Atyotypical BCR-ABL Translocation
This paper is a short case study focused on a patient with an atypical BCR ABL translocation in CML.
The 80 year old male patient presented with a history of two months of worsening fatigue, weakness,
shortness of breath and weight loss. Blood tests showed mild anemia, normal platelets, and
leukocytosis with elevated myelocytes and metamyelocytes. The bone marrow aspirate showed a
hypercellular marrow with 90% myeloid cells, but no myeloblasts. A karyotype was performed on the
cells from the marrow aspirate; it revealed the Philadelphia chromosome translocation. This confirmed
the diagnosis of CML. Further PCR study was done on the patient s RNA and it revealed an atypical
band on the gel. This band was purified from the gel and sequenced. It revealed the rare presence of
the e1a3 BCR ABL exon combination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This absence predisposes the patient s cells to growth factor independence and therefore
transformation. Another aspect of the transformation of note is that the proliferation takes longer due
to slower leukemogenesis. This gives this disease an indolent course, which makes it particularly
difficult to detect. The patient in this case was put on 400mg of Imatinib daily. The CML responded
well to the treatment, the patient s blood and marrow studies normalized. However, after five months
the patient developed a lymphoid blast crisis. Bone marrow studies showed 94% lymphoid blast

Summary Of Balthasar And Feste
Balthasar and Feste fulfill the same role of paid entertainers that are kept around to make the nobility
laugh. This role seems like one that Shakespeare used simply to continue the progression of the play.
This argument is mostly true with Balthasar who we learn very little about and who appears only
when the plot necessitates it. On the other hand, Feste is a much more complex and central character.
Shakespeare uses Feste to insert his own commentary about the play and the characters in it. Feste
displays more cynicism and bitterness than other characters and his songs do not always align with the
tone of the play. With Balthasar and Feste, Shakespeare takes two characters that fulfill the same role
and has used them in entirely different ways to reach the goals he wants to achieve.
Balthasar s first appearance is in the palace orchard where Benedick is hiding. He sings a song about
men being unfaithful, Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more, Men were deceivers ever, (2.3.blank blank).
Don Pedro and Claudio are using Balthasar to set up their conversation about Beatrice s supposed love
for Benedick. They have Balthasar sing about men being unfaithful which leads into their
conversation about Benedick being too prideful for Beatrice (lines lines). Balthasar s song obviously
irritates Benedick, an he had been a dog that should have howled thus, they would have hanged him
(2.3.blank blank). The choice of song is intentional but not by Balthasar, but instead by Pedro and

Mystery Camp Creative Writing
After meticulously setting up our tent to perfection, we had time to reflect on how quickly our
grimaces had just turned to grins. Right there and then we agreed, as a group, to help anyone we found
that needed it in this place. No matter what the situation was. This was a pretty good first impression
to say the least. Now that we were settled, it was time to start our exploration! On the first day, the
actual Forest Venue does not open until 4:00pm, giving us time to check out as much of the vast
campsite as we could beforehand. We observed the layout, and how each row of tents was identified
by a street name. Who were these tents made up of? Would these strangers get along? Were they
anything like me? It was a little intimidating to think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The vibes are serene, friendly, and clear. Sunglasses allow you to stare out beyond the shade towards
the lakefront DJ sets. Everyone s vivid faces are full of smiles, happy for themselves and those around
them. Acoustic guitars can be heard from within the campsite as you come and go. Charcoal grills
burn, bubbles blow, dancers dance, and greetings are exchanged. Pure enjoyment and relaxation
encompass these days, a break from real life, and a break from an over stimulating society that was the
real world. It was this exact atmosphere that made me comfortable enough to introduce myself to
strangers, a skill I knew I would have to master at college at some point anyway. A particular group
was residing next to us on the grass one day, grooving to the Future Funk being played up ahead. They
were the same size of six, and looked to be around the same age. They had clearly recognized the
similarities as well, our stares intertwining more than

Summary Of Almost As Woman By Essmeralda Santiago
The Shared Socio Cultural Context: The Assimilation of American and Puerto Rican Identity in
Almost as Woman by Esmeralda Santiago
This literary analysis will define the development of a shared sociocultural context in the assimilation
of American and Puerto Rican identity in Almost a Woman by Esmeralda Santiago. Santiago s
autobiography defines the assimilation process of a young Puerto Rican girl that possess exceptional
talents as in the performing arts. At home, Santiago endured pressure from her mother to not pursue
Performing Arts, yet she was able to garner enough interest from the Performing Arts High School as
a primarily Anglo American institution. Santiago began the assimilation process into American
society, which demand new language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago defines the ideology of being Puerto Rican , and the changing assimilation process that
allows her to see her white classmates and teachers as friends or compatriots: If I looked at Performing
Arts strictly along racial lies, Mami was right; it was as school where almost all the students and
teachers were white... what I saw was not a school for blanquitos (Santiago 69). In this commentary
on American life, Santiago is intimated by her mother s racially exclusive view of American society,
but she learns that racism and cultural separatism is not practiced at the school. More so, Santiago is
accepted by her peers, which defines the overarching language and cultural barriers that are dissolved
in this assimilation process: This inspiring story of a teenage girl who overcomes language and
cultural barriers to achieve her dream stars new actress Ana Maria Lagasca as Esmeralda, nicknamed
Negi. (Masterpiece Theater para.2). these are important aspects of the shared sociocultural traits that
Santiago utilizes in order to preserve her Puerto Rican identity, yet not without embracing the Anglo
American values that she learns at the performing Arts High

Repatriation For Refugees From The United States
The options for resettlement for refugees are to return to their home country when there s peace, if
their country remains unstable or dangerous due to persecution and unable to return they are able to
stay in a refugee settlement in another country. Unfortunately, most host countries are unable to accept
refugees permanently. The United States generally only offer to refugees if their fleeing from
persecution and war. The U.S. government maintains a long established humanitarian program that
grants a limited number of refugees who are unable to return home or stay in a host country. Very little
of the refugees who have the opportunity of resettlement, there are three internationally accepted
solutions for refugees: Voluntary repatriation Refugees return to their country of nationality when
conditions have changed that allows them to return safety. Local integration Local settlement and
integration of refugees in their country of first asylum upon receiving agreement from the host
country. Resettlement Most frequently used for refugees whose life, safety, health or human rights are
at risk in their country where they have required refuge. When refugees come to the United State they
must rebuild their lives from disturbing and heartbreaking conditions. Majority of the refugees newly
adopted homeland with great energy and success, they go on to work, attend universities, build
professions, purchase homes, raise children and contribute to their communities.

Gross Domestic Product And Gross National Income
M2A2: National Income Accounting/
Gross Domestic Product and Gross National Income
Samantha Montero Renee Scott
After reading Economics: Principles and Tools, we understand that one is able to
measure the production of the entire economy by a tool known as the Gross Domestic Product
(GDP). GDP is defined as the total market value of all final goods and services, produced within
a country.1 It summarizes the entire production of an economy into a single number (GDP) and it
gauge s a country standard of living. Throughout this essay we will aim to explain both the main
components of GDP and it s differences from other forms of economic measurements, as well as
touch upon it s deficiencies as a measure of welfare. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

GDP, on top of having several different components, has a few different ways in which it
measures output. Two different measurements that are widely used are Nominal GDP and Real
GDP. The main difference between nominal GDP and real GDP is that nominal GDP doesn t
adjust for inflation and real GDP does. 2 While real GDP is adjusted for differences in price
levels, nominal GDP when calculated is not and, as a result, will often appear higher and can be
misleading. With measurements that require adjustments, one will always encounter
discrepancies. Gross domestic input or GDI measures the sum of all income earned while
producing goods and services within a nation s borders. 3 The difference between GDI and GDP
is that GDI calculates economic activity based on income, and GDP calculates economic activity
based on spending. While they are similar, the two measurements use different methods to gauge
the economy and thus, the data collected by GDP and GDI will almost never be the same.
According to Dr. Marilyn Waring in the film Who is Counting?4 As long as activity
passes through the market, it is good for growth. In the film Dr. Waring discusses the major

Why Are Fossils Important
Fossils can tell us a lot about the organisms that came before us. They are useful in dating when
certain evolutionary aspects were achieved in our past as we developed. Fossils have allowed us to
explore past civilizations and gives a major glimpse into the past. Fossils are a very important part in
the advancements of biological evolution. Biological evolution is the way scientists work to
understand the past, and to piece the puzzle of our ancestry together to understand how we have
evolved over time. Fossils are a large part of this field because it allows us to see physical evidence of
links between different species, and common ancestry between these species. By finding fossils of
civilizations that were sequential, we can compare bone

In the two divergent pieces of the Holocaust composition inform their audience with very similar
purposes. Yet both have contrast tones. In The Devil s Arithmetic,by Jane Yolen, stridulous conditions
are happening in the death camps. Yolen s purpose of writing Devil s Arithmetic is that she is

convincing us about what happens in the atrocious death camps. This contributes to Jane Yolen s tone
of compassion throughout the book because she knows that Jews have been through so much agony
and despair in the camps. They have sacrificed so much just to be alive. This shows prodigious
courage. Yolen also states, We forget because remembering is too painful. (Pg.163). This portrays on
how she feel on the Holocaust and that she can feel from experience how appalling it must feel. Yolen

Sarah was a curious girl. She had just turned 13 this summer. School had started and it was moving
painstakingly slowly. Sarah often got bored in their little town of Ashton in northern Maine. It was one
of those towns that you would never find on a map, or in real life. It was hidden behind a forest of
green pine trees, and they hardly ever had new residents. The only people who lived there had had
generations of family before them. Sarah was a part of one of those families. She had only left Ashton

He showed up while Sarah was in the middle of playing trucks with Jason, her little brother. Their

They quickly changed expressions. Nothing honey, there is just a new man in town. her mother said.
Sarah was confused. I didn t know new people ever came here. Her parents glanced at each other. Well

No Sarah, kitchen, now. Sarah knew there was no negotiating. Fine. she growled.

Water Shortage in California is Ruining the Farmers Essay
Water is a precious resource. It is the lifeblood of every living thing on Earth. California is in the
midst of a water crisis. Combined with a three (plus) year drought and many people moving into the
state there is not enough water to support the crops the farmers need to grow. There is also a tiny little
fish that is causing a mess in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. The Delta water pumps were turned
off to prevent the extinction of the tiny little fish. Some farmers have to let their fields sit idle for the
fall and spring planting season. This is causing a lot of problems in California. The pumps need to be
turned back on. The needs of the people should come before that of a fish.
California is an ever growing state, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sacramento San Joaquin Delta supplies almost two thirds of the state with water. Many plants and
animals live in the Delta. One of them is a tiny three inch fish called the Delta smelt. It is due to the
endangerment of this fish that the pumps that supply many of the farmlands in the state with water to
grow crops were shut off. The fish were getting caught in the pumps. This caused the
environmentalists to file a suit to get the pumps shut off. When the suit was won it was hard blow to
the farmers. Having to worry about getting enough rain every year is enough of a burden to them.
Now the water they need to grow crops was shut off for a fish. Humanity is more important than a tiny
fish.
Due to the shut off many farmers did not get the rationing of water they need to plant, so many fields
will sit idle this fall and spring. California produces 53% of the nation s fruits and vegetables.
California is also the leading food producer to the world. Some people do not even know California is
facing a water crisis, and more of them did not know California is the Nation s food producer. In a
recent survey 76% knew of the water crisis; however, only 56% of them knew that California is the
leading food producer. With many of the state s fields sitting idle this fall and spring it is going to
cause the produce prices to increase. It also causes the loss of thousands of jobs. An outraged woman

Major Themes Evident In The Book Thief
Major Themes Evident In The Book Thief Nowadays, we take the ability to read for granted. But for
Liesel Meminger, the opportunity to learn how to read was a gift. In the novel The Book Thief, by
Markus Zusak, more than one major theme relating to books and writing are evident. The power of
words, literature, and reading, are all contributing to the overall theme of the power of books and
writing in The Book Thief. Words are an everyday part of our life, but when we think about it they
hold more value then we could ever imagine. They are our source of communication, and without
words there would be a broken bond between one another. In the same way, words were the root of the
bond between Liesel and Hans. Hans, Liesel s stepfather, paints

Cerebrospinal Fluid Analysis Paper
ngiography is a test used to detect blockages of the arteries or veins. It is used to diagnose stroke and
to determine the location and size of a brain tumor, aneurysm, or vascular malformation. This test is
usually performed in a hospital outpatient setting and takes up to 3 hours, followed by a 6 to 8 hour
resting period. The patient, wearing a hospital or imaging gown, lies on a table that is wheeled into the
imaging area. While the patient is awake, a physician anesthetizes a small area of the leg near the
groin and then inserts a catheter into a major artery located there. The catheter is threaded through the
body and into an artery in the neck. Once the catheter is in place, the needle is removed and a guide

The Electrical Impulses Are Used For Stimulating The...
BACKGROUND
AREA OF APPLICABILITY
The electrical impulses are used for stimulating the contraction of muscles which is known as
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or
electromyostimulation. The muscle tissue was stimulated by the impulses produced by a device and
were delivered on the skin through the electrodes close to the targeted stimulated muscle. These
electrodes are the pads that will adhere to the skin of the animal. The stimulated muscles contract by
the impulses which act as an action potential coming from the central nervous system. It is shown in
some studies that the electrical stimulation has the ability to increase the strength.1 Therefore, it can
be used to treat the damaged muscles. It has been utilized as a potential for strength training tool in
healthy subjects, a rehabilitation and preventive tool for patients with mobility defects, a testing tool
for the neural and/or muscular function in vivo, and a post exercise recovery tool for athletes.2 The
number of electrical stimulation sessions varies across muscle rehabilitation protocols.3
MOTIVATION OF THE PROBLEM
In the project the paw of a mouse is stimulated by the electrical stimulation which leads to neuronal
activities within the cortex along with vascular change. The task of the project was to image the
change in neuronal activities within the cortex. With application of the electrical stimulation, the

Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay
A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The
purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567 1643)
and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to find out
how music changed throughout the Baroque period.
While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the
music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time
period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two
composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was taken
to chose composers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect or
somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the only
psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no
indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor
throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation,
consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript. Some
people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually be
mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the
lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era
this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send.
While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in some respects not
very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in common
such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some churches
still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many
churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Aside from that,
Monteverdi, being more

Mark Twain s Cone-Pone Opinions
According to Webster Dictionary, conformity is defined as, in compliance of rules, laws, or standards.
Mark Twain s, Cone pone Opinions, demonstrates how society reacts to new conformities; individuals
eventually conform to popular ideas and inevitably abandon these ideas for something greater. Twain
states, It is our nature to conform; it is force which not many can successfully resist. (Twain 2). The
reason people conform is not for self approval, but rather, for the approval of others. In his essay,
Twain discusses the flaring hoopskirt and how individuals were appalled at first. Six months later,
everyone admires hoopskirts and no one laughs anymore. However, the hoopskirt has disappeared in
the same way. One woman who abandoned this fashion influenced others to abandon it as well. This
demonstrates that society establishes habits, fashions, and trends only to please others and will
abandon those same habits, fashions, and trends to again please others. Therefore, the ... Show more

In William James s, The Moral Equivalent of War, he explores the barbaric ways of war and promotes
world peace. The purpose of James s essay is to demonstrate that mankind cannot achieve a perfect,
warless society until there is a moral equivalent of war such as a substitute for war s disciplinary
function. The duties, penalties, and sanctions pictured in the utopias they paint are all too weak and
tame to touch the military minded. (James 51). Furthermore, James adds that peace cannot be sought
unless we maintain some military discipline. ...I do not believe that peace either ought to be or will be
permanent on this globe, unless the states pacifically organized preserve some of the old elements of
army discipline. A permanently successful peace economy cannot be a simple pleasure economy. (53).
Thus, humans need an equal balance of peace and war to attain a faultless

The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet
Biology report
Aim of this investigation
The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and
the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens rocks
between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our chosen
organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tide zone, mid tide zone,
and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare rock platforms
with rock gulley s.
Description of limpets
Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller
shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the
limpet moves around on.
Identification of organisms
Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets can
have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe absent,
the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey with fine
radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of white specks.
Biology of organisms
An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there and
its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the ornate

Obey To A Collectivist Culture Analysis
I believe that individuals in collectivistic cultures tend to obey an authority figure more than
individuals in individualistic cultures. In collectivism, cooperation is the norm; people are expected to
conform to the community, and interdependence is highly valued. The interest of the community is
always taken into consideration when problems arise, when decisions are made, and when conflicts
erupt. However, having read about the obedience experiments performed at Yale in the 1960s by
professor Stanley Milgram, I am not sure that this particular dimension of culture is the only factor
that is to be considered when deciding who would obey to an authority figure. I believe that other
dimensions of culture need to be taken into consideration

Rwandan Genocide The Angels Have Left Us by Hugh McCullum, discusses the African tragedy that
took place in Rwanda, which resulted in the murder of over one million victims. The Rwanda
genocide was between two groups, the Hutu and the Tutsi. Hutu were considered to be the natives and
indigenous to the land, where Tutsi were considered to be the non native settlers who were non
indigenous. Through propaganda and myth, the tension of ethnic hatred would slowly crumble the

Road blocks where ID cards could be checked were large killing sights. Bodies of Tutsi, Hutu, and
Tutsi sympathizers could be seen left in large piles on the side of the road, scattered throughout the
streets, and inside homes and churches. Many victims fled to hospitals, schools, and churches in hopes
of sanctuary, but for many they became their tombs. Rwanda Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungo
stated, We have the same language, the same religions. There is no song or dance or drum beat that is
peculiar to one or the other of our people. We had disputed before the colonial period over things like
land ownership, and sometimes there were little fights, but the chiefs dealt with it in the traditional
way and never did we suffer destruction like we have just experienced (1). The racist theories of
earlier colonizers tried to differentiate the two groups based on physical appearances. Belgians
considered Tutsi to be more European and were given educational advantages. Hutu were excluded
from all levels of power and left as a minority position. These disadvantages along with the nations
poverty, over population from refugees, land pressures, and ecological degradation would rage the
extremists and fuel their hatred. Rebels (interahamwe) and Hutu extremists hunted Tutsi. The
propaganda was fed through the Radio stations giving Hutu ideas of how to find, capture, and kill

The Theorist That I Chose To Write About Is Jean Piaget.
The theorist that I chose to write about is Jean Piaget. His theory deals with the nature of knowledge
itself and how humans gradually come to acquire it. His theory is basically known as the
developmental stage theory. In the developmental stage theory there are four different stages of the
developmental theory: the sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational and formal operational
period.
Jean Piaget was born in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) on August 9, 1896. He was the oldest child of Arthur
Piaget and Rebecca Jackson. At age 11, when he was just a mere child at Neuchâtel Latin high school,
he wrote a short paper on an albino sparrow. This short notice is usually the start of an intelligent
scientific career made of over 60 books ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He died in Geneva on September, 1980.
Piaget s theory consisted of three different stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete
Operational, and Formal Operational. I ll start out by talking about the first one, sensorimotor. During
the sensorimotor stage, infants and toddlers acquire knowledge through sensory experiences and
manipulating objects. It was his observations of his daughter and nephew that heavily influenced his
conception of this stage. At this point in development, a child s intelligence consists of their basic
motor and sensory explorations of the world. Piaget believed that developing object constancy, the
understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, played an important role
at this point of development. By learning that objects are separate and distinct items and that they have
a presence of their own outside of what an individual perceives it to be, children are then able to begin
to attach names and words to objects. The next stage in the developmental theory is the Preoperational
stage. At this stage, kids learn through pretend play but still struggle with logic and taking the point of
view of other people. They also often struggle with understanding the ideal of constancy. For example,
a researcher might take a lump of clay, divide it into two equal pieces, and then give a child the choice
between two pieces of clay to play with. One piece of clay is rolled into a compact ball

Sociology and Religion
Introduction
Religion plays a major role in American society today. The stance that people take on their religion
can affect the social and political choices that they make. Having a loving God view and relationship
with him also takes place in these decisions being made. Researchers Unnever, Bartkowski and Cullen
explore in their article, God Imagery and Opposition to Abortion and Capital Punishment: A Partial
Test of Religious Support for the Consistent Life Ethic , as to whether having a close relationship with
God will allow people to oppose both capital punishment and abortion, the consistent life ethic.
Research Question The hypothesis that researchers concluded for the consistent life ethic study was
that, We [the researchers] hypothesize that Americans who have a close relationship with a loving God
will be more likely to oppose both abortion and the death penalty (Unnever, Bartkowski Cullen ,
2010). The particular interest in following this inquiry was because of the fact that there is first of all,
not much research regarding this particular topic on the consistent life ethic . The importance of
finding out this information comes from several different reasons. The first being that, it is crucial to
analyze the attitude on these two topics because it will provide a census on the quantity of individuals
who hold a consistent life ethic, how viewing God as loving impacts Americans on these moral and
political issues. Secondly, both of these topics require a

Tom Gatsby Character Analysis
Imagine if you had a father that left, a crippled sister, and a mother that only cared about herself. For
Tom Wingfield, this is exactly what his family is like. Tom s father left years before the play takes
place, Amanda only cares about herself, and Laura is crippled and painfully shy. For Tom, this means
he has to help his family and stay at home because Amanda does not help Laura. Tom, Amanda, and
Laura each try to escape reality and resort to things they love to do.
Amanda has a very hard time raising Laura, so for Tom, this means that he has to help out a lot. While
trying to pay the bills and take care of his family, Tom has to find ways to escape his stressful life.
After work almost every day, it is likely for Tom to go out and do something. I go to the movies
because I like adventure (33). Amanda asks Tom why he goes to the movies so often and he says it is
because he likes adventure. At home, Tom always has to take care of Laura and Amanda so a way to
escape the stress of this, he goes to the movies. Tom wishes that instead of staying at home to take
care of his family, that he could leave just like his father. People go to the movies instead of moving!
(61). What Tom is saying is about himself, instead of moving out and leaving forever, Tom goes to the
movies to escape his family and the hatred towards his job. Amanda should be focusing on the present,
but instead, she needs to escape the reality of her problems.
Amanda has a very hard time accepting the

A Brief Note On William Edward Hartpole Lecky
There are times in the lives of most of us, when we would have given all the world to be as we were
but yesterday, though that yesterday had passed over us unappreciated and unenjoyed. William
Edward Hartpole Lecky THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS When my dad passed away last July, it
was tough. It was halfway through the summer, I had just graduated from high school, and I was
preparing to embark on the exciting and nerve wracking journey that is college. All the while, I was
living life in my own little world, detached and disconnected from those closest to me. Most of my
days consisted of working one job or another (at the time I was juggling three, for no justifiable
reason), and my days off consisted of sleeping in, spending lazy afternoons by the pool, evenings by
the fire with friends, and late nights of Netflix. But I got lost in that little world. I forgot to be present,
mindful, and most of all appreciative. So when my dad, who was neither sick nor ill, didn t wake up
from his sleep one morning, Reality didn t just bring me back down to earth. It hit me. Hard. In the
first few nights after my dad passed away, I couldn t sleep. During the day, I couldn t eat. In the
mornings, I would step into the shower, curl into a ball, and hope that the sound of the water running
would muffle my wailing and sobbing. In the face of it all, I had the misconception that it was my
responsibility and duty to never shed a tear around others, to always maintain an optimistic tone,

Erich Maria Remarque s All Quiet On The Western Front
Book Review of All Quiet on the Western Front Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an
end to mankind. During his address to the United Nations General Assembly in 1961, John F.
Kennedy explained how war was an unnecessary and detrimental action to take for means of peace.
This quote exhibits the true values of the protagonist in the novel All Quiet on the Western Front
written by Erich Maria Remarque. The novel All Quiet on the Western Front is a remarkable way to
immerse into the lives of German soldiers during World War One due to the fact the author had
firsthand experience in the life of the war. To put it briefly, All Quiet on the Western Front is
considered the greatest war novel of all time by many sources and critics from all over the world such
as Redakteur Stohr, the Manchester Guardian, Le Monde, the Swedish Academy, and the Saturday
Review. The novel centers on the protagonist, Paul Bäumer, and his encounters while he and his
classmates were enlisted in the German army during World War One. The novel introduces the many
of the main characters in chapter one when the regiment is in line at the cookhouse to get their evening
ration of food. Paul encounters his first experience with death early in the novel when one of his
classmates dies in army hospital after they amputated his leg. In chapter three, the novel ... Show more

If Erich Maria Remarque had not served in the German army, the perspective of the book could be
completely different, or the book might not have been written. All Quiet on the Western Front was
written in the late 1920s. The time the book was written shows there was bias from the author in the
book because he had firsthand experiences with World War One. Also, since the book was written less
than ten years after the war ended, the familiarities of the war were still present on his

Essay on Technology System Options in Restaurants
When opening a new restaurant it is important to consider technology options that will offer
competitive advantage, enhance profit, and work efficiently for the establishment. Three systems that
are generally purchased for restaurant use are inventory systems, point of sales systems, and
reservation management systems. All of these systems should be researched and compared on their
functionality so the most suitable technologies can be implemented into the daily activities of the
restaurant. An inventory management system would be a great asset to any restaurant. It is very
important to be able to keep track of inventory to make sure items are being used and food costs are

A point of sales system is another great addition to nay growing business. The POS has many
functions. The POS will contain a register for purchases, have the ability to track reports and menu
maintenance, improve service speed, and enhance customer service. To increase service speed, the
POS efficiently makes order entries that are then transferred to the kitchen. This results in fewer
mistakes and the ability to track ticket and wait times. The system also has the function of splitting
checks and makes card processing simple. This ensures more seat turnover and shorter wait times for
the customers. In return this has the potential to increase revenue at every service. POS can create
loyalty programs that ensure repeat customers and generate more sales of gift cards. POS provides
operational control that analyzes detailed reports to drill down on sales, server and restaurant
performance (NCR 2013). A software like ALOHA also provides a training interface that allows new
employees to learn the system quickly. This reduces the cost a restaurant would ultimately have to pay
on training new employees. The ALOHA system is very up to date with new technology trends,
providing mobile and digital signage and cloud based solutions and social technologies. The variety of
functions in a point of sales system makes it very attractive to new restaurant owners. The cost of a
POS can range hundreds to thousands of dollars based on the size of the

Green Mile Ethics
THE GREEN MILE MINI ESSAY The Green Mile, a 1999 film directed by Frank Darabont, focuses
on virtue ethics. Paul Edgecombe (played by Tom Hanks) is in charge of overseeing executions by
electric chair, and one of the inmates on death row is a huge black man, John Coffey (Michael Clarke
Duncan), who convicted based on circumstantial evident of the murder of two white children. In
contrast to his menacing size, Coffey is quite childlike in his innocence, as well as a magical healer

Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
A writer s text is often the window to their soul, the truest reflection of their deepest thoughts. This
could not be more valid than in the case of Franz Kafka. Franz Kafka is one of the greatest German
writers to ever live. He uses his craft to construct abstract, puzzling stories of various characters and
situations that tug at, or rather tear the reader s heart strings. Kafka s style of writing is so
groundbreaking that it receives its own term, Kafkaesque. This term s denotation describes the
anticlimactic, depressing texts with often no catharsis for the reader. The connotation depicts the
frustrating, bureaucratic situations Kafka creates. The way in which Kafka writes these tragedies is
profound; every word has an underlying meaning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This all encompasses the theme that Franz Kafka often displays: life is meaningless. Many writers
cannot write in the way that Kafka does. In fact, many writers simply write what the reader wants to
hear, whereas Kafka does the opposite. This is ultimately what draws readers to the many stories of
Franz Kafka. From the beginning of the novella, the reader could predict the outcome. The key reason
that the reader is able to do this is because of the motif of doors in The Metamorphosis. The doors
serve as an insight into the Samsa family s hypocritical ways. Kafka explains Gregor s progression
from wanting to escape, to his family trapping him, to him wanting to be trapped, and ultimately to
Gregor trapping himself all through the doors. Some may argue that the doors serve no purpose at all.
After all there are many interpretations of this text, that is what makes the text great. Franz Kafka
chooses to write in this way, so that the reader may interpret the text in whatever way he or she sees
fit. Kafka leaves the reader to decide whether Gregor or his family lead to his ultimate

The Effect Of Cost On The Profitability Of The Businesses...
Introduction
All businesses work with the main objective of making a profit. The determination of the profitability
of the businesses will depend on the assessment of various factors of production as they contribute to
the final income. The most primitive way of expressing the profit of a firm is through the subtraction
of the costs from the revenues. Fixed cost is costs that are not changeable over a long period of time
while the variable costs do change as time changes. Traditionally, the statement of accounts and
profitability only took into consideration the interplay between the two factors costs and revenues. In
this traditional statement, variable costs and fixed cost were treated similarly. The separation of the
costs as either fixed cost or variable cost came into being with the advent of the margin statement. In
simplest terms, contribution margin has been used to indicate the result of excess between the
revenues and the variable costs. The contribution margin is therefore, an in depth statement of profit to
take to account a lot of other financial variables in the like revenues, expenses, profits, and losses
among others. Gross profit is a crude profit since it does not entirely belong to the company s revenue.
These are some of the loopholes in the accounting that the contribution margin exists to seal and it
does this through the consideration of net profit in the accounting period other than the gross profit.
The most important application of the contribution

1) Over the last century our planets temp. has risen 1 degree. I know that doesn t sound like much but
it s been enough to melt a lot of the polar ice caps and glaciers. A) The hottest years ever recorded
were in the late 1990 s and early 2000 s. B) In 2007 there was a massive polar ice melt and the amount
of glaciers and sea ice has decreased quite a bit since the 70 s. This has already caused the sea levels to

4) Th extra heat our homes produce also adversely affects the planet. A) By sealing and insulating our
homes better we can help stop that and save money on our energy bills. B) Also instead of turning up
the heat when your cold, put on an extra layer of clothes. Again you ll be saving energy and money. C)
If at all possible, use solar energy. After all it s free, all you have to do is buy the equipment. And you
would be helping to ensure that our ancestors still have a planet to live on. D) Finally, by turning off
unused power sources such as tv s and computers, again you will be helping the environment as well
as saving money on energy bills.
Conclusion: If we all would do as many things that we possibly can to help reduce greenhouse gasses
in our atmosphere, we would all be doing a great thing by helping to ensure that our grand kids and
theirs will still have this beautiful planet to live on and enjoy. Thank

What Happens When Eating Gluten-Free
I used to eat out often with my wife before I discovered I had Celiac Disease. That all changed when I
had to start eating gluten free. You see, a few years ago the words gluten free and Celiac Disease were
almost non existent. I didn t know until years later how to find out which restaurants I could eat gluten
free food at.
Really, no matter what state you live in or even if there are not many advertised gluten free restaurants
near you, you can find places to eat out. Here s what you do. First, simply think of a restaurant you
would like to eat at. Second, go on their website to read up on their menu. More and more restaurants
are providing information on their websites about how they prepare their food and which items are
gluten free. As you re looking at your favorite restaurant s website, if you don t see any info about
gluten free items, chances are good that they don t have anything gluten free. Here s the thing, though,
give them a call and ask them about how they prepare their food. If you notice a menu item that doesn
t have gluten ingredients you can ask them how they prepare it. This way you can find out if it comes
in contact with gluten. I ve done this and have had great results. ... Show more content on

The Gunpowder Plot
carry out its criminal activities with the objective of using violence in order to meet political ends,
such as overthrowing or destabilizing an existing socio political system.
Now, looking back at the Gunpowder Plot it can be stated that it fits the definition on each point that
Symeonidou Kastanidou (2004) brings about. They were a group of thirteen skilled man, who planned
an attack on parliament. Attack was planned over the certain period of time, they had finance and
equipment (thirty six barrels of gunpowder, fuse and a fire) to carry out an attack. Equipped with
religious grievances and the intention to kill the King and members of the parliament (symbolic place,
that is where all the mischief happened according to Catesby). Death of the king would have had
brought change of the regime from the Protestant rule to the Catholic reign or created social
dissatisfaction and condemnation (Fraser, 1996). Schmid (1992 cited in Lutz and Lutz, 2013) states

In case of the Gunpowder Plot, if the Plot would have failed to achieve its intended purpose, plotters
expected at least to evoke condemnation of the society towards the King. The most definitive feature
of terrorism in Butko s (2006) opinion is the threat of violence or use of violence towards innocent
people, if all of the barrels with the gunpowder would have been ignited the casualties would have

The Turning Point For A Woman In The 1900 s The Awakening
Although The Awakening may be seen as a tragic love story to some, it is truly a novel that displays
the turning point for a woman s role in the 1900 s. The main character, Edna Pontellier, is the epitome
of the new working woman. The story centers around Edna s discovery of her beliefs which are found
through a series of awakenings and contrasted with the social norms of the time. Through the story
Edna becomes more and more uneasy about not being able to do and have what she really wants. This
can be shown from the beginning when she lets her children play by themselves and doesn t miss her
husband when he is away from home. Edna tried to be a good mother by becoming friends with an old
fashioned woman, Madame Adèle Ratignolle, who devoted her life to her husband and children.
However, when Edna was not around Madame Adèle Ratignolle, she forgot how to be like Adèle
Ratignolle and instead busied herself with what was considered to be her childish ways . She would
try to make herself as happy as possible; she was not her happiest with her husband and kids. When
Edna discovered her passion for art, she embraced it and neglected her family even more so than
before. Whether coerced or through self realizations, there were many awakenings in the book. The
first was that Edna was not the traditional mother like Adèle, the second was that she enjoyed doing
things for herself instead of for her children and husband. This second awakening is shown when Edna
takes time to talk

  • 2. Atyotypical BCR-ABL Translocation This paper is a short case study focused on a patient with an atypical BCR ABL translocation in CML. The 80 year old male patient presented with a history of two months of worsening fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath and weight loss. Blood tests showed mild anemia, normal platelets, and leukocytosis with elevated myelocytes and metamyelocytes. The bone marrow aspirate showed a hypercellular marrow with 90% myeloid cells, but no myeloblasts. A karyotype was performed on the cells from the marrow aspirate; it revealed the Philadelphia chromosome translocation. This confirmed the diagnosis of CML. Further PCR study was done on the patient s RNA and it revealed an atypical band on the gel. This band was purified from the gel and sequenced. It revealed the rare presence of the e1a3 BCR ABL exon combination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This absence predisposes the patient s cells to growth factor independence and therefore transformation. Another aspect of the transformation of note is that the proliferation takes longer due to slower leukemogenesis. This gives this disease an indolent course, which makes it particularly difficult to detect. The patient in this case was put on 400mg of Imatinib daily. The CML responded well to the treatment, the patient s blood and marrow studies normalized. However, after five months the patient developed a lymphoid blast crisis. Bone marrow studies showed 94% lymphoid blast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Balthasar And Feste Balthasar and Feste fulfill the same role of paid entertainers that are kept around to make the nobility laugh. This role seems like one that Shakespeare used simply to continue the progression of the play. This argument is mostly true with Balthasar who we learn very little about and who appears only when the plot necessitates it. On the other hand, Feste is a much more complex and central character. Shakespeare uses Feste to insert his own commentary about the play and the characters in it. Feste displays more cynicism and bitterness than other characters and his songs do not always align with the tone of the play. With Balthasar and Feste, Shakespeare takes two characters that fulfill the same role and has used them in entirely different ways to reach the goals he wants to achieve. Balthasar s first appearance is in the palace orchard where Benedick is hiding. He sings a song about men being unfaithful, Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more, Men were deceivers ever, (2.3.blank blank). Don Pedro and Claudio are using Balthasar to set up their conversation about Beatrice s supposed love for Benedick. They have Balthasar sing about men being unfaithful which leads into their conversation about Benedick being too prideful for Beatrice (lines lines). Balthasar s song obviously irritates Benedick, an he had been a dog that should have howled thus, they would have hanged him (2.3.blank blank). The choice of song is intentional but not by Balthasar, but instead by Pedro and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Right there and then we agreed, as a group, to help anyone we found that needed it in this place. No matter what the situation was. This was a pretty good first impression to say the least. Now that we were settled, it was time to start our exploration! On the first day, the actual Forest Venue does not open until 4:00pm, giving us time to check out as much of the vast campsite as we could beforehand. We observed the layout, and how each row of tents was identified by a street name. Who were these tents made up of? Would these strangers get along? Were they anything like me? Pure enjoyment and relaxation encompass these days, a break from real life, and a break from an over stimulating society that was the real world. It was this exact atmosphere that made me comfortable enough to introduce myself to strangers, a skill I knew I would have to master at college at some point anyway. Summary Of Almost As Woman By Essmeralda Santiago The Shared Socio Cultural Context: The Assimilation of American and Puerto Rican Identity in Almost as Woman by Esmeralda Santiago This literary analysis will define the development of a shared sociocultural context in the assimilation of American and Puerto Rican identity in Almost a Woman by Esmeralda Santiago. Santiago s autobiography defines the assimilation process of a young Puerto Rican girl that possess exceptional talents as in the performing arts. At home, Santiago endured pressure from her mother to not pursue Performing Arts, yet she was able to garner enough interest from the Performing Arts High School as a primarily Anglo American institution. Santiago defines the ideology of being Puerto Rican , and the changing assimilation process that allows her to see her white classmates and teachers as friends or compatriots: If I looked at Performing Arts strictly along racial lies, Mami was right; it was as school where almost all the students and teachers were white... what I saw was not a school for blanquitos (Santiago 69). In this commentary on American life, Santiago is intimated by her mother s racially exclusive view of American society, but she learns that racism and cultural separatism is not practiced at the school. More so, Santiago is accepted by her peers, which defines the overarching language and cultural barriers that are dissolved in this assimilation process: This inspiring story of a teenage girl who overcomes language and cultural barriers to achieve her dream stars new actress Ana Maria Lagasca as Esmeralda, nicknamed Negi. • 12. Water Shortage in California is Ruining the Farmers Essay Water is a precious resource. It is the lifeblood of every living thing on Earth. California is in the midst of a water crisis. Combined with a three (plus) year drought and many people moving into the state there is not enough water to support the crops the farmers need to grow. There is also a tiny little fish that is causing a mess in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. The Delta water pumps were turned off to prevent the extinction of the tiny little fish. Some farmers have to let their fields sit idle for the fall and spring planting season. This is causing a lot of problems in California. The pumps need to be turned back on. The needs of the people should come before that of a fish. California is an ever growing state, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Sacramento San Joaquin Delta supplies almost two thirds of the state with water. Many plants and animals live in the Delta. One of them is a tiny three inch fish called the Delta smelt. It is due to the endangerment of this fish that the pumps that supply many of the farmlands in the state with water to grow crops were shut off. The fish were getting caught in the pumps. This caused the environmentalists to file a suit to get the pumps shut off. When the suit was won it was hard blow to the farmers. Having to worry about getting enough rain every year is enough of a burden to them. Now the water they need to grow crops was shut off for a fish. Humanity is more important than a tiny fish. Due to the shut off many farmers did not get the rationing of water they need to plant, so many fields will sit idle this fall and spring. California produces 53% of the nation s fruits and vegetables. California is also the leading food producer to the world. Some people do not even know California is facing a water crisis, and more of them did not know California is the Nation s food producer. In a recent survey 76% knew of the water crisis; however, only 56% of them knew that California is the leading food producer. The power of words, literature, and reading, are all contributing to the overall theme of the power of books and writing in The Book Thief. Words are an everyday part of our life, but when we think about it they hold more value then we could ever imagine. • 15. The Electrical Impulses Are Used For Stimulating The... BACKGROUND AREA OF APPLICABILITY The electrical impulses are used for stimulating the contraction of muscles which is known as Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation. The muscle tissue was stimulated by the impulses produced by a device and were delivered on the skin through the electrodes close to the targeted stimulated muscle. These electrodes are the pads that will adhere to the skin of the animal. The stimulated muscles contract by the impulses which act as an action potential coming from the central nervous system. It is shown in some studies that the electrical stimulation has the ability to increase the strength.1 Therefore, it can be used to treat the damaged muscles. It has been utilized as a potential for strength training tool in healthy subjects, a rehabilitation and preventive tool for patients with mobility defects, a testing tool for the neural and/or muscular function in vivo, and a post exercise recovery tool for athletes.2 The number of electrical stimulation sessions varies across muscle rehabilitation protocols.3 MOTIVATION OF THE PROBLEM In the project the paw of a mouse is stimulated by the electrical stimulation which leads to neuronal activities within the cortex along with vascular change. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation, consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send. While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. • 17. Mark Twain s Cone-Pone Opinions According to Webster Dictionary, conformity is defined as, in compliance of rules, laws, or standards. Mark Twain s, Cone pone Opinions, demonstrates how society reacts to new conformities; individuals eventually conform to popular ideas and inevitably abandon these ideas for something greater. Twain states, It is our nature to conform; it is force which not many can successfully resist. (Twain 2). The reason people conform is not for self approval, but rather, for the approval of others. In his essay, Twain discusses the flaring hoopskirt and how individuals were appalled at first. Six months later, everyone admires hoopskirts and no one laughs anymore. However, the hoopskirt has disappeared in the same way. One woman who abandoned this fashion influenced others to abandon it as well. This demonstrates that society establishes habits, fashions, and trends only to please others and will abandon those same habits, fashions, and trends to again please others. Therefore, the ... • 18. The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet Biology report Aim of this investigation The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tide zone, mid tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare rock platforms with rock gulley s. Description of limpets Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the limpet moves around on. Identification of organisms Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of white specks. Biology of organisms An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there and its adaptions. In collectivism, cooperation is the norm; people are expected to conform to the community, and interdependence is highly valued. The interest of the community is always taken into consideration when problems arise, when decisions are made, and when conflicts erupt. However, having read about the obedience experiments performed at Yale in the 1960s by professor Stanley Milgram, I am not sure that this particular dimension of culture is the only factor that is to be considered when deciding who would obey to an authority figure. The Rwanda genocide was between two groups, the Hutu and the Tutsi. Hutu were considered to be the natives and indigenous to the land, where Tutsi were considered to be the non native settlers who were non indigenous. Rwanda Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungo stated, We have the same language, the same religions. There is no song or dance or drum beat that is peculiar to one or the other of our people. We had disputed before the colonial period over things like land ownership, and sometimes there were little fights, but the chiefs dealt with it in the traditional way and never did we suffer destruction like we have just experienced (1). The racist theories of earlier colonizers tried to differentiate the two groups based on physical appearances. Belgians considered Tutsi to be more European and were given educational advantages. Hutu were excluded from all levels of power and left as a minority position. These disadvantages along with the nations poverty, over population from refugees, land pressures, and ecological degradation would rage the extremists and fuel their hatred. His theory deals with the nature of knowledge itself and how humans gradually come to acquire it. His theory is basically known as the developmental stage theory. In the developmental stage theory there are four different stages of the developmental theory: the sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational and formal operational period. Jean Piaget was born in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) on August 9, 1896. He was the oldest child of Arthur Piaget and Rebecca Jackson. At age 11, when he was just a mere child at Neuchâtel Latin high school, he wrote a short paper on an albino sparrow. Piaget s theory consisted of three different stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational. I ll start out by talking about the first one, sensorimotor. During the sensorimotor stage, infants and toddlers acquire knowledge through sensory experiences and manipulating objects. It was his observations of his daughter and nephew that heavily influenced his conception of this stage. At this point in development, a child s intelligence consists of their basic motor and sensory explorations of the world. Piaget believed that developing object constancy, the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, played an important role at this point of development. By learning that objects are separate and distinct items and that they have a presence of their own outside of what an individual perceives it to be, children are then able to begin to attach names and words to objects. The next stage in the developmental theory is the Preoperational stage. At this stage, kids learn through pretend play but still struggle with logic and taking the point of view of other people. They also often struggle with understanding the ideal of constancy. For example, a researcher might take a lump of clay, divide it into two equal pieces, and then give a child the choice between two pieces of clay to play with. The stance that people take on their religion can affect the social and political choices that they make. Having a loving God view and relationship with him also takes place in these decisions being made. Researchers Unnever, Bartkowski and Cullen explore in their article, God Imagery and Opposition to Abortion and Capital Punishment: A Partial Test of Religious Support for the Consistent Life Ethic , as to whether having a close relationship with God will allow people to oppose both capital punishment and abortion, the consistent life ethic. Research Question The hypothesis that researchers concluded for the consistent life ethic study was that, We [the researchers] hypothesize that Americans who have a close relationship with a loving God will be more likely to oppose both abortion and the death penalty (Unnever, Bartkowski Cullen , 2010). The particular interest in following this inquiry was because of the fact that there is first of all, not much research regarding this particular topic on the consistent life ethic . The importance of finding out this information comes from several different reasons. The first being that, it is crucial to analyze the attitude on these two topics because it will provide a census on the quantity of individuals who hold a consistent life ethic, how viewing God as loving impacts Americans on these moral and political issues. William Edward Hartpole Lecky THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS When my dad passed away last July, it was tough. It was halfway through the summer, I had just graduated from high school, and I was preparing to embark on the exciting and nerve wracking journey that is college. All the while, I was living life in my own little world, detached and disconnected from those closest to me. Most of my days consisted of working one job or another (at the time I was juggling three, for no justifiable reason), and my days off consisted of sleeping in, spending lazy afternoons by the pool, evenings by the fire with friends, and late nights of Netflix. But I got lost in that little world. I forgot to be present, mindful, and most of all appreciative. So when my dad, who was neither sick nor ill, didn t wake up from his sleep one morning, Reality didn t just bring me back down to earth. It hit me. Hard. In the first few nights after my dad passed away, I couldn t sleep. During the day, I couldn t eat. In the mornings, I would step into the shower, curl into a ball, and hope that the sound of the water running would muffle my wailing and sobbing. Kafka s style of writing is so groundbreaking that it receives its own term, Kafkaesque. This term s denotation describes the anticlimactic, depressing texts with often no catharsis for the reader. • 30. The Effect Of Cost On The Profitability Of The Businesses... Introduction All businesses work with the main objective of making a profit. The determination of the profitability of the businesses will depend on the assessment of various factors of production as they contribute to the final income. The most primitive way of expressing the profit of a firm is through the subtraction of the costs from the revenues. Fixed cost is costs that are not changeable over a long period of time while the variable costs do change as time changes. Traditionally, the statement of accounts and profitability only took into consideration the interplay between the two factors costs and revenues. In this traditional statement, variable costs and fixed cost were treated similarly. The separation of the costs as either fixed cost or variable cost came into being with the advent of the margin statement. In simplest terms, contribution margin has been used to indicate the result of excess between the revenues and the variable costs. The contribution margin is therefore, an in depth statement of profit to take to account a lot of other financial variables in the like revenues, expenses, profits, and losses among others. Gross profit is a crude profit since it does not entirely belong to the company s revenue. These are some of the loopholes in the accounting that the contribution margin exists to seal and it does this through the consideration of net profit in the accounting period other than the gross profit. The Turning Point For A Woman In The 1900 s The Awakening Although The Awakening may be seen as a tragic love story to some, it is truly a novel that displays the turning point for a woman s role in the 1900 s. The main character, Edna Pontellier, is the epitome of the new working woman. The story centers around Edna s discovery of her beliefs which are found through a series of awakenings and contrasted with the social norms of the time. Through the story Edna becomes more and more uneasy about not being able to do and have what she really wants. This can be shown from the beginning when she lets her children play by themselves and doesn t miss her husband when he is away from home. Edna tried to be a good mother by becoming friends with an old fashioned woman, Madame Adèle Ratignolle, who devoted her life to her husband and children. However, when Edna was not around Madame Adèle Ratignolle, she forgot how to be like Adèle Ratignolle and instead busied herself with what was considered to be her childish ways . She would try to make herself as happy as possible; she was not her happiest with her husband and kids. When Edna discovered her passion for art, she embraced it and neglected her family even more so than before. Whether coerced or through self realizations, there were many awakenings in the book.
