Conference Chair For The Asian American Student Union
Conference Chair AASU As the conference chair for the Asian American Student Union, I
spearheaded a school wide conference on Asian American issues and advocacy. This conference
brought in speakers from across the United States, including members of the U.S. government, and
had over 100 participants. In addition, I led a group of twenty students to the East Coast Asian
American Student Union conference at Columbia University. I developed preparatory pre departure
workshops, handled scholarship distribution, and outlined travel logistics. As a member of the AASU
board, I had the opportunity to develop my own general body meeting on the topic of Asian American
portrayal in the media. My position as Conference Chair was my first large responsibility in college.
This position developed my interpersonal and team working skills; it also instilled the importance of
time management and organizational habits. Through the inspiration of my peers, I became committed
to bring creativity and innovation to all events that I planned. This position allowed me to explore my
passion of minority advocacy though the Asian/Asian American population and serve as a catalyst for
the promotion of education and awareness of Asian history and culture. Our greatest accomplishment
was the development and passing of the Asian American Studies Minor at the University of Florida.
Our first step was garnering support from the community through assembling a committee of students
and faculty, and created

Self-Awareness In Locke s On Identity And Diversity
Self awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual
separate from the environment and other individuals.
In philosophy
An early philosophical discussion of self awareness is that of John Locke. Locke was apparently
influenced by René Descartes statement normally translated I think, therefore I am . In chapter XXVII
On Identity and Diversity of Locke s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding he conceptualized
consciousness as the repeated self identification of oneself, through which moral responsibility could
be attributed to the subject and therefore punishment and guiltiness justified, as critics such as
Nietzsche would point out, affirming ...the psychology of conscience ... Show more content on

The Red Spot Technique created and experimented by Gordon Gallup studies self awareness in
animals . In this technique, a red odorless spot is placed on an anesthetized primate s forehead. The
spot is placed on the forehead so that it can only be seen through a mirror. Once the individual
awakens, independent movements toward the spot after seeing their reflection in a mirror are
observed. During the Red Spot Technique, after looking in the mirror, chimpanzees used their fingers
to touch the red dot that was on their forehead and even after touching the red dot they would smell
their fingertips. Animals that can recognize themselves in mirrors can conceive of themselves, says
Gallup. This would mean that the chimpanzees would possess self awareness. Note that the
chimpanzees have had experience with a mirror before the Red Spot Technique was performed.
Having experience with a mirror before the technique was performed reflects the past, independent
movement while looking in the mirror would reflect the present, and touching the red dot would
reflect what others are thinking which relates perfectly to Gallup s statement in the beginning of this
article. a mirror was presented with the reflective side facing the magpie being the only interpretation
of the bird seeing the marked spot they had on them. During one trial with a mirror and a mark, three
out of the five magpies showed a minimum of one example of self directed

Political Theories And Ideology Of Liberal Democracy Essay
Many challenges put a stress on Modern Democracy because of the political theories and ideology our
government holds, the current politicians taking office, inequalities throughout social classes and
economies, and the opinions of We the People . Nearly every country claims to be some form of a
democracy, but not all these self proclaimed democracies allow for free politics, good government,
and rule of law (Crick, 2002). Liberal democracy has begun to win over its royalist, fascist, and
collectivist rivals over the course of the last few centuries, and the freedom to vote has been steadily
expanded to those who were without it. But the liberal democracies of the world do have problems.
Democracy is only as good as its citizens, and the quality of those citizens demands certain constant
factors (7 Concerns, 2012).
Gerrymandering is the process in which political boundaries are redraw or changed in order to benefit
one political party over another one; if one party has power of the state legislature, then they can
change political boundaries to maximize their chances of winning congressional districts to win an
election. By doing this, unfair and skewed results are produced because redrawn lines can be made to
help one party win over the other, since constituents for the losing party will be divided between
districts (Tormsen, 2015). This will also allow the winning party to win more electoral votes and seats
(Tormsen, 2015). This practice is uniquely American and can be

Case Study Of Carcinomas
On comparison of clinical stages, majority of cases belonged to Stage II comprising of 10 (33.33%)
patients followed by Stage I in 9 (30.00%) patients, Stage III in 8 (26.67 %) patients and Stage IV in 3
(10%) patients. (Table 6)
Bryne M. (1998) suggested that molecular and morphological characteristics at the invasive front area
of various squamous cell carcinomas may reflect tumor prognosis better than other parts of the tumor.
Several molecular events are important for tumor spread like gains and losses of adhesion molecules,
secretion of proteolytic enzymes, increased cell proliferation and initiation of angiogenesis occur at
the tumor host interface; consequently they have developed a simple morphological malignancy

(2012) and Yang et al. (2013). Furthermore, EMMPRIN expression showed a predominantly
peripheral/ basal distribution pattern in the tumor islands in most of our cases. This was reported in
other studies (Monterio et al 2014) suggesting a more frequent distribution of this receptor in tumor
cells with a more proliferative phenotype. This expression pattern can be attributed to the structure of
EMMPRIN, as it has a cytoplasmic and membranous domain which was previously described by
Iacono et al. (2007).
On assessment of EMMPRIN expression in different age groups of OSCC, majority of patients that is
12 (90%) below 60 years patients showed strong expression and only 9 (60%) patients above 60 years
showed strong expression. (p 0.2115) (Table.8). However, there was no statistically significant
difference between EMMPRIN expression and age groups.
Patient s age is commonly considered co variable and is known to influencethe outcone of the
treatment. Schantz et al. had stated that genetic susceptibility to environmental carcinogens may
influence the risk of OSCC in young adults. While the correlation of prognosis with age seemed
controvertial. It is generally held view thatOSCC in young people are less aggressive and have good
prognosis.
Similarly, studies by Monterio et al (2014) did not exhibit a statistically significant association of
EMMPRIN expression with age.
On comparison of EMMPRIN expression and gender, we found that strong EMMPRIN

Police Accountability Essay
This essay will describe the mechanisms by which the British Police are held to account, and will
touch upon the paradox of police governance, the balance of unwanted coercion of police, financial
stewardship and police legitimacy. This essay will also divulge into a discussion on the topic; is
policing political? There will be an argument for and against, and the advantages and disadvantages to
both sides will be conversed to achieve an accurate conclusion. In addition this essay will start by
portraying the significance of Police Accountability.
Police Accountability in both England and Wales, became a national political issue throughout the
1980 s, the issues mainly alarmed those who had power over the police, who ought to manage them
and whether they were beyond democratic control. However, in recent years these issues have lost
some of their debate and accountability now focus on police effectiveness and police performance.
The police are to follow the rule of law and legislation (legislation is where powers of police are
derived) and are subordinated to the law. Police also have allegiance to the crown, which serves as an
alternative to the state, as a central organizing principle of government. The model known as the
tripartite system (shown below) conveys police accountability and is the essential basis of police
governance. It is established under the 1964 Police Act.
The tripartite system evenly distributes responsibilities between the following:

The Clothing And Fashion Industry
Consumers in the Fashion Industry
The topic I chose to write about was the clothing and fashion industry. Clothing is something that
everyone in modern society needs, and something that a few consumers care very much about. The
number one thing clothing is used for, besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our
personalities, socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the demographic for
people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot of variation. People buy clothes of many different
qualities and prices, or they make their own.
The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in depth and detailed
website about history, current events and trends in what people wear around the world. Although, I
don t think this encyclopedia has any information on consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives
you resources and access to articles on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time
period. Berg Fashion Library does not give much analysis on the clothing items or history, it just
presents you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of this
reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very relevant and has articles
about the the most cutting edge trends. These articles do a very good job giving a brief evaluation of
the topics, while not conveying any opinions about the fashion industry.
The web site I am evaluating is just style.com.

The Strength of Family in Death of a Salesman and A Raisin...
The American Dream is a vision of economic opportunity available to all those who work for it,
regardless of race or class. However, as seen in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and Lorraine
Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun , perverted conceptions of the American Dream convince certain
characters that they are entitled to the fruits of miracles. Despite their best intentions for supporting
their families, Walter Younger and Willy Loman encounter unsurpassable obstacles and are unable to
fulfill their dreams. When all hope has been lost, family is the only thing that these characters have
left. Death of a Salesman and A Raisin in the Sun portray family as asylums of safety amidst the
hopeless ambitions of tragic heroes. Both Lena ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lena tells Beneatha to love her brother when he is in a time of crisis and to understand what
tribulations he had to go through (hills and valleys) out of love for his family. Lena s establishes peace
between Walter and Beneatha by teaching them to forgive each another and value family harmony
above all else. The family peace is thus preserved and ultimately this unity allows the Youngers to
stand by one another at the end of the novel in the decision to move into their new home and persevere
against racial pressure. Lena s diplomatic skills come into play again during this climax and empower
the tragic hero of the story to make a redeeming decision. A major source of tension within the story
comes from disagreement over how the money should be invested, but that question becomes
meaningless when a crook dupes Walter and runs away with the money. Desperate, Walter is tempted
to acknowledge racial inferiority by staying out of Clybourne park in return for money, but ultimately
Lena convinces Walter that family is more important than money. As Walter prepares to seal the deal,
Lena tells her son to make [Travis] understand what you doing, Walter Lee... you show where our five

Cinderella, Aschenputtel, Little Saddleslut, And...
Cinderella, Aschenputtel, Little Saddleslut, and Cenerentola. These are all examples of different
versions of the same story. What is the appeal in adapting a story? Why or how is the meaning
changed for adaptations? How have stories been adapted? What effects do the stories and adaptations
have on people? There are numerous renditions of the same folktales, most differentiating due to the
fact that they were each adapted to be based on their cultures. Certain cultures alter specific aspects of
the story so that it can be more relatable to their society. However, these alterations can affect how
people interpret the meaning or purpose of the story. In Tatar s article, An Introduction to Fairy Tales,
she draws us in by describing childhood books as sacred objects. She takes a quote from Arthur
Schlesinger, Jr. describing how the stories give lessons about what a child subconsciously knows that
human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby
reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self, (Tatar 306). She describes how many
adults long for the simplicity of enjoying those stories in their childhoods, only to realize that they
outgrew them, and instead have been introduced to reality. The original stories were more for adults
rather than for children. Nowadays, stories have been adapted to be more suitable for children. Fairy
tales may allow a kid to wonder due to their charm, but they also can

The Doors Opened by Reading
To say it was a dark and stormy night would be a gross understatement. It was colder than a witch s
kiss, wetter than a spring swamp, and blacker than a tax collector s heart. A sane man would have been
curled up in front of a fire, ........ but not me. I was out in it. I m squire to a hero. The Last Knight by
Hilari Bell is an awe inspiring book that brings medieval tales to life. Being able to comprehend the
words written onto a piece of paper is a passion of mine. As a fan of mystical literature I have been
inspired by Christopher Paolini , an author, that taught me no matter how young you are you can
accomplish anything. My goal is to help share the wonders of reading with others, inspire others as
Christopher Paolini has me, and to one day be able to share my writing with the world in hope it will
bring joy to others. I ve had the mundane book in my backpack for days now, reluctant to open its
drab cover. I should probably return it to the library and tell my teacher I read it. Reading is overrated
anyway so why bother? , was my initial reaction as I picked up the colossal 700 page book in 4th
grade . I hadn t much interest in the humdrum book , leading me to look up a summary online. Instead
of the plot summary I was hoping for, I found the life story of Christopher Paolini, author and creator
of the Inheritance cycle series. Christopher started writing in high school when he was 15 years old,
published his first book when he was 16 and

Iago And Othello Essay
Iago and Othello have a copious amount of dissenting opinions and this is never more palpable than in
their sentiment about Othello and even though they are both biased views, with Othello obviously
having an affinity to himself and the both narcissistic and envious Iago having an animosity towards
Othello, they reveal the nature of Othello. Othello is an amalgamation of experiences; he is royalty, I

Writing Is The First Nonmilitary Course I Have Taken
Writing 101 is the first nonmilitary course I have taken in the last 10 years. The reason I elected to
take writing 101 was twofold. There is the obvious reason which is of course, that I need to complete
this class to move forward with my educational goals in getting my bachelor s degree. The second
reason is that I have always had a great interest in writing both from view point of the writer and that
of the reader. I have spent the last 17 years reading and writing many different products for the Navy
from instructions to messages, each having their own unique format and purpose. The military style of
writing is very different from how we write in the civilian world; each one has their place but I find
that writing nonmilitary works are more enjoyable, yes even the academic papers. When I first started
the WRTG 101 class my writing and sentence structure skills were rusty to say the least. Now at the
end of the writing 101 class I can say that my writing and sentence skill levels have improved but by
no measure the best they can be.
Using an unfamiliar format and tools was an interesting obstacle to overcome to say the least but not
the end point of what I learned in this course. The Communications Fitness or COMFIT website was a
great tool I liked that it took you many different directions to help you understand a topic. The two
topics I can say that COMFIT really helped with were commas and colons and semicolons. The
examples and tests helped me better understand

The Christ Of The Dead
Having heard from people all over of how the Thessalonians gave up their worship of idols and had
committed themselves to serving the one true God (1 Thessalonians 1:9), the apostle Paul was eager to
embark on a mission to Thessalonia long before he ever did (1 Thessalonians 1 3). However, the
Thessalonians were very new to the Christian faith and were also somewhat naïve when it came to
understanding certain aspects of their own religious doctrine, as shown to us by the Thessalonians fear
of the Second Coming of Jesus, and the death of the believers, which will come when he returns. Paul
knew this and didn t want the Thessalonians to be uninformed, so he told them what to expect, (1
Thessalonians 4:13 18), and also told them not to fear what was to come, because all the believers,
living and death would meet the lord beyond the clouds. In The Taking Up of The Dead, Joseph
Plevnik ponders on whether or not Paul encountered the Thessalonians before this, and spoke to them
of the resurrection of the dead. Plevnik also questions whether Paul registered a change of view on the
matter between 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians, and wonders what s to be made of the translation
motif in 1Thessalonians? Plevnik begins his argument by mentioning how religious scholar B. Rigaux
once commented on the Thessalonian letters. He observed that because certain exegetes concluded on
the basis of (v.13) that the Thessalonians knew nothing of the resurrection of the dead, (as seen by

Persuasive Essay On Equal Rights
Equal rights are guaranteed to all citizens no matter what race, sex, marital status and/or economic
status. Why should that change because of someone s sexual orientation? I believe most of what our
amendments say American citizens should do are not half way near what citizens actually do. U.S
News, Senator Jeff Merkley stated in 2015 that According to the Human Rights Campaign, which
advocates for greater LGBT rights, 31 states do not have laws that explicitly prohibit discrimination
based on sexual orientation or gender identity. I think that is wrong, we are not living in the 1940s we
should not be still arguing about whether we should not give equal rights to women or LGBT. We are
fighting about towards the LGBT community has equal rights/opportunities and women having equal
rights in 2017, you would think we are still in the 1720s. Recently Trump has said that transgender
people will not be able to have military jobs. In the New York Times website Matthew F. Thorn,
executive director of OutServe, said in an interview We have transgender individuals who serve in
elite SEAL teams, who are working in a time of war to defend our country, and now you re going to
kick them out? . I agree with his anger and his confusion because during Trump s election he made it
very clear that he would make the LGBT community feel at peace. Now he is just contradicting what
he previously protrude to do. When Trump was elected less than 15% that voted for him were
identified as LGBT,

Dyslexia Is A Learning Disability
Dyslexia is a learning disability in which people have difficulty reading, writing, and even in subjects
such a math and music. In my case, I found that subjects such as reading and writing were harder for
me compared to other kids my age. I was half way through my fourth grade year when I was
diagnosed with dyslexia. While at first this was something I hated about myself. Now being dyslexic
is something that makes me who I am today, and this is something I should never be ashamed of.
By the time I was in 1st grade all of my friends were learning to read and write, while I tried my
hardest to just get by. Yet after every single spelling test I would receive a failing grade or a barely
passing grade, and for me this was abnormal as I was a straight A student in everything else. While my
grades continued to fall, my mom started to believe that I was just not trying hard enough. For the next
three years, my mother started tutoring me every day after school. Each and every day after school my
mother would make me write my spelling words ten times each, and when that did not make any
change, I began to study ever single moment of the day. Sometimes I even studied in the shower, but
sadly I was still falling behind in certain subjects. This persisted on for three more years, when I was
in 3rd grade when my mom finally gave up with the school I was at and sent me to one that she
believed had a better education system.
At my new school the teachers where very similar as they

The Library For Books And Reading Were Prevalent
After multiple visits to the library to observe and interview, underlying themes of love for books and
reading were prevalent. When interviewing my librarian informant many times she said she loved to
read and loved books. The job of a librarian suited her perfectly. While on tour with her, I notice the
care other employees took while handling books as well, they would sort them gently and with gloved
hands re shelve them carefully as if handling a glass vase. When asked what they did after hours or for
fun, a few stated they just read. I have my focus group scheduled for this week and most likely will
get similar responses. Also the theme of the modern library relying heavily on technology was
reoccurring. From automated book check outs to security tags, to librarians running computerized
queries to find a book s statistics: frequency of check out, popularity and if it should still be offered at
the library. The librarians use computers and technology in almost all the request they get to assist
patrons. From when a book is out, to when something new will be available, to when a book should be
back in the library or if it is available online.
I will need to collect some follow up data and the data provided from the focus group should solidify
most of my findings. I would also like to see if all focus group members have the same respect for
books and reading or if I can pick up that this is only a job/paycheck for them. I just finished the

Analysis Of The Afterlife By Lance Armstrong
There are no heroes... in life, only the monsters win . To John Richardson this quote could not be
anymore true. In Richardson s article, The Afterlife, he writes about Lance Armstrong s miraculous
recovery from testicular cancer to winning the Tour de France seven consecutive years in a row, and
becoming a hero to cancer patients around the world, to then becoming the greatest cheater of all time.
No man has ever been looked up to so much by so many people and then despised by everyone until
Lance Armstrong. By analyzing Richardson s use of interviews, perfect heroes, and Armstrong s
blood, we can clarify his argument: that Armstrong became the greatest cheater of all time, and he
does not apologize for it. The interview with the Livestrong president, Doug Ulman, tells us
something very surprising. After people had discovered that all of Armstrong s winnings were won by
blood doping, he had been kicked out of his own organization, The Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Once he had been kicked out, they changed the name from The Lance Armstrong Foundation to The
Livestrong Foundation. No one wanted Lance Armstrong s name associated with their organization, or
with anything in fact. It was then assumed that Armstrong would never be accepted back into his
foundation, but Ulman tells us [i]f he decided that being a leader in the cancer community is what he
wants to spend his life doing... the foundation would welcome him Wood 2 back (Richardson 83).

Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking
Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and
soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but
horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked
at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public
looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance
began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild
obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonance made me begin to change my behavior.
Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it
can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors.
Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used
the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something
has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015,
p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in
ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the
stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds
themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An
extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community
might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by
either change our behaviors or our beliefs.
Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the
Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths
drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of
the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking
(Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Glatz et al

Reaction Paper On Phobias
One of the most common disorders suffering individuals in contemporary societies is the phobic
disorder. Etymologically, the word phobia is the English equivalent of the Greek word φοβία , which
means morbid, unreasonable, compulsive, and agonizing fear (Greek Language). The first noticed
occurrence of a phobia happened approximately in the fourth century B.C., and was made known to us
by Hippocrates, in his work The Seventh Book of Epidemics. However, the specific term phobia was
not used until half a century later, when it was incorporated by the Roman doctor, Celsus, in the word
hydrophobia. (The History of Phobias, 2012)The ancient origins of this word reveal that phobic
disorders were first established many centuries ago. In Psychology, ... Show more content on

Brain Chemistry
This model attributes specific phobias to abnormalities in the areas of the brain that are related to fear
and anxiety. In particular, it is said that specific phobias stem from increased responsiveness to fearful
stimuli, of fear and stress associated areas of the brain, such as the sympathetic nervous system (SNS)
and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) (David Sue, 2013).
The SNS is responsible for triggering fear responses and preparing the human body to face threatening
situations. The amygdala and the hypothalamus of the brain belong to the SNS. The PNS is the system
which returns the body to its normal, relaxed state after exposure to the threat has ceased. More
specifically, once an individual comes into contact with a fearful stimulus, the amygdala is activated
and in turn activates the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus activates the rest of the SNS with the
objective of preparing the body to face the stimulus. A signal is sent by the hypothalamus to the
adrenal glands which release epinephrine in the bloodstream. The epinephrine brings upon
physiological changes , increasing the alertness of the brain and the energy levels of all body parts. If
the brain continues to perceive the stimulus as dangerous, the hypothalamus releases corticotropin
releasing hormone (CRH), which triggers the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). ACTH
prompts the adrenal glands to release cortisol, which aids the body in remaining alert. Once the

Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples
Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have
gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of
the play occurred. This allows the film director s interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the
audience s understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director.
One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work of Hamlet
orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William
Shakespeare. The written work of Hamlet and the movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli have many
similar scenes. Act I Scene V is one of the most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In movie version of Hamlet there is a lot of emphasis put into the feelings Hamlet has towards his
mother. During the movie, there is lot of physical presence shown on screen when Hamlet and his
Gertrude begin to argue. The interpretation of Franco Zeffirelli propose that further plot development
due to the fact that Hamlet s character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also
connects to the hypothesis that Gibson s Hamlet is stronger, both physically and mentally, in
comparison to the original Hamlet.
Also, Gibson s Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because
everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare s
original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the heavy headed revel that
causes other nations to clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase (Hamlet I.iv.21 23). Shakespeare s
Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his
excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson s Hamlet shows an efficiently operating town with
broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms. In the original Hamlet not a lot of
information is given about the general public, but what is known is that Hamlet does not mix with
paupers except for the traveling theater group. The two pictures of Hamlet s world are very different

Coat Of Arms Assignment For Saatvik Sunkavalli
Coat of Arms Assignment for Saatvik Sunkavalli
Section 1: An animal I think represents me, is the spider. The spider symbolizes wisdom and a
hardworking nature. First, I think I am hard working because I always try to do my best at whatever I
do, even if I am bad at it. Also, I work as hard as possible, and I never go for minimum. In my picture,
the spider is working hard to make a web. Second, I think I am wise because I think hard about my
decisions before finalizing them to avoid making irrational decisions. I also consider myself fairly
intelligent, which is a major part of being wise. I showed this in my picture through the color of the
spider. I made it green, which represents wisdom.
Section 2: My greatest accomplishment in life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I showed the temptingly large potential income by placing stacks of money on the floor in my picture.
Section 4: My most prized possession is my coin collection for a few reasons. First, it has sentimental
value. It contains coins from relatives that I rarely see or are deceased. I represented this sentimental
value by making some of the coins hearts. Second, my collection is valuable. This is means it can be
used in an emergency situation or just to show off. I represented this in my picture by putting a gold
price tag on the binder that my coins are in. The gold color represents the wealth.
Section 5: I chose a musical sword as my symbol of strength. I chose a sword because a good sword in
the Medieval times could be used to show your worthiness as an opponent, and the point of a symbol
of strength on your coat of arms was meant to show your worthiness as an opponent. I made the hilt
red to show the militant purpose that the sword served. The sword is musical to show another one of
my areas of strength. I did this by drawing viola/violin f holes to both sides of the blade. I also added a
piano design to the sword s cross guard. These two instruments were chosen because they are the most
recognizable instruments. They were also the instruments I first learned to play.
Section 6: My dad is one of the most important people in the world to me. This is because he does so
much that he doesn t have to do for my family. On top of that, he has done a

The Negative Effects of Video Games Essay
Video games began in the late 1960s. It is highly interactive but also a distinct simulation of the real
world and the world of thinking. In recent years, Video games have been gaining its popularity at an
amazing rate and have developed into a common form of entertainment in people s lives. According to
a survey, the researcher found that in 1992, approximately ninety two percent of U.S. kids between 2
and 17 years of age play video games, and their parents bought 225 million of them last year to the
tune of 6.4 billion dollars (Sider, 2002). Some people also believe that playing video games has
become a cultural phenomenon. However, there are many noticeable problems are coming out while
video games bring us a lot of fun. The most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the frontal lobe of the brain is playing an essential role in controlling individual s behavior,
but the sad is it can only develop up to an age of 20. If children s frontal lobe is underdeveloped or
damaged, the things they do will be always improper, but in contrast if the frontal lobe is stimulated,
its fibrous tissue will grow and get thick that will help a lot on keeping their behavior in order. Video
games stunt the development of the frontal lobe in brain, which is very harmful to next generation of a
nation. Video games also have negative impacts on other parts of brain which are responsible for
sensory, emotion and visual perception. A Strong impulse of sound and light in video games can
directly divert the children s attention. In order to achieve an attractive effect, video games are often
colorful and stereotyped. When there is too much stimulus on visual and auditory, the children s
sensory function will be attenuated and sluggish to react. Additionally, many people argued that there
is a direct connection between children playing violent video games and becoming more violent on
their behavior. In an experiment, two groups of children were tested and they are separated by three to
six months. The purpose of this experiment is to assess the participants video games habits and

Hardware Efficient Delta Sigma Linear Processing Circuits
Abstract: This paper presents hardware efficient Delta Sigma linear processing circuits for the next
generation low power VLSI device in the Internet of things (IoT). We first propose the P N pair
method to manipulate both the analog value and length of a first order Delta Sigma bit sequence. We
then present a binary counter method. Based on these methods, we develop Delta Sigma domain on
the fly digital signal processing circuits: the Delta Sigma sum adder, average adder, and coefficient
multiplier. The counter based average adder can work with both first order and higher order Delta
Sigma modulators and can also be used as a coefficient multiplier. The functionalities of the proposed
circuits are verified by Matlab simulation and FPGA implementation. We also compare the area and
power between the proposed Delta Sigma adders and a conventional multi bit adder by synthesizing
both circuits in the IBM 0.18 µm technology. Synthesis results show that the proposed Delta Sigma
processing circuits can extensively reduce circuit area and power. With 100 inputs, a Delta Sigma
average adder saves 94% of the silicon area and 96% of the power compared to a multi bit binary
adder. The proposed circuits have the potential to be widely used in future miniaturized low power
VLSI circuits.
Keywords: VLSI, Delta Sigma Modulation, Digital Signal Processing, Adder, Coefficient Multiplier,

Self-Esteem In The Ugly Duckling
Self esteem is a huge issue in North American culture, especially within young people. Knowing this
fact, it is not surprising that one of the most well known classic fairy tales, The Ugly Duckling, deals
directly with the very subject. In the story, the ugly duckling goes through a significant inner
transformation based largely on the way the others around him view his appearance. Since he is fully
capable of keeping up and swimming along with his mother and siblings, the ugly duckling is
accepted at first; however his self esteem plummets as others begin attacking and condemning him
based solely on his physical appearance. The transformations from acceptance to extreme prosecution
he faces, along with the eventual acceptance by the flock of swans serves to emphasize that self
esteem is largely influenced by the superficial opinions of those one interacts with, rather than
demonstrations of other skills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the older duck advises her to just let it lie there since the egg is big and different from the
others, the mother decides to sit a little longer (162). Furthermore, when the larger egg cracks
revealing the ugly duckling, the mother remains determined to keep and include him which allows her
to discover that he is in fact able to keep up with the rest of the brood. He is my own child and, when
you look closely at him, he s quite handsome... (162) she exclaims, proud to show him off to everyone
now that he s proved himself. Her determination to include and love him continues to be established
once they are in the henyard being confronted by the older aristocratic duck, when she states that he
may not be handsome, but he has good character and swims as well as the others (163). At this point,
the mother duck is not concerned with his appearance since she sees him as worthy of being a part of
her family a judgement she makes based on his actions not his

Selecting A Gynecologist
When it comes time to select a new gynecologist, due to a move or a change in insurance, a woman
needs to take time to choose one that will work well for her. There are a variety of items to
contemplate such as location, philosophical compatibility, specialties and whether he or she has any
openings for new patients. Here are the top ten tips to help choose this important medical practitioner.
Specialties: Gynecologists often have specialties such as infertility, oncology, or obstetrics. If you are
having problems getting pregnant, you ll want a physician who has extensive knowledge in infertility.
If you or a blood relative has had uterine or gynecological cancer, it s a good idea to be teamed up
with a doctor who has expertise in oncology. If you re planning to become pregnant, you ll want a
doctor who includes obstetrics in their practice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insurance: You need to make sure that your insurance is accepted by a prospective medical provider.
You don t want to be surprised by a big bill for care that you thought was to be covered by your health
plan.
Philosophy: If you are interested in alternative health remedies and natural care whenever possible,
you ll want to make sure that your prospective doctor shares your philosophies. An initial consultation
would be a great time to discuss this.
Gender: Some women prefer a female doctor while others feel more comfortable with a male. Think
about your own preferences and choose a new gynecologist accordingly.
Location: Think about how far you d be willing to drive for your new physician and narrow down
possibilities with a map in

Mark Drolsbaugh Deaf Again Analysis
Mark Drolsbaugh s autobiography, Deaf Again goes through his life journey as a deaf individual who
tries to find his Deaf identity in the hearing world. Mark was born as a hearing person, but as he got
older he gradually started to lose his hearing which made it difficult for him to fit in as normal child.
When Mark was in kindergarten, he started to feel lost with his classmates and heard less and less.
After this incident, his grandfather took him to numerous doctors to find a solution for his hearing
loss, but there wasn t any resolution. Despite the fact having deaf parents who knew sign language,
Mark was never encouraged by his parents nor grandparents to communicate in sign language, they
were told by doctors that signing would interfere ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet again, his grandfather found him a high school, Germantown Friend s School (GFS) where he
passed the entrance exam, the faculty at GFS were aware of Mark s promising academic potential, but
they were concerned about Mark s deafness. He didn t want to disappoint his grandfather so he
decided to attend few classes. After that, it was convincing that Mark would be fine, but in reality, he
wasn t fine. He would have no clue about the discussions in the classroom, most of time he would just
be in his own world because he wouldn t know what s happening around him. Mark thought that if he
nods yes or says, I don t know in most conversations, he would feel part of the group. Eventually, he
got an interpreter in his classes, but even with an interpreter he would stay a few steps behind from the
class. On the other hand, when other students saw the beauty of American Sign Language, they were
mesmerized by it and some even went out of their way to learn it. Due to the lack of use of ASL, even
Mark was sort of shocked that he was able to comprehend so much information through the
communication of ASL. He stumbled through his years at GFS, but still graduated as the only deaf

A Summary On The Book Leonidas Essay
Chapter One
Leonidas needed a way to die.
He ran straight at the cave wall, head first, and bashed himself senseless. At least, he vaguely
remembered doing that when he woke up with his scaly dragon face flat on the floor. It was stupid, but
it was worth a try. His wyvern form was even tougher than his normal bullet proof skin and inherent
dragon healing powers. He d tried slashing his wrists, but his fae runes just scurried to heal them. He
could keep re cutting, but when he passed out from the blood loss, the wounds would heal, and he d
wake up still very much alive. Repeated attempts just kept him out longer while his blood regenerated.
It was fucking hard to kill a dragon.
He dragged his sorry wyvern ass up to front of the cave ti was a pocket of mountain he d carved out
over a decade ago, once he got close to the end of his days. At least he d made it to his tomb before he
lost his mind entirely, which meant Rosalyn was safe from his wyvern s savage need to take her by
force, seal her with his dragonfire, and then rape her until he impregnated her with his child. A
shudder ran through him with that horrifying thought. He d flown away from the keep as fast as he
could, then he d thrown up the protection runes around his tomb that would forever lock his beast
inside. His wyvern, with its beastly mindlessness, would be trapped, unable to open the magic cage he
d summoned.
The only problem? Half a day had passed, and he was still in his right mind.
Leonidas sat at the lip

Example Of A Perfume Commercial For The Good Girl Perfume
The media that I chose is a perfume commercial for the Good Girl Perfume by Carolina Herrera New
York 2016 and this commercial feature the blonde model Karlie Kloss in a long black dress and
wearing a pair of black stilettos as she turns heads on her way to a hotel, to meet her date. What
happens around her when she walks in the middle of the street, with confidence and sensuality?
Glances are transformed into stares, car crash because drivers have their eyes on her, the wind starts to
blow away newspapers and magazines, and thunder strikes light up the sky. It is not enough to turn
heads jaws must drop, glances transform into stares. When good girl clicks her heels, she has the city

The box is an impressive quality because it s got this fabulous velvet finish. It s a stylish black, white
and gold rectangular head turner. But the real treasure is reigning in. Carolina Herrera got her
inspiration from the famous Marilyn Monroe s quote: Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer
the world . As a result, a stunning and unique bottle in the shape of a sky high sexy stiletto was born.
Another inspiration was New York City (as you know, it is my most favorite happy places in the
world. The stiletto is super sleek and gorgeous. The shoe body is shiny with a delicate Carolina
Herrera brand print on its sole and CH initials on the front. And then there is a beautifully piercing tall
gold heel! The quality of the bottle is out of this world. Even though I am not really a high heel
wearer, this shoe got lots of people to say Wow ! The sprayer is located at the very top with a sleek
little pushbutton in the back. The packaging couldn t be more perfect as it states and represents one
main thing: we, women, are strong, daring, powerful, beautiful, independent and we set our own rules.
It doesn t matter if you re a flats lover, you might still find this packaging, gorgeous and strong, just

History And Systems Of Psychology
History and Systems of Psychology is a course requirement offered to Psychology majors and minors.
This course is used to provide majors and minors with the foundation and the evolution of the field of
psychology. Within this class, many scholars of discussed. Two scholars that stood out to me in this
course would be John Watson and Max Wertheimer. These two particular scholars are responsible for
two of the most influential and famous schools of thought, behaviorism and Gestalt psychology. These
two schools of thought are responsible for changing the field of psychology and introducing the field
to new theories and ways of thinking. Although the two schools of thought are similar in being
influential but they are different in many ways. The two schools of thought are even said to be
contradictory of one another and one is even said to be the cause of the fading out of the other.
John Watson was born January 9, 1878 and he died September 25, 1958. He grew up in South
Carolina (Cherry, 2014). John Watson grew up in a poor and dysfunctional family. His mother was
Christian and she, therefore, wanted to raise him to be Christian. His father, on the other hand, was a
bad man. He did drugs and got in trouble. In Watson s teenage years, he had an affair and left his
family. Although Watson s mother s intentions were to raise him to be a good Christian man, Watson
ended up being a very violent kid. Watson even found himself in trouble with the law, just as his dad
did. Later in

How Technology Has Changed Our Human Condition Essay
Transhumanism...Author sighs deeply... where to begin. Transhumanism (abbreviated as H+ or h+) is
an international and intellectual movement that aims to transform the human condition by developing
and creating widely available sophisticated technologies to enhance human intellectual, physical, and
psychological capacities.
The Transhumanism race will have enhanced bodies and minds. These bodies and minds will change
equality between humans. The physical change will cause basic human rights to be revisited because
many believe transhumanism will promote inequity between economic Transhumans and normal
humans.
Today, there are many forms of technology. Just 10 years ago, there was barley the portable cell
phone. These days there are attachments that one can put on a gun and shoot an EMP (Electro
Magnetic Pulse). Technology has had break through after ground shattering breakthrough; however,
we do not yet have cyborgs and droids walking around the streets. There are many technologies that
exist today that most people do not know exists. Some of the coolest technology such as cryonics,
Virtual reality, gene therapy/RNA interface (gene enhancements), cybernetics (or robotic body parts),
autonomous self replicating robotics, molecular manufacturing, and mega scale engineering are just a
few innovations that are changing the world as it has never seen before. With these changes comes
great responsibility. If the technology of a Splicer (a devise that upgrades human

The Movie The Rain Maker s Bad Faith Suite Against...
There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy
Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F.
Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the
pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing
grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and
wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not
impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of
lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you
know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!!
This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges
refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also
willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare
decisis, in the pursuit of justice.
With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our
course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the
cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or

  • 2. Conference Chair For The Asian American Student Union Conference Chair AASU As the conference chair for the Asian American Student Union, I spearheaded a school wide conference on Asian American issues and advocacy. This conference brought in speakers from across the United States, including members of the U.S. government, and had over 100 participants. In addition, I led a group of twenty students to the East Coast Asian American Student Union conference at Columbia University. I developed preparatory pre departure workshops, handled scholarship distribution, and outlined travel logistics. As a member of the AASU board, I had the opportunity to develop my own general body meeting on the topic of Asian American portrayal in the media. My position as Conference Chair was my first large responsibility in college. This position developed my interpersonal and team working skills; it also instilled the importance of time management and organizational habits. Through the inspiration of my peers, I became committed to bring creativity and innovation to all events that I planned. This position allowed me to explore my passion of minority advocacy though the Asian/Asian American population and serve as a catalyst for the promotion of education and awareness of Asian history and culture. Our greatest accomplishment was the development and passing of the Asian American Studies Minor at the University of Florida. Our first step was garnering support from the community through assembling a committee of students and faculty, and created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Self-Awareness In Locke s On Identity And Diversity Self awareness is the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals. In philosophy An early philosophical discussion of self awareness is that of John Locke. Locke was apparently influenced by René Descartes statement normally translated I think, therefore I am . In chapter XXVII On Identity and Diversity of Locke s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding he conceptualized consciousness as the repeated self identification of oneself, through which moral responsibility could be attributed to the subject and therefore punishment and guiltiness justified, as critics such as Nietzsche would point out, affirming ...the psychology of conscience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Red Spot Technique created and experimented by Gordon Gallup studies self awareness in animals . In this technique, a red odorless spot is placed on an anesthetized primate s forehead. The spot is placed on the forehead so that it can only be seen through a mirror. Once the individual awakens, independent movements toward the spot after seeing their reflection in a mirror are observed. During the Red Spot Technique, after looking in the mirror, chimpanzees used their fingers to touch the red dot that was on their forehead and even after touching the red dot they would smell their fingertips. Animals that can recognize themselves in mirrors can conceive of themselves, says Gallup. This would mean that the chimpanzees would possess self awareness. Note that the chimpanzees have had experience with a mirror before the Red Spot Technique was performed. Having experience with a mirror before the technique was performed reflects the past, independent movement while looking in the mirror would reflect the present, and touching the red dot would reflect what others are thinking which relates perfectly to Gallup s statement in the beginning of this article. a mirror was presented with the reflective side facing the magpie being the only interpretation of the bird seeing the marked spot they had on them. During one trial with a mirror and a mark, three out of the five magpies showed a minimum of one example of self directed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Political Theories And Ideology Of Liberal Democracy Essay Many challenges put a stress on Modern Democracy because of the political theories and ideology our government holds, the current politicians taking office, inequalities throughout social classes and economies, and the opinions of We the People . Nearly every country claims to be some form of a democracy, but not all these self proclaimed democracies allow for free politics, good government, and rule of law (Crick, 2002). Liberal democracy has begun to win over its royalist, fascist, and collectivist rivals over the course of the last few centuries, and the freedom to vote has been steadily expanded to those who were without it. But the liberal democracies of the world do have problems. Democracy is only as good as its citizens, and the quality of those citizens demands certain constant factors (7 Concerns, 2012). Gerrymandering is the process in which political boundaries are redraw or changed in order to benefit one political party over another one; if one party has power of the state legislature, then they can change political boundaries to maximize their chances of winning congressional districts to win an election. By doing this, unfair and skewed results are produced because redrawn lines can be made to help one party win over the other, since constituents for the losing party will be divided between districts (Tormsen, 2015). This will also allow the winning party to win more electoral votes and seats (Tormsen, 2015). This practice is uniquely American and can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, EMMPRIN expression showed a predominantly peripheral/ basal distribution pattern in the tumor islands in most of our cases. This was reported in other studies (Monterio et al 2014) suggesting a more frequent distribution of this receptor in tumor cells with a more proliferative phenotype. This expression pattern can be attributed to the structure of EMMPRIN, as it has a cytoplasmic and membranous domain which was previously described by Iacono et al. (2007). On assessment of EMMPRIN expression in different age groups of OSCC, majority of patients that is 12 (90%) below 60 years patients showed strong expression and only 9 (60%) patients above 60 years showed strong expression. • 6. Police Accountability Essay This essay will describe the mechanisms by which the British Police are held to account, and will touch upon the paradox of police governance, the balance of unwanted coercion of police, financial stewardship and police legitimacy. This essay will also divulge into a discussion on the topic; is policing political? There will be an argument for and against, and the advantages and disadvantages to both sides will be conversed to achieve an accurate conclusion. In addition this essay will start by portraying the significance of Police Accountability. Police Accountability in both England and Wales, became a national political issue throughout the 1980 s, the issues mainly alarmed those who had power over the police, who ought to manage them and whether they were beyond democratic control. However, in recent years these issues have lost some of their debate and accountability now focus on police effectiveness and police performance. The police are to follow the rule of law and legislation (legislation is where powers of police are derived) and are subordinated to the law. Police also have allegiance to the crown, which serves as an alternative to the state, as a central organizing principle of government. The model known as the tripartite system (shown below) conveys police accountability and is the essential basis of police governance. It is established under the 1964 Police Act. The tripartite system evenly distributes responsibilities between the following: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Clothing And Fashion Industry Consumers in the Fashion Industry The topic I chose to write about was the clothing and fashion industry. Clothing is something that everyone in modern society needs, and something that a few consumers care very much about. The number one thing clothing is used for, besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our personalities, socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the demographic for people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot of variation. People buy clothes of many different qualities and prices, or they make their own. The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in depth and detailed website about history, current events and trends in what people wear around the world. Although, I don t think this encyclopedia has any information on consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives you resources and access to articles on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time period. Berg Fashion Library does not give much analysis on the clothing items or history, it just presents you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of this reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very relevant and has articles about the the most cutting edge trends. These articles do a very good job giving a brief evaluation of the topics, while not conveying any opinions about the fashion industry. The web site I am evaluating is just style.com. ... However, as seen in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman and Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun , perverted conceptions of the American Dream convince certain characters that they are entitled to the fruits of miracles. Despite their best intentions for supporting their families, Walter Younger and Willy Loman encounter unsurpassable obstacles and are unable to fulfill their dreams. When all hope has been lost, family is the only thing that these characters have left. The family peace is thus preserved and ultimately this unity allows the Youngers to stand by one another at the end of the novel in the decision to move into their new home and persevere against racial pressure. Lena s diplomatic skills come into play again during this climax and empower the tragic hero of the story to make a redeeming decision. A major source of tension within the story comes from disagreement over how the money should be invested, but that question becomes meaningless when a crook dupes Walter and runs away with the money. Desperate, Walter is tempted to acknowledge racial inferiority by staying out of Clybourne park in return for money, but ultimately Lena convinces Walter that family is more important than money. What is the appeal in adapting a story? Why or how is the meaning changed for adaptations? How have stories been adapted? What effects do the stories and adaptations have on people? There are numerous renditions of the same folktales, most differentiating due to the fact that they were each adapted to be based on their cultures. Certain cultures alter specific aspects of the story so that it can be more relatable to their society. However, these alterations can affect how people interpret the meaning or purpose of the story. In Tatar s article, An Introduction to Fairy Tales, she draws us in by describing childhood books as sacred objects. She takes a quote from Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. describing how the stories give lessons about what a child subconsciously knows that human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self, (Tatar 306). She describes how many adults long for the simplicity of enjoying those stories in their childhoods, only to realize that they outgrew them, and instead have been introduced to reality. The original stories were more for adults rather than for children. Nowadays, stories have been adapted to be more suitable for children. I m squire to a hero. The Last Knight by Hilari Bell is an awe inspiring book that brings medieval tales to life. Being able to comprehend the words written onto a piece of paper is a passion of mine. My goal is to help share the wonders of reading with others, inspire others as Christopher Paolini has me, and to one day be able to share my writing with the world in hope it will bring joy to others. I ve had the mundane book in my backpack for days now, reluctant to open its drab cover. I should probably return it to the library and tell my teacher I read it. Reading is overrated anyway so why bother? , was my initial reaction as I picked up the colossal 700 page book in 4th grade . I hadn t much interest in the humdrum book , leading me to look up a summary online. • 12. Writing Is The First Nonmilitary Course I Have Taken Writing 101 is the first nonmilitary course I have taken in the last 10 years. The reason I elected to take writing 101 was twofold. There is the obvious reason which is of course, that I need to complete this class to move forward with my educational goals in getting my bachelor s degree. The second reason is that I have always had a great interest in writing both from view point of the writer and that of the reader. I have spent the last 17 years reading and writing many different products for the Navy from instructions to messages, each having their own unique format and purpose. The military style of writing is very different from how we write in the civilian world; each one has their place but I find that writing nonmilitary works are more enjoyable, yes even the academic papers. When I first started the WRTG 101 class my writing and sentence structure skills were rusty to say the least. Now at the end of the writing 101 class I can say that my writing and sentence skill levels have improved but by no measure the best they can be. Using an unfamiliar format and tools was an interesting obstacle to overcome to say the least but not the end point of what I learned in this course. The Communications Fitness or COMFIT website was a great tool I liked that it took you many different directions to help you understand a topic. The two topics I can say that COMFIT really helped with were commas and colons and semicolons. The examples and tests helped me better understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Christ Of The Dead Having heard from people all over of how the Thessalonians gave up their worship of idols and had committed themselves to serving the one true God (1 Thessalonians 1:9), the apostle Paul was eager to embark on a mission to Thessalonia long before he ever did (1 Thessalonians 1 3). However, the Thessalonians were very new to the Christian faith and were also somewhat naïve when it came to understanding certain aspects of their own religious doctrine, as shown to us by the Thessalonians fear of the Second Coming of Jesus, and the death of the believers, which will come when he returns. Paul knew this and didn t want the Thessalonians to be uninformed, so he told them what to expect, (1 Thessalonians 4:13 18), and also told them not to fear what was to come, because all the believers, living and death would meet the lord beyond the clouds. In The Taking Up of The Dead, Joseph Plevnik ponders on whether or not Paul encountered the Thessalonians before this, and spoke to them of the resurrection of the dead. Plevnik also questions whether Paul registered a change of view on the matter between 1 Thessalonians and 1 Corinthians, and wonders what s to be made of the translation motif in 1Thessalonians? Plevnik begins his argument by mentioning how religious scholar B. Rigaux once commented on the Thessalonian letters. He observed that because certain exegetes concluded on the basis of (v.13) that the Thessalonians knew nothing of the resurrection of the dead, (as seen by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Persuasive Essay On Equal Rights Equal rights are guaranteed to all citizens no matter what race, sex, marital status and/or economic status. Why should that change because of someone s sexual orientation? I believe most of what our amendments say American citizens should do are not half way near what citizens actually do. U.S News, Senator Jeff Merkley stated in 2015 that According to the Human Rights Campaign, which advocates for greater LGBT rights, 31 states do not have laws that explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. I think that is wrong, we are not living in the 1940s we should not be still arguing about whether we should not give equal rights to women or LGBT. We are fighting about towards the LGBT community has equal rights/opportunities and women having equal rights in 2017, you would think we are still in the 1720s. Recently Trump has said that transgender people will not be able to have military jobs. In the New York Times website Matthew F. Thorn, executive director of OutServe, said in an interview We have transgender individuals who serve in elite SEAL teams, who are working in a time of war to defend our country, and now you re going to kick them out? . I agree with his anger and his confusion because during Trump s election he made it very clear that he would make the LGBT community feel at peace. • 16. Dyslexia Is A Learning Disability Dyslexia is a learning disability in which people have difficulty reading, writing, and even in subjects such a math and music. In my case, I found that subjects such as reading and writing were harder for me compared to other kids my age. I was half way through my fourth grade year when I was diagnosed with dyslexia. While at first this was something I hated about myself. Now being dyslexic is something that makes me who I am today, and this is something I should never be ashamed of. By the time I was in 1st grade all of my friends were learning to read and write, while I tried my hardest to just get by. Yet after every single spelling test I would receive a failing grade or a barely passing grade, and for me this was abnormal as I was a straight A student in everything else. While my grades continued to fall, my mom started to believe that I was just not trying hard enough. For the next three years, my mother started tutoring me every day after school. Each and every day after school my mother would make me write my spelling words ten times each, and when that did not make any change, I began to study ever single moment of the day. Sometimes I even studied in the shower, but sadly I was still falling behind in certain subjects. This persisted on for three more years, when I was in 3rd grade when my mom finally gave up with the school I was at and sent me to one that she believed had a better education system. • 18. The Library For Books And Reading Were Prevalent After multiple visits to the library to observe and interview, underlying themes of love for books and reading were prevalent. When interviewing my librarian informant many times she said she loved to read and loved books. The job of a librarian suited her perfectly. While on tour with her, I notice the care other employees took while handling books as well, they would sort them gently and with gloved hands re shelve them carefully as if handling a glass vase. When asked what they did after hours or for fun, a few stated they just read. I have my focus group scheduled for this week and most likely will get similar responses. Also the theme of the modern library relying heavily on technology was reoccurring. From automated book check outs to security tags, to librarians running computerized queries to find a book s statistics: frequency of check out, popularity and if it should still be offered at the library. The librarians use computers and technology in almost all the request they get to assist patrons. From when a book is out, to when something new will be available, to when a book should be back in the library or if it is available online. I will need to collect some follow up data and the data provided from the focus group should solidify most of my findings. • 19. Analysis Of The Afterlife By Lance Armstrong There are no heroes... in life, only the monsters win . To John Richardson this quote could not be anymore true. In Richardson s article, The Afterlife, he writes about Lance Armstrong s miraculous recovery from testicular cancer to winning the Tour de France seven consecutive years in a row, and becoming a hero to cancer patients around the world, to then becoming the greatest cheater of all time. No man has ever been looked up to so much by so many people and then despised by everyone until Lance Armstrong. By analyzing Richardson s use of interviews, perfect heroes, and Armstrong s blood, we can clarify his argument: that Armstrong became the greatest cheater of all time, and he does not apologize for it. The interview with the Livestrong president, Doug Ulman, tells us something very surprising. After people had discovered that all of Armstrong s winnings were won by blood doping, he had been kicked out of his own organization, The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Once he had been kicked out, they changed the name from The Lance Armstrong Foundation to The Livestrong Foundation. No one wanted Lance Armstrong s name associated with their organization, or with anything in fact. It was then assumed that Armstrong would never be accepted back into his foundation, but Ulman tells us [i]f he decided that being a leader in the cancer community is what he wants to spend his life doing... the foundation would welcome him Wood 2 back (Richardson 83). • 20. Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonance made me begin to change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors. Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs. Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). • 21. Reaction Paper On Phobias One of the most common disorders suffering individuals in contemporary societies is the phobic disorder. Etymologically, the word phobia is the English equivalent of the Greek word φοβία , which means morbid, unreasonable, compulsive, and agonizing fear (Greek Language). The first noticed occurrence of a phobia happened approximately in the fourth century B.C., and was made known to us by Hippocrates, in his work The Seventh Book of Epidemics. However, the specific term phobia was not used until half a century later, when it was incorporated by the Roman doctor, Celsus, in the word hydrophobia. (The History of Phobias, 2012)The ancient origins of this word reveal that phobic disorders were first established many centuries ago. In Psychology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain Chemistry This model attributes specific phobias to abnormalities in the areas of the brain that are related to fear and anxiety. In particular, it is said that specific phobias stem from increased responsiveness to fearful stimuli, of fear and stress associated areas of the brain, such as the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) (David Sue, 2013). The SNS is responsible for triggering fear responses and preparing the human body to face threatening situations. The amygdala and the hypothalamus of the brain belong to the SNS. The PNS is the system which returns the body to its normal, relaxed state after exposure to the threat has ceased. More specifically, once an individual comes into contact with a fearful stimulus, the amygdala is activated and in turn activates the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus activates the rest of the SNS with the objective of preparing the body to face the stimulus. A signal is sent by the hypothalamus to the adrenal glands which release epinephrine in the bloodstream. The epinephrine brings upon physiological changes , increasing the alertness of the brain and the energy levels of all body parts. If the brain continues to perceive the stimulus as dangerous, the hypothalamus releases corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH), which triggers the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). ACTH prompts the adrenal glands to release cortisol, which aids the body in remaining alert. Once the individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Hamlet, Play and the Movie Essay examples Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of the play occurred. This allows the film director s interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the audience s understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director. One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work of Hamlet orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William Shakespeare. The written work of Hamlet and the movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli have many similar scenes. Act I Scene V is one of the most important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In movie version of Hamlet there is a lot of emphasis put into the feelings Hamlet has towards his mother. During the movie, there is lot of physical presence shown on screen when Hamlet and his Gertrude begin to argue. The interpretation of Franco Zeffirelli propose that further plot development due to the fact that Hamlet s character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also connects to the hypothesis that Gibson s Hamlet is stronger, both physically and mentally, in comparison to the original Hamlet. Also, Gibson s Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare s original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the heavy headed revel that causes other nations to clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase (Hamlet I.iv.21 23). Shakespeare s Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson s Hamlet shows an efficiently operating town with broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms. In the original Hamlet not a lot of information is given about the general public, but what is known is that Hamlet does not mix with paupers except for the traveling theater group. The spider symbolizes wisdom and a hardworking nature. First, I think I am hard working because I always try to do my best at whatever I do, even if I am bad at it. Also, I work as hard as possible, and I never go for minimum. In my picture, the spider is working hard to make a web. Second, I think I am wise because I think hard about my decisions before finalizing them to avoid making irrational decisions. I also consider myself fairly intelligent, which is a major part of being wise. I showed this in my picture through the color of the spider. I made it green, which represents wisdom. I represented this sentimental value by making some of the coins hearts. Second, my collection is valuable. This is means it can be used in an emergency situation or just to show off. I represented this in my picture by putting a gold price tag on the binder that my coins are in. The gold color represents the wealth. Section 5: I chose a musical sword as my symbol of strength. I chose a sword because a good sword in the Medieval times could be used to show your worthiness as an opponent, and the point of a symbol of strength on your coat of arms was meant to show your worthiness as an opponent. I made the hilt red to show the militant purpose that the sword served. The sword is musical to show another one of my areas of strength. I did this by drawing viola/violin f holes to both sides of the blade. I also added a piano design to the sword s cross guard. These two instruments were chosen because they are the most recognizable instruments. They were also the instruments I first learned to play. In recent years, Video games have been gaining its popularity at an amazing rate and have developed into a common form of entertainment in people s lives. According to a survey, the researcher found that in 1992, approximately ninety two percent of U.S. kids between 2 and 17 years of age play video games, and their parents bought 225 million of them last year to the tune of 6.4 billion dollars (Sider, 2002). Moreover, the frontal lobe of the brain is playing an essential role in controlling individual s behavior, but the sad is it can only develop up to an age of 20. If children s frontal lobe is underdeveloped or damaged, the things they do will be always improper, but in contrast if the frontal lobe is stimulated, its fibrous tissue will grow and get thick that will help a lot on keeping their behavior in order. Video games stunt the development of the frontal lobe in brain, which is very harmful to next generation of a nation. Video games also have negative impacts on other parts of brain which are responsible for sensory, emotion and visual perception. A Strong impulse of sound and light in video games can directly divert the children s attention. In order to achieve an attractive effect, video games are often colorful and stereotyped. When there is too much stimulus on visual and auditory, the children s sensory function will be attenuated and sluggish to react. Additionally, many people argued that there is a direct connection between children playing violent video games and becoming more violent on their behavior. In an experiment, two groups of children were tested and they are separated by three to six months. The purpose of this experiment is to assess the participants video games habits and physically ... • 25. Hardware Efficient Delta Sigma Linear Processing Circuits Abstract: This paper presents hardware efficient Delta Sigma linear processing circuits for the next generation low power VLSI device in the Internet of things (IoT). We first propose the P N pair method to manipulate both the analog value and length of a first order Delta Sigma bit sequence. We then present a binary counter method. Based on these methods, we develop Delta Sigma domain on the fly digital signal processing circuits: the Delta Sigma sum adder, average adder, and coefficient multiplier. The counter based average adder can work with both first order and higher order Delta Sigma modulators and can also be used as a coefficient multiplier. The functionalities of the proposed circuits are verified by Matlab simulation and FPGA implementation. We also compare the area and power between the proposed Delta Sigma adders and a conventional multi bit adder by synthesizing both circuits in the IBM 0.18 µm technology. Synthesis results show that the proposed Delta Sigma processing circuits can extensively reduce circuit area and power. With 100 inputs, a Delta Sigma average adder saves 94% of the silicon area and 96% of the power compared to a multi bit binary adder. The proposed circuits have the potential to be widely used in future miniaturized low power VLSI circuits. Knowing this fact, it is not surprising that one of the most well known classic fairy tales, The Ugly Duckling, deals directly with the very subject. In the story, the ugly duckling goes through a significant inner transformation based largely on the way the others around him view his appearance. Since he is fully capable of keeping up and swimming along with his mother and siblings, the ugly duckling is accepted at first; however his self esteem plummets as others begin attacking and condemning him based solely on his physical appearance. The transformations from acceptance to extreme prosecution he faces, along with the eventual acceptance by the flock of swans serves to emphasize that self esteem is largely influenced by the superficial opinions of those one interacts with, rather than demonstrations of other skills ... At least, he vaguely remembered doing that when he woke up with his scaly dragon face flat on the floor. It was stupid, but it was worth a try. His wyvern form was even tougher than his normal bullet proof skin and inherent dragon healing powers. He d tried slashing his wrists, but his fae runes just scurried to heal them. He could keep re cutting, but when he passed out from the blood loss, the wounds would heal, and he d wake up still very much alive. Repeated attempts just kept him out longer while his blood regenerated. It was fucking hard to kill a dragon. He dragged his sorry wyvern ass up to front of the cave ti was a pocket of mountain he d carved out over a decade ago, once he got close to the end of his days. At least he d made it to his tomb before he lost his mind entirely, which meant Rosalyn was safe from his wyvern s savage need to take her by force, seal her with his dragonfire, and then rape her until he impregnated her with his child. A shudder ran through him with that horrifying thought. He d flown away from the keep as fast as he could, then he d thrown up the protection runes around his tomb that would forever lock his beast inside. His wyvern, with its beastly mindlessness, would be trapped, unable to open the magic cage he d summoned. The only problem? Half a day had passed, and he was still in his right mind. These two particular scholars are responsible for two of the most influential and famous schools of thought, behaviorism and Gestalt psychology. These two schools of thought are responsible for changing the field of psychology and introducing the field to new theories and ways of thinking. Although the two schools of thought are similar in being influential but they are different in many ways. The two schools of thought are even said to be contradictory of one another and one is even said to be the cause of the fading out of the other. The Transhumanism race will have enhanced bodies and minds. These bodies and minds will change equality between humans. The physical change will cause basic human rights to be revisited because many believe transhumanism will promote inequity between economic Transhumans and normal humans.
