Reading And Writing Is Essential For Understanding And...
In this day and age reading and writing are fundamental functions for everything a person does.
Reading is essential for understanding and comprehending warning signs and instructions on a
medicine bottle as well as filling out applications. It is important that one knows how to read in order
to find a job or to use it for their benefits. Writing is also an important part of anyone s life. Writing is
use as a tool of expression and a basis of which your work will be judged throughout one s life. The
work that one has to put into getting an education is never the best part of an average adult s life.
Today, many people are met with obstacles that prevent them from getting qualifications however,
when these obstacles are overcome, an education can be gained by anyone, anytime and anyplace.
Nonetheless, for anyone trying to gain an education or higher education, one must be dedicated and
have the drive to reach their goals. For Malcolm X and Frederick Douglass, gaining an education was
very different for them as it was difficult and it was almost an impossible goal to achieve. Both of
these men never stopped working towards their dream of one day learning how to read and write and
this should be an example to young adults of today. X and Douglass foreshadowed the difficulty of
gaining an education. In this essay, I will described how two individuals of oppression strived to better
themselves via education.
Malcolm X gained the knowledge of reading and writing easier than that

Culture In The Middle Ages
Imagine going back in time with no stove, microwave, fast food, restaurants, grocery stores, or
refrigerators. Technology today gives us access to safer, healthier, and quicker food. The Middle Ages
was a time of culture deterioration. Throughout this period it wasn t known for it s food or good diet.
In medieval times, most people only ate two or three types of food. After the agricultural revolution,
peasants did not have a lot of access to a variety of food. They grew what they ate, which was also
collected for a tax. Peasants typically grow things like potatoes, corn, leeks, barley, rye and wheat.
Compared to hunter gatherer societies prior to the agricultural revolution, peasants were very
unhealthy. They only ate the same two to three

Sexuality in Aubrey Beardsley s Story of Venus and Tannhäuser
Aubrey Beardsley wrote The Story of Venus and Tannhäuser during the fin de siècle, the end of the
Victorian Era. This decadent work, following Baudelaire s credo art for art s sake first of all, portrays
sex and sexualities in a playful manner. In addition to mocking conventional Victorian moral codes,
and parodying pornographic conventions, The Story of Venus and Tannhäuser also supports Foucault s
idea that the Victorian Era witnessed a diffusion of sexualities.
The Story of Venus and Tannhäuser was originally toned down and modified for publication in 1897
in The Savoy, a magazine that Beardsley served as art editor, under the title of Under The Hill.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beardsley s readers were not to be of the common society; rather they had to be well educated
sophisticates to understand his work.
Another pornographic convention that Beardsley broke was that the characters had personalities and
functions in addition to sexual roles says Zatlin (119). Also, they did not have unlimited sexual energy,
rather Tannhäuser was rather relieved when, an hour later, Priapusa and Doricourt and some others
burst drunkenly into the room and claimed Venus for themselves (Beardsley 34).
With the diverse accounts of sexualities and the breaking of almost all of the prerequisites for erotic
writing and pornography of the Victorian Era, Beardsley wrote a truly decadent manuscript that defied
the conventions of mainstream literature. Whether Beardsley would have completed the tale had he
lived longer, or had meant to leave it as is, an unending piece of work, is unknown. What is known is
that Venus and Tannhäuser functions only as a piece of art for art s sake defying the social conventions
that were applied to other works of that time. Works Cited

The Importance Of Firearms In Schools
Recent polls conducted across the United States surveying students about concealed weapon carry
laws show that almost eighty percent of students oppose the concealed carrying of firearms on school
campuses. Only five percent of students said they believe that carrying firearms on campus would
prevent school shootings or other violent acts relating to carrying guns on campus (Book 22). Overall,
the majority of American students oppose concealed carry laws and are concerned about the safety of
themselves and or others if they attend a school that allows concealed carrying. Lately, the debate over
whether or not concealed carry laws should be allowed or not on school campuses has slowly been
disappearing. If so many students across the United States are concerned about firearms on their own
school campus then, therefore, the rest of the U.S. should be too. Currently, many states allow each
school to choose if firearms should be allowed on their campuses, however, firearms should not be
allowed at all in schools across the United States. There are more possibilities for firearms to have a
bad impact rather than a good impact on campuses including increases in crime and theft, concerns of
safety, and the possibility of firearms being stolen and used. The most important concern about
allowing guns to be carried on campuses is, of course, the safety of the students, teachers,
administrators, and visitors. Firearms in the hands of students or anyone else on campus endanger
everyone

Student Body Vice President
Being Student Body Vice president was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever been a part
of. I know that many kids think it is lame and has no point, but for me it really felt good to have a say
in what went on at my high school. Student council is a very eclectic group from the band kids to the
football jocks. Another thing that is different than most things I have been a part of was the fact that
all grades were together. Up until student council I had never been a part of an organization where
everyone was so different. It was great to have people from all different walks of life because then
student council really was representing the whole school, but this also brought on many worries for
me. From the first day the teacher had told me that I would be the one doing most of the in class ...

I proceeded to tell her how I knew the football guys and cheerleaders were going to take it as a joke
and how the band kids would only want to plan weird events that no one would go to. I had gone into
this so excited and now, after just one day, I was ready to quit. My mom told me I should stick it out
longer, so I did. The next few weeks we were planning homecoming, and to my surprise the band kids
had great ideas and the popular kids actually showed up to meeting to help plan. In a weird way
everyone s very different personalities just began to jive together. With homecoming just 2 days away
everyone s ideas had come together and all that was left was the setup. I was super happy, but still
being a little pessimistic. Homecoming had come and went and we were having a student council
party at my house to celebrate. Everyone at this point was friends and mingling around until our
teacher said he had an announcement. He told us that this was the most successful dance the school
had ever had and that we raised almost 50% more than all years past. Everyone was

A Teacher Can Impact A Student s Life
Confucius, a famous Chinese teacher said, Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope.
Hope breeds peace. In the previous quote by Confucius, it is obvious that a teacher can impact a
student s life. Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good
equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which may
help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness, encouraging
students, and finding the right teaching methods for each student are three of the many characteristics
in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness
is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have an appropriate relationship
between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their students to understand
students difficulties and their situation in life. Providing an email address, phone number, and office
hours help students to keep in touch with their instructor. However, teachers need to keep the balance
between friendliness and strictness; moreover, an inspirational instructor needs to set up some rules
for the classroom environment. For example, the instructor may request students politely that they are
not allowed to use their phone during the class because it distracts them from paying attention to the
class and subject. However, instructors should not be hard for their students

Comparison Of Pilgrims First And Puritans
There were many reasons why English colonists decided to cross the Atlantic. Some dreamed of
owning lands and of a life improvement, others were escaping from something that was troubling
them, and some were trying to institute a way of living based on the sacred scriptures. Pilgrims first
and Puritans after tried to establish a new and much more pure form of worship. Although this two
groups had the same desire to apply the protestant reformation to the new world, certainly they differ
in so many ways. First and foremost the terms and their meanings differ. In fact, while the term
pilgrim indicates the one who made a journey for religious purposes, the term puritan defines the one
that wants to reform and purify the church. In 1620, a group

An Organization s Performance Management Plan Essay
Introduction
According to Caldwell (2002, pp 8), performance management is defined as a proactive partnership
between employees and management that helps employees perform at their best and alight their
contributions with the goals, values and initiatives of the organisation .
High performing organisations are created through individual accountability for both the achievement
of an organisation s results and its cultural foundation. Culture in its simplest terms is how we do
things around here . And while culture change needs to be led from the top, it is everyone in the
organisation s responsibility. The success balances on all employees being accountable for achieving
the organisation s goals, living the organisation s values and demonstrating the right personal
behaviour.
Factors involved in performance management
An organisation s performance management plan must identify the contributions each employee
makes in achieving the organisation s goals and objectives. Performance management is a continual
process that requires the engagement and participation of all involved. This is the process to create a
work environment where employees can perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
To be constituted as effective performance management, the following must be evident:
Employees must have a clear job description
A fair and equitable process and promote open lines of communication between the employee and the
employee s manager
Build employees

Bluefard Annotated Bibliography
Annotated bibliography
Bluefard, Sam. The Head, the Heart, and the Conflict of Generations. In Chaim Potok s The Chosen.
Children s Literature Review. Ed. Scot Peacock. Vol. 92. Detroit: Gale, 2004.
In his review, Bluefard talks about the differences that the two Jewish families have. One family are
Hasidic Jews and the other Orthodox. Bluefard states that the Hasidic Jews (Danny s family) revert to
earlier scholasticism, mostly used in Europe, by teaching through silence. Basically meaning that he
doesn t speak of anything but religion and scholastic subjects. Bluefard talks about how strict Danny s
Hasidic father is and how Danny is forced and pressured into being a Rabbi, thus influencing Danny
to rebel. The Orthodox Jews on the other hand, are quite the opposite. Bluefard talks about how
Reuven s father is much nicer, more open, and understanding. He lets Reuven be what he wants to
become, and is not pressured. Bluefard says that the difference between the fathers is from their
respective visions toward the holocaust (Bluefard, 2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malter and Reb Saunders (the fathers of the two boys) differ from each other. Abramson says that the
malters are more Americanized by taking part in scientific studies, organizing a baseball league (a
popular american sport), and becoming zionists. The Saunders s are un Americanized according to
Abramson because they use a more traditional Eastern European method of teaching. Reb Saunders is
the opposite of Mr. Malter because Mr. Malter is very open to discussion whereas Reb Saunders
prefers to teach in silence. Using an older, stricter method of learning, this pressures Danny and makes
him even scared to talk to his father. Abramson also talks about despite their different fathers, the two
boys have a lot in common and share an important set of ideals. Abramson also talks a lot about other
critic s reviews on the novel, and a bit on the movie based on this

They should be handled carefully. For this function to be effective, human resource managers should
be having very good skill set. But sometimes, there arises circumstances, in which human resource
manager cannot work efficiently. In some situations, company needs to outsource human resource
functions. For example:
1. Company needs to cut down their cost i.e. expenses on human resource managers.
2. Human resource managers are busy and they cannot afford to give time for some tasks they need to
do.
3. Human resource manager id unskilled.
In these situations, company can think of outsourcing human resource functions. But before
outsourcing, they should think about following questions:
1. Is the company comfortable with letting someone else handling human resource functions?
2. Do company have dedicated HR professionals or HR resources to fulfil their need? Are they enough
efficient?
3. Can business afford HR outsourcing firm?
The overall idea of this paper is to research and study human resource outsourcing practices in
organisations. And using this research, there is a solution found to the given case.
This research is used to find solution for the HR of company.

Style Elements And Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Style Elements and Harrison Bergeron It is quite difficult to detail a dystopian future without thinking
about the variables. What time period shall it be? What new laws will be enacted to cause the
dystopia? How will the characters be portrayed, and what shall be their challenges? These variables
would be enough to repel authors from this topic, but one author managed to perfectly describe a
dystopian future with his short piece, Harrison Bergeron. This short story, written by Kurt Vonnegut,
has been renowned for showing an almost perfect dystopia. Through the use of stylistic elements such
as diction, imagery, and details, Vonnegut reveals a grim tone, where even if good tries to prevail, it
will be stopped and forgotten. In Harrison

Essay about Let s Stand Up for Liberty
Who is Robyn Blumner? Perhaps she is simply your everyday editorialist for a daily newspaper. Or, as
the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida (ACLU), could she
possibly have her own agenda? One of Blumner s columns entitled Let s stand up for liberty was
published in a well known editorial writers magazine called The Masthead . In summary, it focuses on
freedom of speech, and how we tend to lose sight of it, or even have it taken from us during national
hardships. She feels that the government tends to deny us of these freedoms when we need them the
most, during war. Blumner sturdily supports her claims throughout the course of her column.
However, does the fact that she was once affiliated with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Blumner claims during World War I, few editorial boards stood up for civil liberties. Instead, they
chose to reflect the xenophobic [anti immigrant] views of their readership [par.16]. In support, she
quotes from a professor of journalism, Joseph McKerns, to back her statement. McKerns asserts
foreigners were the ones portrayed as a threat rather than merely exercising free speech [par.18]. He
also alleges the daily press made a convenient separation, seeing the speech of the political activist as
different from what it did [par.17]. By accentuating her interest of immigrant s rights, could it be she is
supporting yet again, her past organization?
Where do her priorities lie? So far we have identified her support of national freedom and immigrant s
rights. Throughout the course of the article she also defends the rights of Japanese Americans, German
Americans, and defends publishers that were prosecuted for violating the Espionage Act in wartime
history. She may have valid claims, but she is still being biased. What about the natives of Iraq that
gained liberties from the capture of Saddam Hussein? War doesn t always have viewed negatively.
Apparently she was respected enough to be published. However, a little background on The Masthead
is nothing more than an opinion writing magazine. Does this make her credible? I think not!
In the beginning I was compelled by her article. It truly made me

Pay It Forward Movie Analysis
A great movie captures the audience by creating a realistic depiction of the life and development of
dynamic characters. One magical moment in Pay it Forward, occurs when Mr. Simonet and Arlene
kiss for the first time a distraught mother at rock bottom with alcohol and work, and her son s astute
social studies teacher, turned lovers. Scandalous! The movie Pay it Forward was directed by Mimi
Leder, and produced by Warner Brothers Studio in 2000. Pay it Forward has been rated two out of five
stars by Rotten Tomatoes, and three and a half out of five stars by IMDb. It tells the story of an eleven
year old boy, Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) doing a social studies project for his teacher, Mr.
Eugene Simonet (Kevin Spacey) the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One criterion of a good movie is its use of dynamic character development. This can be seen in the
scene where Arlene s ex husband, Ricky (Jon Bon Jovi) returns home. He becomes drunk and starts
verbally abusing Arlene and threatening Trevor. No longer a submissive wife, she quickly throws
Ricky out of the house. Arlene has learned to protect herself and her son, rather than please a man.
Another example is the development of Mr. Simonet. In the beginning of the movie, he was a harsh
teacher who showed little sympathy. Through his relationship with Arlene, Mr. Simonet grows to be
compassionate and sympathetic towards the McKinney s situation. This use of dynamic character
development implies a sense of motion and drives the plot. Furthermore, the musical selection for a
movie is just as important as the plot. Without music, there would be no suspense or drama. For
example, when Trevor is in his room hiding from his parents yelling, he turns on the radio to listen to
Last Resort by Papa Roach. The song is about wanting to end the internal suffering and agony through
self harm and/or suicide. The lyrics, I m contemplating suicide Cause I m losing my sight Losing my
mind Wish somebody would tell me I m fine are important to the scene because they convey Trevor s
emotional struggle. Trevor yearns for his mother to be happy and free from Ricky, but Trevor wants to
be happy as well. Using music, Robert Townson

Everybody Loves Raymond Tv Show Analysis
After watching both TV Sitcoms, Everybody loves Raymond and Modern Family , there is a lot of
differences and similarities to analyze, comparing both on styles and production. First, Everybody
loves Raymond is an American TV series show in the sitcom genre, created by Philip Rosenthal and
aired on CBS since 1996. When I was watching it, I noticed that their settings were practically similar
to ¨Modern Family¨, showing both sites in a family house. For example, both TV shows started with
an establishing show. It is showing basically an overview of the location on where the scene will take
place. The director used different settings in the house, like for example, in the bedroom, kitchen,
living and dining room. The lighting in ¨Everybody ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, this is like that because the creators Christopher Lloyd Steven Levitan, made this TV sitcom
particularly in a Mockumentary style or (docu comedy style, in which means that they present the
events in a documentary style just to create comedy. Modern Family have that particular style of using
more camera movements than the show of Everybody loves Raymond , that is more static. This
dramatically movements of the camera makes the show seems like in a face pace running all the time.
They do faster close ups, zooms in/ out, tilting up/ down, and they do faster movements of panning
left/ right, to follow the conversation of the actors, which is totally different from the other show.
Another differences on both shows is that in ¨Modern Family¨ they have that particular style when you
see the actors talking directly to the camera, like they are having a conversation to someone, or just
maybe pretending they are talking to themselves. However, we don t see this in ¨Everybody loves
Raymond¨ but there is because they are acting to follow the story of the family but in that particular
way of the viewer listening to the live audience laughing after something funny

the animal characters are very weird. They were supposed to guide Alice through the traditional

Since Alice saw him disappeared in the dark, it seemed that he was trying to drag her to go in the dark
well. This rabbit behavior is very weird because it grabbed Alice s attention and wanted her to go after
her. In our world, the rabbits never want to grab our attention or want us to know where they are.
From Del Toro s Pan Labyrinth, it is connected to Ofelia when she saw the fairy tales in the wood. I
am applying Fairytales as rabbit. When the rabbit hopped away and disappeared in hole, Alice was
upset because she thought that it was supposed to guide her to the world that she has created just like
Ofelia. In my personal experience as a kid, every time I see a rabbit or squirrel, I used to go after
them. All the times, they went in the hole or in the wood. I was upset that I couldn t go after them
anymore just like Alice and Ofelia. Alice s head struck against the roof of the hall and she was more
than nine feet high. She sat down and began to cry. Alice felt very desperate that she was ready to ask
anyone for help. According to Carroll 1865, p. 8, when the White Rabbit came near her, she began in a
low, timid voice, If you please, Sir The White Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid gloves
and the fan, and scurried away into the darkness as fast as he could go. In my opinion, Lewis Carroll
disobeyed the audience by using rabbit as animal character. He didn t do what the audience would
expect.

Kateri Tekakwitha Biography
Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656 to an Algonquian mother and Mohawk father. Tekakwitha was

Steel Beams with Timber Webs
INTRODUCTION 1.1 Objective of Proposed Project This project will develop models enabling the
structural design of steel beams with timber webs (SBTW). The beams analyzed will have three
configurations: an I Beam type where the steel flange width, bf, is greater than the timber web
thickness, tw; a Box Beam configuration where the steel flange width is equal to the timber web
thickness; and an Architectural Beam style where the steel flange width is less than the timber web
thickness and the steel flanges are totally encapsulated within the timber web. The three beam styles
are shown in Figure 1. The physical properties of steel beams with timber webs structures are
expected to be highly influenced by the nature of the connection between steel and timber. However,
the knowledge of the macro mechanical properties of glued steel timber joints is still limited. The
work to be performed intends to increase the body of knowledge on this subject. This research study
was fomented by the desire to reduce the aspect ratio of long span glued laminated beams.
Additionally, the architectural style beam has the possibility of providing the necessary fire protection
for the steel while being an extremely aesthetic alternative for exposed structures. The steel beam with
a timber web would also be a good candidate for stringer highway bridges with a glulam deck
intended for secondary roads. These bridges could be rapidly installed with a minimum of skilled

Civilization Vs Savagery
You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the
ocean does not become dirty. In many cases like society and Lord of the Flies people tend to lose hope
when a few things go wrong, and in those cases that s when things tend to lead to destruction of a
society or a group. When rejected you are often faced with interpersonal consequences from being
rejected, and in most cases it leads to savagery. Many try and say destruction to society or being a
savage is from a genetic disorder and you were born that way. I personally disagree due to the fact that
in most cases, people change and turn against each other causing them to handle their anger in a non

even think about doing this. Things like that don t occur too often: even shown in the book Lord of the

today is, there are the good and the bad. In the book Golding writes he took a step, and able at last to
hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy s stomach (Golding) This reveals a difference between the
savages and the civilized group because Jack uses violence and Ralph controls his anger. Not only
does Jack not know how to control himself but he is not willing to cooperate Jack says, I m not going
to be a part of Ralph s lot (Goulding) this is showing that he is not going to cooperate with the
civilized ones. It shows how much can go wrong just because of one person or one group not getting
their way. If everyone was to work together and not act out because of their rejection or anger like in
Lord of the Flies and society today then the world would be a lot more peaceful and wouldn t have to
deal with so much tension and

Comparative Commentary Essay
The first extract is from a novel called Chocolat by Joanne Harris which was published in 1999,
whereas the second extract is from a website of the From Bean to Bar chocolate company which was
published in 2006. Both extracts concern themselves with chocolate and the way it is manufactured,
although they both have different intentions. The first extract is from a novel and describes the
delightful pleasure of creating chocolate, whereas the second extract is used to promote and advertise
the chocolate and make it more appealing to the reader, and also focuses on the importing and the
cocoa plant itself.
The first extract is from a novel, which can be seen by a variety of techniques which are common for
novels. The text is written ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the text shows a thematic development, which are split up into the different paragraphs. On
the other hand, the second extract uses a larger variety of structures throughout the text. In the first
paragraph the company is introduced and the beliefs which the company has ( We believe that every
step from ban to bar is equally important ). Further, under a heading with care the history of the
chocolate beans and how they reach the factory is described and then bullet points are used to describe
how chocolate is created from the beans. Therefore, this text also has a thematic development, but in
this text it is supposed to familiarize the reader with product and the process to allow the reader to
trust the brand, due to the traditional way of producing chocolate.
The register of the first extract is rather informal, since it explains the story of the narrator and her/his
passion creating a very personal relationship between the narrator and the reader. A very important
part of the extract is to show the fascination and the passion about chocolate, therefore, the diction is
customized to transfer these emotions. Diction such as raw dullish blocks and powerfully suggestive
shows that chocolate is connected to emotions due to the descriptive adjectives used to describe the
chocolate, its history and its process. This informal register allows the reader to be captured by the

Major League Baseball In The 1800 s
The great sport of baseball took a long time to develop into the game it is today. Major League
Baseball wasn t always a bunch of sunflower spitting guys hitting four homeruns a game, in fact, in
the early stages, very few were hit. Major League Baseball has grown tremendously since the 1800 s
and it is still growing. Baseball was created in 1845 by Alexander Cartwright, however the first
official game wasn t played until 1846. In 1858, the National Association of Baseball Players was
created, which was the first official baseball league. Then, as baseball was picking up, the Civil War

The Hero Archetypes In Homer s The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey shows many archetypes throughout this tale of adventure. There is bravery,
death, leadership monsters, and slaughter all circling around the archetypes in the epic. The Odyssey
was set down in writing around 8th century B.C. The story is told by Homer. Odysseus is his main
character The archetype Odysseus plays is the hero. Other archetypes in The Odyssey are the monster
and the father figure. Modern readers gain insight about Ancient Greek culture from the use of
archetypes in Homer s epic, The Odyssey.
The hero archetype is very important in this story. It is the main one and Odysseus represents it. The
hero always tries to defend the greater good at all costs. An example when Odysseus was a hero, was
when he saved his men from the the Cyclops. Odysseus s plan was to escape and to also hurt the
cyclops. After completing his plan, Odysseus said, Cyclops, if ever mortal man inquire how you were
put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye (p. 574). Another
characteristic of the hero archetype is leadership. Odysseus showed leadership when he had to ...

One of the monsters are Polyphemus. He is a cyclops that wants to eat Odysseus and his men. He is a
monster who would function in the same horrifying capacity in a modern horror film. Even
Polyphemus said, We Cyclops care not a whistle for your thundering Zeus or all gods in bliss; we have
more force by far (p. 567). Polyphemus doesn t care, since he s a monster, and eats some of the men.
Another monster in The Odyssey is Scylla. She s destructive because, She made her strike, whisking
six of my best men from the ship (p. 585). Charybdis also fits into the monster archetypes. She was a
giant whirlpool and When she vomited, all the sea was like a cauldron seething over intense fire, when
the mixture suddenly heaves and rises (p. 584). A less intense archetype is the Father

Pretty in Pink Essay
Pretty in Pink – Summary
Pretty in Pink is essentially a love story about a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the rich high
school hunk who has his eye on her, and the peer pressure that threatens their budding romance. Molly
Ringwald plays the character of Andie Walsh, an unpopular poor girl living in the shabbier side of
town. Andrew McCarthy portrays the role of Blane McDonnagh, a wealthy heartthrob who asks her

peers whom are unsupportive of the relationship mostly because of the difference in social class. This,

It is a pretty classic high school fight with teachers running out of their classrooms to intervene. I don
t think this scene does have a big modeling effect because unfortunately the kind of violence
nowadays has escalated to a whole different dimension. Long gone are the days where two kids fought
it out one on one with only their hands as weapons. Gangs, knives, bats, guns, or some other kind of
weapon play center stage in most of the altercations today. There is a level of underlying aggression in
this movie, almost like a pressure cooker slowly building until someone blows. Steff as the bad guy is
aggressive in nature, verbally harassing anyone he deems below him or in Andie s case, anyone who
has the gall to say no to him. He is really setting the stage for Duckie s (good guy) moment of
aggression, when exasperated and fed up with the entire situation, he physically attacks Steff. I think
Duckie has just about had it, and although most blows are obviously in defense of Andie, I think he
snuck in a couple for himself (unpopular teen) too! I would say the justification for this moment of
violence comes from the fact that this is probably years in the making. These teens are seniors in high
school, and I m sure anyone would blow their lid after what was most certainly fours years of
bullying. When Duckie glares Steff down in the hallway, he seems angry but also apprehensive of
acting upon his feelings until a cocky

Summary Of The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere
In the poem The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere by Samuel Coleridge, the Marinere attains a change of
mindset about the sea snakes he encounters on his journey. This moment in the poem is more than a
simple shift from the disliking to affinity for an animal; the moment shows a larger change within the
Marinere himself. When one views this in conjunction with the concept of seeing in Carlos Castaneda
s novel A Separate Reality, one can discover that the Marinere completes the act of seeing. In realizing
this feat of the Marinere, it portrays him as a sentimental character than may one first assume. By
being able to see, the Marinere creates the shift in perspective regarding the sea snakes and gains
respect for all beings by the end of the work.
The Marinere s initial view of the sea snakes is an extension of his perception regarding his
unfavorable situation. The Mariner s first view of the sea snakes is one filled with contempt, which is
caused by his overall feelings of despair and loneliness he feels for being the sole survivor on the ship.
At this point, the Mariner relates that he is alone and his soul is in agony (IV, 224 227). He further
describes his separation from the other beings present observing his fellow crewmen now the dead
men that lay on the deck as beautiful (IV, 228 229), the living sea snakes as a million million slimy
things, and then describes himself as simply liv[ing] without any further adjective this associates him

Words Kill War
The picture portrays speaking out. Telling leaders to talk about the problems you have with each other
instead of killing the innocent. Wars all over the world are not being talked about enough. It s sad that
we as people have simply became comfortable with people killing others simply because they are
doing something we do not like. We also don t act upon the killing of thousands of women and their
children in other countries. An article states that talking more equals less fighting. Choose dialogue
over death and destruction. That is a sentiment that we can all stand behind. It is not too late to create
a world where words kill wars. Women in Iran are seen as property. They have no rights. A young
Iranian feminist stated that her and many other women are against war and they should scream it loud
and they shouldn t be afraid of being heard. Many of those women want children, and want to know
what it s like to be free. They also want to find jobs and be independent. The war and the law is
hindering many of those things from happening. The physical, sexual, and violent environment
children are exposed to during war is devastating. It destroys their outlook on the people that are
supposed to be protecting them. Many children die or fall ill from the pollution from the war. Many
doctors and nurses have been killed or left the country. The children and adults who are sick or hurt

The answer to that problem is the number of the next problem to be solved. The students are engaged
in this activity and through this this process solve all the problems assigned for that class period.
While I observed one English class, the teacher even engaged the students while taking attendance.
When she called each student s name, they replied with oldest , middle , youngest , or only child in the
family. When learning the vocabulary words, students had to illustrate and write a caption for each
word. In order to engage students for this activity, instead of just telling or writing the topic, the
teacher said, Who lives in a pineapple under a tree and the students replied, Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Because there are a few students who do not like to write, but love Sponge Bob, they were excited
about writing that day. Those students who did not care about Sponge Bob, were allowed to write

Women s Role in Society in Pride and Prejudice, by Jane...
Over the centuries, women s duties or roles in the home and in the work force have arguably changed
for the better. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen teaches the reader about reputation and loves in the
nineteenth and twenty first centuries by showing how Elizabeth shows up in a muddy dress, declines a
marriage proposal and how women have changed over time. Anything a woman does is reflected on
her future and how other people look at her. When Elizabeth shows up to the Bingley s in a muddy

Loneliness is a battle that all people will once face at a certain point in their life; it is how they handle
it that determines the outcome of that battle. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein loneliness is the most
significant and prevailing theme throughout the entire novel. Shelley takes her readers on a wild

It was dark when I awoke; I felt cold also, and half frightened as it were instinctively, finding myself
so desolate (Shelley 68) For the monster it is the constant rejection and its abandonment by
Frankenstein at birth that leads it to loneliness and extreme anxiety. In all probability, the creature was
reaching out, as a small child does to their mother, but his ugly appearance only frightened Victor into
running away (Coulter) The main reason for its rejection is the monster s outward appearance. The
rejection by humans in general and specifically by its creator only increases the monsters feelings of
loneliness, emotional abandonment, and, as a result, anger. The loneliness of the Creature leads it to
unbelievable acts of violence, the first one being the killing of Frankenstein s youngest brother
William. The monster describes its terrible act in detail: I gazed on my victim, and my heart swelled
with exultation and hellish triumph: clapping my hands, I exclaimed, I too can create desolation; my
enemy is not impregnable; this death will carry despair to him, and a thousand other miseries shall
torment and destroy him (Shelley 97). Shelley is trying to teach the world a lesson by illustrating that
the monster is not just a scientific project, the monster is a living emotional being. Frankenstein even

The Negative Effects Of Natural Disasters
Natural disasters are a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of the Earth, and man
made disasters are influenced by humans and they are often as a result of negligence and human error
among the factors. There is long term physical and psychological reaction of people from both
disasters. Tsunamis, Hurricanes, and Landslides are some examples of natural disasters. On the other
hand, Gas leaks, fire accidents, and oil spills are some examples for man made disaster. They both
have a bad effect on humans. There are many people died after both disasters.
As we all know natural disasters are a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of the
Earth. A natural disaster is defined by the UN as: the consequences of events triggered by natural
hazards that overwhelm local response capacity and seriously affect the social and economic
development of a region. Tsunamis are a long high sea wave caused by an earthquake, submarine
landslide, or other disturbance. The tsunami accrued in Japan on 11 March 2011 is one of the biggest
Tsunamis happened in the world. The study by 150 experts from 48 research organizations across the
country determined that the wave that roared out of the Pacific on March 11 was the largest to ever hit
Japan when it struck the Omoeaneyoshi district of Miyako City, in Iwate Prefecture. Hurricanes are
also accruing by natural disasters, a hurricane is a storm with a violent wind, in particular, a tropical

you to remain silent and unengaged. This means that you won t end up like the guy in front of me in

Promising Agent: Our promising agent is a rational drug because we know the target and are
designing a drug to target that specific protein. The protein we are targeting is the Sirtuin 1 protein.
This drug works on a molecular level by decreasing the amount of protein SIRT1 found in kidney
epithelial cells. SIRT1 has been found to prevent cystic epithelial apoptosis, meaning it prevents cells
from dying that cause the formation of cysts in the kidneys. By inhibiting SIRT1, apoptosis will be
activated and increased, and cystic cells will die, which will slow the growth of existing cysts, and
prevent the growth of new cysts in the kidneys, and possibly the liver, and other organs this disease
can sometimes affect. The solution of the drug works by inhibiting SIRT1. In ADPKD, the levels of
SIRT1 are dramatically increased in kidney epithelial cells. By inhibiting SIRT1, we will essentially
be delaying the growth of cysts, and stopping the formation of new cysts from developing in the
kidneys which is what makes ADPKD such a deliberating disease. SIRT1 is a very smart protein,

A Brief Note On The Athlete s Training Program Essay
Periodization in Bodybuilding
You may ask why the use of periodization in training programs? , well the goal of periodization is to
help maximize what you gain of your training while reducing the risk of getting injured in the long
term. The way this is done is with an intelligently designed training year program that contains smaller
blocks of time that each has its specific goal and priority. This kind of overall schedule includes many
aspects of an athlete s training program and it may include specific training such as; strength training,
conditioning, plyometric, and also any specific sport activities. However in this essay I will specify
the use of periodization in bodybuilding which is a sport that has become very popular in recent times.
What is Periodization?
In simple terms, Periodization is the planning and organization of training. When periodization is used
in sport, it is usually used based on achieving specific goals such as gaining maximal physical
capabilities (strength, power, speed, etc...) for a given period of competition. For example in
bodybuilding, the training may be planned around a specific competition.
In bodybuilding periodization is not an unusual thing, in fact most bodybuilders periodize their
training anyway and this is to reach their specific goal whether it is to reduce body fat or bring up a
lagging body part. Generally speaking, if you have an aim to reach a goal by a given time, then in
actual fact you are using periodization.

A Brief Note On Vegetation Surrounding A River
Background
Riparian vegetation surrounding a river plays a vital role in the input of energy into the river system in
the form of dead leaves, twigs, and branches (Knight et al., 1984). Every year during the fall,
deciduous trees begin to drop their leaves as they prepare for winter. Leaves dropped from riparian
vegetation typically find their way into the river system, whether it be by wind, direct fall, or strong
rains. This annual event also serves as an important annual influx of energy for the river ecosystem. In
Bear Brook, New Hampshire, 99% of the annual input energy into the freshwater aquatic system is
allochthonous from the forested watershed or upstream areas (Fisher and Likens, 1973). Of this 99%,
44% is provided by leaf and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In lentic habitats, floating leaf matter tends to settle down in the water column and cease drifting
(Cummins et al. 1980). If leaves cease drifting, then they are no longer able to collect in riffles and
form leaf packs downstream.
Downstream from the dam, lentic habitats are converted to lotic and erosion increases as a result of
the faster moving water (McConnell and Lowe McConnell, 1987). Given the fact that, above the dam,
leaves are taken out of the system as a result of settling, there may then be less leaves to collect in the
riffles downstream from the dam. Also, since the water below the dam is faster flowing than what it is
upstream, riffles that may have produced large leaf packs are scoured of leaves by the high water
velocity. Since shredders depend on leaf mats as a source of food, it is likely that they are also affected
by the presence of the dam.
Justification
While many studies have focused on the changes of habitat and populations of aquatic invertebrates
caused by low head dams (eg., Dean et al., 2002; Tiemann et al., 2004; Santucci et al., 2005) there
have been no studies conducted that focus specifically on the effects of low head dams on the
formation of leaf packs or how the presence of these leaf packs affect shredder abundance. Shredders
are important to the river ecosystem, as they are one of the key groups of aquatic insects found within

Analysis Of A Midsummer Night s Dream
Gabriel Yeung Mr. Ross ENG1DE A January 17th 2014 Humor. Humor is a quality of an action that
causes amusement and entertainment. A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare
is a play best known in the Shakespearian world for being a comedy play. This play has entertained
countless audiences over a span of many centuries. A Midsummer Night s Dream is about two pairs of
lovers that escape to the forest in order to make love for one another. While doing so, fairies in the
forest create chaos which causes the lover to be confused in who they truly love. The misinterpretation
on their identity relates to the major theme of the play which is love versus lust and reality versus
illusions. The language the Shakespeare chose to use in the play to create an interesting plotline
creates humor as well as entertaining the audience. Among the language use, the literary devices that
are most prominent to make the play humorous are dramatic irony, enjambment, and imagery. These
devices not only entertain and create humor for the audience but also help develop a plotline in which
many are interested in. Dramatic irony is one of the most evident devices used in the play. The term
dramatic irony is defined as an idea/ plot that the reader or audience knows off in a story or play but
the character in the play do not. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, the existence of fairies is a major
dramatic irony. The fairies are the mystical creatures that inhibit and lurk around in the

  • 2. Reading And Writing Is Essential For Understanding And... In this day and age reading and writing are fundamental functions for everything a person does. Reading is essential for understanding and comprehending warning signs and instructions on a medicine bottle as well as filling out applications. It is important that one knows how to read in order to find a job or to use it for their benefits. Writing is also an important part of anyone s life. Writing is use as a tool of expression and a basis of which your work will be judged throughout one s life. The work that one has to put into getting an education is never the best part of an average adult s life. Today, many people are met with obstacles that prevent them from getting qualifications however, when these obstacles are overcome, an education can be gained by anyone, anytime and anyplace. Nonetheless, for anyone trying to gain an education or higher education, one must be dedicated and have the drive to reach their goals. For Malcolm X and Frederick Douglass, gaining an education was very different for them as it was difficult and it was almost an impossible goal to achieve. Both of these men never stopped working towards their dream of one day learning how to read and write and this should be an example to young adults of today. X and Douglass foreshadowed the difficulty of gaining an education. In this essay, I will described how two individuals of oppression strived to better themselves via education. Malcolm X gained the knowledge of reading and writing easier than that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Culture In The Middle Ages Imagine going back in time with no stove, microwave, fast food, restaurants, grocery stores, or refrigerators. Technology today gives us access to safer, healthier, and quicker food. The Middle Ages was a time of culture deterioration. Throughout this period it wasn t known for it s food or good diet. In medieval times, most people only ate two or three types of food. After the agricultural revolution, peasants did not have a lot of access to a variety of food. They grew what they ate, which was also collected for a tax. Peasants typically grow things like potatoes, corn, leeks, barley, rye and wheat. Compared to hunter gatherer societies prior to the agricultural revolution, peasants were very unhealthy. They only ate the same two to three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sexuality in Aubrey Beardsley s Story of Venus and... Sexuality in Aubrey Beardsley s Story of Venus and Tannhäuser Aubrey Beardsley wrote The Story of Venus and Tannhäuser during the fin de siècle, the end of the Victorian Era. This decadent work, following Baudelaire s credo art for art s sake first of all, portrays sex and sexualities in a playful manner. In addition to mocking conventional Victorian moral codes, and parodying pornographic conventions, The Story of Venus and Tannhäuser also supports Foucault s idea that the Victorian Era witnessed a diffusion of sexualities. The Story of Venus and Tannhäuser was originally toned down and modified for publication in 1897 in The Savoy, a magazine that Beardsley served as art editor, under the title of Under The Hill. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beardsley s readers were not to be of the common society; rather they had to be well educated sophisticates to understand his work. Another pornographic convention that Beardsley broke was that the characters had personalities and functions in addition to sexual roles says Zatlin (119). Also, they did not have unlimited sexual energy, rather Tannhäuser was rather relieved when, an hour later, Priapusa and Doricourt and some others burst drunkenly into the room and claimed Venus for themselves (Beardsley 34). With the diverse accounts of sexualities and the breaking of almost all of the prerequisites for erotic writing and pornography of the Victorian Era, Beardsley wrote a truly decadent manuscript that defied the conventions of mainstream literature. Whether Beardsley would have completed the tale had he lived longer, or had meant to leave it as is, an unending piece of work, is unknown. What is known is that Venus and Tannhäuser functions only as a piece of art for art s sake defying the social conventions that were applied to other works of that time. Works Cited Beardsley, Aubrey. • 5. The Importance Of Firearms In Schools Recent polls conducted across the United States surveying students about concealed weapon carry laws show that almost eighty percent of students oppose the concealed carrying of firearms on school campuses. Only five percent of students said they believe that carrying firearms on campus would prevent school shootings or other violent acts relating to carrying guns on campus (Book 22). Overall, the majority of American students oppose concealed carry laws and are concerned about the safety of themselves and or others if they attend a school that allows concealed carrying. Lately, the debate over whether or not concealed carry laws should be allowed or not on school campuses has slowly been disappearing. If so many students across the United States are concerned about firearms on their own school campus then, therefore, the rest of the U.S. should be too. Currently, many states allow each school to choose if firearms should be allowed on their campuses, however, firearms should not be allowed at all in schools across the United States. There are more possibilities for firearms to have a bad impact rather than a good impact on campuses including increases in crime and theft, concerns of safety, and the possibility of firearms being stolen and used. The most important concern about allowing guns to be carried on campuses is, of course, the safety of the students, teachers, administrators, and visitors. Firearms in the hands of students or anyone else on campus endanger everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Student Body Vice President Being Student Body Vice president was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever been a part of. I know that many kids think it is lame and has no point, but for me it really felt good to have a say in what went on at my high school. Student council is a very eclectic group from the band kids to the football jocks. Another thing that is different than most things I have been a part of was the fact that all grades were together. Up until student council I had never been a part of an organization where everyone was so different. It was great to have people from all different walks of life because then student council really was representing the whole school, but this also brought on many worries for me. From the first day the teacher had told me that I would be the one doing most of the in class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I proceeded to tell her how I knew the football guys and cheerleaders were going to take it as a joke and how the band kids would only want to plan weird events that no one would go to. I had gone into this so excited and now, after just one day, I was ready to quit. My mom told me I should stick it out longer, so I did. The next few weeks we were planning homecoming, and to my surprise the band kids had great ideas and the popular kids actually showed up to meeting to help plan. In a weird way everyone s very different personalities just began to jive together. With homecoming just 2 days away everyone s ideas had come together and all that was left was the setup. I was super happy, but still being a little pessimistic. Homecoming had come and went and we were having a student council party at my house to celebrate. Everyone at this point was friends and mingling around until our teacher said he had an announcement. He told us that this was the most successful dance the school had ever had and that we raised almost 50% more than all years past. Everyone was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. A Teacher Can Impact A Student s Life Confucius, a famous Chinese teacher said, Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace. In the previous quote by Confucius, it is obvious that a teacher can impact a student s life. Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which may help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness, encouraging students, and finding the right teaching methods for each student are three of the many characteristics in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have an appropriate relationship between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their students to understand students difficulties and their situation in life. Providing an email address, phone number, and office hours help students to keep in touch with their instructor. However, teachers need to keep the balance between friendliness and strictness; moreover, an inspirational instructor needs to set up some rules for the classroom environment. For example, the instructor may request students politely that they are not allowed to use their phone during the class because it distracts them from paying attention to the class and subject. However, instructors should not be hard for their students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some dreamed of owning lands and of a life improvement, others were escaping from something that was troubling them, and some were trying to institute a way of living based on the sacred scriptures. Pilgrims first and Puritans after tried to establish a new and much more pure form of worship. Although this two groups had the same desire to apply the protestant reformation to the new world, certainly they differ in so many ways. First and foremost the terms and their meanings differ. In fact, while the term pilgrim indicates the one who made a journey for religious purposes, the term puritan defines the one that wants to reform and purify the church. In 1620, a group ... • 10. An Organization s Performance Management Plan Essay Introduction According to Caldwell (2002, pp 8), performance management is defined as a proactive partnership between employees and management that helps employees perform at their best and alight their contributions with the goals, values and initiatives of the organisation . High performing organisations are created through individual accountability for both the achievement of an organisation s results and its cultural foundation. Culture in its simplest terms is how we do things around here . And while culture change needs to be led from the top, it is everyone in the organisation s responsibility. The success balances on all employees being accountable for achieving the organisation s goals, living the organisation s values and demonstrating the right personal behaviour. Factors involved in performance management An organisation s performance management plan must identify the contributions each employee makes in achieving the organisation s goals and objectives. Performance management is a continual process that requires the engagement and participation of all involved. This is the process to create a work environment where employees can perform their duties to the best of their abilities. To be constituted as effective performance management, the following must be evident: Employees must have a clear job description A fair and equitable process and promote open lines of communication between the employee and the employee s manager Build employees ... Bluefard states that the Hasidic Jews (Danny s family) revert to earlier scholasticism, mostly used in Europe, by teaching through silence. Basically meaning that he doesn t speak of anything but religion and scholastic subjects. Bluefard talks about how strict Danny s Hasidic father is and how Danny is forced and pressured into being a Rabbi, thus influencing Danny to rebel. The Orthodox Jews on the other hand, are quite the opposite. Bluefard talks about how Reuven s father is much nicer, more open, and understanding. In summary, it focuses on freedom of speech, and how we tend to lose sight of it, or even have it taken from us during national hardships. McKerns asserts foreigners were the ones portrayed as a threat rather than merely exercising free speech [par.18]. He also alleges the daily press made a convenient separation, seeing the speech of the political activist as different from what it did [par.17]. By accentuating her interest of immigrant s rights, could it be she is supporting yet again, her past organization? Where do her priorities lie? So far we have identified her support of national freedom and immigrant s rights. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One criterion of a good movie is its use of dynamic character development. This can be seen in the scene where Arlene s ex husband, Ricky (Jon Bon Jovi) returns home. He becomes drunk and starts verbally abusing Arlene and threatening Trevor. No longer a submissive wife, she quickly throws Ricky out of the house. Arlene has learned to protect herself and her son, rather than please a man. Another example is the development of Mr. Simonet. In the beginning of the movie, he was a harsh teacher who showed little sympathy. Through his relationship with Arlene, Mr. Simonet grows to be compassionate and sympathetic towards the McKinney s situation. This use of dynamic character development implies a sense of motion and drives the plot. Furthermore, the musical selection for a movie is just as important as the plot. Without music, there would be no suspense or drama. For example, when Trevor is in his room hiding from his parents yelling, he turns on the radio to listen to Last Resort by Papa Roach. The song is about wanting to end the internal suffering and agony through self harm and/or suicide. The lyrics, I m contemplating suicide Cause I m losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I m fine are important to the scene because they convey Trevor s emotional struggle. From Del Toro s Pan Labyrinth, it is connected to Ofelia when she saw the fairy tales in the wood. I am applying Fairytales as rabbit. When the rabbit hopped away and disappeared in hole, Alice was upset because she thought that it was supposed to guide her to the world that she has created just like Ofelia. In my personal experience as a kid, every time I see a rabbit or squirrel, I used to go after them. All the times, they went in the hole or in the wood. I don t think this scene does have a big modeling effect because unfortunately the kind of violence nowadays has escalated to a whole different dimension. Long gone are the days where two kids fought it out one on one with only their hands as weapons. Gangs, knives, bats, guns, or some other kind of weapon play center stage in most of the altercations today. There is a level of underlying aggression in this movie, almost like a pressure cooker slowly building until someone blows. Steff as the bad guy is aggressive in nature, verbally harassing anyone he deems below him or in Andie s case, anyone who has the gall to say no to him. He is really setting the stage for Duckie s (good guy) moment of aggression, when exasperated and fed up with the entire situation, he physically attacks Steff. I think Duckie has just about had it, and although most blows are obviously in defense of Andie, I think he snuck in a couple for himself (unpopular teen) too! I would say the justification for this moment of violence comes from the fact that this is probably years in the making. These teens are seniors in high school, and I m sure anyone would blow their lid after what was most certainly fours years of bullying. When Duckie glares Steff down in the hallway, he seems angry but also apprehensive of acting upon his feelings until a cocky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Summary Of The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere In the poem The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere by Samuel Coleridge, the Marinere attains a change of mindset about the sea snakes he encounters on his journey. This moment in the poem is more than a simple shift from the disliking to affinity for an animal; the moment shows a larger change within the Marinere himself. When one views this in conjunction with the concept of seeing in Carlos Castaneda s novel A Separate Reality, one can discover that the Marinere completes the act of seeing. In realizing this feat of the Marinere, it portrays him as a sentimental character than may one first assume. By being able to see, the Marinere creates the shift in perspective regarding the sea snakes and gains respect for all beings by the end of the work. The Marinere s initial view of the sea snakes is an extension of his perception regarding his unfavorable situation. The Mariner s first view of the sea snakes is one filled with contempt, which is caused by his overall feelings of despair and loneliness he feels for being the sole survivor on the ship. At this point, the Mariner relates that he is alone and his soul is in agony (IV, 224 227). He further describes his separation from the other beings present observing his fellow crewmen now the dead men that lay on the deck as beautiful (IV, 228 229), the living sea snakes as a million million slimy things, and then describes himself as simply liv[ing] without any further adjective this associates him more closely with what he ... • 31. Summary Of Kill War Ayana Jakes English 1010 Essay 2 Draft 2 Sabrina Blaum Sept. 22, 2016 Words Kill War The picture portrays speaking out. Telling leaders to talk about the problems you have with each other instead of killing the innocent. Wars all over the world are not being talked about enough. It s sad that we as people have simply became comfortable with people killing others simply because they are doing something we do not like. We also don t act upon the killing of thousands of women and their children in other countries. An article states that talking more equals less fighting. Choose dialogue over death and destruction. That is a sentiment that we can all stand behind. It is not too late to create a world where words kill wars. Women in Iran are seen as property. They have no rights. A young Iranian feminist stated that her and many other women are against war and they should scream it loud and they shouldn t be afraid of being heard. Many of those women want children, and want to know what it s like to be free. They also want to find jobs and be independent. The war and the law is hindering many of those things from happening. The physical, sexual, and violent environment children are exposed to during war is devastating. It destroys their outlook on the people that are supposed to be protecting them. Many children die or fall ill from the pollution from the war. Many doctors and nurses have been killed or left the country. The children and adults who are sick or hurt has no ... While I observed one English class, the teacher even engaged the students while taking attendance. When she called each student s name, they replied with oldest , middle , youngest , or only child in the family. When learning the vocabulary words, students had to illustrate and write a caption for each word. In order to engage students for this activity, instead of just telling or writing the topic, the teacher said, Who lives in a pineapple under a tree and the students replied, Sponge Bob Square Pants. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen teaches the reader about reputation and loves in the nineteenth and twenty first centuries by showing how Elizabeth shows up in a muddy dress, declines a marriage proposal and how women have changed over time. Anything a woman does is reflected on her future and how other people look at her. When Elizabeth shows up to the Bingley s in a muddy dress they categorize her as being low class and unfashionable. Shelley takes her readers on a wild journey that shows how loneliness can end in tragedy. Robert Walton is the first character introduced that is lonely. It was dark when I awoke; I felt cold also, and half frightened as it were instinctively, finding myself so desolate (Shelley 68) For the monster it is the constant rejection and its abandonment by Frankenstein at birth that leads it to loneliness and extreme anxiety. In all probability, the creature was reaching out, as a small child does to their mother, but his ugly appearance only frightened Victor into running away (Coulter) The main reason for its rejection is the monster s outward appearance. The rejection by humans in general and specifically by its creator only increases the monsters feelings of loneliness, emotional abandonment, and, as a result, anger. The loneliness of the Creature leads it to unbelievable acts of violence, the first one being the killing of Frankenstein s youngest brother William. The monster describes its terrible act in detail: I gazed on my victim, and my heart swelled with exultation and hellish triumph: clapping my hands, I exclaimed, I too can create desolation; my enemy is not impregnable; this death will carry despair to him, and a thousand other miseries shall torment and destroy him (Shelley 97). • 36. Benefits of Attending Boarding School for the Arts Some might ask why anyone would even begin to want to leave home for something like high school. Why would you leave your home, your friends, your family? It is indeed a good question, one which I will answer in this essay. The most important reason I want to go to boarding school is for the arts. Don t get me wrong; I love my school. It is an arts magnet school, of course, and does have a partial emphasis on them, but I want to go somewhere where the whole school is focused on what I love to do most: perform. This gives you even more time to learn, also less free time, but it keeps you busy you re always engaged, always learning, and never bored. Most boarding school classes operate very differently from those at public school. At public school, your teachers get tired of you trying to engage them with multiple questions they re there to teach, gosh dang it, not listen to students and their stupid ramblings. At boarding school, the class structure is much less like a lecture hall and much more like a conference meeting: everyone offers input and it s nearly impossible for you to remain silent and unengaged. This means that you won t end up like the guy in front of me in geometry who simply sits and scrolls Facebook because no one has enough time to just sit and discuss his issues and grades with him. Boarding school also contains incredible resources. A weight room, swimming pool, fully stocked library, and amazing theatre facilities are some of the ones at Walnut Hill. Cell Proliferation And Its Effects On Our Patient s... homeostasis and cAMP are both dysregulated, this in turn leads to alterations in the pathways that carry out cell proliferation, allowing for cells to rapidly reproduce. In terms of fluid secretion, it increases causing inflammation within the kidneys. Apoptosis is downregulated, so the rapid proliferation of cystic cells have no way to be killed by apoptosis, therefore cysts are easily developed. The need for intervention in this disease is obvious, without it patient s quality of life is greatly depleted. (See Figure 2) Figure 2: Functions of SIRT1 (Medscape, SIRT1 and SIRT3 Functions, Medscape, 16 Apr. 2017, http://www.medscape.com) Promising Agent: Our promising agent is a rational drug because we know the target and are designing a drug to target that specific protein. The protein we are targeting is the Sirtuin 1 protein. This drug works on a molecular level by decreasing the amount of protein SIRT1 found in kidney epithelial cells. SIRT1 has been found to prevent cystic epithelial apoptosis, meaning it prevents cells from dying that cause the formation of cysts in the kidneys. By inhibiting SIRT1, apoptosis will be activated and increased, and cystic cells will die, which will slow the growth of existing cysts, and prevent the growth of new cysts in the kidneys, and possibly the liver, and other organs this disease can sometimes affect. The solution of the drug works by inhibiting SIRT1. In ADPKD, the levels of SIRT1 are dramatically increased in kidney epithelial cells. By inhibiting SIRT1, we will essentially be delaying the growth of cysts, and stopping the formation of new cysts from developing in the kidneys which is what makes ADPKD such a deliberating disease. • 38. A Brief Note On The Athlete s Training Program Essay Periodization in Bodybuilding You may ask why the use of periodization in training programs? , well the goal of periodization is to help maximize what you gain of your training while reducing the risk of getting injured in the long term. The way this is done is with an intelligently designed training year program that contains smaller blocks of time that each has its specific goal and priority. This kind of overall schedule includes many aspects of an athlete s training program and it may include specific training such as; strength training, conditioning, plyometric, and also any specific sport activities. However in this essay I will specify the use of periodization in bodybuilding which is a sport that has become very popular in recent times. What is Periodization? In simple terms, Periodization is the planning and organization of training. When periodization is used in sport, it is usually used based on achieving specific goals such as gaining maximal physical capabilities (strength, power, speed, etc...) for a given period of competition. For example in bodybuilding, the training may be planned around a specific competition. In bodybuilding periodization is not an unusual thing, in fact most bodybuilders periodize their training anyway and this is to reach their specific goal whether it is to reduce body fat or bring up a lagging body part. Generally speaking, if you have an aim to reach a goal by a given time, then in actual fact you are using periodization. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. A Brief Note On Vegetation Surrounding A River Background Riparian vegetation surrounding a river plays a vital role in the input of energy into the river system in the form of dead leaves, twigs, and branches (Knight et al., 1984). Every year during the fall, deciduous trees begin to drop their leaves as they prepare for winter. Leaves dropped from riparian vegetation typically find their way into the river system, whether it be by wind, direct fall, or strong rains. This annual event also serves as an important annual influx of energy for the river ecosystem. In Bear Brook, New Hampshire, 99% of the annual input energy into the freshwater aquatic system is allochthonous from the forested watershed or upstream areas (Fisher and Likens, 1973). Of this 99%, 44% is provided by leaf and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In lentic habitats, floating leaf matter tends to settle down in the water column and cease drifting (Cummins et al. 1980). If leaves cease drifting, then they are no longer able to collect in riffles and form leaf packs downstream. Downstream from the dam, lentic habitats are converted to lotic and erosion increases as a result of the faster moving water (McConnell and Lowe McConnell, 1987). Given the fact that, above the dam, leaves are taken out of the system as a result of settling, there may then be less leaves to collect in the riffles downstream from the dam. Also, since the water below the dam is faster flowing than what it is upstream, riffles that may have produced large leaf packs are scoured of leaves by the high water velocity. Since shredders depend on leaf mats as a source of food, it is likely that they are also affected by the presence of the dam. Justification While many studies have focused on the changes of habitat and populations of aquatic invertebrates caused by low head dams (eg., Dean et al., 2002; Tiemann et al., 2004; Santucci et al., 2005) there have been no studies conducted that focus specifically on the effects of low head dams on the formation of leaf packs or how the presence of these leaf packs affect shredder abundance. Shredders are important to the river ecosystem, as they are one of the key groups of aquatic insects found within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Analysis Of A Midsummer Night s Dream Gabriel Yeung Mr. Ross ENG1DE A January 17th 2014 Humor. Humor is a quality of an action that causes amusement and entertainment. A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare is a play best known in the Shakespearian world for being a comedy play. This play has entertained countless audiences over a span of many centuries. A Midsummer Night s Dream is about two pairs of lovers that escape to the forest in order to make love for one another. While doing so, fairies in the forest create chaos which causes the lover to be confused in who they truly love. The misinterpretation on their identity relates to the major theme of the play which is love versus lust and reality versus illusions. The language the Shakespeare chose to use in the play to create an interesting plotline creates humor as well as entertaining the audience. Among the language use, the literary devices that are most prominent to make the play humorous are dramatic irony, enjambment, and imagery. These devices not only entertain and create humor for the audience but also help develop a plotline in which many are interested in.
