The Case of Kelo v. City of New London
Eminent Dominant According to the facts, it seems that the sentiment of John (Cougar)
Mellencamp s hit in the 1984 fueled the controversies basing on the court s decision on June 23,
2005. The ruling stated that the local government or federal government was entitled to exercise
eminent dominant rules to enable them acquire private propertyand utilize it for purposes of
economic development. Eminent domainalso referred to as condemnation, is the act of taking
private property and making it public property by the local governing authority, state, or federal
government (Bradley 65). The private property taken away is converted to public property for
public use. With reference to the case of the Kelo v. city of New London, the court ruled that the
government should take private property through eminent domain for public use. This is due to the
provisions of Fifth Amendment of the U.S constitution. New London, Connecticut, could exercise
eminent domain for economic development. New London, Connecticut, was experiencing hard
economic times majorly due to the closure of the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, which
was the major employer in the region. This prompted a decrease in the tax base and population in
general. This made the city leaders desperate for some development in the city s economy.
Afterwards, a pharmaceutical giant Pfizer started to construct a facility used for research in the
outskirts of New London. This was the only chance for the city to activate the

What Are The Similarities Of The Abrahamic Religions
Abrahamic Religions Approximately 1800 B.C., early Hebrew religion in Asia area Since humans
existed on the Earth, they soon realized that they were too weak to stand the nature. When the
natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes happened, humans immediately related
to the superpowers that might trigger them. They believed in multiple Gods and sought protection
from their deities, and that was how polytheism gradually formed. Polytheism was practiced among
the Jewish up until God revealed Himself and passed the covenants to Abraham at Mount Sinai.
Abrahamic religions are known for practicing monotheism
The major religions of Abrahamic religions are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Although all three
has the same origin and worship only one true deity, they do not all explain their practice in the
same way. ............Consequently, the separation of Christianity and Islam from Judaism is
always a fascinating subject to study for decades. Christianity and Islam both have deep roots in
Judaism. Therefore, they do share the equal amount of similarities as well as differences with
Judaism. One of the most common belief among the three religions is to believe in one God as a
creator of the universe. On the other hand, each religion complies with its laws in different Holy
books. The Jews follow the teachings of the Torah and call their God as Yahweh. The Christians
refer to the Bible (also called the New Testament) as their Word of God, and believe in the Trinity

The Dark Matter, By Sir Isaac Newton
The universe is made mostly of dark matter and dark energy, and we don t what either of them is,
a quote by Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist Saul Perlmutter. Dark Matter is currently a
conundrum for modern physicist. Only 4% of our universe is known to us, which means 96% is
still a mystery. This paper will focus on the dark matterthat currently makes up 27% of our current
universe. To understand dark matter, we must understand how we came to identify dark matter.
From there we can understand where it came from, are there certain types of dark matter, the
current theories of dark matter and finally where do we go with our current understanding.
Sir Isaac Newton, in 1687 published Principia which would profoundly changed the way we ...

The fact that the stars are confined within the galaxy, even though their vertical velocities are
measured to be high enough, necessitates the presence of unseen mass in the galaxy . Swiss
astronomer, Fritz Zwicky, in 1933 was investigating a galaxy cluster. While making his
investigations in the galaxy cluster at Coma constellation 90 Mega parsecs (one million parsecs)
away and also at the cluster in Virgo constellation and calculated its gravitational mass using the
Virial Theorem. (2T=n{Vtot} He then used the mass luminosity relation of the stars of the
individual galaxies and estimated the mass of the luminous matter in each of the clusters. He
came up with a huge discrepancy between these two masses and predicted the existence of dark
invisible matter. He would call this invisible dark matter, dunkie Materie. At the time of this
proclamation was not widely accepted until a Bullet Cluster was observed. Authors report that the
cluster is undergoing a high velocity (around 4500 km/s) merger, evident from the spatial
distribution of the hot, x ray emitting gas, but this gas lags behind the sub cluster galaxies.
Furthermore, the dark matter clump, revealed by the weak lensing map, is coincident with the
collision less galaxies, but lies ahead of the collisional gas. This and other similar observations
allow good limits on the cross section of the self interaction of dark matter. Now that we have an

Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany
A Prayer for Owen Meany, a tragedy John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany tells the tragic tale
of Owen Meany, a peculiarly small boy through the eyes of his friend and classmate John
Wheelwright. John Irving creates a tragic effect through his use of third person narration,
foreshadowing, and symbolism. A Prayer for Owen Meanyis told from Owen s best friend s point
of view, John Wheelwright, however the novel revolves around Owen. The book opens with John
introducing Owen as someone who greatly impacted him, and saying I am a Christian because of
Owen Meany (1). This opening makes it clear that the narrator is writing this book because of
Owen Meany and that the story is centered around Owen. Throughout the book John idolizes and
idealizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen is a symbol of American ideals, so the loss of Owen is even more tragic because it also
stands for the loss of American ideals. Owen follows the Vietnam war and remembers
everything about it. In high school Owen is The Voice of the school newspaper and through his
participation in The Voice he expresses his ideas about the failures of America and comments
on other issues as well. Since Owen s ideas and commentary are cited as The Voice, he is
detached from who he is and he comes off as important and knowing, showing how he
symbolizes American ideals. The Voice is in line with American ideals because The Voice is
always calling out Gravesend Academy, which isn t egalitarian, and being egalitarian is a
fundamental American belief. For example, The Voice calls out the school for using a shrink for
those with learning difficulties IT SEEMS TO ME THAT PEOPLE WHO DON T LEARN AS
EASILY AS OTHERS SUFFER FROM A KIND OF LEARNING DISABILIY...WHAT DOES A
SHRINK HAVE TO DO WITH THAT PROCCESS? (310). This shows how Owen is a symbol of
American ideals. After Owen dies, John looses faith in America because he takes all the things
Owen used to say to heart and realized that American ideals were gone. He moves to Canada and
while in Canada he can t help but continue to read American newspapers and get frustrated. He
reads The Globe and Mail and says Since when did Mr. Reagan care about remaining within the law

Supervisory Job Application Paper
1.What is the background of the problem/opportunity/challenge? (major players, key events,
critical past decisions, etc.) I have been in my current supervisory position for about a year.
Before this I worked as a peer to those I now supervise. Sandy, the previous supervisor, had been
in the position for years and had a rigid approach to how work would be accomplished. There
was also perception that she enjoyed having those she supervised dislike or fear her. When I
started in the position I wanted to demonstrate that I felt differently about this supervisory role. I
feel that in trying to be less aggressive than Sandy I am not as directive as I should be. 2.Why is
this important to you? I want to do my job well. I feel that general

Character Analysis Of Shoofly Pie
When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves, which
was quoted by Viktor E. Frankl. The given quote compared to the character from the story, Shoofly
Pie, are similar, because of, it being related to the their given character development. This character
s name is Mattie, a girl who had recently experienced agony for her mother s death, found work at a
local cafe. Not much is known about Mattie at first other than her clumsiness, and anxiety, but
yet is admirable and enthusiastic to be working at the cafe. As we start to progress into the story,
we start to learn more about Mattie s past as she reveals them in memories and deja vu. As the
story is continuing, progressively gets exceptional at her job at the cafe, and also, interacts more
with her fellow workers, including her boss, Riyad. Mattie s stability starts to grow back again
as she becomes more comfortable with her work conditions. Even though at first a worker,
Sergio, gave Mattie a hard time, she shrugged it off as common crudeness, and hence, cared less
of it. This cycle continued for awhile longer, and in this case, continued her growth as a person to
where she became more restored than she was before she had gotten her job. In some situations,
Mattie had some confrontations with a couple of customers, but yet, always kept her motives
straight. When all seemed to be in balance and superb, another worker had returned from his

USAID Safe Mothers Program in Indonesia
SIAGA Campaigns Within Indonesia The US Agency for International Development also known
as USAID implemented a campaign in 1998 into Indonesia in order to promote a 5 year safe
motherhood program. This campaign involved the participation of not only USAID but the
Indonesian government, the National Family Planning Coordinating Board, and several NGO s.
The campaign was labeled as the Maternal and Neonatal Health Program (MNH) . This program
involved multiple campaigns including Warga SIAGA (Alert Citizen), Suami SIAGA (Alert
Husband), Bidan SIAGA (Alert Midwife), and Desa SIAGA (Alert Village) to ensure that women

Their recommended end line sample predicted having 3,226 members involved which included:
Women, husbands, midwives, and community influentials. The end line survey sample showed
that there were only 2,925 involved members of the same demographics. Despite the numbers
above, I would say that the organization positioned itself well within this campaign. Jhpiego s
mission statement reads, innovating to save lives which is exactly what this campaign was
centered around. ( Jhpiego.org ) They continue to further their goals to improve maternal,
newborn, and prenatal health in Indonesia today. Though the program did not reach it s overall
goals, I believe that their representation within Indonesia was and continues to be successful. The
entire campaign generated a behavior change that was present among Indonesians up until 1998.
Jhpiego, the company who coordinated the program is still working in Indonesia to treat
Eclampsia in mothers and newborns and is once again partnered with USAID.( Jhpiego.org )
Their efforts in this campaign include many of the same aspects of the SIAGA campaign
including midwives, and seeking early prenatal care. Jhpiego is working to this day in order to
effectively train midwives in Indonesia to better prepare them for emergencies. The continued
efforts of this organization being welcomed into the country over 15 years later, speaks to the
representation of this campaign. The success of the Eclampsia campaign, I believe can be

The Translations of Culture Through Language
Changes to one s culture over time are inevitable, especially when one s culture clashes with
another, as in the case of the British colonizing Nigeria. Learning English customs and education
has an influence on Igbo culture. As the Igbo begin to learn English attitudes, views, and history,
whether from another member of the society or by a formal education in school, they will
inevitably teach it to another member of the society. In doing so, they will have to describe this new
information by relating it to Igbo culture and will potentially alter their traditional customs. After
some time, this will drastically change the culture, and therefore the proverbs and stories handed
down to the next generation. The purpose of Chinua Achebe writing Things Fall Apart is to use
language as a carrier of culture using Igbo words, literal translations of Igbo phrases, and proverbs
in order to present Igbo culture as complex and unique, while shining a light on how one culture can
dominate and, in some ways, replace another culture.
The Igbo language is primarily based on the oral passing down of stories from generation to
generation, and does not have a long history of written language when compared to other
languages such as English. Achebe s goal was to address a Western audience, which makes
English, the lingua franca of Nigeria, his only option. In other words, Achebe s

High School Beta Club Speech
As a diverse student, in a very low income community I have always been known to standing up
for others, as well as for myself. Having this natural drive i found myself taking a huge role in
our high school Beta Club. As a natural leader, I was challenged with the opportunity to
represent our high school s Beta Club Chapter while running for North Carolina Beta Secretary.
Although I felt experienced as a leader, I was really nervous to get up in front of all of North
Carolina and give a speech at the Beta Club convention. Although I was nervous, I opened my
mouth, and the words just began to come out. My fears went away, and I addressed everyone on
topics of educational improvements and opportunities for all students to succeed. I used this... Show

process I learned a lot about what other states were dealing with and what students wanted out of
their education systems. I had knowledge about what the North Carolina education system was
going though, but I had no clue as to the depth of problems that other states were dealing with.
At this point, I decided to stand up for all the students in all states and address ten thousand
people during my national beta club campaign speech for secretary. As Nobel Peace prize winner
Malala Yousafzai said, I raise up my voice not so that I can shout, but so that those without a
voice can be heard . I wanted to advocate for opportunities that all students in this country should
have access to. I used my national campaign speech to talk about the issues, concerns, and dreams
of other students throughout the United States and wanted to project all of the voices that I had
listed to throughout this journey. I used my voice to advocate for others who did not have the
opportunity and I am now National Beta Club Secretary. In my role as National Secretary, I will

Pros And Cons Of Weathering Lab
Discussion and Conclusion: I hypothesized that the four limestones being introduced to the four
different solutions used in this chemical weathering lab would weather at different rates. First, in
cup one, it was hypothesized that the 50% vinegar solution will have the greatest amount of
chemical weathering on the limestone, because the 50% vinegar solution is the strongest and most
like actual acid rains. Next, in cup two, it was hypothesized that the 10% vinegar solution will have
less chemical weatheringeffects than cup one, because the 10% vinegar solution has less chemical
weathering strength compared to the 50% solution. Additionally, in cup three, it was hypothesized
that the soda water solution will have less chemical weathering... Show more content on

It is seen all around us from headstones, to national parks, to the Statue of Liberty. First, chemical
weathering is one of the main reasons cemeteries commonly use a quartz or granite headstone
instead of limestone for today s memorial markers. The older limestone based markers have
shown they deteriorate over time from environmental factors, such as chemical weathering, and
become difficult or even impossible to read (Best Materials for Gravestones). This is also true of
many older monuments. Next, chemical weathering can be seen in national parks. In Carlsbad,
New Mexico, the Carlsbad Caverns were created due to chemical weathering. They were formed
by sulfuric acid that dissolved limestone (National Geographic, 2011). Finally, chemical weathering
is also prevalent on the Statue of Liberty. The weathering of the copper of the statue has caused
oxidation resulting in a thin layer of patina on Lady Liberty (Why is the Statue of Libery Green?).
Weathering is a natural process and some sources of chemical weathering are natural; however
some causes of chemical weathering are from human activities. Chemical compounds released into
the air contribute to chemical weathering. These compounds can come from the emissions from
factories, power plants, and automobiles. Chemical weathering speeds up the weathering process
and is changing the Earth s

Theme Of Human Nature In Franz Kafka
The most fatalities in human nature are greedy and selfish. Human is known for neglect, or
throw things away when it becomes nonfunctional. Franz Kafka analyzed psychological human
behavior beyond the fictional story. The reader experiences a deeper meaning of suppressed
desires which are stored in our subconscious mind. Protagonist Gregor gets transformed into a
monstrous bug seems fantasy story at first glance, but if you dive deep into the Metamorphosis ,
it reveals the dilemma of human s subconscious mind as suppression of desires. The equation of
human relationship changed, people show up their frustration, and ready to give away
nonfunctional existence. Thus, revealing facts of human nature creates a bitter taste in the life.
The way equation of human relationship changes due to selfish nature, its classic example is
Samsa family. The transformation into a bug is a symbol of subconsciously suppressed desires.
As long Gregor was earning good money and providing quite a decent life to his family the
harmony between Gregor and his family was exemplary. By doing so, Gregor has given up or
suppressed his many desires. Before the transformation into the bug Kafka talks, When Gregor
Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a
monstrous vermin ( pg. 3, I) . The unsettled dream is a symbol of Gregor s subdued mental
condition. Gregor is ready to protest his present living situation. If you

financial world and appeared at The Wall Street Journal , Time , Fortune ,
Business Week and to research the traits of leadership style of a huge technological company, along
with mechanisms of implementation of such a leadership approach and manners in which the entire

Graduated with MBA diploma from Harvard School of Business. From that she became one of
the planet s most successful CEO and powerful leader. Prior to HP Meg held CEO and leading

The Effect of Political Machines on the Democratic System

bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced,
because they love their servitude To make them love it is the task assigned Aldous Huxley
(Quotes, 1). Through the strong sarcasm in this statement the negative effect political bosses have

Also, Tammany Hall was run by only a small percentage of the population, wealthy, privileged,
white males. People in other classes were not represented and had no say, which therefore went
against the basis of democracy where everyone is supposed to have an equal say and equal rights.
A statistic that shows us just how corrupt Tammany Hall was, is that it is believed to have conned
New York Cityout of somewhere between 30 200 million dollars (about.com, 1). Having such
dishonest and deceitful leaders definitely goes against the democratic system, which is all about
being honest. Another political machine that went against the principles of democracy was that of
Edward Crump.
In Memphis, Tennessee, through his political machine Crump controlled everything. That in itself
is one of the things that negatively impacted the democratic system. All of the peoples power
was in one man, which is too much power for one person to have in a democracy. Also, with this
power Crump mistreated those lower than him. For example, when he arrived at sporting events
the crowd was expected to cheer, and he ordered the people to address him as Boss when talking to
him. This is undemocratic since all this power is concentrated in one man, whereas in a

to a given atmospheric pollutant. Obtained value then was multiplied by population (106). AP is
proven causative correlation between health consequences and air pollutant exposure. We used

Nationalism In The 20th Century
Evaluate the political role of Nationalism in the 20th Century was it more important as a force for
unification or disintegration.
Nationalism can be described as a mix, multidimensional morally developed or created concept
involving a shared common identification with one s Nation. It is more on politically motivated
towards working and maintaining self governance, or full sovereignty, working towards to a
specific land or a territory of historical significance to the group such as land and its belongings.
In simple Nationalism is a nation command and lead itself, free from foreign influence, it is the
concept of self rule. Nationalism is further formed towards maintaining and developing a
Sovereignty based on shared features such as religion, language, race, culture, or either political
goals or a belief in a customary ancestry. So its pride towards nation s achievements, and the
concept in world history has shown positive and negative impact, moreover in a political dimension
it leads either unification or disintegration.

America s Role In World War I
What triggered World War I? The main reason still remains unanswered. World War I was one of
the most horrific wars that the world has ever experienced. The war was fought in Europe between
Germany, Russia, France, Great Britain, the U.S. and many others. Militarism, alliance systems and
imperialist were some of the causes that set off the one of the greatest wars in the history of the

Militarism played a vast role in WWI. Since Germany s nation was industrialized, they invested

Although the United States embarked on a famine relief program in the Soviet Union in the early

Analysis Of Argument Against Headphones By Virginia Heffernan
Analysis of Argument Against Headphones A century has passed since the creation of headphones,
yet they have only recently come under fire. Headphones provide a way for people to listen to
music, audiobooks, and podcasts privately without disrupting others around them. However, all of
this private listening may soon fall on deaf ears. In Virginia Heffernan s article Against Headphones
, she presents an argument stating that although headphones are useful in some professions, they
cause substantial hearingloss, especially in young people. The formulated argument is effective and
valid, and incorporates ethos, logos, and opposing viewpoints with rebuttals.

Heffernan also illustrates how headphones work, stating, when an audio current passes through the
device s voice coil, it creates an alternating magnetic field that moves a stiff, light diaphragm
(Heffernan, 2011). Describing the history of headphones and how the technology works portrays
Heffernan as a reasonable author with a deep understanding of her subject matter, which earns the
trust and respect of the audience.
Logos
Incorporating logical appeals into her writing allows Heffernan to reach a larger audience by
providing factual support as backing for the argument. The author writes, the number of teenagers
with hearing loss... has jumped 33 percent since 1994 (Heffernan, 2011). By using a statistic as a
logical premise in support of prohibiting headphones, the author sheds light on the harsh reality of
headphone use: more young people experience hearing loss. When discussing the history of
headphones, the author states, workers and soldiers have long used [headphones] to mute out the
din of machinery or artillery while receiving one way orders from someone with a microphone
(Heffernan, 2011). Heffernan recognizes a factual use of headphones while at the same time
acknowledging that headphones are useful in some instances, which helps to strengthen her
argument. Heffernan then goes on to say, headphone users who listen to

Automated Guided Vehicle Or Automatic Guided Vehicles
Automated Guidance
An automated guided vehicle or automatic guided vehicle (AGV) is essentially a vehicle that
follows markers or wires in the floor, or uses vision, magnets, or lasers for navigation. They are
most often used in industrial applications to move materials around a manufacturing facility or
warehouse. Application of the automatic guided vehicle has broadened during the late 20th century.
The AGV can tow objects behind them in trailers to which they can autonomously attach. The
trailers can be used to move raw materials or finished product. The AGV can also store objects on
a bed. The objects can be placed on a set of motorized rollers (conveyor) and then pushed off by
reversing them. AGVs are employed in nearly every industry, including, pulp, paper, metals,
newspaper, and general manufacturing. Transporting materials such as food, linen or medicine in
hospitals is also done.
An AGV can also be called a laser guided vehicle (LGV). Lower cost versions of AGVs are often
called Automated Guided Carts (AGCs) and are usually guided by magnetic tape. AGCs are
available in a variety of models and can be used to move products on an assembly line, transport
goods throughout a plant or warehouse, and deliver loads.
Over the years, the technology has become more sophisticated, this technology can be suitably
adapted for cars on the streets. In an automated process, AGVs are programmed to communicate

Brook continued his work in television and as a result continued to make character that would
revolutionize the way the typical American looks at woman s role. One of Brooks most long lasting
and most popular television shows, The Simpsons, is and award winning and depicts an atypical
family struggling with a pleather of wacky characters and a slightly dysfunctional family, the

Motivations In Antigone By Sophocles
Ever wondered how far your motivations could take you? Antigone, a famous play written by
Sophocles, introduces the audience to various characters who push the limits with their
motivations, despite the consequences. We, the audience, are shown two major characters, a
determined woman, Antigone, who goes to extremes for her family, and Creon, a stubborn king who
believes in protecting his city Thebes. Creon creates a rule that both Antigones brothers, Polyneices
and Eteocles must both alternately fulfill the title of king of Thebes, and ends in Polyneices death
because of a battle that arose between the brothers which resulted in a demand for Polyneices to
remain unburied by Creon, which influenced Antigones determination to give Polyneices a proper
burial, resulting in the death of Antigone and Creon s family members. I believe Creon is the
tragic hero because although he was doing what he thought was right to defend the people of
Thebes and fulfill his duty as a ruler, he resulted in losing his loved ones and ending up alone.
Creon becomes the king of Thebes, and because of this, he wants to protect his people. Despite his
desire to remain loyal to his citizens, Creon doesn t take advice or input from anyone. Creon puts
himself above everyone, including the gods, taking advantage of his title. Creon states, We must
obey those whom the city has ordained to be its leaders. We should obey them, unquestioningly, in
all things, minor or great, those we agree with

Mark Hamill Accomplishments
Before I mentioned that Mark Hamill hasn t had many major on screen roles but he has had a
very successful career as a voice actor and is mainly famous for voicing the Joker in Batman:
The Animated Series and Batman: Arkham video game series. He has been voicing the Joker
for 18 years in nearly every project, as fans get grumpy when somebody else is cast in his stead.
(Forbes.com, 2015). He is adored by fans as the quote by Forbes states, people want him that

Mark Hamill is a cult star because of whom he played in Star Wars. By playing Luke Skywalker
he made his career but at the same time ruined it because everyone knew who he was and he was
known worldwide but not the actor he is. Instead of gaining his own identity of Mark Hamill,
the actor, he was tied to the identity Luke Skywalker for a few different reasons such as facial
scars and not having many other on screen roles compared to his co stars. This directly impacted
him in a few roles because people didn t want Luke Skywalker in their film. He is a cult star
because he has a loyal fan base for both Star Wars and the Animated BatmanSeries as the voice of
the Joker. He is classed as a cult star because of the voice acting, just because it isn t a on screen

The Usefulness of YAH Maps
1Discussions
It was also difficult to isolate the effect of YAH maps in way finding, since personal characteristic,
past experience of using YAH maps, educational background and familiarity with the building might
have influence the results. Therefore, the participant answered some question related to these
factors. There is opportunity to extend the current study by examining the questions outlined above,
although this is beyond the scope of this investigation.
1.1Discussion experiment one: How useful are YAH maps in solving a spatial task?
Using YAH maps in solving the way finding task could improve the timeperformance of
completing and estimating the task. By looking at YAH mapparticipates could get at least an idea
where they should go and which way they should follow. Moreover they could choose the shortest
path based on the map .The result of this study shows that the average time for completing task
from source to destination for Group A which could use YAH map are less than Group B(Table 4).
However, the difference is not too much. Additionally, YAH maps are useful for choosing the path
and estimating the time. Based on our results, participants in group A predict the time that they
need for completing the task more precisely compare to group B (Table5).
Choosing the path to destination based on YAH map could shows the usefulness of YAH maps.
People who choose the path based on YAH maps information spend less time compare to other. In

The Great Gatsby Comparison
Leonardo Dicaprio, the rich handsome movie star was the cast choice made by Bazz Luhrmann
for the role of Jay Gatsby in the 2013 remake of the American Classic The Great Gatsby . Tobey
Maguire is the soft spoken, seldom talked about star of the movie remake. His portrayal of the
quiet Nick Carraway, who turns out to be Gatsby s best friend is spot on with the character he
was portraying. Some people will say the two main stream actors could not see the movie for the
true piece of art the book was, but I think that the casting choices for Nick and Jay perfectly
exemplified the two characters personalities in a way that no other actors could. Everyone at some
point in their lives has had their attention caught by tabloid magazines that... Show more content on

So when Tobey Maguire was given the task of bringing this character to life, he immediately
accepted. For starters, the movie opens up with Nick being treated in a mental institution. And
almost right away, Tobey helps bring out the personality of Nick. He creates the feeling that
Nick is this confused, shy individual that needs sympathy. When Nick introduces his house and
where he just moved in to, Tobey Maguire sells the character perfectly. He says, I lived at West
Egg, the well, the least fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express
the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them. My house was at the very tip of the
egg, only fifty yards from the Sound, and squeezed between two huge places that rented for twelve
or fifteen thousand a season. The one on my right was a colossal affair by any standard ... My own
house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore, and it had been overlooked, so I had a view of the
water, a partial view of my neighbor s lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires all for
eighty dollars a month (). In this quote, Nick is saying how he lives in a very small house
surrounded by millionaires, and you can feel how he is suffocated by all of these rich people. In
the film version, Tobey perfectly shows the underlying emotion of Nick Carraway s dialogue in
which no other actor could. He shows Nick s

Pros And Consequences Of Privatization
What drives the movement for privatization? In the past few decades, countries around the world
have taken action to privatize their services. It is believed that privatization creates markets that
allow companies to compete, and contribute to the economy. The idea is to cede ownership of
public services to the private sector; where competition will drive innovation, and reduce costs for
the government and the taxpayer alike. That being said, in some cases privatizationdoes not create a
real market where competition occurs, or is even feasible. Privatizing these services can
deteriorate quality and increase costs for those who require their use. This way, it is possible to
limit a service to those who can afford them. While privatization can,... Show more content on

As shown in Prisons, Privatization, Patronage by Paul Krugman, privatization can have negative
consequences. These privatized prisons are understaffed and poorly run. There are have been
convicts escaping prison and minor offenders suffering in the hands of other prisoners (Krugman).
These prisons also show very little reduction in costs, as opposed to state funded prisons and the
little savings come from understaffing and underpaying their employees (Krugman). In this case,
privatization was used for the benefit of private companies who are making a profit, as well as the
government who does not have to invest money in prisons. However, this is done at the expense of
those receiving the service.
Moreover, privatization can limit a service to a certain group of people. As argued by Gary
Haugen in The Privatization of Justice , private services can be limited to the wealthy. In many
developing countries police enforcement is sometimes limited. In some areas, people looking to
protect themselves and their property hire their own protection (Haugen). This is great for
companies who now have access to this new market, allowing them to make money and create jobs.
However, many people cannot afford private protection, making justice available only for the

Four Principles Of Sustainable Tourism, By Mowforth And Munt

Ecological sustainability it refers to minimization or elimination of tourism impact on environment.
This can be done by using techniques and tools such as carrying capacity and/or establishment of
protected areas and zones as well as visitor management techniques and many others.
Economic sustainability Tourism must bring economic incentives to a host country`s economy,
drive it to economic development and economic prosperity. Tourism must create workplaces for all,
including vulnerable strata of a society such as women and young people and/or young specialists.

Industry regulation the tourism industry and its practices must be regulated and controlled. For that

Solutions To Reduce Gun Violence
When we lose family, friends, or neighbors to gun violence, we feel tremendous pain. When we
read about an innocent bystander who will never walk again because of a stray bullet, we are
rightly outraged. But gun violence doesn t only shake us emotionally and morally, it also imposes
enormous financial costs and generates a vicious cycle of fear and flight that damages our economy.
The good news is this cycle can be reversed. Proven solutions exist to reduce gun violence in our
communities while respecting law abiding, responsible gun owners. These include smart gun laws
like universal background checks and community based violence intervention strategies that work
directly with the individuals and neighborhoods most at risk of gun violence. I am going to
propose (8) eight solutions that will reduce or halt gun violence in the state of Ohio.
The first solution is the securing of firearms. Because Ohio is a state or access to weapon is easy.
One must be sure that people are protected and trained to have licenses. This training must be
compulsory for each person who wishes to own a firearm. Each year, firearms owners must fire their
firearms and check their background, firearms and bullets.
The second solution is the mental capacity of each owner of a firearm. One must ensure that each
gun owner has a mental faculty that allows him to control. Children, young people, and adults have
access to a quality of health.
The third solution is to put

Beyond these essentials, I believe it is clear our federal government is overgrown and

Total Compensation Is The Monetary And Nonmonetary Rewards
Total compensation is the monetary and nonmonetary rewards offered to employees. Therefore, this
can help the organization be effective or prevent it from being effective. Consequently, the purpose
of this paper is to briefly analyze the positive and negative effects of total compensation. Total
compensation influences productivity in numerous ways. For instance, compensation practices that
link pay to the company s financial performance or other indicators of productivity can help focus
employees attention on finding new ways to reduce costs and increase revenues (Jackson, S. E.,
Schuler, R. S., Werner, S. 2012). Two preferred ways employees contain cost is by changing the pay

As a result, this increases the talent pool and can make them an employer of choice among their
competition.
A total compensation system could prevent an organization from being effective in several ways;
for instance, if their total compensation package is not aligning with the employee needs, total
compensation influences employee attraction, motivation, and retention. However, the importance
of the various components depend on the person and his or her situation (Jackson, S. E., Schuler, R.
S., Werner, S. 2012). The compensation system within an organization should align to the overall
Business plan to achieve expected results. In other words, the total compensation includes: base
pay, performance based pay, benefits and services, and nonmonetary rewards. All of this together
should reach a balance; otherwise, the expected results would be devastating. During recession,
many Americans suffered, and the economy pressured many organizations to cut workers.
However, experts on the matter explain, In light of the massive number of layoffs, pay cuts look
like the more humane cost cutting tactic because they save jobs. UCLA management professor

On examination, Mrs. K. is pale and clammy sitting upright in a chair. She has bibasilar crackles to
her scapulae, and her heart rhythm is irregularly irregular. She has pitting edema bilaterally to her
thighs, jugular venous pulsation to the earlobe, and bilateral infiltrates. An ECG shows a left
ventricular ejection fraction of 78% with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with the limits of Amiodarone, it is often used as the first line drug of choice for A Fib and
those that are hemodynamically unstable. Amiodarone is a vasodilator and can increase cardiac
output. However, it will not significantly change the ejection fraction which is good since Mrs. K.
s is 78% (normal approximately 55 75%)
c. I did not see any treatments for her A Fib. There is no mention of thombolytics or anti
coagulants. This should also be considered for treatment.
2. Based on her presentation, physical assessment and hemodynamic number, was Mrs. K.
experiencing left or right sided failure, or both?
a. Both. Based on what is presented. She has JVD an indication of right sided failure because the
heart is unable to pump the massive amount of fluid coming from the body to the right side of the
heart. There is too much fluid for the right ventricle to pump into the pulmonary arteries. And
because of the A fib, it is not being pumped efficiently.
b. She is experiencing left sided failure as shown by the increased PAP and the bibasilar crackles
heard on auscultation. The fluid can t get into the left side of the heart and is backing up into the
lungs. Left sided failure is also indicated by the reduced cardiac index. The heart is not able to get
the fluid out to the body.
3. What role did atrial fibrillation play in Mrs. K. s heart failure?
a. This may have been answered in another question, but the atria s aren t pumping. In layman s

Political Racism And The Consequences
Racism and the consequences
The Republicans have used the voting rights laws to create gerrymandered bleached white districts
that favor radical right wing conservative Republicans. While jamming minorities into a few
districts primarily black that preclude whites from even running for office in those districts because
minorities will not generally vote for white democrats if a black is running. Hence the complete
control of both houses of the legislature by the radical Republicans. That is why you don t see
many white Democrats in the legislature.
In addition, in statewide elections the vote s falls about 50 50 between Democrats and Republicans
and therefore you should have about the same ratio in both houses of the legislature. We don t

Advantages And Disadvantages Of PFC Transverter
The objective of the control circuit for PFC converter are a near unity power factor should flow and
a steady average voltage should maintain at the output. Literature is abounded with novel PFC
control methods that address these objectives. These control methods can segmented into a few
categories in terms of their implementation approach and structures. Such as the multi loop
multiplier approach, the cycle by cycle integration approach, the single loop control approach and
the sliding mode controlapproach. Under these categories, some common PFC converter control
methods are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages of those methods [].
2.1.1.1Single loop approach
Single loop control methods allowed a single voltage control loop to regulate the output voltage.
The input current shaping is accomplished in an open loop manner, the duty cycle patterns are
predefined by considering in ideal PFC operation. One example in this control method is the duty
phase control (DPC) proposed by Chen [42]. In this method, a phase shift is willingly introduced to
the stored duty cycle patterns. The output voltage is regulated by adjusting this phase shift by using
the output of the voltage error amplifier, which is named the duty phase . This approach simplified
the control structure and eliminated the current loop, without the need to ... Show more content on

In this control method, the error voltage is integrated twice and to generate the reference signal for
current tracking, this signal referred to as the nonlinear carrier signal. In the current shaping,
instead of the sensed switch current for comparison, the sensed current is integrated to obtain an
average value before being compared with the nonlinear carrier signal. This approach reduces the
input current distortion and the noise immunity. Its physical realization is more complicated than

Kyoto Protocol And Global Warming
In December 1997, Kyoto protocol was signed to address global warming specifically. Global
warming is the gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its
oceans due to green house gases emissions. (NRDC, 2005) In the past 100 years, the rate of global
warming is unprecedented. In fact, global warminghas become one of the most challenging
environmental problems in the 21st century. In order to effectively address this issue, international
cooperation is necessary. Through international cooperation, undeveloped countries are able to
overcome financial obstacles in meeting their targets. In addition, it could also promote worldwide
technology sharing, data foundations and public awareness of climate change.... Show more content

For starters, modern economy relies heavily on fossil fuels, which is a main resource that
contributes to global warming. Adopting renewable energy might sharply reduce GHG
emissions. However, according to international energy agency, switching from fossil fuels to
low carbon sources of energy will cost $44 trillion between now and 2050 (IEA, 2009). In case
44 trillion is too abstract, 1 trillion dollar can fill up an entire soccer field and stack more than
10 feet high. This cost could be intimidating for any country. Moreover, the cost also depends on
how long it takes for us to start reducing emissions. The IPCC report showed that continuing to
hold off on reducing emissions could increase costs by 40 percent (IPCC, 2008) For developing
countries, this cost would be a financial burden and a limiting reagent on GDP growth. Socially,
civilian s life quality will be affected by the GDP reduction. As a result, it becomes more
challenging for countries to take initiative in addressing this problem. The question eventually came
down to whom should bear the astronomical cost? Are we willing to invest in something that might
cost more than its benefits?
Evaluation on its Successfulness
The achievements of Kyoto Protocol have been controversial. Nevertheless, the agreement has had
a mix of success. In order to evaluate its successfulness, we need data of the emission level of
Annex I parties from 1990 to 2012 explicitly. As a result, the United States did not ratify the

Stock Car Racing
Racing has been a beloved sport for many years, by many people in America. People are able to
release their stress and focus on a hobby with friends and family by racing many different forms of
vehicles. Overtime, racing safety standards have changed and become stricter in order to prevent
fatalities. Unfortunately, there are many dangers involved in racing. As time progresses, so does
the modern technology of many different forms of racing. Many different types of racecars are
getting faster, and in turn making them much more unsafe. Although, some may argue that as the
motorsports industry gets faster, the safety technology also gets more effective. The National
Association for Stock Car Racing (NASCAR) is one of the most popular forms of... Show more

With over 75 million viewers, they must stay on top of safety to ensure no one is hurt on live
television or at the racetrack with families out having a great time. The sport is not about people
getting hurt, and it is time that drivers and families are able to enjoy all types of racing,
including NASCAR without the worry of fatality. Although there is not a quick and cheap fix to
preventing fatalities in racing, it is important that technology is being put to its best use to
lessen the chances. NASCAR has came a long way in safety since the death of Dale Earnhardt.
Earnhardt s death was a huge and unfortunate wake up call to track owners, families, and drivers.
If they are going to race these cars, they need to utilize the safety technology available to them.
New and improved safety technology for racing comes at a steep cost, but it is hard to put a
price on life. The Peltzman effect is a very interesting theory, which views new safety rules and
regulations and how they increase dangers in other forms. It was found after NASCAR made the
HANS device a requirement after Earnhardt s death, that cautions while racing were more
common. This Peltzman effect makes people rebel and become more dangerous because they are
implementing a new safety mechanism. This could be because they feel more safe in their
racecars, or that they believe it is unfair they have to use the new

The Sled Reached The Bottom Of The Hill
The sled reached the bottom of the hill and slowly slid to a stop. Light snowflakes fell in
dizzying patterns around Jonas, blurring his already troubled vision. The ground seemed to sway,
to turn, to move. His head felt light, his limbs numb, and his body cold. He tried to stand, to get
off of the sled, but his body refused to listen.
Jonas felt something moving in his lap, and Gabe s blond head popped up in front of him, his
features fuzzy and his voice incoherent. Jonas tried to talk to him, to comfort him and tell him he
was alright, but even his voice was unresponsive. The words were right there, caught in his throat,
and it brought tears to his eyes that he could not let them out.
Gabe grabbed Jonas hand, and even though he knew the toddler was freezing, his touch felt fiery
hot on Jonas skin. I m dying thought Jonas, tears now freely rolling down his cheeks, only to
freeze there in the cold wind. He knew there was no escaping it, that his time had come.
He was glad that the memories would now go back to the community, and that the Giver would be
there to help the people cope with them.
He knew the Giver would teach them how do deal with emotions and memories and how to use
them in good ways. There was just something Jonas felt he should be concerned about, something
important to him.
A small hand came up and rested on Jonas tear soaked face. It was Gabe s. Jonas jumped, startled
as he remembered the toddler sitting with him on the sled. He began to panic,

manufacturers that develop liquid biocide chemicals for eliminating microorganisms in
metalworking fluids. The company currently manufactures the Kathon 886 MW concentrate
biocide, the leading biocide in the concentrate biocide market. Kathon 886 MW is a very

How Did Muhammad Ali Influence On African American Society
Imagine being an African American person living in a world of segregation but he still has a
dream, a dream to become a boxer in a league predominantly white and being looked down on
because of his skin color. Segregation in the 1900 s was cruel and divided because After the Civil
War, millions of enslaved African Americans hoped to join the larger society as equal citizens but
unfortunately were not embraced as equals by much of white America (History Staff). Nearly 100
years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans in southern states still lived in an
unequal world of segregation.
Many leaders of the African Americansociety became famous during the Civil Rights era, including
Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks just to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On March 8, 1971, Ali got his chance to regain his heavyweight crown against reigning champ Joe
Frazier in what was billed as the Fight of the Century. (History Staff). Ali s hiatus proved he still
had the skill to be the champion
On August 11, 1970, with his case still in appeal, Ali was granted a license to box by the City of
Atlanta Athletic Commission, thanks to State Senator Leroy R. Johnson. Ali s first return bout
was against Jerry Quarry on October 26, resulting in a win after three rounds. Less than a month
earlier, a win in court forced the New York Boxing Commission to give Ali his license back
because his ban tenure ended (History Staff.) Muhammad Ali was named the one of the greatest
heavyweight champion in boxing history by Ring Magazine in 1987. Besides being an amazing
boxer, he was a people person and outspoken figure who took championships and won.
Ali was a colorful person and played a major role in the social revolution that conspired during the
1960 s. As a musician, Ali recorded two albums and a rhythm and blues song, and received two

Ratification Of The Emancipation Proclamation
In 1862, Abraham Lincoln formally recognized that he needed a clever tactic to address the
institution of slavery without either side thinking that he was favoring one nation over the other.
Lincoln knew that he needed to have a moderate strategy because a more aggressive policy would
alienate Border State Unionists and War Democrats whose support he saw as essential to the Union
war effort, according one a class reading. However, after trying to negotiate with the Confederacy
over the course of several months, the president s only way to combat the division was to draft the
Emancipation Proclamation. The events leading up to the ratification and enforcement of the
Proclamation prove that freeing the slaves was a long, arduous process that affected both sides (the
Union and the Confederacy) in several ways over the following years of the war. The most
prominent effect of Lincoln passing the Emancipation Proclamation was that it made the war about
slavery. Though there was much controversy in the first few months over what actually caused the
Civil War, ratifying and issuing the final Proclamation officially shifted the focus from states right
and the reach of the federal government to the race struggle between the white and the enslaved.
Almost instantly, the Emancipation Proclamation created a deeper divide between the Union and
the Confederacy. The Confederates assumed that this was Lincoln s original war aim and attacked
him with constant criticism and disapproval.

  • 2. The Case of Kelo v. City of New London Eminent Dominant According to the facts, it seems that the sentiment of John (Cougar) Mellencamp s hit in the 1984 fueled the controversies basing on the court s decision on June 23, 2005. The ruling stated that the local government or federal government was entitled to exercise eminent dominant rules to enable them acquire private propertyand utilize it for purposes of economic development. Eminent domainalso referred to as condemnation, is the act of taking private property and making it public property by the local governing authority, state, or federal government (Bradley 65). The private property taken away is converted to public property for public use. With reference to the case of the Kelo v. city of New London, the court ruled that the government should take private property through eminent domain for public use. This is due to the provisions of Fifth Amendment of the U.S constitution. New London, Connecticut, could exercise eminent domain for economic development. New London, Connecticut, was experiencing hard economic times majorly due to the closure of the U.S. Naval Undersea Warfare Center, which was the major employer in the region. This prompted a decrease in the tax base and population in general. This made the city leaders desperate for some development in the city s economy. Afterwards, a pharmaceutical giant Pfizer started to construct a facility used for research in the outskirts of New London. This was the only chance for the city to activate the ... • 3. What Are The Similarities Of The Abrahamic Religions Abrahamic Religions Approximately 1800 B.C., early Hebrew religion in Asia area Since humans existed on the Earth, they soon realized that they were too weak to stand the nature. When the natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes happened, humans immediately related to the superpowers that might trigger them. They believed in multiple Gods and sought protection from their deities, and that was how polytheism gradually formed. Polytheism was practiced among the Jewish up until God revealed Himself and passed the covenants to Abraham at Mount Sinai. Abrahamic religions are known for practicing monotheism The major religions of Abrahamic religions are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Although all three has the same origin and worship only one true deity, they do not all explain their practice in the same way. ............Consequently, the separation of Christianity and Islam from Judaism is always a fascinating subject to study for decades. Christianity and Islam both have deep roots in Judaism. Therefore, they do share the equal amount of similarities as well as differences with Judaism. One of the most common belief among the three religions is to believe in one God as a creator of the universe. On the other hand, each religion complies with its laws in different Holy books. The Jews follow the teachings of the Torah and call their God as Yahweh. The Christians refer to the Bible (also called the New Testament) as their Word of God, and believe in the Trinity ... The Dark Matter, By Sir Isaac Newton The universe is made mostly of dark matter and dark energy, and we don t what either of them is, a quote by Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist Saul Perlmutter. Dark Matter is currently a conundrum for modern physicist. Only 4% of our universe is known to us, which means 96% is still a mystery. This paper will focus on the dark matterthat currently makes up 27% of our current universe. To understand dark matter, we must understand how we came to identify dark matter. From there we can understand where it came from, are there certain types of dark matter, the current theories of dark matter and finally where do we go with our current understanding. Sir Isaac Newton, in 1687 published Principia which would profoundly changed the way we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that the stars are confined within the galaxy, even though their vertical velocities are measured to be high enough, necessitates the presence of unseen mass in the galaxy . Swiss astronomer, Fritz Zwicky, in 1933 was investigating a galaxy cluster. While making his investigations in the galaxy cluster at Coma constellation 90 Mega parsecs (one million parsecs) away and also at the cluster in Virgo constellation and calculated its gravitational mass using the Virial Theorem. (2T=n{Vtot} He then used the mass luminosity relation of the stars of the individual galaxies and estimated the mass of the luminous matter in each of the clusters. He came up with a huge discrepancy between these two masses and predicted the existence of dark invisible matter. He would call this invisible dark matter, dunkie Materie. At the time of this proclamation was not widely accepted until a Bullet Cluster was observed. Authors report that the cluster is undergoing a high velocity (around 4500 km/s) merger, evident from the spatial distribution of the hot, x ray emitting gas, but this gas lags behind the sub cluster galaxies. Furthermore, the dark matter clump, revealed by the weak lensing map, is coincident with the collision less galaxies, but lies ahead of the collisional gas. This and other similar observations allow good limits on the cross section of the self interaction of dark matter. Now that we have an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foreshadowing In A Prayer For Owen Meany A Prayer for Owen Meany, a tragedy John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany tells the tragic tale of Owen Meany, a peculiarly small boy through the eyes of his friend and classmate John Wheelwright. John Irving creates a tragic effect through his use of third person narration, foreshadowing, and symbolism. A Prayer for Owen Meanyis told from Owen s best friend s point of view, John Wheelwright, however the novel revolves around Owen. The book opens with John introducing Owen as someone who greatly impacted him, and saying I am a Christian because of Owen Meany (1). This opening makes it clear that the narrator is writing this book because of Owen Meany and that the story is centered around Owen. Throughout the book John idolizes and idealizes... Owen follows the Vietnam war and remembers everything about it. In high school Owen is The Voice of the school newspaper and through his participation in The Voice he expresses his ideas about the failures of America and comments on other issues as well. Since Owen s ideas and commentary are cited as The Voice, he is detached from who he is and he comes off as important and knowing, showing how he symbolizes American ideals. The Voice is in line with American ideals because The Voice is always calling out Gravesend Academy, which isn t egalitarian, and being egalitarian is a fundamental American belief. For example, The Voice calls out the school for using a shrink for those with learning difficulties IT SEEMS TO ME THAT PEOPLE WHO DON T LEARN AS EASILY AS OTHERS SUFFER FROM A KIND OF LEARNING DISABILIY...WHAT DOES A SHRINK HAVE TO DO WITH THAT PROCCESS? • 9. Things Fall Apart Analysis Emily Webb Prof. Alfred Lutz ENGL 2030 H01 28 September 2017 The Translations of Culture Through Language Changes to one s culture over time are inevitable, especially when one s culture clashes with another, as in the case of the British colonizing Nigeria. Learning English customs and education has an influence on Igbo culture. As the Igbo begin to learn English attitudes, views, and history, whether from another member of the society or by a formal education in school, they will inevitably teach it to another member of the society. In doing so, they will have to describe this new information by relating it to Igbo culture and will potentially alter their traditional customs. After some time, this will drastically change the culture, and therefore the proverbs and stories handed down to the next generation. The purpose of Chinua Achebe writing Things Fall Apart is to use language as a carrier of culture using Igbo words, literal translations of Igbo phrases, and proverbs in order to present Igbo culture as complex and unique, while shining a light on how one culture can dominate and, in some ways, replace another culture. The Igbo language is primarily based on the oral passing down of stories from generation to generation, and does not have a long history of written language when compared to other languages such as English. Achebe s goal was to address a Western audience, which makes English, the lingua franca of Nigeria, his only option. In other words, Achebe s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is seen all around us from headstones, to national parks, to the Statue of Liberty. First, chemical weathering is one of the main reasons cemeteries commonly use a quartz or granite headstone instead of limestone for today s memorial markers. The older limestone based markers have shown they deteriorate over time from environmental factors, such as chemical weathering, and become difficult or even impossible to read (Best Materials for Gravestones). This is also true of many older monuments. Next, chemical weathering can be seen in national parks. In Carlsbad, New Mexico, the Carlsbad Caverns were created due to chemical weathering. They were formed by sulfuric acid that dissolved limestone (National Geographic, 2011). Finally, chemical weathering is also prevalent on the Statue of Liberty. The weathering of the copper of the statue has caused oxidation resulting in a thin layer of patina on Lady Liberty (Why is the Statue of Libery Green?). Weathering is a natural process and some sources of chemical weathering are natural; however some causes of chemical weathering are from human activities. Chemical compounds released into the air contribute to chemical weathering. These compounds can come from the emissions from factories, power plants, and automobiles. Franz Kafka analyzed psychological human behavior beyond the fictional story. The reader experiences a deeper meaning of suppressed desires which are stored in our subconscious mind. Protagonist Gregor gets transformed into a monstrous bug seems fantasy story at first glance, but if you dive deep into the Metamorphosis , it reveals the dilemma of human s subconscious mind as suppression of desires. The equation of human relationship changed, people show up their frustration, and ready to give away nonfunctional existence. Thus, revealing facts of human nature creates a bitter taste in the life. The way equation of human relationship changes due to selfish nature, its classic example is Samsa family. The transformation into a bug is a symbol of subconsciously suppressed desires. As long Gregor was earning good money and providing quite a decent life to his family the harmony between Gregor and his family was exemplary. Having such dishonest and deceitful leaders definitely goes against the democratic system, which is all about being honest. Another political machine that went against the principles of democracy was that of Edward Crump. In Memphis, Tennessee, through his political machine Crump controlled everything. That in itself is one of the things that negatively impacted the democratic system. All of the peoples power was in one man, which is too much power for one person to have in a democracy. Also, with this power Crump mistreated those lower than him. Heffernan also illustrates how headphones work, stating, when an audio current passes through the device s voice coil, it creates an alternating magnetic field that moves a stiff, light diaphragm (Heffernan, 2011). Logos Incorporating logical appeals into her writing allows Heffernan to reach a larger audience by providing factual support as backing for the argument. The author writes, the number of teenagers with hearing loss... has jumped 33 percent since 1994 (Heffernan, 2011). By using a statistic as a logical premise in support of prohibiting headphones, the author sheds light on the harsh reality of headphone use: more young people experience hearing loss. • 20. Automated Guided Vehicle Or Automatic Guided Vehicles Automated Guidance An automated guided vehicle or automatic guided vehicle (AGV) is essentially a vehicle that follows markers or wires in the floor, or uses vision, magnets, or lasers for navigation. They are most often used in industrial applications to move materials around a manufacturing facility or warehouse. Application of the automatic guided vehicle has broadened during the late 20th century. The AGV can tow objects behind them in trailers to which they can autonomously attach. The trailers can be used to move raw materials or finished product. The AGV can also store objects on a bed. The objects can be placed on a set of motorized rollers (conveyor) and then pushed off by reversing them. AGVs are employed in nearly every industry, including, pulp, paper, metals, newspaper, and general manufacturing. Transporting materials such as food, linen or medicine in hospitals is also done. An AGV can also be called a laser guided vehicle (LGV). Lower cost versions of AGVs are often called Automated Guided Carts (AGCs) and are usually guided by magnetic tape. AGCs are available in a variety of models and can be used to move products on an assembly line, transport goods throughout a plant or warehouse, and deliver loads. Over the years, the technology has become more sophisticated, this technology can be suitably adapted for cars on the streets. • 22. Motivations In Antigone By Sophocles Ever wondered how far your motivations could take you? Antigone, a famous play written by Sophocles, introduces the audience to various characters who push the limits with their motivations, despite the consequences. We, the audience, are shown two major characters, a determined woman, Antigone, who goes to extremes for her family, and Creon, a stubborn king who believes in protecting his city Thebes. Creon creates a rule that both Antigones brothers, Polyneices and Eteocles must both alternately fulfill the title of king of Thebes, and ends in Polyneices death because of a battle that arose between the brothers which resulted in a demand for Polyneices to remain unburied by Creon, which influenced Antigones determination to give Polyneices a proper burial, resulting in the death of Antigone and Creon s family members. I believe Creon is the tragic hero because although he was doing what he thought was right to defend the people of Thebes and fulfill his duty as a ruler, he resulted in losing his loved ones and ending up alone. Creon becomes the king of Thebes, and because of this, he wants to protect his people. Despite his desire to remain loyal to his citizens, Creon doesn t take advice or input from anyone. • 26. Pros And Consequences Of Privatization What drives the movement for privatization? In the past few decades, countries around the world have taken action to privatize their services. It is believed that privatization creates markets that allow companies to compete, and contribute to the economy. The idea is to cede ownership of public services to the private sector; where competition will drive innovation, and reduce costs for the government and the taxpayer alike. That being said, in some cases privatizationdoes not create a real market where competition occurs, or is even feasible. Privatizing these services can deteriorate quality and increase costs for those who require their use. This way, it is possible to limit a service to those who can afford them. While privatization can,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown in Prisons, Privatization, Patronage by Paul Krugman, privatization can have negative consequences. These privatized prisons are understaffed and poorly run. There are have been convicts escaping prison and minor offenders suffering in the hands of other prisoners (Krugman). These prisons also show very little reduction in costs, as opposed to state funded prisons and the little savings come from understaffing and underpaying their employees (Krugman). In this case, privatization was used for the benefit of private companies who are making a profit, as well as the government who does not have to invest money in prisons. However, this is done at the expense of those receiving the service. Moreover, privatization can limit a service to a certain group of people. As argued by Gary Haugen in The Privatization of Justice , private services can be limited to the wealthy. In many developing countries police enforcement is sometimes limited. E., Schuler, R. S., Werner, S. 2012). Two preferred ways employees contain cost is by changing the pay mix and by emphasizing nonmonetary compensation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, this increases the talent pool and can make them an employer of choice among their competition. A total compensation system could prevent an organization from being effective in several ways; for instance, if their total compensation package is not aligning with the employee needs, total compensation influences employee attraction, motivation, and retention. However, the importance of the various components depend on the person and his or her situation (Jackson, S. E., Schuler, R. S., Werner, S. 2012). The compensation system within an organization should align to the overall Business plan to achieve expected results. In other words, the total compensation includes: base pay, performance based pay, benefits and services, and nonmonetary rewards. All of this together should reach a balance; otherwise, the expected results would be devastating. During recession, many Americans suffered, and the economy pressured many organizations to cut workers. However, experts on the matter explain, In light of the massive number of layoffs, pay cuts look like the more humane cost cutting tactic because they save jobs. UCLA management professor David Lewin says a small reduction in pay, when handled carefully, can even foster a collegial spirit during hard times. It sends a signal that no one is expendable, but everyone is valued. We all suffer the pain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. CHF Case Study Case Study Pg 204: Essentials of Critical Care Nursing Mrs. K., A 68 year old white woman, has been admitted to the critical care unit with shortness of breath at rest. Vital signs are BP, 218/100 mm Hg; HR, 110 beats/min; and RR, 3 breath/min. She has run out of her antihypertensive medication for the fourth time this year and only came to the hospital because of her breathing difficulties. On examination, Mrs. K. is pale and clammy sitting upright in a chair. She has bibasilar crackles to her scapulae, and her heart rhythm is irregularly irregular. She has pitting edema bilaterally to her thighs, jugular venous pulsation to the earlobe, and bilateral infiltrates. An ECG shows a left ventricular ejection fraction of 78% with ... Amiodarone is a vasodilator and can increase cardiac output. However, it will not significantly change the ejection fraction which is good since Mrs. K. s is 78% (normal approximately 55 75%) c. I did not see any treatments for her A Fib. There is no mention of thombolytics or anti coagulants. This should also be considered for treatment. 2. Based on her presentation, physical assessment and hemodynamic number, was Mrs. K. experiencing left or right sided failure, or both? a. Both. Based on what is presented. She has JVD an indication of right sided failure because the heart is unable to pump the massive amount of fluid coming from the body to the right side of the heart. There is too much fluid for the right ventricle to pump into the pulmonary arteries. And because of the A fib, it is not being pumped efficiently. b. She is experiencing left sided failure as shown by the increased PAP and the bibasilar crackles heard on auscultation. The fluid can t get into the left side of the heart and is backing up into the lungs. Left sided failure is also indicated by the reduced cardiac index. The heart is not able to get the fluid out to the body. 3. What role did atrial fibrillation play in Mrs. K. s heart failure? a. Political Racism And The Consequences Racism and the consequences The Republicans have used the voting rights laws to create gerrymandered bleached white districts that favor radical right wing conservative Republicans. While jamming minorities into a few districts primarily black that preclude whites from even running for office in those districts because minorities will not generally vote for white democrats if a black is running. Hence the complete control of both houses of the legislature by the radical Republicans. That is why you don t see many white Democrats in the legislature. • 43. Advantages And Disadvantages Of PFC Transverter The objective of the control circuit for PFC converter are a near unity power factor should flow and a steady average voltage should maintain at the output. Literature is abounded with novel PFC control methods that address these objectives. These control methods can segmented into a few categories in terms of their implementation approach and structures. Such as the multi loop multiplier approach, the cycle by cycle integration approach, the single loop control approach and the sliding mode controlapproach. Under these categories, some common PFC converter control methods are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages of those methods []. 2.1.1.1Single loop approach Single loop control methods allowed a single voltage control loop to regulate the output voltage. The input current shaping is accomplished in an open loop manner, the duty cycle patterns are predefined by considering in ideal PFC operation. One example in this control method is the duty phase control (DPC) proposed by Chen [42]. In this method, a phase shift is willingly introduced to the stored duty cycle patterns. The output voltage is regulated by adjusting this phase shift by using the output of the voltage error amplifier, which is named the duty phase . This approach simplified the control structure and eliminated the current loop, without the need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this control method, the error voltage is integrated twice and to generate the reference signal for current tracking, this signal referred to as the nonlinear carrier signal. In the current shaping, instead of the sensed switch current for comparison, the sensed current is integrated to obtain an average value before being compared with the nonlinear carrier signal. This approach reduces the input current distortion and the noise immunity. Its physical realization is more complicated than the OCC control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Kyoto Protocol And Global Warming In December 1997, Kyoto protocol was signed to address global warming specifically. Global warming is the gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its oceans due to green house gases emissions. (NRDC, 2005) In the past 100 years, the rate of global warming is unprecedented. In fact, global warminghas become one of the most challenging environmental problems in the 21st century. In order to effectively address this issue, international cooperation is necessary. Through international cooperation, undeveloped countries are able to overcome financial obstacles in meeting their targets. In addition, it could also promote worldwide technology sharing, data foundations and public awareness of climate change.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For starters, modern economy relies heavily on fossil fuels, which is a main resource that contributes to global warming. Adopting renewable energy might sharply reduce GHG emissions. However, according to international energy agency, switching from fossil fuels to low carbon sources of energy will cost $44 trillion between now and 2050 (IEA, 2009). In case 44 trillion is too abstract, 1 trillion dollar can fill up an entire soccer field and stack more than 10 feet high. This cost could be intimidating for any country. Moreover, the cost also depends on how long it takes for us to start reducing emissions. The IPCC report showed that continuing to hold off on reducing emissions could increase costs by 40 percent (IPCC, 2008) For developing countries, this cost would be a financial burden and a limiting reagent on GDP growth. Socially, civilian s life quality will be affected by the GDP reduction. As a result, it becomes more challenging for countries to take initiative in addressing this problem. The question eventually came down to whom should bear the astronomical cost? Are we willing to invest in something that might cost more than its benefits? Evaluation on its Successfulness The achievements of Kyoto Protocol have been controversial. Nevertheless, the agreement has had a mix of success. In order to evaluate its successfulness, we need data of the emission level of Annex I parties from 1990 to 2012 explicitly. As a result, the United States did not ratify the ... People are able to release their stress and focus on a hobby with friends and family by racing many different forms of vehicles. Overtime, racing safety standards have changed and become stricter in order to prevent fatalities. Unfortunately, there are many dangers involved in racing. As time progresses, so does the modern technology of many different forms of racing. Many different types of racecars are getting faster, and in turn making them much more unsafe. Although, some may argue that as the motorsports industry gets faster, the safety technology also gets more effective. The National Association for Stock Car Racing (NASCAR) is one of the most popular forms of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With over 75 million viewers, they must stay on top of safety to ensure no one is hurt on live television or at the racetrack with families out having a great time. The sport is not about people getting hurt, and it is time that drivers and families are able to enjoy all types of racing, including NASCAR without the worry of fatality. Although there is not a quick and cheap fix to preventing fatalities in racing, it is important that technology is being put to its best use to lessen the chances. NASCAR has came a long way in safety since the death of Dale Earnhardt. Earnhardt s death was a huge and unfortunate wake up call to track owners, families, and drivers. If they are going to race these cars, they need to utilize the safety technology available to them. New and improved safety technology for racing comes at a steep cost, but it is hard to put a price on life. The Peltzman effect is a very interesting theory, which views new safety rules and regulations and how they increase dangers in other forms. It was found after NASCAR made the HANS device a requirement after Earnhardt s death, that cautions while racing were more common. This Peltzman effect makes people rebel and become more dangerous because they are implementing a new safety mechanism. This could be because they feel more safe in their racecars, or that they believe it is unfair they have to use the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Light snowflakes fell in dizzying patterns around Jonas, blurring his already troubled vision. The ground seemed to sway, to turn, to move. His head felt light, his limbs numb, and his body cold. He tried to stand, to get off of the sled, but his body refused to listen. Jonas felt something moving in his lap, and Gabe s blond head popped up in front of him, his features fuzzy and his voice incoherent. Jonas tried to talk to him, to comfort him and tell him he was alright, but even his voice was unresponsive. The words were right there, caught in his throat, and it brought tears to his eyes that he could not let them out. • 49. Ratification Of The Emancipation Proclamation In 1862, Abraham Lincoln formally recognized that he needed a clever tactic to address the institution of slavery without either side thinking that he was favoring one nation over the other. Lincoln knew that he needed to have a moderate strategy because a more aggressive policy would alienate Border State Unionists and War Democrats whose support he saw as essential to the Union war effort, according one a class reading. However, after trying to negotiate with the Confederacy over the course of several months, the president s only way to combat the division was to draft the Emancipation Proclamation. The events leading up to the ratification and enforcement of the Proclamation prove that freeing the slaves was a long, arduous process that affected both sides (the Union and the Confederacy) in several ways over the following years of the war. The most prominent effect of Lincoln passing the Emancipation Proclamation was that it made the war about slavery. Though there was much controversy in the first few months over what actually caused the Civil War, ratifying and issuing the final Proclamation officially shifted the focus from states right and the reach of the federal government to the race struggle between the white and the enslaved. Almost instantly, the Emancipation Proclamation created a deeper divide between the Union and the Confederacy. The Confederates assumed that this was Lincoln s original war aim and attacked him with constant criticism and disapproval. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
