Compare And Contrast Amigos Mexicanos And Mayan Dusk
Amigos Mexicanos and Mayan Dusk are fictional stories written by Juan Villoro. Both stories
had many similarities mainly with both of them having unnamed protagonists as well as both
being written in first person. These stories show a different side of Mexico and Mexican people.
This approach taken by Villoro as well as his style of writing and use of humor gives quite some
insight into Mexican life and Culture. One of the first things that I have noticed whilst reading
these short stories was Villoros interesting use of pronouns. Which was evident more so in Mayan
Dusk . The author starts of by using we which gives a sense of unity. However, as the story
proceeds pronouns begin to change from we to I and it s quite evident that... Show more content on

Shaw was able to equate the success of these films to the new and unconventional approaches taken
by the directors, which mainly showed a more watered down version of Mexico and its culture in
order to attract international audiences. This was seen in Like water for chocolate in its portrayal of
Mexico as an ideal and tourist friendly Mexico. However, in Amores Perros Shaw believed the
vast success was also attributed to the director s focus on making the characters relatable and
familiar. These ideas and motives behind the success of these films was made clear by Shaw s
historical knowledge gave much needed insight into the history of Mexican film. This insight not
only helped in expanding the readers knowledge of Mexican film but it has also helped in linking
Mexican films to the cultrate and identity of the Mexican people. Shaw was also able to give in
depth understsning of films and the way they shape up peoples views. In

Comparing Colonial Government And Government Today
There are many similarities and differences between the colonial government and government
today. When comparing them, you will find that not a lot has changed. From then to now, there has
been advances and new ideas. Despite the changes or advances, certain things never advanced or got
changed , some ideas were left behind. What has not changed? What has changed and what makes
them different rather than similar? What was colonial governmenteven like? The colonial
government had governors. Governors had the final decision and could persuade assemblies to
do what they wanted by disobeying a not paying their salaries. Colonial Governors had an
advisory council, colonial assemblies, colonial courts, and town meetings. The advisory council
would get together with Virginia Assembly (or VA) to create or select VA s houses. One house
was called Council of State and the other, House of Burgesses. This was a bicameral legislature
which was the lawmaking group or body with two houses. Colonial assemblies would do the same.

What is it like? Government today is a lot like England s Parliament. A Parliament is the
England s legislature. There are two houses in government today called the House of
Representatives and the Senate. The American Parliament is called Congress. Congress is the
lawmaking body just like the Parliament is. Congress has the authority to create a law from a
bill. Members can discuss problems and/or solutions that may help society. If they form a bill to
attempt to find a solution, they can present it to all of the Congress members in efforts to make it
a law. If they don t approve, the law can die. Once a bill dies, members can rewrite the bill until
Congress approves. If and when Congress approves, it then has to complete the final steps to
become an official law. These final steps may include, getting ratified and getting

Myths And Mythology In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopid And...
Myth and Mythology have always been among the elements which shape the lives of individuals
and the working mechanism of societies. Margaret Atwood uses in her works every possible
material that enables one to trace her experiences back to the social, historical, cultural, and natural
aspects of her identity . Her familiarity with the Canadian wilderness can be detected in her
employment of nature and animal imagery in her poems and novels. Her novel s The Penelopid

The antagonist s approach to God is manifested through other examples, too: When the protagonist
tells about the fish under the water on their fishing trip she states: I believe in them the way other
people believe in God: I can t see them but I know they are there (Surfacing 71). Atwood s
identification of Christ with animals and plants and her identification of people, including
Christians, as cannibals of Jesus is an attempt to decentre the origin of both religion and rational

Flannery Wolter s Theory
1.Summary of Wolters Theory
Albert Wolters, in his article Fall from Creation Regained: Biblical Basics for a Reformational
Worldview, describes the whole curse of sin in the human existence by the sequence creation fall
redemption and argues that only God can redeem this currently worldly creation corrupted by evil
as an external parasite in the GodВґs perfectly created earth. In the first part, Wolters explains that
the original plan of God was to make earth to be very good, but then the original sin corrupted this
holy world affecting creation as a whole. (53) This was way, sin corrupted human behavior.
However, the consequences of fall extend further human behavior because sin also corrupted the

Wolters theory applied to The Enduring Chill by Flannery O Connor
AbsuryВґs life is an example of how the fall corrupts life s one and how human s behavior is what
feeds the sin that generates this fall. Asbury has experimented the consequences of sin in his life
through sickness, lack of talent and unhappiness in general.
Given that Absury shares the natural human goal of getting happiness, he tries to feel better
using his owns means. However, he does not achieve it, because he is not aware of the link
between evil and slavery due his pride. His pride made him do not even go to the doctor to save
his own life, because he was convinced that everything that happens to him overcomes doctors
knowledge. Also, he thought that only he could feel better doing something significant before he
died. However, over the time he realized that he was not going to be able to achieve a significant
experience and have the death that he wanted. This story is analogous to human behavior toward
God. Asbury had the opportunity to heal, however he decided not to take it, which caused him a
painful agony. God gives us all the means to be saved, but sometimes our pride makes us not take
them and condemn our lives to sin and

Mexican And Mexican Americans During The War Of Texas And...
The Unit explains the hardships many Mexican and Mexican Americans have carried and continue
to carry till this day due to their ethnicity and roots. The inequality and struggles rooted from the
invasion of Texas and the wrongful won over Mexican territory by the Euro centric American who
then expanded their border down south unjustly colonizing the Northwest of Mexico. Along with
land many Mexicans who resided in this land were now living in among a strange new
government and environment that was once their land. This began the expectation of having
Mexican Americans being able to assimilate into the Euro Centric culture. These assimilations
they were presume to make caused for many to lose touch of their own culture. Mexican
Americans continued to be oppressed even when serving their own country. Many young Mexican
Americans turned to joining the military due to financial hardships, like many due this day.
Although these young men were risking their life they were still wrongfully treated and racially
discriminated while in service. Having men risking their life for a country and still be
discriminated because of their ethnicity shows how progressed the hatred for Mexicans was
developed. The recognition and triumph of many Mexican American soldiers went
unacknowledged due to their ethnicity. Mexican Americans were also labeled as criminals and
murders due to media and their portrayal of Mexicans. Also, the meaning of being called a Chicano

Synthesis Essay on Indocumented Immigrants in the US
In my ENC 1101 class, we were required to go through several of processes to map out the
formula of writing our final assignment in our class: a synthesis essay. The most imperative part
of our assignment was to choose a synthesis essay question on a list that our professor gave us.
The second most vital ingredient in the formula was to choose two texts from our Allyn Bacon
Guide to Writing book which would be the backbone of our synthesis essay that we would have to
expand on and create our own ideas from. The question that I choose to further my vague
knowledge on immigrationwas: What should the United States do to make progress in solving the
problem of undocumented immigration? The texts and ideas that I write about to answer my... Show

Seeing the many sides of the immigration conflict, I believe the Congress should allow
undocumented immigrants to live in America, but they must show that they are an asset to
America. Despite the fact that Williams writes for a call to action for the resolution of
immigration in the United States, his article is a blog article written for his blog followers.
Williams article is not intended for scholarly audiences, while Hanson s article is. Hanson s
article is published on the History News Network, which requires great thought and reviewing,
whereas Williams is just required to write an article and post on the Huffington Post in his
profile, without an editor to review the contents of the article. Williams is free to voice his
opinion in whichever language he desires due to it being a blog article, and Hanson is not.
However, due to this being so, Hanson s article proves to more credible that Williams article,
especially due to the fact that Hanson is a military historian and political essayist. But, Williams
article provides pathos in his article by including a personal anecdote in the introduction of it. The
anecdote transcends the article to his purpose of explaining the political part of the immigration
issue, making his standpoint and call to action clear. But then again, Hanson writes with logos,

David And Noah Research Paper
Then the LORD said to Moses, Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I
have made a covenant with you and with Israel. (Exodus 34:27). From the very beginning,
covenants have been the promises that eternally bond relationships. Biblical characters have
demonstrated to us the journey to becoming a person of covenant, as well as the hardships that
come with it. Their developing relationships with God still exhibit modern day covenants we are
also cultivating with the Lord. After examining David and Noah s covenants with God, I am
realizing that my covenant relationship with the Lord is like theirs in the sense that I often
inconsiderately stray from God s path, but progressively become more on track as God further

Starting off, King David tells his servant, Peter, that he wants to build a temple for God. He
states, Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent. (2 Sam 7:1).
It is evident that David has good intentions, but this is not the path that God intended! God
knows David s purposes, and tells Nathan the prophet, I have not dwelt in a house from the day
I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day... did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I
commanded to shepherd my people Israel, Why have you not built me a house of cedar? (2
Samuel 7:6 7). It is very clear that David is not exactly where God wanted him to be. David
thinks he is helping God by building him a temple, but in reality, it is offending the Lord. God is
the real king, not David, and it is evident that the Lord want to be universal, not stationary in a
temple. Although He has good aims, David is not going in God s direction. This story is
relatable, as I often do not pay attention to the purposes God has for me, instead I focus on the
ones I have for him. Similar to David, I sometimes forget that the Lord desires to provide me with
strength, and I cannot attempt to be inferior to Him. When God has

Aquapentaamminecobalt Synthesis Lab Report
Introduction: The compound aquapentaamminecobalt(III) Nitrate, [Co(NH3)5OH2] NO3, is a
metal complex bonded to the molecule nitrate to attain a neutral charge. The synthesis of this
molecule is a more complex one, requiring the recrystallization of an intermediate species. When
the complex has been formed and isolated via filtration, the complex can be reacted with various
aqueous solutions, one being dimethyl sulfoxide, C2H6OS. When reacted these reagents form the
compound Co(NH3)5(OS(CH3)2)3+, H2O, and NO3 , though not inn this ratio. Specifically the
aquapentaamminecobalt(III) molecule can be used to study the sixth coordination site on the
molecule where the later is bound. Because of the weaker bond between the cobalt ionand the water

From this point in the lab, we could make no real predictions about the composition of the
products or the mechanisms of the reactions. This is also most likely the reason for such a low
yield and strange coloration. Other sources of error include poor transfer of the crude product
from filter paper to flask for recrystallization, as some of the product was lost in the transfer,
lessening the yield. Also, when the 0.75 mL of the 16 M nitric acid was added, the pH, instead of
becoming neutral, resulted in a pH of 1, in effect burning the product. This may also be a reason for
the color of the final product. In conclusion, this lab was a failure. Not only was the yield very
small upon inspection, but the product s composition was unknown due to the unknown solution.
Given the nature of the lab, little yield was expected and observed, making the lab itself very
particular in nature. Add to this the addition of the unknown solution and any produce was
astounding. Not only unfortunate, the unknown solution was very dangerous. If it had been some
solution that reacted violently with the reagents, there could have been unforeseen damage done to
the lab and the individuals

Radiation Chavez Experiments
Introduction
In this project we will determine how much radiation Chavez students are consuming daily as
well as annually. In order to find an accurate reading of the amount of radiation consumption we
came up with 10 questions that were crucial to our investigation. Our questions consist of
medical, travel and miscellaneous related objects that disperse radiation. In order for us to get a
more accurate idea of how much radiation students are consuming we made a total of 100
surveys, which were distributed to our Chavez peers. Once we gathered all information we made
precise calculations of each item according to the amount of mREM each item contained. After
that we will be analyzing our data and transfer it to a graph where it will be divided into 3
different sections; that is how we will determine where Chavez students are receiving most of the
radiation from.

People can differentiate between different types of radiation by finding the source of radiation, the
amount of energy being carried, and any particles involved.

he never gives up, I am the same way. We have a lot in common. First of all, Elmer is just exactly
like me in every way possible. He is kind of dumb like me he also does not think before he does
something like, he trips over his feet a lot trying to catch that rabbit. Another thing we got in
common is he gets mad easy like if Buggs Bunny is messing with him and telling him to shoot
him that gets him mad the most. Also when he shoots BOOM! POW! He misses the rabbit and
the rabbit acts like he got shot but he did not kill it. After all, that is a few of the many reasons

Claude MonetAndWaterlilies Or Nympheas
Claude Monet was an artist born in the 19th century. He was well known for being one of the
founders of the art movement know as impressionism. Monet created many art series in which
he would paint one object multiple times, one of his most famous series being waterlilies, which
was created towards the end of his life. The painting I will be talking about today is one of his
many waterlily paintings, painted in 1904, Waterlilies or Nympheas was just one of 250
paintings in this series. The medium is oil paint on canvas and depicts a relaxing scene with
waterlilies on a lake. This piece of art was part of an art period where where it defied social
standards in France and was My first impression of Nympheas is that it s a peaceful scenery, it
was very calming to look at. The first thing that my eyes were drawn to were the waterlilies in
the back because the part of the painting has the most color with: pink, white and green depicting
the different petals floating on the lake. Monet also used colors to help depict natural light, you
can see in the painting that he used darker tones around the middle to juxtapose the waterlilies
showing that is where shade is and having the light hitting the waterlilies making the focal point
or the main focus in the piece stand out more. For example, the lower half of the painting shows
more darker tones whereas the top upper half show more brighter colors used for the waterlilies.
Nympheas gives off many moods, like I said before it was very calming to look at. I imagine the
waterlilies just lightly floating within the lake giving off a relaxed vibe, what gives off this vibe is
that the composition of the painting. The art piece isn t dynamic meaning that there is nothing
showing great movement but the painting isn t static either, I imagine the waterlilies just floating
gently in space. Another thing that stood out to me was the brushstrokes, being able to look at art
pieces at such a close distance is that you re able to visibly see the different brushstrokes that are
made on the canvas. The brush strokes helped create texture with the paint style of impasto, which
is having an excess amount of paint on a brush and leaving thick amounts of paint stay on the canvas

1.Argue that psychology s roots began 2000 years ago. Now argue that they began 200 years ago.
What fields came together to form psychology?
Psychology viewed as an old discipline. Psychology can trace its roots to the 5 century BC to the
Greek philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Socrates, because we grapple with the same
questions they attempted to answer. On the other hand, we could view psychology as emerging
when philosophy and physiology merged to include experimentation and empirical methods to
answer those questions about 200 years ago. Thus, it also viewed as a new discipline in 1879,

David Foster Wallace Commencement Speech Summary
In his Commencement speech at the Kenyon University, David Foster Wallace states that humanity
as a whole is oblivious to the obvious things in life and has a close mindedness that amounts to an
imprisonment so total that the prisoner doesn t even know he s locked up 1. He touches upon this
concept of how people get caught up into the day to day routine of their life and they end up feeling
empty like something essential is missing from their lives that their life becomes unsubstantial, this
is because they are not aware that they are stuck in the default setting.
Because this was a commencement speech for a graduation, Wallace talks about the value of a
liberal arts education. He goes on to say that a liberal arts education is there to teach you how to
think, by instilling the ability to challenge your everyday thought process and not get stuck in what
he calls the default setting. Wallace explains this concept he calls the default setting, which is
basically this sort of natural, basic self centeredness 2. This idea or view of being the center of the
universe, the most important person in existence. A concept such as that is something that people
don t really think about often because it is so natural and instinctual, even right now I am in a
default setting, thinking about how to write this, all the other work that is due, how I wish the line
for food at the commons would move faster, how I wish that the weekend would just arrive

Bp The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Of 2010
Prior to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010, BP had a positive reputation for promoting
corporate sustainability and creating sustainable energy. In the wake of the oil spill, however, BP
proved that it was not on the right track despite the proclamation to its constituents of the exact
opposite. There is a popular adage almost doesn t count. BP s investment in research directed
toward minimizing negative environmental impact while conducting business and accomplishing
major undertakings such as the Forties Field and Trans Alaska pipelines was a move in the right
direction. BP s follow through with the declarations the company made to its stakeholders was
severely lacking, however, and proved to be detrimental. The company admitted to failures and
oversight in its Risk Management sector such as failing to have a remote shut off switch, cutting
corners to save time and money, faulty wiring, a dead battery, a bent pipe, and its failure to closely
monitor a company that had a history of being responsible for other oil spillsand disasters among
other faults. A 166 page report issued in 2014, four years after the spill, determined that both BP

The Human Landscape Of Canada
Human Landscape
Population growth in British Columbia is among the fastest in all of Canada (British Colombia
Environmental Reporting BC, 2016). The current population for B.C. is around 4.4 million
people, which is 13% of Canadas total population (Mandres, 2016). B.C. is a growing population
with an average of 4.8 people per square Km. 60% of the population is located in the South
Western part of the province. This is known as the Georgia Straight Region. This highly populated
area can be seen in red Figure 6. The reason so many people are located in this region is due to the
continued urbanization and high levels of transportation networks. With the high volume of people
living around the heart of the city of Vancouver, this region is a perfect location for domestic and
international business to take place. With subway, train, and highway access the Georgia Straight
Region is an ideal location for commuting workers to live. As seen in Figure 7, the population
density of the Greater Vancouver area has more than 800 people/Km2 and the Greater Victoria area
has a population up to 200 people/Km2. It is a highly integrated system that is connected both with
the various transportation networks but also economically. The cities in British Colombia do not
compete with each other, they work together (Mandres, 2016). With different cities specializing in
different areas of business, mining, and agriculture there are no duplication of functions. An

Poverty And Homelessness
Poverty and homelessness are very serious problems in the United States. In January of 2013 the
count of people identified as homeless was larger than 600,000 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Many
factors go into what makes this population so large, however this paper will focus on how much
race plays a role in homelessnessand poverty.
Systems (Ecological) Theory Systems theory is a perspective that places emphasis on
understanding how people fit into their environments (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). In systems
theory if a specific person, let s call them Greg, has one system that s not functioning properly,
then the rest of their systems will most likely not work as well (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Greg is

White homeless women had higher rates of hospitalization than homeless women of color (Jones,
2016). When talking about poverty, which is very obviously related to homelessness, people of
color are far more likely to be in poverty than white people. In 2012 the median income for
households of people of color, $33,321 for black households, and $39,005 for latinx households,
was much lower than white households, $57,009 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). This means that
households of color earned less than two thirds less than white households (Segal, Gerdes, Sue,
2016). If people of color are making less than white people, and face discrimination in
employment as well as housing, then it s obvious why they are more likely to be in poverty and
experience homelessness. To combat the discrimination that homeless people face, social
workers often must push for a change in a way that will allow for one of their main systems,
security, to be stable. One example of how this is done is by doing something that s called rapid
re housing. Rapid re housing is the process of immediately removing families out of homelessness
and into permanent housing by aiding in deposits, rent, and utilities (Homelessness, 2015). Before
rapid re housing they would place people in run down homes for at maximum of two years. Not
only does rapid re housing cost less, but it has an 85% outcome of households being stably housed
after the assistance ends (Johnston Kunkel, 2014).

Reflection On The Root Cellar
Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My
work has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5
18. I also helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout
my time at the root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the
classroom are evident with my experiences at this organization.
The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for
the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school
work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects.
Two times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first
was when I was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour
with his english homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked
for some help with his math homework. He was learning how to multiply numbers and I taught him
the multiplying nines trick on his hands. He was so amazed by this and was very thankful which
made my whole experience at The Root Cellar worth it.
The second concept I experienced was economic inequality. This is very apparent with people who
come into the root cellar as they are seeking assistance. My last time volunteering I noticed this as I
was picking up

Summary Of Pollastek E. Al s Study
Summary: The central focus of Pollastek et al s (2012) study was to determine why elderly
drivers are more likely to be involved in vehicular accidents at intersections than younger
experienced drivers. As a means of data collection Pollastek et al (2012) tested the scanning
ability of elderly drivers at intersections through a series of different scenarios. Each scenario took
place in a simulated environment, testing the scanning ability of elderly drivers where they were
instructed to go through 1) a four way intersection, 2) turn right at a T intersection and 3) proceed
through an intersection. Pollastek et al (2012) found that elderly drivers fail to properly scan for
potential hazards while proceeding through intersections. Pollastek et al (2012) also found that by
providing video feedback the participants in the training group performed similarly to younger

Okonkwo Western Influence
The novel Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, is based in Nigeria in a tribe called the Ibo.
The main character, Okonkwo, was a fierce warrior and was looked up to by the rest of the tribe
for his strength and manliness. The western culture came into the Ibo tribe, and Okonkwo had
many struggles adapting to the new ideas they brought. Okonkwo does not embrace Christianity,
and other new beliefs brought by the western culture, and that leads to his tragic downfall.
Okonkwo had a strong sense of identity before western influence was introduced into his culture.
Okonkwo feared being like his dad, Unoka. Okonkwo felt that his dad was a failure, while
Okonkwo was successful at most everything he did. Okonkwo took pride in his great wrestling
accomplishments,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, the Ibo were against listening to a word the missionaries said, These men [the
Christians] must be mad, they say to themselves. (140) Although, most men were against the
new culture, one boy was captivated by the new religion. Nwoye, Okonkwo s first son, was
drawn in by the thought that the Christians brought answers to his unanswered questions. The
missionaries kept sharing the gospel, with the hope that they could get more followers, like
Nwoye. The missionaries needed land to build their church and houses, so the Ibo men gave
them a portion of the Evil Forest with the beliefs that they would be die quickly. Once time
passes, none of the missionaries die, which implants questions in to the Ibo tribe about their own
faith, and the missionaries win their first three converts. Okonkwo was staunch in his own
religion, and primarily hated that the tribe was so weak that many people kept converting to
Christianity. Okonkwo was deeply grieved... He mourned for the clan, which he saw breaking up
and falling apart and he mourned for the warlike men of Umuofia, who had so unaccountably
become soft like women. (170) Okonkwo started to lose hope for his religion, and the people of his

Political Correctness And Terrorism Case Study
Political Correctness Terror: Could it Have Led to Mass Murder?
Political correctness squelched any opportunity to confront him. These are remarks by an
unnamed Army officer under a gag order. The officer was referring to Major Nidal Malik Hasan.
The Army officer goes on to recount a question asked directly to Hasan, Nidal, do you consider
Shari a law to transcend the Constitution of the United States? Hasan replied, Yes (Thompson,
2009). Nidal Hasan went on to callously murder thirteen soldiers and wound thirty two others at
Fort Hood Army base in 2009. Was this terrorism? What type of offender is Nidal Hasan? And
could political correctness have contributed to Nadal s ability to carry out his deadly attack? The

My Brother Sam Is Dead Comparison
There are a lot of books and movies about the Revolutionary War. Some of them are more
historical fiction, which is what I will be covering in this essay. The novel My Brother Sam Is
Dead and the movie The Patriot have many similarities when it comes to the Revolutionary War.
However, the two families have completely different experiences during the war. In the end, both
the book and the movie do an excellent job at showcasing the experiences of those fighting in the
war. In both The Patriot and My Brother Sam Is Dead , the father does not want their son to fight
because they are French and Indian War veterans who have experienced the hardships. The fathers
are also against the war, and believe that family is more important than principles. However, this
does not stop Sam (MBSID) and Gabriel (The Patriot) from joining the Continental Army. In the

The main setting is a tavern in Redding, Connecticut, in the New England Colonies. The New
England Colonies did not have as much slavery, and livestock such as cattle (which is a part of
the book) is more important than crops. The war is talked about frequently, but specific battles
are not described, and the story is from a first person perspective, so it talks more about how the
war impacts civilians. The mother, Susannah Meeker, and the youngest brother, Tim Meeker,
are alive throughout the book. Diseases such as cholera are mentioned, and this ends up killing
the father, Life Meeker. Life was a Tory, so it was ironic that he died on a British prison ship.
Life however, was not a Redcoat; he didn t fight in the war. The Revolutionary War is portrayed

Difference Between Finger And Tweezers Dexterity
Finger and Tweezers Dexterity
O Connor Finger and Tweezers Dexterity Tests:
O Connor Finger and Tweezers dexterity was developed by Jonson O Connor of General Electric
Company in 1920s. Research in the past has demonstrated in the existence of a number of manual
dexterities. This test measures Finger Dexterity which involves the ability to coordinate finger
movements in performing fine manipulations. Finger dexterity tests generally require grasping,
releasing or manipulation of small objects in which the finger tips is primarily used. In the
tweezerss dexterity tests the individual holds a pair of tweezerss in his preferred hand and performs

The tapping rate is a psychological test given to assess the integrity of the neuromuscular system

neurologically driven motor task because the inertial and intersegment interactions are so small that
biomechanical influences on movement are reduced. Finger tapping involves three important
features: time, spatial amplitude, and frequency. Studies have reported that the average number of

Cellulase Producing Microorganisms Essay
Cellulase producing microorganisms
In nature, a wide variety of microorganisms, belonging to the eukaryotic (fungi) and prokaryotic
(eubacteria and actinomycetes) groups are known to produce cellulases (Gautam et al., 2012).
Their cellulolytic systems, however, vary from the free form in the aerobes to the complexed
cellulosomes in the anaerobes. The cellulose degraders can also be classified among the mesophilic
and thermophilic groups. Their physiological characteristics determine the type of environment
inhabited by them. However, the cellulolytic potential of cellulases from physiologically diverse
microbial sources is exploitable in various applications based on their specific relevance. Table 1

Thus, the foremost step in the biochemical conversion is the pretreatment of the biomass, which
involves the deconstruction of the cell wall into its components, i.e., the lignin, hemicellulose and
cellulose (Sun and Cheng, 2002; Kumar et al., 2009). The biomass can be pretreated using different
physical, chemical, biological or combination of these methods (Kumar et al., 2009). Each method
has its own advantages and limitations. The suitability of the pretreatment method depends on the
type of the biomass feedstock (Khare et al., 2015). The efficiency of the pretreatment step, however,
is the key factor determining the yield of the hydrolysis in the cellulosic ethanol production process
(Alvira et al., 2010) as it ensures the accessibility of the carbohydrate polymers for their subsequent
hydrolysis in the fermentable sugars. In the next step, i.e., the saccharification, the celluloses and
hemicelluloses are hydrolysed into C6 and C5 sugars with the help of cellulases and hemicellulases
enzymes respectively (Sarkar et al., 2012). The last step involves the conventional approach of
fermentation of C6 and C5 sugars into ethanol using either native or genetically modified
ethanologenic microbes (Gnansounnou and Dauriat, 2005).
The biomass saccharification can also be carried out using a chemical method of two stage

Hades And Persephone Research Paper
The Ancient Greeks lived a life oriented around religion, and this religious centered life came with
religious ceremonies to celebrate both men and women s coming of age into adulthood.
One interesting rite of passage for both men and women were the Eleusinian mysteries. These
mysteries are based and centered on the myth of Hades and Persephone, commonly used as an
explanation for the changing of the seasons, but has two other interpretations: the sexual
awakening and becoming a woman, and also the idea that is is possible to come back from the
afterlife. Hades may not be the end of everyone. Prior to her kidnapping, Persephone had no
name and was referred to as Kore, or maiden. Upon being kidnapped by Hades, according to some
versions of the myth, the virginal goddesses came to her defense, not wanting to lose one of their
own. Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture, falls into mourning at the loss of her daughter, or the

Internet Freedom And Political Oppression
An immensely prominent aspect of today s society is technology, which has provided the world
with the internet. Though the internet has provided many positive benefits, it has also brought
along many negative aspects. In Evgeny Morozov s article, Technology s Role in Revolution.
Internet Freedom and Political Oppression the authors argument revolves around cyber utopianism
and realism in regard to the internets actual function. Morozov s article attempts to convince the
reader the internetis a rather negative tool due to how the function of the internet has been more
beneficial to governments by allowing the spread of propaganda and legitimacy, and its aid in
authoritarianism. Morozov mainly focuses on how many people often seem to forget how the
internet carries negative aspects, resulting in cyber utopianism, a naГЇve belief in the emancipatory
nature of online communication that rests on a stubborn refusal to acknowledge its downsides.
Morozov argues that cyber utopianism is not a realistic way of viewing the internet due to how the
internet operates throughout different countries and because of the effect the internet has had on
authoritarianism. Instead of the internet being a tool for the oppressed, Morozov suggests that it
has become a bigger aid to governments. Though I do think that the internet is an important aid in
helping with world issues, I do agree that there are more negative consequences. This is evident
considering some countries barely have access

History Behind The Technique From the start, as fate would have it, I set forever on the path of

beautiful blank fans with a regular deck of cards. This was doubly challenging. Not only were
my hands smaller and not dexterous, but my father taught me the reverse fan in my right hand as

Once again, spreading cards in a certain way achieves a specific objective in this case, to control

2000, after a long and fruitful card session, my Las Vegan friend Joe Burton issued an off the
cuff challenge. He wanted me to create a move on the spot. Without hesitation, I picked up the
pack from the table, pulled down a few cards and executed a reverse spread from the break. As I
squared the cards, I loaded the hidden block into the spread. It felt effortless and natural, almost
as if I had been performing it for years. From Joey s point of view, it seemed as if I had simply
spread the deck and closed it. Yet, I actually controlled a card to the bottom! It was then that I saw
the potential and the birth of Pulp Friction. For the next year, I infatuated with the idea of bringing
a selection to the bottom of the deck. I assumed that Pulp Friction was simply a single card control.

What s That Awful Smell? 6 Signs You Need To Call A Plumbing Company For Obnoxious Odors

4. Bad Smells Coming From Every Drain In The House
If multiple drains are giving you indications of an internal plumbing issue, you might want to call
the plumbing company right away or contact your local sewer department. A home wide smell is
a likely sign of a broken or otherwise blocked sewage line leading up the home s underground
plumbing system. The pipes closest to your house are suppose to carry waste away to the town or
city s main lines, but when something causes them to not function, it can get very smelly, very
quickly. This is rarely a do it yourself situation, so contact a professional as soon as you realize
you have such a widespread challenge on your hands.
5. Nauseating Basement Specific Drains
Should only the basement drains be causing nausea, it s a good bet your branch line is backed
up, especially if there unpleasantries are accompanied by water gushing up, too. The branch line
consists of horizontal pipes that are too long for any type of chemical agent to be effective in,
making it necessary to either open up the pipe system yourself to manually remove the backlog of
clogs or refer to a plumber.
6. An Ambiance Of Raw Sewage Throughout The Home
A home that reeks of raw sewage isn t something anyone should have to bear and if you re faced
with this disgusting fate, you need to check the venting pipes, or hire someone else to. Venting
pipes are designed to essentially vacuum malodorous air from your home and send it outside,

Before the merging, Disney had a leader that was ineffective and it showed in the work they

The basis of path goal is that effective leaders motivate subordinates to achieve goals by 1:
Clearly identifying the outcomes that subordinates are trying to obtain from the workplace. In
the Disney Pixar aspect, the main goal of everyone is to come up with new innovated film ideas
that have never been done before. Always trying to push the envelope. This in an interesting job
assignment, very challenging this day and age because everything is just getting bigger and

of work goals. I would think there would be compensation for producing a box office hit. There
is a shared interest in everyone s success. They really are a team, the success of a movie counts
on each and every person involved. And 3: Clarifying for subordinates the paths leading to the
attainment of work goals. To remove any obstacles, the company created an environment where
they remove the power structure. Everyone s notes are equal. Everyone is encouraged to share

Cause And Effect Of Alcohol Abuse
Effects of Alcohol Abuse 15.1 million adults aged 18 and over suffer from alcohol abuse in the
United States. Alcohol abuse is the harmful use of alcohol, despite its negative consequences on the
individual, such as interfering with daily activities. Although some studies show that moderate
alcohol usage can benefit one s health, it is commonly agreed that the negatives heavily outweigh
the positives. About ten percent of children in the United States lives with a parent who abuses
alcohol and about 88,000 people die yearly from alcohol poisoning in the United States. Therefore,
alcohol abusemay have impacts on one s family life and their physiological state. To begin,
alcohol abuse may have an effect on one s family life. Children, growing up around a parent who
abuses alcohol may lead a life of both psychological and emotional problems, and these children
may also be vulnerable to alcohol related physical and/or verbal abuse. Alcoholic parents may
also influence their kids to grow up with the same habits, as children who have at least one
alcoholic parent are about 3 4 times likely to abuse alcohol when they re older, compared to
children that do not. In addition, having alcoholic parents may influence a student s academics. In
one study, 41% of addicted parents reported that at least one of their children repeated a grade in

balance of payment crunch and triple digit inflation, all of which led to shortages of food and
household product supplies. Already the multinationals are closing offices in Venezuela, shops
are short of basic supplies such as oil, rice, flour, and sugar, and if the situation gets worse, it
might deal a hard blow to the country. Protests and riots have become more frequent in the
country since September last year when economic condition gradually started getting worse.
MarketWatch reported that inflation is predicted to rise and cross 1,640 pert by next year. The
nation s currency Bolivar has taken a sharp plunge downward, and has made it more difficult for

Ice Age Cycles
Due to recent increases in the Earths average temperature Climate Change has become a highly
discussed topic in society. This has caused individuals to solely focus on the increasing
temperatures of today and completely neglect temperatures that the planet has experienced in the
past. When looking at paleoclimate data one can clearly see the fluxuations in the ice age cycles
(periods of cooling and warming). Ice age cycles are amplified by positive feedback systems that
make the earthcooler or warmer depending upon the physical process that is being altered. In his
response Bruce Parker, a physical oceanographer, discussed the impact that these positive feedback
loops have on Earths overall temperature and how scientists have yet to figure out what causes the
amplifying mechanisms to switch from warming to cooling.... Show more content on

In my opinion, in order to understand the increasing temperatures that the globe is experiencing
today, Earths past climates must be studied. The study of Earths past climates is called
paleoclimatology and it has led to the understanding that for the past 2.4 million years Earth has
been undergoing times of extreme cooling and warming. However, what the data has yet to
explain what causes the planet to switch from cooling cycles to warming cycles. As a scientist I
agree with Dr. Parker when he says that more individuals need to look at this question. I feel this
way because if scientists are able to explain the sudden change from heating to cooling they may
be able to manipulate variables that are present in today s society, potentially slowing down or
reversing global warming. This concept would drastically alter the way the world looks at climate
change by enabling humans to actively change geological processes they otherwise would be
unable to

When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish and expensive
items such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with ridiculous interest rates. The
soldiers were allowed to walk into businesses and purchase items with no money down and take it
home the same day. With no cap on how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will
miscalculate their monthly spending and at the end of the month have no money left for
necessities. The Soldiers then cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay
for their goods. Once the Soldier stop making payments, companies will then file for an involuntary
allotment to get their money. It is Department of Defense (DoD) policy that military members pay
their just financial obligations in a proper and timely manner. Creditors who have been awarded a
civil judgment against a military member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an
involuntary allotment from the member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George also
stated that so many Soldiers were getting suits filed against them that the Army started to
investigate the companies and found that the companies were targeting and taking advantage of
Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel changed the policy
pertaining to military allotments. The new policy prohibits service

Literature Review On Stainless Steel
Literature Review
1. Overview of stainless steel
1.1 Stainless steel
The definition of stainless steel is the composition of chromium (Cr) in low carbon steel alloy is
at least 10.5% and maximum30%. Stainless steel is more corrosion and rusting resistant than low
carbon steel. In steel, the iron surface is easily form a oxide film and tends to form more oxide.
This cause the oxide diffuse inside the alloy so rusting can occurs readily. However, stainless steel
contains plenty of chromium. The chromium can form a passivation (oxide film) and obstruct the
diffusion of the oxygen from surface to the internal structure. Also, the composition of Nickel (Ni)
will corporate with chromium and increase the ability of corrosion resistant of stainless steel. For
the physical properties of stainless steel, the strength of stainless steel is much higher than iron. The
high strength of stainless steel is due to the low carbon content. The ... Show more content on

In stainless steel production, the minimum amount of chromium should not be less than 10.5%.
The function of the chromium is the formation of protective passivation to prevent the corrosion
and oxidization from the environment. The oxide film formed from chromium can block the
diffusion of the oxygen. Also, the chromium provide the ferrite structure and increase the body
centred cubic (bcc) structure. Chromium usually works with nickel. The raising in nickel content,
the requirement of chromium must be increase at the same time to keep the balance of two phases.
There is usually at least 16% of chromium in austenitic stainless steel and at least 20% of nickel in
duplex grade.
(b) Molybdenum
The role of molybdenum is supporting chromium and nickel to enhance the resistance of the local
and other corrosions as pitting and crevice corrosion. Molybdenum is a ferrite stabilizer. The
performance of mo can be three time when the chromium content is higher than 18%.

Effects Of Nonverbal Behavior On Power Perceptions Of Male...
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to build on Auginis and Henle (2001) and Auginis, Simonsen and
Pierce (1998) by examining the effects of nonverbal behavior on power perceptions of male and
female employees in managerial positons. This study will use a 2 (Gender: male vs. female) x 3
(Nonverbal behavior: eye contact vs. facial expression vs. body posture) x 2 (Repeated measures:
pre test vs. post test) design. Employees in the retail industry will fill out a questionnaire prior to
the study pertaining to their general perceptions of male and female employees in managerial
positons. The questionnaire will be followed by two video tape recordings, showing a male and
female manager engaging in all three types of nonverbal behaviors. After watching each video,
the participants will be asked to evaluate their perceptions of the manager s power bases (reward,
coercive, legitimate, referent, and credibility) by filling out a questionnaire. It is predicted that
male employees will be perceived as having more power than female employees for all power
bases. Effects of Nonverbal Behavior on Power Perceptions:
Male and Female Employees in Managerial Positions Body language is a form of nonverbal
communication that allows individuals to communicate their personal feelings, emotions, attitudes
and thoughts through body movements. (Rane, 2010, p.17) The interpretation of body language

uses key financial ratiosto measure Nike s strength or weakness as a company, and ultimately
decide if Nike is worth investing in.
Our first important financial ratio is the current ratio. The current ratio measures a firms potential
or ability to pay off it s short term debts (or liabilities) with specifically it s current assets. Short
term liabilities are due within a year, which makes the current ratio extremely important. The ratio
is both a liquidity ratio and an efficiency ratio. A company favors a higher current ratio because it
shows the company can pay current debt payments with little hassle. If a company has a current
ratio of 3, it means the company has 3x the current assets than current liabilities. But If a company

World War Two Poem Annotated
Just by reading the title, we know that this poem is about World War II. The first stanza talks
about high school kids training for war. Hall is comparing a school sport to fighting in the war
which, to me, is a bit of an exaggeration. You are not very likely to get badly hurt playing a sport
and, if you do, you can usually come back from it fairly well. In war, it is extremely easy to become
injured, and most war injuries can cause you to lose your life. We see an example of this in
Stanza II when Dom dies in battle. During WWII, the military drafted young men to fight in the
war. Dom was just a kid, sent off to fight in the war, and died not even a year after being one of the
high schoolers playing sports. His life had barely started before

Perfect having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is

definition of perfect by undergoing countless procedures, skipping meals, and even harming
themselves. But how can they ignore societies constant pressure when everywhere you look are
models with size 2 waists and DD boobs? But the big question here is, is there too much pressure
on girls to have the perfect body? I believe that fake models have a negative influence on young
girls. But Lindsey, not all companies have fake models. Companies like Aerie and American Eagle
are doing campaigns like Aerie Real and AmerICAN Eagle showing real people modeling their

The Pros And Cons Of Yogic Practices
Is Yogic practices different from normal exercises?
Yogic practices is not exercise in the sense in which the word exercise is commonly understood.
Both yogic practices and exercises have a common goal or objective, namely health protection and
promotion. However , the effect of yogic practices is not limited to this only. It is expected that
yogapractices should lead to a balanced personality.
Normal exercise routine is focused towards a certain goal, such as losing 10kg or increase push ups
than what you did yesterday. Yogais to tone the body and calm the mind at the same time.
Regular yoga abhyas develops self confidence, boots vitality and induces a feeling of stability ; it
improves the health of the body and mind. However, this does not mean that yoga is a kind of
physical exercise . The objectives of different types of exercises such as sports, wrestling, ... Show

But even in yoga, we often don t pay much attention to this dimension in our practice.
What brings silence into our practice is making our yoga class a sacred place. But in these days
of mobiles and tablets, many people bring their electronics to their class, and we ve lost that
impermeability. That s disturbing the potential of allowing silence to enter into our practice. We
let ourselves get depleted and then use yoga to try to get us back to neutral. Instead of going
from negative to zero one must try to organize our lives to go from zero to positive. This requires
neti, neti , not this, not this . It requires learning to let go of certain things and not letting them
enter into that sacred space. Yoga is not a doctrine or belief system but a process of observation,
introspection and self enquiry. Sage Patanjali has given practical ways to reach the self. Practical
approach is very much necessary as any preconceived faith, belief or ideas is detrimental to
objective inquiry. Mauna is part and parcel of this self

Analysis Of Jason Brennan s Second Chapter Of Against...
In Jason Brennan s second chapter of Against Democracy (2016) multiple topics are discussed
pertaining to the political action of voting. Throughout this chapter Brennan explores the ideologies
of rational ignorance and rational irrationality about politics, as well as the psychological benefits
of holding firm to an irrational belief, and the cognitive biases or errors displayed in society.
Brennan s views create controversy and often times don t seem to directly favor one another.
Although I admired the viewpoints Brennan gave, I had a difficult time buying into the
philosophical ideas he presented. As we progress in this paper, we will learn more about Brennan s
narrow view of politicsbeing only associated to voting. Brennan created adequate argument for the
philosophical measures he presents, however this strict polices don t seem to equate with democracy
in its entirety.
Within the second chapter of Against Democracy (2016), we become aware of rational ignorance
about politics and rational irrationality about politics. These two subjects hold considerable weight
in Brennan s expression of what it means to be political. Rational ignorance is when the costs of
acquiring knowledge surpass the benefits of having that knowledge (Brennan, 2016). In relation to
politics, which Brennan exclusively only refers to as voting and not any other political action,
rational ignorance is when there is no benefit to learning political matter because you vote will not
matter or produce

The Dangers of Total Equality in Harrison Bergeron
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. s Harrison Bergeron tells the story of an unbelievably talented young man that
defies the constraints of total equality in futuristic America, year 2081. Because of the 211th,
212th, and 213th amendments, all citizens are subjected to a communist like state where everyone
is made to be equal in beauty, physique, and intelligence. Throughout Harrison Bergeron, symbols
such as Harrison s defiance of the law, his physical attributes, and the setting presents the theme
of the story as the idea that total equality would be disastrous. Harrison s defiance against the
government symbolizes the rebellious nature of many people everywhere and in every time
period. Harrison breaks out of the prison that he was put into for being so dominant, just to show
everyone what he can become. He exclaims to the audience, Even as I stand here he bellowed,
crippled, hobbled, sickened I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived! Now watch me
become what I can become! (Vonnegut 5). His rebelliousness is a product of his human
competitive nature. Throughout all of time, people have always strived to be better than one
another, and to be different as well. The Olympics, Miss Universe, and the Nobel Prize are all
examples of rewards people receive when competing against one another to show exactly who is
best. Being able to show one s talents allows for more individuality to be recognized. Notably,
Harrison s physical characteristics represent individuality,

The Cap And Trade System
Cap and trade is a system aimed at diminishing the rate at which carbon is emitted into the
atmosphere by creating an economic system based on meeting a certain minimal threshold or
paying low emitting companies for the right to emit in their place. For example, if company A
only emits half of the emissions cap, that company can sell (or trade) the remaining credits to
company B, should company B choose to emit one and a half times the cap. A main objection to
the cap and trade system is that it is not a strong enough means by which to curb emissions of
fossil fuels and is inferior to specifically stronger carbon taxes. While initially appealing, the
notion of simply strengthening carbon taxes fails to properly stifle carbon emissions and to
adequately incentivize green development in comparison to the cap and trade system,
preventing carbon taxes from occupying a central role to mitigate carbon emissions. Carbon
taxes are intended to drive down carbon emissions by creating a monetary cost to specific levels
of emissions. These taxes are intended to extinguish the profitability of the goods associated with
the emissions. While in theory, the passing of such taxes would stifle emissions, there are no set
boundaries for total production. Exxon, for example, experienced a net profit of roughly 45
billion dollars in 2013 (Isidore) and is responsible for roughly 3% of all industrial emissions, dating
from pre Revolutionary America (Greenpeace). While a carbon taxwould

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Amigos Mexicanos And Mayan Dusk Amigos Mexicanos and Mayan Dusk are fictional stories written by Juan Villoro. Both stories had many similarities mainly with both of them having unnamed protagonists as well as both being written in first person. These stories show a different side of Mexico and Mexican people. This approach taken by Villoro as well as his style of writing and use of humor gives quite some insight into Mexican life and Culture. One of the first things that I have noticed whilst reading these short stories was Villoros interesting use of pronouns. Which was evident more so in Mayan Dusk . The author starts of by using we which gives a sense of unity. However, as the story proceeds pronouns begin to change from we to I and it s quite evident that... Shaw was able to equate the success of these films to the new and unconventional approaches taken by the directors, which mainly showed a more watered down version of Mexico and its culture in order to attract international audiences. This was seen in Like water for chocolate in its portrayal of Mexico as an ideal and tourist friendly Mexico. However, in Amores Perros Shaw believed the vast success was also attributed to the director s focus on making the characters relatable and familiar. These ideas and motives behind the success of these films was made clear by Shaw s historical knowledge gave much needed insight into the history of Mexican film. This insight not only helped in expanding the readers knowledge of Mexican film but it has also helped in linking Mexican films to the cultrate and identity of the Mexican people. • 3. Comparing Colonial Government And Government Today There are many similarities and differences between the colonial government and government today. When comparing them, you will find that not a lot has changed. From then to now, there has been advances and new ideas. Despite the changes or advances, certain things never advanced or got changed , some ideas were left behind. What has not changed? What has changed and what makes them different rather than similar? What was colonial governmenteven like? The colonial government had governors. Governors had the final decision and could persuade assemblies to do what they wanted by disobeying a not paying their salaries. Colonial Governors had an advisory council, colonial assemblies, colonial courts, and town meetings. The advisory council would get together with Virginia Assembly (or VA) to create or select VA s houses. One house was called Council of State and the other, House of Burgesses. This was a bicameral legislature which was the lawmaking group or body with two houses. Colonial assemblies would do the same. The lower house in bicameral legislature could raise taxes.... There are two houses in government today called the House of Representatives and the Senate. The American Parliament is called Congress. Congress is the lawmaking body just like the Parliament is. Congress has the authority to create a law from a bill. Members can discuss problems and/or solutions that may help society. If they form a bill to attempt to find a solution, they can present it to all of the Congress members in efforts to make it a law. If they don t approve, the law can die. Once a bill dies, members can rewrite the bill until Congress approves. If and when Congress approves, it then has to complete the final steps to become an official law. These final steps may include, getting ratified and getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Myth and Mythology have always been among the elements which shape the lives of individuals and the working mechanism of societies. Margaret Atwood uses in her works every possible material that enables one to trace her experiences back to the social, historical, cultural, and natural aspects of her identity . Her familiarity with the Canadian wilderness can be detected in her employment of nature and animal imagery in her poems and novels. Her novel s The Penelopid and Surfacingto discover some common and persistent patterns of women writers use when they rewrite myths. In the first part, Wolters explains that the original plan of God was to make earth to be very good, but then the original sin corrupted this holy world affecting creation as a whole. Wolters theory applied to The Enduring Chill by Flannery O Connor AbsuryВґs life is an example of how the fall corrupts life s one and how human s behavior is what feeds the sin that generates this fall. Asbury has experimented the consequences of sin in his life through sickness, lack of talent and unhappiness in general. Given that Absury shares the natural human goal of getting happiness, he tries to feel better using his owns means. However, he does not achieve it, because he is not aware of the link between evil and slavery due his pride. His pride made him do not even go to the doctor to save his own life, because he was convinced that everything that happens to him overcomes doctors knowledge. Also, he thought that only he could feel better doing something significant before he died. However, over the time he realized that he was not going to be able to achieve a significant experience and have the death that he wanted. This story is analogous to human behavior toward God. Asbury had the opportunity to heal, however he decided not to take it, which caused him a painful agony. • 6. Mexican And Mexican Americans During The War Of Texas And... The Unit explains the hardships many Mexican and Mexican Americans have carried and continue to carry till this day due to their ethnicity and roots. The inequality and struggles rooted from the invasion of Texas and the wrongful won over Mexican territory by the Euro centric American who then expanded their border down south unjustly colonizing the Northwest of Mexico. Along with land many Mexicans who resided in this land were now living in among a strange new government and environment that was once their land. This began the expectation of having Mexican Americans being able to assimilate into the Euro Centric culture. These assimilations they were presume to make caused for many to lose touch of their own culture. Mexican Americans continued to be oppressed even when serving their own country. Many young Mexican Americans turned to joining the military due to financial hardships, like many due this day. Although these young men were risking their life they were still wrongfully treated and racially discriminated while in service. Having men risking their life for a country and still be discriminated because of their ethnicity shows how progressed the hatred for Mexicans was developed. The recognition and triumph of many Mexican American soldiers went unacknowledged due to their ethnicity. Mexican Americans were also labeled as criminals and murders due to media and their portrayal of Mexicans. Also, the meaning of being called a Chicano /a is also included and ... Synthesis Essay on Indocumented Immigrants in the US In my ENC 1101 class, we were required to go through several of processes to map out the formula of writing our final assignment in our class: a synthesis essay. The most imperative part of our assignment was to choose a synthesis essay question on a list that our professor gave us. The second most vital ingredient in the formula was to choose two texts from our Allyn Bacon Guide to Writing book which would be the backbone of our synthesis essay that we would have to expand on and create our own ideas from. Seeing the many sides of the immigration conflict, I believe the Congress should allow undocumented immigrants to live in America, but they must show that they are an asset to America. Despite the fact that Williams writes for a call to action for the resolution of immigration in the United States, his article is a blog article written for his blog followers. Williams article is not intended for scholarly audiences, while Hanson s article is. Hanson s article is published on the History News Network, which requires great thought and reviewing, whereas Williams is just required to write an article and post on the Huffington Post in his profile, without an editor to review the contents of the article. Williams is free to voice his opinion in whichever language he desires due to it being a blog article, and Hanson is not. However, due to this being so, Hanson s article proves to more credible that Williams article, especially due to the fact that Hanson is a military historian and political essayist. But, Williams article provides pathos in his article by including a personal anecdote in the introduction of it. • 8. David And Noah Research Paper Then the LORD said to Moses, Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel. (Exodus 34:27). From the very beginning, covenants have been the promises that eternally bond relationships. Biblical characters have demonstrated to us the journey to becoming a person of covenant, as well as the hardships that come with it. Their developing relationships with God still exhibit modern day covenants we are also cultivating with the Lord. After examining David and Noah s covenants with God, I am realizing that my covenant relationship with the Lord is like theirs in the sense that I often inconsiderately stray from God s path, but progressively become more on track as God further motivates me.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting off, King David tells his servant, Peter, that he wants to build a temple for God. He states, Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent. (2 Sam 7:1). It is evident that David has good intentions, but this is not the path that God intended! God knows David s purposes, and tells Nathan the prophet, I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day... did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, Why have you not built me a house of cedar? (2 Samuel 7:6 7). It is very clear that David is not exactly where God wanted him to be. David thinks he is helping God by building him a temple, but in reality, it is offending the Lord. God is the real king, not David, and it is evident that the Lord want to be universal, not stationary in a temple. Although He has good aims, David is not going in God s direction. This story is relatable, as I often do not pay attention to the purposes God has for me, instead I focus on the ones I have for him. Similar to David, I sometimes forget that the Lord desires to provide me with strength, and I cannot attempt to be inferior to Him. When God has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aquapentaamminecobalt Synthesis Lab Report Introduction: The compound aquapentaamminecobalt(III) Nitrate, [Co(NH3)5OH2] NO3, is a metal complex bonded to the molecule nitrate to attain a neutral charge. The synthesis of this molecule is a more complex one, requiring the recrystallization of an intermediate species. When the complex has been formed and isolated via filtration, the complex can be reacted with various aqueous solutions, one being dimethyl sulfoxide, C2H6OS. When reacted these reagents form the compound Co(NH3)5(OS(CH3)2)3+, H2O, and NO3 , though not inn this ratio. From this point in the lab, we could make no real predictions about the composition of the products or the mechanisms of the reactions. This is also most likely the reason for such a low yield and strange coloration. Other sources of error include poor transfer of the crude product from filter paper to flask for recrystallization, as some of the product was lost in the transfer, lessening the yield. Also, when the 0.75 mL of the 16 M nitric acid was added, the pH, instead of becoming neutral, resulted in a pH of 1, in effect burning the product. This may also be a reason for the color of the final product. In conclusion, this lab was a failure. Not only was the yield very small upon inspection, but the product s composition was unknown due to the unknown solution. Given the nature of the lab, little yield was expected and observed, making the lab itself very particular in nature. Add to this the addition of the unknown solution and any produce was astounding. Not only unfortunate, the unknown solution was very dangerous. If it had been some solution that reacted violently with the reagents, there could have been unforeseen damage done to the lab and the individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to find an accurate reading of the amount of radiation consumption we came up with 10 questions that were crucial to our investigation. Our questions consist of medical, travel and miscellaneous related objects that disperse radiation. In order for us to get a more accurate idea of how much radiation students are consuming we made a total of 100 surveys, which were distributed to our Chavez peers. Once we gathered all information we made precise calculations of each item according to the amount of mREM each item contained. After that we will be analyzing our data and transfer it to a graph where it will be divided into 3 different sections; that is how we will determine where Chavez students are receiving most of the radiation from. • 13. Claude MonetAndWaterlilies Or Nympheas Claude Monet was an artist born in the 19th century. He was well known for being one of the founders of the art movement know as impressionism. Monet created many art series in which he would paint one object multiple times, one of his most famous series being waterlilies, which was created towards the end of his life. The painting I will be talking about today is one of his many waterlily paintings, painted in 1904, Waterlilies or Nympheas was just one of 250 paintings in this series. The medium is oil paint on canvas and depicts a relaxing scene with waterlilies on a lake. This piece of art was part of an art period where where it defied social standards in France and was My first impression of Nympheas is that it s a peaceful scenery, it was very calming to look at. The first thing that my eyes were drawn to were the waterlilies in the back because the part of the painting has the most color with: pink, white and green depicting the different petals floating on the lake. Monet also used colors to help depict natural light, you can see in the painting that he used darker tones around the middle to juxtapose the waterlilies showing that is where shade is and having the light hitting the waterlilies making the focal point or the main focus in the piece stand out more. For example, the lower half of the painting shows more darker tones whereas the top upper half show more brighter colors used for the waterlilies. Nympheas gives off many moods, like I said before it was very calming to look at. I imagine the waterlilies just lightly floating within the lake giving off a relaxed vibe, what gives off this vibe is that the composition of the painting. The art piece isn t dynamic meaning that there is nothing showing great movement but the painting isn t static either, I imagine the waterlilies just floating gently in space. Another thing that stood out to me was the brushstrokes, being able to look at art pieces at such a close distance is that you re able to visibly see the different brushstrokes that are made on the canvas. The brush strokes helped create texture with the paint style of impasto, which is having an excess amount of paint on a brush and leaving thick amounts of paint stay on the canvas ... • 16. David Foster Wallace Commencement Speech Summary In his Commencement speech at the Kenyon University, David Foster Wallace states that humanity as a whole is oblivious to the obvious things in life and has a close mindedness that amounts to an imprisonment so total that the prisoner doesn t even know he s locked up 1. He touches upon this concept of how people get caught up into the day to day routine of their life and they end up feeling empty like something essential is missing from their lives that their life becomes unsubstantial, this is because they are not aware that they are stuck in the default setting. Because this was a commencement speech for a graduation, Wallace talks about the value of a liberal arts education. He goes on to say that a liberal arts education is there to teach you how to think, by instilling the ability to challenge your everyday thought process and not get stuck in what he calls the default setting. Wallace explains this concept he calls the default setting, which is basically this sort of natural, basic self centeredness 2. This idea or view of being the center of the universe, the most important person in existence. A concept such as that is something that people don t really think about often because it is so natural and instinctual, even right now I am in a default setting, thinking about how to write this, all the other work that is due, how I wish the line for food at the commons would move faster, how I wish that the weekend would just arrive already, and when winter break will ... Bp The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Of 2010 Prior to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010, BP had a positive reputation for promoting corporate sustainability and creating sustainable energy. In the wake of the oil spill, however, BP proved that it was not on the right track despite the proclamation to its constituents of the exact opposite. There is a popular adage almost doesn t count. BP s investment in research directed toward minimizing negative environmental impact while conducting business and accomplishing major undertakings such as the Forties Field and Trans Alaska pipelines was a move in the right direction. BP s follow through with the declarations the company made to its stakeholders was severely lacking, however, and proved to be detrimental. The company admitted to failures and oversight in its Risk Management sector such as failing to have a remote shut off switch, cutting corners to save time and money, faulty wiring, a dead battery, a bent pipe, and its failure to closely monitor a company that had a history of being responsible for other oil spillsand disasters among other faults. A 166 page report issued in 2014, four years after the spill, determined that both BP and Transocean failed to adequately inspect safety systems despite suggestions made to do so. The current population for B.C. is around 4.4 million people, which is 13% of Canadas total population (Mandres, 2016). B.C. is a growing population with an average of 4.8 people per square Km. 60% of the population is located in the South Western part of the province. This is known as the Georgia Straight Region. This highly populated area can be seen in red Figure 6. The reason so many people are located in this region is due to the continued urbanization and high levels of transportation networks. With the high volume of people living around the heart of the city of Vancouver, this region is a perfect location for domestic and international business to take place. With subway, train, and highway access the Georgia Straight Region is an ideal location for commuting workers to live. Many factors go into what makes this population so large, however this paper will focus on how much race plays a role in homelessnessand poverty. Systems (Ecological) Theory Systems theory is a perspective that places emphasis on understanding how people fit into their environments (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). In systems theory if a specific person, let s call them Greg, has one system that s not functioning properly, then the rest of their systems will most likely not work as well (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). When talking about poverty, which is very obviously related to homelessness, people of color are far more likely to be in poverty than white people. In 2012 the median income for households of people of color, $33,321 for black households, and $39,005 for latinx households, was much lower than white households, $57,009 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). This means that households of color earned less than two thirds less than white households (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). If people of color are making less than white people, and face discrimination in employment as well as housing, then it s obvious why they are more likely to be in poverty and experience homelessness. To combat the discrimination that homeless people face, social workers often must push for a change in a way that will allow for one of their main systems, security, to be stable. One example of how this is done is by doing something that s called rapid re housing. Rapid re housing is the process of immediately removing families out of homelessness and into permanent housing by aiding in deposits, rent, and utilities (Homelessness, 2015). Before rapid re housing they would place people in run down homes for at maximum of two years. Not only does rapid re housing cost less, but it has an 85% outcome of households being stably housed after the assistance ends (Johnston Kunkel, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Reflection On The Root Cellar Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My work has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5 18. I also helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout my time at the root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the classroom are evident with my experiences at this organization. The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects. Two times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first was when I was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour with his english homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked for some help with his math homework. He was learning how to multiply numbers and I taught him the multiplying nines trick on his hands. He was so amazed by this and was very thankful which made my whole experience at The Root Cellar worth it. The second concept I experienced was economic inequality. This is very apparent with people who come into the root cellar as they are seeking assistance. My last time volunteering I noticed this as I was picking up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Summary Of Pollastek E. Al s Study Summary: The central focus of Pollastek et al s (2012) study was to determine why elderly drivers are more likely to be involved in vehicular accidents at intersections than younger experienced drivers. As a means of data collection Pollastek et al (2012) tested the scanning ability of elderly drivers at intersections through a series of different scenarios. Each scenario took place in a simulated environment, testing the scanning ability of elderly drivers where they were instructed to go through 1) a four way intersection, 2) turn right at a T intersection and 3) proceed through an intersection. Pollastek et al (2012) found that elderly drivers fail to properly scan for potential hazards while proceeding through intersections. Pollastek et al (2012) also found that by providing video feedback the participants in the training group performed similarly to younger experienced drivers. Reactions: The strengths of Pollastek et al s (2012) study lie in the methods used for data collection. Thus, the foremost step in the biochemical conversion is the pretreatment of the biomass, which involves the deconstruction of the cell wall into its components, i.e., the lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose (Sun and Cheng, 2002; Kumar et al., 2009). The biomass can be pretreated using different physical, chemical, biological or combination of these methods (Kumar et al., 2009). Each method has its own advantages and limitations. The suitability of the pretreatment method depends on the type of the biomass feedstock (Khare et al., 2015). The efficiency of the pretreatment step, however, is the key factor determining the yield of the hydrolysis in the cellulosic ethanol production process (Alvira et al., 2010) as it ensures the accessibility of the carbohydrate polymers for their subsequent hydrolysis in the fermentable sugars. In the next step, i.e., the saccharification, the celluloses and hemicelluloses are hydrolysed into C6 and C5 sugars with the help of cellulases and hemicellulases enzymes respectively (Sarkar et al., 2012). The girl in the poem is trying to change her image by once again quoting like there s something, everything, wrong, it s dropping food coloring in your eyes to make them blue and suffering their burn in silence. It s popping a bleached white mophead over the kinks of your hair (pg 267 Clugston). • 39. Cause And Effect Of Alcohol Abuse Effects of Alcohol Abuse 15.1 million adults aged 18 and over suffer from alcohol abuse in the United States. Alcohol abuse is the harmful use of alcohol, despite its negative consequences on the individual, such as interfering with daily activities. Although some studies show that moderate alcohol usage can benefit one s health, it is commonly agreed that the negatives heavily outweigh the positives. About ten percent of children in the United States lives with a parent who abuses alcohol and about 88,000 people die yearly from alcohol poisoning in the United States. Therefore, alcohol abusemay have impacts on one s family life and their physiological state. To begin, alcohol abuse may have an effect on one s family life. Children, growing up around a parent who abuses alcohol may lead a life of both psychological and emotional problems, and these children may also be vulnerable to alcohol related physical and/or verbal abuse. Alcoholic parents may also influence their kids to grow up with the same habits, as children who have at least one alcoholic parent are about 3 4 times likely to abuse alcohol when they re older, compared to children that do not. In addition, having alcoholic parents may influence a student s academics. In one study, 41% of addicted parents reported that at least one of their children repeated a grade in school, 19% were involved in truancy, and 30% had been suspended from school (cite). Venezuela Economic Crisis Essay Over 135,000 Venezuelans waited on an international bridge to enter Colombia so that they could shop for food, toiletries, and medicine which are hardly available in any of the country s stores. The government of Venezuela had closed the borders a year ago, but briefly ordered them open twice this week. Governments made the decision to open the borders after 500 women, mostly dressed in white, broke through the border controls to buy food in Colombia on July 10. Many of the Venezuelans sold their personal items to be able to afford food and groceries, and some invested their savings and emergency funds to provide for basic necessities of their families. Already the multinationals are closing offices in Venezuela, shops are short of basic supplies such as oil, rice, flour, and sugar, and if the situation gets worse, it might deal a hard blow to the country. • 41. Ice Age Cycles Due to recent increases in the Earths average temperature Climate Change has become a highly discussed topic in society. This has caused individuals to solely focus on the increasing temperatures of today and completely neglect temperatures that the planet has experienced in the past. When looking at paleoclimate data one can clearly see the fluxuations in the ice age cycles (periods of cooling and warming). Ice age cycles are amplified by positive feedback systems that make the earthcooler or warmer depending upon the physical process that is being altered. In his response Bruce Parker, a physical oceanographer, discussed the impact that these positive feedback loops have on Earths overall temperature and how scientists have yet to figure out what causes the amplifying mechanisms to switch from warming to cooling.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, in order to understand the increasing temperatures that the globe is experiencing today, Earths past climates must be studied. The study of Earths past climates is called paleoclimatology and it has led to the understanding that for the past 2.4 million years Earth has been undergoing times of extreme cooling and warming. However, what the data has yet to explain what causes the planet to switch from cooling cycles to warming cycles. As a scientist I agree with Dr. Parker when he says that more individuals need to look at this question. I feel this way because if scientists are able to explain the sudden change from heating to cooling they may be able to manipulate variables that are present in today s society, potentially slowing down or reversing global warming. This concept would drastically alter the way the world looks at climate change by enabling humans to actively change geological processes they otherwise would be unable to ... Abstract The purpose of this research is to build on Auginis and Henle (2001) and Auginis, Simonsen and Pierce (1998) by examining the effects of nonverbal behavior on power perceptions of male and female employees in managerial positons. This study will use a 2 (Gender: male vs. female) x 3 (Nonverbal behavior: eye contact vs. facial expression vs. body posture) x 2 (Repeated measures: pre test vs. post test) design. Employees in the retail industry will fill out a questionnaire prior to the study pertaining to their general perceptions of male and female employees in managerial positons. The questionnaire will be followed by two video tape recordings, showing a male and female manager engaging in all three types of nonverbal behaviors. After watching each video, the participants will be asked to evaluate their perceptions of the manager s power bases (reward, coercive, legitimate, referent, and credibility) by filling out a questionnaire. It is predicted that male employees will be perceived as having more power than female employees for all power bases. Effects of Nonverbal Behavior on Power Perceptions: Male and Female Employees in Managerial Positions Body language is a form of nonverbal communication that allows individuals to communicate their personal feelings, emotions, attitudes and thoughts through body movements. • 55. The Cap And Trade System Cap and trade is a system aimed at diminishing the rate at which carbon is emitted into the atmosphere by creating an economic system based on meeting a certain minimal threshold or paying low emitting companies for the right to emit in their place. For example, if company A only emits half of the emissions cap, that company can sell (or trade) the remaining credits to company B, should company B choose to emit one and a half times the cap. A main objection to the cap and trade system is that it is not a strong enough means by which to curb emissions of fossil fuels and is inferior to specifically stronger carbon taxes. While initially appealing, the notion of simply strengthening carbon taxes fails to properly stifle carbon emissions and to adequately incentivize green development in comparison to the cap and trade system, preventing carbon taxes from occupying a central role to mitigate carbon emissions. Carbon taxes are intended to drive down carbon emissions by creating a monetary cost to specific levels of emissions. These taxes are intended to extinguish the profitability of the goods associated with the emissions. While in theory, the passing of such taxes would stifle emissions, there are no set boundaries for total production. Exxon, for example, experienced a net profit of roughly 45 billion dollars in 2013 (Isidore) and is responsible for roughly 3% of all industrial emissions, dating from pre Revolutionary America (Greenpeace).
