Health Issues Of Ill Health
It is important that patterns of ill health are monitored as the Department of Health need to know
where to target the funds, and need to know what areas they need to target. For example, if the
levels of obesity are rising then the Department of Health needs to target this by putting in weight
maintenance courses and referring patients to clinics or recommending operations if they are
beyond helping themselves. Patterns of ill healthhelp the Department of Health to see what areas
are increasing and the reasons for this. The research into why this happens helps them to know how
to tackle the problem.
Statistics
Statistics are used to monitor and recognise the patterns of ill health throughout the UK. Once
statistics are collected they are published on the National Statistics website. It is important to
monitor patterns of ill health and recognise where there is a dramatic increase or increase as
then the health and social funding can be spent in areas which need more help. For example, if
there is a rising problem with obesity, then funds can be spent to help those who are unable to
control their weight, more services will be able to be provided to those who are obese. Illnesses
such as obesity are on the rise but also illnesses associated with smoking, drinking and drugs are
also, funding is targeted at providing help for those who suffer from these illnesses.
Ill health is monitored through statistics, reports and patterns of ill health. It is observed through

Essay about Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration
Condition:
Macular Degeneration is a problem in the part of the eye that controls your sharpest central
vision. It is a group of diseases that result in a loss of detailed vision. The brain will not just leave
the spot empty, so it learns to fill it in with spotty macular cell damage. People most of the time
don t tell their doctors (opthalmologists) about it until it is well in advance.
There are two types of Macular Degeneration. Juvenile Macular Degeneration affects the central
vision in young children. This takes place in the macula, or the central region of the retina. The
retina is where we are able to read and to distinguish colors. The main symptoms ... Show more

Wet Macular Degeneration causes more severe loss of vision. Dry Macular Degeneration is the
age related type. There is no proven cure for dry Macular Degeneration.
Cause:
Basically what my research is stating is that there is a major genetic component that contributes to
this disease. There are three general types of hereditary Macular Degeneration. The first is called
early onset. This is when you get it when you are four years of age up to seven. In this type both
parents and their children can be affected. This means it is dominantly inherited. Most of the time
this is called Best Disease or Viteliform Macular Degeneration.
The second type is called middle onset. This is from five years of age up to twenty years of age.
This type is called Stargarett s disease. This is the Juvenile Macular Degeneration. This type is
recessively inherited. Meaning that this type can appear even if only a couple family members
have it.
The third type is called late onset. This is when you get it in your thirties or forties. This type may
have dominant or recessive inheritance.
Really the cause of Macular Degeneration is unknown. Recently researchers have discovered that a
group of genes called ABCR contribute to the disease. When someone has these genes the likeliness
of this person to form Macular Degeneration increases by 30 percent. In most situations Macular
Degeneration is

Bury The Dead Sparknotes
In 1936, the playwright Irwin Shaw synthesized the groans of a restless generation on the brink of
a subsequent, devastating war into an ominous work of art. Bury the Dead, his expressionistic anti
war agitprop, successfully sympathizes with the lost youth of that war generation, while also
pointing a dark finger at those who perpetrated the conflict. In addition, the play stands at the
pinnacle of early sardonic propaganda. In Shaw s time, the grim reality of a second world war
provided his inspiration. In today s time, another grim reality rises up to inspire a new string of
creative art. James Davison Hunter, a political sociologist, declared in his 1991 book, Culture
War: The Struggle to Define America, that America was embroiled in a war of opinion and social
differences that had irreversibly polarized the country (Hunter). This war could be as deadly to
American unity as the Second World War was to the indomitable spirit of the American doughboy
(Shaw). In light of this comparison, Bury the Dead holds a new, yet equally poignant meaning as a
collection of political pundits, burgeoning party control, and narrowly biased media draws deep
battle lines between this country s people. A transposition of Bury the Dead s pre war setting to a
modern, eerily comfortable juxtaposition of war and American culture would respect the original
themes while presenting a meaningful study on the current division in America. This approach
would also maintain the expressionistic value of

Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea
Love in Valentine and The Flea
Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets attitude
to love in Valentine and The Flea.
The poem The Flea is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne s
The Flea was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this
was called a coterie, which was a group of like minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each
other s amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was
extremely important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and
feelings about lust and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to.

He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just
trying to get what he wants.
In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers
and he is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying:
Mark but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is;
He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl
because virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does
not seem to give up on this point.
The poet uses cunning phrases such as:
Thou know st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead;
Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to
win his argument.
At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic:
Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pamper d swells in one blood made of two;
And this, alas! is more than we would do.
Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he
himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women.
Donne s use of physical language such as suck d , blood and
swells implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem.

Cyberbullying Is Not A Victimless Crime
Cyberbullying is Not a Victimless Crime About a month into summer vacation, I was on the phone
with another friend. Suddenly, notifications popped up on my phone, from a random person saying,
Eww, everyone in this picture is pretty except for you, kill yourself, and other horrible things. When
looking into solutions and consequences, I found nothing that could help me, and I felt alone. Teens
and even adults are becoming bullies behind computer screens with nobody and no rules to stop
them. However, when addressing cyberbullying it is important to understand what it is, how it

The laws pertaining to bullying are numerous, which is wonderful; however, the laws pertaining to
cyber bullying are not as numbered. In Justin Patchins research in 2016 he states that out of the fifty
states and Washington DC only sixteen states and district have off campus laws for cyberbullying
or online harassment and school sanction. There have been many federal cases that allows schools
to discipline students for off campus behavior that results in a substantial disruption of the learning
environment at school (Patchin). The courts have also left it to the state governments too meaning
that All states have various criminal laws that might apply to bullying behaviors, depending on the
nature of the act... All states also have criminal harassment and/or stalking statutes, and most
include explicit reference to electronic forms. In certain states, the bullying law specifies
provisions allowing the school to discipline students... In every state besides Montana, the
bullying law requires schools to have a formal policy to help to identify the behavior and discuss
the possible formal or informal disciplinary responses... Some laws require certain elements to be
included in the policy, and others require policy without specification (Patchin). The policies for
cyberbullying in many states are developing, but they are not universal, especially with the question

Criminalization and the Perceived Deviance of Latinos
There are different context in which labeling has specifically been used in the readings; however,
there is an overarching theme in that the labels serve to undermine and to subjugate Latinos, Asian
Americans and African Americans. The readings primarily focused on the criminalization and the
perceived deviance of Latinos and Latino youth.
In the book Punished by Victor Rios, he presents the argument that the consistent labeling by every
state run institution that cast young Latinos as criminals or cast at risk youth expected to commit
crimes is symptomatic of the social structures that creature the criminalization process of young
Latinos. Non state institutions as well as parents, who often seek help from them, are often advised

5) and has actually made concessions that play into the labeling of community members as good
immigrant and bad immigrant. The labels of good and bad immigrant only helps to further
normalize the criminalization and dehumanization of people based on their migrant status. The
logical consequence of adopting a good immigrant and a bad immigrant binary is agreement that the
undocumented are criminals and thus the natural and race neutral solution must be to punish and
deport the undocumented for their reputed transgression not to challenge the underlying structural
reason people migrate. (Gonzales, p. 151) This leads to the fragmentation of the migrant population
and often leads to the splitting of families. The short term victories in immigration reform with the
onset of bills such as DACA (Deferred Action for Children Act) playing on the depiction of parents
forcing illegal migration on their children and the institutional recognition of it not being the child s
fault that their parent were criminals continues to deny the larger societal structures that continue to
only perpetuate deferred consequence under the guise of progress.
In Hector Tobar s book The Barbarian Nurseries, the labeling that occurs is that of undocumented
immigrant as criminal. The book, while fiction, illustrates how the concept of the good immigrant
and the bad immigrant come into play in societal structures. Because of white privilege and

The Importance Of Ergogenic Aids
Ergogenic aids are widely used by athletes to help maximize training and improve overall
performance. Many companies that sell ergogenic aids often target athletes with claims of
improving strength, power, aerobic endurance, and reduced recovery time. However most
ergogenic aids fall short on delivering these claims. With so much misinformation, it is important
that athletes only take ergogenic supplements that have been supported by scientific literature that
has proved they improve exercise and performance. This report will profile the ergogenic aids of
fish oil (omega 3 fatty acids) and zinc to determine if they are effective at optimizing training and
performance.

The first being eiscsapentaenoic acids (EPAs), which are associated with a reduction in LDL
cholesterol, depression, and production in inflammation (Swanson, Block, Mousa, 2012). Another
type of fatty acid in Omega 3 is docosahexaenoic acids (DHAs), which are associated with
increased production of healthy HDL cholesterol, brain function, and a decrease in triglycerides
(Swanson, Block, Mousa, 2012). The third essential fatty acid from Omega 3 is alpha linolenic
acids (ALAs), however only 5 10 percent of ALAs can be converted into functional forms
(Swanson, Block, Mousa, 2012). Improving the ratio of Omega 6 to omega 3 ratios, thus
increasing the presences of DHA and EPA in the body, can help athletes improve performance by
increasing gains in lean muscle growth, limit rate of muscle loss, and reduce muscle soreness by
regulating inflammation production. Increased intake of Omega 3 fatty acids, when combined with
anaerobic type of training, can lead to muscle growth. A study by Smith et al., 2011, evaluated the
effects of 8 weeks of supplementation of omega 3 on health subjects between the ages of 25 45
years old. They found that muscle protein synthesis was increased, along with protein
concentrations within the muscle cell. The study concluded that omega 3 supplementation has a
positive influence on anabolic properties in healthy young and middle age

Should Junk Food Be Banned In Schools
Junk Food is not Always Junky Schools tend to have vending machines or a place that you can
buy a snack, sweet treat, or a delicious drink. Many people are concerned that the food that is
being sold at schools is not a good thing for the school or the students. However, they obviously do
not see the positive impacts the sale of junk foodhas on the school. Junk food should not be
banned in schools because schools can get more funding, students will still get access to junk
food, and the government should not control the diet of its citizens. Schools that sell snacks from
vending machines tend to make a lot of money from the vending. Students buying from vending
machines gave nearly в…“ of high schools and middles schools a profit of $1,000 $9,999 (Datar
and Nicosa 7). Schools that focus on the ban of junk food lack the funding for gym classes and
after school sports (Carson Dewitt and Jacobs 15). Schools when they have a healthier food options,
students tend to turn down the option. This is seen in article Some School Districts Quit Healthier
Lunch Program, the author, Carolyn Thompson states After just one year, some schools around the
country are dropping out of the healthier new federal lunch program, complaining that so many
students turned up their noses at meals packed with whole grains, fruits and vegetables that the
cafeterias were losing money. (1). This shows that the sell of food from vending machines at
schools help give the school more funding and it allows

Mrs. Salloway And Wide Sargasso Sea Short Story
Of all their seemingly infinite similarities, Clarissa Dalloway of Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
and Antoinette Cosway of Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea are most similar in their longing for
England. The actual country may be immaterial for what both women truly yearn for is an escape
from their current circumstances. Though several decades separate the lives of the two women, the
forces of oppression they face are much the same. From an outsider s perspective, both Clarissa and
Antoinette appear to enjoy privilege in excess; however, the stream of consciousness narrative of
both novels illuminates the ways in which both women find themselves struggling against
oppression imposed by those closest to them their husbands. Is it true...that England is like a dream?
Because one of my friends who married an Englishman wrote and told me so. She said this place
London is like a cold dark dream sometimes. I want to wake up, (Rhys, ) says Antoinette to her
English husband. For Antoinette, the fathomable world stretches does not stretch beyond the
Caribbean, for she was raised in Jamaica and, during the course of the novel, finds herself on
honeymoon in Dominica. The homeland of her husband is a distant myth, and the canvas onto
which she can paint her most vivid refuge. With a dead and forgotten father, a mother driven to cold
insanity, and the slaves turned servants as her only companions, haunting memories are the islands
prime commodity for Antoinette. Unlike Antoinette,

the assumption that gaming communities are divided due to Gamergate when it isn t. Today,
gamers are more united than ever before under one banner. Hatred and Huniepop were extremely
successful despite widespread criticism from anti gg. In contrast, anti gg games such as Sunset
flopped spectacularly despite all the supports and biased reviews.
Most importantly, Haines believed in the talking point shared by anti gg and SJWs in trying to
make the internet a more positive place for everybody because there s too much harassment and

Roundness In No Name Woman
Patriarchy as Represented by the Symbol of Roundness in Maxine Hong Kingston s No Name
Woman
In the short story No Name Woman, Kingston pushes the motif of roundness pass its traditional
connotations of family, union, and fulfilment, and through it explores Chinese feudal traditions as a
tool of suppression for women, and the erased narrative of her aunt s fatal transgressions.
Roundness features heavily in Chinese cultural iconography, in round mooncakes, round doorways,
round windows, and round rice bowls, of the Chinese (Kingston 13). Its associations with
perfection, harmony, and familial values serve as a reminder of the law: the family must whole,
faithfully keeping the descent line by having sons to feed the old and the dead, who in turn look
after the family (13). In other words, roundness is the status quo, which bears particularly harshly
on women in hard times, when to be woman, to have a daughter in starvation time was waste
enough (6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator s mother tells her story of her aunt as a cautionary tale, and in doing so draws a
connection between the two. The narrator s menstruation (Yue Jin in Chinese, as in the moon s
passing once again, the roundness motif) mirrors the her aunt s, her forerunner[ s] (8) protruding
melon of a stomach (3). Indeed, the narrator views her childhood, barred from simple joys of
flying high kites and carnival ride[s] and having to pa[y] in guilt (6) when she dares disobey, as
markedly similar to her aunt s life. Under the feudal system, women are relegated to the role of
extending the descent line into perpetuity. Roundness, as critic Sau Ling Cynthia Wong describes,
is mindlessly self perpetuating; if a symbol of perfection and self sufficiency, a circle also
represents confinement ( Necessity and Extravagance in Maxine Hong Kingston s The Woman

The Pursuit Of Grammatical Perfection Is Necessary For
The pursuit of grammatical perfection is necessary for all English majors. Frivolous mistakes, such
as incorrect verb tenses or sentence fragments, can easily make an English major appear
unprofessional and unskilled. It is therefore vital to learn and relearn the rules of the English
language to save oneself from embarrassment in a professional environment. A simple grammatical
mistake, for example, may turn into habit. I identify with this group that requires a refreshment of
the rules of grammar on occasion. Ultimately, throughout the duration of this eight week course, I

Week one contained the first topic I found difficulty with: linguists versus grammarians. Although I
quickly grasped the definition and purpose of grammarians, identifying the same for linguists was
difficult. Initially, I was slightly concerned about whether I would actually perform well in this
course, like I had with previous English courses. Even after posting in the discussion topics and
completing the assigned quizzes for the week, I still felt uncomfortable with the subject. Rather than
simply reading and rereading the topic notes, I took a different route and did further research.
Now, between the reading provided in the course content as well as additional articles, I can
explain the difference between a linguist and a grammarian with confidence. A few weeks later, I
found myself confused, again, as I took notes during week five. Independent, dependent,
restrictive, and nonrestrictive clauses were a breeze for me, but the range of other clauses
stumped me. Although I briefly learned about noun clauses in high school, I had completely
forgotten the instruction I once received. This, however, was quickly remedied by the previously

that I had not quite grasped the differences between transitive and intransitive verbs, as proven by
a score of fifty five percent on quiz 5.2. This difficulty would come back to haunt me later on in

India s The Partition Of India
The partition of India is one of the defining chapters in India s entire history. Although many
different reasons caused the partition, political factors were a key player in bringing about this
monumental change in India s borders. The pre existing communal differences between Hindus
and Muslims grew as a result of the fears of both groups losing power and giving up control to
the other. The partition which was supposed to grant freedom and independence for all Indians
resulted in creating a deeper hatred and animosity which would cost countless lives through
riots, rape, and mass murder for decades to come. Gandhi said in actual life, it is impossible to
separate us into two nations. We are not two nations. Every Moslem will have a Hindu name if he
goes back far enough in his family history. Every Moslem is merely a Hindu who has accepted
Islam. That does not create nationality. . . . We in Indiahave a common culture. In the North, Hindi
and Urdu are understood by both Hindus and Moslems. In Madras, Hindus and Moslems speak
Tamil, and in Bengal, they both speak Bengali and neither Hindi nor Urdu. When communal riots
take place, they are always provoked by incidents over cows and by religious processions. That
means that it is our superstitions that create the trouble and not our separate nationalities. He tried
to unite all Indians by showing them that having different religions does not separate Indians and
the only path to true independence would be to come

Honesty Responses
Jason, I enjoyed reading through your post and commend your honesty in your responses 1.I
agree that most clients have learned to protect themselves over the years to avoid pain. It is
much easier to avoid or place the blame for the problems in their lives on others. It is more
difficult for people to accept they have a part in their own pain and are to blame in some
circumstances. 2.It does appear that giving advice or telling a client how to respond keeps the
client engaging on a surface level instead of going deeper. I think it is human nature at times to
protect oneself and not want to bring up deeper things. If the client has been hurt by others, it will
be difficult to bring up those feelings. Likewise, the counselor may be nervous about opening up a

Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work
UROP Application Spring 2016
Christopher Jones
Mentor: Trafton Drew
Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work
Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment
and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual
similarity between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research
has been done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on
visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and
visual similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects
is important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a
real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form
of ERP (Event Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional
processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC
reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences
between visual and semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between
participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic
similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016),

Multilingualism is easily defined as an occurrence regarding an individual or group of speaker(s)
who use(s) two or more languages, a community of speakers where two or more language are used
as oral or written form. Multilingualism basically arises to communicate with speech communities.
There are two type of multilingualism is seen in our scenario: These two type of multilingualism
are: A) Additive multilingualism and B) Subtractive multilingualism.
Additive bi/multilingualism: Additive multilingualism enriches both the languages by their usage;
e.g. if a child cherishes/nourishes other languages side by side his mother tongue too, then it is
called additive bi/multilingualism.
Subtractive multilingualism: It refers to the gradual loss of the first language as the second language
dominates learner s functional space, in which case the speaker s loyalty shifted towards acquired
language; e.g. if a child acquired second language and this language dominates upon his/her mother
tongue and he/she priorities and shifts loyalty to acquired language, then it is called subtractive
multilingualism. (Bedadur Vijay Nivedita, 2015 pp

Effect Of Power Quality On A Smooth Industrial Process
Abstract As industries expand, utilities become more interconnected and the use of electricity
rises, power quality becomes essential to insure a smooth industrial process. The main problem
that severely affects the power s quality is the presence of the harmonics, which affects the
performance of the system. Some of the problem caused by the harmonics are metal parts
overheating, increasing noises in motors, decreasing the efficiency of the motors, etc. some
corrective methods can be used to reduce its effect. Contents Introduction3 What is Power

years there has been a great increase in the usage of the solid state electronics technology. This
new technology has provided us with the opportunity to have a product with a high quality with
an increased productivity due to its high efficiency. Today, we can produce products with high
quality at less cost than in the last years, but this new technology has given rise to a new
problem, which is the need for a clear electric power. This new technology has replaced many of

Essay on The Effectiveness of Native Title
The Effectiveness of Native Title
The debate about native title issues has tended to see issues from idealistic perspectives ignoring the
practical realities that native title poses to governments, industry and indigenous people. The
implementation of the Native Title is an appropriate and significant aspect of Australias common
and statute law, which effectively strives to develop a fair outcome for all Australian citizens. The
Native Title Act 1993, like the court Mabo decision in 1992, transforms the ways in, which
indigenous ownership of land may be formally recognised and incorporated within Australian legal
and property regimes. The process of implementation, however, raises a number of ... Show more

The interpretation of native title is often misunderstood, which results in the establishment many

people own the land they claim, it simply gives them the right to a say in the production,

Character Analysis Of Kenneth Grahame s The Wind In The...
The novel The Wind in the Willows portrayed numerous aspects of the author Kenneth Grahame s
life within its contents. Some of these aspects included social, psychological, and other
components of the author s life. Within his book parts of his life included were the people from his
life. These people were Kenneth Grahames father, his son Alastair, and his friend Sir Arthur Quiller
Couch. One of the people from his life who was transformed into a memorable character was his
son Alastair. The Wind in the Willows was a novel
based on bedtime stories about the character
named Toad, the stories of which were told to Alastair in effort to soothe him to sleep. When
Kenneth took the stories and adapted them into a novel, he used qualities from his son and used
them in the character Mole. Mole could easily be described as a mild mannered, as well as home
loving animal. He was the first character to be introduced in the story. Within the first chapter of
the novel Mole ventured outside of his underground home. Soon after coming outside Mole
realized the fast moving pace of life around the riverbank. Although cautious at first, Mole soon
adapted with help from his new found friends. Since birth Alastair had complications that made
life increasingly more difficult as he grew up. One of the largest complications that was faced by
Alastair was that he was blinded in one eye since birth. While also faced with other disabilities,
Alastair s problem was the blindness he retained. Similar to how Mole adapted to his surroundings
by the riverbank, Alastair adapted to life with disabilities while keeping a mild mannered attitude.
In addition to the adaptation, Alastair accepted help from many people like his father and mother
like Mole accepted help from his friends. Mole went through complications as well throughout the
chapters within the novel. One of these complications is how when Mole became impatient to meet
Badger and went off on his own to find him, leading to him becoming lost in the woods until his
friend Rat finds him. A complication similar to what Mole went through was how Alastair got
ejected from many different schools until finally a school called Christ Church accepted him. This
memorable character of Mole can

on February 15, 1946 and was the very first digital and electronically run computer. It was created
in the United States at the University of Pennsylvania and its original purpose was to calculate
artillery firing tables during World War 2. The ENIAC weighed 30 tons and filled up an entire
extremely large room with its many parts. Its complexity was prominent, containing approximately
18,000 vacuum tubes, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors, thousands of switches, and 1,500 relays.
It produced calculations that, if done by hand, would have taken much longer to achieve. For

The Prince And The Pauper By Mark Twain
In The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain, Twain suggest that even though Edward and Tom
switch lives they have the same knowledge. The two main characters are Edward Tudor, who is
part of the royal bloodline, and Tom Canty, who is a poor boy where domestic violence occurs in
his house on a daily basis. How these two completely opposite citizens of England meet is
strange. One day Tom, who is the poor boy, is walking near the castle. As he walks near the
castle Edward, who is the prince of England, is walking into the castle and a guard treats Tom
poorly. Edward saw how the guard treated Tom and decided to invite him into the castle. While
they were in the castle, they talked about their different lifestyle and how every day went for
them. As they were talking, Tom and Edward became envious of each other s lifestyle. Tom liked
the royal life that Edward had, and Edward liked Tom s life of roaming freely and playing in mud.

What Twain is suggesting is that people use their senses, particularly the visual sense when they
first meet someone. At first sight, people can t tell what type of personality someone has, one
can only see a person s appearance. If you smell good or you are dressed nicely, you are sought
as a person that has money and a certain social status. In this case, since Tom is the poor kid

person who begs on the streets. On the other hand the real king, Edward, is dressed like a poor
person and people believe that he really is a poor person and not the King of England. Furthermore,
another example is Miles Hendon. Although he has important people family members, people think
that he is poor since he wears only rags. Those three instances show what you can perceive the first

Comparing Cimabue Enthroned Madonna And Child
In the early 13th century two paintings came to shape the view of the Christian faith and put their
stamp on history by ushering in two different styles of the same idea. Cimabue Enthroned Madonna
and Giotto Enthroned Madonna became iconic images that have stood the test of time. At a glance
they appear to be same but with a closer look very distinct differences are apparent and
unmistakable.
The Cimabue Enthroned Madonna and child was painted around 1285 A.D. for the church of Santa
Trinita in Florence. The painting was massive measuring over twelve feet high and seven feet
wide. The painting is vivid and vibrant red, blue, and the gold color over powers the viewer and

The most obvious difference is the way the painter arranged the images in the space of the
painting. Cimabue is one dimensional with no real floor, as represented by the angels standing
taller than each other with no elevated surface to speak of; as where Giotto has a natural incline
to the painting and the angels are kneeling on a solid floor. Cimabue painting all angels were
mirror images of each other and none look at the baby Jesus, and in contrast Giotto all angels
have different faces, robes and hair styles and all eyes are affixed on the baby Jesus. Jesus is close
to the same with some stylistic differences in appearance. One Jesus is more of a mini man and
the other a baby. Giotto appeared to take a lot more effort and focus on making the angel and
Mary more real by giving Mary color stained lips and feminine features. Also showed her as more

Hd Tv Transition
In a world of Hulu, HD TV, and online streaming, the television industry has had no choice but to
embrace shifting consumer trends within the industry. Now that Internet streaming has allowed
consumers to watch whatever they want, whenever they want, it is becoming harder for cable
providers to keep up with consumer demand. Televisionbroadcasters must take advantage of the
bandwidth that they have available to them if they are to compete in the viewing market. With
streaming sites such as Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix gaining competitive advantage in the market,
television broadcasters can no longer sit back and continue to run as they always have. Accordingly,
these television stations have begun making much needed modifications. Since 2009, television
broadcasters have begun shutting down their analog systems and converting to strictly digital in
compliance with the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act. In February of 2009, the
FCC required all hybrid television producers, including companies such as Time Warner Cable and

Heat and Iron
A clothing iron, also called a flatiron or simply an iron, is a small appliance: a handheld piece of
equipment with a flat, roughly triangular surface that, when heated, is used to press clothes to
remove creases. It is named for the metal of which the device is commonly made, and the use of it
is generally called ironing. Ironing works by loosening the ties between the long chains of
molecules that exist in polymer fiber materials. With the heat and the weight of the ironing plate,
the fibers are stretched and the fabric maintains its new shape when cool. Some materials, such as
cotton, require the use of water to loosen the intermolecular bonds. Many materials developed in
the twentieth century are advertised as needing little or no... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to How Things Work in Your Home by Time Life Books, a heat control lever rotates a
cam that regulates the opening between the contacts located on the thermostat. A steam valve
attached to a vapor chamber located above the heating element opens up when the correct
temperature is reached and water enters the chamber and is converted into steam. From there, the
water is converted to steam, which exits from the soleplate at the bottom of the iron through the
ports. On the top of the iron, a pump draws water from the reservoir and sprays it through the
nozzle.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Most problems occur when an iron is either dropped, the cord is frayed or mineral deposits from
hard water clog the ports. Time Life recommends that irons be rinsed after use and a small brush
used to clean the ports. To clean the aluminum soleplate on the bottom of the iron, use a solution
of one part baking soda to two parts water on a cloth. Use a soapy scouring pad to clean steel
soleplates. Whichever type of cleaning method is used, dry the iron thoroughly. After heating it
up over the lowest setting, run the iron over a piece of wax paper and then a dry cloth, according
to Time Life. Irons with nonstick soleplates should be cleaned with a damp sponge or cloth to
avoid damage to the coating. Nicks can be buffed out with an emery board.
Cords should be replaced if the iron does not heat. This can be a do it yourself project, according to

The Cage Of Poverty In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
The Cage of Poverty In the short story Marigolds , the author, Eugenia Collier, uses several key
events throughout the short story to represent the unseen cage that the main character, Lizabeth,
is trapped in, and ultimately breaks. The story is set in a shanty town, likely taking place during
the Great Depression. Throughout the story, Lizabeth goes through a difficult stage in life, a
stage in which she is in conflict about whether she wants to be a carefree, innocent child, or an
educated, compassionate adult. The climax of the story, when Lizabeth tears and rips up Miss
Lottie s marigolds, is such an emotional moment for Lizabeth that she finally completes her
transition to adulthood, understands her endless cycle of poverty, and breaks the final bar of
the cage. The author uses a seemingly endless cycle of poverty to emphasize the cage in which
the characters are trapped. As Lizabeth muses over her childhood, she recalls the daily cycle of
how each morning our mother and father trudged wearily down the dirt road and around the
bend, she to her domestic job, he to his daily unsuccessful quest for work. (1). Every morning
began the same way, passed the same way, and ended the same way. Lizabeth feels trapped,
forced to go through the same series of events for what seems to be the rest of her life, with the
same people, in the same place. When the author pairs this with the dusty setting of the town and
the time placement of the Great Depression, it creates an effect of hopelessness for the first part
of the story. This is only furthered by Lizabeth continually returning to the idea that Poverty was
the cage in which we were all trapped. (1). Lizabeth opens the story by first giving a description
of her hometown as dusty , remembering the poverty and hopelessness. She then continues by
referring to the cage of not having enough money, and the cycle that it put them through, and ends
by alluding to her future being limited to her poverty. As the story progresses, so does Lizabeth.
Having entered a difficult stage of her identity, Lizabeth is unsure of whether to be an innocent,
carefree child, or to be a knowledgeable, aware adult. She begins to sense a change in the coming,
and a feeling of end

The Impact Of Broadening The Base Of The Gst But Keeping...
What would be the impact of broadening the base of the GST but keeping it at the current rate of
10%? The Howard Liberal Government introduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2000, as
part of the A New Tax System (ANTS). It currently exists as 10% consumption tax on most goods
and services sold or consumed in Australia with notable exceptions on fresh foods, education and
health. In a radio interview, former PM John Howard explained his preference for minimal

Broadening the base of GST will also be compared to raising the rate of GST.
Current Policy Analysis and Evaluation:
When evaluating our current system, the difficulty to isolate effects of the GST from the other
changes in tax in ANTS shouldn t be underestimated (Valadkhani 2005). Former treasurer, Peter
Costello (2010), points out how the introduction of the GST was used to replace existing wholesale
sales taxes, and coincided with the removal of other inefficient state taxes and duties, and a personal
income tax rate cut. To address concerns for lower income earners, the government simplified the
family benefits program and provided private health insurance premium rebates (Costello 2010).
Although perceived as a regressive tax, the combination of the GST (and compensation for
equity) and progressive income tax, resulted in a relatively balanced redistribution system for
the period between 1994 2002 (Warren, Harding Lloyd 2005 cited in Nguyen 2016, p. 108).
GST tends to considered by economists as one of the more efficient revenue raising tax (Nguyen
2016). Internationally and domestically, there is a push by economists to shift the tax mix
towards consumption taxes away from the more distortive income and company tax (CPA
Australia 2015; OECD 2014). Currently Australia s GST base of 47% of Goods and Services is
less than the OECD average of 55% (Nguyen 2016). These

William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
In Romeo and Juliet, love is depicted in several ways. Both Luhrman and Shakespeare represent
love in different ways in different contexts to both the Elizabethan era and the contemporary
audience. Both the original and later manifestations of the text are valued because they both
communicate to the audience on the values of love and society by employing a variety of devices.
The central subject dealt within Romeo and Juliet is the subject of love. William Shakespeare and
Baz Luhrman thus represent love to their audience beyond the distinct ideas of love as simple
sentiments. In the play, there are 2 basic levels the real world of Verona and the private, intimate
sphere of Romeo and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also reveals to the audience an empathy that the two star crossed lovers were made fore each
other. Luhrman achieves this via the use of smitten, longing looks, the close up shots, and the
music of Des ree (Kissing You).
Through Scene 5, Romeo continues to show himself as a hopeless romantic besotted with
beautiful girls. His language indicates that he thinks of love and commitment in terms of sight:
Did my heart love till now? Forswear it sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this night , as he
says at his first glimpse of Juliet. This statement recalls Scene 2, in which he spoke of the devout
religion of mine eye and said that if his eyes were heretical enough o consider another girl more
beautiful than his Rosaline, his tears would turn to fire and burn at stake. However, as soon as he
lays his eyes on Juliet, his devotion to the apparently less beautiful Rosaline disappears and a new
religion is found for Romeo.
Shakespeare thus portrays Romeo and his love as an infatuation. This infatuation is evident in
how instantaneously Romeo falls out of love with Rosaline and into love with Juliet. At one stage,
Rosaline was the precious treasure of his eyesight , yet Romeo s embodiment of perfection was, a
few scenes later, his notion of defectiveness. This therefore reveals to the audience the
instantaneous and reckless path of the two lovers, as well as the fickleness of adolescent love ,
diminishing at the sight of

Developing an HR department that was a strategic business unit, allowing it to strategically design a
measurable compensation and benefits program. The need for a multi channel marketing approach
was another subject identified during the strategic review, which allows customers multiple ways to
purchase products. Another internal strength is the portion of the compensation plan that
encourages employees to take advantage of the companies products through employee discounts
and equipment rental programs.
Weaknesses
Bean operated on premise that profits are an outcome of strong customer service, and was a
byproduct of such. The lack of corporate focus on targeting specific strategies to increase profits
was a glaring weakness. Their business model had never been challenged externally, and the
company was still operating with a focus on catalog sales instead of refocusing efforts on the
growing wave of retail and ecommerce. The company recognized they were in desperate need of
employees who could process data and bring the web presence up to par with other competitors in
the outdoor lifestyle industry.
How the Company Responded From a total rewards perspective, the reorganization allowed the
company to develop ways to improve the satisfaction of its employees. Linking pay to performance
and other compensation incentives was an asset when recruiting talented technology professionals

Magna Carta Historical Documents
DSPA There was many documents that influenced the writing of the constitution. Some people may
say we stole parts from them, but I believe we borrowed them and made them better. We made them
better because they were now part of the United States of America. From the Magna Carta to the
Articles of Confederation, writings all around the world influenced the US constitution. Even
though we copyrighted some of the constitution it is still one of the most ingenious writings in the
world. The first document to influence the constitution was the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta
declared everyone was subject to law, even the king. It also said that no one could be put through
cruel or unusual punishment. Another thing it said was the everyone had the right to a fair trial
and justice. Magna Carta means great charter in latin. It also included the right to speedy trial. The
Magna Carta influenced many parts of the constitution. The first thing it influenced was that the
king and government were bound to the same laws as the citizens. This means that the king and the
government weren t above the law, just like the president and US government. Another thing that is
similar is the right to a fair and speedy trial just like in the bill of rights. The last area that is similar
is that no one could be put through cruel and unusual punishment. That is just one of many
historical documents that influenced the constitution.
The second historical document was the Mayflower Compact. The

find themselves unable to participate, affecting not only their mental health, but physical state.
Lately the uprising epidemic of obesity has informed people to understand that the widespread

being unable to pay for sports with factual information on how limitations, such as fees, make an

Why Is Marilyn Monroe Dead Wrong
One of the most puzzling deaths of all time has to go to one of the top stories of the 1950 s.
Marilyn Monroe was the most celebrated woman in the world, a platinum blonde bombshell who
fought her way up from a troubled childhood to conquer Hollywood (Baker et al. 1). As years
pass, people still ask themselves what really happened to this platinum blonde shell, was it suicide
or murder? Such a question has been highly debated among both the public and modern
investigators of the 21st century. Ms. Monroe s dead body was found in her bedroom on the
morning of August 5th, 1962 where no one wanted to believe that she had taken her life. Although,
people were quick to assume that the situation had been suicide, before thinking that it could ve...

else. When listening to others there s many beliefs that Marilyn killed herself. When you ask
someone what happened to Marilyn Monroe they quickly respond with overdose . But
obviously all those people haven t looked into Monroe s death more to actually know. If it was
suicide then why when sergeant Jack Clemmons showed up to the scene was everyone acting in
a very planned suspicious manner. Monroe died between 9:30 to 11:30 PM but the police weren

and when Clemmons asked why they had taken so long to reach them their answers were very
inaccurate. As well as when he asked the housekeeper about that night and her story was almost
so believable that there was no way that it wasn t planned. The housekeeper, Eunice Murray, was
washing clothes at almost 5 am there d be a lot to do and that a lot of people would be coming
over (Belzer 32) There was no reason that the housekeeper should have been doing laundry at that
time especially since her employer lay dead on her bed in the other room. Nothing seemed to
connect, and the nervous attitudes of the people in the household gave a lot to think about. Not
only was that suspicious but the way the body was found brings us to another case. Marilyn s body

Similarities And Differences Between Lee Lean Yew And Sukarno
IS Essay
Introduction
This essay seeks to compare and contrast the political and economic leadership styles adopted by
Lee Kuan Yew and Sukarno. PM Lee Kuan Yew was the first prime minister of Singapore and
had turned Singapore from a poor fishing village into a bustling first world country, with world
renowned airports and hotels, all through his clear vision as well as his economic policies during
his governance from 1959 1990. On the other hand, Sukarno was the first president of Indonesia
from the time period of 1945 1967. Sukarno was a prominent leader of Indonesia, who led
Indonesia to its independence and created stability within his home country, ending various
rebellions which threatened her. This essay will thus primarily focus on ... Show more content on

The nationalists waged an armed feud against the Netherlands with Japanese weapons in hand, who
had powerful financial reasons for recovering the East Indies and believed that most Indonesians
wanted them to return. Dutch forces made generous progress in Java and Sumatra, but there was
fierce judgement from the United Nations, and the United States encouraged a unanimous
resolution for the situation in Indonesia. A council of 120 delegates assembled at The Hague in
August 1949, under the chairmanship of the prime minister of the Netherlands, Willem Drees. The
nationalist delegates were skillfully led by Hatta. On November 2nd, after nearly a 2 and a half
months of debating, the council reached a в…” majority on a resolution which transferred Dutch
supremacy to Indonesia, with Queen Juliana of the Netherlands as titular head of a new
Netherlands Indonesian Union. Sukarno was recognized as Indonesian president and Hatta as
prime minister. The sensitive question of Dutch New Guinea (Irian Jaya) was put aside for later.
The Dutch unleashed thousands of political prisoners before independence was formally declared

She gave a very fun and comedic twist to the role. My eyes were drawn to her even in scenes
where her character was the primary focus. She added plenty of subtle touches to convey how
scummy her character truly was. If you paid close attention, she could be seen spitting in her
customers food and stealing. It was a lot of fun to watch her in the background and look for
these easter eggs . She fully embodied the character and even sang in a nasally voice to give the
extra touch of cringe to her role. I would imagine a particular challenge for her was portraying a
character so much older than she is. This production was done entirely by students in elementary,
middle, and high school. As a high schooler, it must have been very difficult for her to portray a
middle aged woman; however, she pulled it off phenomenally by conveying such a raunchy,
bitter, trashy aura in her character. A particular scene where Nelson s performance stood out to me
was at the wedding of Cosette and Marius. Madame Thenardier and her husband put on ridiculous
disguises in an attempt to con Marius and steal from him. After being called out, the two start to
leave and a dish that Madame Thenardier stole falls from her purse. Nelson s facial expression and

The Most Stressful Time Of A Graduate Program
Some individuals shine under stress while other individual fail at it. The most stressful time I
underwent during my undergrad was when I found out that the master s program that I wanted to
attend was asking for a higher grade point average than what I had. The business program that I
wanted to attend was asking for a minimum of 3.20 gradepoint average in order to be able to get
into the program. During the first two years of my education I did not take school seriously and
because of that it effected my overcall grade point average however, I found out that the master
program is only looking at the last ninety units of your undergrad. I felt relieved and quickly
started counting up my overall grade point average not taking the first two years of school. I had
a 2.70 grade point average counting only the last sixty units of my undergrad work. I was really
upset because I had eight classes left (Thirty two units) to take before graduation. I would have
had to get really high grades in the winter quarter in order to get accepted into the program. The
stress was overwhelming because I either got good grades or I would not continue my education.
I worked forty plus hours a week and attend school fulltime getting nearly perfect grades seemed
an impossible task to me. The stress of obtaining good grades during the upcoming quarter
motivated me to reach new heights that I believed I could have never reach because I did not have
enough time to focus on school. In the beginning

Analyzing A Blood Sample Containing Drugs
When analyzing a blood sample containing drugs, often a normal scale or balance cannot detect
the mass of the drugs in the sample due to the small size of the sample. In that case, in order to
properly determine the mass of a drug in a sample, it becomes necessary to utilize a mass
spectrometer. A mass spectrometer can measure the mass of atomic sized particles with great
accuracy (Jeol, 2006). In forensic toxicology, mass spectrometrycan provide scientists with the
identity and quantity of a drug in a sample (Christopher Tilson, personal communication, March
19, 21016). Mass spectrometry serves as an exceptionally useful method in the field of forensic
drug analysis, as its ability to determine the mass of exceedingly small particles assists in the
classification and quantification of drugs in a sample.
Before analyzation of a blood sample using mass spectrometry can occur, separation of the drugs
from the blood must take place. If sent directly into the mass spectrometer, the blood would create
too many peaks in the results. Not to mention, the blood would make the mass spectrometer too
dirty to provide accurate results (Christopher Tilson, personal communications, March 19, 2016).
Due to these facts, forensic scientists always spate the drugs from the blood sample using one of
two methods. The first method, called liquid extraction, works by adding liquids of different
polarities to the blood sample. By choosing the right solvents, the drugs will separate from the
blood.

Eminent Domain Of Economic Development
According to Bowman and Kearney, economic development is the process by which a community,
state, or nation increases its level of per capita income, high quality jobs, and capital investment
(Bowman Kearney, 2014, p. 370). Throughout our readings, it is presented that economic
development exists because of the gradual decline of our metropolitans. More recently, it s been
explained that economic developmenthas become a local issue that localities are attempting to
resolve due to the stale mate federal government and partly the Great Recession, and doing this with
a deteriorating taxbase in the form of population and jobs which increase the deteriorating

When asked whether the tax breaks and subsidies actually created jobs, elected officials and
economic development experts couldn t say for sure (Fulton, 2014, p. 171). Stadiums fall in
this realm as well. Owners of the big four (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) have secured nearly $20
billion in taxpayer subsidies for new stadiums (DeMause, 2014, p. 73). In 1984, a study by Robert
Baade on 30 cities with recent stadiums constructed found that 27 had no measurable economic
impact, and in 3 cases, economic activity actually decreased. These findings have been repeated
since then and tell the same story. A study on mega events like Super Bowls, South FL economist,
Phil Porter found no measurable impact on spending which he attributed to the crowding out effect
of non football tourists steering clear of town on game weeks (DeMause, 2014, p.

Iago as the Representation of Evil in Shakespeare s Othello
Iago as the Representation of Evil in Othello
In Shakespeare s, Othello, the reader is presented the classic battle between the deceitful forces of
evil and the innocence of good. It is these forces of evil that ultimately lead to the breakdown of
Othello, a noble Venetian moor, well known by the people of Venice as an honorable soldier and a
worthy leader. Othello s breakdown results in the murder of his wife Desdemona. Desdemona is
representative of the good in nature. Good can be defined as forgiving, honest, innocent and
unsuspecting. The evil contained within Othello is by no means magical or mythical yet is
represented by the character Iago. Iago is cunning, untrustworthy, selfish, and plotting. He uses
these traits to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is this jealousy and the ignorance of Othello that lead to the downfall of Desdemona, the one truly
good natured character in the play.
As the play opens we are immediately introduced to the hostility of Iago against Othello. Iago has
been appointed the position of servant to Othello instead of the more prestigious position of
lieutenant. Michael Cassio has been appointed this position. Iago feels betrayed because he
considers him self more qualified than Cassio to serve as lieutenant. Iago then foreshadows his
plans for Othello to Roderigo, O, sir, content you. / I follow him to serve my turn upon him (Act I,
Scene I) . Iago already realizes that Othello thinks about him as an honest man. Roderigo is used
by Iago as an apprentice and someone to do his dirty work. Roderigo is naively unsuspecting. As
the play shifts from Venice to Cyprus there is an interesting contrast. Venice, a respectful and
honorable town is overshadowed by the war torn villages of Cyprus. It could be said that Venice
represents good or specifically Desdemona and that Cyprus represents evil in Iago. Desdemona has
been taken from her peacefulness and brought onto the grounds of evil. Iago commits his largest
acts of deceit in Cyprus, fittingly considering the atmosphere. Ironically, the Venetians feel the
Turks are their only enemy while in fact Iago is in hindsight the one man who destroys their stable
state. Act II Scene III shows

  • 2. Health Issues Of Ill Health It is important that patterns of ill health are monitored as the Department of Health need to know where to target the funds, and need to know what areas they need to target. For example, if the levels of obesity are rising then the Department of Health needs to target this by putting in weight maintenance courses and referring patients to clinics or recommending operations if they are beyond helping themselves. Patterns of ill healthhelp the Department of Health to see what areas are increasing and the reasons for this. The research into why this happens helps them to know how to tackle the problem. Statistics Statistics are used to monitor and recognise the patterns of ill health throughout the UK. Once statistics are collected they are published on the National Statistics website. It is important to monitor patterns of ill health and recognise where there is a dramatic increase or increase as then the health and social funding can be spent in areas which need more help. For example, if there is a rising problem with obesity, then funds can be spent to help those who are unable to control their weight, more services will be able to be provided to those who are obese. Illnesses such as obesity are on the rise but also illnesses associated with smoking, drinking and drugs are also, funding is targeted at providing help for those who suffer from these illnesses. Ill health is monitored through statistics, reports and patterns of ill health. It is observed through the use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Macular Degeneration Macular Degeneration Condition: Macular Degeneration is a problem in the part of the eye that controls your sharpest central vision. It is a group of diseases that result in a loss of detailed vision. The brain will not just leave the spot empty, so it learns to fill it in with spotty macular cell damage. People most of the time don t tell their doctors (opthalmologists) about it until it is well in advance. There are two types of Macular Degeneration. Juvenile Macular Degeneration affects the central vision in young children. This takes place in the macula, or the central region of the retina. The retina is where we are able to read and to distinguish colors. The main symptoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wet Macular Degeneration causes more severe loss of vision. Dry Macular Degeneration is the age related type. There is no proven cure for dry Macular Degeneration. Cause: Basically what my research is stating is that there is a major genetic component that contributes to this disease. There are three general types of hereditary Macular Degeneration. The first is called early onset. This is when you get it when you are four years of age up to seven. In this type both parents and their children can be affected. This means it is dominantly inherited. Most of the time this is called Best Disease or Viteliform Macular Degeneration. The second type is called middle onset. This is from five years of age up to twenty years of age. This type is called Stargarett s disease. This is the Juvenile Macular Degeneration. This type is recessively inherited. Meaning that this type can appear even if only a couple family members have it. The third type is called late onset. This is when you get it in your thirties or forties. This type may have dominant or recessive inheritance. Really the cause of Macular Degeneration is unknown. Recently researchers have discovered that a group of genes called ABCR contribute to the disease. When someone has these genes the likeliness of this person to form Macular Degeneration increases by 30 percent. In most situations Macular Degeneration is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bury The Dead Sparknotes In 1936, the playwright Irwin Shaw synthesized the groans of a restless generation on the brink of a subsequent, devastating war into an ominous work of art. Bury the Dead, his expressionistic anti war agitprop, successfully sympathizes with the lost youth of that war generation, while also pointing a dark finger at those who perpetrated the conflict. In addition, the play stands at the pinnacle of early sardonic propaganda. In Shaw s time, the grim reality of a second world war provided his inspiration. In today s time, another grim reality rises up to inspire a new string of creative art. James Davison Hunter, a political sociologist, declared in his 1991 book, Culture War: The Struggle to Define America, that America was embroiled in a war of opinion and social differences that had irreversibly polarized the country (Hunter). This war could be as deadly to American unity as the Second World War was to the indomitable spirit of the American doughboy (Shaw). In light of this comparison, Bury the Dead holds a new, yet equally poignant meaning as a collection of political pundits, burgeoning party control, and narrowly biased media draws deep battle lines between this country s people. A transposition of Bury the Dead s pre war setting to a modern, eerily comfortable juxtaposition of war and American culture would respect the original themes while presenting a meaningful study on the current division in America. This approach would also maintain the expressionistic value of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea Love in Valentine and The Flea Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets attitude to love in Valentine and The Flea. The poem The Flea is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne s The Flea was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this was called a coterie, which was a group of like minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each other s amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was extremely important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and feelings about lust and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just trying to get what he wants. In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers and he is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying: Mark but this flea, and mark in this, How little that which thou deniest me is; He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl because virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does not seem to give up on this point. The poet uses cunning phrases such as: Thou know st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead; Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to win his argument. At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic: Yet this enjoys before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two;
  • 6. And this, alas! is more than we would do. Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women. Donne s use of physical language such as suck d , blood and swells implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem. At the start of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The readings primarily focused on the criminalization and the perceived deviance of Latinos and Latino youth. In the book Punished by Victor Rios, he presents the argument that the consistent labeling by every state run institution that cast young Latinos as criminals or cast at risk youth expected to commit crimes is symptomatic of the social structures that creature the criminalization process of young Latinos. The labels of good and bad immigrant only helps to further normalize the criminalization and dehumanization of people based on their migrant status. The logical consequence of adopting a good immigrant and a bad immigrant binary is agreement that the undocumented are criminals and thus the natural and race neutral solution must be to punish and deport the undocumented for their reputed transgression not to challenge the underlying structural reason people migrate. (Gonzales, p. 151) This leads to the fragmentation of the migrant population and often leads to the splitting of families. The short term victories in immigration reform with the onset of bills such as DACA (Deferred Action for Children Act) playing on the depiction of parents forcing illegal migration on their children and the institutional recognition of it not being the child s fault that their parent were criminals continues to deny the larger societal structures that continue to only perpetuate deferred consequence under the guise of progress. In Hector Tobar s book The Barbarian Nurseries, the labeling that occurs is that of undocumented immigrant as criminal. With so much misinformation, it is important that athletes only take ergogenic supplements that have been supported by scientific literature that has proved they improve exercise and performance. Another type of fatty acid in Omega 3 is docosahexaenoic acids (DHAs), which are associated with increased production of healthy HDL cholesterol, brain function, and a decrease in triglycerides (Swanson, Block, Mousa, 2012). The third essential fatty acid from Omega 3 is alpha linolenic acids (ALAs), however only 5 10 percent of ALAs can be converted into functional forms (Swanson, Block, Mousa, 2012). Improving the ratio of Omega 6 to omega 3 ratios, thus increasing the presences of DHA and EPA in the body, can help athletes improve performance by increasing gains in lean muscle growth, limit rate of muscle loss, and reduce muscle soreness by regulating inflammation production. Increased intake of Omega 3 fatty acids, when combined with anaerobic type of training, can lead to muscle growth. A study by Smith et al., 2011, evaluated the effects of 8 weeks of supplementation of omega 3 on health subjects between the ages of 25 45 years old. • 10. Should Junk Food Be Banned In Schools Junk Food is not Always Junky Schools tend to have vending machines or a place that you can buy a snack, sweet treat, or a delicious drink. Many people are concerned that the food that is being sold at schools is not a good thing for the school or the students. However, they obviously do not see the positive impacts the sale of junk foodhas on the school. Junk food should not be banned in schools because schools can get more funding, students will still get access to junk food, and the government should not control the diet of its citizens. Schools that sell snacks from vending machines tend to make a lot of money from the vending. Students buying from vending machines gave nearly в…“ of high schools and middles schools a profit of $1,000 $9,999 (Datar and Nicosa 7). Schools that focus on the ban of junk food lack the funding for gym classes and after school sports (Carson Dewitt and Jacobs 15). Schools when they have a healthier food options, students tend to turn down the option. Mrs. Salloway And Wide Sargasso Sea Short Story Of all their seemingly infinite similarities, Clarissa Dalloway of Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Antoinette Cosway of Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea are most similar in their longing for England. The actual country may be immaterial for what both women truly yearn for is an escape from their current circumstances. Though several decades separate the lives of the two women, the forces of oppression they face are much the same. From an outsider s perspective, both Clarissa and Antoinette appear to enjoy privilege in excess; however, the stream of consciousness narrative of both novels illuminates the ways in which both women find themselves struggling against oppression imposed by those closest to them their husbands. Roundness features heavily in Chinese cultural iconography, in round mooncakes, round doorways, round windows, and round rice bowls, of the Chinese (Kingston 13). Its associations with perfection, harmony, and familial values serve as a reminder of the law: the family must whole, faithfully keeping the descent line by having sons to feed the old and the dead, who in turn look after the family (13). Frivolous mistakes, such as incorrect verb tenses or sentence fragments, can easily make an English major appear unprofessional and unskilled. It is therefore vital to learn and relearn the rules of the English language to save oneself from embarrassment in a professional environment. A simple grammatical mistake, for example, may turn into habit. I identify with this group that requires a refreshment of the rules of grammar on occasion. Ultimately, throughout the duration of this eight week course, I have become more conscious of my writing and the errors I had been making and my handle of grammatical elements in the English language has decidedly improved.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Week one contained the first topic I found difficulty with: linguists versus grammarians. Although I quickly grasped the definition and purpose of grammarians, identifying the same for linguists was difficult. Initially, I was slightly concerned about whether I would actually perform well in this course, like I had with previous English courses. Even after posting in the discussion topics and completing the assigned quizzes for the week, I still felt uncomfortable with the subject. Rather than simply reading and rereading the topic notes, I took a different route and did further research. Now, between the reading provided in the course content as well as additional articles, I can explain the difference between a linguist and a grammarian with confidence. A few weeks later, I found myself confused, again, as I took notes during week five. Independent, dependent, restrictive, and nonrestrictive clauses were a breeze for me, but the range of other clauses stumped me. Although I briefly learned about noun clauses in high school, I had completely forgotten the instruction I once received. This, however, was quickly remedied by the previously mentioned method further research. • 20. India s The Partition Of India The partition of India is one of the defining chapters in India s entire history. Although many different reasons caused the partition, political factors were a key player in bringing about this monumental change in India s borders. The pre existing communal differences between Hindus and Muslims grew as a result of the fears of both groups losing power and giving up control to the other. The partition which was supposed to grant freedom and independence for all Indians resulted in creating a deeper hatred and animosity which would cost countless lives through riots, rape, and mass murder for decades to come. Gandhi said in actual life, it is impossible to separate us into two nations. We are not two nations. Every Moslem will have a Hindu name if he goes back far enough in his family history. Every Moslem is merely a Hindu who has accepted Islam. That does not create nationality. . . . We in Indiahave a common culture. In the North, Hindi and Urdu are understood by both Hindus and Moslems. In Madras, Hindus and Moslems speak Tamil, and in Bengal, they both speak Bengali and neither Hindi nor Urdu. When communal riots take place, they are always provoked by incidents over cows and by religious processions. That means that it is our superstitions that create the trouble and not our separate nationalities. He tried to unite all Indians by showing them that having different religions does not separate Indians and the only path to true independence would be to come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Honesty Responses Jason, I enjoyed reading through your post and commend your honesty in your responses 1.I agree that most clients have learned to protect themselves over the years to avoid pain. It is much easier to avoid or place the blame for the problems in their lives on others. It is more difficult for people to accept they have a part in their own pain and are to blame in some circumstances. 2.It does appear that giving advice or telling a client how to respond keeps the client engaging on a surface level instead of going deeper. Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work UROP Application Spring 2016 Christopher Jones Mentor: Trafton Drew Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual similarity between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research has been done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and visual similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects is important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form of ERP (Event Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences between visual and semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These people were Kenneth Grahames father, his son Alastair, and his friend Sir Arthur Quiller Couch. One of the people from his life who was transformed into a memorable character was his son Alastair. The Wind in the Willows was a novel based on bedtime stories about the character named Toad, the stories of which were told to Alastair in effort to soothe him to sleep. When Kenneth took the stories and adapted them into a novel, he used qualities from his son and used them in the character Mole. Mole could easily be described as a mild mannered, as well as home loving animal. He was the first character to be introduced in the story. Within the first chapter of the novel Mole ventured outside of his underground home. Soon after coming outside Mole realized the fast moving pace of life around the riverbank. Although cautious at first, Mole soon adapted with help from his new found friends. Since birth Alastair had complications that made life increasingly more difficult as he grew up. One of the largest complications that was faced by Alastair was that he was blinded in one eye since birth. While also faced with other disabilities, Alastair s problem was the blindness he retained. Similar to how Mole adapted to his surroundings by the riverbank, Alastair adapted to life with disabilities while keeping a mild mannered attitude. In addition to the adaptation, Alastair accepted help from many people like his father and mother like Mole accepted help from his friends. Mole went through complications as well throughout the chapters within the novel. One of these complications is how when Mole became impatient to meet Badger and went off on his own to find him, leading to him becoming lost in the woods until his friend Rat finds him. • 37. The Cage Of Poverty In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier The Cage of Poverty In the short story Marigolds , the author, Eugenia Collier, uses several key events throughout the short story to represent the unseen cage that the main character, Lizabeth, is trapped in, and ultimately breaks. The story is set in a shanty town, likely taking place during the Great Depression. Throughout the story, Lizabeth goes through a difficult stage in life, a stage in which she is in conflict about whether she wants to be a carefree, innocent child, or an educated, compassionate adult. The climax of the story, when Lizabeth tears and rips up Miss Lottie s marigolds, is such an emotional moment for Lizabeth that she finally completes her transition to adulthood, understands her endless cycle of poverty, and breaks the final bar of the cage. The author uses a seemingly endless cycle of poverty to emphasize the cage in which the characters are trapped. As Lizabeth muses over her childhood, she recalls the daily cycle of how each morning our mother and father trudged wearily down the dirt road and around the bend, she to her domestic job, he to his daily unsuccessful quest for work. (1). Every morning began the same way, passed the same way, and ended the same way. Lizabeth feels trapped, forced to go through the same series of events for what seems to be the rest of her life, with the same people, in the same place. When the author pairs this with the dusty setting of the town and the time placement of the Great Depression, it creates an effect of hopelessness for the first part of the story. This is only furthered by Lizabeth continually returning to the idea that Poverty was the cage in which we were all trapped. (1). Lizabeth opens the story by first giving a description of her hometown as dusty , remembering the poverty and hopelessness. She then continues by referring to the cage of not having enough money, and the cycle that it put them through, and ends by alluding to her future being limited to her poverty. As the story progresses, so does Lizabeth. Having entered a difficult stage of her identity, Lizabeth is unsure of whether to be an innocent, carefree child, or to be a knowledgeable, aware adult. • 40. The Impact Of Broadening The Base Of The Gst But Keeping... What would be the impact of broadening the base of the GST but keeping it at the current rate of 10%? The Howard Liberal Government introduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2000, as part of the A New Tax System (ANTS). It currently exists as 10% consumption tax on most goods and services sold or consumed in Australia with notable exceptions on fresh foods, education and health. In a radio interview, former PM John Howard explained his preference for minimal exemption and the necessity to pass the bill through senate required the government to negotiate with the Australian Democrats (Reynold 2000). In its current form, the GST has bipartisan support due to its relative success. Recently the need for more revenue for States to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Broadening the base of GST will also be compared to raising the rate of GST. Current Policy Analysis and Evaluation: When evaluating our current system, the difficulty to isolate effects of the GST from the other changes in tax in ANTS shouldn t be underestimated (Valadkhani 2005). Former treasurer, Peter Costello (2010), points out how the introduction of the GST was used to replace existing wholesale sales taxes, and coincided with the removal of other inefficient state taxes and duties, and a personal income tax rate cut. To address concerns for lower income earners, the government simplified the family benefits program and provided private health insurance premium rebates (Costello 2010). Although perceived as a regressive tax, the combination of the GST (and compensation for equity) and progressive income tax, resulted in a relatively balanced redistribution system for the period between 1994 2002 (Warren, Harding Lloyd 2005 cited in Nguyen 2016, p. 108). GST tends to considered by economists as one of the more efficient revenue raising tax (Nguyen 2016). Internationally and domestically, there is a push by economists to shift the tax mix towards consumption taxes away from the more distortive income and company tax (CPA Australia 2015; OECD 2014). Currently Australia s GST base of 47% of Goods and Services is less than the OECD average of 55% (Nguyen 2016). These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet In Romeo and Juliet, love is depicted in several ways. Both Luhrman and Shakespeare represent love in different ways in different contexts to both the Elizabethan era and the contemporary audience. Both the original and later manifestations of the text are valued because they both communicate to the audience on the values of love and society by employing a variety of devices. The central subject dealt within Romeo and Juliet is the subject of love. William Shakespeare and Baz Luhrman thus represent love to their audience beyond the distinct ideas of love as simple sentiments. In the play, there are 2 basic levels the real world of Verona and the private, intimate sphere of Romeo and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This also reveals to the audience an empathy that the two star crossed lovers were made fore each other. Luhrman achieves this via the use of smitten, longing looks, the close up shots, and the music of Des ree (Kissing You). Through Scene 5, Romeo continues to show himself as a hopeless romantic besotted with beautiful girls. His language indicates that he thinks of love and commitment in terms of sight: Did my heart love till now? Forswear it sight! For I ne er saw true beauty till this night , as he says at his first glimpse of Juliet. This statement recalls Scene 2, in which he spoke of the devout religion of mine eye and said that if his eyes were heretical enough o consider another girl more beautiful than his Rosaline, his tears would turn to fire and burn at stake. However, as soon as he lays his eyes on Juliet, his devotion to the apparently less beautiful Rosaline disappears and a new religion is found for Romeo. Shakespeare thus portrays Romeo and his love as an infatuation. This infatuation is evident in how instantaneously Romeo falls out of love with Rosaline and into love with Juliet. At one stage, Rosaline was the precious treasure of his eyesight , yet Romeo s embodiment of perfection was, a few scenes later, his notion of defectiveness. This therefore reveals to the audience the instantaneous and reckless path of the two lovers, as well as the fickleness of adolescent love , diminishing at the sight of ... Some people may say we stole parts from them, but I believe we borrowed them and made them better. We made them better because they were now part of the United States of America. From the Magna Carta to the Articles of Confederation, writings all around the world influenced the US constitution. Even though we copyrighted some of the constitution it is still one of the most ingenious writings in the world. The first document to influence the constitution was the Magna Carta. Analyzing A Blood Sample Containing Drugs When analyzing a blood sample containing drugs, often a normal scale or balance cannot detect the mass of the drugs in the sample due to the small size of the sample. In that case, in order to properly determine the mass of a drug in a sample, it becomes necessary to utilize a mass spectrometer. A mass spectrometer can measure the mass of atomic sized particles with great accuracy (Jeol, 2006). In forensic toxicology, mass spectrometrycan provide scientists with the identity and quantity of a drug in a sample (Christopher Tilson, personal communication, March 19, 21016). Mass spectrometry serves as an exceptionally useful method in the field of forensic drug analysis, as its ability to determine the mass of exceedingly small particles assists in the classification and quantification of drugs in a sample. Before analyzation of a blood sample using mass spectrometry can occur, separation of the drugs from the blood must take place. If sent directly into the mass spectrometer, the blood would create too many peaks in the results. Not to mention, the blood would make the mass spectrometer too dirty to provide accurate results (Christopher Tilson, personal communications, March 19, 2016). Due to these facts, forensic scientists always spate the drugs from the blood sample using one of two methods. The first method, called liquid extraction, works by adding liquids of different polarities to the blood sample. By choosing the right solvents, the drugs will separate from the blood. ...
