The endomembrane system is a network of membranes and organelles that transport molecules within eukaryotic cells. It includes the plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, vacuoles, vesicles, and nuclear envelope. The endomembrane system divides the cell into compartments and uses the transport of vesicles to move molecules like proteins and lipids between organelles like the ER, which packages proteins, and the Golgi apparatus, which further processes and packages them for export from the cell.
