Deadly Debris Humans tend to think of space as infinite, that is true as far as we can tell, however the
space around Earth is not infinite. After the Space race began in the late 1950 s countries began
sending satellites into space for various purposes. Today these Satellites are very important to
everyday life, but there is a looming problem that has often been overlooked. Low Earth orbit, where
most satellites and spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of many old and decaying satellites.
Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in space and could eventually make low
Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi paper I am currently working on is a story
about a group of astronauts in the near future who are returning from mining an asteroid. In this story
it is much like the moon landings in that people were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now.
These are just routine missions that hardly anyone knows or cares about. This all changes however
when two satellites in high orbit on Earth collide, one being a communication satellite with the
astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now returning to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them
at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is
hit. Now adrift in space the astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for humans.

How Sexuality is Socially Constructed Essay
From birth, one s sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as the
societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should act in
relation to one another. Although some may argue that one s sexuality is an innate characteristic
resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its social construction
instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established gender roles, and
drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors that are expected of
its citizens.
As Tamsin Wilton explains in her piece, Which One s the Man? The Heterosexualisation of Lesbian
Sex, society has fronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilton later describes how, by turning away from the heterosexual male female institution, women are
taking a crucial step on the path of liberation. Although a woman may be content having relations with
a male, the male s dominant role in society should be enough persuasion for the former to leave such
structured relationship so as to explore a freer partnership that goes against societal expectations.
Wilton refers to Monique Wittig, a French author and feminist theorist, who states our survival
demands that we contribute all our strength to the destruction of the class of women within which men
appropriate women. Thus, Wittig expresses that heterosexuality is a social system (Wilton 165). Why
heterosexuality is forced upon the majority, however, is still unclear. Emily Martin, in her article, The
Egg and the Sperm: How Science has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female
Roles, explains why this is so. Procreation can only occur upon the union of sperm and egg and their
behaviors have created stereotypes which imply not only that female biological processes are less
worthy than their male counterparts but also that women

Comparison Of Lysosomes And Vacuoles
A cell is like a huge factory. Numerical amounts of processes are non stop, even when we re asleep.
After a long day of sleeping and play, you must eat. A great meal satisfies the body; to keep moving
each and every day, but how does it get receive the nutrients and power its needs? That is through its
digestive system, but more in particular, the cell organelles. Two of these organelles work hand in
hand to keep the body functioning. The two organelles are the lysosomes and vacuoles. The two
organic like objects are like brothers. They need and depend on each other, to digest and dispose of
waste coming from the human being. These items also are located in the cytoplasm of the cell where
they are recycled and deposit fresh nutrient into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cell as no particular shape nor size. Vacuoles store the nutrients needed for the cell and as well as
keep it from being contaminated by the waste produced by the body. It is found in both plant and
animal cells but is much larger in the plant cell, because its main degree of function is storage of water
for the plant to larger portion of its family which is the Vacuole. It exports items outside of the cell to
keep damage to a all time low. On the contrary, lysosomes break down food and garbage inside the
body as well. Its like the stomach of the cell. It s found in all eukaryotic cells. Lysosomes are typically
recycled back into the cytoplasm of the cell after the enzymes attack and destroy the harmful
substances that it broke down and engulfed. Lysosomes are also like the builders of the cell, and
looked upon as a reparation item. They are able to act upon this way due to a special enzyme called
hydrolytic enzymes. Enzymes within the endoplasmic reticulum plays an important role in nurturing
the process of creating a lysosome. Which information is then sent to the Golgi body and the
formation of the lysosomes are then created by the budding off of its branches and then sent to the

Biblical Inspiration Howard Marshall
This book review is from the readings of Biblical Inspiration by Howard Marshall. The book is
published by Regent College Publishing located in Vancouver, and British Columbia published the
book in 2004. The book is braces around the interpretation of the Bible, and the inspiration of the
Bible in our lives of today. There are many questions that are brought up the book, and these include:
Is the Bible infallible? How do we interpret the Bible today? is its inspiration believable in and
biblical criticism believable? All of the different opinions on biblical issues equivalent to these bring
up issues and questioning within the community. It is Marshall s goal to try and produce a statement
that is concrete of what the Bible says in our lives today. Biblical Inspiration has five different key
components. The first components is Marshall talking about how God exposes himself to society.
Marshall wanted to make it obvious that this controversy is based for of his readers, and these readers
have some kind of belief in God, and the realness of him. After this Marshall starts to talks about the
question that is raised. This question is is God reveals himself in different ways, and can one of these
ways be in the Bible? Marshall made it apparent that he believed God revealed himself quite
obviously in the Bible, and was a very important tool for God to reveal himself to us. Marshall
confirmed this when he said, Christians do experience such moments of revelation as

Buy Nothing Day Essay
Could you go twenty four hours without purchasing any goods? In Canada in 1992, a day was
organized to increase awareness of excessive consumerism, called Buy Nothing Day. It urged citizens
to not purchase any goods within a twenty four hour period. Since 1992, this day has been held yearly
in many other nations. Citizens have conflicting viewpoints on the role of Buy Nothing Day as to
whether it is successful or unsuccessful, however I believe it is unsuccessful for countries to
implement. While annual Buy Nothing Day increases awareness to excessive consumerism and
exposes the environmental and ethical consequences of overconsumption, it is unrealistic, negatively

Annual Buy Nothing Day is as unrealistic as a unicorn and lacks practicality for the general public.
Additionally, Buy Nothing Day effects both small and large businesses negatively. Many people
accept the idea of this annual day easily and do not think about the negative effects to businesses
around the country. However, culturally, some people are similar to the frog in the short story The
Parable of the Frog in the Well from Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa because they are unwilling to
accept new ideas like the idea of yearly Buy Nothing Day. Citizens should not feel obligated to accept
this new idea because of its effects to businesses. Most businesses rely on daily income to keep their
doors open and to pay their employees. If a business were to lose a day s worth of income, it could
cost the business tons of money. Some businesses would have to determine if it would be worth
closing their stores for a day. Small businesses would be negatively affected the most since they are
dependent on daily incomes to pay their employees and keep their business running smoothly. The
industry of online purchases has also become very popular in recent years. This annual day would
require online shopping to stop for a twenty four hour period. It would be very difficult to discourage
people from shopping online or monitoring their shopping habits on Buy Nothing Day. It would cause
an inconvenience for people of all kinds.

Rock And Roll In The 1960s
In today s society, there are many forms of popular music genres. One of these genres is rock. Now,
what exactly is rock? Rock is a popular music genre that develop from rock and roll during the mid
late 1960s in the United States. In addition, rock and roll comes from multiple music genres, such as
blues, jazz, and country music. During the 1960s, rock music itself took United States by storm,
because it affected many people, especially the young generation. It was a cultural phenomenon. One
main reason for this phenomenon was radio and late night shows, such as Saturday Night Live. Those
two entertainment factors helped promote rock music to basically everyone in the country, because
back then radios and televisions brought everyone to together ... Show more content on

In fact, there are several artists that had helped changed the way rock music is by adding new elements
to the music genre. For example, the Beatles is one main group that had revolutionize the rock genre
itself. For many years, rock music had been centered and surrounded by singles (one song), instead of
centered around albums. When the Beatles released their eighth album called Sgt. Pepper s Lonely
Hearts Club Band in 1967, it transformed the rock music industry to be more albums orientated.
Another famous artist that probably made as big of an impact or even bigger than the Beatles is Elvis
Presley. Elvis is the definition of early rock, because he was a musical and cultural icon who not only
helped shaped rock music itself, but also helped influence people around the world in many ways,
such as people s everyday fashion and attitude. Finally, it comes to John Mayer who is more of a
modern artist that also helped evolve rock music. He helped make an impact in rock music thru his
blue style guitar playing and having that pop rock sounding in his songs. This is what made John
Mayer an icon in the music

Following the government s Cumberledge report (1986) which outlined the importance of nurses
becoming prescribers within community settings to improve delivery of care, benefits impose more
flexibility when assessing and planning medication treatment to service users (Nuttall et al 2011).
Bishop et al (2015) see that nurse prescribing has vast many benefits from patient concordance with
treatment, reduction of both hospital and general practitioners (GP) attendances.

in the year 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia when he invented caramel colored syrup in a three legged brass
kettle in his backyard. He first distributed the product by carrying it in a jug down the street to Jacob s
Pharmacy and customers bought the drink for five cents at the soda fountain. Carbonated water was
teamed with the new syrup, whether by accident or otherwise, producing a drink that was proclaimed
delicious and refreshing , a theme that continues to echo today wherever Coca Cola is enjoyed. Dr.
Pemberton s partner and book keeper, Frank M. Robinson, suggested the name and penned Coca Cola
in the unique flowing script that is famous worldwide even today. He suggested that the two Cs would
look well in advertising. The first newspaper ad for Coca Cola soon appeared in The Atlanta Journal,

Radiology Application Essay
I am thrilled to be choosing Radiology as the path to becoming the kind of doctor I ve always
envisioned: intelligent, collaborative, and compassionate.
Radiologists serve as cornerstones in the practice of medicine. Time and again, I ve seen diagnosis and
treatment dependent on proper understanding of imaging. As a Physics nerd, I am intrigued by the
cutting edge of technology. My fondest memories of the OR include being swept away by the miracle
of image guided surgery. Our patient had been diagnosed with brain cancer, and the tumor was
scheduled for resection. Rather than make an incision and expose the operative area as I d seen many
times in general surgery, the neurosurgeon was able to utilize an instrument that transmitted its
position and trajectory to a computer and projected this information onto pre operative MRI. In this
way, the surgeon was able to follow in real time the precise location of his surgical instruments for a
minimally invasive tumor resection. This was my first real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

How To Pull An All Nighter Compare And Contrast
A piece of writing has little meaning if the overall topic is not compared to another work. In fact, any
object in the world has this same philosophy. A golf ball, for example, has individual detail to it, but
when compared to a basketball, it has an entirely new meaning and description. This concept is also
appropriate when reading and analyzing literature. Whether this literature is analogous or extremely
disparate to another, the reader s perspective shifts. After reading How to Pull an All Nighter, by
Joshua Piven, David Borgenicht, and Jennifer Worwick, and The Economist s Higher Education: Not
What It Used to Be, I quickly noticed an interesting juxtaposition between the two. The first is a basic
how to that illustrates staying awake for the entire night. Whereas the second informs the reader about
pressing issues concerning fiscal matters of college. Many books and articles such as these possess
elements that help compose a unique piece of writing, including the intended audience, layout, and the
ultimate purpose. Comparing and contrasting these two readings, some characteristics appear to be
shared while others create a definite divergence between the two. There are often numerous
fundamental components of writing that shapes the general frame of the work. How to Pull an All
Nighter exemplifies these essential qualities. To begin with, the article was published in 2004 and had
three writers collectively contribute to the text. This nonfiction

St. Thomas Aquinas And The Theological Principles Of Faith
Better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to
contemplate is a famous quote by St. Thomas Aquinas. It mentions how giving others the full truth
about what they believe in is the best way for others to be willing members of a particular group. St.
Thomas Aquinas always believed that there is nothing more sincere than the truth. It was always
important to him to make sure everything he said was honest, especially speaking about the Lord so it
wouldn t be considered heresy. As Aquinas grew older and older, he started to learn more in depth on
why honesty needs to be demonstrated more in the world. This was particularly important to him

Boeing versus Airbus
1. Do you believe Airbus could have become a viable competitor without subsidies?
Given the competitive dynamics in the commercial aircraft industry, it is not likely that Airbus could
have become a viable competitor without subsidies. These dynamics include investment costs in the
billions for research and development of a new airliner, long break even times, significant experience
curve on the manufacturing side, and the highly volatile demand for aircraft. Due to a lack of market
share, if Airbus entered the market without this support they would have suffered many years of losses

5. Why do you think that the U.S. industry reacted with caution to attempts by politicians to reopen
the trade dispute in 1993?
There are several reasons why the US industry acted with caution. First of all, positive trade
agreements were already in place from the 1992 trade agreement. The industry probably thought it
should wait longer to ensure things worked out on their own before allowing politicians to intervene
and make changes. If politicians had caused things to go south, which they inevitably do, these
agreements would have been jeopardized. Secondly, the industry was practicing risk management. A
lack of caution could have created a mess as the economy was taking a turn for the worse. Lastly,
reopening old wounds could have caused Europe to pull out of many deals with the US, further
disrupting international relations. The US weighed the odds and very quietly backed out, as they
should have.
6. In an era of global competition, what is the case for antitrust authorities to permit the formation of

Ethical And Cultural Considerations In Diagnosis Essay
Discuss Cultural and Ethical considerations in diagnosis
In clinical Psychology there are plenty of diagnostic options for people with manual and mental
disorders. Two of the commonly used ones are ICD and DSM. ICD is the International Classification
of Diseases, and DSM is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. DSM offers a
standard criteria for the classification of mental disorders. It heavily relied upon by the legal system,
pharmaceutical companies, health insurance companies, researchers and clinicians as is the ICD. DSM
has been modified over the years and as of 2013 its fifth edition was published. The difference
between ICD and DSM is that ICD is used to classify health concerns in general, not just mental and
manual health. ICD is very popular in Europe and other parts of the world where as the DSM is
popular in North America.
Diagnoses are usually based on these symptoms, Emotional, Behavioural, Cognitive, and or Physical

Clinicians more specifically diagnosticians, as well as other persons often favor perceiving people to

The Pearl by John Steinbeck, tells the story of Kino, a man who finds a precious pearl and hopes to

family. This quickly leads to death and demolition, ruining the world Kino and Juana has lived in their
whole lives. This novella demonstrates how a presumed blessing can lead to overprotection and

Once his adrenaline rush clears Kino realizes something is wrong Tree frogs and cicada were silent

also infer that when Kino killed the trackers, it demonstrated how desperate Kino and Juana are. They
were forced to kill three men to keep the freedom they always took for granted. Coyotito s death was
the last straw. At that point, Kino and Juana lost any hope in selling the pearl and creating a better life

There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute monarchy.
Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any law passed or
suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a figurehead as a
head of state.
In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its unique
two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of Sparta, they
weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from taking too many
decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other monarchies in the
times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer Greece in 336 BCE
(Brand, n.d. ,p36).
Aristocracy.
This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call
today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. This would have given them a
good chance of perks and probably a good way of becoming wealthier (Mahabal, Joshi, 2017).
Tyranny.

oligarchy of 400 took power by overthrowing the assembly, it seems they were a little tyrannical in the
way they acted, and were overthrown by the oligarchy of 5000, who were more moderate (Cartwright,

Postpartum Depression During The Postpartum Period
The postpartum period is about going through change and transition from a woman to a new mother.
This is a time where mothers restore muscle tone and connective tissue in the body after the birth of
the baby. Although there is a dramatic change during the postpartum period, women s body is
nonetheless not fully stored to pre pregnant physiology until about 6 months post delivery (Osailan,
6). At this time, women need to receive special health and social support to prevent problems such as
postpartum depression. During this period, culture plays a major role in the way a woman perceives
and prepares for her birthing experience. In fact, the notions of birth and postnatal care vary
considerably with cultural beliefs and traditional practices. Each culture has its own values, beliefs
and practices related to pregnancy and birth (Osailan,1). In the United States, after a short hospital
stay, moms and babies are sent home because it is expected for mothers to heal within 42 days after
giving birth. Whereas in other societies like Mexico, the postpartum recovery is active long enough
until the new mother is fully healed (Brenhouse). In the article, Why Are America s Postpartum
Practices So Rough on New Mothers? by Hilary Brenhouse, the author states, With these rituals comes
an acknowledgment, familial and federal, that the woman needs relief more at this time than at any
other especially if she has a career to return to and that it takes weeks, sometimes months, to properly

Alzheimer s And The Most Relevant Cause Of Dementia
Alzheimer s, the most relevant cause of Dementia, is a disease that affects as many as 4.5 million
Americans per year (WebMD 2005 2014). Alzheimer s is a disease that is an irremediable, continuous
brain neuron degenerative disease that can be asymptomatic at first and then overtime becomes
symptomatic. Alzheimer s is a gradual disease that advances in three phases: mild, then moderate, and,
finally, severe (1). Symptoms appear after the age of 60 and include: the slow destruction of memory
and thought processes, and ultimately ends with the absent ability to do normal everyday duties. These
symptoms can be anything from forgetting a recent event, or can be as problematic as forgetting the
name of a family member. There are many daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alzheimer s disease usually affects geriatrics that is nearing the age of 60, but there are sometimes
rare cases of early onset Alzheimer s occurring around the age of 30. Early onset Alzheimer s
identifies less than 5 percent of all the people who have Alzheimer s disease (Alzheimer s Disease
Education and Referral Center). According to WebMD (2014), late onset is the most common form of
Alzheimer s disease that victimizes almost half of all of the people over the age of 65 and may or may
not be hereditary. Early Onset Alzheimer s Early onset Alzheimer s is a rare, but fast stage of
Alzheimer s disease. According to Glenn E. Smith, Ph.D., a neuropsychologist at Mayo Clinic, in
Rochester, Minn. (2014), Early onset Alzheimer s is an uncommon form of dementia that strikes about
5 percent of patients with symptoms before the age of 65. This form of Alzheimer s has been known to
develop between the ages 30 and 40, but that s very uncommon (Smith 2014). Scientists do not have
an explanation of why people get the disease younger than others. Early onset Alzheimer s that is
hereditary in family members is connected to three different genes that differ from the APOE gene that
can increase your risk of Alzheimer s in general (Smith 2014). The innate conduit of inheritance is
much stronger in early onset Alzheimer s (Smith 2014). If one has a genetic mutation

Fun with Dick and Jane Essay
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)
Starring: Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, and Alec Baldwin
In need of some light hearted entertainment and a good laugh, I chose the movie Fun with Dick and
Jane for this assignment. Fun with Dick and Jane asks the common question, What is the difference
between a corporate crook and a bank robber? The movie opens with Dick leaving his home in the
picture perfect neighborhood in the year 2000. Dick is married to Jane and they have a son who is
more or less being raised by the housekeeper, Blanca. The family is living in a culture of high
powered, high paying jobs, high tech appliances and high stress living. Dick and Jane have it all and
they can t get enough of it.
The first ethical issue that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This movie provides sarcastic contradictions about morality and the ethics of crime. For one short
lived moment, Dick contemplates prostituting Jane for income but of course because this is a light
hearted comedy Jane becomes furious with this suggestion. Not long after her outrage she turns to
burglary willingly. Burglary, just like prostitution, is illegal, immoral, and demoralizing. Unlike
prostitution, which is a misdemeanor, burglary is a felony. These two criminals are portrayed as good
people just trying to feed their son and keep their house, yet the same good guys in the audience who
would frown on prostitution, enthusiastically support burglary as a practical comedic maneuver. Yet, if
Dick and Jane are on the path of immorality, as conveyed by their society s parameters, they might as
well have went with prostitution as a way to make money. With Jane being such an amazing looking
woman, she could have easily earned thousands of dollars a day escorting swanky businessmen, thus
attaining the goal of quick cash less unlawfully.
The movie snidely communicates to us that dressing up as Sonny and Cher to commit armed robbery,
or taking your neighbor s car and driving it through a jewelry store window is less shameful than
selling your body. The definition of robbery is the act of robbing from a person or presence of another
by violence or threat which is considered a felony; prostituting or escorting

An Enemy Of The People Character Analysis
The Plot of An Enemy of the People
Majority of the good stories begin with a crucial list of the ingredients such as the initial situation, the
conflict, the complication, the climax, the suspense, the denouement as well as the conclusion. An
Enemy of the People by Ibsen Henrik is a play that encompasses all these ingredients. The drama
takes the form of a unified plot since it has a chronological order of events from the beginning to the
end. In this paper, I will analyze the plot of this drama play by specifically examining the plot type,
plot action and how in overall the plot is structured.
At the start of the drama, everything appears hunky dory as every individual has a higher expectation
of the Baths to generate a lot of money for the town. Dr. Stockman, the protagonist, is surrounded by
families and friends who all appear to love him. Definitely, there is some sibling rivalry that is taking
place with the mayor, Peter Stockman who is his brother. However, the thing looks fine ultimately,
then Dr. Stockman announces a discovery that he has determined from his investigation that
Municipal`s Baths are actually contaminated with a bacteria. He emphasizes that if there is nothing
that is done to restore the situation, the water that is meant to heal the people will instead make them
sick (Ibsen 17). Upon this discovery, all the supposed friends of Dr. Stockman congratulate him and
praise him calling him a hero. All this is happening during the initial situation before the conflict is
reached.
During the conflict, Peter Stockman who is the mayor of the town brings bad news to Dr. Stockman
but Dr. Stockman swears to safeguard this news. Amidst this crisis, both Hovstad and Aslaksen show
up and promise to offer their support to Dr. Stockman. Dr. Stockman at first does not perceive the big
deal concerning the discovery. He is convinced from his laboratory findings that the water is actually
poisoned and that everybody wants this situation fixed. The bubble of Dr. Stockman is passed quickly
upon the arrival of Peter Stockman, his brother. The mayor informs Dr. Stockman that the town will
be ruined if the pollution of the Baths is fixed. Thusly, he Peter Stockman resorts to threatening his
brother. This makes

Choosing A Major And An Idea Of A Career
Choosing a major and an idea of a career you want to pursue, is not an easy choice. There is a lot of
thinking that goes into deciding what you want to study and what you want to become in the future.
Most people are not positive even once they have entered college as to what it is for sure they want to
do. This MyPlan assessment was extremely informative in what my skills were and how I could use
them. Going to the Career Center on February 5 really helped me to understand what my results meant
and what I could take out of this assessment. We took four tests, a personality, personal interest, skills,
and values test. For my personality test report, there were 4 different categories looked at to come up
with a combined census of what my personality is. You were either, extroverted or introverted, sensor
or intuitive, thinker or feeler, and judger or perceiver. My results showed that I was ESTJ. Which
means that I am extroverted, sensor, thinker, and a judger. Extroverts basically respond very well to
social gatherings and like to be around people. They are usually very talkative and tend to work well
in teams. Sensors seek specific answers to specific questions. Usually they do not have a very wide
imagination and are more realistic. Thinkers believe that it is important to be right and honest with
themselves than it is to be liked. A thinker seeks fairness and tend to be tough minded. Judgers
appreciate organizations, punctuality, order, schedules, etc. Judgers tend to

Summary Of Miss Julie
Miss Julie... The old lady sat there peering at me with her pale blue eyes, till I began to feel uneasy.
Her hair was matted and frizzy, appearing as if it hadn t been brushed in years. What d you say your
name was? she asked, then reached down, picked up the butt of a cigar lighting it, puffing to get it lit. I
had not even spoken a word to her; but I was not going to be rude, so I told her my name. My names
Miss Julie, she said thoughtfully... I had a sister named Susan, she was a pretty lady like you. she
mused. I smiled and said thank you, Miss Julie. Then turned back to my sister, with whom I was trying
to engage in conversation, to get her out of her own fantasy world. When the old lady spoke up again,
saying that she wished she still had a sister to visit with her, as I was doing with mine. Your sister, she
s a real sweet lady, she said. Yes ma am, she is, I agreed, turning again back to my sister. Miss Julie
though, lonely for conversation again spoke up and this time my sister joined in, if only for a moment
or two, till she again drifted back into her own fantasy world. Miss Julie, looked sadly at me as she
said. You know, sometimes all that medicine, just don t help, you know... I agreed, that no it didn t. We
sat and talked off and on, for the remainder of my visit with my sister, and as I was getting ready to
leave, she said. It was nice talking to you, Susan. I smiled and said, It was nice talking to you too,

Introduction
The three communication theories I have applied to provide the most insight into understanding the
dynamics of the observed conversation between two people are; the transmission model (Shannon
Weaver 1949), Foulger s ecological model (Foulger 2004), and an expanded model of communication
(Eunson 2012).
In this essay I have used a conversation I had listened to which was between my friend (from here on
will be named George) and his friend (from here on will be named Mark). Problems that arose during
the conversation will be explained as well as how George and Mark overcame them. From there the
essay will compare and contrast the three communication theories and decide which of these best
simplify the conversation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figure 2: An Ecological Model of the Communication (Source: Foulger 2004)
Eunson s expanded model of communication is more complex than Foulger s as well as Shannon and
Weaver s models, though it is more appropriate to this conversation had between George and Mark
due to the fact it shows that in order for the communication to happen the sender must pre edit and
then encode the message pass the message onto the receiver where he decodes and edits the message.
Eunson also takes into account the use of mechanical, behavioural and semantic factors of encoding,
and understands that if the message is to be understood the receiver must be able to decode the
message. This is particularly relevant, and highly important to this conversation between George and
Mark due to the factors mentioned before.
Context
Figure 3: An expanded model of communication (Source: Eunson 2012)
Conclusion
I have found Shannon and Weavers transactional model too simple and cannot evaluate the
complexities of this situation, and that Foulger s model too broad and not able to focus on the
problems that need to be addressed.
Therefore, I believe that Eunson s expanded model of communication is the most adequate to use out
of the three models that were written about because Eunson s model has shown how a message from
George is first pre edited

In the words of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, satire is a poem, or a piece of prose composition, in

responses are not parallel to that of Dawe and instilling this third voice encourages an alternative point
of view to the reader. This tone and character construction are established in the beginning; Chinese
peasant families famishing in comfort. The word famishing is considered relatively pretentious to
insinuate that the narrator is equipped with some form of education, contrary to that of the family he is

His willingness to display such wit towards a dire situation suggests his inconsideration towards the
Chinese and furthermore, asserts his superiority on them. Dawe uses this tone to make a comment on
the insensitivity of society and bring light to this overconsumption and under reaction. In this way, the

Berlin, eight years after the fall of the illustrious wall is now busy rebuilding and redefining itself.
Since my initial visit I have returned to see friends every other year. The city is no longer restricted by
its cold war status as the symbolic dividing line between East and West. Berlin is the new political,
cultural, and architectural capital of Germany and is quickly becoming one of the key business centers

After World War II Berlin, was badly damaged during the war, unlike World

The Underground Man In Feodor Dostoevsky s Notes From The...
I loved to fall into the common rut, and had a whole hearted terror of any kind of eccentricity in
myself. This quote from Notes from the Underground, by Feodor Dostoevsky inspired the theme for
my first paper. While the underground man displayed more of the tragedy of life, Emily Dickinson s
poem showed the beauty behind the tragedy. The underground man and Emily Dickinson have
experienced isolation towards society.
The way that the underground man describes something may come off as rude and sounding very
angry, but Emily Dickinson can describe something so similar to what the underground man says, but
it won t come off as rude, it sounds beautiful instead, even though she may not be describing a
beautiful situation. Then close the Valves of her attention Like Stone from this quote we notice more
isolation and cold hearted references that also relate to the underground man.
The underground man doesn t find that there is beauty in his life, since he has been all alone and no
one has ever treated him nicely or given him attention, possibly because he has never given someone
attention or have treated someone nicely. Dealing with his fragile personality and ego, the
Underground Man will often hate others in return for being hated, which is not the easiest way to
make friends. He thinks he deserves so much, yet he never does anything to deserve attention from
anyone. I could have forgiven blows, but I could not forgive his having moved me without noticing

Mary Wollstonecraft Her Legacy
Following the Enlightenment, Mary Wollstonecraft wrote the feminist novel The Vindication of the
Rights of Woman. In this novel she applied rights to females that had formerly been reserved to males,
such as unalienable rights. Her novel impacted different areas of society. Wollstonecraft called for the
advancement of women s rights in areas such as education, work, and politics. She also proposes that
women are just as capable as men and have a far greater purpose than simply to be pleasing to men.
Her novel became a bestseller in the summer of 1792.1 After reading her novel, many women applied

Margaret Fuller s novel, Woman in the Nineteenth Century, employed many similar concepts as Mary

has certain rights and these rights apply to man as well as woman. She illustrates that human society
consists of two components that must work together if harmony is to be reached: the feminine side and
the masculine side. For this reason, Fuller insists that women stop playing the subservient role in
society, and overcome the role of dependence on man. Similar to Wollstonecraft, she feels that if
women advance in society, following their wishes and desires, society as a whole will become better.
She explains the inequality and unrest within her contemporary society. Despite advancements for
both genders, women remain behind due to

What Is The Character Of King Lear In King Lear
The play King Lear centers around the King and his daughters, following their journeys after the
transfer of Lear s power. However, at the end, it s not Lear who comes out on top, nor any of his
daughters, but instead Edgar. Edgar s journey is filled with ups and downs throughout the play, as he
adapts to new situations and faces new challenges. Although he is not the main character, Edgar
deserves to live and become the ruler of Britain.
Edgar, as the legitimate son of Gloucester, was the rightful heir all along. He was manipulated by his
brother Edmund and ran away, disguising himself as crazy man called Poor Tom. Edmund was jealous
of his social status and craved power for himself. As a result, Edmund tricked Edgar into leaving.
Before Edmund s drove him away, Edgar had a high position in society:
The country gives me proof and precedent
Of Bedlam beggars who with roaring voices
Strike in their numbed and mortified bare arms
Pins, wooden pricks, nails, sprigs of rosemary,
And with this horrible object, from low farms,
Poor pelting villages, sheepcotes, and mills,
Sometime with lunatic bans, sometime with prayers,
Enforce their charity. Poor Turlygod! Poor Tom!
That s something yet. Edgar I nothing am. (II, iii, 134)

the play. He had everything stripped away from him, clearly stating that he has been reduced to
nothing. Edgar coming out on top and returning to a

Family And Family Analysis
The institution of a family can be viewed as the backbone of society by having a major role in the
functioning of society. It is considered to have many essential functions like reproduction, socializing
children, providing care and support, regulating sexual relationships, etc. Creating an infant is the
beginning of how a family is significant in the functioning of society. The family then provides safety
and economic stability for the child. The social norms, behaviors, and culture are then taught and
learned by the child through exposure from peers and the environment. As the child continues to grow,
the family is constantly giving the child love and support while the child learns his or her self identity.
The cycle of socialization, passing along culture, and providing guidance of self purpose then
continues from generation to generation. Families were essentially the main economic unit of society,
however, that was before industrialization. Depending on the society and culture, the roles within the
family can vary based on gender, class, and race. After industrialization, it was believed that men were
the ones that should earn the money away from the household while the women took care of their
children and house. Margaret L. Andersen and Taylor F. Howard explains, Many men are now more
engaged in housework and child care than was trust in the past, although women still provide the vast
majority of this labor (Andersen Howard, 2014, p.279). However, women that were

John Proctor s Character In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Every day, we make choices that impact our future. They decide where we go, who we meet and how
other people view us. Each choice that we make pushes towards the supposedly right or wrong path,
but the biggest question is how to decide which way we re going. In the search for what s right, the
lines can become blurred into an adamant certainty that what s wrong is right and vice versa. In Arthur
Miller s The Crucible, the characters find out first hand. After a regretful mistake, John Proctor is
desperate to hold on to his ideals and values that make him a good man, but the hysteria of moments
confuse everyone s perspective on good and evil. Miller uses John Proctor s character to demonstrate
to the audience how easily affected even the strongest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the readers begin to see as a strong quality slowly transforms into a flaw. Right off the bat, he
was introduced as the kind of man powerful of body, even tempered, and not easily led (Miller 18) so
that the audience could immediately recognize his position in their community. Strong and even
tempered, he could not be persuaded to do something he did not believe in, although some have tried.
One attempt being Abigail Williams. Previous to the start of the story, Abigail had a brief lasting affair
with the so honorable Proctor. The affair didn t last however and she was kicked out the door by his
less than joyous wife, Elizabeth. When the witch hunt has barely begun, Abigail tells Proctor that I
saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now! (Miller 20) . The subtle
manipulation that Abigail uses to win that man back fails due to his being not easily led . His actions
in ending the affair was reasonable by his part, but led the town into a spiraling muck up of terror.
Proctor s honourable decision went haywire when the act against Abigail fueled her motive to get rid
of Elizabeth. Although

Should Football Be Continued To Play
During the fall it s a ritual for many people to watch their favorite football teams Sunday afternoon. Or
for many students you go to those Friday night football games with your friends. Football is a sport
played all over america that unites people. Can you imagine what would happen if football vanished?
The love of football runs deep in America. In many towns,it s more than just a sport. Football Should
be continued to play because rules have changed and added equipment, players can choose to play or
not, and lastly it gives physical endurance and courage.
First, football should be continued to play because new equipment and rules have been added. There s
new technology and better rules implemented in the game, so I feel extremely protected (

  • 2. Review Of The Sci Fi Ben Moulton Erika Harnett ESS 102 AA 15 Apr. 2016 Deadly Debris Humans tend to think of space as infinite, that is true as far as we can tell, however the space around Earth is not infinite. After the Space race began in the late 1950 s countries began sending satellites into space for various purposes. Today these Satellites are very important to everyday life, but there is a looming problem that has often been overlooked. Low Earth orbit, where most satellites and spacecraft are located is filled with the remains of many old and decaying satellites. Space debris is very dangerous for any human or structure in space and could eventually make low Earth orbit too hazardous to ever use again. The Sci Fi paper I am currently working on is a story about a group of astronauts in the near future who are returning from mining an asteroid. In this story it is much like the moon landings in that people were very intrigued at first but have lost interest now. These are just routine missions that hardly anyone knows or cares about. This all changes however when two satellites in high orbit on Earth collide, one being a communication satellite with the astronauts. The unaware astronauts, now returning to Earth, have no idea what is hurtling toward them at 15,000 miles an hour. NASA is unable to reestablish communication quickly enough and the craft is hit. Now adrift in space the astronauts struggle to survive in the most hostile environment for humans. There are over five hundred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Sexuality is Socially Constructed Essay From birth, one s sexuality is shaped by society. Cultures institute behaviors that are to be seen as the societal norms, which work to constantly reinforce societal expectations of how genders should act in relation to one another. Although some may argue that one s sexuality is an innate characteristic resulting from genetic makeup, there is a large amount of evidence pointing to its social construction instead. Through the power differences between males and females, established gender roles, and drastic economic shifts, society establishes sexuality and reinforces the behaviors that are expected of its citizens. As Tamsin Wilton explains in her piece, Which One s the Man? The Heterosexualisation of Lesbian Sex, society has fronted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilton later describes how, by turning away from the heterosexual male female institution, women are taking a crucial step on the path of liberation. Although a woman may be content having relations with a male, the male s dominant role in society should be enough persuasion for the former to leave such structured relationship so as to explore a freer partnership that goes against societal expectations. Wilton refers to Monique Wittig, a French author and feminist theorist, who states our survival demands that we contribute all our strength to the destruction of the class of women within which men appropriate women. Thus, Wittig expresses that heterosexuality is a social system (Wilton 165). Why heterosexuality is forced upon the majority, however, is still unclear. Emily Martin, in her article, The Egg and the Sperm: How Science has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles, explains why this is so. Procreation can only occur upon the union of sperm and egg and their behaviors have created stereotypes which imply not only that female biological processes are less worthy than their male counterparts but also that women ... After this Marshall starts to talks about the question that is raised. This question is is God reveals himself in different ways, and can one of these ways be in the Bible? This concept is also appropriate when reading and analyzing literature. Whether this literature is analogous or extremely disparate to another, the reader s perspective shifts. After reading How to Pull an All Nighter, by Joshua Piven, David Borgenicht, and Jennifer Worwick, and The Economist s Higher Education: Not What It Used to Be, I quickly noticed an interesting juxtaposition between the two. There are several reasons why the US industry acted with caution. First of all, positive trade agreements were already in place from the 1992 trade agreement. The industry probably thought it should wait longer to ensure things worked out on their own before allowing politicians to intervene and make changes. If politicians had caused things to go south, which they inevitably do, these agreements would have been jeopardized. Secondly, the industry was practicing risk management. Monarchy. There are two types of monarchy one is a constitutional monarchy and the other is absolute monarchy. Absolute monarchs are really all powerful, they are able to pass laws and veto any law passed or suggested by politicians, a constitutional monarch has less power and is really only a figurehead as a head of state. In Ancient Greece there were not really a lot of monarchies, there was of course Sparta with its unique two King system. The two Kings come from the direct descendants of the founders of Sparta, they weren t really absolute monarchs because they had the ephors stopping them from taking too many decisions that could be harmful to the state (Cartwright, 2013). There were other monarchies in the times of Ancient Greece, most notably Macedonia, that went on to conquer Greece in 336 BCE (Brand, n.d. ,p36). Aristocracy. This was the rule of a few elite people. They were always the richest people and what we would call today the Lords or Ladies. They were the highest of the upper classes. • 22. Postpartum Depression During The Postpartum Period The postpartum period is about going through change and transition from a woman to a new mother. This is a time where mothers restore muscle tone and connective tissue in the body after the birth of the baby. Although there is a dramatic change during the postpartum period, women s body is nonetheless not fully stored to pre pregnant physiology until about 6 months post delivery (Osailan, 6). At this time, women need to receive special health and social support to prevent problems such as postpartum depression. During this period, culture plays a major role in the way a woman perceives and prepares for her birthing experience. In fact, the notions of birth and postnatal care vary considerably with cultural beliefs and traditional practices. Each culture has its own values, beliefs and practices related to pregnancy and birth (Osailan,1). In the United States, after a short hospital stay, moms and babies are sent home because it is expected for mothers to heal within 42 days after giving birth. Whereas in other societies like Mexico, the postpartum recovery is active long enough until the new mother is fully healed (Brenhouse). In the article, Why Are America s Postpartum Practices So Rough on New Mothers? by Hilary Brenhouse, the author states, With these rituals comes an acknowledgment, familial and federal, that the woman needs relief more at this time than at any other especially if she has a career to return to and that it takes weeks, sometimes months, to properly ... Fun with Dick and Jane Essay Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) Starring: Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, and Alec Baldwin In need of some light hearted entertainment and a good laugh, I chose the movie Fun with Dick and Jane for this assignment. Fun with Dick and Jane asks the common question, What is the difference between a corporate crook and a bank robber? The movie opens with Dick leaving his home in the picture perfect neighborhood in the year 2000. Dick is married to Jane and they have a son who is more or less being raised by the housekeeper, Blanca. For one short lived moment, Dick contemplates prostituting Jane for income but of course because this is a light hearted comedy Jane becomes furious with this suggestion. Not long after her outrage she turns to burglary willingly. Burglary, just like prostitution, is illegal, immoral, and demoralizing. Unlike prostitution, which is a misdemeanor, burglary is a felony. These two criminals are portrayed as good people just trying to feed their son and keep their house, yet the same good guys in the audience who would frown on prostitution, enthusiastically support burglary as a practical comedic maneuver. Yet, if Dick and Jane are on the path of immorality, as conveyed by their society s parameters, they might as well have went with prostitution as a way to make money. With Jane being such an amazing looking woman, she could have easily earned thousands of dollars a day escorting swanky businessmen, thus attaining the goal of quick cash less unlawfully. The movie snidely communicates to us that dressing up as Sonny and Cher to commit armed robbery, or taking your neighbor s car and driving it through a jewelry store window is less shameful than selling your body. The definition of robbery is the act of robbing from a person or presence of another by violence or threat which is considered a felony; prostituting or escorting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Enemy Of The People Character Analysis The Plot of An Enemy of the People Majority of the good stories begin with a crucial list of the ingredients such as the initial situation, the conflict, the complication, the climax, the suspense, the denouement as well as the conclusion. An Enemy of the People by Ibsen Henrik is a play that encompasses all these ingredients. The drama takes the form of a unified plot since it has a chronological order of events from the beginning to the end. In this paper, I will analyze the plot of this drama play by specifically examining the plot type, plot action and how in overall the plot is structured. At the start of the drama, everything appears hunky dory as every individual has a higher expectation of the Baths to generate a lot of money for the town. Dr. Stockman, the protagonist, is surrounded by families and friends who all appear to love him. Definitely, there is some sibling rivalry that is taking place with the mayor, Peter Stockman who is his brother. However, the thing looks fine ultimately, then Dr. Stockman announces a discovery that he has determined from his investigation that Municipal`s Baths are actually contaminated with a bacteria. He emphasizes that if there is nothing that is done to restore the situation, the water that is meant to heal the people will instead make them sick (Ibsen 17). Upon this discovery, all the supposed friends of Dr. Stockman congratulate him and praise him calling him a hero. All this is happening during the initial situation before the conflict is reached. During the conflict, Peter Stockman who is the mayor of the town brings bad news to Dr. Stockman but Dr. Stockman swears to safeguard this news. Amidst this crisis, both Hovstad and Aslaksen show up and promise to offer their support to Dr. Stockman. Dr. Stockman at first does not perceive the big deal concerning the discovery. He is convinced from his laboratory findings that the water is actually poisoned and that everybody wants this situation fixed. There is a lot of thinking that goes into deciding what you want to study and what you want to become in the future. Most people are not positive even once they have entered college as to what it is for sure they want to do. This MyPlan assessment was extremely informative in what my skills were and how I could use them. Going to the Career Center on February 5 really helped me to understand what my results meant and what I could take out of this assessment. We took four tests, a personality, personal interest, skills, and values test. For my personality test report, there were 4 different categories looked at to come up with a combined census of what my personality is. You were either, extroverted or introverted, sensor or intuitive, thinker or feeler, and judger or perceiver. My results showed that I was ESTJ. Which means that I am extroverted, sensor, thinker, and a judger. Extroverts basically respond very well to social gatherings and like to be around people. They are usually very talkative and tend to work well in teams. Sensors seek specific answers to specific questions. Usually they do not have a very wide imagination and are more realistic. Thinkers believe that it is important to be right and honest with themselves than it is to be liked. A thinker seeks fairness and tend to be tough minded. I had a sister named Susan, she was a pretty lady like you. she mused. I smiled and said thank you, Miss Julie. Then turned back to my sister, with whom I was trying to engage in conversation, to get her out of her own fantasy world. Essay and referencing Introduction The three communication theories I have applied to provide the most insight into understanding the dynamics of the observed conversation between two people are; the transmission model (Shannon Weaver 1949), Foulger s ecological model (Foulger 2004), and an expanded model of communication (Eunson 2012). In this essay I have used a conversation I had listened to which was between my friend (from here on will be named George) and his friend (from here on will be named Mark). Problems that arose during the conversation will be explained as well as how George and Mark overcame them. From there the essay will compare and contrast the three communication theories and decide which of these best simplify the conversation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figure 2: An Ecological Model of the Communication (Source: Foulger 2004) Eunson s expanded model of communication is more complex than Foulger s as well as Shannon and Weaver s models, though it is more appropriate to this conversation had between George and Mark due to the fact it shows that in order for the communication to happen the sender must pre edit and then encode the message pass the message onto the receiver where he decodes and edits the message. Eunson also takes into account the use of mechanical, behavioural and semantic factors of encoding, and understands that if the message is to be understood the receiver must be able to decode the message. This is particularly relevant, and highly important to this conversation between George and Mark due to the factors mentioned before. Context Figure 3: An expanded model of communication (Source: Eunson 2012) Conclusion I have found Shannon and Weavers transactional model too simple and cannot evaluate the complexities of this situation, and that Foulger s model too broad and not able to focus on the problems that need to be addressed. Therefore, I believe that Eunson s expanded model of communication is the most adequate to use out of the three models that were written about because Eunson s model has shown how a message from George is first pre edited ... • 40. Family And Family Analysis The institution of a family can be viewed as the backbone of society by having a major role in the functioning of society. It is considered to have many essential functions like reproduction, socializing children, providing care and support, regulating sexual relationships, etc. Creating an infant is the beginning of how a family is significant in the functioning of society. The family then provides safety and economic stability for the child. The social norms, behaviors, and culture are then taught and learned by the child through exposure from peers and the environment. As the child continues to grow, the family is constantly giving the child love and support while the child learns his or her self identity. The cycle of socialization, passing along culture, and providing guidance of self purpose then continues from generation to generation. Families were essentially the main economic unit of society, however, that was before industrialization. Depending on the society and culture, the roles within the family can vary based on gender, class, and race. After industrialization, it was believed that men were the ones that should earn the money away from the household while the women took care of their children and house. Margaret L.
