Book Analysis Of Nomi Nickel
Style
Upon reading the first page, I knew this would be an enjoyable read. Not only is Nomi s family
entertaining because of their quirky ways but Miriam Toews sarcastic sense of humor thrown into
Nomi s everyday activities keeps the tone of the book light even when Nomi goes through trialing
times. The book is written in the first person narrative, told from the perspective of Nomi Nickel and
read similar to a memoir. The story starts off smack dab in the middle of Nomi s present day teenage
life and quickly moves into her childhood which is done to show why she is the way she is.
Ultimately, this is effective because it helps me to step inside the main characters head to view her
thoughts and helps me to understand the reason behind her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While I m not entirely sure what the meaning of blood means yet ___it could mean____ after reading
further it should become known. A clear juxtaposition observed would be between the old town and
the new. Even tourists see this connection as one commented: now there s a priceless juxtaposition of
old and new.
Reaction
I do not like The Mouth and find him creepy. The reason being is mostly because of the tight hold he
has over the town through the bizarre purge he started when he became the pastor. Although after
learning his backstory, it all made sense, and I began to feel sorry for him. The Mouth changed from
an ordinary guy finding his way in the world to an extreme religious leader. It seems he uses his
religion to protect himself because of what happened in his past when he went out into the world to
explore. Moreover, outside of the Mennonite faith, everything was too free, and he couldn t handle the
pressure of it as he s more comfortable in the boundaries of his religion where no one can judge him.
Travis does not seem to be competent boyfriend material. He shows little respect for Nomi by leaving
her out in the rain, and through his constant quest to change her. Nomi expresses questioning thoughts
when she often feels pressured to talk and carry intelligent conversations to satisfy him. It disheartens
me to think that she stays with him; I believe boredom and low self esteem cause this. I think the type
of people that follow this religion are born

American Education Ideology Research Paper

The American Education Ideology
The importance of education is highly emphasized in American culture today. According to most
members of society, the more educated a person is, the better off they will be in the long run. The idea
that the furthering of one s education is important and is something everyone should partake in even as
adults can be considered an ideology, which is a system of beliefs or theories held by an individual or
a group.
Because of this educational growth mindset, plenty of American parents enroll their children in some
type of school program at an early age. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the
percentage of American children who attend

Pros And Cons Of Leasing Vs. Buy
Lease vs. Buy 1. Introduction:
In today s world, customers often face a dilemma about whether to buy or lease. Lease is an
agreement in which one party gains a long term rental agreement, and the other party receives a form
of secured long term debt. On the other hand, buying involves transfer of ownership from seller to
buyer. Buying or leasing decision depends mostly on customer s preference. There are many factors to
consider before taking a buying or leasing decision. 2. Factors Influencing Buying vs. Leasing
Decision:
Following are the factors a customer should consider before taking a buying or leasing decision. 3.1.
Advantages of Leasing: 1. Low monthly payment: Monthly lease payments are 30 60% lower than ...

Down payment: For purchase loans usually customers are required to make a big down payment. 2.
Monthly payments: Monthly payments for purchase loans are higher than for lease. 3. Depreciation:
The moment a product is sold it is considered as used product and price of the product is less. There
are some exceptions to this rule as land; gold etc. usually appreciates over time. For other products
customers are actually buying products that will depreciate over time. 4. Maintenance: Maintenance
cost is high for purchased products as after manufacturing warranty runs out customers need to pay
maintenance cost. 5. Technology: In today s world technology changes rapidly. By buying a product a
customer is stuck with that product or need to sell that product at depreciated price to get latest
product. 6. Life plans: Buying may be disadvantageous to people who are expecting changes in their
life. For example, from a single professional someone can become a parent of three in 3 years. So for
him/her selling a compact car after three years and replacing it with minivan is would be more
expensive then leasing the first car and simple returning it. 7. Hassle of disposing: For purchased
products a customer needs to take the hassle of selling or recycling it.
3. Lease vs. Buy Scenario:
Now I am going to compare between buying a car vs. leasing a car. For this purpose I am assuming
the customer is going to take a purchase loan. Another

Brass Band Civil War
Brass Bands were a popular ensemble centered around the Civil War era. Crawford and Hamberlin
(2013) credit these ensembles to being an exhibition of Nationalism and patriotism for their respective
sides of the Union or Confederacy. Brass bands were initially used by the military to boost the morale
of soldiers. After many of these musicians served their time in the army, they still performed simply
for the love of music. Brass bands generally consisted of brass instruments such as the bugle, cornet,
sackbut, saxhorn, snare and bass drum. A unique instrument of the ensemble is the saxhorn
(APPENDIX A), an instrument family consisting of the flugelhorn, baritone, and alto horn. Today, the
instrument is still used but mostly as euphonium/baritone, flugelhorn, or mellophone. Lewis (2015),
discusses a twelve key bugle unique to the Civil War era, to be a very common solo instrument. This
keyed bugle was an improvement to the original open key bugle of the American Revolutionary War
(APPENDIX B). Two songs unique to both Civil War and Post Civil War era brass bands are Battle
Hymn of the Republic and Dixie. The Battle Hymn of the Republic was a poem by Julia Howe with a
refrain that was later added with the chorus Glory, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally composed as a minstrel tune, it would become the anthem of the Confederacy. Dixie Is a
binary form composition, with a simple musical theme introduced, followed by a chorus. The original
idea is restated with the same lyrics, or an instrumental solo, proceeded again with the main chorus of
the song. (APPENDIX C). Unlike the Battle Hymn, Dixie does not have a military feel. Instead, it
resembles folk music. Currently, brass bands serve as a great influence for military style marching
bands in America. Runnels (2016) shares an example where these original brass band compositions
are still performed as a source of patriotism and national

Zheng He Research Paper
Born: 1371, Kunyang Subdistrict (North of Present Day Laos)
Died: 1433, Kozhikode (Calicut), India
Circumstances of Death:
It is generally accepted (based on Ming dynasty records) that Zheng He died in 1433 at Calicut in
India during the return leg of the seventh voyage and was buried in Calicut or at sea, although some
theories, based on artifacts associated with him and believed to be from later than 1433, posit that he
died shortly after that voyage in 1434 or early 1435.
Historical Context
Zheng He was an admiral and diplomat who helped to extend the maritime and commercial influence
of China throughout the regions bordering the Indian Ocean.
He commanded seven naval expeditions almost a century before the Portuguese reached India ... Show

(Fall 1405) Emperor Zhu Di sends Zheng He to lead a maiden voyage across the South China Sea,
heading for present day Vietnam. Zhu Di names Zheng He Admiral, a sign of his immense trust in the
eunuch. Zheng He leads a huge fleet of 27,000 men.
December 1406 Zheng He s fleet arrives in Calicut, India. After a brief stop in Champa and Java,
Zheng He s fleet sails across the Indian Ocean and arrives in Calicut, India, their ultimate destination.
Though the Chinese consider most foreigners to be barbarians, they respect the citizens of Calicut for
their efficient bureaucracy and honesty in trading. They take advantage of the rich trading
opportunities in Calicut.
1431 Zheng He leads his final voyage. Zheng He leads his last imperial voyage, his seventh, to the
South China Sea. His journey takes his fleet down the East African coast as far as modern day Kenya,
and they trade for amber with the African people they encounter.
1433 Zheng He dies. During his final voyage, Zheng He contracts a disease and dies at age 62 in
Calicut. His body is later brought back to China, and he is buried on Niushou Hill (Bull s Head

Investigating The Charging And Discharging Abilities Of A...
The objective of the experiment was to measure the charging and discharging abilities of a resistor
capacitor circuit. In a RC circuit the voltage is an asymptomatic function of the charging time. If a
battery were connected in series in a circuit with a resistor, there would be a constant current. In
contrast, if the battery were connected with a capacitor in series, the current would be time varying,
decaying to zero as the capacitor charges up. The results of the experiments verified the properties of
the RC Circuits, confirming that voltage is a function of the product of resistance and capacitance. The
experiment produced results that agreed with expectations confirming the electrical theory of RC
circuits.

Capacitors are considered nonlinear devices because their charging and discharging rate depends on
the charge already there on the capacitor. The higher the charge on the plates of the capacitor, the
slower its charging rate. This is because the slow buildup of electric charge poses resistance to the
addition of extra charge as voltage starts to build across the plates. As a result, the flow of current gets
smaller. In contrast, while discharging, the higher the charge on the plates, the faster it discharges. On
the application of a voltage source to a circuit, the capacitor attempts to reach the full voltage
asymptotically, even though it never reaches the full voltage. The mathematical formula that
represents the voltage across the capacitor is:
V(t) = V0(1 et/RC)
For a charged capacitor, the mathematical formula that represents the voltage across the capacitor as it
is discharging:
V(t) = V0(et/RC)
Where:
RC is the time constant Ƭ of the circuit;
V0 is the potential difference in volts (V) of the voltage source;
R is the resistance in ohms (Ω);
C is the capacitance in the circuit in farads (F); and
T is the time measured in seconds (s).
After one time constant, the voltage is (e 1) x (V). It takes almost 3 times RC for a capacitor to get
charged to 95% of the voltage. Ƭ (seconds) = R (ohms) x C (farads)
From Ohm s Law:
R = V/I;
Capacitance = Q/V (charge stored per voltage applied); and
I = Q/t (amount of charge flowing per time).
As such:
RC = R x

Writing An Assignment Analysis
When I write an assignment, from a simple analysis to a research paper, I always start with writing an
outline. The outline helps me with the flow of my writing and reminds me where my work will take
me. The outline keeps me organized in my thoughts and aids in the comprehension of my writing; it
will start out very broad and eventually becomes very specific so the essay is easier to write. I have
gotten into the habit of writing outlines when I would write any assignment during my sophomore
year of high school. My teacher would require us to write outlines for major writing assignments
which developed my habit to write an outline for any assignment. After the outline, I begin writing the
assignment and edit while I write. I do this by briefly

Similarities Between Classical Greece And Rome
Ancient Classical Greece and Ancient Rome
When thinking of great empires that once existed it s natural that Ancient Rome and Greece come to
mind. They were both very accomplished with an abundance of theories and devices that impacted the
world. The empires were greatly influenced by each other. The Romans adopted many ideas from The
Greeks, but they also had different variations of each, such as their government, art, and religion.
The ancient Greek and Roman civilizations both had a well organized political process that greatly
influenced the governments yet to come in their countries and other parts of the world such as the
United States and Europe.
An abundance of political junctions originated in ancient Rome and Greece such ... Show more

Some differences were decided on the location of the countries, in Greece they divided themselves
into smaller cities and functioned on many smaller levels rather than one grand conjunction, still
voting as a whole for leaders.
In Rome they weren t as separated due to lack of geographical disturbances, so rather than adopting
many small cities, they acted as a whole.
The art in Rome was considered inferior to the art in Greece being considered fakes or replicas of their
art. The Greeks were striving for perfection in their art while the Romans were striving for real life
people. The statues made in Greece were made with perfect people in mind often modeled after gods
and goddesses, while the statues in Rome have all the faults a real person would have.
Although both Greece and Rome believed in polytheism and they shared the same gods, Rome
addressed them by different names. The Classical Greek gods such as Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades. In
Rome the names of those gods, in order, would be Neptune, Jupiter, and Pluto. The Greeks
worshipped the poet, hence their amazing mythology, the Roman worshipped the warrior hence all the
wars and dominion over the surrounding

Description Of The Installation Police Received A Call...
At 13:45 EST on January 1st 20xx, the installation police received a call from Mr. X, a supervisor at
the gymnasium (also the location used for hosting redeployment ceremonies and other functions). He
reported that one of his workers Mr. Q, was in possession of a backpack that he found unattended in
the men s locker room. According to Mr. Q, he opened the bag out of curiosity to find out if there is a
name or any identification so that he can return it to the owner. Mr. Q noticed an empty or dummy
pipe bomb container inside the backpack. The supervisor requested a patrol car and officer to be sent
to the location. Officer A, was the first on the scene and upon investigation and interview with the
witness/worker determined that the package was a dud/dummy. Officer A, was an Explosives
Ordnance Soldier prior to joining the installation police force and has extensive knowledge and
experience with explosives. Officer A s assessment of the situation was that, it could either be an
expensive prank or a dry run for a future attack.
The installation police chief informed us of the situation, based off of Officer A s assessment,
knowledge and experience with explosives. Based on this tip from the installation police chief
together with other intelligence reports, there is a credible threat with indications of an imminent
attack, possibly involving the use of a crude pipe bomb for any type of CBRNE attack on the
installation. We do not have all the facts and although we will not

Significance Of The Bruce Invasion
The Bruce Invasion, initiated by Robert Bruce, king of Scotland, and enacted on by his brother
Edward Bruce, was a way for Scotland to secure resources and troops from Ireland. At the time,
Ireland was giving resources over to England. Meanwhile, England and Scotland were at war with one
another. Ireland was just a proxy for these two other sides to gain something, whether it be resources,
political ally ship, or troops to fight off the other force s army. The Bruce invasion of Ireland was less
about the Irish people and more about how The English and Scottish could secure troops and
resources. This invasion was more about how ether side could keep or gain power, but at the
consequence of Ireland and the people living there. There are many reasons as to why the Bruce
Invasion happened. But as for how it happened, wee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now as for why is happened, Bruce took political advantage of what was going on at the time. One of
the events at the time was a consciousness of a Gaelic identity in Scotland, Ireland and Wales that
Bruce was taking advantage of (MacNamee). It was inevitable, too, that the Gaelic revival gained
momentum, the settlers should come over the influence of the culture of Gaelic Ireland (269 Lydon),
not only are those in Ireland aware of this Gaelic identity, Bruce s reasoning for demanding Irish
troops was to unite them all under a united Gaelic identity and fight against England in order to stop
them from acclimating more resources. Resources where a major issue during the invasion. At the
time there was a significantly bad famine that was affecting the resources, but Ireland still had ti ship
what little they had to England anyway. It was not the local Irish needs, however, that immediately
prompted this attempt to increase revenues but rather the need of Edward II to meet the demands of
the renewed war in Scotland (Lydon 276). Here we see the lack of

Cyclical Argument In Plato s Phaedo
In Plato s dialogue, the Phaedo, he gives a description of the immortality of the soul. He does this
through a series of arguments. His first argument, known as the Cyclical Argument, is that everything
comes to be from out of its opposite. The second argument, known as the Recollection Argument,
asserts that learning is essentially an act of recollecting things we knew before we were born but then
forgot. The third argument, known as the Affinity Argument, distinguishes between those things that
are immaterial, invisible, and immortal, and those things that are material, visible, and perishable. His
fourth argument, known as the Final Argument, is that the soul can be called the cause of life. I do not

One criticism of this argument is that death is contrary to life, but its contradictory opposite. It is
impossible for something to be both dead and alive, but it is possible for something to be neither dead
nor alive. Socrates also refers to being alive and being dead as opposites, but this pair is rather
different from comparative states such as larger and smaller, since something can t be deader, but only
dead. Being alive and being dead are what logicians call contraries. Some contemporary
commentators have maintained that the argument relies on covertly shifting between these different
kinds of opposites. Does the principle about balance, for instance, necessarily apply to living things?

Dred Scott Vs. Sanford Case
The Dred Scott vs. Sanford case was a huge decision in the history of our country. Dred Scott was a
slave who was owned by the Sanford family. The Sanford family moved Scott to a Wisconsin territory,
where slavery was prohibited under the Missouri Compromise, where he lived for 4 years working on
and off to raise money for him and his family s freedom. Later on, the Sanford family moved him
back to St. Louis where Scott tried to buy him and his family freedom but was denied by the Sanford
family. Scott sued the Sanford s and made a case that he and his family lived in a free area for an
extended period of time making him legally free. The state court declared him free but the wages that
Scott had were withheld by the Sanford family who then appealed the decision to make Scott free to
the Missouri Court. The Missouri Court overturned the decision to make Scott free and ruled in favor
of the Sanford s. Scott then sued the Sanford s again for physical abuse and the court would not rule
on it because they said Scott was regarded as a slave in Missouri territory. Scott then took the case to
the U.S Supreme Court where they wouldn t take the case because Scott was or had been a slave.
Justice Taney declared that federal courts could only hear cases brought to them by citizens of the U.S
and that Scott was not a citizen because his ancestors were imported from another country and they
were slaves. Taney also states that even though states could provide their own citizenship,

The Event I Decided At Attend
The event I chose to attend would be the S.M.A.R.T (Students of Color Mentoring, Aiding, Retaining,

classes reflecting on privilege and diversity I wanted to take this chance and learn more about the
subject beyond class. This was a little outside of my comfort zone because S.M.A.R.T only consist of
people of color, and even though I have a good deal of Native American in me I know that I am seen
as a White Caucasian. Before attending this event I can easily say I was a bit timid to attend knowing
that this would be a completely new experience for me. There is always a hush tone when dealing with
diversity and racial matters, and I was afraid that I would be seen as someone who does not care about
today s society and its racial discrimination. There is always that line of being color blind like we
spoke about in class and the line of almost teaching about diversity as if we do face it the same even
though we have not gone through these hard ships. I did not want to ignore their hardships and yet, I
did not want to come off as if I understand their hardships. When I first walked into the event it was
actually like a breath of fresh air. There were people laughing and screaming and running. I wanted to
join immediately. The fame was simple each person would receive a name tag at the point of entry and

these fights can get out of hand, disallowing the least dominant one to run, resulting in injury and
death to the whales. Over the past 35 years there have been four deaths and countless injuries, and

The 1999 Paramount Pictures movie thriller Double Jeopardy is a movie about
Libby, a mother of a 4 year old son, who is convicted of killing her husband on a boat although she
has no recollection of doing so. She soon finds out that her husband faked the murder and is still alive
with her son. Libby learns in prison that if she killed her husband she cannot be committed of the
crime because she already served time for
killing him. The movie states that the rules of double jeopardy of the Fifth Amendment allow Libby to
kill her husband when she gets out of prison because she cannot be tried for the same crime twice. In
reality, if Libby had killed her husband at the end of the film, which she did, she could be tried again.

Effects Of Adoption
Life Changing Effects of Adoption
What if every child had a home and was part of a loving family? This occurrence is unlikely because
of the constant debate of whether or not adoption is a beneficial option. Some believe that adoption is
more of curse than a blessing. They believe adoption can cause problems for the child by being raised
in a culture unlike their own. On the other hand, adoption can help the child to be open to the diversity
of the world and to be respectful, loving, and compassionate towards those who are different from
them. The effects of adoption on the adopted child is quite positive in most cases. Being adopted by a
loving family, affects the child by giving them a hope for their future, a firm foundation to stand on, ...

Once the child has left for college or even their career path, they receive the blessing of knowing their
family will always be there for them. The family may not have been able to be there for the child
earlier in his or her life but they will make up for it. They will be there for their child for the rest of his
or her life. There is truly nothing like he or she having the ability to call their parents when life is a lot
harder than it seems.
Ultimately, adoption s effects on those who get adopted is all together quite positive. The world may
never see the positive effects and outcomes of adoption but there are some whose lives will forever be
changed by it. How crazy is it to think so many incredible effects come out of just one daunting and
joy filled task? Adoption may be a long process but so was the process of each child moving from
home to home. In the end, adoption leaves an incredible impact not only on the children getting
adopted but those who are a part of this

The Merger of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the International Accounting Standards
Board
The proliferation and evolution of international trading and commerce have not only opened the
gateway to international markets for many of the world s emerging economies, but they have also
fostered an unprecedented growth in the number of multinational corporations. Spurred by trade
agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade
Organization (WTO), the rapid expansion of global commerce has revealed many inherent obstacles
and risks within the international financial structure. Disparate political, ethical, economic, and legal
policies have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IASB and the FASB have both established frameworks for the reporting of financial information,
however, despite their apparent similarities several key differences exist between their structures. For
example, U.S. GAAP has been traditionally defined as being a more rules based standard, which has
established strict guidelines and contingencies for reporting financial information. Given its history
and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP
has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that
some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or
manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that the more detailed the guidance,
the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance (Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5).
Despite these concerns, however, U.S. GAAP continues to be the preferred standard of most
accounting professionals. Conversely, IFRS is a principles based standard. The principles based
approach of IFRS grants management the discretion to use different accounting methods when
preparing financial data. While this practice is praised for its focus on fair values and the freedoms it
provides managers, it is often criticized for being far too subjective and inviting a human element that
could increase the risk of financial

Comparing Two Slave Stories
Both the slave narratives have a few components that comes down to outlining the misery of the black
race under white supremacists for slavery. The stories have the same comparable qualities, for
example, social stratification in wording or racial lines, unfair treatment, for example, being put
through purposeful misusing of sustenance, constrained work, oppression and in addition misuse of
human rights and stripping of nobility from being beaten while exposed. The significant distinction
between the two stories is the generally drilled sexual misuse of ladies in the Incidents in the Life of a

A Brief Note On Euro Zone Crisis Significantly Affected...
1. EURO ZONE CRISIS CONSIDERABLY AFFECTED INDIAN LEATHER INDUSTRY
According to says Council for Leather Export, Indian leather exports were registering an appreciable
growth of more than 15% in Dollar Terms during the first seven months of 2014 15, but, eventually
ended with a moderate growth of 9.37% during the fiscal 2014 15, primarily due to the Euro Zone

A decline in value of Euro followed by the crisis in Euro Zone is likely to have a negative effect on
India s export to European region, which accounts for around 18% 19% of India s total leather
exports. The exports from key areas like Leather and Gems Jewellery, which holds a major

A Randomized Control Trial, Usher, Alcock, And Petra
In a randomized control trial by Smith, Usher, Alcock, and Petra (2013), the researchers aim to
determine whether the use of NeoWrap, a polyethylene occlusive wrap, immediately after birth was
more effective than standard protocol to control hypothermia in NICU admissions. Participants consist
of 92 infants under 27 weeks of gestation and 44 infants less than 30 weeks gestation. The infants are
randomly assigned to be in either the control or the intervention group; the control group is transferred
under the prewarmed heater immediately after birth, dried and wrapped with prewarmed towels, and
applied a hat. The intervention group is wrapped from the neck the down with the polyethylene wrap
before being transferred to the prewarmed heater and undergoing the aforementioned process. World
Health Organization s definition for hypothermia, as cited by Smith et al. (2013), is a temperature of
less than 36.5 degrees Celsius. This parameter was used by the researchers, and the temperatures of
the infants were taken upon birth and upon NICU admissions as well as admission time for both the
control and intervention groups. The temperature was taken axillary on the infant at birth, upon
admission to the NICU and every 30 minutes using a digital thermometer until the infant reached 120
minutes postadmission. The results showed that although the usage of wrap increased the temperature
in neonates less than 27 weeks old, no statistically significant difference on neonates 27 to 29

My audition wasn t believable; I think during the middle of my journey it looks like I ve become
apathetic, especially during a time where I should ve shown how much I wanted this girl.
When I got out of my character (when I disconnected) I stopped listening because I became nervous:
like I stopped acting and all the sudden was aware that I had all these stage lights cameras on me.
I didn t use my environment.
When I m re watching film, I couldn t see myself being authentic in those moments, like that s not

My Criticism: Take everything personally! What s your need! If you re feeling overwhelmed with
remembering the technicalities of preparing for your cold read, as well as taking stage direction, just
focus on the need. Knowing your need is the most important thing that can help you prepare for an

For this year s science project, I would like to test the effects of both mineral and commercial

In this experiment, I will be testing the effects of both chemical (commercial) sunscreens and mineral

All of the preceding events rose many eyebrows in Washington DC, especially among the elite
politician s wives. Floride Calhoun, wife of Vice President John Calhoun, accepted a social call from
the Eatons after their marriage, but refused to pay a return visit. This was viewed in Washington DC as
a snub. Jackson s advisors encouraged him not to appoint Eaton into his cabinet, saying that his
reputation would damage Jackson s chances for the Presidency. This only angered Jackson, who
recalled the earlier mistreatment of his wife, Rachel, during his first run for the presidency. There had
been a misunderstanding about her previous divorce, and it turned out that she and Jackson had not
been married when they had thought, since her divorce was not yet final. They had in fact, been living
quite publicly in sin for over two years. They quickly repeated their vows, but the political and
personal repercussions had already taken effect. Rachel died of a heart attack less than three months
before Jackson s inauguration, and Jackson always blamed his competing party for her death.

The Romance Of The Rose Analysis
The Romance of the Rose was written in the 13th century by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun.
De Lorris was a French poet that wrote the first section of the poem, while De Meun was a French
author that wrote the second section. After de Lorris wrote the first section, he died, which lead to de
Meun finishing it. Their parts are related but have many differences. As de Lorris section is very
comprehendible, de Meuns is vaguer and requires more critical thinking. The poem has created an
abundance of arguments surrounding the topic of a women s dignity and role. These arguments had
immense impacts on today s pop culture. The book developed the notion of love not being an emotion,
but more of a pose. They did this by making characteristics, such as Courtesy, Beauty, and Wealthy, as
characters themselves to see how they would act in certain circumstances. This helps the reader
believe that the authors are trying to display how these traits are treated in real life. The author states,
FIer color made her look like a new rosel and her skin was so tender that one could tear it with a tiny
thorn (de Lorris 42), which helps the reader understand how the characters names will be a big part of
the poem and the moral surrounding it. It also suggests that some women are less fragile, and harder to
pursue than others which is directly related to how people perceive women outside of the poem. The
imagery and descriptions of the narrator s thoughts controls how the whole poem is

What Is The Salar De Uyuni Salt Flats
The Salar de Uyuni salt flats are located in Daniel Campos Province Potosí, Bolivia, they have
become Bolivia s largest mineral resource. The resources that they are known for producing are salt,
magnesium, potassium, and boron. The Salar are remnants of many lakes that use to occupy Bolivian
Altiplano in the Late Pleistocene(Orris). Salar de Uyuni has become the world s largest salt plan. The
Salar serves as a major transport route across the Bolivian Altiplano and serves as major breeding
ground for many species(Mason). The formation of Salar de Uyuni flats started from a large drainage
system. Which then has to become an enclosed basin that does not drain to the sea and will wash away
salt and arid climate where evaporation exceeds precition leaving behind salt(Orris). This has caused
an extraordinary flatness to the entire Salar salt flats.
The main minerals for salt flats are halite and gypsum(Orris). Halite is the mineral name but everyone
knows the substance as salt . Halite will form in arid climates where ocean water evaporates. Some
classifications of halite are: the streak color is white, luster is vitreous, the cleavage has perfect cubic

Corn Kernels
The phenotypes for the ear of corn observed, consisted of 192 purple kernels and 66 yellow kernels.
When reduced, the actual phenotypic ratio for this monohybrid cross was 32:11 (32 purple and 11
yellow). It matches the predicted phenotypic ratio of 3:1 (3 purple versus 1 yellow). If 3 and 1 were
multiplied by three, the predicted phenotypic ratio would be 33:11, resulting in our ear of corn, being
off by only 1 purple kernel.
The ear of corn labelled G, had 291 corn kernels total for the 6 rows. There were 168 purple smooth
corn kernels, 54 purple wrinkled kernels, 49 yellow smooth kernels, and 20 yellow wrinkled kernels.
The actual phenotypic ratio for this dihybrid cross is 168:54:49:20. No common factor can go into all

The chi square value for the data from the dihybrid cross was 0.993. The data supports the prediction.

Rituximab Case Study
Various mechanisms for the action of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have been identified:
 Complement directed cytotoxicity (CDC):
The mAbs bind to antigen on the cell surface and exposes their binding sites for proteins. These
proteins initiate the complement cascade and trigger the release of chemotactic factors and the
formation of the membrane attack complex, which promotes target cell lysis. Rituximab shows this
activity.
 ADCC mediated adaptive immunity:
MAbs bind to antigen on the tumour cell surface, providing the target for Fc receptors on the surface
of natural killer (NK) cells. Cross linking of receptors with mAbs triggers release of perforin and
granzymes from NK cell that lyse the tumour cell. Cell debris is taken up by antigen presenting ...

The drugs targeting on immune checkpoint have demonstrated higher response rates and prolonged
overall survival in cancer patients, as suggested by clinical cases.
PD 1 is a checkpoint protein on immune cells called T cells. It normally acts as a type of off switch
that helps keep the T cells from attacking other cells in the body. It does this when it attaches to PD
L1, a protein on some normal (and cancer) cells. When PD 1 binds to PD L1, it basically tells the T
cell to leave the other cell alone. Some cancer cells have large amounts of PD L1, which helps them
evade immune attack. CTLA 4 is another protein on some T cells that acts as a type of off switch to
keep the immune system in check. These two proteins are major target for anti tumour mAbs under
development.
Pembrolizumab: approved by EU and US in 2015 and 2014. Gives treat on melanoma. It targets on
programmed cell death 1 receptor (PD 1). PD 1 receptor protein down regulate the immune system by
preventing activation of T cells. Pembrolizumab blocks the inhibitory ligand of PD 1, reduce the PD 1
function and therefore activates more T cells. Research suggested that cytotoxic T cells are more
susceptible to be inhibited by PD 1, hence TC become more activated when Pembrolizumab is

Portfolio Theory Essay example
The Benefits of diversification are clear. Portfolio theory has played a crucial role in explaining the
relationship between risk and return where more than one investment is held. It also enables us to
identify optimal and efficient portfolios. With Reference to this statement, describe, discuss and
illustrate the principles of portfolio theory. Your essay should include coverage of the Markowitz
Efficient Frontier and the Capital Market Line. Declaration: I confirm that this submission is my own

He suggested that investors should choose portfolios and not individual shares.
(http://www.riskglossary.com/link/portfolio_theory.htm). Portfolio Theory: Markowitz contribution
showed that the benefits of diversification depend not just on risking individual assets but also on how
the asset returns interact with each other, or the correlation between returns. E.g. A combination of
investments in Umbrellas and Ice Creams will eliminate the risk of one another, i.e., the low returns
from ice creams in rainy season will be compensated by the umbrella sales. High returns in one
industry, in this case, always offset low returns in the other to give a positive return with certainty
because returns on the two assets are inversely correlated. Risk of a portfolio (combination of shares)
depends on the correlation between the expected return of every pair of shares in a portfolio.
Correlation varies between +1 and 1. Thus a perfectly positively correlated portfolio would mean a +1
and a negatively correlated portfolio would mean 1. In a positively correlated portfolio the expected
return would move in the same direction in the same proportion at all times, however in a negatively
correlated portfolio the returns would move in the opposite direction (J Ogilvie B Koch 2002). A
change in any of the variables (proportions of the

Human Activity And Climate Change
HUMAN ACTIVITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE
WILLIAM WRIGHT
GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY
In this paper I will discuss Human Activity and Climate Change. I will discuss different human
activities that might affect climate change, things such as the burning of fossil fuels and how they
might contribute to climate change. To begin I will discuss what the definition of climate change.
Climate change is the change in the atmosphere by the amounts of carbon dioxide levels that come
from using fossil fuels. Climate change can occur when the Earth s atmosphere become warmer than
what it naturally should be. Affects that can happen from climate change is extreme weather change
which can cause flooding in areas that it has not flooded before as well as drought and glaciers to melt
as well as cause the environment to change. A lot of climate change is directly due to human activity;
one of the activities that humans have done is released large amount of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas that comes from burning fossil fuels. Greenhouse gases have
wrapped around the earth s surface like an extra blanket causing the Earth to heat up much more and
affecting the balance of nature. Greenhouse gases are not only limited to large factories but also the
amount of vehicles on the road; cars produce carbon dioxide as well. History has shown that the
choices that we make can affect us on a large scale to include changing our environment as well as our
climate.

Symbols In Malcolm X
Symbols are shown throughout the film representing Malcolm s transformation. Symbols are words,
gestures, pictures or objects that carry a particular meaning which is only recognized by those who
share the culture. The words in a language or jargon belong to this category, as do dress, hairstyles,
Coca Cola, flags and status symbols (Hofstede, 1997). Initially, the zoot suit that Malcolm wears
indicates that he is involved in a hustler lifestyle. Once Malcolm is released from prison, the audience
can see the transformation he underwent. First in the way he speaks. He transitions from saying nigga
to Negro to show his commitment to learning the power of language and understanding the meaning
behind each word. Also shown by Malcolm reading and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

importantly, the audience witnesses a change in name. Malcolm s name initially is Malcolm Little.
Later on, Malcolm changes his name to Malcolm X. During the times of slavery, slaves took on their
master s name to indicate they were property. Slaves never knew their names. In order to rid himself
of that burden, Malcolm changed his last name to X . This is due to X signifying the unknown in
mathematics. In the same way that Malcolm did not know his origins. An important symbol to note is
the similarities between the house burning of Malcolm s childhood home and the home he lived in
with his family. Both scenes begin in the same manner, the waking up of wife and collecting the
children. Both scenes also end in similar ways with Malcolm and his father holding a gun.
Symbolizing the similarities between Malcolm and his father. Surprisingly, it was not until later in
Malcolm s life that his views and values aligned with his fathers. Initially, Malcolm believed that

Feminine Mystique, By Betty Friedan
In Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan writes about women s inequality from men to women s equality
to men, while also writing about women accepting the inequality to women and then fighting for
equality. Friedan encourages women to find worth outside of the home and explore her possibilities
but, for the sake of every member of the family, the family needs a head. This means Father, not
Mother. Children of both sexes need to learn, recognize and respect the abilities and functions of each
sex. He is not just a substitute mother, even though he s ready and willing to do his share of bathing,
feeding, comforting, playing. [...] If in that world he is interested, courageous, tolerant, constructive,
he will pass on these values to his children (Friedan 99). Friedan is attempts to tell her readers that no
matter the circumstances, men are handed power when they re assigned their gender and they
dominate the world in every aspect jobs, politics and at home. Since the beginning, women, believing
they didn t have any other choice, would blindly follow their husband, because they were brought up
believing when a woman grows up, they are to only marry and have children. Girls didn t get excited
about things like that anymore. We don t want careers. Our parents expect us to go to college.
Everybody goes. You re a social outcast at home if you don t. But a girl who got serious about
anything she studied, like wanting to go on and do research would be peculiar, unfeminine.

Understanding the Economic Recession in America Essay
The economic recession of the late 2000s has been called the greatest economic downturn our country
has faced since the Great Depression. American businesses and banks are failing, foreclosures are
spreading like wildfire, and unemployment numbers have reached double digits. Under our current
president, many are optimistic, but many others are fearful for the future. Economists have different
speculations regarding the causes of the Great Recession . Some blame it on higher prices for
necessities like oil. Others blame the recession on the burst of the real estate bubble, inflation, and
lacking government regulations on big businesses. Economic experts are also debating on possible
solution to end the recession. It is evident that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the housing bubble burst, credit was tightened and fewer loans were distributed. These two events,
along with the global price expansion, helped create a ripple effect that furthered the economic
turmoil. The credit squeeze lowered demand of products from businesses, which led to a decrease in
their profits. As revenues decreased, businesses closed down many of their plants and facilities in
order to reduce costs. The closures of these plants led to layoffs of millions of workers, and finally, a
sharp decline in the US stock market ( What Caused the Recession? ). Although the instability of sub
prime mortgages, the credit crunch, and the expansion of global prices heralded the advent of the
economic crisis, other experts have had their own opinions about the cause of the financial meltdown.
Adam Smith s invisible hand and the American pursuit of self interest played a large role on the onset
of the recession. The invisible hand is an economic theory developed b Adam Smith, a pioneer in
world economics. The theory is that as consumers buy products, companies will adjust their prices and
product distributions to fit the needs of the consumers, thus resulting in mutual satisfaction between
businesses and buyers ( Adam Smith and the invisible hand ). However, as the economy grew strong
during the pre recession years, American consumers became more influenced by greed. They

Not only is Nomi s family entertaining because of their quirky ways but Miriam Toews sarcastic sense of humor thrown into Nomi s everyday activities keeps the tone of the book light even when Nomi goes through trialing times. The book is written in the first person narrative, told from the perspective of Nomi Nickel and read similar to a memoir. The story starts off smack dab in the middle of Nomi s present day teenage life and quickly moves into her childhood which is done to show why she is the way she is. Ultimately, this is effective because it helps me to step inside the main characters head to view her thoughts and helps me to understand the reason behind her ... A clear juxtaposition observed would be between the old town and the new. Even tourists see this connection as one commented: now there s a priceless juxtaposition of old and new. Reaction I do not like The Mouth and find him creepy. The reason being is mostly because of the tight hold he has over the town through the bizarre purge he started when he became the pastor. Although after learning his backstory, it all made sense, and I began to feel sorry for him. The Mouth changed from an ordinary guy finding his way in the world to an extreme religious leader. It seems he uses his religion to protect himself because of what happened in his past when he went out into the world to explore. Moreover, outside of the Mennonite faith, everything was too free, and he couldn t handle the pressure of it as he s more comfortable in the boundaries of his religion where no one can judge him. Travis does not seem to be competent boyfriend material. He shows little respect for Nomi by leaving her out in the rain, and through his constant quest to change her. Nomi expresses questioning thoughts when she often feels pressured to talk and carry intelligent conversations to satisfy him. It disheartens me to think that she stays with him; I believe boredom and low self esteem cause this. I think the type of people that follow this religion are born ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Education Ideology Research Paper Shaynah Ruff Professor Ruccio ENGL 1101 29 July 2015 The American Education Ideology The importance of education is highly emphasized in American culture today. According to most members of society, the more educated a person is, the better off they will be in the long run. The idea that the furthering of one s education is important and is something everyone should partake in even as adults can be considered an ideology, which is a system of beliefs or theories held by an individual or a group. Lease is an agreement in which one party gains a long term rental agreement, and the other party receives a form of secured long term debt. On the other hand, buying involves transfer of ownership from seller to buyer. Buying or leasing decision depends mostly on customer s preference. There are many factors to consider before taking a buying or leasing decision. 2. For other products customers are actually buying products that will depreciate over time. 4. Maintenance: Maintenance cost is high for purchased products as after manufacturing warranty runs out customers need to pay maintenance cost. 5. Technology: In today s world technology changes rapidly. By buying a product a customer is stuck with that product or need to sell that product at depreciated price to get latest product. 6. Life plans: Buying may be disadvantageous to people who are expecting changes in their life. For example, from a single professional someone can become a parent of three in 3 years. So for him/her selling a compact car after three years and replacing it with minivan is would be more expensive then leasing the first car and simple returning it. 7. Brass bands were initially used by the military to boost the morale of soldiers. After many of these musicians served their time in the army, they still performed simply for the love of music. Brass bands generally consisted of brass instruments such as the bugle, cornet, sackbut, saxhorn, snare and bass drum. A unique instrument of the ensemble is the saxhorn (APPENDIX A), an instrument family consisting of the flugelhorn, baritone, and alto horn. Today, the instrument is still used but mostly as euphonium/baritone, flugelhorn, or mellophone. Lewis (2015), discusses a twelve key bugle unique to the Civil War era, to be a very common solo instrument. This keyed bugle was an improvement to the original open key bugle of the American Revolutionary War (APPENDIX B). Two songs unique to both Civil War and Post Civil War era brass bands are Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie. The Battle Hymn of the Republic was a poem by Julia Howe with a refrain that was later added with the chorus Glory, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Originally composed as a minstrel tune, it would become the anthem of the Confederacy. Dixie Is a binary form composition, with a simple musical theme introduced, followed by a chorus. The original idea is restated with the same lyrics, or an instrumental solo, proceeded again with the main chorus of the song. (APPENDIX C). Unlike the Battle Hymn, Dixie does not have a military feel. Instead, it resembles folk music. Currently, brass bands serve as a great influence for military style marching bands in America. • 7. Investigating The Charging And Discharging Abilities Of A... The objective of the experiment was to measure the charging and discharging abilities of a resistor capacitor circuit. In a RC circuit the voltage is an asymptomatic function of the charging time. If a battery were connected in series in a circuit with a resistor, there would be a constant current. In contrast, if the battery were connected with a capacitor in series, the current would be time varying, decaying to zero as the capacitor charges up. The results of the experiments verified the properties of the RC Circuits, confirming that voltage is a function of the product of resistance and capacitance. The experiment produced results that agreed with expectations confirming the electrical theory of RC circuits. Sources of error ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capacitors are considered nonlinear devices because their charging and discharging rate depends on the charge already there on the capacitor. The higher the charge on the plates of the capacitor, the slower its charging rate. This is because the slow buildup of electric charge poses resistance to the addition of extra charge as voltage starts to build across the plates. As a result, the flow of current gets smaller. In contrast, while discharging, the higher the charge on the plates, the faster it discharges. On the application of a voltage source to a circuit, the capacitor attempts to reach the full voltage asymptotically, even though it never reaches the full voltage. The mathematical formula that represents the voltage across the capacitor is: V(t) = V0(1 et/RC) For a charged capacitor, the mathematical formula that represents the voltage across the capacitor as it is discharging: V(t) = V0(et/RC) Where: RC is the time constant Ƭ of the circuit; V0 is the potential difference in volts (V) of the voltage source; R is the resistance in ohms (Ω); C is the capacitance in the circuit in farads (F); and T is the time measured in seconds (s). After one time constant, the voltage is (e 1) x (V). It takes almost 3 times RC for a capacitor to get charged to 95% of the voltage. Ƭ (seconds) = R (ohms) x C (farads) From Ohm s Law: R = V/I; Capacitance = Q/V (charge stored per voltage applied); and I = Q/t (amount of charge flowing per time). As such: RC = R x

Later on, the Sanford family moved him back to St. Louis where Scott tried to buy him and his family freedom but was denied by the Sanford family. Scott sued the Sanford s and made a case that he and his family lived in a free area for an extended period of time making him legally free. The state court declared him free but the wages that Scott had were withheld by the Sanford family who then appealed the decision to make Scott free to the Missouri Court. The Missouri Court overturned the decision to make Scott free and ruled in favor of the Sanford s. Given its history and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Participants consist of 92 infants under 27 weeks of gestation and 44 infants less than 30 weeks gestation. The infants are randomly assigned to be in either the control or the intervention group; the control group is transferred under the prewarmed heater immediately after birth, dried and wrapped with prewarmed towels, and applied a hat. The intervention group is wrapped from the neck the down with the polyethylene wrap before being transferred to the prewarmed heater and undergoing the aforementioned process. World Health Organization s definition for hypothermia, as cited by Smith et al. (2013), is a temperature of less than 36.5 degrees Celsius. This parameter was used by the researchers, and the temperatures of the infants were taken upon birth and upon NICU admissions as well as admission time for both the control and intervention groups. The temperature was taken axillary on the infant at birth, upon admission to the NICU and every 30 minutes using a digital thermometer until the infant reached 120 minutes postadmission. The results showed that although the usage of wrap increased the temperature in neonates less than 27 weeks old, no statistically significant difference on neonates 27 to 29 ... • 37. The Romance Of The Rose Analysis The Romance of the Rose was written in the 13th century by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun. De Lorris was a French poet that wrote the first section of the poem, while De Meun was a French author that wrote the second section. After de Lorris wrote the first section, he died, which lead to de Meun finishing it. Their parts are related but have many differences. As de Lorris section is very comprehendible, de Meuns is vaguer and requires more critical thinking. The poem has created an abundance of arguments surrounding the topic of a women s dignity and role. These arguments had immense impacts on today s pop culture. The book developed the notion of love not being an emotion, but more of a pose. They did this by making characteristics, such as Courtesy, Beauty, and Wealthy, as characters themselves to see how they would act in certain circumstances. This helps the reader believe that the authors are trying to display how these traits are treated in real life. The author states, FIer color made her look like a new rosel and her skin was so tender that one could tear it with a tiny thorn (de Lorris 42), which helps the reader understand how the characters names will be a big part of the poem and the moral surrounding it. It also suggests that some women are less fragile, and harder to pursue than others which is directly related to how people perceive women outside of the poem. The drugs targeting on immune checkpoint have demonstrated higher response rates and prolonged overall survival in cancer patients, as suggested by clinical cases. PD 1 is a checkpoint protein on immune cells called T cells. It normally acts as a type of off switch that helps keep the T cells from attacking other cells in the body. It does this when it attaches to PD L1, a protein on some normal (and cancer) cells. When PD 1 binds to PD L1, it basically tells the T cell to leave the other cell alone. Portfolio Theory: Markowitz contribution showed that the benefits of diversification depend not just on risking individual assets but also on how the asset returns interact with each other, or the correlation between returns. E.g. A combination of investments in Umbrellas and Ice Creams will eliminate the risk of one another, i.e., the low returns from ice creams in rainy season will be compensated by the umbrella sales. High returns in one industry, in this case, always offset low returns in the other to give a positive return with certainty because returns on the two assets are inversely correlated. Risk of a portfolio (combination of shares) depends on the correlation between the expected return of every pair of shares in a portfolio. Correlation varies between +1 and 1. Thus a perfectly positively correlated portfolio would mean a +1 and a negatively correlated portfolio would mean 1. In a positively correlated portfolio the expected return would move in the same direction in the same proportion at all times, however in a negatively correlated portfolio the returns would move in the opposite direction (J Ogilvie B Koch 2002). I will discuss different human activities that might affect climate change, things such as the burning of fossil fuels and how they might contribute to climate change. To begin I will discuss what the definition of climate change. Climate change is the change in the atmosphere by the amounts of carbon dioxide levels that come from using fossil fuels. Climate change can occur when the Earth s atmosphere become warmer than what it naturally should be. Affects that can happen from climate change is extreme weather change which can cause flooding in areas that it has not flooded before as well as drought and glaciers to melt as well as cause the environment to change. A lot of climate change is directly due to human activity; one of the activities that humans have done is released large amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas that comes from burning fossil fuels. Greenhouse gases have wrapped around the earth s surface like an extra blanket causing the Earth to heat up much more and affecting the balance of nature.
