How To Get Teens Off Drugs
Step one Create a community space for teenagers that offers healthy alternatives to drugs. Activities
would include art classes, drawing classes, yoga, weight lifting, martial arts and dance. These
classes will be run by younger mentors aged 18 25.
Step two Offer a counseling program ( lead my younger councilors) that offer a safe space fro
teens to discuss their family lives, school problems, potential drug problems, sex and social issues.
Step three Create a community hot line where local teens can call in when they are in trouble
with drugs. I would love to add a place fro teens to call if they are with a drunk driver and need a
safe way to get home.
WARNING SIGNS OF DRUG ABUSE
There are numerous warning signs of drug abuse. The earlier these signs are recognized the sooner
help can be offered and the drug or alcohol abuse stopped.

. Studies show that talking to teens about drug use and abuse can be very helpful in getting teens
off drugs.
#1 The most important first step is to ask your child if they are using.
#2 Understand what the warning signs of drug abuse are and be on the look out for them.
#3 Learning the risk factor and understanding what puts kids at greater risk for using.
#4 Get support from councilors, other family members, friends and then a doctor if needed.
Theses resources can support parents or family members in getting their teens off drugs:

Technology In Modern Society
Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire
life using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly
influenced by the uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most
of our lives, but it has revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the
chances are you will be faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken
over the way we live. The use of modernized technologyis something rather new, but it is here to
stay for years to come. This being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of
understanding the true evils of what the use of technology has in storage for us.
Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to
the current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and
the list goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing
is certain, technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of
years to come unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem
with technology is that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in
a matter of minutes with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of
the world s population by simply making it rather easy to

The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality
While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries
is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the
inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison
between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the
inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth
on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the
inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of
trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other
and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen
from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives
insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset
many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one
living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to
do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are
adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very damaging cons,
ideas of self worth and values are being shoved

Representation Of Class And Class Struggle
Later theorist like Hall and Chakrabarty assert traditional early social science premised on white
patriarchal, male dominated European colonialism and ideology alone, does nott consider the
important values of other cultures and the articulation of race in the historical development and
Capitalism. Thus they assert that the past, and present practices and histories of other races,
cultures and cultures practices thwart the totalizing attempt of the earlier theorist like Gramsci and

He asserts we must question historicism as an idea thus suggesting that to understand anything it
has to be understood as a whole via its historical development (6). Thus, the totalizing theory makes
society blind to how local knowledge, different races, and cultures are essential in the development
of history. Developing a distinction Marx made between the two kinds of history, Chakrabarty
says History 1 is defined as the history of capitalism, and History 2, is defined as the development
of human history that does not fit in the metanarrative of History 1 (50). Chakrabarty says Marx
totalizing theories argue, that History 2, will ultimately be subsumed by History 1 overall history
of capitalism from feudal stages to the present, However Chakrabarty argues that History 2 is not
separate from capital. As History 2 inherent in capital but interrupts and punctuates the logic of
capitalism (64). Additionally, Marx, (Marxist) Gramsci thinks that History 1 is the real history,
while Chakrabarty asserts without History two there would be no History one as history two is
charged with the function of constantly interrupting the totalizing thrusts of History 1 (66).
Chakrabarty details how Marxist abstract and real labor analogies fails to illustrate their theoretical
application in other local and cultures. Therefore, the Western thought of Marxismas with Gramsci

Hot Topic Research Paper
Picture it a middle kids trying to find who they are. Going shopping for the start of the school
year had always come with some anxiety. How do I want to portray myself to my other
classmates? This middle schooler is more of the nerdy type of kid. He couldn t find any clothes
that showed who he is and what he liked. Then one day as he was perusing the mall with his
mom. He found this small dark store with this alluring music pouring out of its wooden double
doors. It beckoned him into its dark embrace as the music calmed his frantic mind. The kid was
enveloped by the wall of character t shirts from PokГ©mon to South Park. His nerdy heart soared
when he came across the plethora of pop culture references and funny merchandise. I can honestly
say that Hot Topic helped this middle schooler on his journey to finding himself. Although to the
average person on the outside the store seems dark and intimidating. Hot Topic is a store focused

The store began as a music inspired accessory shop. The sale of apparel and Rock t shirts didn t
start until 1990.They also began to notice their customers were drawn to pop icons, comic book
characters, and various cartoon characters. Hot Topic in present time has many different
cartoons and pop icons being created pretty much every year. These range from Disney movies,
cartoons, new celebrities, and up incoming bands. In 2001, Hot Topic started Torrid, a store that
focused on clothing for plus size women. In the process of broadening their horizon Torrid
became one of best plus size women s apparel stores around. Hot topic may seem a bit pricey at
times, but you must put into consideration what it takes to get those unique clothes. Unlike most
large retail stores Hot Topic buys from smaller companies and entrepreneurs. So with that being
said the products Hot Topic buys from them is not mass produced and some items are hard to find.

The Label Of Gnostic Gospel
The label Gnostic gospel was used for the revelation dialogues between Jesus and his disciples,
which form a prominent group of Gnostic writings. Titles of the form gospel according to ...
became attached to the canonical Gospels in order to distinguish another writing in a collection;
this was a development in the mid to late second century. In addition, when copying collections of
writings, scribes had to assign titles to individual Gnostic works. Based on how rarely gospel
appears as a title, one would have to conclude that Gnostics had little interest in the specification.

Once attributions with no basis in the works themselves are discounted, the number of Gnostic
texts entitled gospel shrinks even further. The Valentinian entries, the Gospel of Truth and the
Gospel of Philip, have no ties to the genre gospel. Valentinian teachers interpret Gospels that are
common property of the larger Christian community. In the remaining cases, both the Gospel of
Thomas and the Gospel of Judas have an incipit that employs a different literary designation. A
later scribe took the apostle s name from the incipit to create the title. The opening pages of the
Gospel of Mary have been lost. Her prominence in the second half of the text may have provided a
scribe with the name for a title. None of the Gnostic tractates entitled gospel initially had that
designation.
Used in the oral sense for preaching a message about salvation revealed through the coming of
Jesus, it is the content of their soteriology, not the term that distinguishes Gnostics from other
Christians. Used in the mid second century forward for written accounts of Jesus and his teaching
commonly circulated among Christians, there is no special Gnostic Gospel. Gnostic teachers rely
on the range of gospel traditions being circulated among Christians, with no greater tendency than
believers to exploit apocryphal Gospels. In addition, the poetics of the Gnostic universe push its
teachers away from imaginative engagement with the historical or physical world such as might

Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler
A True Narcissist in Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler Within Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler the
protagonist pushes the boundaries of what people are able to do and get away with. Some may
consider Hedda to be a true romantic longing for a little excitement but beneath the mask behind
which she hides, lies a truly selfish and arrogant woman. Hedda Tesman s dark personallity can
be easily observed within her interactions with her husband George Tesman and his aunt Juliana
Tesman. Hedda treats her husband very poorly and constantly brings him down. George s wife
never shows any sign of affection towards him and is incapable of empathizing with him. The
inability to empathize with others can be easily associated with narcissism. When George
wishes to show Hedda his slippers she can t even be bothered to take a look and cares not for his
feelings. Hedda always wants more from her husband. When George is worried about Eilert
competing for his post all Hedda can think about are the horse and butler she won t be given. In
her dealings with Miss Tesman, Hedda almost purposefully intends to hurt her. Hedda
intentionally mistakes aunt Julia s hat to be the maid s which comes to hurt the poor aunt very
badly, however she comes to forgive Hedda quite quickly, General Gabler s daughter is simply
allowed to get away with things like these. When she later, tells of the incident to Judge Brack,
Hedda explains her behaviour by saying: these impulses just suddenly come over me, and I can t

Compare and Contrast the Various Models of Abnormal...
Compare and contrast the various models of abnormal functioning using evidence from current
psychological research. For many years scientists, including doctors, psychologists, and
psychiatrists, have been interested in trying to understand human behaviour, in particular behaviour
that is described as being abnormal . It is difficult to define abnormal in terms of behaviour because
there are many differing descriptions which have radically changed over the years. Abnormal
behaviour is widely categorised as being persistent and in a serious degree contrary to the continued
wellbeing of the individual and/or the surrounding community. Cultural beliefs and expectations
determine which behaviour patterns are deemed as being abnormal .... Show more content on

However the psychodynamic model fails to take into consideration the effects of the environment
as does the medical model both are concerned with the internal workings and defects. The
Psychodynamic model has had a lot of opposition as it is difficult to define and research, as
processes like the id, ego and superego operate on an unconscious level and therefore there is no
real way of knowing for certain if they are indeed happening. Most of the evidence provided by this
model has been individual case studies which in itself makes it difficult to generalise. Whereas the
psychodynamic model began looking at the clinical work of physicians the behavioural model
began in laboratories experimenting on behavioural conditioning, using stimuli and rewards,
observing how their manipulations affected the responses of the individual they were studying.
This model unlike the psychodynamic model can be tested and it is because of this that this model
holds more weighting than the psychodynamic model when trying to understand abnormal
behaviour. However this model is not without its weaknesses as there is no evidence that
individuals that display abnormal behaviour are victims of improper conditioning. Behaviourists
would argue that abnormal functioning is learnt behaviour, and not environmental or genetic, the

Learning To Die In The Anthropocene Book Summary
Title Goes Here. Learning to Die in the Anthropocene by Roy Scranton helps humanity learn to
survive in the carbon emission created world know as the Anthropocene. Helpful can be defined
as offering assistance, which this book does by spreading awareness about global warming,
helping the reader learn how to die in the Anthropocene and warning of the lack of action.
Learning to Die in the Anthropocene is a helpful book. This book is helpful because it assists in
spreading awareness about global warming. Scranton takes a scientific approach to global warming,
presenting what will happen, and why, we as the human species, are unlikely to solve it. Scranton
writes, climatologists now predict [a rise] in global temperatures 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit... Show

. . A future of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer will mean the arctic ocean will be ice free in the
summer . . . warming of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit will eventually lead to sea levels 90 to 200 feet
higher. (35 36) Scranton helps the reader understand how drastic a change of seven degrees in
global temperature is by explaining how seven degrees colder has affected the planet and how
seven degrees warmer will affect the planet. The book is also helpful because it assists with
spreading awareness that we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus
preventing us from wasting more time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and
sequestration (CCS) are common propositions as solutions. However, they have their own
problems. Renewable energy sources have problems that revolve around how they are not
cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics question whether renewable energy will ever be
a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that its cost to energy ratios are simply too
high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up and maintain and their energy is
not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the problem of cost with
renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a new and
expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly
enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice,
CCS is unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that
might make a difference. This book is helpful because it spreads awareness of what global warming
can cause and why we are unlikely to solve it. However, Scranton does provide the reader with a

Because staff at Initech do not obtain worthwhile benefits or even see the proceeds of their hard
work, which would act as motivator, they fail to feel their achievement or recognition. Moreover,
the employees at Initech do not have means for self actualization; they are neither encouraged nor
allowed to realize their full potential, which Spitzer (1995, p. 7) argued could be fatal to the future
of an organization. He argued that providing the staff with an environment of encouragement will
make them realize their full potential consequently increasing the organization s production.
Sincerity of motivation is very fundamental as far as

The President Of The Florida Chapter Of Delta Chi Here At...
To the founders of Phi Beta Kappa, My name is Jacob Dube and I currently serve as the
President of the Florida Chapter of Delta Chi here at the University of Florida. In 1776, you all
made a decision that would forever change the course of college history at the College of
William and Mary and many other universities nationwide as you created the first American
collegiate fraternity. I cannot express my gratitude for you as you all paved the way for the
Greek system in a college and university setting. The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of
its members, and it has helped produce some of the most successful people in our country. I
would like to share to you some great news about today s Greek systems here at the University of
Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many Greek students.
The Greek communities that have risen across the country have created huge impacts on every
university that they have established themselves on. Historically, fraternities were designed for
students to discreetly meet to discuss issues and host debates that their members believed would be
deemed inappropriate by their collegiate faculties. Since their founding, fraternities and sororities
have completely revamped their focuses. They are used as social, professional, and honorary
organizations that promote many different combinations of community service, leadership, and
academic success. The ideas of brotherhood and sisterhood have also transcended the college
experience,

Sacagawea History
Idaho has a fascinating history. From the state s Native American history and settlers to World War
II, and the states 1900 s disaster, Idaho has an exciting past. Plus Idaho has the best potatoes!
In August 1805, four European white men on horses arrived in what s now the Idaho Montana
border. The men were Captain Meriwether Lewis, John Shields, George Drouillard, and Hugh
Mc Nell. All these people belonged to a group of 59 explorers called the Corps of Discovery. In
what is now South Dakota a Shoshone woman, Sacagawea, became part of the expedition.
Corps of Discovery met a traveling band of Shoshones before they entered Idaho. Sacagawea
recognized their leader, he was her brother who she had not seen in five years. Lewis and Clark
were not successful without Sacagawea. When Sacagawea was little she was kidnapped from her
people and taken to live with the Mandan tribe. Sacagawea married a french trapper. Both
Sacagawea and her husband joined Lewis and Clark s expedition. She was very helpful for talking
with native people and trading.
David Thompson, a Canadian explorer, built a fur trading post on the shores of Lake and Oreille

Theme Of Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance is an important value that causes many misfortune in the story of Beowulf. It brings
not only Beowulf, but many others, fame and glory, plus, wealth as well. It is not a sustainable
value for it brings everyone in the story only destruction. The tribes that have been bonded together
by this value get destroyed but it. The value of vengeance ties courage to it since it takes courage
to follow through with someone s desire for vengeance. When Beowulfis helping Hrothgar get his
vengeance, he attacks Grendel, saw that his strength was deserting him, his claws, Bound fast,
Higlac s brave follower tearing at his hands. (Beowulf, page 36). Beowulf fights Grendel with his
hands because he promised Hrothgar that he would help him obtain his vengeance. Beowulf get
his fame, wealth and glory for his victory over Grendel which was achievable through Hrothgar s
desire for vengeance against the monster. After the battle with Grendel, Hrothgar spoke to
Beowulf, Glory is now yours, Forever and ever; your courage has earned it, And your strength.
(Beowulf, page 42). Hrothgar praises Beowulf for granting his desire of vengeance on Grendel
and awards him. He tells Beowulf that he has earned glory and wealth by helping him in
destroying Grendel. Grendel s mother is saddened and angered when she finds out her son is dead
and proceeds to Herot: But a monster still lived, and meant revenge. (Beowulf, page 56).

Why I Hate Being Complacent Essay
I hate being complacent. I try to fight complacency in all aspects of my life from academics to
my sport of ultimate. Academically, complacency is the difference between putting in the time
and effort to study for a test and shrugging it off with a simple it ll be fine. Playing ultimate
complacency looks like not doing another set of dead lifts or accepting a poor decision as
acceptable just because it happened to result in a goal because it ll work itself out. One of my
main goals for this school year is to rid my life of these complacencies. And, honoring this
commitment, I have been doing my work more thoroughly and not just at the last minute and have
been pushing myself to become faster and smarter as an ultimate player. But even with this
resolution to be better I am still complacent in those aspects of my life and will continue to be
imperfect as long as I continue to be human. But, as I have learned throughout my time at Carleton,
more specifically this term (and even more specifically the second half of this term) I am
complacent in the way I view justice in this country. There are powerful forces that shape our
criminal justicesystem that I have always vaguely known existed and have always vaguely
understood that they are inherently and systematically racist. And even hearing the facts and
numbers, my favorite things, on how racist our country is I chose to be indifferent. I knew that one

Cannonball Jellyfish Research Paper
Stomolophus meleagris, also known as the cannonball jellyfish, can often and most frequently be
found off the shorelines of countries bordering the Pacific Ocean preferably in water temperatures
close to 74 degrees Fahrenheit. It is part of the kingdom Animalia and located in the phylum
Cnideria. The jellyfishgets its name because it possesses radial symmetry and because of its bell,
which can range up to seven inches in diameter. Colors of this jellyfish slightly vary between
clear and a gradual light to dark brown color. They have circular muscles on the underside of their
bell which contract and allow it to propel itself through the water, as well as keep it upright.
Cannonball jellyfish can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Sexual reproduction starts when
the male jellyfish spews its sperm into the water, which is received by the female jelly. Once
received, the egg and sperm begin to develop larvae and form motile planula (free swimming,

Comparisons of the Natural World Up until the 17th Century, an understanding of the natural
world and how it operates was very limited and the general consensus was that there was God,
and all things were created by him in a hierarchical order that sustained the balance of man.
Although these Gods varied between ethnicities and religions, the general idea of a creator is
consistent. However, with the extent of experiences and experimentation of Galileo, Bacon and
Newton, the world was able to explore a new realm of reality in scientific discovery and analysis.

series of aphorisms by which man should abide by in order to attain a better understanding of the
natural world. These aphorisms are a guide to accepting science as the entire truth of the natural
world. His writings are peculiar because he lays down these guidelines and within them there seems
to be a constant message that instructs doubt in scientific experimentation, where Bacon himself is
a scientist that utilizes the use of experimentation and scientific method. Moreover, he outlines the
four classes of idols that effect the thought and minds of man, I have assigned names, calling the
first class Idols of the Tribe; the second, Idols of the cave; the third, Idols of the Marketplace; the
fourth, Idols of the Theatre (TOM 29). The first idol describes the need for man to distort and
discolor nature by enforcing his own nature upon it. This idol can be seen constantly throughout
scientists research as they constantly draw their own conclusions upon constant experimentation,

God Of Carnage Response
God of Carnage Response I saw the central idea of the play was how uncivilized we can be as
humans. Two parents whose children got into a dispute met to talk and got virtually nothing
accomplished. No one was empathetic with the others situation. The Novaks believed Alan and
Annette s son s behavior was caused by their neglect and was the base of the problem. The
Raleighs believed Michael and Veronica s son was too sheltered and the altercation was not a big
deal. For me there were no emotionally moving moments in the play as it was more on the side of
a comedy. The way the characters dressed was a production element that reinforced the central
theme. All four of the characters were dressed formally but did not act in that way for long. The

Immigration Has Shaped America,But Now It S Becoming Harder
Immigration has shaped America, but now it s becoming harder and harder to enter this country.
With the growing threat that immigration is bad and that illegal immigrants are stealing American
jobs, many people believe the laws need to be even more strict. With Donald Trump recently
elected that may become a reality. Trump has said I will build a great wall and also anyone who is
in the United StatesIllegally is subject to deportation (Brandner). While it is important that Illegal
immigrants be dealt with not all of them are bad. Immigration has shaped the United States before

DACA is a program that allows young people from other countries to come live in the U.S with
no risk of being deported. This program has helped roughly 665,000 people live in the U.S
(Wolgin). Although it has become harder to live in the U.S many people still try and enter
because they know America gives them an opportunity that no other country does. This is what
continues to make America great. While a constant flow of people coming to America seems
like a great idea to most, President elect Trump thinks the U.S need to limit the people it let in.
During his campaign he said he would repeal DACA and kick out all illegal immigrants. His
thought process behind this is that it will free up jobs for Americans. Trump is right that it will
free up jobs as roughly 8 million illegal immigrants currently have jobs , but the issue is that
Americans won t have the proper training to take all of these jobs (Krogstad). This will lead to
companies not producing what they should and being forced to lay off people. So overall by
kicking out all immigrants Trump will be costing many Americans jobs and could lead to
another depression. Another thing that Trump has said he will do is build a wall around the
U.S and Mexico. This wall will cost millions, maybe even billions of dollars, yet Trump has not
elaborated on how it will be paid for. He has said he will get Mexico to pay for it and that he has a
plan to do it, but nobody knows what that is. This

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Archetypal Analysis
Jekyll and Hyde TCEA Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Russian soldier from World War II once said:
The battleline between good and evil runs through the heart of every man. This quote is
pertinent to the prevailing theme in the novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
by Robert Louis Stevenson. The predominant archetypal theme is good and evil exist in all
humans, and we live our lives struggling with these two forces. This theme describes the duality
of good and evil in Dr. Jekyll the good being Jekyll and bad being Hyde and the struggle he has
with both sides fighting for dominance within himself. Each side wants to become his only existing
persona. The emotional mindset and physical attributes of Jekyll and Hyde show the good and...

your pardon, Dr. Lanyon, he replied civilly enough. What you say is very well founded; and my

running thin while talking to Dr. Lanyon. What he wanted to do was go hysterical, but had to
keep his composure for the sake of the reveal of his double life. This just shows that he was
capable for a long time of the balance between his good and evil. Jekyll repressed Hyde because
of his high status in society. He explained And indeed the worst of my faults was a certain

stakeholders. Hence, this study investigates 34 oil and gas firms websites and attempts to provide

The investigation is limited to the contents concerning CSR rationales, themes, and practices of the

Stage one of the experiment aimed at examining the effect of changes in working arrangements
upon productivity (Gale 2004). During this stage five girls were transferred from the factory
floor to a special test room where their output of relays was recorded for over two years, during
which a large number of alterations were made to their working conditions (Carey 1967). One of
the changes made was to the illumination values in the factory environment. When the light was
cut down to .06 of a foot candle the girls maintained their efficiency (Carey 1967). They found
that only extremely low illumination caused decreases in levels of production (Broches 2008).
According to Carey (1967) the conclusion came as a great Г©claircissement as the founding s

satisfactions at work and researches were puzzled to observe that productivity continued to rise

The first act would be the Quartering Act. This act is where we, as the colonists, have to provide

have to stay in barns, buildings, and inns, which leads to the fact that almost every home is filled

Yuki Tanaka s Japan s Comfort Women Essay examples
Yuki Tanaka s Japan s Comfort Women
This paper is a review of the book Japan s Comfort Women Sexual slavery and prostitution during
WWII and the US occupation by Yuki Tanaka. This book was published in 2002 by Routledge. The
book deals with the thousands of Japanese, Korean, Chinese and other Asian and European women
who were victims of organized sexual violence and prostitution by means of comfort stations setup
by the Japanese military during World War II.
As we first get into the book, we find out that the origins of comfort stations i.e. military brothels
are unknown, but official documents strongly suggest that the Japanese Imperial Forces created
comfort stations roughly around 1931 1932 for Japanese sailors. In the ... Show more content on

Some other women however faced different routes.
Chinese and Filipina women were lured into these sexual schemes by not just deceit, but by force
as well. Recruiters used violence and often kidnapping to get these women. While the Japanese
forces had occupied China, they used Korean women for their authorized comfort stations for fear
of anti Japanese resentment among Chinese civilians. However, this did not stop some Japanese
from setting up comfort stations using Chinese women. These unofficial comfort stations were
not given approval from higher Japanese authority. The Japanese army adopted the tactics called
Shodo Sakusen which meant scorched earth strategy (p.46). This meant that the army could
destroy any village if ordered too which of course included the rape of women. This is an account
of a 15 year old Chinese girl who along with other girls, was abducted and separated from her
family. Day after day they were raped by Japanese soldiers in the cave. Each day she was raped by
at least two or three soldiers sometimes by 10 soldiers. The cave was guarded by Chinese
collaborators, making it impossible to escape. She was often taken to an officer s room in the
fortress and raped there, too (p.46). The Japanese also occupied the regions of the Philippines and
Filipina women were kidnapped and abducted as well by force and were used as comfort women.
The Filipino s had a lot of anti Japanese guerilla movements

Diversity in Three Voices
Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures,
individuals informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures
(DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness
or human equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact.
Diversity is defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities
(Parvis, 2005, p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but
this concept was a perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white,
prominent settlers. Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For
example, male versus female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign
or domestic, republican versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus
Latino, Cherokee Indian versus Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could
encompass several more pages. We can deny that differences exist or we can consent to differences
while discovering from others the assets of dissimilarity. People must learn, therefore, to recognize
differences in others their backgrounds, customs, and work schedules and appreciate, even
celebrate, those differences (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Artist When it is blatantly obvious

First I shall discuss the reasons behind the necessity for a historical memory in the European
context. I will then give an overview of current European Union practices on establishing a pan

Since the Eastern Enlargement, efforts to keep history alive are supported in particular by the
Europe for Citizens Programme launched in 2006. The European Commission has extended the
programme to 2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a
greater focus on remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than
a standardised view on Europe s past, is argued for.
2.The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved
The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of
remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU
discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism.
These two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the
European project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the
right to individual self determination. The aim of remembrance policies is an informed and self
critical European historical memory. This is done with shared European principles and
universalised practices as a basis, while acknowledging the multiplicity of different national pasts at
the same time. In other words, it would not be a homogenisation of the contents of different
collective memories, but rather a Europeanisation of moral and political attitudes and practices

The Pros And Cons Of Geographic Profiling
For any crime to occur, there must have been an intersection in both time and place between the
offender and victim (Rossmo, 2012). The traditional investigative methods employed to solve serial
crimes is on the basis of the theoretical principle of psychology; by analyzing the cognitive
processes of the offender and the role of the target rather than the nature of the situation. However,
this reactive approach disregards the extent to which environmental factors are able to manipulate
the offender s behavior leading up to the criminal act. This may include factors such as the shape,
size, and distribution between one crimescene to another. A developing technique recently

projects. Interior dorm designing is a multifaceted skilled profession that includes development,
creativity, thinking, and communicating with the owners of the project and the management
and execution of the design. What I do is a process of shaping the experience of an interior space
that reflects the owner s personality. It all started when everyone complimented me on my dorm

in a lot of ways, there is no other like us. Other interior dorm design businesses are all online or
in an app. So our market structure is considered to be a monolithic competition. Which is a type
of market structure in which many other businesses sell products that are similar to us but not
identical. There are no dorm design businesses that will knock on your dorm nor move furniture
themselves. My business is an intangible service. In the near future I would like KC Design to be
worldwide in every college campus. Which means I would have to have lots of universal
employees nationwide. Our availability of substitutes can be those whom wish to design their own
rooms themselves or choose not to do business with us KC Design.

With The Old Breed Essay
With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge, is a memoir that tells the story of training and two battles
fought on Peleliu and Okinawa during his time served in WWII in the K Company, 5th Marine
regiment, 1st Marine Division. This memoir serves as a primary source that truly displays the
horrors, conditions, and attitude that were felt by the soldiers that fought in the Pacific. This
memoir examines the hardships that were felt by the Marines. As I got further into the book, I
saw the changes in his character, integrity, and morality. I believe that the chapter titles surely
represent the characteristics and feelings involved in the book. Making a Marine, Assault into
Hell, Of Mud and Maggots are just some of chapters that provide the essence and foresight of the
book. Making a Marine is a very ambiguous title for a chapter. Making a Marine does not just
stand for a man in uniform. Making a Marine describes the blood, sweat, and tears that these
brave men go through to serve their country. You people are recruits. You re not Marines. You
may not have what it takes to be Marines. (Pg. 8) Sledge did have what it takes to be a Marine, a

Standing at 6 8 280lb John Scott is one of the biggest players in the NHL, and while he may

years old. Scott still has a lot of time to improve his game and personally I can see him playing
2nd line minutes and maybe even first in Edmonton and I want to talk about his upsides. As
previously stated Scott still has a ton of time to improve and while he may be 32, he still has
about 8 years left to play. Being in the game for a long time he would bring a lot of leadership to
the Edmonton Oilers and that is one of the main things that the team lacks. It s also important to
know that Edmonton still needs a captain and I personally think John Scott would be an
excellent fit because he is able to lead his team to the playoffs, or close in this case. An example
of this is the team he played for last season, San Jose Sharks, he played 38 games and scored
three goals which is an average of a goal every 12 games. In contrast Andrew Ference scored the

advocate policies and legislation favorable to workers in the United States and Canada, and take an
active role in Democratic party politics. The AFL CIO is especially concerned with global trade
issues.

Labor Education Programs in the United States
In the US, labor education programs such as the Harvard Trade Union Program created in 1942
by Harvard University professor John T. Dunlop sought to educate union members to deal with
important contemporary workplace and labor law issues of the day. The Harvard Trade Union
Program is now currently part of a broader initiative at Harvard Law School called the Labor and
Worklife Program that deals with a wide variety of labor and employment issues from union pension
investment funds to the effects of nanotechnology on labor markets and the workplace.

Jurisdiction of labor unions
Labor unions use the term jurisdiction to refer to their claims to represent workers who perform a
certain type of work and the right of their members to perform such work. For example, the work of
unloading containerized cargo at United States ports, which both the International Longshore and
Warehouse Union and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have claimed rightfully should
be assigned to workers they represent. A jurisdictional strike is a concerted refusal to work
undertaken by a union to assert its members right to such

Response To The Sympathetic Nervous System
Stage1 Alarm stage is the immediate response to the stressor. This immediate response will result
in a person s sympathetic nervous system being stimulated. The stimulation of the person s
sympathetic nervous system is characterized by the increase in one s heart rate, blood pressure,
and respirations. This reaction is also known as a fight or flight response when adrenaline is
released in a person body which stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. This stage gives us the
strength to fight off a threat. Stage 2 Resistence stage is where the pituitary gland stops the
secretion of hormons that were responsible for the fight or flight response. After the first response
resources remain moblisezed and we begin to cope with the stressor. Stage

Euthanasia Should Be Legal Essay
Dogs do not have many advantages over people, but one of them is extremely important: euthanasia
is not forbidden by law in their case; animals have the right to a merciful death.
― Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being Euthanasia is a controversial issue.
Many people believe that doctors should not prescribe any medication that ends a person s life
since it is considered to be against the Hippocratic Oath. The Hippocratic Oath states that doctors
are professionally obliged to save lives. Some consider euthanasia to be immoral and others say that
it is murder. Euthanasia should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of euthanasia is practiced on persistent vegetative patients who cannot speak for
themselves, but who have said in the past that they would not have wanted to live that way. Active
euthanasia is commonly confused with physician assisted suicide. Physician assisted suicide is
performed when a physician, at a rational request of an adequately informed, competent patient who
plans to commit suicide, knowingly provides that patient with the medical means...and the patient
uses those means to commit suicide (Gert). Through this method, a physician does not actively kill
the person, but simply provides the person with the means to end their own life. For example, a
doctor gives a patient an injection of a morphine that is sufficient to cause their death, but does not
administer it. In the other hand, a physician actively kills a patient to end his or her suffering in
active euthanasia. For instance, a physician either overdoses the patient with pain killers or
sleeping pills. Although they are done differently, they both have the same purpose of ending a
person s suffering and pain. Legalizing euthanasia provides a way to relieve extreme pain. Modern
medicine has brought great benefits to humanity such as prolonging life, but by prolonging life it is

The Pros And Cons Of Representative Democracy
We chose to institute a direct democracy instead of a representative democracy. A direct
democracy occurs when all of the citizens propose and vote on laws. This is modeled after the
Assembly in ancient Athens. In contrast, a representative democracy happens when the people
elect a representative who proposes laws for them and a group of government officials vote to pass
or reject the law, which is similar to the current government of the United Statesof America. One of
the biggest issues with a representative democracyis that it s very easy to influence or bribe the
officials. As a result, the bribers nearly always have the officials on their side. These bribes are in
the form of campaign donations. An example of this bribery would be... Show more content on

Not all of the positions for government offices are filled through an election; many are filled
simply by an important government official deciding who gets the job. This correlates with the
issue mentioned previously about bias. In the United States of America, the seats for the
Supreme Court are filled by the President rather than an election. Therefore, if the President is
very conservative, he will appoint judges to the Supreme Court who have rulings which contain
more conservative than liberal ideas. In addition, many other governmental posts are filled with
people who are liked by those in higher positions. This proves one of the biggest arguments
against a representative government. Even though people choose the representatives, there are
so many positions that are filled without an election, the people don t actually have a voice in the
selection process. But the biggest benefit of a direct democracy is that the people actually get a
say instead of appointing a representative and hoping that the representatives won t end up being
close minded to the needs of all the people. Also, because the people will actually get a say, then
there won t always be complaints that someone didn t get a voice. Of course there will still be
people who are unhappy, but this is to be expected in a democratic system. A direct democracy
dismantles almost all of the other

How Advertising Has Become An Increasingly A Hot Topic Essay
In this technology based era ridden with deregulation, advertising has become an increasingly hot
topic. Advertising helps consumers with buying decisions, boosts economic growth, and creates
numerous job opportunities. However, there is one ingredient within advertisements which is often
overthrown for status and economic gain; ethics. For example, in 2009, The FDA mentions
Cheerios is branded in a way which makes its cereal sound like a drug to prevent, mitigate, and
treat high cholesterol and heart disease. ( FDA Warns Cheerios on Health Claims. WebMD, n.d.
Web. 12 Oct. 2016) According to the FDA, Cheerios advertisinginappropriately highlights the
fantastical benefits of its cereal. Due to this, Cheerios was forced to spend millions re designing
and re branding its products. The absence of ethics is most rampant regarding tobacco
advertisements. They offer seductive cues, subjective product descriptions, and minimal
information on their products. Thus, nearly 443,000 people die prematurely each year from
smoking. Tobacco products should not be advertised upon, as these advertisements explore a
plethora unethical values.
Several searches have revealed articles concerning the unethical advertising of tobacco products.
These articles illustrate the laws on advertising and what it means to advertise ethically, explore the
many aspects of how producers lie and deceive their customers, omit crucial facts pertaining to their
product, and whether there should be a

Working At Tacobell With A White Picket Fence
Jobs I ve Held
I want to live the American Dream. I have the wife, but I also want the two children and the
house with a white picket fence. To do so, I have to work. Since entering the workforce at the age
of 16, I ve held many jobs working in food and beverage, fast food, and investment industries.
Working in these industries has provided me with opportunities to work with different managers.
All of the managers I ve worked with had different personalities and management styles. The
purpose of this paper is to identify the management styles I encountered, the type of bosses they
were, and the leadership styles they demonstrated.
When I entered the workforce at 16, there weren t many high paying jobs available for someone
with absolutely no previous work experience. The only job available for me was in the fast food
industry, so my first job was at TacoBell. Working at TacoBell, exposed me to my very first
management style.
The general manager was a small middle aged woman named Lucy. Lucy was a very stern and
straight forward. The saying you can t teach an old dog new trick referred to her. District
managers would come into the store to train the store over new menu items, and she would argue
and openly disagree with the new changes and procedures taking place. Watching these actions on
numerous occasions, I realized how much of a control freak she was because she would constantly
disagree and tell her boss what should be done.
Then to top it off, she wasn t kind to

principles were applied (McLean, 2010).

Secret Santa Research Paper
The Most Popular Secret Santa Gifts
The tradition of giving anonymous gifts at Christmas has its roots in Scandinavia, where Secret
Santa is known as Julklapp. This word is a compound of Jul (which means Christmas ) and Klapp ,
which means knocking. In Scandinavian countries, tradition dictates that a person knocks loudly on
the door, opens the door and throws the gift into the room or otherwise leaves it behind without
being seen.
Secret Santa events during the Christmas period have developed their own culture and rules. These
naturally depend on the variation on Secret Santa that applies. For instance, Secret Santa raids have
different rules from Trashy Secret Santas and different rules again than Secret Santa flash mobs.

The Banking Concept Of Education, By Richard Rodriguez
Just listen. An individual who takes the guidance of others to heart possesses a priceless quality.
The authority figures in The Banking Concept of Education, by Paulo Freire demonstrate the
pivotal role that educators hold in the educational system. The authority figures in The
Achievement of Desire, by Richard Rodriguez show the impact of educators on an individual
student. Another text called Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior, by Amy Chua illustrates the
specific conditioning that authority figures implement on to students so that they can succeed in
their education. What it means to attain educational success is to fulfill the expectations of authority
figures in a student s education.

Individuals need to have the drive to succeed in education that the authorities believe is necessary
for the individuals to attain educational success. Authority figures don t want students to have poor
qualities like being lazy and self indulgent (Chua 55) that would inhibit their educational abilities.
Instead, they want their students to possess the positive qualities that they would approve of and
would advocate. Many parents believe that To get good at anything you have to work (Chua 52).
Even though the child s mentality may not be focused in this manner, it needs to become this way
by the influencing of the well intentioned parents. An ambitious quality that parent figures want is
for their children to practice, practice, practice (Chua 52) no matter how they feel or want to give
up. The parents mold virtuous qualities like the willingness to do things over and over (Chua 55)
into their child so that he or she can become good at school. This ambition is expected to be
demonstrated within the classroom as well. Authorities like teachers want their students to have the
ambition to complete all of the actions that they desire. A teacher wants a student to have ambition

Child Poverty Is A Harsh Condition
Children in Poverty in Las Vegas
Poverty is a harsh condition which is relentless at any given age. The difference among poverty in
children and poverty in adults is that poverty in children could leave effects impacting the children
for the rest of his life. Southern Nevada, specifically the Las Vegas Valley has one of the highest
rates in children poverty of the nation. According to Talkpoberty.org in the state of Nevadaitself,
one in every four kids live in poverty. The issue of child poverty is one which the majority of
Nevadans don t take into consideration. Child poverty is an issue which affects the children in all
aspects of his life and leaving life lasting impacts.
For more than a decade the state of Nevada has struggled with the issue of poverty in general,
furthermore it has majorly struggled with the issue of child poverty. Ever since the recession of
2008 we have seen increments in the number of poverty in general, in which more children
continue to seem affected. Furthermore the poverty levels seem to continue to increase The
number of children living in poverty in Nevada is at 23 percent, up from 15 percent in 2008 (Rise
in Poverty). The high levels of unemployment in parents seem to be the most influential issue that
sets families under the poverty line. Similarly the number of children whose parents lack stable
jobs has risen 6 points to 32 percent (Rise in Poverty).

Corresponding Themes in Frankenstein and Blade Runner
Ridley Scott s film Blade Runner reflects some of the key themes seen in Mary Shelley s classic
novel Frankenstein. For one, both the sources touch on the necessity of creators taking
responsibility for their creations. Another key theme established in both works is the idea that
emotional complexity and knowledge, over memory and appearance, allow people to be defined as
human beings.
Throughout the novel Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley builds upon the theme that one must take
responsibility for the actions and well being of their creations. Protagonist Victor Frankenstein
consistently toils with the degree of responsibility he owes to the monster he created. Initially,
Frankenstein completely abandons his creation, as the creature notes when he says, Yet you, my
creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature... (Shelley 83). When the monster pleads for a female
counterpart, Victor says, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion... He showed
unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends... (Shelley 200). Victor
fails to sympathize with his creation and fails to understand that all creatures desire something
from their creator. A parallel theme of the disasters that occur when a creator doesn t take
responsibility for its creations can be found in the 1982 film Blade Runner. In this film, Eldon
Tyrell, the creator of the rogue Replicants, takes absolutely no responsibility for the danger he has
created when he relegates the job of

Sociological Influences On Life
Every individual person in this world has many different sociological influences on their life. All
varying from education, religion, friends, and even the workplace. Some people may have a ton of
things that influence their lives and others may only have a few, all depending on that individual. In
my life particularly, the three biggest societal influences are education, family, and lastly my
extracurricular activities.
Education can be a huge part in some cultures, when it can also be a very small part in some
cultures. Our American culture education is huge. Kids spend their lives in school from when
they are four years old in preschool until they are 18 years as a senior in highschool. Those years
are all spent six hours a day five days a week throughout the year. After high school people have
the option to continue their education and go to college if they would prefer to. College may go
upwards to 12 more years depending on the degree that certain individual is pursuing. In our
American Culture it is bad if you don t have a college degree. People tend to think that people that
don t continue to go to college are not as intelligent when really they could be just as smart as
anyone else. There are well over 20 prominent nations, which continue to discriminate against
females by preventing them from learning. In these countries, gender inequality in education not
only stifles the development of women, but also their sense of self worth. In Nepal, only seven

Why Kids Should Break Out Research Paper
My cousin Emmy is a high school student and she stayed with me her entire vacation. Her

vacations were over she had to give an exams and as I predicted, her results were very
disappointing. This is when I started to believe that children should not be given one long vacation
a year because they usually do not study even if there are exams, do unimportant or even bad
things and become lazy. At first, I experienced that long vacations may have negative impacts on
the exams that are planned after the free period. For example, my cousin was supposed to study

An Unknown Girl by Moniza Alvi
An Unknown Girl by Moniza Alvi is a free verse poem about the author s experience getting her
hand hennaed in an Indian bazaar. Throughout the poem, Alvi makes use of structure techniques
like end stopped lines, occasional rhymes, language, imagery, and changes in tone to explore
different aspects of the concept of identity.
Moniza Alvi uses the format of the poem to illustrate how the speaker s identity is split between
East and West. The poem itself is centered in the middle of the page. From what the reader knows
of Moniza Alvi, they can deduce that the centering of the poem is symbolic of her own division
between the Pakistani and Eastern aspects of her identity, and its more pronounced English and
Western aspects. The poem is evenly placed between the two sides of the page, just as the speaker
s identity is divided between Indian and Pakistan, and England. Additionally, the speaker describes
the setting as in an evening bazaar. The evening is a period between the day and the night, with a
mix of both but not fully one or the other. It represents how the speaker herself is between the
identities of the Eastern and Western cultures. At that moment, she is neither fully Eastern, nor
fully Western, like the evening is not fully day, nor fully night.
However, the format of the poem could also be used to underline the grander concept of
globalization and westernization, and the blending of whole countries cultural identities. The
centered poem could represent India, as

The costume choice of this piece expressed that it is deemed appropriate for men to wear what they
want. As for the authoritative movements executed by the men, that represented the power that
men have just because they are men. The women dressed in white projected purity and innocence.
Although, the woman in the red dress was singled out and it seemed as if they were judging her.
Throughout the reading on Pina and Gender, this was labeled othering and after watching the
performance, I completely understood what they meant. The dim and dark atmosphere of the dance
represented that this issue is not addressed and is often left in the dark. The intensity of the music,
facial expressions, and style of movement all influenced my feelings toward the performance.
Bausch s choreography brought new meaning to music and I found that to be true. I felt anger
when the bold music played and the men exerted their presence. As the women danced to the softer
music, I felt empathy for the struggle they were experiencing. The facial expressions of the women
changed dramatically with the presence of the men. The discomfort I felt, I felt with the female

  • 4. Technology In Modern Society Did you know that the average person in this day and age spends nearly 3.9 years of their entire life using some sort of electronical device? In today s modernized society, we are greatly influenced by the uses of what technology has to offer. Not only does it play a key role in most of our lives, but it has revolutionized the way we actually live. Simply look around you and the chances are you will be faced with a wide array of different electronic technologies that have taken over the way we live. The use of modernized technologyis something rather new, but it is here to stay for years to come. This being said, in today s society, we are simply not mentally capable of understanding the true evils of what the use of technology has in storage for us. Technology has drastically changed throughout the years. From beginning with simple tools, to the current creation of mega powered modernized computers capable of endless possibilities and the list goes on. Whether or not one believes in all this technology is hard to say. But one thing is certain, technology has and will continue to control our lives for hundreds upon hundreds of years to come unless we can make a change. But the odds are,we will never change. The problem with technology is that it makes life so much easier. From contacting someone across the world in a matter of minutes with a couple clicks to controlling the minds and privileges of nearly half of the world s population by simply making it rather easy to ... • 5. The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very damaging cons, ideas of self worth and values are being shoved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Representation Of Class And Class Struggle Later theorist like Hall and Chakrabarty assert traditional early social science premised on white patriarchal, male dominated European colonialism and ideology alone, does nott consider the important values of other cultures and the articulation of race in the historical development and Capitalism. Thus they assert that the past, and present practices and histories of other races, cultures and cultures practices thwart the totalizing attempt of the earlier theorist like Gramsci and Bourdieu. Chakrabarty and Hall argue that other societies local as well as cultural practices [Chakrabarty], as well as the articulation of race[Hall], play an intricate part in historical development as they integrate theories of non white, female, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He asserts we must question historicism as an idea thus suggesting that to understand anything it has to be understood as a whole via its historical development (6). Thus, the totalizing theory makes society blind to how local knowledge, different races, and cultures are essential in the development of history. Developing a distinction Marx made between the two kinds of history, Chakrabarty says History 1 is defined as the history of capitalism, and History 2, is defined as the development of human history that does not fit in the metanarrative of History 1 (50). Chakrabarty says Marx totalizing theories argue, that History 2, will ultimately be subsumed by History 1 overall history of capitalism from feudal stages to the present, However Chakrabarty argues that History 2 is not separate from capital. As History 2 inherent in capital but interrupts and punctuates the logic of capitalism (64). Additionally, Marx, (Marxist) Gramsci thinks that History 1 is the real history, while Chakrabarty asserts without History two there would be no History one as history two is charged with the function of constantly interrupting the totalizing thrusts of History 1 (66). Chakrabarty details how Marxist abstract and real labor analogies fails to illustrate their theoretical application in other local and cultures. Therefore, the Western thought of Marxismas with Gramsci doesn t reflect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Hot Topic Research Paper Picture it a middle kids trying to find who they are. Going shopping for the start of the school year had always come with some anxiety. How do I want to portray myself to my other classmates? This middle schooler is more of the nerdy type of kid. He couldn t find any clothes that showed who he is and what he liked. Then one day as he was perusing the mall with his mom. He found this small dark store with this alluring music pouring out of its wooden double doors. It beckoned him into its dark embrace as the music calmed his frantic mind. The kid was enveloped by the wall of character t shirts from PokГ©mon to South Park. His nerdy heart soared when he came across the plethora of pop culture references and funny merchandise. I can honestly say that Hot Topic helped this middle schooler on his journey to finding himself. Although to the average person on the outside the store seems dark and intimidating. Titles of the form gospel according to ... became attached to the canonical Gospels in order to distinguish another writing in a collection; this was a development in the mid to late second century. In addition, when copying collections of writings, scribes had to assign titles to individual Gnostic works. Based on how rarely gospel appears as a title, one would have to conclude that Gnostics had little interest in the specification. Once attributions with no basis in the works themselves are discounted, the number of Gnostic texts entitled gospel shrinks even further. The Valentinian entries, the Gospel of Truth and the Gospel of Philip, have no ties to the genre gospel. Valentinian teachers interpret Gospels that are common property of the larger Christian community. In the remaining cases, both the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Judas have an incipit that employs a different literary designation. A later scribe took the apostle s name from the incipit to create the title. The opening pages of the Gospel of Mary have been lost. Her prominence in the second half of the text may have provided a scribe with the name for a title. None of the Gnostic tractates entitled gospel initially had that designation. Used in the oral sense for preaching a message about salvation revealed through the coming of Jesus, it is the content of their soteriology, not the term that distinguishes Gnostics from other Christians. Used in the mid second century forward for written accounts of Jesus and his teaching commonly circulated among Christians, there is no special Gnostic Gospel. Gnostic teachers rely on the range of gospel traditions being circulated among Christians, with no greater tendency than believers to exploit apocryphal Gospels. In addition, the poetics of the Gnostic universe push its teachers away from imaginative engagement with the historical or physical world such as might produce additional ... • 9. Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler A True Narcissist in Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler Within Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler the protagonist pushes the boundaries of what people are able to do and get away with. Some may consider Hedda to be a true romantic longing for a little excitement but beneath the mask behind which she hides, lies a truly selfish and arrogant woman. Hedda Tesman s dark personallity can be easily observed within her interactions with her husband George Tesman and his aunt Juliana Tesman. Hedda treats her husband very poorly and constantly brings him down. George s wife never shows any sign of affection towards him and is incapable of empathizing with him. The inability to empathize with others can be easily associated with narcissism. When George wishes to show Hedda his slippers she can t even be bothered to take a look and cares not for his feelings. Hedda always wants more from her husband. When George is worried about Eilert competing for his post all Hedda can think about are the horse and butler she won t be given. In her dealings with Miss Tesman, Hedda almost purposefully intends to hurt her. Hedda intentionally mistakes aunt Julia s hat to be the maid s which comes to hurt the poor aunt very badly, however she comes to forgive Hedda quite quickly, General Gabler s daughter is simply allowed to get away with things like these. When she later, tells of the incident to Judge Brack, Hedda explains her behaviour by saying: these impulses just suddenly come over me, and I can t resist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Compare and Contrast the Various Models of Abnormal... Compare and contrast the various models of abnormal functioning using evidence from current psychological research. For many years scientists, including doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists, have been interested in trying to understand human behaviour, in particular behaviour that is described as being abnormal . It is difficult to define abnormal in terms of behaviour because there are many differing descriptions which have radically changed over the years. Abnormal behaviour is widely categorised as being persistent and in a serious degree contrary to the continued wellbeing of the individual and/or the surrounding community. Cultural beliefs and expectations determine which behaviour patterns are deemed as being abnormal .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the psychodynamic model fails to take into consideration the effects of the environment as does the medical model both are concerned with the internal workings and defects. The Psychodynamic model has had a lot of opposition as it is difficult to define and research, as processes like the id, ego and superego operate on an unconscious level and therefore there is no real way of knowing for certain if they are indeed happening. Most of the evidence provided by this model has been individual case studies which in itself makes it difficult to generalise. Whereas the psychodynamic model began looking at the clinical work of physicians the behavioural model began in laboratories experimenting on behavioural conditioning, using stimuli and rewards, observing how their manipulations affected the responses of the individual they were studying. This model unlike the psychodynamic model can be tested and it is because of this that this model holds more weighting than the psychodynamic model when trying to understand abnormal behaviour. However this model is not without its weaknesses as there is no evidence that individuals that display abnormal behaviour are victims of improper conditioning. Behaviourists would argue that abnormal functioning is learnt behaviour, and not environmental or genetic, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Learning To Die In The Anthropocene Book Summary Title Goes Here. Learning to Die in the Anthropocene by Roy Scranton helps humanity learn to survive in the carbon emission created world know as the Anthropocene. Helpful can be defined as offering assistance, which this book does by spreading awareness about global warming, helping the reader learn how to die in the Anthropocene and warning of the lack of action. Learning to Die in the Anthropocene is a helpful book. This book is helpful because it assists in spreading awareness about global warming. Scranton takes a scientific approach to global warming, presenting what will happen, and why, we as the human species, are unlikely to solve it. Scranton writes, climatologists now predict [a rise] in global temperatures 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . A future of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer will mean the arctic ocean will be ice free in the summer . . . warming of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit will eventually lead to sea levels 90 to 200 feet higher. (35 36) Scranton helps the reader understand how drastic a change of seven degrees in global temperature is by explaining how seven degrees colder has affected the planet and how seven degrees warmer will affect the planet. The book is also helpful because it assists with spreading awareness that we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus preventing us from wasting more time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) are common propositions as solutions. However, they have their own problems. Renewable energy sources have problems that revolve around how they are not cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics question whether renewable energy will ever be a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that its cost to energy ratios are simply too high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up and maintain and their energy is not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the problem of cost with renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a new and expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice, CCS is unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that might make a difference. This book is helpful because it spreads awareness of what global warming can cause and why we are unlikely to solve it. However, Scranton does provide the reader with a ... For workers to be both satisfied and happy with their job, some particular motivation qualities have to be present, such as recognition, achievement, responsibility, and organization s advancement. Herzberg had added to the list some physical aspects including salary, physical working conditions, benefits, technical quality supervision, challenging, and company policy (Miller, 2006, p. 32 33). The two characteristics sets must be present for employees to be happy, satisfied and deliver their best, their absence could interpret to workers who are unsatisfied, unhappy and unproductive, as it is in Initech. A good example is when Peter tells Bobs If I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don t see another dime. So where s the motivation? Because staff at Initech do not obtain worthwhile benefits or even see the proceeds of their hard work, which would act as motivator, they fail to feel their achievement or recognition. Moreover, the employees at Initech do not have means for self actualization; they are neither encouraged nor allowed to realize their full potential, which Spitzer (1995, p. 7) argued could be fatal to the future of an organization. He argued that providing the staff with an environment of encouragement will make them realize their full potential consequently increasing the organization s production.

The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of its members, and it has helped produce some of the most successful people in our country. I would like to share to you some great news about today s Greek systems here at the University of Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many Greek students. The Greek communities that have risen across the country have created huge impacts on every university that they have established themselves on. Historically, fraternities were designed for students to discreetly meet to discuss issues and host debates that their members believed would be deemed inappropriate by their collegiate faculties. Since their founding, fraternities and sororities have completely revamped their focuses. They are used as social, professional, and honorary organizations that promote many different combinations of community service, leadership, and academic success. Academically, complacency is the difference between putting in the time and effort to study for a test and shrugging it off with a simple it ll be fine. Playing ultimate complacency looks like not doing another set of dead lifts or accepting a poor decision as acceptable just because it happened to result in a goal because it ll work itself out. One of my main goals for this school year is to rid my life of these complacencies. And, honoring this commitment, I have been doing my work more thoroughly and not just at the last minute and have been pushing myself to become faster and smarter as an ultimate player. But even with this resolution to be better I am still complacent in those aspects of my life and will continue to be imperfect as long as I continue to be human. But, as I have learned throughout my time at Carleton, more specifically this term (and even more specifically the second half of this term) I am complacent in the way I view justice in this country. There are powerful forces that shape our criminal justicesystem that I have always vaguely known existed and have always vaguely understood that they are inherently and systematically racist. Cannonball Jellyfish Research Paper Stomolophus meleagris, also known as the cannonball jellyfish, can often and most frequently be found off the shorelines of countries bordering the Pacific Ocean preferably in water temperatures close to 74 degrees Fahrenheit. It is part of the kingdom Animalia and located in the phylum Cnideria. The jellyfishgets its name because it possesses radial symmetry and because of its bell, which can range up to seven inches in diameter. Colors of this jellyfish slightly vary between clear and a gradual light to dark brown color. They have circular muscles on the underside of their bell which contract and allow it to propel itself through the water, as well as keep it upright. Cannonball jellyfish can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Sexual reproduction starts when the male jellyfish spews its sperm into the water, which is received by the female jelly. Although these Gods varied between ethnicities and religions, the general idea of a creator is consistent. While a constant flow of people coming to America seems like a great idea to most, President elect Trump thinks the U.S need to limit the people it let in. During his campaign he said he would repeal DACA and kick out all illegal immigrants. His thought process behind this is that it will free up jobs for Americans. However, this did not stop some Japanese from setting up comfort stations using Chinese women. These unofficial comfort stations were not given approval from higher Japanese authority. • 30. Diversity in Three Voices Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures, individuals informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness or human equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact. Diversity is defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities (Parvis, 2005, p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but this concept was a perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white, prominent settlers. Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For example, male versus female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign or domestic, republican versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus Latino, Cherokee Indian versus Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could encompass several more pages. We can deny that differences exist or we can consent to differences while discovering from others the assets of dissimilarity. The European Commission has extended the programme to 2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a greater focus on remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than a standardised view on Europe s past, is argued for. 2.The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism. These two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the European project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the right to individual self determination. The traditional investigative methods employed to solve serial crimes is on the basis of the theoretical principle of psychology; by analyzing the cognitive processes of the offender and the role of the target rather than the nature of the situation. However, this reactive approach disregards the extent to which environmental factors are able to manipulate the offender s behavior leading up to the criminal act. This memoir serves as a primary source that truly displays the horrors, conditions, and attitude that were felt by the soldiers that fought in the Pacific. This memoir examines the hardships that were felt by the Marines. As I got further into the book, I saw the changes in his character, integrity, and morality. I believe that the chapter titles surely represent the characteristics and feelings involved in the book. Making a Marine, Assault into Hell, Of Mud and Maggots are just some of chapters that provide the essence and foresight of the book. Making a Marine is a very ambiguous title for a chapter. Making a Marine does not just stand for a man in uniform. Making a Marine describes the blood, sweat, and tears that these brave men go through to serve their country. You people are recruits. It s also important to know that Edmonton still needs a captain and I personally think John Scott would be an excellent fit because he is able to lead his team to the playoffs, or close in this case. In contrast, a representative democracy happens when the people elect a representative who proposes laws for them and a group of government officials vote to pass or reject the law, which is similar to the current government of the United Statesof America. Not all of the positions for government offices are filled through an election; many are filled simply by an important government official deciding who gets the job. This correlates with the issue mentioned previously about bias. In the United States of America, the seats for the Supreme Court are filled by the President rather than an election. Therefore, if the President is very conservative, he will appoint judges to the Supreme Court who have rulings which contain more conservative than liberal ideas. In addition, many other governmental posts are filled with people who are liked by those in higher positions. This proves one of the biggest arguments against a representative government. Even though people choose the representatives, there are so many positions that are filled without an election, the people don t actually have a voice in the selection process. But the biggest benefit of a direct democracy is that the people actually get a say instead of appointing a representative and hoping that the representatives won t end up being close minded to the needs of all the people. Also, because the people will actually get a say, then there won t always be complaints that someone didn t get a voice. For one, both the sources touch on the necessity of creators taking responsibility for their creations. Another key theme established in both works is the idea that emotional complexity and knowledge, over memory and appearance, allow people to be defined as human beings. Throughout the novel Frankenstein, author Mary Shelley builds upon the theme that one must take responsibility for the actions and well being of their creations. Protagonist Victor Frankenstein consistently toils with the degree of responsibility he owes to the monster he created. Initially, Frankenstein completely abandons his creation, as the creature notes when he says, Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature... (Shelley 83). When the monster pleads for a female counterpart, Victor says, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion... He showed unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends... (Shelley 200). Victor fails to sympathize with his creation and fails to understand that all creatures desire something from their creator. A parallel theme of the disasters that occur when a creator doesn t take responsibility for its creations can be found in the 1982 film Blade Runner. Moniza Alvi uses the format of the poem to illustrate how the speaker s identity is split between East and West. The poem itself is centered in the middle of the page.
