Supper At Emmaus
I am going to discuss the representation of humans and the reflection of Renaissance themes in the
following paintings; Caravaggio s The Taking of Christ, The Entombment of Christ, Supper at
Emmaus. I will also be looking at Dürer s Melencholia I.
The most common themes featured in Renaissance art; classicism, individualism, secularism, nudes,
nature, youth and religion.
Caravaggio s Supper at Emmaus has been constructed according to Luke s narrative in the bible 24:28
32. Dramatic theatrical lighting surrounding the figures in the painting is used to create a sense of
surprise that would be appropriate for a sense of miracle. The themes of religion/ biblical art are the
most prevalent in this painting. There is also a symbolic meaning to the choice of fruit featured in this
painting. The apple is significantly associated with the Temptation and The Fall of Man. ... Show more

Each garment or item in the painting that is coloured seems consistent and stable despite the
juxtaposition between lightness and darkness. The central figure, Christ, is portrayed as both youthful
and beardless. With this portrayal of Christ comes a sensuality and sense of ambiguity. This is not
unlike figures shown before in Caravaggio s paintings of boys and angels. In the Supper at Emmaus,
Caravaggio employed several different techniques for the positioning of the figures, for example the
use of abbozzo. Abbozzo is rapidly executed, diagonal brushstrokes used as a rough guide to the
placing of forms. He also used rilievo. This is a sculpture consisting of shapes carved on a surface so
as to stand out from the surrounding

Dr. Sigmund Freud In Adlous Huxley s Brave New World
Adlous Huxley s novel, Brave New World, builds upon the ideas that were dominant and fresh in the
early part of the twentieth century. One such idea was Psychoanalysis, propagated by Dr. Sigmund
Freud. Though a psychoanalytical interpretation can be applied to any novel after the fact, I believe
Huxley used elements of the approach in the creation of his characters and plot. In this novel Huxley
presents a dystopic society in which various scientific and psychological techniques are used to
control people from their conception to their death.
Freud divided the personality into the id, ego and super ego. The id is home to animal urges, such as
hunger or sexual desire. In babies the first facet of personality to develop is the id, they demand ...

(102) In our society, Freud would say a person who behaves in this way has a fixation; their
psychological functioning has been stunted. However, in Bernard s society this would constitute as
normal functioning. The New World government conditions people to have extremely powerful super
egos that actually encourage, rather than inhibit, instant gratification of id impulses. As a result the ego
is diminished and people do not have to cope with conflicting emotions. This seems to create stability
in society, or at least passivity. The Director understands that this type of psychological conditioning
in the individual is essential to the functioning of society as a whole. Alphas are so conditioned that
they do not have to be infantile their emotional behaviour... It is their duty to be infantile, even against
their inclination. (106)
Since the general population of the Brave New world do not have families, they cannot reach
psychological maturity. Controller Mond subscribes to the view that families cause madness and
suicide (52) which was introduced by the Ford.
Our Ford our Freud, as, for some inscrutable reason, he chose to call himself whenever he spoke of
psychological matters Our Freud had been the first to reveal the appalling dangers of family life.

Psychopathy Research Paper
The jurisdiction of psychopathy is a terrifying disorder. Sufferers often develop antisocial behavior,
marked by maladaptive personality traits. For centuries, many causes behind this disorder have been
speculated, but the etiology remains inconclusive. There are three mainstream etiologies presented
today, however they consist of biological, environmental, and social factors which may be equal in
support. If the rise of psychopathy develops from biosocial conditions, is there an effective treatment
and therefore cure for an adult psychopath? There is vast and varied literature which attempts to
explain every detail about this confounding disorder.
Today there are two concepts associated with psychopathy: sociopathy and antisocial personality

The Wrongs Of Woman By Mary Wollstonecraft
Mary Wollstonecraft is hailed as a prominent figure in feminist history. Although viewed in her time
as a controversial figure, her works since have been highly regarded amongst feminist historians.
Throughout Mary s life the literature she produced, she produced with societal issues in the forefront
of her mind. Throughout her literature, Caroline Franklin explains: The need for and loss of maternal
love would become a recurring theme in Wollstonecraft s fiction. Wollstonecraft in her numerous
publications has clearly provided evidence to show her thoughts and opinion on current matters
varying from political to social. Her stance on women in regard to social standing, education and
issues such as marriage seep out of her writings. Wollstonecraft s second novel titled The wrongs of
woman contains the narrative from two women Maria and Jemima. The two women are from two
different social standings. The interesting notion in the novel is that Maria who is of higher social
standing provokes a reader to the thought she would live a better quality of life than Jemima her lower
class assistant. This is not the case as both women despite their class and wealth both have their
respective problems in life. Although at first thought one would assume some form of wealth being
from the upper classes, however whether intended or not, Wollstonecraft makes the reader come to the
conclusion that no matter her class a woman will not have wealth, not alone anyway. The evidence for

I Have A Dream Speech Primary Source
Primary Source Document:
I Have a Dream Speech Martin Luther King Jr.
Throughout history, there has been many documents written over historic events. In American history,
the civil rights movements has many documents about this particular time in history. However the I
have a Dream speech is a memorable and powerful document that provides the reader (audience) with
insight into the events of the civil rights movements. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the speech I
have a Dream . King had earned a sociology degree from Morehouse College and attended the liberal
Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. King thrived in all his studies, he was
valedictorian of his 1951 class and was also elected the student body president. ... Show more content

It assumes a better place with no hate, no discrimination, only peace and love, a place where people
aren t hurting others and showing hatred and destruction within their eyes. Uniquely, this document is
very believable to me. This speech shows it reliability because of how much things have change since
the speech was given. The words used by king were of simplicity but at the same time showed a
powerful meaning so that all the audience could understand the points he was showing in his speech
from beginning to end. Furthermore, the society of people that produced this speech including king,
helped teach us that if we believe strongly in anything that we do, then we will always be able to rise
and surpass any set limits in our way. It makes me learn that the power to overcome is the greatest
power of all. Additionally this document importance to history is that it broke so many racial barriers
and made the nation think about its future choices for the better of it. It made people think about their
actions and how wrong they were to treat others with such hate and discrimination in life. To not be
fair and judge over the tiniest of things including color which was the main judgment. Furthermore,
the speech brought more attention to the civil rights movement, which was lasting for years. It
gathered 250,000 people at the nation s capital. It made Kings influence of non violence reaction even
stronger to a nationwide and worldwide audience. The speech was carried on the radio and reprinted
in newspapers and magazines all over the United States and all over the entire world. Additionally the
speech made Congress move faster in passing the Civil Rights Act. These set of laws were passed in
1964. These laws gave African Americans more equal treatment than they ever had before the speech
and before King had ever started his race to equality

Synthesis and Reactivity of tert butyl Chloride via an Sn1 Reaction
Copeland 1
Introduction/Background
Substitution reactions are important chemical processes that contribute to the production of new
compounds. Simplistically, these reactions take place through a series of steps in which one functional
group is replaced by another (March). There are two types of nucleophilic substitution reactions, first
order and second order, but this experiment only involves the Sn1 first order reactions. Sn1 reactions
are considered unimolecular meaning that only one molecule is involved in the rate determining step,
the slowest step of the reaction which determines the overall speed of the reaction. In contrast, Sn2
reactions are considered bimolecular, and complete the substitution reaction in one step. The main
components of these reactions are the nucleophile and the leaving group; a nucleophile replaces the
leaving group by donating its electrons to form a new bond to the carbon (Weldegirma). For this
experiment, the nucleophiles and leaving groups of the Sn1 reactions are alkyl halides and alcohols
respectively. When a hydrogen atom is replaced by halogen in an alkane, the resulting compound is
referred to as a alkyl halide. There are certain factors that affect both Sn1 and Sn2 reactions which
include the structure of the substrate, and the concentration and reactivity of the nucleophile (Sn2
only). If a

Electronic Health Record Essay
After decades of paper based medical records, a new type of record keeping has surfaced the
Electronic Health Record (EHR). EHR is an electronic or digital format concept of an individual s past
and present medical history. It is the principle storage place for data and information about the health
care services provided to an individual patient. It is maintained by a provider over time and capable of
being shared across different healthcare settings by network connected information systems. Such
records may include key administrative and clinical data relevant to that persons care under a
particular provider. Examples of such records may include: demographics, physician notes, problems
or injuries, medications and allergies, vital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But with the benefits there are also the risk factors. Some disadvantages of the EHR system would
include; initial cost of planning and implementing an EHR system, lack of standardization across the
healthcare setting, unauthorized access to patient information (security and privacy), inaccurate patient
information if not updated properly, technical downtimes, potential negligence for data loss and
possible patient access to conditions that they don t comprehend which may panic them. Although the
EHR is still in a transitional state, this major shift that electronic medical records are taking is bringing
many concerns to the table. Two concerns at the top of the list are privacy and standardization issues.
In 1996, U.S. Congress enacted a non for profit organization called Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA). This law establishes national standards for privacy and security of health
information. HIPAA deals with information standards, data integrity, confidentiality, accessing and
handling your medical information. They also were designed to guarantee transferred information be
protected from one facility to the next (Meridan, 2007). But even with the HIPAA privacy rules, they
too have their shortcomings. HIPAA can t fully safeguard the limitations of who s accessible to your
information. A short stay at your local

1.1 Red Flags and Audit Risk Factors
AMRE s executives had incentives to keep the stock price on a high level
The negative profit projections could have triggered a pressure situation for the executives, thus
Koornhof and Du Plessis (2000) identified that an increasing financial pressure on a company s
management to report favourable results on a constant basis is the main reason for deliberately
misstating financial statements. Furthermore, companies which are facing financial distress are more
likely to commit fraud (Albrecht et al., 2012, p. 147).
According to AICPAAU Section 314 (2006), it is important for Price Waterhouse to understand the
entity and its environment, in order to evaluate risks of material misstatement. Furthermore, it is their
legal obligation (Arens et al., 2012, p. 131).
In the audit planning stage, Price Waterhouse could have conducted analytical procedures, in order to
compare the entity s financial information with anticipated results of AMRE, such as budgets or

Health In The 20th Century
Introduction; what is the question and explain each one briefly.
Today s understanding of health is very different to how health was viewed 60 80 years ago, like
animals, we humans evolve over time, we adapt, we learn and our lifestyles change. However, with
these chances in lifestyle we find that we are more open to risk taking and illnesses, which is why
todays understand of health is very different to how it was viewed 60 80 Years ago. Health is a hard
word to define as it means so many different things to people depending on your background, race,
sex or age. However, the World Health Organisation has a pretty accurate definition which recognises
that health has many factors to it not just one. During the early 20th century Discrimination ... Show

relationships between people and the ability to adapt to a range of different social situations. It s being
able to react and behave in an acceptable manner at the right times in our relationships with other.
Mental health refers to the state of the individual s wellbeing, the ability to think logically and to cope

Isolation and the Global Economy
Introduction:
My research aims to understand the relationship between radical political policy and trade relationship
in a global economic context. This research is important in that it aims to understand why political
isolation due to policy leads to certain economic circumstances and the ways in which politically
isolated countries can counter the damage caused by an often lower trade level. I will also addresses
the implications for trade partners of mostly politically isolated countries and how this can affect their
own trade relations and political situations. I chose this topic because I have an interest in how
countries like North Korea, Iran, and Myanmar function ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sanctions can cover a few goods (like in the case of Brazil sanctions against the U.S. Involving cotton,
cars and other agricultural products. Economic isolation can be a result of sanctions, but it can also be
self imposed like in the case of countries like North Korea and Albania under communist control.
These and other countries took a radical protectionist stance on trade in order to prevent cultural
exchange and retain power within their countries. In From old comrades to new partnerships: dynamic
development of economic relations between China and North Korea. Lee and Yoon take a look at the
evolution of the relationship between North Korea and China. It s fair to say that without the help of
the Chinese government North Korea s progress would have likely been much more stagnant due to
their limited trading partners. Despite complicated relationships with the west North Korea has
remained relatively politically stable over the course of the country s history, and they are moving
towards increased economic stability despite trade sanctions and various human rights violations that
have been placed against North Korea. This journal article looks at two key points in examining North
Korea s relationship with China over the last 15 years. Firstly they look at China s growing level of
investment and trade in North Korea. In 2000 North Korea exported around 40 million USD worth
goods to China, by 2010 that figure had grown nearly 30 fold.

The Inquiry Approach to Learning Essay
Inquiry is an interactive way of learning. Students are actively engaged in their studies. Inquiry
involves student centered activities focusing on questioning, exploring, and posing explanations. The
goal of inquiry is to introduce a new way of learning where students can learn about the world around
them through active engagement in real life examples. Inquiry based learning can be incorporated into
all academic subjects throughout the curriculum. Science could possibly be the most effective subject
to incorporate inquiry. In Science, teachers serve as the facilitator of learning, guiding them through
the inquiry process. Teachers must ask open ended questions, allow time for the students to answer,

conduct the experiment based on their observations. Students are considered to be scientists in the
inquiry process. Children will view themselves as scientists as they learn. They look forward to
science, demonstrate a desire to learn more, seek collaboration with their classmates, they are
confident in doing science, and willing to take risks. Students are readily engaged in exploring
science. They have curiosity, ponder observations, move around to get the materials they need, and
have the opportunity to try out their ideas. Students are able to communicate using various amounts of
methods. They express their ideas in journals, reporting, or drawing. They listen, speak, and write
about science. They communicate their level of understanding of concepts and ideas. The students
propose explanations and solutions based off their data. They use investigations to satisfy their own
questions. They sort out information that is needed and important. They become willing to revise
explanations and gain new knowledge. They raise questions, use questions to lead them to
investigations, and students begin to enjoy using questions to ponder ideas. Students begin to observe
rather than look. They see details, detect sequences, and notice change, similarities, and differences.

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol
Statistically, based on reports from 2003, 99% of the total population ages 15 and over can read and
write (CIA Library). Thus, one can conclude illiteracy is not a crisis. However, The Human Cost of an
Illiterate Society by Jonathan Kozol, implies something different. Kozol emphasizes the hardship of
an illiterate, and briefly explains the importance of helping an illiterate without providing much of a
solution, while Kozol s essay was ineffective overall because of the lack of factual evidence and
flawed conclusions, his strategic use of tone, repetition and rhetorical questioning provided some
strength to his argument. By establishing a sympathetic tone, Kozol effectively appeals our emotions,
which provides slight strength to his argument. For example, Kozol explains his dream he experienced
where he was in the Soviet, Then I remember that my card was confiscated for some reason, many
years before. Around this point, I wake up in a panic (2). Kozol s tone illustrates how helpless the
illiterates are and wants to appeal to our emotion of sympathy as he draws comparison to the same
troubles and emotions he experienced in his dream as illiterates experience daily. That emotional
impact provided some strength to his argument because it allows us to imagine an experience, which
may be unfamiliar. Kozol insinuates that illiterates match logos printed on packages to distinguish the
differences amongst food. Kozol points out, The purchaser who cannot read and does not dare

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas which is emitted through the process of
incomplete combustion of fossil fuel. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that, when inhaled, combines
with the blood and renders them incapable of carrying oxygen. Methane occurs as a principal
ingredient in natural gas, and is produced by the bacterial decomposition of plant and animal matters.
Methane in the troposphere absorbs heat and causes greenhouse effect ( Gutnik pg. 15).
A sulfur based gas occurs mostly as sulfur dioxide (SO2) which is a colorless, tasteless, foul smelling ,
heavier than air gas. Besides naturally produced from activities of the volcanoes or decomposition of
organic material in swamps, it also is produced by the burning of sulfur containing fossil fuels. Sulfur
dioxide combines with water vapor in the air, forming sulfurous acid (H2SO3), a major component of

Banks can include commercial banks, savings and loans, and credit unions. Everyday banks are used
to make payments, deposits, withdraw, or talk to bankers about options. Regulations are highly
important in the banking industry, protecting customers and economically. Banks gain funds by
retained earnings, equity securities, savings, loans, and charging interest rates.

University. I chose these schools because they offer my program of study for a M.S. degree in a field
that relates to my B.S. degree from Iowa State University. Likewise, these are schools I have
considered after speaking with my academic advisor from Iowa State University.
Evaluation Criteria
Before I chose a graduate school, I determined what my criteria is. My criteria is the location of the
school, tuition cost, and graduation rate. For location, I want to be as close to family and friends as
possible as they are important to me. With them being closer, I am able to

Trapped In A Snow Globe Analysis
Trapped In A Snow Globe I was on my wonderful trip at disney world enjoying some time at the rock

was really cold out here since it was the winter. I started and the dolls were singing,as I continued
down the water. Then I saw a rat, but since I was in disney world and their mascot is a mouse, I
thought I would say Meeska mooska Mickey Mouse! Since that s what they said say in Mickey Mouse
Clubhouse. Then, all of a sudden the floor dropped beneath me and I fell in a room of dolls. I looked
around looking for anything but dolls and I saw a door so I opened it. On a table I saw a belt with a

The Impact Of Social Movements On Social Movement
Social movements shed light to social issues present in communities and harvest social change in
political, religious, educational, health, government, and other institutional matters. Social movements
give individuals a clear outlet to concerns about the rights and well being of themselves and others,
mostly through public protest and conversation, in order to promote social justice and democracy.
Throughout history, humans naturally ended up starting movements to simply improve their way of
life and movements have continually aided in a remarkable change in communities. In the essay From
Civil Rights to Megachurches, Charles Duhigg explains the three critical steps that initiative
successful social movements. Social movements must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, one in six black men had been incarcerated as of 2001 and today African Americans
comprise of nearly 1 million of the total 2.3 million incarcerated population and are imprisoned at six
times the rate of whites ( About the BLM Network ). If current trends continue and the population of
the African Americans increase, one in three black males born today can expect to spend time in
prison during his lifetime ( About the BLM Network ). This happens to be the very example of what
led to the start of the BLM movement and the uproar of the black population. After 17 year old
Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by murder George Zimmerman and was posthumously placed on
trial for his own murder, only for Zimmerman to be acquitted, #Blacklivesmatter was created in 2012

and a feeling of ownership, especially when users could easily share the hashtag along with his or her
own views and ideas in a tweet or an Instagram caption (Duhigg 87). This hashtag subsequently was
formed into a protest and then ultimately a full fledged movement: a movement uniting all black
people to resist their dehumanization in America and creating a voice for its members through social

Short Story Of Diablo 2
Diablo II s twin suns burned Carlos Nieto s exposed skin as he concentrated on the job before him. He
tried not to gag from the smell of the dead police sniper next to him. Carlos pulled the bloody sniper
rifle from under the dead officer s body and checked the action. He was amused to see it was a locally
manufactured copy of an old Earth .50 cal rifle. From his rooftop position on the on the apartment
building he had a good view of the surrounding area. Hundreds of protesters advanced towards a line
of police officers, protecting a government office. Carlos looked over the other rooftops and didn t see
any other police. He took positioned with the rifle barrel on top of the half wall bordering the roof and
took aim. There was surprisingly little recoil as the rifle fired. Carlos watched as the police officer s
neck exploded, effectively decapitating the woman as her helmet fell to the ground with her head still
in it. Carlos fired nine more times, while the police line held their position and opened fire on the
protesters. That should be enough for today, Carlos thought smugly. He walked to the opposite side of
the roof and removed a rope from his satchel then tied it to a pipe before throwing it down the side of
the building. He reached into his satchel and dropped a protest pamphlet next to the rope before taking
one last look around the roof then retreating to the roof exit. Cease fire damn it! Sgt. Kim Mulder

Biology Reflection
As the bell rung for the end of first period, I gathered my things and began to walk to my second
period class, Biology. Biology was always to me the hardest subject I had ever dealt with because
there was so much to learn, study, and truly understand. I walked through the door into the classroom
and I ll never forget the words I heard my teacher say that caught me so off guard. Get out your notes
and study because you have a test today , he said. As I heard him finish his sentence, my eyes widen
and I quickly moved towards my seat and began to skim over my notes as fast as I could. I had
completely forgot that I had a test in biology.
While reading over my notes, I kept thinking to myself that I just knew I was going to fail this test.
After a couple of minutes of studying, I heard the teach yell 5 more minutes . I began to skim even
faster over my notes. It felt like time was moving so fast because when I heard my teach yell times up
, it seemed as if only 2 minutes had passed by. He passed out the answer sheet around the classroom
and instructed us to fill out our student ID numbers. I looked over the unfilled answer sheet and
counted the amount of questions. There were 30 questions in total which frightened me even more
because I had to answer 30 questions on information that I barely studied. Then he handed out the test
and I became extremely nervous because not only did I barely study and there were 30 multiple choice
questions, but the classroom was so cold that

Security Background And Threats Of Terrorism Essay
One. Security background and threats of terrorism
Since the beginning of a 21st century, an international security environment has been proved to be
more volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguity with their challenging effects in various ways.
Thus, those challenging situations take into particular considerations when combating terrorism
throughout the national security strategy. The civil war, sectarian spillovers of crises, state catastrophe
in central Africa and the Middle East will likely to be continued with growing scale and concern.
Most worrisome is the emergence in Iraq and Syria of the self proclaimed Islamic State known as ISIS
whose brutal violence, ability to capture and hold territory, significant financial resources, and
impressive strategic acumen make it a threat like any other the United States has faced in the
contemporary era. The Radical Islamic terrorism as An act of terror and an act of hate is well nested in
Iraq and Syria will also likely to cause more instability and extreme violence in the region, and in
entire world.
Moreover, the growing threats of terrorism with protracting instability in specific region cause 2nd
and 3rd order of security effects not only in European continent but also cause the danger in U.S. soil.
For instance, due to recent instability in Iraq and Syria, thousands of millions of refugees are moving
from the Middle East to the neighboring countries and European continent for seeking safe heavens.

A Few Good Men By Erich Fromm And Stanley Milgram
The movie, A Few Good Men, is the story of how two marines go on trial for the murder of another
marine. The movie then unfolds into an emotional drama which dives deep into conspiracy and the
psychodynamics of following orders. A Few Good Men was a critically acclaimed movie and was
nominated for multiple Academy Awards. Similarly, authors Erich Fromm and Stanley Milgram,
wrote essays that explored the morals behind obedience, and how disobedience of immoral commands
can bring betterment to others. Although A Few Good Men presents disobedience as being a vice,
evidence from Milgram and Fromm suggest that disobedience can bring about an improvement on
current conditions. In A Few Good Men, both Lance Cpl. Harold W. Dawson and Pfc. Louden
Downey were obedient to Col. Nathan R. Jessup s order to give Santiago the Code Red, even though it
went against their preset morals. Dawson saw, through his own conscience, that hurting another
person because of small mistakes was immoral. But because of his believe in the marines code, Unit,
Corp, God, Country, he was unable to allow himself to disobey a direct order. Author Milgram
explored this same issue in his experiment. He asked why people followed orders no matter the
negative effects it has on other people. In the study, roughly 60% of the test subject followed all orders
to harms others. After the studies, Milgram inferred that this was because people have an underlying
fear of disobeying a superior and do not trust their own

Choosing A Career Field Is One Of Life s Most Important...
Choosing a career field is one of life s most important and difficult decisions. But knowing what your
expectations are and then comparing them to the realities will help you make educated decisions.
Change is an unstoppable process and the fastest change in today s world is in the field of business.
Businesses have to be prepared to adopt any change that takes place. That s why I choose business
Management/Law as my career field because my family already own businesses like hotels and
convenience stores. The main reason I choose this as my career field is because there are a lots of
great opportunities available for people with business management/law degrees. Creating and running
a successful business has always been a challenge where only the strong can survive and in the world
of modern business with new advance technology managers or owners need good knowledge to top
hard training with serious set of skills. My parents always told me as successful business owners that
to be successful in running your own business you need to have more than just talent. You must have
access to ocean full of resources which will help you in making your business successful in the long
run. For that you need the proper training and knowledge that will help you select the right place of
resources whether it is your career, job, or business you own. This can be achieved by having a degree
in business management/law. Another reason I choose this major that it will also get you thinking

Experiences In Night, By Elie Wiesel s Night
The more of the world a person sees, the more he/she realizes that it is not as perfect as he/she thinks
it is. When one matures, he/she gains knowledge and experiences that affect how he/she act and think.
Their perspective of the world changes either positively or negatively. Night, an autobiographical
memoir written by Elie Wiesel, tells of the horrors he faced as a child during the Holocaust. The more
the readers read about his experiences, the more they see how his perspectives change throughout the
novel. Emily Dickinson s poem We Grow Accustomed to the Dark explains how one must conquer
his/her fear in order to see more of the world. The way we perceive things change as we gain more
knowledge and experience of the world we live in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickinson writes, We grow accustomed to the Dark / When Light is put away / As when the Neighbor
holds the Lamp / To witness her Goodbye (Dickinson 1 4). The reader is given a situation where one
must perceive his/her fears as an obstacle to overcome in order to adapt to the situation. Dickinson
explains how the mind influences how people see things. Although the mind gets used to the darkness
, the mind also changes its way of interpreting other problems. Emily Dickinson also writes, The
Bravest grope a little / And sometimes hit a Tree Directly in the Forehead / But as they learn to see
(Dickinson 13 16). This stanza is explaining how the bravest people perceive their fears as an obstacle
to overcome in order to continue forward with their lives, like adaptation. The bravest are those who
choose to conquer their fears instead of letting their fears consume them. Overall, the poem, We Grow
Accustomed to the Dark , elaborates on how people must adapt to change sufficiently both mentally
and physically in order to overcome their

Lyddie By Katherine Paterson Summary
Should workers sign a petition? The book, Lyddie, written by Katherine Paterson, is about a girl
named Lyddie who lived in the 1700 s, working in the factories. In the factories, the workers were
forced to endure the poor environment and a lack of safety working with the machines. Also the
workers were under paid, had long working hours, and the atrocious, dissatisfactory, and lousy living
conditions that were unacceptable. However, signing a petition could help improve work areas and
protect workers rights. The book shows all the hardships and the effects of poor working environment
on Lyddie and the other workers. Living Environment Some may argue that the factories treat workers
well by giving workers a place to stay. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the workers earned more money than they did in other places. The book says, The pay
reflected her proficiency, she was making almost 2.50 a week above her 1.75 board. (86) Two dollars
and fifty cents was a lot of money back then. This money, workers earn from factories could help
children and people from poor families support their families and to give them a chance to improve
their lives. However, even if wages were better in factories than other places, workers would have to
pay another way, with endangerment to their lives and sometimes even with tier lives. Many workers
would be hurt and die because of these working environment. Which is the price they will have to pay
for higher wages. To add on, as stated in this essay previously the girls aren t making as much as they
should. In Lyddie, workers complain their wages have went lower a lot. Even if factories offer a lot
more money than other places the workers aren t really earning their true wages not to add on the bad
working environment that harm the workers health. A petition has to be signed to protect workers
rights. From all the above arguments, you can clearly see a change is needed to be made to improve
working environments. The petition will help to give workers better living environment for a better
life and safer worker environments so workers would be safe. It will also

Art Historians And Enthusiasts Alike
Egyptian artifacts captivate the attention of art historians and enthusiasts alike. The unknown artifact
shown in Fig. 1. is one of these Egyptian pieces and dates back to the Old Kingdom sometime
between 2500 2200 BCE.
The artifact is a sculpture of two people standing beside each other. It is monolithic and carved in high
relief so it is meant to be viewed from the front because the figures were carved attached to the
rectangular slab of stone behind them.
The figure on the left is a man. The organic forms of his musculature creates an implied line as light
hits the sculpture and creates contrast between his muscles. This is particularly evident on his chest
where the form of the pectorals and the indentations of abdominal muscles are defined. His only
garment resembles a kilt with a belt and a curved pleat over the left half of it. The figure beside him is
a woman because of her softer, more feminine hourglass figure. Though the man and her are
proportionally similar, she is only as tall as his shoulders. She wears a garment with an ankle length
skirt of a light fabric due to her knees and abdomen being defined with softer curved forms as opposed
to the male s more pronounced bone structure unclothed.
The woman and man are embracing each other creating unity in the composition of the sculpture. The
man s left arm is draped over the woman s back as his hand rests over her left breast while his right
arm is down parallel to his side and his hand is in a fist. The woman s

The Use Of Stereotypes In The 1967 Film Guess Who s Coming...
In the 1967 film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, the main characters bring home controversy when
they surprise their parents and friends with the news of their soon to be interracial marriage. Each
character brings a unique perspectives to the film, which in turn brings to light several different issues.
Throughout the film, there are many different ways in which communication is ineffective and could
have been improved. First, this paper will discuss examples of stereotypes presented in the film. Next,
it will explain complications in listening styles and how it affects communication between characters.
Finally, this paper will analyze process of conflict and how the prior points influence the process.
According to the textbook, stereotyping is attributing a set of qualities to a person because of his or
her membership to some category (Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, 2011, 74). This can be seen throughout
the beginning of the film when John and Joey first interact with Mrs. Drayton and again with Mr.
Drayton. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both cases, the accusers took a small amount of information as if they were a highly representative
factor. As a result, Mr. Drayton drew prejudicial conclusions about John and his capabilities. As for
Tillie, she overgeneralized and drew inaccurate conclusions about John and his intentions with Joey.
Although these are two specific examples of stereotyping in the film, they are not the only instances.
However, they are not pertinent to the purposes of this paper and will not be listed. Each of these
instances of stereotyping cut off the chance of successful communication by letting the preconceived
notions keep them from being open minded towards John. Towards the end of the movie, John is
talking to his father and says, You think of yourself as a colored man, but I just think of myself as a
man . This statement does a great job of exemplifying the difference in stereotyping and not

The Abc Sitcom 2 Broke Girls
The CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls has had continuous success ever since it first aired in 2011. What
makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the main
cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever exist. The two
broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim figure. She
grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline lived an upper class
lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost everything. In contrast, Max
has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked since she was very young. The two
girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner is owned by a very short Asian man
named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they
learn how to deal with each other and their lower class lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke
Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial stereotypes of the characters to make comedic
entertainment. While the comedy in the show does grab the attention of the audience, what also stands
out is the connection of the characters. All of the commonalities that come with living in similar
situations overpower their differences in race and ethnicity. Even though the characters stereotypes
and interactions are constantly being mocked for comedic material, they all have a special bond

Summary Of Girl By Jamacia Kincaid
When a text is first being dissected it is important to walk in to the situation prepared. To be prepared
you must go into the situation equipped with your own interpretation as to what constitutes literature.
The definition of literature isn t very concise. Like art the definition of literature can vary from one
individual to another and before studying these subjects the audience should establish their own
definition so that they can look for themes and symbols in the piece. In my opinion I believe that
literature should be defined as any fictitious work that implements symbols, and other literary devices,
to convey different themes and messages below the surface of the text. With this interpretation of
literature I think that its purpose is to give the audience insight into the lives of others and make
statements about our society. When readers study literature in this manner they are able to view our
society from an outside perspective and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

very prevalent. In this text the mother is very adamant about teaching her daughter how to be the
mother character rather than the whore by teaching her the etiquette and the social graces that come

  • 2. Supper At Emmaus I am going to discuss the representation of humans and the reflection of Renaissance themes in the following paintings; Caravaggio s The Taking of Christ, The Entombment of Christ, Supper at Emmaus. I will also be looking at Dürer s Melencholia I. The most common themes featured in Renaissance art; classicism, individualism, secularism, nudes, nature, youth and religion. Caravaggio s Supper at Emmaus has been constructed according to Luke s narrative in the bible 24:28 32. Dramatic theatrical lighting surrounding the figures in the painting is used to create a sense of surprise that would be appropriate for a sense of miracle. The themes of religion/ biblical art are the most prevalent in this painting. There is also a symbolic meaning to the choice of fruit featured in this painting. The apple is significantly associated with the Temptation and The Fall of Man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each garment or item in the painting that is coloured seems consistent and stable despite the juxtaposition between lightness and darkness. The central figure, Christ, is portrayed as both youthful and beardless. With this portrayal of Christ comes a sensuality and sense of ambiguity. This is not unlike figures shown before in Caravaggio s paintings of boys and angels. In the Supper at Emmaus, Caravaggio employed several different techniques for the positioning of the figures, for example the use of abbozzo. Abbozzo is rapidly executed, diagonal brushstrokes used as a rough guide to the placing of forms. He also used rilievo. This is a sculpture consisting of shapes carved on a surface so as to stand out from the surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dr. Sigmund Freud In Adlous Huxley s Brave New World Adlous Huxley s novel, Brave New World, builds upon the ideas that were dominant and fresh in the early part of the twentieth century. One such idea was Psychoanalysis, propagated by Dr. Sigmund Freud. Though a psychoanalytical interpretation can be applied to any novel after the fact, I believe Huxley used elements of the approach in the creation of his characters and plot. In this novel Huxley presents a dystopic society in which various scientific and psychological techniques are used to control people from their conception to their death. Freud divided the personality into the id, ego and super ego. The id is home to animal urges, such as hunger or sexual desire. In babies the first facet of personality to develop is the id, they demand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (102) In our society, Freud would say a person who behaves in this way has a fixation; their psychological functioning has been stunted. However, in Bernard s society this would constitute as normal functioning. The New World government conditions people to have extremely powerful super egos that actually encourage, rather than inhibit, instant gratification of id impulses. As a result the ego is diminished and people do not have to cope with conflicting emotions. This seems to create stability in society, or at least passivity. The Director understands that this type of psychological conditioning in the individual is essential to the functioning of society as a whole. Alphas are so conditioned that they do not have to be infantile their emotional behaviour... It is their duty to be infantile, even against their inclination. (106) Since the general population of the Brave New world do not have families, they cannot reach psychological maturity. Controller Mond subscribes to the view that families cause madness and suicide (52) which was introduced by the Ford. Our Ford our Freud, as, for some inscrutable reason, he chose to call himself whenever he spoke of psychological matters Our Freud had been the first to reveal the appalling dangers of family life. ... • 4. Psychopathy Research Paper The jurisdiction of psychopathy is a terrifying disorder. Sufferers often develop antisocial behavior, marked by maladaptive personality traits. For centuries, many causes behind this disorder have been speculated, but the etiology remains inconclusive. There are three mainstream etiologies presented today, however they consist of biological, environmental, and social factors which may be equal in support. If the rise of psychopathy develops from biosocial conditions, is there an effective treatment and therefore cure for an adult psychopath? There is vast and varied literature which attempts to explain every detail about this confounding disorder. Today there are two concepts associated with psychopathy: sociopathy and antisocial personality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Wrongs Of Woman By Mary Wollstonecraft Mary Wollstonecraft is hailed as a prominent figure in feminist history. Although viewed in her time as a controversial figure, her works since have been highly regarded amongst feminist historians. Throughout Mary s life the literature she produced, she produced with societal issues in the forefront of her mind. Throughout her literature, Caroline Franklin explains: The need for and loss of maternal love would become a recurring theme in Wollstonecraft s fiction. Wollstonecraft in her numerous publications has clearly provided evidence to show her thoughts and opinion on current matters varying from political to social. Her stance on women in regard to social standing, education and issues such as marriage seep out of her writings. Wollstonecraft s second novel titled The wrongs of woman contains the narrative from two women Maria and Jemima. The two women are from two different social standings. The interesting notion in the novel is that Maria who is of higher social standing provokes a reader to the thought she would live a better quality of life than Jemima her lower class assistant. This is not the case as both women despite their class and wealth both have their respective problems in life. Although at first thought one would assume some form of wealth being from the upper classes, however whether intended or not, Wollstonecraft makes the reader come to the conclusion that no matter her class a woman will not have wealth, not alone anyway. The evidence for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Have A Dream Speech Primary Source Primary Source Document: I Have a Dream Speech Martin Luther King Jr. Throughout history, there has been many documents written over historic events. In American history, the civil rights movements has many documents about this particular time in history. However the I have a Dream speech is a memorable and powerful document that provides the reader (audience) with insight into the events of the civil rights movements. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the speech I have a Dream . King had earned a sociology degree from Morehouse College and attended the liberal Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. It assumes a better place with no hate, no discrimination, only peace and love, a place where people aren t hurting others and showing hatred and destruction within their eyes. Uniquely, this document is very believable to me. This speech shows it reliability because of how much things have change since the speech was given. The words used by king were of simplicity but at the same time showed a powerful meaning so that all the audience could understand the points he was showing in his speech from beginning to end. Furthermore, the society of people that produced this speech including king, helped teach us that if we believe strongly in anything that we do, then we will always be able to rise and surpass any set limits in our way. It makes me learn that the power to overcome is the greatest power of all. Additionally this document importance to history is that it broke so many racial barriers and made the nation think about its future choices for the better of it. It made people think about their actions and how wrong they were to treat others with such hate and discrimination in life. To not be fair and judge over the tiniest of things including color which was the main judgment. Furthermore, the speech brought more attention to the civil rights movement, which was lasting for years. It gathered 250,000 people at the nation s capital. It made Kings influence of non violence reaction even stronger to a nationwide and worldwide audience. The speech was carried on the radio and reprinted in newspapers and magazines all over the United States and all over the entire world. Additionally the speech made Congress move faster in passing the Civil Rights Act. These set of laws were passed in 1964. • 7. Reactivity Of Tert-Butyl Chloride Lab Report Courtney Copeland Alexis Madrazo TA: Katrinah Tirado October 10, 2017 Synthesis and Reactivity of tert butyl Chloride via an Sn1 Reaction Copeland 1 Introduction/Background Substitution reactions are important chemical processes that contribute to the production of new compounds. Simplistically, these reactions take place through a series of steps in which one functional group is replaced by another (March). There are two types of nucleophilic substitution reactions, first order and second order, but this experiment only involves the Sn1 first order reactions. Sn1 reactions are considered unimolecular meaning that only one molecule is involved in the rate determining step, the slowest step of the reaction which determines the overall speed of the reaction. In contrast, Sn2 reactions are considered bimolecular, and complete the substitution reaction in one step. The main components of these reactions are the nucleophile and the leaving group; a nucleophile replaces the leaving group by donating its electrons to form a new bond to the carbon (Weldegirma). For this experiment, the nucleophiles and leaving groups of the Sn1 reactions are alkyl halides and alcohols respectively. When a hydrogen atom is replaced by halogen in an alkane, the resulting compound is referred to as a alkyl halide. There are certain factors that affect both Sn1 and Sn2 reactions which include the structure of the substrate, and the concentration and reactivity of the nucleophile (Sn2 only). If a ... EHR is an electronic or digital format concept of an individual s past and present medical history. It is the principle storage place for data and information about the health care services provided to an individual patient. It is maintained by a provider over time and capable of being shared across different healthcare settings by network connected information systems. Such records may include key administrative and clinical data relevant to that persons care under a particular provider. But with the benefits there are also the risk factors. Some disadvantages of the EHR system would include; initial cost of planning and implementing an EHR system, lack of standardization across the healthcare setting, unauthorized access to patient information (security and privacy), inaccurate patient information if not updated properly, technical downtimes, potential negligence for data loss and possible patient access to conditions that they don t comprehend which may panic them. Although the EHR is still in a transitional state, this major shift that electronic medical records are taking is bringing many concerns to the table. Two concerns at the top of the list are privacy and standardization issues. In 1996, U.S. Congress enacted a non for profit organization called Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This law establishes national standards for privacy and security of health information. HIPAA deals with information standards, data integrity, confidentiality, accessing and handling your medical information. They also were designed to guarantee transferred information be protected from one facility to the next (Meridan, 2007). But even with the HIPAA privacy rules, they too have their shortcomings. HIPAA can t fully safeguard the limitations of who s accessible to your information. A short stay at your local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Red Flags And Audit Risk Factors Introduction The first part identifies and analyses key red flags from the case. The section continues with ethical issues, which are further explained by the fraud triangle framework and continues with independency issues. Part 2 introduces alternative courses of action by Martirossian and continues with an analysis of his role. The section concludes with a personal choice of favorable alternatives. Finally, the last section concludes the main aspects. Part 1 1.1 Red Flags and Audit Risk Factors AMRE s executives had incentives to keep the stock price on a high level The negative profit projections could have triggered a pressure situation for the executives, thus Koornhof and Du Plessis (2000) identified that an increasing financial pressure on a company s management to report favourable results on a constant basis is the main reason for deliberately misstating financial statements. Furthermore, companies which are facing financial distress are more likely to commit fraud (Albrecht et al., 2012, p. 147). According to AICPAAU Section 314 (2006), it is important for Price Waterhouse to understand the entity and its environment, in order to evaluate risks of material misstatement. Furthermore, it is their legal obligation (Arens et al., 2012, p. 131). In the audit planning stage, Price Waterhouse could have conducted analytical procedures, in order to compare the entity s financial information with anticipated results of AMRE, such as budgets or forecasts (AICPA, AU C ... Isolation And The Global Economy Josh Thompson 12/7/20147 POSC 397 Isolation and the Global Economy Introduction: My research aims to understand the relationship between radical political policy and trade relationship in a global economic context. This research is important in that it aims to understand why political isolation due to policy leads to certain economic circumstances and the ways in which politically isolated countries can counter the damage caused by an often lower trade level. I will also addresses the implications for trade partners of mostly politically isolated countries and how this can affect their own trade relations and political situations. Economic isolation can be a result of sanctions, but it can also be self imposed like in the case of countries like North Korea and Albania under communist control. These and other countries took a radical protectionist stance on trade in order to prevent cultural exchange and retain power within their countries. In From old comrades to new partnerships: dynamic development of economic relations between China and North Korea. Lee and Yoon take a look at the evolution of the relationship between North Korea and China. It s fair to say that without the help of the Chinese government North Korea s progress would have likely been much more stagnant due to their limited trading partners. Despite complicated relationships with the west North Korea has remained relatively politically stable over the course of the country s history, and they are moving towards increased economic stability despite trade sanctions and various human rights violations that have been placed against North Korea. This journal article looks at two key points in examining North Korea s relationship with China over the last 15 years. Firstly they look at China s growing level of investment and trade in North Korea. In 2000 North Korea exported around 40 million USD worth goods to China, by 2010 that figure had grown nearly 30 fold. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, one can conclude illiteracy is not a crisis. However, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society by Jonathan Kozol, implies something different. Kozol emphasizes the hardship of an illiterate, and briefly explains the importance of helping an illiterate without providing much of a solution, while Kozol s essay was ineffective overall because of the lack of factual evidence and flawed conclusions, his strategic use of tone, repetition and rhetorical questioning provided some strength to his argument. By establishing a sympathetic tone, Kozol effectively appeals our emotions, which provides slight strength to his argument. For example, Kozol explains his dream he experienced where he was in the Soviet, Then I remember that my card was confiscated for some reason, many years before. Around this point, I wake up in a panic (2). Kozol s tone illustrates how helpless the illiterates are and wants to appeal to our emotion of sympathy as he draws comparison to the same troubles and emotions he experienced in his dream as illiterates experience daily. That emotional impact provided some strength to his argument because it allows us to imagine an experience, which may be unfamiliar. Kozol insinuates that illiterates match logos printed on packages to distinguish the differences amongst food. Kozol points out, The purchaser who cannot read and does not dare ... Security background and threats of terrorism Since the beginning of a 21st century, an international security environment has been proved to be more volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguity with their challenging effects in various ways. • 27. A Few Good Men By Erich Fromm And Stanley Milgram The movie, A Few Good Men, is the story of how two marines go on trial for the murder of another marine. The movie then unfolds into an emotional drama which dives deep into conspiracy and the psychodynamics of following orders. A Few Good Men was a critically acclaimed movie and was nominated for multiple Academy Awards. Similarly, authors Erich Fromm and Stanley Milgram, wrote essays that explored the morals behind obedience, and how disobedience of immoral commands can bring betterment to others. Although A Few Good Men presents disobedience as being a vice, evidence from Milgram and Fromm suggest that disobedience can bring about an improvement on current conditions. In A Few Good Men, both Lance Cpl. Harold W. Dawson and Pfc. Louden Downey were obedient to Col. Nathan R. Jessup s order to give Santiago the Code Red, even though it went against their preset morals. Dawson saw, through his own conscience, that hurting another person because of small mistakes was immoral. But because of his believe in the marines code, Unit, Corp, God, Country, he was unable to allow himself to disobey a direct order. Author Milgram explored this same issue in his experiment. He asked why people followed orders no matter the negative effects it has on other people. In the study, roughly 60% of the test subject followed all orders to harms others. After the studies, Milgram inferred that this was because people have an underlying fear of disobeying a superior and do not trust their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The unknown artifact shown in Fig. 1. is one of these Egyptian pieces and dates back to the Old Kingdom sometime between 2500 2200 BCE. The artifact is a sculpture of two people standing beside each other. It is monolithic and carved in high relief so it is meant to be viewed from the front because the figures were carved attached to the rectangular slab of stone behind them. The figure on the left is a man. The organic forms of his musculature creates an implied line as light hits the sculpture and creates contrast between his muscles. This is particularly evident on his chest where the form of the pectorals and the indentations of abdominal muscles are defined. His only garment resembles a kilt with a belt and a curved pleat over the left half of it. The figure beside him is a woman because of her softer, more feminine hourglass figure. Though the man and her are proportionally similar, she is only as tall as his shoulders. She wears a garment with an ankle length skirt of a light fabric due to her knees and abdomen being defined with softer curved forms as opposed to the male s more pronounced bone structure unclothed. According to the textbook, stereotyping is attributing a set of qualities to a person because of his or her membership to some category (Beebe, Beebe, Redmond, 2011, 74). What makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the main cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever exist. The two broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim figure. She grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline lived an upper class lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost everything. In contrast, Max has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked since she was very young. The two girls are waitresses in a run down diner. While the comedy in the show does grab the attention of the audience, what also stands out is the connection of the characters.
