Theorist, Theories And Theorizing
Handbooks, by their very nature, serve to define a field of study, to map out, at least for a time and for
at least some scholars, the analytic parameters, key figures, perspectives, concerns associated with the
field (Ritzer, G., Smart, B. (Eds.). (2008).
In part one of the Theorist, Theories and Theorizing by George Ritzer and Barry Smart shows how the
Handbook of Social Theory utilized in the field that it is exhibit correspondingly to different situation.
As for my own analysis, theory and theorizing goes hand in hand together that gives more interesting
elements on the field of assorted studies. As well as we give credits to various gifted Theorist
mentioned in introductory part that their works, contributions, analysis, superb intelligence and good
studies are very useful. However, utilization of many Theories encountered conflict and in contrast
manner that societies changing overtime, the world from nineteenth century to twenty first century is
very much different, very demanding especially in cross cultural differences and the existence of
network society . Therefore, the brilliant works of multiple theorist might not applicable from one
situation to another on the course of the field though it serves as background knowledge and the role
of theory is always symbolic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tragic Drama According to AC Bradley s Theory of...
Part one: Tragic drama according to A.C. Bradley s theory of Shakespeare
The substance of Shakespeare s tragedy solely points out to the power of death. In this five act play,
the death of important characters suffices for the cruel reality of life. However, a completely realm is
required in order to observe Shakespeare s version of tragedy. Shakespeare has used tragedy to explain
on the major paradoxes of life. It can be called a Paradox of disappointment. Defeat, unfulfilled
desired, failed hopes and then finally death are some of the faces of tragedies faced by Human. These
are realities of life and cannot be avoided. Although they form the foundation of our lives but are still
considered as intruders to our ideal version of life. This is the reason why when we are confronted by
tragic literature in this particular paradox, we become fascinated.
Bradley emphasizes on viewing the literary techniques used not as the basic constituents but as the
expression of tragedy. Some of the major characters in Shakespeare s renowned tragedies are Hamlet,
King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth. Most of these characters are individual sufferers as in reality; a
single man faces the paradoxes of life. In every work of Shakespeare, irrespective of the individually
unique traits, we find a shattered hope or a failed ambition as a reason for frustration. Hence, it is the
disappointment paradox which serves as the substance of any tragedy as per Shakespeare.
Furthermore, it is the death itself

Some other generalizations of polygons are described below. HISTORY OF POLYGONS Polygons
have been known since ancient times. The regular polygons were known to the ancient Greeks, and
the pentagram, a non convex regular polygon (star polygon), appears on the vase of Aristophonus,
Caere, dated to the 7th century B.C.[citation needed] Non convex polygons in general were not
systematically studied until the 14th century by Thomas Bredwardine.[20] In 1952, Shephard
generalized the idea of polygons to the complex plane, where each real dimension is accompanied by
an imaginary one, to create complex polygons.[21] [pic] The historical image of polygons 1969

The Epidemic Of Newark s Past Society
There are three side to every story: his side, her side, and the truth. Sometimes the truth gets twisted,
but through the different people s perspectives one can understand how a turn of events occur. There a
three pivotal events that are a part of Newark s ongoing history; they are the Cholera epidemic that
killed tons of people, the destruction of high rise public houses, and the Summer Riots that occurred in
1967. Through various people s perspectives we can understand how individuals of Newark s past
society endured the struggles that they were faced with. In a developing society where a variety people
come together, different customs and practices, as well as diseases, are exchanged. One example of an
outbreak of a disease is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many immigrants that come to Newark are forced to live in tight spaces, and even tenements, meaning
that those who are the most targeted by this disease are the immigrants that come to Newark. Most
people of higher classes began to accuse immigrants of bringing the disease, rather than focusing on
eradicating the disease. Everyone wants to point fingers at immigrants because it is easier to point out
those who are new to town, and are not pivotl to society. For these immigrants, many of them are
victims to this disease all due to being forced in a poor lifestyle because of their financial status. Stuart
Galishoff, a writer, also touches on Cholera hitting Newark, and writes a book titled, Newark, the
Nation s unhealthiest City . In this book he claims, The epidemic raged out of control until late
August. By a quirk of fate the last case occurred in early September in the same house in which the
diseases had first appeared some two months earlier. In all, 127 had contracted Cholera and 65 died
(54). Through his perspective of Cholera coming to Newark, the audience is given a time frame of
when this occurred, as well as the toll it took on its residents. This Information can be used to see how
a disease can come to a city, collect victims, and then eventually leave. Cholera is a disease that is a
part of Newark s past, and through Galishoff words it becomes evident that Cholera is a cyclic disease

Term Limits In American Politics
For many years in American politics there are constantly debates on whether or not there should be
term limits imposed on politicians. Term limits have worked their way through Congress into many
cities and counties across America. With much support for term limits from Americans, it shows how
unsatisfied they are with politicians. But there are other ways to get politicians out of office without
term limits. With peoples vote there can be someone new to take the role and do a better job than the
last. Term limits would also decrease experience and would not help anyone gain more knowledge for
their job. In essence, limits are not needed for United States Senators and Representatives. All
Americans eighteen and older have a right to vote. If people do not like their current U.S. Senator or
Representative that is running in an election for another term, they simply do not have to vote for him
or her. When an official is not making the best decisions and/or choices, it is up to the people to make

Without term limits both can prosper and become better at their job. With time they can find out what
people want and what they do not want. They find out things that cannot work and things that will
work while they serve. Every term they serve, Senators and Representatives learn more about not only
their job but gain insight on what senior members of Congress do as well. As a member of the House
of Representatives one term is only two years. If there are term limits imposed what kind of
experience can they obtain? Then in fact, what is the point of running for a seat in the House if you
were only guaranteed it for two years? What can they get done in two years? It is a very short time and
nothing would ever get done with Representatives or Senators always changing every one or two

Greek Influence On Minoan Society
Ancient Greece has influenced us today in so many ways. The first Greek people were the Minoans.
Their success was based on trade, instead of conquest. They set up trade outpost throughout the
Aegean world. They got new ideas about fields such as writing and architecture from Egypt and
Mesopotamia. They used these ideas and adapted them into their own culture. We learned a lot about
the Greek s from their frescoes, which are colorful paintings completed on wet plaster. They often
depicted Minoan society, and they told us that they valued the sea and they worshipped a bull as well
as a mother goddess. In about 1400 B.C., Minoan civilization disappeared, and the Mycenaeans
replaced them. The Mycenaeans were the first Greek speaking people ... Show more content on

They developed their own unique ways, at the same time. Specifically, Greeks developed news ideas
on governing each individual Greek polis. A polis is a city state. The earliest civilizations began
around fertile river valleys. Strong rulers organized ways or irrigation that helped produce surpluses of
food that were needed by large cities. By 750 B.C., a rapid population growth forced many Greeks to
leave the overcrowded valleys. Because fertile land was limited, the Greeks expanded overseas. The
gradual scattering of Greek colonies took place all around the Mediterranean from Spain to Egypt.
They carried their ideas and cultures to all the places they traveled. Greek civilizations had several
different types of government. A monarchy is a government system where a hereditary ruler exercises
a central power. Slowly the power shifted to a class of noble landowners. They could only afford
bronze weapons and chariots, so they were also military defenders of the city states. An aristocracy is
the rule by a hereditary landholding elite. As trade expanded, a new middle class emerged in some
cities. This class consisted of wealthy merchants, farmers, and artisans. They challenged landowning
nobles and then dominated some city states. The result of this was a form of government called an
oligarchy. Power is in the hands of a small, wealthy elite. The changes in military technology

Examples Of Discrimination In A Fine Balance
Caste Discrimination in Politics
In A Fine Balance, Mistry investigates the subaltern status of the Dalits and the impact of
untouchability on politics. At that point, Mistry highlights the cruelty of political issues in this novel.
Judith Fetterley expounds the power in politics: Power is the issue in the politics of literature, as it is
in the politics of anything else. To be excluded from a literature , that claims to define one s identity is
to experience a peculiar form of powerlessness (492).
He also investigates the injustice of caste, and tests the ramifications of opposing it. While Narayan
picks political resistance, Om and Ishvar experience the ill effects of escape and outcast. Mistry

The Federal Election Commission ( Fec )
In 2009, Citizens United, a nonprofit organization, sued the Federal Election Commission (FEC),
which led to the controversial Supreme Court case that resulted in the removal of some of the
limitations on how corporations can spend money in elections. The Court majority argued that
restricting independent political spending is the equivalent of disregarding the right to free speech.
However, many Democrats and some Republicans believe that the power and sway of corporations
have a corrupting influence on American democracy; even if deals aren t made, the immense
concentration of direct contributions from the wealthiest 1 percent of the population gives them an
unusual influence over the political system. It is for this reason that almost every Democrat insists on
the reversal of Citizens United. President Obama, in his 2010 State of the Union address, reprimanded
the Supreme Court justices for their decision. The court, he stated, reversed a century of law that..will
open the floodgates for special interests...to spend without limit in our elections (Obama 2010).
Democratic lawmakers, activists, and supporters condemned the ruling as a disaster and bad for
American democracy (Kroll 2014). However, are the fears and concerns of Democrats valid and
justified? While it is true that there has been an increase in independent political spending following
the 2010 decision, it is up for debate whether this is just a systematic increase or one that warrants
close scrutiny. I

Stem Cells And Its Effects On The Field Of Bioengineering
Stem cells has outgrown its medico therapies in the field of bioengineering and also in the treatment of
various conditions of the blood and immune system, or to cure specific cancers Since it s a known fact
that stem cells can different to specialized cells in an undifferentiated manner. As the paper states the
use of insulin producing cells from human or rat adipose tissue derived stem cells transduced with
pancreatic duodenal homeobox can could cure type 1 diabetes. An alternative is, use of embryonic

An alternative treatment to type 2 diabetes is insulin therapy since it is difficult to achieve desired
glucose levels due to increased spread of the disease. Transplantation of pancreas or replacement of
patient s islets of Langerhans is an ongoing treatment capable of achieving normoglycemia. However
the limitations of immunesupression and scarcity of donor pancreas make this procedure not very
desirable.
Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells ,
example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes , insulin
producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic duodenal
homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose levels in
streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the unlikeliness of
producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical applications. Moreover,
there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using experiments done by western
blot, immunofluorscence and RT PCR. We need to further tune this treatment strategy to improve
blood glucose levels to be able to beat the insulin therapy. A very efficient way to approach this
problem is using insulin secreting cells derived

Reflection On Stoma Care
Introduction:
During my current Professional Experience Placement (PEP) is in Medical Ward, I got an opportunity
to take care of the patient (Mrs Leoine), who had a bowel surgery as she had a bowel cancer for which
ileostomy stoma was created on the lower side of her abdomen to discharge faecal matter and urine.
Mrs Leoine was required full assistance with her stoma care as she was not fully aware about stoma
care. Therefore, my learning skill is stoma care that plays a significant role in delivering a person
centred care to Mrs Leoine.
Sets achievable action plan; describe the outcomes 5%
To achieve my learning needs, I discussed my concerns about stoma care with my preceptors while
she was changing the patient stoma bag than she briefly explained to me, including type of stoma, sign
of infections and how should change the stoma bag. From her explanation, I learnt that critical
thinking plays a vital role in any change in colour of surrounding skin and the output of stoma.
Changing skin colour may indicate for sign of infection and high output of stoma can cause of
dehydration following low blood pressure and a risk of fall respectively (Kwiatt Kawata 2013).
My facilitator also organises a skill day to impart us depth knowledge about the documentation of
stoma care that would help in maintaining the continuity of stoma care (Williams 2007). My facilitator
demonstrated the whole skill step by step which made me more confident in performing the skill.

The Spiritual Side Of Healing
The word healing comes from the Anglo Saxon word haelen, which means to make whole. One way to
look at it is as harmony of mind, body, and spirit. (Keirtzer, 2013) Healing not only pertains to being
cured from a disease or sickness but also at peace with what is happening or has happened. Because
most of the world is deeply religious it is important that they are healed physically, physiologically
and spiritually. The components of healing involve technology, the environment, and the culture. To
be completely healed a hospital need to look at the spiritual side of healing and must make sure that
the patient has been satisfied and is able to cope with the sickness. Therefore, technology is always
advancing in our world and new innovations are created to help patients be cured faster and in decent
time. New technology has made it where the patients can order food off of touch screens and contact
their doctors with emails. We have big machines that analyze patients and can look into their bodies to
help diagnose the problems. The internet has helped the patients stay connected to their doctors from
where ever they are at. Also, prescription drugs have made the healing process faster keep the patient
healthy. With all the advancement in technology, it is important to remember that they are people and
need human interactions and one on one talking. The advancement of technology as it has connected
the patient to physician also disconnects the patient from one on one time

Core Values Of My Life
Friedman reading lists many core values, but the ones that are most important to me and have
influenced me the most include: Physical Fitness, Creativity, Enjoyment, and Family. Physical fitness
means, staying in shape through physical activity and healthy nutrition. This has always been a big
part of my life. In my childhood I incorporated physical activity through different activities my mother
would sign me up for such as, swimming, roller staking, and dancing. As I got older my main physical
activity was dance, I grew to love it and it helped me stay in shape. Along, with this though I always
tried to eat a healthy diet because my family has a history of high blood pressure. Being physically fit
influenced me to make healthy choices and break away from my family s history of health problems.
It also, lead me to healthier eating choices now and more physical activity through other sports such as
kickboxing which also builds disciple leading to a more organized lifestyle and doing better in school
because of it.
Furthermore, physical fitness led to creativity, which is another major influence in my life. Creativity
according to Friedman is discovering, developing, or designing new ideas or things; demonstrating
imagination. As I mentioned previously, physical fitness has been a big part of my life, most of all this
consisted dance. My mother s love for dance was passed on to me and through this I learned creativity.
I have been dancing for almost fourteen years and I have picked up many different techniques. Being a
dancer involves a lot of creativity because you need to be able to learn new styles and create your own
dances using these styles. My creativity in dance followed through to the classrooms I ve sat in. It has
allowed me to think outside of the box and get creative with class projects and with work. Often times
my friends come to me when they want new idea s or a different view on projects they are working on
and it feels great that I am able to help them. Another value that has greatly impacted my life is
enjoyment. Enjoyment is fun, joy, and laughter. Without this my life would dull and unfulfilled. My
friends bring me enjoyment every day. It keeps me happy and wanting to learn and do new

The Three Main Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
After suffering many devastating defeats at the hands of the West. The Qing dynasty was suffering,
and the majority of China was left impoverished. In the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the Society
of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and
foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. There
were three main causes for the Boxer Rebellion.
The first cause for the boxer rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. After suffering
humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to
foreigners. Along with this, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a
significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry
at the foreigner. The economy became disastrously disrupted by the arrival of industrialism and
modernity. According to historian David Silbey There was a logic to the anti foreign sentiment: Many
Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There
was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only
by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. .
They regarded the West as foreign devils , and wished to keep sovereignty and independence. They
were extremely nationalistic. Mark Twain

Labour Party Comparison
In recent years, the similarities between the main parties, Labour and the Conservatives, have
increased in comparison to the differences between them. Traditionally, the parties were dissimilar in
ideology and policy, however now they are much more similar, but differ in the way in which they
want to implement their policies. Also, whilst both parties are somewhat internally divided, the
Conservatives are more so than Labour in terms of the issue due to Brexit. Brexit continues to provide
divisions within the Conservative party. Furthermore, the parties share few similarities in the way they

The White Star Line
At this time, the means of mass transportation moved out to the ocean which is why they existed to
carry many people for these ships maiden voyages. Three different stratifications of society were able
to travel by the waterways, as in the Titanic there were the three uniquely designed decks to meet each
passengers financial expectations and lifestyles. The interior designing of three of The White Star Line
ships were remotely similar as they may have one upped each other as the previous ship sunk. Harland
and Wolff were a responsible shipbuilding company and these three ships were amongst many that
were built by them in their time. A very fascinating detail about the sinkings would be that the

The hull or the bottom structure of the ship weighed half of that amount of steel. For being so large it
was designed to only travel at the speed of 20 22 knots. On June 14, 1911, The Olympic officially
entered the ocean workforce being the ninth out of fourteen four shacked ocean liners ever to be built,
her maiden voyage was made a few days later to New York in exactly 5 days, 16 hours, and 42

Murk Evaluating Sources
Part One: Evaluation of Sources This investigation is based on a combination of primary and
secondary sources. The most valuable primary source is from See It Now, a series broadcasted by
CBS, produced by Edward R. Murrow and Fred W. Friendly, and hosted by Murrow. The show ran
from 1951 1958 and is regarded as a turning point in news broadcasting. The program had a reputation
of being an honest and thoughtful presentation of current events. The episode titled A Report on
Senator Joseph R. McCarthy aired on March 9th, 1954. Murrow discussed the communist hunt
launched by McCarthy and extensively used excerpts McCarthy s speeches. The source used is a video

This is an issue that historians face daily. To what extent is largely a matter of opinion based on the
given facts. After gathering data and sources, I was able to intuitively determine the extent to which
Murrow s broadcast affected McCarthy s political career.
Throughout this investigation, many types of sources were used. Primary source recordings to books
written by historians alike point to the same conclusion: Murrow s famous broadcast planted seeds of
dissent in public opinion and marked the beginning of the end for McCarthy s political career. Every
source used for this investigation supports this conclusion, which indicates that further research should
be done. This investigation is lacking in sources demonstrating that Murrow was unimportant in
McCarthy s political career. In this way, this investigation is biased in support of Murrow. Even if this
investigation had more sources supporting the opposite perspective, a slight bias would still be
present. One of the greatest challenges of history is maintaining

The Pros And Cons Of Immigration And Naturalization
Immigration and naturalization seem to be a relentless ever present concern of the American
government. The immigration of different European, Jewish, Asian, and Hispanic groups during
different eras of American history have continuously raised interest in how the government should
balance America s reputation for being a welcoming place where anyone can succeed, without
sacrificing the economy. One group which was especially targeted and discriminated against by the
legal system throughout American history was Asian immigrants. This is evident in naturalization
laws, and the results of Supreme Court cases petitioned by predominantly Chinese as well as other
Asian groups such as Japanese and Hindus. Much of the discrimination against Asian immigrants
dreaming of becoming American citizens was founded in naturalization acts which dictated who was
and who was not allowed to become a citizen. The Naturalization Act of 1790, as well as the act that
replaced it in 1795, dictated that only a free white person may be granted citizenship (Naturalization
Act 1790/1795). Furthermore, the Naturalization Act of 1906, explicitly dictated that The
naturalization of Chinamen is prohibited (citation). Finally, the McCarran Walter Act, also known as
Nationality Act of 1952, which followed World War II sought directly to exclude the Japanese from
becoming American citizens, stating preference for Chinese and Korean immigrants (citation).
Given the ambiguity of these naturalization acts, there were several cases brought to court to clarify
citizenship laws. Specifically, there were many cases brought by people of Chinese descent. While the
outcomes of those cases were primarily against the foreign plaintiffs, there were still instances where
the plaintiffs won. This is best demonstrated by analyzing the two cases: United States v. Wong Kim
Ark and Chang Chan v. Nagle. Wong. Kim Ark was a child born in the United States of parents of
Chinese descent. Under the Naturalization Act of 1790 previously discussed, Wong s parents were not
eligible for U.S. citizenship. As a result, they moved back to China. After returning from a visit to his
parents in 1890, Wong: applied to the collector of customs to be permitted to land, and

Relationship Between My Husband And Child For My Future...
Relationship is defined as the way in which two or more concepts or people are connected. This means
like how two people can relate with one another or generally just how the relationship works. We all
know that it takes a lot to make any relationship work whether it s a marriage or even just in making
friendships work. There are certain components that must be present to make it work. In addition,
there s also the question of what are you willing to invest in the relationship. Personally, I have a few
ideas of what I would expect in my husband and child for my future family. Communication is one of
the most important aspects of making a relationship work. I want a husband who I can just talk to. I
want to be able to talk about my emotions, spiritual aspects, and just about anything about my life. My
number one priority however would have to be finding someone who I can be myself with. I want
someone who ll understand me and my culture or at least someone who s open minded. It also helps if
we have the same beliefs especially in deciding what we would teach our children or how we would
raise them. Having the same beliefs would decrease the amount of arguing or compromising we have
to go through. He should also have the same expectations in the relationship and the willingness to be
in it. For example, when I marry someone, divorce is not an option unless the circumstances are really
bad and almost unbearable. He must understand that, and he must understand my beliefs. In

How Does Jonathan Edwards Use Figurative Language
The Language of the Olden Days The writings back then may be a bit confusing to read nowadays, but
it can deliver a message in a meaningful way. Dekanawida and Jonathan Edwards both used figurative
language to relay important messages to their people. They may have been about different subjects but
they used figurative in the same ways and also in different ways. One of them is a bit darker message,
Jonathan Edwards, while Dekanawida s was a more positive message about their united tribes. They
both used figurative language a lot in their documents expressing their feelings about their opinions.
So that, thus it is that a natural men are held in the hand of God, over the pit of hell; they have
deserved the fiery pit, and are already sentenced to it... (Edwards, 46). That is just the first sentence in
Jonathan Edwards writing showing how he believes how God see s man in the beginning. Five arrows
shall be bound together very strong and each arrow shall represent one nation. (Dekanawida, 110)

Social Construction, Organic Solidarity And Culture
In my eighteen years of living, I ve been conforming to the societal norms set for me. Ranging from
the career path I m taking to simple everyday activities, society has impacted all aspects of my life.
Sometimes we fear going against what is normal for us to do because of the consequences that might
happen. Ironically, most people do not fully understand that these norms have been pushed on them,
but they continuously follow them day to day. The majority of what affects our daily lives is
socialization, with the addition of social construction, organic solidarity and culture (Giddens, A.,
Duneier, M., Appelbaum, R., Carr, D., 2014). In every attempt to break free from the chain put upon
us by these societal norms, we only dig ourselves deeper into what society wants from us. Recently I
ve attempted to dig deeper into how the high demands of society has affected me personally and I ve
realized that it started from the time that I was born. Ideally, one needs to understand the cultural turn
in their lives to understand how everything surrounding them in their daily lives (Giddens, 2014, p.
60). Starting at a very young age, I ve been labeled by society. When I was born, no one focused on
the idea of what I would turn out to be. Instead, they focused on putting me in fluffy, pink outfits and
imprinting me with femininity. They focused on showing me Disney movies with female leads that
depended on men to save them and whisk them away to a life of luxury. There was a strong

Brain Stimulation Research Summary
Article One
Okun (2012) utilized a systematic review of four samples to explore deep brain stimulation effects on
advanced Parkinson s patients quality of life, severity of motor symptoms, and the number of hours
per day spent in the on state without dyskinesia (Appendix D). Pertinent findings from the critical
appraisal of this article included: validity of the reviews utilized in the study, sample size,
measurement of variables, findings, and strengths and weaknesses.
The review employed four randomized, controlled clinical trials of deep brain stimulation that
occurred in Germany, Austria, United Kingdom, and the United States (Okun, 2012). It did not discuss
a detailed description of the search strategy that was used to find all the relevant studies in the review.
Participants were randomly assisted to one of two groups undergo bilateral deep brain stimulation or
to only receive medical therapy, which stood as the control group (Okun, 2012). In both the treatment
and control group, follow up appointments of the subjects occurred at three months, six months, and

Using four trials sanctioned for a pooled estimate on the effect of deep brain stimulation, which
assisted in the reduction of false negative results. It sanctioned for a more objective appraisal of the
evidence, by discerning the results of multiple studies. A factor that may have influenced the result
stands that three of the studies made comparisons with medical therapy, and one compared deep brain
stimulation with a no stimulation group (Okun, 2012). A weakness of this review stands that the
selection of the studies and data could have been biased. The researcher selected studies to construct a
review from, but did not state how the reviews were validated or why they were selected for this

Juxtaposition In Picture Bride

Japanese woman who is named Hana. She marries Taro who is a Japanese man who lives in America.
One of the important themes of this book is reality does not always match the expectation. In order to
develop this theme, Uchida uses the literary and rhetorical devices of juxtaposition, rhetorical
question, and perspective. Uchida introduces the theme through the usage of juxtaposition. As you can
see, before Hana marries with Taro, she imagines her life in America. Also, Hana have a conversation
about American life with her new friend, Kiku. Kiku says that Hana may need to do the housework for

theme by demonstrating Hana s perspective toward Mary s boyfriend. Although Uchida used the third

By reading about Hana s thoughts, readers knows that Hana expects Mary to marry a Japanese man

Assimilation, Amalgamation, And Accommodation
With over seventy five million immigrants coming into the United States since it first became a
nation, several theories have resulted. This chapter looks at assimilation, amalgamation, and
accommodation. The values of the dominant culture includes how those in America should look,
speak, and act. However, when these standards are not met by the immigrants it becomes difficult for
them to fit in comfortably. On the other hand, diversity allows for greater possibilities and unexpected
relationships to form. First, assimilation is discussed as immigrants forming within the dominant
groups, without any differences being seen. The minority conforms to the standards of society and
leaves behind their cultural and social differences. Therefore, when it comes to physical appearance, it
does not bother the dominant group because all other aspects of them already conformed. Throughout
the eighteenth century, the English decent played a tremendous role in the developing this newly
discovered nation s culture. Although people tried to get away from this English culture during the
nineteenth century, it shortly returned and the Angelo Saxon heritage became the standard for
minorities. To persevere this standard, schools were the main influence in getting rid of cultural
differences among individuals. Cultural assimilation, as explained by Milton Gordon is one important
phase of assimilation. This is where cultural patterns of the minorities change to mirror those of the
dominant

Horseflesh Trial

They achieved death, but not how the quietus intended: Lawrence contracted an allergic reaction and

Compare And Contrast Antigone And Martin Luther King
Antigone and Martin Luther King Analysis
Antigone and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that breaking laws that are unjust can be a good
thing by bringing reform. Their nonviolent approach of civil disobedience till this day leave an impact
on how we go about social injustice. Through their actions and words, both Antigone, and Dr. Martin
Luther king demonstrate that they are not afraid to die for their beliefs and inspire us to take a passive
approach towards the social injustices we are faced by in our community. I sympathize more with Dr.
Martin Luther King because I believe that he took a more logical approach in stopping social injustice,
as well as the fact that he is willing to put his life on the line for a whole community of people, in
contrast to Antigone who is willing to die for solely her brother.
The first story I will be analyzing will be Antigone by Sophocles, and translated by Ruby Blondell.
After Antigone s brothers, Eteocles and Polynices battle for the throne of Thebes, they both die and
their uncle Creon becomes king. Creon sends orders that Eteocles be buried while Polynices, the
invader be left to rot. Additionally, Creon insist that whoever tries to bury Polynices should also be put
to death. Antigone buries Polynices anyways resulting in Creon sentencing her to death. Instead,
Antigone commits suicide causing the suicide of her fiancé, Creon s son, as well as Creons wife.

Term limits have worked their way through Congress into many cities and counties across America. With much support for term limits from Americans, it shows how unsatisfied they are with politicians. But there are other ways to get politicians out of office without term limits. With peoples vote there can be someone new to take the role and do a better job than the last. • 8. Greek Influence On Minoan Society Ancient Greece has influenced us today in so many ways. The first Greek people were the Minoans. Their success was based on trade, instead of conquest. They set up trade outpost throughout the Aegean world. They got new ideas about fields such as writing and architecture from Egypt and Mesopotamia. They used these ideas and adapted them into their own culture. We learned a lot about the Greek s from their frescoes, which are colorful paintings completed on wet plaster. They often depicted Minoan society, and they told us that they valued the sea and they worshipped a bull as well as a mother goddess. In about 1400 B.C., Minoan civilization disappeared, and the Mycenaeans replaced them. The Mycenaeans were the first Greek speaking people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They developed their own unique ways, at the same time. Specifically, Greeks developed news ideas on governing each individual Greek polis. A polis is a city state. The earliest civilizations began around fertile river valleys. Strong rulers organized ways or irrigation that helped produce surpluses of food that were needed by large cities. By 750 B.C., a rapid population growth forced many Greeks to leave the overcrowded valleys. Because fertile land was limited, the Greeks expanded overseas. The gradual scattering of Greek colonies took place all around the Mediterranean from Spain to Egypt. They carried their ideas and cultures to all the places they traveled. Greek civilizations had several different types of government. A monarchy is a government system where a hereditary ruler exercises a central power. Slowly the power shifted to a class of noble landowners. They could only afford bronze weapons and chariots, so they were also military defenders of the city states. An aristocracy is the rule by a hereditary landholding elite. As trade expanded, a new middle class emerged in some cities. This class consisted of wealthy merchants, farmers, and artisans. They challenged landowning nobles and then dominated some city states. The result of this was a form of government called an oligarchy. Power is in the hands of a small, wealthy elite. The Federal Election Commission ( Fec ) In 2009, Citizens United, a nonprofit organization, sued the Federal Election Commission (FEC), which led to the controversial Supreme Court case that resulted in the removal of some of the limitations on how corporations can spend money in elections. The Court majority argued that restricting independent political spending is the equivalent of disregarding the right to free speech. However, many Democrats and some Republicans believe that the power and sway of corporations have a corrupting influence on American democracy; even if deals aren t made, the immense concentration of direct contributions from the wealthiest 1 percent of the population gives them an unusual influence over the political system. It is for this reason that almost every Democrat insists on the reversal of Citizens United. President Obama, in his 2010 State of the Union address, reprimanded the Supreme Court justices for their decision. The court, he stated, reversed a century of law that..will open the floodgates for special interests...to spend without limit in our elections (Obama 2010). Democratic lawmakers, activists, and supporters condemned the ruling as a disaster and bad for American democracy (Kroll 2014). However, are the fears and concerns of Democrats valid and justified? While it is true that there has been an increase in independent political spending following the 2010 decision, it is up for debate whether this is just a systematic increase or one that warrants close scrutiny. Transplantation of pancreas or replacement of patient s islets of Langerhans is an ongoing treatment capable of achieving normoglycemia. Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells , example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes , insulin producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic duodenal homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose levels in streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the unlikeliness of producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical applications. Moreover, there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using experiments done by western blot, immunofluorscence and RT PCR. Core Values Of My Life Friedman reading lists many core values, but the ones that are most important to me and have influenced me the most include: Physical Fitness, Creativity, Enjoyment, and Family. Physical fitness means, staying in shape through physical activity and healthy nutrition. This has always been a big part of my life. In my childhood I incorporated physical activity through different activities my mother would sign me up for such as, swimming, roller staking, and dancing. As I got older my main physical activity was dance, I grew to love it and it helped me stay in shape. Along, with this though I always tried to eat a healthy diet because my family has a history of high blood pressure. Being physically fit influenced me to make healthy choices and break away from my family s history of health problems. It also, lead me to healthier eating choices now and more physical activity through other sports such as kickboxing which also builds disciple leading to a more organized lifestyle and doing better in school because of it. Furthermore, physical fitness led to creativity, which is another major influence in my life. Creativity according to Friedman is discovering, developing, or designing new ideas or things; demonstrating imagination. As I mentioned previously, physical fitness has been a big part of my life, most of all this consisted dance. My mother s love for dance was passed on to me and through this I learned creativity. I have been dancing for almost fourteen years and I have picked up many different techniques. Being a dancer involves a lot of creativity because you need to be able to learn new styles and create your own dances using these styles. My creativity in dance followed through to the classrooms I ve sat in. It has allowed me to think outside of the box and get creative with class projects and with work. Often times my friends come to me when they want new idea s or a different view on projects they are working on and it feels great that I am able to help them. The Qing dynasty was suffering, and the majority of China was left impoverished. In the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. There were three main causes for the Boxer Rebellion. The first cause for the boxer rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. After suffering humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to foreigners. Along with this, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry at the foreigner. The economy became disastrously disrupted by the arrival of industrialism and modernity. According to historian David Silbey There was a logic to the anti foreign sentiment: Many Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. . • 24. The Pros And Cons Of Immigration And Naturalization Immigration and naturalization seem to be a relentless ever present concern of the American government. The immigration of different European, Jewish, Asian, and Hispanic groups during different eras of American history have continuously raised interest in how the government should balance America s reputation for being a welcoming place where anyone can succeed, without sacrificing the economy. One group which was especially targeted and discriminated against by the legal system throughout American history was Asian immigrants. This is evident in naturalization laws, and the results of Supreme Court cases petitioned by predominantly Chinese as well as other Asian groups such as Japanese and Hindus. Much of the discrimination against Asian immigrants dreaming of becoming American citizens was founded in naturalization acts which dictated who was and who was not allowed to become a citizen. The Naturalization Act of 1790, as well as the act that replaced it in 1795, dictated that only a free white person may be granted citizenship (Naturalization Act 1790/1795). Furthermore, the Naturalization Act of 1906, explicitly dictated that The naturalization of Chinamen is prohibited (citation). Finally, the McCarran Walter Act, also known as Nationality Act of 1952, which followed World War II sought directly to exclude the Japanese from becoming American citizens, stating preference for Chinese and Korean immigrants (citation). Given the ambiguity of these naturalization acts, there were several cases brought to court to clarify citizenship laws. Specifically, there were many cases brought by people of Chinese descent. While the outcomes of those cases were primarily against the foreign plaintiffs, there were still instances where the plaintiffs won. This is best demonstrated by analyzing the two cases: United States v. Wong Kim Ark and Chang Chan v. Nagle. Wong. Kim Ark was a child born in the United States of parents of Chinese descent. Under the Naturalization Act of 1790 previously discussed, Wong s parents were not eligible for U.S. citizenship. As a result, they moved back to China. This means like how two people can relate with one another or generally just how the relationship works. We all know that it takes a lot to make any relationship work whether it s a marriage or even just in making friendships work. There are certain components that must be present to make it work. In addition, there s also the question of what are you willing to invest in the relationship. Personally, I have a few ideas of what I would expect in my husband and child for my future family. Communication is one of the most important aspects of making a relationship work. I want a husband who I can just talk to. I want to be able to talk about my emotions, spiritual aspects, and just about anything about my life. My number one priority however would have to be finding someone who I can be myself with. I want someone who ll understand me and my culture or at least someone who s open minded. It also helps if we have the same beliefs especially in deciding what we would teach our children or how we would raise them. Having the same beliefs would decrease the amount of arguing or compromising we have to go through. He should also have the same expectations in the relationship and the willingness to be in it. For example, when I marry someone, divorce is not an option unless the circumstances are really bad and almost unbearable. He must understand that, and he must understand my beliefs. In ... • 28. Social Construction, Organic Solidarity And Culture In my eighteen years of living, I ve been conforming to the societal norms set for me. Ranging from the career path I m taking to simple everyday activities, society has impacted all aspects of my life. Sometimes we fear going against what is normal for us to do because of the consequences that might happen. Ironically, most people do not fully understand that these norms have been pushed on them, but they continuously follow them day to day. The majority of what affects our daily lives is socialization, with the addition of social construction, organic solidarity and culture (Giddens, A., Duneier, M., Appelbaum, R., Carr, D., 2014). In every attempt to break free from the chain put upon us by these societal norms, we only dig ourselves deeper into what society wants from us. Recently I ve attempted to dig deeper into how the high demands of society has affected me personally and I ve realized that it started from the time that I was born. Ideally, one needs to understand the cultural turn in their lives to understand how everything surrounding them in their daily lives (Giddens, 2014, p. 60). Starting at a very young age, I ve been labeled by society. When I was born, no one focused on the idea of what I would turn out to be. They focused on showing me Disney movies with female leads that depended on men to save them and whisk them away to a life of luxury. There was a strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pertinent findings from the critical appraisal of this article included: validity of the reviews utilized in the study, sample size, measurement of variables, findings, and strengths and weaknesses. The review employed four randomized, controlled clinical trials of deep brain stimulation that occurred in Germany, Austria, United Kingdom, and the United States (Okun, 2012). It did not discuss a detailed description of the search strategy that was used to find all the relevant studies in the review. Participants were randomly assisted to one of two groups undergo bilateral deep brain stimulation or to only receive medical therapy, which stood as the control group (Okun, 2012). • 33. Assimilation, Amalgamation, And Accommodation With over seventy five million immigrants coming into the United States since it first became a nation, several theories have resulted. This chapter looks at assimilation, amalgamation, and accommodation. The values of the dominant culture includes how those in America should look, speak, and act. However, when these standards are not met by the immigrants it becomes difficult for them to fit in comfortably. On the other hand, diversity allows for greater possibilities and unexpected relationships to form. First, assimilation is discussed as immigrants forming within the dominant groups, without any differences being seen. The minority conforms to the standards of society and leaves behind their cultural and social differences. Therefore, when it comes to physical appearance, it does not bother the dominant group because all other aspects of them already conformed. Throughout the eighteenth century, the English decent played a tremendous role in the developing this newly discovered nation s culture. Although people tried to get away from this English culture during the nineteenth century, it shortly returned and the Angelo Saxon heritage became the standard for minorities. To persevere this standard, schools were the main influence in getting rid of cultural differences among individuals. Cultural assimilation, as explained by Milton Gordon is one important phase of assimilation. This is where cultural patterns of the minorities change to mirror those of the dominant ... Two others, the masked banditos, Lawrence and Mr. Découpage, had been given hemlock. The intention of the Grenadian jury was for them to die by the cicutoxin in the plant. Compare And Contrast Antigone And Martin Luther King Antigone and Martin Luther King Analysis Antigone and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that breaking laws that are unjust can be a good thing by bringing reform. Their nonviolent approach of civil disobedience till this day leave an impact on how we go about social injustice. Through their actions and words, both Antigone, and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that they are not afraid to die for their beliefs and inspire us to take a passive approach towards the social injustices we are faced by in our community. I sympathize more with Dr. Martin Luther King because I believe that he took a more logical approach in stopping social injustice, as well as the fact that he is willing to put his life on the line for a whole community of people, in contrast to Antigone who is willing to die for solely her brother.
