2. The International Criminal Court Of The United States
The International Criminal Court try to not to have history repeat itself
The International Criminal Court also known as the (ICC) are a group of judges who
investigates and prosecutes individuals that are guilty of crimes such as genocide,
war crimes and crimes against humanity and only intervenes when a state cannot
intervene or is unwilling to intervene or is an international concern (Understanding
the International Criminal Court). Many inhumane corruptions were committed in the
past such as the Holocaust and many individual have gone unpunished for it. Due to
this the United Nation General Assembly was determined to have a court were
individuals who commit such cruel crimes will be held accountable and will be
punished for it. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though there are many countries that are apart of the ICC, a fair question is what
sparked the need for such a powerful court? Because even though the ICC is doing
their best not to repeat the mistake of have crimes go unpunished there are situation
such as the United States refusing to join the organization and has immunity from
being prosecuted that makes the court look unfair and re enforces the idea that that
the powerful are untouchable. Another case would be that the ICC has been heavily
criticized for being prone to prosecute cases only in Africa, which raises the
question why do they prosecute countries that are not wealthy and ignore the
corruption in wealthy countries. These small questions can make one consider if
there really is a need for an international criminal court. However what one fails to
understand is there is a need for an international court. In this paper I will be
discussing exactly what was the cause of such a powerful court, why the United State
has continuously refuse to join the ICC and had immunity before official leaving and
finally why does it seem like the ICC is prosecuting countries that are not wealthy
such as countries in Africa and ignore the corruption in wealthy countries.
The establishment of the International Criminal Court in 2002 is one of the most
known powerful organizations, having a member of one hundred and twenty three

3. The Age Of Technological Advancements
Scientist believed the human race began approximately 195,000 years ago, but what
they seem to forget is it was reborn in the 19th century and created the age of
technology. While some would argue that technology has led the competence of the
human race backwards towards the stone ages, technological advancements in history
by engineers have allowed the establishment of a world that is truly modern and
interconnected by power, communication and transportation. In the beginning,
humans would have to rely on themselves and the sun for power and light,
respectively. Additionally, humans were limited to the number and strength to
accomplish tasks such as hunting, building homes, and providing other necessities
for themselves and their families.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the start people had no electricity or light bulbs and if they did, they were rich, but
with technological advancements implemented by Thomas Edison, everyone has light
and the rich do burn candles to show their pristine status. Before communication
would depend on many factors, now everyone uses their phones to call and
communicate with people from all around the world and the internet. With the new
way of transportation, people have the ability to travel from one end of the world to
the other and even space at anytime they like, there are no boundaries and
manufacturing and transporting those goods has also become a lot easier. Humans
are no longer restricted to physical capabilities, engineers have created a world that
speaks multiple languages, communicates all around without hesitation and travels
wherever they like; many boundaries have been lifted. Engineers have created the
basis for an interconnected society and continue to innovate and decrease human
limitations, now they only have to find a way to sustain the world by further
advancing their technology with their innovative minds and that of the new
4. Quality Control Of Car Emission Efficiency
QUALITY CONTROL OF CAR EMISSION EFFICIENCY
1. Introduction
Energy efficiency of vehicles have become one of the most fundamental issue for
modern trade, business life and environment. Even though the zero emission systems
hast still progress, it is plausible to enlarge the fuel efficient vehicles with application
of quality assurance practices. The idea behind this is particularly true for the
companies which is related to transportation, where even small difference can save
considerable amount of money.
Moreover, in the fuel economy website, it is mentioned that the fuel economy
predicts the fuel economy tags and to calculate a producer s corporate average fuel
economy (CAFE) is received from car when the testing is done at EPA s National
Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor which is in Michigan, and by
whole car producers who sent their own data to EPA. Every year, EPA supplies car
efficiency data to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Department of
Transportation (DOT) and the Department of Energy (DOE) with this way they can
manage their car efficiency which is associated with programs. (http:/
/www.fueleconomy.gov). Many companies have many instructions in order to inform
the costumers about fuel efficiency. However, on the other hand, none of these
companies are certain on a particular car. That causes less motivation on drivers
because they encounter with something mindboggling. Therefore, we will use the
quality assurance and quality tools which

program was to adopt a common set of policies and procedures directed at providing
a uniform response to the assailants in domestic assault cases (Pence
6. Fitness Plus
Students should begin by analyzing the capacity of the facility; however, the
analysis is not as straightforward as it first may seem. There is an issue of how
capacity should be measured. Students should quickly recognize that an overall
measure of capacity for the facility isn t much help in determining if Fitness Plus is
capacityconstrained. If the service delivery process for each member were
homogeneous, such as a cafeteria or airline flight, then an overall measure of
capacity, such as the number of members serviced over a given period of time, would
be an appropriate measure of capacity. However, the service delivery process at
Fitness Plus is a menu driven process where each member chooses from a range of
services the club... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With these issues in mind, the students can develop capacity estimates similar to the
following:
1.Aerobics
*Assumption: Aerobics classes begin on the hour and last for 50 minutes.
*Capacity: 1 class per hour for 35 members
2.Cardiovascular
*Assumption: During peak demand times, each piece of equipment is limited to 30
minutes per member.
*Capacity: With 29 pieces of C V equipment, 58 members per hour peak capacity
3.Nautilus
*Assumptions: Each member takes 1 minute to complete each exercise. The
machines are set up so members flow through in a sequential manner.
*Capacity: Maximum capacity at a steady state; cycle time 1 minute. 60 members per
hour
Over the three hour peak demand period, the Nautilus area may only process 156
members because it will take 24 minutes for the first member to complete the entire
24 machine cycle.
These three areas of the club are the major areas of concern due to customer
complaints, and they are where students should concentrate their analysis. The tennis
and racquetball areas can service the following number of members per hour:
Tennis:12 members/hour for singles 24 members/hour for doubles
Racquetball:16 members/hour for singles 32 members/hour for doubles
There were no details given in the case to determine the capacity of the free weight
area. So, if we aggregate the individual capacities into an overall measure, the club
can accommodate a peak capacity of 181 to 209

Egyptian religion were mainly based upon worship towards Pharaoh and Gods.

With a higher sense of individuality, humans began to conceive the gods in a
personalized form. This stage in development is called mythical . In Egypt, this
process began during the late prehistoric period, when writing was being invented and
myths were being formulated (Mark).
The Mythical part of the egyptian religion was the way people personalized their
Gods. They started to do this in the prehistoric period, where people began to show
why things happened through myths. In the very end, the egyptian Gods were born.
Like all religions, that of ancient Egypt was complex. It evolved over the centuries
from one that emphasized local deities into a national religion with a smaller number
of principal deities. Some theologians think that Egypt was moving towards a
monotheistic faith in a single creator, symbolized by the sun god. There was no
single belief system, but the Egyptians shared a common understanding about the
creation of the world and the possibility of reverting to chaos if the destructive forces
of the universe were unleashed (Mark). Even though there were many Gods,
Egyptians all had something in common. They all had one understanding of how the
world worked. Their religion evolved over the years as their culture changed. In the
end, Egyptians had a small number of Gods that helped them understand
8. Analysis of The Canon s Yeoman s Tale Essay
Summary and Analysis of The Canon s Yeoman s Tale (The Canterbury Tales)
Prologue to the Canon s Yeoman s Tale:
When the story of Saint Cecilia was finished and the company continued on their
journey, they came across two men. One of them was clad all in black and had been
traveling quickly on their horses; the narrator believes that he must be a canon (an
alchemist). The Canon s Yeoman said that they wished to join the company on their
journey, for they had heard of their tales. The Host asked if the Canon could tell a
tale, and the Yeoman answers that the Canon knows tales of mirthand jollity, and is a
man whom anybody would be honored to know. The Host guesses that his master

Chaucer introduces two new characters, the Canon and his Yeoman. The Canon is
an imposing figure, a mysterious and intimidating character who differs greatly
from the Canterbury pilgrims, who are either jovial and boisterous or quiet and
respectable. The Canon is nearly silent, yet his reticence does not stem from
chivalric honor or religious principles. He is a man of menacing action afraid to be
definitely identified as part of his dubious profession. This automatically marks him
as different from the other travelers, who primarily exist as part of their particular
job and accept it, even when that line of work В as in the cases of the summoner and
the pardoner В is not respectable.
The Canon s Yeoman serves as the voice of his master, but that voice proves
inadequate. The Canon s Yeoman reveals too much about his master and then turns
on him, condemning the Canon for his fraudulent practices.
The Canon Yeoman s Tale:
The Canon s Yeoman admits that he has served the Canon for seven years and
knows a great deal about his craft. He warns that anybody who becomes involved
with a canon will suffer similar miseries: losing one s wealth and esteem. He tells
about the wicked craft of alchemy from which they try to gain wealth. He claims that
there is a canon of religion of how an alchemist can defraud a person. He then begins
his tale of a priest in London who was visited by a false canon who begged for a
loan. Two days
9. Sexual Harassment Essay
Sexual harassment is so ordinary in the workforce that frequently we fail to even
recognize harassing behavior as immoral. This is because so many of us women
and men alike have become desensitized to offensive behaviors. Sexual harassment
in any form is unacceptable behavior and should not be tolerated by anyone. It
undermines our ability to study, to work, and to feel like effective, empowered
people in the world.
The U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission describes sexual harassment as
a form of gender discrimination that is in violation of the Title VII of the 1964 Civil
Rights Act. Undesirable sexual advances, request for sexual favors, and further verbal
and physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment, ... Show more

In addition to, The Society for Human Resource Management has reported that 62%
of companies offer sexual harassment prevention training programs, and 97% have a
written sexual harassment policy (Sexual Harassment in the Workplace).
Over the last decade the number of grievance filed with EEOC has gradually
decreased. For example, in 1997 approximately 16,000 complaints of sexual
harassment were filed. Last year, the number of complaints dropped to 11,717
which 16.4% of charges were filed by men (Sexual Harassment Charges). The
common of complaints reported to the EEOC came from women; conversely the
quantity of complaints filed by men is ever increasing, along with increasing
numbers of men filing against female supervisors. In 2007, 16% of complaints filed
with the EEOC were filed by men (Sexual Harassment Charges).
Men are increasingly claiming they re victims of sexual harassment and sexual
harassment of men does occur. The first ever court case involving sexual
harassment of a man in the workplace was in 1995. The EEOC sued Domino Pizza
after a female supervisor of a male store manager sexually harassed him and then
fired him (Tahmincioglu, 2007). In 1998 a ruling by the Supreme Court involving a
Louisiana man, who claimed he was sexually harassed by his male manager while
working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, made it clear that men are protected
from such harassment at work under Title VII of the Civil Rights
10. Cold War In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel, The Lord of the Flies, the author William Golding makes a lot of
references to a specific historical circumstance. This specific historical circumstance
stated in the novel being World War II. The Cold War was a battle fought between the
United States, American Capitalism, and the Soviet Union, Communists. This battle
was fought due to the growing tension between the two and their differing opinions.
Much like how the story plays out the relationship between Ralph and Jack. The
slight comparison between the two wasn t the only thing that referenced the war.
There was also a reference to the Cold Warby Ralph who not only mentioned the fact
that his father was part of the war but also mentioned one of the key people fighting in
11. Nationalism And The National Mold Of The Majority
Faction
Introduction
When Americans think of nationalism, most conjecture visions of high flying flags,
soldiers returning from war, and a montage of red, white and blue. Some envision
fireworks on the Fourth of July, or a hometown parade on Memorial Day. To many,
the term nationalism, is just a synonym for patriotism, or the emotional allegiance
one feels to his or her country. But in fact, nationalism carries a wholly different
meaning, one that has earned a negative connotation especially over the past few
centuries. Nationalism, at its simplest is the patriotic sentiment for a nation, or
aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language,
generally inhabiting a particular country or territory. Nationalism therefore implies
the superiority of a homogenous group of people, whether it be by race, culture,
language, etc. Over the years, nationalism has been used to justify, in some cases, the
genocide of ethnic or religious groups that fail to fit the national mold of the majority
faction. This justification has procured nationalism its unsavory historical
connotation, which peaked in Europe during World War II and still remains healthy
today in Africa and the Middle East. Having remained largely dormant since World
War II, Westerners are now beginning to witness a resurgence of nationalism,
particularly in the United States and Great Britain. These countries have experienced
similar predicaments with an influx of immigration (or migration in Europe)

14. Taking a Look at Oxidative Stress
Oxidative stress is one of the most important stimuli that initiates CCl4 mediated
liver damage. Lipid peroxidation as result of oxidative stress is well known to be
involved in the liver injury (Lin et al., 2012). There are a number of studies that has
reported the alkynated halogen CCl4 to be widely used as a hepatotoxin to induce
livertoxicity in experimental animal models (Weber et al., 2003). Analysis of
histopathology revealed that intragastric administration of CCl4 causes damage to
the hepatic architecture, as CCl4 is metabolized in the cytochrome P450 mixed
oxygenase system found in the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells and extra hepatic
tissues (Fang et al., 2008).
CYP2E1 is a major cytochorme found to be involved in carbon chlorine bond
reductive cleavage and biotransformation of CCl4 to trichloromethyl radical (CCl3).
These cytochrome systems catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and
synthesis of cholesterol and other lipid metabolites both in endogenous substrates,
such as ethanol and acetone as well as exogenous substrates which includes carbon
tetrachloride (Tang et al., 2013). In the presence of oxygen, CCl3 generates the
highly reactive metabolites such as trichloromethyl peroxy (CCl3OO) free radicals
which covalently bind to the cellular macromolecules, lipids and polyunsaturated
fatty acids in the cellular membrane. Trichloromethyl peroxy (CCl3OO) free radicals
react with suitable substrates to complete its electron pair. CCl3OO is

16. How Did The Mahele Affect The Foreigners
The Mahele has countless of effects on the commoners and the foreigners. The
Mahele is the land division that was split into thirds during 1848. One third of the
land belonged to the king, one third of the land that was left, was for chiefs and the
konohiki, and the rest of the land was for the commoners or the maka ainana. One
of the effects of the Mahele was that commoners did not have enough firewood, la
i, and timber, which was a social and negative affect towards them. Another effect
of the Mahele is that some of the commoner s land is being taken away from
foreigners. Also, foreigners are breaking the law that states citizens have the first
choice of buying the land. Both of these effects are affecting the commoners
politically. The last effect that the Mahele did, is that foreigners are bidding the land
until it s too high for the Native Hawaiians to buy. This is an economical and
negative affect to the Native Hawaiians, but it s a positive effect to the foreigners.

18. The Impact Of The Westward Expansion Of America
The United States of America officially gained its independence on July 4th, 1776.
However, at the time, America only consisted of 13 colonies. The United States was
a very small nation and there was desire amongst the people for that to change. The
desire for expansion had been in existence since the time period of the Jamestown
settlers and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The United Stateswould then begin its
westward expansion from 1783 to 1810 with main expansions such as Old Northwest
and Southwest, the Louisiana Purchase, and the Florida territory. These key additions
to the nation would light a spark in the minds of the American public and would lead
to the idea of Manifest Destiny . This term is used to describe the territorial
expansion of America between the time period in between the War of 1812 and the
Civil War. Manifest Destiny is basically the belief that the territorial expansion across
the continent was deserved and destined to occur. With this belief in the minds of
Americans, the country would continue its growth across the continent through
treaties, war, and annexation of land. The Westward Expansion of the United States
up until 1860 had a positive effect on the growth of the nation to an extent. The
territorial expansion had an effect on the nation politically, economically, and
socially. The Westward Expansion of the United States up until 1860 had an effect on
the growth of the nation politically. In 1823, President James Monroe delivered what
19. Biomedical Appliances And The Destruction They Bring
Biomedical Appliances and the Destruction They Bring In the ever growing industry
of biomedical sciences, many devices have the potential to cause harm to the
environment. They have to be treated with such caution and have drastic disposal
measures in place to make sure no damage is done to the environment. Yes, these
steps are incredibly important with devices such as these, but why use a product with
such devastating potential? With today s modern technology and brilliant scientists
should put more effort into creating more environmentally friendly biomedical
technology whilst still having the same benefits. The world today is ever changing
and technology is progressively advancing each and every day. Laura Cabrera wrote
an article in which she discusses the effect humans have on the environmentand how
the environment affects them. The goal of the article is to discover how biomedical
science can be further developed by understanding the environmental impact of
humans. Technological advancements have yielded positive economic growth,
improved standards of living, and provided new ways of protecting humanhealth. At
the same time, technology has contributed to widespread negative changes in the
environment that include global climate change, deforestation, suburban sprawl,
ecosystem loss, and increased health risks from exposure to radiation, toxicants, and
stress (Cabrera 1). Whereas this technology can be lifesaving and a great benefit to a
modern health, it can

21. Health Motivation And Its Effects On Health
Introduction
Health motivation is believed to be a key factor for motivational health behaviors
and health outcomes (Rabideau, 2005; Ryan Deci, 2000). It is also a predictor of an
individual s motivation to change health behaviors, which may be increased by
strengthening health knowledge and reducing health risks (Schwarzer, 2001).
Motivation in regards to health behaviors may be able to alter cognitively based
interventions using health education.
Screening is a preventative tool used in the efforts to reduce the likelihood of
colorectal cancer (CRC), the second most common cause of cancer death in the U.S.,
CRC screening can detect disease at an early stage, when treatments are the most
effective through the identification and removal of precancerous polyps (National
Institute of Health (NIH), 2014). Preventative health behaviors can refer to various
activities that an individual may take to maintain, prevent, and restore, used to
prevent or improve to their health (NIH, 2014). For instance, health motivation and
the components of health behavior has been addressed in many health behavior
theories (e.g., Health Action Process Approach (Schwarzer, 1992), Protection
Motivation Theory (Rogers, 1983; Rogers Prentice Dunn, 1997), Theory of Planned
Behavior (Ajzen s, 1985; Ajzen Madden, 1986).The study of health motivational
behavior has given rise and has been pursued by researchers from different
disciplines, including psychology, social psychology, education, and
22. Causes Of Migration To America
What reasons would you up and move to a new country? European settlers came to
America to seek new opportunities and discover new things and also to escape
persecution. Immigration has been a leading topic in our world for a long period
of time, a recent study showed that approximately sixty eight million immigrant
have migrated to America since the year 1970. Think to yourself, what is the
reason that all these immigrants have migrated to America, and what effect do they
have on Americans? One reason that European settlers have migrated to America is
for their freedom rights. In the short story Balboa , by Sabrina Murray, a spanish
explorer of the name Vasco Nunez de Balboa, was part of a voyage that explored
Columbia and was looking for
23. The Health Of The Healthcare Footprint
The healthcare footprint is defined as, the actions and decisions that impact the
health of people worldwide (Health, 2009). The environment, economics and
political willpower are all cornerstones of the healthcare footprint. Health is a
generally broad term used to describe much more than just a person s physical well
being; it also includes a person s mental and social well being. All of these well
beings extend beyond if someone is ill or not going to the dentist. Issues like access
to clean drinking water, funding clinics and triaging individuals relate to the
healthcare footprint (Health, 2009). One significant concern is that improvements in
medicineand healthcare are not equitably spread across all countries poorer
countries (like those in Africa) lack modern advances and deal with extra
challenges like Ebola and increasing cases of HIV/AIDS. Another concern about
health care is that the political realm of governments control how budgets are spent
and more specifically if people can have equal access to care when illness strikes and
preventable care to avoid disease.
There are more factors contributing to health care including an individual s ecological
footprint. Researchers In 2011, McMichael and Butler found that there many relations
between people s lives and both their ecological and health care footprints. Here are
some highlights:
There is a positive relationship between a person s level of affluence and their health.
Just because a person has a larger
24. Lineage-Based Perspective
With there being more than 50,000 species of vertebrates alone it is essential for
all biology majors to have a working knowledge of the tree of life. The two
perspectives for teaching zoology are the Linnean taxonomical and the Phylogenetic
clade based perspective. The Linnean taxonomical perspective is a rank based
hierarchy while the phylogenetic clade based perspective groups speciesby focusing a
common ancestor and its descendants. In regards to teaching zoology there is more
value in using the phylogenetic clade based perspective rather than the Linnean
perspective because it allows students to organize the details of biodiversitywith a
more rational system.
Phylogenetic taxonomy focuses on common ancestry and derived functional ... Show

For example; Coleoptera contains over three hundred thousand species while Primate
contains roughly four hundred species including the human (Ballen, Cissy J., and
Harry W. Greene).
This lack of criteria is what causes the exclusion of taxonomic acknowledgment of
major evolutionary innovations while inaccurately portraying history. It is also
mentioned in Greene s more recent journal that the Linnean method fails at
specifying clades based upon the origin of limbs in tetrapods and shelled egg
amniotes. While it also, obscures the fact that crocodilians are more closely related
to birds than they are to turtles, lizards, and snakes, which does not highlight many
dramatic similarities between earlier archosaurs (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W.
Greene). These two main concerns of omission and obscuration are why the
phylogenetic clade based system is a far more valuable and beneficial methodology
for teaching zoology.
As it was mentioned previously, the phylogenetic clade based perspective only
recognizes monophyletic taxa, which are those taxa derived from a common ancestor
not shared with any other group. There is another argument being made that
paraphyletic groups should not be included as units of study within a zoology course.
Paraphyletic and monophyletic units of study both have their benefits and drawbacks
however I believe that
25. The Pros And Cons Of Human Space Exploration
Human space exploration certainly has its advantages over robots in several ways.
The first of such is that humans are capable of on the spot decisions and critical
thinking. Humans are able to adapt and respond to unforeseen circumstances while
robots simply cannot. Such a thing is evident in the robotic Viking mission to Mars.
Detailed by the article The Future of Space ExplorationManned or Robotic Missions,
the Viking landers on Mars were equipped with tools to sample the Martian soil and
a small chemistry lab to detect whether or not the soil contained life. The results
obtained were highly unusual, and chemical reactions from the soil were unlike any
known life form on Earth. It was concluded that the soil was lifeless; however, the
robot was designed only to detect Earth type life. The chemical reactions certainly
could have been a sign of unknown Martian organisms, and a trained humanwould
have been able to test for this and reach a definitive conclusion. If a trained human
was in the same position, he/she would have been able to perform additional tests and
conclusively determine whether or not unknown Martian life existed in the soil
sample... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human exploration is much more efficient in terms of scientific progress per
mission. However, looking strictly at monetary cost per mission, robotic
exploration is much cheaper. The Mars Science Laboratory, the latest Mars rover,
cost roughly 2.5 billion dollars to build and land on Mars (National Aeronautics
and Space Administration, Mars Science Laboratory Landing ). The exact cost of a
manned mission to Mars is uncertain, but is given a range of 80 to 100 billion
dollars (Kaufman, A Mars Mission for Budget Travelers ). The rover is clearly a
more efficient choice in terms of monetary value; however, the scientific knowledge
gained from manned versus unmanned missions is drastically
26. Symbolism In Gattaca
The 1997 film Gattaca, is a striking, thought provoking film that challenges the
human perception of discrimination, identity and morality. The film is set in the not
too distant future and follows a less than perfect man that has wanted to become an
astronaut ever since he was a young boy. However, unfortunately for Vincent
Freeman (Ethan Hawke), society has cast him aside as invalid due to his genetic
make up. Vincent decides to assume the identity of Jerome Morrow (Jude Law), a
perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic due to a car crash. The filmfollows
Vincent in his final week at Gattaca, and the everyday struggles he has to endure in
order to keep up the genetic charade that is his life.
One of the aspects that makes Gattaca ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The very first scene of the movie is a series of extreme close ups of Skin, Nails and
Hair. These immediately foreshadow the film s exploration of scientific ideas, and the
society s obsession with DNA and genetic material. The camera then pans to an
extreme close up of Vincent shaving his face and a shot of Vincent scrubbing skin off
himself with a coarse brush. This image of Vincent scrubbing himself is a frequent
occurrence in the film, and are a representation of Vincent s inferiority and in valid
DNA. Through these intense images of small, genetic particles, the film challenges
the notion that humanity is determined by its DNA. Rather than portraying
individuals as a sum of their collective parts, Gattaca shows that it is determination
and drive, rather than genetic standing, that makes an individual great. The names of
the characters are another way symbolism is used in the film. Vincent s name is
drawn from the latin verb Vincere which means to conquer and win, something
Vincent shows he can do throughout the film despite his inferior Genes. His last
name Freeman also hints to his triumph against adversity, as Freeman was the title
given to slaves who became emancipated through their achievements. Jerome s name
is also significant as it represents science and the future, his name alludes to Genome ,
the genetic material of an organism. His middle name,
27. The Powerful Antonin Artaud
Antonin Artaud was an artist who was cursed physically, tormented emotionally,
and was constantly walking in the shadow of his childhood ailments. Though his
illnesses set him back in many ways, Artaud was ever persistent and dedicated to
expressing himself artistically, even if it meant he had to work twice as hard as
anyone else to be heard and understood. As such, Artaud s work in the theater gives
us a sense that anything is possible. His writing, directing and conceptualizing are
evidence of his inability to be bound or limited in any sort of artistic way. Artaud s
theater is one full of possibilities and unexplored territories. As Artaud himself said,
If there is still one hellish, truly accursed thing in our time, it is our artistic dallying
with forms, instead of being like victims burnt at the stake, signaling through the
flames. 1 Artaud s childhood bout with a severe case of meningitis affected him for
the rest of his life. He suffered from nervousness, an irritable temperament,
neuralgia, stammering, and severe bouts of clinical depression.2 As a result, Artaud
spent much of his adolescence in and out of sanatoriums it was there that he first
became addicted to opiates when they were prescribed to him for his pain, which
resulted in a lifelong addiction.3 When Artaud was finally able to escape the
sanatoriums, he began a life as both a poet and an actor in Paris. As a writer, Artaud
struggled due to the physical repercussions from his youth:
28. I Am The Cheese Movie And Book Comparison
I Am The Cheese is a book written by Robert Cormier in 1977. It more than likely
takes place in the 1960 s to the early seventies. In 1983, a movie was made based
off this book. Both the movie and the book follow the same fundamental plotline
but there are some differences. This includes different characters, points of view,
and a different ending. In I Am The Cheese, a boy named Adam Farmer is being
interrogated about his life by a man named Brint. There are three separate plotlines
in this story including the past, a bike ride, and the interrogation. Adam has many
hardships in his life and seems to be going crazy. He starts to become suspicious of
his dad because it seems like he is hiding something from him. Later on his dad

29. Bushido Essay
It has been seen within the world we live in that religion or philosophies in
opposition lead to conflict. It does not even matter if the people in opposition are
from the same nation, ethnic group, or not. Civil wars are often the most brutal of
conflicts, ending friendships and sundering familial ties. Within the fantasy world
of Legend of the Five Rings there are the opposing warrior traditions of Bushido
and Shourido. Bushido is the traditional way of the warrior, a code that has existed
since the first century of The Empire of Rokugan. Bushido is defined by seven
virtues: Compassion, Courage, Courtesy, Duty, Honesty, Honor, and Sincerity
(Carmen et al. 42). Over a thousand years later the code of Shourido came into
existence, with a more individualistic approach slowly gaining a following. This
following swelled with the formation of The Spider Clan which almost wholly
embraced Shourido. Like Bushido, the code of Shourido also has seven virtues which
are: Control, Determination, Insight, Knowledge, Perfection, Strength, and Will
(Carmen et al. 45). Within this fictional society that exists as a feudal Empire the mass

A society built upon this foundation in a world with no means of swift long
distance communications relies upon stability to maintain cohesion. Bushido plays
an important role here as those who rule follow its tenets making their actions
predictable in the day to day lives of those in the lower castes and among each
other. The virtue of Loyalty ensures that political coups are rare; in fact, among the
Imperial line, it has only taken place once in over a thousand years. This stability
allows for a high probability of prosperity barring war or natural calamity. The other
virtues only enhance the Empire s stability as they dictate a whole range of behaviors
that protect the lower
30. Examples Of Strain Theory
Strain Theory could have a strong influence on a youth s lifestyle and be a theory
explaining why juveniles have turned towards delinquency as a building block in the
direction of adulthood. The following essay will be introducing a belief on why
strain theory is one of the foremost concepts leading to misbehavior in adolescents.
The Strain Theory could be explained as a person who has reached their boiling
point and it has become time for it to release some, if not all its internal pressure.
Crime may be used to reduce or escape from the strain, seek revenge against the
source of strain or related targets, or alleviate negative emotions (Agnew Scheuerman,

Contrast to Subculture Theory, which had an affected action towards a group of
people with the same set of common norms. I could also compare Strain Theory to
Labeling Theory, which an individual is labeled as an odd ball and because they
weren t playing by the rules of those in power. In the book Outsiders The studies of
in the sociology of deviance by Howard Becker, the author writes about how society
tends to place labels on individuals and that person can t remove the title. Majority
of social groups in power will make rules and attempt to enforce them. These social
rules will be defined situations as right and any other rules not established by the
power group will be considered as forbidden or wrong (Beckeif, 1963). Just like with
Strain Theory, an individual who has broken a rule, which in some case could be
just looking or acting different, cannot be trusted to live by the rules agreed by those
in power and will be regarded as an

The derivation of the English term, Moor, is the Greek word, ОјО±П…ПЃОї or

They go on to then say, how this English term Moor has been used to describe
black or very dark things such as, Mavri Thalassa which refers to the Black Sea.
Ancient Greeks used this term to describe the complexion of Africans or objects of
that matter. The origination of the term Moor is even used in various terms that
describe the color black . For example the Spanish word blackberry , is translated in
Spanish as zaramora , which carries the root word mor . The term Moor , also

An Exhibition of Portraits by Alice Neel
An exhibition of portraits of the family by Alice Neel, one of the finest painters of
her generation, is at the Norton Museum of Art February 14 through March 29, 1998.
Both critics and the subjects of her paintings have written of Neel s ability to portray
the dynamics of relationships. Kinships focuses on particular family relationships:
siblings, domestic pairs, parents and children, and members of her own family. The
exhibition was organized by the Tacoma Art Museum, and is sponsored by The
Elizabeth Norton Society.
Born in 1900, Alice Neel worked as a figurative painter during the decades of WPA
realism, postwar abstract expressionism, and 1970s minimalism. She persevered in

The father s tenderness for Jonathan fills the painting, in which he cradles the boy in
his left arm. The warm colors and loose application of paint hide neither the
shadowed look on the father s face, nor the gentle vacantness on the son s.
Neel s early work tended to depict generalized relationships, but as her later work
deepened, she embraced the particular. She didn t paint the gay couple, or the art
world couple instead, she painted unique individuals, as her titles relate: Geoffrey
Hendricks and Brian or Cindy Nemser and Chuck. Each subject has a clear
individualism. She respected the distinct character of each person without
sentimentalizing him or her.
The importance of the family for Neel is reflected in her portraits of her sons and
their wives and children, some of her best known subjects. Last Sickness, 1952,
painted in the year before her mother s death, is intimate and unsentimental, a
daughter s record of her strong mother s decline. In Richard in the Era of the
Corporation, Neel expresses concern for a son driven by the pressures of a corporate
career.
Alice Neel studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women, now the
Moore College of Art. She married Cuban artist Carlos Enriquez in 1925 and moved
to Cuba with him where her first child, Santillana, was born. Another daughter was
born in 1928. In the early 1930s, Neel returned to New York, where she joined the
Public Works of Art Project and later the Federal Art

34. Quality Time Redefined Analysis
In today s society with cell phones, television, internet, and social media, it is very
difficult to stay connected. Our ability to stay balanced in a society with technology
exponentially improving will benefit us when connecting to more things that are real
and in the moment. The idea is not to become completely disconnected with the tech
space, but rather to connect and be involved with life outside of technologyas well.
The point is to become more involved with family and quality time. Yes, we can
still be connected with technology; however, if we take time to disconnect we can
understand what is really going on in our society. Technology is universal no matter
where we go, one use it every day if its traffic lights, bikes, phones, cars,... Show

One just does whatever technology wants them to. For instance you have an iPhone 5
and it perfectly fine, but just because the iPhone 6 comes out you have to get it.
People are oblivious to the negative effects of technology. Technology does has its
benefits but look at the long term effects: the human race is growing thoughtless with
each generation because of the internet and not have real connections with people.
Andrews states, Most people have no idea how much information is collected
surreptitiously about them from social networks and other websites (Andrews 713).
With most sites that one has to make an account in, it usually asks for both first and
last name, email including a conformation within the email, sometimes credit card
number, and even sometimes your address. That right there is enough information to
steal someone s identity. People aren t realizing actually how much information the
internet knows about them. The more advanced we get in technology the lazier
people become. More and more children would rather stay inside and play video
games than go outside to play. Our communication is getting to the point where
people barley have face to face conversations without being distracted by an
electronic device. According to Williams, Even before iPads, there was evidence that
Web centric home life might not, in fact, be eating away at family unity (Williams

has become more synonymous as a marketing term. Components of web 2.0 are
Wikis, Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Flickr. There have been discussions
of Web 2.0 roots been in development communities for open source software, these
communities organize and participate in development of software and ideas and

The term work is expressed as performing duties involving the use of psychological
and physical energy, for the purpose of the manufacture of goods and services in
order to achieve an individuals needs (Gedden s 2008). There are six key areas of
thought in the sociology of work these include managerial psychologist , Durkheim
systems , Interactionist , Weber Interpretivist , Marxian and Post structuralise and
Post Modern (Watson 2008). Sociology is defined as the examination of the
connections which grow between individuals as they are arranged by others in
cultures and how these patterns are affected by the interactions of individuals around
them (Giddens 2009).

He focused heavily on the area of science and over emphasised on the reality of
independence and externally existing society. Durkheim outlined the divisions of
labour by distinguishing between mechanical forms of solidarity and organic
solidarity. He disagreed with psychological reductionism displaying that even an
issue like suicide has to be understood in terms of the level of the individual s
interactions with others and taking their psychological state into account. Durkheim
examined the significance of Social currents Social Facts in society. An important
term outlined by Durkheim is Anomie which is a form of social breakdown in which
the standards that would normally occur in a particular situation does not operate.
Elton Mayo (1880 1949) was greatly inspired by Durkheim s work and created the
concept of the Human Relations School. The Hawthorn Studies was started in
Chicago by examining the effects of workshop lighting had on workers productivity.
It concluded that the close interests shown in the workers had brought the group
together as a team and increased commitment motivation and collaboration. In
Systems Thinking these are societies which are viewed as if they were independent
bodies controlling energy and resources with the environment to live. Systems
thinking are valuable in its importance on arrangements and outlines in social life. It

world does not need to know all our problems. We become vulnerable and
susceptible to getting hurt when we reveal our true selves. We keep the masks on.

Environmental law is a term describing the network of treaties, statutes, regulations,
and common laws addressing the effects of human activity on the natural
environment. The government is responsible for enforcing these laws and making
sure that the public is aware of the responsibility they have to ensure the safety of our
environment. Throughout this paper, the topics regarding the tragedy of the commons,
the sharing of resources, who should have access to these resources, and the
government s role in making these decisions is brought to light. Of the many issues
in our world, I believe that environmental law is put in the dark. The reason why
people do not look as closely at this as they do at gun control laws is simple...long
term effects. The public sees the effects of gun laws and equality in their community,
but when it comes to recycling and using common resources in a reusable way they
are blind to the topic. The tragedy of the commonsis an economic problem where
people will neglect the needs of other individuals and fight for their own personal
gain. For example, imagine a huge pond with a lot of fish in it. Every fisherman has
a regular fishing pole and they all average about the same catches per week. Then, a
company designs a new, more advanced fishing pole. A few fisherman try it out and
they end up catching double the amount of fish. Regardless of the fish declination in
the pond and the impact it is having on other fisherman, they continue fishing with

Insignificance is a matter of perception; the smallest detail may end up being the most
important. This is true in the story of Antigone because a character who is never
physically on stage has one of the greatest presences throughout the play, Polyneices.
Through his death and even after, Polyneices, drives the actions of the characters,
continually develops the characters, and focuses the overall theme of the play.
The death of Polyneices by the hand of his brother, Eteocles, is the major source of
conflict within this play. It causes the characters to have contrasting reactions, and
also contributes to their actions. Antigone from the beginning wants to give
Polyneices a proper burial despite the grave consequences. Ismene, I am going to ...

ban is completely different. Bury him! You have just said the new law forbids it...
But think of the danger! Think what Kreon will do! (Prologue, 33 34, 37 38). This
shows that Ismene is being logical and cares about her own well being which adds
to her overall character. Antigone on the other hand seems to be in such despair
that she does not care what happens to her as long as her brother is at peace. But I
will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy. (Prologue, 55 56);
Antigone is showing her steadfastness and saying she has made up her mind and
nothing can change that. This adds important characteristics to her character that the
reader would not have without Polyneices. Kreon s character also gains development
through Polyneices because of how quickly he makes the burial of Polyneices
against the law and puts Antigone to death. Both of these people were basically his
children whom he promises Oedipus to protect, but to him the crown is more
important which shows his hubris. Finally, the development of these characters
would not have been as interesting, and the play would have not been as remarkable
without the role of the insignificant

entire film Dean Witter could not stress enough the importance of how tough the
process would be in order to work for his company, even if someone got a perfect
score on the exam their chances of being hired was still very slim. Chris exceeds
those expectations and is later given the job. The film The Pursuit of Happyness told a
story of a true American Hero. Chris Gardner should be an inspiration to those who
have been faced with the same situations. All those sleepless nights trying to think
of ways to make money, then moving from one homeless shelter to the next, and
having to face his son everyday hoping that one day he would understand, is
something no one in our society should have to go through in order to live in a
world that is based off power and greed. Chris Gardner was an underrated African
American who lived an underprivileged proletariat

Introduction to our specific production and the theatre design element: While
evaluating the history of A Midsummer Night s Dream, it is apparent that an exact
date, time, or stage design has been identified for this particular Shakespearean
masterpiece. It is believed by some scholars that William Shakespeare wrote this
play with a wedding in mind, while other s will argue that the final script wasn t
performed for anyone in particular, but rather for the general public in an
amphitheater setting. According to the time period that A Midsummer Night s
Dream was made public, it is a large possibility that it was not performed in London,
and that it was most definitely not performed as a small production in an Inn yard, or
even an indoor playhouse.
The Elizabethan Theatre Era
Prior to the rule of the Queen Elizabeth I, acting was not seen as a serious profession.
Most of the players (unless they were summoned to the King s court) were working
men, who held everyday jobs in addition to being entertainers. Although the plays that
could be performed were limited (as the theme was normally based around religion),
the demand for theatrical entertainment was vast, and the theatre was becoming a
fashionable place to go for entertainment.
Of course, with the theatre growing into a popular form of amusement, a large issue
surrounding the art was a finding a place to perform. Because of the strict regulations
passed by the English government (which was tremendously

43. Colossians 3
Colossians 3 is saying that we have to become someone new in Christ. In Colossians
verse 1, it said that we should seek heavenly things not the things that are on the
Earth. Colossians, 3:1 said ВЁIf then you have been raised with Christ, seek the
things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Another thing
that I observed was in verse 10, we have to put on a new self, which is being renewed
in knowledge after the image of the creator. In Colossians 3:10, it said ВЁand have
put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its
creator. The third thing that I observed was we have to let God s word dwell in us
teaching and guiding us. In verse 16 of Colossians 3, it said ВЁ Let the word of Christ

In Colossians 3:22, it said Bondservants, obey in everything those who are you
earthly master, not by way of eye services, as people pleasers, but with sincerity of
heart, fearing the Lord. In Matthew 19:19, it said that we should love our neighbor
as ourself. I think this relates to one another because in both of the passages, it said
that we should love one another. In Colossians 3:22, it said Bondservants, obey in
everything those who are you earthly master, not by way of eye services, as people
pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. . The word Bondservant is
another word for slaves. In the Greek, the word bondservant in not used but the
word slave is. In Ephesians 6:5, it talks about how bondservant to obey your
master. Ephesians 6:5 said Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear,
and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. It relates because they
both talk about how slaves should obey their masters and it also talks about the
heart. The last word is heart. The definition for heart is inner life. In Matthew
13:19, it said that the evil one snatches the heart. They relate because they both talk
about the heart and how we have to be sincere to God and fear him. If we don t, the
evil one will snatch our hearts away and we will fall astray from
