A Response To Politics And The English Language
A Response to Politics and the English Language In his essay Politics and the English language , he
states multiple examples of how politicians use the English Language against civilians. When he
wrote this essay, the people surrounding him were overcoming World War II. Due to the timing this
issue wasn t as important to them as it was for Orwell. He wanted people to understand the real threat
Politicians were having on their population. He emphasizes that politicians have learned the best way
to manipulate the general population. They used language that was extremely complicated and
unnecessary in order to control the way we think, talk, and act. Since no one had any idea what these
politicians were talking about; the only reasonable thing to do was to just listen and believe what they
told us. This is why George Orwell felt it necessary to spread his message, even if the main focus was
on overcoming World War II. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first example given is dying metaphors. Orwell believes that most writers use this method to save
time during their writing. Others examples in the text are operators and pretentious diction. Both of
these causes an increased amount of vagueness. The last example he gives is Meaningless words.
Meaningless word are words that have no overall meaning. Due to so many politicians and other
writers using these forms of writing a lot in their essays, or papers, George Orwell blames these
people for the deterioration of the English language. I disagree that the rules Orwell provides in the
essay will fix the entirety of the English

Postman s Analysis of Brave New World
Postman s Analysis of Brave New World
As analyzed by social critic Neil Postman, Huxley s vision of the future, portrayed in the novel Brave
New World, holds far more relevance to present day society than that of Orwell s classic 1984. Huxley
s vision was simple: it was a vision of a trivial society, drowned in a sea of pleasure and ignorant of
knowledge and pain, slightly resembling the world of today. In society today, knowledge is no longer
appreciated as it has been in past cultures, in turn causing a deficiency in intelligence and will to learn.
Also, as envisioned by Huxley, mind altering substances are becoming of greater availability ... Show

Orion Research Paper
The constellation I have chosen to write about is Orion. This is one of the most famous constellations
in the night sky. I chose this one because as I stated, it is very famous, and because it is one of those
constellations that I have seen many times. Orion is a hunter, so the constellation shows a man holding
a club and shield. It is easily recognized by the three stars in a line that form the hunter s belt. The
myth of Orion is an interesting one. Orion was known as a hunter in Greek mythology, and he boasted
that he could defeat and kill any animal on Earth. This greatly angered Gaea, the earth goddess, so she
sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to shoot his arrows through the scorpion s armor, he ran
into the sea to escape. During

change people for the better. In The Jilting of Granny Weatherall , the author s use of flashbacks and

being loving, wise, and hardworking which are shrouded by her ill manner and stubbornness. Through

passing, and having to take care of her children on her own. Many people would have been stuck in

Body Image Concern In Adolescent Girls
Purpose: In the article Net Girls: The Internet, Facebook, and Body Image Concern in Adolescent
Girls Marika Tiggemann, Ph.D. and Amy Slater, Ph.D. (Clin Psych) questioned whether there is a
connection between internet use and adolescent body image concern. These researchers also focused
their study on one specific social networking site, Facebook.
Method:
Researchers in this study grouped together a sample of 1,087 girls aged 13 and 15 who were in the
first two years of high school, 8th and 9th grade. The sample of adolescent girls was selected from 18
different schools across South Australia. In order to make this experiment as diverse as possible, The
Department of Education selected a wide range of adolescent girls that came from different
socioeconomic status. Additionally, they selected students from private and public schooling
(Tiggerman Slater, 2013).
Measures:
Internet Exposure: Adolescent girls were asked how long they spend on the internet each disregarding
hours spent for homework. The answers ranged from 0 6 hours. After measuring everything else the

Mayan Civilization Research Paper
Mayan Civilization
The Mayan Civilization grew to become one of the most advanced civilizations in the Americas. This
civilization was developed by the Maya peoples and was noted for its many advancements in all
categories. The civilization was believed to have been first introduced to the world in 250 A.D. In 900
A.D. the end of the Maya civilization occurred. Even though it wasn t the official end of the
civilization, this time period is when the classical era for the Mayans ended, and many of the Maya
peoples migrated toward Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula The Maya, inhabitants of the Mayan

They were skilled architects, building great cities of stone that remain even a thousand years after their
civilization fell into decline. This allowed for the study of Mayan architecture and culture. The
architecture of the Mayans is one of the last things that is still available for study of the Mayan
culture, as the buildings built by the Mayans were often covered with many stone carvings. These
stone carvings were a way to show the vast history and beliefs of the Maya. Unlike the other early
civilizations the Mayans also decorated with paint and stucco statues. The Maya built pyramids,
temples, palaces, walls, residences and more. The Maya built a great deal of temples and pyramids
allowing archaeologists to realize the importance of religion and sacrifice of the Maya peoples. The
Maya also built their villages in plazas. These plazas are rarely neat and orderly and to some it may
seem as if the Maya built anywhere they pleased. The plazas may have seemed unorderly at a glance,
however the Maya peoples were very wise and built on irregular shaped higher ground in order to
avoid natural disasters such as floods, which was a very common thing in the tropical forests they
settled in. (Christopher Minster). However, even though the architecture was a major contributor to
the popularity of the Mayans, agriculture was perhaps one of the largest reasons they flourished for so

Professional Writing Practitioners in Australia
Solely based on the exceeding statistics it would appear that professional and creative writing fails to
provide a guarantee of employment once a degree has been obtained. Research conducted by Graduate
Careers Australia (2014), emphasises these figures by illustrating where graduates progress to within
specialist employment four months after completion of their degree. The results demonstrated 60.6%
of graduates from a language and literature based degree maintained full time employment after
graduation (Graduate Careers Australia, 2014, 02). This was almost a 5% decline from graduates who
had obtained full time employment in 2012 (GCA, 2013, 02). From the remainder of graduates, 24.7%
had obtained part time or casual work and 14.7% were still seeking employment (GCA, 2014, 02).
From the graduates who obtained degrees in the language and literature sector, 41.1% enrolled in
further full time study after graduation (GCA, 2013, 01). These statistics are focalised on specialist
careers within the industry. However, creative and professional writers in the 21st century are
obtaining more work through freelancing, while maintaining a part time job through embedded
employment. Embedded employees are viewed as outside of the language and literature discipline and
freelancers are recognised as unemployed, therefore displaying the statistics as underreported. Modern
practioners who are self employed, freelance writers depend on a portfolio career (Inkson 2008, 549)

Purpose Of Prayer In Public Schools
My Position
Ever since prayer was eradicated from the public school system, the quality of education has shown a
constant statistical deterioration. Society presumes that the supernatural is nonexistent and that reality
must be a dentist side based solely on man s interpretation. By reentering prayer into school, it would
acknowledge the presence of something higher than man. By granting prayer in school, a crucial
standard is set. It shows students that they are more than just a clump of random cells aimlessly
wandering the earth. Prayer is an action that trumpets that life is more than success. Prayer is heavily
opposed because it serves as an antithesis to the beliefs of those who create the policies for the public
school system (Creation Today). An underlying purpose of public education is to frame honorable
civilians. The majority of the American people are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sensationalized by the media, God was kicked out of the public school (Waggoner). World renowned
evangelicals supposedly applied at the court for appropriately separating church and state. Despite the

case like Engle v. Vitale was expected sooner or later. A law professor and constitutional historian,
Steven Green, talked about how the foundations of the Court s decisions in the second half of the 20th
century were initially laid during the second half of the 19th century (Waggoner). Green says that the
debate over the school was the closest that America had ever come to having a national conversation
about the meaning of the religion clauses of the constitution. There have been attempted to re
introduce the reading of the Bible into schools. The reading of the Bible was still allowed in many of
our nation s public schools but it had become so nonsectarian that many courts ruled that these

The Obstacle Of Organizing Government
The obstacle of organizing government around the environment is that, for the most part, society is too
focused on economic growth for the environment to take a precedent. And, as Leopold notes, land...is
still property (Leopold 218). The environment, or for Leopold the land, is not a global citizen in it of
itself. Rather, the land is merely a tool for the continued economic growth. Since land has limited legal
rights, Leopold sees that humans see no harm in exploiting the environment for capital gain. As such,
granting the environment legal protection would, as Leopold saw it, be a better means of conservation
efforts.
Leopold described a system of ethics that, when applied appropriately, apply to both man and land.
Despite defining an ethic as both a limitation on freedom off action in the struggle for existence and a
differentiation of social from anti social conduct, Leopold saw little difference between an ethological
the former and the philosophical the latter definitions of an ethic (Leopold 217 218). Both definitions
create a sense of cooperation between individuals. However, the issue for the human land relation is
that, currently, ethics is not being applied. The land relation is still strictly economic, entailing
privileges but not obligations (Leopold 218). As Leopold saw it, mankind understands the need for the
natural world, so there exists a limited sense of respect. However, unlike the ethics shared between
human beings, the rights of land are not

the biggest part flows directly into the hands of the Kamprad family members since they are the only

Christian Retirement Beliefs
1. After reading the introduction, my thoughts about my retirement began to flood my mind. I had
never really considered what the retirement ceremony would be like, who would be there or even who
would be the key note speaker. I am half way to my retirement and currently going through a life
struggle that I will only be able overcome with God s love.
I am hoping this study will bring me new Christian ideas regarding work and life. I need to learn how
to let go of the little things and let God be first in everything I do. My vision after doing this study is
having an understanding of the way God can integrate His divine plan in not only one s job but their
entire life. I need a total change in my life, so I am willing to accept the challenge and listen to God.
Believing in His word and staying committed to my goals are of the utmost importance. 2. The word
success means many different things to people. Being successful from a world perspective can mean
that you have made it to the top, you are wealthy and you have done everything that you have wanted

It has been many years since the creation of Facebook and it is difficult to imagine how we lived
without social networks and internet. New technologies changed people and world, it also gave us new

Drug Testing
Mandatory Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients
Introduction
Mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients is a controversial issue. Should the government hold
people accepting government entitlement s accountable for illegal drug use or would this type of
action cross the boundary of civil liberties into an invasion of privacy? The government has a vested
interest in getting welfare recipients back into the working population. Holding welfare recipients
accountable for illicit drug use only ensures the government s monetary investment in human
resources is protected. Mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients would be beneficial to the state
despite its initial cost to initiate the program.

Many citizens thought Florida was the first state to require drug testing for welfare recipients but they
were not. In 1996, Congress said states could test welfare recipients for illegal drug use. In 1999,
Michigan instituted mandatory drug test for all welfare regardless of suspicion. But this kind of testing
was struck down in as unconstitutional, discouraging other states (Bowers, 2011). In 2010, shortly
after taking office, Florida s Governor, Rick Scott proposed a bill to mandate blanket drug testing for
all state cash assistance programs. In 2011, Florida became the first state to pass and fully implement a
bill mandating suspicion less drug screening for all applicants after Michigan s legal loss. Many
people feel the remaining employees are being held to a higher standard than those on welfare. The
American Civil Liberties Union has declared mandatory drug testing by the federal government on
welfare recipients intrudes on the rights of poor citizens. Yet, most working class citizens have to take
drug tests in order to maintain employment. Nearly every profession in the private sector requires drug

Shakespeare s Use of Language, Imagery and Setting to Illuminate Prospero s Journey from Revenge
to Reconciliation
The Tempest opens on a ship at sea caught in a tempestuous storm . This setting would immediately
suggest to the Elizabethan audience, the presence of danger and evil, as they would be familiar with
other Shakespearian plays where storms have been used in this way, for example, Macbeth and King
Lear. The desperate language of the characters in the opening scene would further reinforce the
audience s sense of evil afoot. The panic of the Boatswain is illustrated when he cries A plague upon
this howling and the terror of the passengers down below can be heard as they cry Mercy on us! ...

This very active opening establishes the theme for the play and the audience is left anticipating a story
of revenge and evil.
In Scene II, Shakespeare introduces a contrast to the storm through the setting of the island. At the
time Shakespeare wrote the Tempest, such a setting would have been significant to the audience as
many new lands and cultures were being discovered. These places were surrounded by myth,
superstition and fear of the unknown. The exchange between Miranda and her father Prospero
establishes that this is no ordinary island or plot. Miranda s opening speech suggests that her father
has magical powers, if by your Art, my dearest father, you have put the wild waters in this roar, allay
them . This suggestion that Prospero was responsible for the storm further reinforces the idea
introduced in the previous scene, that he is out for revenge, although the reason for his desire for
revenge is not clear at this point. The island s setting evokes ideas of magic and strange happenings
and suggests to the audience that anything can happen. Miranda s language contains much dark
imagery, which adds to the air of foreboding. Her statement that the sky would pour down stinking
pitch has unnatural overtones, suggesting that this was no normal storm.

Under Armour Kevin Plank History
In 1996, Kevin Plank, a former special teams captain at the University of Maryland had an idea for
clothing that would revolutionize the way athletics would be played. In his days in college playing
football and going through two a days, he knew there had to be a better solution to dealing with

William Durant founded General Motors on September 16, 1908. He was already a leader in
manufacturing horse drawn carriages, so it was only to be expected that his new company would be a
leader in vehicle manufacturing. There was only one company under their name at the beginning, but
the company would go on to have Oldsmobile, Chevy, Hummer, Cadillac, Pontiac, and many more.
With every vehicle and company they added their philosophy became to have a car for every purse
and purpose. In 1927, an advancement came that would shape the way we know cars today, the
Cadillac LaSalle was released. This car featured curves rather than the sharp edges Ford s Model T
people knew. However, an increase in price and competition led to a downsizing of vehicles in the 60
s and 70 s. They searched for ways to use low to unleaded gasoline in their vehicles. General Motors
was the first to offer air bags in the vehicles in 1972. However, as foreign importation began to
increase, GM lost their hold on the American market. During the 80 s and 90 s, General Motors
focused on expanding their market outside of America. In September of 2015, Volkswagen, a
company under General Motors, came out that their cars had violated the Clean Air Act. This scandal
caused a loss in investors, which cause their stock price to go down ( General Motors History Heritage

Shell-Less Egg Lab
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to explore how an organism s internal environment is affected
when exposed to different external environments, the eggs modeling humans.
Testable Question
How much will a shell less egg change in mass if it is soaked in distilled water and Monster Energy
Drink for 30 minutes?
Hypothesis
If a shell less egg is soaked in corn syrup for 30 minutes, then its mass will decrease by 3 grams.
If a shell less egg is soaked in distilled water for 30 minutes, then its mass will not change.
If a shell less egg is soaked in Monster Energy Drink for 30 minutes, then its mass will decrease by 5

Reflection
1.The vinegar is an isotonic environment for the egg. There is already balance in the solutions of these
things. I believe the corn syrup and the monster energy drink weakened the external barrier of the egg,
penetrated the egg through its pores, and caused the egg to release its contents, which decreased its
mass. I think the distilled water wasn t strong enough to negatively weaken the egg s barrier, but
actually strengthen the egg by penetrating to a safe extent, therefore providing benefits .
2.Corn syrup and the energy drink caused the egg mass change percentages of 5.8% and 1.6%, while
distilled water caused an increase of 2.9%. If external environments didn t affect internal
environments, then these results would be flat. Also, after the experiment, our eggs looked plumper
than before the experiment.
3.I was surprised that the vinegar didn t cause a change in the egg s mass. Vinegar was the most acidic
liquid tested, so this makes me wonder if eggs have the same pH as vinegar. Since vinegar was used to
destroy the shell of the egg, my reasoning was that since the shell is stronger than the inside barrier,
then it will destroy that barrier easily as

Comparing Dostoyevsky s Leviathan And The Grand Inquisitor
Introduction
The books Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes and The Grand Inquisitor by Fyodor Dostoyevsky intensely
discuss the two authors one sided views on what they believe the state of nature is about. They
question whether human beings are authentic or inauthentic before or without having connections to a
political, religious, economic, or social group. In Leviathan, Hobbes writes about his perceptions on
the state of nature. He believes the state of nature is characterized by man against man, [M.A.
Soupios], where every person looks out for themselves and their well being first. This was during a
time where both Hobbes and Dostoyevsky were living in a turmoil century, there were constant and
violent conditions of hate, sneakiness and everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sovereign should have the most power and that every man ought to endeavour peace, as far as he
has hope of obtaining it; and when he cannot obtain it, that he may seek and use all helps and
advantages of war. [p. 190] He strongly believes in control of a higher authority to maintain an ideal
state of nature, he believes that man fears and mistrusts every other man in the real world and that
there is no such thing as injury or justice, he even goes on to state that it is absurd . Hobbes believes
the Law of Nature is that the authority of the sovereign is absolute , in the sense that no authority is
above the sovereign and that its will is law. Hobbes says, that every man has a right to every thing;
even to one another s body. And therefore, as long as this natural right of every man to every thing
endureth, there can be no security to any man. [p.190] In this quote he means that in the state of nature
you have no (human) rights of property, self, and everyone else has a right to what you take as yours.
This goes alongside Hobbes controlled ideological views of an ideal state. Hobbes discuses the mutual
transferring of rights where a social contract subsequently leads man to leave the state of nature, and
enter into a contract to transfer the right to thing, exchanges of goods or land and money. He goes
against this as he feels that man may become dependent on things, subsequently it will threaten and
perhaps collapse the sovereignty because the power of it is compromised and wont be able to protect

Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act
H.R. 3590 (111th): Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
When president Obama was a candidate in the 2008 election he promised wide scale health care
reform that would increase the availability and affordability of medical insurance for a large portion of
the American population. At the time of his campaign, millions of low income Americans were stuck
in the Medicaid gap where they could not afford health insurance, but also were not eligible for the
joint state and federal government Medicaid program. This promise eventually became the bill later
named the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that was passed by the senate on December 24,

Of those people many were considered below the poverty threshold, however due to strict state
regulations these individuals or families did not qualify for insurance through Medicaid. As a result,
when these Americans needed to be seen by doctors, insured tax paying American s would be stuck
with their bills. In order to alleviate this problem, president Obama decided to lead a major campaign
to increase the affordability of health care. Through draft bills in the house and senate, the Affordable
Care Act, commonly referred to as Obama Care, covers a large portion of Americans who before it
became a law would be left without insurance. The bill has two main parts making healthcare
affordable to low income families and increasing the scope of Medicaid eligibility. Before
ObamaCare, families and individuals who were not covered by employers for healthcare had to seek
out insurance on their own. This task proved very difficult as insurance providers charged steep prices
for coverage. In short, health care coverage was not affordable to a large portion of the population.
The law seeks to cover Americans who are between 138% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
They can sign up for Health Care via a government run website, which will allow them to choose a
plan that best suits their needs. A formula will then decide based on their state how much a plan will

with nitrogen immediately before the start of each trial to ensure that diffusion did not begin before
the start of the timer. The information that was recorded for each test included the elapsed time, the

Causes Of Malaria In Africa
1. Why is malaria becoming more prevalent in Nairobi and in the Amazonian Indian villages? (4
points) Malaria is becoming more prevalent in Nairobi and Indian villages in the Amazon because the
of the human changes to ecosystems. In Kenya, malaria is spreading from the countryside to its major
cities from citizens making the move from rural to urban areas. This is occurring because rural areas
are becoming more polluted and less profitable for its inhabitants. These people moving from rural
areas bring with them malaria carrying mosquitos to the shanty towns that surround the city. These
shanty towns contain many gardens that provide the perfect breeding ground for the infected
mosquitos. The introduction of these mosquitos into cities like Nairobi has drastically increased
malaria prevalence in Africa. In South America, the spread of malaria has been linked to the rapid
deforestation that is occurring in the Amazon. Scientist have studied water samples throughout the
malaria hot zones and have found mosquito larvae only in waters that are located in deforested area.
The shift in the ecosystem from rainforest to clear cut cow pasture has allowed for better breeding
condition for mosquitos. These conditions in deforested areas have caused a massive up rise in the
number of malaria cases in the region. 2. What is the cause of diseases like diarrhea and cholera?

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Social Psychology
Social Psychology Assignment 1 There are 3 basic research methods that social psychologists use to
describe behaviors. Each of these have both strengths and weaknesses. The observational method is
done by observing and collecting data which is then used to describe the behavior. The researcher
observes the events in a natural setting so none of the variables are manipulated. There must be
interjudge reliability, meaning that when different researchers administer the same test to the same
subject they each must obtain the same measurement. The advantages in this method is that it is the
simplest method, it has greater accuracy, and it is useful for setting up hypothesis. The weaknesses are
that this method is hard to observe because of privacy and secrecy. It is great for explanation but not
as good for prediction and description. The observer might also be biased being that he has his own
opinion on what is right and wrong. The correlation method focuses on prediction. It is a statistical
measure of two or more variables and the relation between them are assessed. The Correlation
coefficient assesses how well you can predict one variable from another. A positive correlation is when
the value of one variable increases it is associated with the increase of the other variable. For example
height and weight, the more one grows the more he will weigh. A negative correlation is when the
value of one variable increases it is associated with the decrease of the other

Plessy Vs Ferguson Analysis
1. Plessy v. Ferguson was decided after a period of time where African Americans were granted more
rights and freedoms under the law. During Reconstruction (1865 1877), African Americans were
allowed to hold public office and vote. Some areas of the South had African American communities
that were economically sufficient. After reconstruction ended, the white man s government resumed
upon the withdrawal of Northern troops and the assistance of the Freedmen s Bureau. Jim Crow laws
were passed that placed African Americans in a second class citizenship. This flip flop between no
rights (slavery), Reconstruction era rights, and no rights again (Jim Crow) is justifiably frustrating.
The frustration with separate but equal 1896 continued until 1954 when the Brown v. BOE. 1954
marks the beginning of the contemporary Civil Rights Movement. During this time conditions in the
South had come to the point of separate but equal was blatantly not equal and social justice
organizations like the NAACP were pushing harder for justice not only with segregation but all
aspects of injustice in American life. There hadn t been a legitimate enforcement of the equal

Law and the implication of justice are not out of the reach of everchanging societal conditions. The
changing racial climate of both years did affect the court s decisions. Both cases have an argument

facilities by members of different races in violation of the 14th amendment of the US Constitution?
African Americans in 1896 were not seen as full citizens but as second class citizens whose facilities
should reflect their second class status. Simply put, the court rationalized the constitutionality of
separate but equal by saying that legislation cannot change public perception and that the state had
power to do what is best for public

Orville Wright was born in Dayton, Ohio, on August 19, 1871, while Wilbur was born on April 16,

airplane. Neither of them attended college, Wilbur did not go because of a skating accident that he

made with eight years of research, and one thousand dollars. The brothers were inventors throughout

Together, they started the industry of aviation worldwide, and they created the basic laws of

The World Needs Abortion Essay
One of the most important philosophical issues ever concerns the definition of a person and who is
able to feel. Abortion, which is a deliberate termination of pregnancy, is one of the most important
practical applications of that issue. Life on Earth is threatened with destruction from overpopulation
and the poverty that overpopulation causes. Fortunately, abortion can prevent overpopulation. The
question about whether abortion should be done is primarily the question about whether the embryo or
fetus is a person. In most cases, the embryo weighs less than 100grams: less than 10% of human brain.
Abortion should be legal since it is useful and since humans become conscious after birth, not before.
Values for Human Society
People are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an embryo that does not feel is terminated, then the conscious object, a person, is never created. Not
creating a person is not immoral: When people are not having sex, they are not creating a person. If
the society has an optimum population, the net benefit (benefit minus harm) of an extra person will on
average be zero.
Practical Effects of Abortion
The world has a problem of overpopulation, not under population. The environmental problems occur
largely because too many people exist and strain the natural resources. Thus, not creating an extra
person is on average good for the society. (If creating a person would on average be good, then more
people should be created, and the population size is too small, not too large.) In abortion, when a
mother chooses not to create a person, the person is unwanted and thus probably should not be
created.
Much of the poverty found throughout the world is caused by having too many children. Abortion
prevents that and thus reduces poverty. Poverty contributes to crime. Therefore, abortion reduces
crime. Unfortunately, the government in the USA does not support abortion for poor people.
A serious defect in an embryo gives additional reasons for its termination. For example, Down
syndrome is a severe congenital disorder that is a major cause of mental retardation, worldwide.
(Cozic 138) Fortunately, fetal testing (with abortion) can prevent it. If the couple with a defective
embryo is

The Importance Of Student Aid In Education
debate on who should pay our way through college and what student aid is best, but there are a lot of
options. Such as: grants, loans, financial aid, or even parents might decide to pay for their child s way
through college themselves if they are financially able. You might be wondering what is the best
option for you or your child though, and who should pay? Elliot, Gallo, Tilghman and Shirley offer
ideas on what is the best student aid for you or your college bound child. In William Elliot s article,
Are We Getting Our Money s Worth? , he talks more about the lower income students struggling to get
into college because of the fear of debt. Those who use loans to pay their way into college usually end
up in debt because of the interest on the loans and the high college costs, which then causes them to
wanna drop out. As the debt load of matriculated poor and minority students rises, so do their dropout
rates (Elliot p26). The fact is middle and upper income student are able to use student aid to join more
expensive colleges, while low income students are only able to be accepted in less expensive home
state colleges. The American promise is that those who work equally hard will recieve equal rewards.
But the student loan programs may compromise the ability to graduate because of high loans (Elliot
p28). The people of low and high income are not treated equally even if they both work equally hard
in life to succeed and have an education.
Elliot believes, a college

Doppler Effect
Doppler effect
The Doppler effect, named after Christian Doppler, is the change in frequency and wavelength of a
wave as perceived by an observer moving relative to the source of the waves. For waves that
propagate in a wave medium, such as sound waves, the velocity of the observer and of the source are
relative to the medium in which the waves are transmitted. The total Doppler effect may therefore
result from motion of the source, motion of the observer, or motion of the medium. Each of these
effects is analysed separately. For waves which do not require a medium, such as light or gravity in
special relativity, only the relative difference in velocity between the observer and the source needs to
be considered.

As mentioned previously, these two equations are only accurate to a first order approximation.
However, they work reasonably well in the case considered by Doppler, i.e. when the speed between
the source and receiver is slow relative to the speed of the waves involved and the distance between
the source and receiver is large relative to the wavelength of the waves. If either of these two
approximations are violated, the formulae are no longer accurate.
Analysis
It is important to realize that the frequency of the sounds that the source emits does not actually
change. To understand what happens, consider the following analogy. Someone throws one ball every
second in a man s direction. Assume that balls travel with constant velocity. If the thrower is
stationary, the man will receive one ball every second. However, if the thrower is moving towards the
man, he will receive balls more frequently because the balls will be less spaced out. The converse is
true if the thrower is moving away from the man. So it is actually the wavelength which is affected; as
a consequence, the perceived frequency is also affected. It may also be said that the velocity of the
wave remains constant whereas wavelength changes; hence frequency also changes.
If the moving source is emitting waves through a medium with an actual frequency f0, then an
observer stationary relative to the medium detects waves with a frequency f given by [pic]which can

The role of guilds in Medieval Europe played a pivotal part in helping to form part of the economic

created a hierarchy of internal positions among the guild applying a sense of order. These
organizations performed a number of important services for the people of their town which created a

No Better Blues Analysis Essay
This playlist represents the inequality of perception and treatment in the world, and what people can
do to eradicate this hatred and discrimination. No Better Blues, Chance The Rapper: Chance s song,
No Better Blues, satirically juxtaposes each line with hatred to describe things that he is actually quite
fond of. Lately, it seems like people have been hyperbolically negative toward everything. Nearly
every conversation I have is criticizing or complaining about one thing or another. Chance chastises
this by claiming that it don t get no better, and repeating that he hates everything from his kids to
milkshakes. Generally, Chance is a positive person, so it becomes clear that rather than actually hating
everything in his life, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cole: People often derive far too much of their opinion from stereotypical first impressions and
limited perspectives. Not only does this song represent the prejudice that many minority communities
(mainly black) undergo, but it connects to me personally as well. Far too often do people take a single
glance at someone and immediately assume their character based upon pre established stereotypes. In
Neighbors, Cole narrates his experience living in a rich white neighborhood surrounded by the trees
and Ivy League, and how all of the neighbors think I m [he s] sellin dope. Granted, Cole admits that
his friends are stand[ing] outside and pass[ing] cigars filled with marijuana, though. Either way, his
neighbors are simply suspecting that he is selling weed simply because of his, and his friends , skin
color. In my case, people often see me for the first time, and they immediately assume that because of
my long hair and beard that I am simply a no good stoner. Meanwhile, in reality, my grades are
exceptional and I m an intelligent person. What s interesting though, is that Cole somewhat embraces
this perception by declaring, well motherfucker, I am. Cole uses a play on words here to show that he
is indeed sellin dope, but that dope is actually his dope music. He sends out a message to all who are
discriminated against because of their appearance to, rather than ignoring it, embracing their looks and
proving their critics

Output hardware is components of or devices linked to a computer, which allow the computer to
transfer information to another computer system or the user of a computer system (Kroenke pg74).
This output hardware sends information in the form of images, sound, or various other tangible
imagery usually, to some form of input hardware on another system. It is not designed to receive data
only to send. The most familiar of these devices is the visual display or computer monitor. These
monitors are usually synonymous with a computer and every system is equipped with or able to
connect to a Visual Display Unit. Projectors, audio systems, printers, and faxes are all examples of
output hardware. Microsoft Corporation in their endeavors to enhance everyone s life with the aid of
computing software has developed output hardware for the blind or visually challenged. Windows also
offers a function such as video narrator, that provides audio descriptions of videos
(http://Windows.Microsoft.com). In addition to these components windows is compatible with
numerous other programs and hardware components that are designed to enhance the lives of those
who are blind or visually impaired. More recently Microsoft has also included Braille output devises
and other hardware components in their product lines. For a quick reference for Operating Systems

Allusion Of War In The Butter Battle Book
The Butter Battle Book by Dr.Seuss is a deceptively childish book about a war over what side one
should butter their bread. While a good bedtime story, anyone with knowledge of the Cold War will
immediately pick up the similarities between this book and the actual war, along with Dr.Seuss s
message behind the text. His excellent use of craft puts his view across and solidifies what he believes
about the Cold War. Dr.Seuss uses allusions, irony, and hyperboles to portray his beliefs about how
silly the Cold War really was. Dr.Seuss has written books of many colors. Books like Green Eggs and
Ham and Hop on Pop are light hearted, funny, and sometimes completely weird. The Butter Battle
Book is about two different communities torn apart by one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During his allusions to the real world, he constantly slides in just a hint of irony that helps bring out
the main theme he s trying to pass. The first example, You just run to the wall like a nice little man.
Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you can (Seuss 49), is a crystal clear sense of irony. In this
line the leader of the Yooks tells the guard to, as a any gentleman would, calmly drop a bomb on the
enemy. This bit of irony stands out and makes one think about the actual calamity dropping a bomb
would do. The second major piece of irony is different, but has the same meaning overall, That was a
pretty sour flight that you flew. And the Chief Yookeroo has been looking for you! (Seuss 47). In this,
the lead drummer calls the Yook guard s flight a failure, but was it really? He only stepped down in
the book because if he attacked the Zooks his people would have gotten attacked as well, so it was
success in some ways. This irony does the same as the first, forces the reader to think about the
consequences of attacking with retaliation. All in all Dr.Seuss makes great use of irony to make any
reader think about the cause and effects not only in the book but during the Cold War as

Socrates And His Views Of Justice
Joshua Ayen
PHIL100H
Dr. Gottlieb
10/8/14
Socrates and His Views of Justice In Plato s The Republic, there are several accounts of justice that
are presented throughout the dialogue, especially in Book I. One of these accounts is presented by
Socrates, in which he believes that justice is not harming anyone under any circumstances. Socrates
first presents this argument when he questions if it is just to treat anyone badly (335b). Polemarchus,
based on his account of justice in which justice is treating friends well and harming enemies (332d)
believes that it is okay to hurt people (335b). Socrates then brings up examples of what happens when
a horse, dog, and person are treated poorly (335b c). In all these cases, Socrates points out that it
worsens them. Afterwards, when taking into account that justice is a human excellence, (335c)
Socrates says that members of the human race who are treated badly must necessarily become more
unjust. Therefore, based on that reasoning, Socrates presents a fundamentally valid argument. In
theory, Socrates s claim that it is not just to treat anyone badly under any circumstances is sound
because not one person or creature deserves bad treatment, no matter the past unjust actions or
decisions that person/creature has done in the past. However, it is difficult to put it into practice
because of emotion. To defend this argument made by Socrates, I will go more in depth about two
points that were brought about him: If it really is just

Car After Car Research Paper
The Beginning When I was sixteen years I did not expect a car from my parents. Both my parents
never got a car from their parents. I expected to have me drive the minivan until Mom didn t want it
anymore and it d become mine. And it was mine, for a while. I hated every minute of it. I worked two
jobs during that year of high school to get my own car; one as a lifeguard and the other with a
landscaping company. I saved my money until had a couple thousand dollars in my bank account. I
started looking online for a set of wheels that didn t have giant sliding doors on the side. I found a
number of potential vehicles, a silver 2003 Jaguar with no reverse, a 2001 black Jeep Cherokee with
no backseat, a 2000 blue Taurus with 200,000 miles on it, all potential winners. Anything to get me
out of the mom van. I showed my parents car after car after car. I think they started to relive that what
I could afford wasn t a vehicle they d ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like any teenage guy, you rag on your buddy s car no matter what it is. If it was a piece, you d say it
was a piece, if it was a girl s car, you d say it was, and so on. No matter how much more gas mileage
you got or how little repairs you needed, it didn t matter. Unless you had a lifted truck you ve been
working on since you were thirteen or mommy and daddy bought you a BMW, your car most likely
got the tail end of many jokes.
The Relationship I honestly love my car. I love that I worked hard and paid it off early on. I love that
in 2007 Ford started adding Aux input jacks to their car s dashboard. Music is major source of
inspiration and a major influence on my life. With over 10,000 songs on my iPod, Betsy has probably
heard them all; including my added horrible singing renditions. I love my 1989 Michael Keaton
Batman sticker on the back window. I love the backseats and how comfortable they are to sleep on. I
love the memories I have down by the lake, on top of the car, star watching with

The Pros And Cons Of The CIA
The CIA, otherwise known as the Central Intelligence Agency, is a federal agency that is independent
and has the responsibilities of providing the country of the United States with national security
intelligence. The CIA is in charge of gathering information that is going on from other countries in
order to help our own national security to become stronger, and to be able to protect the citizens of the
United States better. However, what happens when the CIA tries to protect it s citizens by screwing
over other countries? What happens when the CIA is responsible for destroying other countries
governments or placing leaders where we do not belong as a country to try and control politics that we
should not even be involving ourselves in. While the CIA is meant to have good intentions for
providing our country with national security, a lot of times the United States is responsible for
meddling in affairs we never belonged in which cause harm, devastation, or death to the countries we
force ourselves upon. In early 1951, the nationalization of Iran s oil industry by Mosaddegh was the
trigger for the United Kingdom to begin discussion with the United States to overthrow Mosaddegh
and return the power to the shah. When the coup attempt was thwarted, the CIA decided to call off
continuing with the operation because they did not want it to get traced back to the United States.
However, Kermit Roosevelt believed that the United States should not be done interfering with Iran,

  • 2. A Response To Politics And The English Language A Response to Politics and the English Language In his essay Politics and the English language , he states multiple examples of how politicians use the English Language against civilians. When he wrote this essay, the people surrounding him were overcoming World War II. Due to the timing this issue wasn t as important to them as it was for Orwell. He wanted people to understand the real threat Politicians were having on their population. He emphasizes that politicians have learned the best way to manipulate the general population. They used language that was extremely complicated and unnecessary in order to control the way we think, talk, and act. Since no one had any idea what these politicians were talking about; the only reasonable thing to do was to just listen and believe what they told us. This is why George Orwell felt it necessary to spread his message, even if the main focus was on overcoming World War II. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postman s Analysis of Brave New World Postman s Analysis of Brave New World As analyzed by social critic Neil Postman, Huxley s vision of the future, portrayed in the novel Brave New World, holds far more relevance to present day society than that of Orwell s classic 1984. Huxley s vision was simple: it was a vision of a trivial society, drowned in a sea of pleasure and ignorant of knowledge and pain, slightly resembling the world of today. In society today, knowledge is no longer appreciated as it has been in past cultures, in turn causing a deficiency in intelligence and will to learn. I chose this one because as I stated, it is very famous, and because it is one of those constellations that I have seen many times. Orion is a hunter, so the constellation shows a man holding a club and shield. It is easily recognized by the three stars in a line that form the hunter s belt. The myth of Orion is an interesting one. Orion was known as a hunter in Greek mythology, and he boasted that he could defeat and kill any animal on Earth. This greatly angered Gaea, the earth goddess, so she sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to shoot his arrows through the scorpion s armor, he ran into the sea to escape. During ... • 10. Professional Writing Practitioners in Australia Solely based on the exceeding statistics it would appear that professional and creative writing fails to provide a guarantee of employment once a degree has been obtained. Research conducted by Graduate Careers Australia (2014), emphasises these figures by illustrating where graduates progress to within specialist employment four months after completion of their degree. The results demonstrated 60.6% of graduates from a language and literature based degree maintained full time employment after graduation (Graduate Careers Australia, 2014, 02). This was almost a 5% decline from graduates who had obtained full time employment in 2012 (GCA, 2013, 02). From the remainder of graduates, 24.7% had obtained part time or casual work and 14.7% were still seeking employment (GCA, 2014, 02). From the graduates who obtained degrees in the language and literature sector, 41.1% enrolled in further full time study after graduation (GCA, 2013, 01). These statistics are focalised on specialist careers within the industry. However, creative and professional writers in the 21st century are obtaining more work through freelancing, while maintaining a part time job through embedded employment. • 13. The Obstacle Of Organizing Government The obstacle of organizing government around the environment is that, for the most part, society is too focused on economic growth for the environment to take a precedent. And, as Leopold notes, land...is still property (Leopold 218). The environment, or for Leopold the land, is not a global citizen in it of itself. Rather, the land is merely a tool for the continued economic growth. Since land has limited legal rights, Leopold sees that humans see no harm in exploiting the environment for capital gain. As such, granting the environment legal protection would, as Leopold saw it, be a better means of conservation efforts. Leopold described a system of ethics that, when applied appropriately, apply to both man and land. Despite defining an ethic as both a limitation on freedom off action in the struggle for existence and a differentiation of social from anti social conduct, Leopold saw little difference between an ethological the former and the philosophical the latter definitions of an ethic (Leopold 217 218). Both definitions create a sense of cooperation between individuals. However, the issue for the human land relation is that, currently, ethics is not being applied. The land relation is still strictly economic, entailing privileges but not obligations (Leopold 218). As Leopold saw it, mankind understands the need for the natural world, so there exists a limited sense of respect. However, unlike the ethics shared between human beings, the rights of land are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shakespeare s Use of Language, Imagery and Setting to Illuminate Prospero s Journey from Revenge to Reconciliation The Tempest opens on a ship at sea caught in a tempestuous storm . This setting would immediately suggest to the Elizabethan audience, the presence of danger and evil, as they would be familiar with other Shakespearian plays where storms have been used in this way, for example, Macbeth and King Lear. The desperate language of the characters in the opening scene would further reinforce the audience s sense of evil afoot. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This very active opening establishes the theme for the play and the audience is left anticipating a story of revenge and evil. In Scene II, Shakespeare introduces a contrast to the storm through the setting of the island. At the time Shakespeare wrote the Tempest, such a setting would have been significant to the audience as many new lands and cultures were being discovered. These places were surrounded by myth, superstition and fear of the unknown. The exchange between Miranda and her father Prospero establishes that this is no ordinary island or plot. Miranda s opening speech suggests that her father has magical powers, if by your Art, my dearest father, you have put the wild waters in this roar, allay them . This suggestion that Prospero was responsible for the storm further reinforces the idea introduced in the previous scene, that he is out for revenge, although the reason for his desire for revenge is not clear at this point. The island s setting evokes ideas of magic and strange happenings and suggests to the audience that anything can happen. Miranda s language contains much dark imagery, which adds to the air of foreboding. In Leviathan, Hobbes writes about his perceptions on the state of nature. He believes the state of nature is characterized by man against man, [M.A. Soupios], where every person looks out for themselves and their well being first. Hobbes believes the Law of Nature is that the authority of the sovereign is absolute , in the sense that no authority is above the sovereign and that its will is law. Hobbes says, that every man has a right to every thing; even to one another s body. This goes alongside Hobbes controlled ideological views of an ideal state. Hobbes discuses the mutual transferring of rights where a social contract subsequently leads man to leave the state of nature, and enter into a contract to transfer the right to thing, exchanges of goods or land and money. • 30. Causes Of Malaria In Africa 1. Why is malaria becoming more prevalent in Nairobi and in the Amazonian Indian villages? (4 points) Malaria is becoming more prevalent in Nairobi and Indian villages in the Amazon because the of the human changes to ecosystems. In Kenya, malaria is spreading from the countryside to its major cities from citizens making the move from rural to urban areas. This is occurring because rural areas are becoming more polluted and less profitable for its inhabitants. These people moving from rural areas bring with them malaria carrying mosquitos to the shanty towns that surround the city. These shanty towns contain many gardens that provide the perfect breeding ground for the infected mosquitos. The introduction of these mosquitos into cities like Nairobi has drastically increased malaria prevalence in Africa. In South America, the spread of malaria has been linked to the rapid deforestation that is occurring in the Amazon. Scientist have studied water samples throughout the malaria hot zones and have found mosquito larvae only in waters that are located in deforested area. The shift in the ecosystem from rainforest to clear cut cow pasture has allowed for better breeding condition for mosquitos. These conditions in deforested areas have caused a massive up rise in the number of malaria cases in the region. 2. What is the cause of diseases like diarrhea and cholera? • 31. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Social Psychology Social Psychology Assignment 1 There are 3 basic research methods that social psychologists use to describe behaviors. Each of these have both strengths and weaknesses. The observational method is done by observing and collecting data which is then used to describe the behavior. The researcher observes the events in a natural setting so none of the variables are manipulated. There must be interjudge reliability, meaning that when different researchers administer the same test to the same subject they each must obtain the same measurement. The advantages in this method is that it is the simplest method, it has greater accuracy, and it is useful for setting up hypothesis. The weaknesses are that this method is hard to observe because of privacy and secrecy. It is great for explanation but not as good for prediction and description. The observer might also be biased being that he has his own opinion on what is right and wrong. The correlation method focuses on prediction. It is a statistical measure of two or more variables and the relation between them are assessed. The Correlation coefficient assesses how well you can predict one variable from another. A positive correlation is when the value of one variable increases it is associated with the increase of the other variable. For example height and weight, the more one grows the more he will weigh. During Reconstruction (1865 1877), African Americans were allowed to hold public office and vote. Some areas of the South had African American communities that were economically sufficient. After reconstruction ended, the white man s government resumed upon the withdrawal of Northern troops and the assistance of the Freedmen s Bureau. Jim Crow laws were passed that placed African Americans in a second class citizenship. The frustration with separate but equal 1896 continued until 1954 when the Brown v. BOE. 1954 marks the beginning of the contemporary Civil Rights Movement. Abortion, which is a deliberate termination of pregnancy, is one of the most important practical applications of that issue. Life on Earth is threatened with destruction from overpopulation and the poverty that overpopulation causes. Fortunately, abortion can prevent overpopulation. The question about whether abortion should be done is primarily the question about whether the embryo or fetus is a person. In most cases, the embryo weighs less than 100grams: less than 10% of human brain. Abortion should be legal since it is useful and since humans become conscious after birth, not before. Not creating a person is not immoral: When people are not having sex, they are not creating a person. If the society has an optimum population, the net benefit (benefit minus harm) of an extra person will on average be zero. Practical Effects of Abortion The world has a problem of overpopulation, not under population. The environmental problems occur largely because too many people exist and strain the natural resources. Thus, not creating an extra person is on average good for the society. (If creating a person would on average be good, then more people should be created, and the population size is too small, not too large.) In abortion, when a mother chooses not to create a person, the person is unwanted and thus probably should not be created. Much of the poverty found throughout the world is caused by having too many children. Abortion prevents that and thus reduces poverty. Poverty contributes to crime. Therefore, abortion reduces crime. Unfortunately, the government in the USA does not support abortion for poor people. A serious defect in an embryo gives additional reasons for its termination. Such as: grants, loans, financial aid, or even parents might decide to pay for their child s way through college themselves if they are financially able. You might be wondering what is the best option for you or your child though, and who should pay? Elliot, Gallo, Tilghman and Shirley offer ideas on what is the best student aid for you or your college bound child. In William Elliot s article, Are We Getting Our Money s Worth? , he talks more about the lower income students struggling to get into college because of the fear of debt. Those who use loans to pay their way into college usually end up in debt because of the interest on the loans and the high college costs, which then causes them to wanna drop out. As the debt load of matriculated poor and minority students rises, so do their dropout rates (Elliot p26). The fact is middle and upper income student are able to use student aid to join more expensive colleges, while low income students are only able to be accepted in less expensive home state colleges. The American promise is that those who work equally hard will recieve equal rewards. But the student loan programs may compromise the ability to graduate because of high loans (Elliot p28). • 39. Doppler Effect Doppler effect The Doppler effect, named after Christian Doppler, is the change in frequency and wavelength of a wave as perceived by an observer moving relative to the source of the waves. For waves that propagate in a wave medium, such as sound waves, the velocity of the observer and of the source are relative to the medium in which the waves are transmitted. The total Doppler effect may therefore result from motion of the source, motion of the observer, or motion of the medium. Each of these effects is analysed separately. For waves which do not require a medium, such as light or gravity in special relativity, only the relative difference in velocity between the observer and the source needs to be considered. [pic] [pic] A source of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned previously, these two equations are only accurate to a first order approximation. However, they work reasonably well in the case considered by Doppler, i.e. when the speed between the source and receiver is slow relative to the speed of the waves involved and the distance between the source and receiver is large relative to the wavelength of the waves. If either of these two approximations are violated, the formulae are no longer accurate. Analysis It is important to realize that the frequency of the sounds that the source emits does not actually change. To understand what happens, consider the following analogy. Someone throws one ball every second in a man s direction. Assume that balls travel with constant velocity. If the thrower is stationary, the man will receive one ball every second. However, if the thrower is moving towards the man, he will receive balls more frequently because the balls will be less spaced out. The converse is true if the thrower is moving away from the man. So it is actually the wavelength which is affected; as a consequence, the perceived frequency is also affected. It may also be said that the velocity of the wave remains constant whereas wavelength changes; hence frequency also changes. If the moving source is emitting waves through a medium with an actual frequency f0, then an observer stationary relative to the medium detects waves with a frequency f given by [pic]which can be written ... This story has about the same plot as that of the Matrix; it asserts that Once you have tasted the truth; you won t ever want to go back to being ignorant. (Allegory of the Cave). Consumers and members of the guild would also be protected under a number of policies guaranteeing overall social happiness. • 43. No Better Blues Analysis Essay This playlist represents the inequality of perception and treatment in the world, and what people can do to eradicate this hatred and discrimination. No Better Blues, Chance The Rapper: Chance s song, No Better Blues, satirically juxtaposes each line with hatred to describe things that he is actually quite fond of. Lately, it seems like people have been hyperbolically negative toward everything. Nearly every conversation I have is criticizing or complaining about one thing or another. Chance chastises this by claiming that it don t get no better, and repeating that he hates everything from his kids to milkshakes. Generally, Chance is a positive person, so it becomes clear that rather than actually hating everything in his life, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cole: People often derive far too much of their opinion from stereotypical first impressions and limited perspectives. Not only does this song represent the prejudice that many minority communities (mainly black) undergo, but it connects to me personally as well. Far too often do people take a single glance at someone and immediately assume their character based upon pre established stereotypes. In Neighbors, Cole narrates his experience living in a rich white neighborhood surrounded by the trees and Ivy League, and how all of the neighbors think I m [he s] sellin dope. Granted, Cole admits that his friends are stand[ing] outside and pass[ing] cigars filled with marijuana, though. Either way, his neighbors are simply suspecting that he is selling weed simply because of his, and his friends , skin color. In my case, people often see me for the first time, and they immediately assume that because of my long hair and beard that I am simply a no good stoner. Meanwhile, in reality, my grades are exceptional and I m an intelligent person. What s interesting though, is that Cole somewhat embraces this perception by declaring, well motherfucker, I am. Cole uses a play on words here to show that he is indeed sellin dope, but that dope is actually his dope music. He sends out a message to all who are discriminated against because of their appearance to, rather than ignoring it, embracing their looks and proving their critics ... • 45. Allusion Of War In The Butter Battle Book The Butter Battle Book by Dr.Seuss is a deceptively childish book about a war over what side one should butter their bread. While a good bedtime story, anyone with knowledge of the Cold War will immediately pick up the similarities between this book and the actual war, along with Dr.Seuss s message behind the text. His excellent use of craft puts his view across and solidifies what he believes about the Cold War. Dr.Seuss uses allusions, irony, and hyperboles to portray his beliefs about how silly the Cold War really was. Dr.Seuss has written books of many colors. Books like Green Eggs and Ham and Hop on Pop are light hearted, funny, and sometimes completely weird. The Butter Battle Book is about two different communities torn apart by one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his allusions to the real world, he constantly slides in just a hint of irony that helps bring out the main theme he s trying to pass. The first example, You just run to the wall like a nice little man. Drop this bomb on the Zooks just as fast as you can (Seuss 49), is a crystal clear sense of irony. In this line the leader of the Yooks tells the guard to, as a any gentleman would, calmly drop a bomb on the enemy. This bit of irony stands out and makes one think about the actual calamity dropping a bomb would do. The second major piece of irony is different, but has the same meaning overall, That was a pretty sour flight that you flew. And the Chief Yookeroo has been looking for you! (Seuss 47). In this, the lead drummer calls the Yook guard s flight a failure, but was it really? He only stepped down in the book because if he attacked the Zooks his people would have gotten attacked as well, so it was success in some ways. This irony does the same as the first, forces the reader to think about the consequences of attacking with retaliation. All in all Dr.Seuss makes great use of irony to make any reader think about the cause and effects not only in the book but during the Cold War as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Socrates And His Views Of Justice Joshua Ayen PHIL100H Dr. Gottlieb 10/8/14 Socrates and His Views of Justice In Plato s The Republic, there are several accounts of justice that are presented throughout the dialogue, especially in Book I. One of these accounts is presented by Socrates, in which he believes that justice is not harming anyone under any circumstances. Socrates first presents this argument when he questions if it is just to treat anyone badly (335b). Polemarchus, based on his account of justice in which justice is treating friends well and harming enemies (332d) believes that it is okay to hurt people (335b). Socrates then brings up examples of what happens when a horse, dog, and person are treated poorly (335b c). In all these cases, Socrates points out that it worsens them. Afterwards, when taking into account that justice is a human excellence, (335c) Socrates says that members of the human race who are treated badly must necessarily become more unjust. Therefore, based on that reasoning, Socrates presents a fundamentally valid argument. In theory, Socrates s claim that it is not just to treat anyone badly under any circumstances is sound because not one person or creature deserves bad treatment, no matter the past unjust actions or decisions that person/creature has done in the past. However, it is difficult to put it into practice because of emotion. To defend this argument made by Socrates, I will go more in depth about two points that were brought about him: If it really is just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Car After Car Research Paper The Beginning When I was sixteen years I did not expect a car from my parents. Both my parents never got a car from their parents. I expected to have me drive the minivan until Mom didn t want it anymore and it d become mine. And it was mine, for a while. I hated every minute of it. I worked two jobs during that year of high school to get my own car; one as a lifeguard and the other with a landscaping company. I saved my money until had a couple thousand dollars in my bank account. I started looking online for a set of wheels that didn t have giant sliding doors on the side. I found a number of potential vehicles, a silver 2003 Jaguar with no reverse, a 2001 black Jeep Cherokee with no backseat, a 2000 blue Taurus with 200,000 miles on it, all potential winners. Anything to get me out of the mom van. I showed my parents car after car after car. I think they started to relive that what I could afford wasn t a vehicle they d ... • 48. The Pros And Cons Of The CIA The CIA, otherwise known as the Central Intelligence Agency, is a federal agency that is independent and has the responsibilities of providing the country of the United States with national security intelligence. The CIA is in charge of gathering information that is going on from other countries in order to help our own national security to become stronger, and to be able to protect the citizens of the United States better. However, what happens when the CIA tries to protect it s citizens by screwing over other countries? What happens when the CIA is responsible for destroying other countries governments or placing leaders where we do not belong as a country to try and control politics that we should not even be involving ourselves in. While the CIA is meant to have good intentions for providing our country with national security, a lot of times the United States is responsible for meddling in affairs we never belonged in which cause harm, devastation, or death to the countries we force ourselves upon. In early 1951, the nationalization of Iran s oil industry by Mosaddegh was the trigger for the United Kingdom to begin discussion with the United States to overthrow Mosaddegh and return the power to the shah. When the coup attempt was thwarted, the CIA decided to call off continuing with the operation because they did not want it to get traced back to the United States. However, Kermit Roosevelt believed that the United States should not be done interfering with Iran, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
