A Comparison and Contrast of Earthquake in Haiti and Chile...
Introduction There are about 15 tectonic or lithospheric plates on the earth s surface, which have
different size and move relative to one another over the earth s surface. As a result, the crust
around the boundaries of the plates bends or deforms, accumulating strong energy during these
processes (Briggs, 2006). When the strain becomes too great to bear by the crust in the future, the
crust will snap or slip causing earthquakes. As a type of geophysical hazard, earthquakes are
inevitable for mankind living on the Earth, which destroy tremendous buildings, and take human
life away. However, influences of earthquakes can be reduced if people take appropriate actions.
This report provide an overview of two earthquakes that happened in... Show more content on

Earthquakes cause this fault to slip an average of 8 millimeters a year, with the remaining 12
millimeters a year of the Caribbean Plate s eastward motion being absorbed by a parallel fault
system in northern Hispaniola (Bilham, 2010).
Precursor Pursuits
Earthquakes are inherently unpredictable. Even though many reports are published to illustrate the
relationships between earthquakes and other things, such as foreshocks, surface bulges, animal
behaviors. Reports about a variety of precursor signals are very hard to verify, because every
earthquake is unique. The following part will introduce some funds from scientist before these two
earthquakes.
Haiti
Sarkar, Choudhary, Sonakia, Vishwakarma, and Gwal (2012) indicates that electron density and
temperature variation in the ionosphere might be precursors of earthquakes; they have some
interesting founds about these two things during the Haitian earthquake. There are several sensors
onboard DEMETER (Detection of Electromagnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquake
Regions) to survey the ionosphere. The electron density and temperature variation are studied using
the Langmuir Probe Instrument (ISL) (Sarkar et al., 2009, p.634). Based on the data from
DEMETER and ISL, Sarkar et al. (2012) conclude that the electron density of plasma in ionosphere
started increasing 5 days before the earthquake, and

New Place Research Paper
New Place
Going to a new place was my great experience for learning coping skills, for developing self
discipline, and making friends. When I was about nine years old, I was a troubled boy. As a
fourth grader, I went to an elementary school in my small village. However, I grew up without
supervision because my father, as a soldier, was often deployed far away from home. After school
times, I hung around with other undisciplined boys in our neighborhood, and was influenced by
neighbor boys misbehaviors. I ran into mischief. Fortunately, my mother believed in Catholic
schools. She saved my life by sending me to a providing Catholic Church school, very far from
home, in Thuduc city, Vietnam for my education.
Notre Dame was a gorgeous school where I probably started to develop my coping skills in my
childhood. As I am trying to visualize my experience living in a room and board Notre Dame

Everyday, I practiced the rules of self discipline to take charge of my learning. For example,
while doing my math problem sets, I wouldn t let myself check the math answers until I
completed all my math exercises. Eventually, these practices became an ingrained habit. As a
reward of my self discipline, my math skills improved greatly, and I earned good grades. In
addition, Striving for Excellence guided me to overcome learning obstacles at Notre Dame School
with a great learning environment, separated from the world outside. During school years, my
friends and I challenged ourselves and competed amongst each other in order to excel. On class
projects that required teamwork, we cooperated and needed each other. When playing sports, we
trained and pushed ourselves hard, and we tried to keep sportsmanship. Finally, renovating my
behaviors with a strict discipline, Notre Dame changed my life totally, as I have grown up both

The Flying Machine By Ray Bradbury
My essay is going to be about Ray Bradbury and the different messages in his stories. Some of the
stories had similar messages but some are different. The Flying Machine wanted to shows us
about different technologies that can be used for good and evil. The Dragon shows that
machines are just as powerful as dragons of old. The Fog Horn shows the past still exists in a
parallel universe and it sometimes crosses boundaries and it also appears in the present. I think
the message in The Flying Machine is that there are evil people in our world and they can take
technology for good and turn it to technology for evil. People don t realize how evil they can be
sometimes. The Dragon shows that sometimes machines can be mythical

How Does Burton Raffel Use Biblical Allusions In Beowulf
What A Paradox!
In the translation of the poem Beowulf by Burton Raffel, the oppositional ideals especially
regarding heroism in Christianity and the Anglo Saxon culture creates a powerful distance between
the two, increasing the prevention of Beowulf s Christian audience from relating to Beowulf
himself. Instances of Christian references in the translation are repetitively contradicted by the
actions and motivations of Beowulf s characters. The heroic values of the Anglo Saxon culture are
so much more conceited than those of Christianity. The Beowulf translator drives apart the two
cultures by presenting Anglo Saxon and Christian ideals that are paradoxical. The characters in both
Beowulf and The Bible undergo similar moral tests and prove to hold contradictory morals,
influences, and motivations through their words and actions. This opposition between the ideals of
the two cultures weaken their relationship as well as the sense of familiarity to some of the
Christian audience.
The differentiation of the values and actions of characters from both Beowulf and The Bible
throughout the translation shown in the choices that the characters make demonstrate
incomparable ethics. The Bible is filled, on most pages, of lessons revolving around selflessness
and an emphasis on detachment from material goods, aspects that are found in almost every
Christian hero. In the writings of The Bible, this value is strongly emphasized in writings that
preach lessons such as:

Was The Revolution Really Revolutionary? An Analysis By Dominic Pizzini
Was the Revolution really revolutionary? For these purposes, revolutionary is defined as Involving
or Causing a Complete or dramatic change (Oxford English Dictionary), and the American
Revolution as The war of 1775 83 in which the American colonists won independence from British
rule (Oxford English Dictionary). In short, the American Revolution was most definitely
revolutionary. The changes that took place affected the political, social, economical, and slavery
hierarchy. First, depicted in the Print La Destruction de la Statue royale a Nouvelle Yorck by
Andre Bassett, shows the Colonists working to dethrone the royal statue of King George the III in

This is an example of the change of the social structure of america. The gentry class and the
working class were like opposites, water and oil, so to speak. Any person or persons who make the
two mix has just created a revolutionary effect. Second, In The Unanimous Declaration of The
Thirteen United States of America, The Authors say that every man is endowed by his creator
with certain Unalienable Rights, such as Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness (Excerpt
from The Unanimous Declaration of The Thirteen United States of America). Before the war,
every man had the right to being searched for no clear reason, paying crazy taxes, and being
controlled by the Puppeteer, so to speak, King George III. But, after this war, all men had the
rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which seems like a very revolutionary change
from the right to being searched for no clear reason. This changes the social, political and
economical aspects of american life. Citizens no longer were required to pay outrageous taxes on
everything from tea to paper. Also, the American people no longer had to be subject to housing two
to four British soldiers with the appetite of a brown bear who would eat them into poverty.

The Imperfect Process Of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication
The Imperfect Process of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication It s a statistic that has circled
around the nation for years, one that imprints fear into the minds of young adults and rage into
those that demand justice: 1 in 5 female college students will experience sexual assault in the
duration of their college career (Clark), with only 20% of those rapes being reported to the police
(Hefling). As a topic that is so highlighted in American society, there is a strict demand for an
organized, thorough investigation that will result in justice served. Controversy regarding whether
the colleges themselves or the criminal justice system should adjudicate the punishment for these
vile crimes has arisen; some believe that as an actual crime, these assaults should be taken in a
legal stance in order to serve justice at its fullest extent. Others believe that determining punishment
through the court system is too nerve wracking for the victims and that by allowing colleges to do
so is the only way they can avoid feeling skepticism by the police, juries, or courts (Know Your IX).
However, when juxtaposing the capabilities of the colleges and the court system when it comes to
the adjudication process, it is evident that the courts are more competent in determining
punishments for campus sexual assaults. It has been argued that colleges are more equipped for
attending to the emotional well being of campus sexual assaultvictims. Title IX, a federal gender
equity law passed in 1972

First Electronics Project
For the first Electronics Project, my team worked together to build a circuit and used a
Multimeter to measure multiple elements of the circuit. There were three tasks, one assigned to
each member of the group. There was a task assigned to each group member: Circuit builder,
measurer, and the data collector/calculator. Because of this group collaboration, we were able to
work quickly and efficiently to get the project done on time. This project was definitely a learning
experience for all of us because this was the first time we had been expected to build a circuit. We
worked together and followed the instructions step by step. The measurements we were expected to
take included resistance, voltage, and current which is what the data collector used to calculate
theoretical values for the upcoming measurements.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We related the three measurements through Ohms Law which recognizes the equation to calculate
for voltage, resistance, or current. For me, the most useful aspect of the project was learning how to
build a circuit and measure values of resistance, current, and voltage with a Multimeter. At first, I
did not know what the measurements meant, but after my teammates helped me understand how
the measurements are correlated to the theoretical calculations and the circuit as a whole, I better
understood how the circuit worked as well as what the measurements signified. Because of this
project, I have significantly developed my understanding of circuit analysis and circuit building.
This knowledge is essential to me as a learner because I believe that understanding correlations
between design and analysis is the way to make us more successful engineers in our

goals for myself as well. I plan to learn a new language and learn to play an instrument, it my
research I have found that bilingual people and those who play instrument not only live longer but
also have an increased opportunity to benefit their communities.
The most significant obstacle to my academic success has been to free myself from societal
illusions. The environment in which a person is born molds their perceptions of society, and
this is not easily changed. I am an African American male and I was born in Philadelphia and
raised by a single father in Bartram Village, a low income housing project, which is notorious for
being a haven for drug and gang activity. I was fortunate to have a father who taught me that
what I received from life would be based upon the choices I made. That piece of advice has guided
me and given me vision for what I wanted out of life. It was this clarity of vision that led to my
decision to serve in the United States Marine Corps. Despite, it being a time of war I knew that I
could expand my horizons by exposing myself to a new culture. I finished at the top of my military

How To Write A Research Paper In Apa Format
APA Citation Format is a set of formal rules written by the American Psychological Association for
documenting sources when writing research papers for any of the social science disciplines.
The most recent set of guidelines can be found in the sixth edition of the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association released in July 2009. The purpose of the manual is to
provide a set of formal conventions that ensure clarity of communication, aid reader comprehension,
avoid plagiarism and build accurate reference citations.
The Basics
When writing a research paper, APA stylerequires that citations are located both in the text of the
body, as well as in a formal reference list section of the document. This article provides some
general guidelines on how in text citations should be formatted. For a more in depth explanation,

When using APA format follow the author date method of in text citation
. This means that the
author s last name and the year of publication for the source document should appear in the text
like (Richards, 2001). A more complete citation should appear in the reference list at the end of the
paper.

Essay on Status Of Transition From Socialism
Vietnam is a country whose economy is evolving. Its rapidly changing economy is facing
significant alterations in the process of transition. Vietnam is moving away from its current
economy, which is a non market socialist one, towards a market economy with a socialist
orientation. Vietnam is one of the poorest countries in the world with a Gross Domestic Product
of only $300. High levels of population along with the proper training will allow Vietnam to
effectively use its number one resource, people. Australia plays a key rolein assisting Vietnam s
economic growth and development through their aid programs.

They are now highly self sufficient. They are self run, determine what their production inputs and
outputs are, and are responsible for the financing and accounting of their firm. Though they seem to
be individual entities, the government still has a strong hold on them because the governments has
complete ownership of the firm, even though there are shareholders.
With the institution of Doi Moi the economy of Vietnam has experienced a very strong growth.
The past decade the Gross Domestic Product averaged 7.5%. Throughout the most recent years
the growth has not been as severe but still positive. It was gaining strength as 2000 began but has
been slowing down. There is still a positive growth but not as significant as in the mid 90s. See
following chart for the Real GDP Growth in %.
Towards the end of the 90s many factors accounted for this slow down. Economics reforms were
slowing as well. State owned enterprises and banks were becoming inefficient as well. This,
along with a decrease in demand and consumption, a decrease in foreign and local investing, as
well as a decrease in outputs all contributed to the slow down in economic growth. So, as this
slow down became evident, changes needed were made in order to increase the GDP. In the year
2000, certain things happened which did in fact raise the growth in real GDP. The world economy
was growing and manufacturing and commodity prices were improving as well.

The Importance Of Education For A Company s Chief...
Although schooling is extremely important it is not the only thing people need in order to
become a company s chief executive. There are many skills that are helpful to have in this
particular career. A person must be organized because of all the planning they will have to be
doing, have patience due to the stressful obstacles that will surely be in the way, which ties in
directly with problem solving. Also, they would be dealing with a lot of people so speaking skills
and communication is something that they can definitely not struggle with. The abilities a chief
executive must obtain are written expression, speech clarity and recognition, written composition
and deductive reasoning, and oral comprehension (O Net). All of which will help move a person
move ahead of competitive peers.
When the group discussed relocating to other states Florida and New York were our top choices.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics say that 13,970 people are currently are employed as chief executives
in Florida. For entry positions the average pay is $202,300 a year. This is very good pay however,
the growth level in the next five to ten years is barely 2.4% (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Which
is not very promising for a person with this career goal in mind. In New York, they currently
employ 17,060 people as this type of executive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also says they
have a better growth rate at 3.8%, but still not very promising for those going into this career. The

We need to make sure we are getting collateral material into the hands of the

patients are taken care of and that the doctors are being informed of any changes with the patient.
I want to get a phone call immediately of any changes, not reading about it in a daily progress
note. As for payers, this is a tricky relationship to build. Many health organizations try to build
relationship with their area representative with the insurance carriers they participate with. I
know, when I was doing credentialing for a health organization I built a relationship with the
area representative to help me out with any credentialing issues and contract issues. By building
this relationship, when issues did arise I was able to speak with the representative. I was also
able to put the patients mind at ease by letting them know I was speaking to a direct
representative with their insurance company and not just a customer service representative. Also
by building this relationship, I am better able to address any questions or concerns regarding
specific plans without having to direct them to the 800 number on the back of their card.

As discussed in lesson 5, the concept of DSCA is a complex provision that authorizes DOD
assistance based on DOD Directive 3025.18 in the event federal, state, and local resources are
exhausted. In order to improve DSCA and the domestic relationships between federal, state, and
local partnerships, the DOD introduced initiatives to clarify the framework for providing military
support. This includes the creation of the Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer (EPLO) to
facilitate the allocation of DOD resources in support of civil authorities upon a declared disaster
/emergency. Moreover, ambiguity found within the IRA provision undermines the ability for
commanders to provide assistance in lieu of DSCA approval methods. Thus, Hurricane Katrina
sparked the DOD s review of the IRA provision, in order to close the federal response gap for
providing immediate disaster support by identifying current legislative barriers. For instance,
military leadership did not fully comprehend the authority obtained under the IRA provision, which
delayed military aid and assistance during Hurricane Katrina (Leshinsky, 2006). For example, the
military responded under the provision of the National Response Plan (NRP), which required the
formal DSCA requests from FEMA. This delayed the response of the surrounding military units and
is one of the aforementioned barriers that spawned from the bureaucratic nature of requesting

Christian Rap And The Music
As I sat in my chair of the fancy hall (which name I cannot remember for the life of me) last spring

But if lost people hear the comments of the homeschoolers that I heard we will just be seen as stuck
up and higher than the lost person. With that our ministry and witness will began to crumble. Christ
met people where they were, so why should the Christians of today s culture do the same for the
lost souls?
As someone who did not grow up in church and did not become a Christian until a few years ago
was learning that secular music, while not honoring Christ at all can be used as a ministry.
Knowing the love of Christ helped me to hear a deeper meaning in rap songs when I listened to
them. Through that I began to see that in every rap song there was some type of brokenness to
the artist as they rapped about going through multiple girls but not finding the right one, having all
this money but never enough stuff, and looking for conformation from all the wrong people.
People, especially Christians want to look down on the rap community because the lifestyle they
live in but they cannot see that these very same people that are idolized by the world are just as
broken as we are/were. Without an understanding of this music how can we show lost people that
they can listen to the style that they are so found of while worshipping the God that made them?
My youth minister helped me change the way I worship by not judging the rap I was listening to,
but instead pointed me into a further direction of worship with God. I was getting set to drive us to

While it is not clear what the future of GLONASS will be, currently, it appears that there is
resurgence in the availability of GLONASS signals and receivers that can process these signals.
Despite the popularity of GPS, many users are interested in alternative systems. This is
motivated, in part, by the fact that GPS is a system operated and controlled by the U.S.
Department of Defense. As such, some users may want to retain a navigation capability that is
not solely GPS based. Another, more technical, motivation for this is due to the fact that GPS (or
any other GNSS) is a single system, and it is conceivable that a single failure can result in a
denial of service to a large number of users. Multiple GNSS may provide a level of redundancy
and, thus, an added degree of robustness to GNSS applications. The Galileo constellation is the
European Union s effort to provide both an alternative and a compliment to GPS. The first Galileo
satellite was launched in December 2005 and transmitted test signals shortly afterward. The
Galileo constellation is tentatively expected to become operational sometime after 2010.In

Major Anatomical Complications Associated Risk And...
As with any invasive surgical procedure, there is a certain amount of associated risk and
complication. Some important complications surrounding any operative procedures utilizing
general anesthesia include bleeding, respiratory decompensation, infection, and relapse. Outcome
and prognosis of Lefort procedures depend on many factors before, during, and after surgery. Major
anatomical complications reported with Lefort I osteotomy include nasal septum deviation,
ophthalmic and lacrimal duct injury, malocclusion or mal union of the maxilla, and injury to
stenson s duct. A reciprocating saw is generally utilized to perform the osteotomy with sufficient
cooling methods to reduce heat damage to the underlying bone. Overheating puts bony structures at
risk of osteonecrosis. Separation of the nasal septum is crucial and care should be taken to avoid the
nasotracheal tube on the side of nasal intubation. Sectioning the tube would compromise the patient
s airway and cause significant risk to the procedure. Separation of the pterygoid plate from the
maxillary tuberosity is another technique sensitive step during final completion of the osteotomy in
the region of the infratemporal fossa (Patel).

In the Shenandoah Valley near the border of Virginia, Joel Salatin and his son Daniel,
accompanied by two farm hands, run one of the most productive and influential alternative
farms in America (Pollan 126). Polyface farm is rather unique in its business tactics as well as
agricultural practices. The only way to eat products from Polyface farm is to live next to it. . .or

As a part of the American Marketing Service (AMS), the NOP was founded in 1939 and strives
to develop national standards for organically produced agricultural products ( National ). Their
mission is to ensure goods with an organic seal are controlled and distributed as uniformly as
possible, and they take every complaint with a heavy hand to keep irregularities to a minimum. In
1990, the USDA was instructed to establish uniform national standards for organic food and
farming, fixing the definition of a word that had always meant different things to different people
(Pollan 154). Since then the term organic has been manipulated and distorted by large
companies in order to push their products to as big a market as possible, leaving consumers
dazed and confused about the actual standards of the foods they were purchasing. Often times, the
true meaning of the extravagant or misleading words on the packaging is hard to translate for the
average consumer organic being no different. The seal that dawns certified organic products

very forthcoming about the actual meaning of the word organic. Any retailer can slap an organic

design conducted in nursing home facilities.
Alzheimer s disease is an insidious illness which leads to cognitive and functional impairment,
and is becoming more commonplace than ever before. There is no known cure, treatment, or
prevention for this disease; in case of point, researchers have yet to discover a way to slow the
progression of the illness. As the treatment of the physical manifestation of this disease is difficult
to pinpoint, many researchers have dedicated their resources to finding ways to improve the
quality of life of those who are diagnosed. Many patients with Alzheimer s experience depression,
anxiety, aggression, and social isolation as a result of their disease; these emotional responses can
be treated. Social, music, and exposure therapy in a combined approach will significantly decrease
depression scores on the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and reduce agitation scores on the
Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI). Participants exposed to our therapy program will

The use of an elevator is a common thing. Most Americans use the elevator without incident, and
we all know how to behave in one. For example, it is a norm that when you get into an elevator,
if someone is standing in one corner, you go to the other corner. You do NOT stand right next to
them and crowd them when the rest of the elevator is empty. Another norm would be that you
face the doors you do NOT keep your back to the door and stare at the other people in the elevator.
So, think about why these norms are in place and what purpose they serve (some hints would be to
think about personal space, our tolerance for strangers, etc).

Homosexuality in William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
With every great story line comes a theme. William Shakespeare created an art of intertwining often
unrecognizable themes within his plays. In Shakespeare s play, The Merchant of Venice, one
hidden theme is the idea of homosexuality. This theme might not have even been noticed until
modern Shakespeare fans discovered them. According to Alan Bray s book, Homosexuality in
Renaissance England, the modern image of the homosexual cannot be applied to the early modern
period, when homosexual behavior was viewed in terms of the sexual act and not an individual s
broader identity. (Columbia University Press). This difference between homosexuality as a sexual

This is where the link of Antonio s homosexual feelings towards Bassanio can be seen. In the end,
Antonio is unable to pay Shylock back on his loan. Antonio, on the verge of having a pound of
flesh taken, directs a speech toward Bassanio regarding his love for him. A closer look at this
particular speech, which occurs in Act IV Scene I, can help the reader to better understand
Shakespeare s intricate wording that portrays homosexuality in Antonio.
The word love is used numerous times in this seventeen line speech given by Antonio.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word love , as a verb, was used by Shakespeare
in his plays meaning to entertain a strong affection for; spec. to have a passionate attachment to a
person of the opposite sex; to be in love (OED). During this speech, Antonio preaches to
Bassanio, Say how I lov d you, speak me fair in death (4.1.271). Taking this statement and placing
it against the definition provided, the reader can see that Antonio holds more than just a friendly
love towards Bassanio. Before he is about to die, Antonio professes his love to Bassanio. One
would think that Antonio would feel angry that he was unable to fulfill a contract that he didn t
benefit from. Instead, he chooses his last words as loving ones toward another man.
Another instance in which Antonio uses the word love is in noun form. According to the OED,
love , as a noun used by

The Hopi are a Native American tribe with a long history that mainly live in the southwestern
United States. One of the most important parts of their culture is Kachinas. One of the ways that
the Hopi recognize their Kachinas is through dances. These Kachina dances are an important part
of the Hopi culture and still have a large impact on it today. The Hopiceremonies known as
Kachina dances are an almost constant part of their lifestyle. In contrast to most western holidays
the ceremonies go on for most of the year, almost like one continuous holiday, and every person in

things they do funny, but the Clowns actions are seen as examples of what not to do. Clowns
are not all humor, however. They are a very important part of the dance ceremonies and are still
seen as sacred. The animal Kachinas all have different purposes, though many are able to control
the rain. The Road Runner protects the village from witchcraft and also can bring rain. The
White Wolf helps the people of the village get enough food for winter. The Ram s dance brings
more rams for the village to get food from, and he also can bring rain. The Deer s dance brings

The Apache Creation Story Analysis
The Apache Creation Story is a reliving of the creation that takes on a more personal, familial and
dialogue based approach to how the world and mankind came to be. The story depicts how the
natural environment was created, from the earth itself to the four cardinal points to the clouds, the
animals, and the trees. Because of the natureof the Apache s nomadic life, the legend remains
generalized in terms of its location. Typically the story is told in order to preserve their tribal
history as well as social and instructional purposes. These occasions range from the campfire to
rites of passage to simply a parent teaching their child of their historical identity. The legend of
creation is central to the spiritual practices and beliefs of the Apache, especially when it comes to
their relationship with the natural world. As explained in the first two phrases of the story, animals,
elements, the solar system, and natural phenomena are revered by the Apaches. By sharing this
story with younger tribe members, the Apache engage them in understanding their traditions. It also
teaches them of the morality they must have and pass on when it comes to nature, as Montejo
mentions (21). It tells of the role of all living beings on earthand the importance of them all working
harmoniously to keep the universebalanced.
The legend is split up into a series of small stanzas that describe the actual life conditions. Following
the two sentence prelude to the myth, the storyteller introduces

Essay on Media Portray of Environmental Issues
The way that media has portrayed environmental issues has changed radically in the past few
years. Environmental issues often aren`t considered newsworthy unless something large scale
occurs with a notable impact on everyday life. The BP oil spill in 2010 made front pages world
wide, there was a sudden push for the rescue of marine life and a general disgust for the condition
of the Gulf Coast. An outpouring of awareness came of this tragedy and mass mediadiligently
informed audiences of every detail as the following cleanup events unfolded. Most environmental
news is not front page material. The media gets the ultimate say in what is deemed as important.

Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a
story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source
must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled Testing Public Uncertainty of Science he
discusses how newspapers especially just don t have the manpower to go straight to the scientific
source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than
cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily
understood and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific
reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months
later they are back to the initial assumption.
Awareness does not necessarily lead to change. Just because an environmental issue is brought to
light doesn t mean its going to pull at everyone s` heart strings and convince them to act. News
affects everyone a little differently and some indicating factors include education level and interest
in local, national, and international news. (Schafer, 2010, pp. 11 65) A survey cited in an article
by Fredrick Saunders showed that in 2011, 70 percent of people who follow international news say
that global warming is a serious threat, compared to 35 percent of those surveyed who do not

Pharmaceutical industry is a science organisation that research and develop medicines to help
improve people s life. There are four departments in pharmaceutical. They are researching,
development, production and marketing. In this report we will be going to investigate only 2 of
these departments. They are research and manufacturing. This investigation will include the risk on
health and safety in both departments and how they are similar or different to each other. We will

Also we will be talking about how it affects the employer and the employees.

Dusts explosions can happen when stone or iron pieces get in to a disintegrator or grinding mill,
this could create a spark which ignite any flammable substance. This also requires large amount

Immigration Negative Essay
Immigration is a touchy subject for many people in the United States, and it seems like depending
on which side of the political spectrum one falls there will be some radically different answers
given as to whether it benefits or harms the American economy. This dilemma has been one faced
by new Americans almost as long as the United States has existed, with fierce anti immigrant
feelings extending back to the days of the Know Nothings and beyond. This paper will seek to set
the record right, and will show that immigrationis actually a good thing for the American economy,
providing evidence that is strong enough to convince readers from any side of the political aisle.
Immigrants, traditionally, have filled a key niche in the American economy by taking on roles
that other American citizens might not necessarily want to do, or that they will do but for a
significantly higher pay. It is important to remember that, during the founding days of this
country, and especially of this city, many of the jobs that were needed to actually get things done
were manned by immigrants. Many of these jobs were given to Irish and Italians, men and
women who had come fresh from Europe in search of a new life, and through their contributions
we were able to build and expand in ways never before expected. Great feats like the Empire State
Building, the Transcontinental Railway, and others, were all accomplished as a result of immigrant
labor.
These lower paying jobs are still crucial to

*Hypochondria may be treated with antidepressants or anti anxiety medications, and/or

possible.
*Cognitive Behavioral Therapy may be an effective approach beyond traditional counseling (http:/

therapy. (in sub steps explain a few of the accepted treatments for hypochondria)
3. Discuss the possibility of comorbid issues. People with hypochondria may also experience
anxiety disorders and/or depression. Consider getting your loved one screened for these conditions
as well.
* If your loved one is nervous, assure them that the screening just means filling out a form about
their symptoms. Remember fear is a big part of the disorder but listening to their concerns will often
help with this.

Apollo And Achilles
The Trojan war hero, Achilles, and the Greek god Apollo share an uncontrollable rage, which
revealed itself throughout The Iliad. An example of their wild anger is at the beginning of The
Iliad, when Agamemnon irrationally took two women to be slaves for himself and Achilles.
Chryses, the father of Agamemnon s servant, pleaded to the god Apollo for assistance in returning
his daughter home. Infuriated, Apollo sent plague carrying arrows upon Agamemnon s camp for
nine consecutive days. In a fiery argument with Agamemnon, Achilleswas seriously considering
killing Agamemnon, but Athena intervened, and the furious Achilles swore that Agamemnon
would become the core of the wrath of Zeus. Both Achilles and Apollo acted rashly and wickedly

Social And Economic Impacts Of The Industrial Revolution
Introduction In response to the drastic social and economic impacts of the industrial revolution in
the United States during the mid 19th century, labor union were created in order to facilitate fair
negotiations on the behalf of workers with their employers in regard to work related difficulties
such as pay, working conditions, along with other amenities. Article 23 of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, a declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on
10 December 1948 following the end of the Second World War identifies the ability to organize
trade unions as a fundamental human right. On a more federal level, the United States Congress
also began passing laws targeted at industries to better working conditions as... Show more content

Team owners gave the NBPA recognition in 1957; however, due to a lack of interest from the
players and a lack general organization, the NBPA was not taken seriously by anyone, and as a
result did not accomplish anything. This all began to change in the 1960 s and 70 s, as the
dynamic combination of growing fan interest and the emergence of network television
transformed sports leagues and individual teams into valuable business enterprises. Naturally,
the players wanted a greater share of the expanding wealth; to do so, they had to do it the same
ways blue collar industrial workers did: through collective bargaining with the help of labor
unions, or in this case, the National Basketball Players Association. Previously dysfunctional
and inconsequential, the NBPA turned to Harvard Law graduate Lawrence Larry Fleisher, an
attorney and sports agent. Hired on as a general counsel in 1962, Fleisher negotiated the first
collective bargaining agreement in all of professional sports in 1967, securing pensions,
minimum salaries, and disability pay for its members. Over the years, the NBPA grew in power
as the NBA grew in popularity. With new massive network television deals, apparel contracts,
advertisement air times, ticket sales, concessions, to name a few sources of the teams revenue,
how to divide the Association s basketball related income (BRI) has remained a central topic of
debate between players and owners. Ever since the creation of the Players

Teachers Never Accept Teaching Jobs
Michael Roth
Mrs. Sharon Biscardi
English I Honors 7th Period
23 October 2015
More Deserving More than half of the college graduates who are fully qualified to become
teachers never accept teaching jobs (Haberman). Many find this very telling, as it shows that
teaching is a career path that has become rather unwanted by graduates. This is understandable,
since teaching has become a profession notorious for low salaries and poor treatment. As a result,
teaching has become an underrated profession, and teaching is one of the lowest paying
professions in America. The wages of most teachers should be increased to reflect their true value
and performance. In today s America, teachers must sacrifice a significant portion of their potential
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In recent years, the increase in teachers wages has slowed dramatically, to the point that it has
essentially declined. According to the National Education Association...inflation increased 3.1
percent over the past year, while teacher salaries increased by only 2.3 percent (Study 9). As a
result, the value of the US dollar has decreased, meaning that it takes more money to purchase
products, while teachers salaries have not increased enough to compensate for this higher cost of
living. Additionally, in some states, the average base salaryof teachers simply increased less than
it did in previous years (The Increase). Also, teaching is one of the lowest paying professions in
America, as shown by recent studies. The AFT, which uses data collected by the National
Association of Colleges and Employers, maintains that teachers, at an average yearly salary of
$44,367, lag behind accountants at $54,981, engineers at $96,238 and computer program analysts
at $74,534. If additional summer pay were added to the computations, teachers would still earn just
$49,438 (Silverman 16). This is unacceptable, and these trends showcase that America is moving in
the wrong direction regarding this issue. Finally, teachers salaries are simply not reflective of their
perceived value. Teachers are people

Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself Essay
Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself
Truth, beauty, and goodness are not eternal, objective realities which man discovers, but are the
creative products of the human mind as it exercises its will to power . In other words, man is a
creator of values. (Nietzsche) So what is good and evil, but that defined by man and therefore a
purely subjective concept. Could we, society, have one without the other? By determining what is
good, we in turn determine what is evil. How do we know what they are; that is if they really
exist? One must first try to define what good and evil are before attempting to question their
existence.
What is good? Is it the selfless act of a volunteer at a homeless shelter or an honest and truthful ...

His actions were good, not just because they were intended to be good for the whole society, but
because society viewed them as being for the good.
Good must also be addressed in terms not related to human actions. In the eyes of our society, a
flower would be undoubtedly considered good, or a symbol of good. However, there is nothing
in a flower that makes it good, other than its ability to be pleasing to society. The flower does not
have the ability to make an overt decision to cause evil; therefore we view it as being good. Of
course, Websters dictionary doesn t quite cover this concept of good and tends to cause some
confusion when addressing it.
So, what is evil? Is it Hitler s near annihilation of the Jewish people during World War II or the
senseless massacre at Ti enneman Square on mainland China? Again we turn to Webster s
dictionary, which states evil as causing distress or harm, a source of sorrow, and the fact of
suffering, misfortune, and wrongdoing. (Merriam Webster) Evil would be any intention to cause an
undesirable effect upon one s self or on another person. So by saying that the intentions of a person
are not to cause good we automatically assume that they are out to cause evil.
For instance, religious and political leaders of Dr. Martin Luther King s time resisted all efforts on
his part toward equality because he would be attempting to change an accepted way of life. King

Mobile Ipv4 And Ipv6 Problems And Implementation
Mobile IPv4 and IPv6 Problems and Implementation Mobile IPv4 and IPv6 are the future of
mobile communications wirelessly and can help greatly in the infrastructure and combination
of mobile systems and internet. This usage of IP addresses in mobile would increase the need
for implementation of IPv6 as the new standard to replace IPv4 and increase the number of
available addresses. However IP based mobile isn t perfect and has its own host of problems and
those will be discussed as well later as well as possible fixes in short and long term to these
problems. The main need to implement mobile IP is the fact that it can support more users and
keep those users closer to the internet, meaning that the internet is integrated into the system....

This can be a problem as more devices connect to and use a network the more data they use and
can cause a network to become congested. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small
wireless receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more
confined networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low
capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network
at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network
stability. At layer 2 comes the need to differentiate between devices on the network and needs a
standard to work in place usually used at layer 2 in IP based communications over the internet is
Ethernet II and uses MAC addresses differentiating between devices by using a hexadecimal
format. This is done by burning a unique ID into a network card by a manufacturer, however
rather than the normal Wi Fi a better option for long range communications is WiMAX. The
differences in Wi Fi and WiMAX is that WiMAX has an effective distance of up to 90km while Wi
Fi only has a range of up to 100m and data rates on WiMAX is up to 40mbps compared to Wi Fi
with up to 54mbps. Next layer 3 the Network layer is where the Internet Protocol (IP) will take
place and be defined. There are two options to use here IPv4 or IPv6.

Other security elements are in reference to data recovery, database administration, handling a
breach in security and administrative security policies such as access procedure, employee transfer
and excessive user access. As I assume the role of the chief security officer, database designer,
database administrator, and chief applications designer this project is very important to the armed
services and the Virgin Islands National Guard as we strive to provide global security. II.
Architecture and Operating System Considerations
SIDPERS Architecture
The database runs on the Oracle 11g platform and the CIO has task me to prepare a responsive
database security plan. If personnel data is compromise identity theft can ensue and millions of
dollars will be lost in repairing the wronged individual and rebuilding soldiers confidence in
Department of Defense commitment to protecting their private information. It is not just the soldier
information stored here but every dependent information and legal responsibility of single soldiers.
The Standard Installation Division Personnel System Version 3 (SIDPERS 3) is a Standard Army

  • 2. A Comparison and Contrast of Earthquake in Haiti and Chile... Introduction There are about 15 tectonic or lithospheric plates on the earth s surface, which have different size and move relative to one another over the earth s surface. As a result, the crust around the boundaries of the plates bends or deforms, accumulating strong energy during these processes (Briggs, 2006). When the strain becomes too great to bear by the crust in the future, the crust will snap or slip causing earthquakes. As a type of geophysical hazard, earthquakes are inevitable for mankind living on the Earth, which destroy tremendous buildings, and take human life away. There are several sensors onboard DEMETER (Detection of Electromagnetic Emissions Transmitted from Earthquake Regions) to survey the ionosphere. The electron density and temperature variation are studied using the Langmuir Probe Instrument (ISL) (Sarkar et al., 2009, p.634). Based on the data from DEMETER and ISL, Sarkar et al. When I was about nine years old, I was a troubled boy. As a fourth grader, I went to an elementary school in my small village. However, I grew up without supervision because my father, as a soldier, was often deployed far away from home. After school times, I hung around with other undisciplined boys in our neighborhood, and was influenced by neighbor boys misbehaviors. I ran into mischief. Fortunately, my mother believed in Catholic schools. She saved my life by sending me to a providing Catholic Church school, very far from home, in Thuduc city, Vietnam for my education. The Fog Horn shows the past still exists in a parallel universe and it sometimes crosses boundaries and it also appears in the present. I think the message in The Flying Machine is that there are evil people in our world and they can take technology for good and turn it to technology for evil. • 5. How Does Burton Raffel Use Biblical Allusions In Beowulf What A Paradox! In the translation of the poem Beowulf by Burton Raffel, the oppositional ideals especially regarding heroism in Christianity and the Anglo Saxon culture creates a powerful distance between the two, increasing the prevention of Beowulf s Christian audience from relating to Beowulf himself. Instances of Christian references in the translation are repetitively contradicted by the actions and motivations of Beowulf s characters. The heroic values of the Anglo Saxon culture are so much more conceited than those of Christianity. The Beowulf translator drives apart the two cultures by presenting Anglo Saxon and Christian ideals that are paradoxical. The characters in both Beowulf and The Bible undergo similar moral tests and prove to hold contradictory morals, influences, and motivations through their words and actions. This opposition between the ideals of the two cultures weaken their relationship as well as the sense of familiarity to some of the Christian audience. The differentiation of the values and actions of characters from both Beowulf and The Bible throughout the translation shown in the choices that the characters make demonstrate incomparable ethics. The Bible is filled, on most pages, of lessons revolving around selflessness and an emphasis on detachment from material goods, aspects that are found in almost every Christian hero. In the writings of The Bible, this value is strongly emphasized in writings that preach lessons such as: Do not store up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For these purposes, revolutionary is defined as Involving or Causing a Complete or dramatic change (Oxford English Dictionary), and the American Revolution as The war of 1775 83 in which the American colonists won independence from British rule (Oxford English Dictionary). In short, the American Revolution was most definitely revolutionary. The changes that took place affected the political, social, economical, and slavery hierarchy. The Imperfect Process Of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication The Imperfect Process of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication It s a statistic that has circled around the nation for years, one that imprints fear into the minds of young adults and rage into those that demand justice: 1 in 5 female college students will experience sexual assault in the duration of their college career (Clark), with only 20% of those rapes being reported to the police (Hefling). As a topic that is so highlighted in American society, there is a strict demand for an organized, thorough investigation that will result in justice served. Controversy regarding whether the colleges themselves or the criminal justice system should adjudicate the punishment for these vile crimes has arisen; some believe that as an actual crime, these assaults should be taken in a legal stance in order to serve justice at its fullest extent. Others believe that determining punishment through the court system is too nerve wracking for the victims and that by allowing colleges to do so is the only way they can avoid feeling skepticism by the police, juries, or courts (Know Your IX). However, when juxtaposing the capabilities of the colleges and the court system when it comes to the adjudication process, it is evident that the courts are more competent in determining punishments for campus sexual assaults. It has been argued that colleges are more equipped for attending to the emotional well being of campus sexual assaultvictims. Title IX, a federal gender equity law passed in 1972 ... In order to improve DSCA and the domestic relationships between federal, state, and local partnerships, the DOD introduced initiatives to clarify the framework for providing military support. This includes the creation of the Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer (EPLO) to facilitate the allocation of DOD resources in support of civil authorities upon a declared disaster /emergency. Moreover, ambiguity found within the IRA provision undermines the ability for commanders to provide assistance in lieu of DSCA approval methods. Thus, Hurricane Katrina sparked the DOD s review of the IRA provision, in order to close the federal response gap for providing immediate disaster support by identifying current legislative barriers. For instance, military leadership did not fully comprehend the authority obtained under the IRA provision, which delayed military aid and assistance during Hurricane Katrina (Leshinsky, 2006). This is motivated, in part, by the fact that GPS is a system operated and controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense. As such, some users may want to retain a navigation capability that is not solely GPS based. Another, more technical, motivation for this is due to the fact that GPS (or any other GNSS) is a single system, and it is conceivable that a single failure can result in a denial of service to a large number of users. Another norm would be that you face the doors you do NOT keep your back to the door and stare at the other people in the elevator. Antonio, on the verge of having a pound of flesh taken, directs a speech toward Bassanio regarding his love for him. A closer look at this particular speech, which occurs in Act IV Scene I, can help the reader to better understand Shakespeare s intricate wording that portrays homosexuality in Antonio. The word love is used numerous times in this seventeen line speech given by Antonio. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word love , as a verb, was used by Shakespeare in his plays meaning to entertain a strong affection for; spec. to have a passionate attachment to a person of the opposite sex; to be in love (OED). During this speech, Antonio preaches to Bassanio, Say how I lov d you, speak me fair in death (4.1.271). The Apache Creation Story Analysis The Apache Creation Story is a reliving of the creation that takes on a more personal, familial and dialogue based approach to how the world and mankind came to be. The story depicts how the natural environment was created, from the earth itself to the four cardinal points to the clouds, the animals, and the trees. Because of the natureof the Apache s nomadic life, the legend remains generalized in terms of its location. Typically the story is told in order to preserve their tribal history as well as social and instructional purposes. These occasions range from the campfire to rites of passage to simply a parent teaching their child of their historical identity. The legend of creation is central to the spiritual practices and beliefs of the Apache, especially when it comes to their relationship with the natural world. As explained in the first two phrases of the story, animals, elements, the solar system, and natural phenomena are revered by the Apaches. By sharing this story with younger tribe members, the Apache engage them in understanding their traditions. It also teaches them of the morality they must have and pass on when it comes to nature, as Montejo mentions (21). It tells of the role of all living beings on earthand the importance of them all working harmoniously to keep the universebalanced. When a story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source must be considered. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months later they are back to the initial assumption. This dilemma has been one faced by new Americans almost as long as the United States has existed, with fierce anti immigrant feelings extending back to the days of the Know Nothings and beyond. This paper will seek to set the record right, and will show that immigrationis actually a good thing for the American economy, providing evidence that is strong enough to convince readers from any side of the political aisle. Immigrants, traditionally, have filled a key niche in the American economy by taking on roles that other American citizens might not necessarily want to do, or that they will do but for a significantly higher pay. It is important to remember that, during the founding days of this country, and especially of this city, many of the jobs that were needed to actually get things done were manned by immigrants. Many of these jobs were given to Irish and Italians, men and women who had come fresh from Europe in search of a new life, and through their contributions we were able to build and expand in ways never before expected. And simply using long range low capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network stability. At layer 2 comes the need to differentiate between devices on the network and needs a standard to work in place usually used at layer 2 in IP based communications over the internet is Ethernet II and uses MAC addresses differentiating between devices by using a hexadecimal format. This is done by burning a unique ID into a network card by a manufacturer, however rather than the normal Wi Fi a better option for long range communications is WiMAX. The differences in Wi Fi and WiMAX is that WiMAX has an effective distance of up to 90km while Wi Fi only has a range of up to 100m and data rates on WiMAX is up to 40mbps compared to Wi Fi with up to 54mbps. Next layer 3 the Network layer is where the Internet Protocol (IP) will take place and be defined. There are two options to use here IPv4 or IPv6. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sidpers STANDARD INSTALLATION DIVISION PERSONNEL SYSTEM (SIDPERS) SECURITY PLAN Gladys Turnbull Submitted to: Professor Kevin Reynolds SEC 574 Database Security Keller Graduate School of Management Submitted: 22 August 2012 Abstract: SIDPERS Security Plan developed for the Virgin Islands National Guard is procedural protection of this highly sensitive database holding the personnel records of over 960 active service members and over 10,000 retirees skeleton military personnel records. It is with great err on caution that we recommend and enforce the highest level of tiered defense in depth security measure to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of this data; because we know its compromise and/or loss will reap ... Other security elements are in reference to data recovery, database administration, handling a breach in security and administrative security policies such as access procedure, employee transfer and excessive user access. As I assume the role of the chief security officer, database designer, database administrator, and chief applications designer this project is very important to the armed services and the Virgin Islands National Guard as we strive to provide global security. II. Architecture and Operating System Considerations SIDPERS Architecture The database runs on the Oracle 11g platform and the CIO has task me to prepare a responsive database security plan. If personnel data is compromise identity theft can ensue and millions of dollars will be lost in repairing the wronged individual and rebuilding soldiers confidence in Department of Defense commitment to protecting their private information. It is not just the soldier information stored here but every dependent information and legal responsibility of single soldiers. The Standard Installation Division Personnel System Version 3 (SIDPERS 3) is a Standard Army Management Information System developed in 1991 with more automated personnel actions than ever before. The system consists of a relational data base, application software written in Ada, and a hardware suite. The hardware architecture is a host based design with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
