Write An Essay On Anthrax
Bacillus anthracis, more widely known as anthrax is an infectious disease that is caused by a gram
positive, bacillus shaped bacteria. See Appendix 2 for an image of the bacteria. It is naturally found in
soil and commonly affects domestic and wild animals. Inhaling or ingesting spores from contaminated
plants, soil, or water is how animals generally get infected. Humans can be infected in 4 different
manners. When anthrax gets inside the body, the spores are activated and they then multiply, spread
throughout the body, and produce toxins that cause severe illness. Anthrax is not contagious therefor it
cannot be caught like the common cold or flu.
Anthrax is considered to have originated in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Some scholars be lieve that
during the 10 plagues of Egypt, the fifth plague was due to anthrax. The sickness that occurred in the
fifth plagued the grazing livestock such as horses, cattle, sheep, camels and oxen. It is even suggested
that anthrax is partially responsible for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the antibiotics for anthrax are administered intravenously in a hospital. When anthrax spores
get inside the body, they will be activated . Once they are activated , the bacteria will grow and
multiply. During the process of growth they produce toxins that are the main cause of severe illness.
When antitoxins are used to treat patients, it must be coupled with other treatment options. There is a
vaccine available for anthrax that comes in a 5 shot grouping over 18 months. The vaccine is
recommended for members of the United States Military, laboratory workers who come in contact
with anthrax and people who handle animals or animal products on a regular basis such as
veterinarians. The vaccine is currently only provided to those who have an increased risk of coming
into contact with anthrax spores. It is not permitted for anyone under the age of 18 or over the age of
65 as well as during or pregnant

A Brief Note On An Accidental Racial War
An Accidental Racial War.
An accidental fight started at school to where no parties were at fault until a circle was formed around
us showing all the students that I am white and she is black. The school was enjoying a festival
watching a talent show when a girl behind me accidently spilled her nachos on to my head, this may
have started a fight against many students primarily of opposite races and I was to blame.
I went to a public Junior High School in Long beach, CA. This was a very culturally diversified
school; the students had their clicks, as most students would call them. This is typically groups of
people of the same interests: jocks, nerds, rebels, hippies and groups of the same racial background:
African American, Caucasian, Filipino, Korean, Hispanic, or Samoan. The whole school was treated
to a festival with good food, music, games and a talent show showcasing student performers. Some of
the performers played instruments, acted out dramas, or danced. The festival was outside in the food
court area, where we typically have lunch. It was a warm day and I was sitting by myself in a crowd of
students watching the talent show. My legs were crossed on the floor, however, feeling a bit bored I
decided to wrap the straps of my backpack around my legs tangling them. The talent show was
coming to an end and the DJ started to play some music.
When all of a sudden, the teacher announced on the microphone anyone wants to come up on stage!?
The crowd jumped up and ran

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnet 43
How do I love thee? The infamous Sonnet 43 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning is both thought
provoking and lovely, with a somewhat melancholy undertone. How has this small poem shaped the
way we as a human race view love, and how is it that most of us know those first few powerful lines
by memory? Love, of course, it a life changing coarse altering step that nearly everyone strives for.
With millions of songs, films, and plays all shouting out their desperation for love and mutual
affection, it s no wonder that when this small poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning is uttered, many of
us know the words by heart or are at least familiar. Love plays such a role in our day to day lives that
Browning knew it had to be put into words. The melancholy

What Does It Mean To Be Free
We can all recall that time between graduating high school and beginning our freshman year of
college. For many people, myself included, going to college meant a chance to finally escape that
small town that we called home. The summer began to come to a close, and we could hardly contain
our excitement to finally start our new adventure. College began, classes and homework took over our
lives, and we made new friends and experienced many memories with them. Unfortunately, all good
things must come to an end, right? While most of my newfound classmates opted to go back to their
home towns for the summer, I ve decided to stay in my cozy college town, much to my parents
disdain. It is wonderful, yet bittersweet to not have to go back to that boring ... Show more content on

I am free. I am free to make my own decisions. I am free to spend the money that I have earned on
whatever I felt like, even though most of it goes towards paying for rent and food. College tends to
create a false sense of being free . It may be true that we are free to do whatever we want, however,
the anxiety and stress caused by attempting to balance homework, practicing, a social life, a healthy
diet, a halfway decent sleep schedule, and thousands of other factors often would lead to our decisions
practically already being made for us. With meals and a bed provided for us, it can be difficult to
actually feel like you are on your own. By choosing to live in my college town over the summer, I
made the choice that I will have to provide for myself. I have to stay healthy by buying actual food
and drinks, not just going to the drive thru at McDonalds every time I m hungry. I have to make sure I
pay electric bills, wifi bills, and water bills, to establish that I have a comfortable living space. At first,
I didn t know if I could actually be fiscally responsible enough to save my money and actually make
my monthly payments on rent and utilities on time, but that was the best

How People Cope With Loss Research Paper
How do People Cope with Loss? Dealing with loss affects an individual physically and emotionally.
Loss can take a huge toll on anybody. When we talk about loss we are not just talking about the death
of a person, but loss of a job or a divorce. People cope with loss in various ways. There are more than
just physical and emotional affects that loss can have on a person but these are the main affects that
we hear the most about. When people talk about the physical effects of loss they think of abnormal
sleeping patterns, eating disorders, and lack of self care or hygiene. People who have lost a loved one

The Development of an Artificial Life based Software...
The behavior of a solution or a service can be analyzed by taking into account the interaction between
the components of the software. These interactions can be analyzed by developing a framework based
on Artificial Life. This calls for the development of an Artificial Life based Software Ecosystem
model. This paper proposes a framework using Artificial Life in the Software Ecosystem. In order to
find the gaps in the existing methodologies, extensive literature review has been carried out. It was
found that the interest in the topic has been on the increase and the advent of professional Ecosystems
has helped popularizing the phenomenon. However, the present framework do not use the data related
to evolution of the Software for later stages. The proposed methodology would pave way of Artificial
Life in Software Ecosystem.
1. INTRODUCTION A Software Ecosystem (SE) considers developers, clients, operating system,
underlying hardware and other peripheral components. A SE considers the concept of evolution of the
software in the same way as the evolution of a natural ecosystem. It has been pointed out by many
researchers that considering the system s evolution would lead to a better and comprehensive analysis
of the software which would ultimately help in management and development of new versions. The
point can be understood by the following analogy. If we consider that evolution of a human being,
then what humans have done in order to achieve, what they have been able to

Religion In Elizabeth Gaskell s Mary Barton
Religion plays a huge role throughout Elizabeth Gaskell s Mary Barton. The significance of religion is
experienced in all the characters and its consequence especially on John Barton, after he murders
Harry Carson, is immense and consequential. During the first half of the novel, John Barton is the
noble hero fighting for the working class, despite going through numerous sufferings throughout his
life. However, by the end of the novel he is no longer a noble hero but rather a deplorable person that
has fallen from grace. This paper will examine the effects of religion in the downfall of John Barton
and visualize the possible outcome if those effects were absent, or at the very least, minimal. John
Barton, the father of Mary Barton, is one of the key characters in the novel. It is important to note that
when Elizabeth Gaskell was writing this novel, she envisioned him as the main character. In her letter
to Mrs. W. R. Greg early in 1849, she wrote, John Barton was the original title of the book. Round the
character of John Barton all the others formed themselves; he was my hero, the person with whom all
my sympathies went . . . (355). It was only through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Data gathering, reviewing, and analyzation is a very important step in an effective evaluation or
assessment process. The outcome as well as any subsequent suggestions are based on the data and
review provided during the initial process. Guerra Lopez (2008) emphasized that the success of an
evaluation process is contingent upon five particular aspects about data and data sources: 1) data
relevance, 2) data collection, 3) evaluating data, 4) data reporting, and 5) avoiding data errors. These
five items contribute to an improved method and technique to build a better performance evaluation

specifically, Guerra Lopez (2008) claimed that an organizations internal sources of data input are often
used as a means to identify prior performance and assessments needs and results. These sources
identified by Guerra Lopez are as follows.
Strategic plan: Management s source for communicating the organization s vision, business plan,
goals, and objectives. Describes the organizations prior outcomes and outlook for the future of the
company.
Annual reports: Identifies the immediate and potential future financial standing for the organization.
Project plans: List individual areas of concentration that connect directly with the organization s
overall strategic plan. It compartmentalizes the objectives of different divisions within the
organization based on function and potential.
Consulting studies: An independent study focused on a narrow window of assessment. These studies
are not evaluations in that they are not geared towards measuring the outcome of a program or event
but instead they are formed to review processes without labeling or assigning judgment or
measurements.

Mood In The Raven
The Raven is the most famous of Poe s poems, notable for its melodic and dramatic qualities. The
meter of the poem is mostly trochaic octameter, with eight stressed unstressed two syllable feet per
lines. Combined with the predominating ABCBBB end rhyme scheme and the frequent use of internal
rhyme, the trochaic octameter and the refrain of nothing more and nevermore give the poem a musical
lilt when read aloud. Poe also emphasizes the O sound in words such as Lenore and nevermore in
order to underline the melancholy and lonely sound of the poem and to establish the overall
atmosphere. Finally, the repetition of nevermore gives a circular sense to the poem and contributes to
what Poe termed the unity of effect, where each word and line adds to the larger meaning of the poem.

He thinks occasionally of Lenore but is generally able to control his emotions, although the effort
required to do so tires him and makes his words equally slow and outwardly pacified. However, over
the course of the narrative, the protagonist becomes more and more agitated both in mind and in
action, a progression that he demonstrates through his rationalizations and eventually through his
increasingly exclamation ridden monologue. In every stanza near the end, however, his exclamations
are punctuated by the calm desolation of the sentence Quoth the Raven, Nevermore, reflecting the
despair of his

Titration Of Hcl Lab Report
For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to determine the
unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a
standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1
HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl
sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of
deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pH probe, the deionized water s pH reading
would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were
slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions
being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings.
The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout
the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the
titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd
derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this
same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the
equivalence point. This is the point where all of the H+ was neutralized by OH . The endpoint is
where the indicator, phenolphthalein, changed color based on pH. The color

The Great Gatsby And 1984 Analysis
Karl Marx s theory of Marxism suggest that the authority of the bourgeoisie comes from their control
over the means of production in. In order to perpetuate their wealth and disguise their corrupt interior,
they must oppress and exploit the proletariat through false consciousness. Both Scott Fitzgerald s The
Great Gatsby and George Orwell s 1984 establishes societies that explores the Capitalism and
Totalitarianism. George Orwell does that by setting 1984 in a futuristic totalitarian regime where the
proletariat is under absolute control by the Party in order to eternalize their power over its citizens.

Although liquor is prohibited for production except for medical usage, alcoholic beverages are still

alcohol at the corners of every street signify the limited control the American government has over the
actions of its citizens. In other words, the citizens of The Great Gatsby are free to challenge the
authorities who enforce the laws. In addition to the strict surveillance used to control the state of

Bullying At The State Of Nevada
We all might still recall back to our school days and the bully on the playground making recess
intolerable for some; or perhaps in the lunch room bully who helped themselves to our desserts. That
bully might have ended up in the principal s office, but likely not much more became of them. Bullies
have always been around, but now they have changed their preferred tactics. With the growth of
technology making our ordinary lives simpler, criminals and bullies have also used technology to aid
them in their transgressions. Many bullies have advanced to become cyber bullies and their chosen
scare tactic makes use of computers, cellular phones, or some other type of communications device.
What then is the actual definition of the act of bullying? Bullying in the State of Nevada is defined as
carrying out actions that may be highly offensive to a reasonable person and intended to cause the
student to suffer harm or serious emotional distress (Cyberbully tactics are focus of state law, 2010).
Cyber bullying elsewhere is bullying by means of electronic communication (Cyberbully tactics are
focus of state law, 2010). In Texas, bullying means engaging in written or verbal expression or
physical conduct that will physically harm another student or student s property, or is persistent
enough to create an intimidating or threatening educational environment for a student (Grobe, 2012).
These definitions are typical of those used in other states. Advances in

Analysis Of Dramatic Irony In Marlowe
C
hristopher Marlowe has been characterized by various critics as a subjective playwright, one whose
passions are reflected in the passions of his characters. Michel Poirier states that Marlowe s mind is
spurred on by a passion similar to the one he has ascribed to some of the characters in his dramas.
Poirier concludes that there is a definite connection between Marlowe s temperament and ideas. His
desires govern his thoughts and his passions are the basis for his philosophy. Poirier considers that
egotism is at the centre of his life and works. Paul Kocher goes so far as to say that Marlowe s degree
of subjectivity as a dramatist is the most important problem of all interpretation of his work. Kocher
further notes that any theory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
R. B. Sharpe defines irony as an attitude, a temper, a spirit in which one looks at life and art. It brings
to light and emphasizes by art the contradictions of living. G. G. Sedgewick gives the following
definition of dramatic irony: Dramatic irony, in brief, is the sense of contradiction felt by spectators of
a drama who see a character acting in ignorance of his condition. This is dramatic irony in its
concentrated and specific form: it grows ... out of that pervasive and controlling knowledge which we
have called general irony and which is the property peculiar and essential to the illusion of the theatre.
Sharpe s and Sedgewick s definitions of irony and dramatic irony are especially meaningful when one
considers Marlowe s plays. The plays contain many contradictions of life contradictions between what
appears to be truth and what is truth, between aspiration and achievement, between speech and action.
And Marlowe s characters consistently act ignorant of their conditions. In Tamburlaine, Faustus,
Edward, Mortimer, Barabas, Guise, Dido, and other minor characters, Marlowe has created characters
in whom every speech and action involve ironic undertones resulting from this ignorance. This irony
establishes an objective position on the part of the playwright, thus, irony allowing Marlowe to

problem. However, disputes still remain in the legal academia in regard to the actual efficiency of the

The Plain English Movement, while achieving in making legal documents shorter and spreading a new
draft ing system throughout the world, is not effective as expected. The linguistic shortcoming makes
it impossible for Plain English to be compatible with the logic of law. This essay is not arguing that
Plain English movement is bad, but merely analyses its defects at present. The idea behind the Plain
English Movement is highly endorsed owing to its effort to enhance public understanding of legal
documents.

Community Options Advantages And Disadvantages
Advantages The organization I decided to survey was United Community options of Miami. UCO of
Miami is a Non Profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. UCO has a day
program for adults where they can participate in recreational activities, go on excursions and also offer
adults with disabilities employment skills training. United Community options was established in
1947 and has always aimed to being accessible for people with disabilities. The first thing I notice
when I entered the parking lot was that UCO had four accessible parking spots and out of those four
spots two are van accessible. They also have accessible drop off areas and accessible routes to get to
the entrance. The front door which is 64 inches wide is automatic and stays open until the person
passes through. The front door leads to the lobby which is very wide and has enough space for people
that use wheel chairs to enter without obstruction getting in the way. The whole building is leveled and
doesn t require ramps for the front entrance. Once past the front lobby there are a sequence of
hallways you can take in order to get where you want to. Most of the hall ways measure from 59
inches to 84 inches wide and are leveled. Most objects like fire extinguishers or drinking fountains or
signs protrude no more then four inches from the wall. United Community Options of Miami is a one
floor building and doesn t required the need to use elevators of any kind to access the

Symbolism In The Thief
The Thief and the Stalinist Period
As a movie depicting the Stalinist period, The Thief eloquently wrapped a historical and political
portrayal in an emotional journey of Sanya, Katya, and Tolyan. Some important aspects of the movie
that provide a strong nuance of the Stalinist era are the financial struggle among commoners, the
positive attitude towards Stalin, and the paternalistic emphasis. Additionally, some indirect symbolism
in the movie may portray the relationship between Stalin and Russians during the Stalinist period.
Financial struggle was the emphasis early in the movie, portraying how difficult life could be during
the Stalinist period. In the beginning of the movie, Katya gave birth to Sanya. While this might
symbolize the start of Sanya s story and life, the scene also signified how the lack of wealth made pain
and suffering dominate the life of the characters.
As the movie continued, this hardship seemed to permeate into the life ... Show more content on

Moving beyond the storyline, The Thief offered three main characters that could represent the Russian
society in the Stalinist period by through their images and attitudes. Aside from retelling a story of
fatherhood, The Thief indirectly symbolized the legacy of Stalin with its political failure and
destructive impacts (Gillespie 75).
To summarize, The Thief can symbolize Stalinist era in two ways. Using the values portrayed in the
movie, it showed the significance of financial struggle, Stalin s popularity, and paternalistic views
during the Stalinist period. Additionally, it can also represent the complicated relationship between
Stalin and the Russian people using the views and behaviors of its main characters: Tolyan, Sanya, and

One is the adequacy of the research itself. In view of the extent of the research, and the high
proportion of negative ļ¬ndings, this seems unlikely to be fruitful. I will deal with it here cursorily.
Another is the appropriateness of the research to the nature of the theory. In this respect I argue that it
is the sort of theory which is not easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and Bridwell accept. This
would usually be seen as a shortcoming. I here argue that, on the contrary, it is one of the qualities
which gives the theory its power. The third ground is that the theory itself can be reļ¬ned. A series of

The Article Relational Leadership By James Freeman
The article titled Relational Leadership written by James Freeman takes a look at the impact of Child
and Youth Workers in the lives of youth, specifically the work of Brian Gannon. Brian Gannon is an
experienced Youth Worker who took on a leadership role at St. Johns Hostel in Cape Town, South
Africa in 1967, at the age of twenty seven. St. Johns consisted of sixty four boys, with many of them
left alone in the aftermath of World War I along with the influenza epidemic. Outside of the care
provided for the boys, the program offered them a life parallel to anyone living in the city. Activities
such as afternoon sports, free time and contact with friends and family outside of the institution were
provided and endorsed by the institution for the boys. Gannon s approach to working with youth
focused on the following things highlighted in the article: creating smaller living groups for the boys,
less regimented routines, more experiences of childhood and adolescence in everyday life, and a focus
on developing meaningful relationships with one another (Freeman, 2015, p. 37). In other words,
Gannon s main goal was to lead and guide the youth so that they are given an equal chance at
succeeding in life. Gannon is also a co founder of CYC Net where he has published a collection of
approximately two hundred child and youth care practice hints, each hint containing a background
theory and a how to element. The article then analyzes an excerpt from the works of Gannon,

it only made a $0.3m profit. More recently the film has become known as one of the greatest movies
of all time, it has inspired hope in many people, helping them to lose weight, leave abusive marriages
and such like. The film is based mainly upon two convicts, and the idea of hope. Andy Dufresne is a
Hot Shot Banker imprisoned with two life sentences, for the suspected murder of his wife and her
lover and Red (Morgan Freeman) whom Andy redeems hope in, along with the other convicts, saving
them from institutionalisation. One of the ways in which Andy saves himself is by making projects for

Red is very reluctant to accept hope, even stating in the film Hope is a dangerous thing; hope can
drive a man insane and this is expressed through shadows cast on him whilst Andy is shown in the
light. This idea of hopelessness exaggerates the redemption of hope expressed later on in the film, an
example of this is right at the very start of the film when the man is beaten so badly by the prison
guards that he dies, Andy s asks a key question that nobody can answer; What was his name? . This
hopelessness is then contrasted when the friendships are formed later on in the film, when everybody
becomes close, which is confirmed when Andy bargains with the guards and consequently wins three
bottles of beer for each of his work mates. Andy s friends and he are regularly shown laughing
together or helping one another to cope, Darabont successfully reflects hope into the eyes of the
viewer through these friendships. Gestures such as the harmonica illuminate this point when Red
begins to create music. Music is constantly used in the film as an icon of hope; it is used throughout
the whole film in various different ways, to express and exaggerate different emotions that the
characters are feeling. We are able to track the change of emotions and the feelings towards the idea of
hope that the convicts in Shawshank have, making the build up of hope increasingly noticeable to the
viewer. The main use of Music

The History of Darwinā€™s Theory of Evolution
Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution.
(Dobzhanski, 1973)
It was during his journey on board the Beagle that Darwin developed his theory of evolution. On the
Origin of Species (Darwin, 1859) proposed two main principles: evolution really occurs and natural
selection is its mechanism. This work published on 24th November 1859 traces a coherent portrait of
life bringing together in an orderly manner an astonishing variety of apparently independent facts. It
led biologists to concentrate on the diversity of organisms, their origins and their relation, their
similarities and their differences, their geographical distribution and their adaptation to various
environments.
Darwin (1859) arrived at two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The need for food fashions the animal model.

of the creatures to supply the want of food and to have been delivered to their posterity with constant
improvement of them for the purposes required (Darwin, 1794 1796: section 39, Of generations ).
Finally the need for safety intervenes specifically in the specific shaping of the legs which enables
animals to be more adapted to flee.
However, this large visionary misses the mechanism which would make it possible to explain these
adaptations.
Jean Baptiste Lamarck
Jean Baptiste Lamarck presented his theory on the transformation of species for the first time in 1800
in his Discours d Ouverture de l an VIII . He proposed:
The animals most imperfect, simply organized, those suspected in a world hardly endowed with
animality, are perhaps those by which nature began when, with a lot of time and favourable
circumstances, it has wrought all the other (Lamarck, 1801: 12).
For Lamarck, it was habits and environmental factors which influenced the evolution of the
morphology of animals. With new shapes, new abilities are gained, and over time nature arrives to
where it is now.

Religious Literacy Prothero Chapter Summaries

Introduction to Comparative Religion
Mr. Hyrcza
10 November 2016
Analysis of Religious Literacy In Stephen Prothero s Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs
to Know and Doesn t (New York: Harper Collins Publishers, 2008) 1 372, Prothero discusses how the
American society was once a religiously literate nation, how we became religiously illiterate, and how
(if willing) we can become religiously literate again. Prothero states that this book argues for both the
constitutionality and the necessity of teaching about religion in public schools and higher education.
He further explains that the main goal of this piece is to help citizens participate fully in social,
political, and economic life in a nation and world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But his passion is also his downfall. By allowing his piece to be mainly background information,
Prothero can make his audience feel as if he is beating in information into their heads while losing
sight of the original argument. Stylistically, he also provides too many subsections with rough
transitions that can leave the audience to be temporarily confused on where he is going with his
argument. Stephen Prothero s Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know and Doesn t,
can be a difficult read, as there are several passages which require numerous rereads in order to
understand. However, there is an occasional sentence or two that provides an interesting insight.
Stephen Prothero s Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know and Doesn t, is not
suggested for audiences who are easily offended by different viewpoints of religion. This is also not
recommended as a light quick read due the complexity and confusion of the author s argument.

Standard Argument Against The Identity Theory
1. Introduction
In the present essay, I will refute the standard argument of multiple realization against the identity
theory of mind. The currently predominant view in philosophy of mind is that mental states are
multiply realized by distinct physical states; this is the first premise of the standard argument. The
second premise states that multiple realization is inconsistent with the identity theory. It therefore
concludes that the identity theory is false. This essay will challenge both premises of the standard
argument. Initially allowing the first premise, I will argue that multiple realization is not conceptually
inconsistent with the identity theory. To achieve this, I will outline the enduring relevance of Lewis
critique and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Challenging the Second Premise of the Standard Argument
As alluded to earlier, there is a common distinction drawn in the literature between two types of
multiple realization. The first type states that the same psychological states are realized across distinct
physical structures via distinct mechanisms. In other words, any species that plausibly experiences
mental state, MĀ”, experience the same type of mental state, MĀ”, via distinct physical type structures
and MĀ” is thus multiply realized. Lewis (1969) influentially argued that this is not inconsistent with
the identity theory of mind however.
Lewis emphasises the importance of context and the relativity it grants the claims of the identity
theorist. To illustrate the point I will use the universally employed example of pain in conjunction with
the now defunct notion of C fibre firing, and a hypothetical notion of D fibre firing. Consider the
following three statements:
1. There is only one physical realization of the mental state pain.
2. The mental state of pain is realized by and identical to the firing of C fibres in the central nervous

Immersion Reflection Paper
A recent experience of mine that has made a significant impact on who I am today would be my
joining of open immersion. Immersion has always been a tradition of my school, Assumption College,
for many years. This became one of many reasons why I decided that I d like to take part of this
tradition before I graduate and leave my more than a decade long alma mater. I also chose to volunteer
because I saw this as a good opportunity to render community service and fulfill my social
responsibility as a student in the Assumption community.
However, I had underestimated how this journey would impact my own identity. I entered this odyssey
without much prior knowledge on what would happen and what exactly we would be doing. The
immersion took place in the small community in Barrio Obrero, Iloilo. Our volunteer group,
consisting of only five high school students and a couple of teacher chaperones, was based in a public
learning center called the Assumption Socio Educational Center (ASEC), which was founded by the

A series of significant events in Australian history leading up to Federation in 1901 brought both
positive and negative changes. The two sides of this arch contrast the successes and failures involved

Vincent Willem Van Gogh was a Dutchman born on March 30, 1853 in Groot Zundert, Netherlands.
The Starry Night is one of Van Gogh s famous paintings in the world. It was believed that his painting
was the view from his bedroom window. After a petition was signed saying Vincent Van Gogh was
dangerous, they moved him to an asylum. He lived in a hospital where he suffered occasional relapse
into delusions. While he was there, he was able to read, paint and withdraw from his room. As he was
going through depression, Van Gogh then began to have hallucinations and even have thoughts of
suicide. His art helped him stay emotionally balanced. He then started to paint The Starry Night, and
used dark colors. For example, in the painting he clearly paints all the buildings dark and black and
paints the stars and the moon brighter to make it stand out more. In his painting, he included a cypress
tree which is usually found in cemeteries and represent mourning. There were rumors about his death,
saying he had died because his illness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He suffered from many types of psychotic attacks, epilepsy, and delusions. While he was at home, he
mutilated his ear and offered it to a prostitute as a gift. Van Gogh then was transferred to a hospital
where we was able to paint and draw, but not for long periods of time without having an attack. On
May 8, 1889, Van Gogh began to paint in the hospital gardens. Everyday in the asylum, he would
finish a painting one at a time. According to The Net Impact (2015) in the article Vincent Van Gogh:
Later Years, Vincent viewed his life as horribly wasted, personally failed and impossible (para. 10).
Later, he went out to paint in the morning, but carried a loaded pistol and attempted suicide by

Giovanni Pico della Mirandola was an Italian humanist,...
Giovanni Pico della Mirandola was an Italian humanist, philosopher, scholar, Neo Platonist and writer
whose main passion was the reconciliation of philosophy and religion. Giovanni Pico della Mirandola
was born on the 24th of February 1463 to a wealthy and illustrious family and died on the 17th of
November 1494. Being the youngest son of three boys, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola was mostly
outlived by his elder brothers who took on presumably significant roles; his brother Antonio became
an imperial army general while Galeotto 1 continued their father s dynasty. Leaving behind his share
of ancestral wealth and principality, he went on to become one of the world s respected writers after
fully devoting himself to studying theology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then changed course and went to the University of Ferrara to study philosophy. He then continued
his studies from 1480 to 1482 at the University of Padua that was well known for Aristotelianism
where he studied Arabic and Hebrew. He spent the next few years visiting other humanist centers and
the University of Paris which was Europe s most significant center for scholastic theology and
philosophy (Craven, 1981).
Giovanni s movement to Florence marked a big change in his life especially regarding his
philosophical career. In Florence, around 1484 he met Ficino Marsilio and Lorenzo de Medici. Ficino,
a renaissance philosopher who was about to publish translations of Plato s works from Greek to Latin
under the supervision of Lorenzo. (Edelheit, 2008). Later on he briefly moved to Perugia where he
was introduced to Hebrew Kabbalah. It is this Kabbalistic doctrine he used to support Christian
theology becoming the first Christian to do so. After travelling to Rome, Giovanni invited scholars
from all over Europe to Rome to debate and defend his 900 theses drawn from Latin, Greek, Hebrew
and Arabic writers. 13 of these were however denounced as heretical by a papal commission and
prohibited assembly.
Giovanni Pico della Mirandola decided to flee to France despite his apologia for the 13 theses where
he was arrested. After his release he went back to settle in Florence. He settled in a villa prepared for
him by Lorenzo near

The Rise Of The Roman And Ottoman Empires
With every empire that ever existed, there were highs and lows that contributed to their rise as well as
their fall in power each one somehow contributing to the rise of the next empire. Three great empires
that are perfect examples of this are the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires. Regarding the rise
and fall of these empires, there were differences that set them apart, however, there are several
similarities that merit a thorough examination, with the Roman Empire having the greatest influence
on society today. Factors that contributed to the rise of the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires
involve the following: some sort of unification whether it be political or geographical; a strong army;
and expansion. During Augustus Caesar s rule of the Roman Empire, he brought political stability to
his people by defeating Rome s enemies, and preserving aristocracy, the Senate, the elected Roman
magistracy, and Roman citizenship (Wallech et al., 2013). In the Mongolian Empire, Temujin, known
later as Genghis Khan, also defeated all his rivals and became the leader of Mongolian tribes (May,
2008). Under his rule, the tribes of Mongolia were unified into a single supra tribe also known as the
All Mongol State (May, 2008). The Ottoman Empire attracted and united those who roamed across the
Middle East searching for means to gain their livelihoods and seeking to fulfill their religious desire to
expand the territory of Islam (Yapp Shaw, 2017). All three empires also

The plan for increasing non members in members or season pass holders is very simple. The members
and season pass holders are aloud all access to the club. They can use everything they need and want.
They also take priority on tee times, dinner reservations, and new items coming into the Pro Shop.
When non members see they are not eligible to use the Club House, pool, and all other amenities, we
hope they will want to join this excellent Club. We provide non members with beverage and snack
machines outside of the clubhouse to provide basic needs.

Comparing Martin Luther King Jr. And Pay It Forward
A hero is defined as a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities (Merriam
Webster). It is also is stated that the hero is typically a man. As a woman, I am greatly offended.
Joseph Campbell, however, is less sexist and defines a hero as someone who makes a sacrifice in
order to complete an action. Martin Luther King Jr. sacrificed his life and his family s life while he
was marching the streets against the discrimination of African Americans. Benefitting from his actions
and sacrifice is every colored person in America at that time and since. Martin Luther King Jr. is a
magnificent hero. According to Campbell, Hitler was also an extraordinary hero. Hitler sacrificed his
life and reputation in order to murder and torture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This song could have, and most likely did, cause a bit of controversy. The Black Eyed Peas risked, and
sacrificed, losing their fans and bad publicity. The demand for love over how the world is today could
strike anger in many people. They ask for honesty from the media, new and profound values of
humanity, and for fairness in equality in their lyrics. They risk their fans and reputation but they
benefit the ears and hearts of those hoping for the same. They give hope to those wishing for a better
world as well. They call out to God, our Father, for guidance from above because they are unsure how
they are expected to live in a world like this

  • 3. A Brief Note On An Accidental Racial War An Accidental Racial War. An accidental fight started at school to where no parties were at fault until a circle was formed around us showing all the students that I am white and she is black. The school was enjoying a festival watching a talent show when a girl behind me accidently spilled her nachos on to my head, this may have started a fight against many students primarily of opposite races and I was to blame. I went to a public Junior High School in Long beach, CA. This was a very culturally diversified school; the students had their clicks, as most students would call them. This is typically groups of people of the same interests: jocks, nerds, rebels, hippies and groups of the same racial background: African American, Caucasian, Filipino, Korean, Hispanic, or Samoan. The whole school was treated to a festival with good food, music, games and a talent show showcasing student performers. Some of the performers played instruments, acted out dramas, or danced. The festival was outside in the food court area, where we typically have lunch. It was a warm day and I was sitting by myself in a crowd of students watching the talent show. My legs were crossed on the floor, however, feeling a bit bored I decided to wrap the straps of my backpack around my legs tangling them. The talent show was coming to an end and the DJ started to play some music. When all of a sudden, the teacher announced on the microphone anyone wants to come up on stage!? • 5. What Does It Mean To Be Free We can all recall that time between graduating high school and beginning our freshman year of college. For many people, myself included, going to college meant a chance to finally escape that small town that we called home. The summer began to come to a close, and we could hardly contain our excitement to finally start our new adventure. College began, classes and homework took over our lives, and we made new friends and experienced many memories with them. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, right? With meals and a bed provided for us, it can be difficult to actually feel like you are on your own. By choosing to live in my college town over the summer, I made the choice that I will have to provide for myself. These interactions can be analyzed by developing a framework based on Artificial Life. This calls for the development of an Artificial Life based Software Ecosystem model. This paper proposes a framework using Artificial Life in the Software Ecosystem. In order to find the gaps in the existing methodologies, extensive literature review has been carried out. It was found that the interest in the topic has been on the increase and the advent of professional Ecosystems has helped popularizing the phenomenon. However, the present framework do not use the data related to evolution of the Software for later stages. The proposed methodology would pave way of Artificial Life in Software Ecosystem. 1. INTRODUCTION A Software Ecosystem (SE) considers developers, clients, operating system, underlying hardware and other peripheral components. A SE considers the concept of evolution of the software in the same way as the evolution of a natural ecosystem. It has been pointed out by many researchers that considering the system s evolution would lead to a better and comprehensive analysis of the software which would ultimately help in management and development of new versions. The point can be understood by the following analogy. If we consider that evolution of a human being, then what humans have done in order to achieve, what they have been able to ... The significance of religion is experienced in all the characters and its consequence especially on John Barton, after he murders Harry Carson, is immense and consequential. • 16. Mood In The Raven The Raven is the most famous of Poe s poems, notable for its melodic and dramatic qualities. The meter of the poem is mostly trochaic octameter, with eight stressed unstressed two syllable feet per lines. Combined with the predominating ABCBBB end rhyme scheme and the frequent use of internal rhyme, the trochaic octameter and the refrain of nothing more and nevermore give the poem a musical lilt when read aloud. Poe also emphasizes the O sound in words such as Lenore and nevermore in order to underline the melancholy and lonely sound of the poem and to establish the overall atmosphere. • 17. Titration Of Hcl Lab Report For this experiment, a series of strong acid strong base titrations were performed to determine the unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1 HCl solution. The results were then used to determine the exact concentration of the original HCl sample. One thing that could be changed during this lab is to use a more neutralized sample of deionized water. Throughout the rinsing process of the pH probe, the deionized water s pH reading would be more basic instead of neutral. Therefore, when testing the pH of the analyte, the results were slightly basic rather than having a pH of zero. This could have resulted in the pH of the solutions being slightly off when it came to the LabQuest readings. The volumes of NaOH titrated at the endpoint and equivalence point related to one another throughout the experiment. The volume was always greater at the endpoint than at the equivalence point. For the titration of HCl and NaOH, the amount of NaOH added at the endpoint was 9.00 mL and the 2nd derivative curve amount was 9.033 mL. Throughout Trial 2 and titrations of KHP and NaOH, this same trend was seen. The most accurate volume amount of NaOH was determined by looking at the equivalence point. • 20. Analysis Of Dramatic Irony In Marlowe C hristopher Marlowe has been characterized by various critics as a subjective playwright, one whose passions are reflected in the passions of his characters. Michel Poirier states that Marlowe s mind is spurred on by a passion similar to the one he has ascribed to some of the characters in his dramas. Poirier concludes that there is a definite connection between Marlowe s temperament and ideas. His desires govern his thoughts and his passions are the basis for his philosophy. Poirier considers that egotism is at the centre of his life and works. UCO of Miami is a Non Profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. UCO has a day program for adults where they can participate in recreational activities, go on excursions and also offer adults with disabilities employment skills training. United Community options was established in 1947 and has always aimed to being accessible for people with disabilities. The first thing I notice when I entered the parking lot was that UCO had four accessible parking spots and out of those four spots two are van accessible. They also have accessible drop off areas and accessible routes to get to the entrance. The front door which is 64 inches wide is automatic and stays open until the person passes through. The front door leads to the lobby which is very wide and has enough space for people that use wheel chairs to enter without obstruction getting in the way. The whole building is leveled and doesn t require ramps for the front entrance. Once past the front lobby there are a sequence of hallways you can take in order to get where you want to. Most of the hall ways measure from 59 inches to 84 inches wide and are leveled. Most objects like fire extinguishers or drinking fountains or signs protrude no more then four inches from the wall. • 25. Symbolism In The Thief The Thief and the Stalinist Period As a movie depicting the Stalinist period, The Thief eloquently wrapped a historical and political portrayal in an emotional journey of Sanya, Katya, and Tolyan. Some important aspects of the movie that provide a strong nuance of the Stalinist era are the financial struggle among commoners, the positive attitude towards Stalin, and the paternalistic emphasis. Additionally, some indirect symbolism in the movie may portray the relationship between Stalin and Russians during the Stalinist period. Financial struggle was the emphasis early in the movie, portraying how difficult life could be during the Stalinist period. In the beginning of the movie, Katya gave birth to Sanya. While this might symbolize the start of Sanya s story and life, the scene also signified how the lack of wealth made pain and suffering dominate the life of the characters. As the movie continued, this hardship seemed to permeate into the life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aside from retelling a story of fatherhood, The Thief indirectly symbolized the legacy of Stalin with its political failure and destructive impacts (Gillespie 75). To summarize, The Thief can symbolize Stalinist era in two ways. Using the values portrayed in the movie, it showed the significance of financial struggle, Stalin s popularity, and paternalistic views during the Stalinist period. In this respect I argue that it is the sort of theory which is not easily amenable to crucial test, as Wahba and Bridwell accept. This would usually be seen as a shortcoming. I here argue that, on the contrary, it is one of the qualities which gives the theory its power. The third ground is that the theory itself can be reļ¬ned. • 28. The Article Relational Leadership By James Freeman The article titled Relational Leadership written by James Freeman takes a look at the impact of Child and Youth Workers in the lives of youth, specifically the work of Brian Gannon. Brian Gannon is an experienced Youth Worker who took on a leadership role at St. Johns Hostel in Cape Town, South Africa in 1967, at the age of twenty seven. St. Johns consisted of sixty four boys, with many of them left alone in the aftermath of World War I along with the influenza epidemic. Outside of the care provided for the boys, the program offered them a life parallel to anyone living in the city. Activities such as afternoon sports, free time and contact with friends and family outside of the institution were provided and endorsed by the institution for the boys. Gannon s approach to working with youth focused on the following things highlighted in the article: creating smaller living groups for the boys, less regimented routines, more experiences of childhood and adolescence in everyday life, and a focus on developing meaningful relationships with one another (Freeman, 2015, p. 37). In other words, Gannon s main goal was to lead and guide the youth so that they are given an equal chance at succeeding in life. Gannon is also a co founder of CYC Net where he has published a collection of approximately two hundred child and youth care practice hints, each hint containing a background theory and a how to element. More recently the film has become known as one of the greatest movies of all time, it has inspired hope in many people, helping them to lose weight, leave abusive marriages and such like. The film is based mainly upon two convicts, and the idea of hope. Andy Dufresne is a Hot Shot Banker imprisoned with two life sentences, for the suspected murder of his wife and her lover and Red (Morgan Freeman) whom Andy redeems hope in, along with the other convicts, saving them from institutionalisation. Red is very reluctant to accept hope, even stating in the film Hope is a dangerous thing; hope can drive a man insane and this is expressed through shadows cast on him whilst Andy is shown in the light. This idea of hopelessness exaggerates the redemption of hope expressed later on in the film, an example of this is right at the very start of the film when the man is beaten so badly by the prison guards that he dies, Andy s asks a key question that nobody can answer; What was his name? . This hopelessness is then contrasted when the friendships are formed later on in the film, when everybody becomes close, which is confirmed when Andy bargains with the guards and consequently wins three bottles of beer for each of his work mates. Andy s friends and he are regularly shown laughing together or helping one another to cope, Darabont successfully reflects hope into the eyes of the viewer through these friendships. Gestures such as the harmonica illuminate this point when Red begins to create music. Music is constantly used in the film as an icon of hope; it is used throughout the whole film in various different ways, to express and exaggerate different emotions that the characters are feeling. We are able to track the change of emotions and the feelings towards the idea of hope that the convicts in Shawshank have, making the build up of hope increasingly noticeable to the viewer. (Dobzhanski, 1973) It was during his journey on board the Beagle that Darwin developed his theory of evolution. On the Origin of Species (Darwin, 1859) proposed two main principles: evolution really occurs and natural selection is its mechanism. This work published on 24th November 1859 traces a coherent portrait of life bringing together in an orderly manner an astonishing variety of apparently independent facts. It led biologists to concentrate on the diversity of organisms, their origins and their relation, their similarities and their differences, their geographical distribution and their adaptation to various environments. Finally the need for safety intervenes specifically in the specific shaping of the legs which enables animals to be more adapted to flee. However, this large visionary misses the mechanism which would make it possible to explain these adaptations. Jean Baptiste Lamarck Jean Baptiste Lamarck presented his theory on the transformation of species for the first time in 1800 in his Discours d Ouverture de l an VIII . He proposed: The animals most imperfect, simply organized, those suspected in a world hardly endowed with animality, are perhaps those by which nature began when, with a lot of time and favourable circumstances, it has wrought all the other (Lamarck, 1801: 12). For Lamarck, it was habits and environmental factors which influenced the evolution of the morphology of animals. The currently predominant view in philosophy of mind is that mental states are multiply realized by distinct physical states; this is the first premise of the standard argument. The second premise states that multiple realization is inconsistent with the identity theory. It therefore concludes that the identity theory is false. This essay will challenge both premises of the standard argument. Initially allowing the first premise, I will argue that multiple realization is not conceptually inconsistent with the identity theory. To achieve this, I will outline the enduring relevance of Lewis critique and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Challenging the Second Premise of the Standard Argument As alluded to earlier, there is a common distinction drawn in the literature between two types of multiple realization. The first type states that the same psychological states are realized across distinct physical structures via distinct mechanisms. In other words, any species that plausibly experiences mental state, MĀ”, experience the same type of mental state, MĀ”, via distinct physical type structures and MĀ” is thus multiply realized. Lewis (1969) influentially argued that this is not inconsistent with the identity theory of mind however. Lewis emphasises the importance of context and the relativity it grants the claims of the identity theorist. To illustrate the point I will use the universally employed example of pain in conjunction with the now defunct notion of C fibre firing, and a hypothetical notion of D fibre firing. The Rise Of The Roman And Ottoman Empires With every empire that ever existed, there were highs and lows that contributed to their rise as well as their fall in power each one somehow contributing to the rise of the next empire. Three great empires that are perfect examples of this are the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires. Regarding the rise and fall of these empires, there were differences that set them apart, however, there are several similarities that merit a thorough examination, with the Roman Empire having the greatest influence on society today. During Augustus Caesar s rule of the Roman Empire, he brought political stability to his people by defeating Rome s enemies, and preserving aristocracy, the Senate, the elected Roman magistracy, and Roman citizenship (Wallech et al., 2013). In the Mongolian Empire, Temujin, known later as Genghis Khan, also defeated all his rivals and became the leader of Mongolian tribes (May, 2008). Under his rule, the tribes of Mongolia were unified into a single supra tribe also known as the All Mongol State (May, 2008). The Ottoman Empire attracted and united those who roamed across the Middle East searching for means to gain their livelihoods and seeking to fulfill their religious desire to expand the territory of Islam (Yapp Shaw, 2017).
