Compare And Contrast Thyroid And Hypothyroidism
There are many different types of thyroid diseases. The two I would like to discuss are
hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. These two thyroid diseases have a few similarities and many
differences.
Hyperthyroidism is known as an overactive thyroid which occurs when the thyroid gland
overproduces thyroid hormones causing the body s natural functions to accelerate (University
Michigan, N.D.). On the contrary, hypothyroidism is known as an underactive thyroid which
occurs when the thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone which leads to the body s
natural functions slowing down. Hypothyroidism is more common, affecting five to twenty percent
of people in the United States. Meanwhile, only one percent of people in the United States ... Show

The symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, coarse, dry hair, hair loss, cold intolerance,
constipation, irritability, memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycle, and decreased libido (University
Michigan, N.D.). The symptoms of hyperthyroidism include hand tremors, mood swings,
nervousness, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, skin dryness, trouble sleeping, and weight
loss. Fatigue and muscle weakness are some symptoms of both hyperthyroidism and
hypothyroidism.
The process for diagnosing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism is exactly the same which includes
laboratory test, thyroid scan, and radioactive iodine uptake test. The laboratory test for diagnosing
both are thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test and thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI)
test (University Michigan, N.D.).
Treatment for both diseases is remarkably different. Hyperthyroidism treatment consists of
radioactive iodine, antithyroid medication and sometimes a beta blocker to alleviate symptoms
(Milas, 2014). There are two antithyroid medications available in the United States methimazole,
also known as Tapazole, and propylthiouracil. Tapazole and propylthiouracil both stop the thyroid
from producing T3 and T4 hormones. The most common treatment for hyperthyroidism is
radioactive

Cafe Terrace At Night Essay
The Colors of Cafe Terrace at Night It is no secret Vincent Van Gogh loves bright colors, many
of his paintings portray his world with lots of bright blues, yellows, and greens. One of his most
colorful and undoubtedly gorgeous paintings is CafГ© Terrace at Night. This is the first
painting Van Gogh did with a nocturnal background and yet there is no darkness in the back, but
instead the sky is filled with light blues and yellows; in many of the artist s paintings, even in the
day, the sky is filled with bright colors and swirls, Van Gogh says, I often think that the night is
more alive and more richly colored than the day. The painting was done in 1888, two years before
the artist committed suicide, and can be found at Kröller Müller Museum... Show more content on

One of the most recognizable letters is to his sister shortly after Van Gogh s trip to the cafe he
wrote a letter to his sister with his detailed thoughts on the cafe and his artwork. He wrote, On
the terrace, there are little figures of people drinking. A huge yellow lantern lights the terrace,
the façade, the pavement, and even projects light over the cobblestones of the street, which
takes on a violet pink tinge. It was obvious that Van Gogh was absorbed with the beauty of this
place. He describes the city of Arles, France as almost like being in Japan. He writes to his sister,
For myself, I don t need Japanese prints here, because I m always saying to myself that I m in
Japan here. That as a result I only have to open my eyes and paint right in front of me what
makes an impression on me. In September, 1888 Van Gogh told his brother that the stars held a
religious importance to him; his infatuation with stars took place in many of his paintings. Van
Gogh says in the same letter that he drew a photo of the same scene and sent it to his brother,
Theo; it can now be found in The Dallas Museum of

Ancient Greek Impact On Modern Society
The work f some ancient Greek writers, scientists, and philosophers until this day still continues to
inspire us, that is from the poetic writer Homer, to the instructor of Alexander the Great Aristotle.
Many of their literature writing were passed to one another orally and not recorded. Some of these
ancient Greek writers, scientists, and philosophers are Democritus, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato,
Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Sophocles, homer, Hippocrates, and Thales. These writers have had a
huge impact on modern society.
First, is Democritus, who broke down further and created the atomic theory. Democritus believed
that atoms cannot be destroyed, differ in size, shape, or temperature, and they are always moving,
and in fact invisible, and that

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This research paper is about social media and mobile connectivity and its importance to graphic

With research, one can find the demographic portrait of users throughout technology.
Popescu (2013) gives an easy to follow infographic that tells us the type of people who use certain
networking sites, social media most often used by adults and a few interesting facts pertaining to
age and social media. With that being said, when it comes to targeting an audience through
technology, it s possible to be approaching the situation from all the wrong angles. One could be
using a site to target men in their forties when it is primarily used by women in their teens and
twenties.
Seniors have proven to be a growing demographic in the world of technology in which they find cell
phones and computers as beneficial ways of communication. And, of course, the demographic
contributes to the continued use of healthy, security and home safety technology
(Orlov, 2011). Technology isn t limited to a single specific demographic, it is constantly evolving
3
and becoming a primary source of communication for the community. Being able to connect to an
audience through technology is to be connecting to the world and all the different people it has to
offer.
Technology of all kinds are being used by the diverse people of today. From teens to seniors, the
ability to connect with such a wide range of people is something that can only be accomplished via
technology. It is something to utilize, something to take

Long Distance Relationships Essay
Long Distance Relationships: Can They Work? Two clichГ©s: Absence makes the heart grow
fonder and Out of sight, out of mind. Which one of these two conflicting views is closer to the
reality? As it turns out, it does not really matter that much since long distance relationships (LDR)
suffer from exactly the same strengths and weaknesses as proximal relationships. Whether two
people are going to have fulfilling relationship does not only depend on their geographical
closeness. What matters is quality, not quantity. According to one expert on LDRs, the majority of
studies that have been done show no greater risk of an LDR breaking up than any other
relationship (Guldner, 2004, p. 6). An LDR relationship has the same likelihood of... Show more

conversation discovering that we share similar opinions on many issues. Before I could even
recover from the initial shock of seeing him again, he asked me to go out for a walk with him
the next day. I agreed and that was the beginning of our relationship. He had been divorced for
ten years and had made a decision to never marry again. I had normally dated men closer to my
age (in one case even younger than me) and would have never contemplated dating (much less
marry) somebody 21 years older then me. However, the unlikely happened to both of us. A few
months after our first date we got married. Today, five years later, we have two beautiful children
and have been living in a long distance marriage for three and a half years. It is definitely not easy
for us to maintain a successful marriage being an ocean apart. Our relationship, as any other, has its
strengths and its weaknesses. What I find the most important is the constant feeling of strong
commitment, warmth and mutual emotional dependability. These feelings compensate for the lack
of one extremely important ingredient: good communication. Intimacy requires that partners are
able to talk about anything and to feel understood by the loved one. It became apparent during our
marriage that neither of us have solid communication skills.

Writing Notes And Playing Video Games Essay
So you get home after a hard day at the office and you boot up your computer, but today you say
to yourself, I m tired of writing notes playing video games, I want to create something ! Your
girlfriend or your wife walk by you as you stare at the wall and she says, what are you dreaming
about ? Then you tell her that you really wanted to be a computerprogrammerinstead of a shoe
salesman. Then she says to you, you should have gone to college a few years to learn a computer
language ! But your 50 years old now and you don t have time and patience like you use to. Well,
I ll tell you something, every application that comes out on the market isn t created by someone
who sits down in front of a computer and punches in hours hours of c++ code or visual basic
scripts. Hey! Let s face it, it s the year 2007 and software technology is going forward faster that
you think. You don t have to sit in front of a computer for years cranking out a bunch of
computer code just to make a light blink anymore! The are applications out there in cyber space
that will allow you to create self running applications with color graphics, video, sound, music and
animation in them by simply using a drag drop interface. Maybe this doesn t mean much to you
but, you can certainly use your brain to do more creating rather than coding. Heck, I ve seen people
create some pretty awesome applications, music players, small games etc. And all without knowing

Essay about Audism Unveiled
Audism Unveiled
Audism by it s very definition is a negative or oppressive attitude towards deaf people by either
deaf or hearing people and organizations, and a failure to accommodate them. This documentary
really opened my eyes as to what deaf people have gone through since the beginning of time. They
have been treated with prejudice and oppression. They have been looked down upon as if they are
some sort of subhuman not worthy of being classified as a normal person because of the fact that
they cannot hear. Audism goes under the same category as racism, sexism, discrimination, etc. In
the movie, Audism Unveiled, they were many testimonials of different deaf people explaining their
stories of oppression simply because of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, he is an advocate for parents of deaf children to learn sign language so that no one would
ever have to experience what he had to. I think that all parents with deaf children should embrace
their child and their new culture and learn the language that is most easy for their child to
communicate in. Most deaf children feel lonely and abandoned from their families because no
one ever bothers to include them into family conversations. Whenever the deaf person would ask
what s going on, they would say Oh we ll tell you later. Always the same thing and deaf people are
tired of it. They want to know now and be included! It s not fair that they have to be left out just
because they re deaf. It causes depression and resentment in the deaf person when the family
constantly excludes the deaf family member. In some situations, deafness was viewed as evil. One
man said that his aunt told him that he must have been a bad man in his past life and as
punishment, he was born deaf in this life time. Hearing people do view being deaf as a misfortune,
but that does not justify the way that they get treated by hearing people. I think it s horrible how
they are viewed as unable. I would hate to imagine someone treating me like I m not able because I
m Hispanic or because I m gay. It would tear me apart and I m sure most deaf people feel the same
way. Audism needs to be a bigger issue among hearing people and they need to know that being
deaf is not a handicap, deaf

Junot Diaz Crash Short Story
Junot Diaz Drown universe is one filled with insecurities that disturbs the closest relationship
that the different characters find themselves in. One of the main issues explored, addressed in
the stories Fiesta 1980 , Aurora , and Drown , is how do your own insecurities affect your
attitude in your inter personal relationships? In these stories, the consequences of personal
insecurities of the character s relationships include conjugal violence, denial of adultery and
possible denial of sexual orientation. The first story that analyses the question of personal
baggage affecting romantic relationship is Fiesta, 1980 . From what I conclude, Mami s biggest
fear is to be alone, to not even have the possibility of getting attention from Papi. Consequently,
this fear of being alone pushes her to accept unreasonable actions coming from her husband
ranging from intimidating their children in pursuing a relationship with another woman behind
her back. Diaz criticizes the dependency of immigrant wife s to their husband. Furthermore, in
her eyes, her family is her sanctuary, henceforth she is willing to sacrifice her unhappiness to
protect her refuge. Diaz writes, Picturing her alone wasn t easy. It seemed like Papi had always
been with her, even when we were waiting in Santa Domingo for him to send for us. ( Fiesta,
1980 , 41). Demonstrating how destructive your insecurities can be to the growth of a healthy
relationship. I believe Diaz s is using the idea of a picture to

Government Housing Policy On Home Ownership Rates
Introduction
Promoting home ownership has been a public policy goal of the U.S Federal Government for
decades. U.S housing policies carried out by government entities aim to facilitate growth in home
ownership rates. In 2012, the federal government spent $270 billion to help Americans buy or rent
homes (Fischer Sard 2013). However, it has been argued that government housing polices have had
an insignificant impact on stimulating rates in home ownership. U.S Census Bureau recently
reported that home ownership rate decline to a 20 year low in 2014 (Gupta 2014). In order to
determine the effectiveness of government housing policy on home ownership rates, we examined
the impact of a number of government policies designed to improve ... Show more content on

In our closing section, we explain how government housing policies may have contributed to the
subprime mortgage crisis using the report How did we get into this finical mess by Lawrence H
White (2012). Overall, our results suggest that U.S government policy has proved ineffective in
stimulating home ownership rates in the long run. Through the reinforcement of federal policy,
improvements can be made by the Federal government to encourage and support homeownership in
the future.
Recent Trends in Homeownership:
One of the notable issues with the U.S housing market is the extent to which the Government
failed to stimulate home ownership rates in the long run. Historical trends in the U.S home
ownership rates show stagnant growth in home ownership after the early 1960 s. The Federal
Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review indicated that homeownership rates remained relatively constant
from 1965 to 1995, despite a wide variety of government policies aimed at stimulating home
ownership (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review 2006). Following 1995, the U.S home
ownership rates indicated significant improvements. According to the U.S Statistical Abstract,
aggregate home ownership during the period 1995 to 2005 indicated a record high for the U.S
housing market (Chambers, Garriga, Schlagenhauf 2008). Matthew Chambers, a professor for

Why The Enzyme Is Understanding Their Properties Essay
An important aspect of studying proteins is understanding their properties. The hypothesis of this
experiment aimed to test whether the enzyme in question, N acetyl ОІ D Hexosaminidase, has an
overall negative charge and will elute from the DEAE column in the first protein peak. The
experiment was done in two parts. The absorbance values obtained from conducting the Lowry
proteinassay were used to extrapolate the total amount of protein and calculate the concentration of
the protein. The total amount of protein in the sample was 120Вµg and the concentration of the
protein was 24.0 Вµg/Вµl, which was within the allowed range of error. An enzymeassay with
paranitrophenol was conducted to determine the specific activity of the enzyme. The specific
activity of the isozyme HEX B was calculated to be 0.00009 units/mg and the specific activity of
the isozyme HEX A was 0.00004 units/mg. At the conclusion of this experiment, the data obtained
from the ionexchange chromatography indicated that the unknown protein sample contained two
isozymes of the enzyme N acetyl ОІ D Hexosaminidase. It was observed that isozyme HEX A had
an overall negative charge and therefore eluted last from the DEAE column, whereas HEX B had
an overall positive charge and did not bind to the column, hence eluted first.
INTRODUCTION Ion exchange chromatography is a separation technique that separates
molecules and ions based on their overall net charge (1,6). It can be used to separate amino acids,
proteins, and

6902 families have been evicted from San Francisco in 22 years. This isn t counting the

utilize the law are often in neither situation. Due to the growing controversy, Senator Mark Leno

California. As the Leno Amendment attempts to aid the financial situation of the tenants by giving
them more time to relocate, as well as being paid relocation fees, the state of California is

Essay On Roe V. Wade
Prior to the landmark case of Roe vs. Wade, abortion was legal in the United States under
common law and with several stipulations. It was legal under the advice of medical personnel or in
the attempt to save a mother s life. Though abortion were widely available it was considered a
secretive and back alley procedure that threatened the life of the patient and the persons conducting
the abortion. In 1965, illegal abortions made up one sixth of all pregnancyand childbirth related
deaths. A survey conducted between 1965 and 1967 found that 8 in 10 low income women in New
York City who had an abortion attempted a dangerous self induced procedure
(planedparenthood.com).
Jane Roe (not her real name) was an unmarried woman from Texas. At the time, Texas state law
declared it a felony to conduct an abortion without the direct approval of a medical doctor. The
District Attorney of Dallas at the time was a man named Henry Wade. Roe filed a suit against Mr.
Wade and Texas State law that it was violating her Constitutional rights to choose.
It was the Supreme Court decision to overrule not only Texas s law but all laws that prohibited the
abortion of a fetus after the first trimester of a pregnancy. In a 7 2 decision they declared it was in

The Great Influenza By John Barry Analysis
Determined journalists, travelers, and people of other professions believe in exploring the natural

embrace their passions with certainty that they will discover something worthwhile, ignoring the

Essay On Port Royal
Introduction
In the Civil War, there were many battles and key points that helped in the victory of the Union.
The Battle of Port Royal was the second battle of the Civil War. The Battle of Port Royal
culminated an amphibious operation designed to establish a United States military depot on the
southeastern coast to carry out land and sea operations against the Confederacy (Wise 2016). This
battle gave the Union its first victory. In November 1861 the Union attacked the Confederate at Port
Royal, South Carolina. This battle lasted for four days from November Third, 1861 to November
Seventh, 1861. This battle had the Union fighting the Confederate for control over the port. The
Union took control and shut down the port. This Union victory shut down a place of resources for
the Confederate.
Background Information
Three days after the fall of Fort Sumter in April of 1861, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed
a blockade of all Southern ports ( The story of the Battle of Port Royal 2012).After the fall of Fort
Sumter, there was a new order for the ports to be closed. The South refused this order. Because of
this refusal, the Union wanted to punish the South. The North had a plan to form a blockade of the

SKS Manufacturing has recently hired Deloitte Touche as they are in a critical cash position with
various internal inefficiencies in their procurement and production processes. Deloitte Touche and
SKS Manufacturing will need to work together in order to solve the issues present at SKS
Manufacturing so they can be successful within the automotive parts industry.
Issues Analysis
There are three key issues that are present at SKS Manufacturing that need to be systematically
tackled in order for stabilization of the business to occur and the long term redesigning process to
be effective. The key issues facing SKS Manufacturing are: (1) cash flow shortage (2) weak
alignment and integration within the value chain and (3) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Integration Alignment
Alignment and integration is a key issue that is causing turmoil at SKS Manufacturing as the firm
is not able to have efficient cross functionality. This is due to (1) a lack of technological
integrations as a centralized information sharing system is not being effectively used within
divisions, causing inaccurate data to reflect poor forecasting decisions. (1.1)This leads to the
biggest driver of poor performance, which is inaccurate forecasting as information, is not being
accurately analyzed, causing procurement and production to make poor business decisions.
(2)The divisions are also not aligned as the sales division dumps orders before the end of the
quarter without recognizing if production has capacity to manufacture or even if enough material
is on hand to complete the order, causing delivery delays (A3). (2.1)This leads to incomplete
orders and loss in revenue, which will affect the bottom line as fixed costs remain the same. This is
a critical issue that needs to be addressed by Deloitte Touche and SKS Manufacturing as all core
functions of the business need to be integrated utilizing information control systems that share
information. Additionally all of the business functions need to be aligned by understanding each
other s capabilities and needs so they do not create last minute problems for

Difference Between Alphabet And International Phonetic Theory
In this essay, we will see the general difference between the International Phonetic Alphabet and
the general phonetic theory. We will see what studies and researches the two arguments include
and in what ways they are seen to coincide. The International Alphabet was created by the
International Phonetic Association in 1888 and has endured constant reexamination since. The
IPA can be said to come close to carry out the ideal one to one relation between the sound and the
written symbol and this does not apply only for one language but is taken as the ideal example
for all the languages in the world. In fact to learn about the sound structure of all the languages a
lot of research has to be done and this has to be done in different areas of study like, anatomy,
physiology and acoustics of the vocal tract, to see what sounds are used in speech and therefore
how they are defined by the international alphabet. Hence, The IPA symbols are generalizations.
Yet the speech sounds, are more complicated the what they seem. Every individual sound is unique
and it also differs from a language to another and therefore we can see that this is... Show more

A number of related concepts need to be inserted to lessen some of the deficiencies of an ongoing
segmental concept. One of these concepts is the segment when having an internal structure, made

form the structure of a phonetic component for a grammar. The function of the theory is to
associate linguistic descriptions with the facts of speech and to do so it must be expressed in the
simplest, most comprehensive form possible and in a way which enables transparency of this

African-American Stereotypes
In the works Let the Great World Spin, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jazz, and The Help,
the portrayals of African Americans reinforce established racial stereotypes. Dorcas and the
prostitutes represent the jezebel; the absent male is viewed and reinforced through the perspectives
of Violet, Golden Gray, and even Minny; Aibileen and Minny represent the mammies, and in a way,
Jim is Huck s mammy too. While there are instances in all four novels of characters challenging
stereotypes, these characters primarily reinforce racial stereotypes.
The jezebel represents a female character who is sexually promiscuous and very sexualized. In
Jazz, by Toni Morrison, Dorcas aligns closely with the jezebel description. Dorcas wants to detach

Minny is described by the narrator as 33, black, plump and in uniform, rolls her eyes beneath a
crystal chandelier. She shouts up the mahogany stairwell (Stockett 6). The mammy character also
represents a female character who is sassy and not a threat to the household s male. Aibileen is
older than Minny, and her relatives before her were also housemaids who worked for white
families. Aibileen says: I know how to get them babies asleep, stop cryin and go in the toilet bowl
before they mommas even get outta bed in the mornin (Stockett 2). In The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain, the character who resembles the mammy the closest is
Jim. While Jim s physical description is not that of a mammy, his mentality is. From different
perspectives, Jim is Huck s mammy because of his guidance, superstitions, and parental like
figure all attributes of a mammy. Jim says: Lemme look at you chile, lemme feel o you. No, you
ain t dead! you s back again, live and soun, jis de same ole Huck de same ole Huck, thanks to
goodness! (Twain 325). Jim s parental like concern for Huck is similar to that of a nanny, and
specifically of Aibileen s, who cares very much for Mae Mobley. Three characters in particular,
Violet, Golden Gray, and Minny, reinforce the absent male stereotype
. Violet was born in the late
1800 s in Virginia. Her mother was Rose Dear, but her father, who was not named, left Violet s
family when she was very young.

The mining industry in developing nations often lacks the enforcement of ethical principles, laws
and regulations. I therefore believe developing nations are better off without large mining
companies operating within them. Mining majors can use force to get there way and this often
includes political involvement and corruption. Mining companies often overlook the artisanal
miners, that use the mine as their lone source of income, and move them out from the mines. The

As corruption is seen as a cheaper alternative to fixing the problem. I believe that developing
nations are better off without mining majors in operation within them because of the possibility
for government corruption. Developing nations are better off without mining majors because
the country is seen as a target for large revenue gains, the Global Business Standards Codex and
fair treatment of local people can often be disregarded at the expense of profits. Artisanal miners
live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of
ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then
they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has
always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide
housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away
from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. An example of this is the
Canadian mining company in Essakane, Burkina Faso (Siegel 2013). As global mining companies
seek new avenues of revenue they are increasingly turning to the developing world. In developing
countries mining is used by locals as a source of income when farms fail, which is becoming
increasingly common with global warming. The increasing number of artisanal miners causes

The Introduction of the Burqini in Europe
In January of 2007, a new style of bathing suit known as the Burqini became a media sensation.
Burqini is a multi piece head to toe bathing suit designed especially for women who follow Islam
and practice sartorial hijab and cover their entire body except face hands and feet. The media
created this portmanteau of burqa and bikini and referred to these full body multi piece swimsuits
to modestly dress Muslim women as burqinis. Burqini has received a lot of attention from media
from all over the world; both positive and negative, making it a sensational piece of garment in
21st century. The most public attention gained by this garment was in 2009 when it was banned in
Emerainville , a suburb of Paris in France and later in Italy making because it was unhygienic and
inappropriate clothing for a public baths. Therefore, making Burqini one of the most controversial
piece of clothing as it questions culture, religion, health and hygiene of the individual who wears
a Burqini along with the people who are in the same bath as the individual wearing Burqini. This
paper discusses how and why Burqini became a controversial piece of garment by focusing on
news stories, written records and personal interviews of people who wear Burqini. It critically
analyses and focuses on how this controversy of faith versus hygiene of Burqini wearers is just a
result of cultural clash.
Introduction of the burqini in Europe led to juxtaposing perspectives on whether or not it should be

Asynchronous Transfer Mode Wireless Network
Project name: ATM wireless network ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) has been advocated
as an important technology for all types of services and networks. Most people believe that
ATM will be the standard for the future B ISDN (Broadband Integrated Services Digital
Network). From the service point of view, ATM combines both the data and multimedia
information into the wired networks while scales well from backbones to the customer premises
networks. To ensure the success of ATM, lots of the design issues have been standardized by
ATM Forum. Wireless personal communication networks (PCN) has been growing very fast in
the last decade. Nowadays, laptop, cellular phone, and pagers are very popular. Many systems
have been developed to provide different services, such as, Personal Communications Service
(PCS), Portable Telephone Systems, and Satellite Communications System. Usually, these
services do not guarantee QoS (Quality of Services) so they are not suitable for the fast growing
multimedia applications. Due to the success of ATM on wired networks, wireless ATM (WATM)
is a direct t result of the ATM everywhere movement. WATM can be viewed as a solution for next
generation personal communication networks, or a wireless extension of the B ISDN networks,
which will support integrated data transmission (data, voice and video) with guaranteed QoS.
WATM architecture and protocols are already being well discussed. The ATM Forum are currently

Programme: International Marketing
Introduction
This essay will attempt to describe and explain how organizations use branding theory and practice
to help develop, establish and maintain their positions in both existing and potential markets. To do
so it will be structured into four chapters that will be supported by examples:
1.What is a brand and why they matter.
2.How to develop a brand.
3.How to establish and maintain a brand.
4.How to develop establish and maintain brands in existing and potential markets.
What is a brand and why they matter
What is a brand? According to the American Marketing Association (AMA) a brand is a name,
term, sign, symbol, or design, or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods and services
of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competition (AMA, 2004).
These identifiable elements are called brand elements.
According to Robert Scott, author of Fighting the brand wars, a brand is any name, logo, phrase,
or slogan that sticks with the public and evokes a particular product or service (Scott, 2002).
Brands evolve and over time they have become part of our everyday life and have left the
traditional notion of being what represented a company or product name. From the 1366 Stella
Artois logo that is still being used to the 2004 action camera GoPro that uses its customers as

Anthem Security Breach Case Study
In January 27, 2015, it was revealed that a security breach had occurred at Anthem, Inc (Ragan,
2015). The breach has been in position since December with hackers gaining access to massive
amounts of user and customer data. What kinds of mistakes did Anthem make? How bad were
they? Could they have had better protections in place? Would deeper cryptography have helped
with the securityand safety of the data that Anthem kept? These are the questions we need to answer.
The discovery of the breach looks like it was made by accident, but, in truth, it was the work of a
savvy database administrator. The administrator noticed that his credentials were being used to run
queries that he didn t run. However, this wasn t the first time that hackers had tried to breach the
Anthem security precautions. In fact, they had tried multiple times, but failed each time until they
succeeded. The true power of the hackers was patience, which recalls the simple truth of security.
The simple truth of security, whether that security be physical or cyber, is that there is no system
which cannot be breached if you have enough time.

it s always about people. A company can have the best security protections in place and the hackers

Causes Of Drug Legalization
In the United States, we have many conflicts such as discrimination, war between other counties,
and most importantly the debate of drug legalization. The reason for the debate/conflict on drug
legalization is because of timely matter. For an example, Colorado and Washington have passed
laws for the legalizing the recreational use of marijuana (Rosenkraz, 2016). The United Stateshas
been fighting a war with drugfor 41 years. The estimated costs so far is about 2.5 trillion dollars
(Dovan, 2016). Therefore, that information shows why Americans are debating about the
legalization of drugs. Many Americans do not favor the cause of drug legalization, but there are
minority who disagree. I am one of the minority whom does favor the cause of drug legalization.
My goal in this paper is to give my opinion and information to show why I do favor the legalization
of drugs.
In the article, 14 Years After Decriminalizing All Drugs, Here s What Portugal Looks Like, it
discussed how Portuguese government decriminalized all drugs. The country of Portugal has been
under the decriminalization for fourteen years now and stated that they have been doing better
than ever before (Zeeshanaleem, 2016). For example, there is no intense increase in crime for
drug use. The number of people arrested and sent to criminal courts for drug offenses declined by
more than 60 percent since decriminalization. (Drug Policy Alliance, 2015). The number of

Analysis Of The Poem Starry Night By Anna Sexton
What need is there to weep over parts of life? The whole of it calles for tears.
Seneca
The poem, Starry Night , by Anna Sexton, which was interpretation of a personal view for Van

Night, ensues the melancholy of humanity. The poem depicts Sexton s interpretation of the
immense psychological suffering of a religious human being. By addressing, Van Gogh s work
caught with a deep understanding of an emptiness of the soul and also the familiar warfare of his
mental distresses. Sexton showcases the shared tiredness of life, by describing religion as an
example of extreme emotional desperation. However, the poem dilutes the attention of many
optimistic people who do not share its attire, instead an interpretation must be attained by those who
can have a glimpse of their own eternal suffering. Although, the poetry has tragic finishing, it re
opens for me personally, the divinity of melancholy.
Everyone is vulnerable and susceptible to the usual heartbreak of life. Anne Sexton suicide was only
one of many who desperately wanted to achieve an unrelenting wave of relief. For these

Barbers of the past and the future. When we look at designs that we put on ourselves now days,
we mostly think of Louis Vuitton clothes or bags, or those new pair of Jordan s that cost about
$250. However, there are other things that can be classified as designs that we have on our body.
In this case, haircuts. We all cut our hairs, and when we do this, we do not always cut it the
same. There are hundreds of kinds of natural hair and comes with it hundreds of kinds of hair
styles. The thing is, we never think any of haircuts when we get them. We never ask ourselves
about how haircuts started in the first place. How they have evolved or even how they affect us.
There are not a whole lot of people that do not mess with their hair. When we look... Show more

barbering. Speaking of which, we first have to ask ourselves, What is barbering? or in other
forms What is a barber? When we look this definition up in the Oxford dictionary, it gives us a
definition of A person who cuts hair, especially men s and shaves or trims beards as an
occupation . This is all said and done if we only want to now the CURRENT meaning of barber.

Historical Significance Of Japanese History
History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of fishing and pottery
making began; however, official Japanese history was first recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan,
2016). In the 1930 s and 40 s, Japan became more prominent in the global stage due to its
participation in the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings
(1945) during the World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since the 1950 s, Japan has been recognized as one
of the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world. The fact that Japan is an
island has historically made it difficult to invade and has allowed the country to withstand
conflict between other countries. This has been demonstrated in various imperialistic conflicts in
certain parts of Asia. Places of Interest There are many notable places in Japan such as Mt. Fuji,
Nachi Falls, Sagano Bamboo Forest, and Aogashima (Ma, 2015). These places have both
historical significance and natural beauty. Mt. Fuji is one of the tallest volcanoes in Japan
(UNESCO, 2013). Life evolves around the dormant volcano, as its large presence has become an
icon and artistic muse for everyday life in Japan (Smithsonian Institution, 2013). Nachi Falls is an
orange, Buddhist and Shinto shrine. It is accompanied by a 133 meter waterfall that has
contributed to religious development in the area for the past centuries (Japan guid.com, 2016).
Lastly, Aogashima is an active volcanic island made up of a volcano

Napoleon Bonaparte The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte: The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the most successful and controversial military leaders of all time.
Leading France from the years 1799 to 1815, he would establish the French empire, a superpower
that was very similar to that of the Romans. In only sixteen years, Bonaparte came close to
conquering all of Europe, but paid a steep price for his triumph. During his reign, Napoleon
Bonaparte An exhibit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art should portray Napoleon Bonaparte as a
ruthless conqueror, not an enlightened despot, as he enforced legalist like policies, brought on the
Napoleonic wars, and was driven solely by his desire for power. These three factors revealed some

These wars, while trying to establish the French Empire, would significantly weaken France.
During his reign, Bonaparte s main goal was to conquer all of Europe. In order to do so, he
recognized that he needed to defeat France s main threat, Great Britain. In order to weaken them,
Bonaparte created the Continental system. The Continental system was a set of blockades that
was designed to cut the British off from trade with the rest of Europe... (but,) by 1812, it was
clear that the Continental system was not working. (Source E) Underestimating the power of
Great Britain s superior navy, Bonaparte did not realize that the British would able to make their
own blockades around France. Napoleon Bonaparte would blame Russia for his failure, and invade
the vast country. This would be the biggest failure of his career. In an attempt to defeat his new
enemy, Bonaparte would march 600,000 thousand troops into Russia. Even as the weather
conditions worsened, Bonaparte decided to always push further into Russia, trying to conquer
Moscow before winter, (Source E) which he knew would cost him more lives. Eventually losing
about 500,000 of these men, he return to France with the remains of an army. This means that
Bonaparte did not consider what the cost of these wars could be. This is significant, as this is a
decision that no enlightened monarch would make. Instead of actually thinking about the

The Media Of Indigenous Australians
Part A Media Analysis
There is a populace of 18 million in Australia with Indigenous Australians making up roughly one
percent of the Australian population. Due to this, the closest that a non Indigenous Australians will
come to have contact with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is through representation
in the Australian media. Most media stories are viewed as one sided or racist with even the Prime
Minster Tony Abbott making comments that it is a lifestyle choice for the Indigenous peoplesto live
the way that they do in small communities consisting of up to 8 people. These statements that he
had made is seen as racist, leaving him open to criticism by members if his own party, friends and
his opponents. The 2 articles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article gives the reader an inequitable view of Indigenous Australians, defending Tony Abbot s
point of view and the audience is encouraged to agree with mainstream media in regards to whether
or not Tony Abbott is racist. Article B from the Koori Mail condemns Tony Abbott s viewpoint as
not only racist but he is insulting the very culture that he is representing. Article B states that Tony
Abbott does not understand Indigenous culture and how important land is to them Connection to
country is everything to Aboriginal people defines Aboriginal people and sustains us in a cultural
and spiritual sense and can play a vital role in building economic independence, self determination
and healing (Greg Cromelin, Article B). With Article B the audience is encouraged to get angry at
Tony Abbott s comments and make him out to be racist.
Misrepresentation of Indigenous Australians in the media, as seen in the Courier Mail (Article A)
and the Koori Mail (Article B), shows a different side of Tony Abbott s comments. Each with their
own biases and by comparing the two articles it shows that good representations in the media still
have a long way to go.

negative and positive news reports, how journalists

Difference Between Social Phobias
Social fear dates back to 400 B.C. and was referenced to by Hippocrates as someone who loves
darkness as life (Cunic). Social phobia and social neurosis were terms they started using in the
early 1900s to refer to extremely shy patients. In the 1960s, Isaac Marks proposed that social
phobias may be separated from the other simple phobias and in the second edition of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, social fears were described as specific
phobiaand the definition was very narrow (Cunic). In the later editions of the DSM, they made
many revisions to the criteria for the disorder. They added that it was the fearof performance
situations, the symptoms must interfere or show distress, and they changed the same from social...

Both face severe anxiety, but for different reasons. The symptoms while having the anxiety are
similar which is why they can be confused. When people have attacks in panic disorder, they feel
that they experienced it because something is physically wrong with them. For example, they may
feel as if they are having a heart attack. They believe that their anxiety and attacks are related to
something physical. People with social phobia do not believe that their anxiety is related to
something physical. Another difference between the two is that people with panic disorder tend to
be very social. People with social phobia will not develop agoraphobia, fear of having another panic
attack, but may develop avoidant personality disorder, people cut themselves off from the world
in fear of others and social interactions. The same goes for panic disorder. However, both may
turn to alcohol and substance abuse to reduce the anxiety. To differentiate between the two, the
source of the anxiety needs to be determined. If it is a fear of a physical condition, than it is panic
disorder. If it is a fear of social interaction than it is social

Community Experience At An Alcoholics Anonymous ( Aa )
Community Experience Paper
How you found the process (the ease/difficulty) of accessing your group. For the consumer, what
might be challenges in finding and/or following through with going and committing to the group
you went to? (Discuss potential practical and/or psychological obstacles.)
I attended an Alcoholics Anonymous(AA) meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 6:00 pm at the St.
Francis Medical Center (SFMC) conference room 5. I found the process of accessing the group I
attended easy. I used the website: http://coloradospringsaa.org/find a meeting. By entering a few
parameters, I was able to locate a meeting within a few miles of my house. For the consumer, the
challenge might not be in finding a location to meet their needs but simply following through and
committing to attend a meeting. The meeting does not hold its members accountable for their
presence (i.e., no attendance is taken). Participation is solely comprised of the self dedication on
the part of those maintaining sobriety. Moreover, attending a meeting is a lifelong commitment.
This may pose as a hindrance or tedious task to devote time away from work, social, or family
commitments. A client may easily persuade themselves out of going in light of a more appealing
alternative.
Describe what the group s purpose is. Was the stated purpose clear (written and/or verbally stated)
and was that consistent with the experience you had? Was there a focus topic during your group? If
so, what was that topic?

Atlantic Slave Trade
The origins of the Atlantic Slave Trade were products of Western Europe s expansion of power that
began at the beginning of the 1500 s through the 1900 s. The main contributing European countries
to the Atlantic Slave Trade were Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, France, and England. Portugal
lead the movement during the 1400 s and arrived in Western Africain hopes to find Christian allies
to spread Christianity against the Muslims of Northern Africa. But they soon became more
interested in trade (Hine, Hine Harrold, 2011). Slavery, however, has existed in all cultures for
thousands of years. For example, Arab merchants and West African Kings imported white European

Many times, especially during storms, the slavers neglected to feed the slaves or change the

Sanitation was also a major contributor to death and disease. Only about three or four toilet tubs
were provided for all of the slaves. Mortality rates were exceptionally high on the ships,
averaging around 15%. Overall, about one third of all slaves died during the whole process of
moving them from Africa to the Americas. The main causes of mortality on the ships were
diseases such as small pox, malaria, dysentery, yellow fever and measles (Hine, Hine Harrold,
2011).
There was however still rebellions from the captive slaves aboard the ships. Rebellions usually
occurred when the ship was getting ready to set sail or when they ships were still within sight of
the Africa land mass, when there was still hope for the slaves to return home. Often times slaves
would actually starve themselves intentionally or try to jump off the ship to drown. But to
combat this, the slavers would sometimes put nets on the side of the ship to stop jumpers and
to deal with those who would refuse to eat, the slavers would use hot coals to force individual s
mouths open to eat (Hine, Hine Harrold, 2011). The women aboard the slave ships were treated
very badly as well. They were often raped and sexually abused. Many times, all of the women were

Alaska climate change and decreasing in population My name is Zachary Rowe, I am going to

various living animal species. The number of large predators living in the southern Beaufort Sea
of Alaska has decreased from 1,500 animals in 2001, to just under 900 in 2010. As the species are
decreasing in numbers, they are now listed as vulnerable by the International Union for the

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have observed that approximately one
million reindeer were alive in 2000, now in 2013 only 700,000 units remain. Also, scientists have
recorded that many ranging deer herds are significantly smaller than they have been in the past
several recorded years. In 2012 the International Fund of Wildlife s according to the national
geographic Jeff Flocked said, There has been roughly a 60 percent decline from historical high
levels, and that the decline was caused by suspected climate change . Researchers in Finland have
found that the grazing of a reindeer could help prevent solar heat absorption, which in the result;
can lead to climate change temperature swings. Scientists have also found out that in areas where
reindeer don t graze there are higher levels of heat radiation. Wooded areas are showing that the
levels of shrubs and trees have also absorbed heat. Swedish scientists has found that reindeer can
also prevent the climate change caused of a spread of invasive species in the Arctic Tundra. A study
from Redlist Industrial Development and Human Activity shows that poaching animals are also

Fda And Merck
The primary ethical dilemma in this case revolves around corporate social responsibility and
ethical practices versus profitability and maximizing shareholder wealth. In this case, Merck had to
decide between profits at the center of the company s shareholders wealth, the company s image
from a corporate social responsibilityperspective, and the welfare of the community. The company
had a responsibility to safely serve the public and meet the interest of all parties involved without
compromising the interests of key stakeholders. Merck s practices regarding the Vioxx debacle

the consumer. Consequently, they stand in clear violation of the principles... Show more content on

They could have continued to market the product, but with revised labeling to identify it was a

the situation and advise that Merck is committed to the safety of all patients. This would not only
continue to establish Merck s good reputation but would build trust with the doctors, patients, and
stakeholders. While it would likely decrease revenues in the short term, both the company and the
general public would benefit in the long term. Appropriate patients could continue Vioxx treatment,
receiving pain relief with potentially no GI side effects. The health and safety of high risk patients
would not be violated as they would not be appropriate for Vioxx treatment. The Merck team would
continue to have jobs, Merck s company reputation would be valued, and the stakeholders would
continue to earn revenues, rather than lawsuits. This would represent a utilitarian approach since it
would provide an ethical solution for the greater good for the greatest number of

Fourth Amendment Violations
The US Patriot Act: Violations of the 4th Amendment
The US Patriot Act was a very controversial act that was created after the events of September 11,
2011. Although many sanctions under the US Patriot Act grossly violated the fourth amendment in
several ways, congress felt it was necessary to protect the nation. Sections that violated the fourth
amendment are: the sneak and peek warrants included in section 213, roving/warrantless
wiretapping of section 206, and finally trap and trace searches of section 214. These are just a few
of the many violations I can account for. The Fourth Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights that
was added to the Constitution in 1791. It protects people from unlawful searches and seizures. This
means that the police can t search you or your house without a warrant or probable cause. Are we

In 2007, a District Judge found such warrants to be unconstitutional. However, the government
appealed this ruling, and these warrants remain concerns for many citizens today. This gives law
enforcement officials too much power with very few limitations or oversight. With the state of our
countries race relations and the ongoing utilization of profiling amongst law enforcement, tensions
amongst citizens and law enforcement are on a continued rise. Roving/warrantless wiretapping,
Section 206 enabled the Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies to
easily obtain records on individuals without their knowledge. Roving wiretaps have long been used
in criminal cases to allow law enforcement to follow a target across multiple telephone or internet
accounts when there s reason to believe the suspect is frequently changing lines to frustrate

The Abc Sitcom 2 Broke Girls
The CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls has had continuous success ever since it first aired in 2011. What
makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the
main cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever
exist. The two broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and
a slim figure. She grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline
lived an upper class lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost
everything. In contrast, Max has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked
since she was very young. The two girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner
is owned by a very short Asian man named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named
Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they learn how to deal with each other and their lower class
lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial
stereotypes of the characters to make comedic entertainment. While the comedyin the show does
grab the attention of the audience, what also stands out is the connection of the characters. All of
the commonalities that come with living in similar situations overpower their differences in race
and ethnicity. Even though the characters stereotypes and interactions are constantly being mocked
for comedic material, they all have a special bond

Why Did The Han Dynasty Monopome

In the inner court of Emperor Zhao s regent time (later Western Han), there is a debate about is it

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Thyroid And Hypothyroidism There are many different types of thyroid diseases. The two I would like to discuss are hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. These two thyroid diseases have a few similarities and many differences. Hyperthyroidism is known as an overactive thyroid which occurs when the thyroid gland overproduces thyroid hormones causing the body s natural functions to accelerate (University Michigan, N.D.). On the contrary, hypothyroidism is known as an underactive thyroid which occurs when the thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone which leads to the body s natural functions slowing down. Hypothyroidism is more common, affecting five to twenty percent of people in the United States. Meanwhile, only one percent of people in the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, coarse, dry hair, hair loss, cold intolerance, constipation, irritability, memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycle, and decreased libido (University Michigan, N.D.). The symptoms of hyperthyroidism include hand tremors, mood swings, nervousness, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, skin dryness, trouble sleeping, and weight loss. Fatigue and muscle weakness are some symptoms of both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. The process for diagnosing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism is exactly the same which includes laboratory test, thyroid scan, and radioactive iodine uptake test. The laboratory test for diagnosing both are thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test and thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) test (University Michigan, N.D.). Treatment for both diseases is remarkably different. Hyperthyroidism treatment consists of radioactive iodine, antithyroid medication and sometimes a beta blocker to alleviate symptoms (Milas, 2014). There are two antithyroid medications available in the United States methimazole, also known as Tapazole, and propylthiouracil. Tapazole and propylthiouracil both stop the thyroid from producing T3 and T4 hormones. The most common treatment for hyperthyroidism is radioactive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cafe Terrace At Night Essay The Colors of Cafe Terrace at Night It is no secret Vincent Van Gogh loves bright colors, many of his paintings portray his world with lots of bright blues, yellows, and greens. One of his most colorful and undoubtedly gorgeous paintings is CafГ© Terrace at Night. This is the first painting Van Gogh did with a nocturnal background and yet there is no darkness in the back, but instead the sky is filled with light blues and yellows; in many of the artist s paintings, even in the day, the sky is filled with bright colors and swirls, Van Gogh says, I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day. The painting was done in 1888, two years before the artist committed suicide, and can be found at KrГ¶ller MГјller Museum... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most recognizable letters is to his sister shortly after Van Gogh s trip to the cafe he wrote a letter to his sister with his detailed thoughts on the cafe and his artwork. He wrote, On the terrace, there are little figures of people drinking. A huge yellow lantern lights the terrace, the faГ§ade, the pavement, and even projects light over the cobblestones of the street, which takes on a violet pink tinge. It was obvious that Van Gogh was absorbed with the beauty of this place. He describes the city of Arles, France as almost like being in Japan. He writes to his sister, For myself, I don t need Japanese prints here, because I m always saying to myself that I m in Japan here. That as a result I only have to open my eyes and paint right in front of me what makes an impression on me. In September, 1888 Van Gogh told his brother that the stars held a religious importance to him; his infatuation with stars took place in many of his paintings. Some of these ancient Greek writers, scientists, and philosophers are Democritus, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Aristophanes, Aeschylus, Sophocles, homer, Hippocrates, and Thales. One could be using a site to target men in their forties when it is primarily used by women in their teens and twenties. Seniors have proven to be a growing demographic in the world of technology in which they find cell phones and computers as beneficial ways of communication. And, of course, the demographic contributes to the continued use of healthy, security and home safety technology (Orlov, 2011). As it turns out, it does not really matter that much since long distance relationships (LDR) suffer from exactly the same strengths and weaknesses as proximal relationships. Whether two people are going to have fulfilling relationship does not only depend on their geographical closeness. What matters is quality, not quantity. It is definitely not easy for us to maintain a successful marriage being an ocean apart. Our relationship, as any other, has its strengths and its weaknesses. Essay about Audism Unveiled Audism Unveiled Audism by it s very definition is a negative or oppressive attitude towards deaf people by either deaf or hearing people and organizations, and a failure to accommodate them. This documentary really opened my eyes as to what deaf people have gone through since the beginning of time. They have been treated with prejudice and oppression. They have been looked down upon as if they are some sort of subhuman not worthy of being classified as a normal person because of the fact that they cannot hear. Audism goes under the same category as racism, sexism, discrimination, etc. In the movie, Audism Unveiled, they were many testimonials of different deaf people explaining their stories of oppression simply because of the ... I think that all parents with deaf children should embrace their child and their new culture and learn the language that is most easy for their child to communicate in. Most deaf children feel lonely and abandoned from their families because no one ever bothers to include them into family conversations. Whenever the deaf person would ask what s going on, they would say Oh we ll tell you later. Always the same thing and deaf people are tired of it. They want to know now and be included! It s not fair that they have to be left out just because they re deaf. It causes depression and resentment in the deaf person when the family constantly excludes the deaf family member. In some situations, deafness was viewed as evil. One man said that his aunt told him that he must have been a bad man in his past life and as punishment, he was born deaf in this life time. Hearing people do view being deaf as a misfortune, but that does not justify the way that they get treated by hearing people. I think it s horrible how they are viewed as unable. I would hate to imagine someone treating me like I m not able because I m Hispanic or because I m gay. It would tear me apart and I m sure most deaf people feel the same way. • 11. Junot Diaz Crash Short Story Junot Diaz Drown universe is one filled with insecurities that disturbs the closest relationship that the different characters find themselves in. One of the main issues explored, addressed in the stories Fiesta 1980 , Aurora , and Drown , is how do your own insecurities affect your attitude in your inter personal relationships? In these stories, the consequences of personal insecurities of the character s relationships include conjugal violence, denial of adultery and possible denial of sexual orientation. The first story that analyses the question of personal baggage affecting romantic relationship is Fiesta, 1980 . From what I conclude, Mami s biggest fear is to be alone, to not even have the possibility of getting attention from Papi. Consequently, this fear of being alone pushes her to accept unreasonable actions coming from her husband ranging from intimidating their children in pursuing a relationship with another woman behind her back. Diaz criticizes the dependency of immigrant wife s to their husband. Furthermore, in her eyes, her family is her sanctuary, henceforth she is willing to sacrifice her unhappiness to protect her refuge. Diaz writes, Picturing her alone wasn t easy. It seemed like Papi had always been with her, even when we were waiting in Santa Domingo for him to send for us. ( Fiesta, 1980 , 41). U.S housing policies carried out by government entities aim to facilitate growth in home ownership rates. In 2012, the federal government spent $270 billion to help Americans buy or rent homes (Fischer Sard 2013). However, it has been argued that government housing polices have had an insignificant impact on stimulating rates in home ownership. U.S Census Bureau recently reported that home ownership rate decline to a 20 year low in 2014 (Gupta 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our closing section, we explain how government housing policies may have contributed to the subprime mortgage crisis using the report How did we get into this finical mess by Lawrence H White (2012). Overall, our results suggest that U.S government policy has proved ineffective in stimulating home ownership rates in the long run. Through the reinforcement of federal policy, improvements can be made by the Federal government to encourage and support homeownership in the future. Recent Trends in Homeownership: One of the notable issues with the U.S housing market is the extent to which the Government failed to stimulate home ownership rates in the long run. Historical trends in the U.S home ownership rates show stagnant growth in home ownership after the early 1960 s. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review indicated that homeownership rates remained relatively constant from 1965 to 1995, despite a wide variety of government policies aimed at stimulating home ownership (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review 2006). Following 1995, the U.S home ownership rates indicated significant improvements. According to the U.S Statistical Abstract, aggregate home ownership during the period 1995 to 2005 indicated a record high for the U.S housing market (Chambers, Garriga, Schlagenhauf 2008). • 15. Why The Enzyme Is Understanding Their Properties Essay An important aspect of studying proteins is understanding their properties. The hypothesis of this experiment aimed to test whether the enzyme in question, N acetyl ОІ D Hexosaminidase, has an overall negative charge and will elute from the DEAE column in the first protein peak. The experiment was done in two parts. The absorbance values obtained from conducting the Lowry proteinassay were used to extrapolate the total amount of protein and calculate the concentration of the protein. The total amount of protein in the sample was 120Вµg and the concentration of the protein was 24.0 Вµg/Вµl, which was within the allowed range of error. An enzymeassay with paranitrophenol was conducted to determine the specific activity of the enzyme. The specific activity of the isozyme HEX B was calculated to be 0.00009 units/mg and the specific activity of the isozyme HEX A was 0.00004 units/mg. At the conclusion of this experiment, the data obtained from the ionexchange chromatography indicated that the unknown protein sample contained two isozymes of the enzyme N acetyl ОІ D Hexosaminidase. It was observed that isozyme HEX A had an overall negative charge and therefore eluted last from the DEAE column, whereas HEX B had an overall positive charge and did not bind to the column, hence eluted first. INTRODUCTION Ion exchange chromatography is a separation technique that separates molecules and ions based on their overall net charge (1,6). It can be used to separate amino acids, proteins, and ... • 20. Essay On Roe V. Wade Prior to the landmark case of Roe vs. Wade, abortion was legal in the United States under common law and with several stipulations. It was legal under the advice of medical personnel or in the attempt to save a mother s life. Though abortion were widely available it was considered a secretive and back alley procedure that threatened the life of the patient and the persons conducting the abortion. In 1965, illegal abortions made up one sixth of all pregnancyand childbirth related deaths. A survey conducted between 1965 and 1967 found that 8 in 10 low income women in New York City who had an abortion attempted a dangerous self induced procedure (planedparenthood.com). Jane Roe (not her real name) was an unmarried woman from Texas. At the time, Texas state law declared it a felony to conduct an abortion without the direct approval of a medical doctor. The District Attorney of Dallas at the time was a man named Henry Wade. Roe filed a suit against Mr. Wade and Texas State law that it was violating her Constitutional rights to choose. It was the Supreme Court decision to overrule not only Texas s law but all laws that prohibited the abortion of a fetus after the first trimester of a pregnancy. The IPA can be said to come close to carry out the ideal one to one relation between the sound and the written symbol and this does not apply only for one language but is taken as the ideal example for all the languages in the world. In fact to learn about the sound structure of all the languages a lot of research has to be done and this has to be done in different areas of study like, anatomy, physiology and acoustics of the vocal tract, to see what sounds are used in speech and therefore how they are defined by the international alphabet. Artisanal miners live in or around mines and generally do all of their work by hand, including the extraction of ore, to make a living. As these people live on the mine, if a company wants to buy the mine then they have to move the whole town elsewhere. In accordance with the fairness principle, which has always been involved with ethical thought (Paine et al. 2005), the mining company should provide housing for the artisanal miners. However, by doing this, the company is taking the miners away from their source of money and livelihood, which creates an imbalance. Sexton showcases the shared tiredness of life, by describing religion as an example of extreme emotional desperation. However, the poem dilutes the attention of many optimistic people who do not share its attire, instead an interpretation must be attained by those who can have a glimpse of their own eternal suffering. Although, the poetry has tragic finishing, it re opens for me personally, the divinity of melancholy. Everyone is vulnerable and susceptible to the usual heartbreak of life. Anne Sexton suicide was only one of many who desperately wanted to achieve an unrelenting wave of relief. For these existences, depression is like a war, you either win or die trying (Live or Die). This is how I want to die (). Historical Significance Of Japanese History History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of fishing and pottery making began; however, official Japanese history was first recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan, 2016). In the 1930 s and 40 s, Japan became more prominent in the global stage due to its participation in the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings (1945) during the World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since the 1950 s, Japan has been recognized as one of the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world.
