Band Is More Than Just Playing An Instrument Essay
Band Is More Than Just Playing an Instrument
I have been asked many times by my friends that aren t in band why are you in band? Get out of band
so we can be in the stands together during the game. band is lame, They do not understand what band
is really about. Band is not just about playing an instrument and marching. I started band in the 6th
grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but here I am a senior in
band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I choose not to. It is hard
when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. You feel like you want to pass out, but you just
have to suck it up and be tough. Throughout the years I have been in band I have created friendships. I
have my closest friends in band. I have created many memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I
will share one day with my kids. I do not know what I would do without band. Getting in band has
been the best decision I have ever made. Band has been the highlight of my high school years. One of
the scariest moments I have experienced in band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was
terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all happened so fast. It was time to get our results, we made a
1, I was so happy. The judges said that if you were to close your eyes and listening to us, you would
not know we messed up. We never stopped playing and we recovered so fast, we were so matured
when this happened. Band takes up

West Jet s Brand Management
According to a recent survey by SFP (Spencer Francey Peters), a North American branding agency
and The Strategic Counsel, WestJet came in at number 3 in Canada s best managed brands, while Air
Canada bottomed out in last place. Respondents ranked companies based on a number of criteria
relating to delivery of brand promise including consumer focus, customer service, brand values,
reliability, consistency, value, trustworthiness and respect (par3 Best Managed Brands). The
interesting part of this survey, is that by having consumers respond to these criteria, the companies
brands are judged not by how much value the consumer sees in the product and service they are
purchasing, and not just the popularity or commonplace the brand may ... Show more content on

Ordinary Germans and Soldiers are also Guilty for the...
Ordinary Germans and soldiers are culpable in the Holocaust in addition to Hitler and the Nazi inner
circle. They are guilty for the Holocaust as well because of their long standing antisemitism,
knowledge of the enormities, and actual assistance in the Holocaust. Although Hitler was the leading
force for the Holocaust, he was supported by ordinary Germans and soldiers who agreed with his
beliefs and participated in the atrocities just as much.
Antisemitism was the beginning and the cause of the Holocaust. The term antisemitism was actually
created by a German Journalist by the name of Wilhelm Marr, created to give a name for the hatred for
Jews (Ezard). Antisemitism fueled the Holocaust, the German hatred for the Jews was there even
before Hitler as described by historian Robert Gellately: What the Nazis actually did was to unshackle
and thereby activate Germans pre existing, pent up antisemitism (qtd in Ezard). One of the major
decisions Hitler made inspiring this hatred was the creation of the Nuremberg Laws in 1935, these
laws made Jew a completely different race, and created Aryan into a superior race (Ezard). These laws
made it official that the Jews were a lesser race, giving another excuse for the people to wreak hatred
upon them. If the Germans had tried to stop the Hitler and the Nazis the Holocaust couldn t have
happened (Mckay). If even half the Germans had resisted the damage would have been much less
drastic.

Cause And Effect Essay About Stress
Have you ever wondered why you had a major breakout of acne on your face last week? That incident
could be very likely caused a great deal of stress. Stress is a physical response that many people deal
with due to an overload of tension or straining. Stress is the body s response to specific situations, and
it affects a countless amount of people to this day. There are ways of dealing with stress and ways of
preventing it too. Stress is part of everyday life, and it is meant to be managed so that people can
remain happy and healthy. There are numerous things to know about stress and what exactly it is.
Stress is originally a response from the body when the body is feeling attacked. When a person is
under stress, the body will switch into a fight or flight type of mode. When the body goes into flight or
fight mode, it responds by releasing a mix of a variety of hormones and chemicals. Some of the
chemicals that the body may release include adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. These types of
hormones and chemicals are released in the intention of trying to prepare the body for physical action
to the stress that it is undergoing. The hormones and chemicals are released to respond to the situation
that the person is being accustomed to. The situation represents the stress that the person is dealing
with at that point in time. There are a variety of different types of stress that a person may experience,
and not all stress is necessarily bad to experience. One of the types of stress is called acute stress. This
type of stress is usually the most common that is dealt with today. This type of stress is as common as
a person brushing their teeth everyday. Acute stress takes place when the body reacts to a new
challenge, event, or demand. When this type of stress is being taken place, it will trigger the body to
go into fight or flight mode . Some examples that may be the cause of this type of stress may include
things like a fight with a close relative, pushing off homework to the very last minute, or waiting for a
letter to see if you got accepted to your dream college. Acute stress is not always necessarily bad or
considered negative . A person can also experience acute from things like

Taking a Look at Kingdom Animalia
Animals share certain characteristics such as being heterotrophs, multicellular, no presence of cell
walls, and many more. Animals can further be divided through the use of a phylogeny, which is an
evolutionary tree. A phylogeny shows patterns of relationships between several different types of
species. When branching off to dissimilar species, characteristics are taken accounted for whether they
are derived, ancestral, or shared traits. Traits include symmetry, tissues, segmentation, body cavities,
and patterns that deal with the development of embryos. The kingdom Animalia breaks down to two
subkingdoms, Parazoa and Eumetazoa. Parazoa include organisms, such as sponges, who most
members lack symmetry, but are multicellular to help circulate water and reproduce. Eumetazoa
separates from Parazoa by symmetry and definite shape therefore, anything that branches off from
Eumetazoa consist of these characteristics. Eumetazoa, or true animals , further divides among
protostomes and deuterostomes (Telford, 2009). Protostomes and deuterostomes differentiate by the
embryonic development and how the zygote goes through mitotic divisions, known as cleavage, and
so on (Raven et al., 2014). Bilaterally symmetrical animals have two dissimilar types of development.
Therefore because some protostomes are not bilaterally symmetrical, protostomes broke down to two
different classes, one class being Spiralian protostomes who undergo spiral cleavage in embryonic
development. Spiral

Simple Physical Violence In Literature
From simple physical violence to the more complicated mental violence, violence is in many pieces of
literature. To most people, violence may seem very simple to spot or to put into certain texts. In
reality, it s a little more complicated than what people seem to think. There are many types of violence

the town! Who weeps for these, weeps for corruption, this quote is an example of how there is there is
emotional violence. Just by someone saying those words can start more violence as quickly as
physical violence can. Throughout the play many different acts of violence are displayed. To

The Usefulness of Functionalism for an Understanding of the Family
The Functionalists see the family as an important and vital institution in society. They take a MACRO
view and look at interdependence between the family and other organisations. Functionalists look at
the positive parts to society but overlook the negatives. They emphasise on the value consensus and
see the family as being universal. Other people s outlooks disagree with this view, such as the
Marxists, the Marxist Feminists and the Radical Feminists.
Item B describes the way in which functionalists view the functional pre requisites or the essentials of
societies if they are to survive. Functionalists writers such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An example of such a group are the Kibbutz. The Israeli Kibbutz is a form of commune, and is one of
the most famous and successful attempts to establish an alternative to the family. Here, the emphasis is
on collective child rearing, the community as a whole taking over the tasks of the family. Murdock
does not consider diversity when considering these pre requisites.
Functionalists also believe in value consensus. It is the idea which suggests that the role of agencies
such as the family is to socialise members of society into shared norms and values, which is the basis
for social order. Primary socialisation completes this value consensus. Parsons was an American
functionalist writer who examined family life in the 1950s. He argued that there are two basic
functions of the family that are found in every society. These are the primary socialisation of children
and the stabilisation of human personalities. Parson believes that this socialisation in the family is so
powerful that society s culture actually becomes part of the individuals personality people are
moulded in terms of the central values of the culture and act in certain ways almost without thinking
about it. Parsons therefore argues that families are like factories producing human personalities, and
only the family can provide the emotional warmth and security to achieve this. Parsons,

transmission distances, the use of high voltage HVDC transmission should be considered. HVDC can
be a more economic way to move electricity over longer distances; a HVDC system can carry greater
power per conductor than an equivalent AC system, resulting in greater capacity per transmission line.
Today, HVDC s main applications are for efficient bulk power transfer, point to point, over longer

the task of ensuring preservation of HVDC equipment from the Thyristor Era and the related IGBT

I Walk Into A Pub
It is six thirty in the evening. I walk into a pub on Madison Avenue, shutting the door behind and
plunging into a blur of blissful silence. The pub is mostly deserted, except for an old man with ears
pointier than my own nose. He is reading a paper and frowning, and he oddly reminds me of Yoda. He
turns to me, smiles and nods in acknowledgement, before hopping down from the stool and hobbling
out into the evening. And then there is the bartender whose real name is Andy, but I call him the
bartender who does not drink. See, he had stopped drinking, albeit temporarily, back in May. Whiskey.
The bartender who does not drink hands me, not my usual beer but, a good old fashioned whiskey as I
make my way to the stool. Forget what the silly physicist say; I tell you, they have got it all wrong.
Sure, there is a center of the universe, but the current location of this center simply happens to be
sitting on a napkin directly in front of me. And it is called whiskey. A good old fashioned whiskey.
And to be frank, it is shaping up to be quite a challenge what was I thinking when I asked Andy to
help me transition from beer to whiskey? My book is laying open on the perfectly polished wooden
surface. Everything is clean and dark and silent; except that, from the corner of my eye, I can see
Andy silently eyeing the glass I have been nursing for the past hour or so, Do you want me to water it
down a bit for you? I shake my head from side to side, No, thanks. I got this. His

The World s Largest Media Conglomerate
Companies all over the world are beginning to expand on the global levels to stay competitive and
increase their profits. The global expansion is made possible through new levels of technology
allowing global businesses more efficiencies than in the past. Today businesses are able to
electronically view production processes in real time from virtually anywhere in the world, funds are
able to be transferred with the click of a button, and a school girl in Tokyo can see the latest U.S.
fashions through online channels. Although operating on a global scale creates many new challenges
that businesses need to analyze before entering a market in order to reduce profit loss and even failure.
Many global companies have had success and failure in the global market place, such as The Walt
Disney Company.
Today the Walt Disney Company is the world s largest media conglomerate, with assets encompassing
movies, television, publishing, and theme parks. (Hoovers) But not too many years ago the company
opened in 1923, originally known as The Disney Brother Studio, as a simple cartoon studio. On
November 18, 1928, Disney released an animated film, Steamboat Willie, featuring the now infamous
Mickey Mouse. As the Mickey Mouse cartoons continued to prosper, Disney released their first
feature length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, on December 21, 1937. Over the
next decade or so additional films were released adding to the value of The Walt Disney Company.

This is what separates them from every other animation company. Essentially the building of their
culture comes down to this question: How do you avoid mistakes and manage the risk that comes from
the failure? The answer is: You don t! According to Ed Catmull, Management s job is not to prevent

attempting to spark creativity in too much bureaucracy is faulty. They know that true creativity is born

cultural quality about Pixar that is so unique, as their culture is almost that those of a parent. Parents

The Sublime in Three Sets Nature and the Romantics are two sides of the same coin. In almost every
single poem we have read over the course of this semester we have been able to find hints of the
natural world. These instances were moments of hunger. While industrialization was tearing
landscapes up by their roots, Romantic poets were desperate to experience the euphoric sense of
sublimity they had come to associate with the highest level of consciousness. However, this sense of
sublimity is not a constant achievable state. For each poet the definition is different, and time was
altering the facets of this theory. This paper will look critically at two poets and one essayist in an

Smoke symbolizes warmth within these homes, as well. The reference to the word pastoral is
connotative with rural countryside based imagery. There is also a sense of innocence about this
landscape. Something the speaker is looking in on with feelings of elation. Wordsworth definition of
the word sublime is one of positivity, which is shown in the following quotation. ...felt along the heart;

this picturesque countryside into complete tranquility and peace. He is even allowed the wonderful
feeling of pleasure. For Wordsworth, the sublime is synonymous with pleasure of the purest form.
Other language that supports this claim are words such as beauteous joy and dizzy rapture to describe
the experience of looking down upon Tintern Abbey s splendor. Further within the reading we find
that the sublime is often tantamount to mystery and a deep sense of the unknown. However, this
mystery to Wordsworth is not a haunting one. The following quotation expands on this characteristic
of the sublime. Of aspect more sublime; that blessed

Gynocentric feminism thus, prompts a vision of femininity and odds with androcentric and misogynist
formulations that have traditionally been assigned to women. It extols feminity as a source of values
by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen as a traditional
phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale marginalization of
women s voice.
On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles
for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women as
primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and
investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings
differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo, Towards A
Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female frame work for
the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study of female
experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the female difference,
the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres and structure of
penmanship by women. The writers like, Adrienne Rich and Susan Griffin have also manifested the
gynocritical writing.

The General, The Slave Who Became A Gladiator
The first movie that pops up to someone s mind when we say Drama is Gladiator released in the year
2000 which is considered historical drama. Ridley Scott works on an inspiring, mesmerizing and
action packed flick to trigger the human feelings of strength, honor, courage, betrayal, ruthlessness
and survival. The character that Russell Crowe plays as the gladiator sends the audience back home
motivated to fight for what they believe in following what he mentioned in the movie what we do in
life, echoes in eternity . The supporting character in the movie, in specific is the slave that
accompanies the gladiator the whole time reflects the slogan of the movie The General who became a
Slave, the Slave who became a Gladiator .
The Cinematic Style that Ridley Scott develops in the film is dynamic, bravely reflected and acted
genuinely. Yet while discussing the plot we can consider it thrilling but flat. Just when the plot is
heating up the steam is gone. Plus the movement of the sword fights looks like they are on fast

Abstract This paper presents an efficient and reliable evolutionary based approach to solve the optimal
power flow(OPF) problem. The proposed approach employs differential evolution algorithm for
optimal settings of control variables. The proposed approach is examined and tested on the standard
IEEE 30 bus test system with fuel cost minimization as objective. The proposed approach results are
compared with the results reported in the literature. The results show the effectiveness and robustness

Any critic, myself included, will tell you that M. Night Shayamalan should ve been the best filmmaker

pieces of filmmaking I ve ever seen. He came out swinging with the classic film The Sixth Sense , a

Elizabethan Vs. Jacobean Periods
The Elizabethan and Jacobean periods characterized the architecture of English developments in large
country houses. Antique styles of earlier times changed by the architecture of Elizabethan bringing the

architecture, places like country houses, as a proof of the good work of builders and architects. The
houses were built to resist difficulties through the years.
At the present time, the choice of living counts on the income and the social class with which is

The architectural style of Elizabethan affected England from the late 1500 s until 1600 s. The earliest
characteristic was that churches construction stopped and the building of houses started.
To express their wealth, the houses were built by strong statesmen, successful merchants and the
enriched nobility. As Elizabethan royalty increase, their homes also became bigger and better, with
gorgeous stone foundations with various levels and a lot of rooms. The houses were looked and
appreciated as symbols of social class and personal status. Elizabethan visual expression of order and
harmony, is the most unique characteristic in these great dwellings, by the use of classical symmetry.

Polar bears are a unique animal all their own. Male polar bears have a versatile diet and foraging
strategy compared to female polar bears, which is proving helpful with recent climate changes.
Throughout this paper, the foraging techniques of male and female polar bears will be discussed along
with increasing climate temperatures and how it is affecting polar bears. Male polar bears are more
versatile when foraging for food compared to female polar bears. Thiemann et al. (2011) found that

for hunting seals which in return is causing the polar bears to travel to land sooner. Rockwell and
Gormezano (2009) state that as the polar bears are coming to shore sooner, they are interfering with
the hatching season of snow geese. Due to the polar bears intruding on the nests, this gives the polar
bears the opportunity to consume the offspring of the snow geese and obtain any energy still required
(Rockwell and Gormezano, 2009). Even though the polar bears may not get the energy they need from
seals, they are still able to get it by other means because of the climate changing. Overall, male and
female polar bears have their own ways of hunting and foraging. Although the females have their
physical limitations due to size or their cubs, they still find a way to survive like the males do by
feeding off carcasses and hunting. Climate change is the other limiting factor that is changing the way
polar bears forage, but is also providing new ways as well through nesting grounds. As the world
keeps changing, the polar bears are changing as well to adapt and survive the best way

Crossing the Borderlands of Sexuality and Gender.
The film that I decided to watch was a documentary by Gabriel Baur named Venus Boyz. This
documentary film serves as a critique of gender and sex and how it is perceived in New York, London,
and Zurich, but ultimately the world. In this documentary the world of Drag Kings is presented to its
viewers. Drag Kings are mostly women performers who dress in male clothing in order to personify
gender stereotypes. Normally performing as exaggerated male characters whose routine may consist
of dancing and singing, these characters in the end, become political activists who break the
boundaries that society has set on every individual s sexuality and gender ... Show more content on

We see it again when Dred decides to walk time square hand in hand with a Queen Bee Luscious, a
drag queen. In the background we hear a passerby say a statement referring to God. Viewing this
documentary we realize that cross dressing, as a man, is not as acceptable as many would think. Not
just crossing dressing in generally but even not embodying how females should look is deemed as
being deviant.
Society has this spectrum that every individual as soon as they are born is classified into groups. There
are only two categories. On one end you have the masculine males and on the other the girly women.
There is no in between. Even though there are many people who fall into these middle categories. This
is reinforced through media as we see both men and women trying to conform into their assigned
categories. What Drag Kings do is try to break this concept as it is poisonous to women and men who
don t fit in and suffer trying to conform to the social roles placed on them. For example, let s look at
hair. In the documentary we see some females who decided to shave their head hair. Angela says that
female sexuality for many men, not all but many, is linked strongly with hair. If you shave it, it means
that you are denying your female sexuality . It is not just simply shaving your head that is the reason
that you are making a statement. It is the way Angela uses it in her shows that demonstrates

____________________ 1A scientific paper submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements in
Biology 30 laboratory under Professor Neilyn O. Villa, 1st semester, 2011 2012. ABSTRACT To
determine the effects of gamma radiation in inducing mutation on the growth of corn (Zea mays), an
experiment using corn seeds exposed in to different rate of radiation (0kr, 10 kr, 30 kr, and 50 kr) was
done. Four treatments were prepared using 10 seeds from each of the following different radiation
rates. The seeds were planted and were observed for seven weeks. The percent germination and ...

Theoretically, the control should have the highest percent germination rate, but since errors which can
be attributed from the environment as well as from other physical factors are present, results obtained
cannot be avoided. The treatment with the highest irradiation rate (50 kr) has the lowest rate of seed
germination. However, in Table 2, results indicated that treatment under the former has the highest
percent mortality rate (100 %) while the lowest obtained by the control treatment (40%).
In Figure 1, results obtained showed that the treatment with highest average plant height was under
Treatment 10 kr. The final average plant height under this treatment was 28.58 cm compared to the
25.98 cm of control, 20.87 of 30 kr and 6.04 of 50 kr. Again, theoretically, the control should have the
highest average plant height but results showed otherwise.
Through the obtained data, it can be concluded that exposing seeds to radiation can induce mutation
which in the end could affect the growth rate, germination rate as well as the mortality rate of the
plant. Observations and data obtained showed that the rate of radiation is inversely proportional to the
percent germination and height of corn plants thus proving that percent germination and height
decreases as amount or

The Novel Feed

The novel Feed by M.T. Anderson is about the dystopian future where the internet is constantly
feeding into the characters brains and is something that they ultimately cannot live without . Titus, one
of the main characters in the book, starts off on going on a trip to the moon with several of his friends.
The moon is a place that is advertised on the feed as this marvelous place to visit, full of laughter,
parties, loud music, and lights, but Titus views the moon as dull, lifeless and dismal. This reveals Titus
s personality, as he is coming to hook up with someone in the same intimate status as himself. Which

The distinct parenting styles throughout Feed reveal how parental guidance impacts children s identity
and emotional stability.
The lack of nourishment from their parents causes the children in feed to lose a sense of identity and
have a need for new consumer goods on the market. Denied an education, the young people of Feed
are trained not as citizens but as consumers, while shadowy political forces seek to undermine the
corrupt world of the novel. In effect, then, the dystopian setting of feed is a state of emptiness where
the young are offered consumerism as a substitute for participation in citizenship (Braddford 129). It
is like today s new generations that are constantly on their phones; people cannot live without them.
Author Anne Marrie Hacht describes, [I]n Feed, he turns his attention to a future that any modern
reader would recognize. Shopping is the rage. Television and computers are popular; they are so
popular, in fact, that everyone is equipped with a direct brain connection to them at birth (1). The
advertisements that are streamed on the feed twist the truth and draw the characters away from reality.
Titus receives a glimpse of reality when he travels to the moon, he says, I remember that in the
banners looked goldy and sparkling, but as we walked down to the luggage, all the air vents were
streaked with black (Anderson 8). However Violet, Titus s girlfriend, has a different view on the
world.

A Person s World View May Not Be My Worldview
A person s world view may not be my worldview, so how do I differ what a worldview is? Along with,
how is a person s worldview different from a christian worldview? When I read an encyclopedia the
definition might look like this, a person s specific bias or opinion on things that influence how they
look at the world and the things around them from what is there to what is expected to be there. Now
that I have a definition of a worldview, what is a christian worldview? With the article A Christian
Worldview there are five points that make up a christian worldview. First God exists and the world
was created by him. Secondly humans who fully believe in God have enjoyment to look forward to
after death because they can be with God, but everyone has a soul and spirit to go somewhere after
they die. Third science and metaphysics are not the only things that explain a big bang theory and
everything that exists today. Fourth is epistemology is not the only thing that helps humans perceive
real senses. Last there is a difference between objective morality and subjective morality along with
the Bible being a source for christians to follow God s will for our life (Drury 3).
Likewise with the five points to a person s worldview and a christian worldview how can all citizens
legally choose not to give life to an unborn child, but not let people end their life when they are
terminally ill, or go through extreme pain for the rest of their life. Currently there are four states that

Slowly Moving Towards Legalizing Marijuana Essay
For the past ninety years, marijuana has been an enemy to drug agencies, government officials, and
presidential administrations. Smoke Signals, a book about the oppressive and beneficial history of
marijuana, is written as an effective argument while highlighting the plant in many different social
settings.
Cannabis use can be traced back to the Neolithic Period (10,200 4500 BC). Since then, nearly every
culture continued to use marijuana for personal reasons, causing information to surge throughout the
world. Some cultivate marijuana for the stems and stalk that produce cordage and cloth, while others

A Jamaican centered, long term marijuana use study concluded that no significant differences between

American culture exploited marijuana for nearly every use. People who found relief in marijuana
stood for their rights. Social gatherings like Hempfest promoted marijuana law reform when
thousands of people gathered and enjoyed themselves in the company of other marijuana users. In
retaliation, the iron fist of different drug czars, presidents, and the authorities ruled anyone who had

marijuana with a different strategy.
Instead of moving towards prohibition, countries like the Netherlands, Canada, and Israel, worked
towards decriminalization the policy that removes the marijuana smoker from the criminal justice

Compare And Contrast Zeus And Taurus
In my humble opinion, all of the constellations are beautiful. But none of the constellations attract me

constellation goes a little something like this. There once were two twin brothers named Castor and

Castor s dad was Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, and Pollux s dad was Zeus, father of God s and men.

Social Situation In A Rose For Emily
Imagine you are an only child who lives with just your father. Now also imagine that your father cuts
you off from the world and the people in it, and the only human contact and relationships you grow up
with are with that of your father and a house slave. Living this way until your early adulthood when
your father dies it would be a miracle that you developed any social skills at all. For Emily in A Rose
for Emily by William Faulkner this is her life. The interactions that Emily has with other people
throughout the story can only be described as odd, but she doesn t know any better. These
uncomfortable encounters with other people are because Emily is socially awkward. Emily s speech
shows that she is socially awkward. An example of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this from the text comes when Faulkner writes, After he father s death she went out
very little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all (264). Emily keeping to herself
and away from anyone after these two events shows that she doesn t know how to interact with other
people. The fact that her sweetheart suddenly deserted her also raises some concerns in regards to her
social skills. Another example from the text that Emily was socially awkward occurs when Faulkner
writes, He [the Negro] talked to no one, probably not even to her, for his voice had grown harsh and
rusty as if from disuse (268). This shows that Emily either doesn t care to or doesn t know how to
communicate with other people. Considering her slave was one of the few people she ever interacted
with, it is bizarre that she rarely communicated with him. A final example that shows Emily is socially
awkward happens when Faulkner writes, The man [Homer Barron] himself lay in the bed (264). Emily
killing Homer as a way to keep him again shows that Emily doesn t know how to interact with other
human beings. She even goes as far as to leave his rotting corpse in the bed and sleep next to it, which
only adds to Emily s social awkwardness.
In A Rose for Emily, Emily struggles with her social skills countless times throughout the story. Emily
s speech, and actions clearly exemplify her social awkwardness, as well as the other character s words
about Emily. However, it s not her fault. Emily s father destined her to a life of limited human
interaction and a life cut off from the world outside her large estate. Perhaps Emily s father was just
trying to protect his daughter, or that only the best suitor would do for her. The one thing that is
certain, though, is Emily s obvious lack of social

The beans are collected, cleaned, milled, and turned in chocolate liquor. The four main ingredients in a
Hershey s bar are chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, sugar and milk. The milk and sugar are combined and
dried until it has a thick taffy texture. Then chocolate liquor is mixed with the sugar milk, and this
mixture turns into a dark brown powder called chocolate crumb. Cocoa butter gets added to the
chocolate crumb, then the mixture is grinded through steel rollers making it a smooth chocolate paste.
The paste is poured into huge vats called conches, where large granite rollers smooth out any gritty
particles. Next the chocolate needs to be cooled so it reaches the proper texture. Next the chocolate
needs to be molded into the signature Hershey shape. The molds are put onto a vibrating conveyer belt
so the air bubbles are removed, and the chocolate can settle. The bars are then sent through a cooling

Mountain Man Essay
Currently, because the market of traditional beer is decreasing with an annual rate of 4%, whereas the
market of light beer is increasing, Mountain Man is thinking to extend its product line to light bear.
However, we don t know if it is a good idea because of the difficulty transferring the brand equity and
the uncertainty of cannibalization and dilution. I suggest we should still extend the brand and launch
Mountain Man light in following process.
First of all, Mountain Man light should target on female and younger generation. According to the
profile of beer drinkers, females account for 42% of light beer drinkers and those who are younger
than 35 years old account for 29%, which means the total proportion of them is as high as 58.8%.
Thus, Mountain Man light should choose them as our target. Second, we focus its positioning on Pure
and Refresh , making youngers believe Mountain Man light is the best beer for ... Show more content

Third, set the price of Mountain Man light 1.5 times expensive than Mountain Man Lager because
younger people are willing to pay twice of the price than those over 35 and it also stand for high
quality and complex manufacturing procedure. Furthermore, even if the price of the light beer is more
expensive than lager, it s not expensive at all, compared to those famous companies. According to the
market share (barrels) and total sales of beer, Mountain Man supposed to earn $191 million dollars,
but their actual sales is much lower than it, which means Mountain Man Lager is cheaper than the
average price (Appendix2). Next, choose restaurants and bars as the main selling channel of Mountain
Man light, and also sell it in off premise locations. The reason why we decide it is because people tend
to drink light beer with meal and because selling

The Chipko movement, though primarily a livelihood movement rather than a forest conservation

The Pardoner s Tale In The Fourteenth Century
Geoffrey Chaucer probably wrote The Canterbury Tales in the later part of the fourteenth century.
Influenced by Boccaccio s Decameron, a collection of tales told by Italian nobility, Chaucer
introduces thirty unique characters in the book, writing himself as one of the thirty and the ultimate
narrator. These thirty men and women from middle class families convene in Southwark before
embarking on a journey to Canterbury, where they will pay respect to St. Thomas Beckett. Traveling
on a pilgrimage in the fourteenth century England parallels a retirement cruise in the twenty first
century United States; half of the amusing drunkenness occurs before the colorful travelers arrive at
their destination. The Canterbury Tales remains popular because ... Show more content on

Receiving a pardon for one s sins was an ideal way for wealthy land owners to stay in communion
with the Church without having to confess their more embarrassing sins. Before diving into the story,
the Pardoner explains how homilies about greed produce more money than any other sin, so he will
tell his famous greed is the root of all evil tale. When three deplorable friends hear word that the
despicable Death killed their long time friend, they swear an oath to find and kill the ruthless monster.
On their way they ridicule an elderly man who is wishing Death would come to take him. The man
tells the friends to look under a tree, where instead of Death they find eight bushels of gold coins. The
three friends fall to greed when they devise separate plans to kill the others so that each can spend
more money gambling, drinking, and eating. In doing so all three so called friends end up dead, and
no one enjoys the gold. The obvious moral of the story is that greed is parasitic and causes people to
commit grave sins. The Reeve s Tale also ends in tragedy when a greedy, deceitful miller named
Simpkin wakes up to hear that two mischievous students, Alan and John, raped not only his daughter
but also his wife. The students formulated

  • 2. Band Is More Than Just Playing An Instrument Essay Band Is More Than Just Playing an Instrument I have been asked many times by my friends that aren t in band why are you in band? Get out of band so we can be in the stands together during the game. band is lame, They do not understand what band is really about. Band is not just about playing an instrument and marching. I started band in the 6th grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but here I am a senior in band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I choose not to. It is hard when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. You feel like you want to pass out, but you just have to suck it up and be tough. Throughout the years I have been in band I have created friendships. I have my closest friends in band. I have created many memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I will share one day with my kids. I do not know what I would do without band. Getting in band has been the best decision I have ever made. Band has been the highlight of my high school years. One of the scariest moments I have experienced in band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all happened so fast. It was time to get our results, we made a 1, I was so happy. The judges said that if you were to close your eyes and listening to us, you would not know we messed up. • 4. Ordinary Germans and Soldiers are also Guilty for the... Ordinary Germans and soldiers are culpable in the Holocaust in addition to Hitler and the Nazi inner circle. They are guilty for the Holocaust as well because of their long standing antisemitism, knowledge of the enormities, and actual assistance in the Holocaust. Although Hitler was the leading force for the Holocaust, he was supported by ordinary Germans and soldiers who agreed with his beliefs and participated in the atrocities just as much. Antisemitism was the beginning and the cause of the Holocaust. The term antisemitism was actually created by a German Journalist by the name of Wilhelm Marr, created to give a name for the hatred for Jews (Ezard). Antisemitism fueled the Holocaust, the German hatred for the Jews was there even before Hitler as described by historian Robert Gellately: What the Nazis actually did was to unshackle and thereby activate Germans pre existing, pent up antisemitism (qtd in Ezard). One of the major decisions Hitler made inspiring this hatred was the creation of the Nuremberg Laws in 1935, these laws made Jew a completely different race, and created Aryan into a superior race (Ezard). These laws made it official that the Jews were a lesser race, giving another excuse for the people to wreak hatred upon them. If the Germans had tried to stop the Hitler and the Nazis the Holocaust couldn t have happened (Mckay). If even half the Germans had resisted the damage would have been much less drastic. Stress is a physical response that many people deal with due to an overload of tension or straining. Stress is the body s response to specific situations, and it affects a countless amount of people to this day. There are ways of dealing with stress and ways of preventing it too. Stress is part of everyday life, and it is meant to be managed so that people can remain happy and healthy. There are numerous things to know about stress and what exactly it is. Stress is originally a response from the body when the body is feeling attacked. When a person is under stress, the body will switch into a fight or flight type of mode. When the body goes into flight or fight mode, it responds by releasing a mix of a variety of hormones and chemicals. Some of the chemicals that the body may release include adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. These types of hormones and chemicals are released in the intention of trying to prepare the body for physical action to the stress that it is undergoing. The hormones and chemicals are released to respond to the situation that the person is being accustomed to. The situation represents the stress that the person is dealing with at that point in time. There are a variety of different types of stress that a person may experience, and not all stress is necessarily bad to experience. One of the types of stress is called acute stress. This type of stress is usually the most common that is dealt with today. This type of stress is as common as a person brushing their teeth everyday. Acute stress takes place when the body reacts to a new challenge, event, or demand. When this type of stress is being taken place, it will trigger the body to go into fight or flight mode . Some examples that may be the cause of this type of stress may include things like a fight with a close relative, pushing off homework to the very last minute, or waiting for a letter to see if you got accepted to your dream college. • 7. Taking a Look at Kingdom Animalia Animals share certain characteristics such as being heterotrophs, multicellular, no presence of cell walls, and many more. Animals can further be divided through the use of a phylogeny, which is an evolutionary tree. A phylogeny shows patterns of relationships between several different types of species. When branching off to dissimilar species, characteristics are taken accounted for whether they are derived, ancestral, or shared traits. Traits include symmetry, tissues, segmentation, body cavities, and patterns that deal with the development of embryos. The kingdom Animalia breaks down to two subkingdoms, Parazoa and Eumetazoa. Parazoa include organisms, such as sponges, who most members lack symmetry, but are multicellular to help circulate water and reproduce. Eumetazoa separates from Parazoa by symmetry and definite shape therefore, anything that branches off from Eumetazoa consist of these characteristics. Eumetazoa, or true animals , further divides among protostomes and deuterostomes (Telford, 2009). Protostomes and deuterostomes differentiate by the embryonic development and how the zygote goes through mitotic divisions, known as cleavage, and so on (Raven et al., 2014). Bilaterally symmetrical animals have two dissimilar types of development. Therefore because some protostomes are not bilaterally symmetrical, protostomes broke down to two different classes, one class being Spiralian protostomes who undergo spiral cleavage in embryonic development. The Usefulness of Functionalism for an Understanding of the Family The Functionalists see the family as an important and vital institution in society. They take a MACRO view and look at interdependence between the family and other organisations. Functionalists look at the positive parts to society but overlook the negatives. They emphasise on the value consensus and see the family as being universal. Other people s outlooks disagree with this view, such as the Marxists, the Marxist Feminists and the Radical Feminists. Functionalists also believe in value consensus. It is the idea which suggests that the role of agencies such as the family is to socialise members of society into shared norms and values, which is the basis for social order. Primary socialisation completes this value consensus. Parsons was an American functionalist writer who examined family life in the 1950s. He argued that there are two basic functions of the family that are found in every society. These are the primary socialisation of children and the stabilisation of human personalities. Parson believes that this socialisation in the family is so powerful that society s culture actually becomes part of the individuals personality people are moulded in terms of the central values of the culture and act in certain ways almost without thinking about it. Parsons therefore argues that families are like factories producing human personalities, and only the family can provide the emotional warmth and security to achieve this. Parsons, ... Male polar bears are more versatile when foraging for food compared to female polar bears. Thiemann et al. Rockwell and Gormezano (2009) state that as the polar bears are coming to shore sooner, they are interfering with the hatching season of snow geese. Villa, 1st semester, 2011 2012. ABSTRACT To determine the effects of gamma radiation in inducing mutation on the growth of corn (Zea mays), an experiment using corn seeds exposed in to different rate of radiation (0kr, 10 kr, 30 kr, and 50 kr) was done. Four treatments were prepared using 10 seeds from each of the following different radiation rates. The seeds were planted and were observed for seven weeks. The percent germination and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theoretically, the control should have the highest percent germination rate, but since errors which can be attributed from the environment as well as from other physical factors are present, results obtained cannot be avoided. The treatment with the highest irradiation rate (50 kr) has the lowest rate of seed germination. However, in Table 2, results indicated that treatment under the former has the highest percent mortality rate (100 %) while the lowest obtained by the control treatment (40%). In Figure 1, results obtained showed that the treatment with highest average plant height was under Treatment 10 kr. The final average plant height under this treatment was 28.58 cm compared to the 25.98 cm of control, 20.87 of 30 kr and 6.04 of 50 kr. Again, theoretically, the control should have the highest average plant height but results showed otherwise. Through the obtained data, it can be concluded that exposing seeds to radiation can induce mutation which in the end could affect the growth rate, germination rate as well as the mortality rate of the plant. Observations and data obtained showed that the rate of radiation is inversely proportional to the percent germination and height of corn plants thus proving that percent germination and height decreases as amount or ... Along with, how is a person s worldview different from a christian worldview? When I read an encyclopedia the definition might look like this, a person s specific bias or opinion on things that influence how they look at the world and the things around them from what is there to what is expected to be there. Now that I have a definition of a worldview, what is a christian worldview? With the article A Christian Worldview there are five points that make up a christian worldview. First God exists and the world was created by him. Secondly humans who fully believe in God have enjoyment to look forward to after death because they can be with God, but everyone has a soul and spirit to go somewhere after they die. Third science and metaphysics are not the only things that explain a big bang theory and everything that exists today. Fourth is epistemology is not the only thing that helps humans perceive real senses. Last there is a difference between objective morality and subjective morality along with the Bible being a source for christians to follow God s will for our life (Drury 3). I wish I had an elaborate story as to why i m so attracted to the Gemini constellation, but truth be told, Gemini is my favorite because i m a Gemini! The bordering constellations are Lynx, Auriga, Taurus, Orion, Monoceros, Canis Minor, and Cancer. The myth that belongs to the Gemini constellation goes a little something like this. Living this way until your early adulthood when your father dies it would be a miracle that you developed any social skills at all. For Emily in A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner this is her life. The interactions that Emily has with other people throughout the story can only be described as odd, but she doesn t know any better. These uncomfortable encounters with other people are because Emily is socially awkward. Emily s speech shows that she is socially awkward. An example of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this from the text comes when Faulkner writes, After he father s death she went out very little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all (264). Emily keeping to herself and away from anyone after these two events shows that she doesn t know how to interact with other people. The fact that her sweetheart suddenly deserted her also raises some concerns in regards to her social skills. Another example from the text that Emily was socially awkward occurs when Faulkner writes, He [the Negro] talked to no one, probably not even to her, for his voice had grown harsh and rusty as if from disuse (268). This shows that Emily either doesn t care to or doesn t know how to communicate with other people. Considering her slave was one of the few people she ever interacted with, it is bizarre that she rarely communicated with him. A final example that shows Emily is socially awkward happens when Faulkner writes, The man [Homer Barron] himself lay in the bed (264). Emily killing Homer as a way to keep him again shows that Emily doesn t know how to interact with other human beings. She even goes as far as to leave his rotting corpse in the bed and sleep next to it, which only adds to Emily s social awkwardness. In A Rose for Emily, Emily struggles with her social skills countless times throughout the story. Emily s speech, and actions clearly exemplify her social awkwardness, as well as the other character s words about Emily. However, it s not her fault. Emily s father destined her to a life of limited human interaction and a life cut off from the world outside her large estate. Perhaps Emily s father was just trying to protect his daughter, or that only the best suitor would do for her. The one thing that is certain, though, is Emily s obvious lack of social ...
