dimensions of the table we used, the number of rebounds it took for the ball to land in a pocket, and which pocket it will land in. We will use this data to find patterns and attempt to find a way to predict the number of rebounds and which pocket the ball will land in. For this problem, I started by drawing and solving many different pool tables dimensions. I then found a couple of patterns. They were; If both the dimensions are the ... • 46. Central Land Issues Of The United States Central Land Issues In the United States, Long Island is one of the most densely populated regions where land is a hot commodity. The population as of 2014 was over 7.8 million. As a result, of many people living in a fixed area a large amount of waste starts to develop. Waste is being left behind after many human activities. If nonbiodegradable products are not disposed of properly; the vast population growth is forcing the further building of homes and roads which is encroaching upon natural habitats. Since humans are moving into the natural habitats plant species are dwindling in numbers. Which alters the habitats for which birds relied on for a camouflaged and protected home? Migratory birds are also moving to other areas due to the land pollution. Human waste, cigarette butts, snack wrappers, and beverage containers are all contributing to the growing land pollution. Other pollution sources include chemical plants, coal fired power stations, oil refineries, nuclear waste disposal activity, large animal farms, plastic factories, and metal production factories. The soil becomes contaminated by many chemicals and pathogens; this passes on to humans through direct contact via food and water. Overuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers causes toxins to enter the food chain. There are critical environmental issues that result from land pollution. People live and work in areas where land waste is dumped. Some toxic chemicals coming from waste causes deformities and are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Denver Race Riot The Chinese population of the United States used perseverance, resiliency and hard work to prove that they could succeed in a country that has blatantly discriminated against them and labeled them as undesirable and ineligible for citizenship. During the California Gold Rush in the mid 1800s, the United States saw an influx of immigrants from different parts of the world. The Chinese in particular were desperately trying to escape deplorable economic conditions in their native country. When the dream of harvesting gold turned elusive in California, they sought employment doing hard labor in the railroad construction. As this line of work eventually dried up as well, a few daring Chinese immigrants decided to explore Colorado in the 1860s. Attracted by the Colorado Gold Rush, they established Denver s Chinatown. As William Wei writes: The neighborhood was established around 1870 on Wazee Street between fifteenth and seventeenth Street. This area of town became known by the white population as Hop Alley, it also became infamous because of the establishment of opium dens, where there was alleged gambling and prostitution. The claim that these vices were rampant in Chinatown were grossly exaggerated and it was mostly white patrons who visited the opium dens. The origin of these claims was due to a campaign aimed at ... These so called politicians looked to strengthen their following by capitalizing on the dislike of whites against Chinese. On October 31 1880, a riot broke out after an altercation between several white men and two Chinese individuals. Rioters marched through Chinatown destroying property and killing a Chinese man named Look Young. • 48. Coup-Proofing Analysis Lecture 20: When do authoritarian militaries side with protesters? (Nov 15) In Coup proofing, Military Defection, and the Arab Spring, Michael Makara examines how different coup proofing strategies help prevent military defection (334). Looking specifically at Egypt, Syria, and Yemen during the Arab Spring, he claims that whereas parallel security institutions and bribes ( material incentives ) can promote discord that renders the military prone to defection in times of mass anti government protest, ethnic stacking increases the likelihood of maintaining military loyalty. Ethnic stacking, he argues, takes advantage of communal ties, and the Syrian regime is a prime example of a government that employed this tactic (335). Egypt, conversely, ... When the Egyptian Revolution transpired in 2011, Medvedev called Mubarak to communicate his hope that tensions would be resolved peacefully and, more saliently, stressed the urgency of ensuring security for the Russian Embassy in Cairo and Russians living in Egypt (Reuters). Only after Morsi s ousting did relations, particularly military and economic cooperation, between Egypt and Russia strengthen (Nashashibi); in fact, Putin and el Sisi had met prior to Morsi s ousting (Al Jazeera). With Yemen, Russia has been calling for a military ceasefire, but is not nearly as invested in the crisis as Saudi Arabia or the United States is (Lauria). Russia s major intervention has been in Syria, where it openly stations military assets, built a permanent airbase, and sends attack helicopters against rebel forces. Russia s exceptionally active backing of Assad s regime has clear potential impact on the likelihood of military defection. The economic and military resources at Russia s disposal and that it supplies to the Syrian government consolidate the Assad administration, allowing it to withstand uprisings in ways that Mubarak and Saleh were unable to. This understanding provides little incentive for military officials to defect, since they recognize that coup attempts will likely be quashed by the combined power of Russian and loyalist Syrian forces. Russia s support makes overcoming opposition and winning the war seem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Shaping A Christian Worldview Essay One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in all areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option, rather it is our duty to transform our modern culture. To do this we must be closely positioned with Scripture. Accomplishing this keeps the Christian grounded and does not give secular culture undue stature. Jesustaught that the salt of believers transformed by the gospel would alter the world. This idea means that contemporary Christians must be discerners of truth in our time. Since, the process of transforming culture requires that we know what needs to be changed and what does not. Godhas entrusted us with duty to help transform under the comprehension of Biblical claims.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God s mandate included instructions relating to the stewardship of His creation. The Bible says, God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground (Gen. 1:28). Man, being created in God s image, is to subdue and to form a culture. The textbook rightly points out the secularism and pluralism dominates many aspects of this worldly culture. This has been reflected in many different ways. Much of America has lost belief in a divine creator, which has moved us down a path of no foundation for order. Second, modern thought has instilled a sense of individual achievement and a loss of a moral conscience where our moral norms are absent of religion. Finally, as we have progressed in modern society, these effects have lead to a fragile secular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Comparison Of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) has prevalence rating of about 2 to 4% in men and about 0.5 to 1% in women (Black, 2015). Conversely, it is hypothesized that about 1% of individuals have psychopathy (Ogloff, 2006). Within this paper, the differences and similarities of these two terms will be discussed. Firstly, ASPD and psychopathy will be defined and the history and practical use will be discussed. In addition, there will be an examination of the criminal aspects of psychopathy and ASPD. Furthermore, a scrutiny over how assessing the risks of reoffending for both conditions will take place. Lastly, the treatment differences and similarities will be revealed. The definition of psychopathy involves deficits in areas of functioning, such as, selective attention, anxiety and fear processing, moral reasoning, and criminal violations of society s rules (Vien Beech, 2006). Furthermore, there are a number of personality qualities linked with psychopathy, which include, interpersonal and affective traits such as, lack of empathy, shallow affect, callousness, shallow emotions, grandiosity, superficiality, manipulation, and charisma(De Brito, Viding, Kumari, Blackwood, Hodgins, 2013; Murrie, Boccaccini, Caperton, Ruffino, 2012). • 51. Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Questions On Consumer s Behavior There are four basic assumptions that are made by economists taking into consideration a consumer s behavior. When economists pursue their research they take into account the consumer s behavior having clear preferences, a budget constraint, the determination of price, and rational behavior. Having these assumptions allows economists to know what the consumer is thinking while considering a good or service. Since every persons wants/needs are different, we can assume that different households have different preferences towards goods and services. Having clear preferences is one assumption made by economists that consumers show in their behavior. This involves knowing as a consumer, the certain goods and services that are available in the market. However, the buyer must also have some knowledge of the amount of marginal utility they will receive from products they may be potentially purchasing. When a consumer has clear preferences they typically react in different ways: complete, monotonic, and transitivity. Complete meaning, they rank their goods on their preferences. Monotonic is describing the consumer as having the attitude more is better . Transitivity prefers goods in different ways meaning: if you prefer Bud Light to Coors Light, but Coors Light to Budweiser than you prefer Bud Light to Budweiser. The second assumption determined by economists focuses on the budget constraint. The consumer has a various amount of income, which then gives them a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
